- 0:59Speaker 1: not So Slim aka black Will Livingston aka mister Magazine
- 1:04Speaker 1: Dreams Deferred. I missed the second one, so that the
- 1:12Speaker 1: Black Will Livingston is a reference to the Last of Us,
- 1:15Speaker 1: which is okay, Ellie's joke book that she gets in
- 1:20Speaker 1: the game.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Okay, the joke book, Okay, yeah, I know the joke,
- 1:24Speaker 2: but she gets in the in the show too.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Yep, yep, we were actually off air.
- 1:29Speaker 2: We well, as we welcome Chris to the show, we
- 1:31Speaker 2: were actually distressing how I hate the Last of Us?
- 1:37Speaker 1: Well you didn't say you hated it in pre production,
- 1:40Speaker 1: then wow, I hate me on my first time on
- 1:44Speaker 1: the show. This was a safe space.
- 1:48Speaker 2: No, no, definitely it's not. That's what our comments are
- 1:51Speaker 2: on YouTube are learning this week. It's definitely not. Definitely
- 1:54Speaker 2: not a safe safe So on tik talking, I see y'all.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Let me let y'all know, y'all can follow on four
- 1:59Speaker 2: on her, but that shit is not a safe space.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I'm not gonna lie.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I like you.
- 2:05Speaker 3: I like the other two of the most the whole
- 2:06Speaker 3: Dulton not so slim and all that other stuff. That
- 2:09Speaker 3: that shit was fired. So obviously you've seen Sinners what
- 2:12Speaker 3: you thought about it.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I've seen Cinners twice and I saw it the second time.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I wanted to see it in seventy millimeter because I'm
- 2:20Speaker 1: a movie nerd and Ryan Cougler is such an earnest dude,
- 2:26Speaker 1: and he's also a nerd, So when he put out
- 2:28Speaker 1: that Kodak YouTube video, I was like, okay, man, I
- 2:32Speaker 1: got all right, man, I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go
- 2:33Speaker 1: see it in seventy milimeter like you wanted. And it
- 2:38Speaker 1: was amazing. I knew that I was gonna see it
- 2:40Speaker 1: when I saw the Trust, like, oh, Michael b Jordan,
- 2:42Speaker 1: Ryan Couger, I'm gonna see this. I wasn't expecting to.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Just like that movie was the world building. That was
- 2:49Speaker 1: a movie about people getting ready for a party, and
- 2:53Speaker 1: vampires just happened to show up. That was like and
- 2:56Speaker 1: to me they were an afterthought. It made me feel
- 2:59Speaker 1: like when I first read August Wilson. And as a
- 3:02Speaker 1: young actor, you kind of you grow up. You grow
- 3:05Speaker 1: up doing Rogers and Hammerstein stuff like Sound of Music
- 3:08Speaker 1: and doing all these cool plays and it's fun. But
- 3:11Speaker 1: there's no black people in these shows. You know. I
- 3:13Speaker 1: was in seven, I was in eighth grade and playing
- 3:17Speaker 1: a black character, playing me being a black dude leading
- 3:22Speaker 1: the von Trapp family out of Germany to get get
- 3:26Speaker 1: away from the Nazis and the Sound of Music. You're
- 3:30Speaker 1: you're back image. It's an image, and you're playing and
- 3:34Speaker 1: you're and you're doing all this stuff. And it took
- 3:36Speaker 1: me six seven eight years to get to college to
- 3:40Speaker 1: understand August Wilson. I had Denzel and Wesley Snipes and
- 3:43Speaker 1: Angela Bassett, all these great actors when I was growing up.
- 3:47Speaker 1: But then it's like the theater looking at reading August Wilson.
- 3:50Speaker 1: That guy sounds like my dad, that sounds like my uncle,
- 3:53Speaker 1: that sounds like the guy at the barbershop. This is
- 3:55Speaker 1: who I am. That's the same feeling I had when
- 3:59Speaker 1: I saw Sinners. I was like, I know that guy,
- 4:03Speaker 1: you know. I know Delta Slim, I know Cornbrook. I
- 4:07Speaker 1: know these people and and these are like well rounded characters.
- 4:12Speaker 1: And then there's vampires. Then there's the supernatural aspect of it,
- 4:17Speaker 1: so that we've I don't know that we've really seen
- 4:20Speaker 1: anything like that, and and that that has to be
- 4:23Speaker 1: celebrated in cinema.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Well, Chris, I'm not just wanting to ask you random questions,
- 4:27Speaker 3: but you know, really, who the fuck are you?
- 4:29Speaker 1: Man?
- 4:29Speaker 3: Because you just joined here, You just popped out on
- 4:32Speaker 3: people like who is this guy?
- 4:33Speaker 4: He tells peop who you are?
- 4:34Speaker 1: That's a question that I try to figure out every
- 4:37Speaker 1: day that I wake up. Who the fuck am I?
- 4:40Speaker 1: But you know, I'm an I'm an actor and comedian
- 4:45Speaker 1: and I have been I'm originally from the Maryland, Maryland,
- 4:50Speaker 1: DC area from PG County, born in DC, raised in
- 4:55Speaker 1: in PG County. I'm I've been act then since I
- 5:00Speaker 1: was a kid. One of the biggest disappointments in my
- 5:05Speaker 1: life was not getting cast on teen Summit and after legendary, Yeah,
- 5:14Speaker 1: legendary show. I made a Nonda Luis laugh in my audition,
- 5:19Speaker 1: so that that's a that's a win to me, that's
- 5:22Speaker 1: a win. But that that set me up for like,
- 5:25Speaker 1: it didn't make me a villain, but it set me
- 5:27Speaker 1: up in show business where you don't always get everything
- 5:30Speaker 1: you auditioned for. But yeah, I've done some TV and film.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I've been on Broadway. Didn't have any lines on that show,
- 5:40Speaker 1: but I was on Broadway. And yeah, I'm I'm and
- 5:44Speaker 1: I'm a comedian and I'm I'm filming my first comedy
- 5:48Speaker 1: special and on June twenty seventh at Caveat in New
- 5:52Speaker 1: York City, seven o'clock, nine to thirty show Nice, I got,
- 5:57Speaker 1: I got these jokes I got. I mean, I don't
- 5:59Speaker 1: I'm not saying. And I'm better than Will Livingston, but
- 6:02Speaker 1: I'm kind of nice. I'm nice with it, and I
- 6:05Speaker 1: think I think you I think people, if you come
- 6:07Speaker 1: to the show, I think you'll have a great time
- 6:09Speaker 1: and you'll you'll you'll find you'll find that, uh, I've
- 6:13Speaker 1: got bars as they I don't even think people say
- 6:15Speaker 1: that anymore. Jesus, I'm old, but still but still cool.
- 6:21Speaker 3: People still say that you still okay, it's fine, Well
- 6:25Speaker 3: that's cool that you're from PG County.
- 6:26Speaker 4: That you said the area.
- 6:28Speaker 3: We both went to Howard University, so we know the
- 6:30Speaker 3: area the area very well.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I make you really sad. I went to school with
- 6:34Speaker 1: a number. Oh you did, yeah, man, yeah, okay.
- 6:39Speaker 2: I got to know her like oh yeah.
- 6:43Speaker 1: And that's even And the way you said that, I
- 6:45Speaker 1: really believe it because like beautiful woman you know that.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Yeah that was because like I got to know her.
- 6:51Speaker 2: She graduated like my freshman year, but I got to
- 6:53Speaker 2: know her like like the second half of my freshman year,
- 6:56Speaker 2: and I was like I could not believe how cool
- 6:58Speaker 2: she was, for you know, how stunny you know she is? Yeah,
- 7:02Speaker 2: but no, she's super chill man. One of each other
- 7:04Speaker 2: is like, yeah, I love Ananda, like okay.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Like the Memories of Ananda. That's gonna be this episode.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Well we came together because there has been a lot
- 7:13Speaker 3: a lot of trailers that have come out. There's a
- 7:16Speaker 3: lot of movies coming out, and we just definitely wanted
- 7:18Speaker 3: to talk through them with you to see how you
- 7:19Speaker 3: felt to see again, like, is this something you've been
- 7:22Speaker 3: looking forward to, something you think is trash and even
- 7:26Speaker 3: though this has been out, will the trailers have been
- 7:28Speaker 3: out for a while something that we're super looking forward to.
- 7:30Speaker 3: It's fantastic for I don't know if you can see
- 7:32Speaker 3: Bename's background, but there are a lot of instances of
- 7:35Speaker 3: Galactics back there, and Galactus, as we know, will be
- 7:38Speaker 3: appearing in what capacity we don't know, but we know
- 7:40Speaker 3: he's there.
- 7:40Speaker 4: I don't know how much of a comic pressure you are, but.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Now I liked I've seen every Marvel movie since Iron Man,
- 7:48Speaker 1: and I have a couple of action figures I have.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I have a Kang the Conqueror. This is he's on
- 7:56Speaker 1: my desk. That's a rarity now, and this is well
- 7:59Speaker 1: he's probably the black one. And this is this is uh,
- 8:02Speaker 1: you know, I got him too. I picked up two
- 8:04Speaker 1: of him just in case you.
- 8:06Speaker 4: Did right, you did right?
- 8:08Speaker 1: Yeah, So I got I got these and he these
- 8:11Speaker 1: are just kind of on my desk, but I kind
- 8:13Speaker 1: of I have a bunch of you know what got
- 8:17Speaker 1: me into it sidebar, It was when it's the young
- 8:22Speaker 1: brother who played Finn in uh Star Wars. So when
- 8:29Speaker 1: he got cast as Finn, everybody was all excited. And
- 8:33Speaker 1: then and then I started getting like some of the
- 8:36Speaker 1: action figures because I get when I was a kid,
- 8:38Speaker 1: I loved them. It's kind of sprawled into like a
- 8:41Speaker 1: lot of the black characters. And then like the black
- 8:43Speaker 1: Panther action figure kind of got me back in and
- 8:46Speaker 1: it's like, oh, I need to stop. So I've kind
- 8:48Speaker 1: of kind of chilled.
- 8:50Speaker 4: You don't have.
- 8:51Speaker 1: To costs a lot. And then when women come over,
- 8:56Speaker 1: they're like you all right because I'm dating, I broke
- 9:01Speaker 1: up with my ex. We've been, we've whatever. So she
- 9:04Speaker 1: came over sart Man, the life things could be.
