- 0:04Speaker 1: Here's your host, Ales Garrett. Well, you know you hear
- 0:15Speaker 1: that sounds you know what that means. It's NFL season.
- 0:18Speaker 2: I mean, I thought we were just talking about baseball
- 0:21Speaker 2: Memorial Day. Now we're in the fall. Terminielo State, lou Terminela.
- 0:26Speaker 2: How fast did this year go? That we are on
- 0:29Speaker 2: NFL Kickoff watch about an hour and a half away.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Well where did time go?
- 0:34Speaker 1: Louis Alex Garrett? Time flies? There is no true cliche
- 0:39Speaker 1: then time flies. And good to be back with you
- 0:43Speaker 1: for the start of another NFL season. Tonight between the
- 0:47Speaker 1: Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs should be could be
- 0:50Speaker 1: a preview of the AFC Championship game.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Of course, last year was interesting, as I'm not mistaken,
- 0:57Speaker 2: the Lions actually ran out of Arrowhead with that win.
- 1:00Speaker 2: And now look the Ravens. They're going with Lamar Jackson.
- 1:06Speaker 2: It's going to be a fun matchup. It's of course
- 1:08Speaker 2: going to be that MVP candidate thing already between Lamar
- 1:13Speaker 2: and Mahomes. But you gotta think, once again, they're heavily
- 1:18Speaker 2: favored to you know what, three Peter four pete, what
- 1:21Speaker 2: are we talking about? If they wanted to row, I'm
- 1:23Speaker 2: losing County.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Well, I think that you know the storylines in the
- 1:27Speaker 1: NFL this year. Obviously number one is going to be
- 1:31Speaker 1: the can a Chiefs win three Super Bowls in a row?
- 1:36Speaker 1: And I think they can. I know this is something
- 1:42Speaker 1: that a lot of pro people probably didn't see, but
- 1:45Speaker 1: a bunch of NFL players, I don't know. I don't
- 1:49Speaker 1: know if it was the entire league, but it was
- 1:51Speaker 1: a survey of NFL players counting down the top one
- 1:56Speaker 1: hundred players in the league. And they had I Reek
- 2:00Speaker 1: Kill as number one, and they had Lamar Jackson as
- 2:05Speaker 1: number two. And they had Patrick Mahomes, who I would
- 2:08Speaker 1: have picked number one without even blinking an eye, at
- 2:11Speaker 1: number four. So I could tell you one thing. The
- 2:15Speaker 1: Chiefs aren't going to be complacent. And Patrick Mahomes is
- 2:18Speaker 1: not going to be complacent. Don't think he doesn't know that.
- 2:22Speaker 1: And not only tonight won't he be fired up, but
- 2:26Speaker 1: he'll be fired up for the whole season. I mean,
- 2:29Speaker 1: the Chiefs are still in my estimation there, they're the
- 2:34Speaker 1: favorite team. I think they have a great, great, great
- 2:37Speaker 1: chance to get to the Super Bowl for the third
- 2:39Speaker 1: straight year and win it. Now, of course, anything can
- 2:43Speaker 1: happen in the NFL more than in the other league.
- 2:45Speaker 1: A bounce of a crazy bounce of football and injury.
- 2:49Speaker 1: And if Mahomes gets injured, the Chiefs are done. So
- 2:53Speaker 1: so we'll see. But Baltimore is very good. They're always
- 2:56Speaker 1: very good. They lost three guys on their offensive line.
- 3:00Speaker 1: That should be uh, that should be something that we
- 3:03Speaker 1: look at. But tonight's an interesting game and uh, I'm
- 3:07Speaker 1: looking forward to it. All right.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Well, you know that AFC West is is a little
- 3:11Speaker 2: more reformed because they have Jim Harbor out there with
- 3:14Speaker 2: the Chargers. You've got a a Raiders team. I think
- 3:19Speaker 2: that actually locked in with Antonio Pears to be their
- 3:22Speaker 2: head coach. I mean, you've got a lot of changes
- 3:25Speaker 2: out there in the AFC West. I think it does
- 3:28Speaker 2: make it more competitive. I think I know Zach Wilson
- 3:31Speaker 2: struggles here, but the Broncos also trying to level up.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I don't know whether eland Zach Wilson is. You know,
- 3:39Speaker 1: is the third string quarterback? Bow Knicks had a great preseason.
- 3:43Speaker 1: They drafted the number one overall. He's going to be starting.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And I think that's the second storyline in the NFL
- 3:50Speaker 1: coming up. There's gonna be three starting quarterbacks who are
- 3:54Speaker 1: drafted in the first round. That's going to start in
- 3:56Speaker 1: Week one, bow Knicks with with Caleb Williams, which with Chicago,
- 4:05Speaker 1: who I think is going to be very interesting to watch,
- 4:08Speaker 1: and Jaden Daniels with the Commanders. The last time this
- 4:13Speaker 1: many quarterbacks started in Week one, that were five rookie
- 4:18Speaker 1: quarterbacks in twenty twelve, Ryan Tannehill with Tennessee, Andrew Luck
- 4:23Speaker 1: of Indianapolis, Russell Wilson with Seattle and he was drafted
- 4:28Speaker 1: in the third round and he's still he still started
- 4:31Speaker 1: Week one. And if you remember, Seattle had signed Matt Flynn,
- 4:36Speaker 1: who was Roger's backup in Green Bay, to a long
- 4:39Speaker 1: term contract at Big Numbers. Then Robert Griffin third also
- 4:44Speaker 1: started in twenty twelve and he won the Rookie of
- 4:47Speaker 1: the Year. He actually beat out Andrew Luck and the
- 4:50Speaker 1: little known Brandon Wheaton who started for the Cleveland Browns
- 4:55Speaker 1: who will play at Oklahoma State and was like twenty
- 4:58Speaker 1: six twenty seven years old when he when he graduated.
- 5:01Speaker 1: So it's gonna be interesting. We'll get these rookie quarterbacks.
- 5:04Speaker 1: So that's something that we may not remember, but five
- 5:09Speaker 1: rookie quarterbacks start in twenty twelve and three are gonna
- 5:12Speaker 1: start on Sunday, so that's something to keep it.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Actually, Caleb, I mean, he looks good in practice and
- 5:19Speaker 2: in these preseason games. And the Bears, yeah, I think
- 5:23Speaker 2: because of the fact that, you know, the Vikings QB
- 5:27Speaker 2: situation with the JJ McCarthy injury, it's a little shaky
- 5:32Speaker 2: right now. And of course you know they're like Kirk
- 5:35Speaker 2: Cousins go and all that. But the Bears look like
- 5:39Speaker 2: a favorite, and I feel like it's been ages since
- 5:42Speaker 2: I ever said that.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I think that might be a little strong in my opinion.
- 5:47Speaker 1: I think they're gonna be very good. I think it's
- 5:48Speaker 1: gonna be very watchable. Can they contend for a playoff spot? Yeah?
- 5:52Speaker 1: Maybe I would say they might, you know so, But
- 5:58Speaker 1: I think Minnesota. They're well coached and Sam Donald isn't great,
- 6:05Speaker 1: He isn't bad middle of the road, but the Minnesota coach,
- 6:08Speaker 1: Kevin O'Connell's a pretty good quarterback coach. So we'll see
- 6:15Speaker 1: what happens.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Uh.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I think that. I don't think the Viking is going
- 6:18Speaker 1: to be terrible, so we'll see. You know. They open
- 6:22Speaker 1: up here in New Jersey against the Giants on Sunday,
- 6:26Speaker 1: a game that is very winnable for the Giants if
- 6:29Speaker 1: they're looking to get off to a fair start. But
- 6:31Speaker 1: it's a very very interesting NFL season and Alex, the
- 6:37Speaker 1: new kickoff rules are going to be are going to
- 6:42Speaker 1: be something that probably a lot of people don't realize
- 6:45Speaker 1: until they watch the NFL game this weekend. I don't
- 6:48Speaker 1: know how many people watch preseason games because nothing is
- 6:51Speaker 1: worse than the NFL preseason. But these new kickoff rules,
- 6:56Speaker 1: they're trying to increase the number of kickoff returns. Last
- 7:00Speaker 1: year was an all time low at just under twenty
- 7:03Speaker 1: two percent. In the Super Bowl, there was thirteen kickoffs,
- 7:07Speaker 1: all touchbacks. So what they're gonna do is the ball
- 7:14Speaker 1: is going to be kicked off like it did last
- 7:16Speaker 1: year from the thirty five yard line, and they'll be
- 7:20Speaker 1: ten players from the kicking team that's going to be
- 7:25Speaker 1: lined up at the forty yard line, not there forty,
- 7:28Speaker 1: Alex on the opposition's forty. And the receiving team is
- 7:34Speaker 1: going to be have nine players on the thirty yard line,
- 7:39Speaker 1: so they're only gonna be five yards apart, and then
- 7:42Speaker 1: they'll have the two the two receivers back and if
- 7:49Speaker 1: if you kick it through the end zone. It's brought
- 7:55Speaker 1: back to the thirty yard line, not to twenty five
- 7:58Speaker 1: as in the pass.
