- 0:02Hey, welcome to the City Point Church podcast.
- 0:04Thanks for joining us. Every day is an opportunity to
- 0:07take hold of, so we hope this message inspires you and builds
- 0:11your faith, but it helps you have more of a God perspective
- 0:14for your day. Enjoy.
- 0:18In the last 25 years, things have changed.
- 0:22I'm sure that there are ones like Kathy and Ilya who hold
- 0:26dear treasured memories of things that took place in those
- 0:31253045 years for Dan and Anne that are beautiful.
- 0:40But on this day of celebration, I want to say to us as a church.
- 0:44And so would you receive something this morning, Church?
- 0:47Even before I've said it. If you are.
- 0:49Open to go. OK, I'm going to receive this
- 0:51word. Would you just maybe put your?
- 0:53Hands out and say, OK, I'm ready to receive, ready to receive
- 0:59church. We would never stop.
- 1:02We would never Commission to stop praising, put on that
- 1:08garment of praise. I know the expression is
- 1:13different today than maybe the era in which you walked in.
- 1:17Maybe you look at the young people on the Isle or in the on
- 1:21the altar at the beginning who jump around in a certain way,
- 1:27but Once Upon a time that garment of praise had an
- 1:29expression for you. And so I'm going to ask you
- 1:34this. Morning to receive a garment of
- 1:36praise because you know what it deals with.
- 1:42A spirit of. Heaviness.
- 1:45If you've received that this morning, say I take that garment
- 1:48of praise and I put it on and I'm going to express it.
- 1:54I'm going to let it shine out in my life in Jesus name, Amen.
- 2:00Why would I do this on this day of celebration?
- 2:03Do you know? It's really important to know
- 2:06that? Just because.
- 2:07We do things a certain way in the House of God today doesn't
- 2:10mean it's always been done that way.
- 2:12And there were many great ways. Do you know when I came or
- 2:17before I came into? Church the photo Photographs.
- 2:20Up in my amazing church in Townsville showed an era of
- 2:24flags. Who was a part of the Flag era?
- 2:28It was. Awesome.
- 2:29Our whole platform was lined with these giant flags and I
- 2:34have seen video footage on a VHSI know some of you don't know
- 2:39what that is. But avhs of people coming
- 2:43forward in the praise of worship and lifting one of these giant
- 2:46poles and coming down and waving it with their whole body and it
- 2:51took an incredible expression to say God, you are sovereign and
- 2:56you are the banner over this area.
- 2:58And we declare this area for Jesus.
- 3:02Do you know that that is not dead?
- 3:05Who was a part of the flag era? Stand up if you.
- 3:09Waved a flag. Yeah, you did.
- 3:13Yeah, you did. Don't be afraid to wave your.
- 3:22Flag today, Kathy and Elia, don't be afraid.
- 3:30To wave your flag today. The Joy of the.
- 3:39Lord is your strength. I saw you down the back too.
- 3:43Don't be afraid to wave your flag now.
- 3:48When I when I was little, the ultimate praise expression, the
- 3:55ultimate that I looked at when I was all of my little Evelyn's
- 4:01age was to be part of the Daughters of Zion.
- 4:07Come on. Some of you know exactly what
- 4:10I'm talking about here. Some of you know it came with an
- 4:18instrument, all right. And in that.
- 4:23Era from the. Turn of the 70s to the 80s a
- 4:28huge. Altar like this?
- 4:31Would be filled with glorious white skirts to the floor and
- 4:36matching white shirts with a red or purple.
- 4:39Sash that fell to your side. And a glorious tambourine that
- 4:43did not have empty. Space.
- 4:46On. This particular one would have
- 4:49been streams of ribbons, and as a young girl in the house, I
- 4:57caught a passion to praise the Lord because women.
- 5:04Used to. Line this to do this.
- 5:13If you know the song, you need to help me because it's been a
- 5:15while. Dad's going to know this one.
- 5:18It went like this from the rising of the sun to the going
- 5:25down the sun. The Lord's.
- 5:34Made is. To be paced.
- 5:41I'm not going to show the chorus because it involved a spin and
- 5:44then, and I'm just not that good anymore, but I made it to
- 5:51Daughters of Zion by 7 because in that era, this is an
- 5:59expression of how we praised who played a tambourine in church.
- 6:02Stand up, of course. Look, Anne.
- 6:08Oh, Trudy, dead. Look.
- 6:11Don't be afraid like the youth. Jump.
- 6:16Today, you know, unabandoned. I'm trying to match it.
- 6:19It's like a it's like a cool backwards jump of some sort.
- 6:23Chris can do it really well. All right.
- 6:27No, I'm good and I'm done. And you can take the tramp.
- 6:30Damn. I was going to say trampoline.
- 6:32We never did trampolines. We did tambourines but.
- 6:38Every single era has had a way that they praised, and I want to
- 6:42ask why did we stop? Young people never.
- 6:49Stop, don't stop. Do it.
- 6:57Don't get. Too old.
- 7:01It's OK, My body doesn't do some of the things that it once could
- 7:04do either, OK? But at one time.
