Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch, to get you through. Yeah me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:35Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:36Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other. The backyard, to dig
- 0:39Speaker 1: into the dirt, our mission to uncover the truth, to
- 0:42Speaker 1: confront the myth, to reclaim the story. On this bonus episode,
- 0:46Speaker 1: we're talking about this week's full episode subject Part two
- 0:48Speaker 1: of our fifty cents story. We're rewinding back to our
- 0:51Speaker 1: Rolling Stones episodes and revisiting Oasis as well, previewing our
- 0:55Speaker 1: upcoming episode on Jimmy Buffett, and we get into your voicemails, text, dms,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and as all, a whole lot of rosie. This is
- 1:02Speaker 1: the podcast for the musically obsessed, the outsiders, the independent
- 1:05Speaker 1: thinkers who know that the best history is the history
- 1:08Speaker 1: that gets buried. Disgraceland is where I tell the stories
- 1:11Speaker 1: they didn't want told, the kind you'll end up telling
- 1:13Speaker 1: someone else, all Right, disc goes. Let's get into it
- 1:28Speaker 1: all right. If you were lucky enough to see Oasis
- 1:31Speaker 1: on their latest run, know that I sit here burning
- 1:34Speaker 1: in jealousy. The band announced this morning that they're going
- 1:38Speaker 1: to do more shows for their upcoming thirtieth anniversary next
- 1:42Speaker 1: year at Nebworth. They must have heard our rewind episodes
- 1:46Speaker 1: last week and we're reminded of how badass they are
- 1:49Speaker 1: and how the music world needs them performing to save
- 1:52Speaker 1: us from whatever the hell the MTV Video Music Awards were.
- 1:56Speaker 1: The other night, Thurst and More from Sonic Youth tweeted
- 1:59Speaker 1: that the VMAs is really the bottoming out of music culture,
- 2:04Speaker 1: and I cannot say that I disagree separately. It's hard
- 2:09Speaker 1: to even call what was happening at the VMA's culture.
- 2:13Speaker 1: So much of it seemed fabricated to me, put on faked.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Are those people up front really that stoke to see
- 2:22Speaker 1: Somber perform? Really? Part of the VMAs was always canned
- 2:27Speaker 1: and for the cameras even back in the day. But
- 2:31Speaker 1: long gone is the cultural residence of Snoop performing his
- 2:35Speaker 1: hit single in nineteen ninety four murder was the Case,
- 2:37Speaker 1: and then turning himself into police moments later. On a
- 2:40Speaker 1: murder beef, or Kurt and Courtney sniping backstage with Axel,
- 2:45Speaker 1: or Madonna making out with Britney, or even Kanye bum
- 2:49Speaker 1: rushing tailor. Sure these seem more important because they took
- 2:54Speaker 1: place during our formative years, but they really were more
- 2:59Speaker 1: important than whatever the hell happened the other night at
- 3:01Speaker 1: the VMAs. No one is talking about the VMA's not
- 3:04Speaker 1: really sure conversation is being manufactured. But I make it
- 3:09Speaker 1: my business to try and get a wide view of
- 3:11Speaker 1: music culture. I follow and consume modern music media and organically,
- 3:16Speaker 1: I can tell you the cultural impact of the VMAs
- 3:19Speaker 1: is small, no one really cares. But people are still
- 3:24Speaker 1: talking about those Oasis gigs that happened in Los Angeles
- 3:28Speaker 1: last weekend. People really care about that. Somehow, two irishmen
- 3:32Speaker 1: from Manchester, England, in their fifties, who never really broke
- 3:35Speaker 1: in America before, have conquered America without a single and
- 3:39Speaker 1: with only nostalgia. And the reason isn't just because their
- 3:42Speaker 1: music is great. It's because of what we traffic in
- 3:45Speaker 1: here in disgraceland mythology. The myth of oasis transcends age,
- 3:52Speaker 1: It transcends style, It transcends oceans that separate continents. Blur
- 3:57Speaker 1: might have had the bigger hit in the US back
- 3:59Speaker 1: in the day, and arguably and I'm saying arguably, not definitively,
- 4:04Speaker 1: and I'm letting the word might do a lot of
- 4:06Speaker 1: work here in the sentence. Some people, not me, might
- 4:09Speaker 1: claim that Blur arguably has a better catalog of albums.
