- 0:14Hello and welcome to Arguing Ever After.
- 0:16I am Luke and this is Amber. Hello.
- 0:19Together we're the Lord and Lady who lock horns.
- 0:21The counting Countess of contention.
- 0:23The Duke and Duchess of Disagreement.
- 0:25And the king and queen of quarrels.
- 0:28In this podcast, we will bicker about all things big and small.
- 0:31We will use the scientific method of counting your votes to
- 0:35determine who the winner is. Many of our topics are
- 0:38frequently submitted by our listeners, which we actually
- 0:41like and need, so if you have something you want us to battle
- 0:44about, please share it with us at arguingeverafter@gmail.com.
- 0:49And here we are, like halfway most of the way through holly
- 0:53jolly season We. Don't have to make it seem like
- 0:54it's too too long and we want to shorten it.
- 0:58No, I OK. I mean, we're, we're almost
- 1:01halfway through December. Yes, yes.
- 1:06And that's, that's a lot. I mean, there's, there's not
- 1:10much more shopping time. How are you doing on your
- 1:12shopping? I feel semi OK.
- 1:16Yeah. Which probably means I'm 80%
- 1:18done. I do too.
- 1:20I feel pretty good. I have just a little bit left to
- 1:22do. But you know, of course,
- 1:24watching those delivery times like a hawk.
- 1:27Oh, yeah, And then you get the emails.
- 1:30Sorry, your delivery has been delayed.
- 1:32It's like, yeah, I know this happens every year.
- 1:36Every year. My favorite shopping thing that
- 1:38happened this year was you video chatting me at work today at a
- 1:43craft fair full of all the Christmas things.
- 1:46Yeah, yeah, 'cause I knew. It was so kind of you.
- 1:49For someone who's not quite as holly and jolly.
- 1:52I'm not as the season. I'm not, but I knew it was a
- 1:56very specific craft show. It would only be on today.
- 2:00There was a ton of Christmas crafts and I knew that you were
- 2:07looking for a few additional items for our household.
- 2:10And did we get a couple winners? Oh boy.
- 2:13Yeah, and I really like art shows, craft shows, things like
- 2:17that because you have some unique things.
- 2:19And honestly, like support a small business is nice.
- 2:23You do like an antique as well, we know.
- 2:25That I like antiques too. From the from the the bonus
- 2:29episode of show and tell that we do.
- 2:31That's a good call back. Yeah.
- 2:33So anyhow, I yeah, it just seemed you wouldn't be able to
- 2:37be there at all. There is one more somewhere else
- 2:40and we can talk about that later.
- 2:42It's a pretty big one. It might be something you might
- 2:46be interested in, but. This is the secret.
- 2:50No, I just don't think that the audience cares about it.
- 2:52OK, well, I love all the Christmas things, so it's fine.
- 2:57I'm going to be excited. And talking about Christmas
- 2:59shopping. Yeah, we had gone out Christmas
- 3:03shopping last weekend at the biggest mall.
- 3:08Mall of America. And we had brought our 13 year
- 3:11old daughter and she wanted to buy some gifts for her friends,
- 3:14which is great. Using her allowance.
- 3:16Using her own money. And we go to a very large store,
- 3:22a very large company, and she goes to pay and she's got cash
- 3:28because she doesn't have a credit card, right?
- 3:32And well, her total was like $13.21 and so she hands them, I
- 3:40don't know, like a 20 or something like that, doesn't
- 3:43really matter, but she didn't hand them any change and she
- 3:47gets back for coins $0.75 now it.
- 3:53Doesn't add up. It doesn't add up and the
- 3:56checkout guy said we don't have pennies.
- 3:59There's a pennies aren't being printed anymore.
- 4:01Minted. Sure, sure, they don't make them
- 4:06anymore. And I said so we eat the
- 4:10difference and I, I was like low key mad, but I realized it was
- 4:19just four cents so I walked away.
- 4:22I wasn't going to make anything weird for our daughter or anyone
- 4:26else in line, but I'm still kind of a little mad about it 'cause
- 4:30this corporation's huge. You know you should do.
- 4:33Write a letter. I know but but the cost of the
- 4:36stamp to write the letter. You could write an electronic
- 4:40letter I. Could write an electric.
- 4:41Letter. Oh my goodness.
- 4:43I could, I guess. I guess that's a possibility.
- 4:45I recently wrote an electronic letter to a local eatery that we
- 4:50enjoy who totally botched our drive through order.
- 4:53They did and they said so sorry you had a bad experience, here's
- 4:58a refund and some free meals. Give us another shot.
- 5:01I don't think that would be the answer.
- 5:03It just seems like real scammy to me that the customer is going
- 5:07to eat the pennies that exist. That's for sure scammy.
- 5:12But. I think that almost for sure
- 5:17it's gonna end up in court because there's no way companies
- 5:20are just gonna be able to pocket on the small scale.
- 5:23Maybe it's hundreds on the large scale for multi point franchises
- 5:28and then for like multinational places that have, well, I guess
- 5:32it wouldn't matter in multi anyway, like millions of dollars
- 5:35that they're just taking from the American consumer.
- 5:37It's going to end up in court. They're going to lose.
- 5:40And then I think the stores are going to have to print like a
- 5:43voucher, like an in store credit for like here's your four cents.
- 5:46Which is silly, but OK. I get the argument that pennies
- 5:53cost more than they were worth. That's a fair argument.
- 5:57It doesn't make the making of change any easier, of course,
- 6:00but at least if you give someone a version of tender for their
- 6:07change that they should have had, even though that locks you
- 6:10back into their store, which is even that's a little like I
- 6:13don't love that I. Don't like that.
- 6:14No, I don't like it but. They're not gonna be able to
- 6:17just keep. It no.
- 6:18Well, they did they. Did or hey bring change or like?
- 6:22That is going to be my life hack #5 for all of those.
- 6:26They're gonna run out of pennies though, like.
- 6:28It doesn't matter. Life hack #5 for all of you
- 6:30folks. #5 we're at. Yes, this is number 5.
- 6:35Ask before you pay in cash. That's a good call.
- 6:38And then? If you don't have exact change.
- 6:41Don't do it because and. What you could do if they take
- 6:44it, write them a check cuz it costs them more to process a
- 6:47check. It does.
- 6:48For real, I know I run a business.
- 6:50It literally costs more to process a check.
- 6:53Well, I just didn't. And The thing is, it's the
- 6:56principle. But.
- 6:58Especially with a lot of places now charging like a a fee on 2
- 7:01two or three or 4% fee on your credit card which is federally
- 7:05legal. Which is that's silly to me.
- 7:10But like maybe maybe the new answer is if you have exact
- 7:13change, bring it. If you don't cuz pennies run out
- 7:16at some point, bring a check. I mean, but so many companies
- 7:20won't take checks anymore. I don't know that's true.
- 7:23I'm just like it's, it shouldn't cost me extra money to spend
- 7:27money at a business that wants my money for sure.
- 7:31So I don't know, that's a it's probably too long of a rant, but
- 7:36I just need you all to know the scam that's going on.
- 7:39It's a scam and it's only large companies because I've gone to
- 7:42small companies and when I've not had the pennies they've
- 7:44given, they've spotted me the pennies.
- 7:46They round up for you. Yeah, so this is one of the
- 7:49reasons why shopping local is so important.
- 7:53I mean, that being said, let's tell the truth.
- 7:56We provide a lot of revenue to Amazon.
- 8:00Too much, Too much. They just make it so easy.
- 8:04They do. And I don't know, I mean, I'm
- 8:07cool with it. I don't hate it.
- 8:10I also like buying from a small business, especially if, like, I
- 8:13can meet the person that owns the place.
- 8:15Like, that's cool, you know? Yeah.
- 8:18But anyhow, we'll be wrapping up that stuff.
- 8:21Oh goodness, you got it wrapping up.
- 8:24I sadly did. I did get that joke.
- 8:25Yeah, so, but there's other ways that you like preparing for the
- 8:31Christmas Day. There's a lot.
- 8:34Like some traditions or what do you what do you like to do?
- 8:37What are your hot what? Is the word I'm looking for.
- 8:39Well, the first thing I do every year is decorate the house.
- 8:44That's the first thing I do. So I start with the outside.
- 8:48Yep, cuz Minnesota this year. That's the reason I do it.
