- 0:11SPEAKER_01: Hey everybody.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: It's me, Davis, the handsome newsman.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: No, I'm not in disguise, but I am wearing sunglasses.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: I'll explain that in just a little bit.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Today, we've got a genuine combine cab confession lined up for you.
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: And we'll also talk about beans.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: Coffee beans, that is.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: From behind the big blue, bodacious microphone of Ag Bull, your pal Davis Michelson.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: Pleased as punched to be here with you on October the 22nd, October 22, 2026.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: It's a Thursday, already Thursday, everybody.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Today my guest will be Andrew Phillips from Farmers Fuel Coffee.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: Lots to get to there.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Andrew is in the Combine Cab itself, so we're going to get a report and just see how things are going there.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: But then I also want to learn about Farmers Fuel Coffee and uh turn you on to what those folks are doing over there.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: Let me encourage you to go to AgBull.com.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: As always, go to Agbull.com to check out our premium services or call us at 855-737 Farm.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: Don't delay, go to Agbull.com.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Kind of a Roy Orbison thing going on today.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: And I gotta send a uh a special shout out and a uh and a thank you to Jed and Tommy for taking over the show in the literally in the 11th hour yesterday.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: I uh sometimes I get migraines, and I get the kind to where you can't see.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: So I'm writing along la la la, gonna do a show today, la la la la la, and suddenly I couldn't see anymore.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: And so the result is I'm just just a little photosensitive today, a little sensitive to the light.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: And I'm being bathed in these podcast lights here, as as you may well know from my uh for my wide shots.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: And so I thought, you know, let's give the old peepers a rest because I gotta get out there to the people.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: I didn't want to miss this conversation, I didn't want to miss my time with you for another day.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: And uh so thanks to Jed and Tommy.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: That's why I'm wearing sunglasses today.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: No, it's not because I'm trying to be cool.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: I've got the shirt for that.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Hey-o! All right, welcome to Xquack.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: I'm glad you're here.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: I'm glad it's gonna be a great conversation here.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: Just a couple of things before we get to the combine cab.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: The uh 10-year yield traded under 5%.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: That's a pretty significant development, and I may need to rope in Tommy tomorrow to see if there's anything more to say at that point, but we're definitely keeping an eye on that.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: I've got a daily export sale to talk about.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: Private exporters reported another daily flash sale, this time 202,000 metric tons of soybeans for delivery to China in the 26-27 marketing year.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: And the weekly export sales, as you can see here on the screen, were lackluster for wheat at 240,000 metric tons.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: That was below the bottom end of the range of expectations.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Corn, meanwhile, bested the top end of the range of expectations at 1.52 million metric tons, and soybeans were a stout 2.8 million metric tons, four times the prior week, and near the top end of trade expectations.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: Quickly to the tail of the ticker.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: Corn and winter wheat futures were under pressure in early session trade today, with soybeans up about a nickel.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Livestock futures were lower across the board, with feeder cattle and lean hog futures neck and neck to lead declines.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: Rounding into the lunch hour, corn was retreating from early session highs and trading fractionally lower.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: So we almost got them on corn.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: We almost got there.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Soybeans were double digits higher.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: Winter wheat futures had recovered to very near unchanged.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: That around the noon hour, cattle futures remained under pressure.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: But lean hogs, ever churning, were trading on either side of unchanged.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Looking over at our settlements.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: All told, I've got December corn settling two and three-quarters lower on the day, 460 and one-half.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: November soybean futures were up seven and three-quarter cents to settle out at twelve fifty-three even.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: Soybean meal was mixed with the nearby contracts of soybean meal a little bit lower and a little higher in the deferred.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: Soybean oil higher across the board.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: And then over to the winter weed contracts, I've got December Chicago three and one half cents lower, six twenty-four and three quarters.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: The KC, a little tougher decline there, seven and a and a quarter cents lower at six sixty-five and three quarters.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: Over to the livestocks.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Not a great day.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: I guess, you know, the the fat cattle had a pretty good day.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: They battled back.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: It could have been worse, I guess, is what I'll say on the fat cattle.