- 0:26Speaker 3: that solves the problem. And with me as always Daniel
- 0:30Speaker 3: Rays Scott uh medium strength beard bowders I think is medium.
- 0:39Speaker 4: Yeah, he thinks it's strong.
- 0:44Speaker 2: And it's it's medium.
- 0:45Speaker 3: It's mid mad well, yeah, other beards are fire. This
- 0:51Speaker 3: is mid no cap no camp. He's a vacation again.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I mean, I mean, how long has he been with us?
- 1:01Speaker 3: How many how many weeks of vacation does he get?
- 1:05Speaker 4: I didn't think.
- 1:07Speaker 3: I thought it was five years before you get three three,
- 1:09Speaker 3: three weeks off?
- 1:11Speaker 1: But maybe typically Yeah, I mean he's he's taking so
- 1:15Speaker 1: many breaks. It's it's kind of crazy.
- 1:18Speaker 4: You know what it is, all those events he goes.
- 1:21Speaker 4: So he's earning cop time. That's what it is.
- 1:23Speaker 1: That what it is. Okay, okay, all right, Misay said, guys,
- 1:30Speaker 1: this is typical government worker.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Oh man, so how you what.
- 1:41Speaker 3: I got got a new phone. Hopefully that solves all
- 1:45Speaker 3: of the problems. Oh, just hopefully last couple of weeks.
- 1:50Speaker 3: It's been it's been bad. It started with the iPad.
- 1:52Speaker 3: I'm like I mean it's the iPad and I switched
- 1:54Speaker 3: to my.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Phone, and.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Well you saw how that worked out last. So after that,
- 2:01Speaker 3: literally the next day, my wife and I went out
- 2:04Speaker 3: and got got new phones. So, yeah, brand new if
- 2:07Speaker 3: the iPhones. You know, we're the kind of people we
- 2:09Speaker 3: don't get a new phone.
- 2:10Speaker 4: Every year, right, It's uh, you know, I've had.
- 2:13Speaker 3: A smartphone for fifteen years at this point, right twenty ten,
- 2:19Speaker 3: I got my first smartphone. I got iPhone four five
- 2:22Speaker 3: years later, I got an iPhone six. Four years after
- 2:26Speaker 3: that I got it, I got a an se and
- 2:31Speaker 3: and this one.
- 2:31Speaker 4: So fifteen years for four phones. We kind of you know, right,
- 2:36Speaker 4: we run them home. You know.
- 2:38Speaker 3: It's it's funny because you go in there and they're like, well,
- 2:40Speaker 3: what do you have now, And I tell.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Them and they go, oh, I'm sorry, we don't have
- 2:45Speaker 4: a trade in for that, Like, oh, I know, I know,
- 2:47Speaker 4: this phone's been paid off for years. I know.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's so funny. Yeah. I got a
- 2:55Speaker 1: new phone at the beginning of the year two and
- 2:58Speaker 1: when I went in, one of the selling once they
- 3:00Speaker 1: gave me is they're like, oh yeah, and with your
- 3:02Speaker 1: service you can upgrade every year. That you're eligible, and
- 3:06Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, anyone could if you're eligible, Like, what
- 3:11Speaker 1: are you talking about? Whatever we want?
- 3:15Speaker 4: They want to keep you making payments.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Oh for sure, for sure? Yeah uh.
- 3:21Speaker 4: You know.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Speaking of new I was telling you before the show,
- 3:25Speaker 1: we got a new toy on on a stream yard here.
- 3:28Speaker 1: They've integrated a soundboard, so we have fun new sound effects,
- 3:34Speaker 1: like you know, if they've an applause, can even do
- 3:43Speaker 1: if we don't like some, So they gave us some
- 3:49Speaker 1: generic ones.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Are you doing them right now? Yeah?
- 3:52Speaker 1: Did you know any of them?
- 3:53Speaker 4: Oh?
- 3:55Speaker 1: Oh no, oh no you describing.
- 4:02Speaker 4: That? That sounds like it would be cool.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I mean they're supposed to be playing. Oh no, well, shoot,
- 4:12Speaker 1: I had some going. Let's see if the chat says
- 4:15Speaker 1: that they are able to hear them?
- 4:17Speaker 4: What's that?
- 4:18Speaker 1: Oh jesuits, he can hear them?
- 4:21Speaker 4: Really?
- 4:22Speaker 1: Yeah? Maybe because you're playing them over here doing right now? Okay,
- 4:30Speaker 1: I'll play one of my new ones that I got
- 4:31Speaker 1: for us.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Daddy's help you feel good?
- 4:38Speaker 1: Nothing, huh, that's so weird.
- 4:41Speaker 4: So later when we bring Chasbis into the show, you
- 4:44Speaker 4: got to do one.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I'll go on.
- 4:47Speaker 4: You can still hear it? Or if you can no
- 4:48Speaker 4: longer hear it when he's in the show.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, that's interesting. Huh. All right, well we'll.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Play if I like this, you're playing sound of facts,
- 5:00Speaker 3: I can't hear them. You know, you can be playing
- 5:04Speaker 3: silly music over me while I'm talking.
- 5:06Speaker 1: And I mean I could, I could they do give
- 5:09Speaker 1: us background music as well. So, yeah, Jazz has heard it.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Daddy's uh. The sound effect was from LeVar Burton on
- 5:17Speaker 1: uh on Mister Rogers where he says Daddy's help you
- 5:21Speaker 1: feel good and he says it's like daddies help you
- 5:28Speaker 1: feel good like it's it's not it's not. No, you
- 5:33Speaker 1: should be saying that on the Kids.
- 5:34Speaker 5: Show, sir.
- 5:36Speaker 1: But yeah, all right, Well, since since you can't hear
- 5:40Speaker 1: the sound effects, that's fine. We'll we'll plow on through
- 5:43Speaker 1: and let's get to Star Trek News.
