- 0:46Speaker 2: and at Girls Gone Hallmark.
- 0:48Speaker 1: And jump into our Facebook group Girls Gone Hallmark, where
- 0:51Speaker 1: I gotta say there is not enough talk of The
- 0:53Speaker 1: Way Home in that Facebook group.
- 0:56Speaker 2: I need more speculation. I need I want some more toa.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I just think it's really it's really well done. I
- 1:04Speaker 2: think it's really well done, so it's not inviting some
- 1:07Speaker 2: of the usual Hallmark discussion.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Daria, Yes, I agree, but I need more.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Yeah, let's talk about it. If you'd like to talk
- 1:15Speaker 2: about the Way Home, join us in our Facebook group.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Do you want to do a little little housekeeping, some updates,
- 1:21Speaker 2: let's do it.
- 1:23Speaker 1: We did not have a review of Made for each
- 1:27Speaker 1: Other this week because I Wendy still dealing with a
- 1:31Speaker 1: broken ankle. Meghan decided to come down with I don't
- 1:35Speaker 1: know what you had. Was it the flu or.
- 1:38Speaker 2: No, it was officially not the flu I.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Have, and not COVID.
- 1:43Speaker 2: It's not covid. It's bronchitis plus some other mystery virus
- 1:49Speaker 2: combined on top of it. So I just went down
- 1:52Speaker 2: for about five days. You can still hear it in
- 1:54Speaker 2: my voice. I'm getting better, but I did have to
- 1:58Speaker 2: take a break halfway up the stairs this morning. Breathing
- 2:02Speaker 2: is still a bit of a challenge.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Well, I'm going to tell you. If you're not crawling
- 2:07Speaker 1: up the stairs like a toddler, I'm sorry. You're winning.
- 2:12Speaker 1: You're winning.
- 2:13Speaker 2: So we're not there yet.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I typically listen will listen to our podcast episodes after
- 2:20Speaker 1: they go live, and I am refusing to listen to
- 2:24Speaker 1: listen to last week's recap of the Way Home because
- 2:28Speaker 1: it's like a blurry mess to me. I think I
- 2:31Speaker 1: did it, Like, did we record that on Thursday, two
- 2:34Speaker 1: days after I broke my ankle? Yes? Yeah, I think
- 2:37Speaker 1: I was on drugs, some heavy sedation.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I think you should listen because I think it I
- 2:44Speaker 2: edited in a way that it is not clear the
- 2:48Speaker 2: ways in which you.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Were struggling enough Oh my goodness, I'm like mortified.
- 2:55Speaker 2: To be honest, Well, two things were happening. One you
- 2:58Speaker 2: were on heavy pain medication, and two it had been
- 3:02Speaker 2: multiple days since you had watched and taken notes on
- 3:06Speaker 2: this show, right, and so I have extensive notes. But
- 3:09Speaker 2: I'm also you know, I watched this yesterday morning, so
- 3:12Speaker 2: a lot of it's still fresh in my mind. Four
- 3:13Speaker 2: days from now, I'm not gonna have any idea what happened.
- 3:16Speaker 2: So if you notice anything last week, just let it go.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Just please let it go.
- 3:23Speaker 2: The go thousand plagues are upon the House of Long
- 3:26Speaker 2: Story Shore at this point, exactly exactly.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I have some just a brief news and note no
- 3:33Speaker 1: if you're interested, I am. The ratings for The Way
- 3:36Speaker 1: Home are still holding steady. The episode we're going to
- 3:39Speaker 1: recap right now. Episode six pulled in one point five
- 3:42Speaker 1: million live viewers, zero point one three of the eighteen
- 3:46Speaker 1: to forty nine year old demo, and it ranked twenty
- 3:50Speaker 1: out of the top fifty cable shows for Saturday Sunday night,
- 3:53Speaker 1: February twenty six. Nice, So still holding strong. And know,
- 4:00Speaker 1: I did you know Hamewark Movies and Mysteries had a
- 4:03Speaker 1: new movie on Sunday Night as well. Could not find
- 4:06Speaker 1: it in the top one fifty.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Oh no, I know it was.
- 4:10Speaker 1: A Mahogany movie I admittedly did not watch. But that's
- 4:15Speaker 1: not great.
- 4:16Speaker 2: No, that's a that's not great.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Yeah, anyway, do you want to jump into the Way
- 4:23Speaker 1: Home Episode six?
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah, let's hear a synopsis.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Alrighty can Alice try to stop Jacob's disappearance? Dale realizes
- 4:30Speaker 1: the tragedy of Jacob was not hers alone and the
- 4:33Speaker 1: whole town's and moving towards healing. This is via IMDb.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I'm not really sure who wrote that. Hmm, Okay, it
- 4:43Speaker 1: was the whole town's tragedy, not just hers alone. I
- 4:47Speaker 1: think I think that's what it's trying to say.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Yeah, no, that's how I understand it. Okay, already, A
- 4:55Speaker 2: real quick note about the title of this episode. You know,
- 4:57Speaker 2: last week's episode used a title that was not a
- 5:00Speaker 2: song from the nineties. This week, Building a Mystery is
- 5:04Speaker 2: a Sarah McLachlin song released in nineteen ninety seven, So
- 5:07Speaker 2: we're back on.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Theme, we are. I looked it up to you and
- 5:10Speaker 1: they had a picture of Sarah McLachlin from that time era,
- 5:15Speaker 1: and it was a real late nineties photo like very much,
- 5:20Speaker 1: what was going on on like nine oh two and
- 5:22Speaker 1: oh during that time.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Gosh, total Donna hair.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Alright, yes, that's it, the Donna hairstyles.
- 5:28Speaker 2: You may know this, listeners, there's a heavy nine to
- 5:30Speaker 2: two rewatch happening in my house. And we are in
- 5:33Speaker 2: the post college years when Donna very much had that,
- 5:36Speaker 2: you know, that deep auburn hair with the very complicated
- 5:41Speaker 2: hairstyles often and it was very reminiscent of that, the
- 5:46Speaker 2: zigzag part, the zigzag part.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, we haven't seen that in the way home yet.
- 5:52Speaker 2: No, we haven't. Reading A very gentle look at nineties fashion,
- 5:58Speaker 2: A very i would say, generous take on nineties fashion
- 6:05Speaker 2: and nineties style in that show.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I would agree, which I appreciate me too. Nobody wants
- 6:12Speaker 1: to revisit the big black platform sandals.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Fonk funk funk funk, I still have. You know, I
- 6:24Speaker 2: was in college in the late nineties and I had
- 6:28Speaker 2: those sandals and I wore them. I have vividly remember
- 6:33Speaker 2: there was some event at school. The president of the
- 6:37Speaker 2: university was speaking. We were on bleachers and I had
- 6:40Speaker 2: to leave at some point, and I remember going down
- 6:44Speaker 2: and it was just like echoing through this auditorium. It
- 6:48Speaker 2: was not great.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Those were the kind of shoes that you dressed up
- 6:53Speaker 1: and dressed down right, Absolutely, you were them everywhere.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Those are my fancy shoes.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Oh my god. So let's jump into this episode, episode six,
- 7:05Speaker 1: building a mystery, like you said, It opens with Kat
- 7:08Speaker 1: at the paper and I'm just gonna call it the paper.
- 7:12Speaker 1: She's at the archives or wherever it is that she
- 7:15Speaker 1: works with Byron, and she is that what it's called
- 7:18Speaker 1: the Harald, Thank you. She's researching Jacob's disappearance, and she's
- 7:22Speaker 1: going through all these old newspapers and hear what the
- 7:26Speaker 1: headlines read. The first one was who took Jacob? Jacob's
- 7:29Speaker 1: bike found at Carnival entrance. How did it get there?
