- 0:33Well, I guess that just about wraps up April and I have to give a big shout
- 0:39out to you, Tanya, for helping us get through this April episode here.
- 0:43And as Brad likes to say, unfortunately, he couldn't be with us here tonight.
- 0:46That was set up pretty well.
- 0:47That was, that was set up pretty well.
- 0:48But I thought we were going to get a good April fool's on you, my man.
- 0:52No.
- 0:53Well, I guess we should probably kick this thing off.
- 0:55Shouldn't we?
- 0:56Maybe I got to get to it.
- 0:58Pop the clutch.
- 0:59Let's do it.
- 1:00Welcome to drive through episode number 44.
- 1:03This is our monthly recap where we put together a menu of automotive,
- 1:07motorsport, and random car.
- 1:09Jason news.
- 1:10Now.
- 1:11Let's pull up to window number one for some automotive news.
- 1:15Well, you know, in the spirit of April fools, we seem to do this every year,
- 1:18kind of flip flopping between herb day, earth day, April fools for April.
- 1:23It's such a slow news month.
- 1:26And I got to bring something up that you brought up before Brad,
- 1:29that you don't like to hear.
- 1:31It's the mid year already for 2024 vehicles.
- 1:35And I think that's why the news is so slow because we should be
- 1:38talking about those 20, 25 models that are right around the corner.
- 1:42I can't say that I'm excited about any new cars, really.
- 1:45I found a good one for you.
- 1:46And in the spirit of, of upcoming father's day of April fools, I found the perfect.
- 1:52Dad joke for you.
- 1:53You know how many, many times on this show you will kick off and go, you
- 1:58know what really grinds my gears?
- 2:01Yeah.
- 2:02The old family guy bit.
- 2:03Yep.
- 2:03Yeah.
- 2:03You know what really grinds my gears?
- 2:05Uh, what's that?
- 2:06Clutch failure.
- 2:08Yeah, I'd have to say that is probably the number one cause of grinding gears.
- 2:14I thought that was good.
- 2:15I read that.
- 2:16I laughed out loud.
- 2:17I was like, that is the perfect petrol head dad joke.
- 2:20If I've ever heard one, that's, that's fantastic.
- 2:22Yes.
- 2:23It is unfortunately a slow news month.
- 2:25We aren't kidding about that, but we do have some things to cover here.
- 2:29Wanted to kick off just a little bit of Earth Day stuff, talking about the 20th
- 2:33anniversary of the green Grand Prix.
- 2:35If you missed it, I'm sorry you missed it.
- 2:37We live streamed it again this year on our Twitch channel, and we were
- 2:41posting about it on our new Instagram.
- 2:43So if you're not following us at Motoring Podcast Network.
- 2:46Please do so that's where we're posting all the updates about the shows, about
- 2:50the drive thrus, about everything we're doing, especially with our partners
- 2:52and other folks that are participating in the motor and podcast network.
- 2:56So 20 years, the green ground pre I got to ride a shotgun with one
- 3:02of the folks from Toyota corporate in a brand new 2024 Prius prime.
- 3:07I learned a ton about it.
- 3:09There's a nearly.
- 3:11Hour and 45 minute video of us going back and forth, talking about the
- 3:15Prius, talking about Toyota, the history of Toyota motorsport, as we're
- 3:20driving around the track, so you get a perspective of Watkins Glen while
- 3:23we're driving this Prius and, you know, debating back and forth and stuff.
- 3:26So shout out to Jeremy from Toyota.
- 3:28Fantastic time.
- 3:29Excellent driver has done the green Grand Prix a ton of times.
- 3:32The autocross was a little lackluster this year.
- 3:34We have recap footage of that as well out on our YouTube channel.
- 3:38The weather wasn't great.
- 3:39And I'm thinking maybe that's what kind of put a damper, ha
- 3:42ha pun intended on the event.
- 3:44It did start to clear up throughout the weekend, but I will say some of my
- 3:49favorite cars, as you saw, we posted some pictures on our social media on at grand
- 3:53touring motor sports, Instagram channel, the veggie powered rabbit diesel pickup
- 3:57truck was definitely a favorite for me.
- 4:00And then the Autocross killing Geo Metro, AKA Suzuki Swift was back and
- 4:07all EV built by one of the universities.
- 4:09Fantastic car.
- 4:10Good to see that back out there again.
- 4:11And I'm assuming they explain how the ruling works or
- 4:15the scoring and everything.
- 4:16So what is it?
- 4:17It's the greatest distance in the amount of time you have to run it or something?
- 4:20It's a trophy bearing event because it's a SCCA sanctioned Road rally.
- 4:26So you actually score SCCA points, you get a trophy.
- 4:29It's a legitimate, it's not just some gimmicky thing that they're putting on.
- 4:33It's very professionally done.
- 4:35I mean, obviously after 20 years, they've got their act together.
- 4:37This year they did try some different timing software, which is pretty cool.
- 4:41And the most important thing, you know, obviously the autocross is
- 4:43scored like a traditional SCCA autocross and all that kind of stuff.
- 4:46Yeah.
- 4:46Oh my God.
- 4:47The Sienna at the autocross.
- 4:48That'd be fun.
- 4:49They, uh, and they do break it down into classes, which is cool.
- 4:52So the Sienna Pride be in its own class as a van, just like my Jeep was in a diesel
- 4:56only class, you know, that kind of thing.
- 4:58So it's not closed to just EVs or hybrids.
- 5:01It's alternative to gasoline.
- 5:03So there's a whole bunch of options there.
- 5:05There's homegrown, there's SAE cars, all sorts of stuff at the Green Grand Prix.
- 5:09So at the end, what you hang your hat on, what you can boast
- 5:12about is those MPG numbers.
- 5:14And I'm surprised you guys didn't ask me, how did the Prius do?
- 5:17Is the Prius Prime a plug in hybrid?
- 5:19It is.
- 5:20What I've learned is all the prime models are plugins.
- 5:24Okay.
- 5:25So that, that's what makes it prime.
- 5:26Exactly.
- 5:27We managed to squeeze out by playing with the hybrid system because
- 5:31what's cool about the prime is you can actually force it into gas only
- 5:34mode or full EV mode or hybrid mode.
- 5:37You can hypermile it.
- 5:38You can, you can.
- 5:40So we were able to stretch the 40 miles of all electric that it can do.
- 5:4449.
- 5:44Yeah.
- 5:45Throughout the 80 miles.
- 5:47Of the green ground pre and we clocked in 99.
- 5:519 miles per gallon.
- 5:53It was insane.
- 5:54So we barely used a gallon of fuel during that entire, like
- 5:58two hours that we were on track.
- 6:00Something tells me that the E46 M3 that Clarkson ran against the Prius
- 6:06on the top of your track would not be able to see those same numbers.
- 6:10No, not even close.
- 6:12The Green Grand Prix is a lot of fun, hoping to see it
- 6:15grow maybe in its 21st year.
- 6:17Here's some rumors about things that are changing.
- 6:19So really looking forward to that coming up next year at Watkins Glen.
- 6:22So if you can make the trek, check it out.
- 6:24But if you want to see what it's been like over the last couple of
- 6:27years, check our YouTube channel for all the different live streams.
- 6:30I guess they wouldn't be live streams anymore.
- 6:31They would be Just videos, right?
- 6:33Streaming.
- 6:33Yeah.
- 6:34Streams.
- 6:34I guess you're streaming it.
- 6:35Yeah.
- 6:36Before you move on for those of us, wink, wink, nudge, nudge me who are interested
- 6:41in possibly running with my, now that I'm a hybrid owner, Toyota Sienna,
- 6:46maybe next year or in years to come, where can we go to get more information?
- 6:51www.
- 6:53greengrandprix.
- 6:55com.
- 6:56That'll have all the rules, regulations, details, costs.
- 6:59It's not a very expensive event, but yeah, everything you need
- 7:01to know is on greengrandprix.
- 7:03com.
- 7:03Well, other big news for the show, we advertise this.
- 7:07On the motoring podcast network, Instagram, and a bunch of other places.
- 7:11As you know, we have a partnership that's been building with the ACO for
- 7:14the American arm of the automobile club of the West, the sanctioning
- 7:17body of 24 hours in Lemans.
- 7:19So I took over as the MC for evening with a legend.
- 7:22And I was looking back over the calendar, you know, kind of reminding people,
- 7:25Hey, you know, check out these episodes and things that we've done in the past.
- 7:28And almost to the day, the serendipity of this, right.
- 7:32And I hate that word almost to the day.
- 7:35I got to sit down and do round two with Mario Andretti.
- 7:39What an unbelievable, just legendary driver.
- 7:43Hell of a guy for almost 85 years old.
- 7:46He is in top physical shape.
- 7:48He's all there.
- 7:49Amazing storyteller.
- 7:50We specifically talked about his not one, not two, but nine attempts.
- 7:57Winning Lamar over basically a four decade period.
- 8:02And so lots of really interesting stories.
- 8:04I mean, there's one point when you listen to the interview, we're just
- 8:07cracking up because he's talking about breaking zones at night.
- 8:09And he tells a story about this church and he kept using it as a reference point.
- 8:13At one point he goes, I just kept thinking that I hope the church doesn't move.
- 8:18What?
- 8:20So it was a lot of fun.
- 8:22It was good to get back together with Mario again.
- 8:25And we're going to re release the episode here in the next coming week.
- 8:28So stay tuned to break fix podcast, where you'll see the evening
- 8:32with a legend series coming out.
- 8:33We're actually kicking it off with a reprise of Ben Keating's
- 8:37episode from late last year.
- 8:39So that's going to come out and then we're going to go to leapfrog.
- 8:41Some of the episodes.
- 8:42So we're going to be bringing that onto the motoring podcast network,
- 8:45obviously sponsored by the ACO.
- 8:46So really looking forward to that.
- 8:48I also did Rick noobs a couple of months ago in February.
- 8:51That'll be coming out here in the summer.
- 8:53And then we've got some other guests lined up, so I don't want to
- 8:55spoil anything, but if you're not an ACO USA member, check it out.
- 8:58You can get access to the private Facebook, get access
- 9:01to some of these legend.
- 9:02We actually recorded the Mario episode.
- 9:04In front of a live audience and people are sending me
- 9:07questions and managing the chat.
- 9:09And so it was a really, really good time as super geeked to see him.
- 9:12And again, you know, just focusing on those Lamont stories.
- 9:16I mean, so much good and so much bad and so many learning experiences for him.
- 9:20I just was like absorbing as much as I could from the storytelling.
- 9:23So absolutely fantastic.
- 9:24And it is available right now on our Patreon for our VIPs.
- 9:28So you can get it uncut raw, exactly the way it was recorded today.
- 9:33Patreon.
- 9:33com forward slash GT motor sports.
- 9:35Sweet.
- 9:36So what do you have planned for Mario next year?
- 9:39I know, right?
- 9:40We got to do an anniversary special with Mario and Dreddy.
- 9:42I think that's going to be awesome.
- 9:45Well, that's the end of our showcase.
- 9:48Shortest episode ever.
- 9:51So why don't we move on to automotive news?
- 9:53I feel like we should just start making shit up.
- 9:55Well, you know, that's what some other shows do, but we're
- 9:57going to stick to the facts.
- 9:58Volkswagen announced this month.
- 10:01The new W24 VR motor going into the GTI.
- 10:08So what you're saying is it's Volkswagen with a T, right?
- 10:12Remember that?
- 10:12No, it's, it's Volkswagen.
- 10:14Volkswagen, ah.
- 10:16They're from Minnesota.
- 10:17Volkswagen from Minnesota.
- 10:18We'll power it with eggs.
- 10:20That's our new alternative fuel.
- 10:21We'll call it the Yolkswagen.
- 10:23No, they should power it with potatoes.
- 10:26What would that be?
- 10:26The Spudwagen?
- 10:27Yes, the Spudnikwagen.
- 10:30All right.
- 10:31Well, we got no Volkswagen news, no Audi news, no Porsche news.
- 10:34We got nothing from Mercedes because I don't know what they're
- 10:36doing over there, building the EQS.
- 10:38But we have some news sort of by way of BMW.
- 10:41Do you guys remember the color changing car that they were kind
- 10:45of throwing out there, but it wasn't really color changing.
- 10:47It was monochromatic, like a Kindle body, and you could do all this kind of stuff.
- 10:51And then they talked about patterns and, you know, making the car
- 10:54chameleon to the background, all that.
- 10:56You remember, we talked about this a couple of times.
- 10:58Yeah, but I thought it was actually towards the end there.
- 11:01The latest variation was actually color changing.
- 11:04It was official in April.
- 11:05I don't know if it's April fools, but the headline reads.
- 11:08BMW unveils the world's first fully color changing car.
- 11:14What could go wrong?
- 11:17Cool idea.
- 11:17I guess.
- 11:18Breaker, breaker.
- 11:19I'm in pursuit of a blue, I mean, green, uh, uh, yellow BMW.
- 11:24I guess the question is how long does it take?
- 11:27Yeah.
- 11:27First of all, do you have to swipe your credit card to download the subscription
- 11:32so that you can change the color?
- 11:33And do you have to buy new colors through microtransactions?
- 11:37Do they use the BMW slash EA subscription model?
- 11:40Yes.
- 11:41All of them.
- 11:42I don't know.
- 11:42I think the idea is cool.
- 11:44I mean, you're going to see some crazy stuff.
- 11:46To quote Tanya from the last time we talked about this, I believe she
- 11:49said some asshats going to run around with dick butts all over their car.
