- 0:00NFL Week 4 comes to a close, and man, oh man, the NFL
- 0:03is still quite drunk. Karl-Anthony Towns, it doesn't matter if
- 0:07you're a New York City hero, you're on the trade block for some fucking reason.
- 0:11And of course, of course, lanterns.
- 0:15Holy shit, lanterns. Hal Jordan forever.
- 0:19We're amongst friends. We got sports to talk about. This is The Regulars. In brightest
- 0:23day and darkest night, we will be
- 0:27talking about fucking football.
- 0:30Cheers, Cody.
- 0:38Welcome, my friends. We got a long night ahead of us. Lots to talk about,
- 0:42a lot of things to pontificate about, a lot of things to bitch about,
- 0:44a lot of things to complain about. We got to make fun of some people
- 0:47in our industry because holy shit, Bill Simmons just can't help himself from being a
- 0:51misogynist. Fuck, dude, it is. I'm not gonna lie, Media Corner is all just the
- 0:54worst white men Boston has produced in our industry.
- 0:58Basically, my entire course correct— I exist to course correct. You're trying
- 1:03to fix Boston for all of the people we have exported out of the fucking
- 1:06city. It's a bit rough. There's stuff we like, though. Let's be honest. There's some
- 1:10stuff that we like that we're going to talk like. There is. We're not all
- 1:13negative. No, today's actually like surprisingly a
- 1:17really positive show because there's something you and I both completely agree on. And of
- 1:20course, it'll be Pop Culture Corner at the end of the show. Fucking Lanterns is
- 1:24not just a good show, not just a good comic book show. It is just
- 1:28an incredible drama series that was so good to watch, and I'm looking very
- 1:32forward to breaking it all down with you. The things we loved, things we might
- 1:35not have loved. I'm— because listen, I didn't think it was perfect. There were things
- 1:38I might have changed, but hindsight is always 20/20, and fuck did I love this
- 1:42series. I loved it. Uh, I miss it already. Oh my God, I need season
- 1:452 so bad. I hate when my shows end. I need more. I need so
- 1:49much more of this show. I'm really excited to talk to you about it.
- 1:51But by the way, in my Substack chat last night, you know I do my
- 1:54Monday night football chat. Like, so I, I do the Substack paid subscribers,
- 1:58everybody can come in my chat and we just, we did, we hang. And at
- 2:02one point, you know, uh, NFL conversation was waning and my mom
- 2:06pops, my mom just slides in and goes, anybody,
- 2:09uh, watch Lanterns? And like 7 people,
- 2:13I saw in the like Discord, like 7 people start typing immediately
- 2:17and everybody was like, holy shit, whatever. So the last like 15 minutes of my,
- 2:20my convo, which totally great because we always sidetrack,
- 2:23was like, fucking Lanterns. So it was very funny. We're ready for
- 2:27the convo. I'm very excited for the convo because full transparency, and here's gonna
- 2:31be my biggest complaint that I'm going to have about Lanterns, has nothing to do
- 2:34with the show. DC Comics nerds,
- 2:37shut the fuck up. That's never happening. The most embarrassing
- 2:41fandom that exists on planet Earth. You know how I know that? I'm a DC
- 2:45fucking fanatic. I can't wait to fucking yell at all of you fucking spoiled-ass
- 2:50children. Really excited to talk to you about that. Tanya, let's just get right to
- 2:54the sports because Monday Night Football was— you know what's so funny?
- 2:57I saw about a week and a half ago, uh, a very massive dipshit in
- 3:01our industry named Mad Dog Christopher Russo, uh, wanted to go on TV and bitch
- 3:05and complain and bemoan about the fact that we have all of these games with,
- 3:08uh, the, with the, with the, with the team in Atlanta. Why, why do
- 3:11we gotta see Atlanta in primetime? Have you seen the last 2 weeks?
- 3:14That's why we got fucking Atlanta in primetime. Headline number
- 3:191. Uh, yeah,
- 3:22dude, the Falcons are good right now,
- 3:25and they walloped the Saints. They ruined that little party that
- 3:29New Orleans had. They really did. Kind of a bummer for them, but, uh,
- 3:32listen, uh, you know, it was the 20-year anniversary of them returning
- 3:36to the Super Bowl. Oh my God, you got this,
- 3:40you got this, you got this. You're amongst friends, don't worry about
- 3:44it. The Superdome after— where
- 3:48the Super Bowl was held. Hurricane Katrina. Yes. Not a funny
- 3:52thing. Not at all. But I really just struggled through that and
- 3:56I thought it was really well done. You could tell the crowd was really into
- 3:58it. My friend in Louisiana was talking about how, like, the energy was just really
- 4:01big in New Orleans yesterday. I loved that they had the same woman come into
- 4:05the national anthem. It was an emotional thing,
- 4:09but the Falcons didn't give a fuck, nor should they, because they're division rivals and
- 4:13they came to do their job. They won, uh, 45-24.
- 4:16Beating. It was a beating. And you know,
- 4:20the Falcons are just like a cool team.
- 4:24They are like Penix and the B. Robinsons. And like, dude, so I,
- 4:28I've learned through from Falcons, um, like listening
- 4:31to Falcons locker room video that they go by Bijan
- 4:36and I think B. Robinson or B. Rob or something
- 4:39like that. So like, that's how they distinguish them. Works for me. Um,
- 4:43or like Brian Robb. I forget what it was. It doesn't matter. What matters
- 4:46is that Atlanta is leading the league in B.
- 4:50Robinsons. They are leading the league in B. Robinsons by a lot. They combined
- 4:54for 5 rushing touchdowns. That's like the most that, uh, the Falcons have
- 4:57had like ever in a single game. Um, Michael Penix didn't
- 5:01have to do a ton as a passer, but he ran the offense
- 5:05the way it's supposed to to be run. Like, that's— listen, both the Robinsons were
- 5:08on the team when Michael Penix wasn't, and that offense looked like
- 5:12trash. Like, this is a Penix effect, uh, and you can tell that
- 5:16Stefanski is really leaning into being able to scheme for this talent.
- 5:20It's beyond the B. Robinsons. It's Drake London. It's Michael Penix.
- 5:24It's everybody that they've got going. Kyle Pitts didn't have much. They didn't need a
- 5:27ton of the wide receiving game last night. Not at all. You know what's funny
- 5:29about that? Michael Penix Jr. had -2 yards rushing, so they That just shows
- 5:33you when he had like a 127 QBR— and I know QBR is not the
- 5:37end-all be-all, it's just a little thing I can use as a barometer— he had
- 5:40a fucking great night and none of it was his legs. No,
- 5:43uh, no, he is— he has been an excellent passer in these 2 games,
- 5:47like, you know, regardless. And I love an offense that knows
- 5:50what's working, what's cooking. And like, I just— I find
- 5:54that to be so inspiring that Michael Penix is able to say like, all right,
- 5:57these, these are the guys who are getting the run And, you know, Bijan is
- 6:02ostensibly the— he's supposed to be the best talent on that team. He is the
- 6:06best talent on that offense. But Brian Robinson was the one
- 6:09with the extra touchdown. Yeah. So, I mean, that's a nightmare to
- 6:13try to fucking scheme against. No hate to the Saints, who are the best bad
- 6:17team I've ever seen in my life. They are. They are a bad team
- 6:21that is like really fun to watch. It's crazy because they play teams pretty hard.
- 6:24Last night seemed like it was more of an outlier than anything else. Because the
- 6:28last, you know, what, 3 weeks they've been playing teams really hard, only got 1
- 6:31victory out of it. But yeah, they've been playing their asses off. And Tyler Shuck
- 6:35has been a borderline revelation up until last night. No, you can see where his
- 6:38flaws are, and those flaws have showed, especially late in games.
- 6:41But at the end of the day, they are a fun, interesting team and they're
- 6:44also bad. Like they just aren't winning games and that's just what you're
- 6:48supposed to do. We got one of our— we put out a
- 6:52post ahead of today on Instagram and Threads to ask people to submit
- 6:56their questions and topic suggestions for today to kind of
- 7:00like thread throughout the show.
- 7:03And, uh, @jsmart_, his name
- 7:07is Mal, said, is it time to start hopping on the Bijan Robinson for MVP
- 7:12campaign? I'm not gonna lie to you, like, here's the thing. We, we know it's
- 7:15a quarterback award, right? Um, that's what it has been. The last, uh,
- 7:18non-quarterback to win the award, I think, was Adrian Peterson. And what was that,
- 7:212000 2007, 2008? I think it was 2012.
- 7:24Might have been that late. Okay, well, it's just, it's just what the award has
- 7:28kind of turned into, for better or for worse. I've been
- 7:32kind of banging the drum very loudly, especially that Saquon year. I really
- 7:36wanted Saquon to win that MVP. Alas, I believe
- 7:40that was Josh Allen that got it that year. And, and funny enough, Josh Allen
- 7:43shouldn't have won it over Lamar, let alone Saquon. Yeah. Um, I, I'm more
- 7:47than willing to get on this just because also at this point of the year
- 7:50what quarterback's actually standing out. Josh Allen's had 2 shit
- 7:54weeks in a row. Lamar is sadly hurt again right now.
- 7:58Um, you know, it's gonna be a real interesting year if these running backs can
- 8:02stay healthy, because both of the B— if that's the case, both B. Robinsons are
- 8:05in this conversation right now. Yeah, maybe they do the dual. Um,
- 8:09you know, because remember back in the day, they could— they
- 8:12couldn't just give Steve McNair his MVP. They had to co-MVP
- 8:17it. With Peyton Manning. Sure did. Uh, they've since decided they can give Black
- 8:22quarterbacks MVPs on their own. Um, but maybe if it's a running back,
- 8:25they'll decide it's a dual threat situation. I, I will say
- 8:29it is tough. Like, Brian Robinson's making it tough to say Bijan Robinson's
- 8:33the MVP. It's crazy. Like, so it— that is, uh, that is difficult. I,
- 8:37I completely agree that it is shaping up right now to be
- 8:41a, like, non-quarterback year if we've seen one. The problem is
- 8:46Brock Purdy's playing amazing. Real case. Yes, he is. And it's not
- 8:49a problem. But I like, you know, if there's— if it's between an
- 8:54absolutely electric running back or somebody
- 8:57else and then a quarterback and there's anybody, any quarterback
- 9:02that can make a case, they're going to give it to him. No question.
- 9:03So I would say probably like if we were to look at the odds,
- 9:05like Brock Purdy is probably the odds leader right now. He was at one point.
- 9:08So I'm assuming because he's still winning at this clip, I'm assuming that's the case.
- 9:11He was another name that should be thrown in the mix that definitely won't be.
- 9:14And it definitely won't last all season. But Kirk Cousins is leading the league with
- 9:18touchdowns, and he's only got— live in a world— I know, I know you don't
- 9:20want to live in this world. I know you don't want to live in this
- 9:22world, but we have to acknowledge it's pretty crazy. I can live in a world
- 9:24where Kirk Cousins like wins. I don't mind that, like wins, goes to the
- 9:28Super Bowl. I truly don't care. He— I can't live in
- 9:31a Kirk Cousins MVP world. Me neither. I can't believe it's real, but he is
- 9:34playing that good right now. That being said, the other running back that I would
- 9:37throw into this list, because I just watched it firsthand, 177 yards, and I'm sure
- 9:41we'll get to it, Dude, Kenneth Walker III is just fucking nuts. He is just—
- 9:45he is going absolutely batshit. Feeling very running back.
- 9:48It is right now. Everybody's looking very running backy and it's
- 9:52feeling very running back. Oh, I love running, running backy. Yeah, yeah. Christian McCaffrey should
- 9:56also be on that list. He doesn't look very running backy. No, but— and that—
- 9:59but he is. He is extremely running backy. He's very runny.
- 10:03Um, all right, let's go to the game that you and I watched together
- 10:07in the pool. Yes, we did. Uh, kind of like
- 10:10with our mouths agape. I couldn't believe this was fucking real.