- 4:14Speaker 1: But in the end, Oasis won the britpop war. They
- 4:17Speaker 1: conquered America two decades after the fact because of the
- 4:22Speaker 1: myths surrounding who they are, and none of that rock
- 4:26Speaker 1: and roll mythology is put on or canned. Oasis didn't
- 4:32Speaker 1: rule the summer of twenty twenty five both here and
- 4:35Speaker 1: across the pond because of a new single or a
- 4:38Speaker 1: new album, or an unexpected viral video on TikTok or
- 4:42Speaker 1: whatever else. Oasis conquered because everyone loves rock and roll mythology,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and Oasis are mythic. They are legends to their core,
- 4:52Speaker 1: truly authentic, one hundred percent themselves, unafraid to say exactly
- 4:57Speaker 1: what they think, fearless in the face of trends, in
- 5:00Speaker 1: the face of each other, ready to throw down with whomever,
- 5:04Speaker 1: willing to brawl with themselves, with the world, like the
- 5:06Speaker 1: hoodlums that they are at their core, like true rock
- 5:10Speaker 1: and roll stars, not prefab, focus group tested, algorithm approved
- 5:17Speaker 1: artists like Somber or pick whichever other lame musician performed
- 5:22Speaker 1: the other night that made you throw up in your
- 5:24Speaker 1: mouth while you were watching the VMAs whatever that was.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Oasis is the exact opposite, and they've been that for years.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Oasis didn't need canned responses from some bullshit digital marketing campaign.
- 5:40Speaker 1: The myth didn't need to be manufactured because the myth
- 5:43Speaker 1: already exists. We don't need corporations, we don't need algorithms,
- 5:48Speaker 1: we don't need chasm to tell our stories. We never did.
- 5:50Speaker 1: And if Oasis proved anything this summer, it's that we
- 5:53Speaker 1: still don't. If you want to hear exactly what I'm
- 5:56Speaker 1: talking about, check out the two Oasis episodes that are
- 5:58Speaker 1: in the feed right now and hear how the band
- 6:01Speaker 1: rose through the crime and grime of working class Manchester
- 6:04Speaker 1: into what they are today. We've also got another legend
- 6:08Speaker 1: in your feed right now, another outspoken legend. I should say.
- 6:12Speaker 1: I'd love to hear a conversation between Liam Gallagher in
- 6:15Speaker 1: fifty cent By the way, Liam just In a side.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Liam Gallagher dissing Mark Zuckerberg is just Mark Zuckerberg. If
- 6:26Speaker 1: you haven't seen this, posted a pic of him and
- 6:29Speaker 1: his wife at Oasis, and I forget what Liam's Liam's
- 6:32Speaker 1: quote was, or his comment on the post was. It
- 6:35Speaker 1: was something like go home, nerd, something like that. It's
- 6:39Speaker 1: just fucking perfect. I'd love to hear Liam Gallagher in
- 6:43Speaker 1: fifty cent talking let's let's make that happen. But anyways,
- 6:47Speaker 1: in your feed right now, our part two episode on
- 6:49Speaker 1: fifty cent and the myths surrounding who exactly was responsible
- 6:52Speaker 1: for shooting fifty Fidty whatever the hell you want to
- 6:54Speaker 1: call him. That's our new part two episode on fifty
- 6:57Speaker 1: cent and coming up next in your feed. Immediately after
- 6:59Speaker 1: this bonus episode, we are rewinding our Rolling Stones Parts
- 7:04Speaker 1: one and two if you want to dip back into
- 7:06Speaker 1: the way back British pop star machine and get a
- 7:09Speaker 1: glimpse of what the tabloids scaffolding that would support and
- 7:13Speaker 1: consume Oasis later in the nineties was all about. This
- 7:17Speaker 1: is a good piece of music history for context. Okay,
- 7:20Speaker 1: Rolling Stones Part one and two check that out next week.
- 7:24Speaker 1: I can't wait. I can't wait for next week's episode
- 7:26Speaker 1: of Disgraceland, God's own drunk hits your feed when Jimmy
- 7:30Speaker 1: Buffett drifts into your ears. Will you arrive on a
- 7:33Speaker 1: drug trafficker cigarette boat or will you arrive half stoned
- 7:36Speaker 1: and just a tiny bit loaded on his Boston Whaler?
- 7:40Speaker 1: Or will he show up with bono fresh from dodging
- 7:42Speaker 1: Jamaican bullets. You're gonna have to listen to find out.
