Transcript
- 0:00Hello and welcome back to the Letterbox podcast, the place
- 0:04where people share the letters they've written in the moments
- 0:06that changed them. If you're joining me for the
- 0:09first time today, welcome. This episode is the second in a
- 0:14special three-part series from one incredible writer, and each
- 0:21letter stands on its own, but together they tell one story,
- 0:25from saying goodbye to the past, to rediscovering yourself, to
- 0:30dreaming about the future. If you haven't yet listened to
- 0:35yesterday's episode, Dear Him, I'd really encourage you to go
- 0:39back and start there. Before we begin, if you're
- 0:44enjoying listening, please follow the podcast wherever you
- 0:47are listening, or share an episode that you've enjoyed with
- 0:50someone else who you think might like it too.
- 0:53Yesterday we heard and say goodbye, not just to her
- 0:57relationship, but the future she believed she was building.
- 1:01Today the story moves on. It's a letter to herself.
- 1:07When Angie sent me the letters, she told me that they had become
- 1:11a way of making sense of the heartbreak, honouring the love
- 1:14she had and slowly finding her way back to herself.
- 1:18I think that's what makes this letter so special because after
- 1:22heartbreak, so many of us asked the same questions.
- 1:26Who am I now? What parts of me did I lose?
- 1:31And how do I begin again? This letter reminds us that
- 1:35healing isn't about becoming who we were before.
- 1:39Sometimes it's about remembering the parts of ourselves we never
- 1:43truly lanced. So now it's time for Angie's
- 1:48second letter. Dear Anne, how did we get here?
- 1:58Really, How did we go from believing our life was ending to
- 2:02standing at the beginning of everything we had only ever
- 2:05dreamed about a little while ago?
- 2:10You were convinced your future had already been written.
- 2:13You thought you'd spend the rest of your life in corporate.
- 2:16You thought you'd marry the man you loved.
- 2:19You imagined a home, children, routines, holidays, and all the
- 2:23little ordinary moments that make up life.
- 2:27Then everything changed. At first it felt unfair.
- 2:34It felt like the rug had been pulled out from underneath you.
- 2:39You questioned yourself, your worth, your judgement, your
- 2:44dreams and even your faith. You wondered how someone you
- 2:49loved so deeply could become someone you no longer
- 2:52recognised. You wondered if life had
- 2:56forgotten about you. But maybe life wasn't taking
- 3:02something away. Maybe it was making room.
- 3:11Look at you now. You're packing suitcases instead
- 3:15of unpacking heartbreak. You've created a travel account
- 3:20because you finally decided your life was worth documenting.
- 3:25You're connecting with people all over the world, planning
- 3:29routes through Europe, researching cafes, restaurants,
- 3:32beaches, trains, and hidden streets that only a year ago you
- 3:35never imagined you'd see. You might be teaching in another
- 3:41country. You might spend the next chapter
- 3:44of your life halfway across the world.
- 3:48Your choosing uncertainty over familiarity, adventure over fear
- 3:56and possibility over comfort. Do you realise how brave that
- 4:04is? Nothing could have prepared you
- 4:07for this moment. You thought your greatest love
- 4:11story would begin with another person.
- 4:14Instead, it began the day you chose yourself.
- 4:20There's something beautifully ironic about that.
- 4:24You are standing still and moving forward at the very same
- 4:28time. You're grieving the life you
- 4:30thought you would have while simultaneously falling in love
- 4:33with the lipe quietly unfolding in front of you.
- 4:37That takes courage. You don't know what's waiting
- 4:42for you in Europe. You don't know whether Korea
- 4:45will become home. You don't know who you'll meet,
- 4:47what conversations you'll have, what streets you'll walk, or
- 4:50what version of yourself you'll discover.
- 4:54And maybe that's the point. For the first time in your life,
- 5:01you don't need all the answers before taking the next step.
- 5:07You're learning to trust yourself instead.
- 5:12Will you meet the love of your life?
- 5:15Maybe. Will you become a mother?
- 5:21Maybe. Will your life plans change
- 5:24again? Almost certainly.
- 5:28Life has taught you that nothing is guaranteed, but it also
- 5:33taught you the endings are rarely endings.
- 5:38More often than not, they are invitations disguised as
- 5:41heartbreak. So go board the plane, get lost,
- 5:48miss trains, meet strangers, laugh until your stomach hurts.
- 5:53Cry when you need to. Fall in love with cities.
- 5:57Fall in love with quiet mornings, fall in love with your
- 6:02own company. And if you ever forget who you
- 6:10are, remember this moment. The moment you realised your
- 6:17future was never taken away from you, it was simply waiting for
- 6:24you to become brave enough to meet it.
- 6:30I am so proud of you. Now go live the life you've
- 6:39spent years whispering to the universe with all my love and
- 6:53and thank you so much again for such a beautifully written and
- 7:00honest letter. I think it's incredibly hard to
- 7:04write to yourself with such honesty, and I'm so glad that
- 7:11you wrote that you're proud of yourself because you really
- 7:14should be. And I, along with everyone
- 7:19listening and learning your story, is proud of you too.
- 7:24I know that going through heartbreak and feeling lost and
- 7:28trying to rediscover yourself is something that so many listeners
- 7:32will be able to resonate with. So you writing with such
- 7:35positivity and excitement for your future is really, really
- 7:40heartwarming and just I know will bring a lot of hope to
- 7:44anybody who right now is in the depths of heartbreak.
- 7:50Tomorrow we will hear the final chapter of Andy's story to the
- 7:55future child she hopes to meet one day.
- 7:59It's another letter that reminds us that even after loss, our
- 8:02heart can still make room for hope.
- 8:05So if you haven't already, make sure you are pressing that
- 8:08follow button wherever you are listening from right now so that
- 8:11you don't miss when Andy's final letter comes out.
- 8:15And if you know somebody who is having a hard time right now or
- 8:18is going through heartbreak, consider sending this letter to
- 8:22them and showing them that their future can be really bright and
- 8:27full of adventure. And of course, if you've got
- 8:31your own letter that you've been waiting to write, I would love
- 8:36to read it. So you send it to
- 8:39theletterboxpodcast@outlook.com and it might just be the next
- 8:45episode of the podcast. Thank you so much for spending
- 8:50this time with me. And I'll see you here tomorrow
- 8:54for the final letter.
