- 0:02This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me, covering one Piece
- 0:12episodes three seventy, three seventy one and three seventy two. The Great Swordsman
- 0:19Mihawk Loofy comes under the attack of the Black Sword, The Exterminations, Strategy
- 0:26and Action, The Power of the Pacifistas, and Akainu's plot white Beard entrapped
- 0:36in these episodes. I had a moment where I got fooled about white Beard
- 0:42also, but the reason I was fooled was because I didn't know where the
- 0:46source of this info came from. And as soon as I knew, I
- 0:50felt like this guy was a real Dodo Bird. Welcome to spoil Me,
- 1:12Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very much to
- 1:15Florian for commissioning this episode. Yeah, you guys, this kind of cracked
- 1:23me up because, like the thing about trusting information is that the source should
- 1:32be of concern and you should take that into consideration if you're getting your information
- 1:40anonymously and try and predict what it could be that somebody might be attempting to
- 1:46do. But it wasn't even anonymous. The source was the actual Marines,
- 1:52And I just really want to take this guy and slap and shake him,
- 1:55Like, why do you think they're gonna be honest with you about what's going
- 1:59on with white Beard? Why would you ever expect them to tell you the
- 2:01truth? What is the matter with you? You are a goon and an
- 2:07idiot. So anyway, let's back up and start with three four seventy,
- 2:14which has one of my favorite, uh the of the thumbnails of all of
- 2:20these episodes. It's just Boa with her head tilted back, pointing in that
- 2:24way that she has when she's like she's looking so far down her nose at
- 2:30you that she's actually looking up. It's just a joke that keeps popping up,
- 2:34and I really keep thinking I'm gonna get tired of it, but it's
- 2:38just really funny every time, and I feel like the animators probably had a
- 2:43good time like figuring out exactly how to draw this because it looks crazy,
- 2:46you know, And I just think sometimes about what it must be like if
- 2:53you're somebody who draws characters doing like wild stuff. But often they're just doing
- 3:00the kinds of things that, you know, the kinds of positions that a
- 3:04human body will often do. It's simply more extreme. Then you get used
- 3:08to certain, you know, a style of drawing, and I like to
- 3:16imagine that when they got to these moments with Boa, they had to get
- 3:21somebody and have them stand in front of them and be like, Okay,
- 3:24look, yeah, I couldn't find an example of anybody standing like this in
- 3:28stock photos for me to copy off of. So can you just come here
- 3:31and like weirdly almost backbend while pointing, and just hold that for a second.
- 3:36Hold it. I'm so sorry. I know that probably hurts your lower
- 3:38back really bad. I'm going to need you to hold it for just a
- 3:40little bit longer. Like it's just and her tits completely swallow her head so
- 3:46you cannot see her head at all. It's just like the arch of her
- 3:51boobs. It's really funny, you guys. I love this so much.
- 3:55So this episode is mostly about the attempt by Mihawk to fight Loufy and everybody
- 4:06around Lufy stepping in to keep him from having to actually do that. You
- 4:15know, I ended the last episode saying I don't really see that Lufy can
- 4:18win against Mihawk, so I don't get how he's going to come out of
- 4:21this, And the answer to that is pretty much that the only way he
- 4:29gets out of it is if he doesn't have to face Mi Hawk, which
- 4:32I really like. Just for the record, it's so difficult when you have
- 4:38people who are really high powered to continue for them to seem like a threat
- 4:45if you're going to have the main character be able to sort of plow through
- 4:49them when the plot needs it to happen. So I thought it was a
- 4:53really smart way to handle it of just having everybody around him combining their efforts
- 4:59to just straight up distract me Hawk and whatnot. And the distractions are very
- 5:09wildly in terms of quality. We have a couple of guys who come up
- 5:14who are yelling about like, hey, Meehawk, remember the last time we
- 5:17challenged you. Well, here comes a blast from the past to kick your
- 5:23smug gass. And these guys are coming at him with this full confidence,
- 5:28they are all prepared to win, and they come up running and me Hawk
- 5:34dispatches them with almost no effort whatsoever, and he just straight up says,
- 5:42I don't remember you your worms in a long line of them. Honestly,
- 5:51this is the sort of line that if I were still like out in the
- 5:55world dating, I would save because I feel like this could be something that
- 6:00you like, text back to an unsolicited dick pic and just be like,
- 6:04I cannot emphasize enough how unmemorable this dick is one worm and a long line
- 6:13of them. So these dudes, like I say, the quality varies wildly.
- 6:20And there is a guy who shows up later that it turns out Mihawk
- 6:25does recognize and it's not like they've met. It doesn't seem like but he's
- 6:30heard of him. But first Lufy is continuing to run. We had like
- 6:36things start off with Eva making room for him to get through a couple of
- 6:41places using death wink, and Mihawk manages to sort of slash at Loofy and
- 6:47it looks like he she manages to do some damage, like there's blood,
- 6:54and Lufy makes the noise and has that sort of like animation of you know,
- 7:00But all that really happens is that Lufy like slides into a wall.
- 7:04It doesn't look like his actual body is damaged. It seems almost more like
- 7:10the momentum of his running got interrupted. So anyway, jimbay Uh is the
- 7:16one who steps in here and he's saying, only Ace's brother would survive that
- 7:24attack. Anyone else would have been sliced clean in half, and I'm not
- 7:28really sure why that is, if you guys can explain it to me.
- 7:34I know that like shooting and cutting Loofy is more difficult because of his rubberiness,
- 7:42but it's not impossible. And is it like I would think that Mihawk,
- 7:49if anybody was going to be able to come at Loofy with a blow
- 7:54that would succeed in piercing his rubber and actually cutting him, it would be
- 8:01Meehawk that would be able to do it. So I don't really know.