- 10:14And now I am a little worried that your team is
- 10:18going to start going on a run. I don't want them to. My number 2
- 10:20team. Sorry, your second favorite team from your hometown,
- 10:24because again, you're trying to fix Boston sports. I'm trying. Yeah. Um,
- 10:28we watched the Patriots beat the Bills 29-26,
- 10:31uh, sealed by a game-ending pick
- 10:35from Josh Allen. Um,
- 10:38and after his, like, you know, very problematic
- 10:43turnover-laden win against the Chargers, you and I expected
- 10:47him to maybe do a bounce back. That's what I thought. The Patriots, not that—
- 10:50and I said, you know, they have a great defense, but they're missing Christian Gonzalez.
- 10:53They're missing, you know, they're— if they're missing the pieces that they need,
- 10:57we figured it was going to be maybe, if not a blowout, a bounce back
- 11:02game for Josh Allen. That's really not what we got. We got
- 11:05the Drake Maye bounce-back game. Not what we fucking expected. Definitely didn't expect it.
- 11:09Not only did we get that, but the Patriots defense still played really well without
- 11:132 of their best players. Ugly first 3
- 11:18weeks. And then the Patriots produced 405 yards and 29 points,
- 11:21both season highs, after only scoring 26 points combined
- 11:25in their previous 2 games.
- 11:28I am at the point right now where I'm
- 11:32a little concerned about Joe Brady and this,
- 11:36this offense and what they're doing with Josh Allen. Tell me why. Well, I have
- 11:39a theory on why. Okay. I would love to see if it is what you
- 11:42think. Now, I, I've always, I've always mentioned this a few times about the Joe
- 11:46Brady of it all. Joe Brady, and I apologize the expression, but because he hasn't
- 11:49failed, quote unquote, but it's been a very fail upwards type of thing. He is
- 11:53just kind of up updated his job year after year because somebody
- 11:56else gets fired. To his credit, we see a lot with these white guy OCs.
- 11:59Very true. They, they sort of just move up
- 12:03the rung that way. But his, his like
- 12:06ascension has been really, really fast, to the point
- 12:10where we are aware that he is Josh Allen's guy. He was the quarterback coach,
- 12:13then of course the offensive coordinator gets fired, he moves into the offensive coordinator,
- 12:17then the head coach gets fired, and now he's the new head coach. And by
- 12:20the way, this is a head coach when they're supposedly interviewing other head
- 12:23coaches for a very coveted job. And instead it just goes in-house
- 12:26to a guy that is Josh Allen's guy. Yeah. Who is clearly, in my opinion,
- 12:31just giving the ball to Josh Allen as much as humanly possible.
- 12:34And I think that might be a problem. Yeah.
- 12:38I mean, it's— that's a— it's a simplification. It is a very oversimplification
- 12:42of it. But— but I do think that Joe
- 12:46Brady has aspirations of running a style of offense
- 12:51That is not and has never been Josh
- 12:55Allen's forte. Josh Allen at his best is
- 13:00employing a run-heavy offense that allows him to open up those deep passing
- 13:04lanes and utilizing his
- 13:07tight ends. And like, he plays
- 13:11like a powerhouse Cam Newton style offensive.
- 13:14So, you know, Cam was one of the best deep ball throwers in the league.
- 13:18Because he was a power runner. And so the,
- 13:22the threat of him and whoever, whatever running back he was playing in the backfield,
- 13:26being able to power through basically anything with designed runs,
- 13:30or even, you know, even when you're audibling out of it and just kind of
- 13:34rolling out and deciding you're going to run off the cuff, that would open up
- 13:36these deep passing lanes. And he was actually one of the best deep ball passers
- 13:40when he was healthy. That's Josh Allen at his at
- 13:44his best. And what Joe Brady's trying to do is force this
- 13:48sort of Matthew Stafford-style
- 13:52offensive passing attack on a dude who has
- 13:55proven what works for him. Yes, they— yes,
- 13:58there's stuff to clean up in that, but we know what, what works for Josh
- 14:02Allen. Oh yeah, they ran the ball only 20 times to
- 14:06the Patriots' 35 times. Now Drake May can run.
- 14:11Rhamondre and Trevion, good little running back duo they got.
- 14:14But Josh Allen and James Cook are like
- 14:19a level above that as a running duo. Why are you only
- 14:22running the ball 20 times when your passing attack is not fucking working?
- 14:27I don't understand that approach. 20 is
- 14:31low. It's not the lowest of the week by any means, but it's low in
- 14:34a game like that. Where you need to like run down the clock,
- 14:37establish some fucking like time of possession. I just don't fucking get it.
- 14:42And I'm concerned about what Joe Brady's vision is for this. We're not—
- 14:45we're going to talk about a team later on in the Chargers who also
- 14:49don't seem to have a vision for how to improve the situation around their,
- 14:52their quarterback. Um, so I don't think this is the worst version
- 14:56we've seen it, and the last 2 games are like could be fixed, but like
- 15:00I'm not, I'm not seeing a team that has improved over
- 15:04the Sean McDermott Bills. No, as of now, if anything, those first 3 games
- 15:08I was like, oh shit, this team's for real. These last 2 games I'm like,
- 15:10holy shit, there's like blood in the water. Like, what is going on here?
- 15:14They, they've looked— it's been extremely Dickensian considering
- 15:17the fact that it's very tale of 2 cities because one team looks like a
- 15:21juggernaut. And we even said it after week 2, like, holy fuck, the Bills are
- 15:24scary. Yeah, the Bills these last 2 weeks have looked anything but fucking scary.
- 15:27Those MVP overreactions, I mean, we joked about it, it's like We know nothing
- 15:31about these fucking teams. Truly. Week 1 or week 2, especially with a whole new
- 15:34plethora of coaches all throughout the league. Even the coaches that we know that were
- 15:38coaching already last year. Yeah. Like we didn't know whether to take the Raiders seriously.
- 15:41We didn't know what— like, I still can't believe we're taking the Raiders seriously,
- 15:44but we are. Yeah. And so like, yeah, there's a lot.
- 15:48There's a lot at play there. But we did.
- 15:52This was the first time and probably one of the only times that I,
- 15:55that I was enticed into actually watching football here because we had our event to
- 15:59go to afterwards. Um, and it— we had a little bit of streaming issues.
- 16:03Oh my God, you know what's funny? I, I firmly— I, I do
- 16:07think it had something to do with the heat because streaming has been okay ever
- 16:10since because the heat's gone down a little bit. And all my— you, you did
- 16:14a speed test here, everything was fucking fine except just all the streaming just wasn't
- 16:17working. Yeah, it had— LA, by the way, it worked was like resetting the TVs
- 16:21to reset the connection, which I think to that effect helped a little bit because
- 16:24like it's just waning and like it's Yeah, I'm telling you, it was
- 16:28a disaster, guys. But LA is a quarter mile from the sun this last week.
- 16:31It's been fucking nuts. But when the setup is setting up, it's great.
- 16:34Like everywhere, teams going, whatever. But my,
- 16:38my NFL Sundays are like, you look
- 16:42like you're in like a, like a lair. Yeah, you're in a command center.
- 16:44Yeah. Yeah. And so it was like, for me,
- 16:48I was like, where is everything happening? And I was so distracted.
- 16:51So that was— but we were locked in together for that and it was It
- 16:55was very, it was very good. It ended up being a really great time because
- 16:58we were— well, here's the thing. We were literally— we found a new spot,
- 17:01like in the pool, the best way to watch the games when the TV was
- 17:03working. Yeah. And we were just sitting there looking up like in awe.
- 17:06You know that scene in The Fountain where, where, where Hugh Jackman's like,
- 17:11and like the wind's blowing at him with the long hair? That was us watching
- 17:14the ending of this fucking game. We looked at each other and we were like,
- 17:17what? What is happening? We couldn't fucking believe
- 17:21this shit. It was, it was an unbelievable— honestly, I really got to give credit
- 17:25to the Patriots because I was I was ready to fucking dead and bury this
- 17:29team. So was I. And now it looks like they might be able to pull
- 17:32something out of the fire with AJ Brown eventually coming back. All right,
- 17:35um, Ravens, you know, my guy, um, on Instagram
- 17:40@t_a_sullivan, he said, can you talk about finding a magic healer of
- 17:44ankles? Oh, because fuck, dude, the Ravens won their game against the
- 17:48Titans. They dominated the first half. Lamar looked great. Zay Flowers is a motherfucking
- 17:53He's just a motherfucking G. Like, yeah, again, it's fucking killer.
- 17:56Like, uh, wide receiver 1, dude. Like, oh my God,
- 17:59I love— it's so rare that we get to see a wide receiver graduate
- 18:04from being like really good, a wide receiver 2, somebody that you know
- 18:07is great, but you, you know, he's no this or that. He's no Jefferson,
- 18:10he's no Ja'Marr, he's no whatever. It's very rare you see a wide receiver like
- 18:14this. And the thing that it's like reminding me so much of is somebody like
- 18:18Wes Welker. Oh yeah, that's a great fucking call. Finally get— you
- 18:21finally get schemed into it. All of a sudden Wes Welker's getting to having 1,400-yard
- 18:25seasons because he's got an MVP quarterback and a fucking offensive
- 18:29guy who's doing what he needs to be. Because I never thought he would be
- 18:32this. I never thought he would be this. It's incredible. I, I always thought he
- 18:35would be great and he would have like the opportunity to have— like he would
- 18:39always have moments. But, but I genuinely see a leap into
- 18:43a level, and it may be the scheming, it may be the offensive coordinator,
- 18:46it may be the head coaching. Um, but like regardless, it's fucking awesome.
- 18:50So like kudos to Zay Flowers. But about the
- 18:54Lamar situation, they almost gave the game away because once Lamar was out, it started
- 18:57getting a little bit tough. Um, he is day to day with an ankle injury,
- 19:00so like could be worse. They're gonna have to be careful with this. They should
- 19:05definitely Caleb Williamson. Who they got this next week? I have no idea. It doesn't
- 19:09matter. He's not playing. He should not play. Like, I mean, yeah, it doesn't matter
- 19:12because like even if they're— even if they're playing the Chiefs Like, you can't risk
- 19:15it, right? So, um, that's disappointing.
- 19:19I do think that the team has shown enough
- 19:23that they could, like, depending on the matchups, but like, they need—
- 19:28like, Lamar's gotta get through a season healthy,
- 19:32uh, and, and also land in the postseason healthy
- 19:36if this is going to be a situation where he can, like, make a legitimate
- 19:39run, because I think this is going to be a dogfight in that division.
- 19:42I think so too. Who do you think's the team to actually beat? Do you
- 19:45think it's going to be the Bengals, or do you think the Browns are actually
- 19:47real? Because I don't think the Ravens are the best team, I think, without question.
- 19:50But if Lamar is hurt, then it's an actual race. But the, the Browns
- 19:54are— feel like a lot like the Raiders to me, just without the, the reliable
- 19:58QB, which is like, oh, the, the rest of the team looks a lot better
- 20:02than I thought. Whereas like the Raiders offense is a lot better than I thought.
- 20:05There's some other questions I have about their roster The, the Browns
- 20:09and their— the rest of their unit, their young wide receivers, their defense,
- 20:14all of it is really fucking good. It is. It's really
- 20:17good. I like— I just, I, I don't know how you
- 20:21can look at that team right now and think that they're not better than the
- 20:25Steelers. I think they're better than the Bengals. I think they're better than the Steelers.
- 20:27I do think the Bengals are better, but like, you know how Joe— you know,
- 20:30Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase are better than anybody
- 20:35like that we're talking about on the Browns. Yeah, but then, but then their defense
- 20:38exists. Yeah. And their line exists. Well, and,
- 20:42and again, Joe Burrow is now in what,
- 20:46year 7? Believe 7. Yes.
- 20:49And he can't figure out how to fucking
- 20:53deal with that pressure in the pocket. He's just so bad.
- 20:56He, him and Jared Goff. I'm going to kill them. I'm going to kill them
- 20:59with my own two bare hands if they don't fucking figure out how to deal
- 21:03with the fact that your line is not there to prevent you
- 21:07ever feeling pressure. I'm gonna need you to figure it out. Like,
- 21:11go shotgun if you want, but they know where the ball's going, so you better
- 21:14get the ball out a lot quicker than that. You better learn how to Peyton
- 21:17Manning that shit, otherwise you're gonna end up like Andrew Luck. Absolutely. And that is
- 21:20the, the name you never want to hear. And by the way, it's in the
- 21:23chat right now, uh, ankles take months to fully heal. Uh,
- 21:26as someone still recovering from a broken ankle after months,
- 21:29it's tough. That is, of course, Tiger, uh, JV. Yes, my girl.
