- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of the Tortured Fans Department Podcast.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: I am Sean Boyle, and joining me today, it's a special guest, it's a recurring guest.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: It is Mr.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Jeff Jesusky.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Jeff, how are you?
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Doing great, buddy.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Backed our way into the playoffs, ready to ready to talk some shop.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: He's referring to the Philadelphia Phillies who made made their best effort to ruin our fall.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Thankfully, disaster was avoided.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: We'll get to that a bit later.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Jeff, what a sports weekend we had here.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, simply too much action, I would say.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: I could not keep up.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: I was trying my hottest, couldn't do it.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: We had college football, MLB final weekend drama, NFL Sunday, and the President's Cup to boot.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: We're going to touch on it all.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Jeff, I'll start with a couple opening questions.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: First, what were you watching on Sunday as all of this was going on at once?
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so probably the most old school thing about me as someone who, as you know, like really not the most old school guy.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: I'm pretty open to just about anything new school.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: I hate watching multiple screens at once.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: I will do like the second screen laptop every now and again, but if I'm watching something on TV, I want the one thing on the TV.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: I couldn't do that today.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: So I had I had the quad box going all day while chasing Laney around.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: So really, you know, a lot of a lot of information coming into this brain at once today.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: We had I had the Bills, uh, Bills and Chargers and the Steelers and Bengals on in the one o'clock window, plus the President's Cup.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, plus the Phillies, and then uh, and then once the Phillies game ended, then I tossed the fever game into the fourth box, and I watched the end of the Commander Seahawks game before the Ravens came on.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: So uh a lot lot to process, a lot of information coming in.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: What a job by you.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: That's that's why you're on the podcast tonight.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: You know, we needed an honest effort out of you today, we're gonna get it.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: So gotta stay current.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: I all I was doing, how about this?
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: I was doing a double TV quad box.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: I went for eight different screens.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: I did get lost in it at some point.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: I was looking for a game because I could hear it, but I couldn't see it.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: There was there was a lot going on.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: See, that's what that's what happens to me.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: I'll be fixated on a game, I'll realize the sounds on a different game, and then it's just the it my brain fries, it's over.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was a debacle, but we we powered through.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Jeff, I have another rant where I might expose myself as an old, but if you'll bear with me, I think this this might this might raise awareness, if nothing else.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Are you a Chipotle guy, Jeff?
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Do you do you go to Chipotle ever?
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Uh never, but uh it's not a top choice for me, but but I've had it enough to to know the deal.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I'm uh once a month or maybe once every month and a half.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Used to be a weekly guy when I was right, it was right next to my office.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: No longer the case, so I dabble once in a while.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Chipotle's lost the plot.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: We've lost a good one, Jeff.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of things that are starting to make me sound like an old man.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: I think this is the most uh obvious, most recent installment.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: I go to order a quesadilla in person.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: I said, Hey, can I get a chicken quesadilla?
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: They said, Hey, that's actually only a digital menu option.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: You can only order it online.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: I said, No worries, no worries, I'll get the app.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: I'll go through that inconvenience, I'll get the app.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: I go on the app and you know what it says?
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Not available in store only.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: I say, okay, I say, okay, okay, okay.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: I show them my phone and say, hey, this is what the app says.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: They go, hmm, that's wrong.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: I said, could you just whip up a case of deal?
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: I'll pay whatever at this point.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: I'll pay top dollar.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: And they go, actually, no, we can't.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: It has to come through the mobile order.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: I said, give me a burrito and I'll see you at Kenoba.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: I can't do this anymore.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: What the fuck is that?
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: I've never heard of something in my life.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: I didn't like when we converted all restaurant menus to QR codes.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: I thought that was a sham.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: This takes it to a whole new level.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: I think I I think I would have spontaneously combusted in the store if I had that interaction.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: So God bless you.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: I love the the I'll be taking my business to Kadobish out.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: And I couldn't even muster that out.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: They got the cameras on them saying if I see a quesadilla come out of your hands, you're gone.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, seriously.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: And I didn't want I didn't want that to happen.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: I felt like I was in a Kirby Enthusiasm episode.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: I felt like somebody was pulling a ruse over me.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Nearly lost my composure, but thankfully that was yesterday.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: That's that's behind us.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: Let's start with college football Jeff that took place on Saturday.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: A lot of good games.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: It was a loaded slate of sorts.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: So it was not one elite matchup, but there was a lot of really good ones.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: What were a couple of the most impressive results for you from week four?
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I think I'll start with the obvious, and and that was what what your guy, John Sumral and the Florida Gators, were able to do.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: You know, for for a lot of people who follow the sport as closely as as you do.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: I had a couple people ask me about it during the week, and I was like, listen, is Ole Miss the better football team?
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Probably, but it's a clear letdown spot.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: Kowan Lacey out, like, I think this could go the other way.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: And boy, did I not see the way that it ended up going.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Florida just absolutely gut punched them constantly until they fell to the ground and the 10-second count went down.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: Uh couple couple of notes from your boy Summerall.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: This is a team that hasn't won 10 games nor started 4-0 since 2019.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: They're off to a rock and start.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Are they going to win 10 games?
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: I'm still not the world's biggest Aaron Philo believer, but you could give the ball to Duke Clark and Jaden Bond every play, and I think you'd be just fine.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they are able to run the ball so effectively that the passing lanes, when they do pass, are so open.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: They're really easy reads.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: It's simple.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: It's guys vertically stretching the field because of the fact that they're able to be so efficient on the ground.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: I do think they're not a flawless team because their defense just still needs a little work, but the turnaround in year one from Summerall, and I know it's easier to turn programs around quickly now, but this is unbelievable.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Like you alluded to, haven't won 10 games since 2019.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: They haven't been ranked in the top 10 since 2021.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Billy Napier was never able to do that in his tenure at Florida.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Uh Summerl has it uh he is likely going to have it within four weeks.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: So uh I think it's a credit to him, it's a credit to that staff.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: They are really good, they're well coached, and uh I do think they're gonna have a real opportunity to win nine or ten games with a strong schedule.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: So we'll see what's to come with Florida, but I agree that was the first one I had down as well for most impressive this weekend.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and and the other thing, you know, certainly defensively, there's uh a significant amount of change, and obviously a quarterback, but a lot of those skill guys, Ba included, were on that team last year that went four and eight.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: So I I don't know what Billy Napes was doing down there, but it it certainly wasn't working.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's probably a good idea to transition to a new coach and already paying dividends.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: So what else do you have next?
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: This is, you know, it wasn't the prettiest game.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: It's not one that makes you say, holy crap, that's definitively the number one team in the country.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: But Texas to go into a hostile environment down in Neeland and do what they did specifically on the defensive side, where you have 10 sacks, Colin Simmons has five of them, uh Rasheem Biles, the pit transfer, has 13 tackles in a sack.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Like the fact that Faison Brandon had positive rushing yards is honestly a testament to him.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: And the fact that he got up this morning is a testament to him.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: But you know, I'm not a Sark guy, especially with the way he's been boohooing and whining in the media.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: You know, I I think Archer's good, not great.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: And and I'm starting to wonder if we're ever gonna see that next level out of him.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: But when you go on the road and your defense brings that effort, kudos, hat tip, put a helmet sticker on the Texas defense and Colin Simmons specifically.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Texas, they just get it done in in ways that you don't expect them to, because what you hear about Texas is Arch and Sarkeesian and it's the offense, but really it's their defense that's the story.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: 10 sacks.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: Colin Simmons literally took the piss.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, he actually literally took the piss yesterday.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: Unbelievable game from him.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: The defense is frighteningly good.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: I think they're definitely the worthy number one team.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: Whether they are the best team remains to be seen, but their resume thus far, beating Ohio State in the manner that they did, and then going on the road to Nealand and beating Tennessee is very impressive.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: At what point, though, is Arch just this and not something that we want him to be?
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: But it might still be enough.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: It's a weird, it's a weird thing.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: We're we're getting close, I think.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: Uh, I mean, now you're at, you know, played the couple of games two years ago, started the whole season last year, and now, you know, now you're a quarter of the way through uh through the 26th season.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: Uh I'd say we got another game or two into SEC play before we can we can make a distinction on okay, the you know, the the stock's still rising, or the stock might be leveling out, and this might just be who he is, and he's a good quarterback, but he might not be the uh the the prince who was promised the number one pick, uh the savior of the Miami Dolphins.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it's weird because he has one or two drives a game.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: We're like, oh, there it is.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: I see it.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: He was excellent to start the game.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: I think he was nine of his first ten, they were firing on all cylinders, and then they just like a lot of these teams do that aren't, you know, what Miami and and Ohio State have done to the lesser teams, obviously Ohio State losing to Texas, but they just kind of hit that lull instead of keeping the the gas pedal going.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: And and I think, you know, I'm sure Wingo and Coleman are probably a little frustrated with their production to to start this year, thinking, hey, you know, we're gonna be the guys on the number one team in the country with a potential number one overall pick at quarterback.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: And I don't think either one of them has quite lived up to the billing statistically.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: And then we saw in that Ohio State game, they made two of the errors that put Texas in the deficit that they were in to begin with.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a good point, actually.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: And it could lead to some misleading stats from Arch when things like that happen, because that was a fluky interception, and there are some plays where you think he does a good job and it doesn't get anything out of it.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: It's a interesting situation because of the name behind Arch, but it's also just a huge brand, and I think they're the story of college football.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: I'm not in the camp that they're the best team, but I think they're the talk of the sport, and I think that's a good thing for college football.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: Oh, no doubt.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, the the whatever, you know, decade-long sort of lull where it was, hey, this is a good Texas team, but we're not reaching the the Vince Young levels of the the early 2000s and and a lot, and even the Colt McCoy levels of the late 2000s, like it it was bleak there for a little while, and there were some some waves, some ups and downs.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: But if they're gonna be back in the the picture like this, where they're ranked in the top five in the country, where they're going into the playoffs consistently, there's no doubt that that's a good thing for college football.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Would I rather they weren't in the SEC?
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Yes, but that's not up to me.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: What else is on your list?
