- 2:15But of course it's Mayor Monday and we bring a different mayor into the studio
- 2:19to talk to us each Monday. And our good friend Kay Summers of the
- 2:23town of Clindenon, is what this this morning? Good morning, Mayor?
- 2:25How are you? Good morning Dave, how are you? I'm doing finding
- 2:28you brought the heavy hitters with you. I've brought some big timers with me
- 2:31today and I'm so excited. Matt may I interduce you can do whatever you
- 2:35want. Well, we had with us today mister Michael Kelly, and he's
- 2:38principals a new Herbert Hoover High School. He was also principal of the old
- 2:43Herbert Hoover High Spill too as well many years. And then we have coach
- 2:46Joey Fields with our Herbert Hoover High School football team. So we had some
- 2:51exciting stuff going on in the land of the Huskies, and we're gonna talk
- 2:53about that a little bit later on, but before we're gonna let's just take
- 2:55it kind of like in your chronological order. But because before we get to
- 2:59the weekend, you actually have a big event going on in town tomorrow,
- 3:01is that right? That's right? We have back to school backpack last scenes
- 3:06and uh, we're having a style show. We're having music on the stage,
- 3:09but we're letting the kids shop for the school supplies Bipike's paper, pencils,
- 3:15pens and all that for all ages. And we are real, real
- 3:20excited about that. And that was a collaborative effort of a lot of churches
- 3:23in y Our Ministerial Association and other churches have put into it. And this
- 3:28could be a big event. What time does everything starts at four o'clock on
- 3:30Main Street? Like seven rates? Yeah, so you got music, you
- 3:35had a style show, a little bit of everything going on there tomorrow and
- 3:38a question free fresh and yeah, and you're giving out the backpacks or the
- 3:40school supplies and whatever else you got going on there. So I want to
- 3:44make sure we get that in there. We'll have Further information about that available
- 3:47on Dave Island Radio on Facebook. Let me bring in Principal Mike Kelly here
- 3:53and talk a little bit about this new school principle. I mean, seven
- 3:57long years, did you ever think you'd get here? I always knew that
- 4:00we would get here, and and we we discussed with the students very early
- 4:05on that uh, that we were going to continue to have high expectations and
- 4:11that we excuses are just a reason to fail. We knew we were going
- 4:15to get here eventually. Hasn't been a long haul, it sure has.
- 4:19And but our our kids have achieved in academics and athletics at a rate greater
- 4:28than we have ever achieved in the history of the school. I'm so proud
- 4:31of them, so proud of this community. They stuck with us. Uh.
- 4:35We did not lose enrollment. O. Our enrollment is up since the
- 4:40flood and our community. I told him early on, as long as we
- 4:45hold together, as long as we stick together, that we're going to be
- 4:47fine. And we have been more than fine. We've been We've excelled.
- 4:51Uh. We've had people that have been with us forever. We have people
- 4:56that are relatively new to us, like coach Fields right here, and he's
- 5:00just brought something and added a whole new level of excitement to our community.
- 5:04And we're just super proud of what we've accomplished and the actual education component there,
- 5:11Mike. For the last couple of years, I had a chance to
- 5:13go up there at my previous job and do and work with some of the
- 5:15students up there at Herbert Hoover High School doing stuff. When to work for
- 5:18the Secretary of States officing, and you know, going into those the buildings
- 5:24that you were forced to utilize there, it was a it was a little
- 5:27difficult, you know, because it wasn't your traditional learning environment. I mean
- 5:30they were basically modular buildings for lack of a better term, and things like
- 5:33that. But those students still achieved, as you said, and it says
- 5:35something about not only the students, Mike, but I think it also says
- 5:40something about the support of the community and the parental and some cases the grand
- 5:46parental involvement as well. Well. We can start right with Kay has has
- 5:51sent us for outstanding granddaughters. We have, we have families. I'm blessed
- 6:00to work in this community because our families send us terrific kids. They're respectful,
- 6:08they try to do what you tell them to do. They try to
- 6:11they try hard to learn, They care about each other, and it's it's
- 6:15just the best place in the world to work. And I am thrilled for
- 6:19our community because I think it's mutually beneficial. I feel like they benefit us
- 6:25with what they send us with their children, and I feel like that the
- 6:29new school is going to benefit the community. I'm so excited for what's going
- 6:32on up in Clinden and everything that K and them are doing and kind of
- 6:36trying to reinvent Clendon and in the whole community. That our property values are
- 6:44up. People are buying up real estate looking to build, and I just
- 6:48believe a rising tide raises all ships. And I really believe that it's an
- 6:54exciting time and what we may be able to accomplish in the coming years and
- 6:57decades on Elk River is very exciting. Talk about what that first day of
- 7:01instruction is going to look like for Herbert Over High School. We get the
- 7:04football at the moment, it's talk about the academics. Yeah, it's gonna
- 7:06be. The first day is always a little bit of a strange day,
- 7:11you know, you get no matter what the school, no matter what it
- 7:14is. But this this is gonna be a little bit different too. We
- 7:15can't bring the kids in for an orientation because we still have active construction going
- 7:20on, so right up to the last minute, they gets right up to
- 7:24the last minute, and probably even past the last minute. We're gonna be
- 7:27working around some folks, but that's okay. We'll adapt like we always have.
