- 0:01What is going on, everybody?
- 0:03Welcome to the Clydesdale Media Wadapalooza.
- 0:06I'm sorry, Tier Wadapalooza.
- 0:08I don't have to do that.
- 0:09I'm not there.
- 0:10The Wadapalooza Wrap-Up Show.
- 0:13On Clydesdale Media, I'll say that a million times.
- 0:15We have Cat Shearer with us tonight.
- 0:17We have Jamie Latimer with us tonight.
- 0:20And we're going to break down all the stuff that is fun about what went on today.
- 0:26Before we get into today's action, a little cleanup of what has been going on kind of coming into the day.
- 0:34And that is Kevin Jurce withdrew this morning, bringing the field down one more.
- 0:43And then I had to ask you guys before we get into this Wadapalooza stuff.
- 0:47On Coffee Pods and Wads, he had Joshua El Chama on his show today, live from Miami.
- 0:57And Joshua got into this thing about how CrossFit needs to bring in brands that we're not used to.
- 1:06And the example he used was Coca-Cola, right?
- 1:12and that we need to make it a professional sport.
- 1:16We need to bring in brands like that.
- 1:18He then went on to say, as Peter was talking about how he's been on this diet, that that isn't healthy because it's not sustainable and you need to allow yourself stuff like Coca-Cola and cake and all this stuff.
- 1:41And it just spiraled into kind of a big mess.
- 1:48Like a CrossFit athlete endorsing Coca-Cola.
- 1:53Yeah.
- 1:55Did either of you get to see it?
- 1:58I didn't see it.
- 1:59I didn't see the live interview.
- 2:02So I didn't get, like, any broadcast really until, I don't know, two.
- 2:07Like, basically, I got to the gym, started training, and then I caught some of Sivan, and they were talking about it.
- 2:13And, like, people were like, Chama's off his rocker.
- 2:15And I heard Sivan saying, you know, like, comparing him to LeBron, like, supporting a, you know, you know how he is with that stuff.
- 2:25And I get it.
- 2:26I get Chama's point, like, bringing the big money.
- 2:29But I get the...
- 2:30That's so not where CrossFit and Glassman came from.
- 2:37I think that's why there's an argument for separating the sport and the methodology, right?
- 2:44Because I think it makes sense for the sport.
- 2:48The NBA does it.
- 2:48The NFL does it.
- 2:49If we want to be professional, I don't think we can...
- 2:53ride on Noble and go rock forever, you know, and it be, and have people make money and be that successful and that widespread.
- 3:01But I think, I think the key to that though, is how many people that don't CrossFit watch these competitions and consume these competitions.
- 3:12And I think that's where, I think that's the problem.
- 3:15One of the biggest problems as to why this isn't a professional sports, because you just have a very small microcosm.
- 3:21that watches it.
- 3:22And to us, it seems like our whole world because we're in it, but it's really not that big.
- 3:27And I've even talked to some other people just related to my gym business that have said that lately that aren't CrossFit gym people that are just in general fitness.
- 3:36And they feel like CrossFit has become less and less significant in their space than it was a couple of years ago.
- 3:44And now, again, I don't think we have good perspective on that because we're so deeply embedded in it, but I wonder if that's not the case.
- 3:53Yeah, I said a lot there.
- 3:56Yeah, that's a lot.
- 3:57That's a whole other conversation.
- 4:00So kind of going back to the root of it, I would say that I think that El Chama has a point that we do need to bring in other brands.
- 4:08Probably not.
- 4:10We probably shouldn't use the brand we just fought in court.
- 4:14Agreed.
- 4:15Right.
- 4:16Yeah.
- 4:17He probably doesn't even know that.
- 4:19Right.
- 4:20He probably doesn't.
- 4:21But...
- 4:23But we do need to think about other brands.
- 4:26And if you've ever been to Wadapalooza, their Thursday is called Community Day.
- 4:31You don't have to have a ticket to get in.
- 4:34And anybody from the street can walk in.
- 4:36And it's a very different dynamic than other CrossFit competitions, specifically on that Thursday.
- 4:43And that's a time and a place where you could take advantage of some things to market to...
- 4:53something that's not endemic to CrossFit.
- 4:56Yeah.
- 4:58Right.
- 4:59And it's, it's a real, it's probably the coolest thing that I think what a Palooza does is open up.
- 5:06It's free to come in on that Thursday.
- 5:08Anybody from the street can walk in and just check it out.
- 5:13Yeah, I do think that's an incredible thing that they do.
- 5:17Aaron made that point at legends.
- 5:18He's like, I think they missed the mark by not letting some of those college students come back there and see what this all all was about.
- 5:26That was a big group of people who could have maybe been introduced to something that they're not aware of.
- 5:33Yeah, they could have said if you have an Arizona State ID, like you can come in.
- 5:39Yeah.
- 5:40This is your school.
- 5:41This is your complex.
- 5:43Check out what we're doing with it.
- 5:46And it could have been huge.
- 5:50Yeah.
- 5:52So I just wanted to get your input on that.
- 5:55I just thought that was kind of an interesting topic today.
- 5:58Another interesting topic that I found was, did you know Colton Mertens was a proven athlete?
- 6:03I did not.
- 6:06Did you?
- 6:06No.
- 6:08I did not until I saw Brian Spinn's interview with him where he asked him about it because Proven posted that Colton was one of theirs.
- 6:25Colton's response to Spinn was, I've never done a single one of their workouts.
- 6:34but my plan is to do that in the future okay so he's going to clean his pantry he has to clean out his pantry of all this wolverine stuff basically what we're saying
- 6:46Oh, no, I think the Wolverine stuff's fine.
- 6:49I think that he works out with Ali at Kilo 2.
- 6:54Right.
- 6:55And he said in the interview that he doesn't believe that Kilo 2 gives him enough as an elite games athlete anymore.
- 7:08That's not what they do.
- 7:11um and he does a lot of his own programming to accessorize that and so this takes something off of his plate to allow somebody and he says he really likes nick johnston okay who doesn't and and taylor that he actually when he was in college worked out when nick was coaching at oc3
- 7:36And got to know him before Nick was proven, got to know Taylor is really good friends with both of them.
