- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the tech Talk Radio Network.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Hear a cable guy and you're listening to tech cock Radio.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Welcome to another episode of tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor,
- 0:13Speaker 1: I'm Sean de Weird, and we are watching the well,
- 0:17Speaker 1: actually you're watching the weather. But you've just enthralled me
- 0:21Speaker 1: with what's available out there when it comes to weather watching.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Yeah, so last you know, we were going to record
- 0:26Speaker 2: Monday night, but you said, hey, there's some storms coming through. Yeah,
- 0:29Speaker 2: well let's do tomorrow night. And then I logged on tonight.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I was like, hey, just fy, who got some storms
- 0:34Speaker 2: coming through? And then I put this up on the screen.
- 0:38Speaker 1: So wow, we have to the southwest.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Of US currently that we're recording about the nine thirty
- 0:44Speaker 2: Tuesday night, and we've got some pretty severe weather coming
- 0:48Speaker 2: through the area for US. So I've been glued to
- 0:52Speaker 2: a YouTuber named Ryan Hall right as a meteorologist who
- 0:57Speaker 2: does a lot of severe weather across the country.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Just to give you an idea, like this guy Ryan,
- 1:04Speaker 1: how many people are watching his feed which he's doing
- 1:07Speaker 1: live reporting on this storm activity that's happening. And yeah,
- 1:11Speaker 1: so he's.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Tracking storms ranging all the way down tornado Alley from Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa,
- 1:19Speaker 2: or you know, all the way down to the south
- 1:22Speaker 2: of Texas. He's got one hundred and seventy eight thousand
- 1:24Speaker 2: people watching his live stream right now.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Oh my lord.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Well, but it's cool because like he tracks these storms,
- 1:30Speaker 2: he pays storm chasers licensing fees to use their content,
- 1:35Speaker 2: which they live stream, and then he can pull right
- 1:37Speaker 2: into his application, right into his stream. So if you're
- 1:41Speaker 2: watching the video or he's going to ride Hall on YouTube,
- 1:44Speaker 2: you can watch his stuff. It's he does a really
- 1:46Speaker 2: good job of tracking these storms and detailing what could
- 1:50Speaker 2: be happening where it's tracking. It's more real time than
- 1:54Speaker 2: your local news. They don't have to break into you know,
- 1:57Speaker 2: days of our lives or you know something, and it's
- 2:00Speaker 2: just he bounces around showing all these storms around the country.
- 2:03Speaker 2: And he's been tracking the storm that's coming south of
- 2:06Speaker 2: us right now. It's been damaging through parts of Illinois
- 2:09Speaker 2: and so in parts of northwest Indiana, So just keeping
- 2:12Speaker 2: an eye on it. If you can hear the ham
- 2:15Speaker 2: radio like my hand radio on in the background, and
- 2:16Speaker 2: there's a couple guys on the two meter the two
- 2:19Speaker 2: meter frequency, just talking about it. I'm picking people up
- 2:22Speaker 2: from the south south part of my where my ham
- 2:27Speaker 2: radio will reach. It's just keep great, just keeping track
- 2:29Speaker 2: of you know, where the storm is. You know, if
- 2:32Speaker 2: somebody needs help, I can pay attention and listen and stuff.
- 2:34Speaker 1: But now for anybody, unless YouTube gets mad at us
- 2:36Speaker 1: for sharing this, for anybody that you know, wants to
- 2:40Speaker 1: see what this guy has now, does he just focus
- 2:43Speaker 1: on this part? But like if we're getting rough weather
- 2:46Speaker 1: in Arizona or for our listeners in New Mexico, does
- 2:49Speaker 1: oh yeah.
- 2:50Speaker 2: He tracks blizzards in the wintertime, he tracks haboobs, he
- 2:54Speaker 2: tracks whatever, you know, dust storms, you name it, like,
- 2:56Speaker 2: he tracks it all. He's a big weather nut that
- 2:58Speaker 2: just tracks big storms on the country. He's he's just
- 3:01Speaker 2: got a really unique way of displaying it and talking
- 3:04Speaker 2: about it. He's got other like industry professionals that pop in.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Right now, he's interviewing another meteorologist that is also tracking
- 3:11Speaker 2: these storms. That gives a little bit more detailed information.
- 3:14Speaker 2: He can go live to these storm chasers and get
- 3:18Speaker 2: in the field reporting live from these streamers that are
- 3:22Speaker 2: you know, chasing these storms and stuff. And you're you know,
- 3:24Speaker 2: you can see some of this content of them chasing
- 3:27Speaker 2: the storms and wow, just for just providing real time
- 3:31Speaker 2: on the ground information about these storms, It's just cool.
- 3:34Speaker 2: It's uh, Ryan Hall on YouTube. There's a couple other
- 3:37Speaker 2: ones out on YouTube also that are good at tracking
- 3:40Speaker 2: these storms, but he just seems to have the best
- 3:42Speaker 2: platform for it.
- 3:43Speaker 1: And it's see, how did you know? I'm sure there's
- 3:46Speaker 1: different ways, but how does how do they monetize that?
- 3:49Speaker 1: Obviously somebody got has this is this is like a
- 3:52Speaker 1: lot of workbody.
- 3:53Speaker 2: So he's he got picked up by weather Wise, which
- 3:56Speaker 2: is a weather rate weather app in a web site,
- 4:00Speaker 2: and I think they bankrolled him. I think they just said,
- 4:04Speaker 2: you are bringing this in so much money. You can
- 4:06Speaker 2: download the Weatherwise app and you can get the you
- 4:10Speaker 2: can enable the Ryan Hall y'all mode.
- 4:14Speaker 1: All right, what is that? R?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just his catchphrase, right, it's Ryan Hall y'all.
- 4:19Speaker 2: He's a YouTube personality, right, So but it enables extra
- 4:23Speaker 2: features on the app, whether you know, different tracking, lightning tracking, whatever.
- 4:28Speaker 2: It's it's you know, it's all about YouTube personality stuff.
- 4:31Speaker 2: So oh, he's I would call him a weather influencer.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Well yeah, that would work. I mean think about it. Though,
- 4:38Speaker 1: in the days of weather we had that hippie dippy
- 4:41Speaker 1: weather man that would, you know, point to the wall
- 4:43Speaker 1: and show what was going on. But now we're so
- 4:46Speaker 1: interactive with today's technology that he can actually bring people
- 4:51Speaker 1: that are in an area that he's become trusted at
- 4:54Speaker 1: least to know they're not gonna, you know, do anything
- 4:57Speaker 1: they shouldn't be doing or whatnot, and bring them up
- 4:59Speaker 1: and their weather conditions right.
- 5:01Speaker 2: And he's got deals with certain certain counties around the
- 5:06Speaker 2: country that he can bring in their county, like webcams
- 5:09Speaker 2: and traffic camps, and he can pull those up live
- 5:11Speaker 2: in his stream. And it's just just a cool way
- 5:14Speaker 2: to view it because he's constantly bouncing around the country
- 5:17Speaker 2: showing all these storms and letting people know that, hey,
- 5:20Speaker 2: there's storm's coming. So last week Friday, I drove up
- 5:24Speaker 2: together Rapids for a funeral and was driving back and
- 5:29Speaker 2: there was a storm that came through about a half
- 5:30Speaker 2: an hour south of where I was driving for It
- 5:32Speaker 2: was never warned tornado by the National Weather Service. Oh
- 5:36Speaker 2: but if you had been following Ryan Hall, he had
- 5:39Speaker 2: it warned on his weather app and had tracked it
- 5:42Speaker 2: all the way through until well after it had been
- 5:45Speaker 2: warned by the National Weather Service. So you've been watching
- 5:49Speaker 2: his stream, you could have had a better idea of
- 5:53Speaker 2: what had been happening, versus waiting for your weather radio
- 5:56Speaker 2: to go off saying there's a tornado your app on
- 5:58Speaker 2: your phone, et cetera. It's just an interesting way to
- 6:01Speaker 2: track the storm. And you know, he's getting publicly available
- 6:05Speaker 2: weather data, right. These weather apps just pull in publicly
- 6:08Speaker 2: available radar weather, just like your local mediologists do, and
- 6:13Speaker 2: then they forecast it on their own, or they use
- 6:15Speaker 2: built in forecasting, or they take whatever forecasting that they're
- 6:19Speaker 2: paying for, weather Max, you know, whatever platform they're using.
- 6:23Speaker 2: So he's just interpretating, interpreting this data to the best
- 6:28Speaker 2: of his knowledge, right, and he brings another professionals to
- 6:31Speaker 2: help him.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Let me ask you, has that ever happened? Do you
- 6:33Speaker 1: shun where so you get the tornado warning? Oh?
- 6:36Speaker 2: Yeah, we've had We've had several here.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Wow, I can't even imagine that.
- 6:39Speaker 2: So, I mean, we're right on the cuss Like, I'm
- 6:42Speaker 2: surprised that we haven't been pained on this one yet.