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Uh you have to be impressed with what Dylan Raola and the Oregon Ducks did yesterday.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: You have an emotional, emotional moment where, you know, Dante Moore nearly gets decapitated on a football field, goes into that, you know, the fencing position where that it's obviously extremely serious at that point.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: You're coming off of a tough start to the year where you just haven't looked like the team that was promised.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: And then the backup quarterback comes in and does what he did in a relatively flawless game against USC yesterday.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Uh the sophomore running back, D'Arre Hill, was outstanding, had 168 yards from scrimmage uh and a couple of touchdowns.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: And so I think on the high side of that, you have to be really impressed with Oregon.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: And on the downside of that, it's very clear at this point Lincoln Riley's not a big game hunter.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: He's such a loser, Lincoln Riley.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: Uh, he really gets my goat because he's another guy who gets a lot of plaudits and he he does great work with quarterbacks.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: But at a certain point, USC just needs to stop being talked about in these conversations.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: Because we always do this with certain teams and certain coaches.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: It looks good, it looks good, and it looks good, and then they never do it in the big spot.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: And that's always been the case with Lincoln Riley.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: It's always usually down to his defense.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: His defense at USC can't tackle the yards after catch for Oregon.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: They were running amuck.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: It's always kind of the same formula with Lincoln Riley.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: It's an explosive offense, a really good quarterback, flashy receivers, and oh wow, the defense blows.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they're not tough.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: No, no.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: I've had stakes upper.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've had stakes.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: You know, it's it's the personality personified from your head coach.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: It's just not, it's just not his style.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: They, like you said, early on in his career when he was the quarterback whisperer, and every quarterback he that came to him won the Heisman or went number one overall.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: Like he's unbelievable at that.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: There's no doubting that.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: And it's not that he's not a good football coach.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: There's hundreds of worse football coaches in in Division I football.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: But, you know, you wonder how whether things would have looked different had years ago they not, you know, with Baker not blown that game, I think it was to Georgia in the playoff where they had that massive lead, and and Lincoln's just never been able to get over the hump since then.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: And I I I don't see that ending anytime soon.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: No, I don't either.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: And I liked some of the stuff from Oregon Postgame.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: Their social media team did did a good job of a troll.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: Dan Lanning had some pointed comments.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: I think he was frustrated.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: I think he was frustrated for the hit in this instance.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: And I think it was worse.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: The the one, the fact that the guy celebrated after it.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: Two, continued celebrating.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: And then three, Lincoln seemed befuddled that everybody was questioning why he let him stay on the sideline after he was ejected.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Are you kidding?
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: Did you miss the play?
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: You just had a guy try to commit murder and then dance on the dead man's grave, and then you're gonna let him bop up and down the sideline after he's ejected?
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: Get out of here.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: I loved, I loved everything Dan Lanning had to say afterwards.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: He said basically, if you want to put what was it, if you want to watch TV or be in a movie or whatever the case is, you go to Los Angeles.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: If you want to win football games, you come to Oregon.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: They continue to own that matchup.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: I think Dan Lanning, the thing that I do like about him, he seems very emotionally intelligent.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: He knows how to maybe it's manipulation, maybe it's just winning you over.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: He you could see he was in crisis management mode.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: He he had players distraught after seeing their quarterback go down, and he was in about five or ten different guys' ears, uh putting his arms around him saying, Hey, we're gonna get through this.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: And that's just that's the leadership you want in that situation.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: I can't help but wonder what Mr.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: Lincoln would have looked like if that had happened at his quarterback.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: I don't think it would have been quite as smooth.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: He would have been seeing ghosts like Sam Darnold.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: Did you have any other results, Jeff?
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: So on the on the positive side, I had one that we're gonna get to in a little bit, so I'll hold off on that one.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: I just want to give two quick shout-outs.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: You know, you and I are East Coast guys, we've always been East Coast guys.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: Give a little love to the to the nightlife out in the West Coast.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: What a job by Stanford last night, and then what a job by Minnesota going out to Washington, uh, getting the victory, PJ Smear and his his lineman's blood on his face after the game.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think Drake Lindsay's really good.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Uh, and then for for Stanford, it it's a positive for sure, but geez, things have gone south quickly for Brent Key and Georgia Tech once uh Mr.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Haynes King made his way to the uh to the NFL.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: Your only wins against Mercer, you haven't played the easiest schedule.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: I understand that, but Colorado certainly doesn't look like world beaters.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: You banked on the younger Mendoza brother, and he's been the most average you could be.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: Like I think you would put him exactly in the the 60s or 70s as far as college football quarterbacks go currently, and and that's just not gonna get it done.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: And then defensively, no disrespect to the young man.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: You can't allow Davis Warren to throw for 396 yards without a 100-yard receiver in the game.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: He diced them up.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: That might be more yards than he threw for at Michigan, and he started like nine games there.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: I forgot about the Davis Warren experience at Michigan.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: That was that was something.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: I like those shout-outs, Jeff.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: There's something to be said about Stanford just just finding a way to get it done with it's it kind of seems from the outside like a Mickey Mouse operation when you have Andrew Luck running around on the sidelines.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and his former teammate Intavita Pritchard is the head coach.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: Like interesting.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so that's a good result.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: The Minnesota win was great.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: I had kind of written off the Minnesota team.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: I was high on them to start the year.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: I thought they were gonna be good, they return a lot.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: That's PJ Flex thing is building culture.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: He barely ever suffers losses in the portal.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: This year they lost Coy Parrish.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: But aside from that, it was pretty much we're gonna keep the team intact, we're gonna build around Drake Lindsay, who I think is gonna be a good quarterback.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: And then they got absolutely boat raced by the the big bad man in town, which we'll get to in a second.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: But I was like, okay, maybe they're not that good, but that's a good bounce back result to go on the road and beat Washington.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: I had a couple just quickly.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: I love seeing Louisville lose.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: I love seeing Louisville lose.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: Louisville and Tennessee lose, Kentucky wins.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: Who cares?
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: It was South Alabama.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: We love those kind of Saturdays.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: The Wake Forest, Jake Dicker, this coach, yeah, he's gonna be a big deal.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: I have written down on the uh on the rundown under any final takeaways.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: I said special shout out to Jake Dicker, ball coach.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: Ball coach, yeah.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: He's a proper ball coach.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: I love his respect the demon geeks.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: I loved after the game two on the field.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: It's nice how he took the time and spoke with the reporter after a huge emotional win.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: It's just not that hard, Steve.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: You know, we could all find a time to do it.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: Also, I don't want to hit too close to home, but it was a nice win for Luke Fickel in Wisconsin.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: That was that was much needed.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: Did they did they play yesterday?
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: Jeff is at Penn State, a woman proud fan.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: I won't talk about the manner.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't say I'm a proud fan currently.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: I'm a more pretty distraught.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, more of a tortured fan these days.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: And then Iowa going on the road and beating Michigan in a game they really had no business winning, but found a way.
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: And it was a late throw and catch for Iowa, which that's usually not what you expect when you look at an Iowa team.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: But a really good throw and catch, may I add?
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: A toe tap in the end zone to silence the big house, a big win for Iowa and a deserved loss for Michigan, I would say.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just a great win for Iowa.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Certainly not my favorite program, but uh I'll gladly take that win over the Wolverines after the gift.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: The Wolverines were given.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: Iowa maybe got a gift back on them uh last night with the the late injury leaving the time on the clock, and then a beautiful I've never I couldn't tell you last time I've seen such a good back-shoulder throw from an Iowa quarterback to win the game there with Vander Z.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: So credit to the Hawkeyes and a very emotional Kirk Ference after that win.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that I do kind of agree.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: It's the lesser of two evils with Iowa, Michigan.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: It's not that I loved seeing Iowa win, but I love seeing Michigan lose a little bit more.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: So that's good in terms of the impressive results this weekend, Jeff.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: The big conversation heading into the year was the year of the quarterback.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: This NFL draft's gonna be loaded with quarterbacks, and that's all you hear in the offseason.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: I had a quarterback draft with Michael Collins.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: I had Jake Myers on here to talk about the season ahead, and that was one of the big talking points.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: I might be overreacting, but I just have to wonder, are any of these QBs better than Jeremiah Smith?
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: Because it doesn't seem to me that there are any.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: And if I had the first pick of the NFL draft, I know who I would be taking.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's hard, right?
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: Uh do I think any of them are better football players than Jeremiah Smith?
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: No.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: Do I think somebody will get drafted ahead of Jeremiah Smith?
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: Probably.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: Should they?
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: No.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: But, you know, I think it's I think it's a really tricky position for NFL teams to be put in when you can theoretically get a guy on a rookie deal who can start to rebuild your franchise if you're in the position to be drafting number one overall.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: You look at my Miami Dolphins, for instance, Malik Willis has been fine this year.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: He's certainly not the problem on the worst football team in the NFL, but it's going to be very hard for him to prove to that front office and to that franchise that should they land at the number one pick, that he should be the guy with Jeremiah Smith to throw to.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: There are just there, it's such a hard decision to make.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: And unlike, you know, unless you get a year where Kenny Pickett's the first quarterback off the board or EJ Manuel's the first quarterback off the board, and you don't really have a choice, as long as these guys kind of remain in the conversation and are in that, you know, this guy looks worthy of being an early NFL draft pick.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: I think one of them will end up going, but Jeremiah Smith's clearly the best player in college football.
- 21:36unknown: Yeah.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: And he's clearly, I I think we were talking about this last night.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: Todd McShay said when he was a freshman that he would have taken Jeremiah Smith number one.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: He's only gotten better every year since.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: So not sure why that would change, and I don't expect it to.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's an interesting just team building argument because you could probably make points for either knowing that somebody is going to be a Pro Bowl for lack of a better.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Level receiver, one of the five or ten best at his position.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: It's just that that position is nowhere near as valuable as the one that will likely end up going first overall.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: So if you were in the seat of a general manager, who would be the couple of guys you feel good about this year so far, based on their performances and just kind of projecting a little bit?
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: Who are those guys that you actually feel good about?
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: Because that's where I go back to.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: It's like, yeah, we talked about a lot of these guys, but other than the 25-year-old Trinidad Chambliss, I'm not sure a lot of these guys are putting out elite tape.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: It's a fair point.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: And I don't know that I can confidently answer that.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: I think, like I said, I'll give it another two weeks or so before I say, hey, Arch just isn't a number one pick.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: I think a lot of people have made the point that if his last name was Manning, we'd have already done that.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: And maybe that's true, but but uh, you know, you can still see the ability.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: However, I do concede the point that many have made that there's not the one elite trait that says, hey, Arch Manning, number one overall pick.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: So I think he would still be my clubhouse leader if somebody were to be that guy, but the uh the lead is shrinking rapidly, and uh and I'm not sure who has jumped up to take that mantle yet, because nobody in this class that again was supposed to be every year we do this where the next class is the class, and we're already starting to do that again.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, maybe this class isn't it, but next year.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: So if you want to play it that way, and again, I'll use the Dolphins as the example.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: You take Jeremiah Smith, you're still probably winning three or four games next year.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: Maybe you do still have the chance uh to pick in the top three and get whoever the next guy is in 2028.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: But I don't have a good answer because I'm not comfortable with any of the the like Trinidad Champlist has probably looked the best of the guys that were talked about in that range, but there's no world in which I'm taking a five, 10, 25-year-old at number one overall.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: I'm with you on that.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: Can I do exactly what you just said we always do and shift the conversation to the bona fide number one overall pick in the 2028 draft because his name is Camero Taylor?