- 8:52Like I usually it's mid November is when I decorate the outside
- 8:56of the house cuz usually there's a couple of decent days weather
- 8:59wise, but you never know when it's gonna turn.
- 9:02And it turned hard this year. I feel like we talked about that
- 9:06on our last episode. Fairly enough, the reason I got
- 9:08for you video viewers a pillow behind my head.
- 9:10It's not cuz I need a pillow, it's cuz it's so cold today that
- 9:15the cold is seeping in through the window behind me.
- 9:18Yeah, and I, I shaved my head so it's there's no hair on the back
- 9:22of my neck to keep me warm and whoo.
- 9:24Anyway, so I usually that's how I start my Christmas wonders and
- 9:29tradition that I have for myself is while putting up the outside
- 9:35decorations and the lights on the House and all the things,
- 9:39the inflatable and whatever I'm doing is I listen to Christmas
- 9:42music because I love Christmas music.
- 9:47And so that and then the inside, that would be the next thing I
- 9:51decorate and again listen to Christmas music.
- 9:55Yep. And then what else?
- 9:59Baked cookies. I like baking a recipe from my
- 10:02grandma. She was an amazing woman.
- 10:05Yeah, but when you do that, are you listening to Christmas
- 10:08music? I just might.
- 10:10I don't know that I always do, but I wouldn't be opposed to it
- 10:13given that I love Christmas music.
- 10:16Yeah. Or do you watch A Christmas?
- 10:18Movie and we promised in one of the recent episodes that I was
- 10:22going to share my Christmas playlist.
- 10:25Yes. Which I just figured out how to
- 10:27do on YouTube Music, which I think means it's also available
- 10:31as a playlist on YouTube period. I don't know that for sure, but
- 10:36I think they like semi integrate.
- 10:39It's called. What did I say?
- 10:41I called it #1 because I took your hack with the year.
- 10:45It wasn't an hack. Your playlist is named first
- 10:48anyway, so I named it #1 Christmas Variety.
- 10:54I think that's what I called it because it is a very eclectic
- 10:59mix of Christmas music. And he'll share a link through
- 11:04our social medias. If I figure out how, you bet.
- 11:08It's pretty easy. I'm sure it is.
- 11:10I guess the answer is will, but I mean if I can do it, you can
- 11:13do it. I mean, there's that one song.
- 11:16But OK, so within within 7 minutes?
- 11:18Better what? Within 7 minutes.
- 11:21I had 1900 views. 1800 views on this, you know it's.
- 11:26Because it's the most wonderful time of the year.
- 11:29I think it's sort of. I would have never cared about
- 11:32how many people listen to a music list.
- 11:35It's kind of a fun thing, though.
- 11:36That's one of the things I love about music in general, is it's
- 11:39like almost unequivocally the thing that cross culturally
- 11:45brings people together. Yeah.
- 11:47For all occasions. Yeah.
- 11:50Yeah. Birth.
- 11:51Weddings. Birth.
- 11:54Yeah, you know what? It's music is everything, man.
- 11:56It's but I don't think of it's the big events, it's the small
- 11:59events. It's the work commute, it's the
- 12:01workout jam. It's the, I mean, it's that
- 12:04background music at a party. It's the front ground music at a
- 12:08music party. It's concerts.
- 12:11It's man, it's I love music. I listen to so much music.
- 12:17Yeah. What is your preparation for the
- 12:20holiday season for? Well, for my favorite holiday
- 12:24season, there's a lot of support.
- 12:28I'll give you credit for that. I ask people for lists and then
- 12:35I fulfill items on lists. And really close to Christmas, I
- 12:43bake some cookies and oh, the other thing is that I make that
- 12:50is a Christmas tradition for my family, especially my two
- 12:53sisters. My, my 2 full sisters is making
- 13:01my Aunt Kathy's peanut butter chocolate bars.
- 13:05Those are those they're so good. So I, I will have to do that
- 13:10this year for sure as well. It's not Christmas in my family
- 13:15without those. Well, thank you, Kathy.
- 13:20Yes, yes, Aunt Kathy. Those are the best.
- 13:23The best for sure. I don't think I can share the
- 13:27recipe. I think she's one of those that
- 13:28doesn't. And I'm not one of those people.
- 13:31I'm Here you go. Here's my.
- 13:32Recipe. I like things being secretive
- 13:36because it's kind of fun so long as it gets passed down or within
- 13:42the family. Like my SO, my grand aunt, which
- 13:46was my grandma growing up. There's a whole back story, but
- 13:51we'll leave that aside. She had her own famous within
- 13:57the family recipe for molasses cookies, which is one really
- 14:00good they'll. Have to be made.
- 14:01That we cook and literally the whole family cooks them like
- 14:04across the country. And there's, like, shipping back
- 14:08and forth between the East Coast and the Midwest.
- 14:11And there's like, who did it better this year?
- 14:13And it's, it's it's a lot of fun.
- 14:16Yeah. Those are some delicious
- 14:17cookies. They're very good, very good.
- 14:19Molasses cookies? You don't really see that.
- 14:22No. That's one of the my 2 grandma
- 14:24recipes I like a lot because they're super rare.
- 14:26Like you see a lot of the same types of cookies around this
- 14:30time of year. Yeah, but I also think some of
- 14:32it's also very regional too, right?
- 14:35I mean, we, you know, here where we live, Lefsa is a huge
- 14:39Christmas tradition. Lefsa, why?
- 14:42Why do you eat on Lefsa? But like Christmas, I don't get.
- 14:45It I don't know cuz it takes a lot of work.
- 14:48I mean, they're counting out potatoes and making these flat
- 14:51little. They're like.
- 14:52Potato crepes. They're super good.
- 14:55Crepes are better, but you know, they're very sorry if I offended
- 14:58all the Norwegians. Or Swedes or which we're we're
- 15:01number, our number one listeners are in Minnesota.
- 15:05So way to go. I don't dislike lefsa, I'm just
- 15:08saying if I'm given the choice between a lefsa.
- 15:11And a crepe? Nope, Minnesota, I got you.
- 15:13Having that tiny French pancake. Nope, Minnesota, I got you.
- 15:16It's Lefsa. Because I know all of the work
- 15:19that went into it. It's a lot more than you might
- 15:21think it is. And yeah, we made some.
- 15:24I don't know, I like it. That's a weird very regional
- 15:27thing I think, cuz I bet you other parts of the country it's
- 15:31not as to give a deal. No way.
- 15:33Yeah, Well, it's is it Swedish? We have a lot of Swedish and
- 15:37Norwegian I think. It's Norwegian.
- 15:40It's Norwegian. But anyhow, if you haven't had
- 15:43it because you don't live where it is but you happen to see it,
- 15:48you should try it. You know when it's really good
- 15:49with butter and brown sugar? Put it on there.
- 15:54A lot of things are good with butter and brown sugar.
- 15:57But you don't even need to melt the butter and brown sugar.
- 15:59It's just it's, I don't know, I don't it's.
- 16:01Raw butter. Yes.
- 16:04Yes. And people put other things on
- 16:06it. I don't know what, I don't know
- 16:07what other people. Put on it, I would imagine, much
- 16:09like you would do for a crepe. You probably could put berries
- 16:12you can. You know, yeah, yeah.
- 16:14Syrup. I don't know, Sir.
- 16:16No, no, sorry. I mean, I do.
- 16:18Because so many people haven't had this, we can stop discussing
- 16:21this item, but. I mean, it is Minnesota, so.
- 16:24It is Minnesota. Most of our listeners are here.
- 16:27But anyhow, so food, food's a big thing for you.
- 16:31Grandma stuff, it's about a lot of it is traditions.
- 16:34It's, you know, yeah, cuz it reminds me of them.
- 16:39Yes. And it brings me back to
- 16:41childhood, which I think is one of the things that very
- 16:45specifically about Christmas. Well, and I mean, most holidays
- 16:48probably have this, but for I think a lot of families that
- 16:51celebrate it, and obviously we do that Christmas is a thing
- 16:55that really, really brings you back and anchors you in
- 16:59childhood and like the family dynamic and the traditions that
- 17:03you liked growing up and the songs you like growing up and
- 17:06the foods you like to eat growing up.
- 17:08And then you're able to remake those as an adult and carry that
- 17:11tradition on. And I think it's pretty great.
- 17:14I think it does it better than most holidays.