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Let's look at your feeder cattle down a buck ninety on the day, 346.92 and a half at settlement.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: Your fat cattle unchanged in the December contract, dead steady at 231.12.5.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: The October contract was off 67.5, and the February contract down 37 and 12, but unchanged on the December fats.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Everybody else pretty much lower as far as I can see here.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: And over to the lean hogs, your uh December lean hogs 17 and 12 cents lower, 65.55 at the close.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: And let's see, settled out 50 cents lower in the feb, 25 cents lower in the April.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: The April lean hog contract now at 72.45.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: I think that takes care of all of that.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: One thing I need to mention, we're gonna talk about farmers fuel coffee with Andrew Phillips in just a second.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: But I I just want to highlight this.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: A portion of every sale, a portion of every sale at Farmers Fuel Coffee uh goes directly to Farm Rescue, helping family farms stay in the fight when disaster strikes.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: From their website, drink coffee, support farmers.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: It's that simple.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: And now with his very own combine cab confession.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: Very pleased to introduce Andrew Phillips from Farmers Fuel Coffee, Farmers Fuel Coffee.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: Andrew, we've got you there in the Combine.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: What's shaking, buddy?
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, hopefully, hopefully you guys can hear me alright.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: I'm just taking corn right now.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: Picking corn right now, and then fill coffee orders later tonight.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: That's kind of how it goes around here.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: So you're you're up in southern Minnesota, if I'm not mistaken.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: Can you can you help us orient you geographically just sort of generally?
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so southern Minnesota.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: I guess the closest bigger town would be Elbert Lee, just a little bit north of Albert Lee, in between Albert Lee and Oatana.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: So Heartland, Minnesota is the township that we're a part of.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: You all have had a couple of uh pretty decent growing seasons if you put it all together over the last five years.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: How are you looking this year?
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: This year is unbelievable.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: We needed it too.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: We were just perfect.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: The rains we got were perfect, missed all the bad weather.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Uh last year, last year we had way too much water, but this year we're looking really good.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: How's the yield monitor treating you?
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: And we don't have to go specific numbers, but just uh according to maybe APH or or however you want to handle that, you're doing doing better than expected, not quite as good as expected.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: We've I saw some numbers on a yield monitor, and we're picking or cutting soybeans that I've never seen before in our area.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: That's excellent.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: That's excellent.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: I'm sure glad to hear that.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: So you soy nice and green this year.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: It looks pretty.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: Excellent, excellent.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: You uh you seem to be handling that combine pretty well.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: You were born and raised farm boy there in southern Minnesota?
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: I've helped on the farm for as long as I can remember.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: And actually, so this is my first year, I guess, being like full-time on the farm, you could say.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: With did all our planting, did all our combining.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: So my dad also so it's me and my dad, but he also works another job, so he's actually gone right now.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: So I get I get the big man seat right now.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: Well, you were you weren't well young fella there.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: How was that always the plan for you?
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: Were you always gonna it was gonna go to the farm?
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: I went so I went to South Dakota State for two years, but it's kind of interesting.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: I actually went there to play baseball.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: Um player, and that that was otherwise that plan was just always to come back to the farm.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: And I also started a coffee company at school.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, always is a plan to come back to the farm.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: So okay, and yet in the meantime, while you were moonlighting, off off in the big city, getting uh getting yourself educated, you you decided to get into coffee.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: And I'd I'd like to steer us toward that.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Can you tell us a story of of how that happened?
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: How to tell me about your very first roast?
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: And uh because I have coffee.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: I've got coffee right here, Andrew, and when I when I drink it, I I feel nothing, you know, I feel emptiness inside.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: So I I'd be curious your insights on on what uh what decent coffee looks like and and how you know it.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: How did you start?