- 7:31The first day is going to be a lot of first day stuff,
- 7:34form, submergency cards, things like that, and then it's going to be
- 7:39orientation. We're gonna have the teachers take the kids around the building because they
- 7:43don't know where everything is yet, so we're gon we're gonna have to teach
- 7:46them that. But we'll get all that taken care of first day, first
- 7:49couple of days, and then we'll get back after it and get on with
- 7:54instruction. But now everything is going to be set to go. Yeah,
- 7:57we're gonna go on the first day, we're gonna go. We're gonna be
- 8:00We're going to be adapting and working around work in progressors that are doing finishing
- 8:03work. But we've learned to adapt very well. Well. Yeah, seven
- 8:07years would be just fun. I have no doubt let me talk to UH
- 8:11head football coach Joey Fields. What does what does this mean coach for you
- 8:16and your team to actually be able to get into the state of the art
- 8:22facility and and get back. I mean you have you never left the field,
- 8:24but I mean to have quote unquote a little bit more normal. No,
- 8:28it's exciting time. You know, our our students and our athletes.
- 8:33Everyone has done more with less than anyone, you know, anyone in the
- 8:37States. So it's an exciting time to be a part of Herbert Hoover,
- 8:41our staff, our community, our student body. And we stressed to our
- 8:45football team in the off season, is our hard work isn't matching the expectation
- 8:50and the excitement we now have. And if it is, then we think
- 8:52we can have another competitive team. But no, to have the facilities and
- 8:58the school and it's it's special. So we don't take it for granted,
- 9:01and we try to stress that to our kids. But I think they understand
- 9:05that and they've worked hard so far. As a coach, how do you
- 9:09put all the distractions and all the hoop I behind him concentrate on the on
- 9:13the field stuff. Yeah, well, there's definitely that. And because there's
- 9:16still a football game once the regular seat and you have the scrimmage coming up.
- 9:20We'll talk about that at a bit, but there's still a football game
- 9:22at a football season to play. Absolutely, you know, we want to
- 9:26you know, we want to give them those experiences and those memories. But
- 9:28also we tell them is when the helmet's trapped up and you know, it's
- 9:33in between the lines, it's about playing football and executing and playing hard.
- 9:37But no, our kids understand what they're part of and what's coming and what
- 9:43we have that a lot of people have worked very, very hard to get
- 9:46for them. So no, we have, like mister Kelly said, we
- 9:50have a good group of kids that act right and work hard and it makes
- 9:54it enjoyable to be around them each day no matter no matter what. Let's
- 9:58talk about this scrimmage you got coming up. Yeah, this is like the
- 10:03most anticipated scrimmage in the history of high school sports in West Virginia. Absolutely.
- 10:09No, we tell him, you're playing in the biggest you are,
- 10:11You're playing in the biggest scrimmage in the history of West Virginia school you are.
