- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn German with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. So last time we were at a restaurant, ordering food. But today, let's talk numbers. Bigger numbers. Lucas: Right. We've done 1 to 10, and 11 to 20. Now we're going from 20 all the way to 100. Ready? Luna: I'm ready. Let's start with 20. Lucas: 20 is zwanzig. Say it with me: zwanzig. Luna: Zwanzig. Lucas: Good. Now 30 is dreißig. That one's a little different. Dreißig. Luna: Dreißig. Lucas: Perfect. 40 is vierzig. Vierzig. Luna: Vierzig. Lucas: 50 is fünfzig. Fünfzig. Luna: Fünfzig. Lucas: 60 is sechzig. Sechzig. Luna: Sechzig. Lucas: 70 is siebzig. Siebzig. Luna: Siebzig. Lucas: 80 is achtzig. Achtzig. Luna: Achtzig. Lucas: 90 is neunzig. Neunzig. Luna: Neunzig. Lucas: And 100 is hundert. Hundert. Luna: Hundert. Lucas: Excellent. Now let's practice counting by tens: zwanzig, dreißig, vierzig, fünfzig, sechzig, siebzig, achtzig, neunzig, hundert. Luna: Zwanzig, dreißig, vierzig, fünfzig, sechzig, siebzig, achtzig, neunzig, hundert. Lucas: You got it. Now, to make numbers like 21, 22, etc., you say the unit first, then 'und', then the tens. So 21 is einundzwanzig. Literally 'one and twenty'. Luna: Einundzwanzig. Lucas: Yes. 22 is zweiundzwanzig. Two and twenty. Luna: Zweiundzwanzig. Lucas: 23 is dreiundzwanzig. Luna: Dreiundzwanzig. Lucas: Great. So 34 would be vierunddreißig. 45 is fünfundvierzig. 56 is sechsundfünfzig. 67 is siebenundsechzig. 78 is achtundsiebzig. 89 is neunundachtzig. 99 is neunundneunzig. Luna: Neunundneunzig. That's a mouthful! Lucas: It is, but you'll get it. Let's do a quick practice. How do you say 37? Luna: Umm... siebenunddreißig? Lucas: Yes! Siebenunddreißig. Perfect. Luna: Oh, that's not so hard. Lucas: Now, imagine you're at a market and you want to say something costs 25 euros. How would you say that? Luna: Fünfundzwanzig Euro? Lucas: Exactly. Fünfundzwanzig Euro. So let's practice a dialogue. I'll be the seller, you be the buyer. I say: 'Das kostet dreißig Euro.' What do you say? Luna: Ah, das ist zu teuer! Maybe I say: 'Haben Sie etwas für zwanzig Euro?' Lucas: Good! 'Haben Sie etwas für zwanzig Euro?' Very natural. Luna: So numbers are really useful for shopping. Lucas: Absolutely. And for telling time, giving your age, all sorts of things. Let's go through the tens one more time slowly. Zwanzig. Luna: Zwanzig. Lucas: Dreißig. Luna: Dreißig. Lucas: Vierzig. Luna: Vierzig. Lucas: Fünfzig. Luna: Fünfzig. Lucas: Sechzig. Luna: Sechzig. Lucas: Siebzig. Luna: Siebzig. Lucas: Achtzig. Luna: Achtzig. Lucas: Neunzig. Luna: Neunzig. Lucas: Hundert. Luna: Hundert. Lucas: Now let's do a mixed drill. I say a number in English, you say it in German. 42. Luna: Zweiundvierzig. Lucas: 68. Luna: Achtundsechzig. Lucas: 75. Luna: Fünfundsiebzig. Lucas: 93. Luna: Dreiundneunzig. Lucas: Excellent. You're doing great. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. This is really helpful. Lucas: Remember, practice makes perfect. Try counting objects around you in German. How many chairs? Stühle. How many windows? Fenster. Luna: Good idea. I'll start counting everything. Lucas: That's the spirit. Well, that's our episode for today. Keep practicing with Fexingo and we'll see you next time. Luna: Tschüss! Lucas: Tschüss!