- 7:45Speaker 1: So so, so, so, so so so much information in
- 7:51Speaker 1: this Jimmy Buffett story. We couldn't cram it all into
- 7:53Speaker 1: a thirty minute episode, but I've got a way to
- 7:55Speaker 1: bring you more of the music and true crime on
- 7:58Speaker 1: the Rag in a different format. I'm excited to share
- 8:02Speaker 1: with you more on that in coming weeks, though. Right now,
- 8:04Speaker 1: back to the King of the Parrot heeads. I couldn't
- 8:06Speaker 1: stand Jimmy Buffett growing up, and I'm sure there's a
- 8:10Speaker 1: bunch of you who feel the same. I'm sure the
- 8:12Speaker 1: opposite is true to you. I know there are Jimmy
- 8:14Speaker 1: Buffett fans out there listening right now because you recommended
- 8:16Speaker 1: this episode. You got me hip to Jimmy Buffett, and
- 8:20Speaker 1: now I've got nothing but respect for the son of
- 8:21Speaker 1: a son of a sailor, and I can tell you
- 8:23Speaker 1: firsthand that those first five or six albums, for all
- 8:26Speaker 1: the Buffett doubters out there, those first five or six
- 8:29Speaker 1: albums are pretty great. They truly are. If you're into
- 8:33Speaker 1: the band that's sort of early seventies I guess all
- 8:38Speaker 1: of the seventies Dylan stuff, even some Graham Parsons at
- 8:42Speaker 1: alt country stuff like give that early pre Margaritaville, Jimmy
- 8:46Speaker 1: Buffett stuff. All listen, you're not going to be disappointed.
- 8:50Speaker 1: And when you're listening to Jimmy Buffett next week, the
- 8:52Speaker 1: Jimmy Buffett episode of Disgrace Land next week, I should
- 8:55Speaker 1: be more clear. When you're listening to that episode, I
- 8:59Speaker 1: want you to be thinking about which artists did you
- 9:02Speaker 1: previously just dislike, not be able to stand, that you
- 9:06Speaker 1: now find yourself loving. This is a long list for me, Okay, Genesis, anything,
- 9:12Speaker 1: Phil Collins, really Steely Dan. You know my history with
- 9:15Speaker 1: the Grateful Dead. But I want to know which artists
- 9:17Speaker 1: you now love that you once hated six one seven,
- 9:21Speaker 1: nine oh six sixty six three eight voicemail and text
- 9:24Speaker 1: with your answers to next week's Question of the Week.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I'll be back right after this with your answers to
- 9:30Speaker 1: last week's question of the week. Guys, the twenty twenty
- 9:54Speaker 1: five MTV video music words are what happens when we
- 9:57Speaker 1: let corporations steer the culture. That's where we're at right now, unfortunately,
- 10:02Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five, when music's driven by marketing departments
- 10:07Speaker 1: instead of what we're calling myth. Now, if you feel
- 10:10Speaker 1: like today's music culture doesn't reflect the stuff you care about,
- 10:13Speaker 1: you're not wrong and you're not alone. And that's why
- 10:16Speaker 1: disgrace Land exists. And this is what me and the
- 10:19Speaker 1: disco community are up to in the Patreon chat on
- 10:21Speaker 1: the regular daily discussing and obsessing over the legends and
- 10:25Speaker 1: myths and music history that matter most, reclaiming the sanitized
- 10:28Speaker 1: music history stories from the chasm gatekeepers, revealing what really
- 10:32Speaker 1: happened Elliot Smith, and arming you with stories about music
- 10:38Speaker 1: legends that will make you dangerous at dinner party. So,
- 10:41Speaker 1: if you want a like minded community of music and
- 10:44Speaker 1: culture obsessives access to me and Zeth on the reg
- 10:47Speaker 1: and no ads, head to disgrace lampod dot com slash
- 10:51Speaker 1: membership and become a member of our little club today
- 10:53Speaker 1: for just under five bucks a month before prices go up.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Every week, guys, every week, I'm in the same damn
- 10:59Speaker 1: spot at the same time right now. You know where
- 11:01Speaker 1: I'm at. I'm in the phone with the one across
- 11:03Speaker 1: the hall. I'm hanging on the telephone hoping to pick
- 11:05Speaker 1: up that sweet comfort of your voices and get your
- 11:08Speaker 1: answers to last week's question of the week, Which hip
- 11:10Speaker 1: hop star living or dead would you most want to
- 11:13Speaker 1: hang out with or grab a drink with or whatever?