- 10:15Yeah, But it's it's fun and we've been in a lot you know,
- 10:16maybe not an atmosphere like this. Yeah, we were fortunate to play
- 10:20for a state championship last year and played in some big games here in the
- 10:24last couple of years. But yeah, I want them to I want them
- 10:28to soak it in and enjoy it. But also it's you know we are
- 10:35We're eight practices now and one scrimmage for it being real, and they'll be
- 10:39keeping score then, so we have to take that advantage when we do get
- 10:41it to get better. And you've also got a special guest, Mayor,
- 10:46I'll bring you in on this. A guy by the name of Paisley is
- 10:50going to be showing up there to I guess to cheer on his alma mater
- 10:52and it scrimmage. Right, you're right. I think mister Kelly needs to
- 10:56tell you about to have a club. He think he has joined the Paisley
- 11:01team entourage. I think he's gonna be an assistant manager. Now let's talk
- 11:05about how, how how it is that Brad Paisley got involved in this whole
- 11:07thing to begin with, because when the flood happened in twenty sixteen, there
- 11:11were several political folks in West Virginia natives and all got a part. But
- 11:15Brad Paisley was one of those that was like, from what I remember and
- 11:18what I recall, was one of the first ones to show up to make
- 11:22phone calls and say what can I do? And this hasn't been like we
- 11:24see with a lot of celebrities. They just show up, they shovel something,
- 11:28and they take a picture and they leave. He has been an active
- 11:31part, Brad Paisley has, mister Kelly of this entire process. Has he
- 11:35not? He has, but both both both Brad and Jennifer Garner were on
- 11:41the ground very early on, and as you said, it wasn't just a
- 11:45photo op for them. They then put their money where their mouth was and
- 11:48they went out and they helped raise funds for fred flood relief and so h.
- 11:56And then as we got closer to opening, uh, there were some
- 12:01folks Jennifer Wentz who reached and some of our band parents who reached out to
- 12:05mister Paisley, and he expressed an interest in coming back and trying to kind
- 12:09of bring it full circle. And then it has kind of evolved from there.
- 12:16Okay, and it's it's been a lot of work, but it's it's
- 12:20for a good cause and you know, Coach Fields was talking about one of
- 12:24the things that we as educators love is to give our kids opportunities to do
- 12:31special things, just like he was talking about with our our state tournament run
- 12:35last year and our kids getting to go to Mountaineer Field and getting to go
- 12:39up and play in Frankfurt in a semifinals, getting to go to Wheeling.
- 12:43And it's not only for the football players, is for I mean, when
- 12:46when something like that happens, it raises up everybody in the school. I
- 12:52mean, the kids get excited and they get these opportunities, and this is
- 12:56another opportunity for our kids to do something special that very few schools can provide
- 13:03for them. So that's that's why it's worth the effort. It's worth the
- 13:07work that I'm putting in that Kas putting in k is my co principal right
- 13:13now, Coach Fields is putting in h Carrie is putting in Jennifer. It's
- 13:22a it's a huge effort, but it's worth the effort because it's something that
- 13:26these kids will never forget. So what exactly is going to go on with
- 13:28this scrimmage? Because I know the schedule is kind of kind of fluctuated a
- 13:31little bit, but give us the time and give it. Tell us exactly
- 13:35what people are going to see we can get. Gates are going to open
- 13:37at two thirty and the nineteen Yeah, by the way, we're gonna be
- 13:43broadcasting live from there starting I think Chris is gonna start about four. Chris
- 13:46and Jeff and the team are going to be up there starting about four,
- 13:48But gates open at two thirty. Gates open at two thirty. We will
- 13:52have our our marching band will kick off at four thirty. The ribbon cutting
- 13:58for the new school will start at four forty five. Football will start at
- 14:03five forty five, and then we expect mister Paisley to come one between seven
- 14:09and seven fifteen if everything stays on schedule. Now, this is a non
- 14:13concert. It's I don't know exactly what we're calling it, but I came
- 14:16up with the term non concert because you know his people. I guess said,
- 14:20you know, this is not a concert. It's not gonna but I'm
- 14:22gonna tell you something about Brad Paisley, And I've told you guys, this
- 14:24is off the air. I attended an event at the Greenbrier not long ago,
- 14:28well last year with Brad Paisley, and it was non concert. Brad
- 14:33Paisley's got more ten people he's singing. I mean he's gonna do something.
- 14:37I think, let me say, I think one of the things and this
- 14:39thing has evolved as I've said, okay, but I think they don't want
- 14:45to give the expectation that he's going to do a full ninety minute right yet
- 14:48like he normally does. But let me just say, I would anticipate it
- 14:56will be somewhere between and ninety minute answered and him just waving his hand and
- 15:01saying howover, okay, somewhere somewhere in between there, Okay. It's like
- 15:05that's like coach Fields saying, well, it's either we're either going to go
- 15:09out and pass the football around or we're gonna get overtime in this thing.