- 7:33Speaker 1: No leads. Fisherman finds Jacob's Carnival prize on the shore.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Search ins for a missing eight year old best friend
- 7:40Speaker 1: may have been last person to see missing boy. You know,
- 7:44Speaker 1: I paused every single like I'm impressed, you know, half
- 7:48Speaker 1: a second to read those headlines. I was hoping we
- 7:51Speaker 1: might get a little bit of a insight, and we
- 7:55Speaker 1: got a little bit of foreshadowing. I'll leave it there.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it is a nice honest I will admit I
- 8:02Speaker 2: did not read those that carefully, But that's a nice
- 8:06Speaker 2: little synopsis of the entire episode right there.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Totally totally, and you know, I would like to applaud
- 8:12Speaker 1: the whoever makes the props department for like the effort
- 8:19Speaker 1: into making Yeah, it all look very real, agree, Right?
- 8:23Speaker 1: So Kat's reading everything she's sorting for clues and information
- 8:28Speaker 1: about his disappearance, including Danny's police statement, which I didn't
- 8:32Speaker 1: know eight year olds can write their own police statement.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Don't you think that would have been like a verbal
- 8:39Speaker 1: like and the policeman would have written it down.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I just thought it was a funny, funny take on
- 8:43Speaker 1: that Byron confronts Kats. He's worried that she's working too much,
- 8:48Speaker 1: and he seems genuinely concerned about her. Mm hmm, I
- 8:52Speaker 1: mean maybe her mental health or how much effort she's
- 8:55Speaker 1: putting into this, like getting too wrapped up into.
- 8:57Speaker 2: It, and maybe she should do her actual job.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Yeah, So what happened to that she's not writing stories
- 9:04Speaker 1: for the Herald anymore, She's just using the paper for
- 9:08Speaker 1: her own private research.
- 9:10Speaker 2: It's unclear to me.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Yeah, Sokat has this memory of like when Jacob first
- 9:14Speaker 1: goes missing at the carnival, and she packs up and
- 9:17Speaker 1: leaves the.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Office, and then we flash back to nineteen ninety nine
- 9:21Speaker 2: and we see Kat and Jacob and Danny playing on
- 9:25Speaker 2: the beach and Nick and Alis sitting and Alice is
- 9:28Speaker 2: real salty. She's being very cold to Nick because he
- 9:32Speaker 2: didn't show up in the future, right, And you know,
- 9:36Speaker 2: she's being very fifteen years old in this moment, asked
- 9:39Speaker 2: right how he feels about her, and he says he's
- 9:42Speaker 2: into her big time, and she goes, what about for
- 9:44Speaker 2: a long time? And I'm just, oh, Alice. It's a
- 9:49Speaker 2: very awkward moment, and I just a'm honestly both surprised
- 9:54Speaker 2: and not surprise that she's carried this future resentment back
- 9:57Speaker 2: to the past. Right, Nick hasn't done anything to you,
- 10:02Speaker 2: and there's no way to know the circumstances that future
- 10:05Speaker 2: Nick is bringing into the picture exactly.
- 10:08Speaker 1: It's it's unfair to blame teenage Nick for something that
- 10:12Speaker 1: it's supposed to happen thirty years from now.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Especially because in the next moment, Kat comes over and
- 10:18Speaker 2: checks in. She's like, I'm trying to give you guys
- 10:19Speaker 2: some alone time, but you're obviously blowing it over here,
- 10:23Speaker 2: and Alice continues to be a super bummer. She says, well,
- 10:25Speaker 2: Nick's just unreliable, and I just think you know people
- 10:29Speaker 2: in glasshouses, Alice, because nobody ever knows when you're gonna
- 10:32Speaker 2: show how high there exactly.
- 10:33Speaker 1: And we get some more of that later in the episode.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I just thought it was so funny. Nick is like
- 10:38Speaker 1: totally weirded out by this conversation. You know, rightly so,
- 10:43Speaker 1: and like this is why like fifteen year olds break up.
- 10:47Speaker 1: They have like terrible, terrible communication skills, right, Like you
- 10:50Speaker 1: don't say, like where are we at?
- 10:52Speaker 3: Girl?
- 10:52Speaker 2: You just started like seeing.
- 10:54Speaker 1: This guy, like stop asking for like what's happening next?
- 10:58Speaker 1: Can you agree?
- 10:59Speaker 2: Even give him your phone number?
- 11:01Speaker 1: Right exactly? He knows nothing about you.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Right So to your point, the communication is terrible and
- 11:08Speaker 2: where she tried to communicate, well, I'm mad because in
- 11:11Speaker 2: twenty twenty three you did not show up for me.
- 11:14Speaker 2: I mean, it's all kind of a mess.
- 11:17Speaker 1: It is a mess. It is a mess. We see
- 11:20Speaker 1: right here at the end of the scene, kat is
- 11:21Speaker 1: annoyed with Danny and Jacob because they are getting too
- 11:25Speaker 1: close to the ocean water and you know, she's trying
- 11:27Speaker 1: to keep eyes on them and whatever, and that's the
- 11:30Speaker 1: end of that scene, and.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Then we flash back to the same beach back in
- 11:33Speaker 2: the present day. Dell is listening to a voicemail from
- 11:37Speaker 2: It was unclear to me in the moment who it
- 11:39Speaker 2: was from, but we learn shortly thereafter that it was
- 11:42Speaker 2: Monica on the phone talking about wanting to bring the
- 11:44Speaker 2: carnival back. And I was kind of surprised to learn
- 11:46Speaker 2: that the carnival has been gone for as long as
- 11:49Speaker 2: Jacob has been gone. And we get a brief flashback
- 11:52Speaker 2: to Dell sobbing on that same beach in nineteen ninety nine.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Right now, let me ask you, if hypothetically you were
- 12:02Speaker 1: to lose a child at a local town carnival, would
- 12:06Speaker 1: you expect the carnival not to resume the following thirty years.
- 12:12Speaker 2: I would not expect that, to know, right, I know.
- 12:14Speaker 1: It was kind of weird, how like they were so
- 12:18Speaker 1: considerate of Dell's tragedy. I guess yes, And I guess
- 12:24Speaker 1: it just kind of surprised me because I don't think
- 12:27Speaker 1: we would really see that in not certainly my town.
- 12:32Speaker 2: The carnival didn't take Jacob the date is going to
- 12:34Speaker 2: continue to live on the calendar. I don't know. Of course,
- 12:39Speaker 2: You're right that it is a considerate move, and it's
- 12:42Speaker 2: an effective plot point here in this episode. I just
- 12:47Speaker 2: I'm not so sure that that's a terribly realistic action
- 12:50Speaker 2: that's going to happen, definitely, because agree, everything that we
- 12:54Speaker 2: know the carnival was incidental there. It wasn't like an
- 12:59Speaker 2: accident related to the carnival specifically, Yes, he was pointing
- 13:05Speaker 2: hurt on a carnival ride. He wasn't hurt as far
- 13:08Speaker 2: as we know at the carnival, right, The carnival just
- 13:10Speaker 2: happened to be incidentally happening in the background.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I mean, Okay, though though we don't know, they do
- 13:18Speaker 1: think perhaps that Jacob was kidnapped. What if the carnival
- 13:22Speaker 1: brought strangers to the town. You see where I'm going
- 13:27Speaker 1: with this.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Sure, but this is a town that still relies on
- 13:29Speaker 2: tourism and is we know from lobster Fest just previously,
- 13:33Speaker 2: they're still welcoming strangers into the town.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Very fair, But it's a good plot point. I agree,
- 13:40Speaker 1: that's a good plot point, and we see that in
- 13:42Speaker 1: this episode. Next scene where in present days still rita
- 13:45Speaker 1: cat and Dell are at the Landryes in the kitchen.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Rita is annoyed with Monica's efforts to bring the carnival
- 13:52Speaker 1: well back. Rita is Rita, I think here and in
- 13:59Speaker 1: one of the best scenes I've seen, talk about a
- 14:02Speaker 1: realistic scene, Alice comes downstairs, joins him in the kitchen,
- 14:06Speaker 1: and Kat says good morning to her. She simply says
- 14:09Speaker 1: good morning, Ali, and Alice turns and gives her the
- 14:13Speaker 1: greatest teenage eye roll.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Totally.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I was like, if that's not realistic, like just for
- 14:19Speaker 1: simply saying good morning, Yeah, yeah, I thought it was great.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Elliott shows up and he's asking about baskets or something.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I'm not even quite sure what he was asking for.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I was watching the subtitles. I still don't know what
- 14:31Speaker 1: he was asking for. I don't think it's relevant to
- 14:35Speaker 1: this episode at all. Byron calls Dell, and I'm thinking,
- 14:39Speaker 1: who is calling so early in the morning. It's like
- 14:41Speaker 1: Grand Central station in his kitchen right now? Seriously, And
- 14:44Speaker 1: then we see that because Dell is just like over it.