- 17:17I'm going to put a hot take out there.
- 17:19Well, OK, it's. Hot take I think the most
- 17:24overrated Christmas food item is the candy cane.
- 17:33Most overrated. It's everywhere and I don't need
- 17:37it everywhere. It's like, I mean, it's like I.
- 17:42Don't know that I disagree. I mean, that's, you know,
- 17:45they're. They're fine.
- 17:47Fine, but you know you could get a much more manageable thing
- 17:50would be those little circle peppermints if you wanted a
- 17:54peppermint. Yeah.
- 17:56And that's the, I mean, obviously.
- 17:57My favorite though was the cherry flavored ones going.
- 17:59Up. You know what?
- 18:00That's what we have on our tree cherry.
- 18:02No, if you remembered me and I appreciate.
- 18:06It. You're welcome.
- 18:07No, I didn't know that yours was the cherry that was.
- 18:09Like a bunch of wild ones, yeah. Oh, we've had Dolly Rancher.
- 18:13OK, wait, Darber. Life hack number one from Luke
- 18:16specific to this time of year, I'm going to make some I'm going
- 18:18to make some, some waves out there.
- 18:21We're going to change the scene. OK, if well, this big caveat, if
- 18:27they still are selling the hot Tamale flavored candy canes,
- 18:32which is a cinnamon. I mean, everyone has had a hot
- 18:35Tamale. It's a cinnamon spicy thing.
- 18:37OK, you take that, make a cup of hot cocoa.
- 18:41It's got to be hot. Hot, like hot enough to melt,
- 18:44hot enough to melt the candy cane.
- 18:46And you put the candy cane and then let it melt in the hot
- 18:50cocoa. It is super good.
- 18:53It's got a little kick to it and it's got the cinnamon in it.
- 18:58Oh, and your face is wrong because what about you're about
- 19:01to say something that's wrong too.
- 19:02I'm. Just laughing because do you
- 19:04think like putting a candy cane into a hot coke?
- 19:06No, no brand new item. That candy cane, everyone's put
- 19:10a candy cane in a hot cocoa, the hot Tamale one, because it's not
- 19:14like, because like here, you could put, you could.
- 19:17Put hot chocolate. No, it's not There's.
- 19:20I've had Mexican hot chocolate, it's not the same.
- 19:23It's not the same. It's not and it's also not like
- 19:25putting cinnamon in your it's not it's, it's a special thing.
- 19:28It's the closest thing I've ever had as an adult to what they
- 19:31used to sell at Caribou Coffee. Also, shout out to a local
- 19:35Minnesota founded company which is now owned by, you know,
- 19:38larger interest, but it was started by a Minnesota couple,
- 19:41Caribou Coffee, and they made a drink called, what was it
- 19:50called? It was spicy cocoa.
- 19:52That's what it was called. And we used to make it all the
- 19:55time. And it was delicious when I
- 19:59worked there as a teenager. And I'm just glad that it
- 20:03existed and I was able to reproduce it.
- 20:06Well, there you go, there you go.
- 20:07So that's Luke's first first tip #1.
- 20:15Life. Hack #1. #1 for me.
- 20:18It makes sense that your first life hack would come at
- 20:20Christmas. Time delicious.
- 20:22Yeah, well, you know, there you go.
- 20:24There you go. Find them.
- 20:25I don't know if they sell them at the store or whatever.
- 20:27They might not. Luke might have bought them all
- 20:29already. I don't know where you found
- 20:31them. They'll try to find some this
- 20:33weekend. Well, that's the thing.
- 20:35There's just too many flavors. I I just got that's when I was
- 20:38buying candy canes. I got overwhelmed.
- 20:40I was. You did come back one year with
- 20:42all the varieties I do. We had like 150 candy canes, too
- 20:47many. I think I even said, do you
- 20:49think we're gonna eat all? Of these and I knew I knew we
- 20:52wouldn't but I was like I don't know what your favorites are.
- 20:55I know you know cuz you said get candy cherry for the tree.
- 20:58Cherry So in my brain is cherry cuz I think that's probably what
- 21:01my mom liked. That's what I mean.
- 21:02There were, when I was a kid, there were two kinds.
- 21:04It was cherry, or I didn't even know it was cherry, just fruit
- 21:08flavor. Right, more was it?
- 21:10Doesn't it really tastes like cherry?
- 21:11It doesn't at all, but that's what.
- 21:13They call it and it is more like a fruit punch or a It only kind
- 21:17of reminds me. Of it's tutti fruity, but it's
- 21:19not. No, there was a maybe that is
- 21:22it. Did that have like a zebra on
- 21:24it? It was the gum juice, no?
- 21:29Not Juicy Fruit. No, no, no, it doesn't matter.
- 21:31It had zero flavor after 2 seconds but.
- 21:34It had a zebra. Stripes yes yes cuz the.
- 21:38Stripes were a zebra. Yes, and that was probably where
- 21:41the. Flavor was still make that.
- 21:42Probably don't. Not no.
- 21:44It really was one of those gums. There was a lot of that bag in
- 21:46the day. You'd have a piece of gum and
- 21:47for like literally it was 5 seconds.
- 21:49To be like, this is amazing. And then you'd be like, why am I
- 21:52chewing rubber? But that's kind of brilliant
- 21:55when you think about it, because, you know, I mean.
- 21:57You're going to eat more. You're going to eat more.
- 21:59And I, I, I promise you I had more than one pack of fruit
- 22:03stripes, even though I knew it was low quality, wasn't going to
- 22:06taste good. But in the beginning it would
- 22:08taste. Oh, fire.
- 22:10Right. Like, I get it.
- 22:12I mean, I don't think they do anymore.
- 22:14It really was a terrible chewing gum.
- 22:16If you're into chewing gum, that's not, I don't think they
- 22:19make it anymore. No, it just it wouldn't last.
- 22:22But I don't know. I don't know.
- 22:26So. Wait, did you say what your
- 22:27traditions were? We got a little sidetracked.
- 22:30Now, well, we talked about traditions of why like on our
- 22:32last episode. That's OK, I like traditions
- 22:35anyway. That's fine, whatever.
- 22:36I did. Oh, Oh no, I did.
- 22:37I said my traditions are asking for lists and fulfilling and
- 22:40then making cookies, OK. And then going to whatever
- 22:44functions I need to go to. That's this year.
- 22:47I am going to a function and I did get an ugly sweater.
- 22:53I'm going to an ugly sweater. Party.
- 22:55That's the ugliest ugly sweater. No, I mean.
- 22:59Not an attractive sweater. It's not really for me.
- 23:01I actually because I won't wear it ever again except for for
- 23:05this party. I did say Luke, would you wear
- 23:09this for not ugly sweater? I said the heck yeah.
- 23:13So that's what we did. It's a Highland cow.
- 23:17We got to tell the people, yeah, it's a Highland cow.
- 23:20And it's got, and it's got like the lights in the shirt.
- 23:24Yeah, which is a newish thing, Yeah.
- 23:26And you hit a little button, there's like a battery pack.
- 23:28You hit a little button and it twinkles the.
- 23:30Yeah, Little Holly jolly lights on that sweater.
- 23:33I sort of anyhow, when I was realizing I was gonna need a
- 23:37sweater for the I don't think it was technically a ugly Christmas
- 23:40sweater. It just was called a Christmas
- 23:42sweater party. But I realized that there's I'm
- 23:45not ever, ever gonna wear it again.
- 23:48So. But you might.
- 23:49I for sure will wear. It yeah, yeah, on.
- 23:51Purpose. Because I think it's great.
- 23:53Yeah. So because it's Christmassy?
- 23:55Yeah, and I don't care if it's a little big.
- 23:57I have a low bar when it comes to Christmas you, I really do.
- 24:01You do. Today at work a lady and well, a
- 24:04family came in and out through the window of the store I saw in
- 24:11their car. So the husband and wife had come
- 24:13in and I think their son came in.
- 24:17He was in a different car, something like that.
- 24:19They were coming to buy a car. Anyway, they had left their dog
- 24:22in the car. Now don't, don't hold on, hold
- 24:24on. Everyone knows it's cold in
- 24:26Minnesota and no one's dumb enough to kill their dog.
- 24:28So that might not be true. Well, most people aren't.
- 24:31So they had the heat on, but I saw, but I saw the dog and the
- 24:35dog had on a Christmas sweater in the car.