- 6:44Speaker 2: There is an active tornado warning in the south part
- 6:47Speaker 2: of Plymouth County I believe or whatever county is just
- 6:51Speaker 2: south of us. It's tracking. It's gonna just go to
- 6:54Speaker 2: the south of US, but it's tracking. So I'm just
- 6:58Speaker 2: keeping an eye on it just in case. But okay,
- 7:00Speaker 2: So what I did today, because I knew the storders
- 7:02Speaker 2: are coming, right, I did my own little prep checklist
- 7:06Speaker 2: right right. I went and filled up the gas cans
- 7:08Speaker 2: for the generator. I plugged the generator into the house, right,
- 7:12Speaker 2: I powered everything down, I powered the breaker that feeds
- 7:14Speaker 2: the generator, and I ran my house on the generator
- 7:17Speaker 2: for a little while today just to make sure everything
- 7:18Speaker 2: was working. So just to keep you know, okay, made
- 7:22Speaker 2: sure my radios were plugged in, made sure my big
- 7:25Speaker 2: DJ power bank was plugged in. Made sure that everything
- 7:29Speaker 2: where I needed it to be was accessible, the water,
- 7:32Speaker 2: you know, all that kind of stuff. So just being prepared,
- 7:34Speaker 2: right because if we had to bring the kids into
- 7:36Speaker 2: the basement in a quick fashion, I've got blankets and
- 7:39Speaker 2: pillows and all sorts of stuff down here ready to go,
- 7:41Speaker 2: so that we don't have to just scramble and it
- 7:44Speaker 2: panic and miss something, or just being prepared. Trucks full
- 7:48Speaker 2: of gas so if I need to use the chainsaw
- 7:51Speaker 2: that's ready to go. Like, I just kind of did
- 7:53Speaker 2: my due diligence. I'm being prepared for potential seventy two
- 7:57Speaker 2: hours of no power if the weather gets bad.
- 7:59Speaker 1: So, yeah, how long will the DJI power bank? And
- 8:01Speaker 1: you have like do you have the biggest power bank
- 8:04Speaker 1: that they put out?
- 8:05Speaker 2: Uh? No, So they make a two thousand. I have
- 8:08Speaker 2: the DJI one thousand, the power one thousand. We had
- 8:11Speaker 2: an extended power outage about a year ago, maybe a
- 8:15Speaker 2: little bit less than a year ago, and I ran
- 8:19Speaker 2: so I just took it up because it wasn't it
- 8:21Speaker 2: was summertime, so I didn't have to run the furnace
- 8:23Speaker 2: or anything. It ran my Wi Fi router by TV basically,
- 8:28Speaker 2: I averything plugged into the ups upstairs. Once the aps
- 8:30Speaker 2: died it it took over and two lights in the fridge.
- 8:34Speaker 2: I ran that, plugged the fridge in. I didn't have
- 8:36Speaker 2: any issues running it, and I maybe guided down to
- 8:38Speaker 2: like forty five percent right, and then you know, charged
- 8:42Speaker 2: it on the generator when we weren't using it inside,
- 8:46Speaker 2: ran the generator to run to run the fridge and
- 8:48Speaker 2: the freezer and stuff, and then charged the power bank. Also. Yeah,
- 8:52Speaker 2: but that power bank ran my fridge, no problem.
- 8:55Speaker 1: You didn't have to worry about was food.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so that would run my fridge.
- 8:59Speaker 1: And we used to get I mean, we've had bad
- 9:03Speaker 1: monsoon storms here where people should probably think of that
- 9:07Speaker 1: at some point, but I mean next week, what are
- 9:09Speaker 1: we looking at? One hundred degree temperature already going to
- 9:13Speaker 1: be hitting next week, which is a little early for that.
- 9:15Speaker 2: It got into the mid seventies here today.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Which was kind of an achievement for you guys, right.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Which is why we're seeing these storms.
- 9:21Speaker 1: And yeah, there's nothing wrong with being safe. And it's
- 9:25Speaker 1: funny because I have a little anchor from you know,
- 9:27Speaker 1: Anchor A A and Ker power Bank, and I remember
- 9:31Speaker 1: I thought to myself, this is going to be so
- 9:32Speaker 1: great a case of an emergency, and I tried to
- 9:36Speaker 1: use it because I have a one of those. It's
- 9:40Speaker 1: like a blower that blows leaves and you know, you
- 9:44Speaker 1: has a bag on it. You can inhale the leaves
- 9:46Speaker 1: as well if you want to. And it wouldn't even
- 9:49Speaker 1: power that thing. It'll charge basically my smartphone. Maybe you
- 9:53Speaker 1: run my router for a little bit. That's it. So
- 9:56Speaker 1: if I really want to have that power I have
- 9:58Speaker 1: to look at something like the DJI one thousand, yeah,
- 10:00Speaker 1: or you.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Know, an inverting generator or whatever. Because we have we
- 10:05Speaker 2: have a predator thirty five hundred from Harbor Freight, which
- 10:10Speaker 2: I have. I had an electrician come and wire it
- 10:12Speaker 2: in so I could plug in the generator to the
- 10:14Speaker 2: side of my house so that I could basically cut
- 10:18Speaker 2: off from the mains and run everything off of the
- 10:23Speaker 2: bus that my generators on, which worked out great. Like
- 10:26Speaker 2: I said, I did it today just to you know,
- 10:28Speaker 2: I just went through the workflow, went through the steps
- 10:30Speaker 2: to make sure everything was working and having a plan, right,
- 10:32Speaker 2: don't don't just expect things are going to be okay.
- 10:35Speaker 2: You have to have some sort of.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Plan so you're prepared case all right, So hope and
- 10:42Speaker 1: everything goes well. We'll find out by the end of
- 10:45Speaker 1: the show.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Well, if I go off the air unexpectedly and Andy
- 10:47Speaker 2: has to tell you why, that's what, that's why.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Great.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I thought about running everything through the DJ power bank
- 10:53Speaker 2: and just having it plug into the wall feeding it
- 10:55Speaker 2: power so that if the power did go out, I
- 10:57Speaker 2: just would have an uninterrupted power supply. But I didn't
- 11:00Speaker 2: want to wire it all up.
- 11:02Speaker 1: No, definitely not are one of the things we talked
- 11:04Speaker 1: about last week and it got really excited about and
- 11:08Speaker 1: a lot of people have commented on socials about it.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Is the MacBook Neo. Now, for those who missed it
- 11:14Speaker 1: last week, they've got a couple of videos up there
- 11:16Speaker 1: talking about our TikTok and our YouTube video. But the
- 11:19Speaker 1: MacBook Neo has been really well received because you look
- 11:24Speaker 1: at now laptop prices, you look at PC laptop prices,
- 11:28Speaker 1: and people suddenly saying, well, I always wanted to try
- 11:32Speaker 1: a Mac and you hit it because you said, if
- 11:37Speaker 1: they make a cellular laptop, meaning you could actually have
- 11:40Speaker 1: a cell connection on your laptop, you don't have to
- 11:42Speaker 1: worry about connecting to Wi Fi or whatnot, you use
- 11:45Speaker 1: the cell connection on it, that would be a winner.
- 11:48Speaker 1: What were we able to find out with that? Does
- 11:50Speaker 1: it indeed have it?
- 11:51Speaker 2: No, they actually didn't do that with this. It's using
- 11:54Speaker 2: the Apple A eighteen pro chip, so the processing is
- 11:58Speaker 2: the same as what the phone is, right, all right,
- 12:00Speaker 2: So it's it's the aat pro chip, which was originally
- 12:03Speaker 2: made for the iPhone sixteen Pro. Most people that are
- 12:06Speaker 2: buying a macmcneo could probably already hospout their phone. So
- 12:10Speaker 2: it's kind of the same in one and the same. Yeah,
- 12:14Speaker 2: but here's a couple of the key specks for the
- 12:16Speaker 2: macwickneal right, it's got the Apple A eighteen, the Apple
- 12:19Speaker 2: A eighteen pro chip. Eight gigs of memory. Now, this
- 12:23Speaker 2: is something that people are losing their minds about because
- 12:25Speaker 2: they're like, ooh, eight gigs is so twenty thirteen. Well yeah,
- 12:30Speaker 2: but it's so it's so much more optimized now for
- 12:35Speaker 2: what the apps are doing and those types of things,
- 12:38Speaker 2: that eight gigs is enough. It's enough for what this
- 12:42Speaker 2: product is serving.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Right, you can go with the two hundred and fifty
- 12:47Speaker 2: six gig storage or five to twelve thirteen inch liquid
- 12:50Speaker 2: red and a display, sixteen hours of battery life, that's
- 12:54Speaker 2: what they're saying. It weighs a little bit more than
- 12:57Speaker 2: a MacBook Air, no fan, so it's family silent operation.
