- 0:04Speaker 1: All right, where are we, Gina?
- 0:06Speaker 2: We are doing the Saturday special. This is the best
- 0:08Speaker 2: of the week. It's so much fun to do, and
- 0:10Speaker 2: I'm a little winded right now. Greg, are you okay?
- 0:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm good. You kind of knocked me out a
- 0:15Speaker 3: little bit.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Explain what happened before we started.
- 0:17Speaker 2: I was just telling them, because I take Krav Maga now,
- 0:19Speaker 2: and I was telling them that we learned. How to
- 0:21Speaker 2: like choke someone out with a rope. And then we're
- 0:23Speaker 2: going to learn how to like take them down to
- 0:24Speaker 2: the mat. Well, you know, or the ground in a
- 0:27Speaker 2: few days. And so I demonstrated on Greg, but was
- 0:30Speaker 2: it too much?
- 0:31Speaker 3: No, it was good. And you would absolutely be successful
- 0:34Speaker 3: in that because I tried to fake choke you. And
- 0:36Speaker 3: then you show me how you fend off a choker.
- 0:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 0:39Speaker 3: And it ends, it culminates with a kick to the balls.
- 0:42Speaker 3: and then a throw against the wall. So she did
- 0:46Speaker 3: a fake ball kick, a fake punch in the nose,
- 0:49Speaker 3: and then a real shove into the wall.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Yeah, that was the best part. I felt like a superhero.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Yeah, it was good.
- 0:54Speaker 2: So anyway, sorry.
- 0:54Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 0:55Speaker 1: So is this something you've always wanted to do, or
- 0:57Speaker 1: is it like a safety thing? Like, why are you.
- 0:59Speaker 2: No, I met a girlfriend, and... She was like, oh,
- 1:03Speaker 2: we do this twice a week.
- 1:04Speaker 5: You want to go?
- 1:04Speaker 2: I was like, you know what? I need more exercise.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I like the community. Let's do it. And I love it.
- 1:10Speaker 2: And I love because it's not like no offense if
- 1:13Speaker 2: you're into like, you know, Taibo, but it's not like
- 1:15Speaker 2: dancer size. It's like, oh, I'd like to be able
- 1:17Speaker 2: to actually like neutralize somebody if I have to.
- 1:20Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I wish my wife would go to those.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Oh, I would love if she went.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I worry about her because sometimes. She doesn't have like
- 1:27Speaker 1: the street smarts, you know, and I worry about her
- 1:29Speaker 1: sometimes when she's out by herself, if she's not really
- 1:31Speaker 1: paying attention, she had a drink or two. Like, I
- 1:34Speaker 1: really wish you would go.
- 1:35Speaker 3: To one of those.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I would love for her to come with me because
- 1:37Speaker 2: I'm one of those people that I'm not like out
- 1:38Speaker 2: of sight, out of mind. I don't want to think
- 1:39Speaker 2: about it. If I know what to do, I can
- 1:42Speaker 2: walk around confidently.
- 1:43Speaker 6: You know what I mean?
- 1:44Speaker 2: I like, I like having the information. And at some
- 1:48Speaker 2: point we're going to get to work with knives.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Oh, sick. Yeah. Greg, did you ever take any classes
- 1:54Speaker 1: like any martial arts or any boxing or anything?
- 1:56Speaker 3: As a kid, I did karate, but I was such
- 1:59Speaker 3: a puss.
- 2:00Speaker 5: Oh, no.
- 2:02Speaker 3: I don't know. I suck at all of that.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I took Aikido in college, but it's pretty laid back.
- 2:08Speaker 3: All I wanted to do as a kid, I don't
- 2:10Speaker 3: know if this is universal for all kids, I wanted
- 2:13Speaker 3: to learn how to flip somebody.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Oh, because it rules. You saw it in boxing.
- 2:16Speaker 3: TV and movies. Oh, that would be so cool to be.
- 2:18Speaker 5: Able to flip somebody.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Literally the best part, yeah.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Like a hip toss.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yes.
- 2:22Speaker 1: That's so cool, man.
- 2:23Speaker 3: And then they go over you.
- 2:24Speaker 1: All right, as Gina mentioned, we're going to talk about
- 2:26Speaker 1: some of the best moments from the week here on
- 2:28Speaker 1: The Woody Show. We rotate the hosts. Thank you both
- 2:30Speaker 1: for joining this week, and I'll kind of try to
- 2:33Speaker 1: navigate a little bit. Greg, we have a couple conversations
- 2:36Speaker 1: about stuff that happened on the air specifically to you,
- 2:39Speaker 1: and we'll get to those in a quick minute.
- 2:41Speaker 6: But first.
- 2:42Speaker 1: On the very first Saturday special podcast, Menace encouraged everybody
- 2:46Speaker 1: listening to this to drop a comment in the Woody
- 2:48Speaker 1: Show IG posts. No specific post. Just drop something in there. Gina,
- 2:53Speaker 1: you suggested an emoji. It ended up being the trophy emoji.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Yes, which you picked.
- 2:58Speaker 1: And we've seen that for almost a month now, which
- 3:01Speaker 1: is pretty badass. But a listener suggested that we rotate them.
- 3:04Speaker 2: That's what I think is a great idea.
- 3:06Speaker 1: All right. So because it's a week away from Halloween...