- 9:16Speaker 2: This is not a safe space, but you want to
- 9:18Speaker 2: talk about it.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I just remember it's almost like it's like the forty
- 9:24Speaker 1: year old Virgin where he where he had all of
- 9:26Speaker 1: his action figures. Like one woman who I was out
- 9:29Speaker 1: on a date with and I had gone to this
- 9:31Speaker 1: toy fair and it was my first time going to
- 9:34Speaker 1: a toy fair. She's like, what did you do this weekend?
- 9:36Speaker 1: So I went to get something to eat, I did
- 9:38Speaker 1: some shows, and then I went to this toy fair
- 9:40Speaker 1: in Parsipany in New Jersey and I collect sometimes I
- 9:44Speaker 1: collect action figures, and she said, yeah, that clocks. I
- 9:51Speaker 1: was like, well then she wasn't the woman from me.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Nah, no, no at all.
- 9:56Speaker 3: And you mentioned you mentioned I got him, you know,
- 9:58Speaker 3: and I that one for the same reasons y'all did.
- 10:01Speaker 4: That's sad? Why we getting We're like, just in case
- 10:03Speaker 4: this never happens again.
- 10:04Speaker 2: No, I got what's his name? He who remained? Because
- 10:07Speaker 2: I know it's never gonna happen.
- 10:15Speaker 4: Never even had that thought. And I had, like, we
- 10:17Speaker 4: ain't never gonna see it, like I have like Captain America.
- 10:19Speaker 4: I have one what's his face? Just got named Captain America.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I have that falcon, you.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Know, I got all that ship man.
- 10:25Speaker 2: See those are cool. But no, we know what's his name?
- 10:28Speaker 2: It's not returning it was. He was so good in
- 10:31Speaker 2: magazine Dreams.
- 10:32Speaker 4: I was gonna say, did you see that, Ben, I
- 10:33Speaker 4: don't think you seen it.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I saw it that. Yeah, the first week it was out.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Is it out?
- 10:41Speaker 4: It's been out.
- 10:42Speaker 1: It's on vod Now, yeah, last month. Yeah, it's like
- 10:48Speaker 1: late late March.
- 10:49Speaker 3: I thought it was March, like last night was April
- 10:52Speaker 3: came out late March, yeah, Sam.
- 10:55Speaker 2: I swear to god, I thought it was like coming
- 10:59Speaker 2: out later this because I know that, you know, the
- 11:01Speaker 2: first time when it was supposed to come out, it
- 11:03Speaker 2: was supposed to be his.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Oscar movie, and they were like pushing a for awards.
- 11:06Speaker 2: So that being said, I figured they would dropping around November,
- 11:09Speaker 2: like both Oscar movies, and I've seen posters thinking that,
- 11:13Speaker 2: I was like, you know, a poster meaning you know,
- 11:15Speaker 2: November and no, okay, So.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I was as as an AMC A list member. I
- 11:22Speaker 1: was pleasantly surprised that it was playing in a lot
- 11:25Speaker 1: of theaters, so I was happy about that so I
- 11:28Speaker 1: could pick and choose where I wanted to go. But
- 11:30Speaker 1: I thought I had issues with the script. But overall,
- 11:34Speaker 1: that performance, I don't think we've ever seen I've never
- 11:37Speaker 1: seen a black, black actor get to do some of
- 11:42Speaker 1: the things that he did, Like it was it was
- 11:43Speaker 1: a tour de force. You know. I'm not I'm not
- 11:47Speaker 1: condoning his his outside life, you know, And I think
- 11:51Speaker 1: he if it feels like he's on the path. As
- 11:54Speaker 1: I said that the action figure fell, but as I said,
- 11:58Speaker 1: but uh, but I just I don't think we've ever
- 12:02Speaker 1: seen anything like that, and we don't. You you kind
- 12:05Speaker 1: of get to see like white actors get to be
- 12:07Speaker 1: kind of silly or be off, or be on the
- 12:10Speaker 1: spectrum or you know, neuro divergent, and then some of
- 12:13Speaker 1: those moments you saw Tatiana, right, m m oh no, okay,
- 12:16Speaker 1: you should. You could homework nerds, do some homework for that.
- 12:20Speaker 1: I would say, it's it's good, it's it's just it's
- 12:23Speaker 1: a terrific performance. I love I loved it.
- 12:26Speaker 4: Okay, that's fair.
- 12:28Speaker 3: I guess you're not seeing Fantastic four because we diverged
- 12:31Speaker 3: from the question.
- 12:34Speaker 4: I'm gonna say, like that shit, that's your boy.
- 12:37Speaker 1: It seems it seems like it's a it's I like Thunderbolts,
- 12:42Speaker 1: not as much as everybody else, but I did like it.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I thought it was solid, and I think Florence Pugh
- 12:48Speaker 1: held it together. Yeah, it seems like it's it seems
- 12:50Speaker 1: like it's like a return to form, uh for the
- 12:55Speaker 1: m c U. Because it's it's been kind of shaky really,
- 12:59Speaker 1: and and so I'm excited. I'll be there Thursday afternoon
- 13:04Speaker 1: to see it. So it's a good cast and the
- 13:07Speaker 1: trailer looked great. I liked Galactus, like the massiveness, the
- 13:12Speaker 1: scope of how big that he is, and so I'm ready.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I'm ready for it.
- 13:17Speaker 3: And you mentioned you're a fan of like obviously the
- 13:19Speaker 3: whole the tidy of the MCU. But have you ever
- 13:21Speaker 3: been to the comics?
- 13:24Speaker 1: A little bit when I was a kid, but not
- 13:26Speaker 1: so much. I have a couple of I don't know,
- 13:28Speaker 1: he wouldn't be MCU, but I think maybe around twenty
- 13:31Speaker 1: eleven when the Brian Michael Bendis Miles Morales started came out.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I have a few of those, and I'm a fan
- 13:40Speaker 1: of Spider Man, but in particular I really enjoyed Miles Morales.
- 13:46Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, that's fair.
- 13:48Speaker 1: That's fair.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Now the next thing, and this has been the whole
- 13:52Speaker 3: thing about Superman legacy, about the whole reboot of the
- 13:56Speaker 3: DC or I don't know what's it called now, the
- 13:57Speaker 3: DCU for sure. Now I guess he was the dc
- 14:00Speaker 3: It was DCE EU and I was back to DCU whatever.
- 14:05Speaker 3: I don't know how much you know about classics Superman,
- 14:07Speaker 3: but this seems like like like Ben Ben always talks
- 14:09Speaker 3: about how like this really excites the fan base because
- 14:12Speaker 3: they're really like touching on like the classic things like
- 14:15Speaker 3: his dog, like that's never really been done recently that
- 14:18Speaker 3: I know of Superman's dog.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I hold I think it's like certain parts
- 14:26Speaker 2: of the fan base. I haven't really paid attention to
- 14:28Speaker 2: how people reacted to the new trailer, but overall, I
- 14:31Speaker 2: know there's a lot of people who love Man of
- 14:33Speaker 2: Steel and love you know, that version of it. So
- 14:35Speaker 2: I know there's people who are hating on this just
- 14:37Speaker 2: as much as people are loving it.
- 14:39Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe, yeah, maybe.
- 14:40Speaker 3: I mean I was one of the Man of Still
- 14:42Speaker 3: lovers and I love Henry cavill as Superman. But like
- 14:45Speaker 3: this has also gotten a really good reception too, Like
- 14:48Speaker 3: people are like, from what I've seen it, it's even
- 14:51Speaker 3: if there is I'm.
- 14:52Speaker 4: Sure there is, there always will be. But I've got
- 14:54Speaker 4: I've seen nothing but generally really great reception about this.
- 14:57Speaker 2: That's good to hear, because I don't I stopped paying
- 14:59Speaker 2: attention about people, you know, especially on something like Superman
- 15:01Speaker 2: because it's.
- 15:02Speaker 1: So so divisive.
- 15:04Speaker 2: I guess, you know, so I'm not really Yeah, I
- 15:06Speaker 2: just I thought the new trailer was incredible, and I
- 15:08Speaker 2: thought it looks everything about it looks great, But I
- 15:11Speaker 2: haven't been paying attention. After I watched it, I stopped,
- 15:14Speaker 2: you know, watching the reaction to it.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I think it looks good. I mean, you gotta kind
- 15:21Speaker 1: of give James Gunn some leeway. I mean, he's trying
- 15:25Speaker 1: to fix it. I mean, what's what's the the HBO
- 15:30Speaker 1: show with the guy with the helmet with the guy
- 15:33Speaker 1: with the helmet peacemaker. I didn't know anything about that character.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Watching that show was really fun. I enjoyed it. I'm
- 15:43Speaker 1: looking forward to season two. So he's there to try
- 15:47Speaker 1: to right the ship, and it seems like, you know,
- 15:49Speaker 1: he's got a great track record, so we got to
- 15:51Speaker 1: give him a shot, you know, like I'm gonna be
- 15:54Speaker 1: there opening weekend like everybody else. And I'm rooting for
- 15:57Speaker 1: him because it's just been a little bleak over there
- 16:00Speaker 1: in the DCU, and and those are the toys that
- 16:04Speaker 1: I played with growing up, Superman, Batman, all all of that,
- 16:07Speaker 1: so I'm looking for it to be good. There was
- 16:10Speaker 1: what did you all think? Did you see the part
- 16:13Speaker 1: in the trailer where I guess there was some hullabaloo
- 16:17Speaker 1: about the blinking.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Oh my god, that shit pissed me off.
- 16:21Speaker 3: First of all, I didn't even know it was a
- 16:22Speaker 3: thing until I saw some like tiktoks about it where
- 16:27Speaker 3: they say they fixed the trailer. So there's a point
- 16:29Speaker 3: in the trailer where it's the part where like the
- 16:32Speaker 3: crowd is angry with Superman, like they mad at him
- 16:34Speaker 3: about something like they not fucking with Superman, right, And
- 16:37Speaker 3: so he's walking through an angry crowd and someone throws
- 16:40Speaker 3: a can or something at his head and it hits
- 16:42Speaker 3: him in the head, and the actor naturally because he's
- 16:44Speaker 3: a human being playing an alien, but he blinks.
- 16:47Speaker 4: And I didn't even know this was even a thing.