- 7:43And it sounds to me like he is going to be Nick's athlete.
- 7:49That's awesome.
- 7:52So, and they are going to program specifically for him and he, he called himself, um, an outlier.
- 8:02that most programming doesn't work for him because he's an outlier.
- 8:08I could see that a little bit, probably.
- 8:10I have a question for Kat.
- 8:15Have you seen any of his interviews this weekend?
- 8:19He's talking some smack.
- 8:21A lot of smack.
- 8:22He's come a long way from that interview we did, yes.
- 8:28We were the first people to ever interview him on a podcast.
- 8:33The internet was terrible.
- 8:36He was so shy.
- 8:37And now he comes out saying, Oh, I saw that shit where Pat Vellner got 46% of the vote.
- 8:45Well, I guess I got the other 54.
- 8:46Yeah.
- 8:49So confident.
- 8:49I love it.
- 8:51Oh, I was telling somebody, I was telling someone yesterday, the story about him and how he,
- 8:56when he lost the state championship in wrestling or something like that.
- 9:00And he did that interview like on YouTube with the local news station or something.
- 9:05And he declared that he was going to start doing this thing called CrossFit.
- 9:09He had never done it before, never been to a class, but he was going to start competing in CrossFit.
- 9:14And here he is insane.
- 9:17And he was going to go to the games.
- 9:18He, I think he declared that.
- 9:19It's going to be like a professional CrossFit athlete.
- 9:23Yeah, that's crazy.
- 9:26So yeah, I thought that was a long way.
- 9:29Um, cause I just, I never pictured him with, with a camp.
- 9:36I always thought he'd kind of be his own thing.
- 9:37Yeah.
- 9:39I do get like, he needs some stuff off of his plate and proven needs somebody.
- 9:49And Bill Grundler said, and I thought this was perfect.
- 9:53Colton is someone that doesn't have to win to be popular.
- 9:57Because he'll forever be the giant slayer.
- 10:00Yeah, he's a crowd favorite for sure, no matter what.
- 10:06And what Proven was based on was Tia winning.
- 10:10And by getting Colton to have somebody that doesn't have to win.
- 10:14I think Bill actually said, Colton will never win the games.
- 10:19Then Colton jumped into the chat and said, we'll see, Billy.
- 10:25yeah i mean i kind of agree with bill the thing about colton though is while you have someone like justin who doesn't need to win anything to win colton may never win but he's going to have lots of wins and that's kind of what gets people on his side is like yeah he might have a 30 second but then he has a first and he probably has two of them a weekend yeah
- 10:54So the last thing I want to finish up with is we talked judging last night.
- 10:59I picked on Miss Wishart because I thought she got a very unfair advantage in both the dips in the second event and in the strict pull-ups in the third event.
- 11:13And so I pulled the video just to show
- 11:20what I saw and we'll leave it for your judgment.
- 11:24So first is the dips.
- 11:43It's those last few for me that are just real.
- 11:46I mean, and you can see the athlete next to her
- 11:50whole body going on.
- 11:52Yeah.
- 11:53Yeah.
- 11:53But the whole body will be as opposed to the lean.
- 11:57She's doing the chicken pack.
- 11:59She's doing the Woody Woodpecker.
- 12:00Yeah.
- 12:03Just like just like when people do their push ups like that, you know?
- 12:07Yeah.
- 12:09Yep.
- 12:12Some of the reps probably are okay, but there are some that aren't and she's going so fast that the judge didn't call any of them.
- 12:21Yeah.
- 12:23Not good.
- 12:26And that got her out to a very big lead in the first two rounds of that second workout.
- 12:37No.
- 12:38Second workout.
- 12:38Yeah, that was the second workout.
- 12:40Yeah.
- 12:42And I think, yeah.
- 12:44And so here's the pull-ups.
- 12:46Oh, go ahead, Kat.
- 12:47No, go ahead.
- 12:48I'm going to get it wrong anyway.
- 12:52And then the pull-ups was in the third event, which is the one where you had three different intervals, and this got her out to a lead again in the three intervals, and these are terrible.
- 13:06Terrible.
- 13:16you're talking about her not locking out at the bottom at the bottom yeah yeah i was looking for chin over bar before when we were watching them i was like what's wrong they look fine to me it's not locking out yeah she's not extending almost like here yeah that's pretty bad different judge i don't think she had any or no ups did she no i said the same judge or different judge i think it was the same judge okay well
- 13:47That would be crazy.
- 13:50Two different events, same judge.
- 13:52And if you're not changing up the lane throughout the day, you end up getting the same athlete.
- 14:01And you know, I mean, first, the first heat is saved for the less experienced judges.
- 14:08I mean, just from logistics perspective, you get your best judges in your center lane in the last heat.
- 14:14Yeah.
- 14:16It's bound to happen.
- 14:20Yeah.
- 14:21She was in the first heat.
- 14:23She was toward the center lane.
- 14:27So that was weird to me.
- 14:31But I digress.
- 14:34The conversation was, I thought it wasn't necessarily about the judging.
- 14:38It was about when Waterpalooza changed the workouts, they really put the judge in a difficult position.
- 14:46When you're doing strict pull-ups, when you're doing dips, when you're doing deadlifts, that's a lot of movements that are tough to judge.
- 14:53And we talked about the deadlifts and all of them being Josh Bridges deadlifts.
- 14:59And it was pretty universal across the board.
- 15:04Yeah.
- 15:05Yeah.
- 15:07So.
- 15:09I'm glad that Kenneth is finally coming to my side.
- 15:12I actually got a couple DMs today about the finishes being bad.
- 15:17They were.
- 15:20Yeah.
- 15:21When you don't have a finish line, it just makes it impossible to know who finished first, especially with a 20-lane wide floor and the cameraman not being able to stretch out.
- 15:35Yeah.
- 15:41Thank you, Kenneth, for joining the club.
- 15:43He's on board.
- 15:46So let's hit the events real quick.
- 15:50I guess.
- 15:56What the heck?
