Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Craig Way with you from the broadcast booth at First
- 0:04Speaker 1: Bank Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. Tomorrow, the Texas Longhorns take
- 0:09Speaker 1: on the Vanderbilt Commodorees here in this very cozy or
- 0:15Speaker 1: cozily confined configuration here because they've got the renovations going
- 0:21Speaker 1: on on one end past the what would be the
- 0:24Speaker 1: south end zone, and that's that's going on. It is
- 0:28Speaker 1: reduced seating capacity they're going to have right around twenty
- 0:31Speaker 1: nine thousand. We'll be able to be here for that
- 0:34Speaker 1: and that's it for the game tomorrow. Now, they'll be
- 0:37Speaker 1: there'll be some long worn fans here. The plane flight
- 0:41Speaker 1: that it was on this morning was just packed full
- 0:43Speaker 1: of burnt orange, and there were other flights as well
- 0:47Speaker 1: going on, so there will be there will definitely be
- 0:49Speaker 1: Texas fans here, but the preponderance of the fans will
- 0:53Speaker 1: be obviously wearing black and gold for Vanderbilt, and their
- 0:56Speaker 1: students will be out in force like they were for
- 0:58Speaker 1: the Alabama game. So it's it's one of those deals
- 1:02Speaker 1: in a tightly confined facility where the long wrornes are
- 1:06Speaker 1: gonna have to come out and play well coming off
- 1:10Speaker 1: the loss to Georgia taking on a Vanderbilt team. You heard,
- 1:12Speaker 1: if you were listening last hour Steve Sarkisian saying their
- 1:17Speaker 1: five and two is real. Is what he meant by
- 1:19Speaker 1: that their record is real. Now the reel includes the
- 1:23Speaker 1: two losses. One of the losses was a very respectable
- 1:27Speaker 1: one in double overtime in Columbia, Missouri to a then
- 1:30Speaker 1: at the time seventh ranked Missouri team, And it was
- 1:32Speaker 1: only because Vanderbilt missed on a couple of field goal
- 1:35Speaker 1: tries it would have won the one that could have
- 1:37Speaker 1: won them the game in regulation that had missed earlier,
- 1:40Speaker 1: and then one that could have sent it to a
- 1:41Speaker 1: third overtime. There there was that there was one that
- 1:46Speaker 1: would be a head scratch of the loss to Georgia
- 1:48Speaker 1: State out of some. But they also dealt with prosperity
- 1:53Speaker 1: well following the win over Alabama, going to lexing Kentucky
- 1:58Speaker 1: and beating Kentucky so and they did kind of get
- 2:02Speaker 1: involved in a bit of a sluggish game with Ball
- 2:07Speaker 1: State here last week. Our friend Greg Tepper from Dave
- 2:11Speaker 1: Campbell's Texas Football Magazine would say that Vanderbilt perhaps in
- 2:14Speaker 1: that contest played with its food a little bit, but
- 2:17Speaker 1: they did pull away in the fourth quarter to win
- 2:19Speaker 1: the game, and so they're five and two. There, one
- 2:22Speaker 1: went away from Bowl eligibility, and that would be huge
- 2:26Speaker 1: for the Commodores considering they went two to ten a
- 2:29Speaker 1: season ago. But the road is not an easy place,
- 2:35Speaker 1: and for that matter, the home games not easy either.
- 2:39Speaker 1: The rest of the way. They go to Auburn next week,
- 2:43Speaker 1: then they host South Carolina, might need their best chance
- 2:46Speaker 1: to win a game down the stretch in those final
- 2:49Speaker 1: few weeks. Then following an open date, they go to
- 2:51Speaker 1: LSU and they finished with Tennessee. So tough, tough closing
- 2:56Speaker 1: schedule for Vanderbilt, but they just need one more win
- 2:59Speaker 1: to become Bowl eligible. We mentioned the fact that the
- 3:04Speaker 1: SEC Student Athlete Availability Report was updated and in other words,
- 3:14Speaker 1: the injury report and for Texas, Andrew mccooba still listed
- 3:20Speaker 1: as doubtful, Isaiah Bond downgraded from questionable to doubtful. I
- 3:25Speaker 1: think doubtful's the best way to describe it. I doubt
- 3:28Speaker 1: that we'll see either of those guys on the field tomorrow.