- 11:16Speaker 1: We asked this because obviously of our fifty cent Part
- 11:19Speaker 1: two episode. In the feed, Karen from the six four
- 11:22Speaker 1: to six hit us up. Let's hear from Karen.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Hey, Jake, what's up?
- 11:25Speaker 3: It's Karen in the six four six.
- 11:27Speaker 4: I don't know if I'm too late.
- 11:28Speaker 3: I just heard your question from.
- 11:30Speaker 4: The bonus episode, like which hip hop or if you
- 11:33Speaker 4: want to talk to you and spend some time with
- 11:36Speaker 4: and have a drink with.
- 11:36Speaker 3: And ask questions and just have a good conversation with.
- 11:39Speaker 4: And immediately I thought.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Chuck D of course, rock and roller bro.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Karen, Chuck D. You know I I that if it
- 11:49Speaker 1: weren't for fifty cent, that would be my answer. I
- 11:52Speaker 1: can make it. I can make a case for Q
- 11:53Speaker 1: Tip as well. A lot of people said, Chuck d Karen,
- 11:56Speaker 1: You're not alone. Let's go to Tony in the two six.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Jake, what's going on? Brother Tony from the two oh six?
- 12:05Speaker 4: To answer your question, I would want to have a conversation,
- 12:08Speaker 4: sit down, a conversation with none of the legend himself.
- 12:13Speaker 4: Ll cool j I mean, the man essentially has kind
- 12:16Speaker 4: of been around since the birth of hip hop. You
- 12:18Speaker 4: gotta remember, he was the first act signed to death Jam.
- 12:22Speaker 4: He's the first solo rapper to go platinum, so you know,
- 12:25Speaker 4: he's got tons of stories. Guys around eighties nineties especially,
- 12:30Speaker 4: you know, what was it like making that transition into
- 12:32Speaker 4: acting but still also being you know, still known as
- 12:36Speaker 4: a as a legitimate rapper. You know, did he have
- 12:40Speaker 4: a really have a problem with Tupac over the fact
- 12:43Speaker 4: that him and Tupac at one point both dated Cadatta
- 12:46Speaker 4: Jones allegedly, But you know, yeah, that would be the
- 12:50Speaker 4: guy who I really want to have a conversation with.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Much love loved this episode piece, LL.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Cool Jake, great choice. He goes so far back back
- 13:01Speaker 1: to the beginning. I mean, living icon. This guy not
- 13:05Speaker 1: the Chuck Tea isn't but Tony, I love this one,
- 13:08Speaker 1: and I love this one because I'm gonna ta you
- 13:09Speaker 1: a very very quick story. Not so long ago, I
- 13:14Speaker 1: found myself on a zoom or about to join a
- 13:19Speaker 1: zoom that I knew L Coolja was going to be on.
- 13:21Speaker 1: It was just going to be me and Todd that's
- 13:24Speaker 1: his real name. We were told in advance to make
- 13:26Speaker 1: sure we call him Todd. It was just gonna be me, Todd,
- 13:28Speaker 1: my business partner at the time, and Todd's guy. And
- 13:34Speaker 1: most times I get into these zooms. I get into these,
- 13:37Speaker 1: you know, a little bit early, and either way it works.
- 13:41Speaker 1: In Hollywood, they have like at the high level of
- 13:44Speaker 1: music industry, And forgive me if you guys know this
- 13:46Speaker 1: stuff whatever, I'm just saying it for those who don't.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Typically the artist, a big artist like that, their representation
- 13:54Speaker 1: is on the phone first without them, and it's such
- 14:01Speaker 1: a power move. I kind of love it. They don't,
- 14:04Speaker 1: so the star won't come onto the call or into
- 14:07Speaker 1: the zoom until their rep lets him know that everybody's there.
- 14:12Speaker 1: So and I get it. It's I wouldn't do that,
- 14:15Speaker 1: but I understand. It's like they're trying to manage their time.
- 14:19Speaker 1: You could say, you know, generously, that's the reason for this,
- 14:21Speaker 1: or they just don't want to fuck around with small
- 14:23Speaker 1: talk with people they don't know, so they come in
- 14:25Speaker 1: at the absolute last minute and they are right down
- 14:27Speaker 1: to business. They're super charming. They make you feel good,
- 14:31Speaker 1: and then you're right into what you're going to talk about.