- 24:05SPEAKER_00: And he is my favorite player in the sport.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: He's probably a lot of people's favorite player in the sport.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Jeff, this the deep ball that this man throws, it is majestic to watch.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: He hits guys dead.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: It is beautiful.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: He can run, he's got a great head on his shoulders.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: He said, I bleed maroon and white.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: Only guy ever to say that, besides maybe Brandon Walker.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: It is an astounding young man.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, true.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: Dakota, yeah, I forgot about him.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: But it's an astounding young man we're talking about here.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: And I know it's early into his sophomore year.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: He's only started a handful of games as a quarterback in college.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: I'm nothing but blown away by this guy.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: It's unbelievable.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: He's top 10 in the country in passing yards, he's first in touchdowns, he's got nearly 200 and another touchdown on the ground.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: Like you can't say anything bad about him because he hasn't done anything bad yet.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: Like he's got he's got the the Bulldogs 4-0.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: As we get further into this conversation, I do have something to note just for us to monitor to maybe pump the brakes on the team a little bit, but I don't think Camario is slowing down anytime soon.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he absolutely, I alluded to it earlier, he absolutely diced up a once proud Minnesota defense, and then in this post-game interview, he said, I just gotta be better.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: I threw that interception in the red zone, it can't happen.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: And I said, What?
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: Polly Rowe was called like a thug, and I uh Arch Manning was laughing at AI images of her, and this guy's a year younger and he's not draft eligible.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: What are we doing?
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: So I think he has made Mississippi State very nationally relevant.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: The question is, Jeff, can they end this season as a playoff team?
- 25:43SPEAKER_00: The schedule is awfully brutal.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: I don't think so.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: Hard to forget, but or easy to forget, but Mississippi State did start 4-0 last year with a win over number 12 Arizona State.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: They proceeded to finish 1-8 over their final nine games.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: Do I anticipate that happening again?
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: No, I think they're a much better football team.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: I think Jeff Levy's found a nice flow as to who the Mississippi State Bulldogs are after a pretty decent stretch of nobody being able to figure that out.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: Maybe Brandon Walker had the answer, but but I sure didn't.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: But I I think they're probably in the reins, in the range of Florida, where yeah, they could win nine games.
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: Maybe they they sneak out a tenth and are on like the edge of that conversation.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: But I I think, like you said, with that schedule, eight eight wins is gonna be okay.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: Like I you can't look at that as a negative just because you started four-o uh with a couple of impressive wins.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: I think Missouri is the most criminally overranked team in the country every single year, but they're not a bad football team and and not gonna take that win away from Mississippi State.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's fair.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: I did completely forget that Mississippi State started four and oh last year.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: I thought you were doing a bit, to be honest.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: I didn't think that was reality.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: So we're just gonna omit that from the record and we're gonna buy into this year's ball club.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: I do think more fun.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I do think there's a chance.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: It's an outside chance, but I do think there's a chance that we're sitting looking at two teams in Mississippi that are both eight and three heading into the egg bowl.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: And that game could be for a playoff spot.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: That's in the world of possibility.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: So could be.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: I'm hoping that plays out that way because that would just be an amazing watch for all of us over Thanksgiving weekend.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: But in all reality, they're gonna take on some water.
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: That defense is not built to last, I don't think, and Camario can only take them so far.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: And with that schedule, all those things are kind of working against him.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: So it is probably more realistic that they're in the seven to eight win range than they are in the nine-10 win range, but it's a fun story nonetheless.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: Jeff, any takeaways before we move to the NFL?
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just had we we don't have to really dive into these, but these are just three comments about we we talked a lot of the positive.
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: These are three teams that stink, they're in shambles.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: One, what the heck is going on over at Cal.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: There's been reports last week that Tosh Lupoy's contract isn't even finalized, the contract term sheet isn't set.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: He's been coaching for he was hired in December.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: We're in September.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: I I work at a state school.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: I know how long some of these things can take, but that's excessive.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: Uh, and and they've done nothing to help JKS after an unbelievable freshman season.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: He was bad against Clemson, and he doesn't have any help.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: Rest in power to the Mike Luxley era.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: That's uh an abysmal Maryland team.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: Now two and 17 in his last 19 Big Ten games has to be the straw that breaks the Campbell's back.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: Otherwise, I don't know what's going on over there.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: And then third and finally, John Matir stinks.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: Oh, glad.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: I'm glad you brought them up.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: That was the only takeaway I had to mention as well.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: I'll touch on Maryland quick.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: They're the only team I've seen that looked like they traveled cross-country to play.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: And lost by 51.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: Lost by a million.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: I've never seen something like that.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: You think Loxley knows his backs against the wall.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: This is going to be his final season.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: And you think they'd show an ounce of pride.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: They showed zero.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: They have no pride.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: They're a prideless ball club.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: They were two and a half point dogs.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: They lost by 51.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: I bet Maryland.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: So kind of a bad beat.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: I just want to touch on Oklahoma.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: I have to issue an apology to the listeners of this program.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: I sat here and gave away the Oklahoma Sooners as a team to make the playoff.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: Listen, you don't come here for winners.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: You come here to laugh a little.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: And I'm the butt of the joke.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: Most times I hate Sean Matir.
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: Can't stand him.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: I want he should be benched.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: I don't care who the backup is, he should not play another down unless there's several injuries.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: Venables said they talked about it.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: And listen, Venables isn't innocent in this.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: I don't think he's he's uh a head coach of a power program like that.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: It's just not it's not it.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: They lucked into a playoff last year.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: Except on they just coach different sides of the ball.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: The poor Oklahoma fans, they're like, oh, finally, we're gonna have a defense, we're gonna have a proper defense.
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you might, and your offense is gonna be worse in the country.
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: And the defense also not that great.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, he's a disaster.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: Oklahoma's a disaster.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: I don't want to spend another second on them this year, and I'm gonna make a note that we shall not.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: So let's talk about the NFL.
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: A lot to unpack.
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: I guess we should start with a segment.
- 30:12SPEAKER_00: We're three weeks in, we have some data now.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: There are some teams that have a good record, but we might not be buying into them.
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: We're gonna call this calling their bluff.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: Are there any teams you would like to call their bluff?
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this was actually pretty difficult.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: I think a lot of the way this season has started isn't all of that surprising.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: There are some some ones on the negative side that are more surprising, but I I just I the Vikings thing's gotta gotta stop at some point, right?
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, I'm a Brian Flores guy.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: I believe in the defense.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: He's gonna do the most ridiculous stuff.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: He was blitzing 75% of the time through two games.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: But if Justin Jefferson's hurt, if they keep if the running backs keep getting banged up, Mason's already on the IR, Jones has been, you know, limited uh this week with with a bit of an injury.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: Kyler Murray, I just I I can't imagine in that division, even with how the Packers have looked, that things are going to be super easy for them.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: And even if they're a nine or ten win playoff team, I just I just don't buy it.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: I think that was the clear answer for me as well.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: It it's easy to point to them because they didn't have those expectations heading into the year and they started 3-0, but I think you added some good context as to why exactly it's not super sustainable.
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: Aaron Jones, he's had a great career, hell of a career, but he is now, Jeff, the guy in NCAA football that has like that really b bad banged up injury trait, and you could get a few carries out of him each other.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: Get six carries and then he disappears, and then he's done.
- 31:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: So that's exactly what Aaron Jones has become.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go in a direction where I just wanna lower the expectations now because it started to shift and it's the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 31:54unknown: Uh-huh.
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 31:56SPEAKER_00: They look better.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: They're certainly a better team than last season.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: Not hard to do.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: I just don't know that they're this world-beating Super Bowl contender that now we're all expecting them to be because oh, it's the Chiefs, they're back.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: They really still can't throw the ball downfield.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: We've seen some really good Travis Kelsey tape the last couple of weeks, and that's encouraging.
- 32:17SPEAKER_00: I don't know if I've seen Rasheed Rice and Xavier Worthy catch a pass more than five yards from the line of scrimmage in a long time.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: That worries me.
- 32:25SPEAKER_00: Kenneth Walker, absolute dog, canine.
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: I love him.
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: He's carrying my fantasy team.
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: He cannot be touching the ball 30 times a game like he has been.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: That's not going to last the whole season.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: And then some of those things, I think the defense is a little older.
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: It might look good to start the year and wear down as the year goes on.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: I think they're a good team.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: I just don't think that we should be lumping them into the conversation with the elite of the elite yet.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: I think that's fair.
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: I think I'm my brain's just broken to the fact that I'm just gonna I'm just gonna be on the side of believing in the Chiefs until until it's all the way over and and Mahomes is old and gray.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: They start like you said, the the downfield passing has been an issue for a couple of years now.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: It really ticked up last week.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: I think the stat was that last week was the you know Patrick's best game by air yards and and some of that stuff since like 2022.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: Uh and and obviously, I don't really care a whole lot about what happened today.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: They played the Dolphins.
- 33:20SPEAKER_01: I'm starting at linebacker for the Dolphins.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: They just got back from that game, actually.
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: But I think if Kenneth Walker can stay healthy, they're in that mix.
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: If he gets banged up, then sure, I'm with you.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: Is there anybody else you're calling their bluff?
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: There's a certain team that's close to home for me that you could you could say, because I'm about to.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: The Pittsburgh Steelers are two and one, Joe.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:43SPEAKER_01: I just they listen, they they got rid of Tomlin because they wanted a change, and then they hired offensive Mike Tomlin.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: So I just assume they're gonna win nine games, sneak in as the final wild card and lose by 22 in the first round of the in the wild card round of the playoffs.
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: So it's I'm certainly not considering them.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm certainly not considering them a contender, but uh this is the best they've looked offensively in years today.
- 34:11SPEAKER_00: How about this?
- 34:12SPEAKER_00: First time they scored more than seven points in the first quarter since 2022, 69 games without scoring more than seven points in the first quarter.
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: That's an astounding stat.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: I mean, truly unbelievable.
- 34:25SPEAKER_00: You know how dreadful that is to watch every Sunday?