- 21:33I will tell you this, you are right. But the worst thing— now I had
- 21:36a lot of injuries in my career, right? The worst injury I actually had was
- 21:39a grade 3 ankle sprain. Took like, honestly, to this day— I got that in
- 21:432011, it is still fucked up. Yeah, to this day it's fucked up. Um,
- 21:46it just depends on the severity of the injury, and they are not exactly telling
- 21:49anyone the exact severity of the injury. And an ankle is really like legitimately
- 21:53very brutal. It is. Um, if you have like a sprain
- 21:56or a twist Um, and like you, you get
- 22:00to it early and you start rehabbing it early and you can, you know,
- 22:04you can do the pain meds, you can do the anti-inflammatories. It's like you can
- 22:08get yourself in okay shape. It took me within a couple of weeks.
- 22:11Um, and like that's like you're
- 22:15saying, like for you, but we're talking about the one of the more physical
- 22:19things you can do, play quarterback. So he need— he needs to be healthy,
- 22:23whatever it is. But I'm assuming it's okay-ish. It seems
- 22:26like honestly, my hope is
- 22:30that they took him out thinking we got to be able to
- 22:34win this game without him. We don't need him to play that. Like, let's be
- 22:36really, really careful. And that what's going on with his ankle is actually
- 22:42not— would not normally take you out of a game, but it
- 22:46took him out of this game because they were kicking the asses of the Titans
- 22:49and they thought, let's see if we can win this game without him. I think
- 22:51that that's what they did and that it's not as bad as maybe some— like,
- 22:54you know, Caleb's hamstring, which is keeping him out for weeks. Yeah, we'll see.
- 22:58Um, which, by the way, I've noticed everybody shut the fuck up about Caleb
- 23:02and his injury. Oh, it's not that serious. It's a fucking hamstring injury. He ain't
- 23:06gonna be back anytime soon. He ain't back this week. They've already announced it.
- 23:10I wonder if he'll be back next week. I don't know. All you motherfuckers trying
- 23:14to take your weird-ass victory lap. Can't believe you. You did this coming off the
- 23:17field. Fuck you. Yeah, like, and it's like, oh well, they keep having to
- 23:21roll with you know, their, their backup quarterbacks. I not— no,
- 23:25I don't care how high of him, like how high on his own supply Ben
- 23:28Johnson is, he doesn't want to start anybody but Caleb Williams. Everybody relax.
- 23:32He likes Tyson Badgett, fine, but he doesn't love him. He likes Case Keenum,
- 23:36fine, doesn't love him. Yeah. Um, all right, let's go. Let's talk
- 23:41about the Vikings because they're a really fascinating 4-0 situation.
- 23:45I— someone suggested the Vikings. I wish— I'll try to find
- 23:48it once you're, you You're making your points here, but, uh, they're 4-0 despite an
- 23:52offense that can't score touchdowns. They're not doing anything. And by the way, I'm still
- 23:56a believer in Kyler in this offense. We just haven't seen it yet. No.
- 23:59And it's— and it is like developing really slowly.
- 24:02Um, like Kyler doesn't seem comfortable in it yet. Like he doesn't
- 24:07seem to be building the connection with Justin Jefferson that I would hope he would
- 24:10have built. Um, I do think
- 24:14that there's probably a mental thing happening where it's like
- 24:18our defense has us covered. And like, that's where Kyler's biggest pitfall is, is when
- 24:21you get that mad fucking genius in Flores over there doing what he's doing.
- 24:25The Vikings scored 15 points all on field goals and have now gone 18
- 24:29possessions without a touchdown under the relevance, you know, so they're
- 24:334-0, becoming the only, only the 3rd team
- 24:37in NFL history to start 4-0 despite failing to score a touchdown in 2 games.
- 24:40Um, TJ Hockenson has been great, 13 catches for 119 yards. So Kyler's
- 24:45finding his connections. Yeah, they're just not finding them in the end zone.
- 24:48Um, and I guess if you look, and I'm
- 24:52sure we could like nitpick what's happening in the red zone, uh, the Patriots went
- 24:55through this like weird slump like this with, I think it was Mac Jones,
- 24:58where they just like could not score. They would like do all their work,
- 25:01um, in the, you know, in between the 20s, and then they couldn't get— do
- 25:04shit in the red zone. Um, so I've seen this before. My How—
- 25:09the question is, how the fuck long can Brian Flores and,
- 25:14and Will Reichard kicking do this? Like, Brian Flores
- 25:19scheming a team like basically single-handedly to a 4-0 start
- 25:24in the NFL, it's unreal. I— there,
- 25:28you know, the only real comparison— I got
- 25:32one that I can think of, like historically of a,
- 25:35of a defensive coach having
- 25:39this level of an impact on their entire team,
- 25:43like as an identity, is Tony Dungy.
- 25:47Like, that's it. Who's a fucking Hall of Famer? The only team I can
- 25:50really think of, like right off the top of my head, I was thinking about
- 25:53the Broncos when they were the Peyton Manning Broncos when they beat Cam Newton.
- 25:55Like that team solely won that because of their defense, not because Peyton
- 25:59Manning was on the team for goddamn sure. Oh, there's been plenty of That's not
- 26:02what I'm saying. Yeah, there's been plenty of teams. So you're just thinking of mad
- 26:04genius that can just— I'm talking about the scheming. Okay, specifically,
- 26:08and like what he's doing to change the game defensively. Because,
- 26:11uh, I believe that was Wade Phillips' defense, was it not? In the— it might
- 26:15have been. I think he was the defensive coordinator, or was he— whatever. Or that
- 26:18was maybe the Rams. Whatever it was, that defense, um, was— you're right,
- 26:22they won that. That was a defensive Super Bowl win with Peyton
- 26:26Manning knowing exactly what to like just not do in the Super Bowl to not
- 26:29lose it for them. The difference was that entire team
- 26:33was fucking stacked with All-Pro. Like, the kind of— like,
- 26:36that whole defensive line was monsters.
- 26:40Yeah, they were monsters. Their, their secondary was monsters.
- 26:44The Vikings, don't get me wrong, are talented as fuck.
- 26:48They've got All-Pros, they got Pro Bowls, whatever, but it's not those dudes.
- 26:51So, and then on top of it, schematically, he's,
- 26:55he's just doing things that nobody else does.
- 26:58Um, and he's not dialing it up because he's like, I have the, the best
- 27:03players at this position. He's dialing up because he knows exactly how to
- 27:06use those players. Well, to your point on the offense,
- 27:10I, I don't know when this connection is going to be figured out. I'm agreeing
- 27:12with you wholeheartedly on the Kyler Murray and the not getting the connection with Justin
- 27:16Jefferson. It's a bit concerning because I mean, we have less
- 27:20than a month— I'm sorry, no, no, we got about a month and a half
- 27:22before he needs to figure out to get this connection. He needs to get this
- 27:25connection before November 19th. Because you know what happens on November 19th? Grand Theft
- 27:29Auto 6 comes out and Kyler Murray is going to be a fucking disappearing act
- 27:33when that happens. Are we sure? Because don't they keep saying it's coming out and
- 27:35then it doesn't? It's supposedly coming out November 19th. And if that comes out November
- 27:3919th and Kyler has not— it's coming out, right? Thank you. Like officially official,
- 27:44Mocha. Like we can't— there's no turning back. Yeah, there's no turning back because they
- 27:49wouldn't do it a month away. They would have. Okay. Yeah. Okay. So November 19th,
- 27:53the guy's got a month and like 2 weeks to figure this out.
- 27:57Because we know what happens when GTA 6 comes
- 28:01out. Kyler's going to fucking be gone, right? We know this.
- 28:04Numbers back it up. Now, do I know that he's a GTA guy?
- 28:08No, but I know he's a Call of Duty guy, which screams that he's also
- 28:11a GTA guy. But didn't we just learn from,
- 28:14from Mike Tomlin that you can play video
- 28:18games? Yeah, you can sneak into the playoffs. This team needs to do more than
- 28:21sneak into the playoffs. No, I mean, come on, man.
- 28:24Kyler making the playoffs would be a huge thing for Kyler. He doesn't
- 28:28make the playoffs. They're 4-0. I feel like they got to like— yeah, they got
- 28:32to get like 12 wins, right? They got— they got to— yeah, I mean,
- 28:35at least 11. All right, let's go to—
- 28:39let's, let's talk about the Chargers because I was asked— we were asked by
- 28:43Ray L. Pedrosa on Threads,
- 28:47Harbaugh, McDaniel, Herbert conundrum. What do we
- 28:51think? The Seahawks beat the Chargers 30-23, a little bit closer than I think we
- 28:55would have assumed. Yeah, because they came back a little bit. Yeah, they started getting
- 28:57it together a little bit. They absolutely did. They— the Chargers fell to a 0-4,
- 29:01and it's starting to look like a season that could spiral completely out of control.
- 29:04Justin Herbert threw 2 first-half interceptions and then lost a fumble late. He's now
- 29:07thrown 6 interceptions and taken at least 10 sacks through 4 games, a combination
- 29:12not seen from a Chargers quarterback since Ryan Leaf in 2000. So something Philip
- 29:16Rivers simply never did, which I think we're all very
- 29:19aware at this point that Justin Herbert is not Philip Rivers. They tried,
- 29:23they tried to tell us he was Philip— they tried to tell us he was
- 29:25better. He's not Philip Rivers. The Chargers also had 16
- 29:29penalties for 130 yards and suffered multiple injuries.
- 29:32So hate that. Don't— we don't love injuries, but those penalties are fucking brutal.
- 29:38Let me ask you this first question. How much longer
- 29:43can the Chargers— like, can we just say this is bad luck and injuries?
- 29:48Not much longer. I've never said that. I— at no point have I said this
- 29:51to this point. I don't think it's ever been just— I think you can make
- 29:54the argument now, but you're a little about— you're 4 fucking losses late to be
- 29:57able to say that. Also, like, We saw the playoffs last year. We saw
- 30:00this. Like, I don't— like, yeah, we can— like,
- 30:04you only get to blame injuries when you were good before the injuries. Like,
- 30:07the Niners, they get to blame injuries. If the Niners lose when they've got
- 30:11like 7 dudes on fucking IR, they can blame injuries. The Chargers
- 30:15don't get to do that. That's like— that's like somebody like never getting bitches
- 30:19and then being like, I'm getting off the dating apps. Yep. Like, brother.
- 30:23Yeah. I'm like, you know what? I'm just so knee-deep in all this muff.
- 30:26I need it. I need it. I need to take a break. The reason I'm
- 30:29not dating is because I'm off off the apps. No, yeah, you weren't dating
- 30:32when you were on that. Chicks are all over me, bro. I just— I need
- 30:36to stop. I just— God, yeah, I need to reconnect with my kids again.
- 30:40Not the kids. Um, okay, we've done this
- 30:44before. We're gonna be official with it now. Let's hear it. One of
- 30:47these 3 is the problem, and I've decided I, I am definitively
- 30:52on my choice for who the actual fucking problem is.
- 30:55You're— I'm gonna just guess yours is Mr.
- 30:59Jim Harbaugh. It's, it's Harbaugh. I believe I'm going to tell you why. Let's hear
- 31:02it. After the game, there was a reporter
- 31:06who asked him a question about, like, you know, when he had been hired,
- 31:09his whole thing was, this is a, this is a generational talent and
- 31:13weapon that we have at this position at quarterback. This is the fucking real deal.
- 31:17And we're going to, we're going to establish the run. We're going to protect him.
- 31:20We're going to do all the things. We're going to do all the things that
- 31:23need to be done to take care of our QB.
- 31:28He's done none of them. And the, and the, and the
- 31:31reporter was like, hey, what's that about? And Jim Harbaugh's response was, oh, that seems
- 31:34less like a question and more like, uh, you know, like a personal attack.
