- 0:00Speaker 1: The dog absolutely did not have it coming. It's one
- 0:03Speaker 1: more thing.
- 0:05Speaker 2: I'm strong and Getty.
- 0:06Speaker 3: One more thing. But before we get to that, do
- 0:15Speaker 3: you remember the movie Roadhouse with Patrick Swayze, highly mocked
- 0:20Speaker 3: by many people over the years.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Lots of women.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Loved Patrick Swayze in that movie back in the day
- 0:27Speaker 3: in the nineties, nineteen ninety four.
- 0:29Speaker 2: There is a bouncer or something that's a.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Bouncer at a bar with fabulous hair and lots of
- 0:36Speaker 3: fighting guys around pool tables and whatnot. What's the best
- 0:39Speaker 3: description of it, Handsome.
- 0:40Speaker 2: You nailed it.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Perfect, perfect terror, perfect guy fighting guys around a pool
- 0:45Speaker 3: table on a pool tab.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Plus he drove that incredible Buick Riviera. Oh yeah, that
- 0:50Speaker 2: was a freaking cool car. Yeah that's true.
- 0:52Speaker 3: I fell in love with that car from that movie.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Hanson's a car guy. In case you didn't notice, it
- 0:59Speaker 3: is a cultural touch stone. So they decided to make
- 1:01Speaker 3: a new version of it. Let's hear a little of
- 1:03Speaker 3: course with Jake gillen Hall. Let's hear a little bit
- 1:05Speaker 3: of the trailer.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Tell me about the spouts. Yeah, that's all nice, Like
- 1:08Speaker 2: he's mister Rogers something. Then kill haul off. Really interesting guy.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Overall, Brand wants to take the roadhouse away from me.
- 1:19Speaker 2: He wants to build some resort. I should warn you
- 1:24Speaker 2: people have a certain way of getting things done around here.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Oh there you go, And I think that gives you
- 1:30Speaker 3: the tone. So here's the explanation. In IMBD, an ex
- 1:34Speaker 3: UFC middleweight fighter ends up working in a rowdy bar
- 1:38Speaker 3: in the Florida Keys, where things are not as they seem. No, no,
- 1:42Speaker 3: I thought they were as they seem, but they're not.
- 1:49Speaker 3: We know what kind of car he drives in this movie.
- 1:51Speaker 3: I hope it's not a Prius AMC pacer anyway. The
- 1:55Speaker 3: picture on the cover is Jake gillen Hall with his
- 1:59Speaker 3: shirt undone, and he is he went Ryan Gosling appears
- 2:02Speaker 3: he did a lot of working out and dieting for
- 2:05Speaker 3: this movie to get prepared for it. Yes, you got
- 2:07Speaker 3: some more, Michael, I had to, Oh, I'm looking at
- 2:09Speaker 3: the picture up there. Oh yeah, lots of fighting, lots
- 2:12Speaker 3: of punching, lots of bear chested.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Yeah, you're gonna like this sort of thing.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Did I hear somebody saying off Mike that Colin McGregor
- 2:21Speaker 1: is the bad guy or did I miss hear that.
- 2:23Speaker 2: He is he's in acting in the movie. I wonder
- 2:26Speaker 2: how he is, and he's perfect for this role. He
- 2:29Speaker 2: plays himself. Yeah, no, violent jackass.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm trying, not for the role of the giant,
- 2:35Speaker 3: for the for the jackass, violet jackass.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I'd like to cry out for that role. You're perfect. Yeah,
- 2:42Speaker 2: let's just start rolling.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Yeah anyway, Yeah, uh, look for that in the theaters.
- 2:46Speaker 3: I hope somebody doesn't make me go to it.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Speaking speaking of violence, We've touched on the story a
- 2:54Speaker 1: couple of times, but there's a lot going on here
- 2:57Speaker 1: that I wanted to talk about a little bit. It's
- 3:01Speaker 1: the story of the California woman who was convicted of
- 3:05Speaker 1: killing her boyfriend by stabbing him one hundred and eight
- 3:09Speaker 1: times during a quote cannabis induced psychosis a couple of
- 3:15Speaker 1: days ago. This thirty three year old woman, her name
- 3:18Speaker 1: is Brinn, was sentenced to two years probation and was
- 3:21Speaker 1: ordered to perform one hundred hours of community service after
- 3:24Speaker 1: being found guilty of killing her new boyfriend. They'd been
- 3:27Speaker 1: going out for a couple of weeks, I guess a
- 3:30Speaker 1: few weeks. According to the Ventura County Star, the Superior
- 3:36Speaker 1: court judge ruled that the woman had quote no control
- 3:40Speaker 1: over her actions when she entered into a psychotic episode
- 3:43Speaker 1: and stabbed the young man repeatedly.