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: First, I gotta ask what's in that cup.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think it's something the wife got at Walmart.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: I'll be honest.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: It's a cure egg cup, it's a K cup.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's even worse.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: We'll get we'll get into that later.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: Uh I appreciate it.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: I need help.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: I need help, Andrew.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: So yeah, started.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: So I was not so to state.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: Supposed to be playing well, playing baseball, supposed to be studying egg systems technology.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: But my second year there, so it was thanks to baseball that I started drinking coffee.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: I hadn't even drank coffee my whole life, but just with workouts and everything, I needed something.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: So my roommate introduced me to coffee.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: And I guess I'm just kind of an entrepreneur at heart, but I noticed that the coffee that I was drinking, which was specialty coffee, had a really good mission behind what they were doing.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: And then I kind of noticed that a lot more specialty coffee companies that are successful have a really good mission behind what they're doing, and whether supporting veterans, first responders, firefighters, whatever.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: But there's nothing that gave back to the ag world.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: And that's when I just thought I could probably every farmer I know is drinks coffee, and I could probably build something to get back to the ag world, the life that I live.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: So I just kind of did some research and I found farm rescue right away, and that really hit home for me too, because we had an instance on our farm where 12 years ago my grandpa had an accident when he was still really involved in the farm and hit his head, and it took him out for the fall.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: He's all right now, but that fall was really hard, and just the the friends and family that we had step up and neighbors to help us out.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: It is exactly what farm rescue does.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: And when I saw what they do, I was like, that's who we're gonna support.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: So it made it really easy figuring out who I wanted to support with the coffee company.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: I know some of those folks over there at Farm Rescue, and before I started researching for this program, I didn't realize that you guys went that extra mile to give back to the ag community.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Just in case the the viewers and listeners out there may not know, a couple of friends of mine are involved over at Farm Rescue, and basically what they do is if there's there's an injury or some sort of event to where there's a gap, they need help bringing the crop in, doing this, doing that.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: They need some sort of help on the farm.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Farm rescue will hop in there and help out, for example, you know, help you finish picking crops or whatever it might be.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: That's what farm rescue does.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: Andrew, that's uh that's terrific that farmers fuel coffee is is is is throwing their support behind behind those folks.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: It's a it's a really great uh operation.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: And I as soon as they're done, they're a little busy right now.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: I was talking to them just today.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: They're a little busy at present, as are you, but uh, I'm gonna get them on here and I I want them to have a platform here to talk about what it is that that they do that's so that's so important.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: It's it's awesome stuff.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: It's great that you're that you're throwing some of your proceeds their their direction.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, how long have you been doing that?
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's awesome.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: Having them on the show, that that'd be really cool.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: So it's two years ago I started this and I built the whole thing to support farmers.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: I mean awareness to what we're doing and everything.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: So when I first started this, I mean, obviously, I can't just go say we're supporting farm rescue and use their logo and stuff just right off the bat.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: So I emailed, I just went onto their website and emailed the generic contact us form.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: And it was a couple days later, Tim Sullivan emailed me back, and he was the executive director at the time and basically told me just that's an awesome idea.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: Yes, absolutely.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: You can use our name, our logo, all that stuff.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: And it's like, holy cow, I didn't really, I had no idea what I was gonna get back.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: But that that email just like showed my dad, like pitched him the idea, and like, we're doing this.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: I mean, we're gonna learn how to roast coffee, we're gonna figure it out, and so yeah, it's been coming up on two years, so we're still relatively new, but we've grown a lot, and we roast and package and do everything right on our family farm.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: We have a dedicated roastery building now, so it's really cool.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: I feel that we do all this on our family farm, and then it's just it's to give back to farmers and ranchers and just the egg community.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: That's outstanding, sir.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: Now, I know that that first that first cup of coffee, such as it is here in in my home, but just the smell of it, or like you walk into a diner, you can smell the coffee cooking, coffee brewing, and it it's it's to me, it's very pleasant, and to a lot of people, it's like ah, you know, it's it's a it's one of those those smells of civilization that we all kind of enjoy.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: It's almost universal.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: I wonder if you're roasting coffee right there on the farm, you must smell that smell all day long.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Does that take some of the shine off of it?
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Is it like, uh, there's the coffee smell again?