- 16:00What you got?
- 16:00Ricky, Ricky, Ricky.
- 16:01Oh, hey, Brent just won.
- 16:05Did he win the whole thing?
- 16:07Oh, they're talking about the final event.
- 16:10The last event where Brent caught up to him.
- 16:14And you didn't really see it.
- 16:16Like, where did he pass him?
- 16:17Gotcha.
- 16:18Let's talk about the footage.
- 16:20Yeah.
- 16:22Yep.
- 16:23So let's talk about event four.
- 16:25It was the swim, echo, beaded, double under, run thing.
- 16:31Yep.
- 16:32And a mashup, right?
- 16:34Let's start with the women.
- 16:38Any thoughts?
- 16:40Who won that first heat?
- 16:44She was amazing.
- 16:45DeRoy.
- 16:45Emily DeRoy.
- 16:47That was my pick.
- 16:48Holy crap.
- 16:51I just loved her bathing suit.
- 16:55Yeah, she looks cute.
- 16:59I'm glad you brought a bathing suit.
- 17:01Because I have a note down about the choice of swimwear.
- 17:04Okay, great.
- 17:07I was a swimmer for a long time.
- 17:08I watched swimming meets all the time.
- 17:11Nobody, nobody in Olympic swimming, college swimming, high school swimming wears a two-piece.
- 17:17Agreed.
- 17:20It surprises me.
- 17:20I wouldn't do it.
- 17:21It's CrossFit.
- 17:22It's CrossFit.
- 17:23These girls are in their 20s.
- 17:24They have gorgeous bodies.
- 17:27You're trying to get every advantage as possible.
- 17:30And the swimsuits they have now help your buoyancy, which every athlete in CrossFit needs help with.
- 17:38true right i don't know i mean tier has a line of bikinis that they sell a shitload of and they were the title sponsor yeah i feel like those are for like sand volleyball right and whatever the hell's feast of coffee was wearing that wasn't helping her at all you're like no wonder she was struggling doing side stroke yeah i don't know what she was wearing
- 18:08If you're trying to win competitions, develop a suit that helps your athlete win a competition.
- 18:17They're out there.
- 18:17Tier, you're a freaking swimsuit company.
- 18:21I know they make the kind that are worn in the Olympics.
- 18:26What I wore at Legends is a Tier 1 piece.
- 18:30And there were plenty of women there wearing two pieces, and it amazes me.
- 18:42To me, it means that you're worried about the aesthetics more than you're worried about the time because the suits they make today will take tons of seconds off your time.
- 18:54I will say there may be a feeling from some of those athletes that the sensation of having their belly covered
- 19:03makes them feel a certain way.
- 19:04And the only reason I say that is because like growing up doing ballet,
- 19:09You'd have long sleeve leotards and like tank top leotards.
- 19:12And I could not wear a long sleeve leotard to save my life.
- 19:15Like in the dead of winter, I just couldn't do it.
- 19:17I hated having my arms like constricted in a thing.
- 19:22Like my arms would literally ache because I had like on them.
- 19:27So, you know, and a lot of these ladies typically wear a jog bra and, you know, in pants or something and have it.
- 19:33their belly exposed i mean and i'm reaching obviously but like trying to give them the benefit of the doubt maybe that's just a more comfortable existence for them i heard it was hot there today you know hot and steamy maybe it's just the preference their preference would you rather feel the sensation of your legs dragging on the bottom of the ocean or the sensation of floating
- 20:00I don't know that anyone's put it to me that way when I'm selecting my bathing suit.
- 20:04All right.
- 20:07I'll get off my breath.
- 20:09We should ask the athletes.
- 20:11It's something we should ask them.
- 20:15We're curious.
- 20:17I just want everybody's butt.
- 20:20I hate to say it, but the aesthetic of a female body, even a male body in CrossFit is just amazing.
- 20:28I so appreciate it.
- 20:30Well, and the guys, for the most part, if you're wearing the compression, that's pretty much the male swimsuit of the Olympian.
- 20:39Yeah.
- 20:40Now, there were a couple guys that wore, like, trunks.
- 20:43And I'm like, that's just drag.
- 20:45Yeah.
- 20:48But there was much fewer men in trunks than women in two pieces.
- 20:55Yeah.
- 20:57I like a two piece swimsuit.
- 21:00I'm all for it, but practically it makes no sense.
- 21:04Yeah.
- 21:04You would just think these, these athletes train enough that, I mean, I would think you would be training in a one piece, but maybe they aren't.
- 21:11So I guess that's what they have and that's what they're used to.
- 21:13Yeah.
- 21:15We should ask.
- 21:15We should find out when, when Jim showed up at the pool, he showed up in board shorts and wanted to wear a t-shirt.
- 21:24And I was like, Jim, no.
- 21:29And you're referencing Jim Cooper, Masters Game Athlete.
- 21:33Yes, correct.
- 21:36Yeah, okay.
- 21:38The other thing I did notice just overall, man, they are not training on sight lines swimming in open water.
- 21:46The amount of zigzag being done in the water was crazy.
- 21:52It almost cost Ricky big.
- 21:55Like he veered so far inside that he almost had to make a 90 degree turn to get out around the buoy.
- 22:04Was it choppy?
- 22:08It wasn't bad.
- 22:09They said that the conditions were ideal.
- 22:12Oh, I missed a lot of this one.
- 22:14So I couldn't quite see what was going on out there.
- 22:16I was coaching.
- 22:19Yeah, the only time they even talked about the wind was when Fikowski went to go around.
- 22:26He kind of got off a little bit.
- 22:28The wind blew the buoy to reduce the amount he had to go around right at the time he made the turn.
- 22:34Yes, Garrett, they do.
- 22:44All companies make one-piece suits for women.
- 22:48Yeah.
- 22:48Like Daniel Brandon.
- 22:49Daniel Brandon.
- 22:52Right.
- 22:54Yeah.
- 22:55So, okay.
- 22:57Back to the actual event.
- 23:00Grace Walton.
- 23:02I heard rumblings that she was an amazing swimmer.
- 23:06It was beyond amazing.
