- 1:37Speaker 1: by the time you guys are hearing this. But on
- 1:40Speaker 1: the Bobby Bone Show, I went to Amy. We did
- 1:42Speaker 1: the psychic bit. We said pick a letter. She picked
- 1:46Speaker 1: R so I do a bunch of money on Rory
- 1:49Speaker 1: and she saw the letter R. I mean she didn't
- 1:51Speaker 1: know anything about Rory or we are I'll blow it.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Mike's sitting there whistle in his mouth, running audio.
- 1:59Speaker 3: I've been there, my It just looked on.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Yeah we're here. So again, this is not the best
- 2:05Speaker 1: part of a podcast whenever you have to say something
- 2:07Speaker 1: a live because it's never a lot that. But looking
- 2:10Speaker 1: I don't think even no, they start the first two days,
- 2:13Speaker 1: it doesn't matter where they are.
- 2:15Speaker 5: Yeah, they're set like if you start early the first day,
- 2:18Speaker 5: you start later the second day.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Right, So it doesn't move until they cut correct. What's
- 2:25Speaker 1: Roy's at minus? I didn't as of right now, he
- 2:27Speaker 1: didn't start to twelve one.
- 2:28Speaker 5: He hadn't started, and he's tied for first him and
- 2:30Speaker 5: Sam Burns. Your guy, the guy you played with, Yeah,
- 2:32Speaker 5: my guy stand right. Didn't you play with Sam Burns?
- 2:34Speaker 7: I did?
- 2:35Speaker 3: Yeah, But I was like, my guy, what event?
- 2:37Speaker 1: What event was that I played in the celebrity pro
- 2:39Speaker 1: am of the Saint.
- 2:40Speaker 5: Jude Classic Cool cool cool?
- 2:43Speaker 1: And I was like, weren't you there?
- 2:44Speaker 8: No?
- 2:45Speaker 1: My other Mexican counterpart was there? Your brother jes Now
- 2:50Speaker 1: either have three.
- 2:52Speaker 5: Me, your brother in law and Steve. Don't miss the
- 2:55Speaker 5: closest your other Mexican counterparts? What Mexican's with me more
- 2:59Speaker 5: than anybody else?
- 3:00Speaker 9: Yeah, probably the most Mexican.
- 3:04Speaker 5: I don't know about DJ But because we don't do that,
- 3:06Speaker 5: we don't say who's more Mexican.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I'm just saying at least Mexican's mom's white. I don't
- 3:10Speaker 1: even know. We call him a hundred if he even
- 3:14Speaker 1: considers himself Mexican.
- 3:16Speaker 6: Honestly heard that. Let me what DJV Mexican really like?
- 3:20Speaker 1: If you yeah, I'm facetiming him right now. Safy answers
- 3:35Speaker 1: must be they have a series a Mississippi state. They're there, Yeah,
- 3:40Speaker 1: they're there. So I'll say this this about DJ. He
- 3:43Speaker 1: I'm very close to DJ. He is the only person
- 3:46Speaker 1: in my life that just calls me to talk. There's
- 3:49Speaker 1: no reason he calls me and I'm like, oh, DJs
- 3:52Speaker 1: calling on. Let me see what's on his mind? Hey, man,
- 3:53Speaker 1: what's up? Nothing so for you, not.
- 3:56Speaker 6: Like hey, I need advice, I need the anything.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Really a talk calls check up.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Hey, that's family, man, that's family right there.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I've nobody does that to me for two reasons. One
- 4:07Speaker 1: because I don't think that's done a lot anyway. Now
- 4:09Speaker 1: people don't just show up at doors and knock and
- 4:11Speaker 1: come in. I think that culture has changed. But also
- 4:13Speaker 1: most people know how I am. I don't want to
- 4:15Speaker 1: talk on the phone to anybody. I don't mind DJ
- 4:17Speaker 1: Collin interesting, Like he facetimes though all the time, and
- 4:20Speaker 1: so he'll FaceTime and to be like what's up, Broby,
- 4:24Speaker 1: And I'm like nothing, what's up with you? Like nothing?
- 4:28Speaker 1: And then we just figured out what to talk about.
- 4:32Speaker 3: But what's the average conversation time?
- 4:36Speaker 1: Twelve to fifteen minutes?
- 4:37Speaker 3: That's wow, that's solid. That's a long time for you.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I really enjoy him as a person. There are only
- 4:41Speaker 1: a few people on Earth I enjoy as a person
- 4:44Speaker 1: fully that I make time to person with. He's one
- 4:47Speaker 1: of those people. He's just so I wish you would answer.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I wouldn't say this to his face. He's awesome, Like
- 4:55Speaker 1: why would listen? You gotta let him know how much
- 4:58Speaker 1: you appreciate I do. I know he knows I love him,
- 5:01Speaker 1: but it's just like it just wouldn't come up to
- 5:03Speaker 1: where it's like, hey man, I just think you're the best.
- 5:06Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 5:06Speaker 9: Do you have that relationship with him where it's like
- 5:09Speaker 9: you talk crap to each other and that's how you know,
- 5:11Speaker 9: like like brothers, how I love you? You know cause
- 5:13Speaker 9: I have one friend like that too, where we talked
- 5:14Speaker 9: probably once a week on the phone and it's like,
- 5:17Speaker 9: you know, you just say something stupid or meandom and
- 5:19Speaker 9: that's basically your way of saying like what's up, dude?
- 5:20Speaker 1: You know him not really so much that way, we
- 5:24Speaker 1: can for sure.
- 5:26Speaker 4: Uh.
- 5:26Speaker 1: He's also like a really good athlete where we get
- 5:28Speaker 1: pissed off and we play golf because he's he played
- 5:30Speaker 1: college baseball, so he's a really good athlete where a
- 5:34Speaker 1: couple of places, and then I just get annoyed. And
- 5:38Speaker 1: then we get way competitive, and then I'm like, I
- 5:39Speaker 1: know you're cheating. I know you're driving off to drop
- 5:41Speaker 1: your ball.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I've been there for that.
- 5:42Speaker 1: And then and who knows if he is he always
- 5:44Speaker 1: drives off. But anyway, got triggered.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I thought you guys were over that.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Yeah, anyway, here, if he uh calls, I will answer it.
- 5:58Speaker 1: But I don't know how we got started on that.
- 6:00Speaker 1: My west of favorite Mexicans, I know, I don't know
- 6:03Speaker 1: how do we get this sort of my list of
- 6:04Speaker 1: my favorite Mexicans.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Caddy, I thought it was Eddy, but that's it.
- 6:11Speaker 1: My other closeman, nice friend, but I think too, Like
- 6:15Speaker 1: when I live in Texas, I was a minority in
- 6:18Speaker 1: my friend group, I was the white guy. It was
- 6:20Speaker 1: like all Mexicans and one black dude in me. And
- 6:23Speaker 1: so I tried to get I tried to get a scholarship. Yeah,
- 6:25Speaker 1: I tried to get a minority scholarship. It didn't work
- 6:27Speaker 1: like that.
- 6:27Speaker 3: And that's why that's what it was weird.
- 6:28Speaker 5: When like he would like, hey man, do you want
- 6:30Speaker 5: to come over and watch football like me? And my friends,
- 6:32Speaker 5: and then like he would say, yeah, you feel like cooking,
- 6:36Speaker 5: and then he would tell me one thing, and then
- 6:39Speaker 5: he would tell another one of our friends, like, you
- 6:40Speaker 5: feel like cooking tacos, and then you tell another friend, Hey,
- 6:42Speaker 5: you feel like doing burgers. And by the time we
- 6:45Speaker 5: got to his house on Sunday to watch football, we
- 6:48Speaker 5: had all this food and he's the only one that
- 6:50Speaker 5: didn't do anything.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Except buy it.
- 6:52Speaker 4: That's a lot harder.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of time I would buy it, but
- 6:56Speaker 1: I would not just say do you feel like it.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I'd be like, hey, they're going to cook this. And
- 6:58Speaker 1: it's so competitive, even Steve, who we don't run with
- 7:03Speaker 1: as much, but Steve's was definitely a best friend who's Mexican,
- 7:07Speaker 1: and they would argue about who the best.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Chef was, like on the grip constantly.
- 7:12Speaker 1: That's awesome. Is that a Mexican culture thing? Oh yeah,
- 7:15Speaker 1: I mean because I don't have any white it could
- 7:17Speaker 1: just be I don't have any white friends, because they
- 7:18Speaker 1: could do that too.
- 7:19Speaker 3: And I don't. We called it like just barbecuing, but
- 7:21Speaker 3: it's not like just barbecuing. It's a whole it's a.
- 7:23Speaker 5: Whole thing, you know, like putting meat on a grill
- 7:26Speaker 5: outside with the charcoal and all that drinking beers.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Like it's a culture.
- 7:30Speaker 9: Yeah, because you guys grew up doing that, right, I mean,
- 7:32Speaker 9: because we grew up barbecuing and you know.
- 7:34Speaker 4: Our culture. But it was like burgers and dogs.
- 7:36Speaker 1: No, I tell you, Mexican's rock. Yeah, they do, thank you, man,
- 7:41Speaker 1: no doubt about it. Maybe the best they do, I'm
- 7:46Speaker 1: telling you. But I started looking at like, at least
- 7:49Speaker 1: in my life, I think Mexicans win, and they're loyal.
- 7:51Speaker 9: Like I grew up in southern California Mexican friends and
- 7:54Speaker 9: they're very loyal.
- 7:56Speaker 6: And if you're loyal to them, man, they'll be loyal
- 7:58Speaker 6: to you forever.
- 8:00Speaker 5: This so weird here and you guys talking about I'm
- 8:02Speaker 5: telling you, whites are so far down the list.
- 8:05Speaker 1: They are.
- 8:05Speaker 3: We're right here to them.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Whites are so far down the list. Just kind of suck.
- 8:12Speaker 3: We like you guys.
- 8:14Speaker 1: You guys never have meetings and talk about us, you know,
- 8:16Speaker 1: like you rank the white guys like, you know, first
- 8:18Speaker 1: and the white guy draft.
- 8:19Speaker 3: We're gonna take Kevin.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Oh Man, you don't even know friendship. You gotta good Mexican, right,
- 8:25Speaker 1: and you know that's right, I was speaking of food.