- 14:48Speaker 1: She's over the overlapping chatter and she just wants peace
- 14:51Speaker 1: and quiet. Rita's poking her about Dell. I mean Rita
- 14:55Speaker 1: is poking Dell about Byron and uh, it's she just
- 15:01Speaker 1: wants to peace and quiet.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Yep, she bounces.
- 15:05Speaker 1: She does. Now. Kat ask Elliott for advice here and
- 15:07Speaker 1: he gives her the cold shoulder about the whole Brady
- 15:09Speaker 1: thing at the dance. But she really needs to talk
- 15:13Speaker 1: to him about how to save Jacob and she has
- 15:16Speaker 1: this plan and she needs his help and you can
- 15:18Speaker 1: see on his face like he doesn't want to do it,
- 15:20Speaker 1: but he also can't resist helping her, m m because
- 15:24Speaker 1: he loves her, right.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and he also loved Jacob too. I mean, obviously
- 15:31Speaker 2: this is something that has affected him. I find it
- 15:34Speaker 2: really interesting how little we get about the Cat and
- 15:40Speaker 2: Brady moment from last episode. You know, Alice brings it
- 15:43Speaker 2: up to her momentarily, and it's very much brushed aside,
- 15:47Speaker 2: both Cat to Alice and Cat to Elliott. It's like
- 15:50Speaker 2: this is it's very much done at this point anyway.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Right, I mean, I don't know how much to have
- 16:00Speaker 1: a topic of conversation. It would be in my home
- 16:03Speaker 1: if like my daughter saw me kissing like my ex, like,
- 16:07Speaker 1: it wouldn't be would it be like a family conversation?
- 16:12Speaker 1: Is that what we're.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Expecting she and Elliott needed to have a better conversation
- 16:16Speaker 2: about it. There's not a lot of communication happening there.
- 16:19Speaker 2: You know, he's clearly up in this moment, Like you said,
- 16:21Speaker 2: he's clearly upset. And She's like, yeah, yeah, fine, that
- 16:24Speaker 2: was meetingless, but that's not what I want to talk
- 16:26Speaker 2: to you about him. I needed to put that aside
- 16:27Speaker 2: because I have something else we need to get into.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Right And that's what kind of bugs me sometimes about
- 16:32Speaker 1: adult cat is that she doesn't have a lot of
- 16:35Speaker 1: like self awareness. Yes, but you know, the bigger picture
- 16:40Speaker 1: for her right now is getting to Jacob and helping
- 16:44Speaker 1: Jacob in the past. Yes.
- 16:46Speaker 2: We cut to the point Monica's talking to Dell about
- 16:50Speaker 2: the carnival, and Monica's explaining the reason she wants to
- 16:52Speaker 2: bring it back for the town, all great reasons, specifically
- 16:56Speaker 2: it's good for the town, it's good for tourism. But
- 16:58Speaker 2: she talks about how she keeps posters up and they
- 17:00Speaker 2: keep getting ripped down. And the editing of this is
- 17:04Speaker 2: lovely because Danny walks in and it seems very clear
- 17:06Speaker 2: to me who might be ripping down these posters.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Either, you're smart, I didn't notice it until much later.
- 17:14Speaker 2: I just felt like it was very.
- 17:16Speaker 1: You know, coincidental.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Yes, I thought it was nice, A nice little hint there.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Monica retrieves some more posters for him to put back up,
- 17:27Speaker 2: and Delle approaches him and lets him know it's not
- 17:31Speaker 2: her ripping down the posters, And I wrote in all
- 17:34Speaker 2: caps at this point in my notes, is it Danny?
- 17:36Speaker 1: So I.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Had my suspicions in that moment. And Dell throughout this
- 17:43Speaker 2: episode is very sweet and lovely to Danny. There's no
- 17:48Speaker 2: reason she shouldn't be, she always hasn't. But I don't know.
- 17:51Speaker 2: I really enjoyed the way she is with him in
- 17:54Speaker 2: this episode.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I wrote down that she's very soft and kind
- 17:58Speaker 1: to Danny. Yes, but it doesn't make me wonder I
- 18:01Speaker 1: was like, oh, does Dale know something we don't know,
- 18:04Speaker 1: Like she knows that Danny was not a part of
- 18:08Speaker 1: Jacob's you know, disappearance.
- 18:10Speaker 2: But I wondered that too. But I think it's more
- 18:14Speaker 2: that Dell was the mother of an eight year old
- 18:17Speaker 2: boy who, you know, Danny cannot be expected to carry
- 18:22Speaker 2: the weight of the loss of his best friend, and
- 18:25Speaker 2: she doesn't want him to carry the guilt of that
- 18:29Speaker 2: that's how I see it.
- 18:31Speaker 1: I agree with you. I agree with you. Okay. Next thing,
- 18:36Speaker 1: we have Cat and she has a murder board. Basically,
- 18:40Speaker 1: she's showing Elliott what she's put together. And this is
- 18:43Speaker 1: in the basement of the Landry home and she tells Elliott.
- 18:47Speaker 1: She explains that there was two theories to Jacob's disappearance,
- 18:50Speaker 1: one he was kidnapped or two he fell into the
- 18:52Speaker 1: ocean from the cliff. But she wants to explore all
- 18:55Speaker 1: the theories, including the White Witch, to which Elliott replies
- 18:59Speaker 1: that that's insane and I wrote, no more insane than
- 19:02Speaker 1: time traveling, dude.
- 19:04Speaker 2: But okay a pond, yes.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I like how Elliot could be like, oh no, no, no, no,
- 19:09Speaker 1: We're not gonna go down that route. That's just nope,
- 19:12Speaker 1: scientifically impossible exactly. Another clue she's questioning is why Jacob's
- 19:17Speaker 1: bike is at the carnival, and this, my friends, is
- 19:19Speaker 1: called foreshadowing. We learn why later. She also claims that
- 19:24Speaker 1: Brady has taken both Cat and Jacob to the carnival,
- 19:27Speaker 1: so why was the bike there? We will find out.
- 19:31Speaker 1: She also tells Elliott that she's going to use all
- 19:33Speaker 1: this information she's gathered to save Jacob in the past
- 19:36Speaker 1: when she goes back to ninety nine and Elliott he's
- 19:39Speaker 1: frustrated with Kat. He doesn't believe the Pond will take
- 19:43Speaker 1: her back to this exact time, and she thinks the
- 19:46Speaker 1: Pond has a reason. Basically what they come to in
- 19:51Speaker 1: this conclusion that he tells her that what she is
- 19:53Speaker 1: doing isn't healthy, her obsession over this isn't healthy.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Yeah, And I just want to point out this is
- 20:00Speaker 2: a show that was well planned from start to finish,
- 20:03Speaker 2: because we have been seeing the images of the bike
- 20:06Speaker 2: since the very beginning.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Yes, ma'am.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Wasn't a show that they figured out the details as
- 20:12Speaker 2: they went along. They've been laying that groundwork, which I
- 20:15Speaker 2: really like. And now we're just getting information about why
- 20:17Speaker 2: that bike picture is significant.