- 14:33Speaker 1: So I get on the zoom expecting that to happen,
- 14:36Speaker 1: and I get on the zoom and it's literally just
- 14:39Speaker 1: me in LL cool J, and he just goes. The
- 14:43Speaker 1: first thing he says is double Elvis in that LL
- 14:47Speaker 1: cool J voice because he saw it pop up on
- 14:50Speaker 1: my zoom Moniker, and he couldn't have been cooler. He
- 14:54Speaker 1: was attentive, he was informed, he knew what was up.
- 14:58Speaker 1: And like all A lists celebrities that I've met and
- 15:01Speaker 1: been around, they make you. The A list celebrities make
- 15:06Speaker 1: you feel great. They come at you with all that
- 15:09Speaker 1: charm and you're just like, oh fuck, I totally get
- 15:12Speaker 1: why this guy is so fucking famous and successful. Bless
- 15:17Speaker 1: celebrities kind of the same thing, kind of to a
- 15:20Speaker 1: lesser degree, cless celebrities. That's when the sort of like
- 15:24Speaker 1: you can feel you can feel the what is it?
- 15:30Speaker 1: You can feel some insecurity and perhaps some venom. You
- 15:34Speaker 1: can feel a little bit of I don't know, angst.
- 15:38Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. And this is not my take,
- 15:40Speaker 1: by the way. This comes from Paul Shecher, who a
- 15:42Speaker 1: lovely guy. I just ran into him randomly one night
- 15:46Speaker 1: at a bar and we got to talking and he
- 15:48Speaker 1: told me this story. And then I went on his
- 15:50Speaker 1: podcast and I went on how did this get made?
- 15:53Speaker 1: And we talked about it there as well with his
- 15:55Speaker 1: partner Jason. But this is his theory. I don't want
- 15:57Speaker 1: to take credit for it. I want to confirm ITL
- 15:59Speaker 1: cool Ja confirms it, and uh yeah, I guess I
- 16:02Speaker 1: really I you know, I didn't hang with LLL. I
- 16:04Speaker 1: had a business meeting with him, but it was still
- 16:06Speaker 1: very very very cool. Kevin from the three one four
- 16:09Speaker 1: so I can stop talking to here play the three one.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Format, Jake, Kevin call him from the three one four.
- 16:14Speaker 3: I been listening from day one, but my first time
- 16:16Speaker 3: calling in. You asked about who would you like to
- 16:19Speaker 3: talk to in the hip hop community? I hate hip hop,
- 16:24Speaker 3: but I will tell you Ice Tea why for all
- 16:28Speaker 3: the obvious reasons, but not the obvious reasons, right, I mean,
- 16:31Speaker 3: come on, the guy was in a legend in that world,
- 16:34Speaker 3: became an actor body Count, the guy turning to a
- 16:37Speaker 3: metal act a metal act, and that's unheard of anyway.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Would love your thoughts, peace out, Roger Rolla.
- 16:46Speaker 1: All right, Kevin, I gotta quibble with the hating hip
- 16:48Speaker 1: hop comment. I don't know how that's possible. I don't
- 16:51Speaker 1: know how you how do you hate ice tea? So so,
- 16:54Speaker 1: if I'm listening to you correctly, you like body Count,
- 16:59Speaker 1: you don't like iced tea rap stuff, and I just
- 17:02Speaker 1: you know, well, I like that. You want to hang
- 17:04Speaker 1: out with him anyways, maybe he'll maybe he'll open your
- 17:06Speaker 1: mind to hip hop. I hope. So seven one six
- 17:09Speaker 1: text in on the same question. This always feels like
- 17:11Speaker 1: a flex when I say it out loud. Hey, I
- 17:13Speaker 1: don't care about flex and i'd share your stories man.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Seven one six says, Uh, it might sound like a
- 17:18Speaker 1: flex when I say it out loud, but it kind
- 17:20Speaker 1: of is. I would spend more time with Chuck D. Yep,
- 17:23Speaker 1: more time after his book Fight, The Power, Rap, Race
- 17:26Speaker 1: and Reality. I got to see Chuck D talk about it.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Such a robust piece of work, and at that time
- 17:31Speaker 1: I ran a nonprofit and get to spend a little
- 17:32Speaker 1: bit of time with him afterwards, talking about generational poverty
- 17:35Speaker 1: and housing issues. It was the most interesting and meaningful
- 17:38Speaker 1: conversation of my career. Love that seven one six, Love
- 17:44Speaker 1: that you got to hang with Chuck d You were
- 17:45Speaker 1: very lucky, super cool. All right, what are we doing here,
- 17:49Speaker 1: Let's go to the I'm gonna read you a text
- 17:53Speaker 1: here from the nine oh four if I can find it.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Where's it at? Where's it at? Where's it at? Right here?