- 23:09She won that event by she beat the heat before by two minutes.
- 23:15And she dominated that.
- 23:18against some pretty good swimmers in her.
- 23:21The other thing is Emma Carey is becoming so consistent.
- 23:24Yeah.
- 23:26Her place in that shocked me.
- 23:29Yeah, she was competing for the win in that.
- 23:33I didn't know she was a swimmer.
- 23:34Right?
- 23:35She took second, yeah.
- 23:37Mm-hmm.
- 23:38And then Ariel Lohan is getting very well-rounded as well.
- 23:46Yeah.
- 23:46Yeah.
- 23:47If she's doing well in swimming and 5Ks and all of that along with the other stuff, she really is getting better.
- 23:56I wish that Emily would have been able to compete with the other heat.
- 24:01I would have liked to seen it.
- 24:03I don't know if it would have hurt her, helped her.
- 24:06If DeRoy could have been in that other heat, I mean, we were talking and she was fumbling with her jump rope.
- 24:14I don't know if having people even faster than her would have flustered her more and made it worse, or if she would have maybe picked up time somewhere.
- 24:22I don't know.
- 24:24But I would have liked that opportunity for her.
- 24:26Did the women finish that race faster than the men?
- 24:32No.
- 24:33Okay.
- 24:36Sprague and Fikowski can really swim.
- 24:38And so can Sam Quant, which I did not know.
- 24:41Yeah.
- 24:43Yeah, he looked great.
- 24:48My highlights from the men were Heinrich Heipelainen and the cannonball.
- 24:53Oh, did he?
- 24:54Cannonball into the water.
- 24:56Yeah.
- 24:57I guess the athletes were told not to run down the ramp, but he ran down and then jumped
- 25:03feet first cannonball into the water.
- 25:07It was awesome.
- 25:08That's funny.
- 25:10Um, Sprague, he, he got passed on the first lap by a couple of people.
- 25:16And I was like, maybe he's not as good as I thought he was.
- 25:20And then after that double under man, he, he turned tail and he passed everybody on the second lap.
- 25:30Um, and then I loved when he was finishing the run, um,
- 25:33He did the crowd to get them pumped up.
- 25:39Ricky's getting really consistent.
- 25:43And then I put down that Hatfield and Rosema, not the best swimmers.
- 25:54Did you guys get to watch any of the men at all?
- 25:56Or I know you both had to coach.
- 25:59Yeah, I was catching 4.30, so I didn't get to see the guys.
- 26:03I did see the women.
- 26:07So then we move into the final event.
- 26:14And for a nice day, there was a lot of slipping.
- 26:17I know.
- 26:21Like a lot.
- 26:22Yes.
- 26:23Yes.
- 26:29I wonder if that was from sweat.
- 26:33Like from prior heats and stuff.
- 26:36Somebody said it was really hot today.
- 26:38It looked like there was condensation on the dulcimer mat.
- 26:43And if they stepped on that and then came back out, then the bottom of their shoes were wet.
- 26:48Okay.
- 26:50But I'm just guessing.
- 26:51Yeah.
- 26:53Yeah, it looked wet.
- 26:54That mat looked wet.
- 26:56What did you call it?
- 26:57A dulcimer mat?
- 26:58Isn't that what it's called?
- 27:00Dolamer.
- 27:02Dolamer.
- 27:03Dolamer.
- 27:05Dulcimer is something, though.
- 27:06Isn't that like a musical instrument or something?
- 27:08Yeah, it's like a bell, I think.
- 27:12Yeah.
- 27:13Okay.
- 27:14Sorry.
- 27:14Sorry.
- 27:17I love my music too.
- 27:19Hey, the broadcasters can mispronounce everything.
- 27:21Why can't I?
- 27:22Oh my gosh.
- 27:23Yeah.
- 27:24Sure can.
- 27:29So let's start with the women.
- 27:32Any surprises in that for you guys?
- 27:36No, not really.
- 27:37I mean, I had picked Danielle Brandon and she did exactly what she needed to do.
- 27:42I
- 27:47I thought Emily Rock would have done better.
- 27:50One big surprise to me is, did Danielle put jewels on her teeth?
- 27:55Yeah.
- 27:55Yeah.
- 27:56Oh, really?
- 27:57The eye tooth.
- 27:59Yeah.
- 28:01Okay.
- 28:02That was a surprise for me.
- 28:03Yeah.
- 28:04Not really have anything to do with the competition.
- 28:08Calista Lange.
- 28:10I loved seeing her crush Heat Woman.
- 28:12Mm-hmm.
- 28:13been talking to her for a couple years um i think she's really just on the verge and uh it was cool seeing her do so well i like that emma carrie pushed danielle on that event i had a i had a little bit of deja vu when emma was doing her final march down the thing remember at granite games
- 28:41And Andrew was her judge and we were screaming and yelling at him.
- 28:46Yeah, that gave me a little PTSD when I saw that.
- 28:50Andrew was her judge on that.
- 28:54Oh, I did not know that.
- 28:55Yeah.
- 28:57Yeah.
- 28:58I remember watching that.
- 28:59We gave him shit for a long time.
- 29:01Yeah.
- 29:03And we've forgiven him since then, but not really.
- 29:06But I did put down in my notes that Emma appeared to have learned to pace, unlike Granite Games.
- 29:14Yeah.
- 29:15That was the other piece.
- 29:17I didn't want her to... I kept saying, just don't worry about what Danielle's doing.
- 29:22I was watching her as she was doing her handstand walk, and when Danielle passed her, I thought to myself, this is not the time to get excited and upset.
- 29:29And she did.
- 29:30She was very even-keeled, and that was kind of my...
- 29:33mental note to her was like, just chill out.
- 29:35You don't need to be Danielle.
- 29:37No.
- 29:39Yeah.
- 29:41She, when we first met her till last year was a blackout racer.
- 29:48Yeah.
- 29:50She would go till she blacked out.
- 29:52the fact that she knew the situation and what she needed to do to win and just hung in that spot, I thought showed a lot of maturity and that she's come a very long way.
- 30:07Yeah.