- 8:00Speaker 2: If you don't, well, that's a big one because I
- 8:03Speaker 2: always thought these guys were getting away with murder just
- 8:06Speaker 2: kicking it in the end zone, no great percussion. So
- 8:08Speaker 2: now you're forcing these guys to kick it before the
- 8:12Speaker 2: you know, the end zone. That's that's kind of a
- 8:14Speaker 2: big deal.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Though it is a big deal. There's there is something
- 8:18Speaker 1: they call the landing zone. It's from the goal line
- 8:21Speaker 1: to the twenty yard line. If if when a kicker
- 8:24Speaker 1: kicks off, if he's short of the landing zone, and say,
- 8:30Speaker 1: if it bounces short of the landing zone, not even
- 8:35Speaker 1: out of bounds, uh if even if it's in play
- 8:39Speaker 1: the receiving the receiving team gets the ball uh at
- 8:44Speaker 1: at the at the forty yard line. So uh you
- 8:50Speaker 1: know it's it's gonna be crazy. So it has to hit.
- 8:53Speaker 1: You gotta hit the twenty and if it you know,
- 8:56Speaker 1: if it if it goes through the end zone, like
- 9:01Speaker 1: I said, back to the thirty, but you can't down it.
- 9:06Speaker 1: You have to down it. You can't just let the
- 9:08Speaker 1: ball roll through around the end zone like last year,
- 9:12Speaker 1: if at the end zone, they automatic blue were dead
- 9:14Speaker 1: because they were trying to trying to save guys from
- 9:18Speaker 1: being injured. So it has to be returned if you
- 9:22Speaker 1: don't pick it up and it's in the end zone,
- 9:24Speaker 1: if the receiving team doesn't pick it up, but the
- 9:26Speaker 1: kicking team picks it up, that's a touchdown.
- 9:30Speaker 2: So well, we're gonna see, as they say, see how
- 9:34Speaker 2: it all shakes out on the field, because what you're
- 9:38Speaker 2: talking about, I think we have to see it to
- 9:40Speaker 2: know exactly what we're saying. But I think you've done
- 9:43Speaker 2: a damn good job. And i'd love to see Tom
- 9:45Speaker 2: Brady in his first booth appearance trying to analyze that slowly.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Have about that for you?
- 9:49Speaker 1: Well again, yeah, well Brady, Brady's going to be able
- 9:54Speaker 1: to understand the rule. But again, you could either you're
- 9:58Speaker 1: either going to get that to twenty, the thirty or
- 10:00Speaker 1: the forty yard line, depending on on what happens.
- 10:05Speaker 2: But if this was more about entertainment, not the safety side,
- 10:09Speaker 2: right or was it a mix of it.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Was more about entertainment, that's really what it was.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Because I mean, look, we've seen time and time again
- 10:16Speaker 2: in the last few years. No return the kicker freely
- 10:20Speaker 2: just kicking the end zone, and quite frankly, if you're
- 10:24Speaker 2: hitting it through the uprights, you know they should really
- 10:27Speaker 2: be flagged for that. I'm sorry, I'm glad there's some repercussion.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, again they're looking to put the kick off
- 10:34Speaker 1: back into the game, and again just recapping touchbacks in
- 10:39Speaker 1: the end zone will start five yards further upfield. If
- 10:43Speaker 1: the ball lands within the landing zone and becomes a touchback,
- 10:47Speaker 1: it's the twenty if the if it's if it fails
- 10:53Speaker 1: to be sure, if it fails to get to the
- 10:55Speaker 1: twenty yard line, which my god, a kick will have
- 10:58Speaker 1: to just totally is kicking, it's the forty yard line.
- 11:02Speaker 1: And so it's.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Uh, I can't see a windy Danny or the Buffalo,
- 11:08Speaker 2: Green Bay or Chicago and that happening.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Well, I'm glad you bring up a windy day in
- 11:12Speaker 1: Buffalo or Green Bay or Chicago. Because the NFL is
- 11:16Speaker 1: gonna have a twelfth player. No, not a twelfth player
- 11:20Speaker 1: like the Canadian football. He has for every play. But
- 11:24Speaker 1: if you have to hold it for the kicker to
- 11:29Speaker 1: kick off, like we've seen in the past, he will
- 11:33Speaker 1: hold it. And when a kicker kicks it, he will
- 11:37Speaker 1: tear to the sidelines. He can't be involved in the play.
- 11:41Speaker 1: He can't be one of the guys making the tackle.
- 11:44Speaker 1: So the twelfth man on a windy day is that
- 11:46Speaker 1: just to hold the ball so the kicker can kick
- 11:49Speaker 1: it off.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Well, you're saying they used to hold the ball and
- 11:51Speaker 2: make the play as well or be involved in the player.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Oh no, no, it was only eleven players.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, So really instead of deducing an extra
- 12:01Speaker 2: guy to hold it, they're adding this. I get what
- 12:04Speaker 2: you're saying.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Now there's going to be a twelfth player to hold it,
- 12:08Speaker 1: hold it for the kicker like we've seen on windy days.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Oh my god, loud, that's the perfect opportunity for a
- 12:14Speaker 2: fan to do that, just you know, bring him from
- 12:16Speaker 2: the crowd to do that.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Literally on the field and do that. Now, there's a
- 12:22Speaker 1: big change with on side kicks in my opinion, you
- 12:26Speaker 1: can only on side kick if you're trailing, and it
- 12:30Speaker 1: could only be done in the fourth quarter, and you
- 12:36Speaker 1: have to alert the officials so they know so they
- 12:39Speaker 1: know that that's coming, and you can and it's only
- 12:43Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter. So we let's go back to
- 12:46Speaker 1: Super Bowl forty four halftime Indianapolis ten in New Orleans six.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Thomas Moore Stead, who is now the Jets punter and
- 12:56Speaker 1: has had a great NFL kicking career, kicked off to
- 13:01Speaker 1: start the second half for New Orleans. They on side
- 13:04Speaker 1: kicked it. They recovered the on side kick.
- 13:07Speaker 2: They caught the most famous on side kick in history
- 13:10Speaker 2: in the NFL.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Well, if this rule stays, and remember these rule changes
- 13:14Speaker 1: are only for one year, so if they don't like
- 13:17Speaker 1: what they see, they can change these rules again. But yeah,
- 13:21Speaker 1: that's probably the most famous on sidekick, especially.
- 13:25Speaker 2: If Chean Payne had a lot of guts to do
- 13:27Speaker 2: that and it turned out, yes, he'd be a turning
- 13:29Speaker 2: point for the whole game. I think Breeze got back
- 13:32Speaker 2: on track after that. It was very very well.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Just think if the Cult recovered and they would have
- 13:37Speaker 1: to bail in midfield. You're giving Peyton Manning in a
- 13:40Speaker 1: high powered cold offense half a field. They were already
- 13:44Speaker 1: up ten to six. They go ahead seventeen o six.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Maybe that's the game. Well, tell us about the other changes.
- 13:50Speaker 1: I mean, I know we're dealing with offensive defensive pass
- 13:53Speaker 1: interference flags. That was a couple of years ago.
- 13:56Speaker 2: But I understand that a lot more plays can be
- 13:58Speaker 2: reviewed as well this year. Is that correct?
- 14:01Speaker 1: Well? As far as as reviews, there's going to be
- 14:06Speaker 1: an additional an additional review for each team. So if
- 14:13Speaker 1: if you've missed on your review, say tonight, Baltimore challenges
- 14:18Speaker 1: right away in the first quarter and it's not overturned,
- 14:23Speaker 1: but they review. Baltimore wants a review in the second
- 14:29Speaker 1: quarter for a play, they get a third, So you
- 14:36Speaker 1: can go one for two and you can get a third,
- 14:40Speaker 1: which in the past you only got two. So that's
- 14:45Speaker 1: that's a big change, that third And I like it
- 14:47Speaker 1: that that third review for each team that's possible. Of course,
- 14:55Speaker 1: in the last two minutes in overtime it will be
- 14:57Speaker 1: a booth review. So uh, that's that's a big change.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Did I miss something? I felt like a couple of
- 15:05Speaker 2: years in a road here we've been complaining about whether
- 15:08Speaker 2: past interference should be reviewed and then I don't unnecessary
- 15:12Speaker 2: roughness was also involved with this, right, isn't that reviewable now?
- 15:16Speaker 1: Well? The passing eperance was for one year, but as
- 15:21Speaker 1: far as passion, as far as roughing the passer, I
- 15:26Speaker 1: think they talked about it, but I'm not sure it.
- 15:30Speaker 1: I don't think it.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Passed because I know that was one of the big
- 15:33Speaker 2: things everybody was talking about the end of last year.
- 15:36Speaker 2: You know, these things have to change because you know
- 15:39Speaker 2: a guy could be literally laying on the ground from
- 15:41Speaker 2: one low push and that was roughing the passer.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Anyway, what the thing with roughing the passer? It's not
- 15:46Speaker 1: going to be the classic roughing the passer. I think
- 15:50Speaker 1: it's more about when a player, when a quarterback is
- 15:53Speaker 1: hit going to the sideline. And I'm sure on the
- 15:57Speaker 1: game tonight they'll talk about they'll talk about that, but
- 16:00Speaker 1: I don't think it's the classic roughing the pass or
- 16:02Speaker 1: the of the player in the pocket and getting getting
- 16:05Speaker 1: uh uh hit late. So that's it. And then and
- 16:10Speaker 1: they're also going to penalize now what they call the
- 16:14Speaker 1: uh uh the hip tackle. The hip hip tackle when
- 16:19Speaker 1: the defense defensive player pulls an offensive player down, either
- 16:22Speaker 1: running back or receiver or a quarterback where the offensive
- 16:26Speaker 1: players legs get pinned under the defensive player and a
- 16:30Speaker 1: defensive player falls on top of them like from behind
- 16:33Speaker 1: or on the side. That will now be a penalty.