- 15:11It's it's gonna be one of the two. Well you know what classifies a
- 15:15concert? Yeah you s yeah? So how so how are you are you
- 15:20doing as far as letting people in for this thing, because there's gonna be
- 15:22a lot of people with no ties necessarily, you know, from the Kanal
- 15:26Valley that are just going to say, hey, I want a chance to
- 15:28see Brad Paisley. How how's that work. We've We've done. We've we
- 15:33tried hard. From the start. We we sold we started selling tickets kind
- 15:37of in waves. We wanted to make sure a that our students were taking
- 15:41care of of course, be that our alumni were taking care of, see
- 15:46that our community were taking care of. Uh. And so we kind of
- 15:50we kind of sold it in cycles. And uh. We we are continuing.
- 15:56The Mayor and I are passing out field passes to Oaks all this week.
- 16:00We just got those in hand literally Friday, right, So we're we're
- 16:07we're hustling on this thing. And we are expecting in the ballpark of five
- 16:14thousand people up there, and we will be uh, we have we have
- 16:18about eight hundred parking spots on site. We will be parking and running shuttles
- 16:22from elp You Middle School, Help You Baptist Church, and from the old
- 16:26Kmart parking lot out at the out at the interstate there on exit nine.
- 16:32KRT has been very good to help us with shuttles. Let me also say
- 16:37the County Commission, Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services have been all hands on
- 16:44deck to help us with this with this event, and we're very grateful to
- 16:48them indeed, right, we're really real excited. May What does all this
- 16:52mean for the town of Clintons As we close the segment, it's not only
- 16:55the town of Clinton, it's the Elk River our resence, and everyone's really
- 17:00is excited. Everybody's talking about it. They want to get up there.
- 17:03They're excited about the new school. I can't wait for them to wake in
- 17:07the first day. It's absolutely wonderful. Like Mike and Coach Fields said,
- 17:12this is another opportunity for our kids because some will never experience anything like this
- 17:17ever. Yeah, and uh, it's it's school teaching pride too, because
- 17:21everything's nice and new, nice, new and clean and clean, which is
- 17:23not very common in the world of public schools. Is that right, mister
- 17:27Kelly. I will tell you mister Kelly's stress is nice and clean in his
- 17:33school, so I'm sure that is. But it's absolutely beautiful and we're all
- 17:37excited about this. It's going to be a great time and weather fingers crossed
- 17:41looks absolutely perfect for all the activities this weekend. So guys, I appreciate
- 17:45Mayor some are always a pleasure to have you on the show. Uh,
- 17:48and mister Kelly, thank you for being here as well, and Coach Fields
- 17:52good luck with everything. It's going to be an exciting time and it's the
- 17:55state of the art facilities. And I haven't had a chance to see the
- 17:57school by I know Carrie who to sec from a news to one up there,
- 18:00and there are from one, I mean there are Division one schools that
- 18:03don't have some of the facilities like like you have up there. So all

- 22:07in Martinsburg. I run day My husband and I run daycare center, and
- 22:11we are so happy to be doing what we're doing. To be blessed that
- 22:17we're able to provide service to the community and to work with children and families.
- 22:21So what are you doing in Charleston today? I mean you're out campaigning,
- 22:23but what specifically are you doing today? I have a few appointments Tonight,
- 22:27I have an engagement with the unions and also tomorrow with the Vette County
- 22:37Goop meeting, and I'm very excited and today with you right now, so
- 22:41I will be here until Wednesday. And also I would love to walk downtown
- 22:45and just you know, meet and greet people, which my favorite. Okay,
- 22:48that's that's what you gotta do. So do you want to be governor?
- 22:51I would want to share the things that I could see would benefit us,
- 22:55and that would be the preventive measures. My platform runs on ap uIP
- 23:00first, Peace to protect, and that would be to place police on duties
- 23:04in schools so that we can help all the happenings in the school premises,
- 23:10like you know, drug transactions and also pullice. And also to ensure that
- 23:15we protect our children from these gender identities so that we can actually have women
- 23:22sports for women only, men's sports for men only, and also pro life
- 23:26definitely, and to make sure that our children, our babies who are going
- 23:30to come are going to be ready and our parents are going to be so
- 23:33educated to actually have all the availability on bringing the child and also daycares to
- 23:41provide them and then also to letter you is to upgrade. Now, why
- 23:45do I want to put upgrade in there? We have to make public schools
- 23:48great again, instill reading program, paid extracurricular activities, and give teachers and
- 23:53admit the extra time for planning and unwind. They also need time to evaluate.
- 23:59Now these funding and I'm looking at will be tapped from cure budget to
- 24:03preventive measures. Name me any preventive measures that we are actually introducing right now,
- 24:07like clothes to zero. We are so absorbing concentrate on how to help
- 24:12people, you know, open more juvenile, open more mental illness clinic.