- 5:45Speaker 4: All right, Star Trek News.
- 5:49Speaker 1: All right, So our first bit of Star Trek News,
- 5:52Speaker 1: we are learning more about the fallout of the Paramounts
- 5:57Speaker 1: merger with sky Dance. They are making some moves, and
- 6:01Speaker 1: one of the big moves they are making is they
- 6:04Speaker 1: have hired a former Apple TV executive, Chris Parnell. Apparently,
- 6:10Speaker 1: this guy Chris Parnell was in charge of original programming
- 6:15Speaker 1: at Apple TV. Also used to work at Sony Pictures
- 6:20Speaker 1: TV Studios. But he is now the EVP of Originals
- 6:25Speaker 1: at Paramount Plus. So what does that mean. It means
- 6:29Speaker 1: he is in charge of all new content coming forward,
- 6:33Speaker 1: so not just Star Trek, but anything new will be
- 6:36Speaker 1: under him. Some other podcasts have been saying there's a
- 6:41Speaker 1: Star Trek podcast and forget the name of it that
- 6:43Speaker 1: know this guy personally and say that he is a
- 6:46Speaker 1: giant Star Trek fan. One thing about Chris Parnell is
- 6:49Speaker 1: he did work very closely with former Star Trek producer
- 6:56Speaker 1: Ronald D. Moore on a show for Apple TV called
- 7:01Speaker 1: for All Mankind. So could more be returning? I don't know.
- 7:06Speaker 1: I guess we'll see.
- 7:07Speaker 6: You know, that's that's the worse things that could happen,
- 7:11Speaker 6: right right.
- 7:13Speaker 1: So, but at the very least, you know, they've been
- 7:16Speaker 1: saying that Star Trek is a priority. They've got this
- 7:19Speaker 1: guy in there. You know, I'm of two minds of this.
- 7:26Speaker 1: One is that's great that they're they're focusing on original
- 7:30Speaker 1: content for Paramount Plus. Hopefully that means, you know, better
- 7:33Speaker 1: Star Trek shows. You know, or a better emphasis on them.
- 7:37Speaker 1: But the other thing that makes me more concerned is
- 7:41Speaker 1: this is a very similar move to what Disney did
- 7:45Speaker 1: when they started just creating a ton of Marvel shows
- 7:48Speaker 1: and Star Wars shows, and it really lowered the quality. Yeah,
- 7:55Speaker 1: because it was another person in the room to give
- 7:58Speaker 1: their ideas, to demand their their input on it, and
- 8:02Speaker 1: and to demand more content, whether or not it was warranted.
- 8:05Speaker 1: So it could really go either way. Oh, Desiree says, Hello, Hello, Hi,
- 8:15Speaker 1: So yeah, what do you think of this move?
- 8:19Speaker 4: Yeah? What do I think of this move? I don't know.
- 8:29Speaker 4: I just don't know anymore, Right, you know things that
- 8:33Speaker 4: I thought were We're going well, Laurens. Yeah, I just
- 8:41Speaker 4: I don't know anymore. I don't know anymore.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Surface he hearing the Star Trek's priority and and uh
- 8:51Speaker 3: and we got a new guy in charge and he
- 8:54Speaker 3: loves it.
- 8:56Speaker 4: I feel like I should be excited about that, but
- 9:00Speaker 4: I don't know. There's been so many letdowns.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Hey, Scott, Yeah, I hope for good things, but I
- 9:13Speaker 3: am mentally prepared for words. Yeah, you know the there
- 9:18Speaker 3: was a post in our Facebook group and it was
- 9:21Speaker 3: a it was a picture of the female gem Edar
- 9:24Speaker 3: from the upcoming uh.
- 9:25Speaker 6: Oh yeah, Academy Academy show, and the comment section just
- 9:34Speaker 6: turned into an absolute blood bath of people on both sides,
- 9:41Speaker 6: on both sides.
- 9:42Speaker 3: And you know, someone asked me, why do you still
- 9:47Speaker 3: do this show? You hate stark check. It's basically what
- 9:50Speaker 3: they said to me.
- 9:56Speaker 4: My answer was something along the lines of, when they
- 10:02Speaker 4: get it right, it's it's it's glorious and stick around
- 10:06Speaker 4: for that.
- 10:07Speaker 7: And I keep hoping for that, But the truth is,
- 10:12Speaker 7: I don't know how long I can do that. Yeo, yeah.
- 10:20Speaker 3: A news story like this about this guy coming in
- 10:23Speaker 3: and he's gonna be in charge of all this, but
- 10:26Speaker 3: you know, he's a fan and he knows this guy
- 10:28Speaker 3: who was who was great when he did the show.
- 10:31Speaker 3: I feel like I should be excited for that, but
- 10:34Speaker 3: I guess I'm just so. I'm so cautious now, having
- 10:38Speaker 3: been let down so many times, and you know, I
- 10:41Speaker 3: do a lot of self reflection because I start to
- 10:44Speaker 3: think to myself, oh my god, I'm pining for Burman
- 10:49Speaker 3: era star Trek. I'm I'm the crotchety old bastard who
- 10:56Speaker 3: hates TNG, who teos is the only.