- 13:01Speaker 2: The starting price is five ninety nine. The upgraded to
- 13:04Speaker 2: five twelve, I think is six ninety nine. If you
- 13:08Speaker 2: have a university ID or an education discount that you
- 13:11Speaker 2: can get it for four ninety nine, which is just
- 13:14Speaker 2: mind blowing.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Yeah, so well that's good. So, uh, I know, I
- 13:21Speaker 1: thought about it. We reached out to Apple to see
- 13:23Speaker 1: if they could send us one that we would have
- 13:25Speaker 1: had in studio on Monday since they were, you know,
- 13:28Speaker 1: coming out Tuesday. Came out Tuesday this week, and I'd
- 13:31Speaker 1: never heard back from them, like no, Yeah, I'm sure
- 13:35Speaker 1: that they were super busy and a lot of requests
- 13:37Speaker 1: for it, but uh, from what I've been reading, people
- 13:40Speaker 1: have been pretty happy with what.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:42Speaker 2: I mean I have a coworker that got that, that
- 13:45Speaker 2: went to Apple, looked at it, said I'm buying one.
- 13:48Speaker 2: He's going to do it for some light audio editing.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Uh you know he's been big on Apple for a while. Yeah,
- 13:57Speaker 2: he's he's in. He's into it all right, shining in that.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Think it's great And I'm thinking about getting one for
- 14:02Speaker 2: Kaylin for a birthday.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm thinking getting one for myself if I can.
- 14:06Speaker 1: But let me ask you this, Sean, what will be
- 14:08Speaker 1: the biggest challenge for somebody who's been ingrained in the
- 14:12Speaker 1: PC world that suddenly has got a Mac in front
- 14:15Speaker 1: of them. What is going to be the biggest thing
- 14:18Speaker 1: to overcome for many people?
- 14:19Speaker 2: I think the finder, just the actual operation of where
- 14:23Speaker 2: files are. It's a little it's actually it's an easier
- 14:26Speaker 2: platform to understand. But if you're so ingrained in the
- 14:28Speaker 2: Windows platform, I've tailored by Windows experience to look more
- 14:32Speaker 2: like mac os than really realistically, So I can't really
- 14:37Speaker 2: speak to that, but I know that my in laws
- 14:41Speaker 2: when they, you know, I bought we helped them purchase
- 14:43Speaker 2: a new laptop just before Christmas last year. Yeah, and
- 14:47Speaker 2: they said absolutely no Mac. They said, we're not We're
- 14:51Speaker 2: not in this. We're not in the technical place to
- 14:53Speaker 2: learn a new operating system. You know, They're they're used
- 14:56Speaker 2: to Windows. They have had Windows for so long. I
- 14:59Speaker 2: think honestly they could have done it, yeah and.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Move to Mac. But jumping in and getting your feet
- 15:06Speaker 1: what with a brand new operating system, could be really daunting.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I mean it can't.
- 15:10Speaker 2: I mean I think maybe the you know, the application
- 15:14Speaker 2: windows are a little different. The look and feel is different.
- 15:18Speaker 2: The axes to close applications are on the left side
- 15:22Speaker 2: of the windows instead of the right side of the window.
- 15:24Speaker 2: You know, there's some weird, little little nuances and niche
- 15:27Speaker 2: things that come up.
- 15:28Speaker 1: But you want to do that though with other programs,
- 15:31Speaker 1: I mean, like Premiere Pro. I want to cut a scene,
- 15:35Speaker 1: you know, and I want to just delete a scene.
- 15:38Speaker 1: I know, I can hit the delete key. You can't
- 15:41Speaker 1: do that with Da Vinci. Da Vinci it's the backspace key.
- 15:45Speaker 1: So it's little things like that. You have, you you
- 15:49Speaker 1: pick up and you learn along the way.
- 15:51Speaker 2: It's also like a lot of applications for Mac are
- 15:54Speaker 2: built around mobile platforms. So the MacBooks, they're not built,
- 16:00Speaker 2: they're not the keyboard shortcuts aren't designed for full keyboard setups.
- 16:05Speaker 2: You're you're I'm seeing more keyboard layout designs built for
- 16:08Speaker 2: a what are they It's called an eighty percent keyboard
- 16:12Speaker 2: where you know, okay, instead of there's no delete key
- 16:15Speaker 2: and I have hit function backspace, it's all the function
- 16:17Speaker 2: key and do certain things. So yeah, you know, I'm
- 16:20Speaker 2: playing around that with a macquip pro versus a Mac
- 16:23Speaker 2: Studio versus a Macvinnie or whatever vice versa, depending on
- 16:27Speaker 2: which which platform you're using. For Mac, I think it's
- 16:29Speaker 2: a really easy platform to get into. Once you do it,
- 16:32Speaker 2: nobody likes to change, right, Nobody likes to get to
- 16:36Speaker 2: spend two decades on a Windows platform that has looked
- 16:39Speaker 2: relatively similar and they get dropped into a new ecosystem, right, right.
- 16:43Speaker 1: But I would say not just Windows itself, but some
- 16:46Speaker 1: of the apps that we use within Windows, right, like
- 16:49Speaker 1: Office completely changed.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Yeah. Look, yeah, so I don't think it's impossible for
- 16:55Speaker 2: people to change. I think people are just begrudgingly don't
- 16:58Speaker 2: want to change. And I mean, if Justin were here,
- 17:03Speaker 2: he would just be poo pooing all over this whole idea. Anyways,
- 17:06Speaker 2: of course, I think he would actually applaud Apple for
- 17:10Speaker 2: releasing something hundred thousand dollars.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:13Speaker 2: I think they hit it right on the price point,
- 17:15Speaker 2: and I think it was the right time for them
- 17:17Speaker 2: to do.
- 17:17Speaker 1: It, right.
- 17:19Speaker 2: I think it's going to dry to drive a little
- 17:23Speaker 2: bit more of the market share towards Apple with the
- 17:25Speaker 2: steam Machine coming out potentially, right, I think people are
- 17:29Speaker 2: still going to buy the Steam Machine. I think this
- 17:32Speaker 2: is Apple's kind of like calling everybody out saying, look,
- 17:37Speaker 2: we can release products for a reasonable price that do stuff, yeah,
- 17:43Speaker 2: and not overcharge or try and drive out the price.
- 17:47Speaker 2: And you know, Apples touting their own Silicon Apples touting, hey,
- 17:50Speaker 2: look we're doing it. You guys can too. And I
- 17:54Speaker 2: think hopefully we'll see a trend in the right direction.
- 17:56Speaker 1: One of the things that I liked about it and
- 17:59Speaker 1: let's face it, every time you turn around, it's something
- 18:02Speaker 1: with Ai and Sean, I noticed, like you left Facebook?
- 18:10Speaker 1: But how long ago? Three years? Four years?
- 18:12Speaker 2: Oh, it's twenty nineteen. Easy, Yeah, it's been it's been
- 18:15Speaker 2: several years now. Granted with having Facebook Messenger, I still
- 18:20Speaker 2: technically have a Facebook account, right And when I get
- 18:23Speaker 2: logged out of Facebook Messenger and I log back into
- 18:26Speaker 2: just Facebook Messenger and also reactivates my Facebook account. I
- 18:31Speaker 2: don't know if you can hear my weather radio, but
- 18:32Speaker 2: it's going often, so I'm gonna have to step away
- 18:34Speaker 2: for two seconds so I can see what's going on.
- 18:36Speaker 2: So I'll step away for a second.
- 18:37Speaker 1: All right, Well, Sean's gonna step away, and hopefully it's
- 18:40Speaker 1: nothing too serious. But one of the things though about
- 18:44Speaker 1: Facebook that I wanted to mention is if you scroll
- 18:47Speaker 1: on Facebook, and I'm wondering if this is making more
- 18:50Speaker 1: people just to the point where they're just upset with it,
- 18:55Speaker 1: it's nothing but AI in the feeds. I mean, you
- 18:59Speaker 1: could tell you look at the feeds, Shan, and you
- 19:02Speaker 1: could tell that that's Ai or that's Ai. Uh, And
- 19:08Speaker 1: they're not being really one hundred percent forward on it,
- 19:11Speaker 1: saying you know, this is AI generated. You look at it,
- 19:15Speaker 1: you go, okay, yeah, that's AI. Even just photos of celebrities.
- 19:19Speaker 1: I've seen it on Facebook pages, just so many. At
- 19:22Speaker 1: a point, I think it's causing a burnout for people
- 19:25Speaker 1: to say, I hate this AI stuff.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I've been really anti AI for a long time.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Except oh my god, Andy, I'm sorry. It was my FO.
