- 0:04Hello and welcome back to the episode of Bantu Lorenzia.
- 0:06How are you all doing up? You're doing great.
- 0:08For today's episode, I want to talk about Swaggy MO now.
- 0:12Swaggy MO is a content creator who decided to come to Nigeria.
- 0:17According to him, a friend of his was getting married in Abuja
- 0:21and then he was invited. They told him they were going to
- 0:24take care of him, take care of everything.
- 0:26They bought the tickets and all that and they told him they were
- 0:30going to take care of, I don't even know, OK, as an American,
- 0:35because he was talking about a blue passport.
- 0:37So I think blue passport is American passport.
- 0:40This guy flew in from America to Nigeria without a visa.
- 0:46I don't know how it works, OK, because I said Nigerian dual
- 0:52citizenship. When I get to Nigeria, I will
- 0:56just bring my passports. And then you use your Nigerian
- 1:03passport to basically check in so you don't flash the American
- 1:07or the whatever passport that you have.
- 1:09Because as a Nigerian, you check in as a Nigerian.
- 1:12And then when you're checking out going to another country,
- 1:15you, you present the country's passport that you're going to to
- 1:19make sure that you have valid exit and entry visas or
- 1:25passports. Now more they told him they were
- 1:30going to take care of everything.
- 1:31I don't know how it works, but more flew into Nigeria without a
- 1:35visa for some reason. He flashed his American
- 1:40passports and maybe he was expecting.
- 1:45I don't know what he was expecting.
- 1:46And then let me just play that video for you to to hear from
- 1:51more I. Don't think I will ever step
- 1:53foot in Nigeria again for the rest of my life if I can avoid
- 1:55it. I just got deported from Nigeria
- 1:58and it was the most dehumanising, humiliating
- 2:01experience ever in my life. And it wasn't just because I was
- 2:04getting deported, but it's because how I was treated.
- 2:06And it's absolutely breaking my heart that I have to make this
- 2:08video because if you know me, you know my love for Nigerians
- 2:11really like go deep bro. Like a country that doesn't get
- 2:14the flowers that I rightfully earned and deserved is Nigeria.
- 2:17Listen, I'm obsessed with Nigerians to like an unhealthy
- 2:19level. Like I love Nigerian so much.
- 2:22The creativity, the tenacity that drive the Nigerians are
- 2:26built differently. Listen, I just went to Harvard
- 2:28for speaking, the engagement when I tell you everybody I met,
- 2:31what's your name and catchy, what's your name?
- 2:32Adeola, What's their name? Olua Femi.
- 2:34I'm like, ah, I felt like I was a Nigerian convention or
- 2:37something, which proves what I always knew to be true.
- 2:39Nigerians are just the definition of excellence.
- 2:42I even feel the need to like apologise to like my Nigerian
- 2:45colleagues and like, just like all the people from Nigeria that
- 2:48really support me, you know, like I truly champion for
- 2:51Africa, bro, you know, I'm saying, and to get treated like
- 2:54that on African, like Nigeria was always the number one
- 2:57country on my travels list more than I wanted to even go back to
- 2:59Senegal and Gambia. Like I swear, like Nigeria is so
- 3:02rich in culture, tradition and history.
- 3:04And I've always wanted to experience that.
- 3:05I always wanted to submerge myself within that.
- 3:07And I felt like that was robbed of me, not just because of the
- 3:09deportation, but because of like how traumatic the whole
- 3:11experience was and how some of these people were, were
- 3:14speaking. I'm just like, I don't ever want
- 3:15to have to deal with this again for the rest of my life.
- 3:17So a friend of mine was getting married in Abuja and was like
- 3:19your MO pull up to my wedding, Like, don't worry about airfare,
- 3:21whatever, I'll pay for all that. So he was basically taking care
- 3:24of every. So I was like, super, super
- 3:26excited. I've had this thing where like
- 3:27in every African country I go to, I always want to go to like
- 3:30an orphanage and figure out like, you know, how I can
- 3:32contribute or anything of that sort.
