• 239 vidare1: Welcome to Vardas Prepping, an ideal podcast without advertising for those who want to strengthen your preparation and have fun at Hi! Come I had less fun yesterday when I was going to tell you about the game, but now I've started playing and I'm going to tell anyway. I pack some food in big boxes. And then I in and put it order, I'm doing the order after my stories. Then after a while I thought, what the are my glasses? no. You would have packed them in mule They had a box that I had carry and I had open the lock and so on. here's your box. And I thought, what the have they just the road? And then I'm gone. It's very strange. So when you're prepping, what you Cynil cord or never take off your glasses? Several pieces in each room. But it's a stupid thing to say. I had these bombs when I went out the woods and a lot of moose in the Peril and Urn space that held them in place. When you put on your backpack and went on a thing, then phew, then they away. You become a little handyman when you don't really need them. Exactly. Well, one thing that or who returns with our listeners who have been there from the beginning. A little point is that we can sometimes give ourselves a little too much that we focus on those who are to start prepping or those who have started prepping. We've read a few times, we, Patrik? Yes, we have. So we thought we would... And this is not for them either. But we thought we would take next step. How you take yourself from one week to a month, which we recommend that you have preparation for if you daily prepper. So keep on prepping. Or I don't know, upgrade your prepping or I don't know what to call it. Step up. Take the challenge and lift it to the next level. I think, want to believe that if you to this podcast, you are not on a week to start with. But as usual, I think this could be a good basis for someone is experienced and who talks to someone who might only have a week at home. So that you can give ideas to that person to influence others. And you about that the previous episode as well. That we would come. That this episode would come. Right, we said previous episode that this would come now. And now it's Now it's coming. But we wanted Emil to be part this episode as Exactly. you could say that one month I've least, and then it's clear that we're going share that experience. And there three different entrances to how we live. Exactly. Let's see, did we any... Unlike the first start prep scene, where we were hard-wired on... ...hopping, and water, and food, and medicines. and tools and such. This is not as a fixer, or how should say it? It's not so spray controlled. No, definitely not in the same way. No, at all. But it's a little more discussion questions in six episodes, think it It was about. Then we know how good they usually keep these. The planning too. Yeah, fantastic. Well. But I was just if you just started listening now and you feel like, I want to talk to someone in the middle the what's the idea? What can you do? Call her. Call her. Who also the same place. Otherwise you can ask all your questions on Facebook. And there you get answers. yes. And won't get an answer like, damn, you know What? You only one week's break. You any such answers, but nice, encouraging answers. Many nice, helpful people who want to tips and thoughts and advice. Now I'm going put Emily on the podcast. If you're a listener like that... I've through a two hundred, three hundred episodes and then I felt like, shit, I want to give something to these guys and this girl and help them their work. What can you do then? Yes, pep. It started with P. Yes, thought you said that. No, I said pep. Now we it the What's it Patreon. Patreon is the Yes, I know. Or you listen. And then you can give a review in that pod reader. Or you can go to our YouTube channel and some episodes. Then we a few crowns on advertising. For our patrons, we have been very clear that we do not any extra episodes for them. We do not any episodes and then there is a part for them. There is little extra material for them. It's Martin and I who have made it. Yes, exactly. Our conversations from the episode sometimes and so on. But nothing that is recurring. If you a patron, get nothing for that. It's very selling. More help us. More help us. And that whole thing that I do, it's very grateful. That's a little pep then. Yes, it's really pep. Yes, then I we can get this then. Patrick, how should we start? I think we should start by resonating there. Why did the put it on a one week level? So you can start there and understand why they it there. Because it is a marginal, a shorter material marginal for society to get in order. And if they had said that all people would have a month's preparation, how few would have got it then? We see that very few people have created a week that they should have. But we recommend a month. It is our recommendation, because the situation in the world is developing as it does. I think that a week... If it depends on when you have traded, if you think you have a week, then maybe at beginning of week you have the whole stock and in end you have worse. And that's probably what you're taking out on, because you might start to two or three