- 3:32Speaker 1: But Sark talked about this on the air on Longhorn Weekly.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Because they are deep at both of those positions, both
- 3:40Speaker 1: at wide receiver on the offensive side and then in
- 3:47Speaker 1: the secondary on the defensive side that they can absorb
- 3:50Speaker 1: a loss and still get quality play on the offensive side. Yes,
- 3:54Speaker 1: Isaiah Bond is their leading pass catcher. He's got twenty
- 3:57Speaker 1: three passes for three hundred eighty yards four touchdowns, averaging
- 4:01Speaker 1: sixteen and a half yards per catch. He's also had
- 4:04Speaker 1: the two big running plays, including one for a touchdown.
- 4:07Speaker 1: So they do lose him if he is unable to go.
- 4:10Speaker 1: And again he's listed as doubtful, so I doubt we
- 4:12Speaker 1: will see him tomorrow, but they've gotten plenty of contributions
- 4:16Speaker 1: from other people. Matthew Golden's only one catch behind Bond
- 4:20Speaker 1: for most catches on the team, and he is averaging
- 4:26Speaker 1: just under fifteen yards per catch. He has three touchdown catches.
- 4:30Speaker 1: DeAndre Moore has now started to explode through. He has
- 4:33Speaker 1: eleven catches, averaging fourteen yards per catch and has scored
- 4:37Speaker 1: three touchdowns. Ryan Wingo, the freshman, may get his first
- 4:41Speaker 1: collegiate start tomorrow. He's caught sixteen passes. He's averaging nineteen
- 4:45Speaker 1: yards per catch with two touchdowns this year. Obviously, Jayden
- 4:50Speaker 1: Blue catching passes out of the backfield He's caught twenty
- 4:52Speaker 1: one passes out of the backfield, their third leading receiver
- 4:57Speaker 1: and has three touchdowns. Of those guys, he would be
- 5:02Speaker 1: actually the fourth leading receiver I mentioned Bond number one,
- 5:05Speaker 1: number one among wide receivers wide receivers leading receiver on
- 5:09Speaker 1: the team is Gunner Helm the tight end. He's got
- 5:12Speaker 1: twenty seven passes for three hundred and seventy three yards
- 5:15Speaker 1: and two touchdowns. He's averaging just under fourteen yards per cat.
- 5:19Speaker 1: So it's not like they don't have weapons. Silas Bowden
- 5:21Speaker 1: has also caught ten passes this season. They have Johntay
- 5:26Speaker 1: Cook who's caught eight passes and a couple of touchdowns
- 5:30Speaker 1: this year. Ryan Niblett obviously can catch passes and then
- 5:33Speaker 1: line up in the backfield as well. I think Trey
- 5:35Speaker 1: Wisner will be okay. In fact, in that player that
- 5:42Speaker 1: Student Athlete Availability report. Good news in that Tray Weisner's
- 5:49Speaker 1: not even listed on the report. That means he's good
- 5:51Speaker 1: to go. He had to be limited in practice him
- 5:54Speaker 1: during the week with that sore shoulder from that hit
- 5:57Speaker 1: he took that Sark certainly thought could have, if not
- 6:00Speaker 1: should have been called a targeting call against Georgia. But
- 6:04Speaker 1: it's good that he's able to go and come off
- 6:06Speaker 1: the injury report, which means he should be ready to
- 6:08Speaker 1: go for Vanderbilt. The one guy who's listed as questionable
- 6:13Speaker 1: as their corner Kolbe Taylor. The other guys had been
- 6:17Speaker 1: either questionable or probable. They're all probable now, Eli Stowers
- 6:22Speaker 1: the tight end linebacker, Langston Patterson running back aj Newberry,
- 6:25Speaker 1: who's the backup to Ceder Calexander. Alexander listed as probable
- 6:30Speaker 1: now when he had been listed as recently as yesterday
- 6:34Speaker 1: afternoon as being questionable. Martell Height cornerback, listed as probable,
- 6:39Speaker 1: Miles Kpler's the edge rusher, is probable, and Linus Sunk
- 6:43Speaker 1: defensive lineman listed as probable. Only zalem Wood defensive lineman,
- 6:48Speaker 1: Mark Davis corner and Grayson Morgan, an offensive lineman, are
- 6:52Speaker 1: ruled out of the game tomorrow afternoon. Of course, our
- 6:55Speaker 1: coverage tomorrow afternoon will begin at hi noon, coming your
- 7:03Speaker 1: way at noon from Twin Peaks down south at Stasney,
- 7:08Speaker 1: and that's where Cameron Parker and also my Cardbowl Hard
- 7:15Speaker 1: and also Mark Henry will set the stage for you.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Now I have to ask you, Cam, you know what
- 7:23Speaker 1: they like to say at Twin Peaks, eats, drinks, scenic views.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Who which of the three of you will be most
- 7:32Speaker 1: consumed with the eats? I think I know the answer
- 7:34Speaker 1: to that. Which one will be most consumed with the drinks?