- 8:28Speaker 1: We should go ahead, we should talk about the cow
- 8:32Speaker 1: thing real quick because this has been on a couple
- 8:35Speaker 1: of shows. But Eddie has been trying to get us
- 8:37Speaker 1: to buy a cow. I opted out, you opted out
- 8:40Speaker 1: or opped it in?
- 8:40Speaker 3: Well, I'm in.
- 8:41Speaker 1: You're buying part of the cow.
- 8:42Speaker 6: I've already bought part of the How.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Much money did you spend? Three and so you already
- 8:46Speaker 1: paid for it, and so you're gonna get a third
- 8:49Speaker 1: of a quarter of the cow.
- 8:50Speaker 7: Correct?
- 8:51Speaker 1: Okay, what happened? Did he did you show him the
- 8:55Speaker 1: picture of the guy?
- 8:56Speaker 5: Yeah, so we all you know is me, Kevin and
- 8:58Speaker 5: a buddy of Kevin's, and we all went in.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I told you, nobody want to see the picture of
- 9:02Speaker 1: the cal They.
- 9:02Speaker 5: Venmoed me the money and I paid the farmer. So then,
- 9:05Speaker 5: like you know what, four or five days went by
- 9:07Speaker 5: and the farmer said, hey, got your cow, send me.
- 9:10Speaker 3: A picture of it.
- 9:12Speaker 5: And honestly, I thought that was pretty cool, Like, hey,
- 9:14Speaker 5: you spent nine hundred dollars on a cow, you might
- 9:17Speaker 5: as well see what you bought, right, what'd you like
- 9:20Speaker 5: to see if you bought a tractor?
- 9:23Speaker 3: Wouldn't you want to see it?
- 9:24Speaker 1: Tractors, not living.
- 9:24Speaker 6: It's totally different.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Okay, Okay, let's think.
- 9:26Speaker 1: I saw I saw a picture of the cow, A
- 9:28Speaker 1: pretty cute cow.
- 9:29Speaker 4: He showed you.
- 9:30Speaker 6: I know, I was like, dude, this couch.
- 9:32Speaker 5: Just want to see the business se But are you
- 9:35Speaker 5: gonna now every time you just see a cow, you're
- 9:37Speaker 5: going to be like, I don't want to see that.
- 9:38Speaker 3: I don't want to see that.
- 9:39Speaker 5: No, chances are you're gonna eat the cow that you
- 9:41Speaker 5: see anyway.
- 9:42Speaker 6: I know, but there's a difference than just knowing that.
- 9:45Speaker 1: They say, like just eating, I say, going out to
- 9:47Speaker 1: the calforin and say it.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Open the gate. No, that's our money.
- 9:50Speaker 6: What are you doing, hey, I could be saving a life, dude.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Something else food related on Monday is what was it
- 9:58Speaker 1: a brisket off?
- 9:59Speaker 3: Oh?
- 10:00Speaker 1: Is it brisket or smoking brisket? Did I give you
- 10:03Speaker 1: guys enough money?
- 10:04Speaker 7: Well?
- 10:04Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, so I gave each of you seventy five
- 10:06Speaker 1: dollars to go and prepare a brisket. You bought the meat.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Do you have to buy like sauces and stuff like?
- 10:14Speaker 5: I mean, we don't want to give too much as
- 10:17Speaker 5: far as what goes into a preparation of a brisket.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I was thinking about this. I think there should be
- 10:23Speaker 1: two different rounds. Round one should be straight meat like no,
- 10:27Speaker 1: no sauce. Round two should be with a sauce.
- 10:31Speaker 11: Okay, like you add the sauce or you you sauce
- 10:34Speaker 11: sauce eating goes best with no?
- 10:36Speaker 1: Well, it doesn't matter, but they should. There should be
- 10:39Speaker 1: an element of how I would normally eat it, because
- 10:41Speaker 1: I wouldn't just grab it and eat it straight. So
- 10:43Speaker 1: I want to do round one straight meat. Round two
- 10:46Speaker 1: meat with whatever sauce you deem to be the best
- 10:48Speaker 1: sauce to go with the kind of meat you cooked.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I like that, okay, because I think I gave you
- 10:51Speaker 1: enough money to buy some sauce right.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Well now now, I mean, now you're adding sauce. We're
- 10:56Speaker 3: kind of going over there.
- 10:56Speaker 6: Depends a ton of sauce.
- 10:57Speaker 3: You can get.
- 10:59Speaker 1: You're keeping eighty percent that me.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Do you want sugar?
- 11:01Speaker 1: Fret?
- 11:01Speaker 7: So?
- 11:01Speaker 6: I bought you food for your family at least three days?
- 11:05Speaker 3: Good point? That is a good point. Are you gonna
- 11:08Speaker 3: homemade the sauce?
- 11:09Speaker 6: I don't know yet, Okay, I haven't thought about it.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I wouldn't share any details.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know fair question.
- 11:15Speaker 6: Might just go to a Mexican shop down the street
- 11:16Speaker 6: and get a sauce.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Who knows, good luck with that?
- 11:19Speaker 5: You could have you bought your brisket. Not yet my mind.
- 11:23Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I handpicked it. It's perfect for people. Don't realize.
- 11:29Speaker 5: Half of the quality of your brisket, how it comes out,
- 11:31Speaker 5: is what it looks like before you cook it. People
- 11:33Speaker 5: don't realize that they do, so you better hand pick
- 11:36Speaker 5: it correctly.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Have you seen the TikTok video or the guys with
- 11:39Speaker 1: his wife and she is picking out fruit. I'm going
- 11:41Speaker 1: to say, for the sake of this, it's peaches. It
- 11:43Speaker 1: could be any fruit. And he's standing beside her and
- 11:46Speaker 1: she hands him a peach, he puts in the bag,
- 11:48Speaker 1: She fills another one puts in the bag. He hands
- 11:50Speaker 1: her one. She's like, that's not good. So then he
- 11:51Speaker 1: starts to grab them from inside the bag because she's
- 11:53Speaker 1: already picked and handshom turrse. She goes, that's not good.
- 11:56Speaker 4: I love it.
- 11:58Speaker 1: So anything he hands her, she's like, this is not
- 12:00Speaker 1: even if it's the one who's already.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Picking put in the best terrible man.
- 12:02Speaker 9: Now, it's pretty funny, that's awesome, that's that sounds about.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, it does.
- 12:07Speaker 5: You know what I love about those videos is that,
- 12:09Speaker 5: like it makes you feel not alone. Like you watch
- 12:12Speaker 5: a video like that and you're like, wow, I'm not
- 12:13Speaker 5: the only one that that happens to. That's so that
- 12:16Speaker 5: makes me feel better about myself. I want to go
- 12:18Speaker 5: to fellow whitey Dylan, who's over there? Like you turn
- 12:20Speaker 5: your mic on. A lot of people are like, who
- 12:24Speaker 5: the heck is Dylan? Dylan's face has never gone on yet.
- 12:26Speaker 1: We're not he is a lucidor basically yeah, speaking of Mexicans,
- 12:29Speaker 1: he wears a mask.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Nobody sees Dylan right now? Dylan as a fellow whitey.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Do you like brisket? Love brisket? Would you like to
- 12:39Speaker 1: be a part of eating the brisket on Monday whenever
- 12:43Speaker 1: they are telling like feeding us the brisket to see
- 12:45Speaker 1: who's a winner. I don't know what kind of personal
- 12:47Speaker 1: be if I said no, yeah.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Okay, and you're from Tennessee, Nor Georgia, North Georgia, Oh Georgia.
- 12:52Speaker 11: Okay, all right, so so he knows probably good brisket,
- 12:55Speaker 11: good barbecue, good brisket.
- 12:58Speaker 4: That's true.
- 12:59Speaker 9: But in California, like we don't have You didn't get
- 13:02Speaker 9: raised like eating brisket. It was tacos or burritos, you know, like,
- 13:05Speaker 9: and then you come here like, well the barbecue here
- 13:07Speaker 9: is much better.
- 13:08Speaker 3: That's interesting. What did what were you raised eating?
- 13:10Speaker 10: Like?
- 13:11Speaker 3: Okay, here you go. I set you up, I said.
- 13:13Speaker 7: You up?
- 13:14Speaker 1: What do you mean? What was I raised?
- 13:16Speaker 7: Well?
- 13:16Speaker 5: He said, like, you know in California where he was
- 13:19Speaker 5: born and raised, like, it was tacos and britos. Okay,
- 13:22Speaker 5: So in Arkansas an little mountain pine?
- 13:25Speaker 4: Oh were you pine?
- 13:27Speaker 1: If you were to say what did you eat? Mostly?
- 13:29Speaker 1: Or are you asking like if we had barbecue, what
- 13:31Speaker 1: kind of barbecue was it?
- 13:32Speaker 3: Uh?
- 13:33Speaker 5: I think I'm asking more like, what was the food
- 13:36Speaker 5: of your area? What did you guys specialize in making
- 13:39Speaker 5: in that area?
- 13:39Speaker 1: At first it was any food at all. I knew
- 13:41Speaker 1: it's not though, But if you said what kind of
- 13:44Speaker 1: food did you eat? Most two things come to mind.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Hamburger helper a manwich, because that's not what I'm not
- 13:51Speaker 1: making a joke, I know, I know.
- 13:53Speaker 3: I thought he was poor.
- 13:54Speaker 1: I get it, But it was if you could find
- 13:57Speaker 1: ground beef the cheapest, and hamburger helper or even and
- 14:00Speaker 1: the knockoff Hamburger helpers were so cheap that you could
- 14:03Speaker 1: make basically a meal from that and man which was
- 14:06Speaker 1: so cheap.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Are you familiar the man with the can. Yeah? Yeah,
- 14:08Speaker 3: it was ground beef and then you put the can
- 14:10Speaker 3: in it.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Yeah, there's no beef.
- 14:11Speaker 3: It's like sloppy joke.
