December 27 - Psalm 146 · A Chapter a Day Bible Reading

• 0:11
Hello friends, it's Sean here and it's Friday.
• 0:15
It is the 27th of December and what a week it's been.
• 0:20
Hey, we have celebrated the birth of our Lord and here we
• 0:24
are on the other side, maybe even getting to take it a little
• 0:28
bit easier. Maybe you've got more than just
• 0:30
a public holidays off. And what a lovely time of
• 0:33
relaxation this is. And if you're like me and many
• 0:37
other Australians, that means days with the Test match,
• 0:40
cricket on, dips in the pool, eating leftovers, just enjoying
• 0:45
a bit of time with those we love.
• 0:46
What a terrific time. And also terrific because we get
• 0:50
to read a Psalm together, friends.
• 0:52
Yes, today we get to read another Psalm of praise.
• 0:55
We are on the home stretch. This last handful of Psalms.
• 0:58
They are Psalms of praise. And today we are reading a Psalm
• 1:01
of praise to Yahweh for His help.
• 1:04
So let's just do that as we remember His incredible help to
• 1:08
the world at Christmas as we read together Psalm 146.
• 1:24
Praise the Lord, Let all that I am praise the Lord.
• 1:29
I will praise the Lord as long as I live.
• 1:33
I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath.
• 1:38
Don't put your confidence in powerful people.
• 1:40
There is no help for you there. When they breathe their last,
• 1:45
they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them.
• 1:50
But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their
• 1:53
helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God.
• 1:57
He made heaven and earth, the sea and everything in them.
• 2:02
He keeps every promise forever. He gives justice to the
• 2:07
oppressed and food to the hungry.
• 2:10
The Lord frees the prisoners. The Lord opens the eyes of the
• 2:14
blind. The Lord lifts up those who are
• 2:17
weighed down. The Lord loves the godly.
• 2:22
The Lord protects the foreigners among us.
• 2:25
He cares for the orphans and widows, but he frustrates the
• 2:29
plans of the wicked. The Lord will reign forever.
• 2:34
He will be your God, O Jerusalem, throughout the
• 2:38
generations, praise the Lord. Our Lord, you make a pretty
• 2:52
convincing argument through the psalmist that really, what are
• 2:56
we doing? Putting our hope and our trust
• 2:58
in anything other than you? Because the most powerful
• 3:02
people, yes, they will come to an end and their plans will go
• 3:06
with them. But you, you are the God who
• 3:11
made heaven and earth, the sea and everything in them.
• 3:15
You are the eternal God of our world.
• 3:18
And it is in you that we put our hope and on you that we lavish
• 3:23
our praise, because you are worthy.
• 3:27
You alone are worthy. And we lift our hands in praise
• 3:30
to you, our loving, incredible, saving God.
• 3:35
So we pray all of this in the name of your Son Jesus, Amen.