- 11:54Shout out to Sam Harrington.
- 11:56Yeah.
- 11:56Right.
- 11:57I don't know what the limit is on the capability or the technology.
- 12:00It was just sort of a headline in a picture of a not so attractive BMW in
- 12:04a not really Harlequin, it was a very price is right looking seventies layout.
- 12:09I feel like you didn't need to say not so attractive BMW.
- 12:12I feel like you say that anyway, when you just say a BMW, you know, the
- 12:16grills are small on this particular one.
- 12:19That's the news right there.
- 12:21BMW grills have gotten smaller, small grill, small grill.
- 12:27I like the idea of a Harlequin.
- 12:29I want to change it up.
- 12:30I want my car black today, tomorrow, Navy blue.
- 12:33I want to do something crazy.
- 12:34Cause I'm going to a car show.
- 12:35I think that's cool.
- 12:36But having owned a BMW in the past, and you've heard me say
- 12:39this before, overcomplicated and not made of the best materials.
- 12:43So sort of wondering how long before this breaks, it's going
- 12:48to be expensive to replace.
- 12:49Yeah.
- 12:49Is it Sherwin Williams paint or is it bare?
- 12:52It's Kindle.
- 12:53It's Kindle paint.
- 12:53Yeah.
- 12:54Is it, do you flip a switch?
- 12:56I bet in order for it to work, the car probably has to be in park or
- 12:59it has to be in some special mode.
- 13:01Yeah.
- 13:01You can't do it while driving down the road.
- 13:03Well, it looks like I stand corrected.
- 13:06Our resident Mercedes aficionado has found an article for us.
- 13:10What is this all about?
- 13:11This is the most interesting thing happening right now.
- 13:14I mean, it's pretty sad.
- 13:15What is this fossil that you have presented us with?
- 13:19What are you talking about?
- 13:20The G Wagon.
- 13:21It's like a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
- 13:23They've been making this thing for a hundred years.
- 13:25How is this news?
- 13:26And now they're making an electric one.
- 13:28Well, yes, it's not even about the G Wagon.
- 13:32Per se, but yes, they're making an electric one, but what they're doing is
- 13:36alphabet soup badge engineering, again, dropping the whole EQ, EQE, EQ, whatever
- 13:42nomenclature, and they're going back to the more traditional letter and numbers,
- 13:48God, even though the numbers when it's EV really don't mean anything anymore,
- 13:52but the points don't matter 100 percent don't matter the EQG what get out of here.
- 14:00How do you pronounce that?
- 14:00Equi Equigee.
- 14:01E Egegee.
- 14:02I got, I got a Egegee.
- 14:04A 2005 Egegee.
- 14:05So it won't be the EQG anymore.
- 14:06It'll just be the G580.
- 14:08It's just the guh.
- 14:09The guh.
- 14:10It's the guh.
- 14:11But who knows what the 580 actually has anything to do with.
- 14:14Brad, I get your point.
- 14:15It's sort of like the Volkswagen.
- 14:17How do you actually pronounce Touareg?
- 14:19Is it twarg?
- 14:20It's Torg from Borg.
- 14:21Yeah, right.
- 14:22I never really Glommed onto the whole EQ idea, the EQE and the EQS.
- 14:27And I mean, I looked at them and I went, that's an A class,
- 14:30that's an ML, that's a G wagon.
- 14:32Why reinvent the wheel?
- 14:34You know, I guess we went through the same thing with Audi, although it's been
- 14:3830 years where they dropped the Audi 80 and the 90 and they became the A4
- 14:41and the A5 and all this kind of thing.
- 14:43And they leaned into that, but Mercedes had already
- 14:45established their nomenclature.
- 14:48And when they went to this EQ idea, it just didn't make sense.
- 14:50Now, as far as this.
- 14:51Fossil is concerned.
- 14:53It should be in a museum at this point.
- 14:55This is unbelievable that it must be super popular.
- 14:58They can continue to sell the G wagon with basically almost no revisions.
- 15:03Well, I mean, news about the G wagon, you know, a little side tangent,
- 15:07two players that were just drafted in the WNBA on the same day, both
- 15:12bought G wagons for themselves.
- 15:14So they are popular with the affluent people.
- 15:17Bought or given?
- 15:18Uh, the article I read said bought, but you know, I don't know.
- 15:24I don't think Lewis Hamilton has bought any of his Mercedes.
- 15:26That's all I'm saying.
- 15:27Oh, of course not.
- 15:28Well, I mean, they're drafted by the WNBA.
- 15:30I don't think they're getting much from Mercedes.
- 15:33I'm just saying Mercedes sponsors, some of the stadiums and sports events too.
- 15:37I mean, I see it out there every now and again.
- 15:39That's true.
- 15:39That's true.
- 15:39I wouldn't be surprised if they got some sort of sponsorship
- 15:42anyway, to tie into the G wagon.
- 15:44You know, they are still popular.
- 15:45We've got a club member or a friend of the show who has one as well.
- 15:49Although he kind of beats the crap out of his cause he actually off roads it.
- 15:53They still float around and I want to hate on it, but I
- 15:55actually, I liked the G wagon.
- 15:57I think it's cool, but it is a fossil fossil.
- 15:59They still make, I know, I know, but you know what?
- 16:02You're a fossil.
- 16:03So of course it makes sense that you would like it.
- 16:05Everything you own is fossilized.
- 16:09Here's the thing.
- 16:09Even the Jeep is, isn't that old, but it uses like old, old, old fossil fuel.
- 16:15That's true.
- 16:16Let's be real to Brad's point.
- 16:18This is.
- 16:19A vehicle for the affluent.
- 16:21The 2024 G Class, the AMG G63.
- 16:26We're going to do a pricing guess.
- 16:28Is 183, 000.
- 16:31What?
- 16:32There's a lot of other cars you can buy for 200 grand.
- 16:36There's a class of people that are supporting the purchase of these vehicles.
- 16:40Having ridden in a G Wagon, they're not that nice.
- 16:44Compared to the other Mercedes, like an S Class.
- 16:46They are military vehicles.
- 16:48Why the fuck would it be nice?
- 16:50People are delusional.
- 16:52The people that buy this, yeah, I'm going to stereotype here.
- 16:56The rich, white, blonde ladies that get this to drive around to the
- 17:00shops on Rodeo Drive, they think they're getting some luxury vehicle.
- 17:04It's the same middle class version that buys the Jeep
- 17:07Wrangler, four door or the Bronco.
- 17:10They think they're getting something super special.
- 17:11No, it's a turd.
- 17:12Dude, you got it all wrong.
- 17:14It's sort of like when all the BMW drivers started buying Audis.
- 17:18All the G Wagon soccer moms now drive Land Rover or Range
- 17:22Rovers or whatever they are.
- 17:23Evoque.
- 17:24Partially designed by Beckham.
- 17:27No, I think they're driving Cayennes.
- 17:28Well, there's that too.
- 17:30Anyway.
- 17:31If you're not driving a Puro Sangue, I don't know what you're doing, right?
- 17:34That's the new hotness right now.
- 17:36Come on.
- 17:36Yeah.
- 17:37Yeah.
- 17:39Well, since we're in mainland Europe and I just brought up Ferrari, we need
- 17:42to talk about Stellantis, don't we?
- 17:47Yes.
- 17:48Let me get to my caviar.
- 17:50Count Stellantis.
- 17:51It's like the count on Sesame Street.
- 17:53Like that's how serious I could take it.
- 17:55All right.
- 17:55Get this.
- 17:56Italy says.
- 17:58It's illegal to sell the Alfa Romeo Milano outside of Italy.
- 18:03Build.
- 18:03What?
- 18:04Not sell, build.
- 18:06Yes, they have a law that prohibits this.
- 18:09Okay, explain it to me.
- 18:11Not the Milano specifically.
- 18:13But there is some sort of law, apparently, that an Alfa Romeo cannot
- 18:18be built outside of Italy, cannot entirely be built outside of Italy.
- 18:22So there's a little loop there, and it depends how they designate, at what
- 18:26point do the components come together.
- 18:29Make it the car because they can probably do some assembly you see you build a
- 18:34rolling chassis Right some part of it bring it back in and finish it But when
- 18:38you give it the alpha heart, you got to give it the alpha heart in Italy the
- 18:43alpha soul Yes, the heart in the soul.
- 18:45I imagine walking in to Alfa Romeo behind the receptionist.
- 18:50Is this wall?
- 18:52Explaining the gestation period of an Alfa Romeo, but when is it Alfa and Alfa?
- 18:58What?
- 18:59When is it life?
- 19:01Oh, wait.
- 19:02So I am misinformed here.
- 19:04So it actually is the fact of the name of the car.
- 19:08So a car called Milano can't be produced outside of Italy because
- 19:13it's Italian sounding and it would be false advertising essentially.
- 19:19If I, can I just say this sounds like the most Italian law I've ever heard.
- 19:26This is Italy, this whole article and just the whole situation is 1000 percent Italy.
- 19:33It's so stupid.
- 19:34It's real, right?
- 19:35And that's the convoluted nature.
- 19:38And this is what drives me nuts.
- 19:39Every time I go over there, people are like, I don't understand, you
- 19:42know, your heritage, blah, blah, blah.
- 19:43And I'm like, ah, it's stuff like this that drives me nuts.
- 19:47Like who thought this was a good idea and who wasted the time to make it a law?
- 19:51I mean, I can understand if it's part of like the ethos of Alfa Romeo to be
- 19:56like, we'll call it something different.
- 19:58Sort of like the whole Alfa Romeo Tonale is sold here in the United States as the
- 20:03Dodge Hornet, which it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up because
- 20:06that drives me nuts because it has nothing to do with the Hornet, blah, blah, blah.
- 20:10We won't, I won't get on my soap box and rant about that.
- 20:12But the point is it's that kind of Idiocracy that exists.
- 20:17I mean, it really would be the first Alfa Romeo not built entirely in Italy, though.
- 20:23I wonder if that's part of their issue, too.
- 20:25How does the Giulia not sound Italian?
- 20:27Because we misspell it here.
- 20:29We spell it with a J, so it's all good, right?
- 20:31Okay.
- 20:31I mean, I guess Milano, the city.
- 20:34Well, they sold the Alfa Romeo Milano here in the 90s when Alfa was trying to
- 20:39Do its thing again and failed miserably.
- 20:42So it's not like the one 64 was also known as the Milano.
- 20:46So it's like, whoop dee doo.
- 20:47So maybe it's that it's tying back to a failed launch of a car.
- 20:51They don't want to do that again.
- 20:53Who knows, you know, they're superstitious.
- 20:55They're silly, you know, whatever adjective you want to use, whatever.
- 20:59But speaking of Italian cars, you may or may not be in the investment
- 21:03portfolio to buy one of these vehicles.
- 21:06But William Ross.
- 21:07from the Ferrari marketplace who has become part of the motoring podcast
- 21:11network shares his views most recently on the subtle differences between the
- 21:16550 Maranello and the Ferrari 575.
- 21:20And it is a deep dive.
- 21:22It is encyclopedic.
- 21:24William is a wealth of information.
- 21:26I found it fascinating and I actually learned a lot.
- 21:29Now, if I go to a car show or if I go to car week and I see one
- 21:32of these, I might more readily be able to tell the difference
- 21:36between the two at first glance.
- 21:37And he points out some things even cosmetically that I thought were really
- 21:41interesting and things to look for.
- 21:42It's one of my favorite Ferraris ever.
- 21:44Oh, well, I know.
- 21:44And that's why I bring it up.
- 21:45Such a beautiful car.
- 21:46Absolutely.
- 21:47And you know, one of the things that got me talking about the styling, because
- 21:51the 575 and 550 aren't that different.
- 21:53It came down to like little things, like, like you mentioned before,
- 21:56like the little turn indicators.
- 21:58But also like the fog lights, just these little changes that they made.
- 22:02And that's what made the difference.
- 22:04Now, obviously the five 75, the big giveaway was the color
- 22:07matched headlights to the body that immediately is not a five 50.
- 22:11So I'm like, Oh, okay.
- 22:12That's cool.
- 22:13So there's these things to like look out for, but I'm with you as a
- 22:17front engine V12 rear drive Ferrari.
- 22:20One of the best looking cars still to this day.
- 22:23I don't, I don't think the five nine nine and some of the later
- 22:25ones are as good looking as when the five 50 hit the shelves.
- 22:29Yes.
- 22:30But what really blew my mind and I didn't know was that the five
- 22:33fifties were all manual, right?
- 22:36I was expecting certain percentages would be flappy
- 22:38paddle and all this kind of thing.
- 22:39And so he dives into all these details and then talks about buying them as an
- 22:43investment, all those kinds of things.
- 22:44So if you're interested in those cars, Check out the episode.
- 22:47It's the most recent Ferrari marketplace.
- 22:49It's on our platform while moving right along, we don't
- 22:53have any other domestic news.
- 22:55And that wasn't really domestic news either.
- 22:57Cause we talked about Italian cars owned by a conglomerate that owns American cars.
- 23:01So we're going to move right across the globe into Japanese
- 23:06and Asian domestic vehicles.
- 23:07And this next one has to be an April fool's prank because
- 23:11otherwise it is headed directly.
- 23:13Do not pass go.
- 23:14Do not collect 200 to the uncool wall.
- 23:17Thoughts on the cabriolet version of the Integra.
- 23:21Um.
- 23:22This person's probable rendering doesn't even look that bad, honestly.
- 23:26This was put out on April 1st.
- 23:28It has to be an April Fool's thing.