- 14:12Speaker 1: It's just yeah, so good with white bread. Like that
- 14:15Speaker 1: was what I think of when I think of like
- 14:17Speaker 1: dinner as far as like barbecue.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Like did Arkansas Keith on a like a Friday.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Night, No, no, No, A lot of fish because we
- 14:27Speaker 1: would catch the fish. But barbecue, I guess there was
- 14:31Speaker 1: a Memphis influence, but it would be we would just
- 14:34Speaker 1: go to like Smokey Joe's or some barbecue place like
- 14:38Speaker 1: like pork Ribs. But I'm telling you, the only time
- 14:42Speaker 1: I think we really ate barbecue as a kid was
- 14:44Speaker 1: if you know, the first Sunday of the month the
- 14:47Speaker 1: weather was good, after church, they people would bring food.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Do you have dinner on the grounds what they would
- 14:51Speaker 1: call it, and people would bring barbecue. I ated it there,
- 14:53Speaker 1: I wouldn't. It was from them, So I don't have
- 14:55Speaker 1: a good I don't know. Yeah, I don't know what
- 14:56Speaker 1: it was. But when I got to Texas. All my
- 14:59Speaker 1: young adult I give University of Texas so much crap
- 15:02Speaker 1: because I hate them. But I love Austin and I
- 15:06Speaker 1: love Texas, and I think I am able to separate
- 15:08Speaker 1: the two. I think people know that like Austin a
- 15:11Speaker 1: plus city the greatest, Like I like it better than Nashville.
- 15:15Speaker 1: And I say that as living in Nashville. The barbecue
- 15:19Speaker 1: culture there is pretty solid A plus. Yeah, it's it's
- 15:22Speaker 1: it's solid. Different kind of barbecue than Memphis barbecue. Yeah,
- 15:26Speaker 1: in Kansas City barbecue event. And that's why I'm surprised
- 15:28Speaker 1: by Dylan and Georgia. Like Georgia barbecue. They just try
- 15:31Speaker 1: peaches like that was barbecue. Like Dad put him on
- 15:35Speaker 1: the grill and put sauce on it. Here's barbecue.
- 15:37Speaker 11: So he's he's confused. It's me thought we were doing peaches.
- 15:42Speaker 11: You're right, it's a different barbecue.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I think at my love for like barbecue
- 15:46Speaker 1: came from being in Texas. I'd like to say again,
- 15:48Speaker 1: just for the record, I hate the University of Texas. Yes, yes,
- 15:51Speaker 1: I love Texas and Austin, but that University of Texas.
- 15:55Speaker 1: That hate comes from me being in Arkansas kid and
- 15:57Speaker 1: then just pounding us and being richer than us and
- 16:00Speaker 1: being in the same conference as us for a long time.
- 16:02Speaker 1: But I'm excited about Monday. The question is, Mike, and
- 16:06Speaker 1: this is going to be you, since you're the boss.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Do we do it here? Do we do we come
- 16:10Speaker 1: over here? Or do we just do it in our
- 16:12Speaker 1: studio because we can drive over here easily, there's more room.
- 16:16Speaker 1: We could do it with cameras outside. It doesn't matter.
- 16:19Speaker 9: Do they need any prep time before I would be ready?
- 16:23Speaker 1: So they just want to do the building up there?
- 16:24Speaker 7: Okay?
- 16:25Speaker 1: Then all right, so mondays of this show, we will
- 16:28Speaker 1: do the have you Dylan, you've been up to the
- 16:29Speaker 1: other building, right? What do you want to come up?
- 16:32Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 16:32Speaker 1: Okay?
- 16:33Speaker 6: So is he part of like the final call too?
- 16:35Speaker 6: Or did just he's just so.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Here's what it's going to be. It's a great question.
- 16:38Speaker 1: He's not part of the final call, but he is
- 16:39Speaker 1: a consultant. If I'm like a little torn on something,
- 16:42Speaker 1: I may have a little conversation with my fellow Whitey
- 16:43Speaker 1: and be like, hey, what do you think? And you know,
- 16:47Speaker 1: also if he just wants to eat brisket, it should
- 16:49Speaker 1: come up. But we cannot show us face. The new
- 16:52Speaker 1: thing about Dylan is no one can know what he
- 16:54Speaker 1: looks like. And if he does get all, we have
- 16:57Speaker 1: to get him a mask.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Okay, I literally do him.
- 17:00Speaker 6: That's a Spider Man mask.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Can I so something that I've been I'm not going
- 17:04Speaker 1: to do it because I just don't have the energy
- 17:06Speaker 1: your time now that I have a baby. Something that
- 17:08Speaker 1: I was toying with in my head was being a
- 17:11Speaker 1: masked stand up comedian in town, never saying who I was,
- 17:16Speaker 1: go to open mic stuff and all, and then do
- 17:20Speaker 1: actually open mic because I can't be like, I don't
- 17:24Speaker 1: do it. I'm gonna do my own show. No one's
- 17:25Speaker 1: gonna know who I am and be a masked comedian
- 17:29Speaker 1: the whole time and see if if I'm even any
- 17:33Speaker 1: good and like and like do Zaines and like try
- 17:36Speaker 1: to but never never reveal it's me because I can
- 17:38Speaker 1: sell tickets because people think I'm somewhat funny from doing
- 17:41Speaker 1: this and I got to be c plus to be
- 17:44Speaker 1: minus comedian through just doing years and years of being
- 17:46Speaker 1: on the road. But if I just do it in
- 17:48Speaker 1: a mask and it's not specifically about things that I'm
- 17:51Speaker 1: talking about me, like wouldn't that be fun and funny?
- 17:53Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 17:53Speaker 1: And also if I bomb and I suck, who cares
- 17:56Speaker 1: I'm in a mask? Yeah?
- 17:57Speaker 5: Do you think you being on the radio and podcast
- 18:00Speaker 5: and all that, people would recognize your voice?
- 18:03Speaker 1: I think there's a chance. However, I don't speak in
- 18:05Speaker 1: a cadence. And we talked about this on another show.
- 18:07Speaker 1: It's hard to do an impression to me because nothing
- 18:09Speaker 1: I do, speaking wise, is so dynamic that you can
- 18:14Speaker 1: easily replicate it or do an impression to go that's
- 18:17Speaker 1: for sure him. So yes, maybe, But I think if
- 18:21Speaker 1: I were in a mask, Mike, what do you think
- 18:22Speaker 1: about that idea?
- 18:23Speaker 4: I love it.
- 18:23Speaker 1: That'd be crazy, huh.
- 18:24Speaker 6: I do think people would figure it out after a while, though,
- 18:27Speaker 6: I'm hearing you.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Speak after a while. Yes, unless I unless I went
- 18:31Speaker 1: up and I couldn't do a fake Elizabeth Holmes it, Yeah,
- 18:37Speaker 1: if you.
- 18:37Speaker 6: Just go full blue and dot like stuff, you would.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Never do yeah, or like a voice changer.
- 18:42Speaker 1: So that's one thing that I've really spent some time,
- 18:45Speaker 1: funny thinking about doing. I don't think I have another
- 18:47Speaker 1: thing that I think I am going to do that
- 18:48Speaker 1: I don't want to stay here because I like that stuff.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Like I like risk, like I like it's not the
- 18:57Speaker 1: same as like a danger of a police officer. It's
- 19:01Speaker 1: not so I don't want people to get them the
- 19:02Speaker 1: balls about it. That's not real danger. But I like that.
- 19:05Speaker 3: I like danger.
- 19:06Speaker 1: I like going up and trying stuff that's way different.
- 19:08Speaker 5: You remember we talked about you and I doing like
- 19:12Speaker 5: go up to these like we'd play shows, but we're
- 19:14Speaker 5: got dead serious and try to sing like Whitney Houston,
- 19:16Speaker 5: I Will Always Love You well sort of.
- 19:20Speaker 1: So so my idea was we open for people where
- 19:23Speaker 1: they don't know who we are where, but the person
- 19:26Speaker 1: that the people do that would be on the joke.
- 19:29Speaker 1: We have to tell them. So let's say somebody come
- 19:31Speaker 1: to comes to town like Amossley, who I'm a massive
- 19:34Speaker 1: fan of, but he's also represented by my same agency,
- 19:37Speaker 1: and if he had a sense of humor, my eight,
- 19:40Speaker 1: not agency, my my management, my manager'd be like, Hey,
- 19:43Speaker 1: these two guys, they want to do seven minutes, and
- 19:46Speaker 1: they're going to go up and they're going to open
- 19:48Speaker 1: for the open areas and we and we we were
- 19:50Speaker 1: just going to go and sing as hard as the
- 19:52Speaker 1: hardest songs possible a cappella and not stop and no,
- 19:57Speaker 1: and people wouldn't know. We wouldn't even do it in town.
- 20:00Speaker 9: We we go like Atlanta, Okay, like some small town
- 20:05Speaker 9: maybe Atlanta.
- 20:06Speaker 1: We put on like some face. We don't go full
- 20:08Speaker 1: mask there. And we're in there and we're trying adele songs,
- 20:12Speaker 1: but we're not cracking for any reason. We do like
- 20:15Speaker 1: three full songs and all we're doing is recording us
- 20:17Speaker 1: in the audience, and then that's the performance.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Hilarious.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Dude, You think you'd be able to hold it?
- 20:24Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 20:25Speaker 7: Really?
- 20:25Speaker 3: Oh yeah, you just like this isn't a joke.
- 20:28Speaker 1: That uncomfortableness.
- 20:30Speaker 3: I love it.
- 20:31Speaker 6: I think you could for sure.
- 20:32Speaker 3: But Eddie, I mean take that good.
- 20:33Speaker 6: And that's not a dis because I don't know. If
- 20:35Speaker 6: if I heard.
- 20:36Speaker 4: You singing like that, dude, I'd be dying.
- 20:38Speaker 3: That's like the guys on Saturday Night Live that can't
- 20:40Speaker 3: hold it.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Yeah, want to?
- 20:42Speaker 1: Yes, that's the kind of stuff like I think about
- 20:45Speaker 1: when I'm going what's my next thing? It's always really
- 20:47Speaker 1: outrageous stuff that I end up not doing. But I
- 20:49Speaker 1: do have something now that I do. I don't have
- 20:51Speaker 1: the time right the second that I do feel like
- 20:53Speaker 1: I can do and I think people will come and
- 20:55Speaker 1: it'll be fine. But I've never seen done before. I
- 20:58Speaker 1: won't rebuild that here. I think my days is being
- 21:01Speaker 1: just a touring stand up are over. I did a
- 21:03Speaker 1: special got bought by Sam t It's fun. I still
- 21:06Speaker 1: have those elements and only did that so I could
- 21:07Speaker 1: train myself good enough that if I ever got to
- 21:09Speaker 1: call the host and award show, it'd be totally comfortable
- 21:12Speaker 1: for me because I'd been doing stand up forever. Uh So,
- 21:15Speaker 1: I think I'm okay there. I got a little something
- 21:18Speaker 1: else in the tail pipe. I hope to be there
- 21:20Speaker 1: for it.