- 8:07I feel like there's another mention at one point of how Lufy's ability is actually
- 8:13the one that's sort of the most badass out of everybody's and I don't I
- 8:20don't like, I don't disagree. I'm not trying to say that he's wrong.
- 8:24I think it's Captain Smoker who says that, But it feels more like
- 8:31it's it's an ability that's very adaptable and extremely defensive in comparison to a lot
- 8:39of the abilities we have seen, which are extremely offensive. And I'm sort
- 8:46of curious about whether you guys agree with that assessment, because there have been
- 8:52other abilities that are maybe a little bit more showy or seem a little bit
- 8:56more like sometimes straight up magical, and so they capture my imagination and sort
- 9:01of make me go, oh, that's dope. Like I'd like to see
- 9:05a little bit more of how that works. But we have really seen the
- 9:09versatility of Loufy's ability, and it's been a rare person that he goes up
- 9:18against who can affect him the same way that they affect the average adversary.
- 9:24I feel like the only people that I remember who managed to really fuck Loofy
- 9:31up, like in a way that I was like, maybe he's actually gonna
- 9:35be dead this time, we have Crocodile, and that was one of the
- 9:39first ones. Captain Smoker almost killed Loofy. But I'm not totally willing to
- 9:45give Smoker all the credit for that because I feel like there was more going
- 9:48on at the time. But maybe I'm wrong. I don't fully remember.
- 9:50And what's his name, the one from Impelled down with the poison. I
- 9:58keep wanting to say, magnet Animus. You guys, that's not Magellan.
- 10:03Magellan. He is certainly not magnanimous, Oh my god. But you know,
- 10:09there's been a lot of abilities we've seen that just the way they work,
- 10:13it just doesn't quite take the same way, and I am just really
- 10:20starting to wonder is he right? Is it? And is this was Lufy
- 10:26written this way specifically from the beginning to be like almost impossible to kill?
- 10:35Or I mean, of course he was, I take that back, but
- 10:39like, did the author realize that Lufy's ability was going to be more badass
- 10:48than a lot of things that he came up with later or has it just
- 10:52been sort of the necessity. Well, Lufy has to get through all of
- 10:54these like baddies, and so I have to find a way for his power
- 10:58to work so that he can survive this encounter, and that has led to
- 11:03him you know, the side effect is now he seems like a dude who
- 11:07just can't die. Ooh Luci also good thank you, Floren, Yes,
- 11:11good point. But anyway, so I was just sort of curious about the
- 11:18way that he says, like if anybody else had been hit with that,
- 11:22they would have died, but Louvi, you know, he survived it.
- 11:26And Jim Bay decides that he's going to face off against Mihawk, and it
- 11:33says like, well, I would sort of like for this whole thing to
- 11:37just die down I want peace, and maybe it's too late for that,
- 11:41but I gotta try, and I'm just sort of hopeful that maybe we can
- 11:46get there eventually. And I want to like save this kid over here.
- 11:50And so he does his fishman karate as he is going for it, there
- 11:56is like the firing of these cannons for far away, and he does breakfast
- 12:03as these cannons are They're coming from every direction. It's like a three sixty
- 12:07attack, and he is able to explode all of the cannon balls and Mehawk
- 12:16slices some of the cannon balls up in half. Like I was sort of
- 12:20surprised by that because I thought that Mihawk would be on the same side as
- 12:24the guy's firing the cannons, so I didn't really understand why he would want
- 12:26to assist Jimbae in avoiding the cannon strikes. But they come at each other,
- 12:35and you know, I, for one, had thought maybe Mihawk and
- 12:39Jimbay would be sort of evenly matched. It is almost embarrassing how bad Mihawk
- 12:48just tanks Jimbay. That dude goes flying and sinks through like a thick crust
- 12:56of ice and is underwater in a moment like, the only reason I'm not
- 13:01concerned about him is because he is a fish man. If he or anybody
- 13:03else, i'd be like, can somebody please go get him? Can we
- 13:07take a moment because that dude this, you know, it's just it's bad.
- 13:13So this is when uh loofy he has this like and you guys again,
- 13:24it's I feel like there's sort of sort of lack of clarity here.
- 13:28When he sees that Jimbe has gone down, Lufy is like, okay,
- 13:33you bastard. And he comes up against meehawk again and he is like his
- 13:41arms are going forward and then you see them get sliced off. But then
- 13:48he's punching the ground and he is like, oh, I see heaths have
- 13:54sliced off my arms. So that was him like imagining what would have happened.
- 14:01Okay. I feel like I just was not following what the animation was
- 14:07trying to get me to see there, And I think I got so caught
- 14:11up in like because I rewound this and rewatched it, and I felt like
- 14:15I'm still not getting what just happened here that I miss the fact that like
- 14:20in the next few moments, he actually says out loud why it hasn't happened
- 14:26yet, but yeah, so Meehawk is like, well, I guess you're
- 14:31not as stupid as you look after all, and continues to strike at him,
- 14:35and as Lufi is avoiding him, he's sort of looking around at the
- 14:39fighting going on around them in general, and he sees behind him because he's
- 14:46backbending to escape this strike that the whole top of that wave that is made
- 14:52from the frozen tidal wave. Basically Mihawk has sliced it all all And I
- 15:01don't fully get why except for like anime gunna anime, but that goes flying
- 15:09upward into the air in a way that I just don't feel like it would
- 15:15if you slice something like that. It doesn't fly up and then crash down.
- 15:20It's just it just slides back, you know. But so this makes
- 15:26like the iceberg turn into shrapnel essentially, and it's all coming down in chunks
- 15:33that sometimes are the size of the ships, you know. So everybody is
- 15:37very very distracted, understandably by the overall spectacle of this moment. And then
- 15:43we have Captain Buggy and he's yelling, hey, guys, it's time to
- 15:50make the plan called make Captain Buggy look like a badass go into action,
- 15:56because I'm pretty sure that they're filming this war and I will never get enough
- 16:02of this weird little side plot. You guys, it's not just the fact
- 16:07that Buggy is in the midst of this like weird campaign with these men for
- 16:11no reason at the moment. It's also the fact that we still have Mister
- 16:15three in there just rolling his eyes and being like, you guys are so
- 16:19dumb, Oh my god, And that really makes it. It's great.