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Tell me about that.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: That's funny you say that.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: My dad always jokes, but but he's not really joking that we have one of the best, probably the best smelling shop there is uh on a phone.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: It never gets old.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: It's especially with during roasting.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: It's so the coffee goes through a bunch of chemical reactions and changes, and one of them is just releasing pressure, so it's called off-gassing.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: And when they do that, it fills the shop so strong.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, we get kind of get used to it, but if somebody walks in there for the first time, I mean it kind of blows you away the smell.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: But the coming out of the roaster, the exhaust is super comparable to the smell of drying corn in the fall.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: Oh, I wouldn't have guessed that in a million years.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: So you went from not drinking coffee at all to now you've built uh a roastery there.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: Let me ask you this along the way.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: Did it help your swing at all?
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: Did help your baseball swing?
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: I I I don't think so.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: It probably took away a little bit too with with focusing time elsewhere to try to build a business.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: So well, I snooped your website, bro, over there at farmersfuelcoffee.com.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: First crow, bronco bold.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: That'd be the one that I would want.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: Bronco Bold.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: Unleaded decaf, French vanilla, rescue roast, French porch roasts.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: There's a there's a whole bunch of different varieties that you folks offer there.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: That's uh that's gotta be quite the operation with if you're making your own roasts like that.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: It's it's definitely tricky to balance and find time.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: Obviously, right now, like I'm in the combine, and I actually had to an hour ago had to head back to the shop to load a truck with three pallets, heading to Bomgar's distribution center, and then it's just kind of finding time at night to roast the coffee, and then I'll I have I have a lot of really good help too during the day to grind coffee, fill bags.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: I got well basically my whole family helps.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: Um, like I said, my dad's a part of the business too.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: But I mean, I got three sisters, and all of them have helped and then the one's a stay-at-home mom, so she's there all the time too, helping.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: But my whole family is a huge help to kind of get this operate, keep this operation moving.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: It it's quite the operation, too.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: You're you're in stores, there are subscriptions available, you got merch, and you drive combines.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's a lot to hold together.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, I uh did I see that you're uh you're at the high V in Austin, Minnesota?
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: So it it must take a whole bunch of you to keep all of that together.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: You do you do you have regular coffee meetings together so that you're all on the same page, or how does that work?
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: We we need to start doing that right now.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: I just have a text group with all of us in there, and I'll just send a bunch of updates.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: But yeah, we're in we're in high B's, but but some of the biggest achievements is you can find farmer's fuel coffee in every single bomb yards and every single runnings, and that was a huge milestone for us.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: Just and it's it's awesome because our first big rollout was in runnings, and I actually met with their buyer for food and beverage, and just such an awesome guy.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: And it it's because of him that we're getting into some of these more accounts because I mean he has a pretty big voice in the retail world, and he's like suggesting us to other people.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: And I mean, they I that guy has been awesome from runnings.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: Well, everybody look for uh farmers fuel coffee in your local grocery store or go to farmersfuel.com.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: You can just order some there.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: You can get a subscription, they'll send you they'll send you your fix.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: I don't know, I suppose once a month or or however you want to set it up there.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: I even noticed you got the dogs involved there.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: The dogs seem to approve, and any operation.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: I got a picture from your Facebook here of I don't know who this who this might be, but uh a final you got there who's in favor.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: That's copper, and it's actually we're going through a little bit of redesign on our bags, some professional help, but I'm all the better.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: And the one thing it's there's gonna be kind of an Easter egg.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Copper to be hidden in all of our bags moving forward.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's really good.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: Copper hidden somewhere in the artwork of all the bags moving forward.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: That's uh this loving every second of this.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: I don't want to take up too much of your time today because because I know you got more important things to do than just fiddle around with us here, but you know, on your logo and on your website, there there's a component of faith that that I'd like to just discuss just a little bit.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: And I wonder where does that come from?
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: How does how does faith inform what you do?
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: Why, why was it important for you to make faith a part of this operation?