- 20:19Speaker 1: So yeah, it's almost like a movie, don't you think so?
- 20:22Speaker 1: Like I think this it's hard to plan out an
- 20:26Speaker 1: entire season with all these like I'm not gonna call
- 20:32Speaker 1: them easter eggs, but all this like information that has
- 20:34Speaker 1: been like shown to the audience since episode one, because
- 20:40Speaker 1: I know a lot of like seasons are written like
- 20:44Speaker 1: as they go as they go, But yeah, I wonder
- 20:48Speaker 1: how long this the series has been like ready, like
- 20:51Speaker 1: ready to go, Like when did they finish it? Anyway,
- 20:54Speaker 1: that's just a side note. We are back at the
- 20:58Speaker 1: Landry Farm and Alison Cat in the kitchen. Alice is
- 21:01Speaker 1: still clearly annoyed with her mom. She's annoyed about Brady,
- 21:05Speaker 1: She's annoyed that Kat was dancing with Elliott at the dance.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Kat just brushes it all off, and she really wants
- 21:13Speaker 1: Alice to talk to her about the boys in her life.
- 21:16Speaker 1: I mean, obviously she's asking about Nick, but without asking specifically.
- 21:21Speaker 1: And Spencer gets brought up and here, hello, she says,
- 21:25Speaker 1: Spencer has a girlfriend.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Do you think she was just trying to brush Cat off?
- 21:33Speaker 1: Or is that Zoe girl really Spencer's girlfriend.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Oh that's a good question. I just assumed Zoe was
- 21:39Speaker 2: his girlfriend and this was our confirmation. But it may
- 21:41Speaker 2: just be your point too, just trying to get rid
- 21:47Speaker 2: of her her mom off the scent?
- 21:48Speaker 1: Right, But then this is such a side note. But
- 21:53Speaker 1: then shame wont Spencer because he's very flirty with Alice?
- 21:56Speaker 2: Uh right, a little bit? Is he flirty or is
- 22:01Speaker 2: he just friendly?
- 22:02Speaker 1: I don't be a bully's cute?
- 22:06Speaker 2: Uh?
- 22:07Speaker 1: My fifteen year old self would mix those same signals
- 22:10Speaker 1: up to your show. I'm sure, I don't know that.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 22:14Speaker 2: So Dell arrives home in this moment, and there's more
- 22:18Speaker 2: talk about the posters being ripped down, and they talk
- 22:23Speaker 2: briefly about Danny, and we cut to Cat adding a
- 22:26Speaker 2: picture of Danny to her murder board, and we get
- 22:29Speaker 2: a flashback to young Danny after the disappearance. So all
- 22:34Speaker 2: of this is building up to what is Danny's involvement?
- 22:37Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. And next thing, we see Dell making pottery,
- 22:41Speaker 1: Which where did that come from? Like, has she ever
- 22:43Speaker 1: made pottery before in an episode? No, she's just you know,
- 22:48Speaker 1: spinning her days after usually throwing a pot pottery wheel.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Is this a throw to the uh ghost? What did
- 22:57Speaker 1: that was in the eighties? That movie came out? Right?
- 23:02Speaker 2: I didn't, I don't think. So, you know, things all right?
- 23:07Speaker 1: Byron her eyes and Delle apologizes for how bad their
- 23:11Speaker 1: date went at the roxy and how the memories were
- 23:16Speaker 1: triggered from the slide show and blah blah blah, and
- 23:20Speaker 1: Byron he's unaffected by this, and he instead tells her
- 23:23Speaker 1: that he's worried about Kat. And so the next thing
- 23:26Speaker 1: we see del runs down to the basement Catherine, Catherine,
- 23:29Speaker 1: she's looking for Cat and what does she discover? The
- 23:32Speaker 1: murder board.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Yeah, she's naturally freaked out and in walks Cat and
- 23:37Speaker 2: we cut to a commercial in this moment, but we
- 23:39Speaker 2: come back to Dell confronting Cat about the board, and
- 23:43Speaker 2: she wants her to let it go, but Kat is
- 23:45Speaker 2: convinced there's something they've missed. And you know, what Dell
- 23:49Speaker 2: doesn't know is Cat or what we don't know if
- 23:53Speaker 2: Dell knows, is that Kat feels like if she figures
- 23:56Speaker 2: out what they missed, she can fix it, if she
- 23:58Speaker 2: can go back to that point time. Kat's currently focused
- 24:02Speaker 2: on the fact that Danny kept changing his story. This
- 24:05Speaker 2: is unremarkable to me because I know eight year olds.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Danny's an eight year old freaked out by talking to
- 24:11Speaker 2: the police. Delle makes the point that he was in shock,
- 24:15Speaker 2: but Kat wants to schuck Danny. Dell absolutely does not
- 24:19Speaker 2: want this to happen, but insists on joining her if
- 24:22Speaker 2: she's going to do that. And this is a real
- 24:25Speaker 2: zinger right here. She says, I don't want you to
- 24:28Speaker 2: ask cruel and hurtful questions, And Kat says cruel and hurtful.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Is that what you think a journalist does? And Dell says,
- 24:34Speaker 2: maybe not, but I bet you do. Yeah, that was
- 24:37Speaker 2: yi ouch.
- 24:39Speaker 1: I mean Delle has a sharp tongue sometimes coming in hot.
- 24:45Speaker 1: We're in nineteen ninety nine in the next scene and
- 24:47Speaker 1: Kat and Alice are in Cat's bedroom and they're talking
- 24:50Speaker 1: about Nick. Kat ribs are a little bit for being
- 24:52Speaker 1: unreliable because of her inconsistent showings. I guess when she
- 24:58Speaker 1: comes to town, Cat tells Alice that Brady is coming
- 25:01Speaker 1: into town for the Fall carnival. And this is where
- 25:04Speaker 1: Alice learns that the carnival is coming up this weekend,
- 25:08Speaker 1: and so she's like, I gotta go. She bounces out
- 25:10Speaker 1: of there. She goes over to see Elliott about and
- 25:14Speaker 1: talk to them about the carnival coming that she needs
- 25:16Speaker 1: to be there for it. And here's where she asks
- 25:20Speaker 1: young Elliott to keep an eye on Jacob. Like she
- 25:25Speaker 1: tells them, I don't know if I'm going to be
- 25:27Speaker 1: back for certain I need you to keep and eye.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Promise me that you will watch him.
- 25:33Speaker 2: This is one of the many moments in the show
- 25:36Speaker 2: where I understand for the plot why things weren't different
- 25:40Speaker 2: but I wished, as a person who cares about these characters,
- 25:44Speaker 2: that they had acted differently, Like I wish she had
- 25:47Speaker 2: let Elliott in on the reason why she was asking
- 25:50Speaker 2: him to care for Jacob, and then things might have
- 25:52Speaker 2: been different.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Right, I mean, why would she keep it a secret
- 25:58Speaker 1: at this point? I mean, we do see later on
- 26:00Speaker 1: and we'll get to it. She does tell young Elliott
- 26:02Speaker 1: like what's up? But why wouldn't she tell him now
- 26:06Speaker 1: prepare him for it.
- 26:08Speaker 2: That's a great question because I know, you know, she
- 26:11Speaker 2: doesn't want to give him too much information about the future.