- 31:39And the reporter was like, nah dude, I'm fucking— you said you were gonna
- 31:43do this. You, you're not running the ball. You're not establishing the run. You haven't
- 31:46established this position, and you have not like figured out a way to better protect
- 31:49Justin Herbert. Now again, I'm on record as saying I think Justin Herbert, along with
- 31:53many other quarterbacks in the league don't do them any favors with the way they
- 31:56play the position. And I don't think he does his offensive line any favors.
- 31:59Having said that, very hard to establish a,
- 32:03a, an opportunity to protect yourself when you can't
- 32:06get the run game going, when they don't seem to prioritize it, and when your
- 32:09head coach seems to be perfectly happy to let you play hero ball when
- 32:13you have proven you're not a hero. Hero ball is for
- 32:17Superman. Hero ball is for fucking Batman.
- 32:20Hero balls for? The Green Lantern. Bet your ass, right?
- 32:24All of them, like, except for Guy. Well,
- 32:27exactly. Maybe that's what— maybe that's what Justin Herbert is. He's Guy Gardner.
- 32:30He's Guy Gardner. He is definitely of the Green Lanterns. He's 100%
- 32:34Guy Gardner. But like, in my mind, I'm like, you know, like,
- 32:38you're, you're the sidekick. Like, you're not a— like, you can't ask people
- 32:42to do that. Um, and I, I'm really
- 32:46like, it's the attitude It's this weird arrogance about
- 32:51not only Justin Herbert's capabilities, but his— like
- 32:56his inability to take responsibility for the
- 33:00way that the offense is being called. So I put my 2 cents
- 33:04in. You got to pick one of the 3, one of the holy trinity of
- 33:08bullshittery. Here's the thing. I'm actually agreeing
- 33:12with you, but I know whose head's going to roll first, and it's not Harbaugh.
- 33:15That's not what I asked. Okay. I definitely blame Harbaugh. He is the
- 33:19head coach because we're on record as saying we know McDaniels. McDaniels' head is going
- 33:22to be the one that goes. Who you genuinely think is the biggest issue of
- 33:27the 3? And it's just— you don't have to agree with me. No, no,
- 33:28no. I actually do think it's— listen,
- 33:32I'm going Jim Harbaugh first. I'm actually going Justin Herbert second. And I might
- 33:36go Mike McDaniels. I don't know why we're going to blame Mike McDaniels. He just
- 33:39got there. He just fucking got here. And they've been doing this bullshit the whole
- 33:42time. We've seen Mike McDaniels be successful with fucking Tua. So like,
- 33:46and that's the other thing about Jim Harbaugh. I mean, like, he, he, Jim Harbaugh
- 33:50just 5 weeks ago referred to Justin Herbert as one day we're going to
- 33:54refer to him as the greatest that ever did that, did this. Yeah, he said
- 33:57that, not my words, fucking Jim Harbaugh's words. 0-4 later,
- 34:01where you at, Jim? I, I don't know what to say other than this team
- 34:05is a fucking disaster right now. And I, I don't necessarily blame
- 34:09Mike McDaniel, even though I think he's— if they lose this next game, I think
- 34:12he's got maybe 2 weeks to go at at best, that he's gonna get Chip
- 34:15Kelly'd out of fucking Vegas as quickly as humanly possible. The difference is Chip
- 34:20Kelly really did do a shit job. I'm not positive that's what's
- 34:24going on over here with Mike McDaniel. I think the fucking Chargers are just really
- 34:27fucking bad. Yeah. And I, and I, I don't
- 34:32think— I do think that there's a character issue with Justin Herbert.
- 34:35I actually really do. Interesting. I do genuinely think there is a
- 34:39character issue where, you know how we said we like part of Trevor Lawrence's issue
- 34:43and why he's inconsistent is he's a dingbat. Yeah, I actually don't think he has
- 34:46character issues other than like, I just think he's a flighty and dingbat,
- 34:50and I don't think that he takes the job of quarterback as seriously as he
- 34:54should, um, because he's so like naturally talented. I've always
- 34:58thought that about like some of these like natural gunslinger came
- 35:02in, we're like top prospects out of high school, top prospects out of college.
- 35:06It can be really hard to like get those dudes to believe they
- 35:09have to like continue to work hard to be good.
- 35:13Justin Herbert has like an actual,
- 35:17I think, a genuine like ego problem.
- 35:21And we get— we hear that levied against quarterbacks
- 35:25all the time. Heard that levied against Cam Newton, never saw it in his play.
- 35:29I've heard that levied against a lot of Black quarterbacks and
- 35:33like players like Baker Mayfield. Um,
- 35:37and I've never seen those players— Baker looks
- 35:41sometimes like he just is sucking. I never, never seem like he doesn't think he's—
- 35:45I never look— it never looks like he's not trying. He's just being— he's just
- 35:48being— he's just doing a bad job. Yeah.
- 35:52I don't believe in Justin Herbert's work ethic at all. I just
- 35:55fucking don't. Well, based on what I've seen, I've seen more videos of him feeding
- 35:58his fiancée grapes at the fucking practice facility than I
- 36:02have seen him practice. It takes a lot to impress, like, and I know
- 36:06this is going to be like the most insufferable thing I've ever said. I grew
- 36:09up watching Tom Brady. Like, it takes a lot to impress me as
- 36:13far as your work ethic. And there's only a few quarterbacks that impress
- 36:17me. Patrick Mahomes impresses me. Lamar Jackson impresses me. Josh Allen impresses me.
- 36:21Um, like the people who seem
- 36:25to like really live and die by their team and by trying.
- 36:30Doesn't mean they're always perfect, doesn't mean I don't have critiques,
- 36:33but, um, and then, you know, some of the quarterbacks that you and
- 36:37I have talked about that are backups that have scratched that fucking never stop working,
- 36:40that impresses me. I don't— these, these oversized, like,
- 36:44high school— some dudes just fucking sit around and just bank on their fucking talent.
- 36:48No, I was chosen, this is, this is me. Fuck you, dude,
- 36:51this shit's hard. Like, it gets harder. You know, people say that about Kyler Murray.
- 36:55And I'm like, Kyler Murray should not be able to play football.
- 36:58He is my size. He's an undersized fucking guy. No,
- 37:02undersized doesn't cut it. He is not nearly— he's
- 37:06not even 5'10. Like, that motherfucker is little, miniature,
- 37:09but he is— he should not be able to play. Yes, exactly. So it's like,
- 37:13if you're going— but you're gonna be 6'5, 6'6 acting
- 37:17like this? Absolutely not. I can't. I get it, I get it. It's fucking messed.
- 37:20But what are you gonna do other than giggle because at the end of the
- 37:23day it's just the fucking Chargers. You know who also might
- 37:28be on the line is the next game we're going to talk about, which is,
- 37:31um, Panthers-Lions. Boy, boy, you know what's funny?
- 37:35There's 2 things. I think 2 things can be true about this one right out
- 37:37the gate. One, I think I'm with you. One, Panthers are a team to be
- 37:41reckoned with. Bryce Young, their offense specifically. Bryce Young has
- 37:45been fucking fantastic. Awesome. He's also fantastic. Fringe.
- 37:49He's fringe MVP for me. Depends on how the rest of the season goes,
- 37:51but he's fringe. Also, fucking Lions
- 37:55might be bad. I— the Lions might be— and I'm, I'm not kidding,
- 37:59and I think Green Bay is a shit team this year— I think the Lions
- 38:01might be the worst team in this division. I, I am really worried.
- 38:05I don't think Dan Campbell's job is really up yet, but I gotta say,
- 38:10that seat is gonna start getting warmer as this season goes along.
- 38:14And I think Dan Campbell's getting a little exposed. You're getting a little too sports
- 38:17radio for me right now. You just, you just went a little too the fan.
- 38:21Why? Because I think his seat's going to get hot. I don't think he's going
- 38:24to fire this. No, it was too, it was too milquetoast. Okay. I don't know.
- 38:27How about this? The team's not playing very well. The team should be playing well.
- 38:30It's not because of Jared Goff. It's not because of Amon-Ra St. Brown. It's not
- 38:34because of fucking Jahmyr Gibbs. So who is it going to be? It's going to
- 38:36be fucking Dan Campbell. Do I think Dan Campbell's going to— do I think Dan
- 38:39Campbell's getting fired this year? No, I do not. But I think
- 38:43there's going to be a lot of conversations this offseason if this team falls under
- 38:46.500, of which I think they're going to be fucking 2 games at least under
- 38:49.500. Exactly. There. You happy? This is no D-Fish
- 38:52over here. I want the— I want the hard-hitting facts. All right. You know what?
- 38:55Fuck Dan Campbell. I don't mean that. I love Dan Campbell. I like Dan
- 38:59Campbell a lot. This is a really, really bad— it's bad.
- 39:03I don't think— I think it's directionless. I think he's wasting
- 39:07a quarterback who is technically still in his prime, who's actually playing really
- 39:10well. Jared Goff has his weaknesses. He hasn't gotten any better necessarily
- 39:15at them, but he's not gotten worse. He's been better in Detroit than he was
- 39:18in Los Angeles, and I love that. But it was with other coordinators
- 39:21who were like helping him out. Major coordinators that are dominating in other places.
- 39:25He's been playing really well this season. Yeah, the numbers are showing up.
- 39:29Not everything's numbers, but like Jared Goff is doing his fucking job. Yes, he is.
- 39:32He is. Again, this is another team
- 39:36that didn't run the fucking ball.
- 39:39He had to throw 54 times. They ran Jahmyr Gibbs 15
- 39:43times. The only player in the fucking
- 39:47game for the Lions who ran the ball was Jahmyr Gibbs.
- 39:51One player ran 15 times.
- 39:54That's it. No designed quarterback runs for slow-ass—
- 39:58okay, fine. I understand Jared Goff doesn't do that. Not one
- 40:02other fucking player took a handoff. Not one other
- 40:06player ran that, rushed the fucking ball. Wow. I'm so surprised that even
- 40:10against a fairly, like, unimpressive Panthers defense, that they figured
- 40:14out a way to stop knowing Jared Goff was going to throw, or if
- 40:18he wasn't, who was going to run. This was just the fucking most pathetic
- 40:23offense I've ever seen. And also on top of that, I mean, even the fucking
- 40:25Rams had a rushing touchdown from Puka Nacua. Like, like they
- 40:29had people running. What? He can do anything. Yes, he can do
- 40:32fucking anything. Listen, you're not wrong. This team is a fucking disaster right now.
- 40:36And I've I've never seen a team so sorely miss— that would never happen
- 40:40under me. Miss Ben Johnson. Like, Ben Johnson, who— I didn't know Ben Johnson
- 40:44was just the fucking secret sauce this whole time. And Aaron Glenn, by the way.
- 40:47Yeah, Glenn hasn't looked good either. And they have Aiden Hutchinson. They have all these
- 40:50players that were supposed to be great, that looked great, and now they fucking don't.
- 40:53Yeah, dude, it's brutal. It's fucking brutal. And this was a team— and what the
- 40:56reason why it actually pisses me off is not the right word, but disappoints me
- 41:00quite a bit. Like, I really wanted this team to kind of fucking win a
- 41:03Super Bowl finally, or at least go to one. They've never fucking been to a
- 41:07Super Bowl. I did too. I really— this window, I think, is closed,
- 41:11man. Closed as fuck. It's fucking closed. You know what? Free Jared Goff.
- 41:15Really? I have always— because, like, he is
- 41:18a Super Bowl-capable quarterback. I think so too. But, like,
- 41:22where— I don't know where he can go at this point. That would be like,
- 41:24you know, whatever. But just for the record, and we are still believers in
- 41:29Kyler, but can you imagine if they got in the O'Connell system? Okay,
- 41:32that's valid. I understand that. Just can you imagine? Can you imagine
- 41:35that Minnesota might go undefeated if he was in Oklahoma?
- 41:38Minnesota loves to take like a former NFC North quarterback and go to an NFC.
- 41:42They're not scared to do it, man. They're really fucking not scared to do that
- 41:45shit. A great point. All right. A couple other things before we
- 41:49wrap up football.
- 41:53Oh, by the way, before we, before we move on from that, I just want
- 41:55to note that Ted McMillan is nuts. Ted McMillan's nuts.
- 42:0045 points for me in fantasy. Absolutely insane.