- 3:10Speaker 1: Pick a Halloween emoji that people need to put into
- 3:12Speaker 1: the comments.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Ooh, I mean, do we have anything? Oh, let's do
- 3:15Speaker 2: the skull. Or is that too violent?
- 3:17Speaker 1: That means dead, like I'm dead laughing. Okay, I'm fine
- 3:20Speaker 1: with that. So that may be kind of good.
- 3:22Speaker 6: Let's do the skull.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Okay, skull. You got it. So the skull this week
- 3:25Speaker 1: is your mission, ladies and gentlemen. Dip into the comments
- 3:27Speaker 1: and leave it wherever you can. It's kind of like
- 3:29Speaker 1: a little secret code that you listen and enjoy this
- 3:32Speaker 1: Saturday special. All right, so let's get to it. Greg,
- 3:36Speaker 1: you're doing a... You do a really good job reading
- 3:38Speaker 1: the questions on the Woody Show Weakest Link.
- 3:40Speaker 5: You do.
- 3:41Speaker 1: You really do. And I listen from another room, right?
- 3:44Speaker 1: And you could tell that you practice. You could tell
- 3:47Speaker 1: that you're moving at a good pace. But some people
- 3:50Speaker 1: on the show suggest that you're not only picking hard questions,
- 3:54Speaker 1: but reading slowly. Let's go ahead and hear the break,
- 3:57Speaker 1: and then we'll come back and get comments.
- 3:59Speaker 5: This is actually kind of brilliant by Greg. Greg doesn't
- 4:01Speaker 5: want to buy a meal for anybody. That's why he
- 4:05Speaker 5: offers to host, because he knows we're never the chance.
- 4:07Speaker 3: I was assigned to host. I was assigned. Some of those.
- 4:10Speaker 6: Questions put bad law down.
- 4:11Speaker 1: They do be.
- 4:13Speaker 3: See, this happens every time. And you said, sometimes it
- 4:16Speaker 3: leads to an argument. No, 100% of the time, you
- 4:20Speaker 3: guys blame the questions. Then we get an official book,
- 4:23Speaker 3: or I watch the official show. I am 48,000 times
- 4:27Speaker 3: faster than Jane Lynch, who reads at a snail's pace.
- 4:32Speaker 5: Okay.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Stop blaming the questions. I will say this, Greg. Stop
- 4:35Speaker 3: blaming my speed.
- 4:36Speaker 6: Greg, Greg, Greg.
- 4:36Speaker 3: I'm on your side, baby.
- 4:38Speaker 6: Sweetheart.
- 4:38Speaker 4: Greg, to his credit, read ten whole questions, and if
- 4:42Speaker 4: we had gotten eight out of ten, we would have won.
- 4:44Speaker 6: Eight is a lot.
- 4:45Speaker 5: I'm not putting the blame on Greg.
- 4:47Speaker 3: No, you're saying it's by design. I didn't ask to host.
- 4:51Speaker 5: Are you psyched about not having to buy a meal?
- 4:53Speaker 3: I mean, I'm happy to buy a meal.
- 4:55Speaker 5: You are?
- 4:57Speaker 7: Of course. Yeah?
- 4:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Okay.
- 4:59Speaker 5: I'm saying, because I was thinking it's more like.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Now I feel like Gina when you say, is this
- 5:03Speaker 3: the Twilight Zone?
- 5:04Speaker 5: I know.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Trust me.
- 5:05Speaker 2: I've been in this black hole before.
- 5:07Speaker 5: No, I can't buy a meal.
- 5:08Speaker 1: What?
- 5:09Speaker 5: We did have to pull a T for the last one.
- 5:10Speaker 5: You would prefer not to buy a meal for everybody
- 5:14Speaker 5: on the show.
- 5:15Speaker 3: The only thing that stresses me out about the meal
- 5:17Speaker 3: is the delivery part of it, which is why the
- 5:19Speaker 3: last time I had Menace do it and then I
- 5:21Speaker 3: zelled him.
- 5:21Speaker 5: So I'm thinking like, okay, by hostings.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Right.
- 5:23Speaker 5: It's kind of like the guy who runs the carnival
- 5:25Speaker 5: game with the put the basketball in the hoop. It's
- 5:28Speaker 5: kind of oval shape.
- 5:29Speaker 2: With the extra rubbery rim.
- 5:30Speaker 7: Right.
- 5:31Speaker 5: The balls are overinflated. The rim's a little bit, you know,
- 5:34Speaker 5: like modified a bit. And so the chances is I'm
- 5:38Speaker 5: not that it's it's it's not it's not impossible, but
- 5:41Speaker 5: the the odds are not in your favor.
- 5:44Speaker 2: We just got to get smarter.
- 5:45Speaker 3: You know, I blame.
- 5:45Speaker 5: Yeah, right.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Oh, give me a fucking break. I am rifling through these,
- 5:52Speaker 3: and that's why I brought up Jane Lynch on the
- 5:55Speaker 3: TV version of The Weakest Link. She reads so fucking slow. Yes.
- 6:02Speaker 3: It's laborious. She even physically moves slow. If it's Gina's
- 6:06Speaker 3: turn to answer a question, she'll shift over. Gina, name
- 6:12Speaker 3: the father in Friends.
- 6:16Speaker 2: While the clock is ticking.