- 24:38And I see like I'm seeing the dog.
- 24:41And I said right when they came in before they even there, we
- 24:44were like, hi. And they were like, hi, we're
- 24:45here to look at such and such a car.
- 24:47And I said, hold on, do you want to go get your dog and bring
- 24:51your dog in? Because we're a dog friendly
- 24:53place and I saw the Christmas sweater and I'm a big fan of
- 24:56Christmas. Bring that dog inside.
- 24:58And they did, and we got to pet the dog and.
- 24:59Take a picture. I did not take a picture, did
- 25:02you? Sell a car?
- 25:03Yeah, you should take a picture and, like, post it on your
- 25:06social media. Well, I mean, here's what I'm
- 25:08learning as a podcaster. That's different.
- 25:13Everything is available for the gram, right?
- 25:16Sure. And and if it had been at, yeah,
- 25:20we don't really do that a lot at my location, but you know.
- 25:25I'm gonna say thank you for bringing the dog in.
- 25:28Well, yeah, because it it was really, really.
- 25:30The dog was celebrating Christmas.
- 25:32I had to get my little dog friend in and say hello and then
- 25:36I felt bad that I didn't have dog treats.
- 25:38Oh, how did you have dog treats? I just don't know because I get
- 25:41you shouldn't you probably shouldn't have them there.
- 25:44It's not. I mean, like those doors are
- 25:45open so often and you know, little critters like to run in
- 25:48and oh, for sure. What?
- 25:49If you like, there's not a. Coons come in.
- 25:52Oh, that's not OK, But there is literally not a shop that you
- 25:56could find in the north where it gets cold that doesn't have mice
- 26:00in it. Not one shop that exists, not if
- 26:02it's been built yesterday. And.
- 26:04I bet you they like dog treats so I don't know.
- 26:07Well, they like what they like crayons they like they'll eat.
- 26:11It doesn't even make sense. Oh, yeah, Yep.
- 26:15All kinds of you see it and go what?
- 26:18What's happening? Why?
- 26:20Why'd they do that? Right?
- 26:21I can't be good for them. No anyway, no, actually, you
- 26:24know what? That's funny.
- 26:25I just said that. So as I was doing my lock up, I
- 26:29saw a little it was kind of cute actually, a little puffy little
- 26:33fat mouse in the in the shop. And I walked up like I'm walking
- 26:39around and got within 3 feet and it just was cool.
- 26:45OK. And so then I decided that the
- 26:46technicians BAE who I was near must be a mouse friendly
- 26:52technician. Oh gosh, you don't.
- 26:53Because this, this little mouse just looked up at me like, hey,
- 26:57yeah. And then just went back to its
- 26:59business. And I was like, I'm really
- 27:01surprised that that thing didn't take off running, but OK, you
- 27:05know? Maybe he was like, I saw that
- 27:07you must like animals earlier when you let that dog come out
- 27:12and, and, and he looked at you with his little, you know,
- 27:16Christmas mouse eyes and said it's Christmas.
- 27:19He did don't smash me and I didn't.
- 27:23I just was like, well, I'm not going to change the world by
- 27:25doing anything to this one little mouse.
- 27:27Yeah, well, you know what there's.
- 27:29More of them for sure. Now you need to get him a little
- 27:31Christmas scarf or something, you know?
- 27:33I gotta touch it. No, OK, Well, it doesn't sound
- 27:37very. They're not known to be clean
- 27:40animals. Yeah, probably not.
- 27:42I know they started to plague, didn't they?
- 27:44It was that. Rat, not cute little puffy mice.
- 27:46Not puffy mice, OK. Yeah.
- 27:48All right, all right. Well, I mean, I think I'm OK.
- 27:52I'm I'm not a mouse person, but I'm OK that the mouse had a warm
- 27:55spot tonight, because it is. Super, Yeah.
- 27:58Nothing's gonna survive outside. I have lots of things survive
- 28:02outside, otherwise we wouldn't have animals and things like
- 28:05that in the summer. Well, not like outside outside.
- 28:10Yeah, I don't. Know they build little Burrows
- 28:12like bears go into caves and wolves build dens and even them
- 28:17big furry things need somewhere to go because it is too cold man
- 28:21it. Is too cold.
- 28:22We hold the record. Minnesota.
- 28:23It's cold. Just sand, baby.
- 28:27It is cold outside it. Really.
- 28:29Is it really? Is you got me?
- 28:31I'm going to start singing if you don't.
- 28:34OK, so you're talking about singing?
- 28:38A lot, actually, because it's great.
- 28:40Yes. So here we are.
- 28:43I have a question for you, Luke. And I am ready, ladies and
- 28:48gentlemen, the moment you've all been waiting for.
- 28:51Yeah, in this corner, wearing her very green.
- 28:54It's Christmasy, yet Saint Patrick's the Irish sweatshirt.
- 29:01We have Amber claiming to weigh in at 125 lbs Nope, Nope. 135
- 29:07lbs, whatever it is. And Grinchy though she might be,
- 29:13she does support. She does support.
- 29:16And the support counts the Christmas joy that I radiate for
- 29:20a month in this house. And she might need a little bit
- 29:24of that joy today to take me down in this contest.
- 29:28All right, and in this corner we have my very, very special
- 29:32Christmas elf. Yes, indeed.
- 29:35Weighing in about 185 cuz the cookies haven't started yet.
- 29:39I'm sure that number will go higher.
- 29:41It will. Current, currently we are at
- 29:47he's, he's got seven wins and eight losses.
- 29:52We have several ties. We'll see.
- 29:54We'll. See several open votes.
- 29:56Yeah, we have several open votes and there's good reasons for
- 29:59that. We want to ensure we give a
- 30:00little bit more time but but it being Christmas, Luke.
- 30:05Yes. Time close to Christmas, I am
- 30:10going to give you a special gift.
- 30:13A special gift. I am ready for that.
- 30:15Yes, of not just one, but two questions.
- 30:22It's a double header. Is it double?
- 30:25OK. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:27And because I was thinking, gosh, you like Christmas music?
- 30:32I do. I'm gonna I'm gonna have you
- 30:35create a naughty and nice Christmas list.
- 30:43OK. Ish.
- 30:44You get to pick. Ish you get.
- 30:46To pick for nice, your favorite Christmas song, and for naughty,
- 30:54the one you dislike the most. And.
- 30:57And just for you listeners, that means there's not going to be 1
- 31:01poll. There's two polls. 22 pole, 2 N
- 31:06poles. That doesn't make sense.
- 31:09There's. Only One North and and AS
- 31:11there's a north. And a South Pole couldn't even
- 31:12just let. It happen because it's not
- 31:14logically correct. So Luke, what would your nice
- 31:19song be and what would your naughty song be?
- 31:22Just backtracking for a second, I could answer the question, but
- 31:25technically there isn't a North Pole magnetically you can't get
- 31:30to it. Did you know that?
- 31:32No, I mean, I think I've heard something about it, but I don't.
- 31:35Yeah, no, no. OK, so.
- 31:37The magnets. Good.
- 31:38There you go. That's the question.
- 31:39OK, so the the naughty and the nice.
- 31:44Naughty and nice. Well, cuz I'd like to end on a
- 31:48high note and I would encourage you to do the same.
- 31:52I'm gonna go with are we gonna wait?
- 31:54Are we gonna you, you do you OK, Let's should we do?
- 31:58Should we battle naughty 1st and then nice second?
- 32:00Or should I do both of mine and then you do both of yours?
- 32:02Oh. That's a good question.
- 32:04It's kind of fun. I don't know how.
- 32:06We'll see. We'll see.
- 32:07What I wanna know? Go start.
- 32:10OK, I'm going naughty 1st and maybe we'll see what happens.
- 32:12OK, so, OK, OK, so the song or songs, but I'm going to pick one
- 32:18because there's a, there's a few songs and I ain't going to try
- 32:20to steal your Thunder. There's some songs that I am not
- 32:26a fan of at Christmas. Yeah.
- 32:30Or really well, ever because these are Christmas carols or
- 32:33songs. There's a handful.
- 32:36I'm going to name off at least three.
- 32:39Yeah. Because of its popularity, both
- 32:44positive and negative. I don't like that one Mariah
- 32:48Carey song cuz everyone talks about it and there's like memes
- 32:51about her coming out of hibernation and it's like y'all
- 32:56it's a popular song can we not talk about it all the time?