- 16:50Speaker 4: For whatever reason.
- 16:51Speaker 3: There was like this hooplay by a loud minority that
- 16:56Speaker 3: at Superman, nothing would FaZe him, why would he blink?
- 16:58Speaker 3: And I guess that toxic part of the fandom got
- 17:02Speaker 3: loud enough and got to the people in the studios
- 17:05Speaker 3: and everything so much that they actually went in and
- 17:08Speaker 3: I think they used AI.
- 17:09Speaker 4: They edited the trailer so that.
- 17:11Speaker 3: When Superman gets hit in the head with the can,
- 17:13Speaker 3: he doesn't blink, it just hits like. He still has
- 17:16Speaker 3: this look on his face like he's upset, but there's
- 17:19Speaker 3: no blinking Okay. Now, First of all, again, like I said,
- 17:23Speaker 3: I even knew know that was even a problem like that.
- 17:27Speaker 3: I was just like, why did y'all How could y'all
- 17:29Speaker 3: look so deeply into something like that? Secondly, at the
- 17:32Speaker 3: end of the day, from why I understanding a superman
- 17:34Speaker 3: live regardless of.
- 17:35Speaker 4: The fact that he's an alien.
- 17:36Speaker 3: He takes his love and understanding and empathy from humanity.
- 17:41Speaker 3: And it's not about oh, he's shouldn't fill a can.
- 17:44Speaker 3: We know that he's impervious to most of these things.
- 17:46Speaker 3: We know that that's not the point. He's showing emotion
- 17:49Speaker 3: at the end of the day, that's what he does.
- 17:51Speaker 3: He shows emotion, he shows empathy, he shows heart, he
- 17:53Speaker 3: shows character. He is disappointed, he is sad, he's overwhelmed,
- 17:58Speaker 3: anything else you could think of, Like it's clear from
- 18:00Speaker 3: seen in the trailer, and it's only a few seconds long.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Another thing, Ben is very short, but it's enough Like
- 18:05Speaker 3: when you the first time I seen it, I was like, damn,
- 18:07Speaker 3: like they really not fucking with him, Like you know
- 18:10Speaker 3: what I'm saying, Like you felt something, So for them
- 18:13Speaker 3: to go back and edit it and like like it
- 18:15Speaker 3: was on like Collider or something.
- 18:16Speaker 4: I'm like, why the fuck would they do this?
- 18:19Speaker 1: It's like you're you're all feeling it and everybody, Actually
- 18:21Speaker 1: I ain't even.
- 18:22Speaker 3: The thing is I just it was so natural. It
- 18:24Speaker 3: happened naturally, so I didn't think nothing of it. So
- 18:26Speaker 3: then when it came back, it's like, oh, he fixed it.
- 18:28Speaker 4: Fix fucking one.
- 18:31Speaker 1: I agree.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Yeah, to even hear this is like it just makes
- 18:35Speaker 2: me lose faith and feel like I've lost touch with
- 18:37Speaker 2: humanity or humanity's lost touch with themselves.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Like yeah, So the other thing that I knowed, well,
- 18:44Speaker 1: I don't know because they what's his.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Name looked pretty buff, but like, I know that James
- 18:48Speaker 2: Gunn took a large portion of his inspiration from All
- 18:52Speaker 2: Star Superman, and the All Star Superman comic is one
- 18:55Speaker 2: of my favorites.
- 18:56Speaker 1: We talked about a lot.
- 18:57Speaker 2: To me, Chris, you have to okay, Yeah, I mean,
- 19:00Speaker 2: it's just absolutely incredible and it just gets Superman down
- 19:03Speaker 2: to his essence. But one of the things that Grant
- 19:05Speaker 2: Morrison when they wrote it, they said that they didn't
- 19:09Speaker 2: feel like they were inspired by something, but I can't
- 19:12Speaker 2: remember what it was exactly, but they basically were saying
- 19:15Speaker 2: that Clark Kent Superman wouldn't have big muscles because they're
- 19:19Speaker 2: not someone who is working out. They're powered by the sun,
- 19:23Speaker 2: so they don't need muscles to be strong. They have
- 19:27Speaker 2: you know, they they're Superman like, their power comes from
- 19:30Speaker 2: other places. So when you read All Star Superman, Superman
- 19:33Speaker 2: is not that you know, he's buff, but he's not.
- 19:36Speaker 5: Like yeah, and it worked for the story, but I know,
- 19:43Speaker 5: I just want to see how people accept some of
- 19:46Speaker 5: the things because there's a lot of things like of
- 19:48Speaker 5: that nature that are in All Star Superman that make
- 19:50Speaker 5: it so great to me.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Is that he is human and all this. Yeah, it's
- 19:55Speaker 2: like looking at footage like that is so we're just
- 20:00Speaker 2: part of this generation that breaks things down the seconds
- 20:03Speaker 2: and shit. And it's so because everything you know, it's
- 20:05Speaker 2: like because we viewed things and tip tops of you know,
- 20:08Speaker 2: seconds at a time. It's like, if it's not a
- 20:10Speaker 2: perfect twelve seconds of cinema, you know, it's it's a problem. Yeah,
- 20:15Speaker 2: and it's just something it doesn't make sense because you're
- 20:18Speaker 2: not reviewing film like.
- 20:19Speaker 1: That, and sometimes you find beauty and mistakes. Yeah, and
- 20:23Speaker 1: you like, I'm I'm somebody who like around around college,
- 20:28Speaker 1: Like when I was nineteen, I started collecting DVDs and
- 20:32Speaker 1: I bought my first DVD player. And the thing that
- 20:34Speaker 1: I loved about the time back then is listening to
- 20:37Speaker 1: a director's commentary and they just say, oh, we kind
- 20:41Speaker 1: of had like a happy accident and we got this
- 20:44Speaker 1: really beautiful shot, and it's it's like you kind of
- 20:48Speaker 1: have to Yeah, we're too we were too critical and
- 20:53Speaker 1: and we don't we don't really get to enjoy these things,
- 20:56Speaker 1: Like you know, how could we? I mean, I think
- 21:00Speaker 1: we're we're of similar age. I'm not going to put
- 21:02Speaker 1: age on you guys that you're not, but like, could
- 21:06Speaker 1: you imagine, as with the tech, how technology has come
- 21:10Speaker 1: when we were like little kids to even be seeing
- 21:13Speaker 1: all of these really terrific shows and movies with superheroes
- 21:18Speaker 1: that we could only see in the comic books and like,
- 21:21Speaker 1: hold the actions. It's amazing. So we kind of, I
- 21:25Speaker 1: don't know, we lose. We're kind of spoiled in a
- 21:28Speaker 1: lot of ways. Yeah, Like I like talking about stuff
- 21:31Speaker 1: and breaking it down, but I like to enjoy shit too,
- 21:34Speaker 1: you know.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that was one thing like I was very surprised
- 21:38Speaker 2: and kind of relieved that when Sinners got all of
- 21:43Speaker 2: love that it got the people. I didn't see people
- 21:45Speaker 2: being like, well, they need to digitize this film and
- 21:48Speaker 2: clean it up, you know, because like I know, there's
- 21:51Speaker 2: one account on Twitter and a lot I remember when
- 21:54Speaker 2: it blew up, a lot of us started hating it,
- 21:56Speaker 2: like a lot of hip hop heads, because it was
- 21:58Speaker 2: it's this white dude who takes old hip hop videos
- 22:03Speaker 2: from the nineties and two thousands and adjust them to
- 22:06Speaker 2: sixty frames per second.
- 22:08Speaker 1: He scales them up, yes, and it looks distressed. And
- 22:12Speaker 1: I'm someone who is like you, Christian.
- 22:14Speaker 2: I've studied film at Howard, like that's my first thing
- 22:17Speaker 2: before anything, and film is shot at twenty four frames
- 22:21Speaker 2: per second, you know, for the reason how the mechanism works.
- 22:25Speaker 2: You know, that's how it rolls through the camera, et cetera.
- 22:27Speaker 2: So when you upgraded, the sixty frame ites not what
- 22:29Speaker 2: the director wanted, it's not what anyone wanted, but it's
- 22:33Speaker 2: just new. It's a different generation. Like I've seen people
- 22:36Speaker 2: talk about that with video agains. For They're like, I
- 22:38Speaker 2: can't play a video game in let's sixty fay for
- 22:40Speaker 2: a second, and to me, sixty phrase per second for
- 22:42Speaker 2: most games looks weird, you know, because for most it's
- 22:45Speaker 2: just too clean. Like I still prefer that thirty frame
- 22:48Speaker 2: per second, you know. I know when I'm playing a
- 22:50Speaker 2: fighting game, I might need to mess the frames, but
- 22:52Speaker 2: I'm getting my ass hit either way.
- 22:54Speaker 1: So I don't know, just not saying me like Neanderthal
- 23:02Speaker 1: when it comes it looks good. Look at Spider Man,
- 23:06Speaker 1: like he's amazing, it's amazing. I thought you were going
- 23:09Speaker 1: to talk about this dude. I don't even want to
- 23:11Speaker 1: say his name, but like I was telling y'all in
- 23:13Speaker 1: pre production, I went to this AMC has this thing
- 23:16Speaker 1: like maybe once a month called screen Unseen. You go
- 23:19Speaker 1: to the theater. You don't know what you're seeing until
- 23:21Speaker 1: the movie comes on. And so last night it was
- 23:25Speaker 1: Bring Her Back the New, a twenty four flick that's
- 23:29Speaker 1: coming out soon, a horror movie. Really, it's a good movie.
- 23:31Speaker 1: It's really it's crazy.
- 23:34Speaker 2: That's not by the people who did Barbarian right, No,
- 23:37Speaker 2: that they got something else coming that's weapons.
- 23:40Speaker 1: I know, Yeah, I want to see that. That's gonna
- 23:42Speaker 1: be dope. These are the guys of Philippoop Brothers who
- 23:45Speaker 1: did talk to me like in twenty twenty two to
- 23:49Speaker 1: twenty three years that one. So I saw it, I
- 23:52Speaker 1: was like, this is crazy interesting movie. Is a guy
- 23:56Speaker 1: that was trying, who was hating on centers. He's white,
- 24:00Speaker 1: he's a filmmaker that's done some pretty good stuff. But
- 24:03Speaker 1: so he sees bring Her Back, uh and he he says,
- 24:07Speaker 1: he says, you might call me a sinners, but bring
- 24:10Speaker 1: Her Back is the best straight horror movie so far
- 24:13Speaker 1: this year.