- 6:18Speaker 3: And it's so annoying. So I'm rifling through these and
- 6:20Speaker 3: then I get them from the book, the official book,
- 6:23Speaker 3: and the TV show, which I will watch, pause, write
- 6:26Speaker 3: the question, watch, pause, write the question. And then it's
- 6:30Speaker 3: the blaming the questions, blaming the references, blaming the speed.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Here's an idea. Get eight right.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Be smarter.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I think you do a good job. I'm not saying
- 6:40Speaker 1: that because you're in the room. Both Manji and I
- 6:42Speaker 1: were talking about it. I'm like, he's getting through them quick, man.
- 6:45Speaker 1: And that's not a very easy thing to do. And
- 6:47Speaker 1: you don't make mistakes. Like you're right on top of it, man.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Um, they also suggest that you do that cause you
- 6:54Speaker 1: don't want to buy breakfast and that's bullshit too, right?
- 6:56Speaker 3: That's total bullshit. I'm happy to buy breakfast. And I,
- 6:59Speaker 3: I actually, since we're doing a peeling back the curtain,
- 7:03Speaker 3: I actually yelled at Woody when we went to commercial break.
- 7:05Speaker 3: I said, where did this narrative come that I'm cheap?
- 7:08Speaker 3: The only person I'm cheap with is myself. I will
- 7:12Speaker 3: buy other people's stuff. I will give, I will donate
- 7:15Speaker 3: to charity. Um, But if it's for me, if I'm
- 7:20Speaker 3: buying a sandwich and cheese is 10 cents extra, guess what?
- 7:24Speaker 3: No cheese. I'm skipping cheese.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Okay, here's another example. One of Greg's New Year's resolutions
- 7:30Speaker 2: was to buy himself some new t-shirts.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Because he will not spend money on his own clothes.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Right. Thank you for remembering.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I do remember.
- 7:39Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean, I've never encountered that. And I
- 7:41Speaker 1: haven't been here that long. I mean, it's like four
- 7:43Speaker 1: months or so, give or take. But like, I've never...
- 7:46Speaker 1: encountered you being cheap in any way you've always been
- 7:48Speaker 1: cool you know and I've never thought of you as
- 7:51Speaker 1: someone who would sabotage a contest just not to.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Pay for dinner not have to buy food no so
- 7:57Speaker 3: the narratives that come up here are the lore it's
- 8:01Speaker 3: just and once it starts it can never stop.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Yeah once you're kind of like tagged that yeah that's
- 8:07Speaker 1: who you are yeah.
- 8:08Speaker 3: That's what I got to look forward to huh yep Yeah,
- 8:10Speaker 3: we got to come up with some sort of horrible,
- 8:13Speaker 3: like crazy anomaly about you.
- 8:15Speaker 6: You can bring it.
- 8:16Speaker 1: It's okay, man. Do you think it's just people stirring
- 8:19Speaker 1: the pot?
- 8:20Speaker 3: Oh, for sure.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:21Speaker 3: And the thing is, it's a vicious cycle because they
- 8:24Speaker 3: can troll or stir the pot. And it's been like,
- 8:27Speaker 3: I've known Woody for 20 years, and he takes a
- 8:30Speaker 3: lot of joy and amusement out of my frustration or sadness. Well,
- 8:36Speaker 3: not sadness, but frustration, really.
- 8:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:39Speaker 3: And they love it.
- 8:40Speaker 2: To wind you up.
- 8:40Speaker 3: And even when I know they're doing it, it still works. Like,
- 8:44Speaker 3: I get pissed.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:46Speaker 3: I'm a very defensive person.
- 8:47Speaker 2: I think we all are.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, all of us are.
- 8:50Speaker 1: We're passionate people, and I think that comes for— We
- 8:52Speaker 1: stand our ground. Exactly. It was funny because there was
- 8:55Speaker 1: another break that you could probably catch up with on
- 8:58Speaker 1: the full pod or the highlight— where I came in
- 9:01Speaker 1: and I suggested that, hey, do you think I'm a
- 9:03Speaker 1: bad dad because my kids watch Blueface? And I was
- 9:06Speaker 1: just stirring the pot. And Gina wrote me a note afterwards.
- 9:09Speaker 1: She was so sweet. She's like, I hope you didn't
- 9:11Speaker 1: think when I looked at you when you said that,
- 9:13Speaker 1: like that I was like judging or something.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Yeah, because I was definitely giving a look, but it
- 9:18Speaker 2: wasn't to Jeff.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Because I was just stirring it up, you know what
- 9:22Speaker 1: I mean? Because I know that they don't think that
- 9:23Speaker 1: about me, but I just was trying to get, because
- 9:25Speaker 1: Seabass is the ultimate troll.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Well, of course. Well, yeah.
- 9:28Speaker 1: And he takes a lot of pride in that as well.
- 9:29Speaker 2: He does.
- 9:30Speaker 3: For sure. And he's consistent. Yeah.
- 9:32Speaker 6: And so I was kind of.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Like trying to micro troll them back.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Well, I like when you get under Seabass's skin.
- 9:37Speaker 6: It's fun.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I like him. He's funny, man. I get what
- 9:40Speaker 1: he's doing, and I enjoy that, man. All right, Greg,
- 9:43Speaker 1: another great topic from the week that we pulled. This
- 9:47Speaker 1: is about your journal. And honestly, I love it.