- 33:00OK there are so many better and worse Christmas songs than that
- 33:03one but that's on my list just cuz it's annoying that it
- 33:06happens every year. And I don't dislike the song
- 33:10itself even, I just dislike that it is so talked about.
- 33:14So that's on my list for that reason specifically.
- 33:17It upsets people. It's just why do you like
- 33:20everyone gets all wrapped up and it's like the song is actually
- 33:22fine. That's.
- 33:23A fine song. Anyway, yeah, so so that's on my
- 33:26list of the naughty cuz I'm annoyed by people's opinions of
- 33:32it and then I don't like Santa baby because although it's cute,
- 33:42I. Like that?
- 33:43One, it's the most materialistic song maybe ever written.
- 33:48She's asking for, I mean, fur coats, diamond rings, buildings,
- 33:55a yacht. That's not a lot.
- 33:57A54 convertible 2 light blue. It's it's crazy anyway, so
- 34:05that's one of them too, just because of the level of
- 34:08materialism in the song. And then, man, I could probably
- 34:15go ahead. It's like a good timing song,
- 34:18like music, you know the like, what is that like the 50s
- 34:21forties like it's got that whole vibe in it from exactly.
- 34:25It's super. I like.
- 34:26I know it's old, it's Eartha Kitt tonight, so it's got to be.
- 34:29It's probably 60s or something. Yeah.
- 34:31It's, I don't know, it's yeah. OK, OK.
- 34:34And I like her anyway. Yeah.
- 34:37And then we both dislike a song or two together.
- 34:41So I won't name any of the ones that I'm not sure of that you
- 34:44might say you dislike. And I guess my number one that I
- 34:52dislike the most is I don't even know the lyrics because I can't
- 34:59listen to the song is the Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas song
- 35:06because Oh my goodness, I don't know what sort of technology
- 35:10they used back then. I don't know if it was small
- 35:14children's voices. I sure hope not because it
- 35:16didn't sound like it. But whatever they did to make
- 35:20that song, it is so ear piercingly annoying.
- 35:27I like, I like tense up when it comes on and I if it's in the
- 35:33radio, I change the station at work.
- 35:35If it comes up on one of my work things, I go in the back where
- 35:39our satellite radio receiver is and I change the station.
- 35:42If it's in a place where I don't have control of the music, I'm
- 35:46leaving, I'm out. Did you watch the Chipmunks as a
- 35:49kid? I for sure saw it at least one
- 35:52time. OK, but I didn't, like watch it.
- 35:55All right, all right. And I thought you were asking
- 35:57about that movie. Actually, there was like a
- 35:58Christmas. Special.
- 35:59Yes, there was. I don't know if it was like a TV
- 36:02short episode or if it was like an actual movie.
- 36:05No, it was like a Christmas. Man.
- 36:08Yeah. It's, I remember it, sort of.
- 36:12I actually like the chipmunks when I was a kid.
- 36:14But man, the song, it's sad, Alvin, Simon, Theodore, and then
- 36:19they're singing and it's all high pitched and scratchy on
- 36:22nails on a chalkboard. I'm thinking about it and it
- 36:26makes me cringe a little bit. So I think we go back and forth
- 36:32head to head on that. Let's do Naughty 1st and nice
- 36:34second and that's your turn. So I mean, I'm gonna just tell
- 36:40you I actually, but I like the chipmunks.
- 36:44That's my problem. I don't know.
- 36:45You don't gotta like the Chipmunks and or hate the
- 36:48Chipmunks to hate the song. I told you I liked Eartha Kitt.
- 36:51I actually like that song too. Well, I like that song too.
- 36:54Sure. A lot of people like Mariah
- 36:56Carey and don't like that song. It's whatever.
- 37:00I think though for me there are a few that I think are.
- 37:03Also there's a lot of Christmas songs I don't like.
- 37:06Separate the art from the artist.
- 37:08It's. Very true.
- 37:09There's there's just a ton of Christmas songs I don't like.
- 37:13And while I don't necessarily like, the reason I think for me
- 37:17that Mariah Carey song is just annoying is because it's just
- 37:20all the time. But I think in general,
- 37:22actually, I agree. I think it's actually a good
- 37:24song, but I won't ever listen to it because I can't.
- 37:27It's just annoying it, But like, also good for her.
- 37:32Like she broke into a world that nobody, you know, like no one
- 37:37had really hit that hard since Bing Crosby.
- 37:39Like who? Owned.
- 37:40I was going to say, a lot of people broke into that.
- 37:42Owned it though. Right.
- 37:44It came on. We went and changed it because
- 37:47everyone at work was like, I can't do this song is terrible.
- 37:49I'm like, Oh my God, guys, just go change the station, right?
- 37:52Someone looked up. Do you know how much she makes
- 37:54every year on that song? This.
- 37:56I did some research by accident today.
- 37:58What do you think of that? I bet you she earns.
- 38:00Like estimate. 150 million every year?
- 38:03No, it's got more than that. God no, every no okay, well,
- 38:08that's. Yeah, I'm giving her.
- 38:10Way too high. Okay, all right.
- 38:13Well, it's estimated between 3:00 and $5,000,000 a year.
- 38:17That actually doesn't sound like that much to me for as often as
- 38:19that song is played and like that the amount of.
- 38:23That is so much money every year on one song.
- 38:26That's not the only song she has.
- 38:28No, it isn't. It is she.
- 38:29Had a whole album, yeah, and it's popular still, and it's
- 38:32like 30 years old, and she was like the most famous.
- 38:37I don't feel bad at all. But that's a lot of money
- 38:39regardless. Well, anyhow, so that's that's
- 38:41all. So that's not my song, even
- 38:44though like, it used to really bother me because shopping
- 38:48centers loved playing it a lot. We hear that in the malls when
- 38:52we were kids. Yeah, yeah.
- 38:54So when I think of bad Christmas songs, I have to think of things
- 39:00that are just annoying and why they're annoying.
- 39:06When I was a kid, I don't know if it was released when I was a
- 39:08kid or if it was before when I was a kid, but I remember a song
- 39:12that was released. Grandma got ran over by a
- 39:15reindeer. Yeah, that's not a great song.
- 39:17It's. Terrible.
- 39:18It's not even funny. It's.
- 39:21Who wants Grandma to get run over?
- 39:23It does. Plus that cute little reindeer.
- 39:25Come on. Yeah, I mean, it's it's not
- 39:28funny. It's it's just, it's not saying
- 39:30well, like there's nothing to me for that song that is uplifting.
- 39:34Now. I like a good joke.
- 39:37It's not a funny joke. So that was kind of in like some
- 39:41of my top dislikes. Another one, and it's newer and
- 39:45this is probably why it's not my #1 Is that Dominic Donkey song?
- 39:52I don't think that's that new actually.
- 39:53I don't, it's new for my ears. Cuz I heard OK, so the it's from
- 39:59it's from an old Italian song that's like famous enough that
- 40:04it was in that movie we just watched.
- 40:06I don't know what we just. Nona's.
- 40:08That was a good movie it. Was a cute movie with the
- 40:10grandmas and they were cooking which is based on a true story
- 40:12which is even cuter. I heard that song playing when
- 40:16they were doing like one of the dances or something in that of
- 40:19the like, whatever it was originally.
- 40:21And I was like, oh, that's that background from Dominic the
- 40:25donkey, and it was the same voice.
- 40:27Well. I don't understand.
- 40:29I agree that song is terrible. I don't understand why it's a
- 40:32song like that's the thing. I don't, I don't fully, I mean.
- 40:36Probably because the original 1 was famous and good.
- 40:40Why anyone decided to make those lyrics or anything like that?
- 40:43It's annoying, I don't like it, but the number one song I truly
- 40:50cannot stand at all and it feels like it was a big craze for
- 40:57like, I don't know, was it 10 years ago?
- 41:00Probably older than that, but OK.
- 41:02Is the hippopotamus for Christmas?
- 41:06It's awful. There's like no redeeming
- 41:10qualities to that song for me. I mean Shirley Temple.
- 41:15I don't know, sings the song. I might be wrong.
- 41:18I don't know, but like the the song like you're saying the
- 41:23chipmunks have that great the great is in the hippopotamus for
- 41:29Christmas song for me. Like if I were to have to listen
- 41:33to one of the two, oh God, that would kill me.