- 19:34Speaker 2: You sent me so SOO, which is a music generation platform.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Yeah, you sent.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Us a clip and I couldn't believe how awesome, how
- 19:42Speaker 2: good it was. Right. I was like, this is a
- 19:44Speaker 2: great little country jam that you had. It was catered
- 19:47Speaker 2: to us, And so I went on to soon know,
- 19:51Speaker 2: and I've had this little project I've had in the
- 19:53Speaker 2: back of my mind for a long time about you
- 19:55Speaker 2: know those really classic nineties commercials.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, are you getting at the university.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Just pushed a tornado warning alert? So take me back
- 20:08Speaker 2: to the nineties, all right, and you have like these
- 20:11Speaker 2: ten pack CDs, like ten packs of greatest country hits.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah right, And it's.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Like it's just like this cascading information of you know,
- 20:23Speaker 2: all these songs and all these artists and you know,
- 20:25Speaker 2: ten top ten top greatest love song hits, whatever, and
- 20:30Speaker 2: as I've had this idea of making a parody some
- 20:32Speaker 2: parody songs based on World of Warcraft and some stuff
- 20:36Speaker 2: just for fun. Wait, I was up until three in
- 20:41Speaker 2: the morning. I spent like seven hours just creating, so
- 20:46Speaker 2: just creating songs. I generated probably forty songs and they
- 20:52Speaker 2: are so good. They are so good, and I've been
- 20:55Speaker 2: sharing them with people because I could tailor them with
- 20:59Speaker 2: the lyrics. I was writing some of my own lyrics.
- 21:01Speaker 2: I've been this is a project I've been working at
- 21:03Speaker 2: for a long time. Right, I didn't want to I
- 21:04Speaker 2: don't want to use AI for it, but I was
- 21:07Speaker 2: interested to see what AI could do.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Yeah, And I.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Don't think people, unless artists and people spend a lot
- 21:16Speaker 2: of time and effort on it, I don't think they're
- 21:18Speaker 2: going to do it better than the AI can. And
- 21:21Speaker 2: in the way that you want to do it, and
- 21:24Speaker 2: you can cater it to that, you can change the lyrics,
- 21:27Speaker 2: you can do I don't know, it's it's so good.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I'll share a couple with you that I created and
- 21:34Speaker 2: they're just it's really good. I think I shared them
- 21:37Speaker 2: with some of my friends and they think they're good.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Yeah. I hate how easy it was we have seen
- 21:43Speaker 1: so much slop unless the slop is a real thing.
- 21:47Speaker 1: That's when somebody generates something and throws it out there.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Look what I did with the music generation done from Suno.
- 21:54Speaker 1: It's a different experience because you can personalize it. You
- 21:58Speaker 1: can add alert. I did a for a couple of
- 22:01Speaker 1: friends of mine. I said, tell me what when you met,
- 22:04Speaker 1: where did you meet, what's your anniversary? How many years
- 22:07Speaker 1: you been married? And I was able to create a song.
- 22:10Speaker 1: She was able to share it with her husband and
- 22:12Speaker 1: they loved it. My daughter writes songs destiny, and I
- 22:15Speaker 1: told her send me one of your she writes poems.
- 22:18Speaker 1: It saen me one of your poems. I'm going to
- 22:20Speaker 1: do the same thing with it. It is really a
- 22:22Speaker 1: fun experience and you can share it.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I think it's a fun experience. I
- 22:27Speaker 2: think it's fun. I don't know. I wouldn't want to
- 22:30Speaker 2: take this and try making my full time. I wouldn't
- 22:32Speaker 2: want to create content that I'm going to make money on.
- 22:35Speaker 2: I would I would feel disserviced to people that actually
- 22:38Speaker 2: make music for money.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Good point, I would.
- 22:41Speaker 2: I would prefer to do where Hey, maybe I come
- 22:44Speaker 2: up with a style and the lyrics that I like
- 22:47Speaker 2: using AI and then take those ideas and present them
- 22:51Speaker 2: to somebody and say, hey, this is a song that
- 22:55Speaker 2: I like. Here's an idea. Let's work together and make
- 22:58Speaker 2: it a real artist, ill people, real music based on
- 23:02Speaker 2: some ideas.
- 23:03Speaker 1: All Right, we're gonna take a quick break. We come back.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Sean's gonna check out the weather situation there. We'll be
- 23:08Speaker 1: back with more of tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor.
- 23:10Speaker 2: I'm trying to wear look at my map on weatherwise
- 23:13Speaker 2: and see if I'm blown away or not. Find us
- 23:15Speaker 2: something we have at tech talk radio dot com.
- 23:17Speaker 1: We'll be back and now fact to tech talk radio.
- 23:21Speaker 1: All right, it's some good news, dudes. Seawan is back,
- 23:25Speaker 1: still standing still.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Guys on the hand, the guys on the Ham radio
- 23:28Speaker 2: we're talking about how Wendy it was down by them,
- 23:30Speaker 2: and they're they're quite a bit south of.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Me, but you're he's just keeping an eye on that, keeping.
- 23:35Speaker 2: An eye on it. It's it's coming, but it's not
- 23:37Speaker 2: gonna be as on top of us. We thought, well
- 23:41Speaker 2: maybe not.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Sean a couple of the Sono songs that he created
- 23:46Speaker 1: as well with me, So that was that was pretty cool.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Different man.
- 23:50Speaker 2: This stuff is so cool. Like I wanted to hate it,
- 23:54Speaker 2: like I want to hate AI, I really do, but
- 23:57Speaker 2: this was fun and I think it helped. I'm not
- 24:01Speaker 2: I'm a musical person. I grew up playing the trumpet,
- 24:03Speaker 2: I grew up playing classical music. But I'm not a lyricist, right,
- 24:07Speaker 2: I don't. I can't come up with ideas to write songs.
- 24:10Speaker 2: I can't come up with the ideas for songs, Like
- 24:11Speaker 2: that's just not me. Yeah, And I feel like, in
- 24:15Speaker 2: the case of doing a parody, I feel like I
- 24:19Speaker 2: could use AI to generate a couple ideas to help
- 24:22Speaker 2: me get some lyrics, maybe jot down what I have
- 24:24Speaker 2: and expand on it. And that's what I did with
- 24:25Speaker 2: these tuno songs, and it generated some really cool stuff.
- 24:29Speaker 2: I just don't know how if I submitted these to
- 24:32Speaker 2: the community, how the community would react, because I know
- 24:35Speaker 2: the communities for games and video games and stuff are
- 24:38Speaker 2: very anti AI, and the companies that are providing these
- 24:41Speaker 2: games are claimed to be anti AI, and the try
- 24:45Speaker 2: and sneak AI in and then when they get caught,
- 24:47Speaker 2: they say, oh sorry, Yeah.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I think I think with anything with AI now, there
- 24:52Speaker 1: has to be an unwritten rule that there was a
- 24:56Speaker 1: generation of AI in this.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Yes, I if I I used this in any format
- 25:03Speaker 2: that could potentially make me money or in a competition
- 25:05Speaker 2: or something, I'm gonna say this is generated. I'm gonna
- 25:08Speaker 2: be one hundred transparent. I've already reached out to a
- 25:11Speaker 2: couple of people to help get help with on this
- 25:13Speaker 2: project that I'm working on that are real Issians that
- 25:16Speaker 2: have generated real content on their own, and I've told them, look,
- 25:20Speaker 2: I've already to be completely honest, like I've already started
- 25:23Speaker 2: generating idea is an AI, and so you know, like
- 25:27Speaker 2: if you don't want to work with you, that's great.
- 25:28Speaker 2: But I just want to be open and honest about
- 25:31Speaker 2: using AI. And I think that's the ethical right thing
- 25:33Speaker 2: to do. And I think that's important to be transparent
- 25:37Speaker 2: about it and not just say I created this. No,
- 25:41Speaker 2: I used a tool to help me create, and I
- 25:43Speaker 2: used it, used ideas and compounded on what AI offered
- 25:47Speaker 2: me and came up with.
- 25:48Speaker 1: A result exactly. It's a very good point. We talked
- 25:52Speaker 1: about the uh the Neo from MacBook. I got a
- 25:56Speaker 1: chance this week to take a look at this. This
- 25:58Speaker 1: is the Asus Pro art p X thirteen Go Pro Edition. Now, Sean, you,
- 26:06Speaker 1: being a lover of the go Pro, I thought of
- 26:09Speaker 1: you right away, thinking, oh my gosh, you would probably
- 26:12Speaker 1: really love this. Now, the reason they got together with
- 26:16Speaker 1: GoPro is they wanted to have a laptop that was
- 26:21Speaker 1: small enough to carry thirteen point three inches bright bright
- 26:27Speaker 1: oled screen, powerful, one hundred and twenty eight gigabytes of
- 26:33Speaker 1: memory in it, one terabyte that is in it, and
- 26:36Speaker 1: it also has a slot for putting your SD card
- 26:40Speaker 1: out of your you know, out of your go Pro,
- 26:43Speaker 1: which now they do not have a GoPro that does
- 26:45Speaker 1: three sixty, right.
- 26:47Speaker 2: They've had a yeah the Max.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Yeah, and you can edit in three sixty on this
- 26:53Speaker 1: Asus Pro Pro art.
- 26:55Speaker 2: I mean, I really, I really think this was was.