- 10:59Speaker 4: True star Trek. I've come full circle right, and I'm
- 11:03Speaker 4: that guy now, Yeah, and I don't know how I
- 11:06Speaker 4: feel about it. Yeah, I don't know.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Well, I mean we'll see. It's all early days with
- 11:16Speaker 1: this whole merger, so we'll see what happens. But yeah,
- 11:21Speaker 1: so that's what they're doing there. But speaking of disappointment, unfortunately,
- 11:28Speaker 1: Michelle Yo no, no, Michelle Yo is out there promoting
- 11:35Speaker 1: her next film, some animated movie. I forget the name
- 11:39Speaker 1: of it. But anyways, she's out there promoting that film,
- 11:42Speaker 1: and so she's talking a little bit about Section thirty
- 11:45Speaker 1: one and how it was, Yeah, how it was a
- 11:49Speaker 1: flop and how she says, you know, she always tries
- 11:54Speaker 1: to do better and it's rough and basically, you know,
- 11:59Speaker 1: she knew going in this was not the Star Trek
- 12:02Speaker 1: people wanted, but that they were hoping to do something
- 12:06Speaker 1: different and that hopefully people would like it, and uh,
- 12:10Speaker 1: you know, unfortunately people did not like it. Oh, Chasmith says,
- 12:15Speaker 1: you're not the only one, Dan, So yeah, yeah, so
- 12:21Speaker 1: you know, basically, just they tried and it didn't work out,
- 12:26Speaker 1: and you know, all you can do is try. I mean,
- 12:32Speaker 1: she wasn't the problem. She's a really good actress.
- 12:38Speaker 4: You know, it's just.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Yeah, it was a giant swing and a miss. There
- 12:45Speaker 1: was so many things going against this movie, the fact
- 12:48Speaker 1: that it was a TV series, and then they scrapped
- 12:50Speaker 1: some you know, they they couldn't do that, so they
- 12:53Speaker 1: scraped some episodes and put it together and cobbled together
- 12:56Speaker 1: a movie as opposed to starting as a movie to
- 12:58Speaker 1: begin with. You know that didn't we're talking about it.
- 13:02Speaker 4: We're talking about it for eight years, right if it takes.
- 13:06Speaker 1: That long, yeah, reason, yeah, yeah.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Right, So.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Best to just move on past that. So yep, And
- 13:19Speaker 1: then our last news story comes to us from see
- 13:24Speaker 1: what is the name of this website? Red Shirts Always Die?
- 13:30Speaker 1: And uh star Trek Starfleet Academy writer gives exciting update
- 13:36Speaker 1: on season two. That update is that they're currently writing
- 13:39Speaker 1: season two. Season one has not even come out yet
- 13:42Speaker 1: and they are writing it. So there you go. That
- 13:48Speaker 1: can go win in two ways. You know that that's
- 13:53Speaker 1: either you know, hopefully the fans like the first season
- 13:56Speaker 1: and where they're gonna get more in season two, or
- 14:00Speaker 1: or they're gonna hurry up and get a bunch of
- 14:02Speaker 1: episodes out and yeah that'll be the end of it.
- 14:07Speaker 4: I don't care if you like this.
- 14:10Speaker 8: Yeah, well, it's it's it's the idea of we need
- 14:16Speaker 8: to constantly feed the beast and so these these shows
- 14:19Speaker 8: need to come out every year or something like that.
- 14:22Speaker 1: So that's that's why you write it like that without
- 14:26Speaker 1: getting feedback. You know. They did the same thing with
- 14:28Speaker 1: the Snyder verse, right, They started writing Justice League even
- 14:32Speaker 1: before Batman versus Superman came out, so they had no
- 14:35Speaker 1: idea how the audience was going to take that. And yeah,
- 14:40Speaker 1: so I'm glad.
- 14:41Speaker 4: I'm glad that's over.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Me too, me too. Those were dark, dark times, literally
- 14:49Speaker 1: so bad.
- 14:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Yeah, So did.
- 14:53Speaker 4: You did you watch peace Maker?
- 14:56Speaker 1: I did it. Would you think.
- 15:02Speaker 3: It's interesting how they're uh the story involves a multiverse. Yeah,
- 15:10Speaker 3: but that's not what they used to establish that. Uh
- 15:17Speaker 3: you know this now takes place in this new universe
- 15:20Speaker 3: that the not the old one.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Right right, they just completely retconned it. Just whatever. Yeah,
- 15:27Speaker 1: so it was.
- 15:28Speaker 4: It was good.
- 15:31Speaker 3: It came out the same day as the most recent
- 15:35Speaker 3: episode of Strange New Worlds, and it occupies a lot
- 15:41Speaker 3: more of my thoughts.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Yeah, than that episode of Worlds.
- 15:45Speaker 1: So that you know, for me, it's been dexter dexter
- 15:52Speaker 1: resurrections that show is so good right now.
- 15:56Speaker 3: I've never watched any of those, actually, I think I
- 15:59Speaker 3: watched one or two, so Digital Dexter it's one of
- 16:02Speaker 3: those things.
- 16:03Speaker 4: It's always there, like I should go back to that
- 16:05Speaker 4: at some point.
- 16:07Speaker 1: I would love with your career background. I would love
- 16:12Speaker 1: your input on that show, just how honor off they
- 16:16Speaker 1: are with things.
- 16:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:18Speaker 1: So yeah, all right, Well that's all the news stories,
- 16:25Speaker 1: so we should probably get to the main topic and
- 16:31Speaker 1: review this episode.
- 16:32Speaker 5: Where is my Okay, there is fun?
- 16:35Speaker 9: Will now comment, I've just got a wall on board videos.
- 16:49Speaker 4: You're cutting out?
- 16:51Speaker 1: Okay with the video.
- 16:52Speaker 9: I have a wall of videos a lot.
- 17:01Speaker 4: Are you scrolling through stuff because you're cutting it out?
- 17:05Speaker 1: Nope, I'm not scrolling through anything.
- 17:07Speaker 4: All right, now you sound better.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Okay, let's see. Oh, let's see. Uh. Captain Kevi says,
- 17:17Speaker 1: got into Butterfly on Prime. It's a Korean based show
- 17:21Speaker 1: that's pretty decent.