- 3:45Speaker 2: This was back in twenty eighteen.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Experts for the prosecution and the defense both found that
- 3:52Speaker 1: the marijuana bong hit given to the woman threw her
- 3:55Speaker 1: into a deadly psychotic episode and from that point forward
- 4:00Speaker 1: she had no control of her actions. Again, the prosecution
- 4:03Speaker 1: agreed with the defense in this case. The key to
- 4:08Speaker 1: it because it is a and it took me a
- 4:11Speaker 1: long time to understand why this had to be, but
- 4:14Speaker 1: it's a well known principle of American law that if
- 4:18Speaker 1: you do something horrific when you're wasted, well it's your fault.
- 4:23Speaker 1: You were wasted, So the whole thing's your fault.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Right, right, right.
- 4:28Speaker 1: And I just happened to read Really Moving Peace by
- 4:33Speaker 1: William Crystal, I think in the New York Times, not
- 4:36Speaker 1: to get off on a tangent, but it was about
- 4:37Speaker 1: a childhood friend of his who did something horrific while
- 4:40Speaker 1: wasting on drugs. And what was really really interesting and
- 4:45Speaker 1: they remained friends to the extent that they could, But
- 4:48Speaker 1: was really interesting about this story is the guy who
- 4:51Speaker 1: did the heinous act is a hardcore. It's on me,
- 4:55Speaker 1: nobody else. I made the decisions, I did the act.
- 4:59Speaker 1: It is on me, no excuse making. Don't blame society,
- 5:02Speaker 1: don't blame anything. In Crystal, the New York Times lefty
- 5:06Speaker 1: columnist is about well, I admire that, in some ways,
- 5:09Speaker 1: isn't the hopelessness that certain communities have endured because of
- 5:13Speaker 1: the something and something in the drug use that it's
- 5:16Speaker 1: led to really at fault here? So even as his
- 5:19Speaker 1: friend himself is angrily saying, no, don't blame this on
- 5:23Speaker 1: anything but my decisions, he is a left He had
- 5:26Speaker 1: to cling to the he has no agency, he was
- 5:28Speaker 1: forced to by society. Anyway, Well, I'm a bit of
- 5:30Speaker 1: a tangent.
- 5:30Speaker 3: I've heard a lot of stories we all have where
- 5:32Speaker 3: it seems like, God, dang it, they were out of
- 5:36Speaker 3: their mind, they didn't even know what they were doing,
- 5:37Speaker 3: and this happened, and now they're gonna be But what
- 5:40Speaker 3: is the alternative? If you're going to have the alternative
- 5:43Speaker 3: be you get any leeway for not my fault? I
- 5:47Speaker 3: was hammered the how's that going to work? There's no
- 5:52Speaker 3: other option?
- 5:53Speaker 2: Well, and what's the difference between this and blacking out drunk?
- 5:59Speaker 2: You know.
- 5:59Speaker 4: I mean, if blackout, drunken, you do something. Now they've
- 6:02Speaker 4: kind of opened this weird loophole where it's like.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Well they haven't though, I see what you're saying, and
- 6:07Speaker 1: that's what we're talking about. That's yeah, you can't wait.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I was wasted is not a defense. Here's the thing.
- 6:15Speaker 1: And everybody agrees with this, and I don't know whether
- 6:19Speaker 1: it's right or wrong. She said she did a hit
- 6:23Speaker 1: and really didn't feel anything, and her boyfriend says to
- 6:28Speaker 1: do another hit, and she said, I don't want to, and.
- 6:31Speaker 2: He talked her into it. He insisted that she do it.
- 6:34Speaker 1: So she did another hit and quickly was just overwhelmed
- 6:37Speaker 1: and completely wasted. Now I wasn't there at the trial,
- 6:42Speaker 1: and trust me when I say, having been a juror
- 6:44Speaker 1: a few times, you've got to be there and take
- 6:48Speaker 1: in the testimony. Otherwise you have no idea what happened.