- 16:23I just think it's super funny. The two of them paired up is a
- 16:27very very good idea. We jump over briefly to do Flamingo, who's like
- 16:34on this guy's back. I don't know what the deal is with this dude,
- 16:41but he is apparently trying to convince Crocodile to team up, and Crocodile,
- 16:48for his part, is just sort of like, I just don't see
- 16:51it for us. I'm so sorry. We're on the brink of a new
- 16:56era and it belongs to us, an era where all the powers that matter.
- 17:00What is it that he says, hold on trying to find it here?
- 17:06Oh that's right, he calls, like all these guys old fogies basically
- 17:10an era where all that matters is the power you yield. Sounds appealing,
- 17:14right, you want a piece of it? I bet, And Crocodile has
- 17:18a moment of just hmmm, Colm, No, I can tell you're intrigued.
- 17:25Sure, technically you've been stripped of your title, but when you get
- 17:29down to it, we're both warlords at heart, aren't we. And Crocodile
- 17:36is just like, dude, I don't like the fact that you're acting like
- 17:38you're my peer, bud. We are not on the same level. You
- 17:45should be asking to work for me, begging actually, and do Flamingo's like,
- 17:53well, shit, I really thought that the fact that you went to
- 17:56prison would have taken you down an entre too. Evidently not. And I
- 18:03do really enjoy like Crocodile and the serious, sort of dead pan quality of
- 18:12his interactions. He's just fun, man. I really hope that he sticks
- 18:18around again a little bit. Man. Here he says, get lost,
- 18:23you jackal, and he creates one of those like sand cyclones and dope.
- 18:27Flamingo is just up in the air a ball of feathers, and as he
- 18:33falls towards the ground in a very controlled way, is like, man,
- 18:38I really thought you could be reasoned with, but I guess not. So
- 18:42we go back to Buggy at this point, who is with amongst his men,
- 18:48his back turned and doesn't realize that this whirlwind is coming at him and
- 18:53it sweeps him and a bunch of his men up. It's like just collador
- 19:00damage. And it's clear Crocodile does not notice, and even if he did,
- 19:04he would not care. But I didn't find it really funny that Buggy
- 19:11is so uninvolved overall with this fight that he's just over here being like accidentally
- 19:17swept up into things in a very little real way. Excuse me. So
- 19:22now we go to Boa, who's arguing with Smoker. She I'm so sorry.
- 19:27Hold on you guys, let me take a sip of water. I
- 19:29don't know why I have hiccups all of a sudden. I didn't at the
- 19:33start of the episode, so what the hell? Okay, Boa once again
- 19:44calls Leafy her husband. The last time that we saw her like fantasy about
- 19:49this, it was the wedding, her walking down the aisle. This time
- 19:55it's about the honeymoon, and she's the way this is written, it's her
- 20:03and Lufy like sitting on the bed clinking. Champagne glasses him still in his
- 20:10white tues with like a giant lily in the buttonhole, and she says,
- 20:15let us absconde into the depths of amorous euphoria, which I swear to God,
- 20:26you guys, I I kind of I need to like make a little
- 20:36list somewhere of like phrases that I come across in things that I want to
- 20:41reuse somewhere else. And I don't know where I would, you know,
- 20:45maybe I'll write a character at some point who says the goofy shit like this,
- 20:49But abscone into the depths of amorous euphoria is the most spectacular way to
- 21:02say, we are going to fuck like bunnies. That's what we're gonna do.
- 21:06Actually, And even in her fantasy, she can't just let herself like
- 21:14have a good time. Lufy is like, why don't you know what if
- 21:18I get too famished by our love making? Basically, my darling cook for
- 21:26me so I can taste your love. And so now she's like, oh,
- 21:33cooking, okay, yeah, let me let me figure out how I'm
- 21:38gonna do that, and comes back to the presence sort of with like,
- 21:42I really if I'm gonna marry him. I have to figure out how I'm
- 21:48going to be able to keep him like satisfied in a physical, like non
- 21:52sexual way, because he has a truly legendary appetite. And she's we see
- 22:02like a montage of her carrying fish like that look like they're at least fifty
- 22:07pounds and stirring these huge pots of soup with like the kind of stick that
- 22:14they use really for laundry, and with one foot like braced up on the
- 22:19edge of it. I the whole thing here of figuring out, like,
- 22:26oh, I'll need to cook for him is actually kind of genius, like
- 22:30I realized when I stopped and thought about it. When you're considering a relationship
- 22:34with somebody and like what the future would be like together, you think of
- 22:37these sorts of things you consider, like, well, how would XYZ work?
- 22:41Because they're interested in this thing? Am I also interested? Is that
- 22:47something that we could do together? We would have to like account for that
- 22:51in the ways that we each approach something. And so her sort of stopping
- 22:55and being like, I'll have to figure out how to cook. It seems
- 23:00like all of her faces while she's doing this are very it looked almost angry
- 23:08a lot of the time. So at first I thought what I was getting
- 23:11off her was that she was like a bit upset at the prospect of having
- 23:17to cook for him, But as it went on, I started to be
- 23:22like, wait, maybe not. It seems like she's it's more like just
- 23:25determined, and she's super excited about it, and she's got this huge like
- 23:32cart that she's pushing, piled with food. And then we come back to
- 23:37her in the presence saying, I'll gladly pray embrace any challenge that life throws
- 23:44our way because it's worth it, anything's worth it to be his wife,
- 23:49and she giggles, has her hands clasped in front of her, completely lost
- 23:57in thought, and we come back and Smoker's standing there going, what the
- 24:03I can't tell if she wants to fight me or not. This cracked me
- 24:11up. I think the reason that it got me so much is like there's
- 24:17a lot of other much more comical characters that she could be doing this with,
- 24:21but Smoker's very serious, like he takes himself super seriously, and so
- 24:25him being the one that she's fucking with, and he's willing to sort of
- 24:30wait and give her space and be like, hold on, let me see
- 24:33here. If I don't want to just attack, if she's not intending to
- 24:38fight me, I'm not an asshole, so let me give her a second.