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, faith is just a huge part of my life, and it always has been.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: I mean, like thinking back to high school, I don't know if you've ever heard of FCA, but but I was an athlete in high school, and so I was a leader with our FCA, which is Fellowship of Christian athletes, and just I mean, it's always been a huge part of my life, and I feel like God has just opened a lot of doors for me, and with this, I mean it was a big, a big risk for sure, but I just had this feeling inside that this is what I need to do.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: So I actually so I I did two years at South Dakota State and then started the coffee company and then left school and just thought this is what I need to do.
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: And I mean, we're giving back with it and just trusting God along the way.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: I mean, everything we do is just just trusting God and knowing that the Yeah, it's just a huge part of everything we do, too.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: And well, that's outstanding.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: I'd love to hear that.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: I was in the FCWB, the uh fellowship of Christian Water Boys, actually.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: They wouldn't let me into the Fellowship of Christian athletes.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: I couldn't make the cut.
- 22:26unknown: Couldn't make the cut.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: Sorry, I had to.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: I had to.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: Hey, just one more quick question, and then we'll we'll give you a second to kind of kind of hop up on a soapbox and make sure that we've hit all the high points here for you.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: But uh I see you were at Ag PhD Field Day over in Sioux Falls.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: Did you guys make it over there?
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we did.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: We actually they're right next to Farm Rescue, which is awesome.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: I got in contact with Zach Hefty and he helped make that happen.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: And he's he's been awesome.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: He's they they they order our coffee and have it in their in their offices and stuff over in Baltic.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: But yeah, he helped us get set up at the field day, and that was really our first event like that, and it was just awesome getting to share our story, be right next to the farm rescue people, because they're just awesome, and you kind of push people their way, and they would push people our way, and it was just awesome getting to be in front of such a big audience and trying to share our story a little bit.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: And it's a it's a great story to tell.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: Well, like I said, I'll let I'll let you get back to more important things, but but first is you know, let me let me just give you a moment for the elevator speech for the for the bullet points.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: Just you know, give us give us a little little shameless plug here on farmer's fuel coffee.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: So like I said, I mean started it in my college apartment, never started a business support or done anything like that.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: And I just like I said, we had that accident in our college.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: When I seen what farm rescue does, I just I knew from there that that's who we wanted to support and try to promote with it.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: So just growing it from my college apartment to learning how to roast coffee and like the roasting process.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: I actually read a book here first time to try to learn it all and to throw it to what it is now.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: We're actually outgrowing our building.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: Just there's not enough warehouse space or anything.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: So but it's it's awesome problems to have.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: And just just seeing seeing where it's grown and how where we can take it to is awesome.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: There's about so just when people hear the story and the whole farm rescue thing, they just want to help out.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: So we've been able to work with some pretty big companies too on some custom branded stuff.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: So I don't know if anybody's gotten the Pioneer Z series bags, but we sent out 3,000 bags, worked with Pioneer on a custom branded project, and they sent them all over the country.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: So that was us that filled those bags.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: They made it look like their Z-Series soybean bags, so that was pretty cool.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: Another thing we just did, Fent has their harvest tour.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: So we'd worked with them on a custom bag for fueling the harvest tour.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: So it's got their combine on the front and kind of got their dates and stuff on the back.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: So that's actually going on right now.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: For fueling the harvest tour.
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: So that's another really awesome thing.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: They're all everybody's just great to work with and wants to help out.
- 25:33SPEAKER_00: And yeah, it's just been really cool seeing where this thing has gone.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: Well, and yeah, not to not to overplay, but I don't I'm not sure that we can overplay, but you seem like the kind of guy we go we get back to faith.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: When a door opens, you you've got the faith to take that step through it, and it feels like it's uh it's serving you very well, sir.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, just it it's been awesome.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: Um yeah.
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: Trust God, trust his plan, and I mean doors keep opening.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: So we're actually in on in November, we're doing an event with farm or going to a farm rescue event where we're gonna be able to kind of don donate some more coffee to them and then also give back a little more at that event.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: I'm excited for that because I mean everything everything we've given back has just been like little donations, I guess.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: And just for marketing purposes and stuff, it'll be fun to be at an event where we connect a little more just because of how important that is.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, are you a people person?