- 17:58Speaker 1: Jake spent from the nine oh four In today's after party,
- 18:02Speaker 1: Spencer's referring to the last after party. Are you talking
- 18:08Speaker 1: about a two in a snore the session of John,
- 18:11Speaker 1: Paul and Stevie. If so, it exists, I've listened to it.
- 18:15Speaker 1: It's them jamming stand by Me and other songs. It's fantastic.
- 18:19Speaker 1: You can even hear John ask Stevie if he wants
- 18:21Speaker 1: to bump at one point, Spencer, I love this, and
- 18:24Speaker 1: I get to apologize to everybody out there. I thought
- 18:27Speaker 1: this was some like actual, real mythic piece of content
- 18:31Speaker 1: that no one can get their hands on. I know it.
- 18:33Speaker 1: You can just go on YouTube and find this and
- 18:37Speaker 1: I feel really stupid. So that's gonna happen. We're all
- 18:41Speaker 1: gonna feel stupid in our lives. Spencer. Thanks for pointing
- 18:43Speaker 1: this out. I guess you know, guys, what we're talking
- 18:44Speaker 1: about here is last week we were talking about mythical
- 18:46Speaker 1: recording sessions, and we talked about John Lennon, Paul McCartney,
- 18:50Speaker 1: and Stevie Wonder. And I always heard that Ringo was
- 18:53Speaker 1: there too, Spencer. I might not be wrong, but y'all
- 18:55Speaker 1: can figure this out for yourselves.
- 18:57Speaker 3: Now.
- 18:57Speaker 1: You don't need me. You can go to YouTube and
- 18:58Speaker 1: just snore and just snort and just search for a
- 19:01Speaker 1: twot in a snore. There you go. Thank you, Spencer.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Over in what part of the world we're going too? Next,
- 19:08Speaker 1: let's go to the nine to one six.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Hey it Smithson Taylor from Raleigh, North Carolina. I'm sitting
- 19:16Speaker 2: here in Los Angeles, California, after what is arguably maybe
- 19:23Speaker 2: the best couds that I've ever seen Oasis at the
- 19:26Speaker 2: Rose Bowl. It was every bit as epic as was promised.
- 19:32Speaker 2: It was better than I could have imagined. The band
- 19:36Speaker 2: is just so tight. Liam is every bit the street
- 19:40Speaker 2: walking cheetah. He ever was. They had us in the
- 19:44Speaker 2: palm of their hand for the entire show. Eighty thousand
- 19:49Speaker 2: fans could not get enough. It was just an endless
- 19:53Speaker 2: see of the happiest people you've ever seen withnessing a
- 19:58Speaker 2: band in their crime, which is crazy to think because
- 20:03Speaker 2: it's been thirty years and they're still doing this at
- 20:06Speaker 2: the highest level. The show was incredible, The screens were amazing,
- 20:11Speaker 2: the set pieces were just so fascinating and interesting, and
- 20:15Speaker 2: everybody in that entire stadium was having the time of
- 20:18Speaker 2: their lives. Great show. I just I'm at a loss
- 20:24Speaker 2: for words at how well they have put this together,
- 20:28Speaker 2: how great they looked and sounded. Oasis is maybe the
- 20:32Speaker 2: biggest rock band in the world right now because they
- 20:34Speaker 2: belong in stadiums like that, and they will pack a
- 20:38Speaker 2: stadium every time they show up because it's the best
- 20:40Speaker 2: show on earth. That's all I got to say, rock
- 20:44Speaker 2: and roll to Jake, I'm going a loss for words.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Nine one six, you are confirming the first five hundred
- 20:50Speaker 1: words of this episode. Here my rave on on Oasis,
- 20:56Speaker 1: and I'm happy you were there. I have extreme fomo
- 20:59Speaker 1: not going to these shows. I don't have a lot
- 21:03Speaker 1: of regrets in life. This is one of them. I
- 21:05Speaker 1: might have to go to ned Worth, might be happening.
- 21:08Speaker 1: I don't know where the hell is Networth. I don't
- 21:10Speaker 1: even know, all right, guys. Usually I talked about this
- 21:13Speaker 1: yesterday in the Patreon to some of the Patreon listeners.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Used to be I just released twenty four episodes a year.