- 24:42And he does, and it seems like she's forgotten he's even there,
- 24:45and so he doesn't really know what to do or how to handle that.
- 24:49I thought that this was really really fun, and I just wanted to mention
- 24:53too, like I know that occasionally we'll sort of stop and consider who we
- 24:59want to be cast in different roles, and I was thinking about, like
- 25:03the way that we would do Captain Smoker. There was some fancasting online that
- 25:07I thought was really interested interesting. I saw somebody suggest Henry Cavo, but
- 25:14to be honest, I'm thinking of Captain Smoker as a lot older than that.
- 25:18There was a cosplay done by this dude who looked a lot like Jeffrey
- 25:22Dean Morgan, and it was pretty hot, and I was sort of like,
- 25:26Okay, you know what, Jeffrey Dean Morgan actually would be pretty tight.
- 25:32But if we were going to ignore the fact that he has such an
- 25:36imposing physique and is really wide the attitude of Captain Smoker, I feel like,
- 25:42we could do quite well with a Timothy Oliphant type, even though he's
- 25:47very narrow and has much more of a sort of cowboy vibe. Smoker does
- 25:53have in a way a cowboy vibe himself. It's just you know, a
- 25:57cowboy cross with like a WWE wrestler. But yeah, so anyway, I
- 26:04just enjoy the fancasting and I also I was thinking about who would play Boa
- 26:11because, like, the the thing with Boa is that she is a really
- 26:18funny character, but she doesn't know it. And so honestly, thet my
- 26:26instincts that I had when I was going like through my mental rolodex of who
- 26:30would be good for her, I landed on Jenny Slate, who plays Mona
- 26:38Lisa Sabristine in Community No Sorry in Parks and rec And, uh, I
- 26:45don't know where that came from. I feel like I kind of want to
- 26:51see that. She would play it a lot jokier and less serious than I
- 26:56imagine Boa in the show, but I feel like that could work. And
- 27:02she's so like obnoxious that her kicking down a sculpture that children made because she
- 27:11doesn't like how it makes her look, she could make that genuinely hilarious.
- 27:15So I think that I'm going for Jenny Slate for Boa. I'm just you
- 27:21know, we're just gonna do that anyway. I'm sorry, you guys,
- 27:26We're going I'm going off in so many different directions here. There's just a
- 27:29ton of fighting and it's all going on between different characters. So it's I'm
- 27:34having to like split my my conversation here in order to touch on everybody.
- 27:45She yells at Smoker at the end of this the only way you're getting past
- 27:48me is in a coffin, which was actually a very sick ass line that
- 27:52I liked a lot. So again, Loofy versus Mihawks still struggling to get
- 28:00past him. And I love the look when Lufy just comes straight at me
- 28:03Hawk and Mihok has an expression on his face. He you know, Mihawk
- 28:08is He very rarely changes expression. It's like the most you get out of
- 28:14him is a widening of the eyes for the most part, and you get
- 28:18it here, and you get it when he is up against this other dude
- 28:22a little bit later. So yeah, there's no denying his fighting skills have
- 28:27improved, but I've already seen all his moves. There's no chance that I'll
- 28:33miss again, not this close. And he's saying this to himself as Loofy
- 28:38is running toward him underneath the huge like cyclone of sand, and Lufy grabs
- 28:52Buggy out of the cyclone and he yanks him down in front of him and
- 29:00uses him as a human shield, to which Buggy yells, what are you
- 29:06doing? I'll die? And I was like, you'll die? Why,
- 29:11sir? Your whole thing is that you can get sliced a billion times and
- 29:15nothing happens. It's like it's like Buggy forgets his own powers occasionally. And
- 29:23I love the fact that Lufy says he heard Buggy say, don't mind me,
- 29:29I'm here to save you. He's like, that is certainly not what
- 29:33I said. And then he says gum gum human shield, which I just
- 29:40don't think you need gumgum ahead of that, because it's not your body that's
- 29:45doing anything. You're just chucking Buggy in the way. And Bucky gets sliced
- 29:52into literal ribbon like strips and is angry about this, so he chucks a
- 30:02Buggy ball at Meehawk, who in the most careless fashion, knocks it back
- 30:07toward him like he's, you know, like he's just playing tennis, and
- 30:15it slowly comes over to Buggy, who says, would you like to hear
- 30:18a joke? How's the buggy ball like a robust financial market? I don't
- 30:27know how is it? Say it together everyone, because it goes boom.
- 30:36That was really bad, you guys, that was terrible. It was so
- 30:40bad. I really love that the joke they came up with involved a robust
- 30:48financial market. I mean, I guess I suppose it's not what I would
- 30:56have reached for. I'll just say that, but sure, why not?
- 31:03So anyway, this again is buying time for Loofy and he runs away and
- 31:10Mehawk is like spots him and is like, what the fuck, We're not
- 31:12done, and he does another strike toward him, and all of his strikes
- 31:17I want to mention like it's bright green light. It's like green tinge with
- 31:22a little blue, so it's not exactly like a lime green, but it's
- 31:27cool looking. I really like it. And he is about to go after
- 31:33him again when this dude jumps in named Flower Sword Vista, and evidently Meehawk
- 31:41knows this dude and is impressed by his reputation. This guy is very large,
- 31:49and he fights with two swords. So they have a whole uh,
- 31:56you know, back and forth that lasts for pretty much the next two episodes
- 31:59until they find I only agree, like shit's going in a different direction.