- 24:14Speaker 4: Say his name, yeah, just say his name.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Joe Russo. Joe Russo. Wait, not of the Russo. No, no, no, no, no, no, okay,
- 24:22Speaker 1: he is let me, let me because he's done some stuff.
- 24:27Speaker 4: Citadel Cherry extraction. He did it, that bullshit extract.
- 24:32Speaker 1: I mean was Joe Russo tweets his handle it.
- 24:36Speaker 4: He was the producer on twenty one Bridges.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Did he direct a distraction and producer?
- 24:42Speaker 4: Oh well, that's what I'm saying, Like you can say that, yeah.
- 24:46Speaker 2: I still say fucking either way though, even if he
- 24:48Speaker 2: directed distract.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Every fut here, every time we do get something we
- 24:53Speaker 1: like or somebody black puts out something, it's always somebody
- 24:56Speaker 1: that wants to shit on it, and it's like, let
- 24:59Speaker 1: us have The movie was good. It was dope movie.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Black people creating in Hollywood have to overcome far more
- 25:11Speaker 2: every time they make anything than any white person will
- 25:14Speaker 2: ever have to do.
- 25:16Speaker 1: The storytelling alone.
- 25:17Speaker 2: That it hates for black people to do things like
- 25:20Speaker 2: that Ryan Coodler had to do in Centers, to break
- 25:23Speaker 2: down and show you this whole world of sharecropping, of.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Blues music, of who do of this?
- 25:30Speaker 2: Of that before you even get to vampires is something
- 25:34Speaker 2: that's something like Lost Boys, which is me one of
- 25:36Speaker 2: the greatest scripts, greatest films and greatest vampire film of
- 25:40Speaker 2: all time, doesn't have to do. And that's why Centners
- 25:44Speaker 2: is now my number one vampire film, even above Lost Boys.
- 25:48Speaker 2: And so I don't really have time for an ass
- 25:51Speaker 2: idiot like that who made such statesments, because there's no
- 25:55Speaker 2: comparison of pretty much any film that I've done.
- 25:58Speaker 1: To see this year, I team magazine Dreams that.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Will, you know, put it on the level of doing
- 26:03Speaker 2: the work that Sinners had to do and then to
- 26:06Speaker 2: be that entertaining At the same time, I don't even
- 26:09Speaker 2: have time to give it breath.
- 26:10Speaker 1: I feel it's just a second time old boy said
- 26:13Speaker 1: something and I was sitting I was simmering.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Pull up, Oh, well him, That's what I'm saying, Like
- 26:17Speaker 2: you can give him a good we making excuses and
- 26:21Speaker 2: being like, oh no, it's.
- 26:22Speaker 1: A nice movie over here.
- 26:23Speaker 2: No like no, Like nobody has to do the work
- 26:27Speaker 2: that Brian Kugler that I've seen this year, that Brian
- 26:30Speaker 2: Coogler did with Sinners. There's nothing on that level, and
- 26:34Speaker 2: I doubt there will be. It's just not you know
- 26:36Speaker 2: how it works.
- 26:38Speaker 1: To me, I feel like it has the potential and
- 26:41Speaker 1: because it's backed by a big studio, it's got the
- 26:44Speaker 1: potential to do what everything everywhere, all at once did
- 26:48Speaker 1: because that that was the first film that I remember,
- 26:51Speaker 1: just off the top of my head that opens in
- 26:54Speaker 1: the spring, and it's just wired to wire love and
- 26:57Speaker 1: appreciation of it and back then, but two three years ago,
- 27:01Speaker 1: a twenty four, much much smaller studio back then. But
- 27:05Speaker 1: if you got you got the power of Warner Brothers
- 27:07Speaker 1: behind you, I think it can carry. It's definitely gonna
- 27:11Speaker 1: win technical awards, I think. I mean as far as
- 27:15Speaker 1: like the standouts are concern like Delroy Lindo should at
- 27:19Speaker 1: least get a nom for it. I mean, I hope,
- 27:22Speaker 1: I would hope. So just just trying to think pragmatically
- 27:26Speaker 1: about it, not.
- 27:27Speaker 2: With no no no see man, you're on the wrong
- 27:28Speaker 2: show again. No no, no, I'm show.
- 27:32Speaker 6: I know.
- 27:32Speaker 2: No, I stop you there because we ain't pragmatic about things.
- 27:35Speaker 2: It's like, no, Center Sweep is the campaign, you know
- 27:38Speaker 2: what I mean. It's like that shit should be nominated.
- 27:41Speaker 2: It made the most money. Money talks, money walks into
- 27:45Speaker 2: ospar raates like you know, whether people want to say
- 27:47Speaker 2: it or not, and it's gonna have the critical claim,
- 27:50Speaker 2: so we need to just say no, Ryan Corupler, best director.
- 27:54Speaker 1: You know, Center's for best film.
- 27:55Speaker 2: It needs to be nominated, rank the best writer like
- 27:58Speaker 2: down the line. It don't need I mean, and I'm sorry, bro,
- 28:02Speaker 2: but we over here with your eyes and nominated books
- 28:04Speaker 2: that we put out.
- 28:05Speaker 1: So it's like the Oscris is right there. We gotta
- 28:07Speaker 1: go for him, like no, I think we will. No,
- 28:09Speaker 1: I'm saying based on history, then it's like yeah, fuck history, No, no,
- 28:17Speaker 1: like that know where you where you come from to
- 28:19Speaker 1: know where you're going.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Yeah, but you also got to have a you know,
- 28:22Speaker 2: a vision of being like no, this is the one
- 28:25Speaker 2: we we gotta stop thinking like I don't like thinking
- 28:29Speaker 2: of like, oh, let's hope for this, let's think of like, no,
- 28:34Speaker 2: this is what it should be.
- 28:35Speaker 1: I know what you mean.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, like, yeah, I'm past that. Let's hope
- 28:40Speaker 2: for this days. You know, I got you.
- 28:43Speaker 1: I'm just saying that, like the last time we saw
- 28:46Speaker 1: this was with that film, and I think it with
- 28:49Speaker 1: the studio behind it, which is much bigger than A
- 28:52Speaker 1: twenty four back then, and now m it can carry
- 28:57Speaker 1: it and it I think it will. Yes, Now we
- 29:02Speaker 1: don't know what's going We don't know what's gonna happen.
- 29:04Speaker 1: And and in the fall when you hit that onslaught
- 29:08Speaker 1: of everybody gunning for the gunning for the title, everybody's
- 29:12Speaker 1: coming after Patrick Mahomes, everybody's coming after Jalen Hurt, the
- 29:16Speaker 1: big you know. Yeah, yeah, because because I'm I'm I
- 29:22Speaker 1: see it as as taking all these awards. I see
- 29:25Speaker 1: it should be now we all know it should what
- 29:28Speaker 1: should happen, and what happens sometimes that's yeah.
- 29:31Speaker 2: But see that what I'm saying we should like we
- 29:33Speaker 2: gotta especially in terms of just putting things out into
- 29:36Speaker 2: the universe that you want to see. You gotta start,
- 29:39Speaker 2: you know with the no, this is what I want
- 29:41Speaker 2: to see, and this is what I believe is going
- 29:43Speaker 2: to happen because when we start with the oh, but
- 29:46Speaker 2: you know, pragmatically, you're not We ain't gonna win shit.
- 29:50Speaker 2: You gotta start with a you know, a vision of
- 29:53Speaker 2: like there's no other thing. When you start with the
- 29:56Speaker 2: pragmatic vision, you ain't getting nowhere. Like he wouldn't. He
- 29:59Speaker 2: didn't make this movie magically, you know what I mean.
- 30:01Speaker 2: And that's what I'm talking to like people out there,
- 30:04Speaker 2: to anyone who's a creative you we got to stop thinking, oh, well,
- 30:08Speaker 2: history said this, you know, and this is how it
- 30:10Speaker 2: used to be, you know. And then especially when you
- 30:13Speaker 2: use an example like everything Everywhere all once, which cleaned up,
- 30:17Speaker 2: which did not make near the money Centers is made,
- 30:20Speaker 2: which is nowhere near on the level. Like even when
- 30:23Speaker 2: you so it's like history is shown that this movie
- 30:26Speaker 2: should win everything, right when you really look at it,
- 30:30Speaker 2: you know, if you even if you wanted to be
- 30:32Speaker 2: realistic about it, history is shown this movie should win everything.
- 30:35Speaker 2: It's made way more money than Everything Everywhere all once.
- 30:39Speaker 2: It's not the same type of critical acclaim, right.
- 30:42Speaker 3: And I agree with you Ben that we as supporters
- 30:45Speaker 3: should always have the positive and put that out there
- 30:47Speaker 3: about what we want, we feel correct. I also think
- 30:50Speaker 3: Chris is just tying this back to this original statement,
- 30:52Speaker 3: which was people should on black people for no reason.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's what I'm saying. We got.
- 30:56Speaker 2: I feel like we do a bit of it ourselves
- 30:58Speaker 2: by limitating ourselves, by limitations, by place some limitations on ourselves.
- 31:02Speaker 2: I feel like we can be that same type of people,
- 31:05Speaker 2: but we're like, oh, but you know, if.
- 31:08Speaker 1: It wins, that will be good.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Now fuck that, you know, like it should win everything,
- 31:11Speaker 2: and that should be the way, you know, the emotion
- 31:13Speaker 2: because we see what was a When did I first
- 31:16Speaker 2: start seeing that sweet movement on something?
- 31:18Speaker 1: You know?
- 31:18Speaker 2: Where it was like, you know, it's like hashtag something
- 31:22Speaker 2: sweet and it was a movie to me that didn't
- 31:23Speaker 2: deserve sweet. But you know, the fans were out there
- 31:26Speaker 2: on social media heavy.
- 31:28Speaker 4: Like shape of Water something.
- 31:30Speaker 1: No, No, it was something bright. It wasn't uh, what's
- 31:36Speaker 1: the what's my man?
- 31:38Speaker 2: It had some alliteration Land, No, niggas is not trying
- 31:42Speaker 2: because we would have. I would have barked the man down.