- 17:22Speaker 4: All right.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I saw that pop up on my on my Prime
- 17:26Speaker 1: so all right, well yeah, so let's see. This is
- 17:32Speaker 1: season three, episode eight, four and a half Vulcans. Basically,
- 17:39Speaker 1: they find a wacky reason to turn for the crew
- 17:44Speaker 1: members into Vulcans. Pike Chapel, Luhura, and Lyon are transformed
- 17:50Speaker 1: into Vulcans for a mission, which they decide to after
- 17:54Speaker 1: which they decide to remain vulcan. Pike becomes obsessed with
- 17:58Speaker 1: efficiency and neatness. Hura manipulates Bento Betto into accepting a
- 18:05Speaker 1: mind mold to improve their capability for a potential relationship.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Chapel ends all of her friendships and her relationship with
- 18:13Speaker 1: Corby to focus on work, and Leon develops romulin tendencies,
- 18:17Speaker 1: becoming a sinister warmonger. At a meeting regarding Betel's request
- 18:23Speaker 1: to return from medical leave to her job with the
- 18:27Speaker 1: Starfleet Judicial Department, Pike tells Vice Admiral Pasalk that her
- 18:33Speaker 1: return would be illogical, and Betel loses her temper at
- 18:36Speaker 1: Both Scotty and James Kirk are on leave, and James Kirk,
- 18:42Speaker 1: who's on leave from the Farragut, become friends while working
- 18:45Speaker 1: together to stop Lawn. With the help of Number one's
- 18:49Speaker 1: vulcan ex boyfriend, Doug, Spot connects with the four crew
- 18:54Speaker 1: members contras and persuades them to change back after making
- 18:59Speaker 1: a ends for their actions. To Betell surprise, Pasolid offers
- 19:04Speaker 1: to promote her to head of the Judicial Department following
- 19:08Speaker 1: her following his impending retirement, which in which he was
- 19:12Speaker 1: impressed by her outburst. I mean that pretty much wraps
- 19:16Speaker 1: it up, So.
- 19:19Speaker 4: Nothing else to be said.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that that was the episode. Uh what'd you.
- 19:25Speaker 4: Think of it? Yeah?
- 19:30Speaker 10: Okay, So there's just so many there's so many things
- 19:38Speaker 10: wrong with this.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Well, first off, so this this uh and I know
- 19:49Speaker 3: he's been on the show before. Hotel's boss, the uh,
- 19:54Speaker 3: the head jag or whatever he is. Okay, yeah, he's
- 20:00Speaker 3: a vulcan. I thought Spock was supposed to be the
- 20:02Speaker 3: first vulcan in Starfleet? How is this guy there? And
- 20:07Speaker 3: he's an admiral Spox a lieutenant.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Right, I don't, I don't. Was he supposed to be
- 20:18Speaker 1: the first?
- 20:19Speaker 4: I always thought he was. Yeah, I always thought he was.
- 20:23Speaker 4: But that has nothing to do with the story. It's
- 20:25Speaker 4: just something that occurs to me. Okay.
- 20:28Speaker 3: So the whole thing, the whole premise of the show,
- 20:38Speaker 3: of the episode is flawed in so many ways. They
- 20:42Speaker 3: don't want to they have to appear to be vulcans.
- 20:45Speaker 3: They don't break the prime directive, but the prime directive
- 20:48Speaker 3: is already broken.
- 20:51Speaker 4: You can't break it again. Right, These people.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Understand that there's extra terrestrial life out there. They understand
- 21:00Speaker 3: excuse me, that that life has superior technology. They have
- 21:06Speaker 3: shared some of that superior technology with them. The idea
- 21:11Speaker 3: that we have to keep it from them that there's
- 21:15Speaker 3: other aliens other than Vulcans.
- 21:17Speaker 4: Why, why that makes that makes no sense?
- 21:23Speaker 3: Yeah, that was their reason for having to turn the
- 21:27Speaker 3: crew into Vulcans. Okay, I'll give them that. They got
- 21:33Speaker 3: a hypospray to change their DNA to make them vulcan.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Mh.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Did that hypospray have the complete sum of Vulcan culture
- 21:48Speaker 3: in it as well or just Vulcan biology?
- 21:52Speaker 4: How did they suddenly become.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Logical and have Vulcan style haircuts? And yes, yes, yes,
- 22:07Speaker 3: that's the other thing.
- 22:08Speaker 4: It became Belldar or Belsar whatever his name was.
- 22:12Speaker 3: I was waiting to start eating the insulation or whatever.
- 22:20Speaker 4: You know.
- 22:20Speaker 3: The most realistic transformation was lon Von didn't turn into vulcan.
- 22:25Speaker 3: She turned into a romulin. We know that they're biologically
- 22:29Speaker 3: the same. Well, a romulin is just a vulcan without
- 22:34Speaker 3: the mental discipline that they have gained through their culture
- 22:40Speaker 3: and through training and meditation.
- 22:43Speaker 4: None of which these people went through.
- 22:45Speaker 3: So realistically, they should all be vulcan, or they should
- 22:48Speaker 3: all be romulan.
- 22:49Speaker 4: They shouldn't be they shouldn't be vulcan.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Once they stated that they didn't want to go back, Okay,
- 23:00Speaker 3: Pike should have been removed from command, right, that's that's
- 23:06Speaker 3: a simple that's a simple thing. The doctor says, you know,
- 23:10Speaker 3: you're not fit to command. You're not in your right mind.
- 23:13Speaker 3: The Captain Pike that we know wouldn't do these things.
- 23:17Speaker 3: I'm taking you to Starfleet Medical until you figure this out.
- 23:19Speaker 4: It just there was just so many flaws. It just
- 23:28Speaker 4: there were so many.
- 23:28Speaker 3: Flaws, so many missteps, just to put them in a
- 23:33Speaker 3: situation where we can have them do funny.