- 24:17What are we doing to stop this from progressing from increasing? We have to
- 24:22help our people, our children so that this, you know, things will
- 24:27not keep increasing. We got to decrease it. Drug problems is a major
- 24:32issue. I hear this. Forever somebody got a step up and who about
- 24:37it to do the job. Then we ourselves the people well and somebody who
- 24:41has spent their life at least to your adult life as far as I know,
- 24:45working with kids. And I mean a matter of fact, the highlight
- 24:48of your platform I was doing some of the research on you last night,
- 24:51is you talk about your dedication to kids and families. Yes, I do,
- 24:53sir, and a lot can be done for them. With them,
- 24:56they are our draw ving forced driving factor. There will be no state if
- 25:03there are no people. I'm bending over backwards to make sure that people don't
- 25:07leave. Now for the next I is is up to invest. Now,
- 25:11we need to have local investment. I came up with these counties who which
- 25:18will open like a sub county department where by our retirees can actually invest locally.
- 25:23And what happened is that you can actually let the counties kind of like
- 25:27look into it. For example, ten retires put in two hundred thousand,
- 25:32that's two million, buy a land, build houses and do it a sell
- 25:36here, buy here, pay here kind of deal. And that will make
- 25:38our West Virginia look forward like, hey, I could buy home, you
- 25:42know, and I will definitely work hard to pay mortgage instead of sky rocket
- 25:48a rent. And if we get West Virginia to excel, which the last
- 25:53thing would be pe promote, we do not have to worry about getting everybody
- 25:57to come here to make it better. We make it better and we perform
- 26:02and we excel. People are gonna come, and guess what if they come,
- 26:06especially investors who would like to invest, it will be our term for
- 26:11the first time. Talking to Republican Canada for Governor Rashida yost here in five
- 26:15eighty Live and Rashida, you'd have to admit that getting to the governor's mansion
- 26:21is it's gonna be a bit of a struggle. I mean, you've got
- 26:23some pretty heavy hitters out there, like Patrick Morrissey and Mack Warner and Chris
- 26:26Miller and more capital. I mean, you got some pretty heavy hitters out
- 26:33there. What's your plan? Oh my, it is so nice you ask,
- 26:37because I love answering this question. It's one of my favorite. Now
- 26:40I go back to when again, you know, when we grow up,
- 26:45we look at the turtle and the rabbit story. Now, of course,
- 26:48with having all that big names, you know, they kind of like have
- 26:52a head start and being rabbits. You know, they're okay, we were
- 26:55fast, we can run. We got our names up there. But what
- 26:59they fail to see, maybe it's like a turtle who would walk and not
- 27:03take a break and take every moment to get to the destination and finally win
- 27:08the game. We'll best to luck to you on man, thank you.
- 27:12I mean, what's the campaign been like so far? I mean it's kind
- 27:18of a grassroots efford. You're out there just shaking hands and meeting people and
- 27:21speaking of groups and whatever. Hasn't been so far? Yes, the sad
- 27:23thing about it is that I, you know, people talk to me and
- 27:27they tell me exactly what I feel, what exactly I'm going to do for
- 27:32them. And these are the people crying for help, and I cannot imagine
- 27:37why, you know, other our leaders are not listening. I keep telling
- 27:41everybody whom I met in counties and also at affairs and even meet and greet.
- 27:45I hear you, I see you, and that is why this is
- 27:51why I am running for you, to make a difference and to make the
- 27:55people be noticed, the needs met, and also to sell again. Talking
- 28:00again with Republican candidate Forgotnor Rashida yost here on five eighty Live Rashida. Some
- 28:04have said that the Republican Party as a whole is not very welcoming towards women.
- 28:11Obviously. I think people like Shelley Moore Capital and Carol Miller just named
- 28:15if you might have something to say about that, but you're taking that.
- 28:19I am going to say that being a woman is very blessed. We actually
- 28:25get to give birth and also we get to nurture. And I don't feel
- 28:30any inferior or any kind of like a situation whereby I feel that it's not
- 28:38gonna be mine just because I'm a woman. And for that, my turtle
- 28:44motivation is going to go hit you know, skyrocket and also to one to
- 28:48give a light to all the women in the world, not just West Virginia,
- 28:53in the nation, in the world that with good intentions in your heart
- 28:59and God for your blessing, you can go anywhere. And like I said,
- 29:04being a woman doesn't undermine me. I don't feel any kind of like,
- 29:07oh maybe I'm a woman, that's why. And honestly, I'm not
- 29:11even gonna do any woman coalition. I didn't like, Okay, let's go
- 29:15for the woman vote. You know, I feel that everybody matters, and
- 29:18I have proven that I wanted the man to feel as comfortable as the woman.