- 23:31There's different posts here and there.
- 23:34There's nothing definitive from Acura saying it's true.
- 23:37There's also nothing saying it's not true.
- 23:39There's no like, oh, it's just an April Fool's thing.
- 23:42This is the modern day.
- 23:45Chrysler Sebring.
- 23:47Yes.
- 23:49I see it now.
- 23:50You're right.
- 23:50Oh my God.
- 23:52That is just, but I'm still not sold on the Integra.
- 23:56You're not saying you're right.
- 23:57It's Integra.
- 23:58It that's Integra.
- 24:00It's so large.
- 24:02And so I'm like, uh, it's an accord because the Integra and the civic and
- 24:05even the civics gotten bigger and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 24:08But the other day, and I think Tonya and I were together when
- 24:11we saw this brand new Acura.
- 24:13TLX.
- 24:14Was it TLX or TSX?
- 24:16Whatever it was.
- 24:18It's got hips like a Audi RSS four or RSS six.
- 24:21Avan.
- 24:22It was low.
- 24:23It was wide.
- 24:24I don't care how long it was.
- 24:26Big wheels, you know, tinted windows.
- 24:28I was like, that is hotness right there.
- 24:31I was like, and I.
- 24:32I see that a lot about Hondas, especially the more modern ones.
- 24:35I'm like, ah, they're okay.
- 24:36Couldn't stop looking at, especially those hips that they
- 24:39put on that car, those flares.
- 24:40And I'm like, it's all factory.
- 24:42And I'm like, damn, that's a good looking car.
- 24:44So I would give that a second thought.
- 24:47If I was thinking about a sports sedan right now, I guess it is a TLX.
- 24:52I don't think they make the TSX anymore.
- 24:54No, I think they discontinued that, that whole, and then wasn't there
- 24:57an ILX for a while, which was.
- 24:59Yeah.
- 24:59The precursor to the trash.
- 25:01Yeah.
- 25:02Frickin trash.
- 25:03It was based on the civic.
- 25:04Well, skipping right along to new EVs and concepts.
- 25:07I want to call back our discussion about Fisker from last month.
- 25:10Remember how they were having issues and the ocean is having problems and all these
- 25:14recalls and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 25:16Fisker always has issues.
- 25:17That's just like their natural state.
- 25:19And the three people that bought them, I feel so bad, right?
- 25:22And again, I don't know, is this Jalopnik having some fun with us or what?
- 25:26But you're hearing about, you know, three new cars.
- 25:29And then there's an article on the other side saying Fisker is running out
- 25:32of options as all stock trading halts.
- 25:34And I'm like, wait, what the hell is going on?
- 25:37Apparently they're going to be possibly claiming bankruptcy soon.
- 25:40So, and that's just it.
- 25:41And that's where it was like.
- 25:42Wait, they're going to come out with three new cars.
- 25:44They can't get the ocean right.
- 25:46And the company's basically falling apart.
- 25:47A lot of misinformation.
- 25:49So I have a hard time believing anything that comes out in April.
- 25:52Maybe that's why it's such a slow news month because some of it's
- 25:55just so unbelievable right now.
- 25:57Well, according to Business Insider, there's four automakers
- 26:00in talks to buy them out.
- 26:01Really?
- 26:02Who's on the docket?
- 26:03General Motors is always on the docket.
- 26:04Does not indicate.
- 26:06They'll buy any losing company.
- 26:07Was that Nikola?
- 26:08Remember that one?
- 26:09Yeah.
- 26:09Oops.
- 26:10Whoopsie.
- 26:11Well, I wanted to take a moment to talk about wheels and our friends over
- 26:16at ESC Carbon have recently released pictures of the fully formed E3.
- 26:21We've been waiting a while to see, so they're able to put that into production.
- 26:25When you look at it, it's a multi spoke wheel, kind of reminiscent
- 26:27of a early 2000s, uh, wheel.
- 26:29BBS type style, like an RKRX, that kind of thing.
- 26:32And that's a cool wheel for an all one piece carbon fiber wheel.
- 26:35But it got me thinking about wheels on cars these days.
- 26:39You know, we had this whole fad for a while where as we know, Tesla
- 26:43puts the covers on some actually decent looking wheels and there's a
- 26:46lot of, I'm going to call them air quotes, interesting wheels out there,
- 26:50wheel designs out there right now.
- 26:52I kind of wanted to look at this from the other perspective
- 26:54and ask your guys opinion.
- 26:55Who do you think has the ugliest wheels on their car right now?
- 26:58Which automaker?
- 26:59Yeah, which automaker?
- 27:00All of them.
- 27:04Brad, have you seen some ugly wheels?
- 27:05Man, they just keep nailing it.
- 27:08Thousand percent ugly wheels.
- 27:09I don't know about now, but if we go back in the day, I have
- 27:14to say Those stupid double three spoke came on the SN 95 Mustangs.
- 27:20Oh yeah.
- 27:21You could always tell it was a V six Mustang because it had
- 27:25those stupid wheels on them.
- 27:27Anything three spoke is just complete track.
- 27:30Except for the steering wheel, except for the steering wheels, the drive
- 27:35from the legendary R 32 Nissan.
- 27:38Well, I was also going to say, I have a sweet spot for the three spoke.
- 27:42Not three bolt, like the smart car, the three spoke wheel from the original Viper.
- 27:46I thought those wheels look cool, but they're very nineties, right?
- 27:49They're very in period appropriate and they look good on that.
- 27:52They're very ugly.
- 27:54You're blasphemy.
- 27:55No, they're three spoke.
- 27:57Any wheels that are wrapped in tires are ugly.
- 28:01I stand by this statement.
- 28:03You know, it really grinds my gears.
- 28:05Three spoke wheels blind my ears.
- 28:09Um, maybe I'm pointing out the obvious here.
- 28:11I think the winner right now, take a look at the cars on the road.
- 28:14The new cars on the road.
- 28:15I mean, the EVs are trying some really weird stuff, whatever, but
- 28:19ugliest wheels on the road right now.
- 28:21I'm going to give the award to Kia.
- 28:23They're all heinous.
- 28:25I actually like some of them.
- 28:27Some of the wheels that come on the Telluride, I've seen some pretty wicked
- 28:30stuff and the wheels that come on the Hyundai Genesis, I know it's not Kia,
- 28:34but some of the wheels that come on the Genesis models are pretty wicked
- 28:37looking to one or two, but I think in general, the regular line of wheels that
- 28:42they're putting on like the EV six and you know, whatever that sob thing is
- 28:47that's running around, they're just all kind of funky and what everybody's doing
- 28:50right now is these sort of GTI style.
- 28:54Lag in the wind, hyperaluminum with a black inset.
- 28:59Like they're just funky looking.
- 29:01They don't look good when they're spinning.
- 29:02They don't good look when they're still, they're always a kind of dirty.
- 29:06And I'm just like, Oh, these wheels are gross.
- 29:09I get it.
- 29:10They almost look like steel wheels that they painted to make
- 29:13look like they've got spokes.
- 29:15Exactly.
- 29:15They do this for aerodynamics.
- 29:18For a million reasons.
- 29:19Yeah.
- 29:19I think we need to pay closer attention and maybe start thinking about.
- 29:23Ugly wheel ranking system like who's second place who's got the
- 29:27second ugliest wheels out there And there's some humdingers in the
- 29:30old days to use an old timey term.
- 29:32Oh my god the wheels on the aztec Oh god, complete trash.
- 29:36They had branches like little sprouting branches off the spokes Oh, they
- 29:41were awful the ronald teddy bear.
- 29:43I know there's people that love those.
- 29:44There's some those are awesome Those are fantastic.
- 29:47The daisy that they had on the beetle.
- 29:49Oh, the daisy was pretty.
- 29:51There's some winners.
- 29:52There's some winners out there for sure.
- 29:53The teddy bear was awesome though.
- 29:55Stop it.
- 29:55That was making a comeback too.
- 29:57Well, Brad, it's time we move on to lost and found your favorite section where you
- 30:01scour the internet looking for the newest old piece of junk on dealership lots.
- 30:05If I had to guess the Ford GT, I guarantee the Ford GT still out there.
- 30:10Don't give us any of these, more of these Jetta's and stuff, man.
- 30:13You got to give us cool cars.
- 30:14That's what I was going to say.
- 30:15Those are the cars that are going to still be out there.
- 30:17No max price, unless Daniel bought them.
- 30:20I don't know what he's got up at the mountain.
- 30:22Yep.
- 30:23Those two Jetta's.
- 30:24One diesel, one VR6 are still for sale at Alexandria Volkswagen.
- 30:30Nope.
- 30:31No, thank you.
- 30:32Yeah, the rest of this is trash.
- 30:33Well, I love this next one, Brad, because you know how we talked
- 30:36about Dodge Darts for so long.
- 30:38We've talked about Vipers that are still for sale.
- 30:40You can pick up an NSX or two every now and again.
- 30:43But this next one, just read the headline.
- 30:46What?
- 30:46How is that possible?
- 30:48Sold negative What the fuck?
- 30:49How do you sell a neg So they bought one back.
- 30:52So I'm guessing it was a lemon.
- 30:54I haven't read it yet.
- 30:55Well, let's bring our listeners up to speed.
- 30:57Negative one.
- 30:58Chrysler 200 last month.
- 31:00Stellantis sold negative one.
- 31:02Chrysler 200s.
- 31:03So they sold two and bought back three.
- 31:06How did they do this?
- 31:07This is brilliant.
- 31:10That is the burning question.
- 31:11How does an automaker sell a negative car?
- 31:14Maybe this is like that Karen moment where it's like they bought it.
- 31:18They drove it about 10 feet.
- 31:20They said, I need to speak to the manager.
- 31:22They sold a negative car.
- 31:24How does it want to make yourself less than zero cars?
- 31:26Maybe it's just clickbait.
- 31:27Well, it's the Autopian.
- 31:28So of course it is.
- 31:29Yeah, it's bullshit.
- 31:30Yeah.
- 31:31I think this is my April fool's thing.
- 31:33Get this trash out of here.
- 31:34Clickbait go away.
- 31:35The story is stupid.
- 31:37Well, we do have a legitimate uncool wall nominee.
- 31:41I present for your consideration the 2003 Kia Sedona GT Cabriolet.
- 31:48This was ahead of its time.
- 31:50It's a three row.
- 31:55If this came out when the Nissan Murano cross cabriolet came out, they
- 32:00would have sold Tens of them, tens of them, tens of them, they would
- 32:06have sold more than negative one.
- 32:08I can say that.
- 32:09Oh, I love the suicide doors on this too, right?
- 32:12So somebody did this in their backyard.
- 32:16How unsafe is this vehicle?
- 32:18There's some structural integrity lost in this vehicle.
- 32:22Is this an e prepared car?
- 32:23Is that what this is?
- 32:24Now you got to cut the windshield off a lemon's car.
- 32:26It's got to be, it's got to be, but you know, I really, really liked the
- 32:30fact that we went retro with this and put a hood ornament on the key.
- 32:34Poke them horns.
- 32:40Oh man, this is terrible.
- 32:42Terrible.
- 32:42I love how they mounted the hood ornament.
- 32:45They're turbo clamps.
- 32:46Yeah, they got it from Advance Auto.
- 32:48I bet they hit the steer and killed it.
- 32:51And they're like, well, what are we going to do with his horns?
- 32:53Let's mount it on the car.
- 32:54It's a Kia and the wheels are ugly.
- 32:56Am I wrong?
- 32:58Yeah, I didn't even notice the wheels.
- 33:00I have to go back to that.
- 33:00They're so ugly.
- 33:01You don't pay attention to them.
- 33:04I couldn't get past the convertible.
- 33:06What do you think, Tanya?
- 33:07Would you drive this stellar piece of automotive design?
- 33:10Yeah, I'd drive it right off the side of a cliff and jump out of it in a second.
- 33:14I love that they put.
- 33:15Music to this, R.
- 33:16Kelly's bump and grind.
- 33:18That makes it better.
- 33:19Yeah.
- 33:20I wouldn't get in this death trap.
- 33:22Well, would you get in this or our next vehicle?
- 33:25Because of its recent recalls, because we would be remiss
- 33:31if we didn't talk about.
- 33:35Before we jump into Tesla, have you noticed after 44 drive thrus that we have
- 33:41begun to really split hairs on Tesla?
- 33:44Tesla has become its own segment on the show.
- 33:47I remember when it was just, we would be remiss.
- 33:51And then it became Teslagate, and then it became stupid shit that Elon does, and
- 33:56now the Cybertruck has its own segment by itself, because it is a spectacle.
- 34:02Well, there's some other non Cybertruck stuff in here.
- 34:04Lies.
- 34:05But the Cybertruck is obviously the new, quote, hotness, so it's top of mind.
- 34:11Finally, after 16, 000 years, it's in production.
- 34:1716 minutes after being in production.
- 34:19Oh my God.
- 34:20It's already recalled.
- 34:23Oh my God, this is so fucking stupid.
- 34:27And you know, it's like a silly recall.
- 34:29I mean, it's a serious thing, but it's also silly at the same time.
- 34:33When we've gone through this, we've seen this before.
- 34:36It's the reason why.
- 34:38All cars now have the little clips on the floor mats.
- 34:42It's because unfortunately Toyota had to learn this painful lesson of what can
- 34:46happen in the footwell if something lodges and gets the accelerator pedal stuck.
- 34:53The car keeps accelerating.
- 34:54But Tesla marches to the beat of their own drum.
- 34:57Just want to point out the Germans had carpet clips in the nineties.