- 26:57Speaker 2: I saw this and when you brought it up, I
- 26:59Speaker 2: was like, oh, hey, this is great. You got to
- 27:01Speaker 2: play with it. I had seen it an article written
- 27:03Speaker 2: about it, and I think this is a stab at
- 27:06Speaker 2: trying to claw back as much of the three sixty
- 27:10Speaker 2: content market that into three sixty has taken from GoPro.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and I think this is a great way
- 27:20Speaker 2: to do it because it allows you to do that
- 27:23Speaker 2: editing on the go with the three sixty, which is
- 27:27Speaker 2: always demanded quite a bit of horsepower.
- 27:31Speaker 1: One of things that I thought, and I know you
- 27:34Speaker 1: would like as a video editor is a jog wheel
- 27:37Speaker 1: on the track pad. And how that jog wheel works
- 27:41Speaker 1: is basically you can enable it and then if you're
- 27:45Speaker 1: editing video, one of the things you like to do
- 27:47Speaker 1: with video is or even audio is move across the timeline.
- 27:53Speaker 1: And now you could do it by enabling it and
- 27:56Speaker 1: just scrolled back and forth so that you could get
- 28:00Speaker 1: that get to the right scene and do that. And
- 28:04Speaker 1: that makes it completely easy on This comes with a
- 28:08Speaker 1: two hundred watch charger, whereas I think my Lenovo has
- 28:12Speaker 1: a ninety watch charger, so you and you get a
- 28:15Speaker 1: lot of power out of it, a lot of use.
- 28:18Speaker 1: It has the a md rizing AI three ninety five
- 28:22Speaker 1: processor in it, so it's one of the top processors
- 28:25Speaker 1: that is out there. It has its own neural network,
- 28:29Speaker 1: so you don't have to go out into the cloud
- 28:31Speaker 1: to do any AI processing. It could do it all
- 28:34Speaker 1: on board the Asis. It's it's pretty great. Comes with
- 28:40Speaker 1: all the ports you need and everything. But here's one
- 28:42Speaker 1: of the things I didn't get it. I showed this
- 28:44Speaker 1: on TV, but I didn't get a show the fact
- 28:47Speaker 1: that it comes with and this is what's great. It
- 28:50Speaker 1: comes with this a hard case, so you could store
- 28:54Speaker 1: it in a hard case and carry it around with you,
- 28:57Speaker 1: which is great, so you you know, open up the
- 29:00Speaker 1: case if you're on a road trip or something you
- 29:02Speaker 1: want to put it away somewhere safe, You've got it
- 29:04Speaker 1: in there. And it comes also not only in a
- 29:08Speaker 1: hard case. And if you watch our video we're showing
- 29:10Speaker 1: this on the video or check out our blog, you'll
- 29:12Speaker 1: be able to see that there comes with a slim
- 29:16Speaker 1: link case that you could carry with you and put
- 29:19Speaker 1: everything that you need in there. They actually made this
- 29:21Speaker 1: area specifically for Go pro cameras, so if you've got
- 29:24Speaker 1: Go pro cameras, take your pro Art PX thirteen with
- 29:28Speaker 1: you and it comes shn with the pen three point
- 29:32Speaker 1: zero charger and the pen three point oh, which I
- 29:37Speaker 1: still haven't figured out how to use yet.
- 29:40Speaker 2: But I mean, you're not a digital artist, like I
- 29:42Speaker 2: feel like people that are using those pens for digital
- 29:45Speaker 2: art and stuff like that are WAKEM tablets and all
- 29:48Speaker 2: that stuff, or that's kind of a niche thing for
- 29:51Speaker 2: those those those markets.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Actually got a brand new tablet out so I'm gonna
- 29:54Speaker 1: see if we can get some info on that. Here's
- 29:56Speaker 1: the other thing I didn't show, but yeah, you got
- 29:58Speaker 1: the leak keyboard. But also it's a two in one.
- 30:01Speaker 2: I was gonna ask you, and I saw the hinges
- 30:04Speaker 2: and I was like, there's no way, and then you
- 30:05Speaker 2: just folded it over like that. I was like, oh god,
- 30:06Speaker 2: it's gonna break this, Seffy. I thought you looked you
- 30:09Speaker 2: were going to break the screed.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Let me break it before I set it back to Asus.
- 30:13Speaker 1: But two in one so you can now use it
- 30:15Speaker 1: as a tablet. Of course, you know it's a touch
- 30:19Speaker 1: the touch enabled the whole bit. It's got some story
- 30:22Speaker 1: cube which is on here. It also has the ability
- 30:25Speaker 1: to track photos, track you know, everything, all your media
- 30:30Speaker 1: in here and again give you the ability to do
- 30:32Speaker 1: some great work on it.
- 30:33Speaker 2: No, that's really cool. And I was gonna, like I said,
- 30:36Speaker 2: I had seen it, and then when you popped it
- 30:38Speaker 2: up in our preview, I was like, oh man, suggest
- 30:42Speaker 2: never it never send me anything cool? Yeah, that's this
- 30:45Speaker 2: is the bummer.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Three grand wow. But you don't want Sean. Here's the thing.
- 30:51Speaker 1: Memory isn't going down And I pulled it up just
- 30:55Speaker 1: to see like sixty four gigabyte chip of five right now,
- 31:01Speaker 1: it's about six hundred, six hundred and fifty bucks. Yeah,
- 31:04Speaker 1: I mean, so you know, if you're building a computer,
- 31:08Speaker 1: this is one you can carry with you. You know,
- 31:10Speaker 1: you don't you're not tied to your desktop. It also
- 31:12Speaker 1: does this screen mirroring built in, so using Bluetooth you
- 31:17Speaker 1: can connect to it a screen. So you've got a
- 31:19Speaker 1: screen that is a Bluetooth enable to you know, buy
- 31:21Speaker 1: a Bluetooth adapter, you could. You don't have to worry.
- 31:24Speaker 1: You just pop into your desk, open it up, go
- 31:27Speaker 1: and it's projected onto the big screen there. But that
- 31:29Speaker 1: bright oled screen which is I believe three K. That's fine.
- 31:34Speaker 1: You know that works. That works pretty good.
- 31:36Speaker 2: No, it looks cool. And if I did, if I
- 31:39Speaker 2: was still into the go pro world, like yeah, I
- 31:42Speaker 2: got out of that. I mean I was super into
- 31:46Speaker 2: it back in.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Yeah, you were doing a lot of GoPro stuff, haven't I.
- 31:48Speaker 2: So I was very heavily into go Pro early two
- 31:52Speaker 2: thousand and eight, well into the two thousand's, the twenty twelves,
- 31:57Speaker 2: like probably all the way I up to like twenty fifteen,
- 31:59Speaker 2: twenty sixteen, and I kept up like I was like, oh,
- 32:02Speaker 2: I gotta have the Go Pro Hero, the Goper Hero too,
- 32:04Speaker 2: go for here black right, And then I think I
- 32:06Speaker 2: ended up like, at what point they just started making
- 32:09Speaker 2: just the Go Pro Hero HD, which just does ten
- 32:13Speaker 2: EIGHTP and a couple of other features. I think that's
- 32:16Speaker 2: the last one I bought. I bought four Silver plus
- 32:22Speaker 2: because they went they went through a weird nomenclature with
- 32:25Speaker 2: the four silver the sor the four black the four
- 32:28Speaker 2: black plus that Now it's.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Just I still have my Hero Too, which is great.
- 32:34Speaker 1: That's where you're using for the cast, right, this is
- 32:37Speaker 1: a Hero three plus here were three all right, Yeah,
- 32:40Speaker 1: I still have I still have.
- 32:41Speaker 2: If I go dig up my box, I've got the
- 32:44Speaker 2: original one that I have was is called the go
- 32:48Speaker 2: the Go Pro. It wasn't even a girl por HD.
- 32:52Speaker 2: It shot four eighty yeah, and it took four triple
- 32:56Speaker 2: A batteries and a full sized st card.
- 32:59Speaker 1: Wow.
- 33:00Speaker 2: And then they had the motor They called it the
- 33:02Speaker 2: Motorsports HD because everybody was putting them on cars. That's
- 33:07Speaker 2: what I started using it for when I worked at
- 33:09Speaker 2: ARCA was it was put we put them in the
- 33:13Speaker 2: cars when they were practice or whatever and filmed in
- 33:16Speaker 2: car stuff, and then it was the go Pro too,
- 33:19Speaker 2: and then the GoPro to HD and the go Pro here,
- 33:21Speaker 2: and then it was off to the running and they
- 33:23Speaker 2: were they were the leader for a long time. And
- 33:27Speaker 2: man were they on top of it. And I think
- 33:31Speaker 2: they missed a big one. They had a big flop
- 33:36Speaker 2: with their drone. Yeah. I wholeheartedly believe that if they
- 33:41Speaker 2: didn't go and try and do their own and went
- 33:44Speaker 2: with a manufacturer that had already produced in manufactured drones
- 33:47Speaker 2: that had good battery life and good stability and they said,
- 33:51Speaker 2: let's just put a camera into this drone and make
- 33:53Speaker 2: it good, they would have killed in that market.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Yeah. You see a lot of the other like uh
- 34:00Speaker 1: into three sixty now with their tie in with anti gravity.