- 23:35Speaker 4: Racist things. Right.
- 23:39Speaker 7: Ah, I laughed.
- 23:44Speaker 3: I laughed at some of the things. But that doesn't
- 23:47Speaker 3: mean it's good. Yeah, it doesn't mean it betters the franchise.
- 23:53Speaker 3: And even you know, Ohono fallen head over.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Heels, That's what I was gonna get to.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Uh, Patton Oswald, why right?
- 24:04Speaker 1: Just something about him? Man just can't help herself.
- 24:07Speaker 4: But here's the thing they have.
- 24:10Speaker 3: You know, there's so many things, so many little things
- 24:14Speaker 3: that they can do that would make some things make sense,
- 24:20Speaker 3: you know, just just to throw away line about she
- 24:23Speaker 3: shared a mind melt with him twenty five years ago.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Because of that, she can't get him out of her head,
- 24:30Speaker 3: that would at least be believable. Yeah, you know, she's
- 24:34Speaker 3: a smoke show. He's a troll.
- 24:37Speaker 1: What the numbers don't add up is what you're saying.
- 24:41Speaker 1: It doesn't end up. Yeah, it doesn't end Yeah, yeah,
- 24:45Speaker 1: it doesn't end up. The whole time I was watching this,
- 24:49Speaker 1: I kept thinking, this is an snl Skit turned into
- 24:52Speaker 1: an episode. Yeah, and it was a decent first draft,
- 24:57Speaker 1: but they needed to go through and fine tune some
- 24:59Speaker 1: stuff if they wanted to make it good. I have
- 25:03Speaker 1: a suspicion that a lot of these episodes, because we've
- 25:06Speaker 1: said that a couple of times this season already, I
- 25:09Speaker 1: have a feeling they were rushed and they didn't have
- 25:12Speaker 1: the time to really hammer these things out, so we
- 25:15Speaker 1: got what we got. I also think, though, there has
- 25:20Speaker 1: been a very mixed reaction to this season so far,
- 25:25Speaker 1: if you look at comments, not just in our group,
- 25:29Speaker 1: but I was looking at previews for upcoming episodes and
- 25:34Speaker 1: all that on YouTube the comment sections, and people were
- 25:37Speaker 1: continually saying, hey, we want more strange new worlds. In
- 25:41Speaker 1: strange new worlds like that was a common complaint. A
- 25:45Speaker 1: lot of other people were saying, like, this show started
- 25:48Speaker 1: out great, now it's just goofy. Others were saying it
- 25:52Speaker 1: feels like fan fiction, which I kind of agree with
- 25:55Speaker 1: that it does feel like fan fiction the show. But yeah,
- 26:04Speaker 1: like this, this was a fun premise, But I don't
- 26:08Speaker 1: know that it should have been a whole episode. No,
- 26:12Speaker 1: not to this focus.
- 26:14Speaker 4: It should have been a B story.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, the.
- 26:18Speaker 4: Other thing, I think of something else better?
- 26:22Speaker 5: Yeah, where And you know what's.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Funny, the BT story actually like the B story. I
- 26:30Speaker 3: don't I don't know if it was the B story,
- 26:31Speaker 3: if it was just I don't know. The Jim Kirk
- 26:35Speaker 3: being on the ship and none of the people that
- 26:39Speaker 3: he's super familiar with are around, so he hangs out
- 26:42Speaker 3: with Scotty for the night. I kind of liked that
- 26:47Speaker 3: because I always get the feeling watching TOS that the
- 26:50Speaker 3: two of them had a history.
- 26:53Speaker 4: Scotty.
- 26:54Speaker 3: When you watch that show, Scotty feels a little older,
- 26:57Speaker 3: he feels.
- 26:58Speaker 4: Like he's been around the block, and yeah, it.
- 27:01Speaker 3: Feels like he and Kirk have some sort of past together.
- 27:05Speaker 3: So seeing a little bit of that, I enjoyed that.
- 27:09Speaker 3: I enjoyed seeing it because you know, you watched the
- 27:14Speaker 3: old shows from time to time. He calls him Jim also, right,
- 27:18Speaker 3: rather than captain. So that's probably where I got the
- 27:22Speaker 3: feeling that they had they had some sort.
- 27:25Speaker 4: Of history together. So I enjoyed that. The rest of
- 27:30Speaker 4: it not so much.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Right as we're talking about it, I'm starting to realize
- 27:39Speaker 1: this was a Lower Decks episode. It had this been
- 27:44Speaker 1: the main No, but really, right, had this been a
- 27:47Speaker 1: Lower Decks episode, it would have been fantastic.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Yeah, right, yep, yeah, because it's.
- 27:54Speaker 1: It's the same the same setup. Hey, we got to
- 27:56Speaker 1: go down to a planet. You need to take this
- 27:58Speaker 1: magic drug to turn us all vulcans, and we'll go
- 28:01Speaker 1: down and then we come back and now we're goofy.
- 28:03Speaker 1: It's a lower Deck episode.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I'm now I'm picturing boiler and look howffishent
- 28:09Speaker 3: I am? I'm a vulcan Now I could do this.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Right, right, tend And yeah, yeah, it is a Lower
- 28:15Speaker 1: Decks episode. That that is. That is the thing about it.
- 28:19Speaker 3: How crazy? How crazy would it be to find out
- 28:24Speaker 3: that it was originally written as a Lower Decks episode.
- 28:27Speaker 1: I would not be surprised when that show ended.
- 28:31Speaker 4: Yeah, like it was a pitch, what scripts do we have.
- 28:35Speaker 3: That we can repurpose the other shows or whatever?