- 42:04And, uh, Bryce Young, I do think, deserves— there's a
- 42:09lot of people who have to apologize to him. Oh yes, I've been saying that
- 42:11for a fucking year though. Like, everybody needs to say they're fucking sorry.
- 42:15So there's that. Uh, we got, before we move on, 3 undefeated
- 42:19teams after Week 4: Niners, Chiefs, Vikings. And they're undefeated in wildly
- 42:23different ways. Uh, Niners, we know they're balanced, they're deep, they're efficient.
- 42:27Chiefs, Mahomes, an explosive plays and clutch ability in the running
- 42:30game of Kenneth Walker. And then we have the Vikings all defense and kicking and
- 42:34just like fucking grinding it out. I love that. Love— that's
- 42:37good. That's good for the league that we've got like these teams winning in different
- 42:41ways that don't— but they don't seem— none of these teams seem unbeatable,
- 42:46but they are excellent and giving
- 42:49us good football. Tyquan Thornton injury bumming
- 42:53me the fuck out. Not gonna lie. That sucked. But otherwise,
- 42:57I, you know, the Chiefs look like they're
- 43:02gonna just win games. They look good. They're just not like— if you make one
- 43:05mistake, if you do one thing— the Raiders had the opportunity
- 43:09to try to figure something out. You saw my face when they lost that game.
- 43:12Um, and like, you can't make mistakes like that against the Chiefs. They will
- 43:15just like make it difficult for you. They are not blowing people out, but they're
- 43:19surviving, and those teams are dangerous. Especially when they're dynasties. They're— it's just the
- 43:23Chiefs, man. The Chiefs are very much back. But I'm again very proud of my
- 43:26Raiders. Thought it was a great game because there was a time where they got
- 43:29down 2 scores and I'm like, oh shit, here it goes. This is— now it's
- 43:32gonna be back to the same old Raiders. No, it fucking wasn't. They came right
- 43:35back and they fought all the way to the last fucking play of the game.
- 43:38Sadly, somebody got their hands on, uh, on Kirk Cousins's arm
- 43:41as he was trying to make that last pass. It was a— it would have
- 43:44been a miracle pass anyways, to be quite honest with you. And that led to
- 43:48his one interception in the game. Kirk Cousins has been playing phenomenal. The Raiders are
- 43:51playing their asses off. They have nothing to be— nothing to be worried about,
- 43:55with the exception of one thing. For fuck's sake, can Ashton Gentry get his ass
- 43:58going? This guy is just not doing anything from the backfield. He made a couple
- 44:01big plays, but they were catches, weren't they? Like, he's doing fine with the catches.
- 44:04I'm just talking about the running game is just not getting going for the Raiders
- 44:07right now. Going to be that kind of running back for them. I hope so.
- 44:10Maybe they know that. I'm still hopeful. I think actually Because I think Washington's also
- 44:14a beast too. I think the head coach has figured out that that's just not
- 44:17Gente's role. I think that he is like— I think he's James White.
- 44:20I think he's, he's a pass-catching back. Here's one thing we definitely know. Raiders might
- 44:24have the very best tight end, tight end tandem in the game because him and
- 44:28Mayer, Brock Bowers and Mayer together. Tandem. Oh dude, Mayer's a beast.
- 44:32He's fine because they don't have any receivers. Yeah,
- 44:35it's— I would say, I would say like Brock
- 44:39Bowers is really doing the heavy lifting. Brock Bowers is a league
- 44:43of his own fucking tight end. And let's be honest,
- 44:47the Eagles offense looks like they all got roofied. Dude, what the fuck happened?
- 44:50Like, what the fuck happened? I know the offensive line is, is like demolished.
- 44:54I understand. Lane Johnson retired. They're, they're bad.
- 44:58Lane Johnson was bad anyway. I know, but he did retire today.
- 45:02He was bad anyway. Great. Fine. They,
- 45:05they'll just bring in somebody else. Like, I'm not sure it's much of a loss
- 45:09at this point. Um, they,
- 45:12they had 172 offensive yards. They were 0 for
- 45:1612 on third down, seems like 1 for 4 on fourth down,
- 45:2015 3-and-outs through 4 games.
- 45:23This is like a completely broken offense.
- 45:27And one of the games they've won was literally just because Jalen Hurts decided to
- 45:32go nuts. Tennessee, they should have lost to the Titans.
- 45:35So like, this is— I'm in full panic mode about the Eagles. You cannot turn
- 45:38me around from panic mode. Like, it's, it's between that and then the last 2
- 45:42games, I'm in panic mode. Um, and I
- 45:46don't know if this is like a Sirianni thing or what's going on, but halftime,
- 45:50this team always is like— they're like fine, hanging in, all good first
- 45:54half. Halftime happens, I don't know, they go back again. Are— is
- 45:58there Ruffalin in, in the Gatorade?
- 46:01They come back out and they look useless. Okay, he's got a theory. I have
- 46:05a theory. No, no, I have a theory that certain people of the Eagles,
- 46:07uh, front office knew this was coming. 100% knew this was coming.
- 46:12And that's why we got all those fucking Jalen Hurts stories.
- 46:15Some— they wanted to get it out that somebody was going to be at fault
- 46:18before this season even fucking started. They made sure it was Jalen Hurts before the
- 46:21season even began. I don't know. I do think
- 46:26that people have been trying to frame Jalen, um, out of the organization,
- 46:29but I don't think that they're like trying to lose games so that they can
- 46:32then— I don't think they're trying to lose games. I think they knew they were
- 46:34going to lose games because this looks like dog shit. This looks bad.
- 46:38Well, it's the same thing really, right? Like, it's like if you know you're gonna
- 46:41lose games and you're fine with it, that's like so that you can tank and
- 46:44what, get Arch Manning? Have fun with that. They're not gonna get Arch
- 46:48Manning. They're not gonna tank that badly. Well, maybe they will. I don't know.
- 46:51I mean, the Dolphins are really good. The Dolphins and Titans are going
- 46:55to be a serious run for your money on that one. And the Titans really
- 46:58need a quarterback because it's not going well. They— I,
- 47:03I am sick of the Titans ruining otherwise
- 47:07exciting potential. They really do that because, like, to be quite honest,
- 47:11Ryan Tannehill lowkey was sick. He was really good.
- 47:15Ryan Tannehill was low-key sick and the Titans fucked it up. Like,
- 47:19I don't know, it's like a cursed place for these fucking quarterbacks.
- 47:23You know what, it's because of what they did to Vince Young,
- 47:26probably. And it's— they're never getting past this. Jeff Fisher's fault.
- 47:30I, I always think that. I think that about most shit. Okay, great. Um,
- 47:35let's move on to headline number 2. Um,
- 47:38this was suggested by literally one of my favorite human beings on planet
- 47:42Earth. My, my sweetie pie, Tone Only Photography.
- 47:49Both sides of the contract divide between Karl-Anthony Towns and the Knicks are really
- 47:53convoluted right now. It is looking like the Knicks are just going
- 47:57to let Karl-Anthony Towns walk. I,
- 48:00I don't know. It's insane. I think it's— personally,
- 48:04I think it's fucking funny. I think it's hilarious. This is the most fucking
- 48:09Knicks thing you could ever fucking do in your life. You have a team that
- 48:12is so not just kind of like the most beloved team Dare I say,
- 48:15in like New York history. And I'm not just talking about the Knicks. I'm talking
- 48:19about fucking New York, a city with the Yankees with 27 championships.
- 48:22By the way, I just was doing this because I was arguing with people on
- 48:25Threads. And when I argue, I research because I'm a fucking psycho.
- 48:28Yeah. The NBA— the
- 48:33NBA Finals between the Knicks and Spurs got over 20 million viewers,
- 48:37and it was the first time since 20— 2017 that that
- 48:42had happened. Yeah, they— NBA Finals ratings had been in the
- 48:45fucking tank. They were down,
- 48:49down, down to like more than half of what the prime
- 48:52Golden State Warriors, Cavs were bringing in. The Spurs
- 48:57and the Knicks revived the whole fucking thing. We get back up, you know,
- 49:00smaller market share, but still like real actual ratings. Yeah,
- 49:04and like James Dolan, you've got like— you have to imagine that Adam
- 49:08Silver is like Can you fucking not? Can you just—
- 49:13James Dolan is incapable. He's fucking incapable without
- 49:17inserting it. He has to insert himself in the worst, stupidest shit
- 49:20ever. It's fucking unbelievable. These people need to— like, you guys
- 49:24collude all the time. These fucking owners— you can't collude to get James Dolan to
- 49:28stop tanking your fucking NBA ratings? Like, you need
- 49:32the Knicks to be good. You need the Knicks to be good. For your
- 49:36fucking ratings. They've proven it. The Celtics being good doesn't help you. The Lakers
- 49:39being good doesn't help you. None of it. Apparently right now it needs
- 49:43to be the Knicks. Okay,
- 49:46dude, guys, I don't know what to say other than like, I don't— James
- 49:50Dolan makes no fucking sense to me because they win the title and he
- 49:54immediately says, yeah, we're not going to the second tier. Motherfucker, even if that's the
- 49:57case, shut the fuck up. Don't even fucking say it. Just enjoy the championship
- 50:01that these guys won you. They won this for you, by the way, because you
- 50:05weren't meddling because you were so fucking busy with the Sphere and all the money
- 50:08you've lost on that. You weren't able to focus because they won it
- 50:12because he got lucky and got Jalen Brunson to turn down like
- 50:16$100-something million. I got questions about that roster
- 50:19after what I just saw with Kawhi. I got some questions about that now.
- 50:22No, don't you dare. I got questions.
- 50:26You do realize that that would involve James Dolan having
- 50:29to do what Steve Ballmer did. You know, Steve Ballmer is
- 50:33an actual, like, engineer. I know James Dolan is
- 50:37James Dolan. I hate to break it to you, but, like, James Dolan's not smart.
- 50:41He's not nearly smart enough. You're not wrong. Okay, I take that back. Maybe it's
- 50:44not happening to Jalen Brunson. So a max contract for the 30-year-old All-Star
- 50:48would introduce major second apron concerns, a space Knicks owner James
- 50:52Dolan has shown no interest in occupying. Towns, for his part, says he's willing to
- 50:56meet somewhere in the middle. I want to do something that can keep the team
- 50:58together and work with the Knicks and also feel valued. None of
- 51:02those things have come close to happening. So like you and I on record,
- 51:07KAT, Karl-Anthony Towns, our sweet baby angel, love him.
- 51:11We stand by KAT. We love KAT. We love Jordan. I'm the biggest KAT fan
- 51:14there fucking is. We're like, oh, like neither one of us is Knicks fans.
- 51:18No. And but like massive KAT people. But I've had the luxury
- 51:22of like hanging out with KAT and like being around him and Jordan.
- 51:25They are the fucking coolest 2 people you could ever meet. They're the best.
- 51:30They're so nice. Like, we are. And we were on this beat
- 51:33all through the NBA Finals. So now you've got— you've got that. You've got
- 51:37him being like, clearly not seeking a crazy contract. No. Like,
- 51:41yes, you might hit the second apron. You could win another title.
- 51:46He like, this motherfucker's got to go. That I
- 51:50am— I'm a fan of a team who just got rid of Jaylen Brown in
- 51:53a way they didn't need to because the team was bought. By private
- 51:58equity motherfuckers, right? Turns out at a massive discount, right?
- 52:03So I understand what— that's private
- 52:07equity bros. You let them buy the team, they're doing what private equity bros do.
- 52:10This sucks. Being a Celtics fan is going to suck for the rest of my
- 52:12life. This idiot is a legacy owner.
- 52:16He's not a fucking— like, he's not some random dude who bought the team to
- 52:19like flip it to make money. What are you— why are you acting like
- 52:22this? What is real? What is your fucking problem? I hate everybody.
- 52:26I hate everybody. He's— well, don't worry, he's gonna find a way to blame fucking
- 52:29Mondami or something. That's this fucking clown.
- 52:32He's a fucking clown. By the way, when's her White House visit that the
- 52:35team did not agree to?
- 52:39Oh my God, you noticed that hadn't happened yet, right? Oh yeah,
- 52:43have you noticed that? Because I sure as fuck have noticed that. I haven't.