- 34:04Speaker 1: You see a lot of that stuff now. And it's like,
- 34:07Speaker 1: that's why I feel like GoPro missed the mark on it.
- 34:09Speaker 2: And but I mean they didn't. They didn't miss the market.
- 34:12Speaker 2: They created a drone, but they had such bad it
- 34:16Speaker 2: was such a bad product that I mean literally almost
- 34:21Speaker 2: every single user that flew it had a battery failure
- 34:23Speaker 2: in the fell out of the sky.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Were they around before DJI, Yeah, they were, weren't they, Yeah.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Twenty thirty, I think twenty twelve, I think, yeah, I'm
- 34:32Speaker 2: curious now. Wow, But like Corey Nisat or whatever his
- 34:36Speaker 2: name is, the YouTuber he reviewed it originally, like way
- 34:40Speaker 2: back when he was even pre like anything.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I think if they would have got called the Karma.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Yeah it was Karma.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Yeah, it's funny.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Yeah, But I think when that happened, I was very
- 34:51Speaker 2: big into the drone market, right, I was working at Fox.
- 34:54Speaker 2: I was the drone guy. I was paying attention to
- 34:56Speaker 2: all that stuff. And I think if they because they
- 35:01Speaker 2: had partnered with three D Robotics to put amount on
- 35:04Speaker 2: the three D Robotics drones.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I think if.
- 35:07Speaker 2: They would have just acquired three D Robotics, we would
- 35:10Speaker 2: have way more drones, way more go pro stuff flying.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:15Speaker 2: But I think they dodged a bullet. I think they
- 35:18Speaker 2: shot themselves in the foot by trying to do their.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Own all Right, we got to take another quick break
- 35:21Speaker 1: standing by, We're going to be talking with Sean Dadashi,
- 35:25Speaker 1: who is co founder of Rosebud. Rosebud is an AI
- 35:29Speaker 1: powered journaling app that has about seventy five hundred paying users.
- 35:34Speaker 1: They've got a free version for you to check it
- 35:36Speaker 1: out journaling, what is it good for? How can it
- 35:39Speaker 1: benefit your life. We'll talk more about that when we
- 35:42Speaker 1: come back with tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm
- 35:45Speaker 1: Shonda Weird.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Send us an X at tech talk Radio.
- 35:48Speaker 3: We'll be right back now back to tech talk Radio.
- 35:54Speaker 1: We have seen so many ways that AI can help
- 35:58Speaker 1: people and help out in so many different ways, whether
- 36:02Speaker 1: it's for business or you know, even personal or taking
- 36:06Speaker 1: your photographs and adjusting them as we've done with photos
- 36:09Speaker 1: in the past and we've shown you on the blog
- 36:12Speaker 1: at tech talk Radio. But there's also ways that can
- 36:15Speaker 1: help you appear in the mind and kind of get
- 36:19Speaker 1: that flow out. And for many years I've talked to
- 36:21Speaker 1: people who have said I want a journal, and they've
- 36:24Speaker 1: bought the books and everything, but probably just getting the
- 36:27Speaker 1: pen to the paper has been one of the biggest challenges.
- 36:30Speaker 1: And with technology, you know, you would think maybe it'd
- 36:33Speaker 1: be a little easier, but people still have that hold back.
- 36:36Speaker 1: There is an app that is changing all of that,
- 36:39Speaker 1: and it's called Rosebud Rosebud, Rosebud Dot app. That's the website.
- 36:44Speaker 1: You can get the app available on Google Play or
- 36:47Speaker 1: even your iOS. Devices, but I wanted to find a
- 36:50Speaker 1: little bit a bit more about what Rosebud is all about.
- 36:54Speaker 1: And we have one of the co founders with us,
- 36:56Speaker 1: Sean Tadashi, is with us on the line. Sean, it's
- 36:58Speaker 1: great to talk to you.
- 37:00Speaker 3: Great to talk to you as well.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Thanks for having me tell us about Rosebud. You know
- 37:05Speaker 1: we think of Rosebud of course. You know, I was
- 37:07Speaker 1: a film student, so I think about Citizen Kane. How
- 37:11Speaker 1: did this idea come about?
- 37:14Speaker 3: Yeah, so this idea came about through my own personal
- 37:18Speaker 3: experience with journaling. I had actually started therapy at the time,
- 37:22Speaker 3: and for a lot of folks who start therapy, journaling
- 37:25Speaker 3: is a recommended activity to do in between sessions. And
- 37:30Speaker 3: you know, I just found journaling to be difficult, right.
- 37:35Speaker 3: You stare at the blank page, and if you're like me,
- 37:40Speaker 3: you tend to overthink and ruminate. And so while journaling
- 37:43Speaker 3: can be helpful, so I would just be going down
- 37:46Speaker 3: these unhelpful thought spirals right right. And so as I
- 37:52Speaker 3: was journaling, I was realizing, oh, you know, it would
- 37:55Speaker 3: be nice if there was something here that could help
- 37:58Speaker 3: me catch myself going down these unhelpful paths point me
- 38:02Speaker 3: in a better direction, ask thoughtful questions, right, kind of
- 38:06Speaker 3: help me extend the work that I was doing in
- 38:09Speaker 3: therapy throughout the week. And that was the sort of
- 38:13Speaker 3: like the seed for Rosebud.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it's great because the journaling process, Yes, you're writing
- 38:19Speaker 1: and you're putting that info in there, and it's kind
- 38:22Speaker 1: of like you know, Facebook memories. People tend to, you know,
- 38:25Speaker 1: they get on there and every day they start off
- 38:27Speaker 1: by looking at a memory what were they doing five
- 38:29Speaker 1: years ago, ten years ago. I tend to do that
- 38:32Speaker 1: as well, and that can kind of help you plan
- 38:34Speaker 1: your day out. But the thing is is if you're
- 38:38Speaker 1: just you're writing your journal, which is very important still,
- 38:41Speaker 1: but you're writing it and then you go back and
- 38:43Speaker 1: you read it, you're not getting any of the extra
- 38:46Speaker 1: input maybe that I don't want to say a professional,
- 38:50Speaker 1: but they can help guide you into maybe what's going
- 38:52Speaker 1: to be next. Getting onto the Rosebud app it's neat
- 38:56Speaker 1: because you could start off with you know something in
- 38:58Speaker 1: the morning, kind of wrap up in the evening. But
- 39:01Speaker 1: you also get help with the AI. Where was that idea?
- 39:05Speaker 1: Was that what the missing link was? When you were
- 39:08Speaker 1: journaling that you said that would have been a nice
- 39:10Speaker 1: a nice thing to have.
- 39:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that the challenge that a lot of
- 39:15Speaker 3: people have with journaling is just you don't know where
- 39:18Speaker 3: when to start, You don't know when to end, you
- 39:20Speaker 3: don't know where to go right, you're just sitting there
- 39:22Speaker 3: with the blank page. Right, Rosebud makes the process very
- 39:26Speaker 3: very easy. You come in, there's a simple question that
- 39:30Speaker 3: you can answer, you can put in one sentence, three sentences,
- 39:33Speaker 3: write a paragraph. You can even talk to it. So
- 39:35Speaker 3: there's voice transcription feature and it's really really great. You
- 39:41Speaker 3: know a lot of people myself included, to use it
- 39:43Speaker 3: in the morning, going on walks or while driving in
- 39:46Speaker 3: the car. Right, and no matter how much you put
- 39:50Speaker 3: in it, Rosebud will analyze what you've written and ask
- 39:55Speaker 3: a very very thoughtful follow up question. So it's like
- 39:58Speaker 3: talking with somebody who's just an excellent listener and asks
- 40:03Speaker 3: the right question at the right time. And it's getting
- 40:07Speaker 3: to learn about you and know about you over times.
- 40:09Speaker 3: So when you come in the next day and you're like, oh,
- 40:12Speaker 3: you know that that thing with my whatever my partner,
- 40:16Speaker 3: you know, didn't go as well, it's going to have
- 40:18Speaker 3: context on that and it's going to help you dig
- 40:21Speaker 3: deeper and it will help you see patterns that you may
- 40:24Speaker 3: not have seen. So it really is a powerful tool
- 40:27Speaker 3: for not just getting into journaling, but for also understanding
- 40:31Speaker 3: yourself better, which you know is the point for.
