- 0:01Dot com Welcome to the Daily Quote, a podcast designed to
- 0:06kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:08I'm your host Anna McGivern for November 2nd.
- 0:11Today is 0 Tasking Day and yes, you heard it right, 0 Tasking
- 0:18Day celebrated every year on the 1st Sunday of November.
- 0:22This officially is the laziest holiday on the calendar, and I
- 0:26mean that as the highest compliment. 0 Tasking Day
- 0:30encourages us to accomplish absolutely nothing, not a zilch
- 0:370 tasks. In our productivity obsessed
- 0:40culture where we're constantly optimizing, hustling and
- 0:43grinding. 0 Tasking Day arrives like a permission slip from the
- 0:48universe itself. It's a day that says hey, that
- 0:52To Do List. It can wait.
- 0:54That inbox still going to be there tomorrow?
- 0:58Those dishes? They're not going anywhere.
- 1:02The beauty of this day is its simplicity.
- 1:05You don't have to plan, elaborate self-care routines or
- 1:08schedule a relaxation appointment.
- 1:10You just don't do things. And isn't that refreshing?
- 1:15A holiday that requires 0 preparation, 0 effort, and 0
- 1:20guilt about doing 0 things. And that brings us to today's
- 1:25quote from A A Milne, the beloved character writer of
- 1:29Winnie the Pooh, who said people say nothing is impossible, but I
- 1:36do nothing every day. Leave it to Pooh Bear to
- 1:40accidentally drop one of the most profound observations about
- 1:44rest and productivity. On the surface, this is classic
- 1:49Pooh, a silly play on words that makes a smile.
- 1:52But look deeper and there's real wisdom in there.
- 1:55In a world that tells us doing nothing is impossible, who
- 2:00gently reminds us that not only is it possible, it's something
- 2:04we can practice daily. This connects perfectly to 0
- 2:08Tasking Day, because both challenge our cultural obsession
- 2:11with busyness. We've somehow convinced
- 2:14ourselves that our worth is measured by our output, that
- 2:17rest is something we have to earn, that doing nothing is
- 2:22equivalent to being lazy. But Poo understands something
- 2:25we've forgotten. Sometimes, doing nothing is
- 2:29doing something. It's giving your mind space to
- 2:31wander. It's letting your body recover.
- 2:34It's allowing creativity to bubble up from somewhere deeper
- 2:38than your To Do List can reach. The joking Pooh's quote is that
- 2:42he's not striving to do nothing, he just naturally does it.
- 2:46And maybe that's the real lesson.
- 2:49Rest shouldn't be another task to check off.
- 2:52It should be as natural as honey is to a bear.
- 2:56But here's the challenge for today.
- 2:59And yes, I recognize the irony of giving you a task on 0 task
- 3:02in day. But bear with me.
- 3:06Today, give yourself permission to do absolutely nothing.
- 3:11And I mean nothing. Don't productive nothing where
- 3:15you're resting but secretly planning your week.
- 3:18Don't Instagram nothing where you're scrolling and calling it
- 3:22relaxation. Don't even self-care nothing
- 3:25where rest becomes another item on your Wellness checklist.
- 3:29Just be. Sit in a chair and look at
- 3:32clouds. Lie on the floor and listen to
- 3:35music, Stare at your ceiling, take a nap without setting an
- 3:39alarm. Whatever.
- 3:41Nothing means to you, do that. And when that voice in your head
- 3:46says, shouldn't I be doing something, just remember Pooh's
- 3:51wisdom. You are doing something, you're
- 3:55doing nothing. And people say that's
- 3:57impossible, but you're proving them wrong.
- 4:01That's going to do it. For today, I'm Enya McGivern
- 4:03signing off for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 4:09Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
- 4:18Now if you'll excuse me, I have some very important nothing to
- 4:22do.