- 29:23That I'm a team player and I'm for everybody. And we have a
- 29:26job, we have an oath that we will take. We have a state
- 29:32to serve and to serve only give me the thirty second elevator speech. Why
- 29:37should someone vote for Rashidios for governor? Because I care, because I put
- 29:41children in families, the people first, and because I feel that to be
- 29:47heard, you have to send one of us to be the loudest and the
- 29:49biggest voice. And I am her, and I will fight for us.
- 29:53I will make sure that we get what we need, and I will make
- 29:56sure that we the people are gonna be given the attention. I'm going to
- 30:00be cared for, and I'm going to excel, and we the people are
- 30:04going to make West Virginia proud. Where can people learn more about your campaign?

- 36:45welcome. Mike Pushkin and Tony Hodge on tomorrow's five eighty Live with Dave Allen.
- 36:49Now that having been said, let me see if I can pull it
- 36:52up here. Just before I came downstairs to do the show this morning,
- 36:54I got a press release from the State Republican Party and Chairman Elija McCart issuing
- 37:00a statement on Democrats fleeing their party. This is a quote from the press
- 37:05release. You'll see it all over the news. The West Virginia Republican Party
- 37:08is growing by the day as more and more voters feel left behind by the
- 37:12Democratic Party, and we are developing an affinity for our common sense conservative platform.
- 37:17As Republicans in West Virginia approach an unprecedented one hundred thousand registered voter advantage.
- 37:22It's clear that the Republican Party is the true governing party in our state,
- 37:27and we are a big tent for voters who believe in responsible governance.
- 37:30West Virginians who which join the Republican Party can do so go votewv dot com.
- 37:36While again continuing with the press release, While it is certainly exciting to
- 37:38witness these historic registration games for the West Virginia GOP, it's also important to
- 37:44recognize that anyone can change their party registration. That does not mean they necessarily
- 37:47adhere to our values or our platform. Primary voters should be vigilant in researching
- 37:52candidates who seek Republican nominations to thoroughly ascertain where candidates stand on the issues and
- 37:59which office seekers a line most with their views. Cardinal concluded, the West
- 38:02Virginia Republican Party welcomes all those who believe and our calls, and it will
- 38:07be the responsibility of the Republican primary voters to dominate candidates who have demonstrated their
- 38:12commitment to Republican principles and ideals. That is a statement that went out about
- 38:17ten and fifteen minutes so before I went on the air from the State Republican
- 38:22Party Chairwoman Elgin mccarnell. Fifteen minutes away from ten. It is Backpack Attack
- 38:27time. Our sister station, one of the seven three the Beat, teaming
- 38:30up with Todd Judy Motives for annual Backpack Attack. It will take place in
- 38:32the parking lot here at eleven at eleven Virginia Street, DC and Charleston this
- 38:37Thursday. This is the sixteenth year that we have done this. We have
- 38:40five hundred backpacks to give away now. The line up Schola started at two
- 38:45o'clock and the backpacks will be given out from three till five this Thursday,
- 38:49while supplies last. Kids must be present. Okay, you gotta have the
- 38:52kids with you and in order to get these backpacks. It's gonna be a
- 38:57lot of fun, you know. And even though this promotion is something we've
- 39:00done for the last sixteen years on the Beat, this is another example of
- 39:05us giving back to the community and all of the stations getting involved in this.
- 39:07We'll all be out there. I'm looking forward to it. Hope you
- 39:10can join us as well. Text says Dave. Will you take questions tomorrow?
- 39:15Text questions? Yes, absolutely, I will take text questions from mister
- 39:19Pushkin and mister Hodge on the show tomorrow, tex says only Democrats left in
- 39:23the legislature are progressives and their future is not bright for them. Yeah,
- 39:29I would I would agree. I would agree so kind of along those same
- 39:36lines. I didn't get a chance to get into this last week, and
- 39:37that is Senator Joe Manchin and his tea is on Hoppy last week that he
- 39:43is looking at possibly possibly switching parties to independent or no party. And you
- 39:52know that talk is really no surprise to us in West Virginia, but apparently,
- 39:58based on some of the national coverage that I was trying to catch up
- 40:01on over the weekend, it was a surprise to a lot of the folks
- 40:04on the national level. And look, you know, Senator, Senator Mansion
- 40:14is in a tough spot here. And hear me out when I say this.