- 7:10This is this. Is a huge part.
- 7:12Of my childhood in the early. 80s everybody could clap.
- 7:17With enthusiasm come. On if you could clap like that
- 7:24in that era. Would you stand?
- 7:29You had a real arm swing. None of these ones.
- 7:35All these ones, all these ones, they were.
- 7:38Real. Don't stop praising.
- 7:42Bring your expression, that praise that hits your youth and
- 7:47your young adult years. Bring it.
- 7:50Now when revival broke out in the 80s and I remember it
- 7:56because I was a church kid, I was there every day of the week.
- 8:00The whole church would dance. Now my my father-in-law can do
- 8:05this one really well. He can, even in his 70s.
- 8:10And many of you know what we're about to do.
- 8:12And if you did this, I want you to jump on your feet and if you
- 8:14can do it, do it. And if not, grab the person
- 8:17beside you and step it out, 'cause we're going to two step.
- 8:21And that one. Complimented the swinging arms
- 8:33we were built to praise in every era.
- 8:36Don't stop when the young people are jumping. 2 step.
- 8:40When the young people are jumping, climb with your hands.
- 8:44Wave your flags and play your tambourines.
- 8:48This is what the word of God says.
- 8:51It says bring your timbrels. Hello, sounds crazy now.
- 8:57I was really grateful for that era because it also broke some
- 9:00super spiritual things off the church, some religious spirits,
- 9:03because I loved this. It was not uncommon.
- 9:08We would move in the auditorium. Who was in the era where you
- 9:13moved in the auditorium? So either you were moving in a
- 9:19March. Blessing and honor, glory and
- 9:24power be unto. The Ancient of Days, come on,
- 9:27you remember. And we would March around the
- 9:30middle as a church, all right. And those who?
- 9:34Were really talented. I remember my dad doing this
- 9:36were two stepping big clapping in that formation.
- 9:40I can't even do it if I tried, right?
- 9:42But I could in that era, and I had a tambourine.
- 9:46So. And then a move of God swept
- 9:51across our nation and every single one of us no longer felt
- 9:55restrained or restricted by the the seat in front of us.
- 9:59We got out into the aisles and we stood on the altar, 'cause we
- 10:02would go. I went to the enemy's camp and I
- 10:08took back what he stole from me, and I took back what he Come on.
- 10:13If you did. That I want you to.
- 10:14Stand to your feet. Show us how it's done ready
- 10:18because we're going to show what happens after it of.
- 10:20Course you didn't. Solely I can see this.
- 10:23Ready. So I went to the enemy's camp
- 10:28and I took back what he stole from me.
- 10:32Yeah, I took back. Come on, get.
- 10:34Low. We didn't really low.
- 10:36Took back what he stole from me. Yeah.
- 10:39I went to the enemy's camp and I took back what he stole from.
- 10:45Ready. He's under my feet.
- 10:47He's under my feet. He's under my feet.
- 10:51He's under my feet. He's under my feet.
- 10:54He's under my feet. Satan is under my feet.
- 10:59Come on, let's rejoice. Do you know some of you?
- 11:06Who just. Put on your garment of praise
- 11:08are going to have to stomp on the enemy's head.
- 11:11Keep doing it. It's OK in praise and worship
- 11:14when you're like. I came in this morning and this.
- 11:17Is what it? Actually feels like.
- 11:19The enemy is trying to do it my week.
- 11:20So in praise and worship where they're going, praise the Lord.
- 11:24You're going now I can praise. It's OK.
- 11:34I don't remember the Grapevine. What was the Grapevine song we
- 11:38used to do you remember? We'd go across the order from
- 11:42and we'd link arms. Who remembers that song?
- 11:48Donna. Remembers linking arms and going
- 11:50across the auditorium. This is how every era has it all
- 11:55right now. I'm grateful for those eras.
- 11:57You can hear them puffed because of them.
- 12:00They are far more energetic than this era.
- 12:01Because I did not feel that puffed in praise and worship.
- 12:05Thanks. But I'm grateful for it because
- 12:09the 90s came along and it changed.
- 12:14And I remember, I remember the 80s church having a problem with
- 12:19the 90s younger people. I I get it, it was not as
- 12:23expressive as the didn't have tambourines and banners.
- 12:28But that's because we could only pencil jump.
- 12:34Come on, John, we did, didn't we?
- 12:36Pencil jumped. We.
- 12:39Were I'm going to be. A history maker in this land?
- 12:45Come on. And if we weren't doing that, we
- 12:48were taking ground in new ways, big stances with our heads.
- 12:55I'm going to be. The speaker of truth.
- 12:59To all mankind, it's true. John had magnificent hair when
- 13:04he did that in that era. But you know.
- 13:08What kind of? Think about it.
- 13:11I didn't struggle with any mental health in all the era I
- 13:14banged my head around. In my era, they were not talking
- 13:19about anxiety and depression. And we weren't talking about
- 13:26stiff necks either. We were more concerned about how
- 13:30long we could grow our hair. So.
- 13:32That in the. Next meeting.