- 26:15Speaker 2: I don't think that's super healthy. But knowing what we know,
- 26:19Speaker 2: I feel like this is important information for him to have,
- 26:21Speaker 2: particularly knowing that she doesn't have any control over when
- 26:26Speaker 2: she comes back. So in our next scene, we're in
- 26:30Speaker 2: Danny's house in the present day, and we learn that
- 26:32Speaker 2: Danny lives in his parents' house, although they have since
- 26:35Speaker 2: moved to Florida, and Kat starts by gently asking him
- 26:39Speaker 2: questions about the day Jacob disappeared, but she pretty quickly
- 26:43Speaker 2: ramps up to reminding him that his story has changed.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Dale keeps butting in on Kat's questions, but Kat tells
- 26:51Speaker 2: Danny that they are witnesses that said maybe he and
- 26:54Speaker 2: Jacob were fighting. Cat and Dell argue for a minute,
- 26:57Speaker 2: and Danny finally starts talking and telling his story of
- 27:02Speaker 2: that day, and he says that he cannot shake it,
- 27:06Speaker 2: and the reason that he lied is because he wasn't
- 27:08Speaker 2: supposed to be there. He was grounded, he had not
- 27:11Speaker 2: done his chores, and he went anyway, and he tells
- 27:15Speaker 2: the story which we'll later see that he snuck into
- 27:17Speaker 2: the carnival and Jacob had won a stuffed toy, and
- 27:20Speaker 2: in the way of eight year old boys, Danny ran
- 27:23Speaker 2: up and took it from him, and they chased each
- 27:25Speaker 2: other back and forth with it, and ultimately Danny threw
- 27:29Speaker 2: it off the cliffs, because that's the kind of thing
- 27:31Speaker 2: eight year old boys do. They antagonize each other, and
- 27:36Speaker 2: Jacob says he's gonna go for it, and Danny double
- 27:39Speaker 2: dog dares him to go for it, and in this
- 27:42Speaker 2: moment thinks he sees his parents and takes off for home,
- 27:46Speaker 2: and that was the last time that he saw Jacob,
- 27:49Speaker 2: and he carries a lot of guilt with him for
- 27:51Speaker 2: his eight year old boy actions.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Right, and then Kat doesn't help here because she says
- 27:56Speaker 1: like she's very annoyed at the story, and she's like,
- 27:59Speaker 1: we could have been looking in the right spot all
- 28:01Speaker 1: these years. And I'm like, what, like, don't pilot on
- 28:06Speaker 1: the poor guy, like he obviously feels guilty about it.
- 28:09Speaker 2: I thought that was a very hurtful statement on Cat's part.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Dell thanks him for his honesty and tells them not
- 28:17Speaker 2: to let the guilt dictate his life. And in this moment,
- 28:20Speaker 2: we see the torn up carnival posters in the fireplace.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Yeah, obviously Danny doesn't want the Carnival coming back. It's
- 28:28Speaker 1: too heavy for him. Yes, well, yeah, I thought Delle
- 28:31Speaker 1: was like so sweet and kind in this moment to Danny.
- 28:36Speaker 1: And I also felt that the actor playing Danny, it
- 28:42Speaker 1: was a really emotional scene and he was crying, and
- 28:45Speaker 1: I just thought it was very well acted.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Agree.
- 28:50Speaker 1: And the next scene, we have Kat and Elliott in
- 28:52Speaker 1: the basement. This is present day. She's telling him that
- 28:56Speaker 1: she needs to go back and change things and he
- 29:00Speaker 1: tells her Alice tried to change things too, and it
- 29:03Speaker 1: didn't make a difference. That I'm guessing he's referring to
- 29:07Speaker 1: when she asked him to watch Jacob, right. I think
- 29:11Speaker 1: so so they talk through the timeline. He tells her
- 29:15Speaker 1: that Alice is there right now in nineteen ninety nine
- 29:18Speaker 1: for the carnival. And this is where my brain can't
- 29:21Speaker 1: quite understand how Elliott knows so much about this like
- 29:24Speaker 1: non linear timeline. Mm hmm, Like he's the only one
- 29:28Speaker 1: who has the full understanding of it and is And
- 29:33Speaker 1: maybe it's just because, like I have, I struggle with
- 29:35Speaker 1: all that part of the show, and I just think
- 29:38Speaker 1: I'm just supposed to just let it go.
- 29:41Speaker 2: I also, this portion of the episode is very frenzied.
- 29:46Speaker 2: There's a lot of back and forth, and it's very
- 29:48Speaker 2: fast paced, and the music is very suspenseful, and it
- 29:51Speaker 2: kind of gets your brain moving faster than the story
- 29:54Speaker 2: is moving.
- 29:55Speaker 1: I absolutely one hundred percent agree. So we see here
- 30:00Speaker 1: after this conversation with Elliott, Kat takes off for the pond,
- 30:03Speaker 1: jumps back into nineteen ninety nine, and.
- 30:07Speaker 2: She emerges wet from the woods to see everyone driving
- 30:10Speaker 2: off on Brady's in Brady's car to the carnival, and
- 30:13Speaker 2: she hops on Jacob's bike. That's right there.
- 30:17Speaker 1: That's right back in present day now we are. Alice
- 30:21Speaker 1: runs up, she sees Elliott. He's confused that she's back.
- 30:26Speaker 1: She tells him that time has jumped forward a month
- 30:30Speaker 1: since she was last there and that the carnival was
- 30:32Speaker 1: this weekend, and I, I just can I we just
- 30:35Speaker 1: pause right here, because watching this scene unfold, I feel
- 30:42Speaker 1: like it potentially could have been out of order in
- 30:47Speaker 1: the episode. And this is why the scene. Prior to this,
- 30:51Speaker 1: Elliott had just told adult Cat that Alice was there
- 30:54Speaker 1: for the carnival, and that's why Cat ran off to
- 30:57Speaker 1: jump back to nineteen ninety nine because the carnival was
- 31:01Speaker 1: happening then, right, But now we see Alice emerging and saying, like,
- 31:07Speaker 1: the Carnival's happening this weekend, Like so he knew this
- 31:14Speaker 1: information before Alice told him.
- 31:19Speaker 2: I do find these two conversations confusing, and it's confusing
- 31:24Speaker 2: to me if he's saying, like I I know, because
- 31:27Speaker 2: he says Alice is there for the carnival. Is he
- 31:31Speaker 2: saying Alice is there right now for the carnival or
- 31:34Speaker 2: in nineteen ninety nine Alice is there for the carnival?
- 31:36Speaker 2: She is there, do you know what I'm saying? I
- 31:41Speaker 2: do was there and she was there too. So I
- 31:43Speaker 2: do think that is confusing and perhaps a little bit
- 31:47Speaker 2: intentionally so, because Alice has just come back and when
- 31:52Speaker 2: she was in nineteen ninety nine, she was a few
- 31:54Speaker 2: days ahead of the carnival. She's come out of the woods.
- 31:56Speaker 2: She's going to turn around, jump back in the pond,
- 31:58Speaker 2: and fast forward several days while in real time, no
- 32:03Speaker 2: time has actually passed, right.
- 32:05Speaker 1: It's super confusing.
- 32:07Speaker 2: It is, And this is where it kind of ends
- 32:09Speaker 2: like that. Okay, now we're pretty steadily in a good
- 32:16Speaker 2: timeline place at this point. Once Alice goes back to
- 32:19Speaker 2: the day of the carnival.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Yes, And during this conversation right before it ends, Elliott
- 32:25Speaker 1: tells Alice what happened on that day. She finally tells
- 32:29Speaker 1: him wait.