- 41:36Now that is fun. I think I would choose the
- 41:40chipmunks because at least the chipmunks like I don't, I don't
- 41:44hate the chipmunks. I don't know who sang this song.
- 41:48I think it was Shirley Temple. I don't know, it's so like now.
- 41:51I'm picking up in my head and I'm mad.
- 41:53That awful, right? Hippopotamus for Christmas, only
- 41:55a hippopotamus will do. Yeah, it's, it's a terrible.
- 41:59It's something hippopotamus is. It's yeah, the song's not great,
- 42:03I agree. It's like the Baby Shark of
- 42:06Christmas song. So.
- 42:09I don't know about that because I don't know about that other
- 42:11one, but I don't it is well, OK. So anyhow, folks, that is my
- 42:17naughty. My number one naughty is the
- 42:20hippopotamus for Christmas. So, OK, well that's so that's
- 42:25poll number one. North Pole #1 is.
- 42:31Hippopotamus. Hippopotamus for Christmas
- 42:33versus the Chipmunks. I don't even know what song they
- 42:37sing. The Christmas song.
- 42:39Everyone knows it. Christmas time.
- 42:41OK, whatever it's called, it don't matter.
- 42:43I don't know what the hippopotamus song is called
- 42:45either, I think. Anyway, that's Round 1 poll #1
- 42:48OK. Yes, and again.
- 42:49You want to start us out? Generous poll #2.
- 42:51No, I want you to. Start.
- 42:52I don't want to start. Not.
- 42:54At all but I got but listen, I like too much Christmas music to
- 42:59have to start. No, it's not fair.
- 43:03You have to start. My God.
- 43:04OK, I guess we did go back and forth, back and forth.
- 43:07OK, OK, so nice list for Christmas songs.
- 43:13I actually like it's it's a substantial list.
- 43:17First of all, as referenced earlier in the episode, if you
- 43:20wanna hear the songs that are on my Christmas playlist, it is now
- 43:24public and live on YouTube Music and it's called #1 Christmas
- 43:31Variety. And Luke's not ever gonna get
- 43:34paid for this. Never.
- 43:35It's really just for bragging, right?
- 43:36It's sharing. It's just I'm sharing the things
- 43:39I like Yeah, it's seriously the variety is strong.
- 43:42So part of that is because I work far away from.
- 43:47I have a long commute, so in my long commute I add into and take
- 43:54away from my music playlists frequently because I like and
- 44:00need variety. Like I can't have like you have
- 44:03a playlist but it's only got like 100 or 200 songs or
- 44:05something. No, you're 500 songs.
- 44:08No, there's at probably 800 songs which I feel like is
- 44:11plenty. That is, that's plenty.
- 44:13It's for me. It wouldn't be enough for my
- 44:16normal. D CDs.
- 44:18OK if you drove 10 hours a week you would need more.
- 44:24I'm just saying cuz I know this cuz I drive a lot.
- 44:26So now that is why my Christmas playlist has such a variety.
- 44:32It has some very old songs, it has some very new songs.
- 44:38It has songs from. I don't know that I want to say
- 44:42every genre of music, but it's pretty close.
- 44:45Like there I don't think I have a I almost put a like AEDM or
- 44:51techno dance but I didn't I was like it doesn't quite do it, but
- 44:57I have I thought. They could do the heck out of a
- 44:59Christmas song. They do.
- 45:00I've listened to. There's playlists out there, so
- 45:03I've listened to that. With all the bells in it.
- 45:06Yeah, yeah. Yep, yeah, Yep.
- 45:08The one that almost made it in was Carol of the Bells.
- 45:13So because it, you know, you put a baseline behind that anyway.
- 45:18Yeah. So.
- 45:19Yeah, so it's that's a good sound.
- 45:22OK, OK. So the songs also include the
- 45:27like R and BI. Don't think I have a rap one,
- 45:32but there's a couple that are sort of funny.
- 45:35There's country, there's rock, there's rock like.
- 45:39Christmas. Yeah, there's.
- 45:43Like 80s hair band. No, I don't have like a hair
- 45:47metal one, but that would be interesting.
- 45:49There's like singer-songwriter stuff in there, There's crooner
- 45:54stuff in there, there's opera stuff in there, there's Symphony
- 45:59stuff in there. There's a local guy like a
- 46:02Minnesotan who wrote a Christmas couple of Christmas songs, maybe
- 46:06a Christmas album that I was turned on to his music a handful
- 46:09of years ago. There's so much like it's.
- 46:14Kiss Christmas album. Don't wanna know, never was a
- 46:18fan. So anyway, So what?
- 46:22I don't know. It's not my we didn't grow up in
- 46:25that era. Whatever.
- 46:26OK, so anyway, so the Christmas playlist is long and it's got
- 46:31100 and something songs and that's great.
- 46:34I love it. I could not decide.
- 46:38It was so hard to pick a favorite.
- 46:40So I literally wrote down a number of favorites that I have
- 46:46and I'm gonna just read them off because and then I'll pick one.
- 46:51Yeah, you have two. So staples that I have.
- 46:56There's the Christmas carols, which I didn't even write down
- 46:59cuz those are in there like, I don't know Holy night and like I
- 47:05don't even, I don't know Christmas carols.
- 47:07Like if you go Christmas caroling, these are the songs
- 47:09you hear. Those are in there too.
- 47:12Silent Night, that's a, that's a standby, but the like top three
- 47:18I had from the crooner days. These are big favorites of mine.
- 47:22Mistletoe and Holly, that's Frank Sinatra.
- 47:26White Christmas, Bing Crosby and Marshmallow World.
- 47:31Dean Martin. Those 3 songs are absolutely
- 47:35fantastically wonderful. I know every single word.
- 47:38I sing them out loud when it's happening.
- 47:42So those are in like, my favorites.
- 47:45And then there's some newer ones, two of which are, I think
- 47:50probably in the last five years, once called at this table by
- 47:54Idina Menzel, who voiced Elsa in Disney's Frozen.
- 47:59She's got a great voice. Also in Disney's Frozen too.
- 48:03And three. Wait, is there a three?
- 48:05I don't know. There was a Christmas special.
- 48:07I feel like there was a three. Anyway, that song is great.
- 48:13The themes of all these are wonderful, like mistletoe and
- 48:16Holly is about traditions. White Christmas is from the
- 48:18movie White Christmas, which has some, you know, some good and
- 48:23some bad in it. It's, you know, World War 2
- 48:25stuff. And yeah, but the song itself is
- 48:30great and it's, you know, it's about the white Christmas.
- 48:32And then Marshmallow World is kind of a fun song, talks about
- 48:35like marshmallow clouds being friendly and snow comes to I.
- 48:40Really dislike that song. That's a bad one.
- 48:43What? Yeah, I don't like.
- 48:44It I like that song a lot at this table.
- 48:47One of the reasons I like that song and the next song, which is
- 48:52probably the nearest and dearest to my heart.
- 48:55But at this table is a song about like, it's about the
- 49:00Christmas table, but like everyone is welcome to the
- 49:05table. And some of the lyrics are
- 49:07really touching. It says like there's there's
- 49:13always one more seat at the table and it's just very like
- 49:18it's warm and it's very inviting.
- 49:20And I like that spirit of Christmas.
- 49:23We invited someone to our Thanksgiving table that was in
- 49:27need of a little company. Or are you inviting anyone to a
- 49:30Christmas table? If if I can, I probably will
- 49:35anyway. And then the next song that I
- 49:37have on my and I'm just recommending these that people
- 49:39just go listen to them because you'll have a great time.
- 49:42This one is is for sure the one that it like it brings me back
- 49:49to childhood and home so well that it's like shocking.
- 49:55It's called that's Christmas to me.
- 49:58I don't know who originally wrote the song, but the one that
- 50:01I like is Pentatonix, who's a great a cappella band or group
- 50:06cuz there's a band. They have instruments anyway, a
- 50:08cappella, and they're super famous so people know who they
- 50:11are. And that song, the harmonies are
- 50:14amazing and the lyrics are, again, very warm and fuzzy and
- 50:20it makes me feel real good. And I get a little choked up
- 50:22when I listen to it almost every single time, even though I
- 50:25listen to it like, I don't know, 50 times each Christmas or
- 50:29something. So is that your pick?