- 16:37Speaker 1: So that I mean, with all.
- 16:40Speaker 2: These changes, who's going to benefit which team do you
- 16:42Speaker 2: think could really benefit from all this or is it
- 16:45Speaker 2: a level playing field When it comes.
- 16:46Speaker 1: To that, No, I think it's a level playing field.
- 16:48Speaker 1: I mean I I I really don't see any team
- 16:51Speaker 1: gaining an advantage, uh with these new rules, Lou.
- 16:55Speaker 2: I gotta say that there's a lot of about tonight
- 16:59Speaker 2: about the same game tomorrow between Green Bay and Philadelphia.
- 17:05Speaker 2: But you know, I kind of like it that the
- 17:07Speaker 2: Giants are more localized, like they're having a big fan
- 17:10Speaker 2: fest tomorrow. But if you're outside the country, you would
- 17:13Speaker 2: have no idea. Because the Giants, in their one hundred
- 17:16Speaker 2: season of football are flying under the radar, and God
- 17:20Speaker 2: bless them, I think that works for Actually, I'd be like,
- 17:23Speaker 2: they're very under the radar so far.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I agree with that. I would agree with the under
- 17:28Speaker 1: the radar. Now they are going to Berlin to play
- 17:30Speaker 1: the Carolina Panthers.
- 17:33Speaker 2: True, but the media hype is not on them, which
- 17:35Speaker 2: I think it benefits them a little bit.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Oh well, well question, And I mean I think the
- 17:39Speaker 1: Giants will be okay. They have a very workable schedule.
- 17:44Speaker 1: It's not horrible, I'm not I don't think they could
- 17:49Speaker 1: squeeze into that last playoff spot. But who knows. But
- 17:53Speaker 1: I don't think that. I don't think they're going to
- 17:54Speaker 1: be in the uh race for number one in next
- 18:00Speaker 1: year's NFL draft either. I think it will be between
- 18:04Speaker 1: seven and if everything goes right for them, nine wins.
- 18:08Speaker 1: If everything goes wrong for them, you know, five wins.
- 18:12Speaker 1: But they added John run In, they added great Van
- 18:15Speaker 1: van Routin to their offensive line.
- 18:19Speaker 2: And then there's unretiring from Elite Neighbors. A lot of
- 18:23Speaker 2: people are the thing ruffled by it. I mean, Ray Flaherty,
- 18:27Speaker 2: See you're in the history, you would know more about him.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Though they have the Flarerty family. John Mowray has the
- 18:32Speaker 1: Flarity family. They were good with it. I don't think
- 18:35Speaker 1: it's that big a deal, especially since the if the
- 18:38Speaker 1: if the Flaherty family put the kabash on it. They
- 18:44Speaker 1: were picked in another number. Elite Neighbors is going to
- 18:47Speaker 1: be a star, I think so. Yeah.
- 18:50Speaker 2: He did say he's healthy. I think he had some injury,
- 18:52Speaker 2: a little injury thing in the off season, right, But he's.
- 18:55Speaker 1: He's They were just they were just being precautious with
- 18:57Speaker 1: him in the preseason. In the preseason, he should be
- 19:00Speaker 1: he should be good. He gives Daniel Jones a target
- 19:04Speaker 1: uh to uh to find again, this is it for
- 19:10Speaker 1: Daniel Jones. I mean, we'll see what happens, because the
- 19:13Speaker 1: Giants can get out of the contract. I believe at
- 19:16Speaker 1: the end of next year they can get out of
- 19:18Speaker 1: the contract. I'm almost sure if it would out. I mean,
- 19:22Speaker 1: there'll be some camp repercussions, but they could move on
- 19:25Speaker 1: from him.
- 19:26Speaker 2: But again, what you see in the in the offseason,
- 19:29Speaker 2: in the preseason games steer you away from what you
- 19:33Speaker 2: were thinking toward the end of last year, which is
- 19:36Speaker 2: Dabele needs to do something this year or it's it
- 19:37Speaker 2: for him, or do you feel like that's still the
- 19:39Speaker 2: case here?
- 19:40Speaker 1: No, I think I think that a lot of coaches
- 19:43Speaker 1: are on the Both New York coaches solid more so
- 19:48Speaker 1: than Dable are Definitely Sala's on the hot seat. Dable's
- 19:54Speaker 1: on a potentially warm seat. Let's put it that way,
- 19:58Speaker 1: because remember Bill bellcheckers out there, and I know we
- 20:02Speaker 1: talked about this on the podcast earlier. He is very
- 20:09Speaker 1: close to the marriage. He was a defensive coordinator on
- 20:12Speaker 1: those two Super Bowl winning teams. He's got I have
- 20:17Speaker 1: a feeling, even though he's gonna be pushing seventy four,
- 20:20Speaker 1: he's gonna want to coach again. I think it could
- 20:22Speaker 1: be with the Giants. I think it could be with
- 20:24Speaker 1: Dallas because and I think Dallas is gonna take a
- 20:27Speaker 1: step back. They won twelve games the last each of
- 20:30Speaker 1: the last three years, which is fantastic, but they crap
- 20:34Speaker 1: down the playoffs. I don't think they're winning twelve games
- 20:37Speaker 1: this year. They have a week running game. I just
- 20:42Speaker 1: don't like the vibe. And they're gonna put the game
- 20:44Speaker 1: on put the blame on Dak, But that's such nonsense.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Dak Prescott's a very good quarterback. The Dallas issues are are.
- 20:52Speaker 2: So different than just about and except the McCarthy systems
- 20:57Speaker 2: not working for that, that's the whole Yeah.
- 21:00Speaker 1: But again, any team would like to win twelve regular
- 21:04Speaker 1: season games like McCarthey has done in multiple years. But
- 21:09Speaker 1: if they if they don't go far into the playoffs
- 21:14Speaker 1: this year, uh, you know, Belichick might be might be
- 21:21Speaker 1: a candidate for a coaching job in Dallas. And don't
- 21:25Speaker 1: say that he won't go to Dallas because Darry Jones
- 21:29Speaker 1: sticks his finger in the pie. McCarthy went. Now, McCarthy's
- 21:33Speaker 1: not on the level of Belichick. Parcels went. After he
- 21:36Speaker 1: left the Jets and got healthy, he went and he
- 21:40Speaker 1: was there four years. So it's it's it's gonna be
- 21:44Speaker 1: interesting to see. McCarthy's definitely on the hot seat. Sala
- 21:48Speaker 1: is definitely on the hot seat.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Down the pike is also on the hot seat.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Absolutely, Nick Sirianni's on a hot seat. I would say
- 21:56Speaker 1: the two hottest seats are Sirianni and Sala.
- 21:59Speaker 2: All Right, so I gotta ask you this because while
- 22:01Speaker 2: we're on it, obviously the Jets actually open up against
- 22:04Speaker 2: the team I was about to talk about. But with
- 22:07Speaker 2: Brandon Nyuk, I felt like I was seeing Judge in
- 22:11Speaker 2: tactics where he used the Steelers to get the Niners
- 22:15Speaker 2: in line. Would you agree with that? It felt like
- 22:18Speaker 2: I was watching the Judge free agency, the way he
- 22:21Speaker 2: was fiddling around a little bit with both the Yankees
- 22:24Speaker 2: and the Giants. Was doing the same with both of
- 22:26Speaker 2: these Niners and Steelers teams.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Well, k was smart. He didn't want to go through
- 22:31Speaker 1: the grind of training camp. I know they talked about
- 22:35Speaker 1: a trade with a Steelers. They talked about a trade
- 22:38Speaker 1: with the Patriots. Brandon Nyuk did not want to go
- 22:41Speaker 1: to either one of those teams that's for sure, the
- 22:44Speaker 1: best offensive system, the best offensive coach in the league,
- 22:48Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan. Uh, Brandon Nyuk knows what's going on and
- 22:54Speaker 1: he knows the best way for him to pile up
- 22:58Speaker 1: those stats on a step act forty nine Ers team
- 23:02Speaker 1: is to rejoin the forty nine ers, which he did
- 23:04Speaker 1: and he got an alyx. He got the same money
- 23:06Speaker 1: that they offered him six weeks earlier. So he again,
- 23:11Speaker 1: a lot of these guys don't want to come to
- 23:12Speaker 1: Camp UH and the forty nine ers are better with
- 23:15Speaker 1: Brandon and Yuk in the UH, in the Burgundy and
- 23:19Speaker 1: Gold than if he was playing for the Steals or
- 23:22Speaker 1: the Patriots run in the NFC.
- 23:25Speaker 2: They had quite a run last year and that you know,
- 23:29Speaker 2: rematch against the Chiefs. What what differences should they make
- 23:34Speaker 2: to actually win the big game this year if they're
- 23:36Speaker 2: going to.
- 23:37Speaker 1: They just I mean obviously they.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Just they ran to the Chiefs. That was the other answer, right,
- 23:42Speaker 2: I mean again.
- 23:44Speaker 1: They lost two close games to the Chiefs. They lost
- 23:48Speaker 1: an overtime to the Chiefs. It's a play or two there.
- 23:51Speaker 1: There's not much you can do in a situation like that.