- 6:52Speaker 1: The drive by media, even if they're of good conscience
- 6:55Speaker 1: and trying their best, their description to the testimony just
- 6:58Speaker 1: it's not good enough.
- 7:00Speaker 3: So anyway, so I'll I take your point, as people
- 7:05Speaker 3: are fond of saying right now that that's the case,
- 7:09Speaker 3: But how do you separate that from I knew I
- 7:13Speaker 3: was drunk enough, but everybody was.
- 7:15Speaker 2: One more, one more, you gotta do it, Come on,
- 7:18Speaker 2: and you did one more shot and then you blacked out.
- 7:21Speaker 1: And back to Katie's point that I didn't mean to
- 7:23Speaker 1: shut you down. I just wanted to get that first
- 7:25Speaker 1: part out first. The only other person who is there
- 7:29Speaker 1: that night is dead. Yeah, and so again I would
- 7:33Speaker 1: have liked to have been there in the court hearing
- 7:35Speaker 1: the testimony that convinced everybody, including the prosecution.
- 7:39Speaker 2: That this woman was essentially blameless.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Law enforcement founder covered in blood, hysterically crying next to
- 7:47Speaker 1: her boyfriend's body, still gripping the knife, she plunged the
- 7:50Speaker 1: knife into her own throat when police attempted disarmor. Also
- 7:54Speaker 1: stabbed her dog during the rampage. According to the outlet,
- 7:57Speaker 1: and if you've seen pictures of her after she was arrested,
- 8:00Speaker 1: that she did herself some damage.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Wow.
- 8:04Speaker 4: Yeah, her neck and her throat areas cut up big time.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, it's it's it's horrible now.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Under California law, a person is seen as responsible for
- 8:15Speaker 1: their actions when impaired by drugs or alcohol, unless they're
- 8:18Speaker 1: intoxication is involuntary. Jurors took less than four hours to
- 8:22Speaker 1: find her guilty of involuntary manslaughter. During the sentencing, she
- 8:27Speaker 1: sobbed in court as she apologized to the father of
- 8:29Speaker 1: the victim boy.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Involuntary holding you down and putting something in you is
- 8:37Speaker 3: definitely involuntary. Yeah, convincing you to do something I don't know.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's not You're not wrong, You're right.
- 8:48Speaker 4: They had to have said something in this trial that
- 8:51Speaker 4: made everybody go okay, because this is completely making zero
- 8:55Speaker 4: sense to me now without hearing the whole she was
- 8:57Speaker 4: she just.
- 8:57Speaker 2: So scared of him or something. I don't know.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Wellner the prosecution painted her as a party girl who
- 9:05Speaker 1: just wanted to get high. She was portrayed in a
- 9:08Speaker 1: different light by her father during sensing hearing. She's worked
- 9:12Speaker 1: her whole life to help others hearing impairments. She's an audiologist.
- 9:16Speaker 1: On the other hand, the victim's father accused the judge
- 9:21Speaker 1: of being biased and claimed following his ruling that the
- 9:24Speaker 1: judge said a dangerous president quote, he just gave everyone
- 9:27Speaker 1: in the state of California, you smoked marijuana, license to
- 9:29Speaker 1: kill someone.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I wouldn't.
- 9:33Speaker 3: I don't know if it's that far, but it's closer
- 9:35Speaker 3: to that than I would like it to be.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Yeah, this is Yeah, this is one of these story
- 9:42Speaker 1: slash cases where the outcome is so surprising to me.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I feel like I'm missing something important. Whether it's the
- 9:48Speaker 1: specific testimony, well, it's probably a specific testimony. But I also
- 9:58Speaker 1: think it's so interesting human nature wise that the father
- 10:01Speaker 1: of the guy who died does not see it the
- 10:03Speaker 1: way the.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Gals father does.
- 10:06Speaker 1: We all see what we want to see.
- 10:08Speaker 4: Well, and to the dad's point, what now is stopping
- 10:11Speaker 4: someone from claiming psychosis?
- 10:14Speaker 2: Right, that's good point.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Well, Oh my gosh, I've come across several articles recently.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Pot is so strong and young people who use it
- 10:21Speaker 1: too much are causing themselves psychotic problems. Now, granted that
- 10:25Speaker 1: is arguably voluntary, but if you have any case where
- 10:29Speaker 1: the other person is dead, it's like a weird he said,
- 10:32Speaker 1: she said, Oh, I didn't want to smoke at all
- 10:34Speaker 1: with him.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I did not.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I did not want to drink that vodka at all.