- 32:30Speaker 2: What no, no, no. So Alice is talking to Adule Elliott,
- 32:34Speaker 2: and she says, why didn't net work when I asked
- 32:36Speaker 2: you to protect Jacob? He says, Brady ditched him on
- 32:39Speaker 2: the way to the carnival, so by the time he
- 32:40Speaker 2: and Alice arrived at the carnival, it was too late.
- 32:43Speaker 2: And Elliott says to himself, what happened has always happened,
- 32:47Speaker 2: You'll be late, And Alice turns around and runs back
- 32:49Speaker 2: to the pond.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Exactly so is this some epiphany that we need to understand.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Now what happened will always happen, Like Jacob's going to
- 32:56Speaker 1: go missing no matter what I mean.
- 32:58Speaker 2: I think, Yes, that is what we're meant to believe,
- 33:01Speaker 2: although I still feel like there's some big reveal coming
- 33:05Speaker 2: I hope.
- 33:05Speaker 1: So h okay. So now we're back in nineteen ninety
- 33:09Speaker 1: nine and adult Cat arrives to the carnival on the bike,
- 33:13Speaker 1: throws the bike down, and then as she steps away,
- 33:16Speaker 1: realizes that she was the one who put the bike there.
- 33:20Speaker 1: It was me.
- 33:21Speaker 2: I was here, I was always here.
- 33:22Speaker 3: It was me.
- 33:23Speaker 1: I was here, I was always here, and then runs
- 33:24Speaker 1: off to the carnival. Yeah. And then like my brain
- 33:27Speaker 1: just is like melting down, like how were you there before? Yeah?
- 33:31Speaker 1: Like I can't. I just I just have to just
- 33:35Speaker 1: enjoy the show. I can't analyze it. I agree, these
- 33:39Speaker 1: things are not truly explainable, so I just have to
- 33:42Speaker 1: go with it.
- 33:43Speaker 2: We also get a shot of Alice and Elliott as
- 33:45Speaker 2: Alice is arriving in nineteen ninety nine the day of
- 33:48Speaker 2: the carnival. Alice is panicking, and she at this point
- 33:50Speaker 2: tells Elliott why she had asked him to watch Jacob
- 33:53Speaker 2: and they take off on Elliott's bike to the carnival.
- 33:57Speaker 2: This next scene is really in congres us from everything
- 34:00Speaker 2: that has come before it because it's a real fun
- 34:02Speaker 2: like carnival scene. Colton is in the dunk tank. There's
- 34:05Speaker 2: lots of landry family smiles. They're all enjoying themselves. But
- 34:11Speaker 2: then we cut to adult Cat searching for Jacob. She
- 34:13Speaker 2: needs to get eyes on him, and she finds him.
- 34:17Speaker 2: She watches him board the ferris wheel. Cat loads him
- 34:20Speaker 2: on the ferris wheel. He really wants to ride on
- 34:22Speaker 2: his own, so young Cat's loading him on. Adult Cat
- 34:25Speaker 2: is watching from afar, and Cat and Brady are going
- 34:29Speaker 2: to get on the ferris wheel after and they say,
- 34:32Speaker 2: you know, wait for me when you get off. Now
- 34:33Speaker 2: this seems super reasonable. This is a small town carnival.
- 34:38Speaker 2: Your eight year old brother can wait until you get
- 34:41Speaker 2: off as the next person. Right, Yeah, I agree, But
- 34:46Speaker 2: the suspenseful music happening behind that scene is really making
- 34:51Speaker 2: me like Cat get closer, Adult Cat, get closer to
- 34:55Speaker 2: the ferris wheel. You're going to lose him.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Yes, totally.
- 35:00Speaker 2: A lot happens. Jacob drops his dog, He yells for Cat,
- 35:04Speaker 2: who is too busy making out with Brady and she
- 35:06Speaker 2: doesn't hear him, and so when he gets off of
- 35:10Speaker 2: the ferris wheel, he runs after his dog and there's
- 35:12Speaker 2: a brief moment where Cat Cat finds him. And there's
- 35:15Speaker 2: a lot of moments in this episode that you're like,
- 35:18Speaker 2: but that's not it. Jacob like sneaks through the gates
- 35:21Speaker 2: of the carnival ride to get his dog and then
- 35:24Speaker 2: Cat cannot find him. We do see Jacob on his
- 35:28Speaker 2: own walking through the carnival and we see Danny finding
- 35:30Speaker 2: Jacob in the moment he tell the women about earlier
- 35:34Speaker 2: and they sneak into the Haunted Forest attraction. Alice has
- 35:38Speaker 2: found Young Cat and Young Brady and they tell him
- 35:42Speaker 2: that Jacob is missing, and she wants to tell Dell
- 35:45Speaker 2: and Colton, and Cat and Brady don't because they do
- 35:48Speaker 2: not want to get in trouble. So Alice is more
- 35:52Speaker 2: motivated and Elliott in this moment to find Jacob because
- 35:55Speaker 2: they know what's at stake.
- 35:56Speaker 1: And.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Cat breaks in to the haunt wors attraction. Alice breaks
- 36:02Speaker 2: into the Hauness Borest attraction. Alice catches a glimpse of
- 36:06Speaker 2: Cat In this moment, a lot is happening. They're all
- 36:09Speaker 2: looking for Jacob. They're searching for him. It's very suspenseful.
- 36:12Speaker 2: There's a lot going on, and at some point it's
- 36:15Speaker 2: now nighttime.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Yeah, that was fast time. How much time has passed?
- 36:19Speaker 2: And this is when they alert Dell and Colton and
- 36:22Speaker 2: the search continues.
- 36:24Speaker 1: So now we see adult cat and she's walking to
- 36:27Speaker 1: the cliff area looking for Jacob based on Danny's story.
- 36:30Speaker 1: She's like, he's supposed to be here, and then she
- 36:34Speaker 1: sees that the stuffed animal is already floating in the
- 36:37Speaker 1: ocean below, and she says, I'm too late. And then
- 36:40Speaker 1: but she catches Jacob walking off in a distance and
- 36:43Speaker 1: tells him to stop. And I'm like, stranger, danger, man.
- 36:47Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm surprised that Jacob like even engaged in
- 36:52Speaker 1: a conversation with this lady he does not know seriously,
- 36:56Speaker 1: But I am a child at the eighties, so maybe
- 36:59Speaker 1: that's just rained in me.
- 37:01Speaker 2: She does tell him she's Alice's mom.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I like that. She explains that, like, I'm Alice's mom,
- 37:07Speaker 1: your sister's friends, you know whatever. Like that was that
- 37:10Speaker 1: was good. She asks if he's okay, and he says
- 37:13Speaker 1: that he's going home, and she's like, well, maybe let's
- 37:16Speaker 1: go find your parents, and he's like, nah, I'm just
- 37:18Speaker 1: gonna go home, which is like really funny, Like you
- 37:20Speaker 1: don't let your eight Like an eight year old is
- 37:23Speaker 1: not going to walk home alone in the dark from
- 37:25Speaker 1: some carnival. I don't care what town you live in.
- 37:28Speaker 1: It just does not seem plausible to me. But whatever,
- 37:33Speaker 1: she convinces him, like, hey, can I walk home with you?
- 37:35Speaker 1: She wants to make sure that he gets back to
- 37:37Speaker 1: the house safely, and and they take off. Next thing,
- 37:45Speaker 1: we see Dell is telling young Cat to go home
- 37:48Speaker 1: to see if Jacob is there here. I think we
- 37:52Speaker 1: really see Dell is unhappy with Kat that she let
- 37:58Speaker 1: Jacob out of her sight.