- 34:27SPEAKER_00: They did look great against the Bengals.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's a sign of things to come.
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: They now have a the ultimate trap game.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: It's the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: I mean, that is gross, grimy football.
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: That's why we shouldn't have Thursday night football as that exact game right there.
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I might I might find something better to do.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: I think there's a lot of better options, to be quite honest.
- 34:46SPEAKER_00: Is there now?
- 34:48SPEAKER_00: Let's flip it a little bit.
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: What about a losing or a team with a losing record that you would like to buy in on?
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: I I would like you to take a piece of paper, write sucker on it, and slap it on my forehead, because I'm still in on the Cowboys.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: I don't care.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: It was I I was bringing the loser of that game to this segment regardless.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Baltimore sneaks it out on whatever Mickey Mouse field they were playing on in Rio, but the Cowboys finally ran the ball well this week.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: Dak still looks good.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: If George Pickens can get out of his head, then they have as good, if not clearly, the number one receiving tandem in the NFL, barring maybe Chasen Higgins, depending on your flavor of receiver.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: But I I think I think that the Eagles are going to be a playoff team, but it's not going to be a runaway.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: And I think those teams are going to be in a battle all year.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: And I think the Cowboys are still going to be a playoff team.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: It's just a little bit harder now that they're one and two instead of stealing that one against the Ravens today.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: I I can hear that.
- 35:49SPEAKER_00: And the Cowboys, they looked better in the last two games than I actually thought they'd be because what we do in August, we talk about this all the time, is there's certain teams.
- 35:57SPEAKER_00: The Chargers are guilty of this, the Cowboys are guilty of this, they're offseason champions every year.
- 36:00SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 36:01SPEAKER_00: They're great in the offseason.
- 36:03SPEAKER_00: Oh God, is Herbert sexy?
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: Or the Cowboys America's team.
- 36:07SPEAKER_00: Well, then football starts and specifically the leaves start to change color.
- 36:11SPEAKER_00: And those teams are not really all they're cracked up to be.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: I think I can get behind the Cowboys being a little bit better than I anticipated.
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: The offense is legitimate.
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: It's just the defense is bad.
- 36:22SPEAKER_00: How much has the defense improved from last year?
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: It seems like that's a good thing.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: You know, it's it's three games into a tenure, and I think a lot of people thought that maybe his, you know, bringing upbringing in the Fangio system was just going to bring some drastically new ideas, but it's hard to put lipstick on a pig.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: There's not a lot of there's not a lot of top-tier talent on that defense after you traded your dog last year.
- 36:46SPEAKER_01: Uh and it's not gonna get any easier on that side of the ball, I don't think.
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: That's that's fair, and that's certainly what Cowboys fans will have to be worrying about.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: I have one, Jeff, and this is gross to say.
- 36:57SPEAKER_00: It's grimy.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: But I'm gonna buy some Drake maybe stock at his lowest.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna I'm gonna buy low.
- 37:06SPEAKER_00: It's been bleak.
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: It's a case, but listen here.
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: As a fellow survivor, there's a way out.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: I haven't hit a good chip shot in two years.
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: I know in the back of my head, if I go out on that golf course tomorrow, I have I have soft hands and a fuck you attitude, to quote the great Neil Schuster.
- 37:23SPEAKER_00: I think Drake will find it.
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: I don't know why I think that it's been really bad.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: He quite literally just he looked like John Matteer.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: The ball is just falling out of his hands.
- 37:34SPEAKER_00: He's staring down interceptions.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: It's the stuff of Jacoby Brissett.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: You'd think they did a body swap because Jacoby Brissett looks like a half-decent ball player.
- 37:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:43SPEAKER_00: And I don't know what happened to Drake from the MVP caliber season last year to the beginning of this year, and including that little playoff run.
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: But he needs to figure it out.
- 37:53SPEAKER_00: I'm trusting Mike Rabel.
- 37:55SPEAKER_00: I know his wife shouldn't.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: Here's what gives me pause.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: And I thought about this name for a later segment, but I'll just get it out of the way here.
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: How many times are we gonna do this?
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: Oh, what a great year, and then five years of dog shit from Josh McDaniels before we're just like maybe Josh McDaniel's not that great of an offensive coordinator.
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: Josh McDaniel could be an issue.
- 38:19SPEAKER_00: You're right, because some of the stuff they're doing looks like it never stood a chance either.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: Like Drake has been bad, but also there's some scheme stuff that's just been abysmal.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and listen, if AJ comes back in in two or three weeks and they're able to get on the same page and get hummin, this could flip quickly.
- 38:36SPEAKER_01: They have four games against the Dolphins and the Jets.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't worry too much about those, though.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: The Jets do look a little friskier than I was anticipating.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: But but there is a there is a path back there.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: But, you know, I I really think whatever it was that these uh, you know, defensive coordinators are so good now, especially with with how easy they made offense for so long.
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: There's just some a lot of stuff from that playoff tape that I think defensive coordinators are just honing it on and figuring out, hey, this is a really talented guy who's going through a tough stretch, and we're gonna keep doing the same stuff that made it a tough stretch.
- 39:12SPEAKER_00: That's a good point.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: And I have to do this.
- 39:15SPEAKER_00: It's an obligatory, it's almost a weekly segment.
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: We should just do Sean's Texans corner.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna mention the Houston Pixens.
- 39:21SPEAKER_00: I I I can't quit them.
- 39:23SPEAKER_00: There's every year there's a couple teams like this, and I will bet the Texans until they win a game.
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: I'll probably bet them until they win four games, which could be the whole season at this rate.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: They're 0-3 again.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: Super worried.
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm a believer though.
- 39:36SPEAKER_01: You you come into the year touted as the you know, no questions asked, best defense in the league, hopes of carrying them through a deep playoff run.
- 39:45SPEAKER_01: Maybe the maybe they'll get the offense figured out.
- 39:47SPEAKER_01: Maybe David Montgomery fixes the running game.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: It's not fixed.
- 39:52SPEAKER_01: No, they continue to neglect to invest on the offensive line, they continue to put CJ Stroud in tough positions week in and week out, and they're learning the hard way that when you have, even if you have a great defense, you get a week one performance like a guy from Josh Allen, who you know has been stopped very few times over the last five years.
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: And then if you score 16 points every week, it's really hard to keep other teams to 15 or fewer.
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's it's a good point.
- 40:22SPEAKER_00: And I don't want to like them as much as I do, I just can't help it.
- 40:25SPEAKER_00: I will also say I took them in the first round of the NFL wins pool we did on this program.
- 40:29SPEAKER_00: That's aging pretty poorly.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: I will say though, I got the Chiefs in the fourth.
- 40:34SPEAKER_00: So we canceled that right out.
- 40:35SPEAKER_00: So maybe that's not the worst thing.
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: If the Texas could just win a couple, I might be in good shape there.
- 40:41SPEAKER_00: Jeff, you know the segment we do here.
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: It's the bad coaches club.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: We also have the good coaches club, if you have any candidates for that as well.
- 40:47SPEAKER_00: But our focus is really on the bad.
- 40:49SPEAKER_00: We like highlighting the errors of people.
- 40:51SPEAKER_00: It takes three strikes to be inducted.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: We've got a few mainstays in the club already.
- 40:55SPEAKER_00: We have a whole wing dedicated to Mike McDaniel.
- 40:57SPEAKER_00: I think there I think there's a lot of people I'm hoping you bring to the attention.
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: Do you have anybody you would like to issue a strike to for the bad coaches club?
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: And this is NFL only, correct?
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 41:10SPEAKER_00: We've gone completely off the rails at points.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: Now, we do mostly focus on the NFL.
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: Alrighty.
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: Cash the Underground.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: It was week five before the Ben State.
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: This is um this is a guy who's won a lot of football games, he's had a lot of success, he's done a lot of good things.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: It's time to to just accept that his name is Mike Lafrade.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: Oh, good.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: I like this.
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: I hate this guy, so I don't think he's ever gotten a strike.
- 41:44SPEAKER_00: He he's gonna put him on the board.
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: He should get I'm I'm gonna let's lose next week and start 0-4.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: We're gonna each double up here.
- 41:53SPEAKER_00: You're gonna issue one, I'm gonna issue one because that Thursday night performance was among the worst I've ever seen.
- 41:59SPEAKER_00: He made Michael Penix look like a world beater.
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: Bijan Robinson is probably the best running back in the NFL.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but he they they couldn't even think of containing him.
- 42:09SPEAKER_01: Sean, the Falcons have two good offensive football players.
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: They combined for 400 yards in that game.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: Ran roughshot.
- 42:17SPEAKER_00: They ran rough shot.
- 42:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's inexcusable.
- 42:20SPEAKER_00: It's inexcusable.
- 42:21SPEAKER_00: And the offense for the Packers, a lot of things to like about the offense on paper.
- 42:25SPEAKER_00: Like Jordan Love looks the part a lot of times.
- 42:28SPEAKER_00: They're so out of sync, they're miserable.
- 42:30SPEAKER_00: They can't run the ball at all.
- 42:31SPEAKER_00: I know losing your running back hurts a little bit before the season, but also I'm not gonna feel too sorry for you because that wasn't an injury.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: And it shouldn't be that big of a deal.
- 42:40SPEAKER_00: It shouldn't be that it's this bad through three weeks.
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: Listen, was Jordan Love pressured 30 times in the game?
- 42:47SPEAKER_01: Who's to say?
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: You know, the offensive line's bad.
- 42:49SPEAKER_01: There's no doubt about that.
- 42:51SPEAKER_01: But uh the problems that my issue with LaFleur is that the problems aren't new, and each time that they have the success and get to the playoffs, they lose in the same fashion almost every time.
- 43:04SPEAKER_01: And a lot of it, I think, comes down to he gets outcoached in those big games.
- 43:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, you're right.
- 43:11SPEAKER_00: There's countless examples of him not being able to coach himself out of a cardboard box in the biggest moments.
- 43:16SPEAKER_00: Do you have anybody else?
- 43:18SPEAKER_01: Uh you go, and then I'll I'll decide if I want to toss another one out there.
- 43:21SPEAKER_00: I actually don't have any this week.
- 43:23SPEAKER_00: I I I always try to let the guests bring some to me.
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: I then either join in or I kind of am the voice of reason in the final say.
- 43:31SPEAKER_00: But I guess if I had to dig deep, I I could I could give you one.
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: And this is probably a reach because by all accounts, he is a great coach, and that's all I hear about.