- 9:51Speaker 6: It's a highlight.
- 9:52Speaker 1: It really is. And Greg told me off air what
- 9:54Speaker 1: this was going to be about. I think he kind
- 9:56Speaker 1: of mentioned it in the room that this particular entry
- 9:58Speaker 1: was special because it had a poem in it.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Right.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Let's go ahead and hear it first. And then we'll
- 10:04Speaker 1: talk about it.
- 10:05Speaker 3: So I was in a dark mood. I guess I
- 10:07Speaker 3: had had a bad day. And I guess the night
- 10:09Speaker 3: before we had a conversation that was upset me. I
- 10:12Speaker 3: don't remember what happened that night. But then I got
- 10:14Speaker 3: back at 11.20 p.m. and wrote this.
- 10:17Speaker 7: Jeez, okay.
- 10:18Speaker 4: All right.
- 10:19Speaker 3: As I ponder the realms of life and love, life
- 10:22Speaker 3: itself becomes a battle, and love a struggle, a war,
- 10:26Speaker 3: an uphill climb. But a joy, surprise, adventure, a game.
- 10:33Speaker 3: The play is never won, seldom lost, has no beginning,
- 10:37Speaker 3: foresees no end. Living is a task, dying, fate. The
- 10:42Speaker 3: span between the two, packed with doubt. A perplexity of times.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Confusion at night. Retrospect in morning. I celebrate the start.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Play the duration. Fear and loathe. A shattering loss.
- 10:57Speaker 5: Wow.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Weird. Snap, snap.
- 11:00Speaker 5: What are you getting from that?
- 11:02Speaker 3: What does that mean?
- 11:03Speaker 7: It was very, I would say, Walt Whitman-y, which is
- 11:05Speaker 7: like very, what you call transcendental. So it's like very
- 11:12Speaker 7: expressive of life and like the ups and downs and
- 11:15Speaker 7: ebbs and flows and whatnot. So I was very into
- 11:18Speaker 7: that around that age as well. So I would say
- 11:20Speaker 7: like a nine, nine point.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Something, something.
- 11:25Speaker 6: All right.
- 11:26Speaker 1: So talk about that time in your life when you
- 11:29Speaker 1: go back and you read it first and then bring
- 11:33Speaker 1: it to the air. What are the feelings that are
- 11:35Speaker 1: kind of going through you?
- 11:37Speaker 3: A lot of things. First of all, that was 1992,
- 11:39Speaker 3: this trip to England. So I basically don't... I remember
- 11:44Speaker 3: the trip, of course. I remember being there. I don't
- 11:47Speaker 3: remember my frame of mind. I remember random stuff. Do
- 11:52Speaker 3: you guys remember those yellow Sony Walkmans?
- 11:54Speaker 1: Of course.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Like the sport ones?
- 11:56Speaker 1: Yeah, those are the waterproof ones.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Yeah, right.
- 11:58Speaker 6: Very durable.
- 11:59Speaker 3: So I had one of those, and here I am
- 12:02Speaker 3: off to England for three months, and I brought one... Tape.
- 12:06Speaker 3: That was it.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Let me guess.
- 12:07Speaker 7: One.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Let me guess.
- 12:08Speaker 3: You'll never guess.
- 12:09Speaker 5: Depeche?
- 12:10Speaker 1: No.
- 12:10Speaker 7: Oh, no.
- 12:11Speaker 3: It was Annie Lennox, Diva.
- 12:13Speaker 2: I love it.
- 12:14Speaker 6: I approve of it.
- 12:15Speaker 3: It was a great album.
- 12:15Speaker 5: It's a great album.
- 12:16Speaker 3: I memorized it, and I would listen to it every day.
- 12:19Speaker 3: I remember that distinctly. I remember being nervous because I
- 12:23Speaker 3: was out of the country for three months.
- 12:25Speaker 6: Of course.
- 12:26Speaker 2: And you didn't go with a bunch of friends.
- 12:28Speaker 3: No, I went by myself, and it was like a
- 12:31Speaker 3: program where all these kids from different colleges went to
- 12:33Speaker 3: do a summer in Cambridge. And so I didn't know anybody.
- 12:37Speaker 3: I made three friends. I'm still in touch with the
- 12:39Speaker 3: two girls that I actually talk about in the journal.
- 12:41Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Kim and Kami. I still am in touch with them.
- 12:46Speaker 3: So I think I was just trying to fit in
- 12:48Speaker 3: and trying to let go and be social. And it
- 12:52Speaker 3: ended up going great. Oh, and I also remember on
- 12:57Speaker 3: the way back from England, that was the only time
- 13:01Speaker 3: in my life I flew first class. And it was
- 13:03Speaker 3: by day. a fluke because I wanted to leave a
- 13:06Speaker 3: day early. So I went to the airport and got
- 13:08Speaker 3: on the standby list. They called my name. I go up,
- 13:11Speaker 3: they hand me, this is the days of boarding passes.
- 13:13Speaker 3: They hand me a paper boarding pass and it said
- 13:15Speaker 3: a two.
- 13:16Speaker 2: How is that possible?
- 13:18Speaker 3: Am I flying? I wonder if that really means eight.
- 13:20Speaker 3: I walk in, I look around. Oh my God. And
- 13:23Speaker 3: it was first class standby. So it's like a coach fair.