- 38:00Speaker 2: You know, that's interesting because when Kat agrees to go home,
- 38:04Speaker 2: Dell to me in that moment, actually didn't seem angry
- 38:07Speaker 2: with her. She was like, thank you, honey, like she
- 38:10Speaker 2: mm hmm. I feel like she rains in her frustration
- 38:13Speaker 2: at the end of that conversation. But it is a
- 38:16Speaker 2: smart move to send somebody to the house. But Cat
- 38:19Speaker 2: naturally feels very responsible for him going missing.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Well maybe I'm reading into it because like in the
- 38:26Speaker 1: first you know, one or two episodes, at the beginning
- 38:30Speaker 1: of the series, Like I thought Dell was unhappy with Kat,
- 38:34Speaker 1: Like I thought their whole falling out was based over Jacob,
- 38:37Speaker 1: like based on his disappearance, like Dell blamed Cat for it.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Maybe I'm wrong. I still truly don't understand what their
- 38:47Speaker 1: whole you know beef was about.
- 38:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think we know what I suspect there's
- 38:53Speaker 2: a lot of blame Cat has placed on herself and
- 38:55Speaker 2: that has affected a lot of her relationship.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Yeah, but come on, Dell, if you are so kind
- 38:59Speaker 1: and off to Danny and tells him not to blame
- 39:02Speaker 1: himself for it, she should also do the same with Kat, then,
- 39:05Speaker 1: how you think? And maybe there's some resentment there from Kat.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Oh sure that she hasn't gotten the same grace that
- 39:14Speaker 1: Dell has given to other people.
- 39:16Speaker 2: This next scene is very emotional for me. Kat's walking
- 39:19Speaker 2: with young Jacob and talking to him about his photography,
- 39:22Speaker 2: and he's talking about his sister and how they're gonna
- 39:24Speaker 2: work together. And Kat tells Jacob that Alice tells her
- 39:29Speaker 2: how much Kat loves Jacob, and I think this is
- 39:32Speaker 2: a really sweet opportunity for her to make sure Jacob
- 39:36Speaker 2: knows how much he's loved. And they arrive home and
- 39:41Speaker 2: Brady's cars there, and so Kat just sends them on
- 39:43Speaker 2: in the house and Jacob runs in, and then Kat
- 39:46Speaker 2: runs off and I think again, act differently.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Please, what would you have liked to stay in and see?
- 39:53Speaker 2: And said, I would like to have seen him reunite
- 39:56Speaker 2: with some authority figure, with his sister, with Brady, with
- 39:59Speaker 2: some I know he gets in the house, and in
- 40:03Speaker 2: a normal circumstance that would be fine, but in this
- 40:06Speaker 2: child disappeared without a trace. I would want to see
- 40:09Speaker 2: someone see him.
- 40:11Speaker 1: I would agree with you, Like she just let it go.
- 40:16Speaker 1: She should have peeked through the window or something like
- 40:19Speaker 1: she just she was like, Okay, great, he's in the house,
- 40:21Speaker 1: cat's there. All is good.
- 40:23Speaker 2: But yeah, can you go get your sister and have
- 40:26Speaker 2: her wave so I know that she's just something.
- 40:28Speaker 1: That she got in. Okay, Yes, totally, I absolutely agree.
- 40:33Speaker 2: And then we cut back to the town hall meeting,
- 40:35Speaker 2: which is real reminiscent of a Gilmore Girls meeting to
- 40:38Speaker 2: me and.
- 40:38Speaker 1: Oh, for sure, yeah, the Charlie's Chicken guy or whatever whatever. Yeah,
- 40:46Speaker 1: real reminiscence of Grandma girls. For sure.
- 40:49Speaker 2: They're at the point and they are meeting, of course,
- 40:53Speaker 2: to vote about bringing back the carnival. The aforementioned Wally
- 40:57Speaker 2: of Wally's chip Wagon makes a plea for why he
- 41:00Speaker 2: wants to bring back the carnival, and then we cut
- 41:03Speaker 2: back to Cat running through the farmhouse in present day
- 41:07Speaker 2: looking for Jacob. And this is so confusing to me, Like,
- 41:11Speaker 2: now in the future, you think he's just going to
- 41:13Speaker 2: be sitting in the house.
- 41:15Speaker 1: That's what my notes say. I go, what was she
- 41:17Speaker 1: expecting to find adult Jacob?
- 41:21Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 41:22Speaker 1: What?
- 41:24Speaker 2: And over this footage of Cat running through the house.
- 41:27Speaker 2: She then runs to the almanac. Delle gets up to speak,
- 41:31Speaker 2: and she gives a lovely speech thinking the community and
- 41:35Speaker 2: makes her own plea for healing, and she supports bringing
- 41:40Speaker 2: the carnival back as the best way to move forward.
- 41:42Speaker 1: I think it's safe to say here, like for those
- 41:45Speaker 1: who have not seen the episode yet, like we have
- 41:48Speaker 1: two scenes that are happening simultaneously, and like there's you know,
- 41:55Speaker 1: talk over like one scene. It's it's very fast and
- 41:59Speaker 1: very hard to like articulate, like what's happening? I think
- 42:02Speaker 1: here to the listener.
- 42:04Speaker 2: As is made clear by the fact that I am
- 42:07Speaker 2: stumbling over my word.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Oh no, no, no, But Dell is talking.
- 42:10Speaker 2: About moving forward as Kat is realizing that nothing has changed,
- 42:14Speaker 2: like it is probably time for her to accept that
- 42:19Speaker 2: Jacob is gone.
- 42:20Speaker 1: Yes, and she says to the townspeople, we can't change
- 42:24Speaker 1: the past. We need to focus on the future. But
- 42:28Speaker 1: you're right. Here's where Kat pulls out that almanac and
- 42:33Speaker 1: sees that Jacob's death is still written in it.
- 42:35Speaker 2: Hey, I have a question. Yeah, you know, Dell has
- 42:39Speaker 2: been I wouldn't say okay with the loss of Jacob.
- 42:44Speaker 2: She's clearly affected by it, but she has seemed to
- 42:47Speaker 2: have accepted it far more than Kat ever. Did you know,
- 42:51Speaker 2: we don't know. There's a lot of talk about the
- 42:54Speaker 2: White Witch. We don't know what that's going to end
- 42:56Speaker 2: up being. We don't know if Dell's a time traveler.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Do you think Dell knows more than she's allowed us
- 43:03Speaker 2: to know.
- 43:04Speaker 1: I think so. I definitely think so. Okay, but then
- 43:08Speaker 1: sometimes it's there's scenes that are contradictory to that, So
- 43:13Speaker 1: you know, I don't know. We're just gonna have to
- 43:15Speaker 1: wait and see how that totally unfolds. And the next thing,
- 43:22Speaker 1: we're back in nineteen ninety nine and Colton is looking
- 43:25Speaker 1: for Jacob and the guy that was mentioned in the headline.
- 43:30Speaker 1: In the very beginning, the fisherman finds Jacob stuffed a
- 43:35Speaker 1: dog down at the shore and Colton tells him to
- 43:39Speaker 1: jump in, jump in the boat. We're gonna go. We're
- 43:41Speaker 1: gonna go look for him.
- 43:42Speaker 2: I mean, I understand it. But if he fell off
- 43:45Speaker 2: the cliff is looking for him from a boat at night,
- 43:49Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 43:51Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 43:52Speaker 2: I but your child's missing. You do whatever, you look
- 43:55Speaker 2: anywhere as implausible as it seems.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Right, So this is like, okay, if a person were
- 44:04Speaker 1: to fall off a cliff, would their body be like
- 44:07Speaker 1: at the bottom of the cliff, or was the tide
- 44:11Speaker 1: high where they would have fallen into the ocean, or
- 44:13Speaker 1: had the tide come in, and now the body is
- 44:16Speaker 1: watched out, So it's possible that they could be looking
- 44:19Speaker 1: in the water for.