- 21:21Speaker 3: The tail pipe, it's all just me.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Eating people's brisket is the start of it. Welcome Boston.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Everybody's prepared brisket. Let's is the best.
- 21:31Speaker 3: And Dylan's your partner.
- 21:33Speaker 1: This is this masked white guy here. Okay, so that's
- 21:40Speaker 1: gonna be Monday. Have we talked to sports at all?
- 21:41Speaker 3: NA have wes?

- 23:24Speaker 1: All right, we're now going to go over to Alan Chipnuk,
- 23:26Speaker 1: one of the most influential voices in golf journalism. He's
- 23:29Speaker 1: the author of the brand new biography Rory, The Heartache
- 23:32Speaker 1: and Triumph of Golf's most Human Superstar that came out
- 23:35Speaker 1: this week over thirty years covering the sport, and the
- 23:38Speaker 1: new book drops right as Rory returns to Augusta to
- 23:41Speaker 1: defend his master's title, and you can follow Alan on
- 23:43Speaker 1: social media at Alan Chipnuk, Alan big, thanks for coming on.
- 23:47Speaker 1: What I want to say first is I saw Rory
- 23:49Speaker 1: talking about the food and they were like, hey, why
- 23:52Speaker 1: didn't you know, do more Irish food and he said, well,
- 23:54Speaker 1: because I want to enjoy the food too. So is
- 23:58Speaker 1: Rory funny?
- 23:59Speaker 4: Reasonably funny?
- 24:00Speaker 8: Yes, that was a good line, and of course a
- 24:03Speaker 8: few people over in Ireland I've detected on Twitter, were offended.
- 24:08Speaker 8: But as we say in this in our business, you know,
- 24:11Speaker 8: the truth is my shield, and I think Rory's Ry's.
- 24:14Speaker 4: Banged on there.
- 24:15Speaker 8: So but It is interesting because he's he's this blue
- 24:19Speaker 8: collar kid from this you know, scrappy little suburb of Belfast,
- 24:23Speaker 8: and it shows how far he's traveled in life.
- 24:26Speaker 4: The Fancy Wines the foy.
- 24:27Speaker 8: Gras likes a little bit of an iroll like come
- 24:30Speaker 8: on Rory, like like, don't forget, don't forget your roots.
- 24:32Speaker 8: But at the same time, if you've been to Ireland,
- 24:35Speaker 8: you know what he's talking about.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Is Rory well liked, oh very much.
- 24:39Speaker 4: So everywhere he goes, he's a crowd favorite.
- 24:44Speaker 8: He just had There's something about him that that draws
- 24:46Speaker 8: people in. He obviously plays a game with a certain flare,
- 24:51Speaker 8: but I think it's more about he wears his heart
- 24:53Speaker 8: on his sleeve. He's incredibly just open for such a
- 24:58Speaker 8: superstar athlete. I mean, there's a humanity there that is
- 25:01Speaker 8: that is very rare. So people are drawn to him.
- 25:04Speaker 4: And including his colleagues.
- 25:05Speaker 8: Like he makes a point of when when some rookie wins,
- 25:08Speaker 8: you know, a B list tour event, Rory finds him
- 25:11Speaker 8: and congratulates him, and he said, you know that that's
- 25:13Speaker 8: important to him. He feels like, you know, he was
- 25:17Speaker 8: when he was coming up. Some of the old timers
- 25:18Speaker 8: did that to him and how much it meant to him.
- 25:21Speaker 8: He wants to carry on those little traditions and so
- 25:24Speaker 8: he just carries himself with a certain grace and a
- 25:26Speaker 8: certain ease.
- 25:27Speaker 4: That is quite endearing. So, yeah, he's very popular now.
- 25:32Speaker 8: He has reshaped the professional golf and how much affection
- 25:36Speaker 8: he has among his peers depends a little bit about
- 25:39Speaker 8: where they are on the money list, if you know.
- 25:43Speaker 4: As as Rory's had this vision of a.
- 25:47Speaker 8: More exclusive tour, smaller fields, more money, fewer events, a
- 25:52Speaker 8: few guys are getting left out of that, so they
- 25:54Speaker 8: may not have as much affection for Rory. But the
- 25:57Speaker 8: top players, he's put a hell of a lot of
- 25:58Speaker 8: money in their pocket and they love the guy for that.
- 26:01Speaker 1: What about when it was Rory versus basically live? Was
- 26:05Speaker 1: that very much wrestling on the outside and you know,
- 26:08Speaker 1: just so we would see it and so the pulp
- 26:10Speaker 1: or was that also internally tough?
- 26:13Speaker 8: It was a very messy, chaotic situation he but Rory's
- 26:19Speaker 8: always had a strong moral compass.
- 26:21Speaker 4: You know.
- 26:22Speaker 8: Even three years where I lived, golf launched. There's something
- 26:25Speaker 8: called the the Saudi International. It was a European tour
- 26:28Speaker 8: event and and he was, you know, offered ungodly amounts
- 26:33Speaker 8: of money to play there as an appearance fee, and
- 26:35Speaker 8: he said no, that you know, he wanted to be
- 26:37Speaker 8: on the right side of history and that there's a
- 26:39Speaker 8: morally to this because this is only a few months
- 26:41Speaker 8: after Jamal Kashogi had been assassinated by the Kingdom of
- 26:44Speaker 8: Saudi Arabia, and so Rory didn't want their money and
- 26:47Speaker 8: he was very clear about that and he really never wavered.
- 26:50Speaker 8: I mean, you know, his quote was, I want to
- 26:52Speaker 8: be on the right side of history. You know, he
- 26:55Speaker 8: revers Jack Nicholas and Arnold Palmer, and part of their
- 26:58Speaker 8: legacy is that they they create did the modern PGA
- 27:01Speaker 8: Tour by by breaking away from the pg of America,
- 27:03Speaker 8: which was this a little parochial organization. And you know,
- 27:08Speaker 8: Rory knows that history and he wanted to be remember
- 27:10Speaker 8: as the guy who helped.
- 27:10Speaker 4: Save the PGA Tour and he did and so you know,
- 27:13Speaker 4: his wish was granted. He is on the right side
- 27:15Speaker 4: of history.
- 27:15Speaker 8: So yeah, it was it was very sincere and very
- 27:19Speaker 8: from the heart this battle that he fought to try
- 27:21Speaker 8: and to try and represent.
- 27:24Speaker 4: The PGA Tour in a lot of ways. Represent the
- 27:25Speaker 4: game of golf.
- 27:27Speaker 1: How big was that win last year at the Masters
- 27:29Speaker 1: for Rory.
- 27:31Speaker 4: I mean monumental.
- 27:32Speaker 8: It transcended sport because he had been on this lifelong quest,
- 27:39Speaker 8: you know, to fulfill his destiny as this prodigy, and
- 27:42Speaker 8: he'd won everything else and he'd come to the Masters
- 27:45Speaker 8: year after year and failed.
- 27:47Speaker 4: And he you know, he'd had.
- 27:48Speaker 8: A famously out a four stroke lead in two thousand
- 27:50Speaker 8: and eleven going to the back nine, he blew up
- 27:54Speaker 8: and that's that, you know, Augustin Nashal became this house of.
- 27:57Speaker 4: Horrors for Rory, and so the outpouring of emotion around
- 28:03Speaker 4: that win.
- 28:03Speaker 8: It was not because he became the sixth man to
- 28:06Speaker 8: win the career Grand Slam. I mean, that's cool, it
- 28:09Speaker 8: has meaning in the context of the history of the sport,
- 28:12Speaker 8: But it was really the human element because you could
- 28:15Speaker 8: see the angels and the demons on his shoulder that
- 28:17Speaker 8: whole round, and he was playing the best golf.
- 28:20Speaker 4: Of his life. He had the low score in.
- 28:21Speaker 8: The tournament on Friday and Saturday, he was in total
- 28:24Speaker 8: control of his golf ball, and on Sunday he had
- 28:27Speaker 8: some of the worst shots and Masters history. It was
- 28:29Speaker 8: completely metaphysical and to watch him grapple with the weight
- 28:33Speaker 8: of history and what this meant to hit his legacy
- 28:35Speaker 8: and what it meant to him personally.
- 28:37Speaker 4: I mean, it was riveting.
- 28:38Speaker 8: It was the entire human condition on display in one
- 28:42Speaker 8: round of golf. And that's why people were crying on
- 28:45Speaker 8: their couches, and that's why it took over the sports
- 28:48Speaker 8: world because it was just the drama was so internal.
- 28:52Speaker 8: He was fighting this battle with himself and had nothing
- 28:54Speaker 8: to do with the golf course or the other players
- 28:57Speaker 8: in the field.
- 28:57Speaker 4: And I mean it was riveting.
- 29:00Speaker 1: You feel like that was more of a relief than
- 29:02Speaker 1: for him than it was initially than it was like
- 29:05Speaker 1: this monumental quest that it's finally been fulfilled.
- 29:08Speaker 4: It was all of it.
- 29:09Speaker 8: I mean, he said it was more relief than joy,
- 29:13Speaker 8: and that sort of that visceral outpouring that he had
- 29:17Speaker 8: on the last green and then that unforgettable walk, you know,
- 29:20Speaker 8: from the green to the scoring area, which is about
- 29:22Speaker 8: one hundred.
- 29:23Speaker 4: And fifty yards and you could see, you know, his
- 29:25Speaker 4: face is like a movie.
- 29:26Speaker 8: Screen, just playing out his lifetime of heartache and yearning
- 29:31Speaker 8: and disappointment and disillusionment, and then finally, you.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Know, just Catharsis. So it was, Yeah, it was. It
- 29:40Speaker 4: was a huge relief.
- 29:41Speaker 8: I think the joy has come after the fact, like
- 29:43Speaker 8: he's loved being the Master's champion, like he's been swanning
- 29:46Speaker 8: around this week in his green jacket and making all
- 29:49Speaker 8: the rounds, and like the joy came later.
- 29:52Speaker 4: I think initially it was all relieved.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Do you notice guys tightening up as the actual event
- 29:58Speaker 1: gets closer to starting.
- 30:00Speaker 4: Oh yeah, no, I definitely.
- 30:02Speaker 8: I mean Johnny Miller, who is one of the greatest
- 30:05Speaker 8: players in golf not to win the Masters.