- 23:56Speaker 1: When they lost the Chiefs a couple of years ago
- 23:59Speaker 1: on thir and fifteen up ten, Richard Sherman, who tells
- 24:03Speaker 1: everybody the greatest quarter cornerbacker to ever play in the NFL,
- 24:09Speaker 1: gave up a catch on third and fifteen Chiefs score,
- 24:12Speaker 1: and then Jimmy Garoppolo missus missus a touchdown pass. But
- 24:16Speaker 1: it was it was not an easy touchdown pass. So
- 24:19Speaker 1: I mean, if one of those things go their way,
- 24:21Speaker 1: so it's it's different. I mean, these games are so close,
- 24:25Speaker 1: and that's gonna be the toughest thing for the Chiefs
- 24:27Speaker 1: as they tried a three pet things have gone their way.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Stefan Diggs not catching that ball.
- 24:36Speaker 2: I don't remind me of Allen throwing three times or
- 24:40Speaker 2: actually four, I think in that final drive. I still
- 24:43Speaker 2: understand the play call on that. But I know you
- 24:45Speaker 2: like Allen and you're defending him on that. But he
- 24:48Speaker 2: threw three times and the one to Diggs was at
- 24:51Speaker 2: his feet.
- 24:52Speaker 1: It's just well, dig Dick should have caught that ball.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Dick should have caught that ball, and they missed. They
- 24:59Speaker 1: missed a show field goal. And remember the players coming
- 25:03Speaker 1: from the sideline, so it's not like where do they
- 25:05Speaker 1: miss it?
- 25:05Speaker 2: I think they missed it wide right.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Again they did. They missed it wide right, and it
- 25:08Speaker 1: was a short field goal, not like not like the
- 25:10Speaker 1: one in nineteen ninety which was a long field goal.
- 25:12Speaker 2: But actually, no mention this. The Bill's mafia. The whole
- 25:16Speaker 2: fan base donated to the kicker because they felt bad.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Do you remember that story? I do, so that was
- 25:23Speaker 2: you know, they're not a holes up there. They have
- 25:27Speaker 2: a heart output it that way.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Well, they're tough fans. They're tough fans, but then they
- 25:32Speaker 1: want to win. They've gone through a lot of heartache
- 25:35Speaker 1: over the last thirty years.
- 25:36Speaker 2: When and they're another team that thinks, well, I've got
- 25:38Speaker 2: this prime quarterback, and we're going to see this again
- 25:40Speaker 2: this year. Prime quarterbacks falling short. I think, you know,
- 25:45Speaker 2: for Herbert, for Alan, for those that are just missing
- 25:49Speaker 2: the mark.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Well, only one could win, that's the thing, only one
- 25:54Speaker 1: could win each year.
- 25:56Speaker 2: But you started to see these prime quarterbacks really maybe
- 25:58Speaker 2: feel the pressure a little more.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Right, sure, of course, I mean Lamar Jackson has had
- 26:06Speaker 1: terrible postseasons, terrible, and that there's gonna be a lot
- 26:10Speaker 1: of pressure on them.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Joe Burrow, I mean a lot of these other guys too. Now,
- 26:15Speaker 2: let me ask you what came.
- 26:16Speaker 1: With the ninety seconds of winning the Super Bowl?
- 26:18Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, let me ask you about the Let me
- 26:22Speaker 2: ask you about the AFC North, because I was a
- 26:25Speaker 2: little shocked this week that they were sticking with Russell Wilson,
- 26:28Speaker 2: who did not have a good year at all last
- 26:31Speaker 2: year with Denver, but they're giving him a shout over Fields.
- 26:34Speaker 2: What do you think they saw in Russell? Is it
- 26:37Speaker 2: the veteran leadership that Field doesn't have yet? I mean,
- 26:40Speaker 2: what why him to be the number one for these guys.
- 26:44Speaker 1: The Pittsburgh steel is a probably as good an organization
- 26:47Speaker 1: along with the both or more Ravens in the NFL.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Mike Tomlins as good a coach as there is in
- 26:54Speaker 1: the league. He knows his team. I don't know if
- 27:01Speaker 1: Russell Wilson is going to be the quarterback the entire season,
- 27:03Speaker 1: but he probably did the right thing by starting off
- 27:06Speaker 1: with him, because, like what you said, veteran, veteran leadership,
- 27:10Speaker 1: but it looks like physically Russell Wilson can't do it anymore.
- 27:13Speaker 1: I'm sure I have a feeling Fields will be in
- 27:16Speaker 1: there by midseason. I don't know when their buy is
- 27:20Speaker 1: sometimes if they're buys in the middle of the season,
- 27:22Speaker 1: sometimes a change is made there. The only thing is
- 27:25Speaker 1: you can never underestimate the Steelers when you think they're done,
- 27:28Speaker 1: they're not. No matter who the quarterback is, whether it's
- 27:32Speaker 1: U Picket or what Mason Rudolph, they find a way
- 27:36Speaker 1: to win games. They lose, they lose key players in
- 27:40Speaker 1: key positions, and uh, they never they never crater. So
- 27:48Speaker 1: I have a feeling Russell Wilson's there just for just
- 27:52Speaker 1: for a short time. I don't think he's.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Well, they're already saying, you know, uh, Fields is ready
- 27:57Speaker 2: in case his calf for Wilson is not.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Oh that's right, Yeah, that was an that was on
- 28:01Speaker 1: the injury report today.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Is not heal. So that's breaking new. As we're talking, Hey,
- 28:05Speaker 2: you know another guy in that The other guy in
- 28:08Speaker 2: this formula is Mike Tomlin. And I know I voiced
- 28:10Speaker 2: my frustration to you. How do they keep him a coach? Sometimes?
- 28:14Speaker 1: But he's a great coach, Alex, He's a great coach.
- 28:18Speaker 1: He makes chicken sala out chicken feathers, he really does.
- 28:23Speaker 2: And so he's not on the hot seat. You don't think, no,
- 28:26Speaker 2: he is not.
- 28:26Speaker 1: If he's on the hot seat. He'll be on a
- 28:29Speaker 1: hot seat for fifteen minutes, and then some other NFL
- 28:31Speaker 1: team will.
- 28:31Speaker 2: High So where where is it? Just because the AFC
- 28:35Speaker 2: North has become more competitive, is that why they have been.
- 28:39Speaker 1: It's the best division in the NFL by far?
- 28:41Speaker 2: I think they all had a winning record for the
- 28:43Speaker 2: first time since nineteen thirty five.
- 28:45Speaker 1: That's you are correct.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I know I might talk politics and all the
- 28:49Speaker 2: other stuff, but I know my sports a little bit.
- 28:51Speaker 2: He or Louis that's what you know.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Your sports a lot. Alex Starrett, you know your sports.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Well, and the and the other the other uh division,
- 29:01Speaker 2: I feel like we haven't covered yet. We've covered the
- 29:03Speaker 2: AFC East a little bit. We've covered the NFC East
- 29:06Speaker 2: and the NFC North, NFC West.
- 29:10Speaker 1: You know, Rams, the forty nine ers should win a division.
- 29:17Speaker 1: I think the Rams are going to make the playoffs.
- 29:20Speaker 1: The deeper team, the deeper, more quality teams are in
- 29:25Speaker 1: the a FC this year. But San Francisco, Philadelphia, Detroit,
- 29:31Speaker 1: the Rams should make the playoffs.
- 29:34Speaker 2: And then you got hold on, let me reask that
- 29:35Speaker 2: because I want to I want to phrase it a
- 29:37Speaker 2: little differently. All right, So we've covered all that, But
- 29:40Speaker 2: you know the other big game coming up, it's Sunday
- 29:43Speaker 2: night golf versus Stafford in Detroit. Oh my goodness. They
- 29:49Speaker 2: you know, for the primetime games. I think they scheduled
- 29:52Speaker 2: well this this first week.
- 29:54Speaker 1: They sure did. I can't I can't quibble with any
- 29:58Speaker 1: of the games that putting on in prime time, and
- 30:02Speaker 1: the NFL knows how to do it. I mean, it's
- 30:08Speaker 1: gonna be interesting to see what the number is not
- 30:13Speaker 1: on how many people be Washington night, and what.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Are you looking for for Aaron Rodgers in his prime
- 30:19Speaker 2: time restart. I mean, obviously the four snaps, the dramatic
- 30:23Speaker 2: win on nine to eleven, and now they're on the
- 30:28Speaker 2: coast to start out in San Francisco. But I feel
- 30:32Speaker 2: like there's a lot riding on the first four snaps
- 30:34Speaker 2: because of what happened. I don't know, I feel like
- 30:36Speaker 2: there are gonna.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Be microscope next week. Well every disappy takes will be
- 30:41Speaker 1: under a microscope because with no quarterback, and this is
- 30:45Speaker 1: not only with Aaron Rodgers, but with any team. You know,
- 30:50Speaker 1: this is a quarterback league, and you don't have a quarterback,
- 30:55Speaker 1: you're done. The Jets are loaded. The Jets roster is low.
- 31:01Speaker 1: If the sports guards finally smile on the New York Jets,
- 31:05Speaker 1: they can be playing well into the playoff season. Next
- 31:11Speaker 1: year they can be and hopefully they will be playing
- 31:14Speaker 1: what is it February ninth, February seventh this year at a
- 31:17Speaker 1: Super Bowl down in New Orleans. The Jets are that good.
- 31:21Speaker 1: But the pressure is on Sala, the pressures, the pressures
- 31:25Speaker 1: on Nathaniel Hackett, less pressure because he has a real quarterback.