- 31:44Speaker 2: He tried to say like one that year. Yeah, No,
- 31:46Speaker 2: I just hated all land.
- 31:49Speaker 1: I didn't hate it.
- 31:53Speaker 3: I love that you that's fine, keep it red on
- 31:59Speaker 3: the show, right, And.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Was it better than Moonlight? No? No, it's not even
- 32:05Speaker 1: about that. It's movie. It's a it's like I hate
- 32:08Speaker 1: that director. You remember who's in it? Do you tell
- 32:10Speaker 1: me who's in it? And I probably get it. I
- 32:12Speaker 1: don't give a ship. No I don't.
- 32:14Speaker 2: It's not about who's in it. It's about the director.
- 32:16Speaker 2: And like I loved his movie before La La Land.
- 32:19Speaker 2: What what's someone always talking about Whiplash? Whiplash was terrific. Yeah,
- 32:23Speaker 2: but is it about jazz.
- 32:27Speaker 1: A little bit?
- 32:28Speaker 2: No? No, no, stop lying, No it's not. No, it's like.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Okay, no, no being an artist. No, it's not about
- 32:37Speaker 1: jazz at all. No, it's like it is.
- 32:40Speaker 2: And not only is it not about jazz, it's disrespectful
- 32:42Speaker 2: to what jazz is because it's some white boys thinking
- 32:46Speaker 2: that playing fast has anything to do with jazz music.
- 32:49Speaker 2: And it's like these white boy, this white man made
- 32:53Speaker 2: this movie where And that's and that's my problem with
- 32:55Speaker 2: La La Land, where you have a white man movies
- 32:58Speaker 2: about black music and telling mass audiences what black music
- 33:04Speaker 2: is about. So I haven't now and I think Whiplash
- 33:09Speaker 2: as a film not about jazz music. It's fantastic and
- 33:12Speaker 2: some torturous teacher beating the shit out of his students.
- 33:15Speaker 2: It's one of my favorite movies ever. But it's just
- 33:17Speaker 2: not about jazz, right.
- 33:18Speaker 1: No, that that's the dialogue around. But the dialogue around
- 33:23Speaker 1: Lyland was like they invented jazz black yeah, and that's
- 33:26Speaker 1: what I'm saying that And that was the bullshit of course.
- 33:28Speaker 1: See that's what happens when we allowed this to happen,
- 33:30Speaker 1: when we allowed whiplash, and then when we're like, oh yeah,
- 33:33Speaker 1: you know, no shops.
- 33:34Speaker 2: But when you're like, oh yeah, a lot of Land school,
- 33:35Speaker 2: it's like, no, fuck that, it's not cool.
- 33:40Speaker 1: It's the same way I feel about Hamilton. I could
- 33:42Speaker 1: go off to oh well Hamilton, Uh yeah, I didn't.
- 33:48Speaker 1: I think those people are very talented. I auditioned for Hamilton.
- 33:54Speaker 4: I love that.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Every time we named like a show movie, you're like, well,
- 33:57Speaker 3: I auditioned for that in twenty nineteen.
- 34:01Speaker 1: The only reason I was.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Element there did he start doing his uh it was
- 34:08Speaker 2: it was itself.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Lyrical spiritual miracle whip rap, to be to be, to
- 34:13Speaker 1: be Full, that's a just basic car lyrical spiritual miracle
- 34:19Speaker 1: whip I'm trying to think full disclosure. That was it.
- 34:27Speaker 1: So my dad had just died, and my manager was
- 34:31Speaker 1: trying to see if I was gonna, like not if
- 34:35Speaker 1: I was gonna just like go into my shell and
- 34:37Speaker 1: not audition for stuff. So I just looked at it
- 34:40Speaker 1: as a challenge. And so I was. I was doing
- 34:43Speaker 1: a gig in Atlantic City and I was in the
- 34:46Speaker 1: room by myself doing those uh songs and uh they're
- 34:51Speaker 1: not easy, like I can sing, but and I can,
- 34:54Speaker 1: I can. I know people's raps, but it was I
- 34:59Speaker 1: respect talent, but I don't. I don't. I don't appreciate
- 35:03Speaker 1: like the how white people just loved it, but they
- 35:08Speaker 1: don't love like real rap.
- 35:11Speaker 4: The real Yeah, they don't necessarily like or respect real
- 35:17Speaker 4: you know, they say.
- 35:17Speaker 1: In centerves like you know they love the music, they
- 35:19Speaker 1: don't love the people who do it right, right, So yeah, no,
- 35:23Speaker 1: we're I think we're on the same page. Oh you
- 35:25Speaker 1: know with that.
- 35:26Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I mean, I you know, I like I
- 35:29Speaker 2: like some of the performers in Hamilton. I've never been
- 35:32Speaker 2: an l M M fam I no on any level.
- 35:36Speaker 2: And I but I do have a huge problem with
- 35:39Speaker 2: taking hip hop and using it to tell the story
- 35:42Speaker 2: of Crackers, you know what I mean, and President Crackers
- 35:47Speaker 2: at that, like you know, I just I can't like that.
- 35:51Speaker 2: It's so it's you know moonlight. I mean that moonlight
- 35:54Speaker 2: is La La Land. You know, it's like these same
- 35:56Speaker 2: type of things where it's like that and which again,
- 36:00Speaker 2: which is why I love Centners so much, and you
- 36:03Speaker 2: know why I wrote this book right here, you know, and.
- 36:07Speaker 1: I love it and I think we just have to
- 36:10Speaker 1: we just have to be intentional like I think I was.
- 36:13Speaker 1: I was. I am being intentional by you know the
- 36:16Speaker 1: things that I'm going to talk about on June twenty
- 36:18Speaker 1: seventh and caveat seven and nine thirty. There you go.
- 36:24Speaker 1: It's me being my authentic self, like I am here.
- 36:28Speaker 1: But it's just just to make you laugh, you know.
- 36:31Speaker 1: That's I mean, that's what I'm It's I think we're
- 36:34Speaker 1: just at a time where, you know where I like
- 36:38Speaker 1: listening to you guys before I came on the show,
- 36:40Speaker 1: and I think this is we need this. The more
- 36:44Speaker 1: I see bullshit from people like Joe Russo, it's like
- 36:49Speaker 1: every time every time I think about quitting my podcast,
- 36:51Speaker 1: The Mundane Festival available wherever you listen to shows I'm like,
- 36:56Speaker 1: I'm glad we I'm glad we do this. I was
- 36:58Speaker 1: talking to one of my homies, the comic Damian Lemon,
- 37:01Speaker 1: talking about shows like Power, how that is Prestige TV.
- 37:06Speaker 1: The Shy is Prestige TV just because these people on
- 37:11Speaker 1: Ringer don't talk about it on the Ringer Verse. I
- 37:14Speaker 1: think it's good. I like it, I love I'm not
- 37:20Speaker 1: I'm not gonna be an elitist and say that I
- 37:22Speaker 1: don't watch it. Is it a good pleasure? No, it's not.
- 37:25Speaker 1: I love it.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Wait wait, wait a minute, I haven't missed an episode. Okay,
- 37:29Speaker 2: I'm not. I mean I've seen every every spin off,
- 37:32Speaker 2: every episode of everything.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Is it prestige?
- 37:40Speaker 4: You know prestige? What do you mean by that?
- 37:43Speaker 1: That's like that so you know how Bill Simmons has
- 37:46Speaker 1: the Ringer and all that, and like, oh, we're only
- 37:49Speaker 1: going to talk about Game of Thrones. We're only going
- 37:52Speaker 1: to talk about like, I know, the Game of Thrones
- 37:55Speaker 1: and it has problems too, but yeah, it's like all
- 37:59Speaker 1: these think like, okay, like what's the what's the white show?
- 38:02Speaker 1: HBO show, the all the white folks with the one
- 38:07Speaker 1: that just ended? Uh money, money folks, billions billions. That's showtime.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Uh damn, damn, what what's the show? The succession, Brian Succession,
- 38:20Speaker 1: all these prestige like the white shows and the great
- 38:23Speaker 1: and the acting is great.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Well see we okay, Chris, we were I think we
- 38:28Speaker 2: me and to well talking about this off air a
- 38:30Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago. But there was like, there was
- 38:32Speaker 2: this article that talked about I read where it's like
- 38:35Speaker 2: we're like, we're not in the Golden era of television anymore.
- 38:39Speaker 2: We're in like in an era of television that you
- 38:42Speaker 2: can have the look and feel of a Golden era television,
- 38:46Speaker 2: but it's really not. And it came up because we
- 38:48Speaker 2: were talking about Dared Were Born Again when it came out,
- 38:50Speaker 2: and like at first we were hype. When the first
- 38:52Speaker 2: two episodes dropped, we were like, yeah, great, And then
- 38:55Speaker 2: as the series went on, me especially, I was like, yo,
- 38:57Speaker 2: this has nothing to say. It is just like I
- 39:00Speaker 2: love it because Charlie Cox and uh what's the name
- 39:03Speaker 2: are fantastic and the writing.
- 39:05Speaker 1: Is good enough, you know where it's.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Like okay, but it's not like where like I put
- 39:12Speaker 2: something like I put some like the and or or
- 39:15Speaker 2: the Wire or even like you know, early Game of Thrones,
- 39:18Speaker 2: you know, or Sopranos, which I'm not the bigger fan of,
- 39:22Speaker 2: but you know, it was one of the things you
- 39:24Speaker 2: know for as time especially, And that's the way I
- 39:28Speaker 2: feel about Like no power is different.
- 39:32Speaker 1: But some are some are better than others. I have.
- 39:36Speaker 1: I had to go. I had to google how many
- 39:38Speaker 1: people's Marvin Shott? He kills everybody? Like every week.
- 39:43Speaker 2: My man is bodying, Like at least it's like right now,
- 39:46Speaker 2: he's up to two people.
- 39:48Speaker 1: When he rescued, when he rescued his goddaughter. Just say, body,
- 39:55Speaker 1: white guy with tattoos came in. Just say, a white
- 39:57Speaker 1: guy with tattoos came in. You'll be fine.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Yeah, Like, don't even want it's the greatest show ever made.
- 40:04Speaker 2: I've made this argument many a time that I will
- 40:07Speaker 2: break power up with anything, but I think.
- 40:10Speaker 1: It's really good. Like I'm not I'm not saying it's bad.