- 40:19When I say that it seems like no one wants him, I always
- 40:22sounds cold to say, but again, hear me out on this. Obviously,
- 40:28the Republicans aren't exactly enamored with Senator Mansion as you would expect, but
- 40:35by the same token, many Democrats aren't either, And as Hoppy pointed,
- 40:40out last week as a Democrat. Joe Mansion really hasn't changed. He is
- 40:46still a classic West Virginia Democrat and always was. Now there's a couple of
- 40:51things here there, you know that maybe he kind of got away from that,
- 40:55just on a couple of things. But by and large, I think
- 40:58that most political experts, which I'm not one, would say that Joe Mansion
- 41:01is a classic West Virginia Democrat. The issue, in my opinion, we'll
- 41:07get into this with Pushkin and Hodge tomorrow, is that the party's changed.
- 41:10The party has gone left, way left, much more so than in years
- 41:21past, and it's left a lot of Middle America, not just West Virginia,
- 41:24but a lot of medical and what we call the flyover states, the
- 41:30normal people, and it's dust. And I have no insight as to what
- 41:35Joe Mansion is going to do. I mentioned this last week. I was
- 41:37with one of his staffers in a meeting last week, nothing to do with
- 41:42politics or anything, just we just happen to be in the same place.
- 41:44And it's a person I've known that's worked for Senator Mansion for a long time
- 41:47now. And I asked this person, I said, so, what do
- 41:52you think and they said, honestly, I don't know. He didn't seem
- 41:59to think Senator Manson was going to run for president, but as far as
- 42:00the party changed now, he didn't. Really. This person didn't really give
- 42:04me any insight there whether he's gonna switch to independent or or whatever. Wow,
- 42:10Textures are busy today. Texture says Republicans need to be where are fraudulent
- 42:15Democrats trying to infiltrate the West? Virginia g O P Test says, will
- 42:23Pushkin have his his seminar, callers and textures ready to pounce tomorrow? Asking
- 42:29for a friend? I don't know. I mean, I'll take the same
- 42:34amount of texts and calls that we always get on the show. Now where
- 42:37they come from? You know, I don't know. I don't know.
- 42:40Texts says, Uh, it's not pro life, it's pro birth that is
- 42:45the fraud perpetrated by all these so called pro lifers. Pro life is cool
- 42:49as lung as as it means I can control others, if it means I
- 42:52may be inconvenient slightly by mask requirements. For example, didn't forget pro life
- 43:00Texas. Be careful the party changes. Seems like politicians are concerned for their
- 43:04job. Are they for us or a paycheck? Five ety Live is brought

- 46:15Tech says of Mansion was an adjudicated sex abuser who tried to overthrow the
- 46:17government. He'd be a lock for reelection. Tex says better watch Pushkin tomorrow.
- 46:23He has a proven history of flying off the handle when he sees free
- 46:27speech he doesn't like on a poster according to a texture, Well, it's
- 46:31back to school time this week, depending on where you are. If it's
- 46:35not this week, it will be soon. Personnel back in the buildings Kanaan
- 46:37County today. First day for students is this Friday. A back to story
- 46:43Back to School story posted WCHS network dot com featuring some quotes from the interview
- 46:46last week. But I did with American Federation of Teachers President Fred Albert.
- 46:51The communications director for Kanaan County Schools, Brandon Warner, says there are still
- 46:54vacancies for teacher slots in the county, but they meeting Kanaan County are actually
- 47:01in much better shape than what they have been in years past. Brianna Warner
- 47:07says about twenty posted teaching positions is what they have now, which is better
- 47:13than where they've been in years past. There are also, of course,
- 47:16several positions available for service and other such positions. He says. They are
- 47:20recruiting now for special education, AIDS, bus drivers, etc. And you
- 47:23can read the story read more than the story at WCHS network dot com,
- 47:30speaking to which I got an email there during the break. I had reached
- 47:32out to Brianna Warner earlier about having Superintendent Tom Williams on the show. He
- 47:37will be on the show this coming Thursday, the day before classes started Kanaan
- 47:40County. He'll be on the show on Thursday. I want to say congratulations
- 47:45to a few people here at eleven eleven announced last week that our friends in
- 47:49the basement the building is very very much divided with three four floors here,
- 47:54but Steve bish M, Jenny Murray from our morning show in v one hundred,
- 47:59along with the big boss around here, Joe Parsons, will be inducted
- 48:01into the West Virginia Broadcasting Hall of Fame. Now that induction ceremony schedule for
- 48:07October three at the Hall of Fame which is in the Radio and Television Museum
- 48:10and Huntington. So congratulatess Stephen, Jenny and Joe all legends in the broadcasting
- 48:15world, not only legends in this building, but legends in the business.