- 44:20Speaker 2: Him and they're hoping that he's swimming in the water.
- 44:25Speaker 1: Hoping. Yes, you know, but why wasn't there any sort of.
- 44:31Speaker 2: Like surgeon to leave situation?
- 44:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't, I don't.
- 44:38Speaker 2: There's no authority figure involved in this search at this point.
- 44:42Speaker 1: You're right, where are the policemen? Yeah, there's got to
- 44:46Speaker 1: be a town sheriff somebody somebody. Next thing, we're back
- 44:51Speaker 1: in present day and Dell and Kat are talking and
- 44:55Speaker 1: Dell thinks Cat is upset about bringing the carnival back
- 44:58Speaker 1: and is like, you know, consulted her, and Kat apologizes
- 45:02Speaker 1: for not being able to save Jacob. So there's a
- 45:04Speaker 1: lot of things that are unset in this scene. Kat
- 45:07Speaker 1: obviously feels bad that she couldn't have saved Jacob by
- 45:10Speaker 1: going back to the past, but Dell is not aware
- 45:14Speaker 1: of that, of that situation and how it unfolded. She
- 45:17Speaker 1: just thinks she's upset about the carnival, and they have
- 45:20Speaker 1: this nice mother daughter moment which we've been waiting for.
- 45:24Speaker 1: We have not seen since episode one a little bit
- 45:28Speaker 1: in episode two after the.
- 45:30Speaker 2: Memorial, I believe, yes, okay, fine, yes, but yes, I
- 45:33Speaker 2: have been waiting a little bit more for this maternal
- 45:37Speaker 2: Dell to Cat moment. We cut back to nineteen ninety
- 45:40Speaker 2: nine with the scene with the boat that we've seen before.
- 45:42Speaker 2: Colton arriving back at the dock, scraping the boat against
- 45:45Speaker 2: the dock, and we hear him saying I can't find him.
- 45:49Speaker 2: He's gone.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Just like that, He's gone. Our search is over, like
- 45:53Speaker 1: what what? And our final scene, we were back in
- 45:58Speaker 1: present day and Kat is telling Elle that she walked
- 46:02Speaker 1: Jacob home. He went into the house. She asks Elliott
- 46:06Speaker 1: why it didn't work. Elliott doesn't seem to have the answers,
- 46:10Speaker 1: which is funny because he seems to have the answers
- 46:11Speaker 1: to everything else. This one no answer, he consoles her.
- 46:15Speaker 1: This is nice. Alice walks up from nineteen ninety nine.
- 46:20Speaker 1: She's emerged from the pond and wet, and Cat tells Alice,
- 46:26Speaker 1: we lost him, and so here's when Alice confirms that
- 46:30Speaker 1: it was adult Cat that she saw in the funhouse
- 46:32Speaker 1: mirrors and asks her how long Cat's been lying to
- 46:37Speaker 1: Alice about this, and.
- 46:39Speaker 2: Cat runs off, I didn't have episode. That was the
- 46:43Speaker 2: reaction Cat was hoping for. I think she was hoping
- 46:46Speaker 2: they could really have a moment.
- 46:48Speaker 1: Yeah, like we tried. We both tried together to save him,
- 46:51Speaker 1: and as didn't work.
- 46:53Speaker 2: And yeah, exactly, and I really, you know, knowing what
- 46:59Speaker 2: Alice was going through. Question at this point, Kat's decision
- 47:04Speaker 2: not to talk to Alice, not to partner with her
- 47:07Speaker 2: leading up to this moment, I don't know how you
- 47:10Speaker 2: do that. This is an uncomfortable conversation. Hi, I know
- 47:13Speaker 2: you can time travel and I can too. But we're here,
- 47:18Speaker 2: so let's shine out, Scooby. Let's work together here, buddy.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 47:25Speaker 2: And one thing I found so interesting is Kat is
- 47:29Speaker 2: hiding the whole time in nineteen ninety nine and the
- 47:31Speaker 2: only person who could possibly recognize her is Alice. I
- 47:35Speaker 2: just wonder it's not unusual for an adult woman to
- 47:38Speaker 2: be walking through the carnival. I don't know who else
- 47:40Speaker 2: she's hiding from.
- 47:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think like Brady and Cat, Young Brady
- 47:44Speaker 1: and Cat are gonna be like hy that looks like
- 47:47Speaker 1: an adult you. You know they're right, They're not going
- 47:50Speaker 1: to No, it's not going to happen. Did you see
- 47:52Speaker 1: the previews for next week? I did. Okay, I have
- 47:55Speaker 1: a question for you, Okay, is this episode mark the
- 48:01Speaker 1: end of Jacob's disappearance.
- 48:03Speaker 2: I don't know the answer to that, because they.
- 48:06Speaker 1: Like showed like the family kind of like moving on.
- 48:10Speaker 1: I thought, like we saw, I mean, the preview is
- 48:13Speaker 1: all of fifteen seconds we see like young Cat at
- 48:17Speaker 1: a dance. I'm just wondering, like.
- 48:19Speaker 2: What that would be interesting to see? I find it
- 48:21Speaker 2: hard to believe that they've just decided, like he went
- 48:24Speaker 2: off the cliff and he's gone, that they're.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Just not there's not some full like missing person's TV
- 48:31Speaker 1: showstigation something. Yeah, Like I mean I think when children
- 48:39Speaker 1: go missing, especially like this, there would have been a
- 48:43Speaker 1: nationwide search for him.
- 48:45Speaker 2: No, he's a town wide search. Could the sheriff show up? Please?
- 48:48Speaker 1: Something? Something?
- 48:50Speaker 2: We know that there were posters, so there must be
- 48:54Speaker 2: more to the story.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Was amber Alert around in nineteen nine?
- 49:00Speaker 2: I don't, I'm gonna look.
- 49:03Speaker 1: I'm gonna look right now. Amber Alert started in nineteen
- 49:07Speaker 1: ninety six.
- 49:08Speaker 2: Oh get that kid on an Amber alert freeway sign?
- 49:13Speaker 1: Yeah? Something.
- 49:14Speaker 2: Anyway, what this episode was very light on was noticed
- 49:17Speaker 2: in the nineties.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Moments total nothing, zero things.
- 49:21Speaker 2: Agree, kind of bummed about it. That's well.
- 49:24Speaker 1: Last week I thought like they hit us over the
- 49:26Speaker 1: head with it, So this week having like none was
- 49:30Speaker 1: kind of a bummer.
- 49:32Speaker 2: Yeah, are you ready for our homie of the week?
- 49:35Speaker 1: Go for it.
- 49:36Speaker 2: We agree this was a pretty strong episode from the
- 49:38Speaker 2: entire ensemble. But if we're going to have to name
- 49:41Speaker 2: just one person, I think we're gonna go with Dell
- 49:44Speaker 2: for the week. She has a really strong arc in
- 49:46Speaker 2: this episode. She's just kind of a pillar underneath so
- 49:50Speaker 2: many people under the community, a pillar of support for Danny.
- 49:54Speaker 2: She shows up for Cat in the end. She makes
- 49:56Speaker 2: a lot of good and right moves in this episode,
- 50:01Speaker 2: and so while I still find myself wanting more from her,
- 50:06Speaker 2: she's also a woman who lost her son very young
- 50:09Speaker 2: and lost her husband very young. So she's a woman
- 50:12Speaker 2: who's dealt with a lot and is dealing with it
- 50:14Speaker 2: in her own way.
- 50:15Speaker 1: Yeah, good choice. Hey.
- 50:17Speaker 2: Thanks. We hope to be back to our full and
- 50:20Speaker 2: regular schedule next week, barring any additional tragedies. Yes, look
- 50:26Speaker 2: forward to and movie review plus a recap from us