- 30:08Yeah.
- 30:09She was, did great.
- 30:09You could tell pacing off of Gabby that first round and then, and then she knew she had it like she, she did exactly what she needed to do.
- 30:19Yeah.
- 30:21And no surprise that Danielle killed the handstand walks.
- 30:25Right.
- 30:27I mean, I think her record is like, if the handstand walks are in it, she's like top three every time.
- 30:34Yeah.
- 30:37Yeah.
- 30:41I thought the men was an amazing race.
- 30:44Great way to finish off the individual with Ricky and Brent Roman coming out hot and dying.
- 30:54Sam quant kind of hanging in there.
- 30:57And I don't know what, if the leaderboard is final way up there too.
- 31:04Oh yeah.
- 31:06Yeah.
- 31:12I think it's final.
- 31:14Is it up finally?
- 31:18All the scores are populated.
- 31:19And they all have green dots.
- 31:27Yep.
- 31:28So Sam Cornway moved all the way up to sixth.
- 31:36Past Jim Sprague.
- 31:39Past Roman Krennikoff.
- 31:42So he finished sixth.
- 31:44Fifth was Jack Farlow.
- 31:46I was hoping he would get a podium this weekend, but top five's pretty good.
- 31:52Vellner passed him to take fourth.
- 31:56Samuel Quant took third.
- 31:58Brent took second, and Ricky Gerrard won.
- 32:07So then we go to the women.
- 32:09We already talked about all of that.
- 32:13And the way it finished up, do we still have that one final?
- 32:17Looks like it's final.
- 32:20So we have Rebecca Vitteson in fifth, Ariel Lowen in fourth, Danielle Brandon in third, Gabby Magawa in second, and Emma Carey in first.
- 32:39I thought Danielle would have made up enough ground.
- 32:40No, she didn't.
- 32:45She was like 30 or 40 points back.
- 32:47And they did great on the event.
- 32:52Yeah, she finished 20, no, 17 points behind Gabby.
- 33:01And Emma won by six.
- 33:04Wow.
- 33:07Pretty tight race.
- 33:10Yeah.
- 33:11So what does, what does this mean for the top five going into the season on both sides?
- 33:17Anything you have some surprises like Madison and far low mean anything for them?
- 33:26I'm sure it gives them quite a confidence boost, but you know, Emma, Carrie getting a win.
- 33:36I don't know.
- 33:42If anything, I feel like beating Danielle is the icing on the cake for her.
- 33:48I didn't even think about that.
- 33:50Well, and that's twice in this year.
- 33:55She won semis over Danielle in Orlando.
- 34:00So what means more, the semifinal win or what a Palooza win?
- 34:09I would think semifinal win.
- 34:12I feel like Wadapalooza is just an exhibition, you know?
- 34:15It is, and it's not super well-rounded.
- 34:18Five events, it's tough to really... I don't want to say that, because I don't want to take away anyone's placing and finish and be like, well, so-and-so wasn't here, or there's only five events.
- 34:30I mean, there's something to it.
- 34:32Win's a win.
- 34:33Yeah.
- 34:33Yeah.
- 34:36I think the fact that there was a lot of monostructural and a big lift and she won means more than what happened at semis.
- 34:46I see what you mean.
- 34:49I don't think it was programmed for her.
- 34:52Those two events, I think the other ones you could say were, but those two events, the swim event, I think she proved a lot.
- 35:01Yes.
- 35:03Yes.
- 35:05And the lift, she didn't have to like go nuts.
- 35:08And she, all she had to do was damage control and save her back.
- 35:13Yeah.
- 35:14In a five event race.
- 35:21So can I say this point here?
- 35:22Yeah.
- 35:22I mean, last year she was, she was 20 something the year before.
- 35:26Right.
- 35:34So I think it meant a lot to her.
- 35:36I do too.
- 35:37I think it gave her the confidence to know she could compete like top 10.
- 35:42Yeah.
- 35:42I think what Kenneth means is what does it mean?
- 35:44Like she won, but she hasn't done a whole lot since then or has she, you know, like did that affect, I think if you finish, she did better at the games and yeah.
- 35:59I mean, I don't think it's any sign of like changing of the guard or anything necessarily, but she,
- 36:06it's fun to watch for sure.
- 36:07And it's easily digestible.
- 36:09I like as a fan, you know, not being there, it's nice to be able to view this competition with five events and not, you know, destroy my entire social life or weekend, you know, got to see it.
- 36:22And I love that it's on YouTube, but I can go back.
- 36:24If I miss it, I can go watch it again, you know, not on the live stream and things like that.
- 36:29I hope that continues to happen for some of these, for all these events, really.
- 36:35Yeah.
- 36:36Programming has been, and I understand the weather, but I feel like other than that last event, the last event was pretty exciting to watch.
- 36:46Some of the camera work could have been better, like announcing the races and stuff, but I think that event itself was fun to watch.
- 36:54Some of the other ones were just meh.
- 36:57I thought the swim event was fun to watch.
- 37:00I thought that was the best camera work they did all day.
- 37:04It probably had to do with the new Bayfront stage and the way it's set up now.
- 37:12They have a little more perspective.
- 37:19We'll get into that in a second.
- 37:21Then I think for Ricky, it tells him his shoulder is okay.
- 37:29So I wasn't meant to bring that up because yesterday with his bar facing burpees, did you watch those?
- 37:39Apparently I didn't watch what you did, man.
- 37:42Oh, every single one was like, I don't even know if I can like demo this, but like, this is how he came down on his bar facing burpee and only like babying that shoulder.
- 37:52Oh yeah.
- 37:52Like didn't even go to the ground.
- 37:53Like technically only as left side really touched the ground.
- 37:58Like he was,
- 37:59It was weird.
- 38:06I was actually curious.
- 38:08Go ahead.
- 38:09He had to do overhead lunge.
- 38:13I know.
- 38:13I don't know if... Strict pull-ups.
- 38:17That's the thing.
- 38:19That was event two.
- 38:21I was curious if we were going to see that roll into event three.
- 38:27Maybe it's just something he's been doing since it's been her.