- 28:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's fun. I would not be surprised now
- 28:46Speaker 1: that we've said that, Like you can you can totally
- 28:48Speaker 1: picture it. So yeah, yeah. But I think the other
- 28:55Speaker 1: problem too, and this was brought up a lot in
- 28:57Speaker 1: different Facebook air or chat message boards, that it's not
- 29:06Speaker 1: that people don't like the funny episodes, it's that there's
- 29:09Speaker 1: too many of them percentage wise. Yes, right, Like what
- 29:15Speaker 1: almost half the season has been goofy episodes where it
- 29:19Speaker 1: used to be you'd have one or two maybe three
- 29:22Speaker 1: at the most in a twenty three episode season. Yeah,
- 29:27Speaker 1: so that I kind of agree with that, right. To me,
- 29:33Speaker 1: it really feels like theater kids are running the Star
- 29:36Speaker 1: Trek department. Yeah.
- 29:42Speaker 3: I did like the post credit scene. That was pretty funny.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah yeah. So we've got
- 29:52Speaker 1: two more episodes, let's see, that's it. Yeah, yeah, we
- 29:59Speaker 1: got and then New Life and New Civilizations, So September
- 30:04Speaker 1: fourth and September eleventh, and then we're done.
- 30:08Speaker 4: So all right, fingers crossed.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Fingers cross Man. I mean they did warn't as from
- 30:15Speaker 1: the beginning that they're gonna take a lot of big swings.
- 30:18Speaker 1: They they definitely did, so, I don't know. M Yeah,
- 30:29Speaker 1: So we did put a thing up in the Facebook
- 30:32Speaker 1: group if people liked it or didn't like it. Pretty
- 30:36Speaker 1: much a mixed bag. Some people loved it, others awesome, hilarious,
- 30:40Speaker 1: other words, I can't understand this episode. Yeah, just it's
- 30:48Speaker 1: all over the map. Some people loved it. It's not logical,
- 30:51Speaker 1: it's just dumb. And then right under that is someone
- 30:55Speaker 1: else I loved it.
- 30:57Speaker 3: Yeah, and a lot of myth, a lot of missed opportunities.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Yeah too.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Well, Vulcans are are logical and reserved and they keep
- 31:09Speaker 3: their emotions in check. Romulans are super passionate. And Lon
- 31:18Speaker 3: comes face to face with Jim Kirk again. Who we
- 31:22Speaker 3: know she she loves him, She loves him?
- 31:27Speaker 4: Yeah and nothing.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Nothing Yeah, well, I mean she's I know, but yeah.
- 31:39Speaker 3: Another missed another missed opportunity to to you know, love triangle.
- 31:45Speaker 4: Yeah, involving Kirk and Spock.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Yeah, two classic character when you say star Trek to people,
- 31:54Speaker 3: you say Star Trek to someone on the street who
- 31:58Speaker 3: has never seen an episode in their entire life. They
- 32:02Speaker 3: know Captain Kirk and half of them say doctor Spock,
- 32:06Speaker 3: but mister Stock. You know, that's how that's how entrenched
- 32:11Speaker 3: they are, that's how much a part of pop culture
- 32:14Speaker 3: they are, these two guys, and to have love triangle
- 32:18Speaker 3: with the two of them and have and have the
- 32:20Speaker 3: perfect opportunity for it to make sense and Nope, we'll.
- 32:26Speaker 4: Do this instead.
- 32:28Speaker 1: So we know that we were getting five seasons, right,
- 32:31Speaker 1: so we got season four and season five coming up.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Do you think that they will either kill or somehow
- 32:38Speaker 1: remove in Benga to bring in Bones in either of
- 32:42Speaker 1: those seasons?
- 32:45Speaker 11: Uh?
- 32:48Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Yeah, So who's left check off Sulu and Bones, right,
- 32:56Speaker 3: pretty much else one else has been on the show?
- 32:59Speaker 12: Yeah, and Yeoman Rand if they wanted to do that, Yeah,
- 33:11Speaker 12: I don't know.
- 33:12Speaker 4: They might. They might save some of these for the
- 33:16Speaker 4: you know, the end, yeah transition, right, you know they may, Uh,
- 33:24Speaker 4: they may kill off in Benga. Yeah.
- 33:28Speaker 3: I think that's that's more likely, being that he's a
- 33:33Speaker 3: doctor and a super soldier assassin.
- 33:37Speaker 1: Right, it's got to end right with with Pike being
- 33:44Speaker 1: injured and now Kirk's got to take over. Yeah, that's
- 33:48Speaker 1: gotta be the last episode, or at least the last storyline,
- 33:54Speaker 1: like it ends with him being dropped off with that planet.
- 33:58Speaker 4: Yeah, so I don't know, Yeah, I don't know. The
- 34:05Speaker 4: timeline is all walking now, who knows? Who knows? We
- 34:11Speaker 4: could we.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Could see him because in the JJ verse, none of
- 34:16Speaker 3: that happened. He has ever been coming in app and
- 34:20Speaker 3: then and then conk. So I know that's a completely
- 34:25Speaker 3: different timeline. But this is a completely different timeline. We
- 34:29Speaker 3: know of this temporal cold war going on right now.
- 34:32Speaker 4: So nothing really is set in stone anyway.
- 34:39Speaker 1: That's true too, It's it's whatever they wanted to be.
- 34:43Speaker 4: What's the phrase unshackled.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Un Yes, they're unshackled from cannon. So all right, well
- 34:55Speaker 1: I think we should get into listener feedback then sure,
- 34:59Speaker 1: see like we're yeah, so all right, let's get into
- 35:04Speaker 1: listener feedback. Listener feedback. All right, So, if you guys
- 35:14Speaker 1: want to give us a call, you can always give
- 35:16Speaker 1: us a call at five seven zero sixty six one
- 35:20Speaker 1: zero zero zero one and leave us a voicemail. As
- 35:25Speaker 1: we like to say, nobody is standing by to take
- 35:27Speaker 1: your call at five seven zero six six one zero
- 35:31Speaker 1: zero zero one. But we will definitely take your voicemail.