- 21:20Speaker 1: I'd release one every other week, not even every other week.
- 21:23Speaker 1: It was, you know, that was the schedule, and it
- 21:26Speaker 1: was more of an event when a disgraced aand episode
- 21:27Speaker 1: would come out. Now we've got we're always on. We've
- 21:30Speaker 1: got multiple episodes per week. Feels less like an event
- 21:33Speaker 1: on social media. When I would do just twenty four
- 21:36Speaker 1: a year, i'd release one, I'd wake up in the morning,
- 21:39Speaker 1: I'd open Instagram and Facebook and there'd be this you
- 21:42Speaker 1: know a lot of people, lots of big conversation immediately,
- 21:46Speaker 1: just like that. Now the conversation, there's a big conversation,
- 21:48Speaker 1: but it's always happening, it's always on. Just like the episodes.
- 21:52Speaker 1: It doesn't feel as eventized, and it's also fragmented. We're
- 21:56Speaker 1: talking about a gazillion different things at once. We're not
- 21:58Speaker 1: spending as much time talking about you know, one single
- 22:01Speaker 1: episode like fifty cent Part two this week. What I
- 22:05Speaker 1: did yesterday I went on Patreon in the afternoon and
- 22:08Speaker 1: I just I just started a live stream and I
- 22:10Speaker 1: started talking to some folks, and I think I'm gonna
- 22:11Speaker 1: do that every Tuesday on release days with new episodes.
- 22:14Speaker 1: And if you're around, you're in the Patreon chat, get
- 22:17Speaker 1: on in there on Tuesdays and we'll chop it up
- 22:19Speaker 1: about I guess next week we'll be talking about Jimmy Buffett.
- 22:22Speaker 1: All right, so the parrot heeads. This is your chance,
- 22:24Speaker 1: this is your chance. You want to escapism Disgraceland style,
- 22:26Speaker 1: You're gonna get it firsthand from me next Tuesday in
- 22:29Speaker 1: the Patreon chat. I don't know, sometime est afternoon. Maybe
- 22:34Speaker 1: I'll push it seven to eight early evening so West
- 22:38Speaker 1: Coast folks can jump in. I know we get a
- 22:40Speaker 1: lot of listeners in California and Los Angeles. Speaking to listeners,
- 22:43Speaker 1: I want to shout out Kimberly Harris from the Patreon
- 22:46Speaker 1: community for being in especially awesome Disgraceland All Access member.
- 22:50Speaker 1: She's always in the chat. She's always bringing something new
- 22:53Speaker 1: information wise, bringing something new to the community. She's obviously
- 22:57Speaker 1: appreciated by all. Plus she just had a birthday. So Kimberly,
- 23:00Speaker 1: if you're listening, know that we appreciate you. And then
- 23:02Speaker 1: I'm personally grateful for your continued support and i am
- 23:05Speaker 1: no Mitch. Big shout out to everyone else who jumped
- 23:08Speaker 1: into the unannounced live stream on Tuesday night with me.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Let's do more of that. I'm gonna take a quick break.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I'll be back in a flash. So this week in
- 23:28Speaker 1: hollywood Land, on our Hollywoodland podcast, we let loose our
- 23:31Speaker 1: Carrie Fisher episode from the Vault into the Archive, into
- 23:36Speaker 1: the Wild. You can hear that now, and you can
- 23:38Speaker 1: hear Zeth talking movie history and true crime in the
- 23:42Speaker 1: Rap Party episode as well. So we do a full
- 23:45Speaker 1: episode from the archive of hollywood Land every week. Plus
- 23:48Speaker 1: Zeth does his version of a bonus episode called the
- 23:51Speaker 1: Rap Party, which people are loving. And I'm psyched for that,
- 23:55Speaker 1: and I'm psyched that you're all welcoming Zeth and supporting
- 23:58Speaker 1: him in the community. This wasn't really planned. It just
- 24:01Speaker 1: kind of happened, and it's you know, Zesk got his
- 24:04Speaker 1: own thing going on. He's got a point of view
- 24:06Speaker 1: on a lot of stuff. And you guys, you guys,
- 24:07Speaker 1: are down with it, and I love that. I love that,
- 24:10Speaker 1: So subscribe to hollywood Land wherever you get your podcasts
- 24:13Speaker 1: you want a little bit more true crime, but this
- 24:15Speaker 1: from the Hollywood side of the fence. Zeth and I
- 24:18Speaker 1: used to drop our music in movie recks in the
- 24:21Speaker 1: wrap party in the Hollywood Land feed, but from now
- 24:24Speaker 1: on they are going to live here in the after
- 24:26Speaker 1: party inside the exclusive section. This week, I've got some
- 24:31Speaker 1: killer music picks related to Carrie Fisher. If you can
- 24:35Speaker 1: believe that, Zess got is movie recommendations, and I might
- 24:37Speaker 1: even throw together a little playlist just for the All
- 24:40Speaker 1: Access members. But to hear it and to you know,
- 24:42Speaker 1: get all that, you get everything else we're dropping weekly.