- 43:40SPEAKER_00: But I'm gonna go to the college ranks and I'm gonna talk about Jeff Brahm.
- 43:43SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: It was the most it was the most Jeff Brahm like stretch of football.
- 43:49SPEAKER_00: Do you thought Louisville hired uh uh like Nick Saban back from retirement?
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: When he was hired, it was Oh my god, we're so back, Louisville football the prodigal son.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't know.
- 44:01SPEAKER_00: I I just don't know about Jeff Brom.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: He was at Purdue, you know, he's fine.
- 44:05SPEAKER_00: He's at Purdue, though.
- 44:06SPEAKER_00: Like, what do we he's a good coach, maybe?
- 44:09SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 44:09SPEAKER_00: I would like to issue a warning, you can't lose at home to Wake Forest, even if they're frisky as a team with the expectations that Louisville had.
- 44:15SPEAKER_00: That deserves a strike.
- 44:17SPEAKER_01: I'm with you, buddy.
- 44:18SPEAKER_01: I I it's definitely strike worthy.
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: It's definitely worth monitoring.
- 44:22SPEAKER_00: Yes, that's what the first strike is.
- 44:24SPEAKER_00: Second strike is like, okay, you're on probation.
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: Basically, one more error and you're in.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: And oh God, Jeff, can I indulge you?
- 44:30SPEAKER_00: I have some notes from the field.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: I was watching all these games today and I just wrote down a couple notes.
- 44:34SPEAKER_00: I want to bounce them off you and see what you think.
- 44:36SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 44:36SPEAKER_01: Hit me.
- 44:37SPEAKER_00: We're gonna stay with the theme of bad.
- 44:40SPEAKER_00: The alternate jersey idea that we rolled out this weekend for the Colts and the Bills, cancel it.
- 44:45SPEAKER_00: Don't need to see the other teams.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: We are done with those.
- 44:48SPEAKER_00: Never want to see anything like that again.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: They are a disaster.
- 44:51SPEAKER_01: I am a firm believer that if you dress stupid, you play stupid, and the Bills won, but they didn't look good today, and it's because they were wearing those ugly ass uniforms.
- 45:02SPEAKER_00: They did, they did.
- 45:03SPEAKER_00: But they here's how you know it was bad.
- 45:05SPEAKER_00: They out they were more stupid than the Chargers because of those uniforms.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: And that's hard to do.
- 45:11SPEAKER_00: The Chargers are the team when you think of dumb.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: That's what you think of.
- 45:15SPEAKER_00: They somehow were worse to start the game.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: Josh Allen eventually did Josh Allen and they won, but that's a good point.
- 45:20SPEAKER_00: Next up, Darnell Washington is a top five most electrifying player with the ball in his hands in the league.
- 45:28SPEAKER_00: I honestly think it goes Bijan, Jameer Gibbs, maybe JSN, Darnell Washington.
- 45:34SPEAKER_00: He's an absolute locomotive, Jeff.
- 45:36SPEAKER_00: I can't get enough.
- 45:37SPEAKER_00: And anytime he touches, he puts a guy through the earth.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he caught that ball in the in the flat on the right sideline, and it just looked like he was running through he was running through Oz with the you know the the little folks chasing after him, bouncing this way, bouncing that way.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: He's hilarious.
- 45:56SPEAKER_01: I mean he's 320 pounds, and he's just chugging up the field with the ball in his hands.
- 46:00SPEAKER_00: I ain't getting in that guy's way.
- 46:02SPEAKER_00: No, and he's listed like 265.
- 46:04SPEAKER_00: He was on the uh St.
- 46:05SPEAKER_00: Brown Brothers podcast, maybe it was last year, and they asked him what he really weighed, and he said 315, 320.
- 46:10SPEAKER_00: And Almond Rog goes, Oh, so you're Penny Soul.
- 46:15SPEAKER_00: He's just running amok as a tight end.
- 46:17SPEAKER_00: It's great to see.
- 46:18SPEAKER_00: Uh, this is a weekly reminder that Michael Blum is a bad guy for talking me into the Cam Ward experience last year on this program.
- 46:24SPEAKER_00: He's a tight bad he's a Titans fan, so I give him a little bit of a pass.
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: He said it quote, there was encouraging signs.
- 46:31SPEAKER_00: I took that into the offseason.
- 46:32SPEAKER_00: I built a franchise dynasty team around him and Carnell Tate.
- 46:36SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you this, I've never regretted anything more.
- 46:38SPEAKER_00: The Titans are historically bad.
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: And here's how you know you have a bad quarterback on your hands.
- 46:45SPEAKER_00: They are celebrating that he went like 170 passes without an interception.
- 46:49SPEAKER_00: Whenever that's a fucking graphic, that's a problem.
- 46:51SPEAKER_00: And what did he do?
- 46:53SPEAKER_00: He threw an interception to end the game in the end zone.
- 46:57SPEAKER_00: Of course that was in the script.
- 46:59SPEAKER_00: I have a rule rule now.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: If there's a graphic that goes up 170 passes without an interception, the guy stinks because they they're spending their time thinking, okay, what statistic can we cook up for this guy that makes him look good?
- 47:09SPEAKER_00: Oh, he hasn't thrown a bad ball in 170.
- 47:12SPEAKER_00: Well, he hasn't thrown a good one either.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: He throws four yards downfield.
- 47:16SPEAKER_00: You know who they did that for as a sophomore?
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: Who?
- 47:19SPEAKER_00: Drew Aller.
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: Oh, don't say that.
- 47:21SPEAKER_00: He's the future.
- 47:22SPEAKER_00: He's the future.
- 47:23SPEAKER_00: I'm all in on Drew now.
- 47:24SPEAKER_00: Another one.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: The Titans, by the way, had uh 16 yards on their first 12 plays of the game today.
- 47:29SPEAKER_00: It's so bad.
- 47:30SPEAKER_00: I checked the stats.
- 47:31SPEAKER_00: I want to say after the first quarter, he had six passing yards.
- 47:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's not good.
- 47:37SPEAKER_00: It doesn't look good.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: No.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: He had that play where he was loafing back today and then got, you know, got yelled at good and proper.
- 47:44SPEAKER_00: And then he did.
- 47:45SPEAKER_00: He he threw one touchdown pass to Wandale and he did the elephant trunk celebration.
- 47:50SPEAKER_00: I wanted to kill him.
- 47:51SPEAKER_00: You you toss that ball to the ref and you get back on the sidelines and learn watch some tape because you stink.
- 47:56SPEAKER_00: I'll talk about a former Titan.
- 47:58SPEAKER_00: Malik Willis, uh Jeff, your guy.
- 48:01SPEAKER_00: I don't think he's been bad.
- 48:02SPEAKER_00: I think he's a fine player.
- 48:03SPEAKER_00: He's fine.
- 48:04SPEAKER_00: Can I tell you this though?
- 48:05SPEAKER_00: He threw 15.
- 48:06SPEAKER_00: I'm playing against him in a two-QB fantasy.
- 48:08SPEAKER_00: He threw 15 interceptions today.
- 48:09SPEAKER_00: Now I don't know if one stood.
- 48:11SPEAKER_00: Every time I looked up, the ball was in the Chiefs' hands.
- 48:13SPEAKER_00: Bat and around every he did, I don't think he had an interception, actually.
- 48:17SPEAKER_00: But they they they were dropping them, they were tipping them, they were doing every anything but catching them.
- 48:22SPEAKER_00: So I just that was a note from the field.
- 48:24SPEAKER_00: Also, 405 games.
- 48:25SPEAKER_00: We not we cannot be kicking off at 405.
- 48:28SPEAKER_00: We're in the middle of witching hours.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: The games, the games are never over.
- 48:31SPEAKER_00: Never at one o'clock at 4.05.
- 48:33SPEAKER_00: Never.
- 48:34SPEAKER_00: In fact, they're at their pinnacle.
- 48:36SPEAKER_00: We had a sequence on the red zone today where it was like, oh my god, we are blackout drunk for a 10-minute stretch here.
- 48:41SPEAKER_00: And they were like, and then here's the opening kickoff.
- 48:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:44SPEAKER_00: Next thing you know, McCaffrey has the ball.
- 48:46SPEAKER_00: It's like, what?
- 48:46SPEAKER_00: I I didn't, I I didn't think that game was happening yet.
- 48:49SPEAKER_00: So I'm out on those.
- 48:50SPEAKER_00: And then I always like to mention a player I've never heard of before in my life.
- 48:54SPEAKER_00: Shout out Carson Daly and Ted Hurst.
- 48:57SPEAKER_00: Ted Hurst.
- 48:58SPEAKER_00: Ted Hurst, he's speedster, dude.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: Receiver for the Bucks.
- 49:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he caught a touchdown today.
- 49:03SPEAKER_00: Good job by him.
- 49:04SPEAKER_00: The Bucks are bad though.
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: They like him.
- 49:07SPEAKER_01: He can fly.
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: The Baker, the Baker extension could be in the uh in the bad contract club.
- 49:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, also because I don't think he's gonna exist as a human with the amount that he runs around and gets hit.
- 49:20SPEAKER_00: He just he's beaten.
- 49:21SPEAKER_00: Every time you pick your head up, Baker is peeling himself off the turf.
- 49:25SPEAKER_00: And Todd Bowles, he I I we might actually he might be inducted to the bad coaches club.
- 49:30SPEAKER_00: He's had two strikes now.
- 49:31SPEAKER_00: He's a temple guy, so I hate doing it.
- 49:33SPEAKER_00: I don't want to do it.
- 49:34SPEAKER_00: I've been resistant, but it might have to happen.
- 49:37SPEAKER_00: Anything else, Jeff, from the NFL?
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: The best play I saw the day was the in a losing effort was the T.
- 49:44SPEAKER_01: Higgins touchdown catch.
- 49:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, guys just pulled to the ground on his butt, tipping the ball up to himself while he's laying in the end zone, and then just having the hand strength to just hold it up while he's turning over.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: It was really impressive.
- 49:56SPEAKER_01: That was a good football player.
- 49:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's really good.
- 49:59SPEAKER_00: And they both him and Jamar took their turns abusing Asante Samuel Jr.
- 50:04SPEAKER_00: today.
- 50:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but then credit to Derek Armin for closing out the game.
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: I have no idea what's going through Joe Burrow's head as he tries to escape there, pulling the ball up.
- 50:12SPEAKER_01: What are you gonna do with it?
- 50:14SPEAKER_00: Joe Burrow was a meticulous surgeon for almost that entire football game.
- 50:18SPEAKER_00: It was like, okay, there's vintage, bro.