- 30:07Speaker 4: I mean he said he started choking, like driving down
- 30:10Speaker 4: Magnolia Lane's It's just it's the crown jewel of the sport.
- 30:16Speaker 4: It's what every player wants say. I'll grow up watching
- 30:18Speaker 4: this tournament.
- 30:20Speaker 8: And it's such a mental battle. Just go out there
- 30:23Speaker 8: and play golf and just treat it like any other place.
- 30:26Speaker 8: I mean, Rory said the first time he came here
- 30:28Speaker 8: he was afraid to take a divot out of the
- 30:29Speaker 8: fairway because it's like such sacred earth, you.
- 30:32Speaker 4: Know, And so yeah, that is half the battle, is.
- 30:38Speaker 8: Just trying to be loose, trying to forget about where
- 30:40Speaker 8: you are, just hit golf shots.
- 30:42Speaker 4: Some guys are better at it than others.
- 30:44Speaker 8: But yeah, there's a very high choke factor around the
- 30:47Speaker 8: Masters because of all that comes with it.
- 30:50Speaker 1: If you're playing really well leading up to it, especially
- 30:54Speaker 1: other tournaments, a lot of times we can dictate, well,
- 30:56Speaker 1: he's been playing great, he's probably gonna play great here.
- 30:58Speaker 1: I feel like that's not always the case with the
- 31:00Speaker 1: Masters because exactly what you were talking about.
- 31:02Speaker 3: Would you agree with that, yes?
- 31:05Speaker 8: And then then there's the unique playability factors at Augusta National.
- 31:10Speaker 8: I mean, they are the scariest greens in championship golf.
- 31:14Speaker 8: So you take a guy like Cam Young, who who
- 31:17Speaker 8: won the Players Championship last month, you know, one of
- 31:19Speaker 8: the biggest tournaments on tour that is a he won
- 31:23Speaker 8: that tournament t degree and his ball striking was so
- 31:25Speaker 8: overwhelming that he had okay'd a pretty good week of putting.
- 31:32Speaker 8: But you know, he's not a great putter, So this
- 31:35Speaker 8: is not the ideal venue for him because it really
- 31:37Speaker 8: exposes your weaknesses. Same with the greens have all these
- 31:41Speaker 8: little quadrants and you have to be so precise, and
- 31:45Speaker 8: the penalty for a miss is so high.
- 31:47Speaker 4: So again, controlling.
- 31:50Speaker 8: Your distances with your iron is so paramount here more
- 31:53Speaker 8: than anywhere else. And so and then you know, chipping
- 31:56Speaker 8: around the greens, the grass is so short, the lies
- 31:59Speaker 8: are so tight, like it has to be a perfect
- 32:02Speaker 8: strike every time. So there is the emotional component, but
- 32:06Speaker 8: it's also this golf course and this setup puts certain
- 32:10Speaker 8: stresses on your game that don't really exist week to week,
- 32:12Speaker 8: and it will reveal your weaknesses without a doubt. So
- 32:16Speaker 8: it's a it's a very interesting and sort of thrilling
- 32:20Speaker 8: combination of the emotional and the physical demands that places
- 32:23Speaker 8: on the players.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Superstition in sports a big deal. And you know, I
- 32:29Speaker 1: have friends that play baseball and they're like, man if
- 32:31Speaker 1: I thaw a perfect session in the bullpen before a game,
- 32:34Speaker 1: it usually ain't gonna go very well. If you're playing
- 32:36Speaker 1: practice rounds. Does this translated all to AUGUSTA Like, if
- 32:40Speaker 1: you're just crushing practice rounds, is that a bad sign?
- 32:45Speaker 8: I don't think it's ever a bad sign. But it's
- 32:48Speaker 8: not a straight line correlation, that is for sure. And also,
- 32:53Speaker 8: this this week is gonna be a It's gonna be
- 32:55Speaker 8: a great Master's because there's no rain forecasts and there's
- 32:59Speaker 8: such a scade togronomy. They have these giant like basically
- 33:03Speaker 8: suction machines beneath the greens. They can dry them out overnight,
- 33:08Speaker 8: making them much firmer, faster, more demanding. They can drain
- 33:13Speaker 8: moisture at them if there is a little bit of rain,
- 33:17Speaker 8: they can change the greens so fast here that a
- 33:19Speaker 8: lot of players feel like from Monday, you know, kind
- 33:22Speaker 8: of the first practice round day to Thursday, the first
- 33:24Speaker 8: competitive round, that it's like a different golf course in
- 33:27Speaker 8: some ways, it just keeps getting.
- 33:29Speaker 4: Harder and harder and harder.
- 33:31Speaker 8: So I think it's always good to hit hit the
- 33:34Speaker 8: ball well and gain some confidence, but it's here more
- 33:39Speaker 8: than most places, it doesn't mean that much when when
- 33:42Speaker 8: the bell rings on Thursday morning, the demands get get tougher,
- 33:47Speaker 8: the questions that the course is asking get more complicated,
- 33:50Speaker 8: and it's a different.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Kind of challenge all and this is Eddie and my
- 33:54Speaker 1: co host.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Hey, Alan, I got a question.
- 33:56Speaker 5: Bobby was telling me that that at the Masters. I've
- 33:59Speaker 5: never but he was telling me that at the Masters
- 34:01Speaker 5: they take your phones away. You can't use them, or
- 34:03Speaker 5: you just can't take them out, or you get kicked out.
- 34:06Speaker 5: And I'm wondering does that create a more peaceful environment
- 34:11Speaker 5: with the crowd, because and speaking of Rory, I think
- 34:13Speaker 5: Rory's kind of had a history of snapping back at
- 34:16Speaker 5: the crowd because they yell at him, you know, being
- 34:18Speaker 5: a four not being from the US. So does that
- 34:20Speaker 5: kind of create a peaceful environment at the Masters?
- 34:24Speaker 4: Oh yeah, so I used to rage again some machine.
- 34:27Speaker 8: You know, the first X number of years, I was
- 34:30Speaker 8: so frustrated I couldn't have my phone because I couldn't
- 34:33Speaker 8: communicate with my editors and my fellow writers. I couldn't
- 34:36Speaker 8: communicate with my readers on you know, through tweets, which
- 34:39Speaker 8: is a big part of tournament weeks now, and I
- 34:43Speaker 8: was just bitter about.
- 34:44Speaker 4: The whole thing. And now I love it.
- 34:45Speaker 8: It's literally the only place on planet Earth where you
- 34:48Speaker 8: can just get away from your phone for eight or
- 34:51Speaker 8: ten or twelve hours and just just soak in all
- 34:54Speaker 8: the beautiful nature, lose yourself in the tournament, actually talk
- 34:57Speaker 8: to other human beings because they're they don't have their
- 35:01Speaker 8: phone either. You can actually engage. There's eye contact, like
- 35:04Speaker 8: what a concept. So it's it's unique to this event,
- 35:10Speaker 8: and it also makes people more present because, like you know,
- 35:12Speaker 8: you go to tournaments and everyone's got their phone out
- 35:14Speaker 8: trying to capture some crappy, little grainy video, like, bro,
- 35:17Speaker 8: this looks better on TV anyway, No one cares you
- 35:19Speaker 8: got a video of this, But people are so obsessed
- 35:23Speaker 8: with that.
- 35:23Speaker 4: And in this.
- 35:25Speaker 8: Case, when you take the phone away, they just get
- 35:26Speaker 8: into the golf. They're they're paying closer attention to what's
- 35:29Speaker 8: actually happening. They're they're they're having more fun with the
- 35:32Speaker 8: people around them.
- 35:32Speaker 4: So I've become a convert.
- 35:35Speaker 8: It's actually a blessing and a relief to just go
- 35:39Speaker 8: out there and lose yourself in in a in in
- 35:41Speaker 8: a great competition. But it's not replicable probably anywhere else
- 35:44Speaker 8: on the planet. But they somehow because they have unlimited
- 35:48Speaker 8: resources and because everyone's afraid, they're so vindictive.
- 35:51Speaker 4: If you break a rule, you're out forever, and so
- 35:54Speaker 4: somehow it works here.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Did you become more or less of a fan of
- 35:59Speaker 1: Rory after writing this book?
- 36:01Speaker 4: That's a good question.
- 36:02Speaker 8: I mean, I tried to be a dispassionate observer. I
- 36:05Speaker 8: would never describe myself as a fan. But you are human,
- 36:09Speaker 8: you know, and you do have emotions, and I would
- 36:14Speaker 8: say that of course, I knew the broad strokes of
- 36:17Speaker 8: his life and his journey, and when you get into
- 36:19Speaker 8: the details of it, it's really remarkable how far he's traveled.
- 36:23Speaker 4: And I have a lot of admiration for Roora. I
- 36:26Speaker 4: think he's.
- 36:26Speaker 8: Conducted himself with a tremendous amount of grace growing up
- 36:30Speaker 8: in the spotlight. I mean, you look at the three
- 36:32Speaker 8: biggest golfers the last thirty plus years, Tiger, Bill, Michelson,
- 36:37Speaker 8: and Rory, and two of them have had their lives
- 36:39Speaker 8: totally derailed by scandal.
- 36:42Speaker 4: By addiction, by vice, by greed.
- 36:47Speaker 8: And everywhere where he goes he's universally beloved and accepted,
- 36:51Speaker 8: and he's welcomed and he's just carried himself. He just
- 36:56Speaker 8: moves through the world with an ease that's really refreshing
- 36:59Speaker 8: for a top athlete. And he's never really.
- 37:02Speaker 4: Forgotten his roots.
- 37:03Speaker 8: You know, his parents travel and he talks about his
- 37:06Speaker 8: parents all the time their influence on him. His closest
- 37:09Speaker 8: friends are the kids he grew up with in this
- 37:10Speaker 8: little town outside of Belfast. And you know, he has
- 37:14Speaker 8: the jet and the mansions and the cars, but deep
- 37:17Speaker 8: down he's sort of the same person. And I find
- 37:20Speaker 8: that very impressive and admirable. So I would say my
- 37:24Speaker 8: esteem for Rory definitely went up throughout this whole project.
- 37:27Speaker 1: How about Phil when you wrote that book, How did
- 37:30Speaker 1: the esteem go with that Phil book?
- 37:34Speaker 8: Well, the big difference is that the Phil is a
- 37:38Speaker 8: maniac and Rory is not. But I mean, when I
- 37:43Speaker 8: do these biographies, I don't feel like it's my duty
- 37:46Speaker 8: to legislate to people how they should feel about the athlete.