- 32:02We're gonna have to wrap this up, and I'm gonna sort of jump ahead
- 32:07here because I'm over halfway through the time I have and I haven't even gotten
- 32:13through the first of these three episodes. But honestly, I think for a
- 32:16lot of this that's okay because talk about filler in the next couple of episodes.
- 32:22Next episode ends with white Beard getting stabbed, and this dude, fucking
- 32:31We start episode three with the longest slowpan along the face of every single character
- 32:43and their reaction to white Beard getting stabbed. We see the reaction of anyone
- 32:50who happened to be within twenty miles. It's so funny, Like you guys,
- 32:54I was. I. I started the third episode and I got distracted.
- 33:02I think there was like somebody delivering something at the door, and I
- 33:06got up to leave. I saw that we were doing the very opening of
- 33:08the react shots. I got up to leave and grab the thing from the
- 33:12door and come back. And I was planning to jump back a minute or
- 33:16two, and I came back and we were still doing that slow pan and
- 33:23it lasted for like another minute and a half, and I was just sitting
- 33:28here like I really thought I was gonna have to go back. I do
- 33:30not think I have to go back. Nothing, nothing has happened. We're
- 33:34just establishing that this thing. Oh my god, so let's see. Oh
- 33:42I forgot about Mihawk because he's fighting with with what's his name? What is
- 33:49his name? Flowers Flower Sword. Sorry, guys, I know that Florian
- 33:57made me this thing, and I'm gonna open it because I have it my
- 34:00like other bookmarks. But this dude, he's like fighting him, and Mihawk
- 34:07is thinking to himself his power isn't in his strength. And I'm thinking that
- 34:14he's talking about this sword fighter that he is currently obianced, like silly me,
- 34:20thinking that Mihawk is focused on the fight in front of him. It
- 34:23turns out he's actually thinking about Loofy and what he thinks to himself is his
- 34:30power is to rally those around him. That he basically managed to escape Mihawk's
- 34:37attacks because so many people were trying to help him out that it wound up
- 34:45not mattering if like he was a better fighter, that's just that wasn't the
- 34:51crux of the issue. So yeah, he says, of all the people
- 34:57seeking to conquer the sea, he may possess the greatest talent of all.
- 35:04And I really like that in particular because it seems like this is what we
- 35:10already know about louviy, right, He just manages to inspire loyalty in people.
- 35:17And it's a really tricky thing because like being able to inspire loyalty in
- 35:23people is one of those like talents that is very based in a lot of
- 35:34ways solely on your personality, And so what you can get into is a
- 35:39sort of ticklish cult of personality situation where like, you know, you've got
- 35:46somebody who, even though they mean well, if everybody just like does what
- 35:52they say because they are the boss and they are so admired, it can
- 35:57go very very badly. But I feel like Loofy inspires loyalty despite the fact
- 36:06that a lot of people realize that he isn't like smarter than them. It's
- 36:10his spirit rather than his intellect, which I feel like is almost a perfect
- 36:16recipe because then you've got folks second guessing him and being willing to argue with
- 36:22him in a way that if he were a different type, they might not
- 36:27have the courage to say anything or disagree, you know. And I really
- 36:32feel like keeping somebody from getting almost like too much sway over others starts to
- 36:40become more and more difficult the more loyalty they have inspired from those around them.
- 36:45And it's a really funny thing that can be like totally weaponized, Like
- 36:51you know, celebrities, depending on the way that they try and approach this
- 36:55sort of thing, absolutely out how to weaponize their fan bases. I don't
- 37:01know how many of you have been in on the beef between Meg and the
- 37:06Stallion And I was about to say Cardi b no Nicki Minaj, But Nicki
- 37:12Minaj has these fans who are so defensive of her that they're out here like
- 37:19boxing people who talk shit about her randoms on fucking TikTok, just sharing their
- 37:24opinion, people who don't have any power or don't know anything. And her
- 37:30fans are so psychotic about nobody getting to talk shit about their queen that they
- 37:38go to these lengths that are just bizarre. And similarly, Taylor Swift has
- 37:45this going on and When I talk about these two women, I'm saying it
- 37:50because I feel like it's very purposeful what they're doing. Nicki Minaj knows that
- 37:52her fans get like this, and I feel like she really encourages that she
- 37:58is messy and very like tacky in the way that she approaches her beefs and
- 38:05has no problem like getting absolute strangers to do some of her dirty work.
- 38:10And Taylor Swift has done this very interesting thing with her fan base. She
- 38:14has had a couple of like interactions with fans where she has made it seem
- 38:19as if every fan is one step away from actually becoming her in real life
- 38:24friend. There was a whole thing where there was like some fans that she
- 38:29randomly selected to come to her house and she baked them cookies and they got
- 38:32to listen to the new album like ahead of everybody, and it was a
- 38:37sort of it was the sort of thing that like they weren't anybody, but
- 38:44all of a sudden, they're getting to hang out with their idol. And
- 38:47it really created this like idea in so many fans heads that she is so
- 38:53grounded, She's like, oh, practically one of us, any of us
- 38:57could be her friend and she would embrace us us And it's a really different
- 39:02tactic than somebody like Beyonce, who her whole thing is aloofness. She isn't
- 39:08friends with anybody, she isn't available in the like you don't see her getting
- 39:17photographed by the paparazzi going out to Starbucks. She's not showing up to like
- 39:22events like you know, Taylor going to these football games and stuff for her
- 39:27boyfriend to support him. Beyonce isn't out in the world in this way,
- 39:30and she isn't in gossip stuff, and she doesn't interact with fans on that
- 39:36level. So for her, the cult of personality thing, which she very
- 39:39much has going on as well, has a totally different feel to it because
- 39:44she is like this almost like deity like figure, whereas Taylor's appeal is that
- 39:51she isn't aloof that, she is very available and feels like a real person.
