Latest / Learn Amharic with Fexingo / Asking for Directions in Amharic
Transcript
- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another Amharic adventure? Luna: Absolutely. I've been wanting to learn how to get around without getting lost. Lucas: Perfect timing. Today we're tackling directions: asking where things are and understanding simple answers. Luna: Yes. That would save me so much wandering around. Lucas: Before we dive in, a quick thought. If Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Amharic, a couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these going. Buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, if you've gotten something out of them. Luna: Yeah. It really does make a difference. Now, let's get into it. Lucas: Alright. First phrase: የት ነው? That means 'where is it?'. Luna: የት ነው? Important. Lucas: Exactly. Use it like 'restaurant የት ነው?'. Luna: So I just add the place before it? Lucas: Yep. Now two key directions: ቀኝ for right, ግራ for left. Luna: ቀኝ... I'll mix those up for sure. Lucas: You'll get it. ቀኝ right, ግራ left. And ቀጥ ብለህ ሂድ means 'go straight'. Straight. Got it. Lucas: Now let's put it together. Luna: Where is the restaurant. Lucas: Right. And I'd say: ቀጥ ብለህ ሂድ, ከዚያም ቀኝ በል. Luna: Go straight, then turn right. Lucas: Perfect. Also learn እዚህ for 'here' and እዚያ for 'there'. Luna: እዚህ, እዚያ. So I can say 'the market is እዚህ'. Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice a mini-scene. You're looking for a restaurant. Luna: Ok. Luna: Go straight, then left. It's there. Nice. Lucas: You did it. Let's say them all again. Luna: Where is it? Lucas: ቀኝ. Luna: Right. Lucas: ግራ. Luna: Left. Luna: Go straight. Lucas: እዚህ and እዚያ. Luna: Here and there. Lucas: Awesome. Now you can navigate a bit. Practice these till we chat again. Luna: Will do. Thanks Lucas.