weeks and then it's too much, too much power. But three days, then it might be too little, because then people might too little to handle themselves. But as you say, it's great. you say, to handle a week you need to do your regular weekly routine and then two days later you a weekly routine again. Just for that. you have least a week without problems. And you don't about what you need to you. But the prepping is so much more than that. And in my world, I that I have a week's prepping, then I the to manage two weeks. Do you agree? Because then think that when I have the worst, at least, then I always a week left. Your buffer is a week, that's not what you're living on. No, and I don't think everyone in the household thinks that. I asked my chat friend to check the Civil Defence to find out if the Swedes, their self-estimated membership, can a week. It's a very interesting figure if you believe in this, but quickly it that 2022 it had 37%. November 24, it had 44 % a week. And May 2025. 31. That's lowest we've ever had. And then September 2026, 50%. So it's less than, in the survey, less than half of households have a self-taxed, they themselves that they will a week. So that's a bit, even if it might start to sound a lot with 50%, it's very little. There are still five and a half million people who are not who don't have a type of But this result can be wrong, just so you know. But I think that since I said that it should be at on MCF's website. Between which age does No, you can go in and read it. Because it's a right-wing banana. It says that 59 % in the latest research give up 59 % that they have difficulties to ... to sufficient home preparation. So 50 % have it and 59 % have difficulty maintaining it. That's also a bit interesting. But that means that you may have a preparation but feel like you're just stalking around all the time. And could be interest or economy or something. We won't talk about in this episode. Interesting, but you can read on the of Civil Defense website. And this think is called... Sweden is good, but can do And it's a publication that was published in September There. You can google it. But you said, Patrick, sorry, I was a bit absent-minded and... I checked. The office wasn't really there. But this week... Yes, exactly. But that's a difficult balance. It's very difficult balance. It's just recommendations, but why don't them better? How many recommendations we during COVID-19? We on 31%, 47%, 51 % or whatever said these percentages were, but now we're much, much higher. We still had definitions of following the restrictions. Yes, exactly. That was a bit silly, I think. I worked in the I was very frustrated many times when people said they followed the restrictions and then I no, you really don't. No. But here we see that this is recommendation that you should have a home preparation at least a week. They rattle and you proposal on what you need in the brochure, but still, it's not many who do it. But I think so. In the proposition we talked about a long time ago, are two things. There is a demand, And then there a recommendation. The what are they called? The ones who did the study. They said that the inhabitants should have or should have. It should be like that. What are you talking about now? The only I always rattle about is the total defense proposition. It has been that the public's willingness and public's acceptance to sell off lower social services are the foundation for Sweden's resistance. And I don't think people really that. Their willingness sets a foundation for our resistance in the from that week to a month, the resistance is it's enormous. What I want get to is that this... The first time we read about this week, when we went from three days to a week, was those who made the proposition and had done the work. Their formulation was more of a forcing character. Instead of saying, do this if you can, but was like, it to work, have have this. Then the government has come with their recommendation, and I want to say that if you make recommendation, From a starting point, the recommendation should always be higher. Because you know that people don't that according to the I agree, I'm a little frustrated. Why didn't say two weeks then? And then maybe most people moved to one week, if can't it or something like So that's I mean. I think it's shame that they don't push more this. That is really not reason for our country's resistance to having a home preparation group. And so that we understand that we will get much lower social services. And this for lower social services, can also agree yourself thoughts when you are planning in your own preparation. Because what does social service Yes, means everything you do outside the That it will become much worse. Yes, what do you need to think about in your preparation? Everything you don't do yourself is social service of some kind. It's possible that ... It's to improvise certain things to solve them. You can have these thoughts, but the solutions you improvise take more energy and resources than you have in the past. Exactly. We've seen these, several have done these challenges. We Corp and Robin who do one year's challenge and then we someone who did one month. If you