- 35:01It's not new.
- 35:01Yes.
- 35:03But it wasn't until there was a problem.
- 35:05Yeah, but their carpet, their carpet clips cost 15, 000.
- 35:09Well, it's the little nubs underneath the carpet that have been, you know,
- 35:13solidly holding carpet in place for ages.
- 35:15They're bolted in from underneath the car.
- 35:18And then the only way to get them out is engine out.
- 35:20Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 35:21Service position for your format is engine out.
- 35:23Well, in a beetle, yes.
- 35:24Everything is engine out in a beetle.
- 35:26Well, the sad thing is you'd think that the little things like this.
- 35:31And this isn't a format issue yet.
- 35:34If this is worse, this is much worse.
- 35:36No, this is an accelerator pedal falling off.
- 35:38It's not the whole pedal though.
- 35:40Just the cover, just the slide on cover.
- 35:43And apparently it's a glue issue, but the glue, the temperature, I think
- 35:49something, I don't even remember.
- 35:51Elmer's that's what's wrong.
- 35:54Yes.
- 35:55They left home Depot.
- 35:56Cause shit was too expensive.
- 35:58They went to Target and bought Elmer's from the school supply section, and
- 36:03then they're using that on this pedal.
- 36:05It was back to school sales at the beginning of the year.
- 36:08It was discount, no tax on the glue.
- 36:12Yeah, they bought out the entire, like, Southwest region.
- 36:16It literally says on the bottle, Elmer's Blue All.
- 36:21It's pretty straightforward.
- 36:22It glues all right.
- 36:23Barely not your, whatever this accelerator pedal is even made of.
- 36:27I don't even know.
- 36:28Probably plastic, maybe a little bit of stainless steel left
- 36:32over pieces that they reformed.
- 36:34There's no wood in there.
- 36:34No wood in this one.
- 36:36I know I read somewhere that they were attributing it to in the
- 36:40production line, something with the temperature, the adhesive wasn't right.
- 36:44And then, so it didn't set or something.
- 36:47So basically when you're mashing down the accelerator pedal, you end up
- 36:51sliding the cover off and then it jams into what would be, hold on a second.
- 36:57What kind of troglodyte.
- 36:59It's pressing the accelerator pedal like Donkey Kong.
- 37:03Hey, hey, hey, some of us have big feet and we can't control it.
- 37:08No, no, no.
- 37:09Okay, because to the point of the Toyota incident, I am using the inappropriate
- 37:14rubber floor mats in one of my vehicles.
- 37:17Meaning that they don't clip in to the clips, and I am constantly
- 37:22actually pulling the floor mat back sometimes while I'm driving just
- 37:26by virtue of my feet being there.
- 37:28I'm not even doing anything, but by virtue of my feet being
- 37:31on top of it, there's enough.
- 37:32I'm not pressing down on it, but it does slide forward constantly.
- 37:36So I could see.
- 37:37that a loose little bullshit cover on the pedal, especially it's the type
- 37:41of pedal that's on the floor, then you kind of have that weird motion
- 37:46of you making your foot go up anyway.
- 37:48So I think it would be easy to have that cover come off and then it jams
- 37:52into what would be the transmission tunnel if it had one, right?
- 37:55So that center console piece like jams in there and it keeps Accelerator
- 38:00depressed and somebody apparently had it happen to them and they hit a pole.
- 38:04I thought they called that ludicrous mode.
- 38:07I don't know if the cyber truck has ludicrous mode, but that
- 38:10was ludicrous to have happened.
- 38:11Well, I love the fix.
- 38:13Can we get to the fix?
- 38:14The fix.
- 38:15Is on par with everything, right?
- 38:18I mean, I personally would love to spend 100, 000 on a car to have
- 38:22the glue not set correctly and then have the fix be a fricking rivet.
- 38:27I would like to point out, I did research just like the Model Y.
- 38:31You can go to your local Home Depot, aisle 13, bay 26 and buy a packet
- 38:38of rivets for like a couple dollars.
- 38:41Home Depot!
- 38:41Does a rivet work?
- 38:43Sure.
- 38:44Is it aesthetically pleasing anymore?
- 38:46I mean, not to say that it was to begin with without the rivet.
- 38:49The rivet could be an improvement.
- 38:50I don't know.
- 38:51Or for the course with the Cybertruck, but you know.
- 38:53You just spent a hundred thousand dollars on a car and
- 38:56that's how they're gonna fix it?
- 38:58They're just gonna be like, oh yeah.
- 39:00I mean, not to open this can of worms again, but this is what I keep saying.
- 39:03Everybody oohs and ahs over these vehicles.
- 39:06And the.
- 39:07Build quality is variable from car to car, and it is not on par with
- 39:13the hundred year old manufacturers.
- 39:15Pick one.
- 39:15Chevy, Ford, Fiat, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche.
- 39:19It doesn't matter.
- 39:20You can't get these wet.
- 39:21Let's talk about build quality.
- 39:23Jesus.
- 39:24So they keep focusing on car washes or washing your car.
- 39:28But I'm like, so what happens when it rains and the car gets wet?
- 39:32It's shorting out the electronics temporarily.
- 39:35And you gotta like wait hours for it to reboot.
- 39:38Doesn't rain that often in California where they build the Cybertruck?
- 39:41Well, no, they built it in Austin, didn't they?
- 39:44Again, does it rain in Austin?
- 39:45Yes, it rains in Texas.
- 39:47Lies, lies, fake news.
- 39:50In the hill country, actually, where it's quite green, they do get some water.
- 39:54Lies!
- 39:55And when the hurricanes come through, they get the remnants of the rain from those.
- 39:59At any rate, I couldn't find it.
- 40:00I thought I saw something going into the whole car wash thing.
- 40:03Where it's like, don't take it to the car wash.
- 40:06And make sure you take it to the car wash that it has to be some sort of
- 40:09like, no drive mode or something.
- 40:11And it basically like, shuts down.
- 40:13It like, locks the charge port.
- 40:15It disengages.
- 40:17It disengages.
- 40:17The wipers apparently like what is what and then it like locks
- 40:22the doors and all this stuff and then there's like a role mode.
- 40:25So it's distant.
- 40:26I don't know.
- 40:26Anyway, but the article was a guy I think who washed out the bed and
- 40:31then he ended up like bricking the truck for a while and turned back on.
- 40:35And I thought I saw something going into that.
- 40:38Where they showed, I guess water was going under the bed somehow
- 40:41and then getting like stuck in like frame rails or something like that.
- 40:44And then I guess whatever, wiring maybe?
- 40:47I don't know, don't quote me.
- 40:48I saw it briefly and I didn't, I closed it and I don't remember
- 40:51how to find the article again.
- 40:52But I'm just like, that's wild!
- 40:54To your point, it's like, There's so many other cars on the road that can get wet.
- 41:00It's not a problem.
- 41:01Like, I think we've figured out how to send a car through a car wash
- 41:05and not have it be catastrophic.
- 41:08What again?
- 41:10You spent a hundred thousand dollars on a car that you can't get wet.
- 41:14You can't drive after men like, Oh, is it a Gremlin?
- 41:20You don't, you don't.
- 41:21Get it wet after midnight and not the AMC.
- 41:23Yeah.
- 41:23The eighties movie, the gremlin.
- 41:25Oh my God.
- 41:26Two is taking their cyber truck to the car wash though, because
- 41:29do you just wash stainless steel?
- 41:31I thought you just kind of wipe it down with a diaper or something.
- 41:34Well, no.
- 41:35So if you go on Tesla's website, there's a whole like.
- 41:38Page scrolling of how to clean the exterior of the thing.
- 41:43And it's like, don't use this.
- 41:44Don't use that.
- 41:46Don't do it in the sunlight.
- 41:47Don't do it after you've eaten.
- 41:49Wait 30 minutes.
- 41:56You can only do it on the day of the full moon.
- 41:59In Feb tober.
- 42:01Yeah.
- 42:01Like what?
- 42:02There's like wild notes in here too.
- 42:04And this is.
- 42:05From the Tesla website.
- 42:06Okay.
- 42:06This is legit stuff.
- 42:08Don't use alcohol on the headlights.
- 42:10I'm like, why?
- 42:11What are the headlights made out of?
- 42:13Alcohol evaporate.
- 42:14Because your beer will rust the stainless steel.
- 42:16Ah, okay.
- 42:17Wrong alcohol.
- 42:18There was also a thing in here that was like, Oh, if I could find it again,
- 42:21it was like, yeah, yeah, here it is.
- 42:23Do not aim water hoses.
- 42:25Okay, so like if you're washing your car and you have the garden hose, right?
- 42:28It's like, don't aim the water hose directly at the windows.
- 42:31Wait, aren't these those indestructible bulletproof things?
- 42:34Windows?
- 42:34I can't aim a garden hose at?
- 42:38Like what?
- 42:39Now I don't think it's the glass itself because then it's
- 42:42The door or the hood seals.
- 42:44I think they leak.
- 42:45So don't get it wet, basically.
- 42:47There's a higher probability of Apex seals in an RX 7 sealing better than
- 42:53those window seals in the Cybertruck.
- 42:56Apparently.
- 42:57And then it killed me at one of the things, like, the recommended way to,
- 43:00like, to clean the stainless steel.
- 43:02Again, this is from Tesla.
- 43:05Unreal.
- 43:05I know you've written some articles about how to clean your car,
- 43:09and we've had the wax people on.
- 43:11I feel like even if you're not the most into detailing, you know this.
- 43:17And given it's stainless steel.
- 43:19It said that you use a circular motion.
- 43:22And I'm like, have you ever cleaned a stainless steel pot?
- 43:29If you have anything abrasive, a circular motion.
- 43:33Oh my God.
- 43:34I mean, even on a painted car, you don't really want to use a circular motion
- 43:38in case there's something gritty there because you will leave swirl marks.
- 43:42You always go.
- 43:44Quote unquote with the grain, so it's less noticeable.
- 43:49Oh my God.
- 43:51You know, since we're talking about cleaning, I included
- 43:54an additional article here.
- 43:56It goes back to the, you know, why the trucks are rusting because it's
- 43:58from February and it's not about that.
- 44:00I included it because I wanted you guys to see these pictures.
- 44:03I don't know if somebody urinated on this vehicle, vomited on this vehicle or what.
- 44:09But this is why they look terrible.
- 44:12Like, all the pictures in this article from Wired, oh my
- 44:16god, this thing looks so bad.
- 44:18Awful.
- 44:19Oh yeah, no, no, no.
- 44:20Absolutely awful.
- 44:21It looks like your appliance is in your like, this was the first thing I said.
- 44:24Do you not know when you have water splashing, like, the front
- 44:28of the dishwasher or your stove?
- 44:30Because it happens, people.
- 44:32You go reach for the towel that's either hanging on your dishwasher
- 44:34or, you know, bar or on the stove.
- 44:37Oven door bar.
- 44:38Water hits the surface and it looks like garbage after two seconds.
- 44:42I will say this.
- 44:43Now, this is an argument for something that I just recently tested.
- 44:46So if you go back into the April catalog, you'll see that Don from Garage Style
- 44:50and I did an episode with Dan Williams from Owner's Pride and their Eco Wash.
- 44:56Is designed for low water conditions and all this kind of stuff.
- 45:00And I was like, you know, I'm going to try it until I understand it and get a bottle
- 45:04and read it and kind of mess with it.
- 45:06I'm not going to really understand how it works.
- 45:07I tell you what, I think that soap is perfect for the Cybertruck.
- 45:11And here's why.
- 45:12I did it on two different vehicles and I was absolutely astounded by the results.
- 45:16Literally a capful, and I'm talking about like a Pepsi bottle capful
- 45:21that you would get on like, you know, out of the 7 Eleven case, full of
- 45:24this soap to three gallons of water.
- 45:26Rinse the car if you want, don't, it doesn't matter how it comes out the same.
- 45:31I washed our van and I washed the Jeep.
- 45:34using the eco wash with only three gallons of water.
- 45:36I didn't rinse the car before, did the whole thing, used up all
- 45:40three gallons of water that I had, didn't rinse it afterward.
- 45:42It looked as clean as if I had done it the traditional way or went to the car wash.
- 45:47Unbelievably good.
- 45:48One of those things that until I tried it, I wasn't convinced, but
- 45:52in the case of the Cybertruck, I could see something like eco wash.
- 45:56being perfect for it.
- 45:57There is a section on waterless wash.
- 46:00You got a hand wash using a non ionic pH neutral waterless wash with
- 46:05a high quality microfiber towel.
- 46:07It sounds like that waterless shampoo.
- 46:09And I was thinking the same thing again, three gallons of
- 46:12water to a cap full of soap.
- 46:13I did both cars, three gallons a piece.
- 46:16But I was thinking about it.
- 46:17If you're in a situation in California where water conservation is important,
- 46:20you know, they have drought conditions.
- 46:21Don't water your lawn.
- 46:23Don't use a car wash.
- 46:24The eco wash is perfect.
- 46:25But then obviously taking it to the next logical conclusion, if you really can't
- 46:29get the cyber truck wet, sort of like washing a cat, I suppose this is perfect.
- 46:34This is something I would recommend in all seriousness to cyber truck owners to use.
- 46:40I recommend getting rid of the truck.
- 46:42Or you could just.
- 46:43Spot clean using a glass cleaner and microfiber cloth.
- 46:47Spray the glass cleaner and wipe in a zigzag motion.
- 46:51Oh my god.
- 46:52So many rules with this truck.
- 46:57It's wild.