- 52:47I'm waiting, I'm waiting, and I'm writing down names. Who's showing up?
- 52:51Who's going? Because I don't think it's going to happen. It's not going to happen
- 52:54because I noticed that James Dolan hasn't brought it up one fucking time. No.
- 52:57Who was it? Who was it that wanted to go? OG? Who? No, it wasn't.
- 53:00No, there was just one of them on the Celtics now. Oh, yeah, yeah,
- 53:03yeah. Robinson. He's, he's, he's a big MAGA guy, which I couldn't fucking believe.
- 53:07Mitch Robinson. Yeah. All right, so we've said our piece.
- 53:11Adam Silver, step in, collude, stop this. We need the Knicks
- 53:14ratings. I'm kidding. Obviously, don't collude, but like, genuinely, like,
- 53:18This, this league doesn't know what the— no, but I disagree. James Dolan
- 53:22colluded because you are just simply not smart enough to collude. You will be caught.
- 53:25Get caught. Fucking that. Yeah, and we don't have to deal with it anymore.
- 53:28Then you could be the in to get rid of all the antitrust exemptions.
- 53:31Think about it. Jimmy Dolan,
- 53:35do it. Do it. Be the criminal you know you want to be.
- 53:39Be the criminal in all of us. Yeah, be the dumbest member
- 53:42of the Ocean's Eleven. Headline number 3, um,
- 53:45the Yankees are looking rough against— in their, uh, in their playoff series against
- 53:49the Rays right now. Obviously division, division series, so I— it's not like I think
- 53:54that those are always obviously the most interesting, the most difficult to win, um,
- 53:58but they're looking rough. And we've seen
- 54:01this iteration of the Yankees where they're great, they have all the talent in the
- 54:05world, maybe you have some injuries, maybe you have whatever, but there's just like the
- 54:08payroll is there, everything's there. You've got fucking Your GM, who apparently
- 54:12will be, will be still the GM once he's dead and in the fucking grave.
- 54:15They're just never letting him go. Aaron Boone still got his job.
- 54:20They haven't lost the series, so I'm not saying that they won't come back and
- 54:23win. Maybe they do. Maybe they're gonna come. They're not looking like a team that's
- 54:27gonna do that. So again, since I like to
- 54:30actually get your baseball, I haven't been able to pay a ton of attention to
- 54:34the playoffs. Um, you know, I watched the Diamondbacks and the Red Sox
- 54:39all those games. I watched them get eliminated, and then I have only popped in
- 54:41like as often as I possibly can. What changes do
- 54:46the Yankees need to make? Because Ishnai316 asked us,
- 54:51or basically said, Yankees suck, might need to full rebuild the
- 54:55Pinstripes from the ground up. Now, that, that's his take. He's saying, he's thinking,
- 54:59what do you think about that? And if not a full sort of like
- 55:02clean slate thing, which the Yankees don't really do, What next?
- 55:06I think some names need to change. I think Brian Cashman's
- 55:10been there for like fucking 40 years. Brian Cashman's got to go. Brian Cashman
- 55:14does not put this team together the way I think a team in modern times
- 55:17needs to be put together at this point. The Yankees don't necessarily develop, even though
- 55:20they got a lot of young guys that they've brought up on this team that
- 55:24have done a really, really good job. They look like dogshit against
- 55:28this Tampa Bay Rays team, who is, in my opinion, by far
- 55:31the best team in the American League. And they're outclassing the living shit
- 55:35out of the Yankees. Um, injuries, because Aaron Judge is,
- 55:39let's face it, pretty old. Giancarlo Stanton, pretty old.
- 55:43Um, their pitching staff is good enough to get shit done, but here is the
- 55:47problem: this team makes the dumbest fucking mistakes of any team that's
- 55:50ever existed. And this has been the case under fucking— under
- 55:54not Cashman, under fucking Boone's fucking watch this whole time. My one
- 55:58complaint about Aaron Boone, and here's the truth, I don't know what he's like in
- 56:02the clubhouse. I, I assume these guys love him. Because he goes in the press.
- 56:05He's not known as a big clubhouse— he's not like an— like a Torre Lovello.
- 56:09But what he is though is he goes in public and he always defends his
- 56:12guys no matter fucking what. I've never seen him say a negative thing about one
- 56:15of his players ever. And I will tell you, that is actually a negative.
- 56:18This team makes stupid, stupid fucking mistakes.
- 56:21Base running mistakes that a fucking Little Leaguer doesn't make. Errors that
- 56:25fucking children are better than. They made 3 errors in the first
- 56:29inning just yesterday for Cam Schlittler. Somehow Cam Schiller only gave up one run
- 56:33in that fucking time because he's a fucking monster. Then of course another error.
- 56:36They made 4 fucking errors in this game and they were all dogshit stupid
- 56:40fucking errors. They— the base running mistakes. These guys
- 56:43make mistakes on the bases that are not even just— they're just
- 56:47fucking lazy and stupid. Wells got thrown out the first hit of
- 56:51the game. They were getting no-hit in like the 7th inning. Wells hits a ball
- 56:53down the right field line. Wells, who has got the speed
- 56:57of a fucking Nazi-era fucking truck,
- 57:01like truly slow motion,
- 57:04like he's running in gravy. Got thrown out by like 15 feet trying
- 57:07to— with 2 outs, trying to turn this into a triple. What the fuck are
- 57:11you going to third for? You got the first hit of the game and you're
- 57:13being no-hit. You're being dominated. And you got thrown out. And that was your one
- 57:16base runner you had in the entire fucking game. Dipshit type of stuff.
- 57:20And you know what? Aaron Boone says like, it's like a discipline. It's like they
- 57:23just don't. And I've never heard Aaron Boone say a word about it.
- 57:26Ever. So they don't even— like, was— did, did he get—
- 57:31that was him just deciding to go to third? He didn't— they didn't send him
- 57:33to third? No, I, I don't even think he looked at the third base coach.
- 57:35So that's— that is some like, we don't give a fuck. It's such a
- 57:40lack of discipline on the Yankees, and they're the goddamn Yankees. They're not worried about
- 57:43Aaron Boone. They don't give a fuck about what he's saying. I would agree.
- 57:44So that's actually not good. Like, to your point, he's not a good locker room
- 57:48coach. They don't give a fuck. But then Aaron Boone goes on fucking TV and
- 57:50says, oh, it was a rough one, you know, I believe in our guys.
- 57:52Yada, yada, yada. Motherfucker, call somebody out.
- 57:55Like, how much you want to bet he has no
- 57:59locker room presence there at all? And that's why he just like doesn't say shit,
- 58:02because he can't. He has no credibility with his players. They have— they clearly
- 58:06don't give a fuck. That's a problem, dude. It's, it's ugly. But I gotta be
- 58:10honest, like, my number one on my list and forever until he's fired
- 58:14is Brian Cashman. I don't— I, I— that, like, I've, I've never seen anything like
- 58:17it. He did not even build the team that went to a dynasty. That was
- 58:21a dynasty in the late '90s. That was Dick Michaels' team. That was Dick Michaels
- 58:23who built that fucking team. And then he brought
- 58:27in a couple of like great little free agents to like add to the core
- 58:315 people that he fucking inherited that ran the dynasty. Oh, and by
- 58:35the way, those of you that have been like, oh, Dodgers are ruining baseball,
- 58:37motherfucker, go back in time and see how much the Yankees were outspending everybody.
- 58:41The Dodgers are outspending teams by like $10 million. Like the
- 58:45Mets payroll is practically exactly the same. Padres payroll is pretty fucking high. Yankees payroll
- 58:49is pretty fucking high. The disparity, the discrepancy is like 25%.
- 58:53The Yankees were like outspending everybody in baseball at the time by
- 58:57like 125%. Their payroll was literally double everyone
- 59:01else's. And by the way, by the way, they had been doing like they had
- 59:05been doing the bullshit Steinbrenner stuff. And what happened was
- 59:09Steinbrenner got in trouble, couldn't deal with baseball operations for a while.
- 59:12Sick Michael comes in, says, we're actually going to fucking bring up some prospects and
- 59:16develop some guys. Brings in the core 4.
- 59:20So even, even then, with all the money they were spending,
- 59:24the best thing they did once they, once they actually
- 59:27were like outside of just fucking spending money on whoever,
- 59:31was develop just like the Dodgers. So they bring up this crazy—
- 59:34I mean, to bring up those 4 dudes at the same time, I mean,
- 59:36it's not just pure borderline luck or amazing scouting, really,
- 59:40whatever, you know, there has to be something to it. But like, it also is
- 59:43timing is everything. But then yes, they could afford to keep them all for
- 59:47a while because they're— so to your point, but none of that was fucking Brian
- 59:51Cashman. Like, wow, you inherited those
- 59:554 people and Bernie Williams, and then you spent millions upon
- 59:58millions of money to keep those 4 people, Bernie Williams, whoever else, and to bring
- 1:00:02in A-Rod. And what— oh wow, by the way, you never won a fucking title
- 1:00:06with A-Rod. Or did he? He won one. 2009. 2009 one.
- 1:00:102009 one. A-Rod was on. He was. He was still on that
- 1:00:14team. He was still on that team. Goddamn, I'm mad about it too. I do
- 1:00:17not— I do not like that A-Rod has a ring. It really does. But here's
- 1:00:20the deal, like, something's got to change here. The fucking Yankees. And I'm— I want
- 1:00:24the Yankees to be the Yankees again. And because I do think it's—
- 1:00:28because I do think they were a really good fucking Yankees.
- 1:00:32We have the Yankees. There's the Dodgers. There's a difference. The Dodgers, and you'll probably
- 1:00:36disagree, up and down that lineup, that's a really likable fucking team and they're
- 1:00:39a lot of fucking fun to watch. You want like— I want an actual fucking
- 1:00:42villain. The Yankees were an actual villain. Villains. Okay.
- 1:00:46Like, they were a real villain. They were unlikable fucks.
- 1:00:49They were fucking really good and they were outspending everyone.
- 1:00:53The Dodgers, they're outspending people, but they're also developing like motherfuckers.
- 1:00:56They scout better than everybody. Everyone loves playing for them. And the team itself
- 1:01:01is really likable. Like, really fucking likable. Except for Mike Trout. That you didn't
- 1:01:04like Roger Clemens. I did not. I did not.
- 1:01:09I'm shocked. Card-carrying member of the anti-Clemens club.
- 1:01:12And I don't even love Mike Piazza that much, but I'm just— I'm still mad
- 1:01:16Mike Piazza didn't just turn left and beat the ever-loving fuck out of Roger Clemens
- 1:01:19that night. My all-time favorite Yankee is— who do you want to guess? Like,
- 1:01:23I mean, it's Bernie Williams. Ever. It, it's— it should be Bernie Williams.
- 1:01:26It's not. There's someone else. Okay. Uh,
- 1:01:30same era? Just after. Just after.
- 1:01:33Oh, just Nick Swisher. No. Fuck no. I hate
- 1:01:37Nick Swisher. Swisher's the man. You would love Nick Swisher. I would not.
- 1:01:41I'm going to introduce you to Nick Swisher. I've met Nick. You're going to really—
- 1:01:44I've known Nick Swisher for like 25 years. I fucking love Nick Swisher. No,
- 1:01:46he was fine, but like, he gave real douche vibes. Well, yeah, that's how he
- 1:01:50is at all times. Like, yeah, bro, this is going to be a great fucking
- 1:01:52day. Yeah, he was fine. He's like that all the time. No, he just gave
- 1:01:56me like douche vibes. But, but to your point, like, that's kind of like he's
- 1:02:00just a bro. Who is it? It's Hideki Mitsui. I get that. Yeah, I get
- 1:02:03that. You can't be mad at him. Yeah, it's like being mad at Muni Murakami.
- 1:02:07Yeah, it's impossible. I am Japanese and that's not me doing it. Like,
- 1:02:11that's, that's how he sounds. I am Devin E. I want to make this abundantly
- 1:02:13clear just because I know we're not touching on it today. The White Sox are
- 1:02:17the best story in actual— oh, someone asked us, someone asked us, is it
- 1:02:20fair that God is helping the White Sox? Yes. And I was like, yes.