- 48:20Stephen Jenny have been together for thirty four years doing the show together. That's
- 48:24incredible. It really really so much much deserved and congratulations to all Texas.
- 48:32The state of neglect of the adoption system in West Virginia is the evidence of
- 48:37conservatives quote pro life stance as the other texture mentioned. Conservatives are pro birth
- 48:43because once the person is born, Conservatives believe the government no longer needs to
- 48:46be involved. Well, could there be another Trump indictment this week? This
- 48:54one in Georgia for his efforts to find more votes following the twenty twenty election.
- 49:00Now, many legal experts say this could be the one. I know,
- 49:04you've heard it before, but the Stormy Daniels thing, No, the
- 49:07January sixth thing. It's going to be really hard to prove, but many
- 49:10say this one could be legit. This case has been two and a half
- 49:15years in the making, much longer time spent on this one, apparently more
- 49:20than the others. And you've heard me talked about it before. The more
- 49:24indictments the former President Trump gets, the more his base loves him, and
- 49:30the more of the donations to his campaign roll in. I mean, if
- 49:34I'm Trump, I'm lucky for things to get indicted for. At this point,
- 49:37you know I'm going I'm pointing out stuff to prosecutors. Hey, in
- 49:40two thousand and three, did you know I did this? Or last week
- 49:45did you know I did it? Because again, the more indictments he get,
- 49:47the more he gets, the more likely he is to be the nominee
- 49:51for president on the Republican ticket. This is the alternative universe that we now
- 50:00I live in. Folks. Now, let's switch over to President Biden in
- 50:04a situation one hunter, and this crab gets even deeper. If you were
- 50:09if you were to get into a time machine and go back twenty or thirty
- 50:15years and someone told you that the two leading candidates for president, well,
- 50:23first of all, they told you that they would have a goodbye age of
- 50:25eight hundred and seventy seven, you probably wouldn't believe it. But if you
- 50:30were told that the candidates could possible one could possibly have four or more indictments
- 50:39and the other is accused of having his son pedal his father's influence to line
- 50:45his own pockets, someone would think, whoever told you that was crazy?
- 50:51But here we are again. I've set it for some time in a land
- 50:54that is home to three hundred and thirty two million people. These two are
- 51:01the best we can do. Really, it kind of makes you think back
- 51:07to things like Iran Contra, or Watergate, or Monica Lewinsky. It makes
- 51:13them all kind of look tame by comparison. Tex says, you know,
- 51:17there are several options you have to even avoid the possibility of unwanted and unplanned
- 51:22pregnancy, keeping your legs closed, using a condom, birth control pills,
- 51:25or a shot absinence. God forbid, you'd be responsible in practice any of
- 51:30the above, so you won't have to be in a position of killing an
- 51:32innocent unborn child. You know, the recipient of the punishment for your actions,
- 51:37not theirs. Tech says Dave, looking forward to Pushkin and Hodges to
- 51:42our Actually it's Hodge. But when we get the idea, just let them
- 51:45talk and you stay out of it noted, Texas so happy to have Herbert
- 51:52Hoover High School built. Go Huskies, tex said, did to Texas,
- 51:55Dave, did you really say that Charleston was a marshalltown and not a wvutun.
- 52:00What are you smoking, dude? No one cares about the Huntington Community
- 52:04College here. Well well, editor's note, I would say you may want
- 52:07to look at the attendance at the Paint the Capitol City Green event last year
- 52:12or last week. I should say about four hundred or so. So anyway,
- 52:16all right, we gotta go. Thank you so much to all my
- 52:19guests today, all the folks from Clinton and Herbert Hoover High School and Republican
- 52:22gubernatorial candidate Rashida Yos. Tomorrow it's Hodge versus Pushkin Hoppy with the news coming
- 52:27up. I will see you tomorrow. Till tomorrow, have fun. I
- 52:30love somebody. W h at six point five and Charleston one O four point