- 38:29And that's like kind of a muscle memory thing.
- 38:31And the, but everything, everything is fine.
- 38:34He just got into a funky thing with burpees.
- 38:36I don't know.
- 38:41Yeah.
- 38:42What does it mean?
- 38:45I'm sorry.
- 38:45What did you say?
- 38:47Maybe he slept on it wrong.
- 38:51I mean, that would be a master's thing.
- 38:53If I sleep on my elbow wrong, it's wrecked for a day at least.
- 38:59What does it mean for Sam Quant to podium?
- 39:05Does it mean it's a good year for him?
- 39:08I hope so.
- 39:09He's with HWPO, right?
- 39:11This is his new place and he's back with Harry in a good spot.
- 39:16I hope it means good things for him.
- 39:17I think he's super capable.
- 39:20What does it mean for...
- 39:21Yeah.
- 39:22What does it mean for Pat Vellner?
- 39:27It means he still can't swim.
- 39:28I think that's it.
- 39:34Yeah.
- 39:35There are just a couple of things Pat can't do and he's got to overcome them every competition.
- 39:39And in a five event competition, you can't overcome.
- 39:43Swimming is one of them.
- 39:44Yeah.
- 39:45Yeah.
- 39:49So, but I think you look good on other stuff.
- 39:51Like, like, yeah.
- 39:55Yeah.
- 39:57It just needs to, he needs them for that swing.
- 39:59Just 5%.
- 40:03So let's talk about, did you guys see the barge at Bayfront?
- 40:08Yes.
- 40:10So the stage now at Bayfront is not connected to land.
- 40:14It's floating.
- 40:16Okay.
- 40:18So it's floating.
- 40:19That's where they got more seating because they could run the stands all the way to the waterfront.
- 40:26And from what I hear, it made it even better from an athlete perspective, seeing the way the stage kind of goes up and they're out on this barge and it's really a cool atmosphere for them.
- 40:45I heard athletes say it's even more special than it was before.
- 40:49But what it also did is it widened.
- 40:52So instead of being a 10 lane field of play, it's now a 20 lane field of play.
- 41:02And what I've always loved about Bayfront is they have a screen above the floor that has like the athlete name in each lane.
- 41:11So you can, because the broadcast doesn't tell you who's in each lane, at least you could look up at the screen and see who it was in each lane to kind of know who was who.
- 41:27But what it did do also is the ramp to the water had to be longer.
- 41:32Because they're 10 feet above the water.
- 41:35And as Megan is talking about, the slips and falls.
- 41:40So they built a ramp.
- 41:41It was a little steeper.
- 41:42They put some wood strips to kind of catch.
- 41:46But they also put a tear logo on it.
- 41:48It would be vinyl.
- 41:50And as it gets wet, it would become very slippery.
- 41:54So people were slipping and falling up and down.
- 41:59The ramp, pretty much the whole competition.
- 42:02Not good.
- 42:04Yeah.
- 42:04I feel like anytime you go from the water to dry land and you have to do stuff, that's going to happen too.
- 42:13Yeah.
- 42:15I don't know how they did those double unders without shoes on.
- 42:18I would be so scared.
- 42:19I would break a toe for sure with those beaded ropes.
- 42:23You miss on a double under with no shoes on?
- 42:26Ouch.
- 42:29I couldn't do it.
- 42:31That's why I'm not there.
- 42:35When I miss, I don't need to hit a toe.
- 42:40You'd be nervous.
- 42:41I also couldn't run on a salt runner barefooted either.
- 42:44That would be terrible.
- 42:48Some people put shoes on for the runner.
- 42:50Yeah.
- 42:51Very few.
- 42:52A couple people put shoes on for the jump rope too.
- 42:55Oh, wow.
- 42:56Which I would have had to do.
- 42:57Yeah.
- 42:59But you notice they did the bike first.
- 43:01So you could wear shoes for the bike and then ditch the shoes.
- 43:04Because in years past, they've done the bike barefoot too.
- 43:07And that Echo bike, those pedals are not comfortable.
- 43:09Yeah, I would rather salt run and double under.
- 43:15Yeah, than bike.
- 43:16Same.
- 43:23So, yeah.
- 43:25I thought it was really cool.
- 43:27I did have a little bit of FOMO when they were there for the first time this weekend.
- 43:32I didn't miss the rainy day that took away my FOMO because I didn't, we've been there in bad weather.
- 43:38It sucks.
- 43:40Um, but yeah.
- 43:44So do you think there will be enough seating come Saturday and Sunday?
- 43:52So I did see on the board tonight, if you didn't have that upper tier pass, you couldn't be in Flagler for the final.
- 44:02Flagler didn't look crowded at all.
- 44:04Right.
- 44:04Just like what happens at the games.
- 44:06You have a handful of people that are like, I'm not sticking around for this, even though I paid the money.
- 44:11And then there's empty seats.
- 44:14So I hope there's a way where they say, hey, we've got 10 extra seats.
- 44:20We'll let the first 10 festival pass people or whatever.
- 44:24Because that's what they did last year with festival pass anyway.
- 44:30Everybody stood in line and they would wait.
- 44:33And if there was a row open, they would take you up, put you in.
- 44:41And then if you had to go pee, you lost your seat.
- 44:46That's not for me.
- 44:48I can't deal with stuff like that.
- 44:49Yeah, it was as chaotic as it sounds, Jamie.
- 44:52It was just not my cup of tea either.
- 44:56That's why it took me 10 years to go for the first time.
- 44:59I was like, nope, too chaotic for me.
- 45:02Yeah.
- 45:03I sat for, what, seven hours?
- 45:06Easily.
- 45:07To be able to see the finals.
- 45:11And it was freezing.
- 45:14Oh, even worse.
- 45:16Yeah.
- 45:19And we have media passes.
- 45:20Yeah.
- 45:22We still had to, still couldn't make it.
- 45:26It was silly.
- 45:30Yeah.
- 45:30It is tough watching what the media gets access to this year.
- 45:35Yeah.
- 45:39Yeah.
- 45:39when what we fought for just a quarter of that last year.