- 39:57And I just think it's just interesting, you know, the way in
- 40:00which who these people are, how they decide they're going to lead, and
- 40:07then the types of people that follow them based on their own preferences and desires.
- 40:15And so my personality as somebody who is hugely visual a perfectionist and really
- 40:27loves like sort of aspirational shit. It makes so much sense if you step
- 40:31back and look at it, that I am a Beyonce stan because the fact
- 40:36that she doesn't interact in like a daily way allows me to project onto her
- 40:43kind of anything I want, which is fantastic for my type of personality.
- 40:49But a lot of people are not like that. I don't want to know
- 40:52too much about the celebrities that I like. I want them to keep their
- 40:57mouths shut and stay out of shit so that I can continue to enjoy them
- 41:01without feeling like they're about to step on a landmine any second because they just
- 41:06can't shut the fuck up. And I maintain that overall, a lot of
- 41:10celebrities could learn a thing or two from Beyonce's. Her branding is so locked
- 41:16down that it's a little extreme, probably for certain types of performers and stuff,
- 41:22but overall, I think just letting your work speak for itself and not
- 41:27engaging on social media and things as much is likely to serve you better if
- 41:35you've become a big enough star. Anyway, I'm so sorry I got off
- 41:37on this tangent you guys, but you know, just talking about loofy and
- 41:40the way that he sort of operates, and it's not like he wants to
- 41:45become King of the Pirates. It's not like he's not after this goal.
- 41:50But I don't I don't think I stopped to really consider the fact that he
- 41:55says I'm going to be King of the Pirates, and yet everybody that he
- 42:01gathers along the way so far, you know how much they feel like family,
- 42:07and how much he dedicates his own energy and resources to keeping them all
- 42:14safe. I don't think I really thought about the fact that saying like my
- 42:19goal is that I'll become King of the Pirates isn't totally fair. He is
- 42:22saying like almost we are going to become kings of the Pirates, and like,
- 42:28yeah, he'll be the guy in charge like on paper, but he
- 42:35sees his friends as his equals in a lot of ways, and I feel
- 42:39like he's really seeing this as I'm carrying you along for this ride, you
- 42:45know, if this is about all of us. So anyway, sorry,
- 42:51guys, I know that I digressed quite a lot there, but you know,
- 42:53girls gotta do what she's got to do. So this is when we
- 43:01go back to Buggy. I love these dudes continuing to encourage him, mister
- 43:06three getting extremely like frustrated here, and then we have the narrator jumping in.
- 43:13And the world has been rocked by one revelation after another. And it
- 43:19all began with when more than two hundred inmates managed to escape from the iron
- 43:23tight prison of impel Down, and the most notorious prisoners have now taken a
- 43:28lead role in this epic battle. You guys, you know what I'm saying
- 43:34about, Like the filler here, we know we're watching this, We see
- 43:38what's We've been there for all of this. Why are we being told the
- 43:44summary of everything we have already? We we it's only we saw this age.
- 43:50It's still happening. It's literally in front of us. But anyway,
- 43:53so the populace of the world has no choice but to helplessly observe and knowing
- 44:00that the outcome will determine their very future. And I'm gonna be honest,
- 44:07I get what he means in like the abstract because of what we have seen
- 44:15of people having to evacuate. But there is a part of me that sort
- 44:22of felt like, is this gonna affect their few? Like I was thinking
- 44:25of it in terms of the Song of Ice and Fire aspect, where basically
- 44:31the people in the know they say that the small folks don't care who's on
- 44:38the throne. They don't give a shit. All they want is to live
- 44:44in peace and have enough food and for their children to be born healthy and
- 44:50grow old. And the person on the fucking throne is like largely immaterial to
- 44:55them. And that's sort of how I felt here, which was like,
- 45:00you know, I get that I'm supposed to think that this matters to these
- 45:02people, but it just feels like it doesn't actually have much impact on them.
- 45:08Really, I don't know how much of it will matter. So anyway,
- 45:15this is when the like whole shift of things with the people viewing on
- 45:22another island. They're on the what do you call it? Oh my god,
- 45:29you guys, I forgot the name of the bubble island. But yeah,
- 45:34it looks like these guys are going to kill Ace right here, right
- 45:39now, And everybody is sort of like, wait, did they change up
- 45:44the time already? Like what's going on? And Sengoku yells for them to
- 45:52shut down all of the cameras and we must prevail, oh, like we're
- 45:59going to stay up over the line, and it's too much for this naive
- 46:02world to understand, let alone see which if you're saying you guys aren't gonna
- 46:14understand it. So we're about to do something really fucked up and you can't
- 46:17see it. This is the sort of thing that I want to believe everybody
- 46:22would see through and be like, wow, if you turn the cameras off,
- 46:28it must be pretty awful, And that in itself really like shows you
- 46:32how bad this is about to be. But then I think about the fact
- 46:37that we have like cops who literally say, oh, really, is that
- 46:44how you want to act? Well, then I'll show you and then turn
- 46:47their body cam off and that's all on tape, and then suspect turns up
- 46:54half dead and everybody's like, wow, I wonder what happened wild, And
- 47:01it's like we are incapable of connecting those two dots. So, you know,
- 47:07every time that I start to be like this feels a little too obvious,
- 47:14I have to stop and realize people just don't want to know stuff sometimes,
- 47:21you know, So maybe this is actually pretty fucking accurate. So all
- 47:29right, anyway, this it turns out that the uh, the plan here
- 47:36had been We're going to pretend that we're accelerating the timing of aces execution so
- 47:44that we can lure all of these pirates into the bay and then close it
- 47:51off so that they are all trapped in here and we'll be able to surround
- 47:58them and take them down from the inside. And it didn't go the way
- 48:06that they planned. They're attempting to continue with what they like their original plan
- 48:13anyway, with creating these walls, but it's like the setup for it all
- 48:21isn't what they had they had promised. What is the name? I'm so
- 48:27sorry of the character with the bangs who shows up at the end of episode,
- 48:35is it too? But they're the one who's basically like yelling, this
- 48:39was not what you guys said the situation was going to be. We were
- 48:44supposed to be able to pick them off like fish in a barrel and they're
- 48:47all spread out all over the place. What the fuck? And at this
- 48:53point to sort of help contain them, we have brought out all of the
- 49:00Kuma's Kuma as an android guys, and there being so many of him is
- 49:07so bizarre, Like I just didn't realize what they were prepping us for when
- 49:14we saw Android Kuma turn up for the first time. I don't know if
- 49:17you call him cyborg? Is it cyborg? I feel like it must be
- 49:22cyborg because that's like a combination of human flesh and robotics, right, Saba
- 49:30Odi is the name of the bubble Island. Thank you, David, and
- 49:34Florian's reminding me their name is sant Tomorrow Is Sin Tomorrow man or a woman?