- 50:19SPEAKER_00: The Bengals are legit.
- 50:21SPEAKER_00: And then the boneheaded error he makes to ultimately cost him.
- 50:24SPEAKER_00: I was certain as a Steelers fan that he they were going down and scoring a touchdown on that drive.
- 50:27SPEAKER_01: They were in field goal range already.
- 50:29SPEAKER_01: There's just like, take your lump there.
- 50:31SPEAKER_01: You weren't completely out of the sack.
- 50:33SPEAKER_01: He still had his arms around the legs, and he starts pulling the ball up, and it's just it never ends well there.
- 50:38SPEAKER_00: No, that was a bone-headed move from a guy who usually doesn't make many mistakes like that.
- 50:42SPEAKER_00: So a phenomenal NFL Sunday as usual.
- 50:46SPEAKER_00: We could get into our another segment that seems to be weekly is why do we play every game at one o'clock?
- 50:51SPEAKER_00: We had nine one o'clock games today.
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: What are we doing?
- 50:53SPEAKER_00: But that's uh we could do that every week.
- 50:55SPEAKER_00: So we'll shift our focus to baseball, Jeff.
- 50:59SPEAKER_00: And we mentioned at the top of the show, but the Philadelphia fight in Phillies are playoff bound.
- 51:05SPEAKER_00: Said, put word out, we're back up now.
- 51:08SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna ask you, I don't really love our path.
- 51:12SPEAKER_00: I don't love at Atlanta, at LA, but we're in.
- 51:16SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 51:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, listen, I will never, as pessimistic and grumpy as I can be about the teams I root for, I will never be a fan who's like, I hope they don't make the playoffs.
- 51:26SPEAKER_01: That's just why are you why are you bothering being a fan?
- 51:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we played a hundred and whatever.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: I watch 130 Phillies games a year.
- 51:34SPEAKER_01: I'm not doing that to root for them to miss the playoffs just because they had the worst month of September I've ever seen.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: So first, first and foremost, thrilled we're in.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: Finally, for the first time in a month, had some had some guys show up to take it today.
- 51:49SPEAKER_01: Bryson Stott was excellent in today's game.
- 51:51SPEAKER_01: JT Real Muto snapped his 0 for 275 streak.
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: I think the stat was coming into today.
- 51:57SPEAKER_01: His last hit was before the Eagles started playing football in 2026.
- 52:01SPEAKER_01: Uh, so that was a problem, and it will continue to be a problem, but good for him for snapping out of it.
- 52:07SPEAKER_01: Uh Bryce Bryce hits a homer when it really didn't matter, though.
- 52:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 52:12SPEAKER_01: It did prove it did prove to to help as as things got a little dice here with you know two homers giving up to Mr.
- 52:20SPEAKER_01: DeLuca.
- 52:21SPEAKER_01: Uh, but hey, the Phillies are in.
- 52:23SPEAKER_01: It's not gonna be easy, but we we've seen, you know, a couple of years here where the NL East has had the wildcard matchup, and the team that is not the home team has won that series multiple times over the last few years, including when the Phillies did it uh in 20, was it 22 or 23 that they won on the road in the wild card to start the run?
- 52:44SPEAKER_00: I think it was 22 because everybody keeps saying there's a lot of shades of 2022 in this team.
- 52:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, I don't know that scene either.
- 52:53SPEAKER_00: But I'm optimistic.
- 52:54SPEAKER_00: I am.
- 52:55SPEAKER_00: I I honestly think we'll go to Atlanta, we'll give them hell.
- 52:57SPEAKER_00: That's what my prediction is.
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: Here's the best.
- 52:59SPEAKER_01: I don't know who's gonna get the pit who's gonna get the the Braves out, but we'll see.
- 53:03SPEAKER_00: I'm starting game two.
- 53:04SPEAKER_00: I'm actually on the I'm on the bump game two.
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: And good thing for me, I could pitch, ask, ask one of your close family members, Mr.
- 53:11SPEAKER_00: Ultra.
- 53:11SPEAKER_00: I could pitch one day rest, two day rest, doesn't matter.
- 53:14SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna give you 75 down the middle, very hittable on any amount of rest.
- 53:19SPEAKER_01: Get you out there and get some outs, buddy.
- 53:21SPEAKER_01: We need it now.
- 53:23SPEAKER_00: The rest of the matchups are set, Jeff.
- 53:25SPEAKER_00: You're by far a much bigger baseball man than me.
- 53:28SPEAKER_00: Uh I have gotten more into it, as you know, the last few years, but I'm really very Phillies-based.
- 53:33SPEAKER_00: I don't watch a ton outside of the Phillies or keep up a ton outside of the Phillies.
- 53:36SPEAKER_00: There are a couple teams I do root for a little bit outside of Philadelphia.
- 53:41SPEAKER_00: And I'm they're in the playoffs as well.
- 53:42SPEAKER_00: I'm interested to see if you're gonna say these as the answer to this question.
- 53:45SPEAKER_00: But what matchup outside of the Phillies are you most looking forward to watching?
- 53:48SPEAKER_00: And let me add, uh you don't need to really if you're a neutral fan, you won't be seeing the Phillies series.
- 53:54SPEAKER_00: They start at 2 p.m.
- 53:55SPEAKER_00: each day.
- 53:56SPEAKER_00: What are we doing, Mr.
- 53:57SPEAKER_00: Manfred?
- 53:58SPEAKER_00: What is this?
- 53:59SPEAKER_00: 2 p.m.
- 54:00SPEAKER_00: during the week.
- 54:01SPEAKER_00: Uh we play one how do we play 182 or 162?
- 54:04SPEAKER_01: 162.
- 54:05SPEAKER_00: 162 at 640 at night, and then the biggest three of the season are happening in the middle of the damn day.
- 54:13SPEAKER_00: What I cannot b I could not believe what I was hearing when that came across my desk today.
- 54:17SPEAKER_01: Hey, listen, somebody's gotta play during the day.
- 54:19SPEAKER_01: It just happens to be us.
- 54:21SPEAKER_01: Don't tell your bosses.
- 54:23SPEAKER_00: You have my permission to watch.
- 54:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, counterpoint.
- 54:26SPEAKER_00: We don't have to play during the day.
- 54:27SPEAKER_00: We could play them at 440.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: Gotta spread out the wildcard games, baby.
- 54:32SPEAKER_01: We got those days where they play all four, and it's just boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
- 54:36SPEAKER_00: Well, what about the page out of Mr.
- 54:38SPEAKER_00: Goodell's playbook where you just play every game at the same time?
- 54:40SPEAKER_00: These commissioners just Yeah, well then we'd be playing at one o'clock.
- 54:43SPEAKER_00: And I'd be bitching.
- 54:44SPEAKER_00: So I'd be bitching that way too.
- 54:46SPEAKER_00: But what seriously, what other matchups are you looking forward to?
- 54:49SPEAKER_01: Uh it pains me deeply because I wouldn't say I'm looking forward to it, but Yankees Red Sox is the best matchup of the bunch.
- 54:54SPEAKER_01: Um, history aside, just the the two way, the ways those two fan bases feel about their clubs currently couldn't be more opposite.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: The Red Sox are riding the high of a fired manager, just like the Phillies had earlier in the year.
- 55:10SPEAKER_01: They go on this tremendous run where they were, for a stretch of the year, the best or second best team in baseball.
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: And now you're coming in to take on your rival whose ass you generally kick in the playoffs.
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: So I'm looking forward to it from that sense because I think that the the matchup is a lot of fun, though Aaron Judge not being there just gives a lot less ammo for the Red Sox fans to do the oh, this guy isn't clutch.
- 55:35SPEAKER_01: He struck out in the eighth inning again.
- 55:36SPEAKER_01: Who cares if he hit three home runs in the first three innings?
- 55:39SPEAKER_01: We got him in the eighth.
- 55:41SPEAKER_01: But I'm not looking forward to the fact that every Red Sox Yankees game, despite the pitch clock, takes four and a half hours.
- 55:47SPEAKER_01: But otherwise, it's the most intriguing matchup.
- 55:50SPEAKER_01: And and the reason I say that over Padres Cubs is because the Padres pitching is dreadful.
- 55:57SPEAKER_01: I have no idea how they're not they're probably not gonna have a guy pitch more than four innings in that entire series.
- 56:03SPEAKER_01: Maybe Michael King goes five in the game that he starts, but they're just gonna be piggybacking, looking for matchups, getting guys through two innings and saying thanks for coming out.
- 56:14SPEAKER_01: They traded for Casey Mys at the deadline to try to fix some of that.
- 56:18SPEAKER_01: He has been dreadful as a Padre and got shelled the other night as we were watching Arizona inch even closer to that playoff bid that they tried to steal from us.
- 56:27SPEAKER_01: So I'm a little I don't love the Cubs pitching either.
- 56:31SPEAKER_01: So I'm a little I'm I'm intrigued by that matchup, but I think it's a fun matchup, but I think the Red Sox Yankees series will be the best.
- 56:37SPEAKER_01: And to be quite frank, I don't know how much time I'm gonna spend watching Astros White Sox.
- 56:42SPEAKER_01: White Sox are a great story.
- 56:43SPEAKER_01: Muni Murakami is indeed Japanese, like he told us after that win the other night when they were spraying the champagne.
- 56:50SPEAKER_01: Uh but the Astros just won the division with 81 wins or or whatever it was, you know, that the ALS was abhorrent this year.
- 56:59SPEAKER_01: So I yeah.
- 57:01SPEAKER_01: They're pr and they're probably gonna be heavily favored to win that series, too, which is you know why I'm not as intrigued by it.
- 57:08SPEAKER_00: I will ask you a quick question about an individual before we get to just a broader scope of each of these leagues.
- 57:14SPEAKER_00: Which guy that maybe isn't a household name is going to be must watch this postseason?
- 57:19SPEAKER_00: What one do you think is gonna have a big postseason?
- 57:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I put a couple down and and I wasn't sure what direction to go with this because I'm trying to remove myself from it.
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: Where I even if I don't watch every game, I see I read the box score every night and I know who these guys are and I watch the highlights.
- 57:36SPEAKER_01: But in the NL side with your with your Brewers, I think a lot of people who follow prospects certainly know who he is.
- 57:43SPEAKER_01: But being in the Milwaukee market, this is a big chance for Jackson Churillo to really break out as a national star.
- 57:50SPEAKER_01: He hit 25 homers this year, despite missing some time with injury.
- 57:54SPEAKER_01: He's a really dynamic outfielder that can run.