- 45:47So, um, and did you guys like the broadcast at all any better today than last night?
- 45:59It just seemed a little flat.
- 46:01I mean, the camera work was, it was tough to, you know, coordinate.
- 46:05You could tell they were wanting cameras to go to certain people and they just, it just wasn't happening.
- 46:09I think Sean did a good job of explaining who was where, you know, he'd say like on the top right part of your screen in the blue trunks, you know, provided that the camera angle didn't change, that would make sense.
- 46:23for people that weren't watching.
- 46:24But again, I think most of the people that are watching are fans of the sport and we all know who everybody is anyway.
- 46:29Yeah, I just think with the way it's designed, it's tough to get a good broadcast anyway.
- 46:44Yeah.
- 46:45And then it's really hard when
- 46:52I don't think they have the right spotters telling them who's who.
- 46:59Like most professional broadcasts, they have a spotter with binoculars that can see right at and tell you that's this person, that's that person.
- 47:10Right.
- 47:12Or this is the last athlete coming out of the water.
- 47:16Correct.
- 47:16Yeah.
- 47:17You know.
- 47:18Not, oh, yeah, there's three more people in the water.
- 47:21Oops.
- 47:23Yeah.
- 47:24Yeah, that's the last person.
- 47:25Wait, no, there's three more people out there.
- 47:27Yeah, and that's, I mean, that's not on them.
- 47:29That's, you know, they're dealing with whatever they can see or hear, but it could have been a little more comprehensive.
- 47:36Yep.
- 47:40Yeah, I thought the name pronunciations were better.
- 47:43A little bit, yeah.
- 47:46I didn't have to send anyone a DM today.
- 47:50correcting them it was so much and it was funny although yeah with brian part of the like brian at least is very conscientious about that sorry i closed my notes by accident because i'm an amateur
- 48:13So before we go, I just want to preview tomorrow morning.
- 48:16We're going to be back on at 545.
- 48:18It'll be Amy and I for sure.
- 48:22Maybe Jamie will be on tomorrow at 545.
- 48:26And we'll be talking about the first two events from the team workouts.
- 48:30So I have them here in my notes.
- 48:32Workout one is four time, 20 wall walks, 40 strict handstand pushups, 60 handstand pushups.
- 48:42One holds handstand, one works, one rests.
- 48:46And you can cycle through that however you need to.
- 48:50then flagler some flagler is this on flagler i think it's in flagler okay because the next one is a swim event uh two four 240 synchro double unders two work one rest 60 deadlifts 40 hand cleans 20 front squats all three synchro
- 49:14Males are 135, 155, 165.
- 49:19Females are 95, 105, 115.
- 49:29So that is the first workout.
- 49:30What are your thoughts?
- 49:34It'll be a good workout.
- 49:36I like it.
- 49:39Yeah.
- 49:39Do you think people go unbroken on the barbell work?
- 49:46After all those handstand pushups?
- 49:48You said front squat?
- 49:4960 deadlifts, 40 hand cleans, 20 front squats.
- 49:59I mean, well, it's team, right?
- 50:01So how do they break it up?
- 50:03Oh, synchro.
- 50:06Oh, that's going to be so chaotic.
- 50:11Where are they going to do that?
- 50:14Are they going to all be like in a line?
- 50:17How the heck are you going to judge that?
- 50:20Or like indicate that it's a no run?
- 50:24Good grief.
- 50:26That could be a nightmare.
- 50:2720 lanes?
- 50:28Three people in each lane?
- 50:30Yay.
- 50:33I don't like it if they're in lanes because the person in front would have to rely on sound.
- 50:40Like talking.
- 50:42You have to watch each other.
- 50:43Or it's two one direction and one the other direction facing each other.
- 50:49I don't know.
- 50:52Yeah, I don't love that.
- 50:53I guess we'll find out.
- 50:54That would be fun.
- 50:55It gives us a reason to tune in.
- 50:58Yeah.
- 51:00So that's the first event of the day.
- 51:02Second one is four-time 30-worm clean and jerks.
- 51:07Athlete one swims.
- 51:09Athletes two and three, 50 synchro burpees over the worm.
- 51:15Then 20 worm clean and jerks, athlete two swims, and one in three do 50 synchro burpees over the worm.
- 51:23Then 10 worm clean and jerks, athlete three swims, athletes one and two do 50 synchro burpees over the worm, and you finish with five worm clean and jerks.
- 51:34That's going to be nasty.
- 51:36Oh, my gosh.
- 51:39Yeah, those burpee over the worm, I mean...
- 51:42A hundred of them.
- 51:43Everybody's got to do a hundred in between a swim and yeah.
- 51:47Yuck.
- 51:49Everything's going to be blown up.
- 51:52And your floor is going to be wet around your worms.
- 51:55So then you're doing burpees in puddles.
- 51:58Flipping, sliding.
- 51:59Yeah.
- 52:00That's going to be awful.
- 52:02I mean, that one sounds brutal for the athletes.
- 52:05It sure does.
- 52:09Any cream you're excited to see tomorrow?
- 52:16I don't know.
- 52:16Chandler and Noah.
- 52:20Yeah.
- 52:21I'd have to go back to whoever the third person is.
- 52:24The hombres.
- 52:27Yeah.
- 52:33I wish the Australians would have come.
- 52:38Khan and James?
- 52:41No, no.
- 52:41The new breed.
- 52:42The Bailey Martin, Jay Crouch, Royce.
- 52:46Well, who is it?
- 52:48Someone's here.
- 52:50There's a team of like two of them, right?
- 52:52Yeah, I think so.
- 52:57You want me to look it up?
- 52:58You just want that team that was at the down under, that threesome.
- 53:02Yeah, that was a good team.
- 53:04Because I think it would have been a tough team to beat.
- 53:06Yes.
- 53:12I can't think of the pairing of that other group that ran down somewhere.
- 53:24The Vellner mayor BKG one is interesting.
- 53:28Yup.
- 53:29Is, but hold on.
- 53:30Is Travis coming?
- 53:32Yes.
- 53:34So he only pulled out of individual.