- 49:39I feel like it. I thought it was a woman, and I'm
- 49:44realizing maybe not. Not that I matters, I guess, but I was
- 49:47just curious. So I'm gonna sort of I have to speed things up here.
- 49:55I'm so sorry everybody, I've just gotten There's like a lot of interesting
- 49:59stuff going on, ssidering how drawn out a lot of it is. But
- 50:02let's deal with like the primary issue here, which is all of these Kumas
- 50:08who are absolutely laying waste to these other pirates. Like they are coming up
- 50:15against these Kumas over and over again with bazookas, giant maces, really thinking
- 50:22they're doing something, and the smoke clears, and that Kuma Bah is just
- 50:25standing there like nothing happened, completely unmoved and you know, knowing what they're
- 50:32capable of, the fact that they have so many it just seems like such
- 50:36an unfair advantage. I don't know how they stand against these dudes. But
- 50:40then we have the moment at the end of this episode which is really like
- 50:47sort of the most important part, which is when this guy his name is
- 50:53Squard, I think he is talking to white Beard about how much he and
- 51:05his men all owe him and how you know, we're here to lay down
- 51:09our lives and it's a privilege to do so. And I was sort of
- 51:15wondering what was going on because the vibe of this guy fell off to me,
- 51:22and it was like he was supposed to be sort of almost you know,
- 51:27declaring he's fealty, but the way that he was coming closer and closer
- 51:31to white Beard as he's talking, I was like, I don't really like
- 51:36this. What's happening here? And eventually he does a sneak attack and he
- 51:44says, I know you're a man who would do anything for his family,
- 51:49but the problem is we're not your family, and he stabs white Beard in
- 51:54the chest and we find out at the start of the next episode that he
- 52:02was told white Beard made a deal where if he brought this war against the
- 52:12marines, they would be attacking all the pirates except white Beard's own crew.
- 52:22Basically, you brought in all of these allies as distractions to do your dirty
- 52:29work because you knew it would keep your guys safe, which, like if
- 52:32he had thought about it for two seconds, doesn't make any sense any at
- 52:38all. There was like a moment where I stopped and I was like,
- 52:42wait, did he like oh? But then you jump to the scene where
- 52:46he's being told this by a marine, and I'm like, yeah, why
- 52:54do you believe him? Like I wanted there to be more of an explanation
- 53:00as to why he thought that this information was something that he could trust.
- 53:06And I don't know. I don't know if there's supposed to be like sort
- 53:10of subtext that he knows the sky from somewhere else that would feel like we
- 53:15have a previous relationship and that would explain it. But uh, yeah,
- 53:20this dude has been played Like I was gonna say a violin, but I
- 53:28forgot what show it is. They say, like, actually, a violin
- 53:30is very difficult to play. I played you more like the kazoo, like
- 53:34a cheap kazoo. That's what this feels like. He really thought he was
- 53:40doing something and I'm like, has it not occurred to you? That's just
- 53:45telling you this little fib and getting you to do the whole thing is a
- 53:50stroke like that. They can just stand back and let happen. You're delivering
- 53:55this dude on a plate like an asshole. Whoh. Meanwhile, as he
- 54:02is as this whole thing is happening, and we get the slow pan amongst
- 54:07everybody as they realize that he has been stabbed. Uh we have then the
- 54:15you guys the way that this uh thing with Buggy shakes out. It's so
- 54:23weird because he they have taken over the cameras and they're trying to do like
- 54:32a propaganda thing where they're showing how like badass Buggy is, but they're doing
- 54:40more than one take even though it's live, so like Buggy keeps fucking up.
- 54:46At one point, he has a nosebleed for some reason, and they
- 54:52just go back and have him like say the lines again and meanwhile saying,
- 54:58Goku's freaking out like what the fuck? I told you guys to turn the
- 55:00cameras off? What is this? And everybody back on Saba Odi is like,
- 55:07uh, why why are they showing us this we're gonna miss the execution.
- 55:14What is going on? This is not interesting, and I think that
- 55:20that is very funny. This whole bit. It reminds me of trying to
- 55:25record like a campaign video for like a local office and how awkward it is.
- 55:32But everybody gets to see the awkwardness. There's no cutting and editing first
- 55:37to make it at least feel a little bit more put together. Oh that,
- 55:43thank you, Florian. I had forgotten this aspect, and you're right,
- 55:45Florian says, I think part of with Squord is his hate for Roger,
- 55:50and white Beard did not tell them that Ace is the son of Roger.