- 24:44Speaker 1: You got to be an All Access member. Go to
- 24:46Speaker 1: disgrace lampod dot com slash membership sign up now for
- 24:49Speaker 1: just five bucks a month. Well he still can That price,
- 24:51Speaker 1: like I said, is going up soon. And the recommendations,
- 24:54Speaker 1: it's just the start of it, all right, just the
- 24:57Speaker 1: start of what you're going to get as a Disgraceland
- 24:59Speaker 1: All Access member. Get a little taste, Matt, give him
- 25:02Speaker 1: a little taste here this week's exclusive segment to the
- 25:04Speaker 1: show that you're gonna be missing if you're not an
- 25:06Speaker 1: All accessmember. Guys, this is me and Zeth going deep
- 25:09Speaker 1: into the recommendation's rabbit hole. All right, let me get
- 25:12Speaker 1: to the next recommendation here. Fishermen's Blues. Okay, Carrie, Carrie
- 25:18Speaker 1: Fisher Fisherman's Blues by the water Boys water Boys, Yeah,
- 25:23Speaker 1: nineteen eighty eight album of the same name. Zeth Lundy,
- 25:27Speaker 1: what's up with the water Boys? And why are they
- 25:29Speaker 1: my new favorite band? What is this song? Is fucking tremendous,
- 25:33Speaker 1: It's so good.
- 25:34Speaker 5: Have you heard that new Dennis Hopper record they have?
- 25:36Speaker 5: It's like some song cycle about Dennis Hopper or something.
- 25:39Speaker 5: Isn't that the water Boys?
- 25:40Speaker 1: I think so. It's the water Boys have come up
- 25:42Speaker 1: so much recently and going as far back, talk about
- 25:46Speaker 1: the nineties high school when I was like moving furniture
- 25:50Speaker 1: in Boston for Dan's van, and the Irish guys just
- 25:54Speaker 1: constantly trying to get me to listen to the water Boys,
- 25:56Speaker 1: and I never I never did.
- 25:58Speaker 5: Was the dude from was the dude from World Party
- 26:00Speaker 5: in that band? Originally?
- 26:01Speaker 1: Right? They have a song called World Party? And I
- 26:03Speaker 1: don't know the answer to your question.
- 26:05Speaker 5: I think he was who was the like, the the
- 26:07Speaker 5: main songwriter in that band.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Do you remember Mike Scott I believe is his name?
- 26:11Speaker 5: Huh okay, Cool Water Boys are kind of a blind
- 26:13Speaker 5: spot for me, honestly.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Big blind spot for me. I'm remedying that today. This song,
- 26:19Speaker 1: Fisherman's Blues. I put it on this morning and I was,
- 26:23Speaker 1: I was, it's not even like a happy go lucky.
- 26:25Speaker 1: It's not. It's not it's kind of like mid tempo.
- 26:28Speaker 1: It just it's it's it's got rock and roll abandoned
- 26:31Speaker 1: at its core, like like Dylan in the seventies with
- 26:35Speaker 1: a band behind him, like the best version of that.
- 26:37Speaker 1: That's what it reminded me of, like Street Legal or
- 26:40Speaker 1: something like that. It was so fucking good, and it
- 26:43Speaker 1: just I had a moment this morning, like a life
- 26:46Speaker 1: affirming moment that music will do to you every once
- 26:49Speaker 1: in a while, and it was this song and it
- 26:51Speaker 1: just it blew my mind. And you know, the refrain
- 26:53Speaker 1: is I want to be a fisher fisherman or something
- 26:55Speaker 1: like that. You know, I want to be a fucking fisherman.
- 26:57Speaker 1: I really truly do. Alrighty www dot disgracelampod dot com