- 53:37Oh my gosh.
- 53:39Well, what the heck?
- 53:39Why?
- 53:43They're looking for a payday, I guess.
- 53:45So it's Medeiros, Willie George, and Jay Crouch.
- 53:49So it's just your Jay Crouch.
- 53:51Yeah, and Royce is with Sam Demeester and Angelo Jachico.
- 53:57That's right, because he's a mayhem, Kai.
- 53:59That'll be an interesting team.
- 54:01And then you got Gerard, Dalen, and Hopper.
- 54:05I mean, that one will be exciting.
- 54:07That's going to be cool, yeah.
- 54:09I'm excited to see them.
- 54:10Sprague, Farlow, and Benoit Boulanger.
- 54:15Boulanger, and isn't he an impeccable swimmer?
- 54:17Or is that Dion Biron is the swimmer?
- 54:22I don't think Boulanger is.
- 54:24I don't know.
- 54:25Boulanger is who trains with Jeff Adler.
- 54:27Okay.
- 54:29I don't know.
- 54:29I'm not sure if he's a good swimmer.
- 54:32Yeah.
- 54:34That one I think is very, the weekend spray again, furlough had, it's going to be interesting to see how they carry that over.
- 54:40Yeah.
- 54:44They'd be tired.
- 54:45On the women's side.
- 54:50I'm anxious to know if Matilde is going to be able to, to compete.
- 54:55She said yes.
- 54:55Right.
- 54:57She's going to try.
- 54:57Okay.
- 55:02the Emily DeRoy Grace Walton they're going to win this one event yeah for sure well we'll see how they are on the worm together that's gonna I mean true it's not just a swim yeah yeah there's not as many big names on the women's side really is Ariel doing team nope
- 55:32interesting like the big one is brookwell's page powers and bailey rail then you have uh kyra milligan jesse smith and devin kim okay uh matilda rebecca vettison and annika greer okay alisa puliano allison scuds and michelle basnet hmm
- 55:56Then that Emily DeRoy, Grace Walton, Victoria Campos, Kelsey Keel, Kelly Baker, and Emile Lundberg.
- 56:09Emile Lundberg?
- 56:11That could be a good team.
- 56:13That's pretty much it.
- 56:17Interesting.
- 56:18Eliza Schauer, Madison McElhaney, Zoe Warren.
- 56:21It's kind of a second final team.
- 56:24Yep.
- 56:30Yep.
- 56:32That's all I see.
- 56:34Oh, Kenneth wants to know if Alex Kazan's on the team.
- 56:37Alex was there.
- 56:38I saw her tonight in the stands.
- 56:39She is not on the team.
- 56:42So she's just chilling with the Kotlers, probably.
- 56:45Maybe she'll get filled in.
- 56:52That's true.
- 56:54There's always someone that backs out.
- 56:56That's true.
- 56:57Yeah.
- 56:58Good point.
- 56:59I like your, uh, Kenneth asked how Alex would do in this competition.
- 57:04I think she may have given Emma a run.
- 57:09Yeah.
- 57:12Yeah.
- 57:12Is she a good swimmer?
- 57:14Well, I take that back.
- 57:15I do take that back.
- 57:17She can't snatch.
- 57:18Right.
- 57:19Well, she can, we would have just, it would have been kind of hit or miss.
- 57:24Like she has like a one 85 snatch.
- 57:25I don't know what her complex would have been.
- 57:28Right.
- 57:29So if she was down on the leaderboard on that, is she a good swimmer or would she be in the middle of the pack there?
- 57:35I don't even know.
- 57:38I think she would have done great on the other three, but you can't.
- 57:42I wouldn't have thought Emma Carey would be a great swimmer either, though.
- 57:46Yeah, I didn't know she was that great.
- 57:48Well, now that she's working with Henshaw, like he teaches swimming, right?
- 57:56Yeah, I would assume.
- 58:00So I don't know.
- 58:00I like, I, I have visions of her with Carrie and Ariel last year, not doing that bad on the swim, but it was just like one quick lap.
- 58:13Yeah.
- 58:13Right.
- 58:13So I don't know.
- 58:16I'm excited.
- 58:17I'm excited to see it.
- 58:18It's going to be fun.
- 58:18Yeah.
- 58:19Teams, teams are usually a little more exciting.
- 58:21We'll see.
- 58:22The men's side is pretty packed.
- 58:24I have something to share.
- 58:26Ready?
- 58:27Ready?
- 58:30Yeah.
- 58:34See it?
- 58:36That's a dulcimer.
- 58:38It's a dulcimer.
- 58:38Okay.
- 58:39So this is the, oh, it's like a, it's like a thing where you kind of put something on the hand and then you like pick out it like this.
- 58:48It stands up.
- 58:49My great uncle used to make these.
- 58:51It's the only reason I know what they are.
- 58:53That's crazy.
- 58:55But anyway, I thought I would share that with you.
- 58:58So don't step on that when it has condensation and then try to do lunges.
- 59:09All right.
- 59:11We have, we have Clydesdale media leagues for teams.
- 59:16Okay.

- 59:38I did not.
- 59:39I had Pat Vellner winning.
- 59:43And I had... You had Ricky winning?
- 59:46Nice.
- 59:47Ricky.
- 59:49I'm sorry.
- 59:50I had Vellner, then Ricky.
- 59:53Told you.
- 59:53Yeah.
- 59:54Yeah.

- 1:00:09Yeah, I had Ariel, Emma, Gabby, Emily Rolfe, and then Danielle Brandon.
- 1:00:14I actually had Rebecca Bedison in fifth.
- 1:00:18How about that?
- 1:00:18Ooh.
- 1:00:22You with your crystal ball.
- 1:00:26How did you pick Rebecca Vitteson?
- 1:00:29She's good at like monostructural.

- 1:01:13And he didn't know what top 10 meant?
- 1:01:16Nope.
- 1:01:16I love it.
- 1:01:17Just picked Colton.
- 1:01:18That did not play out well for you, really.
- 1:01:26Colton for all 10 spots.
- 1:01:28Yeah.