- 10:38Speaker 1: He held me by the hair and poured it down
- 10:40Speaker 1: my throat. Right. May may have, and then it comes
- 10:44Speaker 1: down to whether the jury believes them or not.
- 10:47Speaker 3: That's tough, man.
- 10:48Speaker 2: We will tough. We will keep our eye on this story.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Back to the movie Roadhouse.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Oh, Katie, have you ever seen have you ever seen Roadhouse?
- 10:57Speaker 2: I have years ago?
- 10:58Speaker 3: Okay, right, So chicks dug it and then some guys
- 11:01Speaker 3: dug it for different reasons. So I just saw the trailer.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Hanson was playing it while we were talking earlier. I've
- 11:06Speaker 3: seen the Connor McGregor part. He plays the out of
- 11:09Speaker 3: control bad guy. This might be the most it's two
- 11:13Speaker 3: on the nose casting in the history of casting. It'd
- 11:18Speaker 3: be like if you had a movie about a guy
- 11:20Speaker 3: who murdered his ex wife and O. J.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Simpson's playing him. I just was watching, right right, I
- 11:26Speaker 2: was just.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Here's the scene, Connor where an old man looks at
- 11:30Speaker 1: it at you in the bar here, and you get
- 11:32Speaker 1: pissed off and you and you sucker punch him in
- 11:34Speaker 1: the face.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Oh, that'll be easy to play.
- 11:37Speaker 3: I just watched a He walks into the pool room
- 11:39Speaker 3: and somebody gives him a bad look, and so he
- 11:41Speaker 3: smashes the cue over the table, and then somebody else
- 11:43Speaker 3: says something to him. He walks up and heads butts
- 11:45Speaker 3: him in the face. Well, was this part of the
- 11:47Speaker 3: movie or was this just video from the bar you
- 11:49Speaker 3: were at last Saturday night?
- 11:51Speaker 2: Is this a.
- 11:53Speaker 4: They just told all the extras to go in there
- 11:55Speaker 4: and do their thing and gave him no warning.
- 11:57Speaker 2: It's just a total improv.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Exactly your Your OJ movie idea is brilliant.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Would take that friggin' roll too.
- 12:08Speaker 3: I don't know if I can think of an example
- 12:09Speaker 3: where they'd had a park for a movie. They just
- 12:12Speaker 3: you know, you bring Ted Bundy out of prison to
- 12:14Speaker 3: play the serial killer or something. It's just it's weird.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Okay, OJ, We're gonna put you in a white Bronco.
- 12:20Speaker 2: You're gonna lead the cops with a high speed chase
- 12:22Speaker 2: because it's interesting.
- 12:26Speaker 3: So I'm watching Connor McGregor on the video here smashing
- 12:29Speaker 3: up this pool hall and it looks exactly like the
- 12:32Speaker 3: video where he goes nuts and throws that chair through
- 12:35Speaker 3: the window of that bus and everything like that. It's
- 12:38Speaker 3: the same. He looks exactly the same. And do you
- 12:44Speaker 3: get credit? Would you get best actor for that or what?
- 12:48Speaker 3: I think I gotta come up with a special category.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Best representation of your real life goes to Connor McGregor.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Best being yourself? Exactly weird anyway, what's he looking at,
- 13:00Speaker 2: old man? Why you're looking at me? Old man? Come on,
- 13:04Speaker 2: I think he's a dick. Connor McGregor. I kind of
- 13:08Speaker 2: love something about him. Well, I know all women do.
- 13:10Speaker 2: All women do not like that.
- 13:12Speaker 4: I just love that he takes We could say it
- 13:14Speaker 4: on here. It takes no shit and just I don't know.
- 13:17Speaker 2: I there's something about him. And he's irish. He definitely
- 13:20Speaker 2: takes no ship. Well, he's damaged goods. His brain isn't right,
- 13:24Speaker 2: that's true. He's been been beaten to any times about
- 13:27Speaker 2: the head. Anyway, We'll see how this movie turns out.
- 13:29Speaker 3: I guess he steals a line from Patrick Swayze from
- 13:32Speaker 3: Dirty Dancing, and he says, nobody leaves baby in a
- 13:35Speaker 3: corner and then beats the.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Guy breaks her nose. Well, I guess that's it.