want to test press your weekly readiness, just like you said, if you a weekly readiness, have two. If don't care about the week and you what happens, test your weekly readiness and how well you have thought through. A friend of mine, she had another way to practice. She told her brother that one time during the spring, she should tell me that now Everything So here should start using what you have in a week. And then she has no idea where she weekly activities, what is for what, activities. She doesn't anything before. But he should just say, I think it's exciting to practice. Because then you really have no idea either. Then it becomes... It's like it's happening for real. And it's going to great. This with that it's to be fun to prep. That sounds really fun. For both... And under this bridge, even if he's a prepper, he should start thinking about it Then you kill two birds with one stone. They don't kill birds today, but they kill Two birds in one stone, that's what called. Exactly, that's a great thing. And you who haven't listened to the body-wrapping episodes with the original pieces, discussed them, just look up in our long list. One year after the Both before and after the Do remember Martin, we said we would do this before the episodes? That we haven't done. No, don't remember. That we would be prepared but have episodes we could recommend with episode numbers. It went like that with that. But that's can be. You I have a secretary who will it soon. Episode 239, which we released in February 2025. Is that you? It was probably after. But it's a follow-up episode. exactly. when you think about it, from a week to a month, you have to think about what problems you may not notice and some things immediately. It may not be that ... When we the child care unit, thoughts, we think about everything if we shut down and live in this. How did happen? What is not noticed since this has gone a little longer? What are the difficulties that we have not thought about? It is difficult to predict everything and what problems arise after a while. I'm of making things, something that might not come on first week. That it's really hard to know what's going on, but that you have backup to fix what you already have. Because first week is more a break. And it's about maintaining. I've had water for about two weeks in the dumps. But then I a plan for... I have people around me who have a runny and I also runny nose, so can clean if I take care of So you have to in that the first bit is for use and then a plan. Yes, that was well said. And I that the first week you don't to think about washing clothes and stuff. But if you suddenly sit in on week three and there's a mountain there, if you then change clothes and lie down as you do now on a Then you can imagine how mountainous it after three weeks. A huge mountain. It's same as when you start thinking about a toilet out here, a toilet. If you a week, you wouldn't have to think so much. If you think about a month, you to build a real toilet, think. There's also a And I also that you should... to there earlier. rather, what is going to happen? What it you should think about when you start to understand that it will take longer than a week? Because now, and it's probably the whole core problem with with a week. We think it's a week, Max. But what the do you when it's Monday again or Saturday or whatever, and then just, but it's not solved now. Why am I still in this situation? So that's starting to far before. It's very hypothetical question. But one thing I've been about is that if we week's preparation and the shit hits the fan on Monday, that means on Sunday... Then what we have been for this week is starting to out. And then you start to need... Now it's the end for We still to lose. We still don't Volt, their app, still The pizzerias are still closed. I'm hungry. Now have to start taking care of the business. There's nothing left. No, exactly. For everyone else, this week has been minus one week. So it's from day one. Then the question where should go? When I need buy new diapers, or toilet paper, or box wine, if I were go back to Covid pandemic and the most common goods. And what should I and this business against money, constantly. Yes, company is against it. Although now I'm when I say that. But it's actually one of the few institutions in Sweden that actually always has a significant amount of that you can pay in constant. That's only thing I've seen. It's the system company. That's the most thing. No, but how should you know? Where should I go? We can't know. to your other place, somewhere hidden. I do that, but if I had had a week, then I would have out in the looking for stuff and I wouldn't even checked what content I I think that if it takes a week, haven't prepared anything, I'll need, I don't know, bindos or something like that, then I won't get a fun solution. I won't get any bindos, then I'll live with something else boring. and those who have prepared have their own stuff. That's what makes the Because most people would probably it one way another. But the solution Yes, exactly. I think that's where it goes in this month, just like you said. If you're continue on the binding track, then it's the men's