- 50:30Nope, that's just the one that like, really hits me, you know?
- 50:34OK, yeah, in the soul area. OK, I'm pointing my pick I
- 50:41think, and part of this is because of it's who the song is
- 50:47from and the fun the fun of the song.
- 50:51I know what you're doing. It's not a tactic at all.
- 50:55It is. Have yourself a merry little
- 50:57Christmas, Judy Garland. Yes, now her voice is amazing.
- 51:03That's not to be questioned. And that song.
- 51:08I recently learned this actually this year I again accidentally
- 51:11did some research because I love Christmas so much and I love
- 51:15Christmas music so much that I found out as I was listening to
- 51:19her sing this. She's been on my playlist for
- 51:21years FYI and I never skip it because she's an Angel.
- 51:28I found out it came from an album that had, I think there's
- 51:31like 5 or 6 songs called Meet Me in Saint Louis.
- 51:34And like the first song is about like a guy named Louis and she's
- 51:38taken off and if he wants to meet her in Saint Louis, he can.
- 51:42And it's kind of got like a like a she's, you know, doing what
- 51:48she wants. And, and I think that's like
- 51:50really cool, like kind of trailblazery because it's from
- 51:53like 1934 or five and I don't know, it's very old.
- 51:58Like it's, that'd be a good 90 years old anyway.
- 52:02And that song, again, with the lyrics always mean a lot.
- 52:06You know, it's one of the reasons I picked so many is the
- 52:09the song itself matters. It's not just the tune.
- 52:13And that one is really good. Let your heart be light.
- 52:16I mean, it's, you know, from now on, all our troubles will be far
- 52:19away. It's a very, like, it's a very
- 52:22positive song. And even though Christmas
- 52:28happens at a dark time of year, like geographically speaking,
- 52:34and for a lot of people, it's it's tough.
- 52:36And there's times that it's tough for me because, you know,
- 52:40one of the things I love about it is also one of the things
- 52:42that makes it difficult is I love that it makes me think of
- 52:45being a kid and makes me think about family.
- 52:47But it also, you know, as I'm now no longer a kid and I'm
- 52:51older, it makes me think about the people that aren't with us
- 52:54anymore. Like it makes me think a lot
- 52:55about my grandma's. It's why they're cooking their
- 52:57cookies and this. Song makes you think about these
- 52:59people. The lyrics do, and it talks
- 53:04about, you know, your troubles being miles away.
- 53:09So I love the song. It's a very old, very wonderful
- 53:13song sung by a very wonderful singer.
- 53:16And that matters. I have other great singers on my
- 53:19list, too. You want to know more?
- 53:20Feel free to ask me after this show.
- 53:23There you go. There you go.
- 53:25That's very interesting. OK, OK.
- 53:28So what I find interesting is that, I mean, we did actually
- 53:33have to discuss this beforehand. And a couple of the songs that
- 53:36you mentioned not on this list that you mentioned while
- 53:41discussing are a couple of the songs that are on my list of the
- 53:46top few nice songs, you know, for my nice list.
- 53:50And I don't know if that was because you'd already had them
- 53:53in your mind or what, but. I I like all the songs, it's not
- 53:58very cool. But so when I was thinking about
- 54:03my, I guess, songs that I think are good Christmas songs, the
- 54:10first one I think of is kind of like, what's a fun Christmas
- 54:14song that when I hear I'm not like, oh God, stop it.
- 54:20And that's rocking around the Christmas tree.
- 54:22That's a banger. It's a bop.
- 54:25I love it. Brenda Lee.
- 54:27I don't know who sings it of. Course you don't, right?
- 54:29I know the artists that for all of the songs cuz I love
- 54:33Christmas. Right, right.
- 54:34I mean, it's a fun one. I mean like it's.
- 54:35I bet you don't know all the lyrics.
- 54:37No, I don't, and I'm sure I actually probably could sing
- 54:40along like, I bet you know, a. Lot of them.
- 54:42OK. I don't even.
- 54:43It's not a competition. It's not, no.
- 54:46I meant that as a as a compliment.
- 54:48Technically, our IT is a competition.
- 54:51But it's not a competition. So anyhow, but I like that one
- 54:53cuz it's fun and uplifting. It is, but like you were talking
- 54:58about going back to your childhood and when I was growing
- 55:01up, like Christmas songs were mostly where I was hearing
- 55:09Christmas songs the most was through the church growing up.
- 55:12And so like, what brings me back is something there and one of
- 55:17the songs that, and I don't necessarily even care about the
- 55:20lyrics, but that is really it rings in my head.
- 55:27Oh my goodness. Is Carol of the Bells right like
- 55:31the beat on that and how it goes?
- 55:34And for me a lot of it really is about the music.
- 55:37What does it sound like? What is it making me feel and
- 55:40like that ones like I don't. I mean, I'm sure you know I must
- 55:44have seen this somewhere, but I think of like little winter
- 55:48sprites, like lighting up Christmas all around.
- 55:51Like I, I must have seen this. Sprites.
- 55:53Interesting. Yeah.
- 55:54Like dancing through the thing and I, you know what my moms
- 55:56travel like. Yeah, it was on or something.
- 55:58Christmas, VHS, you know, this is what you're remembering, but
- 56:03like just dancing and like making everything Christmas.
- 56:06And it works really well with that.
- 56:08So a lot of times for music for me, it's what it makes me feel,
- 56:11what it makes me see, what it makes me think, you know, So I
- 56:14really like that one. I don't remember there being
- 56:16lyrics with it like at at that point.
- 56:19And we did look it up beforehand because you're like, well, with
- 56:22the lyrics and I'm like, no, actually I don't.
- 56:26I don't like it as much with the lyrics.
- 56:28I like it fully instrumental, but it's just it's good.
- 56:33I mean, and it just makes you kind of get like in a happy,
- 56:35like a like a it's just high level, but also beautiful,
- 56:41right, Like it sounds beautiful. So it kind of has that right.
- 56:46That would be if I was allowed a second nice song, which I'm not.
- 56:51No, this we are not that giving. Whoa.
- 56:54We are only allowing one nice and one not per person.
- 56:58But you can talk about more I. Know and that's that's what I
- 57:00did 'cause I love all those songs anyhow, so I like that one
- 57:04when you were like Cara la belle, it's it's actually one I
- 57:07like and I don't necessarily Oh, there was a third one in there
- 57:10that we talked about and you were like doesn't really count
- 57:14Greensleeves because you're like, no, the Greensleeves is
- 57:18not Christmas and I'm like to. Me.
- 57:21To me it is because. They got that one song though.
- 57:23What? Child is this, that's it, the
- 57:25background. Like when I was a kid learning
- 57:28to play piano, Greensleeves was like one of the first things I
- 57:34learned, which of course, at that point in my life was really
- 57:37more what child is this? But so like, it's a it's just,
- 57:40it's one of those things that I remember playing also as a
- 57:44child, I or youth, I don't know, I played the bells and I'm sure
- 57:49that was one we did on the bells as well.
- 57:51Yeah. No, that would have been Carol
- 57:54of the Bells, which I did. I there's no way.
- 57:56I don't know. It doesn't matter.
- 57:57It doesn't matter. My mom will actually tell me
- 58:00because she was our Belle Choir director.
- 58:03Are you telling me right now if we got a set of bells?
- 58:05You and your sisters, Good Carol of the Bells.
- 58:08I have no. I mean, maybe, I have no idea.
- 58:12But with your mom, I mean telling.
- 58:13Me. No, no.
- 58:13My mom, My mom would need to tell me.
- 58:15Yeah, yeah. I don't think we should try to
- 58:17do this. Let's get like a set of
- 58:19Christmas bells and you. Need more people to do bells?
- 58:22Many do we need? I don't, I don't know, we could
- 58:24ask my mom another time, but. That would be an epic Christmas
- 58:29video, yeah. It might be maybe, I don't know.
- 58:31So anyhow, so those so I was going there and I feel like I
- 58:35just talked about another one. Wait, if we got your mom, you
- 58:38and your sisters and the three the girls and get, I mean we get
- 58:43everyone. I actually probably could do
- 58:46that. That would be super great.
- 58:49I would support you in all of this.
- 58:51No, it's I mean like it's anyhow, Anyhow.
- 58:53I'm going to buy the bells today.
- 58:54No, you're not. They're really expensive.