- 37:50Speaker 8: I just want to capture the totality of them as
- 37:53Speaker 8: a person, as a player, and so you know, in
- 37:56Speaker 8: the philm book, I was very happy to celebrate his philanthropy,
- 38:00Speaker 8: all his random acts of kindness to fans and others,
- 38:03Speaker 8: his mentorship of young players, and he's done a lot
- 38:06Speaker 8: of great things in life. There's also been a tremendous
- 38:08Speaker 8: amount of messiness and.
- 38:10Speaker 4: It's all in the book. And the reaction was interesting.
- 38:14Speaker 4: A lot of people read the book and said, I
- 38:15Speaker 4: actually liked Phil Moore because.
- 38:17Speaker 8: He's more human to me. I can see he's flawed,
- 38:20Speaker 8: but I appreciate him. And he also lost plenty.
- 38:23Speaker 4: Of fans who read in the book.
- 38:24Speaker 8: You know, the way he treats Caddy, the scale of
- 38:28Speaker 8: his gambling debts, and so it was kind of split
- 38:32Speaker 8: down the middle, which told me I might have done
- 38:34Speaker 8: a good job as a biographer just presenting this very
- 38:36Speaker 8: complex person. You know, Rory does not have Phil's demons,
- 38:40Speaker 8: but it's the same mandate is just to capture.
- 38:42Speaker 4: Who they are and let readers.
- 38:44Speaker 8: Kind of, you know, decide how they feel about him.
- 38:47Speaker 8: And so, you know, Rory's had his controversies and his
- 38:50Speaker 8: business life and his love life, and they're all in
- 38:52Speaker 8: the book because I have to be. But ultimately, I
- 38:55Speaker 8: think it's it's a kind of a feel good story
- 38:57Speaker 8: because it has a happy ending with the masters and
- 39:00Speaker 8: with some.
- 39:01Speaker 4: Of this stuff off the golf course for him.
- 39:03Speaker 8: And we've been on this journey with Rory and he's
- 39:06Speaker 8: he's taken it on the chin many times. You know, he's,
- 39:09Speaker 8: you know, sort of like Phil, He's going to be
- 39:11Speaker 8: defined by his losses as much as by his victories,
- 39:14Speaker 8: and and through it all, he's he's he's he's had
- 39:18Speaker 8: a certain grace about it, and he's never stopped coming
- 39:21Speaker 8: back and and so yeah, it's I think it's a
- 39:23Speaker 8: feel good book, even while it's clear eyed about some
- 39:27Speaker 8: of his you know, laws and and Floyable's the book.
- 39:29Speaker 1: It's called Rory, The Heartache and Triumph of Golf's Most
- 39:32Speaker 1: Human Superstar just came out, and Alan, thank you so
- 39:36Speaker 1: much for your time. I hope book sells like a
- 39:38Speaker 1: billion copies and I hope you have a great time
- 39:41Speaker 1: out of it. I'm assuming you're in Augusta now.
- 39:43Speaker 4: I'm in Augusta.
- 39:44Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm back across the street from Augusta National in
- 39:47Speaker 8: this corporate hospitality tent. Because you can't have your phone,
- 39:51Speaker 8: You're You're kind of trapped in the media center. They
- 39:53Speaker 8: don't really have places for podcasters and stuff. So I'm
- 39:58Speaker 8: here eating free food and drink, but right across the street,
- 40:02Speaker 8: so I'll get there eventually.
- 40:04Speaker 1: I hope everybody checks out the book. Alan, thank you
- 40:06Speaker 1: so much, and hopefully we'll talk to you again soon.
- 40:08Speaker 4: All right, thanks guys, I appreciate you.

- 41:57Speaker 1: and I like them both. Rascini has been on the
- 42:00Speaker 1: show a couple of times. She's awesome. Everybody here I
- 42:06Speaker 1: know the loves Rabel loves him.
- 42:08Speaker 3: You ever met Rabel?
- 42:11Speaker 1: I got invited up like golf with them once. I
- 42:12Speaker 1: didn't go that. I think that would have been the
- 42:14Speaker 1: only time. I don't think I ever met him in passing.
- 42:16Speaker 3: Have you, Kevin?
- 42:17Speaker 4: No?
- 42:18Speaker 9: I wish I would have thought you would have, just
- 42:22Speaker 9: because he was in Nashville.
- 42:24Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 42:25Speaker 1: The problem is I don't do anything. Generally speaking, I
- 42:31Speaker 1: do nothing.
- 42:31Speaker 6: You make a good book, like I work.
- 42:33Speaker 1: And if it's work, I go for work. I don't
- 42:36Speaker 1: just a pee. I know, I don't really want to
- 42:38Speaker 1: go hang out with new people. It's not that I
- 42:39Speaker 1: don't like people, but man, that's a lot of work effort.
- 42:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:42Speaker 1: So I got invited to the to play golf with
- 42:44Speaker 1: Rabel once, and I didn't go because I didn't know
- 42:47Speaker 1: the other two people either.
- 42:49Speaker 6: Were they coaches or anything. Now, remember just regular people.
- 42:53Speaker 1: They're regular people. And one of them I have met
- 42:55Speaker 1: a couple of times through like's like work, and they're like, hey,
- 42:59Speaker 1: why don't you come play golf. It's Detta and Mike Vrabel.
- 43:02Speaker 1: And then I was just like, man, I don't know anybody.
- 43:05Speaker 1: And it's not that I don't want to hang out
- 43:06Speaker 1: with people. I get nervous if I'm playing. I don't
- 43:08Speaker 1: know how good a golfers they are. Yeah, if they're
- 43:10Speaker 1: all really good golfers and I go out there as
- 43:12Speaker 1: a twelve handicap and I'm okay, But especially I haven't played,
- 43:15Speaker 1: like right now, probably a hundred. I gotta play in
- 43:17Speaker 1: this stupid turnach this thing. In three weeks, I've not
- 43:19Speaker 1: touched a golf club, and I'm nervous not to play
- 43:22Speaker 1: golf because I'm gonna be with good people. You don't
- 43:24Speaker 1: like to be that embarrassing player. That's embarrassing to me.
- 43:27Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 43:28Speaker 1: It's hard for me to be embarrassed at this point
- 43:30Speaker 1: in my life, because again, I don't mind uncomfortable. Inness
- 43:32Speaker 1: I'm embarrassed if I'm on the tea box with good
- 43:33Speaker 1: players and I hit in the shanky right in the woods.
- 43:35Speaker 6: Is it anything athletically or just golf specifically.
- 43:38Speaker 1: You think it's mostly golf because that you just never know.
- 43:41Speaker 9: Yeah, and it's literally shot in the shot, Yeah, and
- 43:44Speaker 9: anything athletically.
- 43:45Speaker 1: I feel like I can kind of keep up, So
- 43:49Speaker 1: Diana vers Any, I like Rabel. I know people that
- 43:51Speaker 1: know them and they really like them. So it's weird
- 43:53Speaker 1: to talk about two people.
- 43:54Speaker 4: You kind of like.
- 43:57Speaker 1: The interlocking the fingers. Because I looked at pictures again
- 44:00Speaker 1: last night and this is days in and I.
- 44:02Speaker 3: Saw the studied them.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Well, I saw the people they had shopped at like
- 44:05Speaker 1: four different outlets for you, and they were like, hey, TMZ,
- 44:07Speaker 1: do you want to buy it? TMZ didn't really, And
- 44:09Speaker 1: my only point with bringing it up again is there
- 44:11Speaker 1: are a lot of people online, even with blue check marks,
- 44:17Speaker 1: that have semi credentialed sports history, that are assuming now
- 44:21Speaker 1: that somebody had hired a PI to go and get
- 44:24Speaker 1: these pictures. Really, because how else because that picture of
- 44:28Speaker 1: them from far away with the mountains, you know, the
- 44:30Speaker 1: one that's yeah, how else are you randomly going to
- 44:33Speaker 1: get that unless you're there waiting for.
- 44:35Speaker 6: That, And that's a that's not like a phone camera,
- 44:37Speaker 6: I don't think, right.
- 44:38Speaker 4: And it's so zoomed in, so zoomed in.
- 44:40Speaker 1: I phone kind of rocks though.
- 44:41Speaker 5: Now, to be honest, so what do you think about
- 44:43Speaker 5: like who hires a PI liked?
- 44:47Speaker 1: I don't know that, but if you're asking me, and
- 44:49Speaker 1: I would have never thought this. I just see a
- 44:51Speaker 1: lot of that online that it was so out there,
- 44:55Speaker 1: which is why they probably went there that you're not
- 44:58Speaker 1: just going to. And also, if you're not a sports fan,
- 45:01Speaker 1: you don't know who Mike Vrabel and Diana Russini correct, correct,
- 45:05Speaker 1: they ain't Bieber. Yes, they're not even Steph Curry, who
- 45:09Speaker 1: is in sports and crosses over a bit.
- 45:11Speaker 6: The only thing that makes him saying no, he's big.
- 45:13Speaker 7: No.
- 45:13Speaker 5: But even then, you wouldn't look at those two and
- 45:15Speaker 5: think like, oh, yeah, that's exactly I know exactly who
- 45:18Speaker 5: that is.
- 45:18Speaker 3: I agreed, Unless you're a sports fan.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Do you think do you think they were just getting it?
- 45:26Speaker 3: I will say it doesn't. I will say it doesn't
- 45:28Speaker 3: look good.
- 45:29Speaker 1: What do you if you had to bet money on
- 45:30Speaker 1: here's one hundred bucks, do you think they're making it on? Yes?
- 45:33Speaker 3: You yeah?
- 45:34Speaker 5: I was, Yeah, And I'm not judging. I'm just taking
- 45:37Speaker 5: my money and betting it to make sure, that does
- 45:40Speaker 5: it all?
- 45:40Speaker 1: Man?
- 45:41Speaker 3: Well, and then you know they're hanging by.
- 45:43Speaker 1: The pool and they were just those two and they
- 45:44Speaker 1: keep saying that all these friends were with them. I've
- 45:46Speaker 1: not seen any pictures of any friends.
- 45:47Speaker 6: That's what I was thinking too.
- 45:48Speaker 9: I was like, if you have friends, your friends need
- 45:50Speaker 9: to come out right now and post all the pictures.