- 35:34Speaker 1: We do have a voicemail. If you're in the chat
- 35:37Speaker 1: and you'd like to join us, please x up in
- 35:39Speaker 1: the chat. But in the meantime we do have a voicemail,
- 35:43Speaker 1: so let me play that now.
- 35:46Speaker 11: Here in sunny Shore and by Sea, south of England,
- 35:50Speaker 11: and just wanted to give my quick thoughts on strange
- 35:53Speaker 11: New worlds. I can't even remember the title of four
- 35:56Speaker 11: and a half falcons.
- 35:58Speaker 4: Okay, where do I start?
- 36:00Speaker 11: Keep this below two minutes for your little cartoon characterization.
- 36:07Speaker 11: I did enjoy the sloth last week. By the way, anyway,
- 36:09Speaker 11: identifying as a vulcan, are.
- 36:11Speaker 4: Just going to read my notes? Okay, this is funny because.
- 36:14Speaker 11: This will make no sense. Identifying as a vulcan doesn't
- 36:18Speaker 11: make you vulcan.
- 36:19Speaker 2: Okay.
- 36:20Speaker 11: For example, did it change the color of their blood? No,
- 36:23Speaker 11: it really annoyed me when they were saying, oh, as
- 36:26Speaker 11: a valcan, as a vulcan for the last five minutes.
- 36:30Speaker 4: Were they actually stronger?
- 36:31Speaker 11: I think they were. One of them might have been,
- 36:33Speaker 11: but that's going to put a lot of pressure on
- 36:34Speaker 11: bones and muscles that haven't been able to acclimatize to
- 36:40Speaker 11: be in a Vulcan. There's no way Pike good Point
- 36:44Speaker 11: allowed to remain in command, like I can't see that happening.
- 36:47Speaker 11: He was behaving like an ass.
- 36:50Speaker 4: I also saw a.
- 36:51Speaker 11: Line in there that said there's nothing physically or mentally
- 36:53Speaker 11: wrong with them. One of the characters said that, which
- 36:56Speaker 11: of course is not true. They're physically wrong and you wrong.
- 37:02Speaker 11: Who said you gonna do a mind meld or she
- 37:04Speaker 11: had done a mind mold? Does that naturally occur for Vulcans?
- 37:08Speaker 11: Or do you have to train for years to do
- 37:11Speaker 11: mind melds?
- 37:12Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 37:13Speaker 11: Uh oh, And just like that they changed back again
- 37:17Speaker 11: off screen and the dancing when when Laren was fighting
- 37:24Speaker 11: Spark and they did that stupid dance. Anyway, we're nearly
- 37:32Speaker 11: two minutes.
- 37:34Speaker 4: I love the show.
- 37:35Speaker 11: That's two minutes now love you by.
- 37:40Speaker 1: So there you go. So yeah it really uh he
- 37:45Speaker 1: had problems with it as well.
- 37:47Speaker 4: Is that the Is that the same guy who used
- 37:49Speaker 4: to cause yeah years ago? Okay, yeah, what's his name?
- 37:55Speaker 1: Kim?
- 37:57Speaker 4: Kim? It's been a while, you hear from it.
- 38:01Speaker 1: He's the talking sloth now yeah?
- 38:04Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, So he brought up a lot of the
- 38:07Speaker 3: same points they get vulcanized like a tire, and suddenly
- 38:13Speaker 3: they have all of these skills that other vulcans trained
- 38:16Speaker 3: for years to acquire.
- 38:19Speaker 4: Man, I wish it would easy.
- 38:21Speaker 3: I wish I could go to go to go to
- 38:23Speaker 3: karate and get the get the karate hypospray, get the
- 38:26Speaker 3: Japanese hypo spray, and then suddenly you know, I'm a
- 38:31Speaker 3: I'm a black belt, but like.
- 38:33Speaker 1: The matrix, I know kung fu. Now yeah, yeah, all right,
- 38:39Speaker 1: we got jazz Biz waiting, so let me bring him
- 38:42Speaker 1: in there. He is jazz Biz.
- 38:45Speaker 4: Are are you okay?
- 38:46Speaker 1: You look like you're you're being a whole hostage in
- 38:48Speaker 1: a blank room.
- 38:51Speaker 2: It's my new house, and I'll have pictures.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Okay, okay, hey, play play one of the effects now
- 38:58Speaker 3: that he's in the show.
- 38:59Speaker 1: And oh yeah, yeah, I mean you heard him earlier.
- 39:03Speaker 1: But let's see if he hears them. Now, let's hear
- 39:05Speaker 1: Let's try this one that acastics do. Chick fan, you
- 39:10Speaker 1: must be a devil with the ladies.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, it's Apple or are you an Apple device?
- 39:24Speaker 13: Dan?
- 39:25Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 39:26Speaker 2: So maybe it's blocking it or something. Yeah, that's weird
- 39:31Speaker 2: because I can hear it perfectly through mine.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it's something maybe it only does like one channel
- 39:39Speaker 1: of audio.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe it's something with the stream yard.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Yeah, but yeah, this is like I.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Can't use my EarPods when I talk to you guys
- 39:47Speaker 2: on here.
- 39:47Speaker 5: For some reason.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Right, you can see Dan's working away and his reverse.
- 39:56Speaker 2: Dan, your phone actually works, I know. I and you
- 40:01Speaker 2: haven't cut out at all their episode We're Here, Awesome.
- 40:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it was.
- 40:08Speaker 2: Your old phone that was cutting out the whole time.
- 40:10Speaker 1: Yep. So would you think of the episode? Did you
- 40:13Speaker 1: like it or not?