cup, for example. Or if you have children with bleaches, then might need to think either about layers or these fabric variants. I have a hard thinking about them getting fresh and clean. But it's still... But it's still a must to back to another alternative, at least. And I also about comfort. And now I to belittle it in any way, but binding feels like a very simple problem to solve before. yes. I swear you should say that you haven't had it, don't think about it. You want it. of doesn't a lot. only thing that they are quite expensive, I think. Not that buy them often. But not exaggerated. No. I when you buy it, you can buy two packages instead of one. Or if you buy two, you can buy three. It's actually a giant. Toilet paper is like that. It will always work. So can't do anything stupid like buy ... a wrong thing or something that tastes bad or something, but this will always go. It's like a basic need. So if you think about this after a week, it's possible to without eating during that week. Yes. But it's not fun, but it's even more boring to get menstruation during that week and not have breasts. It's going boring, say. Or if you children and don't have diapers. It's possible. It's directly dangerous, besides if they would poop on the floor. it's almost newborn, so it's a kind of baby bowl, and stuff is everywhere. And the market, babies run and... I don't know. Sorry, it was a long time ago. But it's definitely hygienic. need plan for that. And pee everywhere. What happens? If think about from one week to a month, it's not just about building on, continuing to build on what we've been about for month. No. Because the need is different. After a week we can prepare, we buy a week and trade a little more, then it's our stock left and we them left. But if we it for longer time, won't be food. It will be something else. We can go prepare some batteries, and then we have used them during this week, and then they're out. How do we about it? During a week's time, think about how much you and produce at home during a week's time. In the present situation. If it's crisis longer, there will be awful lot of falls. You pictures from the countries where has been a waste line and so on, have lined up which berries it will on the But the less fresh food and less of that, the will come. When we have been going for a week, can sleep little less during the week, because you can it. But then it has gone longer and longer time, it not work, because then you to to overcome. So there many things that accelerate after a week. Yes, and I think this is not you answer to. What is it is What happens? What is the I no idea. But thinking about a lead word, can be curiosity. That you are curious today and find out, like the soups for example. Be curious. If you live in a rental complex, you might problems with the soups. could be that the soups have been and that means that the guys won't and get them. Be curious. See how much it in a week. Then you can listen to For example, I can listen to myself in Stockholm and say, what happens if not soup guys? What happens if they strike? You can ask. In two weeks. It will always work. We will always come and Then you can say, but what do I If they don't come, what do I with my soups? This curiosity. Or you come up with your own solutions. Yes, that's nice. Then you want to it in the neighbor's yard. Yes, of it's a bad idea, but it's something you come up with. Or we burn it out on the farm. I think all the questions we've asked so far, you won't be to by getting an answer. You have be curious and you have to want to set up scenarios think in your head. That's where I want to And always a robustness in everyday life. Because then you have easier access to the solutions. Exactly. We need to creativity to find solutions. So we don't just sit around and say, no, now the tone is full. Exactly, no one today either. Yes. No, what do I then? There was a question that I didn't we went into. what you, which of the preps or these parts, which is it that can improvise in the future? That's a good question. If something what is the easiest way improvise? It's not food, I And not water. And not water. It's not to improvise. Not even how good you are. But I think one thing, which we often talk about, is warmth. There are a lot of when you talk warmth, are a lot of people who see themselves as some kind of gas stove or if in Villa, some... Now the is you, Emily. Yes, it's on its way. It's quite a hot time. Exactly. something. But what happens if you forget it? What can you improvise then? Wear more clothes. Wear outdoor clothes. Go down and the tent you're to have for Hultsfred Festival. But things you don't just because you got a gas stove. You can improvise quite well And can improvise that you jump and dance and play before you to bed and discover what fantastic invention it is. So there are things that even if you've missed and prepared, you solve, I And then there's also part of the healthcare. The is always for the band, it can be sterile, but if something happens, you can improvise. They on the naked. They are sterile. But it's better than nothing. But it's also very cheap to buy now. For the band. The can be cheap too. You can get them and