- 46:57And basically this and the other rules are immediately clean the surface.
- 47:01So bird poop's on it.
- 47:03Pull over.
- 47:05Get your glass cleaner and zigzag it off.
- 47:08Don't want to create scratches because it's going to scratch.
- 47:10Now there is a solution to this problem.
- 47:12Don't buy a cycle.
- 47:13It's called paint.
- 47:14It's called the 5, 000 clear coat.
- 47:17Oh my god.
- 47:18Why?
- 47:19It's not standard.
- 47:20You can't rattle can it?
- 47:22You could, why not?
- 47:22You could paint it.
- 47:23Although it might short out.
- 47:25I don't know what happens with the paint.
- 47:28Well, I would say paint over the glass too, just seal
- 47:30everything in and call it a day.
- 47:33Prevent any future leaks.
- 47:34I think the best solution is to trade your Cybertruck in for a Rivian.
- 47:38A Fisker.
- 47:39I don't know.
- 47:39But in other non Cybertruck related news, do you remember when they talked about
- 47:43how we're going to make the people's car?
- 47:45Let me guess.
- 47:46The Tesla 2.
- 47:47The Model 2 at 25, 000 for everyone.
- 47:51Electric Chargers for all.
- 47:54Lies.
- 47:55In fact, it is lies.
- 47:58Because now they're basically apparently abandoning it or quote
- 48:01putting it on the back burner.
- 48:03That's code for we're not doing it anymore.
- 48:05In order to focus on their robo taxis using the same platform.
- 48:11Okay, yeah, whatever, sure.
- 48:14Meanwhile, the price of all the rest of the Teslas went up again,
- 48:16and next month they'll put them on sale and then they'll jack them back
- 48:18up again and all that hokey pokey.
- 48:20Well, they are going through something at the moment because they just laid
- 48:27off 10 percent of their global staff.
- 48:29That hurts.
- 48:30The worst is, and there's quite a lot of, I think it's like 14, 000 people.
- 48:35Wow.
- 48:35Lot of people.
- 48:37And because it's Elon and he's, I'm sorry, total ass hat.
- 48:41I wouldn't want to be under him.
- 48:44Some people found out that they had been laid off when they arrived at
- 48:47work, and their badge didn't work.
- 48:49Wow, that is a bold move, Cotton.
- 48:53And got escorted away.
- 48:55That's how you let you're an asshole.
- 48:57But we already knew this when COVID happened and the whole you can work
- 49:01from home and then you can't and then the ultimatums that these people that
- 49:04move they had to move back and all this crap that he did and then they
- 49:07handled it like a total jerk, you know, in the communications with the people.
- 49:11I'm like, okay, I'm not surprised by this, but what a D move.
- 49:15Can you imagine?
- 49:16Suddenly it's like what?
- 49:17There's a layoff?
- 49:18And it's me?
- 49:20What?
- 49:20Yeah, I could see, yeah, I could see you coming up to the door
- 49:23with your co worker, talking.
- 49:24It was like, man, did you hear about those layoffs?
- 49:26Man, I'm so glad that I still have my job.
- 49:29Hey, that's weird.
- 49:30My badge doesn't work.
- 49:30Hey, try yours.
- 49:31Does your badge work?
- 49:32Oh, yours works.
- 49:33Oh, just let, let me in.
- 49:34Oh, they won't let the, why, why can't I get no tailgating?
- 49:43Tesla's like the weirdest reality television show I've ever seen.
- 49:46It just every day, something it's weird.
- 49:49It's all two sided too.
- 49:51It's like, Oh, record sales.
- 49:53We're selling so many.
- 49:54We've built so many.
- 49:55And then you lay off all your people and then you're
- 49:57lowering prices and your stock.
- 49:58It's going down, but that's because you're doing so well.
- 50:01I, I don't understand.
- 50:02It's not usually in good times of economic prosperity that people go, you know what?
- 50:06Let's just cut 10 percent of the workforce for funsies.
- 50:08Although who knows, maybe that is what happens.
- 50:11He's probably sitting around in a bar with his executive buddies.
- 50:13Just like, you know, it'd be really good.
- 50:15You know how we could like really help the bottom line.
- 50:18You know, they say that like HR and salary and stuff is your worst expense.
- 50:22Let's just cut half or 10 percent of the workforce.
- 50:25Oh, yeah, that sounds great.
- 50:26Let's do it.
- 50:27Let's do it.
- 50:28The end.
- 50:28I mean, I feel bad for those people.
- 50:29Of course.
- 50:30Hopefully, they're able to move on to something bigger and better.
- 50:33Well, you have, once again, successfully lowered my expectations.
- 50:37Lowered expectations.
- 50:39Oh my god.
- 50:44I'm watching this video, and it's pretty good.
- 50:46Couldn't do this with a Cybertruck.
- 50:48Nope, you sure couldn't.
- 50:49And since we're talking about washing cars, I thought this was appropriate.
- 50:53This is a great April Fool's prank.
- 50:55She's getting pissed.
- 50:58So we have a link in the show notes to this.
- 50:59It's a video of these guys.
- 51:01Basically just messing with this lady who's washing her Range Rover
- 51:05at a self car wash place and they keep throwing milk on the car and she
- 51:08thinks some birds shitting all over it.
- 51:10I mean, is it milk?
- 51:12It's milk.
- 51:12Yeah, it is a riot busted out laughing watching this thing.
- 51:16And normally I don't go for this kind of stuff.
- 51:18I was like, Oh, this is lame, whatever.
- 51:20But I actually thought this was super funny.
- 51:22I get it now why they have to.
- 51:24Because my cars are old, I don't have all this fancy technology.
- 51:27I didn't think about it on the Cybertruck.
- 51:29Why they have to disengage the wiper blades, because it probably, because
- 51:32just like her Range Rover here, she keeps setting the windshield wipers off.
- 51:36It's got the auto sensing windshield wipers.
- 51:39The Cybertruck could probably blow the whole thing up.
- 51:42I was wondering what would happen if you poured milk on a Cybertruck.
- 51:45Would it just melt?
- 51:46You'd have to wipe it real quick to not mess up the stainless steel.
- 51:50How gross would that look?
- 51:52It would look like vomit.
- 51:54Well, switching gears, I got to ask you guys one more time.
- 51:58No.
- 51:58Did y'all watch the Ferrari movie?
- 52:00Not yet.
- 52:01There's a Ferrari movie?
- 52:02Oh, man.
- 52:03All right.
- 52:04So here's the plan.
- 52:05You guys aren't going to watch it.
- 52:06You're not going to take it seriously.
- 52:07I'm going to watch it.
- 52:09You're not going to answer my question.
- 52:10Who is this movie about?
- 52:11I'm going to take it to higher authorities.
- 52:13You know what I'm going to do?
- 52:13I'm going to call up John Somers, the motoring historian, maybe
- 52:16my friend, William Ross, and see if we can review this movie.
- 52:19How about that?
- 52:20Oh, I didn't know you wanted to review it in the middle of this segment.
- 52:23I wanted your opinion.
- 52:25That's good enough.
- 52:26Okay.
- 52:26Well then we have homework for the next month.
- 52:29Speaking of Ferraris.
- 52:30This could have gone anywhere.
- 52:31This could have been in Stellantis News.
- 52:33This could be Florida Man.
- 52:35But I think it finds its home here in Lowered Expectations.
- 52:37I mean, this is a brickin tragedy.
- 52:39Right?
- 52:40This is a crime.
- 52:41This is a capital crime.
- 52:42The guy should be thrown in jail.
- 52:45Headline reads, not that a headline has never started this
- 52:48way before, dealership employee.
- 52:5024 year old.
- 52:51Dealer employee, I repeat.
- 52:53Dealership employee reportedly wrecks a Ferrari F 40 in a tunnel.
- 52:59Who in their right mind gives the keys to a $3 million low production Ferrari.
- 53:08To a 24 year old.
- 53:09Lawrence Stroll.
- 53:10Yeah.
- 53:11I don't care that the driving laws in Europe are stricter and
- 53:14more this and more that than they are here in the United States.
- 53:17Nobody in their right mind is going to give a 20 year old, unless
- 53:20they're a YouTuber, that can afford the car, the keys to an F 150.
- 53:2440!
- 53:25I mean, come on!
- 53:26Imagine a dude's like, Hell yeah, I'm gonna let it rip!
- 53:29I'm gonna hear it through the tunnel!
- 53:31Meanwhile, it stepped out on him, didn't know what the hell to do with
- 53:33500 horsepower in a car that weighs nothing, and put it in the wall.
- 53:38Sounded hella good!
- 53:39For the gram.
- 53:41Yeah.
- 53:42This is criminal because this car is trashed.
- 53:44They say they're going to repair it.
- 53:46At whose expense?
- 53:47The deal is sure.
- 53:47They must have a massive insurance policy on it.
- 53:50He had to have spun.
- 53:51Look at how it bent the door.
- 53:53Remember this is a carbon Kevlar tub.
- 53:55The whole car is like specialty, you know, whatever the rear wheel is
- 53:59cocked in like reverse stance, bro.
- 54:02He must've been going quick.
- 54:04And he spun and hit hard.
- 54:05This car is no longer three million dollars.
- 54:08No, this car is 30 bucks.
- 54:10So what the dealership is going to have to pay a lot more than
- 54:13just fixing the car, they're going to have to make this guy whole.
- 54:16It's going to cost them the value of the car to rebuild this.
- 54:19And I love the comments.
- 54:21V8 Ferrari in the tunnel.
- 54:22Who could resist?
- 54:23I'm like, okay, man, let's be a little bit more mature about this for a second.
- 54:27Wait a minute.
- 54:27You're looking at the comments and expecting maturity.
- 54:30Your first mistake.
- 54:32I know I couldn't help but scroll down.
- 54:34It's that morbid curiosity.
- 54:36You know, it's like, what are the trolls saying?
- 54:39Here's another question.
- 54:40So this car was going to go for sale or something, right?
- 54:44It's three plus million dollars.
- 54:47Why are you driving it to the trailer?
- 54:50You make a very good point, Tanya.
- 54:52Even in Europe, this car would have been on the back of a
- 54:54lorry in a closed compartment, completely cleaned, ready to go.
- 54:58Yeah.
- 55:00Something's fishy here.
- 55:01Maybe this was an insurance payout deal.
- 55:03You know, like the guy who drove the Veyron into the, in the lake.
- 55:07Yeah.
- 55:07And the Everglades.
- 55:08I'm not saying it was that, I mean, that's all just conjecture, but to
- 55:12your point, yeah, if this car was being transported to auction in the States,
- 55:16this would have been in a closed vehicle.
- 55:18Under lock and key.
- 55:20You would never want to risk this happening or somebody
- 55:22else hitting you, right?
- 55:24Yeah.
- 55:24It's wild.
- 55:25Unless he stole it and went for a joyride.
- 55:27I don't know.
- 55:28Could be.
- 55:28Un reeking believable is what it is.
- 55:30So another one bites the dust, unfortunately.
- 55:33We're gonna fix it.
- 55:34I got to bring up this next thing because it has come up on our
- 55:37discord is come up in conversation.
- 55:39I have decided there's a new category of car and it's called
- 55:43the ultimate highway hooptie.
- 55:45And maybe this is a phenomena on the east coast.
- 55:48Let me correct me if I'm wrong.
- 55:49You've driven the beltways.
- 55:50You've been around the metropolitan areas.
- 55:52And my wife pointed this out to me.
- 55:54Are all the hoopties on the beltway, always a Nissan.
- 55:57There's actually a montage video.
- 55:59It's amazing.
- 56:02Oopty Nissan's on the byways and they're all like flapping panels and just hoods.
- 56:08They're bent and crab walking.
- 56:10They're garbage.
- 56:11Every Nissan is just an Ultima.
- 56:12It's like, it's the regular, you have the regular Ultima.
- 56:17Tima, you've got the Altima, the pickup truck, you've got the HVAC in
- 56:22Altima, , you've got the Paul Walker Altima, you've got the Jarret's Altima,
- 56:29They're all trash.
- 56:30It's sort of like the PT Cruiser spotting.
- 56:33And then there's those, the other Camry corners where every Camry has a bashed in
- 56:37left rear bumper, you know, kind of thing.
- 56:39And to your point, it seems to be ultimas more than anything, maybe.
- 56:42'cause that's the only car that Nissan actually sells these days.
- 56:44But they're all trash.
- 56:47We spotted two on the road the other day.
- 56:49They're still out there.
- 56:50Look at that underlying quality.
- 56:53They're still out there.
- 56:55Such rugged, rugged, they are abused and they're still out there.
- 57:02So they are rugged.
- 57:03They're so terrible.
- 57:05Rental car agencies won't even pick them up.
- 57:08When was the last time you saw a Sentra at like Alamo?
- 57:12No, no.
- 57:13Didn't we rent a Nissan Murano when we were in Texas?
- 57:17But that was like a decade ago.
- 57:19No, it wasn't.
- 57:20It was like 2017.
- 57:22It was 2017.
- 57:23Yeah.
- 57:23It was a long time ago.
- 57:25You are correct, sir.
- 57:26Not a decade yet, but getting close.
- 57:28I've decided.
- 57:29Ultimate Highway Hooptie spotting, we want Nissan pictures, send
- 57:33it to us on our Facebook group.
- 57:34Not only that, I've also decided, argue with me, tell me I'm wrong.
- 57:38Nissans are the people of Walmart of the highway.
- 57:42You know what's funny?
- 57:42It used to be Kia.
- 57:43Well, they had that whole USB hacker thing, right?