- 13:33We could throw it. Around Rachel Collins would have
- 13:35been the envy of all the girls. All right, in all seriousness,
- 13:43that spirit of praise that you carried, whatever era, don't let
- 13:48it be gone. It's OK if we see some head
- 13:51banging. We won't come and cast it out.
- 13:58We might check that. But you know what I think
- 14:06happened? I was really reflecting on this
- 14:08this week at the end of the, at the end of the 90s, a specific,
- 14:14specific but very beautiful move of God came through and people
- 14:19fell to their knees. And we call it a seeker
- 14:21movement, but I'm not going to get up very well from this.
- 14:25Just prefacing. But what happened in that era is
- 14:28we went from praising to this. The problem is is we never got
- 14:49up. Do you know why?
- 14:52Because it's hard. Legit what?
- 15:02What? Proceeded from there was an era
- 15:04where we actually lacked praise songs.
- 15:06For those of you who were in the church, you know, we had a big
- 15:10chunk of time. We had amazing worship coming
- 15:13out across the planet and no praise.
- 15:17And so I think for some of us who are from eras of tambourines
- 15:21and flags and two steps and giant arms, big hair, we forgot
- 15:32how to praise church. I would like to say I know I've
- 15:35filled a lot of my time this morning with this, but we can't
- 15:40forget what God did in us in those eras.
- 15:45And when the young people backwards jump, it's actually
- 15:50very comfortable if you give it a try.
- 15:52It's like relaxed on your knees. We can join them with what God
- 16:01did and has continued to do and will continue to do in our lives
- 16:07from here forward. Can I Commission you this
- 16:10morning to get up, to get up and praise?
- 16:14Oh, you are right. And while you're on your feet,
- 16:22why don't you lift a mighty shout of praise to God.
- 16:27You are worthy, You are righteous, You are awesome God,
- 16:32and we will continue to praise you.
- 16:35We will continue to praise you. Hallelujah.
- 16:39Come on, lift your voice up. We can.
- 16:42We will continue to praise you. Can I have the creative team
- 16:46come and join me on the platform?
- 16:48We will continue to praise you God.
- 16:50Church don't tarry. While we wait for a ban, because
- 16:53it doesn't require a ban to praise the Lord, some of you
- 16:57right now need to start to stomp on the enemy's head.
- 17:01Some of you right now begin to wave your arms because you're
- 17:05going to declare He is sovereign and He is Lord.
- 17:08Some of you need to shake your hands like you've got a timbrel
- 17:11in your hands and go. You Lord, have delivered me, so
- 17:16I am going to testify to Your goodness right now.
- 17:20Some of you need to jump up and down and be reminded you were
- 17:24called for a purpose and a generation to make a move in
- 17:29this time. You were asked this and you were
- 17:31called for this season. Some of you need to rush your
- 17:35head and say mental health and depression.
- 17:38You have no say and no place, but I am going to praise the
- 17:43Lord. Come on.
- 17:43Because that's what you do when you believe in Jesus.
- 17:47Come on. Right now we're going to sing
- 17:49Hallelujah. We're going to praise the Lord.
- 17:54We're going. To sing praise.
- 17:57And I don't know what era you came into church.
- 17:59Maybe you came here today and you went, I'm at the stage of
- 18:02war, that's OK, that's OK. Whatever the Lord leads you to,
- 18:11maybe you need, we need to get out of your seat because you
- 18:13know what? Our altars have been empty
- 18:15because we forgot to praise. Get out of your seat and praise
- 18:19the Lord in this house this morning.
- 18:21Hallelujah, Hallelujah. Hallelujah, Hallelujah.
- 18:32Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah.
- 18:38Now, because my message requires substance, I've got to give you
- 18:42some scripture. No, I don't need the pulpit.
- 18:50I used my phone. That is not something for you to
- 18:53learn. Bring your physical Bible
- 18:58church. Bring bring your.
- 18:59Physical Bible generation who didn't do this?
- 19:04You have permission to lead our next generation.
- 19:07Do you know that right now in our nation they are calling us
- 19:11as believers, as the church, biblically illiterate, because
- 19:14we don't know our word. But we need you to example how
- 19:17to open it, how to live by it. Teach us, Teach us.
- 19:23How to? Read it.
- 19:24Teach us how to study it. Teach us.
- 19:26That's another message. Praise Psalm 117.
- 19:32Verse one says praise the Lord. All your nations extol him.
- 19:38All your people, What does that mean?
- 19:41Who here is not by origin or ethnicity?
- 19:45Australian if you are. Anything else?
- 19:47But Australian, put your hand up, praise him, praise him in
- 19:51your language, lift him up. All you peoples extol him, for
- 19:57he is good in this church. You have permission to praise in
- 20:02every language. In every language.
- 20:05Lift him up. 150 verse 6 We have just declared this in song.
- 20:13Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
- 20:20Come on Romans 1511. Praise the Lord all you
- 20:25Gentiles. Who?
- 20:27Here this morning is a Gentile. You're not of Jewish descent.
- 20:31Put your hand up. Praise the Lord.
- 20:33That means you praise the Lord. All you Gentiles let.
