- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. If you hear Thunder in the
- 0:30background, it's because we're about to have a thunderstorm and
- 0:33the lightning is going off and it's dark and it's cool.
- 0:35And I just finished sitting on the porch doing my morning
- 0:39meditation. So I am recording it from here
- 0:42instead of the coop with the girls this morning because of
- 0:44the storm. OK, so I want to tell you a
- 0:47great story that happened yesterday.
- 0:50It's very hot here, very humid. It's been dry.
- 0:54We are still not at our normal levels of water.
- 0:57And I have water stations all over for animals.
- 1:02You know, I've got multiple spots the girls can go and get
- 1:05drinks during the day. I've got bird, three different
- 1:08bird feeders. I've got a butterfly water
- 1:12feeder, which is really just a saucer filled with these little
- 1:15round marbles so that they can come and land and then they can
- 1:19drink the water that's in there. So yesterday here I am, there's
- 1:25a spot between the garage and the house and it's we enter the
- 1:30back door there all the time. And I was out there and this big
- 1:35beautiful swallowtail butterfly. If you've never seen them, look
- 1:38them up. Swallowtail butterfly.
- 1:39It's they're like the size of my hand.
- 1:42They're yellow. They've got this crazy blue that
- 1:45comes out on them. They're just stunning.
- 1:47And I've got this whole farm covered in flowers that are, you
- 1:53know, pollinator food. So we attract a lot of
- 1:56pollinators. Typically this year it seems to
- 1:59be a little bit lower than normal.
- 2:01I'm not sure why, but maybe I'm just not seeing them.
- 2:04So I don't make a big deal out of that.
- 2:06I just keep planting. And the more you plant, the more
- 2:08that comes. But that's not the point of the
- 2:09story. The point of the story is that
- 2:12this big swallowtail butterfly is landing between the buildings
- 2:17and it's on the ground. And I walked by it.
- 2:20At first I saw it and I beat me being me.
- 2:23I said, oh, good morning. And I walked by it.
- 2:26And then I something made me stop and I turned around and I
- 2:30went back and I and it was on the ground and, and it was like
- 2:33crawling on the stones. And I was like, that's really
- 2:37interesting. And I paused and I said, why
- 2:39would that be doing that right there?
- 2:41And I realized that that's a track where the runoff comes off
- 2:45the roof when it rains. And it had rained earlier in the
- 2:49day, but a very like earlier in the morning.
- 2:52But it was a very short period of time.
- 2:54It wasn't anything that would do anything, nothing of substance,
- 2:58but there was probably more water in that soil there than
- 3:01anything. And I backed and I and I looked
- 3:04and I was like, Oh my gosh, she's thirsty.
- 3:07And I ran in the garage and I got a bucket and filled the
- 3:11bucket up with water. And about 3 feet from her, I
- 3:15started pouring the water into the stones because it's crushed
- 3:18bluestone right there and that along that way.
- 3:21And it's pretty packed down. So when you put water on it, it,
- 3:25it will sit there for a few minutes, but it's still under
- 3:27the stones. So she's like a little elevated,
- 3:30but there's water there. So I pour it and all of a sudden
- 3:34she starts flapping her wings but staying there and moving
- 3:37around and drinking. And I sat there and I watched
- 3:40her for a good 3 minutes and I'm not exaggerating.
- 3:45It was it was a good 3 minutes. I just sat there and watched her
- 3:49and thought to myself, how cool is this that she came to get
- 3:54water. I happened to be walking by.
- 3:58I'm air quoting that because that didn't happen.
- 4:00It was one of those things that was meant to be.
- 4:03I saw her. I didn't ignore it.
- 4:06I didn't just say good morning and walk by.
- 4:08I came back and I, I recognized there was something.
- 4:13I was curious because you guys know, I'm always saying
- 4:16curiosity is a superpower. And when I stopped, I got to
- 4:20actually see her drinking and at the when I was like after three
- 4:24minutes of just sitting there and just watching her and I
- 4:28didn't even try to photograph it because I wanted to be so
- 4:30present with the moment. I didn't go run and get a
- 4:33camera. I didn't pull out my phone.
- 4:35I just sat there and watched her.
- 4:37And the, the coolest experience for me was knowing that one, my
- 4:44personal belief is that, you know, she chose to come to this
- 4:47farm. So here I am knowing I'm, I'm a
- 4:50caretaker of this beautiful creature and truly believe that.
- 4:54And two, I didn't just rush by. I didn't go in such a place in
- 5:00such a way of my day that I rushed by and didn't notice her.
- 5:04I noticed her and I and I was curious.
- 5:07So I was able to figure out what she needed.
- 5:10And for me, that was such a great gift of the day.
- 5:13And I'll be a small gift. It was this connection back to
- 5:17Mother Nature, the universe, God, whatever you want to call
- 5:21it. It was a connection back to
- 5:23something and it just, it made me feel so full.
- 5:27So I encourage you to have these moments.
- 5:31I encourage you to look for these things because they are
- 5:34all around us. I could have walked right by her
- 5:37and not had it, but I drew, I truly believe that they are put
- 5:41all around us. And when you stop and you pause
- 5:44and you look, you find them. So go seek my friends.
- 5:48All right, I hope you have a blessed day and I will see you
- 5:50tomorrow. Bye.