- 58:59You're like, oh, just to any bell.
- 59:00Do you know you need to actually the bells are noted and all of
- 59:03these. Things.
- 59:04That's fine. Yeah, anyhow, so, so those are
- 59:08are some songs that I liked for those reasons, the way they
- 59:11sounded and like what again, a musical memory, it invokes me.
- 59:15But my number one nice song you've already mentioned, I
- 59:21think you were saying some negative things about it, but is
- 59:26O Holy night. I wouldn't say negative things
- 59:29about O Holy Night. For me, again, the song has to
- 59:34have like kind of a deeper musical meaning or level to it.
- 59:39And if you just listened to the song and you got rid of the
- 59:43lyrics, it's very dramatic. Now you add the lyrics in it and
- 59:48it's great. Not in like a great, like that's
- 59:53so good, but like great and being great.
- 59:56If you think about the original story that the song is about and
- 1:00:02that time of year or or when that when the story was
- 1:00:06happening, right? Like it being about, you know,
- 1:00:09like there's this really big time in the world where there's
- 1:00:13this really big dude named Gad who's like, I am going to change
- 1:00:20the world. I have this thing and I'm going
- 1:00:24to make the world an entirely different place, the whole
- 1:00:29world. I'm changing it, yeah.
- 1:00:32And it's happening technically in the morning, but it's
- 1:00:35happening tonight. Now, I think about like, the
- 1:00:39overall story and like, you know, if there's a woman who's
- 1:00:41like going through and she's real pregnant, she's not even a
- 1:00:45woman. She's a young, young lady, you
- 1:00:47know, trying to find a place to be because like, literally
- 1:00:52there's some bonkers king who's like, I'm killing all the first
- 1:00:55male babies out there. So she's like, I think it might
- 1:00:59be a boy. I've been told it's a boy by
- 1:01:02some angels, you know, And I've been told this is a really big
- 1:01:05deal boy, you know, and her and her, her guy are out looking for
- 1:01:09a place for them to hide because she thinks and believes that she
- 1:01:16is bringing forth the savior of the world.
- 1:01:19Yeah. Also, childbirth is real
- 1:01:23freaking dangerous anyhow. So like they're on this
- 1:01:26dangerous mission to possibly change the world.
- 1:01:31And so having that story be in the background while listening
- 1:01:35to the lyrics and hearing the music and like, this is
- 1:01:40monumental, you know, like it's, it's not.
- 1:01:44I mean, so for me, I think that's one of the reasons why it
- 1:01:47just really it feels that way of what the story is about.
- 1:01:51Like just like dude, great things are about to happen for
- 1:01:55people. A lot of people's lives are
- 1:01:57going to change forever. And having that with the music
- 1:02:02and the lyrics, all of that together, the story is told so
- 1:02:07well, whether or not anyone, you know, whether or not someone
- 1:02:10believes in the story or not, it's just like, dude, here's the
- 1:02:12story and here we have this song hidden for you.
- 1:02:15So that is why that song and again, memory, I mean, I
- 1:02:21remember hearing it and I'm like, wait, but it's supposed to
- 1:02:23be such a great night because I got Christmas tomorrow morning
- 1:02:26and there's going to be presents under the tree and they're like,
- 1:02:28whoa, wait, this is right. Like in the different type of
- 1:02:33great than what I usually think of great.
- 1:02:36This is momentous. It's just very obvious we grew
- 1:02:38up in different household because those songs weren't as
- 1:02:45prominent. Yeah, it wasn't.
- 1:02:47I mean it. We did go caroling around the
- 1:02:49neighborhood and sing Christmas carols like from church because
- 1:02:52that's where most of them come from.
- 1:02:53No, it wasn't a powerful song is what I will say.
- 1:02:57I mean in like having it now, do you?
- 1:02:58Have a favorite singer of the song?
- 1:03:01Cuz it doesn't matter who sings it.
- 1:03:03I mean, it does it. Does matter?
- 1:03:04If you hear me playing it. 3 octaves or something?
- 1:03:07I mean, I, our kid just asked me.
- 1:03:09She's like, she's like, what are you choosing for the song?
- 1:03:12And I told her and she's like, just could you sing it for me?
- 1:03:14And I was like, no, I mean I. Nobody can sing that song unless
- 1:03:17they're like, amazing. I mean, I, I've heard great men
- 1:03:22and great women sing it. I mean like it.
- 1:03:24That's a, it's an incredible. I just that's the feeling and
- 1:03:28the understanding of how important for the story like
- 1:03:34that song is like dude, don't like it's not just about like
- 1:03:38this is this is world changing and having those tones that
- 1:03:42bring you through that like this is y'all get ready, it's time.
- 1:03:49I understand. So that is why.
- 1:03:53And I don't even think the title is like Valent enough for what
- 1:03:57it is. But that is why it's my number
- 1:04:01one nice song. OK, it almost sounded like you
- 1:04:04were making an argument for the story of Jesus Christ and not
- 1:04:08for the song itself. Wow, no, it really isn't.
- 1:04:12I said That the music. It is amazing.
- 1:04:14And the lyrics were matching the momentum just to of the
- 1:04:19occasion. Just to toss this out there, I
- 1:04:21think Céline Dion is my favorite version of that song that I've
- 1:04:24heard. So she sings it very amazingly
- 1:04:27well. What's really interesting is my
- 1:04:29memory has it as a male singer, cuz it makes sense cuz that's
- 1:04:33who sang it at the church that I went to growing up.
- 1:04:35And it was just like he had, I mean, he had a deep voice and it
- 1:04:39was, it felt like shaky. I don't know.
- 1:04:42I don't know how to explain it. But yeah, that's why there's
- 1:04:46true storytelling and not just the words, but the music.
- 1:04:51And it's it's, yeah, that's what I got.
- 1:04:57OK, so there's battle #2 Pole, North Pole #2.
- 1:05:03Yep, Yep. So the naughty song, don't play
- 1:05:07it. Don't play it for me or around
- 1:05:08me. Either one.
- 1:05:11Either one, but especially the hippopotamus. 1 for me.
- 1:05:14Most especially the chipmunks one cuz ah ah.
- 1:05:17Yep. And the nice ones, if you wanna
- 1:05:19get like, I don't know, I guess I would say me contemplative.
- 1:05:24Interesting. I would say.
- 1:05:26I like the song a lot. I don't disagree with you.
- 1:05:28Yeah, yeah. And for Luke?
- 1:05:30It doesn't. For me, the Christmas season is
- 1:05:33more about the warm and the, you know, the, I don't know, it's
- 1:05:38the warm fuzzies. And for me, that song by Judy
- 1:05:41Garland is fantastic. And I think that's, I don't
- 1:05:47know. I think that's the one.
- 1:05:48But the viewers will decide. Yeah.
- 1:05:50Yeah, they will. Decide.
- 1:05:51Decide if you want to have yourself a merry little
- 1:05:53Christmas or not. Right, right.
- 1:05:55Or, you know, like, just think about the about the actual music
- 1:05:59and like the storytelling through instruments.
- 1:06:03Yep, Yep. And then maybe you want to have
- 1:06:06an old holy night. But also the great thing is in
- 1:06:11all of our social medias, I mean boat on ours through Spotify,
- 1:06:16but our social media is you can put in your own favorite naughty
- 1:06:19or nice and be like y'all missed the boat you forgot about.
- 1:06:22This we probably did. I mean, there's so many songs
- 1:06:25like and I'll tell you what, I'd like to add some stuff to my
- 1:06:29Christmas playlist so you'd send them on in.
- 1:06:31I feel like there's a lot more naughty than what I came up
- 1:06:35with, but. There's some bad ones, there's
- 1:06:38some bad, some bad ones, that's for sure.
- 1:06:40Yeah, let's not run Grandma over.
- 1:06:42With a ring, no, we don't want to do that.
- 1:06:45So voting through Spotify on the poll is the best way.
- 1:06:50If you're not a Spotify listener, totally fine.
- 1:06:53You can hit us up on social media arguing ever after on most
- 1:06:58of the social medias. Yep.
- 1:07:01And please, after you've listened to this and enjoyed it,
- 1:07:06yeah, tell a friend to do the same.
- 1:07:08Yeah, we just wanna spread a little joy through argument.
- 1:07:12There you go. There you go.
- 1:07:15All right, have a good one. Merry Christmas.