- 13:28Speaker 3: It was awesome. And that's when I, got introduced to
- 13:32Speaker 3: Bailey's Irish Cream.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Oh, so good, right?
- 13:34Speaker 3: The flight attendant, she said, would you like some Bailey's?
- 13:36Speaker 3: I don't even know what that is. Sure. And it
- 13:38Speaker 3: was so good.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Bailey, that is the only time I've ever had Bailey's
- 13:42Speaker 2: was on a long flight. On a flight?
- 13:43Speaker 6: Yes, on an international flight.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Oh, man, it's good. Bailey's? It's good, yeah.
- 13:46Speaker 1: You know, I'm really kind of like jealous in a
- 13:49Speaker 1: way of your journal because you do such a great
- 13:51Speaker 1: job and in such great detail of your experiences, everything from,
- 13:55Speaker 1: you know, we sat outside on the balcony, smoked a
- 13:57Speaker 1: cigarette or whatever.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:59Speaker 1: I wish I can remember that much shit from growing up.
- 14:01Speaker 1: You know, I remember stuff, you know, and everything, but
- 14:03Speaker 1: as we kind of get older, it's a blur. You
- 14:05Speaker 1: kind of just push it into parts of your mind
- 14:07Speaker 1: that you don't activate anymore, you know? And like hearing
- 14:10Speaker 1: you do that, go, man, I really wish that one
- 14:12Speaker 1: day I could sit down and do that.
- 14:14Speaker 3: But I can't.
- 14:14Speaker 1: You don't have any journals of any kind. That won't
- 14:17Speaker 1: ever happen for me. So I applaud you for doing
- 14:21Speaker 1: it and also putting it on the air because that
- 14:23Speaker 1: takes bravery too.
- 14:25Speaker 2: All of our kids are going to have all the
- 14:27Speaker 2: memories they can handle staring right back at them.
- 14:30Speaker 3: It's all there, yeah.
- 14:31Speaker 1: It'll all be in the cloud and we can access
- 14:32Speaker 1: it whenever we want. And I love that for my
- 14:34Speaker 1: kids now because I could go back and find a
- 14:36Speaker 1: picture when they're six months old, when they need it
- 14:38Speaker 1: for their yearbook or whatever the heck.
- 14:39Speaker 3: But aren't you so glad we don't have that?
- 14:42Speaker 1: In a way, yes. But then when you read this stuff,
- 14:45Speaker 1: it's no, because I'm like, damn, I really wish I
- 14:47Speaker 1: could remember some of those cool moments that I had.
- 14:49Speaker 1: I have the stories, but man, the detail in which
- 14:52Speaker 1: you write is amazing.
- 14:52Speaker 3: I think that's why I obsess so much about death,
- 14:55Speaker 3: because let's take people our parents' age. When they're gone,
- 14:59Speaker 3: so many things that we don't know We just will
- 15:02Speaker 3: never know.
- 15:02Speaker 6: I think about that.
- 15:03Speaker 1: All the time.
- 15:04Speaker 3: I don't really know how certain people in my family met.
- 15:07Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 15:08Speaker 3: Oh, God. There's so much we don't know. So that's
- 15:11Speaker 3: why I obsess about death, because you want to find
- 15:14Speaker 3: out as much as you can. Because once they're gone,
- 15:16Speaker 3: they're gone.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Have you thought about giving your parents those books of
- 15:19Speaker 2: filling out the memories so you have them?
- 15:21Speaker 3: I have, but I think they would think it's so cheesy. Oh, God.
- 15:26Speaker 1: You're right, because that's the one thing I miss.
- 15:27Speaker 2: I'm the family historian.
- 15:28Speaker 3: And I'll... I saw this thing on, I think it
- 15:31Speaker 3: was on Instagram, like questions you should ask your dad
- 15:34Speaker 3: while he's still around. I want the answers to those questions,
- 15:38Speaker 3: but I'm afraid if I ask him, it's me basically
- 15:41Speaker 3: admitting to him, hey, dad, you know, you're pretty damn
- 15:43Speaker 3: old and you're not going to be around much longer.
- 15:45Speaker 2: That's what it is.
- 15:46Speaker 3: I don't want to offend him.
- 15:47Speaker 2: I wanted to give one to my mom and I
- 15:48Speaker 2: thought the same thing. It's just like, oh, now, is
- 15:50Speaker 2: this when I get to get one of these journals?
- 15:53Speaker 3: I think that would be borderline offensive.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Maybe just kind of like remember them and then kind
- 15:57Speaker 1: of bring them up here and there. Like when you
- 15:58Speaker 1: guys are you know, either texting back and forth during
- 16:01Speaker 1: the Niners game or when you're, or when you go
- 16:02Speaker 1: visit them or something, because you're right. You're like, you
- 16:04Speaker 1: don't want those to fade. That's one of the hardest
- 16:06Speaker 1: parts about my grandmother dying. Cause she helped raise me
- 16:08Speaker 1: and she was like the matriarch and she told all
- 16:11Speaker 1: the funniest stories and she was so great. And I
- 16:14Speaker 1: miss those. I miss going over there and like having
- 16:17Speaker 1: dinner with her and hearing some story about when she
- 16:19Speaker 1: lived in Africa, like she was super well traveled. And
- 16:22Speaker 1: that's just a hole that you can't fill anymore.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Totally.