- 31:30Speaker 1: I mean, the Jets won seven games each of the
- 31:33Speaker 1: last few years with no quarterback, no quarterback.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Garrett look like they have to get creative. And I
- 31:40Speaker 2: gotta say getting creative is not the only coach that
- 31:45Speaker 2: needs to be doing that. Apparently now the Yanks want
- 31:47Speaker 2: to get creative with Holmes. I want to switch gears
- 31:49Speaker 2: while I have you here for a minute. Creativity runs
- 31:52Speaker 2: throughout our whole New York sports I feel like we've
- 31:54Speaker 2: heard this over and over, Louis, what creativity could the
- 31:59Speaker 2: Yankees do that you know and about head coach could
- 32:03Speaker 2: maybe do as well as manager. I mean trying to
- 32:06Speaker 2: get creative. I've heard that term a lot this week already.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Well, I mean, if we want to jump to baseball,
- 32:14Speaker 1: talk about baseball right now? Do you realize the Yankees
- 32:17Speaker 1: are forty and forty two in the last eighty two games.
- 32:21Speaker 2: And do you realize Judges hitting percentage is being on
- 32:24Speaker 2: Paul Patrol has deeply dropped. So it's like a Paul
- 32:27Speaker 2: Patrol curse on on Aaron Judge.
- 32:30Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 32:31Speaker 2: And the fact they aren't being winning team losing teams
- 32:34Speaker 2: is worrisome. But three straight series losses, this is where
- 32:40Speaker 2: the pendulum starts turning, because now Baltimore looks like they're
- 32:43Speaker 2: not going to slow down. Am I right?
- 32:44Speaker 1: Well, again, you can look at it either way. The
- 32:49Speaker 1: Yankees are lucky that the Orioles got have five starting
- 32:52Speaker 1: pitchers injured and have lost games. Or it could be
- 32:55Speaker 1: the other way. The Orioles are lucky that the Yankees
- 32:59Speaker 1: have suddenly start losing to teams that they're better than.
- 33:03Speaker 1: And so I don't know where this is going to
- 33:05Speaker 1: end up. But like we said in the past, you
- 33:07Speaker 1: still want to finish first. You don't want to play
- 33:10Speaker 1: in that two out of three crap shoot in the
- 33:12Speaker 1: first round. I mean, I think I still think the
- 33:16Speaker 1: Yankees might might get there. I think they'll get at
- 33:20Speaker 1: finished First.
- 33:20Speaker 2: All three teams are still the strongest despite the weaknesses.
- 33:23Speaker 2: They're still the strongest of the Orioles and Guardians and
- 33:27Speaker 2: the ass are a little far away from that top three.
- 33:29Speaker 2: So I would say they're the strongest of all of
- 33:32Speaker 2: them right now, even despite their flaws.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I would agree with that. Uh. Stroman
- 33:39Speaker 1: is Stroman, as you know, he's just he got it.
- 33:43Speaker 1: He got tattooed last night. The Yankees pitching is like
- 33:48Speaker 1: everybody else's. You know, maybe you don't need pitching. The best,
- 33:53Speaker 1: the best starting pitching staff in the American League are
- 33:57Speaker 1: the Seattle Mariners, and they're not going to make the playoffs.
- 34:00Speaker 1: They can't score. I mean, the Yankees are still one
- 34:03Speaker 1: of the highest scoring teams in the league. So are
- 34:05Speaker 1: the Orioles. Maybe that maybe they ride they ride the bats.
- 34:09Speaker 1: This year. It's a very weird year. As we've been
- 34:12Speaker 1: saying all year round, teams streak, they slump, they streak,
- 34:17Speaker 1: they slump, and maybe that's been to carry it right
- 34:20Speaker 1: through the end of October. So I don't know. But
- 34:24Speaker 1: the one thing I like the Yankees' attention to detail,
- 34:28Speaker 1: and we've talked about this off there isn't great and
- 34:33Speaker 1: last night, I guess and I answered the game, but
- 34:36Speaker 1: I guess Alex Radugo didn't hustle. And they questioned Aaron
- 34:42Speaker 1: Boone in the postgame press conference, and Boone defended his player,
- 34:47Speaker 1: like I guess he should, especially now in these crunch
- 34:51Speaker 1: times of the last month of the season.
- 34:53Speaker 2: But then the whole question was, then why did you
- 34:54Speaker 2: bench Claver when he wasn't hustling? So that was all right,
- 34:58Speaker 2: but he.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Benched Laver the multiple offenses of non hustle.
- 35:03Speaker 2: That's true, that's true.
- 35:05Speaker 1: But again that's been a Yankee thing a lot over
- 35:09Speaker 1: the last couple of years. So I don't know, Alex,
- 35:13Speaker 1: I don't know if that's something that when you get
- 35:17Speaker 1: to these clutch games. Yeah, when you're not buttoned up
- 35:21Speaker 1: during the regular season, can you become buttoned up.
- 35:24Speaker 2: During It's very valid point. By the way. The other
- 35:28Speaker 2: difference between both teams here with the Mets and Yankees,
- 35:31Speaker 2: I mean is I think the Mets bring out the
- 35:34Speaker 2: same lineup almost every night. He's not changing much, but
- 35:38Speaker 2: Boom comes in and it's like, you know, he's franking
- 35:41Speaker 2: signing the lineup every night. Just leave it, beat, Let
- 35:45Speaker 2: it be one thing and see if.
- 35:47Speaker 1: It gels Alex. It's not only Boon, it's what he
- 35:50Speaker 1: gets from the analytic team. You know, how he sets
- 35:55Speaker 1: his lineup, and believe me that that goes throughout major
- 35:59Speaker 1: League Baseball. He is not This is not like the
- 36:02Speaker 1: old days. This is not like Casey Stingle riding out
- 36:05Speaker 1: the lineup card, or Gil Hodges riding out the lineup card,
- 36:08Speaker 1: or Earl Weaver riding out the lineup card on his own.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Believe me, it's it's a conglomeration of guys feeding stats,
- 36:18Speaker 1: putting guys in certain spots.
- 36:21Speaker 2: It's it's uh, it's Billy bean On being you know,
- 36:25Speaker 2: Billy Ball on steroids kind of right.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Well, and as there Billy Ball worked. I mean they
- 36:32Speaker 1: never won a championship, but they were always good with
- 36:35Speaker 1: a with a small payroll. But you're right, it's on steroids,
- 36:39Speaker 1: So I mean, it's not only on on Aaron Boone. Again,
- 36:43Speaker 1: this is the seventh year. I don't think he's going anywhere.
- 36:49Speaker 2: But you know, I've been listening. I did listen to
- 36:51Speaker 2: a lot of talk radio, and they're all saying, there's
- 36:54Speaker 2: no way he can go back to Holmes. There is
- 36:56Speaker 2: a way he might just they might just keep doing it.
- 36:59Speaker 2: They might just keep trotting out different lineups because they
- 37:02Speaker 2: think it's gonna work. And yet it makes them look
- 37:05Speaker 2: a little tone deaf. And you know, I love the Yanks,
- 37:07Speaker 2: I have connects with the Angies organization, but it does
- 37:10Speaker 2: make them look a bit tone deaf when they're not
- 37:12Speaker 2: listening to the fans.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Well, you listen to the fans, you become a fan.
- 37:17Speaker 1: So they're not going to listen to the fans, that's
- 37:20Speaker 1: for sure.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Here's the hot button issue for baseball this week, especially
- 37:27Speaker 2: Ken Lindor top Otani in MVP. Does the milestones really
- 37:35Speaker 2: trump what Lindor is doing on a Mets team, which
- 37:38Speaker 2: they need him at the top of the lineup, Not
- 37:41Speaker 2: to say they don't need Otani at the top of
- 37:44Speaker 2: that Dodger lineup, and what he's doing is not incredible.
- 37:47Speaker 2: It is, But when I think of MVP, I think
- 37:49Speaker 2: of a guy who's being able to be out there
- 37:52Speaker 2: first team every night and do everything that needs to
- 37:55Speaker 2: be done. And Lindor's doing that a little more than
- 37:58Speaker 2: Otani because you point out an off air look at
- 38:00Speaker 2: the defensive side of things too for Lindor that he's
- 38:03Speaker 2: doing for this.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Team alex Hey. Otani is a great offensive player. That's
- 38:09Speaker 1: what he is. He's a great offensive player. He hasn't
- 38:12Speaker 1: played one out in the field. Otani's gonna win because
- 38:18Speaker 1: Otani is His brand is so well known, and these
- 38:25Speaker 1: riders are gonna are gonna vote for him. But there
- 38:29Speaker 1: is nobody who has turned the Met season around more
- 38:33Speaker 1: than when they put Lindor in the lead or spot.
- 38:37Speaker 1: The Mets have played twenty or twenty two games over
- 38:39Speaker 1: five hundred since June second, the best record in Major
- 38:43Speaker 1: League Baseball since June second. And they may not make
- 38:47Speaker 1: the playoffs, and I still think they're gonna fall short,
- 38:49Speaker 1: even though on only half the game out. But in
- 38:53Speaker 1: Lindora's case, not only what he's done offensively, not only
- 38:58Speaker 1: he is he a brilliant fielding shortstop. He's out there
- 39:01Speaker 1: for one hundred and forty five one hundred and fifty
- 39:03Speaker 1: pitches per game. He has to concentrate on every pitch.
- 39:08Speaker 1: He has to make sure that every pitch, one pitch
- 39:14Speaker 1: could change a game if he's in the wrong position defensively.