- 40:18Speaker 1: Wait what part google with number? Like I really googled
- 40:25Speaker 1: this one. Did it say umber twenty four? You know?
- 40:32Speaker 1: On one I saw?
- 40:33Speaker 2: But I don't feel like that's enough because like I know,
- 40:36Speaker 2: this week was this week was two more he caught
- 40:39Speaker 2: he caught two this week?
- 40:40Speaker 1: Yeah, well something's got to happen, something something, or or
- 40:48Speaker 1: to make Jukebox make that full villain turn. Yeah, that's
- 40:52Speaker 1: could be next season. She already lost her music career,
- 40:55Speaker 1: and I think she's the most compelling character on that show.
- 40:59Speaker 1: I think she's one of the best actors. I like
- 41:01Speaker 1: Marvin honestly, I like him.
- 41:06Speaker 2: He does it so smoothly he be shooting, he's so
- 41:11Speaker 2: hilarious with it.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Haley Hailey Kilgore and Patina Miller, to me, are the
- 41:16Speaker 1: best actors.
- 41:17Speaker 2: Patina who who's rock rock is Patina Mill Rock Patinas.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Old stage act and she looks she that that scene
- 41:28Speaker 1: that they did in the in the diner, that was
- 41:32Speaker 1: like it's like a masterclass.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Also, Joey badasss goods good.
- 41:37Speaker 1: But he's always been good because I like them.
- 41:39Speaker 4: On but this is not prestige TV.
- 41:41Speaker 1: But I mean that's what I'm saying.
- 41:42Speaker 2: It's like, I don't think, I don't I don't like
- 41:45Speaker 2: it's what is prestige?
- 41:47Speaker 4: Like, well, we asked that question on question yet.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Well y'all ain't let me answer. It's the one that
- 41:53Speaker 1: white folks be elevating all the time and say it's
- 41:55Speaker 1: the best, like like mad Men, Breaking Bad. Yes, every
- 42:00Speaker 1: every podcast or everybody on YouTube is talking about those shows.
- 42:05Speaker 1: But The Shy or Power just don't get which.
- 42:12Speaker 3: Has which by the way, has a lot more podcasts, coverage,
- 42:16Speaker 3: YouTube channels and everything fully dedicated to it. I mean,
- 42:19Speaker 3: there are probably hundreds of power based shows on YouTube
- 42:24Speaker 3: and podcasts and things like that. Like there's a whole
- 42:26Speaker 3: cottage industry that all they do is review that fucking
- 42:29Speaker 3: show and the Shy and everything around it, which is crazy.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Red. It was deep.
- 42:36Speaker 2: I was on there because I was on there before
- 42:38Speaker 2: they refealed Breeze, and the theories of who Breeze were
- 42:43Speaker 2: was was incredible.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Bread they were. I thought it was gonna be like
- 42:48Speaker 1: I was gonna be Joey because like most people are
- 42:51Speaker 1: province be Joey with a brain change or something. But
- 42:54Speaker 1: once he came back this season, it wasn't Breeze. Yeah.
- 42:57Speaker 2: I was like, that doesn't seem right, and then it,
- 43:00Speaker 2: you know, it turned out to be what's his name,
- 43:01Speaker 2: the Weirdo.
- 43:01Speaker 1: So I'm happy for him.
- 43:03Speaker 2: I'm happy for Shamik in one way, but it's also
- 43:06Speaker 2: like one of them to be digging his own.
- 43:10Speaker 1: I don't know what it is. It's like he it's
- 43:13Speaker 1: just you. He can't just rest on. I'm a handsome guy.
- 43:16Speaker 1: I kept moving apart. Yeah, it's like he just got
- 43:19Speaker 1: he gotta be weird.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just it's it's it's like and I'm hoping
- 43:24Speaker 2: that he's not like my man who played easy, because
- 43:27Speaker 2: you know that dude had a promising career and then
- 43:30Speaker 2: he threw it away.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 43:32Speaker 4: Wow, talk about a downfall.
- 43:33Speaker 1: I mean yeah, and is like, you know, he'd be
- 43:37Speaker 1: right on that, on the edge, on the edge. He
- 43:43Speaker 1: was great in the Wu Tang show, Like I thought.
- 43:45Speaker 1: I thought that was good until it got weird towards
- 43:47Speaker 1: the end. But it was still good. Oh wait, you
- 43:50Speaker 1: didn't like it towards the end.
- 43:52Speaker 2: I mean yeah, they were some of the some episodes,
- 43:55Speaker 2: some of them episodes were a little much like what
- 43:57Speaker 2: you're doing.
- 43:57Speaker 4: So what was that like?
- 43:59Speaker 2: Wait, as I think Wu Tang is one of my
- 44:02Speaker 2: you know, I've talked about it, one of my favorite
- 44:03Speaker 2: shows all time.
- 44:04Speaker 4: Right, is that prestige?
- 44:05Speaker 3: And and just to go back to what you were saying, Chris,
- 44:07Speaker 3: like I feel you on it, Like I don't like
- 44:10Speaker 3: when it's like you say these particular people of these
- 44:12Speaker 3: particular platforms that say, all well, and they get to
- 44:16Speaker 3: dictate what's prestige.
- 44:17Speaker 4: But to me, it's similar to white supremacy in general.
- 44:20Speaker 3: It's like, oh, this dictates what's normal, this distaste's accepted.
- 44:24Speaker 3: You understand, Like it's the same thing I had just
- 44:26Speaker 3: explained you You didn't know that there's a whole there's hundreds
- 44:29Speaker 3: of people of shows that I have thousands of views,
- 44:34Speaker 3: I mean relevant not of views of stuff that again
- 44:37Speaker 3: you mentioned power, you mentioned Wu Tang, you mentioned like
- 44:40Speaker 3: people who have done this for years and years and
- 44:42Speaker 3: years on end enough that the show is to run
- 44:44Speaker 3: and somebody.
- 44:45Speaker 4: Watching it's there's a large contingents, a large group.
- 44:48Speaker 3: We're talking about millions of viewers at this point, right,
- 44:51Speaker 3: So what is the difference. The only difference is this. Yeah,
- 44:57Speaker 3: whether or not it's well written and all, it doesn't matter.
- 45:00Speaker 3: You hate fucking Breaking at the end of when it
- 45:02Speaker 3: came to the end of Breaking Bad for example, Right,
- 45:04Speaker 3: I think it's incredibly well written.
- 45:05Speaker 1: It's to be well.
- 45:06Speaker 4: Written until you hate that character, I know.
- 45:09Speaker 2: But that's a different I just hate Walter White. I
- 45:12Speaker 2: just think it's still well written.
- 45:13Speaker 4: So do you don't think was well written.
- 45:17Speaker 1: No, I think Wu Tang is too.
- 45:18Speaker 4: It's okay, but white. And that's my point.
- 45:20Speaker 2: And that's this, This is my This is where I
- 45:23Speaker 2: would differentiate, Like I think Snowfall and Power are good.
- 45:30Speaker 2: I think the Wire is where you talk about prestige,
- 45:33Speaker 2: where you talk about all time great.
- 45:35Speaker 1: You know, I don't think.
- 45:38Speaker 2: The Lords because of a lot of because of racism, but
- 45:42Speaker 2: I but you know, historically, I think the Wire is
- 45:45Speaker 2: like you know, written directed at that everything is top tier.
- 45:51Speaker 2: Snowfall had the z selling, you know, make it being
- 45:54Speaker 2: a crack cocaine wizard.
- 45:56Speaker 1: It jumped it jumped the shark when he was showing
- 46:01Speaker 1: up as the cocaine with it. I was like, all right,
- 46:03Speaker 1: but you know, you guys, you got me. I mean,
- 46:08Speaker 1: it's just like Power.
- 46:09Speaker 2: It's like it's like when my man shoots two people
- 46:12Speaker 2: a week, it's jumping the shark.
- 46:14Speaker 1: But I'm there every week. You know, what about what
- 46:18Speaker 1: about Forever on Netflix? I thought that was I thought
- 46:22Speaker 1: that was terrific that there was some prom stuff that
- 46:25Speaker 1: was triggering towards me to me, but I got over it.
- 46:29Speaker 1: I'm forty five. I got over it. You know, I'm
- 46:31Speaker 1: still on whatever but I thought Wood Harris plays the
- 46:35Speaker 1: dad in that fucking exquisite. Actually see him almost all
- 46:44Speaker 1: the time he's playing a thug guy or he's just
- 46:46Speaker 1: kind of whatever it is. But just to see him
- 46:49Speaker 1: with nuance to be It's not like he's never had
- 46:52Speaker 1: he's always been great. But this role was just like
- 46:57Speaker 1: like Jazz. He was smooth, he was he was uh,
- 47:02Speaker 1: he checked his wife elegantly, like when he when they
- 47:06Speaker 1: had issues with their son, and he he was vulnerable,
- 47:10Speaker 1: he was caring, funny, just like it was a fantastic
- 47:17Speaker 1: He should be considered war Yeah. The the woman who
- 47:23Speaker 1: played let me get her name. I like to say
- 47:25Speaker 1: these actors' names. Uh. The woman who played the mom,
- 47:29Speaker 1: Karen Pittman, who was on The Wonderful. Yeah, And you
- 47:39Speaker 1: see these like these these teen shows where you never
- 47:44Speaker 1: see the parents. In this one, it's like it's black
- 47:48Speaker 1: and it's it's just it's just fucking black and it's
- 47:53Speaker 1: great and it's like, I don't know, it's just it's
- 47:58Speaker 1: it's I watched that over the court, So let me
- 48:00Speaker 1: see what's up with this new show. Locked In. This
- 48:04Speaker 1: is forever on Netflix, Forever on Netflix. Just really talent
- 48:07Speaker 1: and oh yeah, I love The Morning the Show. It's fantastic.
- 48:12Speaker 1: It's it's really good, and you know, people will try
- 48:15Speaker 1: to hate on it, but it's, you know, lovey Simone.
- 48:18Speaker 1: I want to finish this, but I want to know.
- 48:20Speaker 1: I want to talk a little bit about Ironheart too.
- 48:22Speaker 1: I forgot we forgot to talk about that.
- 48:24Speaker 4: No, what did you have to say about Ironheart?