- 57:57SPEAKER_01: He can hit for average and hit for power.
- 57:59SPEAKER_01: Uh, so I'll be really interested to see if he can lead that Brewer offense uh in the playoffs.
- 58:05SPEAKER_01: And then on the on the AL side, I had a couple of guys that are that are interesting.
- 58:10SPEAKER_01: Uh Chase DeLoder had a really good rookie season for the Guardians, and I'm certain a lot of people who just kind of casually follow baseball have no idea who that is.
- 58:19SPEAKER_01: He'll probably finish third or so in the AL Rookie of the Year voting.
- 58:23SPEAKER_01: Uh and then Peyton Tolley's just a really fun player and a fun story, uh a left-handed pitcher for the Red Sox, a super unique guy.
- 58:32SPEAKER_01: And if he gets a chance to show his stuff against the Yankees, uh could be another guy that that kind of breaks out more nationally.
- 58:39SPEAKER_00: That's a great answer by you because I am somebody who knows those three names.
- 58:43SPEAKER_00: I've seen them in box scores, but I do not know anything about the guys and how they play or anything.
- 58:47SPEAKER_00: So I will be keeping an eye on as I watch some of these series because I am interested very much so in the Yankees Red Sox series, but also I'm also interested in the Cubs.
- 58:55SPEAKER_00: I have a soft spot for the Cubs.
- 58:57SPEAKER_00: Pika Armstrong is electric.
- 58:58SPEAKER_00: I love the fans, I think Wrigley's really cool.
- 59:00SPEAKER_00: So I think if I had to pick a team outside the Phillies to make a run, I would go with the Cubbies.
- 59:06SPEAKER_00: I like that they're facing the Brewers because that creates some intrigue because the Brewers are that dominant regular season team, and they were great last year as well, but then they folded like a cheap suit in the postseason, and they're kind of built in a similar fashion.
- 59:18SPEAKER_00: We'll see if it's a team that's built to win the postseason.
- 59:22SPEAKER_00: I guess that's how I'll start.
- 59:23SPEAKER_00: We'll start with the NL.
- 59:24SPEAKER_00: Are you buying into the Brewers' regular season success, or do you ultimately net out that the Dodgers are still the team to beat?
- 59:30SPEAKER_01: So I buy into the success as to what they have built and what they are able to do on a nightly basis.
- 59:37SPEAKER_01: As far as the postseason goes, I'm really worried about their rotation and how they're going to manage that.
- 59:43SPEAKER_01: You have a lot of guys who are young in their big league careers who had really good years, but have either reached or are rapidly approaching their career highs in innings.
- 59:53SPEAKER_01: You've already seen it with a guy who had a great year in Kyle Harrison, who has significantly slowed down and they've even really started to use in a multi-inning relief role down the stretch.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_01: Uh Logan Henderson's another young guy who had a really good year for them on the mound, who's, you know, kind of blowing by his career high in innings pitched.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_01: At this point, you're obviously riding the wave of Miz, but he's thrown 170 innings this year, and he's never thrown 170 innings before.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_01: So it's just a matter, I think, with him of are you getting six out of him or are you getting into the fifth and then having to pull them if he starts to lose the command a little bit?
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_01: So uh that worries me.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_01: The Dodgers have obviously done it, been there, done that.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_01: They have a lot more experienced guys that just haven't been as healthy.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_01: Uh so I think it's really a toss-up, but I I'm you know, I'm a little afraid to just not lean Dodgers in that in the who should be the favorite conversation.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_00: That's what I would say as well.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_00: And I know very little about both teams in terms of like I would not know as much of a fan of those teams would know, but it just seems like the Brewers, until they do it in all of sports, until that team that's a good story and has had good regular season success, until they do it in the postseason once, it's hard to buy in, especially when the established product is still there and they're still lingering.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_00: And I'm not saying it can't be done.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_00: I just want to see it once first before I predict it to happen.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_00: So I'm with you there.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_00: The American League seems much more wide open to me.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_00: I feel like it could go a plenty of different directions.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_00: Where do you see it going?
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_01: I think the Rays are the best position team, but I honestly think it'll be an AL East team.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_01: Obviously, that matchup moves on to play the Rays.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_01: Whoever wins that DS series would would be my pick no matter who gets through on the top side of the bracket.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_01: I think the Rays, the Rays have 10 guys that they could put on the mound for three or four innings, and I think they're just gonna cycle through those guys and be more than happy to get what they can out of you know, out of the Nick Martinez's and the Drew Rasmussen's, and then being able to bring in guys who have pitched a ton of innings in those sort of piggyback roles, like any Seymour.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_01: And then they have this kid, Victor Mesa, 25-year-old.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_01: He's kind of like a post-hype prospect who has just absolutely blown up uh in September for them.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_01: That I'm really interested to see if he can be a factor for them in an already deep lineup that has a 40 homer guy and junior Camonero, and has probably, in my opinion, the best mix of contact and power in baseball.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_01: And Yandy Diaz, a guy that consistently hits 290 plus with 20 plus homers and just is able to give you uh that three-run homer at a crucial moment, but is just also always on base and hitting line drives into the gaps.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_01: Uh, but Mesa in September hit 355 with a 605 slug and 76 at bats, uh, and is an explosive player.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_01: He has good wheels.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_01: He stole three bases in the month.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, I'm interested to see if in his first real exposure to the postseason, if he can continue that hot stretch.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_00: That's that's a those are better numbers than the three through six hitters in the Phillies lineup combined.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, in September.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's yeah, that's pretty good.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_00: The Rays are interesting, Jeff, because I don't know much about them, and I think that's intentional in how they build and how they set up their teams.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_00: It's also kind of frustrating.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_00: I hate to sound, we're gonna go back to the beginning of the episode, I hate to sound like the old man on the lawn.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_00: Game's gone a little bit for me.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_00: I like a guy getting the ball, being the starting pitcher, going seven innings in a big moment.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_00: And I the Rays have no, they have no desire to do that.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_01: Well, and they have done it more in the regular season with guys like Martinez and and Rasmussen, but I I'm certain that come next week, I think they would play next Saturday with the bye.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_01: Come next weekend, if they don't like what they see in the top of the fourth inning, they're going to a new arm, and they won't they won't care an inch about it.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_00: And honestly, that's analytically, that's probably the correct move.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_00: That's why they're so good and they maximize their chances by doing things like that.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_00: It's just frustrating for a neutral.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's just something like that.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_01: Well, you're I you're gonna be frustrated, I think, by the Phillies outside of the Christopher Sanchez game.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but the Phillies, it's not by choice.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_00: If we could give it to all if we could give it to a wheels, we would.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_00: He just we've we've asked the dog to do something for us one too many times.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_00: He's an old dog.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_00: Somebody had to get us there.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_00: But I if we if you need him on Thursday, he'll be there.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_00: Maybe.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_00: You know, I know, not maybe.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_00: I know my guy.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_00: If you need Zach Wheeler, he answers the call.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_00: That's what he does.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_00: I will I I was unaware of the build of the Rays and how they set up, but I do like your point about the ALE's team.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_00: If you just look at those other teams in the AL, none of them really strike fear.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_00: A lot of them had mediocre seasons and were in a bad division or got in through a weak wild card.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_00: So I'm with you on the A least.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_00: I'll go ahead and say I think it's gonna be the Red Sox who win that series against Yankees and then just take that momentum into a win against the Rays and get hot.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_00: And then I think we would both like their chances against whoever they face.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_00: 100%.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_00: So I'm excited for playoff baseball.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_00: There's a chance we're not so excited just a few days from now, and the next time I speak with you, it might not be the case, but for now, let's live in the optimism.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_00: Uh also a minor victory.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_00: I know might not have been at the forefront of our attention today, but Jeff, you're an American golf lover.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_00: You're an American.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_00: I I don't know that I'm a lover, but but I am a rooter.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_00: You're more so than I, who hates the American golf team.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_00: I was rooting against them not as hard as my Europe's, my my Ryder Cup European team.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_00: That's where I really my heart lies.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_00: But this is the B team we sent out this week, and we gave it our best shot, but we felt just shy of pulling off the upset on home soil for the Americans.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_00: What were your thoughts on Sunday at the Ryder Cup?
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_00: The Americans once again got dominated in the team section, but because they're just better golfers, we're able to return the favor and dominate on Sunday.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it it makes sense, but it also doesn't.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_01: Like they put the twelve, you know, they put everybody out for singles today, and you looked at the matchups and you're like, there's no way that they don't, you know, that they don't secure this victory.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_01: This comeback victory.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_01: Then you then you tell them, hey, you two are playing together, and they're like, What's golf?
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_01: I never heard of it.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_00: I hate the idea of playing with somebody else.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_00: That's it's awful.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_01: I have to hit somebody else's ball.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_01: No, thank you.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_01: Uh it's just a lack of buy-in.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_01: They're all playing their own game.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_01: They're all, you know, they're not changing their preparation for these tournaments.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_01: And I think that's very clear.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_01: And I think that's the thing that has that has plagued Scotty the most in these events is he prepares probably more meticulously than any other golfer all year long.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_01: And then he gets to these events and is like, I'm not going to change that to then hurt myself down the road.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_01: So I'm going to prepare in the exact same meticulous way.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_01: And then you're going to tell me to go hit Sam Burns' ball, and I'm going to say no, thank you.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_01: Here's 35 feet for Birdie, Sam.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_00: It is really gross how poor the Americans are consistently in both the Ryder Cup and the Presence Cup at specifically foursoms, which is alternate channel.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_01: He's always been a good team golf player, and especially at the President's Cup.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_01: And then Cam Young was, you know, over the last two years or so, no worse than the fifth or sixth best player in the world.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_01: And for those two to get shit pumped by Adam Scott and Christian Bazwaiden, who was hopefully a real wake-up call for guys were clearly doing something wrong.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_00: Jeff, I think what's happening is you guys are starting to buy into my model, which is I want guys who are motherfuckers on that America team.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_00: And it's why I started hating them, was because we kept filling it with guys that I hated and they hated playing in these team events.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_00: They couldn't be bothered.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_00: And it was years of this.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, why does no one else care?
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_00: And that's why I was like, you know what?
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_00: I'm going to root for the team that, you know what?