wear them when they're in poor quality. You buy them as reserve. You want them sheets in bed, but you want them in I save the sheets that have been So you that. Or if other people need cloth. Perfect to clean windows with. When I choose to that. This is an interesting question. What happens when is no longer reasonable to just wait for everyday life to return to normal? We see Ukraine wanting a day where everyday life as possible, but everyday life, what is normal, can also The longer a war is, everyday life becomes something else. We get used to people are adaptable, we get used it. We're struggling a we it's difficult, but most us are on. I was surprised by how fast you Imagine coming back from semester. You have to long before you're your everyday routines. No. Not really. And to be go back to Corona. We got to it very well. It was an extreme situation. The with Covid pandemic is that when you try to back on how you were, that time was just a black hole. You think that it would have 2024 now, I Often when you talk about that, do you remember that thing? It must have been two years ago. No, was four years ago. Because it was Covid that ate up those two years. but that's probably a thought. indication that we are to in different ways. But... Yeah. One thing I'm about is with Redundance. A lot of these things we have bought, we have lot of stuff. How much do they if you really use it every day? How long is it? If there a longer crisis, things will go wrong. Do have reserve for these things? Do you have the to repair them? Even if you need to improvise, are you a person who can improvise something that breaks? It's also something you can practice on. Do you something at that breaks? Don't it away and buy a new one. Give it a try, try to repair it. Just to test your ability to find solutions. Yes, exactly. Without YouTube. Yes, without YouTube. Just be yourself, what are you doing at home? Yes, exactly. Yes, exactly. What would you if it disappeared? I was thinking about a month's economy. Would it Because think it could be something like happening too. You need to have some kind of savings for a month. If something goes wrong that month. We haven't even set premise of what this is about, but we just very generally. This can be a, what do it, casual prep or something. Your personal apocalypse. can be something that happens to and that the rest of society doesn't care about at all. can be a death case, getting off work, or getting really sick for several months without getting the salary you need. So that's also, for what we've discussed so we haven't said anything, but it's like a social crisis. Sounds like when we can't go pay in the store and stuff. But what happens if you don't have money after a week? Or maybe they're at work, or can be many things that happen, or you get sick. Maybe they're not able to to work and then suddenly you're there with less income. For me, the economy is absolutely in preparation. It's foundation for good preparation. So that you don't take SMS loans, have buy water filters and stuff. That's really stupid. Everything is in the of that. Sorry. No, I was just stupid. It's because you SMS loans before the apocalypse comes. Just before. One week before, so you don't have to pay. That social disturbance, we we never get No, really. I think we... I think we'll up in... ...that this was a clumsy episode. But it was an introductory episode. There are things we to listen to. This looks extremely different. We have three completely different conditions. and the big city Martin is in apartment, I live in a village and Emil lives outside the it's completely different conditions. Do you small children, you big children, you alone, do have a house, we all have three. So that's something you have to take in. The for us all together can be that we week's a month's preparation, but that... It's different. I think about this with YouTube, maybe YouTube, but in the situation we're in now, that you're trying to challenge yourself in some way to get to these things that we've been about. think about this with YouTube manual or whatever it is, and pick it yourself and teach yourself how it works. expose yourself to these situations that you might see could happen after a week or two weeks. So that you become invested in learning how to do it. It can be like, shit, I don't a water filter. How do I clean water then? Go get some sea water then. And then you'll get... But what other methods Have you tried them? Try them! Do it! How do you with salt water? Yes, things like that. But, well, there is a problem, I think. in this whole situation. I think I mentioned in the that one week is a basic requirement. To get longer, you have to be interested. If you want get up to a month, you be interested. Or to that you want have your children, I think it's boring with the but I want to responsibility for my children having food. hand of my family. It doesn't have to an interest. If you huge storage space somewhere, could have for a month. Yes, sure. But the risk is you're interested, maybe you've bunkered up the stuff. Certainly. Then maybe you only have canned food and no canned food opener. A lot of pasta or something all the time. And no cooking. No. The