- 40:35Speaker 1: For those that maybe are listening to something I've really
- 40:37Speaker 1: wanted to always do this. There's also you know, AI
- 40:41Speaker 1: is here. Let's let's face it. But people tend to wonder, Okay,
- 40:45Speaker 1: what about the privacy concerns of this, John, You know,
- 40:49Speaker 1: they think I'm putting my thoughts, I'm putting my you know,
- 40:51Speaker 1: my emotions into my rosebud app. What are the concerns,
- 40:57Speaker 1: how are the how can you make people feel a
- 40:58Speaker 1: little safer when it comes.
- 40:59Speaker 3: To that, definitely, and it's obviously a very important concern.
- 41:04Speaker 3: I journal all of my darkest thoughts into Rosebud as well.
- 41:07Speaker 3: So it's and right, it's everything is encrypted in transit
- 41:15Speaker 3: at rest. We use bank grade encryption. We're aligned with hipopractices.
- 41:21Speaker 3: We do take privacy very very seriously given the nature
- 41:24Speaker 3: of what we're doing. And yeah, it's it's your entries
- 41:29Speaker 3: are secure. Nobody sees them but you. They're only pulled
- 41:31Speaker 3: up when you are journaling on your phone.
- 41:34Speaker 1: Now, when it comes to journaling. I know that I've
- 41:38Speaker 1: been doing some reading on it. I knew we were
- 41:39Speaker 1: going to talk to you, and I was I was
- 41:41Speaker 1: really interested. I went ahead and I got the app,
- 41:43Speaker 1: and and again I've been pretty like pretty happy with it.
- 41:47Speaker 1: The three three three method. We've heard about that also,
- 41:51Speaker 1: people in journals tend to digital journals like to say
- 41:55Speaker 1: photos with that. Can we do that with the Rosebud app? Yeah?
- 41:59Speaker 3: Yeah, Rosebud you can add photos. The AI will have
- 42:02Speaker 3: context on those photos, and you'll see those photos in
- 42:05Speaker 3: your history as you're scanning your journal as well.
- 42:08Speaker 1: I noticed that the reviews have been really good as well.
- 42:11Speaker 1: In people that have been using the platform, A large
- 42:15Speaker 1: number of those people have said they've seen like improvement
- 42:19Speaker 1: within thirty days, and that improvement is really just self
- 42:22Speaker 1: reflection and maybe getting them to really get off what
- 42:27Speaker 1: they've been holding back from and moving forward. The journal
- 42:31Speaker 1: team seems to do that.
- 42:33Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a lot of research that shows that just
- 42:36Speaker 3: literally expressing what is what we're holding on to, right,
- 42:40Speaker 3: what's on our minds, what's you know, in our emotions, right,
- 42:44Speaker 3: just getting it out. It doesn't even matter what happens
- 42:47Speaker 3: with it, but just getting it out leads to improvements
- 42:51Speaker 3: to health right and overall well being. And that's exactly
- 42:55Speaker 3: what Rosebud is designed to do, is just to help
- 42:57Speaker 3: you get it out and do it in a pctive way.
- 43:01Speaker 1: This is great. Now, how does one begin this journey
- 43:05Speaker 1: with Rosebud? And I know that you have different tiers.
- 43:08Speaker 1: You also have a free level that somebody could get into.
- 43:11Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so it's important for us that you know,
- 43:14Speaker 3: this process is accessible for folks. So we do have
- 43:19Speaker 3: a free tier and and we also have a Bloom
- 43:23Speaker 3: tier which has the features that require more you know,
- 43:28Speaker 3: intelligence analysis AI, right, like our memory functionality. We have
- 43:33Speaker 3: these weekly reports that we provide that summarize your week,
- 43:37Speaker 3: provide you with you know, your wins in the week
- 43:40Speaker 3: and things you know, different things it noticed throughout the
- 43:43Speaker 3: week for you. You can ask questions across your entire
- 43:47Speaker 3: journal history, which is a really cool feature. So people
- 43:52Speaker 3: like asking like, you know, what drained my energy this week?
- 43:55Speaker 3: Or what books would you recommend for me based off
- 43:58Speaker 3: of everything that I've written about. So there's these cool
- 44:02Speaker 3: you know, things that you can ask and those features
- 44:05Speaker 3: are behind what we call Rosebud Bloom, which is twelve
- 44:08Speaker 3: ninety nine a month or one hundred and eight dollars
- 44:10Speaker 3: per year, and you can get started with Rosebud. We're
- 44:15Speaker 3: on both the App Store and Google Play. And you
- 44:18Speaker 3: can also use this on your computer as well at
- 44:21Speaker 3: rosebud dot app.
- 44:23Speaker 1: I so and all that information. So if you're somebody
- 44:26Speaker 1: like me, you know, you get the app, you're on
- 44:29Speaker 1: your smartphone, you can actually take go to your PC
- 44:33Speaker 1: and it's gonna be that same info when you log
- 44:35Speaker 1: in exactly.
- 44:36Speaker 3: It goes in between phone and desktop. You can use
- 44:40Speaker 3: it wherever. You can use it on however many phones
- 44:43Speaker 3: you want. You can use it on your iPad. Some
- 44:45Speaker 3: people like to write with their pen on their ipad'
- 44:48Speaker 3: that's you know, if you like that felt sense of
- 44:51Speaker 3: you know, I want to write with my hands. It's
- 44:53Speaker 3: not gonna be pen and paper, but you'll get that
- 44:55Speaker 3: kind of sense on your iPad if you have one.
- 44:58Speaker 1: I remember years ago, Sean, I bought some journaling books
- 45:01Speaker 1: and I thought, hey, I'm going to get started in
- 45:03Speaker 1: this right and my penmanship is awful. I should have
- 45:07Speaker 1: been a doctor. Really, seriously, it just looks looks so bad.
- 45:10Speaker 1: But this gives you the ability. And again, if somebody
- 45:13Speaker 1: doesn't want to type. They can use the voice feature
- 45:17Speaker 1: on their smartphone. But also with this with bloom, they
- 45:20Speaker 1: could actually hit audio and it will record their voice
- 45:24Speaker 1: and transcribe that and then interact with it like like
- 45:27Speaker 1: it's been nothing, I mean.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Yeah, and it'll also it can also speak its responses
- 45:33Speaker 3: and questions back to you as well, So you can
- 45:36Speaker 3: actually do this and you know, I use this going
- 45:39Speaker 3: on a walk or in the car where I don't
- 45:41Speaker 3: even have to look at the screen, which is which
- 45:43Speaker 3: is really nice right in this day and age where
- 45:45Speaker 3: we're looking at screens, you know a lot of the time,
- 45:48Speaker 3: to just be able to not look at the screen
- 45:50Speaker 3: and get the benefits of journaling and self expression and
- 45:55Speaker 3: learning about ourselves.
- 45:56Speaker 1: So I have to ask you on though, and people
- 45:58Speaker 1: will draw the comparison. It's like with chat gpt uh,
- 46:03Speaker 1: where it kind of remembers information, uh, jem and io
- 46:07Speaker 1: does the same thing. What would be what would you
- 46:10Speaker 1: say is the big difference between maybe using a service
- 46:14Speaker 1: like chat gpt and then of course rosebud.
- 46:17Speaker 3: Yeah, So the biggest differences are that rosebud is specifically
- 46:22Speaker 3: designed for this process, so chattup might give you really
- 46:27Speaker 3: really long responses. The the way that that chat learns
- 46:32Speaker 3: about you and remembers you is different than the way
- 46:34Speaker 3: that Rosebud remembers you. We have a specific way that
- 46:40Speaker 3: we've built the memory system that is specific for helping
- 46:44Speaker 3: you specifically understand yourself better, which is different than just
- 46:48Speaker 3: like general kind of memory and the Yeah, the functionality
- 46:54Speaker 3: and tooling is really specifically for this use case. We
- 46:58Speaker 3: have different personas within there as well that are which
- 47:02Speaker 3: are basically like AI personas. So one would be if
- 47:06Speaker 3: you want to be challenged more, there's a challenger persona.
- 47:09Speaker 3: Some people like a little bit more direct feedback, right
- 47:12Speaker 3: if you We've also worked with therapists as well to
- 47:17Speaker 3: create various personas around certain modalities, so you know, there's
- 47:25Speaker 3: a there's different therapeutic frameworks like a ct ifs, et cetera.
- 47:31Speaker 3: That it's not it's not therapy necessarily, but it gives
- 47:35Speaker 3: you some exposure to the benefits of some of those modalities,
- 47:38Speaker 3: especially if you're working with a therapist.
- 47:40Speaker 1: At the same time, I have somebody is saying, well,
- 47:43Speaker 1: you know what, they start off in the morning, I
- 47:45Speaker 1: want to eat healthier this week, and they put in
- 47:48Speaker 1: maybe what they had. They'll get feedback too. As well
- 47:51Speaker 1: from from the AI say okay, what are you gonna
- 47:54Speaker 1: try to get? You get that information and you can
- 47:57Speaker 1: go through a week of that and you'll probably feel
- 48:00Speaker 1: better and find yourself eating healthier because you've been putting
- 48:04Speaker 1: this information in and getting that feedback. That feedback really
- 48:08Speaker 1: helps make that connection, does it?