- 40:14Speaker 2: I thought I agree with you. It's a lower decks episode.
- 40:17Speaker 2: This should not have been you know, it should have
- 40:20Speaker 2: been a B storyline. And when Tim said you changed
- 40:25Speaker 2: into a vulcan, but you wouldn't have the emotions. It's
- 40:28Speaker 2: kind of like when A on Deep Space nine when
- 40:31Speaker 2: they changed into clingons, they weren't fighting each other or
- 40:35Speaker 2: anything else like that, because on Cisco and O'Brien, right it,
- 40:44Speaker 2: I don't know, because they had to pretend to be clingons,
- 40:47Speaker 2: but they weren't cleanons.
- 40:49Speaker 1: So right, well, and then that one they weren't changed
- 40:53Speaker 1: to klingon at the DNA level they were. It was
- 40:55Speaker 1: classic surgery. So it's a little bit different, but same
- 41:01Speaker 1: basic concept for an episode. Too different excuse to put
- 41:05Speaker 1: them in different makeup and outfits and Trader.
- 41:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I know it should be strange new outfits, not
- 41:11Speaker 2: strange new worlds.
- 41:13Speaker 5: Yeah, strange.
- 41:14Speaker 4: Why did Pike have that what is it? I think
- 41:20Speaker 4: it's called the vulcan. It's like a pugil stick with
- 41:24Speaker 4: an axe one.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Yes, oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:27Speaker 2: It's just like carrying it around.
- 41:29Speaker 4: Because I thought you.
- 41:32Speaker 3: Had that vanilla going to I gotta I gotta go, uh,
- 41:37Speaker 3: I gotta go repair the air conditioner.
- 41:38Speaker 4: Hit me that Samurai sword.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Yeah, and they're going the mission and it takes one second.
- 41:46Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, ially like that.
- 41:49Speaker 2: I thought it was kind of funny because they're so
- 41:51Speaker 2: efficient it is over.
- 41:52Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought that was kind of funny.
- 41:55Speaker 2: But yeah, after that, it started just going downhill from there. Yeah,
- 42:01Speaker 2: and where's our strange new worlds?
- 42:04Speaker 4: Like?
- 42:04Speaker 2: How many Aliens have we visited this year? Last week
- 42:09Speaker 2: we visited Alien but it was done documentary style and
- 42:13Speaker 2: you didn't really find out about it much.
- 42:15Speaker 1: What about the Gorn threat? They were teasing that something
- 42:19Speaker 1: was up with Ortegis. That was like four or five
- 42:23Speaker 1: episodes ago.
- 42:24Speaker 2: You have two more episodes to yeah, the whole season.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, you got captain girlfriend who's got half
- 42:33Speaker 1: corn in her.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Two babies or something. She's gonna turned into your trimlin
- 42:36Speaker 2: or something sheets after midnight?
- 42:38Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, what's going on with what?
- 42:44Speaker 2: She's captain girlfriend? She's just everywhere? And then how do
- 42:48Speaker 2: you yell at you're superior and then get hired after that?
- 42:51Speaker 1: He's gonna be attorney at Gorn.
- 42:58Speaker 5: That's gonna be great and go.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll take a bite out for you. Oh Captain
- 43:11Speaker 1: keV says they also stayed in that robe coming back
- 43:14Speaker 1: from the ship, as if that's what makes them vulcan. Yeah, yeah,
- 43:19Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe the robes are comfortable.
- 43:20Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 43:21Speaker 2: You know, that final dance scene was just that took
- 43:26Speaker 2: me out of it. I was like, what is going
- 43:28Speaker 2: on here?
- 43:29Speaker 1: I I kind of felt too that, like because they
- 43:32Speaker 1: were using Pelly as a as comic relief because she
- 43:37Speaker 1: you know, LSD didn't work on her and now this
- 43:39Speaker 1: drug didn't work on her, and so she's really bummed out,
- 43:43Speaker 1: and so that just made me think, like, you're already
- 43:46Speaker 1: doing a comedy episode. You don't need to crack more jokes. Yes,
- 43:51Speaker 1: you know, so it's.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Like it's almost turned into Airplane.
- 43:55Speaker 1: So well, no, it was like a parody. Yeah, like yeah,
- 43:58Speaker 1: you're right, like airplane.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like a parody of itself. That was the
- 44:02Speaker 2: one thing I put it is like Star Trek's becoming
- 44:04Speaker 2: a parody of itself.
- 44:06Speaker 5: Yeah, because it's not I don't know, it's.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Not Star Trek this year. And does it deserve a
- 44:12Speaker 2: fourth season? I'd say no. Yeah, they're rating go on IMDb.
- 44:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, the hands are not that happy.
- 44:25Speaker 2: No, yeah, And I definitely don't think I will get
- 44:27Speaker 2: a fifth And if that don't improve next season, this
- 44:31Speaker 2: this shows over.
- 44:32Speaker 1: Well and I think they're already a shooting season four,
- 44:36Speaker 1: so we then want to.
- 44:38Speaker 2: Do if four doesn't improve, then five shouldn't happen at all.
- 44:42Speaker 2: If I own sky Dance, I'd cut it.
- 44:45Speaker 1: Georgia corn Law, your settlement will be merciful and quick.
- 44:53Speaker 2: And I still don't understand, like you have a Conoonian
- 44:58Speaker 2: soon love with uh Kirk and Spot but they see
- 45:05Speaker 2: Con like, who's this con guy?
- 45:09Speaker 1: What what if in this universe? The wrath of Gon
- 45:11Speaker 1: is like because he broke up with con, Yeah, that's
- 45:15Speaker 1: the wrath of gon.
- 45:18Speaker 5: She falls in love with con Yeah, the Wrath of Lawn.
- 45:21Speaker 1: Yeah, the Wrath of Lawn.
