- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to the Daily Writer, where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Here's a simple observation.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: If you gather 10 people at the end of the day and you ask each one if they've had a good day, you'll probably hear some versions of this.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: It was okay, but or they may say, not really, I didn't have a good day.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Or they may say, well, I guess so.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Or, yeah, it was a good day, but it could have been a lot better.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Honestly, it's pretty rare for somebody to say, yes, it was a great day.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: It was a fantastic day.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: It was an amazing day.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: And I think the reason that hearing that is so rare is because we assume that if we want to have a really great day, everything has to go according to plan and everything has to be perfect.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of setting high goals and having high standards for yourself.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: But I also believe that having a great day should be something that you can achieve 90% of the time, if not way more.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: This doesn't mean you're lowering your standards.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: It just means that your conditions for happiness let you feel happy and have a great day almost every single day.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Now, to that end, I want to share with you four questions that you can ask yourself every day.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: And if you can answer yes to each of these at the end of the day, then you've had a great day.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Number one, did I wake up this morning?
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: If you woke up, congrats.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: You got to enjoy another day of life here on planet Earth.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Number two, did I get to do meaningful work today?
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: If so, that means you've contributed to society and you've added value to other people and also yourself.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Number three, did I have access to food, shelter, and resources?
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: If the answer is yes, then you are more fortunate than lots and lots of other people in the world.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: And number four, do I have people in my life who care about me?
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: And if so, that means you're blessed beyond measure, because it means that you have a great support network.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: I believe that these four questions, as simple as they are, will give you a really healthy and realistic perspective on your life and work.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Because the truth is that I want to go to bed every single night thinking that I had a really great day, even if I had some problems or frustrations.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Frankly, I struggle with this, to be really honest with you, because I'm a lifelong perfectionist.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: So I wrote this email for myself more than anybody else.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: But I hope that it gives you a healthier perspective on your life as well.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Hey, as always, thanks for listening.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Keep writing, keep showing up, and I'll see you tomorrow.