- 57:46Steal a Kia.
- 57:47The Highway Hooptie used to be Kia's.
- 57:49Well, I've got some rich people thangs to tell you.
- 57:53Before we get into the actual rich people thangs news that Tanya has here
- 57:57for us, I found something super cool and I gotta give mad props to Tanya.
- 58:01A little show and tell if you're watching the video version of this.
- 58:04I finally added a LMP1 Mercedes C9 to my collection and it is the gorgeous.
- 58:12This is my now prized jewel in my collection.
- 58:15Yes!
- 58:16Yeah, it's my precious.
- 58:18I gently buff it with Zyma and stuff at night.
- 58:20We stopped by this in your old neck of the woods, Brad, where your dad lives.
- 58:25There's like a toy exchange.
- 58:26They call it there in a shopping Plaza.
- 58:28And we popped in just to see what they have, because online they advertise
- 58:31like vintage toys, and I was like, Hey, let's go see if they have any model cars
- 58:34and, you know, Legos or whatever else, just to see what they have in there.
- 58:37So we happened to be in that area together.
- 58:38We stopped in and in this glass case, a bunch of just absolutely gorgeous,
- 58:43gorgeous one 18th scale model cars.
- 58:45And I got a soft spot for that size model car, you know, the nine, 10 inch cars.
- 58:49Behind me, you'll see I've got Andy Pilgrims, PF Goodwrench, number
- 58:53three, Dale Earnhardt, C5 Corvette, also picked that up at the same
- 58:56place when I picked up the Mercedes.
- 58:57In the case, he had Porsche 956, you know, Rothman's car, Steve McQueen 917,
- 59:03the Ferrari Daytona that actually sold at RM Sotheby's last year at Le Mans.
- 59:07I saw that car in person.
- 59:09He had the model of that, some muscle cars.
- 59:11There were probably about 20 cars in the case.
- 59:13And if I could have taken them all home, believe me, I would have, but
- 59:16a little bit on the pricey side.
- 59:18So I had to settle.
- 59:19I almost passed on the Mercedes again.
- 59:21I'm going to show it here because it is just so amazing.
- 59:23What's so cool about this.
- 59:25I've never bought one of these racing legends models, and this is by Exato.
- 59:30I have some auto art.
- 59:31I have some other stuff.
- 59:32That's really nice.
- 59:33This is a cut above like the materials that are used on here
- 59:37are almost watchmaker quality.
- 59:39There's little hinges with these tiny screws.
- 59:41And when you open the engine compartment, it's got wires and hoses and fittings.
- 59:46Fabrics and just unbelievable amounts of detail, actual springs in the suspension.
- 59:53And I mean, it's just really, really wild.
- 59:55I sort of guffawed at the price when he told me what he wanted for it.
- 59:58And I was like, ah, you know, well, I've spent about that for some other stuff.
- 1:00:02We negotiated because I've got the Corvette and I got some other things while
- 1:00:05I was there, so he came down on the price.
- 1:00:07Super happy to have this.
- 1:00:09It's not exactly the livery I wanted because I wanted the factory, basically
- 1:00:12Silver Arrows C9, you know, with the green patch over the brake light.
- 1:00:16This is the Yves Saint Laurent car.
- 1:00:17So it's navy blue and white.
- 1:00:19It's still absolutely gorgeous.
- 1:00:21It's super heavy too.
- 1:00:22I wanted to make sure that I got a good deal.
- 1:00:24So I went online.
- 1:00:26I want to ask you guys as our resident price guessers here on The
- 1:00:29Price is Right Rich People Fangs.
- 1:00:31How much do you think that C9 is selling for?
- 1:00:35Don't look it up on places like eBay, et cetera.
- 1:00:37If you can get it, I'm going to preface this by saying I paid a fraction of
- 1:00:42what it's worth right now, like on eBay.
- 1:00:44So I have an idea of what I think you paid.
- 1:00:47So I got to multiply that up.
- 1:00:48Okay.
- 1:00:49What do you think I paid?
- 1:00:50I think you paid about 250.
- 1:00:51I actually paid less than that.
- 1:00:53So then I think it's worth.
- 1:00:55Or people are asking on eBay, probably 1500.
- 1:00:58Ooh.
- 1:00:59Okay.
- 1:00:59You're double over.
- 1:01:00So on the high end, it's half that it's about seven 50 to 800.
- 1:01:04And on the low end, it's about six.
- 1:01:06Yeah.
- 1:01:08So I got a really, really good deal on it.
- 1:01:10Now, granted probably worth more if it had the box, but even then, what
- 1:01:14was he going to charge me for the box?
- 1:01:16I mean, come on, it's a, it's a freaking box, right?
- 1:01:18So all the cars were out of the box, but still, if I wanted to
- 1:01:21turn around and sell it, it's actually a really good investment.
- 1:01:23You know, we did that episode a while back with Patrick strong before the
- 1:01:26holidays, talking about investing in model cars and looking at the
- 1:01:29higher brands and stuff like this.
- 1:01:31This was a great opportunity because this came off an estate sale.
- 1:01:34So I'm sure he got it at a good rate.
- 1:01:36There's a decent markup there that he obviously made on the car, but
- 1:01:39little did I know bringing that home.
- 1:01:42I've made money on the car.
- 1:01:43If I decide tomorrow, you know, I want to get rid of it.
- 1:01:45So I think that's actually really kind of cool.
- 1:01:47So don't shy away from the model cars.
- 1:01:49If you're looking for an investment, I'm not saying do that instead of
- 1:01:52buying a five 50 Maranello, if you can afford it, but think about that to
- 1:01:55diversify your motor sports portfolio.
- 1:01:58You got it, my man.
- 1:01:59You got it.
- 1:02:00Super proud of this by super proud.
- 1:02:02Do they make one?
- 1:02:03That is the silver arrows livery that you, yes, it costs about the same.
- 1:02:07So the livery doesn't make a difference because you know where I'm going.
- 1:02:10If you could find one that you actually want, you could flip
- 1:02:14that car into whatever you want.
- 1:02:16Exactly.
- 1:02:17So just like real life, buying cars, flipping cars, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:02:21Meanwhile, more rich people thangs.
- 1:02:23Oh, rich people thangs.
- 1:02:25So HANU, we remember them, those futuristic looking
- 1:02:30utilitarian little bands.
- 1:02:32Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:33Their CEO is also an asshat, apparently, and spent double the
- 1:02:39annual revenue on his own private jet.
- 1:02:42Out of the company funds.
- 1:02:44That's how you do it.
- 1:02:45That's how you run a business.
- 1:02:47That's how it's done.
- 1:02:48And they expect this company to be profitable.
- 1:02:50Not at that rate.
- 1:02:51How did these people not go to jail?
- 1:02:53That's what I want to know.
- 1:02:54They do.
- 1:02:54They just go to a fancy jail.
- 1:02:56The ones with the tennis courts, right?
- 1:02:59We're at this high point.
- 1:03:01In what I call boutique manufacturers and we're seeing Fisker with problems.
- 1:03:06We have the Rivians and we have the canoes and we have all this stuff.
- 1:03:09How many of these companies are actually going to survive?
- 1:03:12Not this one.
- 1:03:13Not at this rate.
- 1:03:14That's for sure.
- 1:03:15Again, I will be amazed if even Tesla.
- 1:03:17As air quotes, good as they're doing, doesn't get absorbed
- 1:03:21by somebody in the future.
- 1:03:22And I think that's always been part of the plan, right?
- 1:03:24Is to sell patented technology, license it to somebody else to
- 1:03:28use, which is the Toyota model.
- 1:03:30Right.
- 1:03:31To your point of them being a software company now there's, and we didn't talk
- 1:03:34about it, but there's also rumblings about them licensing their full self driving BS.
- 1:03:40That's not full self driving.
- 1:03:41So they're going to sell negative one of those two, right?
- 1:03:47Oh man.
- 1:03:48Well, I guess it's time we go south and talk about alligators and beer.
- 1:04:08We're going to go south and talk about this poor man.
- 1:04:11Was he a poor mountaineer, barely keeping his family fed?
- 1:04:13No, but this poor man, he had his 2023 limited edition Dodge Charger SRT What?
- 1:04:23Apparently that's a thing.
- 1:04:24Stolen.
- 1:04:25The kicker on this was, I don't know, apparently he bought the cars and
- 1:04:29it was an homage to his late mother and all this stuff and yada yada.
- 1:04:33Well, well, well, well, pause, pause.
- 1:04:35How is a Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye jailbreak An homage to your mother.
- 1:04:42I don't know, but it was like Was his mother a trapeze
- 1:04:45artist for Cirque du Soleil?
- 1:04:47Because that's the only thing that makes sense here.
- 1:04:49Like what, what are we Well, homage might not be the right word, but
- 1:04:53he said to quote, that the main reason I got the car, Because of
- 1:04:57her to represent her again, I ask.
- 1:05:00So whatever that I don't know, but somehow a limited edition purple Dodge Charger
- 1:05:07SRT Hellcat red eye jailbreak with some vinyl graphics in the paint or something.
- 1:05:13What is on the side of the, is that our lady of Guadalupe?
- 1:05:17I think it's the statue of Liberty, maybe, or it could be.
- 1:05:20I'm not really sure.
- 1:05:21Or it's somebody, something completely different.
- 1:05:23I don't know.
- 1:05:23Is that his mother wearing a tiara?
- 1:05:25Or maybe that's a picture of his mom.
- 1:05:27Oh, I don't know.
- 1:05:28It has a mustache.
- 1:05:30It's got a goatee.
- 1:05:31That's a guy.
- 1:05:32I think that's jesus.
- 1:05:33It could be jesus in the thorn of roses on his head I don't know.
- 1:05:37There's words too.
- 1:05:38Maybe I can't tell that's not the point It's entirely the point No, no, no, no
- 1:05:44wait because the point is he got this for his mother Represent his mother
- 1:05:48i'm using the word homage Apparently this man had a deep relationship
- 1:05:53with his mother so deep that he kept the cup of her ashes In the car.
- 1:06:00They were stolen with the car.
- 1:06:02But, as he said, the person might not be right, but they had a good heart.
- 1:06:07Because they came back and they put the ashes in his mailbox, kept the
- 1:06:11car, but they returned the ashes.
- 1:06:13Thankfully, the mind's messed up.
- 1:06:16He did his due diligence and he's investigated work and he worked
- 1:06:21to preserve the evidence by using a shirt to close the lid of the
- 1:06:27container, holding the ashes.
- 1:06:31Yes.
- 1:06:32Very smart.
- 1:06:33Very smart.
- 1:06:33Mr.
- 1:06:33Carter.
- 1:06:34Okay.
- 1:06:34Colombo to have made the distinction between quote unquote, the urn.
- 1:06:40I don't know how these ashes were kept in the vehicle, but I'm going to assume
- 1:06:44that they weren't kept in the ashtray.
- 1:06:46So telling the difference between the cup holder, again, I say cup holder.
- 1:06:51They were in a Carl's jr.
- 1:06:53Cup.
- 1:06:53My point.
- 1:06:54How do you know that it wasn't just cigarettes?
- 1:06:56So what I'm saying is.
- 1:06:58Collusion to use Brad's term.
- 1:07:04This is an inside job Nobody would know unless it was one of his
- 1:07:07friends relatives or otherwise.
- 1:07:09I think this was an inside job I don't know it only happens in
- 1:07:14Florida See that's why the point of this is about the graphics on the
- 1:07:18side of the car and the homage to his mother and not About the ashes.
- 1:07:21That's what I'm saying This is ridiculous.
- 1:07:23I don't know.
- 1:07:24I'm convinced.
- 1:07:25That's like Jesus in the toast.
- 1:07:27That's what it's right there.
- 1:07:30I don't know.
- 1:07:31I can't tell.
- 1:07:31It's hard to see the angle.
- 1:07:33The picture's not good.
- 1:07:33That's a really dark purple with the black graphic.
- 1:07:37It's hard to see.
- 1:07:37Nice car.
- 1:07:38Jesus in the toast.
- 1:07:39All right.
- 1:07:40Now we can go up north middle ish of the country to the delightful
- 1:07:45Yellowstone National Park.
- 1:07:46Yogi Bear lives there.
- 1:07:48Where some sort of Karen created
- 1:07:56Karen of Yellowstone, I apologize to all the good Karens
- 1:08:01out there getting a bad rap.
- 1:08:03Apparently this woman exited her vehicle and it was an SUV, so
- 1:08:07it fits the Karen stereotype.
- 1:08:08Was it a Rage?
- 1:08:09Was it a G Wagon?
- 1:08:10No, no, it was not.
- 1:08:12I think it was a Ford.
- 1:08:13Bronco.
- 1:08:13Anyway, if you've ever been to Yellowstone, most of the areas
- 1:08:16through the national park, Yep.
- 1:08:17One lane each way, and there's really not a shoulder in anything, and
- 1:08:21there's only wilderness there, right?
- 1:08:23Preserved area.
- 1:08:24Anyway, so she decided to just, you know, park it, leave it running, because
- 1:08:28that's environmentally friendly for the National Park, and then get out to go
- 1:08:32do some National Geographic photography.
- 1:08:34No, she's not part of National Geographic.
- 1:08:36She was going to go take a picture of a little bear, because not only, A,
- 1:08:41what you don't do is leave your car running in the middle of the road.
- 1:08:45You also B, don't try to approach a bear cub because C, mama's probably around the
- 1:08:51corner and you don't want to F with her.
- 1:08:53This is you again using the Vulcan logic.