- 16:25Speaker 1: It's not there. All right, speaking of holes that don't
- 16:28Speaker 1: get filled, Menace's Brain Chambers had a very interesting week.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I want to first start with Evan Essence and that
- 16:40Speaker 1: commercial read. If you missed it, let's listen to this.
- 16:43Speaker 5: There's this one commercial that's running that Menace did. We
- 16:46Speaker 5: love it when Menace pronounces words.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Yes.
- 16:50Speaker 5: Sorry, Burn Ounce's words.
- 16:51Speaker 3: Burn Ounce's Eurasian.
- 16:55Speaker 5: And he had a hard time with one of the bands.
- 16:57Speaker 6: Evan Essence, The Offspring, Def Cab for Cutie.
- 17:00Speaker 5: Evan Essence. Who's he?
- 17:02Speaker 3: He's a good singer.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:04Speaker 6: First name Evan, last name Essence.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Essence.
- 17:06Speaker 5: Evan Essence, The Offspring, Def Cab for Cutie, Young The Giant.
- 17:11Speaker 6: And that's just a taste.
- 17:12Speaker 5: Yeah, just a taste.
- 17:13Speaker 6: I can send you the actual recording. That sounds like trash.
- 17:16Speaker 6: It sounds... way better messed up. Oh, I'd love to
- 17:18Speaker 6: hear the raw.
- 17:19Speaker 3: What do you mean?
- 17:21Speaker 6: No, it sounds like there's a paper bag next to
- 17:23Speaker 6: it for some reason.
- 17:24Speaker 5: Oh, okay, so like a better, not like you pronounced it.
- 17:28Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So you can hear it more clearly. Yeah.
- 17:32Speaker 6: Evan Essence.
- 17:33Speaker 5: Evan Essence. Anyway, so they were having some fun back
- 17:38Speaker 5: in the office. Somebody said, Man, they could sell ad
- 17:40Speaker 5: time in that big space between Evan and Essence.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Yeah, you could drive a truck through that gap.
- 17:46Speaker 5: They were having a little bit of fun with it
- 17:47Speaker 5: in the office.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Evan, wait for it. Essence.
- 17:53Speaker 3: I like that.
- 17:54Speaker 1: That's, of course, Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother. Evan,
- 17:58Speaker 1: wait for it. Essence.
- 17:59Speaker 6: That's how it was directed on the copy.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Was it?
- 18:05Speaker 6: Yeah. Right.
- 18:06Speaker 5: Get out of here, dude.
- 18:07Speaker 3: It was. It said Evan and then pause here.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Liar.
- 18:13Speaker 4: Evan.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Essence.
- 18:18Speaker 6: It was me, Morgan, Yvonne, Seabass.
- 18:20Speaker 1: We were all in there kind of like brainstorming funny
- 18:22Speaker 1: sounds that we could put in that gap between Evan
- 18:25Speaker 1: and Essence.
- 18:25Speaker 5: Evan?
- 18:28Speaker 1: Essence.
- 18:30Speaker 6: That sounds slightly edited.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 18:34Speaker 6: Evan.
- 18:34Speaker 5: No, man.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Essence.
- 18:36Speaker 6: A little Spanish.
- 18:40Speaker 5: They came up with just a billion of them, dude.
- 18:42Speaker 2: You have to hold on to those.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Evan.
- 18:44Speaker 5: Essence.
- 18:46Speaker 6: I wouldn't call them that. They're a great band.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Okay, so in addition to Evanescence, he had an amazing
- 18:54Speaker 1: other break with the dad joke.
- 18:58Speaker 6: Speaking of direction, check this out. Why did the ram
- 19:02Speaker 6: run off the cliff?
- 19:04Speaker 5: Why did the ram run off the cliff, Menace?
- 19:07Speaker 6: It didn't see the E turn.
- 19:08Speaker 5: Oh.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Did I say that right?
- 19:11Speaker 2: No, the U-turn. E-W-E.
- 19:14Speaker 5: Oh, my God.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Oh, the E-turn. You just made it way better.
- 19:19Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 19:20Speaker 3: That was bizarre.
- 19:21Speaker 2: You kind of have to have your, like, menace to
- 19:23Speaker 2: English dictionary ready. Yeah. Like, when he said, with the
- 19:27Speaker 2: joke about the E-turn, and it was, like, with sheep,
- 19:29Speaker 2: I was like, wait, what would that mean to menace?
- 19:31Speaker 2: And that's why I said U-turn, like E-W-E. Like, I
- 19:35Speaker 2: was trying to translate what he thought he was saying.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Right. I didn't want to say this in the room
- 19:39Speaker 3: at the time it was happening, but when he said
- 19:41Speaker 3: E-turn and then we all realized it was you, E-W-E,
- 19:46Speaker 3: I'm afraid to use this adjective. I thought it was cute.
- 19:49Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, that's cute.
- 19:50Speaker 7: Cute.
- 19:50Speaker 1: He thought, like a little kid.
- 19:52Speaker 3: Yeah, like, aw, you thought that said E?
- 19:54Speaker 1: Etern.
- 19:57Speaker 3: In my head, I'm like, That's so cute.
- 19:59Speaker 2: But that's such an example of all of us standing
- 20:01Speaker 2: our ground. Because instead of being like, oh, you got me.