- 3:33So I was like, yeah, let me figure out what I can do to give
- 3:35back to the people in Nigeria. So I spent thousands and
- 3:38thousands of dollars of my own money and just was already
- 3:41making connections with people that are out there on the
- 3:43grounds and like figuring out how to like, get the fundraiser
- 3:45going and everything. And I felt like also like just
- 3:47the way that charity is done in Africa is it can be very
- 3:50dehumanising. And I just want to kind of like
- 3:51change how that is done in a sense.
- 3:53As I got to the airport, they were asking me like, what's my
- 3:56visa? I'm like, oh, the person that
- 3:57invited me like took care of it, but it's because the system in
- 4:00Nigeria was down. They didn't get any like update
- 4:02or anything of that sort. So I had to make an application
- 4:05at the airport and I got the confirmation that the
- 4:07application was submitted. So I thought that once I get to
- 4:09Nigeria, I would get the approval.
- 4:11At least there's something that I can like, you know, figure out
- 4:13there. But that wasn't the case.
- 4:14Got to Nigeria and they were like, oh, your visa still not
- 4:17approved, but the system is down.
- 4:18We can't even check it. And they took me to an office
- 4:20and I was talking to this one guy and his shift ended and he
- 4:22left and I was there by myself. Legit nobody was giving me
- 4:25information, nothing. I was hungry, thirsty, nothing.
- 4:29Bro, I even got outside one time trying to speak to somebody and
- 4:31this the guy legit ignored me to the point where somebody had to
- 4:35look at him and be like yo respond to him.
- 4:37And he was like, what do you want?
- 4:38Like he was like just go back over there.
- 4:39I'm just like, that was so disrespectful.
- 4:41I was legit just trying to get an update on what was happening.
- 4:43Mind you, like people walking around but you don't even know
- 4:45who's an immigration officer or not.
- 4:47People, some people are in plainclothes and some people are
- 4:49sewing their bags. Some people are.
- 4:50But it was just so chaotic. After hours of waiting at the
- 4:53Lagos airport, their senior official, he came in and he was
- 4:56even more dismissal. Just legit was like oh we
- 4:58sending you back? Within 5 to 10 minutes of him
- 5:00coming, I was already being escorted back to go to the Delta
- 5:02gate for the next flight that was out.
- 5:04So the flight happened to basically like be late or the
- 5:07door was closed by the time we got there and they wanted me to
- 5:09stay in their office bro for 24 hours.
- 5:12The next flight was 24 hours away.
- 5:14I was I had to pay out of my own pocket to go get a lounge so I
- 5:17can eat and shower or even get like a beverage.
- 5:20But nothing was offered to me. And it's crazy because some of
- 5:23the shopkeepers that were there like were just so nice, so cute.
- 5:26They always were looking out for me asking me, oh, do you want
- 5:28anything? Do you want any food?
- 5:30Like always check in to mix it. I was good.
- 5:32And mind you, there were people that were on the same flight as
- 5:34me that will come and people would like people in regular
- 5:36clothes would come and legit no bags, no nothing.
- 5:39Come escort them all the way. Before he even reached the
- 5:42passport control, they would take, take, come escort them
- 5:45from there. They didn't even scan their
- 5:46passport. And some of the immigrations
- 5:47officers were in my face talking about oh, and they saying, oh,
- 5:50Nigeria is corrupt, basically saying that like, oh, I guess
- 5:53we're so corrupt. But I'm just like, what does
- 5:55what everybody else have that what does that have to do with
- 5:57me? And get this, even the next day
- 5:59that I was getting processed right in front of my face, the
- 6:02Delta employee was telling the immigration officer, oh, a good
- 6:05job. I'm another African man just
- 6:07like you, bro. The blue passport that I carry
- 6:09don't mean nothing, bro. At the end of the day, like have
- 6:12some respect and have some dignity in the way that you
- 6:14treat people. He was like, oh, good job.
- 6:16Oh, you guys are finally doing a good job.