- 48:26Speaker 1: I think it's I think it's just bullshit that they
- 48:29Speaker 1: they're not promoting it like they should be. And I
- 48:31Speaker 1: think with the success of Centers, I think they put
- 48:35Speaker 1: out that Ryan Coogler video, so hopefully people will watch.
- 48:38Speaker 1: I'm going to watch. But what did you think of
- 48:40Speaker 1: the trailer?
- 48:41Speaker 4: What did you think of the trailer?
- 48:42Speaker 1: This is this has been I think people were saying
- 48:43Speaker 1: it was kind of old. It was it seemed cool.
- 48:46Speaker 1: I wasn't the biggest fan of the suit in general
- 48:50Speaker 1: in Wakanda forever. I liked the suit that was in
- 48:53Speaker 1: the comic book because I didn't I did read the
- 48:56Speaker 1: I think it's like to both. Did she do both?
- 49:02Speaker 1: I don't believe something she did the first one. Did
- 49:05Speaker 1: she I'm gonna have to look on my wall.
- 49:09Speaker 2: You're right, I think she did the first iron Heart comic. Ever,
- 49:12Speaker 2: right she lost that book. I think, so.
- 49:14Speaker 1: Whatever, I love because it just it just stylistically, it
- 49:17Speaker 1: was just kind of sleek and it looks smaller. I
- 49:21Speaker 1: have both action figures, but yeah, both the action figures. Whatever,
- 49:28Speaker 1: nervous listen.
- 49:29Speaker 3: I think that's on perfect because, like, you know how
- 49:31Speaker 3: even though yes, this is in the comics, they have
- 49:33Speaker 3: to build up to that, like, yeah, they're mimicking in
- 49:36Speaker 3: some ways. They mimicking how the Iron Manason did when
- 49:39Speaker 3: he came out with the you know, the random still
- 49:41Speaker 3: still ten cansuit and then it like it reiterated yeah,
- 49:47Speaker 3: And I think eventually we're going to see the colors.
- 49:50Speaker 3: But I do agree with you that they have not
- 49:52Speaker 3: and I don't know what's been changing lately, but I
- 49:54Speaker 3: also feel like a lot of people felt that they
- 49:55Speaker 3: have not given it no promotion. There is some alleged
- 49:58Speaker 3: thing that in the industry they're changed now where if
- 50:00Speaker 3: it's a TV show, they're only giving it like a
- 50:02Speaker 3: thirty day like promo period. But it's stupid and ridiculous,
- 50:08Speaker 3: and I'm like, why is it happening now, because like
- 50:11Speaker 3: just last year they was going like.
- 50:13Speaker 4: For ninety days for Agatha all along and other people.
- 50:16Speaker 3: Like like they give so much elsewhere and then and
- 50:19Speaker 3: and ACA was great, but still like the one time
- 50:22Speaker 3: this shit come out that.
- 50:23Speaker 4: We didn't hear shit about it and literally.
- 50:26Speaker 3: Just heard about it two days ago, at least for
- 50:27Speaker 3: the people who are not already in the industry.
- 50:29Speaker 4: And it's kind of maddening.
- 50:32Speaker 3: But Bet, I mean, you thought the trailer wasn't even
- 50:35Speaker 3: that good.
- 50:36Speaker 2: No, yeah, but it's one of those things where I
- 50:39Speaker 2: thought it was just not that it wasn't good. I
- 50:42Speaker 2: just thought it was like, Okay, I've seen this before
- 50:45Speaker 2: so many times out with Marvel, and that's like how
- 50:47Speaker 2: you felt about Thunderbolts is how I felt about it.
- 50:49Speaker 2: Like even Thunderbolts were the same way, Like I enjoyed Thunderbolts,
- 50:53Speaker 2: but afterwards, you know, after you walk out, you're like.
- 50:55Speaker 1: Okay, that was cool. Yeah, and you know, and it
- 50:59Speaker 1: was like, yeah, it got back.
- 51:00Speaker 2: To the formula that it worked for them twenty years ago. Yeah,
- 51:07Speaker 2: And that's how I felt watching the Ironhart trailer. And
- 51:09Speaker 2: a lot of people, you know, and I knew they would,
- 51:12Speaker 2: you know, jump down my throat because I posted that,
- 51:15Speaker 2: you know, I didn't like it, and people were like, man,
- 51:18Speaker 2: I'm like Sam, like, objectively, this trailer is not that
- 51:21Speaker 2: good to me. If it was, I would be all
- 51:24Speaker 2: over it. But I just thought this wasn't that good.
- 51:26Speaker 2: And I'm gonna watch the show. I'm gonna you know,
- 51:29Speaker 2: review every episode and hopefully, you know, put some shine
- 51:32Speaker 2: on it where you know, it gets some more love,
- 51:34Speaker 2: and if it is good, I'm gonna be streaming to
- 51:36Speaker 2: the High Hills that it's great.
- 51:38Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I thought.
- 51:39Speaker 2: I didn't think Andrew was dooming the first starter, you know,
- 51:41Speaker 2: I was like, eh, and then it became one of
- 51:43Speaker 2: my favorite shows all time, so I'm definitely gonna give
- 51:46Speaker 2: it a chance. But I just did not think that
- 51:48Speaker 2: trailer was it.
- 51:49Speaker 3: I do agree that the trailer was a bit disappointing
- 51:52Speaker 3: for me. It was just like I was so happy
- 51:53Speaker 3: to finally see something.
- 51:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I was too official.
- 51:56Speaker 2: Yeah, but then it's like, come on, man, I can't
- 52:00Speaker 2: It's like we can't be happy for scraps.
- 52:02Speaker 1: You know. And that's how I felt with that.
- 52:04Speaker 2: That just felt like Scraps, Like, yeah, I don't know,
- 52:08Speaker 2: Anthony what's his name? Is cool, but Anthony Ramos, I'm
- 52:12Speaker 2: just not convinced on him. You know, and yeah, like
- 52:15Speaker 2: he hasn't done it from yet, but maybe this. I've
- 52:17Speaker 2: never seen him be a villain either, so maybe this
- 52:19Speaker 2: would be the warm where I'm like, oh.
- 52:21Speaker 3: He's usually like the good guy or the guy for
- 52:23Speaker 3: last time I seen him and the thing was Twister.
- 52:27Speaker 1: You know, I thought he was to be the villain
- 52:29Speaker 1: in that and then he turned into like the well.
- 52:31Speaker 4: The movie was.
- 52:31Speaker 1: It was the kind of he was.
- 52:33Speaker 4: He was kind of a villain in that, but he
- 52:37Speaker 4: was kind of a villain.
- 52:38Speaker 7: But he turned it around, I thought, right, kind of
- 52:43Speaker 7: redemption art kind of sort yeah, but the nigga was
- 52:47Speaker 7: ended up being the bad guy.
- 52:48Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, he was like the only Latin character they
- 52:53Speaker 3: ended up the bad guy.
- 52:54Speaker 1: So you know, yeah, damn that check clear though that movie.
- 52:58Speaker 4: Was hilarious, But back to my heart, I'm want you then.
- 53:03Speaker 3: I Am going to give it all the support and
- 53:06Speaker 3: coverage and everything. Could they have done better, obviously, but
- 53:09Speaker 3: I'm also just like, this shit has been sitting on
- 53:11Speaker 3: the shelf for so long, and it's just like, how
- 53:13Speaker 3: do you like they could.
- 53:15Speaker 4: Do it for everything else?
- 53:16Speaker 3: How do they revive or bring life to something that's
- 53:19Speaker 3: been sitting around that technically is stale, right, and you
- 53:22Speaker 3: can say they have all projects, projects be done for
- 53:24Speaker 3: years and we see it after the fact, but like
- 53:26Speaker 3: it's a certain level of energy and fervor that they
- 53:28Speaker 3: give to the promo into it where it doesn't matter
- 53:30Speaker 3: if they did it ten years ago.
- 53:32Speaker 4: You're still like, oh shit, this shit looks like this shit.
- 53:35Speaker 2: It's just and I hate to say this, but it
- 53:37Speaker 2: just feels like they they feel like they know what
- 53:40Speaker 2: they have on their hands.
- 53:42Speaker 4: Like to the negative.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Yes, I'm sorry, but it's like, you know, and I
- 53:47Speaker 1: don't want to be the one.
- 53:48Speaker 3: But I mean he ain't directed, but Kogler produced, the
- 53:49Speaker 3: executive produced it not.
- 53:51Speaker 1: I mean, that's why they're pushing him now. Yeah, that's
- 53:53Speaker 1: why they pushing him now.
- 53:54Speaker 2: But the executive produce means absolutely nothing in Hollywood, to
- 53:57Speaker 2: be honest, you know, other than you put your money
- 53:58Speaker 2: behind it and then you put your name.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Ain't bind it. The quality could be your name.
- 54:02Speaker 3: Being put in behind it, like you're not gonna writing,
- 54:04Speaker 3: gonna put his name behind anything.
- 54:06Speaker 2: No, and I think it's gonna be I don't think
- 54:08Speaker 2: it's But like that trailer makes me worried more than
- 54:12Speaker 2: anything because it because it's like if you know where
- 54:16Speaker 2: is it, then like you gotta have something where I'm like,
- 54:19Speaker 2: oh ship And there was nothing in that treader roll
- 54:22Speaker 2: like oh you know, just like all right, I'm gonna
- 54:25Speaker 2: watch this.
- 54:25Speaker 1: But you know what I mean, you we we accused
- 54:29Speaker 1: him of putting all that good stuff in the trailer.
- 54:32Speaker 3: Well listen, maybe this is classic Marvel where they lie
- 54:34Speaker 3: to us. Remember that's that's usually works with our favorites, Like.
- 54:37Speaker 8: They still okay, I'm gonna give it a shot at
- 54:42Speaker 8: some of the best stuff in Thunderbolts were stelling those
- 54:44Speaker 8: chairs like how many episodes?
- 54:47Speaker 1: Is it six or something? Damn, I don't know.
- 54:51Speaker 4: It is short because it's considered a mini series.
- 54:53Speaker 1: Damn yeh oh this is getting m hm, please don't.
- 55:01Speaker 4: Six episodes? And whoa and the first three is coming
- 55:05Speaker 4: out June twenty fourth.
- 55:06Speaker 1: God damn.
- 55:08Speaker 3: So half of the season is coming out day one,
- 55:12Speaker 3: m three days.