- 20:03Speaker 2: I don't know what an E-turn is. He's like, no,
- 20:04Speaker 2: you guys don't know what an E-turn is?
- 20:05Speaker 3: Yeah, he digs in.
- 20:06Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 20:07Speaker 1: No, he is the king of digging in and dying
- 20:09Speaker 1: on that hill. And he's so funny. Well, we learned
- 20:12Speaker 1: that he's dyslexic, obviously, before he's mentioned that before. Is
- 20:16Speaker 1: that the only thing that kind of hinders him sometimes
- 20:19Speaker 1: when it comes to reading scripts?
- 20:20Speaker 2: That's a him question.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Or do you have a theory on does he just
- 20:24Speaker 1: smoke too much weed?
- 20:24Speaker 3: I don't know. A lot of head injuries as a kid, skateboarding.
- 20:29Speaker 3: But that's one of the main things that people think
- 20:31Speaker 3: is fake. Oh, Menace is faking it. I swear I've
- 20:35Speaker 3: been sitting next to him for over a decade. None
- 20:38Speaker 3: of it is fake. I kind of wish it was
- 20:41Speaker 3: because it's kind of alarming.
- 20:43Speaker 1: It is in a way, but at the same time, man,
- 20:45Speaker 1: like the room sometimes needs that in a way, like that,
- 20:48Speaker 1: just that, like out of nowhere laughing moment that we
- 20:52Speaker 1: almost crying, but we were dying when we heard Etern.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Well, and for me, what I think it is, is.
- 20:58Speaker 2: I don't think Menace is a stupid person.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Neither do I.
- 21:01Speaker 2: I think he has lots of good skills. I think
- 21:03Speaker 2: he's good at a lot of things. So that for me,
- 21:05Speaker 2: that's where I feel free to laugh at stuff like
- 21:07Speaker 2: this because I don't know if he feels this way,
- 21:10Speaker 2: but like, that's why, like for me on other shows
- 21:12Speaker 2: and here and stuff, I don't really feel bad, you know,
- 21:16Speaker 2: doing it. And I know Greg, you're like, how could
- 21:17Speaker 2: you be so smart and so dumb at the same time? Like,
- 21:19Speaker 2: we know you're not dumb. And I hope people don't
- 21:22Speaker 2: think I'm dumb and I don't think Menace is dumb.
- 21:24Speaker 2: And you know, it goes, I don't think Woody's dumb.
- 21:26Speaker 2: So to be able to poke fun at each other,
- 21:28Speaker 2: there's a freedom there because I truly don't think anyone
- 21:31Speaker 2: in that room is stupid.
- 21:33Speaker 3: No.
- 21:33Speaker 6: No, not at all.
- 21:34Speaker 1: So it makes a difference. I think everybody has to
- 21:36Speaker 1: be smart to be in that room.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Yeah, and has their own skill.
- 21:39Speaker 1: First of all, to keep up with that. But everybody
- 21:40Speaker 1: has blind spots. Of course, and that's the fun part.
- 21:43Speaker 1: And that's kind of the part. And of course, when
- 21:46Speaker 1: someone notices that blind spot, it becomes like a scab, right?
- 21:49Speaker 6: Your whole identity.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 21:51Speaker 3: It's like when the topic is sports and Gina is
- 21:54Speaker 3: kind of like, Oh, I don't know what to say. Yeah.
- 21:56Speaker 2: And I'm very honest about that. And I think it's
- 21:58Speaker 2: funny because I grew up in that sports environment.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Exactly. And for me, I think it's like anything tech.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Oh, that's the joke.
- 22:04Speaker 3: You guys are talking about apps. And only recently did
- 22:08Speaker 3: I learn the difference between, like, streaming and watching or
- 22:12Speaker 3: i don't even know the words i was like wait.
- 22:14Speaker 2: What is streaming at one point during the olympics woody
- 22:18Speaker 2: had this idea of me and greg going against each
- 22:20Speaker 2: other for like the tech olympics and like having to
- 22:23Speaker 2: like upload a file and see you could do it
- 22:24Speaker 2: faster wouldn't even start and that's why i wanted to
- 22:27Speaker 2: do it so bad because it would have been hilarious.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Right it would have been really good watch you guys
- 22:32Speaker 1: freak out oh.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Yeah because i said to woody like well but he's
- 22:35Speaker 2: like I go, what do you mean? He's like, well,
- 22:37Speaker 2: you just record some audio and upload it. I go,
- 22:39Speaker 2: but where do you even put the microphone?
- 22:41Speaker 3: Where do you plug the microphone into the computer?
- 22:43Speaker 2: And he goes, we're doing this.
- 22:45Speaker 6: We didn't, but we should.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Please don't remind him.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Yeah, don't remind him.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I don't want to do that. Because it would be
- 22:50Speaker 3: so boring for the audience. Because I would sit there and.
- 22:53Speaker 7: Say, I.
- 22:54Speaker 2: You know what it would be like? It would be
- 22:56Speaker 2: like those hilarious videos where you give a little kid
- 22:58Speaker 2: like a CD player and you say like, figure it out.
- 23:01Speaker 5: What do you do with it?
- 23:02Speaker 2: And they look at it like a monkey. Like they
- 23:03Speaker 2: have no idea.
- 23:04Speaker 6: That would be us.