- 1:08:57I'm going to start calling you Tuvok in a minute.
- 1:08:59Bears are cuddly.
- 1:09:00They're warm.
- 1:09:02They're fuzzy.
- 1:09:03They're friendly.
- 1:09:04They have giant teeth and claws.
- 1:09:07They're hungry.
- 1:09:09We've heard other stories out of Yellowstone.
- 1:09:13You're right.
- 1:09:13We've heard about Winnie the Pooh and we've heard about the
- 1:09:16Bernstein bears, all of them.
- 1:09:19Like I've been there.
- 1:09:20I've gone through Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, all that stuff.
- 1:09:23And like the wildlife is real.
- 1:09:25The bison, they are literally there on the side of the road and you might
- 1:09:29actually have to stop for them because they're in the middle of frickin road.
- 1:09:31But you don't want to stop for them, you really want to keep going.
- 1:09:34That's all real, and the people that get out of their car to approach them, the
- 1:09:38stories of them getting gored, or like, catapulted through the air, also real.
- 1:09:43Public service announcement!
- 1:09:44Do not approach the wildlife!
- 1:09:46Do not feed the wildlife!
- 1:09:47Stay in your vehicle at all times.
- 1:09:49Have you seen Jurassic Park?
- 1:09:50Don't get out of the Jeep.
- 1:09:53Please win that Darwin award.
- 1:09:55Thin the herd, come on.
- 1:09:57Survival of the fittest.
- 1:09:58If these people are stupid enough to get out of their car and get
- 1:10:00killed by a wild animal, then Nothing happened with the animal or anything.
- 1:10:04What she did was apparently It was high season, so it caused a huge backup of
- 1:10:08people that just sat there behind her.
- 1:10:11I'm surprised that somebody with the thing running didn't just move the
- 1:10:15car out of the way and just park it down in the ditch and keep going.
- 1:10:19This is like the Church of Petrelhead.
- 1:10:21Can I get a do doy?
- 1:10:22It's like an amen.
- 1:10:23Can I get a do doy?
- 1:10:24I mean, it's one thing if it, like, she took the keys with
- 1:10:26her, but the thing's running?
- 1:10:28Like jump in, just push it off a cliff.
- 1:10:30Then Karen would call the cops and accuse you of grand theft auto.
- 1:10:34Yes, a hundred percent.
- 1:10:35Just make sure the ashes aren't in it.
- 1:10:37I'd like to speak to the manager.
- 1:10:38What you do is you get in it.
- 1:10:40You don't actually get fully in it.
- 1:10:42You put the emergency brake down and you put it in neutral and you let it go.
- 1:10:48Wherever it goes, it goes.
- 1:10:50Not full brick move.
- 1:10:52Ferris Bueller on the accelerator.
- 1:10:56No, you can claim, Oh, she, she must've left it in neutral.
- 1:10:59I don't know what happened, Ossifer.
- 1:11:00Yeah, that's true.
- 1:11:01Well, it's time we go behind the pitfall and talk about British sports news.
- 1:11:06And we have some NASCAR news this time.
- 1:11:08You know, it's one of these moments where truth is stranger than fiction.
- 1:11:13But it's not surprising.
- 1:11:14Not at all.
- 1:11:16Headline reads, Moonshine Cave found underneath North Wilkesboro Speedway
- 1:11:21grandstands, track officials say.
- 1:11:23I mean, sure.
- 1:11:24I mean, there's nothing more NASCAR than this story.
- 1:11:27Exactly.
- 1:11:28700 square foot still shine operation that was basically buried under
- 1:11:34these Submit grandstands for decades.
- 1:11:38I think it's a pretty cool find.
- 1:11:39It is kind of cool.
- 1:11:41I'm sure Dale Earnhardt Jr.
- 1:11:42will do something on Lost Speedways about it soon enough.
- 1:11:44But the point is, it does hearken back to stock car racing's original history.
- 1:11:49We had Buzz McKim give a presentation about this, about the ties back to
- 1:11:53moonshining and the origin of NASCAR.
- 1:11:56It goes back and forth.
- 1:11:57The races on the beach at Daytona, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:12:00You know, there's some revisionist history happening here where it's like,
- 1:12:02well, we don't want to talk about the Shiner days and all this kind of thing.
- 1:12:05But like you guys, I think this is kind of cool to see.
- 1:12:08I wonder how many other NASCAR tracks might have hidden treasures like this.
- 1:12:13I recently discovered a story about another track.
- 1:12:16Where it was said that at one point, I think it was Henry Ford had
- 1:12:20commissioned, you know, the celebration for like 4th of July, the race, they
- 1:12:23had stored fireworks under there.
- 1:12:25And thank God it was made out of cement because somebody threw a cigarette
- 1:12:28that was still like, sort of lit and it sell the fireworks off and
- 1:12:32like exploded underneath the cement.
- 1:12:34I mean, this was way back in like the 1910s, 1920s kind of thing.
- 1:12:37So I mean, crazy, crazy stuff like this.
- 1:12:40To your point, not a surprise that there's a still under there or, you
- 1:12:45know, illegal alcohol production facility, let's call it that.
- 1:12:48I mean, cool fines, right?
- 1:12:50Lost history.
- 1:12:51Speaking of things that are lost, I don't know about you guys.
- 1:12:54I don't often get the time to watch the craftsman truck series.
- 1:12:57But you had to have heard about this race at Coda quote, the
- 1:13:00driver drove the wheels off of it.
- 1:13:05Mechanical failure.
- 1:13:06That is a big one.
- 1:13:07Basically the whole rear end of the truck fell off and went into the middle of the
- 1:13:11track as the car careened into the corner.
- 1:13:13So truth sometimes is stranger than fiction.
- 1:13:16So if you watch that race and you saw it.
- 1:13:19Maybe tell us about the details.
- 1:13:20I still have to go back and watch the replay, but I found it extremely amusing.
- 1:13:24And, you know, unfortunately stuff happens, stuff breaks, but to have a
- 1:13:27whole rear differential axle, it looks like they just purposely took it off.
- 1:13:32The truck, that's a big failure.
- 1:13:34So somebody, yeah, someone's getting fired.
- 1:13:37Exactly.
- 1:13:38Well, let's switch to open wheel racing for a little bit.
- 1:13:40Would this be considered open wheel?
- 1:13:43You know, that's a good one.
- 1:13:44That's very true.
- 1:13:45So before we get deep into IndyCar and Formula 1, did you guys hear about
- 1:13:50the debut of the F1 Arcade in Boston?
- 1:13:54No, I had not heard of that.
- 1:13:56I've seen stuff about it on Instagram and everything, but I never
- 1:13:58really paid much attention to it.
- 1:14:00So I thought it was going to be maybe an extension of F1 Boston,
- 1:14:03if you guys remember that.
- 1:14:04That's the go kart track that became really, really famous.
- 1:14:07Back in the early 2000s in Boston, we've been there a bunch of times.
- 1:14:11It's a heck of a lot of fun.
- 1:14:12They got multiple courses.
- 1:14:14It's really big for indoor complicated, multiple floors, all this kind of stuff.
- 1:14:18And so I was thinking, Oh, they finally expanded, you know,
- 1:14:20trying to be back in the news.
- 1:14:21Well, no downtown Boston F1 arcade.
- 1:14:24It's a bar Dave and busters.
- 1:14:26Yeah, it's me.
- 1:14:26Yeah, exactly.
- 1:14:27Formula one themed simulators.
- 1:14:29So the Toto and Christians.
- 1:14:31Toto and Christians, exactly.
- 1:14:32I had some friends that are in the sim business kind of check
- 1:14:35out these videos that are out.
- 1:14:36I happened upon the one from Two Girls, One Formula outside of their kind of
- 1:14:40preliminary stuff of getting into Boston.
- 1:14:42They did an interesting tour of the facility.
- 1:14:44So I watched that.
- 1:14:45It was a great way to digest it in quick order and get a feel for, like you said,
- 1:14:48the Dave and Busters of Formula One.
- 1:14:50So I think if I was in town, I would check it out.
- 1:14:52What about you guys?
- 1:14:53I would, but it'd probably be a ridiculous amount of people.
- 1:14:56Maybe in a little while when things calm down.
- 1:14:58Definitely, I would check it out the next time I'm in Boston.
- 1:15:01IndyCar has been at the forefront of safety in open wheel racing.
- 1:15:06They were the first ones to kind of introduce the halo
- 1:15:08and some of the other stuff.
- 1:15:09And, you know, we could debate, uh, Formula One, the pinnacle of
- 1:15:12technology, but really IndyCar sort of adopted that in Formula One.
- 1:15:15Came later IndyCar changed to the windscreen and halo setup, which
- 1:15:19they've used for the longest time.
- 1:15:20And now it looks like they're getting a whole new windscreen
- 1:15:23setup for it looks like next season.
- 1:15:25So they're making additional modifications to the IndyCars.
- 1:15:29And I guess that will translate through open wheel racing, probably into
- 1:15:33formula one here in the near future.
- 1:15:35Possibly.
- 1:15:35So IndyCar is not governed by the FIA, is it?
- 1:15:39No, it is not.
- 1:15:40I don't know that Formula One would adopt this similar.
- 1:15:43Why are they making this change?
- 1:15:46Well, I think it has a lot to do with the episode that we did with Penske's
- 1:15:50aerodynamicist, Lauren Sullivan.
- 1:15:52And so because of the speeds that are sustained at the Indy 500 and some
- 1:15:57of these other oval events that they do, They need to find every possible
- 1:16:03way to make the car as slippery as possible, but maintain the safety.
- 1:16:07And so the new quote unquote arrow screen is designed to improve the aerodynamics
- 1:16:12and the airflow going around the driver.
- 1:16:14So it looks a little odd.
- 1:16:16It's kind of tankish when you look at it.
- 1:16:18I mean, they added vents and they put a lid on the top basically,
- 1:16:21because the current windscreen is really like an open wheel windscreen.
- 1:16:24So it just comes up and it's open over your head.
- 1:16:26Looks like they put a top on it, but then obviously, so you
- 1:16:29don't Frickin boil and suffocate.
- 1:16:32There's two huge vents.
- 1:16:34Yeah.
- 1:16:35Push air in.
- 1:16:36So basically if they put fenders over the wheels, they've got a prototype.
- 1:16:39Gee, I'm glad you brought that up.
- 1:16:41Hmm.
- 1:16:42Funny how that works.
- 1:16:44It's all going to be in dirt's cars soon enough.
- 1:16:47Well, let's talk about formula one.
- 1:16:49What has happened here over the last month?
- 1:16:51Still the Mac show won four out of the five races.
- 1:16:54Missed that one because car broke.
- 1:16:56Yes.
- 1:16:57Carlos won that one, I think, instead.
- 1:17:01So good for him.
- 1:17:02Let's clarify, didn't Verstappen's Red Bull catch on fire?
- 1:17:06Yes, there was a brake issue on basically lap one.
- 1:17:11The rear brake was stuck, so it was constantly riding the brake and then
- 1:17:15obviously he was having handling issues, didn't realize, or they didn't
- 1:17:19communicate what it was, and he came into the pit lane and it got to the
- 1:17:23point that it literally exploded into a burst of flames because it got so hot.
- 1:17:26And that was it catastrophic failure that put him out of the race on
- 1:17:30like lap two or three or something.
- 1:17:33Awesome.
- 1:17:34And otherwise I think all the other races he's been, you know, 45 seconds
- 1:17:37ahead of the next car and like lather rinse repeat from last year.
- 1:17:41How exciting.
- 1:17:42How fast was he during the sprint race?
- 1:17:44He was like 20 seconds ahead in a, or no, like 10 or 15 seconds ahead in a.
- 1:17:4820 minute race or something ludicrous.
- 1:17:51Yeah, I mean.
- 1:17:53Cheating.
- 1:17:54I don't know.
- 1:17:54There's something going on.
- 1:17:56The thing I don't understand is he's so much faster than even Perez.
- 1:18:01Not to spoil an upcoming episode, but we're doing a tribute to Ayrton Senna.
- 1:18:05And so it commemorates 30 years since his passing, tragic
- 1:18:09passing at Temporello at Ipola.
- 1:18:11And one of the comparisons that we made on that episode was Verstappen to Senna.
- 1:18:16If you look at Senna's 1988 season, he had the perfect run.
- 1:18:21He missed all but one.
- 1:18:23And that was the event at Monza because that was sort of like giving the nod
- 1:18:27to Ferrari because Enzo had passed.
- 1:18:29And so Ferrari wins it at Monza and the whole thing, right?
- 1:18:32Kind of thinking about it, drawing this parallel between Max And Senna,
- 1:18:36which you can make, especially if you extrapolate all the data that
- 1:18:40exists and all this kind of stuff.
- 1:18:41But the one thing that kept coming up, and I've said this before, and
- 1:18:44you guys told I want to put Max in the Haas and see what he does.
- 1:18:50Why are you saying?
- 1:18:52I don't disagree with you.
- 1:18:53I've never said the contrary.
- 1:18:55A lot of people have.
- 1:18:56I don't think Brad has either.
- 1:18:58Shout out to Sam Harrington.
- 1:19:00No, but a lot of people have that's so stupid.
- 1:19:03That's what I want to see him in another car.
- 1:19:06The same argument was made with Senna.
- 1:19:08You put the best driver in the best car.
- 1:19:10He's always going to win.
- 1:19:12Is it the driver?
- 1:19:13Is it the car?
- 1:19:14If you want to make the decision, put him in a lesser car and see how he does.