content can be good, but you have to apply some kind of interest. You have to open it. Yes, and I think that you have to know what it's about, but then have to know that this far from the whole. Yes, right. There a small pieces that you have forward, pushed in there. And you can open your pig's sorry, now I said wrong, so that you can understand what the means. Maybe I've opened my crisis box. And you out that little water filter. And then look at it and ask yourself question, is this for me for one week? For my whole family? How will it look when we use this a whole week? The whole family of five people? Is this what I should have? Or is there another solution? A little bit So you dare to challenge yourself, even if you a week to believe that you are through those things and you does this me? And sorry, now I'm to those who have bought a finished crisis box. Does this me? Or do I need to something to it fit me? But again, you have to be interested and you have dare to think that this week something might actually happen sometime. And you don't to be interested in the inspiration, but to take care of your family. You can put interest there if you think it's difficult. I'm interested in my family doing well. That's great. The first step I feel when I start walking from one week to the is there some questions that you can take with you. If this crisis becomes long-lasting, you thought, what will be your new... not your household's priority now. New priorities in your preparation. It sounds like you need a plan. There are things that can be under ongoing disturbance. don't that. There are things that can be for everything. Everything is not over. And some things people will not think about. And what are the amounts shortcomings? It can be about food or something. What is it about? What are these shortcomings about? What are they about? Are they shortcomings or have you Not shortcomings in numbers, but something have forgotten to think about all. And what shortcomings are about missing a plan? You said that it's a plan, how many times do we come back to that? All the time. Is there something that you can't solve by just buying more? It's probably a lot. It's probably a lot more than we think. what things are they? It can be different from person to person, depending on what conditions you have. So we'll send our listeners along, even if you ... Even if you already have a month, you can You can think of some things. For the next episode. Make an invention. In four categories. We already that we have last week. We will end first. We don't know how to solve And what is especially important in our household. Because we differ We have different opinions on different things that are important. Think about these things. It could be you who can't... It from a week to a month for you, it might fit from a month to three months for some. But the idea is can be the same, you can just change the time perspective there. And then think about these things, just take it first, and that's it. This is to be with me to the work as well. The supply preparation. Now when so many high demands are on the municipalities. These exact questions need the municipality to all the time. All companies. It's not just private individuals, it's the whole machinery. I think that one case you can go into is that you just to buy a little more. But you have to look at the whole thing. We need to here now, but I think that if you are new listener, you ask what else you need, then can listen to episode 319 or episode 118. What can the episodes be about, Patrick? think? I'm just on one side. I don't a clue. I actually don't have a clue, Staning. Number 180 is the one with advanced self-sacrifice, part two. And a continuation of 175, which was advanced self-sacrifice. And then 319, what did we together with MLE? The with self-sacrifice, 2026. Because that's we go into basics. There we have integrity. It's not just water and food. It's economy, can be health, and it's all of this. Because it's that, when you go from a week to this month, then it much more interesting and much more important. This complete self-estimate of household readiness. So, yes. I to a little plug there for the old episodes. Definitely. There's a lot to listen to. Yes, there is. But good questions. I think we should bring them and suck on that caramel. Because it is... I really that. Can it be something else? Or is it just about buying more of something? No, very often not. There must be another solution. Just a bad example. I have four... I'm so lazy, I don't from couch. I just watch Netflix all day. Is there missing in your plan now? Yes, you need to move on, otherwise you will never be to those four cubes. You will get a in first place, then will be sick instead. Yes, and have ruined your and probably hit your leg. A funny example, more doesn't mean better. Buying more pasta packages doesn't mean you can last longer. Now I'm going get in car and go to Strängnäs Market. Continue to follow here. I will. If it's next week or the week after, it It when it's time. And this is episode 1. of six. I'm saying a little bit blur so you can't hear me because you don't know, could be one of eight as well. thank you for listening.