- 45:52Speaker 1: Also, I don't care, meaning if they're cheating in their
- 45:56Speaker 1: families or hurt, that sucks for their families. I ain't judging.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Who knows. They could have had arrangements. Hey, honey, I
- 46:02Speaker 1: get to bang Rable once a year, right, Yes, you
- 46:04Speaker 1: know Bill Gates has that, had that with his ex wife.
- 46:07Speaker 1: He got the way where his old girlfriend once.
- 46:08Speaker 4: A year early.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Yeah, that wild wild. So I'm not going to judge
- 46:13Speaker 1: anybody for any action if no kids or animals are
- 46:16Speaker 1: being hurt, and if they're generally not hurt. But I
- 46:18Speaker 1: don't like, I'm not like awful people. But yeah, they're
- 46:22Speaker 1: probably doing it right.
- 46:25Speaker 7: I would.
- 46:25Speaker 6: I was thinking how I could defend it to They weren't.
- 46:27Speaker 5: But I'm like, is there a game that you play
- 46:30Speaker 5: were you interlocked fingers?
- 46:31Speaker 1: Like? Great?
- 46:32Speaker 4: Was it?
- 46:33Speaker 7: So?
- 46:33Speaker 1: Red Rover would just.
- 46:35Speaker 5: Going to run or they're doing that like when you
- 46:39Speaker 5: live practicing for something like that.
- 46:41Speaker 1: No, you hold your hands up and the people come
- 46:43Speaker 1: through the starting line.
- 46:43Speaker 5: Yes, Yang, because wasn't there an event like down the
- 46:47Speaker 5: road or something?
- 46:49Speaker 1: They were here? Yeah, Eddie, who thinks they were getting
- 46:52Speaker 1: ready for the pro day?
- 46:52Speaker 3: So maybe yeah, that's what the players come out.
- 46:55Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 46:56Speaker 6: Yeah, not good man, but man, I hope he wins
- 46:58Speaker 6: a bunch of games this year.
- 47:00Speaker 1: That's your coach.
- 47:01Speaker 6: That's my coach, dude.
- 47:02Speaker 3: That's like when you ask me about Dac. I'm just like, Man,
- 47:04Speaker 3: it's not good, but hey, still love the guys, my quarterback.
- 47:09Speaker 1: Okay, So I did an interview with Michael Strahan and
- 47:11Speaker 1: it was fantastic and I hope you heard it on
- 47:13Speaker 1: the Bobby Cast and we really didn't talk about it
- 47:15Speaker 1: here on Sports. But if you did miss it, I'm
- 47:17Speaker 1: not playing the whole thing, but I do want to
- 47:18Speaker 1: play like ten minutes of the conversation with him when
- 47:21Speaker 1: we talked about like his wild sports journey and so
- 47:24Speaker 1: Michael Strahan Hall of Famer. Mostly if you missed it,
- 47:28Speaker 1: you can go hear us talk about him going to space,
- 47:30Speaker 1: him doing Michael and Kelly and good morning America. And
- 47:35Speaker 1: do we ever get the suits from him? They ever
- 47:36Speaker 1: follow up?
- 47:37Speaker 3: No, what's he saying? He's sending you suits? Yeah, he's
- 47:41Speaker 3: lineup bell.
- 47:42Speaker 1: Should we follow up?
- 47:43Speaker 4: Should we?
- 47:44Speaker 6: I have some of his dress shirts, said about a
- 47:46Speaker 6: few years ago.
- 47:46Speaker 7: They're awesome.
- 47:47Speaker 1: I'm going to follow up.
- 47:48Speaker 3: Give me your measurements. Just send it over. Yes, do it.
- 47:52Speaker 1: He says he's gonna send me a couple of suits
- 47:54Speaker 1: from a suit line. Oh nice, I never followed up.
- 47:56Speaker 1: I should just to see if they send me the suits.
- 47:58Speaker 1: Oh that's a good point. I should just send over
- 48:01Speaker 1: my measurement. Good point him. He made it. He said,
- 48:05Speaker 1: just send over your measures, don't ask like, Hey, was
- 48:07Speaker 1: he serious about this? Hey? Mike said he's gonna send
- 48:10Speaker 1: over some suits. Here are the measurements. How need you
- 48:14Speaker 1: guys to measure me?
- 48:16Speaker 3: Get the tape?
- 48:19Speaker 1: All right? Here is Michael Straighthan. You're a big dude,
- 48:22Speaker 1: but you're a very warm guy. You feel like you've
- 48:24Speaker 1: always been that way towards people.
- 48:26Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I appreciate that. Yeah, I've always felt like
- 48:30Speaker 7: people are important. I was always growing up as a kid,
- 48:34Speaker 7: was kind of had those jobs that you weren't the
- 48:36Speaker 7: scene person in when you're cutting the grass or you're
- 48:39Speaker 7: moving furniture and people just don't see you. You're kind
- 48:42Speaker 7: of just there. So for me, it's always about being
- 48:46Speaker 7: warm and making people feel seen so and I like people,
- 48:50Speaker 7: so yeah, I always I feel like I'm that guy
- 48:52Speaker 7: except for the football field. Outside of that, I'm actually
- 48:56Speaker 7: pretty nice.
- 48:57Speaker 1: Was that a switch?
- 49:00Speaker 7: Oh yeah, Oh yeah. You gotta have a switch. You
- 49:03Speaker 7: have to be able. It's weird. When I was a
- 49:06Speaker 7: kid kid, being like twenty one in the first year
- 49:09Speaker 7: in the league, you have to. You think for years,
- 49:12Speaker 7: like I got to be mad at that guy. I
- 49:15Speaker 7: gotta be mad. He said something about my mama, like
- 49:18Speaker 7: you're creating all these scenarios in your head. But as
- 49:21Speaker 7: I got older, it was, hey, we can have the
- 49:25Speaker 7: conversation right now. Like I say, hold on, Bobby, put
- 49:27Speaker 7: my helmet on, run out there, look at the guy,
- 49:30Speaker 7: smile at him, beat him up a little bit, come back,
- 49:32Speaker 7: put the helmet down, and continue the conversation. It was
- 49:35Speaker 7: more about learning how to control your aggression and how
- 49:38Speaker 7: to control your focus, and it took me some years
- 49:41Speaker 7: to do it, but it made the game easier, made
- 49:44Speaker 7: it more relaxed, made it more fun, less stressful. So yeah,
- 49:48Speaker 7: I definitely felt like you have to have a switch.
- 49:52Speaker 7: If you don't, you'll burn yourself out quickly.
- 49:54Speaker 1: I know. He spent time going up in Germany. I'd
- 49:56Speaker 1: never been until recently, and I stopped in Munich and
- 49:59Speaker 1: I got a hot dog, and I really put I
- 50:02Speaker 1: put a lot of pressure on that hot dog being
- 50:04Speaker 1: good just because you got a broathw was I got it? Yes,
- 50:07Speaker 1: and so at high, hopes high, and I got and
- 50:10Speaker 1: it met every expectation that I could have ever had. Yes,
- 50:14Speaker 1: And I talk about it to know if anybody's like
- 50:16Speaker 1: you ever been to Germany, I'm like, not only have
- 50:18Speaker 1: I been to Germany, let.
- 50:19Speaker 6: Me tell you about this hot dog at a street fair.
- 50:21Speaker 1: It was abroad. It was definitely a broade. So what
- 50:24Speaker 1: ages were you there?
- 50:26Speaker 7: I was. We moved in Germany and when I was nine,
- 50:29Speaker 7: and then I came back to the States for half
- 50:32Speaker 7: of my senior year to play football and lived with
- 50:36Speaker 7: my uncle in Houston for five months, got one football
- 50:39Speaker 7: scholarship the Texas Southern, got back on the plane in
- 50:42Speaker 7: December for Christmas, and flew back to Germany and graduated
- 50:45Speaker 7: high school.
- 50:46Speaker 4: There.
- 50:46Speaker 7: So I was there from nine till seventeen, eighteen years old.
- 50:51Speaker 7: My parents stayed until I was twenty seven. I was
- 50:54Speaker 7: in the NFL for a six seven years before my
- 50:56Speaker 7: parents moved back, so I would still go back. I
- 50:58Speaker 7: go see my family. Obviously, I felt when I first
- 51:02Speaker 7: came back here for high school. For that half of
- 51:04Speaker 7: my senior year, I felt more a German and European
- 51:07Speaker 7: than I felt American. That was home, and yeah, it
- 51:12Speaker 7: was definitely a culture shock to come back to the States.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Did you only play American football then for one year?
- 51:21Speaker 7: I played one year in high school. Yeah, I had
- 51:23Speaker 7: no idea what I was doing. Man, I was just
- 51:25Speaker 7: like running around getting the guy with the ball, just whoever.
- 51:29Speaker 7: I had no idea. I knew no technique. I watched
- 51:33Speaker 7: the game on TV. You know, you just tackle the
- 51:36Speaker 7: guy with the ball. So if I could do that,
- 51:39Speaker 7: I got one scholarship and then from there I figured
- 51:42Speaker 7: it out and I learned. You know, I've really learned
- 51:44Speaker 7: a lot about how to do it. I watched TV, man,
- 51:48Speaker 7: I would watch NFL games on Sunday. Even when I
- 51:51Speaker 7: was in college, I'd watch NFL games on Sunday. And
- 51:53Speaker 7: I'm just watching a guy and what he's doing and
- 51:55Speaker 7: how he's successful at different things. And I remember reading
- 51:59Speaker 7: in those there's something and the magazine that needs to
- 52:03Speaker 7: have the players their size, their weight, all these things,
- 52:07Speaker 7: and I remember going, I need to be sixty five
- 52:09Speaker 7: to fifty. I need to be six five two fifty.
- 52:14Speaker 7: And my brothers aren't big guys, really, And I ended
- 52:17Speaker 7: up being like six' five at times in my, career
- 52:20Speaker 7: a little bit over to fifty other big. Bone but
- 52:24Speaker 7: but by the end but by by by the end
- 52:26Speaker 7: of the, DAY i ended up being what always the
- 52:28Speaker 7: MAGIC i needed to be in order to be successful
- 52:31Speaker 7: in THE. Nfl it's.
- 52:32Speaker 1: CRAZY i think it's been pretty amazing to watch the
- 52:35Speaker 1: new professional identity you've. Created BUT i, do AND i
- 52:38Speaker 1: work for THE, nfl AND i work With Matt, castle
- 52:40Speaker 1: who was a, quarterback and we talked a lot about
- 52:41Speaker 1: athletes who when they leave they kind of have to
- 52:43Speaker 1: figure out who they are because all they've ever done
- 52:46Speaker 1: is be that was that you know mentally for?