- 7:37Speaker 1: Which one will be most consumed with the scenic views?
- 7:40Speaker 2: Well, Mark Henry does not drink. But if you've been
- 7:44Speaker 2: listening to the station, you probably have heard our promo
- 7:46Speaker 2: play a few times where Mark Henry says, I like
- 7:50Speaker 2: the flaps, And to clarify, he's talking about the wings,
- 7:55Speaker 2: y'all the flappers on the wings. So he'll be most
- 7:59Speaker 2: concerent zoomed with the food. Hardball will be most consumed
- 8:04Speaker 2: with the drinks. And then I'm not going to answer
- 8:06Speaker 2: the if there's other people that will be there. Hey,
- 8:11Speaker 2: I'm focused on Vanderbilt, right, I'm focused on Vanderbilt. But
- 8:16Speaker 2: gonna be a fun show again. We'll be live on
- 8:18Speaker 2: thirty five in Statty Twin Peaks location noon to two.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Butt like drink specials. And here's a throwback name for you,
- 8:27Speaker 2: Craig Thomas Baskins, the former Texas Longhorn defensive lineman for California. Yeah,
- 8:35Speaker 2: number ninety will be joining us for our Longhorned Legend segment. Well,
- 8:40Speaker 2: Chip Brown from Horns two four seven, he'll hop on
- 8:43Speaker 2: live from Nashville. Of course, we'll visit with you and
- 8:46Speaker 2: Roger Wallace in the First Bank Stadium Broadcast booth. We'll
- 8:50Speaker 2: get Mike Harges's Keys to the Game, Mark Henry's hype train.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Gonna be a lot of fun. So if you're not
- 8:55Speaker 2: in Nashville looking for a place to pregame, come out
- 8:58Speaker 2: to Twin Peaks.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I'm glad you got the big field coming out. Thomas
- 9:00Speaker 1: Baskin was one of my early favorites in my time
- 9:04Speaker 1: in the booth there in the early years. You know,
- 9:08Speaker 1: when I started in ninety two as the analyst with
- 9:11Speaker 1: Bill Schoening on the play by play, it was he.
- 9:15Speaker 1: He was one of one of our favorites. He was
- 9:16Speaker 1: always a lot of fun to talk to us. I'm
- 9:18Speaker 1: I'm glad Thomas Baskin will be there for you guys tomorrow.
- 9:21Speaker 1: All right, up next, we're gonna shift gears and talk
- 9:26Speaker 1: some Long Worn basketball. Rodney Terry a segment from last
- 9:29Speaker 1: night's Long wornon Weekly, kind of an overview of this
- 9:32Speaker 1: brand new season with so many new faces and and
- 9:36Speaker 1: yet some very recognizable quality returners as well, as we
- 9:42Speaker 1: continue on this Friday afternoon on sports Radio AM thirteen
- 9:44Speaker 1: under the Zone and the iHeartRadio app.