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_00: I just like these guys more.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_00: They just seem like more enjoyable people.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_00: Maybe I'm wrong.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_00: I'm not friends with them.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_00: But they they adapt to that team, they buy in, they grow up wanting to win rider cups almost equally to wanting to win golf tournaments by themselves.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_00: I'm sure majors are a different conversation for all of them.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_00: But Europeans would rather win a rider cup than a PGA tour event.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_00: That's what it means for those guys.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_00: There's not a single guy on the American team aside from a Justin Thomas, who, like you mentioned, isn't really the best golfer on the team, but he has the best American record in recent history because of the fact he lives and breathes for these team events.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_01: A true patriot.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I you could yeah, you could talk me into that.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_00: I Justin Thomas, a true patriot.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_00: That should be his epitaph.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_00: That should be his epitaph.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_00: He honestly it's it's he I really do like JT in these.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_00: He inspires something in the room, he says it outwardly.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_00: I think he's the MVP and the reason the US are able to get these done and bring guys like Jackson Coyvin under his wing.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_00: There's a reason Jackson Coyovan played with him this week.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_00: And Coyovan was a dog today down the stretch.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_00: He clubed world with some fucking zestiness to it, just like JT would in that situation.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_01: Then I I think it was on, I want to say it was on 15.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_01: He knocked in like a 12-footer for Birdie, and then Siwoo just missed uh a baby five-footer, probably had some more break to it than I'm giving credit for, but Jackson wins the hole, goes two two up, and you just knew at that point the international team was dead.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_00: Dead, yeah.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_00: That was the nail in the coffin.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_00: I I really think Coyvon should be a storyline that emerges from this.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_00: That's a bright prospect for the future of these events and just golf in general.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_00: Justin Thomas continuing to find a way, he was very good again in the singles, passionate, and just sending him out, you just know you just have come to expect a point at this point.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_01: I'll tell you what, you would have had a better chance if Corey Connors took you around to putt for him against Justin Thomas than him putting his own ball.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_01: I'll tell you that for free.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_00: Little Corey Connors.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_00: LPGA Tempo can't putt, cannot putt.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_00: And the internationals, they they shriveled up like raisins today.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_00: They reverted back to the law of averages.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_00: The law of averages stated, hey, the Americans are much better at golf as a group.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_00: Man for man, they're much more talented, they're consistently better golfers.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_00: Now you threw in the team element and caught it by surprise and you won that margin, but you needed to build up a bigger lead than the one they had in order to hold them off in singles.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_00: They weren't able to do it.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_00: So credit to the Americans.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_00: It's good to pick up a win heading into the Ryder Cup next year away from.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_01: Is it?
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_01: Isn't this just gonna convince them that they were doing it right and that Brant Snedeker had the answers?
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_01: Because I I honestly think if if if you picked any mule on tour, the 275th ranked player, and made him the captain, they would have won by more points than with what Snedeker's uh you know mindset for this event was.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_01: He is adamant that putting Scotty Scheffler out first so that they can just nuke it with Nico Echeveria was a good plan.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_00: There was a couple moments from Brand Snedeker that were laugh out loud funny.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_00: When he was asked who he was sending out in the afternoon, and he had no clue who the pairing he put forward was, he had no clue who was playing with Cam Young.
- 1:11:05SPEAKER_00: He needed the reporter to fill him in.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_00: And he was like, uh, oh yes, thank you so much.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_00: I forgot.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_00: It's like, hey, dude, you just announced that like eight minutes ago.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_00: Uh I think you should have had that planned for probably a year as like as the captain, you should have had that shit like memorized for a long time.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_00: And only pivoted case like of emergency.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_01: And he told him five minutes before that that was the uh that was the pairing.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so talent alone got the US through.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_00: I think it sets up an intriguing rider cup next year.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_00: They need to win one of them.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_00: It won't be next year at their manner.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_00: I would say that.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_01: Wouldn't say I'm optimistic.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_00: Jeff, as we wrap up, we have one final segment.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_00: It is the Tortured Fans of the Week.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_00: I would love to hear what you have in store for me.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_01: Well, it was me.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_01: Uh, and then the Phillies pulled me out a little bit.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, but it's Penn State Football fans.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_01: Jeff Shizeski himself.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_01: It's Penn State football fans.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, it you got you have all of the stadium kerfuffle going on with the prices are rising, there's less people in the stands, the environment isn't what it used to be, isn't what it you know it was a very short amount of time ago.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_01: You have a coach who you brought in as your fifth choice, who again, I admittedly said I think is a good football coach, but this is a different level uh of expectation than he certainly had at Iowa State.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_01: You go in to a home game at homecoming, a five o'clock start, perfect weather, you're up 17-0, and you can't do anything offensively against the Sconneys, and then you let Colton Joseph, who had one of the worst winning performances I've ever seen, then torture you for a 75-yard touchdown to lose the game.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_01: Rocco Bex was bad.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_01: The the not a single wide receiver with Kobe Howard out had a chance at making a contested catch.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_01: Uh, and and things were bleak yesterday in in this household with the the Phillies losing 12 to 1, Penn State down.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_01: Thank God for the Padres for even keeping me in position for today to matter.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be an interesting.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_01: Listen, I did not expect the world in year one of Matt Campbell at Penn State, but I did not expect uh a 17-0 blown lead against a team that just looked absolutely punchless in the Wisconsin Badgers.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_00: Jeff, it's funny.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_00: I I had a feeling you might go with Penn State.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_00: So I came up with a backup plan because a little tease.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_00: Penn State's involved in my torture fans of the week as well.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_00: I am gonna go with just a separate one just so the listeners don't think we're being too locally biased.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say just the New York football fans.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_00: These guys, the Giants, you have some optimism with Jackson Darr, dead.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_00: Brian Burns, great defensive player, dead.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_00: It looked like Malik Neighbors was gonna be dead too.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_00: He avoided serious injury, but the season's over when Jackson Darr goes down.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_00: That's tough.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_00: I know they get a win today, but you played an AFL team.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_00: I think I mean the old Brian Dable return revenge game.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_00: How is that gonna go?
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_00: That's a win every time.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_00: The Giants, the Jets also the Jets are frisky, but now it's a couple they've let go in in moments.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_00: Garrett Wilson might be hurt now.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_00: It's just never easy being a New York football fan.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_00: I do genuinely feel for them because uh they're not my cup of tea personally, the the typical, stereotypical Jets Giants fan.
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_00: But boy, they they do have a pretty rough existence.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_00: But my biggest uh losers this week are fans of Colts.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_00: And I was going to do Colts fans, fans of Colts, but the Colts did find a win.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_00: So I'm just gonna say Colts in general.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_00: The branch Dividians, you guys at State College, and those good folks down in college station.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_00: These people, Jeff, you're you're wumped right in with this, but there's very few things that matter to these people, often small-minded, a lot of them.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_00: Not all, a lot of them small minded, and it's God, it's country, and it's football.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_00: And in Aggie Land, it ain't football anymore.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_00: Marcel Reed has Marcel the Shell, baby.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_00: He he's stolen any ounce of joy they had or optimism for this season.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_00: It's gone.
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_00: They it's so funny to me when 110,000 people get together and lose.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_00: This one was on the road, but you know they'll be back next week, and that's why it's a cult, and it's a great cult.
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_00: And you guys have a good one too.
- 1:15:18SPEAKER_00: You hired another dodo who he just won't ever win the big one.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_00: I'll say it now.
- 1:15:23SPEAKER_00: I hope he gets extended and extended, extended.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_00: He'll never win the big one.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_00: He's a nice guy though, Matt Campbell.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_00: He's a very nice guy.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_01: He might not win the medium one the way that the way that we're we're looking offensively.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_00: It's it just it tickles me.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_00: It does because and and I'm not even saying I'd be different if I grew up a Penn State.
- 1:15:41SPEAKER_00: I would do the same thing.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_00: I'd be there in the tailgate, and I think each week we're gonna win.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_00: I do it with the Houston Texans who I have no affiliation to.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_00: So it's not even me living in a glass house throwing stones.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_00: It's just me laughing because I know if the situation was the same, I'd be in the same boat.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_00: But you guys are gonna show up next time that you guys are at home, and you're gonna have 108,000 people there, and you're gonna wear your white, and it's not gonna go well.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_01: And they're gonna pay it, and they're gonna pay the upcharge, and they're gonna buy the beer, and they're gonna buy the chicken tender basket.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_01: They added more seats to this day, they're gonna pay the 110 bucks that it is now for a parking pass.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_00: I I I hate to do this.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_00: I I do hate to do this to you.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_00: I think you're gonna miss Big Jimmy Franklin.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_00: I think you're gonna miss him.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_01: I d listen, there was there was a point on Saturday where you know both of both of the forefathers were were battling it out, and it looked like my guy Billy O'Brien was gonna pull off a victory over Jimmy Franklin, and I was ready to to bask in it.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_01: Uh, I still believe that that Beaver Stadium should be located at 15 Bill O'Brien Way for what that man did for the program.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:16:49SPEAKER_01: But listen, it'll it'll take a uh it'll take another year or so, but but people will start to to have the fond memories of the James Franklin era here pretty soon if uh if that's the offensive output that we're seeing on a weekly basis.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that that's tough.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_00: And I I don't mean to laugh too much.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_00: I I do enjoy when Petsy loses, of course, but I am happy for you that the Phillies won and kept your sanity about you because we needed you for this episode.
- 1:17:12SPEAKER_01: It it could have been tough.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_00: Could have been tough.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_00: We survived.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_00: See, we got a positive Jeff, so that's good news.
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_00: I think that'll do it, Jeff.
- 1:17:21SPEAKER_00: I enjoyed I enjoyed speaking on a variety of topics with you.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_00: You were well versed, you studied up, it was great, great effort out of you.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_01: I appreciate it.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_01: It's uh it's it's always a pleasure to be able to do this.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_00: Well, thank you.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_00: You are going to be on again soon.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, it's on a little bit of better terms.
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_00: Hopefully we get some Penn State wins for you.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_00: Hopefully the Phillies make a little bit of a run.
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_00: We've got a lot in store this week.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_00: The replay room is out, new podcast.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_00: It's kind of a spin-off from this channel.
- 1:17:48SPEAKER_00: We're just moving some of the pop culture, music, movie-related action over to that feed, trying to clear things up a little bit.
- 1:17:55SPEAKER_00: So this is going to be more sports focused.
- 1:17:57SPEAKER_00: Go like and subscribe.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_00: If you haven't liked, liked and subscribed here, please do that.
- 1:18:01SPEAKER_00: Of course, leave a comment, nice comment.
- 1:18:03SPEAKER_00: Pick Jeff up when he's down, tell him how good Penn State is.
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_00: I appreciate all of you tuning in.
- 1:18:08SPEAKER_00: And until next time, take care of the video.