- 52:49Speaker 3: You was that a?
- 52:50Speaker 1: Struggle?
- 52:51Speaker 7: ABSOLUTELY i KNEW i had a job With fox WHEN i,
- 52:54Speaker 7: RETIRED i, mean that was that was. Done i'd already
- 52:57Speaker 7: had a deal that sign and put in the drawer
- 52:59Speaker 7: and the first year of that deal went by AND
- 53:01Speaker 7: i STILL i went back to The. Giants it wasn't
- 53:04Speaker 7: about having a. Job it was about having a you,
- 53:07Speaker 7: know being. Comfortable and my first year At, fox first three,
- 53:10Speaker 7: WEEKS i was THINKING i should have gone back to play.
- 53:13Speaker 4: Football THIS tv stuff is not for.
- 53:17Speaker 7: Me it's. Hard it's a lot harder than it. Looks
- 53:21Speaker 7: but ONCE i got it, DOWN i love. It but,
- 53:23Speaker 7: yeah football was just it's something we've done on our
- 53:25Speaker 7: whole lives and how do you transition out of? That
- 53:29Speaker 7: and you walk into a room and you feel like
- 53:31Speaker 7: that's all everybody sees as a football. Player they don't
- 53:35Speaker 7: see the human being and they don't see someone who
- 53:37Speaker 7: has the other, interests someone who is more rounded than
- 53:41Speaker 7: what they expected an athlete to. Be, so, yeah that
- 53:44Speaker 7: was a big adjustment for. Me even THOUGH i KNEW
- 53:45Speaker 7: i had a, job it still was.
- 53:47Speaker 1: Tough did you feel like when you would go into
- 53:49Speaker 1: a room that you would try to prove you were
- 53:52Speaker 1: more of what you actually, were but try to be
- 53:54Speaker 1: more of that so people would take you as that
- 53:56Speaker 1: instead of just an.
- 53:57Speaker 7: ATHLETE i think at some POINT i probably, probably BUT
- 54:04Speaker 7: i REMEMBER i was talking to a movie, guy movie,
- 54:08Speaker 7: producer AND i remember saying to, Him, yeah you, KNOW
- 54:11Speaker 7: i feel LIKE i go into these things BECAUSE i
- 54:14Speaker 7: THOUGHT i wanted to be an actur at that. Point
- 54:16Speaker 7: So i'm, like, YEAH i go to these auditions AND
- 54:18Speaker 7: i feel LIKE i walk in and they just go
- 54:20Speaker 7: here the football. Player and he, said people will see
- 54:22Speaker 7: you as you see. Yourself and he said, that and
- 54:26Speaker 7: it kind of, Like, OKAY i got to take myself
- 54:29Speaker 7: out of just that football player of. Mentality and ONCE
- 54:32Speaker 7: i did, that it's like a lot of different things
- 54:35Speaker 7: started to. HAPPEN i think people did see me in
- 54:37Speaker 7: a different. LIGHT i think being just taking advantage of,
- 54:42Speaker 7: opportunities and by THAT i mean getting over the fear of,
- 54:46Speaker 7: failure to, fail your fear of being in front of
- 54:49Speaker 7: a group of people and something not working, out just
- 54:52Speaker 7: saying yes to something just for the experience of. It
- 54:55Speaker 7: and see where that. Led AND i look back now
- 54:57Speaker 7: And i'm so grateful THAT i kind of got over
- 54:59Speaker 7: the fear of the, failure the fear of feeling like
- 55:04Speaker 7: you're you're you're gonna look stupid if you do, something
- 55:07Speaker 7: and just get rid of all that. Stuff drop your
- 55:09Speaker 7: ego at the door and go to. Work and that's
- 55:13Speaker 7: WHAT i did and it's worked.
- 55:14Speaker 1: OUT i want to ask about the coach vic experience
- 55:18Speaker 1: as a kid growing up Love Michael Vicker Virginia, tech
- 55:21Speaker 1: like he was that. DUDE i read the, commercials The
- 55:24Speaker 1: Mike Vick experienced commercial on the roller, coaster you, know
- 55:27Speaker 1: so the rise Of Mike vick and then you know
- 55:29Speaker 1: when he went to prison and he's back At So
- 55:31Speaker 1: i've just kind of Seen Mike vick the roller coaster
- 55:34Speaker 1: Of Mike. Vick AND i wonder, now BECAUSE i don't
- 55:36Speaker 1: know him and he's coaching, now, like what did you
- 55:39Speaker 1: take away From Mike vick as an adult and as
- 55:41Speaker 1: a coach and as a leader of.
- 55:43Speaker 7: Men, well one THING i will say about mikeah That
- 55:46Speaker 7: i've Known mike a long time AND i have so
- 55:49Speaker 7: much respect for him because he realized what got him
- 55:53Speaker 7: in trouble back in the day and the way that
- 55:56Speaker 7: he was living his life back in the, day that
- 55:59Speaker 7: that was the wrong way to live his. Life and
- 56:01Speaker 7: here's the guy who grew up in a certain, way
- 56:04Speaker 7: doing certain things that seemed normal for the community that
- 56:07Speaker 7: he came, from but they weren't and they weren't, Right
- 56:09Speaker 7: so he paid his, debt he went to, prison came
- 56:13Speaker 7: out of, prison got back on the football, field but
- 56:15Speaker 7: also had a lot of you, know he owed a
- 56:18Speaker 7: lot of money to a lot of, people but he
- 56:20Speaker 7: didn't found bankruptc and rip everybody. Off he paid people.
- 56:23Speaker 7: Back SO i look At mike AND i Think mike
- 56:25Speaker 7: has a lot of. HONOR i think as a, COACH
- 56:29Speaker 7: i don't know if there's any other PLAYER i would,
- 56:32Speaker 7: LISTEN i would be. Amazed BUT i look At mike
- 56:36Speaker 7: AND i look At. DION i, mean these guys some
- 56:38Speaker 7: of the goats of what they, did and they both
- 56:40Speaker 7: are the guys who were signature like they're so incredible
- 56:43Speaker 7: at the, time they're one of the few football players
- 56:45Speaker 7: at the top with their own, shoes with their own
- 56:47Speaker 7: apparel line Through, Nike like we didn't get that as football.
- 56:50Speaker 7: Players that's how exceptional these two. Were AND i Love
- 56:53Speaker 7: mike as a coach BECAUSE i think he's had some
- 56:55Speaker 7: life experiences that other, kids these kids need to. Hear
- 57:00Speaker 7: the kids need to experience someone who's been on, top
- 57:02Speaker 7: who's been on the, bottom who's making the way. Back
- 57:05Speaker 7: AND i think as a, coach it is so, much
- 57:09Speaker 7: probably more than he thought it was going to. Be
- 57:12Speaker 7: it's a lot to bite. Off it's a lot of,
- 57:14Speaker 7: work there's a lot of time away from your. Family
- 57:16Speaker 7: they're the REASON i got INTO tv BECAUSE i wouldn't
- 57:18Speaker 7: want to be a. Coach SO i think that might
- 57:21Speaker 7: give a great example of. RESILIENCE i think he's a
- 57:24Speaker 7: great example paying your debt to society and getting back
- 57:26Speaker 7: on your. Feet AND i hopefully he can Turn Norfolk
- 57:29Speaker 7: state back around because last year with a rough. Year
- 57:33Speaker 7: BUT i think he's also learning along with these kids
- 57:37Speaker 7: as a, coach AND i think they're learning from him as.
- 57:40Speaker 1: Men do you think you could have played another?
- 57:42Speaker 8: Year?
- 57:43Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 57:43Speaker 7: Absolutely?
- 57:44Speaker 8: Why?
- 57:45Speaker 7: Yeah why DIDN'T i SAY i walked off to, Field,
- 57:47Speaker 7: BOBBY i didn't Let?
- 57:48Speaker 4: Okay why and we won a Super? Bowl?
- 57:51Speaker 7: MAN i had fifteen. YEARS i did EVERYTHING i wanted to.
- 57:54Speaker 7: Do there was nothing left to. Do what Was i'd
- 57:56Speaker 7: won every, Awards i've done all the individual, stuff and
- 58:00Speaker 7: after so many years of, that you kind of, go
- 58:02Speaker 7: this is not really. Fulfilling the only THING i hadn't
- 58:05Speaker 7: done was one Of Super. Bowl so once that, happened it's,
- 58:09Speaker 7: like why AM i sticking around for the money to
- 58:11Speaker 7: blow my? Knee out and the next, THING i got
- 58:13Speaker 7: something that's gonna mess me up for the rest of
- 58:16Speaker 7: my life for a few. Bucks AND i just kind
- 58:19Speaker 7: of feel confident enough THAT i could make something happen
- 58:22Speaker 7: outside of the game of, football and Thankfully i've been
- 58:25Speaker 7: able to do. That but, YEAH i could have played another. Year,
- 58:27Speaker 7: PHYSICALLY i felt. Great there are DAYS i wake up
- 58:30Speaker 7: now AND i feel LIKE i can give them another.
- 58:31Speaker 1: Year who have you been able to interview that you
- 58:36Speaker 1: were starstruck by when you sat down with?
- 58:39Speaker 7: Them you?
- 58:42Speaker 1: Stop what about?
- 58:43Speaker 4: It we're gonna stop? It like what about an?
- 58:44Speaker 1: Athletic WHEN i Interviewed Derek jeter thought that was pretty. Cool,
- 58:48Speaker 1: well it's usually anybody from WHEN i was a kid
- 58:50Speaker 1: THAT i looked up, to because WHEN i meet, Them i'm,
- 58:52Speaker 1: like this is crazy BECAUSE i still have that inside of,
- 58:55Speaker 1: me even IF i know everything's like real and you,
- 58:57Speaker 1: know people are, people but like WHEN i meet somebody
- 58:59Speaker 1: from WHEN i was a, KID i still have those.
- 59:01Speaker 7: FEELINGS i, mean you know, what the guy that they're
- 59:05Speaker 7: really Good jeter's my. BUDDY i, MEAN i don't get
- 59:08Speaker 7: me started on that, knucklehead BUT i love. It the
- 59:12Speaker 7: one guy WHO i love too is a good friend
- 59:15Speaker 7: and everything, else but you see him and you're still,