- 39:19Speaker 1: I don't know how the guy didn't win the Golden
- 39:22Speaker 1: Glove for shortstop last year. They gave it to Swanson.
- 39:25Speaker 1: I don't know how they didn't give it to Lindor,
- 39:28Speaker 1: who was brilliant last year. And the thing about Lindore,
- 39:31Speaker 1: even if he goes and went to batting slump, it
- 39:33Speaker 1: doesn't affect his fielding. He's a great base runner. And
- 39:37Speaker 1: you know, I was one of the biggest Lindoor bashers, especially.
- 39:41Speaker 2: When they signed him without even sign hitting a pitch
- 39:44Speaker 2: for the Mets. That was really questionable. But he's earning
- 39:48Speaker 2: the money now, that's for sure.
- 39:49Speaker 1: And he is the Mets best player by far. He's won.
- 39:53Speaker 1: To me, he's the most valuable player in the National League.
- 39:57Speaker 1: But he's not going to win it.
- 39:58Speaker 2: And you know who's thankful for Peter Alonzo is thinking,
- 40:01Speaker 2: well that Lindor's producing as it's taking a lot of
- 40:03Speaker 2: heat off him, and Alonzo's not had the best walk year.
- 40:08Speaker 2: I have to say that.
- 40:10Speaker 1: Alex, if you watch Alonso and again he's he's got
- 40:14Speaker 1: thirty one home runs. But you could see it. We've
- 40:18Speaker 1: said this in the past. You could read the guy's
- 40:20Speaker 1: body language.
- 40:22Speaker 2: The guy.
- 40:24Speaker 1: The guy wears his heart on his sleeve. He's feeling
- 40:27Speaker 1: the pressure, not feeling the pressure of a playoff phrase,
- 40:31Speaker 1: he's feeling the pressure of his performance because he's going
- 40:34Speaker 1: to be a Scott Borrows free agent and it's gonna
- 40:39Speaker 1: be a very interesting free agency for Peter Alonzo. I
- 40:44Speaker 1: have no idea if he's going to be back with
- 40:46Speaker 1: the Mets or not. I really don't. I really don't.
- 40:51Speaker 1: But yes, Alex, he feels the self induced pressure. You
- 40:56Speaker 1: could see it. I mean, you don't even have to
- 40:59Speaker 1: be an ex spur that body language. You can see it.
- 41:02Speaker 1: And like I said, he still has seventy one home
- 41:04Speaker 1: runs and eighty RBI's.
- 41:08Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's it's it's a mixed bag. And you
- 41:14Speaker 2: know the other guy who was at Fanatics by the way,
- 41:17Speaker 2: Jeff McNeil, another name him and Nemo Nemo. You want
- 41:20Speaker 2: them to produce more as I stay up in themselves
- 41:24Speaker 2: this year a little bit.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Well since the All Star break, Nemo, who was on
- 41:30Speaker 1: his way looked like to be a one hundred RBI guy,
- 41:33Speaker 1: hasn't hit a lick, and I don't think he puts
- 41:37Speaker 1: a lot of pressure on himself. But as I said
- 41:43Speaker 1: to you earlier in the year, now McNeil had a
- 41:45Speaker 1: good three or four weeks. Jeff McNeil is almost done.
- 41:50Speaker 1: He I don't know if he's if the Mets are
- 41:52Speaker 1: going to package him in the trade, you know, as
- 41:54Speaker 1: an extra. I think he has three days left on
- 41:56Speaker 1: his contract. He's not done like Lemeo's Lameyo was done.
- 42:01Speaker 1: He's finished, he's done. But McNeil is close to done.
- 42:11Speaker 1: I can't see. Maybe the Nets will keep him because
- 42:14Speaker 1: he's still on the contract. He has a twelve million
- 42:17Speaker 1: dollars a year contract. It's sure, it's not crazy as
- 42:21Speaker 1: you know some of these others. And you know, maybe
- 42:23Speaker 1: he'll become the Mets util he died because he can
- 42:25Speaker 1: play second, third, and can play right or left. Who knows,
- 42:31Speaker 1: but he's not the same guy, and you know, so
- 42:37Speaker 1: we'll see what happens.
- 42:38Speaker 2: But by the way, the Mets pitching has really turned around.
- 42:41Speaker 2: I remember we were in the second game of the
- 42:43Speaker 2: season against the Brewers and Sevy looked awful. But now
- 42:49Speaker 2: he looks like one of the best pitchers in the majors.
- 42:51Speaker 2: In fact, he is. Since June, he's had the best era.
- 42:54Speaker 2: I mean, you talk about the turnaround, you talk about
- 42:56Speaker 2: the patients, I'm sure they've had it with them.
- 42:58Speaker 1: Well, let me say one thing I said earlier in
- 43:04Speaker 1: the year and I said it on one of the
- 43:06Speaker 1: early podcasts. I thought that was a bad signing. I
- 43:09Speaker 1: thought he was I thought he was done. He hasn't
- 43:14Speaker 1: pitched as well as Sean Mania, but he's been good.
- 43:19Speaker 1: He's been good. Gonna be interesting to see. I mean
- 43:21Speaker 1: they signed him for one year, thirteen million. He's going
- 43:24Speaker 1: to get more money from the Mets or somebody else
- 43:26Speaker 1: because pitching is at such a premium because not only
- 43:30Speaker 1: can't you find them, guys get are getting hurt left
- 43:34Speaker 1: and right. I mean we talked about the Orioles, look
- 43:36Speaker 1: at the look at Spencer Strider, with with the with
- 43:39Speaker 1: the Braves, Kyle Wright. I mean, we can go right
- 43:43Speaker 1: down the line. We go on every team, so we're
- 43:46Speaker 1: not gonna waste time doing that. Sean Mania are one
- 43:49Speaker 1: year and you can.
- 43:50Speaker 2: Hear Louz talk about that on another Terminals take, which
- 43:53Speaker 2: we did a while back. On these injuries that are
- 43:56Speaker 2: just plaguing and whatnot, boons, we gotta fairly talk about
- 44:01Speaker 2: Carlos Mendoza. The guy has managed the best he can.
- 44:06Speaker 2: I think he's on the hell of a job to
- 44:08Speaker 2: get them where they are right now. You look at
- 44:10Speaker 2: all the adversity they faced early on the media, oh
- 44:14Speaker 2: win five, Oh my goodness, and yet here they are
- 44:17Speaker 2: half the game, mind the break, I mean one an adversity,
- 44:22Speaker 2: a leader through adversity. Carlos Mendoz has become here.
- 44:27Speaker 1: Well, he's very calm. You're right. His overreaction and we're
- 44:33Speaker 1: going to see so much overreaction on Monday and Tuesday
- 44:36Speaker 1: after this NFL weekend, overreaction positively and negatively. But Mendoz
- 44:43Speaker 1: has done a great job. He handles the press well.
- 44:48Speaker 1: I watch him a lot of his press conferences and
- 44:51Speaker 1: he gives deep thought provoking answers to everything that what
- 44:57Speaker 1: he does, he can back it up. Sometimes it works,
- 45:00Speaker 1: times it doesn't. I mean, really, there's only one or two.
- 45:06Speaker 1: I I'm just show and I'm watching the name. Can
- 45:07Speaker 1: I question what he does, especially when he you know,
- 45:10Speaker 1: he's handled a bullpen that has been completely turned over
- 45:14Speaker 1: from the beginning of season, and he's done a great
- 45:17Speaker 1: job with that. Uh really, I really have no qualms
- 45:21Speaker 1: with him so far, and I think he'll get better,
- 45:25Speaker 1: you know, as as he gains experience. I really can
- 45:28Speaker 1: tell maybe one or two games where I could say
- 45:30Speaker 1: why did he do that? But over course of a
- 45:35Speaker 1: six month one hundred and sixty two game season. You know,
- 45:38Speaker 1: that's uh, that's not much. So he's done. He's done
- 45:41Speaker 1: a good job, and he's kept the Mets. He's kept
- 45:43Speaker 1: the Mets calm. And I got a and I've been
- 45:46Speaker 1: critical of of David Stearns. We got the Mets a
- 45:52Speaker 1: competitive even if they don't make the playoffs, which I
- 45:54Speaker 1: hope they do. But they got seven games left with Philly,
- 45:57Speaker 1: and that's been and Philly Atlanta.
- 45:59Speaker 2: They also have Atlanta on the second.
- 46:00Speaker 1: They have three with Atlanta and they have three the
- 46:03Speaker 1: last three with Milwaukee. So it's gonna be very, very tough.
- 46:08Speaker 2: By the way, and this comes. We're doing this on
- 46:10Speaker 2: the Mets off day, and you know it's funny. The
- 46:13Speaker 2: Yanks need the off day. The Mets you don't want
- 46:16Speaker 2: the off day. With the seven game win streak. You
- 46:19Speaker 2: gotta stay motivated tomorrow and through the you know, through
- 46:22Speaker 2: the weekend.