- 1:02:23They lost 100 games 3 years in a row. This team's won 1 championship
- 1:02:28since 2000— since 1917. They've won a total of 3 series
- 1:02:32since 1917. Let God
- 1:02:35help. Let God, let God take the wheel. I want them in the ALCS
- 1:02:39so bad. I want them in the World Series so bad. It's not going to
- 1:02:43happen, but I'd love to see it. We're going to go to Media Corner.
- 1:02:46We got a couple of— we got a couple of winners over here in Media
- 1:02:49Corner. Our— our— my
- 1:02:53follower Elise said Carly Irsay Gordon being a boss on the sidelines
- 1:02:57instead of just listening to yes-men. We'd love to see it, right?
- 1:03:01So thank you for that. Someone who did not—
- 1:03:04who is just simply not appreciating the girl bossing.
- 1:03:08That Carly Rae Jepsen is doing is notorious
- 1:03:12misogynist Bill Simmons, our friend over at the Rose Bowl. Now,
- 1:03:15you didn't know that Bill Simmons has a history of like real, like overt— and
- 1:03:20I don't blame you. No, no, no. I mean this from the bottom of my
- 1:03:21heart. I like— I know who Bill Simmons is, right?
- 1:03:25I've never once— and I know you're going to call me crazy— I never once
- 1:03:28seen his work ever. I know he runs the radio. I know that you are
- 1:03:31like actually like tapped out on just how big of a deal he
- 1:03:35is. But a lot of it is because you were in baseball for like— the
- 1:03:39motherfucker wasn't talking about baseball since— last time he talked about baseball was he made
- 1:03:424 days in October. Like, I just think that like he was so concentrated on
- 1:03:45NBA and other stuff that he probably wasn't even finding his way into your circles.
- 1:03:50Which is fair, and you're lucky for that. Unfortunately for me,
- 1:03:54I was raised in Boston,
- 1:03:57and he was a fucking big deal. Then I come out here and now he's
- 1:04:00a fucking big deal at Grantland and The Ringer. And now he's
- 1:04:04finally starting to fade into obscurity. And you would think that he had learned
- 1:04:09something from years of saying derogatory shit about WNBA
- 1:04:13players, about Sue Bird and Diana Trazzi,
- 1:04:16talking about how women shouldn't be able to play fantasy football.
- 1:04:20Dead serious. This dude was like an OG early
- 1:04:242000s misogynist, sexist pig. Good to know, right?
- 1:04:27Good to know. Now he's hired a bunch of people who are much better
- 1:04:31people than him who have tried to straighten him out. But apparently you can only
- 1:04:34do so much when he's on with Cousin Sal or whoever the fuck that dude
- 1:04:38is. He said Bill Simmons is done. Sorry, this, this headline says Bill
- 1:04:41Simmons is done pretending Colts owner Carly Irsay Gordon being
- 1:04:46on the sideline isn't bonkers. So let's go
- 1:04:50to Mocha and have him pull up the clip of what Bill Simmons said about
- 1:04:53Colts owner Carly Irsay Gordon being on the sideline.
- 1:04:59Line. I'm not going to tiptoe around this anymore. I— and I know it's been
- 1:05:03a topic the last couple weeks— I think the owner on the sidelines taking notes
- 1:05:06is fucking nuts. I think it's nuts.
- 1:05:11I, I think you wouldn't respond. I was pretending you had a crush on her,
- 1:05:14which I completely made it— I think it's bonkers. I can't believe
- 1:05:18she does this, and I can't believe people in her life haven't talked her out
- 1:05:21of it. And Now there's this push of like,
- 1:05:24oh no, no, she's really into it. If a
- 1:05:28male owner was doing this, we would be ridiculing this guy till
- 1:05:32the cows came home. This would be like when Vivek was celebrating
- 1:05:35the Summer League title in the NBA and we thought that was so funny.
- 1:05:39We would think it was so fucking funny if some rich
- 1:05:44guy male owner was on the sideline with a notebook hovering
- 1:05:47over and giving advice to the coach. We'd be like, this guy, even Jerry
- 1:05:50Jones wouldn't do that. Right. And, and Irsay's daughter's doing
- 1:05:54it. We're like, oh yeah, well, you know, she cares about the team. Why are
- 1:05:58we making excuses for how weird this is? I'm not going to—
- 1:06:03Well, Tanya, it turns out I fucking hate him.
- 1:06:06So here's the thing. Here's the thing. I'm done
- 1:06:10pretending that Bill Simmons having a microphone isn't bonkers.
- 1:06:14What the fuck are you talking about? First of all, the idea that,
- 1:06:17like, this is akin to a, like, meddling owner.
- 1:06:21Which— that's the point he made. That's the point the author of the awful announcing
- 1:06:25article made, which is like, oh, I get the fucking— no, she has point-blank
- 1:06:29said several times, I'm not down there telling them how to do their job,
- 1:06:33telling them how to run their football. Like, I'm not, I'm not asking for fucking
- 1:06:36plays, or I am trying to understand exactly where—
- 1:06:40it's like, I know some of you have never done a, like,
- 1:06:43a job where you actually had to try, because some of you are white
- 1:06:46men who failed up because you had just the right amount of fucking frat
- 1:06:49bro humor in 1999 to succeed. But some
- 1:06:54of us understand that when you, when you really fully examine
- 1:06:58the mechanics of like a workflow and what's happening
- 1:07:02and where communication issues might be, that you can be a better fucking boss.
- 1:07:07That's it. She has said this on a microphone
- 1:07:10repeatedly over and over and over again. I don't— I am not interfering
- 1:07:14in football operations. I'm not telling them who they should draft or what fucking plays
- 1:07:17they should run. But as an owner, by the way, I still
- 1:07:21have a job as an owner to make sure my football team is set up
- 1:07:24for success. And part of that is not coming into a room and being like,
- 1:07:28hey, I don't know how this works when you guys are
- 1:07:32calling down from the booth for offensive play calls, or I don't know what's going
- 1:07:35on. Like examining where there might be fucking breakdowns on the sideline.
- 1:07:39By the way, when you're down there, you do see— I don't
- 1:07:43know if anybody's— anybody else has been on an NFL sideline, but what happens down
- 1:07:46there is like There's all kinds of shit that goes wrong. Where's the water bottles?
- 1:07:49Where's the fucking headsets? When did this happen? Where did this go? Why did this
- 1:07:52happen? There's an owner understanding what's happening
- 1:07:56in a football game is not weird.
- 1:08:00This is not Jerry Jones deciding he can be the general manager.
- 1:08:05Bringing Jerry Jones' name up shows— was the most fucking batshit part
- 1:08:09of this entire thing. Jerry wouldn't do this. Jerry's the fucking GM, you fuck.
- 1:08:12Fucking dipshit. Jerry doesn't do that because he wants
- 1:08:15to sit in his fucking luxury suite.
- 1:08:19And by the way, if you don't think Jerry Jones has, has Brian
- 1:08:23Schottenheimer on some fucking like cell phone protocol,
- 1:08:27you're crazy. You think that if Jerry Jones actually,
- 1:08:32if he wanted to call Brian Schottenheimer and say he's
- 1:08:37lined up in shotgun and he's throwing it fucking, that's, this is going to be
- 1:08:40like a corner route. That he wouldn't fucking do it? He probably
- 1:08:44has. He's Jerry Jones. You guys are fucking
- 1:08:47insane, number one. Two, he actively tells
- 1:08:51us he meddles. Jerry Jones literally says,
- 1:08:56I run this team, I do whatever I want, they tell— they do what I
- 1:08:59tell them to do. He doesn't even hide it, to his credit. This is like
- 1:09:02the most— how about this? I got a question for you because again, I don't
- 1:09:05know anything about Bill Simmons's fucking past. Yeah. How many sports teams has he worked
- 1:09:09for? Sports teams? Yeah. Has he ever worked for
- 1:09:13a team in any— did the Celtics hire him? The Red Sox hire
- 1:09:16him? Have the Patriots hired him? Has he ever actually worked in sports outside
- 1:09:20of having a microphone, being from Boston and just being a loudmouth motherfucker? Well,
- 1:09:24I mean, he's in media. Like, I don't— that's great. But like,
- 1:09:28where do you get the fucking balls to sit here and bitch
- 1:09:32about how other people— by the way, owner of the fucking team. You have a
- 1:09:36microphone. You've never played a sport. You never worked in a sport. You, you just
- 1:09:39are a guy from Boston who thinks he fucking knows things. You don't know shit.
- 1:09:43You've never known shit. I, I'm baffled, fucking baffled by
- 1:09:47this. And invoking Jerry Jones's name, of all the fucking people,
- 1:09:50you could have named almost any fucking owner in the fucking sport. Literally, you could
- 1:09:54have fucking named Jimmy Dolan and I would have fucking allowed that more than Jerry
- 1:09:57fucking Jones. There was a Snickers commercial 10 years ago when Phillips
- 1:10:01was the fucking head coach of this team, getting a fucking— a joking thing from
- 1:10:05his offensive coordinator, puts in the play. Jerry Jones gives the offensive
- 1:10:08coordinator a fucking Snickers and then says, now hand me those headphones, and takes over
- 1:10:12as offensive coordinator. That was a fucking commercial. It's also been real life
- 1:10:16for the last 35 fucking years. Like, you're fucking insane.
- 1:10:19You just don't like women doing fucking things. That's your fucking
- 1:10:23problem, and it pisses me off I have to even fucking address it.
- 1:10:27And the funny part is that there's a long history
- 1:10:31of him having a lot to say about Jeannie Buss, for example.
- 1:10:36Of course, why not? A ton of women owners, right? Has he said anything,
- 1:10:39anything about the Intuit deal over there with Kawhi and, and the Ballmer issue?
- 1:10:42I'm sure he has. Like, to be honest, like, probably. Maybe. I haven't heard about
- 1:10:46it. But also, so have the rest of us, right? So it's like, I don't
- 1:10:48fucking know. And again, his shit gets buried unless he's being— so I'm just talking—
- 1:10:53he's not interested. Well, I guess this is— I guess this is the way for
- 1:10:55him to get himself back out there. Carly Irsay is just headphones. Can you believe
- 1:10:59it? Can you believe somebody that owns a multi-billion dollar product wants to know
- 1:11:03how it's fucking running? I can't fucking fathom this.
- 1:11:06Really dumb. Um, so just a reminder, Bill Simmons
- 1:11:10doesn't want— doesn't want people to know how things work.
- 1:11:13So, and you know what, by the way that you've done media for the last
- 1:11:1720 years, Bill, we can tell. We can tell you don't want to know how
- 1:11:20things work. Um, now somebody who looks like who
- 1:11:24makes Bill— someone who makes Bill Simmons look like a Mensa candidate.
- 1:11:27Okay, boy oh boy. By the way, he makes him look like he should be
- 1:11:31nominated for a Pulitzer. Holy hell, you ain't lying. Barstool's Dave Portnoy was pulled
- 1:11:35from Fox's Big Noon Kickoff appearances.
- 1:11:38Um, we used to work there, didn't we? Didn't, didn't they just put
- 1:11:43Ted Cruz on television? Do you know how bad you have to be
- 1:11:47at television to be kicked off of Fox Sports
- 1:11:52He's so bad at TV. So it's really funny because this is something that was
- 1:11:55also an issue for Bill Simmons. They tried to put Bill Simmons on TV.
- 1:11:58I remember his HBO show that lasted all of 5 minutes. They were putting him
- 1:12:01on NBA, on the NBA show, like the pregame, you know, like the panel.
- 1:12:06And it was so bad. The same thing happened. But like, he was just like
- 1:12:09a little less, like slightly less offensive than Dave Portnoy. Again,
- 1:12:14he's really, really bad at TV.