- 1:19:17If he kicks butt 20 seconds ahead in a Ferrari or in a Mercedes, which we know
- 1:19:22is slower or in a Haas, you know, to make the joke, okay, it's for stopping.
- 1:19:26He's that good.
- 1:19:28You've got to take the Red Bull out of the equation.
- 1:19:30But the only way to really prove that is to have everybody driving the same car.
- 1:19:33Oh, that's called spec racing.
- 1:19:35Oh, that's cool.
- 1:19:36Well, I mean, to Brad's point, he's miles ahead of his own teammate
- 1:19:40in supposedly the same car, which they're not exactly the same, right?
- 1:19:44So that goes back in the history books.
- 1:19:46And it's something that we talked about even with Senna, you know, with all these
- 1:19:49different teammates outside of Prost, they would make these negotiations.
- 1:19:53Like when he was at Lotus, Now, I'm not saying Red Bull doesn't have
- 1:19:57deep pockets because they all sort of do, but back in those days he would
- 1:20:01demand my car gets the best parts.
- 1:20:04The cars are, yes, in look and feel, they are equal, but they are not.
- 1:20:08The other car, the backup driver, the number two driver, basically got all
- 1:20:11the leftover crap and it met spec and it met qualification and whatever,
- 1:20:16but the lead car got the better parts.
- 1:20:18I'm not saying it's exactly the same, you know, maybe the tuning is different.
- 1:20:22I mean, so many different things in a modern formula one car, but I'm wondering
- 1:20:26a, if some of that is happening or B, like I've said before, maybe they're cheating
- 1:20:31and nobody's been able to prove it yet.
- 1:20:33I don't know.
- 1:20:33I mean, I think there's a consistency in him, no doubt that he can consistently.
- 1:20:39Just lap after lap hit the same freaking mark exactly the same way.
- 1:20:42When you've seen some of the races where he passes the other cars as if they're
- 1:20:46parked, and I know there's the DRS and all that stuff, but some of the gap
- 1:20:50closing is just extraordinary, and it's like this car is in a league of its own.
- 1:20:55It's not even Again, is it the car?
- 1:20:57Is it him?
- 1:20:58Well, in a straight line, it's the car, because what is his talent?
- 1:21:01Pushing the pedal down corner exit speed makes a huge difference.
- 1:21:05I mean, yes.
- 1:21:05Yes.
- 1:21:06In that regard.
- 1:21:07Yes.
- 1:21:07The corner exit speed, but on some of the traps was a really long straights.
- 1:21:12But here's the thing.
- 1:21:1310 years from now, 20 years from now, we look back.
- 1:21:16We might.
- 1:21:17Be talking about Verstappen as the second coming of Senna.
- 1:21:21I want to put it under a different lens and I know I've been hating on
- 1:21:24Verstappen for a long time, but I've come into this new way of thinking.
- 1:21:29Maybe I'm not hating, maybe we are seeing something.
- 1:21:33Just like we saw it in the 80s when Senna was coming up, because if you watch some
- 1:21:37of those races, he was ballistically fast compared to everybody else.
- 1:21:40His closing rates, his exit speeds, it was like he was driving a space shuttle and
- 1:21:44everybody else was driving Cinquecentos.
- 1:21:46Again, I'm wondering if this is sort of the second coming of Senna.
- 1:21:50Did anybody make that same comparison when Lewis Hamilton
- 1:21:52was winning all his championships?
- 1:21:54No, Lewis Hamilton was constantly compared to Schumacher.
- 1:21:56He was in Schumacher's shadow.
- 1:21:58And even though Hamilton wanted to be Senna, you know, that whole attitude
- 1:22:02and this facade that he put on, that I'm not here to make friends,
- 1:22:05and he wanted to emulate Senna.
- 1:22:07Senna, he was more like Schumacher.
- 1:22:08He cold and calculated and precise and consistent.
- 1:22:12Not that passionate driving.
- 1:22:14Not that just on the ragged edge lap after lap.
- 1:22:17Senna was that way.
- 1:22:18He drove at the ragged edge, 13 tenths, every lap, the same.
- 1:22:22Just ridiculous with complete disregard for everybody else and the thing is
- 1:22:27granted more Formula One drivers come up through karting than ever before
- 1:22:31but back then it was super rare and Senna was a karter before he was in
- 1:22:34Formula One he went Formula Two and moved up the ranks but Max also comes
- 1:22:39from a big history and practice of karting and when you watch him drive.
- 1:22:42They all do though everyone.
- 1:22:44In the grid right now does.
- 1:22:46Well Lance Stroll comes from Mario Kart.
- 1:22:51But my point is, it's hard to take the Carter out of the
- 1:22:55boy, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:22:56And we've seen some of that behavior with Verstappen, so I'm just telling
- 1:23:00people, for the haters out there, I think in a couple of years, we'll be
- 1:23:03looking back going, Damn, we were here for the beginning of something amazing.
- 1:23:08But in the moments where the car hasn't been good, he hasn't done shit.
- 1:23:12Very few races.
- 1:23:13Where, like, the car was having problems, like, he couldn't, I don't
- 1:23:17know if he got into a Haas, because the Haas is inferior, that he could
- 1:23:21win, and definitely not by 45 seconds or something ridiculous like that.
- 1:23:24I don't think anybody could.
- 1:23:26I think what will be more telling, and the jury is out on the car
- 1:23:30versus him and all that stuff, because everyone claims the car.
- 1:23:34is because Adrian Newey, he designed it.
- 1:23:36Well, guess what?
- 1:23:37He's leaving Red Bull.
- 1:23:39So if he builds the same car somewhere else and now suddenly that gap closes,
- 1:23:45now you know it's the car, right?
- 1:23:47For sure.
- 1:23:48Now if he has to fight somebody for that first place constantly, and
- 1:23:51there's real racing going on, because he's out by himself doing time trials.
- 1:23:56He's not under pressure to make a mistake.
- 1:23:58He doesn't have to make a mistake because he's got somebody breathing down his neck.
- 1:24:01Yet he always has something to complain about.
- 1:24:03Right?
- 1:24:03So that's a whole different dynamic too.
- 1:24:05When you're out there just doing hot laps by yourself, the dynamic's different.
- 1:24:08So who knows?
- 1:24:09So it'll be interesting to see.
- 1:24:10We don't know, allegedly.
- 1:24:12So it's kind of breaking news today.
- 1:24:14Where knew he's going?
- 1:24:16It says he wants out and he's gone.
- 1:24:17He's gonna even break the contract that he has, I think, to get out.
- 1:24:21Because I think technically his contract goes till the end of next season.
- 1:24:24But he can, I think, break it and get out so that he could be with
- 1:24:26a new team starting next season.
- 1:24:29And ready.
- 1:24:30Be interesting to see where Well, there was, I think, rumors a while ago about,
- 1:24:34Oh, if Hamilton moves and Adrian, like, goes with him, would he go to Ferrari?
- 1:24:38Or did daddy wore bucks?
- 1:24:40Pony up some big cash to bring him to Aston so his son can look good.
- 1:24:45I don't know.
- 1:24:47Yeah, that'll be interesting to see because if he clones a red bull for
- 1:24:50somebody else or let's say he doesn't sign with a team at all that reeks of suspicion
- 1:24:55that maybe they were on the verge of getting caught for doing something, you
- 1:24:58know, Lotus esque in this modern time and he doesn't want to be associated with it.
- 1:25:03Conspiracy theories!
- 1:25:05What?
- 1:25:05That's a very NCAA collegiate sports theory there.
- 1:25:09Just saying, it could happen.
- 1:25:11I suspect he's trying to get out because of the whole Christian Horner drama, and
- 1:25:14there's probably more going on there.
- 1:25:16That's supposedly the impetus for it, is the whole Horner allegations thing.
- 1:25:20He's like, nope, I'm done with this.
- 1:25:22Well, let's just cross our fingers and hope he goes to Audi, and I mean
- 1:25:26Sauber, and the Germans is coming to destroy everybody, it'd be perfect.
- 1:25:29Oh my god, that'd be amazing.
- 1:25:31Which, speaking of Audi, apparently they've signed their first
- 1:25:34driver and it's not Harlow Sines.
- 1:25:36Uh oh.
- 1:25:36Even though there's rumors about that, that they're courting him
- 1:25:39and this, that, and the other, but they have Nico Hülkenberg.
- 1:25:42What?
- 1:25:43Like, okay, he's sitting there backmarking in Haas right now.
- 1:25:46Like, cool.
- 1:25:47Really?
- 1:25:47You could've brought Vettel back out of retirement, I don't know.
- 1:25:50Probably would've been better.
- 1:25:51They still might.
- 1:25:52There's a rumor about that too.
- 1:25:53They could get bonus out of retirement.
- 1:25:56Out of his green state car.
- 1:25:58What is there anybody else on the list with a German last name?
- 1:26:03Let's start there.
- 1:26:04Uh, there are no other German drivers on the grid right now.
- 1:26:09That's why they chose Hulkenberg.
- 1:26:11It's very simple.
- 1:26:12The way Volkswagen works.
- 1:26:14They're gonna start there.
- 1:26:15Just gonna leave it alone.
- 1:26:16But couldn't they still get in Mick Schumacher?
- 1:26:18That's not possible.
- 1:26:19He's not doing anything right now.
- 1:26:20Could.
- 1:26:20I don't know who any of the reserve drivers are.
- 1:26:22If there's any German ones there might be.
- 1:26:24But the next F1 news is Miami.
- 1:26:26Welcome to Miami.
- 1:26:28Thousand dollars for three days.
- 1:26:30Get your uh, wallets open.
- 1:26:32I'd rather not.
- 1:26:33So May 5th I believe is that race.
- 1:26:35Another spectacle.
- 1:26:36Well, if that's all we got, we will tune in next month for more Formula One recap.
- 1:26:40But for now, our motorsports news is brought to us in partnership
- 1:26:43with the International Motor Racing Research Center Watkins Glen.
- 1:26:45So I just want to let you guys know the raffle closed and we
- 1:26:48do have a winner of the 2024 e ray that they were raffling off.
- 1:26:54Apparently it is going to a man in Florida, so we may see this car
- 1:26:58show up in the news soon enough.
- 1:27:00The rumor on the street is they've already selected the next raffle car.
- 1:27:03So spoiler alert, it's going to be another Corvette.
- 1:27:06This time it will be a Z06.
- 1:27:08So I don't have all the details on that yet, but look for an upcoming
- 1:27:11announcement on the next raffle car for the 2024 2025 season.
- 1:27:15And by the way, if you do buy a raffle ticket, And you win, you do
- 1:27:20have the option to take home the car or a cash prize option instead.
- 1:27:23But please note that every ticket you buy goes to continue the work
- 1:27:28being done at the IMRRC, which is a non profit organization celebrating
- 1:27:33its 25th year of existence this year.
- 1:27:36So through your help, it keeps the lights on, keeps things
- 1:27:39going, keeps research going.
- 1:27:41And it's for a really great cause because they are at the epicenter of
- 1:27:44a lot of things in the motorsports communities really appreciate the work
- 1:27:48that they're doing and your help by participating in these sweepstakes and
- 1:27:51other things very much goes a long way.
- 1:27:53So that being said, teasers for upcoming events at the IMRC on May 11th, there is
- 1:27:58going to be a center conversation called.
- 1:28:00Oswego Supers, a legacy of speed at the Steel Palace, which includes the
- 1:28:05Purdy Deuce, one of the legendary super modifies that's run at Oswego, and it's
- 1:28:09currently on display at the center.
- 1:28:11If you look at our Instagram, if you look at theirs, all the social
- 1:28:14media stuff, we have some special articles about the Purdy Deuce.
- 1:28:17We recently sat down with Camden Proud, the PR director from
- 1:28:20Oswego, to talk about the history.
- 1:28:22Kip Zyder came on and did a short, what we call TLDR, too long, didn't
- 1:28:25read about the importance of the Purdy Deuce, lots of stuff around that.
- 1:28:28They're going to be recording the session and we'll be able to bring
- 1:28:30that to you later in the season.
- 1:28:32And then again, on June 22nd, there's another center conversation.
- 1:28:36This one, even more important, it's called the greatest Corvette story ever told.
- 1:28:40It's about the Camarotti Corvette, which has multiple
- 1:28:43wins under its belt to include.
- 1:28:46Really, really awesome car.
- 1:28:47It's the tail end of the C1 Corvettes.
- 1:28:50So first generation Corvettes, again, they're looking to record that.
- 1:28:52We'll get that out and remastered later in the year.
- 1:28:55And then on September the 12th, there will be the Cameron R Argett Singer award for
- 1:29:00outstanding contributions to motorsport.
- 1:29:03I am privy to who is getting awarded this year.
- 1:29:06It can't say yet.
- 1:29:07The official press release will be coming out any day now.
- 1:29:09So stay tuned to that.
- 1:29:10And I think a lot of people will be shocked.
- 1:29:12And tickets are on sale for the Argettsinger award dinner right now.
- 1:29:16You can get those from the IMRRC website by clicking on store
- 1:29:20and then going to awards dinner.
- 1:29:22And then don't forget November 1st through the 2nd, mark your calendar.
- 1:29:25The 8th annual Michael R.
- 1:29:27Argettsinger symposium on motorsports history is going to be held
- 1:29:30at Watkins Glen international.
- 1:29:31And we will again, be carrying it on the motoring podcast network and live
- 1:29:35streaming it for you on our Twitch.
- 1:29:37So stay tuned for that.
- 1:29:38And we are re releasing remastered.