- 55:13Speaker 1: Before my comedy special tape in that coveyat you have
- 55:20Speaker 1: time to write yourself for re Rewilliams conundrum, Well, how
- 55:26Speaker 1: old is another edits coming went to Cornell smart, smart
- 55:36Speaker 1: black woman.
- 55:39Speaker 4: Yeah, she's she's grown.
- 55:41Speaker 2: I get it there, all grown, Miss Steimefeld's but I've
- 55:44Speaker 2: been watching her since True Grit.
- 55:46Speaker 1: It's never going to be that. That sounds like you're
- 55:48Speaker 1: like that's on some Wilmer Valdorama ship. Like That's what
- 55:51Speaker 1: I'm saying is never Yeah, I'm never marking it off. No,
- 55:54Speaker 1: I'll never definite.
- 55:55Speaker 2: I'm saying I'll never look at her in any way
- 55:57Speaker 2: because she will always be you know, yeah, no, I
- 56:00Speaker 2: mean in Center.
- 56:01Speaker 1: No, I'm not.
- 56:03Speaker 2: I would give her you know, in Center she left
- 56:05Speaker 2: the mate. She's a grown woman, but you know she's
- 56:07Speaker 2: a young woman.
- 56:07Speaker 1: You know.
- 56:08Speaker 2: It's like that, ain't no, you know, I'm you know,
- 56:10Speaker 2: oh yeah, yeah, I'm really looking forward to Ironhart.
- 56:14Speaker 4: I am too.
- 56:15Speaker 1: After that edit, it took everything else to be just
- 56:17Speaker 1: said out. Yeah, we'll out. Guy. You guys are pros.
- 56:23Speaker 4: Luna, I'm so sorry chopping up this episode.
- 56:28Speaker 1: This is gonna come out.
- 56:31Speaker 3: I'm thinking, no, no, no, no, no, no, Luna is
- 56:34Speaker 3: a gee.
- 56:34Speaker 4: I'm just saying, damn.
- 56:36Speaker 3: Okay, we talked about a lot, but we are coming
- 56:39Speaker 3: to the end. But before you go, we do have
- 56:42Speaker 3: to do a brap segment.
- 56:46Speaker 4: But are you ready?
- 56:47Speaker 1: Let's do it.
- 56:48Speaker 3: If you had no choice but to run, for office
- 56:52Speaker 3: with a comic book villain or in this case MCU villain,
- 56:55Speaker 3: who would you choose? And why with an MCU villain,
- 56:59Speaker 3: We're dc N whatever you like, it has to be
- 57:02Speaker 3: a villain who is uh green Goblin's dad.
- 57:08Speaker 4: Norman Osborne, Norman Osborne, I.
- 57:10Speaker 1: Would I would run with him because he's smart. You
- 57:16Speaker 1: know what.
- 57:17Speaker 3: I'm thinking about it because I'm still stuck on your
- 57:19Speaker 3: Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider Man animation that was out on
- 57:22Speaker 3: Disney Plus a few months ago, and I'm thinking of
- 57:25Speaker 3: the black Norman Osbourne and well, yeah, he's black in
- 57:29Speaker 3: that one, and he got his finger waves is going
- 57:31Speaker 3: real strong, So that's why I was But no, that's
- 57:33Speaker 3: actually it's it's actually it was an incredible animated series.
- 57:37Speaker 4: So I'm actually looking forward to the sequel. But the
- 57:39Speaker 4: next season that's.
- 57:40Speaker 1: Not the one where the Spider Man guy Peter Parker
- 57:43Speaker 1: was racist or said some racist ship? Which one was that?
- 57:45Speaker 3: That was the one that was the one, the one
- 57:47Speaker 3: that the one that voices him, that was the one.
- 57:52Speaker 1: You know, Well, I guess Tatiana still goes to Target.
- 57:56Speaker 1: I don't.
- 57:59Speaker 3: Actually the last week. Yeah, then no, I have not
- 58:03Speaker 3: gone since Ship January.
- 58:06Speaker 1: It was our first time.
- 58:07Speaker 4: But yeah, yeah, I haven't gone to January.
- 58:11Speaker 3: When did you realize that you were a nerd or
- 58:15Speaker 3: into fandom.
- 58:17Speaker 1: I think I just kind of realized it when I
- 58:20Speaker 1: think when I when I started dating a lot, I
- 58:24Speaker 1: don't know some women that they're just like, you really
- 58:30Speaker 1: like movies. I'm like, yeah, that's fair.
- 58:35Speaker 4: It could you could have. You could not even known
- 58:37Speaker 4: until just now.
- 58:38Speaker 1: God, God, I think I really do think it's it's
- 58:43Speaker 1: it's almost like when other people tell you, it's almost
- 58:46Speaker 1: like since the advent of social media and that comes out,
- 58:50Speaker 1: you kind of find your tribe. Yeah, And I want
- 58:53Speaker 1: to say, like you it might have been like because
- 58:56Speaker 1: you're kind of in the real world, you're kind of
- 58:58Speaker 1: just bumping around and then the Internet, you know, it
- 59:01Speaker 1: can be acsessible. But I would say, like, you know,
- 59:03Speaker 1: finding people like like rod On, listening to him on
- 59:09Speaker 1: listening to him do guest calls on The Morning Jones,
- 59:13Speaker 1: which might have been two thousand and eight or nine ish, Okay,
- 59:19Speaker 1: surround there, yeah, twenty eleven is something like that, and
- 59:23Speaker 1: then just doing listening to his podcast, doing the podcast,
- 59:26Speaker 1: finding people like oh, these this is these people are
- 59:32Speaker 1: similar to me, So really, I guess, like, I don't know,
- 59:38Speaker 1: that's a great questions. It's deceptively it's acceptively simple, but
- 59:43Speaker 1: not yes, it's not a simple question.
- 59:46Speaker 4: Yeah, wekay.
- 59:48Speaker 1: And then if somebody calls your nerd in sixth grade
- 59:50Speaker 1: and punches you the bully, I think you knew then bruh.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: Maybe you're right. But I played, but I did. I
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: played sports and stuff I played. But I'm trying to think, yeah, well,
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: how do you let them punch you? Men? You should
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: do it a girl. But I would get excited to
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: go to the movies when I was a kid. It
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: was it was you knew. Yeah, there was a reference
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: that I had for the movie theater. So it's still that.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: It's been like that for a long when I was
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: a kid, because my uncle used to have Star Wars
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: on laser disc and all that. We used to play.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: Kid which character's death in any medium you know, books, comics,
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: move Optimus Prime. Oh man, we are not the second
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: you know. It's not that it's it's a great one.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: But now okay, because let's keep it real. Because for me,
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: like because Tatanna sent me the clip from our interview
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: last week and she was like, and I was like,
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: you know, because like I was that no, no, no,
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: I'm a little older. But the Optimist death was big.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: But Prow and smoke coming out that nigga's mouth when
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: Megatron shot.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: Him in the chest and the ship with more devastating
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: for me.
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: You know, I'm like, I don't know what the fuck
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: you're talking about.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: Period before Optimists just chilled.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: At the very beginning of the movie, Megatron busts in
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: on the ship and there's like four or five prime
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: classic autobots on the ship, Prow, Brawn, I think Iron,
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: how Iron hode catches into the face and it's like
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: these are classic, you know. And Prow was like, my dude,
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: you know, you know he was a cop. I love
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: Prow And my man gets shot in the chest and
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: smoke comes out his mouth, like it is so disturbing.
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: Well, first of how are you gonna tell him? What's
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: his for me?
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: For me? For me? Tatiana goes target, you go to target,
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: like the Cop things Transformer. I was also hurt when
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: he died, so I can't think pragmatic about movies.
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: But all right, all right, Chris, So it was Optimists
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: when his head rolled to the side.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I was six years old, you know, I had
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: to to it is cold blooded boy. I can't lie.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: I remember crying and my mother was like, oh my god.
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: Oh damn no I that whole sequence. It was like
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: I couldn't believe it, you know, because like you said,
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: I was like, none of these niggas had ever died.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: And then Megatron just wop wop.
- 1:02:29Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: No, it was a lot in that.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: When he rolled over that in Septacon's head, I felt
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: so terrible, like you know, he.
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: Was see I wasn't around.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Younger, Yeah, yeah she is.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: And it's like, no, this this nigga optimist murders like
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: several Decepticons right before he gets stealed. But yeah, one
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: of them is this incept The coon is trying to
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: crawl back on the bridge and this nigga crushes his
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: head flat.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: Like Roll worried about the murder of Decepticons.
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: Bro, All life is precious, all lives matter.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: Wow, it would have happened to the show. What happened?
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: Oh my goodness.
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: Okay, wait, I'm not saying I was worried about it.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: I'll say that it was disturbing too. You know, I
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: had a heart Chris. You know how old were you
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: when you saw it?
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: I think like seven eight? Yeah, who were the same eyes? Yeah,
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: eighty seven is when it came out. I have I
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: have the Yeah. No, that sh was but it was
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: all it was.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: It was iron Braun, my light braun, and that man
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: just got shot in the chest to sell over.
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: You know, I gotta watch see I don't really remember all.
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: I just remember that Doptamus. But it's been a couple
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: of years since I've seen the seen the movie. I
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: know I dreamed by hardboy sad there it is. Shout
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: out to Dirk Diggler. I don't even know about that.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: Have you ever seen Boogie Nights? I can.
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: I came in during Beast Wars and all this other
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: shit you talking about.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: But if you've seen Boogie Nights, Tatiana is like twenty
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: one years old. I'm not twenty myself, but I don't
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: know what you guys are talking.
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: We we gotta get I only have like two more questions.
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: You gotta finish this guy. If you can have one superpower,
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: what would it be? And don't tell me because in
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: twenty twenty, you interviewed or you auditioned for a certain role.
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: Funny you should say that after not booking apart on
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: the and Clan show. I wait, you tried out for
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: the Dead Ass?
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: Are you dead Ass?
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: I read for that for Biggie, which was like not good.
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: I was like, I'm not getting this, like twenty three
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: year old break for a couple. Yeah, I'm not gonna
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: gonna their their version of whoever he was, but superpower.
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: It'd be cool to fly.
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: Do you want to feel the freedom? Yeah, I'd like
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: to feel that the winning your hair.
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