- 6:17I'm just like, and mind you, this is the same guy that I was
- 6:19going to upgrade my flight with. And he was just being so
- 6:22dismissal and almost like, oh, yeah, oh, you're going to fly
- 6:25back in the economy because the ticket was economy.
- 6:27So I had I was going to upgrade. I upgraded my flight by myself
- 6:29when I was going and so I was going to do the same thing when
- 6:32I was coming back and he was just like, Oh no, we go fly you,
- 6:35we gonna fly you will send you back in economy.
- 6:36Mind you, I have a Delta status and I was willing to pay for
- 6:39whatever the upgrade was going to be because I was flying 18
- 6:42hours, 18 hours the day before just to sleep at the airport.
- 6:47But it's 34 hours just to get right back on another plane.
- 6:51Like I feel so heartbroken because like, if you know me,
- 6:54like I really rock with Nigerians like heavy bro.
- 6:56I never in my life thought I would ever sit down and be
- 6:59making this type of video. Never ever, ever in my life.
- 7:02But like I'm a big believer in divine order.
- 7:05So maybe it was just not being meant for me to go to Nigeria,
- 7:08but it's just the way I was treated that really broke my
- 7:10heart by people that look exactly like me.
- 7:12I'm not even asking for you to be nice to me.
- 7:14Just be fair. Like talk to me like I'm a man
- 7:16just like you. It is the audacity for me.
- 7:21Stacey Finish. Stacey Finish.
- 7:25How can you come into a country without a valid visa regardless
- 7:33you thought you could make the application at the airport?
- 7:39What if we don't have lights? What if NEPA took lights and
- 7:46there was no Internet access and we they said they couldn't see?
- 7:52Because honestly, I don't know why he's complaining because if
- 8:05it were any other country he wouldn't just get into it, you
- 8:09know, book a flight and entire country without sorting his
- 8:17visas out. Even if you know you're
- 8:19travelling and you there are countries you can enter without
- 8:24visas, there's no problem. I don't know which blue passport
- 8:28he's talking about, but there are countries there that's, you
- 8:32know, have visa waivers. If you're going into a country
- 8:36where you require an entry visa, why don't you apply before you
- 8:42go to any country? Why don't you check he's talking
- 8:44about Sen Senegal and Gambia? I don't know, like do you, did
- 8:51you come with the passport? Because I think Senegal is West
- 8:55Africa. ECOWAS.
- 8:57Did you come with your Senegal passports to allow you entry?
- 9:01No, you came with a blue passports and you're speaking
- 9:04English, talking about Harvard, You met Nigerians, you want to
- 9:08come and create content. I think he's pained because he
- 9:14spent money. He's talking about charity, he's
- 9:18talking about fundraisers. You've not been to Nigeria
- 9:23before. He did not apply for visa.
- 9:26You were busy spending money making connections to come and
- 9:29raise money in Nigeria to come and create use us as content
- 9:33Nigeria immigration. You do this one and even said
- 9:38that somebody you know told him that yes Nigeria is corrupt, but
- 9:42this one they did well. That is just see finish the
- 9:46level of the audacity, the audacity for him to even make
- 9:51this video trying to make Nigeria look bad.
- 9:54How can you go to a country where you don't have a valid
- 9:57visa? Make it make sense.
- 10:02Anyway, let me know what you think.
- 10:05Do you think he has a point? Do you think that they should
- 10:09have allowed him entire country without a visa or do you think
- 10:13that they would? They should have processed his
- 10:15visa at that point. It doesn't even.
- 10:20Would you fly to America without a visa and expect them to
- 10:22process your visa at the point of entry?
- 10:26Would you do that? The answer is no, you wouldn't,
- 10:30You would not. Hey, let me know what you think.
- 10:35Do you sympathise with him for the way he was treated or do you
- 10:38think that you know he deserves everything he got?
- 10:42Nigeria happened to him. Let me know what you think.
- 10:45Thank you very much for watching this episode.
- 10:47Please like, like, like and share.
- 10:48Thank you very much for watching.
- 10:50Bye bye.
