- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the Roman Missal before 1955. A Saturday mass of the blessed virgin Mary with commemoration of saints Cyprian and Justina September 26 in the year of our Lord 2026. Of today's commemorated saints Cyprian and Justina in the liturgical year Dom Prosper Guerringer writes the following. Whosoever ye be that are seduced by the mysteries of the demons, None of you can equal the zeal I once had for these false gods, nor my researches into their secrets, nor the vain power they had communicated to me. To me, Cyprian, who from my infancy was given up to the service of the dragon in the citadel of Minerva.
- 1:04Learn from me the deceitfulness of their illusions. A virgin has proved to me that their power is but smoke. The king of the demons was arrested at the door of a mere child and could not cross the threshold. He who promises so much is a liar. A woman makes sport of the boaster who vaunted he could shake heaven and earth.
- 1:35The roaring lion becomes a startled gnat before the Christian virgin, Justina. Cyprian, who was first a magician and afterwards a martyr attempted by charms and spells to make Justina a Christian virgin consent to the passion of a certain young man. He consulted the devil as to the best way to succeed and was told in reply that no art would be of any service to him against the true disciples of Christ. This answer made so great an impression on Cyprian that grieving bitterly over his former manner of life, he abandoned his magical arts and was completely converted to the faith of Christ our Lord. Accused of being a Christian, he was seized together with the virgin Justina and they were both severely scourged.
- 2:41They were then thrown into prison to see if they would change their mind. But on being taken out as they remained firm in the Christian religion, they were cast into a cauldron of boiling pitch, fat, and wax. Finally, they were beheaded at Nicomedia. Their bodies were left six days unburied, after which some sailors carried them secretly by night to their ship and conveyed them to Rome. They were first buried on the estate of a noble lady named Rufina, but afterwards were translated into the city and laid in Constantine's Basilica near the baptistery.
- 3:32He who sought to ruin thee is now, O Virgin, thy trophy of victory. And for thee, O Cyprian, the path of crime turned aside into the way of salvation. May you together triumph over Satan in this age when spirit dealing is seducing so many faltering faithless souls. Teach Christians after your example to arm themselves against this and every other danger with the sign of the cross. Then will the enemy be forced to say again, I saw a terrible sign and I trembled.
- 4:21I beheld the sign of the crucified and my strength melted like wax. In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost. Amen. The introit. Hail holy mother who did spring forth the king who rule of heaven and earth forever and ever.
- 4:54My heart hath uttered a good word. I speak of my works to the king. Glory be to the father and to the son and to the holy ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. Hail holy mother, who did spring forth the king who rule of heaven and earth forever and ever.
- 5:26The collect. Let us pray. Grant to us thy servants, O Lord God, we pray thee lasting health of mind and body at the intercession of blessed Mary, the glorious and ever Virgin. May we be delivered from the sorrows of this life and enjoy the happiness of life everlasting. A commemoration of saints Cyprian and Justina.
- 5:57Let thy blessed martyrs Cyprian and Justina ever lend us strength and protection, o Lord, for thou never ceases to regard with mercy those to whom thou givest such powerful aid through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the wisdom of Sirach. At the beginning of time, before the world was I was created and to all eternity I shall not cease to be. Mind administer before him in his holy dwelling.
- 6:52So according to his word, I made Zion my stronghold, the holy city my resting place, Jerusalem my throne, My roots spread out among the people that enjoy his favor. My God has granted me a share in his own domain. Where his faithful servants are gathered there I love to linger. The gradual, Blessed and venerable art thou, O Virgin Mary, who without loss of purity wert found to be the mother of our savior. Virgin mother of God, he whom the whole world cannot hold, enclosed himself in thy womb and became man.
- 7:48Alleluia. Alleluia. After his birth a virgin entire thou didst remain. O mother of God intercede for us. Alleluia.
- 8:05A continuation of the holy gospel according to Luke. At that time Jesus was speaking to the crowd. A woman in the multitude said to him aloud, blessed is the womb that bore thee, the breast which thou hast sucked. And he said, shall we not say, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it? The Offeratory.
- 8:37Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. The secret. By thy gracious mercy, O Lord, in the intercession of blessed Mary ever Virgin, may this offering be of avail to us for welfare and peace now and forevermore. A commemoration of Saints Cyprian and Justina.

Defend us from all dangers through our Lord Jesus Christ thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The Preface of Our Lady. - 10:34The powers stand in awe. The heavens and the heavenly hosts together with the blessed Seraphim in triumphant chorus unite to celebrate it. Together with them we entreat thee that thou mayest bid our voices also to be admitted while we say with humble praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, the heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest.
- 11:11Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The Communion. Blessed is the womb of the Virgin Mary which bore the Son of the Eternal Father. The Post Communion.