- 48:10Speaker 3: It? And Rosebud also in terms of learning about you,
- 48:16Speaker 3: it learns about your goals, so you and it will
- 48:18Speaker 3: actually help you track your goals over time as well.
- 48:21Speaker 3: So not only are you getting that feedback, Rosebud is
- 48:26Speaker 3: going to remind you like, oh, you know, it seems
- 48:29Speaker 3: like you know you're you're on your way to this goal,
- 48:34Speaker 3: or it seems like maybe you're veering off of this goal,
- 48:37Speaker 3: you know, and it'll just kind of subtly nudge right.
- 48:40Speaker 3: And if you say like, hey, this is not a
- 48:42Speaker 3: goal anymore, then I'll say, okay, great. So but it's
- 48:45Speaker 3: there to help you on what you want to work on, right,
- 48:48Speaker 3: And so if you say that something's important to you,
- 48:51Speaker 3: it's going to remember that and help you work toward
- 48:54Speaker 3: that as well.
- 48:55Speaker 1: That is great. And you do offer student and military
- 48:59Speaker 1: dis scount or disability it discounts I should say.
- 49:02Speaker 3: Yes, we do offer substantial discounts for military, students and
- 49:08Speaker 3: people with disabilities.
- 49:10Speaker 1: This is great now to get in all they need
- 49:12Speaker 1: to do they could download the app from the Google
- 49:14Speaker 1: Play Store or of course the iOS the Apple Store,
- 49:19Speaker 1: but they could jump onto the web right now and
- 49:21Speaker 1: take a look and see some of the different comments
- 49:23Speaker 1: that people have been lefting leaving the reviews have been
- 49:26Speaker 1: really good. That's got to make you feel pretty good, Sean.
- 49:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it's one of the most gratifying parts
- 49:32Speaker 3: of doing this work is just seeing how incredibly impactful
- 49:37Speaker 3: this has been for so many people. You know, it's
- 49:40Speaker 3: a simple thing, right, but sometimes simple things go a
- 49:44Speaker 3: long way for the right people at the right time.
- 49:47Speaker 3: And yeah, I'm really grateful that we're able to create
- 49:51Speaker 3: a product that's having such a positive impact in the world.
- 49:54Speaker 1: Now, we like to ask, too, did you have a
- 49:57Speaker 1: light bulb moment Shun that made you say, what if
- 50:00Speaker 1: we were able to do this with AI? In development
- 50:04Speaker 1: development of Rosebud. Was there a moment there they just
- 50:08Speaker 1: switch for you saying this is what we need to do?
- 50:11Speaker 3: You know it was It was really through my own
- 50:14Speaker 3: experience and realizing, like AI is moving so fast. AI
- 50:20Speaker 3: is evolving so fast, right, and you know you can
- 50:23Speaker 3: ask the questions of like, oh, how fast is the
- 50:25Speaker 3: HIGN evolved?
- 50:26Speaker 1: Is it going to involve?
- 50:27Speaker 3: I think the more interesting question is can we use
- 50:31Speaker 3: AI to help us evolve as humans right internally? And
- 50:35Speaker 3: that was a light bulb moment that I was like, Okay,
- 50:37Speaker 3: this is what I want to focus on, is how
- 50:40Speaker 3: I can facilitate that process for people.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Great stuff, Seanda Dashi, Thank you so much for coming
- 50:45Speaker 1: on and talking about rosebud. Also, where did the name?
- 50:50Speaker 1: Did the name have anything to do with the sled
- 50:53Speaker 1: with Citizen Kane?
- 50:55Speaker 3: So unfortunately didn't. I know. I'm in I'm in Los
- 50:58Speaker 3: Angeles and everybody out here is in film and they
- 51:00Speaker 3: all everyone thinks that it came came from Citizen King,
- 51:04Speaker 3: but actually it comes from a journaling practice called rosebud
- 51:09Speaker 3: thorn which is a rose which is something good that
- 51:12Speaker 3: happened to your day, a thorn something bad, and a
- 51:15Speaker 3: bud which is something you're looking forward to.
- 51:18Speaker 1: Absolutely, what a great idea. Thanks again, Sean, and for
- 51:22Speaker 1: coming on Tech Talk Radio and continued success and I'm
- 51:25Speaker 1: going to keep using it because I'm liking it.
- 51:28Speaker 3: Thanks Andy. I appreciate it, and.
- 51:31Speaker 1: Now back to Tech Talk Radio.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Happy Mario Day.
- 51:36Speaker 1: Record day today is March tenth.
- 51:40Speaker 2: Mario, have a Super Mario Day, is what I've seen
- 51:43Speaker 2: on Mario.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Yeah, Super Mario Day. So why didn't so they call it?
- 51:47Speaker 1: Because Mr one zero looks like Mario? Is that the deal?
- 51:51Speaker 2: March tenth? March tenth?
- 51:53Speaker 1: Are they? They're coming out with something new for the Switch, right? Yeah?
- 51:57Speaker 2: So they announced Yoshi in the Mysterious Book Right for
- 52:01Speaker 2: the Switch to dropping May twenty first of this year.
- 52:04Speaker 1: Oh, which would be cool.
- 52:05Speaker 2: I think it's the first standalone Yoshi title in quite
- 52:09Speaker 2: some time.
- 52:10Speaker 1: And then the movie. They've got a movie sequel.
- 52:12Speaker 2: Oh my goodness. Have you seen the trailer for the movie. Yeah,
- 52:15Speaker 2: it's going to be incredible.
- 52:17Speaker 1: It's gonna be I'll be honest with you. I never
- 52:19Speaker 1: saw the first movie, but I saw the trailer I saw,
- 52:22Speaker 1: and I saw the trailer for this one, and I thought,
- 52:24Speaker 1: this looks like it's gonna be a lot of fun.
- 52:26Speaker 2: They are good, So yeah, I mean, you watch the
- 52:28Speaker 2: trailer and I got excited because I actually really enjoyed
- 52:32Speaker 2: supermar Brothers two the video game, which was way different
- 52:36Speaker 2: than the original, and then even drastically different than what
- 52:39Speaker 2: came out at supermar Brothers three, and one of the
- 52:42Speaker 2: you know, one of the main bosses in that game
- 52:44Speaker 2: is called Burdo, which shoots eggs out of her mouth.
- 52:47Speaker 2: She made an appearance in this in the trailer, and
- 52:51Speaker 2: I don't know what it is about that supermar Bars two,
- 52:55Speaker 2: it's but making an appearance in there. It's gonna be good,
- 52:59Speaker 2: and Daisy and Rosalina are in there. So there's a
- 53:02Speaker 2: handful of characters beyond just Mario, Princess Toad, Peach, you
- 53:06Speaker 2: all the kind of thing. The first one was really good.
- 53:10Speaker 2: This one's gonna be good too. And I think still
- 53:13Speaker 2: my favorite part from the first one is because Jack
- 53:16Speaker 2: Jack Black played Bowser.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Yeah, and he made.
- 53:21Speaker 2: A live action music video to the song Peaches, which
- 53:26Speaker 2: he sings in the movie. Yeah, because Bowser's in love
- 53:30Speaker 2: with Peach and it's the whole thing, and it's go
- 53:32Speaker 2: watch it. It's totally one Jack Black. It's great. That's
- 53:37Speaker 2: gonna be on your head for days.
- 53:38Speaker 1: There's another game that came out today also, and I've
- 53:41Speaker 1: been hearing a lot about it called Ranger's Path National
- 53:44Speaker 1: Park Simulator, and you basically walk around in National Park.
- 53:50Speaker 1: That's basically it.
- 53:51Speaker 2: I mean similar to like Firewatch. Yeah, you simulate being
- 53:56Speaker 2: a Firewatch person and have to track down fires and
- 53:59Speaker 2: you catch skinny dippers in the lake and all stuff.
- 54:01Speaker 2: It's hilarious.
- 54:02Speaker 1: Also, make sure I give a mention to Next Playground
- 54:06Speaker 1: any x Playground. You know, they were ranked as a
- 54:09Speaker 1: big seller over the holidays and of course Black Friday,
- 54:13Speaker 1: just because people are finding it and saying wow, I
- 54:16Speaker 1: can actually interact with my television. And they've got some
- 54:19Speaker 1: new titles that are coming out as well. You know,
- 54:21Speaker 1: if you get the pass, which is about eighty nine
- 54:23Speaker 1: bucks for a year, you get access to a whole
- 54:26Speaker 1: bunch of games that you could play on the Next Playground.
- 54:29Speaker 1: It comes with five games, but some of the newer
- 54:32Speaker 1: ones that they're going to be coming out with Dora,
- 54:35Speaker 1: it's their first Spanish learning experience through what they're calling
- 54:38Speaker 1: motion based minigames designed to build vocabulary, coordination and confidence.
- 54:43Speaker 1: And then you've got Avatar The Last Airbender. It's a