- 23:05Speaker 1: The Gen Z can opener videos.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Yes, yes, exactly.
- 23:07Speaker 1: They don't know how to use them. All right, let's
- 23:09Speaker 1: move on to Seabass versus Woody. There was a very.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Which time?
- 23:13Speaker 1: Yeah, there was a kind of like an ending to
- 23:15Speaker 1: one of our breaks where they kind of started getting
- 23:17Speaker 1: into it a little bit about backing in and parking.
- 23:20Speaker 5: Right.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Let's go ahead and listen to that real quick and
- 23:22Speaker 1: then we'll comment.
- 23:22Speaker 5: Maybe you love backing in. Oh, well, that's not– that's
- 23:26Speaker 5: a whole other– No, I know. We brought that up before.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Very stupid to be against that.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:31Speaker 5: Don't get it.
- 23:31Speaker 4: I've told you a thousand times.
- 23:33Speaker 3: You're just refusing to get.
- 23:35Speaker 4: You're literally– you are literally at this point refusing to
- 23:37Speaker 4: get because I've explained the five or six different superior
- 23:39Speaker 4: reasons why you do that. That's not an answer.
- 23:42Speaker 5: Yeah, okay. It's not an answer. It is when we're
- 23:45Speaker 5: not going to like go into it further.
- 23:47Speaker 6: No, it's– Seabass, you're correct. I concede.
- 23:49Speaker 5: No. Not conceding no, because that's not the answer in
- 23:52Speaker 5: that situation. No, because either we're going to take the
- 23:54Speaker 5: time to then get back and forth on it, which
- 23:56Speaker 5: we're not going to do. We've already done that. You
- 23:59Speaker 5: should have absorbed that and said, see, Bess, you're correct.
- 24:01Speaker 3: I concede.
- 24:02Speaker 5: No, not doing that either.
- 24:03Speaker 6: Now you're just being obstinate.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Abstinent?
- 24:07Speaker 6: Abstinent, yes.
- 24:08Speaker 5: I can make the same argument for you not seeing
- 24:10Speaker 5: my side.
- 24:11Speaker 6: No, you can't, because your side's wrong. Your side's wrong.
- 24:13Speaker 5: Nope, your side's wrong.
- 24:15Speaker 3: When their side gets dismantled... Nope, your side's wrong.
- 24:17Speaker 6: Do people even know what you're talking about right now?
- 24:20Speaker 3: Backing into parking spots.
- 24:21Speaker 4: When your side gets dismantled, and then they say, well,
- 24:23Speaker 4: you haven't... No, I've proven that your side is wrong.
- 24:26Speaker 4: Abandon your position and concede.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Okay, there you go.
- 24:30Speaker 1: So you said this happens a lot between both of them.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and this is another... God... We are never going
- 24:35Speaker 2: to run out of examples of defensive, stubborn people. And
- 24:39Speaker 2: I include myself in that. Nobody can back down what
- 24:43Speaker 2: he's like. We're going to agree to disagree. We are
- 24:45Speaker 2: not going to agree to disagree.
- 24:46Speaker 5: You just have to concede that I'm right.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the funny part is Seabass demanding an acknowledgement
- 24:51Speaker 1: that he's right.
- 24:52Speaker 2: He's a poor winner.
- 24:54Speaker 1: So funny. So where do you guys stand on that?
- 24:55Speaker 1: Because I personally think. People who back into the stalls
- 24:59Speaker 1: are psychopaths.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Psychopaths. I don't get the argument that it, quote, saves time.
- 25:07Speaker 3: It takes just as much time if you're going to
- 25:09Speaker 3: back out of the spot when you're leaving as it
- 25:11Speaker 3: does to back into it when you're arriving.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Correct.
- 25:14Speaker 3: It's the same exact time.
- 25:16Speaker 2: I agree with that. And I think it actually takes
- 25:18Speaker 2: longer because everyone wants to do an extra good job,
- 25:21Speaker 2: so it takes twice as long. Also, I had to
- 25:23Speaker 2: explain this to somebody who didn't realize why... in parking
- 25:26Speaker 2: garages it says no backing in, they're like, what do
- 25:28Speaker 2: we care? Because the position you have to get in
- 25:32Speaker 2: to be able to do it stops traffic for everybody.
- 25:34Speaker 2: So it's a pain in the ass.
- 25:36Speaker 3: If you're in a parking lot and you get stuck
- 25:38Speaker 3: behind somebody and you think, what the fuck are you doing?
- 25:40Speaker 3: And then you realize, oh, you're backing in. I.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Look, Seabass could be right about the safety issue of it,
- 25:50Speaker 3: but it bothers me. I wouldn't go as far as
- 25:52Speaker 3: say they're psychopaths, but if you think you're saving time,
- 25:56Speaker 3: you're lying to yourself.
- 25:57Speaker 2: That's not the reason, yeah.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I was exaggerating a little bit there. My wife
- 26:00Speaker 1: does it a lot, too. And the funny part is
- 26:02Speaker 1: I said, why do you back in? Because you don't
- 26:05Speaker 1: park as good as when you go in front.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Right.
- 26:07Speaker 1: It's just like, whatever. You know, that's our response is whatever,
- 26:10Speaker 1: because she's way off, like super close to the wall
- 26:13Speaker 1: when she backs in. And then when she just drives in,