- 55:53Thank you for reminding me of that, because I totally forgot about that
- 55:55aspect of it. But yeah, that's how this guy sort of feeds into
- 56:00is to just be like this, because I think the thing is that Roger
- 56:04like burned this guy's ships and killed his men, and so he has a
- 56:08grudge against him. And conveniently white Beard left out of his story with like
- 56:17come and help me rescue my guy that it was the son of this dude's
- 56:22enemy, and so the guy is feeling a way about that as well,
- 56:28which, uh, that's fair, you know, because he didn't know what
- 56:31he was doing keeping the ashes secret. But wow, you got played so
- 56:37hard. It's just embarrassing, so embarrassing. And there's a point at which,
- 56:46as he realizes that he has been played, he says, it's a
- 56:51miracle I was even able to stab you, and now it's your turn kill
- 56:57me. And he just stays and polds his arms out and it's just like,
- 57:02all right, go for it. And for his part, white Beard
- 57:08is like, you are a fucking dope. I can't believe you fell for
- 57:15that. It's truly tragic that you don't have more brains. But also I
- 57:22forgive you in an almost like sweet moment where this guy was not ready to
- 57:30be forgiven. You know, this dude just like got him right in the
- 57:37gut. I was sort of thinking at first that when he got him,
- 57:40we don't see any blood, and so there was a moment where I thought,
- 57:45maybe it didn't hurt him the way it would hurt anybody else, because
- 57:49there's not bleeding, and so it indicates that there's some kind of like other
- 57:53power going on here, and for all I know, that may still be
- 57:58true. But I will say that Arco, who is like Whitebeard's right hand
- 58:02guy. As of this moment, he is really really pissed at Squard.
- 58:10I can't say his name without wanting to kickle you guys, It's so it
- 58:15just feels like I'm not saying a real word, like I'm just using a
- 58:20sound from when I forget a name anyway. But yeah, he's like acting
- 58:28as if this was a mortal wound. And it might just be because it's
- 58:30the level of betrayal and not the wound itself, but uh, yeah,
- 58:36it's it's the vibe here of like white Beard. He is holding his hand
- 58:45over the wound, but it's not really like he's bleeding from another spot up
- 58:52near his mouth, I guess, like getting punched in the face or something,
- 58:55and there's a little blood coming out from under his hand. But considering
- 59:00that this is a gut wound, you would really expect it to be a
- 59:02lot worse. So I'm thinking, maybe maybe this is not what it looks
- 59:10like. However, he you know, regardless of whether it's a mortal wound
- 59:19or as bad as it looks, it's certainly gonna be a problem for him
- 59:23to be injured. He acknowledges like, you don't even know what you've done.
- 59:28You fucked up so bad. So let's see. I'm just trying to
- 59:34to jump ahead a little bit here because the speech about uh, everybody being
- 59:42a part of his family is sort of punctuated by white Beard managing to destroy
- 59:49the ice wall, and I don't know how he did that. We still
- 59:53don't really know what his power is, right like, not fully he started
- 1:00:01the what do you call it, the tidle wave, so I'm assuming he
- 1:00:07managed to break it via some sort of like earthquake ability because we've seen that
- 1:00:14before. But uh, yeah, that wall had been gonna be everybody's downfall
- 1:00:20how they were penned in, and it looks like he's just really solved that
- 1:00:23problem in one shot. I fucking love everybody yelling about like they thought that
- 1:00:30they they all believed what Squard said at first, and as they realized that
- 1:00:37he got tricked, Squard is just up there crying, and everybody around white
- 1:00:43Beard is just like, hey, can you forgive us for thinking the worst
- 1:00:45of you? Because you know, sorry, we're still on your side,
- 1:00:53so we have. Like the last thing that he says is basically, I
- 1:01:01am not gonna live forever. I need somebody to like step into my shoes,
- 1:01:07and if I can save this guy's life, I'll be able to retire.
- 1:01:13And you know, everybody helped me with this, like one mission,
- 1:01:19my last thing that I'm trying to do before I give it, like call
- 1:01:23it a rap on my career in this and then he leaps forward off the
- 1:01:30front of his ship and that's you know, that's the last moment of the
- 1:01:37episode. So this is I'm really curious because like we have only seen a
- 1:01:45tiny bit of what he can do. But Sengku calls him the strongest pirate
- 1:01:52in the world. And if he's saying that, I feel like that means
- 1:01:55something. You know. Oh, Floria's is the tremor tremor fruit. It's
- 1:02:00been said before. Okay, I didn't remember that. Sorry, guys,
- 1:02:07tremor tremor fruit. That's a good name, some of the fruit names I'm
- 1:02:09always I'm like, really, but I like that one. That one's cool.
- 1:02:15Uh, And yeah, where are you gonna try and make these walls?
- 1:02:19If you've got a guy who can do that, it feels like you're
- 1:02:22really just kind of wasting your time and everybody's time. But uh, it's
- 1:02:28not my business, I guess. So these were fun. I really liked
- 1:02:31these three episodes and looking forward to seeing where we're going here. Also,
- 1:02:37are we getting a check in with any of our other people at any point
- 1:02:42or are we just going through this arc straight up without you know it,
- 1:02:45like the way that we did with Impelled Down. I think it's going to
- 1:02:50be more like that, which it's interesting. I'm assuming that the reasoning behind
- 1:02:53this was because nobody but Loofy is of an adequate fighting level to be and
- 1:03:00amongst this particular crowd and make it, but maybe not. Maybe there was
- 1:03:05a whole other plan going on. So all right, I gotta wrap up.
- 1:03:08Thank you guys again, Thank you Florian for commissioning this, and Dave
- 1:03:13and Florian for coming to the chat, and all of you for listening,
- 1:03:15And until next time to BLEU motherfuckers. That was an Unspoiled Network podcast