- 46:22Speaker 1: Here you are right, because I think what would put
- 46:29Speaker 1: Neimo and h J D. Martinez has hit, but not
- 46:37Speaker 1: like he's hit before the All Star Break. For those
- 46:39Speaker 1: two months when the Mets got really hot, that four
- 46:45Speaker 1: day All Star break slowed the Mets down. I believe
- 46:49Speaker 1: so you're right, you don't you don't want a day off,
- 46:51Speaker 1: but again, the bullpen can use a day off, and
- 46:54Speaker 1: they have a They have a Cincinnati team coming in
- 46:57Speaker 1: that can hit. They have a Cincinnati teama, a lot
- 47:00Speaker 1: of young players, Cincinnati team that has underachieved. Those are
- 47:03Speaker 1: scary teams. I think David Bell might lose his job
- 47:07Speaker 1: at the end of the at the end of the
- 47:08Speaker 1: year as manager because the Reds have a lot of talent.
- 47:13Speaker 1: So they're coming in this weekend. The Mets have to
- 47:15Speaker 1: go in with the mindset to win two out of three,
- 47:17Speaker 1: and then they go up to Toronto, which has been
- 47:20Speaker 1: I think the biggest disappointment in the major leagues this year.
- 47:24Speaker 1: They got win to out of three up there Toronto.
- 47:28Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's the story. I mean, they have the talent,
- 47:31Speaker 2: they just haven't had.
- 47:34Speaker 1: All against it's really I mean, they've been out of
- 47:38Speaker 1: it since day won. Lou.
- 47:42Speaker 2: While we're on this, let me ask you the most
- 47:43Speaker 2: controversial question I think, facing the twenty twenty four Chicago
- 47:48Speaker 2: White Sox and the nineteen sixty two New York Mets,
- 47:53Speaker 2: do you want the White Sox to surpassed them? The
- 47:56Speaker 2: New York Mets nineteen sixty two record, or do you
- 47:59Speaker 2: still want that nine two team to be the worst ever?
- 48:02Speaker 2: Because then you can say, well, look what we rebounded
- 48:05Speaker 2: from the nineteen sixty nine. You know, there's a lot of.
- 48:07Speaker 1: Viewpoints on this. Well I'm going to say this. And
- 48:10Speaker 1: I was listening to Howie Rose as I was driving
- 48:12Speaker 1: around the other day during the Mets game, and.
- 48:15Speaker 2: I wonder where I got the idea from to ask him, and.
- 48:19Speaker 1: He said, as a lifelong Mets fan, he wants the
- 48:23Speaker 1: Mets to have that record because they were an expansion
- 48:26Speaker 1: team and seven years later they were able to become
- 48:28Speaker 1: the first expansion team ever to win the World Series,
- 48:31Speaker 1: and how they build up their farm system so quickly. Okay,
- 48:34Speaker 1: now I want to see the White Socks who was
- 48:36Speaker 1: on to twenty one games? I do, And I feel
- 48:39Speaker 1: bad for the White Sox. I mean, the team is
- 48:42Speaker 1: absolutely pathetic because Mets were an expansion team. And Alex,
- 48:48Speaker 1: if you look back, if you ever on a Google
- 48:50Speaker 1: like how the Mets pick players from the expansion pool,
- 48:56Speaker 1: I think it was a pool of fifteen players. Nowadays,
- 49:00Speaker 1: when the expansion teams came in like Arizona and Tampa Bay,
- 49:05Speaker 1: they picked not they picked from both leagues. There was
- 49:09Speaker 1: free agency. Arizona was Arizona won one hundred and one
- 49:14Speaker 1: games their second year. They in their fourth year play
- 49:18Speaker 1: in the World Series because they were able to sign
- 49:21Speaker 1: us free agents for Randy Johnson and.
- 49:23Speaker 3: Shilling, and they got Met Gonzales. You know, so the
- 49:28Speaker 3: Mets couldn't that. The Mets had no farm system when
- 49:32Speaker 3: they started in sixty two. It was a true expansion team.
- 49:35Speaker 3: And Alex, this is before your time.
- 49:38Speaker 1: Those expansion teams were truly expansion teams. You know, they
- 49:42Speaker 1: were going to be bad for five six years. So
- 49:45Speaker 1: I just can't believe in twenty fourteen, the Chicago White
- 49:48Speaker 1: Sox a couple of years ago, we're in the playoffs.
- 49:52Speaker 1: Are this pathetic? Fo Yeah, No, it's it's I was shocked.
- 49:58Speaker 1: I mean, it's shocking to me that that is bad
- 50:02Speaker 1: and they are as bad as their record as far
- 50:05Speaker 1: as their record show.
- 50:05Speaker 2: Oh my god, that the game of the night against
- 50:08Speaker 2: the Oreos or they're bumping into each other and everybody
- 50:11Speaker 2: and Kevin Brown and the Oriols network saying the White
- 50:14Speaker 2: Sox have gotten full White Sox.
- 50:15Speaker 1: I mean, I mean that was a little that was
- 50:17Speaker 1: a little tough.
- 50:18Speaker 2: But I heard him say that that's that's pretty awful.
- 50:22Speaker 2: And you just wonder when you start the season and
- 50:28Speaker 2: you don't see this coming, how you rise above it.
- 50:32Speaker 2: The White Sox happened. They even fired their manager in
- 50:34Speaker 2: late August. Okay, and they still in early August. They
- 50:38Speaker 2: still didn't bounce back from that. So that's I mean,
- 50:40Speaker 2: they just it really could be an ownership level thing.
- 50:43Speaker 2: I mean, a lot of people in Ie sort to
- 50:45Speaker 2: sell the team already. I don't know if that's the answer, but.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Well, I mean, he wants to buy a new he
- 50:50Speaker 1: wants to build a new stadium, and this is not
- 50:52Speaker 1: going to happen, because uh it'll I'm not I'm not
- 50:56Speaker 1: saying it's not gonna happen, but the way the White
- 50:57Speaker 1: Socks are playing that certainly doesn't you know, say hey,
- 51:02Speaker 1: let's build that stadium Tomorrow. They'll probably get the stadium built.
- 51:05Speaker 1: I could tell you. I could say one thing. When
- 51:07Speaker 1: I watch them play, they play hard. They play they
- 51:11Speaker 1: do play hard and size more coaches and manages the
- 51:18Speaker 1: game like they're in the playoffs, you know, like they
- 51:21Speaker 1: were in a playoffs situation.
- 51:22Speaker 2: He was a great player with the then he was
- 51:25Speaker 2: without doing a great player. No, I'm just thinking about
- 51:28Speaker 2: this because you're a sales guy, right, you were a
- 51:30Speaker 2: former seven Wars with nine seventy where we first met.
- 51:35Speaker 2: How do the sales teams of these teams that are
- 51:38Speaker 2: really you know, they don't even look competitive heading in
- 51:41Speaker 2: the next year tell an advertiser, Hey, stay with us,
- 51:44Speaker 2: We're gonna get better. It's almost an impossible job, isn't it.
- 51:48Speaker 1: It is an impossible job, and this is what you
- 51:50Speaker 1: gotta do. I was with the Nets during five of
- 51:54Speaker 1: their worst years. After my first five years with the Nets,
- 51:57Speaker 1: you were pretty good when the forty nine games forty
- 51:59Speaker 1: eight game games will beat the Sixers when they were
- 52:02Speaker 1: the world champions in the playoffs. And then after the
- 52:06Speaker 1: Michael Ray Richardson situation where he was expelled for life,
- 52:11Speaker 1: that was step step one into the team falling apart.
- 52:15Speaker 1: And we were terrible for the next five five years
- 52:17Speaker 1: between seventeen and twenty six twenty seven wins. So what
- 52:22Speaker 1: I did was we started selling the opposition. It's what
- 52:25Speaker 1: I did, and I sold myself and I would say, hey,
- 52:28Speaker 1: I can't promise you what's going to happen on the
- 52:30Speaker 1: court is going to be good. But anything that any
- 52:33Speaker 1: deal that we make as a corporate sponsor, I'll make
- 52:36Speaker 1: sure that everything that you get in your deal is
- 52:40Speaker 1: fulfilled and you sell yourself. And then you know, then
- 52:47Speaker 1: we got better. We got better in the nineties with
- 52:49Speaker 1: Kenny Derreck and Derek can Anders and Derek Holeman and
- 52:52Speaker 1: draws and patrich and the draw. Then we had the
- 52:55Speaker 1: draws and death, which set back the team five years.
- 52:59Speaker 1: And then then we made the trade for kid drafted Kenyan,
- 53:03Speaker 1: Martin Richard Jefferson, Keith van Horn, and you know, we
- 53:06Speaker 1: went to the We won four divisions in six years,
- 53:10Speaker 1: we won nine playoff series. And yes, it's easy to
- 53:13Speaker 1: sell when the product helps you out, but that's how
- 53:16Speaker 1: you gotta do it.
- 53:16Speaker 2: And I mean this team had seventeen fans and attendance
- 53:21Speaker 2: about a week seventy.
- 53:23Speaker 1: Well, there was one game, first game of a double
- 53:25Speaker 1: headed way. They said there was under there was under
- 53:27Speaker 1: fifty fans in the stadium, like in the third inning.
- 53:30Speaker 2: And so that looks really bad to an advertiser. So
- 53:35Speaker 2: let's just say I send this over to the Chicago
- 53:36Speaker 2: sales team. What's your message for the White Sox sales guys, Right,
- 53:40Speaker 2: now yeah.
- 53:41Speaker 1: Well, I mean they just got to put blinders on.
- 53:45Speaker 1: And that's what I did. I mean, you can't. You know,
- 53:47Speaker 1: the team is bad, and you just got to you
- 53:51Speaker 1: gotta keep you gotta keep talking to your sponsor. Don't
- 53:54Speaker 1: run away from your.