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: You like to get out there and shake hands with the people?
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Or uh I I get a little creeped out in crowds.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: I I'll do it, I'll do it, but I then I gotta go be alone for a minute.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: I never have been, but I'm learning now.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: I mean, we've I think one of the scariest things I've done, honestly, was I spoke at an FFA event, and I was so scary because I'm speaking to people more around my age, but I don't really have a problem when it's people older than me, because I mean being a young business owner, a lot of the people I work with are older than me, and it's like, oh well, but speaking to people my age, that was kind of scary.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: But and we also we've had a bunch of groups come out and tour the air, the roasting building and learn about it.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: And I'm I'm getting more used to speaking in front of people, kind of.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: I mean well, it sounds like a skill that will uh that will serve you well for a good long time.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: You you guys are off to a fantastic start there.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: I love love what you've got going there.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: I'd really like to touch base with you again sometime, maybe after harvest and uh a little closer to Christmas if you're if you're willing, man.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: I'd I'd like to come back and hear more of your story.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: What do you say?
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: I that'd be awesome.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: I appreciate you letting me hop on here for a little bit.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: I really appreciate it.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, man.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: This is this is great.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: Thanks for sharing your cab with us.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: That's Andrew Phillips from Farmers Fuel Coffee, farmersfuel.com.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: Hey, while while you're there, you got a big window in front of you.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: I like to get a weather report from the people that I talk to.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: What's uh current conditions right now, baby?
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: Let's see if I can put this thing around.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: Oh, look here.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: First hand view.
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: Oh there we go.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's 70 and sunny outside.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: It's beautiful.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: So that's about dang perfect.
- 28:35SPEAKER_00: Sun is shining somewhere up there.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: It's it's hot outside.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, you get you step outside, and it's it's just the silly, silly weather right now.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: You wake up in the morning and it's like, where's my jacket?
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: And then and then you're throwing the jacket as far away as you can in a couple hours, and then we'll get done here at night and head back to the farm.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: I'll be trying to find where I put my jacket.
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: It's it's goofy.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: Well, it's it seems like things are going very, very well.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: And uh, it's it's great to meet you.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: I'm glad our audience got a chance to take a gander at you.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: And that was a great view right out the front of the combine there.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: Andrew, Andrew Phillips from Farmers Fuel Coffee.
- 29:15SPEAKER_01: Check him out on Facebook, y'all.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: Go to uh farmersfuel.com.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: Let me hit the National Weather Service here quickly.
- 29:23SPEAKER_01: They say temperatures will be below average in the west thanks to unsettled weather.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: An amplifying upper level ridge will promote above average to well above averages for temperatures with some record minimums possible over parts of the northern central plains and the upper midwest.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: The harvest window, still wide open, gang.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: Get out there and get her done while you can.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: Surface high pressure over the east will support clear skies as well as average to below average temperatures through this weekend.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: A few items of mild interest according to popculture madness.com.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: These will be before your time, Andrew, but I'm gonna throw them out there anyway.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: On this day, October 22nd, in 1811, it's the birthday of Hungarian pianist and composer Franz Liszt.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: Now, you piano players out there, you know if you listen to Liszt or even look at some of his music, it looks like the dude must have had four hands.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: 1811 he was born.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: In 1962, the clock in the Cuban Missile Crisis ticked on October 16, 1962, when President Kennedy was informed that a U.S.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: spy plane had detected medium-range missiles that could target large parts of the United States on October 22nd.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: That's today, 1962, Kennedy announced the discovery on television, saying he would impose a two-day naval quarantine on Cuba.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: And uh a little quote, he said something to the effect of uh, why don't you point those things someplace else there?
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: And today's thought to ponder, Andrew.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: If I had a dime for every time I didn't know what was going on, I'd be like, Why do y'all keep giving me all these dimes?
- 31:08SPEAKER_01: But um bump.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: All right, Andrew Phillips, Farmers Fuel Coffee.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: Bro, thank you so much for spending some time with us, for sharing the cab with us.