- 53:55Speaker 2: Wells and say this also deals with legacy spongors. I'm
- 53:58Speaker 2: sure the White Socks have a crued so many legacy
- 54:00Speaker 2: sponsors that wouldn't just disappear on them, would they know?
- 54:04Speaker 1: They'll they'll, they'll stick with them. Some will lead because
- 54:07Speaker 1: of budget reason stuff like that. But it hurts business.
- 54:11Speaker 1: And then, let's face it, I was a better salesperson
- 54:15Speaker 1: when the team was good. But the most important thing
- 54:21Speaker 1: is the product on the court, on the ice, on
- 54:23Speaker 1: the field, on the baseball diamond. That's the most important thing.
- 54:29Speaker 1: And anybody else, anybody else who tells you, oh, well,
- 54:33Speaker 1: our operating cost we lost five million dollars, well, okay,
- 54:39Speaker 1: then cut the budget. You know what you're gonna do.
- 54:42Speaker 1: You're gonna lose money because to make money, you gotta
- 54:47Speaker 1: spend money. And all these pro sports teams are now
- 54:52Speaker 1: worth so much money. I mean, it's astronomical.
- 54:59Speaker 2: And it is. I wish they just name it back
- 55:02Speaker 2: to Kamiski statement. It's a lot more easier to pronounce.
- 55:06Speaker 2: But that's another story for another day. Lou, I know
- 55:09Speaker 2: you wanted to talk about before we go this date
- 55:11Speaker 2: in history. You want to take us back in time
- 55:13Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 55:15Speaker 1: Well, today was one of the darkest days since I've
- 55:22Speaker 1: been watching sports in nineteen seventy two, on this day,
- 55:27Speaker 1: it was the day when Black September the terrorists, the
- 55:31Speaker 1: Arab terrorist group, rushed Olympic village and killed immediately to
- 55:42Speaker 1: Israeli olympians abducted the other nine, which led to it
- 55:49Speaker 1: almost a twenty four out. It was probably about eighteen
- 55:51Speaker 1: hour standoff with Black September, and eventually at the airport
- 56:02Speaker 1: in Munich they were the police charged and tried to
- 56:10Speaker 1: stop the hostage takeover in a plane and because they
- 56:17Speaker 1: wanted the plane and they wanted two hundred and thirty
- 56:19Speaker 1: four terrorists that were being held, and make a long
- 56:27Speaker 1: story short, they were they lost them all. The other
- 56:31Speaker 1: nine eleven Israeli athletes were killed, one West German policeman
- 56:38Speaker 1: was killed. I think four terrorists were killed, four or
- 56:41Speaker 1: five terrorists were killed, and I just remember Jim McKay
- 56:45Speaker 1: watching me watching at night till two three in the morning,
- 56:47Speaker 1: giving us the horrible news that they were all gone.
- 56:50Speaker 1: As she said, they were all gone. And eventually Israeli
- 56:56Speaker 1: military got revenge, got the h got all the two
- 57:02Speaker 1: hundred and thirty four terrorists were eventually wiped out because
- 57:09Speaker 1: the three the three Black September that the West German
- 57:14Speaker 1: police caught and put in jail. Two months later, they
- 57:19Speaker 1: were let go for those two hundred and thirty four terrorists.
- 57:26Speaker 1: But the Israeli army, and I don't remember the details
- 57:32Speaker 1: that well, but they got them all. They got them all,
- 57:36Speaker 1: Alex for that horrible thing that they did that day.
- 57:42Speaker 1: And a lot of people said the Olympics should have
- 57:44Speaker 1: been should have been canceled, the Summer Olympics. They were,
- 57:46Speaker 1: they were for a couple of days. But Avery Brunded,
- 57:49Speaker 1: she was no fan of Israel, kept the got the
- 57:54Speaker 1: games going and they finished. That was ironically the Olympics
- 57:58Speaker 1: where Mark Spitz, a Jewish American, one of all those
- 58:02Speaker 1: gold medals in swimming. I believe it was seven.
- 58:05Speaker 2: Yes, that was that was That was honest day in Brundridge.
- 58:10Speaker 2: Was IOC president the time?
- 58:11Speaker 1: I right on that, Yes he was, And he was
- 58:13Speaker 1: for many many years, for many many years, not a
- 58:16Speaker 1: good guy.
- 58:18Speaker 2: Well, we all know the IOC screws up in a
- 58:20Speaker 2: lot of ways and can show that hostility toward even
- 58:25Speaker 2: Jewish the Jewish athletes as well. And I think that's
- 58:29Speaker 2: still rest well since that.
- 58:31Speaker 1: Day Alex Instill's Olympics. All right, every Israeli Olympic team
- 58:39Speaker 1: does not stay in the Olympic village and it's Israeli
- 58:43Speaker 1: security that watches them and protects them, not Olympic security.
- 58:50Speaker 2: And imagine this year in Paris, the on alert because
- 58:53Speaker 2: of what happened on October seventh. I mean, it transcends
- 58:57Speaker 2: the field. It's just, you know, it's it's something that
- 59:03Speaker 2: should have become commonplace. But after October seventh, you have
- 59:06Speaker 2: to guard against that from becoming car commonplace even more
- 59:10Speaker 2: output it that way.
- 59:12Speaker 1: One last update on unless you have some and there
- 59:15Speaker 1: is some good news.
- 59:16Speaker 2: I ambled at the Paralympics and my buddy Steve Sirio
- 59:20Speaker 2: and Team USA wheelchair basketball is on the gold medal
- 59:24Speaker 2: game on Saturday against Great Britain. How about that.
- 59:32Speaker 1: That's great. I was watching a little bit of the
- 59:33Speaker 1: basketball game yesterday. Is not amazing.
- 59:36Speaker 2: The way they they're they're able to navigate and everything
- 59:39Speaker 2: like that in their wheelchairs. It's even at the cuny
- 59:43Speaker 2: adaptive level. It's amazing to watch them navigate the court
- 59:47Speaker 2: like that.
- 59:48Speaker 1: Well, I was watching, I was watching. I was watching
- 59:52Speaker 1: some of these guys when I got fouled and they
- 59:54Speaker 1: go to the free throw line. They're sitting in their
- 59:56Speaker 1: chair and they're shooting. They're shooting those free throws like
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: the Stefan Curry, nothing but caught. Amazing to me. And
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: then I was watching the swimming. I don't, Alex, I
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: don't know how they do it. I mean, you know,
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: finishing in the top in the top three, and some
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: of these kids, some of these people have their legs
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: cut off from just below the knee and you need
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: your legs to swim. Obviously, the strength of these people
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: physically and mentally is beyond comprehension.
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: You know, a great an athlete just said not too
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: long ago, and I want to get to quote properly,
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: we're not disabled athletes for athletes period.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: They are very accurate. They are athletes. And when I
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: was with the NETS, we had a wheelchair basketball league.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: It was the North American Wheelchair Basketball Association.
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: And still around. They actually helped put together Team USA
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: for the I.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: Say I didn't know that because that used to be
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: my account NWBA.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: Yes, they're still around.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: And they were amazing. I mean, I'm going back, I'm
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: going back thirty years, twenty five, thirty thirty years and
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: they always going a good show at them at the Meadowlands,
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: that's for sure. A one last update Yukon and the
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: Big Twelve. They've taken a pause. The Big Twelve is
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: taking a pause, they announced today.
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: I guess it's because they heard us okay, they didn't
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: want them coun out of the bags.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: They had a pause. I guess they haven't gotten a
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: twelve votes because Commissioner yourn Mark has said that we're
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: putting on on on pause. But from what I hear
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: that Connecticut was all in, and I guess they still
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: can't get the twelve presidents to get that super majority
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: to get at them, and so I'm sure that that
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: they'll still be in play. I'm sure. I know. I
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: know brettyall Mark. I worked with him for a long time.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: He doesn't give up easy. So we'll see what happens there.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: But I also heard something and not I don't know
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: how how strong rumorous is. If the ACC figures out
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: what their situation is, that they might that they might
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: go after Yukon. But I don't know. But I also
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: heard another reason why the Yukon thing got saddled in mud.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: Fox Sports did not want Yukon to leave the Big East.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Even though Fox Sports has the rights to the Big East,
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: they also have the rights to the Big Twelve. But they said,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: this is just me. The way I figure it out,
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: Yukon is more important being in the Big East than
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: being in the Big Twelve because the Big Twelve you
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: have bell Or Basketball, you have Kansas bas You're gonna
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: have Arizona basketball BYU basketball. So we'll see what happens
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: there as as that moves forward.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: And by the way, that that quote, and that's great
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: for that quote was from Beatrice Hats team usays Beatrice Hats,
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: who actually is an amputeue competing in track and field.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: So there you go, and and know it makes sense
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: to keep you con in the Big East. I just
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: went Syracuse will come back because that rivalry was fun
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: in the Big East. But that's another conversation for another day.
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: Lou As you know, it's been a big media day,
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: so I gotta rest up an hour before. Now. I
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: can't believe we're there. We're there, We're write a kickoff.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: It's right in front of it, is there? Yeah, it's
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: an hour away, so I'm looking forward to it.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: All right, I'm gonna launch this in a moment. This
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: could be You're the pregame show for everybody listening to.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: How about that?
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: It's good to be.
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: I'll Alex Garett with Lou Terminello Terminello's Teake once again,
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: September fifth, twenty twenty four. Thanks for joining, Lou.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: Thank you Alex, as always