- 1:12:16Anybody on planet Earth would have known that he's he's like not—
- 1:12:21he's not particularly attractive, so I don't know why you'd put him up. Like,
- 1:12:24it's not like there's— there's no reason other
- 1:12:28than to— like, you're just like, I love that he's a bigoted white bro,
- 1:12:31right? Like, we already know that's why he's on TV. My favorite part about this
- 1:12:34was before all this came out, before I tell you guys all like what actually
- 1:12:38happened, Brittany Quinn's kind of been on one lately about like being kind of— oh,
- 1:12:41he hasn't even been trying to hide how much he fucking hates David. But he's
- 1:12:45also been sick about other stuff too. Like, for him, like, there was another thing
- 1:12:48he did. I was like, oh, Brady, okay, all right. I remembered he's, he's married
- 1:12:51to a, uh, a, uh, Boston woman, a Massachusetts— oh, so yeah,
- 1:12:55yeah, he's, he's probably— she's a former, um, US Olympian. Um,
- 1:12:59oh, a female athlete. Oh God. Well, if there's something I know Portnoy
- 1:13:03doesn't like— so, um, he's,
- 1:13:07he's been fed up with some, like, a lot of shit, whatever. Dave Portnoy goes
- 1:13:10on a weird rant about how there's too many lightning delays and essentially
- 1:13:14like these are a bunch of pussies, they should be playing through lightning.
- 1:13:18And like, what if even if you like do a lightning delay, it could just
- 1:13:21strike you if you're sitting in the crowd and you've left? It was like insane.
- 1:13:26And Brady Quinn just goes, I wish you'd get struck by lightning,
- 1:13:29Dave. And he said it dead serious.
- 1:13:33He is so over it. Oh dude, I, I— so you know what sucks?
- 1:13:36Like, like, listen, Brady Quinn had a career that you know, unique. It was— it
- 1:13:40didn't go the way it was supposed to. The— but like, Brady Quinn was
- 1:13:43an NFL quarterback. Like, he was a guy that was drafted, granted not in
- 1:13:47the first round, and that was a rough night. I remember that draft night.
- 1:13:49But I gotta say, like, Brady Quinn is really, in my opinion, what— based
- 1:13:54on what I've seen, has really done a decent job in the media. So I,
- 1:13:56I've met Brady Quinn. Um, I, I met him a couple of times
- 1:14:00at Fox. Nice guy. Um, super nice. Good to hear. Super handsome. Very,
- 1:14:03very cool. Very handsome. Um, I, I met Matt Leinart
- 1:14:07like briefly, not as like overtly nice but also not
- 1:14:11a dick or anything like that. Also handsome and like whatever, like cool
- 1:14:16dudes, accomplished, we know their names, they're great TV guys.
- 1:14:20So I also, if I were Dave Portnoy who had to be on that broadcast
- 1:14:24with like actual football players, oh, I'd fucking be— it'd be a nightmare.
- 1:14:27It'd be a fucking nightmare. Like truly, like that, that job that Dave is in
- 1:14:31is like is for somebody that's been in
- 1:14:34the industry in some facet. Like, I— it's,
- 1:14:38it's the court jester. But here's the thing, you would imagine being cast as
- 1:14:41the court jester and knowing it, but he's not a court jester.
- 1:14:45Yes, he is. He's not funny. Oh no, the court jester isn't
- 1:14:49there to be funny. They're there to humiliate themselves for the king.
- 1:14:52Who's the king? Us.
- 1:14:56It's not working. Yeah, he did. Oh no, he humiliates
- 1:15:00himself, but it's not fun. No, it's It was never fun. I don't
- 1:15:04think you know what a court jester was really doing. But okay. Anyways, Dave Portnoy,
- 1:15:08like they basically say Fox's
- 1:15:12big noon kickoff pregame show, they're not doing it. They're not putting him
- 1:15:15on the show anymore. The person talked to AP on condition of anonymity because the
- 1:15:18decision had not been publicly announced at the time. The Athletic was the first to
- 1:15:21report it. The Barstool Sports founder said on social media that
- 1:15:26it was Ohio State coach Ryan Day who forced Fox Sports
- 1:15:30to take him off the show. He said juice wasn't worth the squeeze, and frankly,
- 1:15:33I don't blame them. Huge dollars at stake and you have Cryin' Ryan throwing
- 1:15:37temper tantrums and making threats every few days on something I say,
- 1:15:41Portnoy said in his post. Fox Sports had no comment. Ohio State referred
- 1:15:45all questions about Portnoy to Fox Sports. Now,
- 1:15:49first of all, he's doing like the Trump thing, like giving someone a nickname for
- 1:15:52no reason. We know he's a huge Michigan fan. Fox didn't bring him on thinking
- 1:15:56he was going to be normal about Ohio State. None of this has to do
- 1:15:59with Ryan Day. I don't even like Ryan Day, but this is fucking stupid.
- 1:16:02Yeah. One of our, like, best followers and biggest supporters
- 1:16:06at Black Girls Love Fantasy, our girl JJ, said,
- 1:16:10is traditional sports media dead? It doesn't matter where I listen.
- 1:16:14I get more honest news and takes from independent sports journalists than the mainstream.
- 1:16:17ESPN and my local sports radio stations are both unlistenable.
- 1:16:20We get— we keep getting told that women's teams have to earn
- 1:16:24their coverage in cities where the team successes are eclipsing the men. Is this
- 1:16:28just late-stage capitalism and terrible hot take and terrible
- 1:16:32hot takes get the money? Yeah. In my opinion,
- 1:16:35it's not dead. It's not completely dead. It's— they're trying to kill it,
- 1:16:39but it is in hospice care. Yeah, it is.
- 1:16:42How about this? It's the places you're looking. It is dead. If you're looking
- 1:16:46at ESPN, if you're looking at Fox Sports, dead. It's more than dead. Dead and
- 1:16:48buried. That's not what they do. Those are full-on entertainment brands, period. Stop.
- 1:16:52That's what they're trying to do. It's hot take. It's clickbait. It's all honestly all
- 1:16:55nonsense and bullshit. But there are people that are very much trying to
- 1:16:59do the job. Well, that's what she said. She's, she's looking at independent.
- 1:17:03It's the only place you can look. People that are like really doing
- 1:17:06their own thing. That's that. She is finding great content. You have to find it.
- 1:17:10But yeah, she's— I mean, like, or people who are sort of these
- 1:17:13offshoots of major brands. Like Pablo Torre is affiliated,
- 1:17:16right, with The Athletic, I believe, right? I believe so.
- 1:17:20But he is his own entity. He is independent journalism, like,
- 1:17:23really and truly. At the end of the day, he doesn't answer to a corporate
- 1:17:27overlord in the same way that people at ESPN and Fox do.
- 1:17:30Um, and I do think that— I, I think
- 1:17:34that the sports landscape has changed so quickly that her question makes a lot of
- 1:17:37sense to me. Because, like, for a while we were doing the, like, normal conversation
- 1:17:42about, like, the first take-ification of sports television,
- 1:17:45and it felt like that was its own thing, but we could still find like
- 1:17:49normal shit to watch on TV from these networks.
- 1:17:54Even the shows I was working on, like, they, they weren't—
- 1:17:59this is an unrecognizable sports media landscape to me from
- 1:18:043 years ago. Like, to be quite honest, no, you're not wrong. It's gone,
- 1:18:09it's gone downhill very quickly. It is Trump-related.
- 1:18:13It is like this like fascist media takeover related. Yep. It is,
- 1:18:17um, gambling and advertising in that space and the prediction markets
- 1:18:21related. Yep. And it has all happened very, very quickly. So the whiplash
- 1:18:25for people, I think, is like, holy fuck, I went from like being able to
- 1:18:29sometimes tune into this to it being so completely useless to
- 1:18:33me that I don't know what to do. Now I feel like there is
- 1:18:37like— that is going to like— I think this is such an extreme swing that
- 1:18:40there is going to be a backlash. I think you're right. Um, but in the
- 1:18:43meantime, I just don't know how long it's gonna take. That, that's the thing.
- 1:18:46This is— or if we're gonna last long enough to fucking see it, right?
- 1:18:49Like, I mean, are we gonna be— are we gonna be out there foraging for
- 1:18:52our own mushrooms by the time the fuck— like, I mean, we're at— we're not—
- 1:18:56you and I can't— Mocha can't sleep because the fuck— it's too hot outside.
- 1:19:00Like, we are— we live in a place that used to be 75 and sunny
- 1:19:04most of the year, never higher, never lower. It's been 100 all week on the
- 1:19:07west side. It's 100 in October. Shit's going to hell.
- 1:19:11We might not make it to see where this all goes. But in the meantime,
- 1:19:14presidents daring countries we're in war with to
- 1:19:19bomb literally 2 of our major cities on the West Coast. The regulars
- 1:19:23might be over. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, listen, we might have seconds.
- 1:19:26I don't know. Yeah. We have no idea if we're really
- 1:19:30going to make it another day over here with foreign countries getting
- 1:19:34the okay. I mean, they got the okay, which is a fucking wild thing to
- 1:19:37say out loud. I can't believe this is fucking
- 1:19:40wild. Um, I think that like we just finally got to our, you know,
- 1:19:44our goals on some— on, uh, yeah, we finally reached it. So really
- 1:19:48it is a good time to take us out, I guess. Yeah, at least our
- 1:19:51Wikipedia page will say that we had reached 1,200 subscribers
- 1:19:55on YouTube. Oh yeah, of course, we will die on top.
- 1:19:59That's all that matters. But, but to her point, like, yeah,
- 1:20:03you have to like really care. And I think that that's why I
- 1:20:06feel really so happy about what we're bringing to the,
- 1:20:09to the table, because we're not, um, content creators. We're people from the media
- 1:20:13and from sports that are doing independent content and media. Yeah.
- 1:20:17And like, there's actually like, it's like there's only 10
- 1:20:22or 12 like really great shows doing the similar stuff with people who have been
- 1:20:25in the media or been athletes or both that are doing real
- 1:20:29sports talk and conversation. It's also part of the reason why,
- 1:20:33like, I've resisted even like bringing on guests onto the show because
- 1:20:36I feel so much like we have constantly have so much to talk about that
- 1:20:40people are begging for, like, from us. They need to hear something.
- 1:20:43They need to hear some sort of reality around sports because it's not real.
- 1:20:46I know we could bring in these people and we will, we will, we will.
- 1:20:50But like lately people have just been craving like normal conversation.
- 1:20:54Um, and there's a reason for that. It is because, like, I, I hate to
- 1:20:59say this, it's, it's this massive world where the guys— like, we did a
- 1:21:03thing, like, it must have been like 3 months ago, where you put up a,
- 1:21:05put up a graphic of, like, which one of the— if you had to get
- 1:21:08rid of 2 of these guys, and it was like 9 of the, the people
- 1:21:11you just hate in sports media. It was like the Pat McAfees, it was the
- 1:21:14Stephen A. Smiths. But, like, we both, like, went through, like, no, Pat was a
- 1:21:18player, and, like, he's in that— he on this list. Stephen A.
- 1:21:21Smith, I may hate the shit, but like, he was a journalist. He could stay
- 1:21:25on this list because I looked out throughout that list and Dave Portnoy's on this
- 1:21:28list, right? Dave Portnoy has no business being in sports even a little.
- 1:21:31Like, literally no fucking business. Zero business.
- 1:21:34It, it makes me really fucking sick that my former— our former
- 1:21:39employer Fox employs him to do fucking anything. It's a joke. It's a fucking joke.
- 1:21:42He's like— he is evidence that we've
- 1:21:46been in late-stage capitalism since about 2010, because the rise
- 1:21:50of Dave Portnoy was one thing that was a problem. But for him to be
- 1:21:53elevated to this point, the platforming— when I say I— at
- 1:21:57one point Bill Simmons was at least an interesting writer, even if he wasn't like—
- 1:22:01at least he had fucking talent. Like, we are talking about— we are talking
- 1:22:04about the most talentless person that's ever risen
- 1:22:09to prominence, brings in zero to the table. And it's not even
- 1:22:12close. He has— he doesn't have an intellectual take of any kind,
- 1:22:16doesn't even have a funny take of any kind. He just bitches and
- 1:22:20moans. And he— and honestly, the only time he's even remotely interesting— and I am,
- 1:22:24by the way, being sarcastic— is when he goes on Megyn Kelly's show,
- 1:22:27which is just such a wonderful show. Um, I can't stress this enough,
- 1:22:31has no fucking business in this industry. It is insane
- 1:22:35that anyone employs them. Fox should be embarrassed, but I know
- 1:22:38them, they have no fucking He's— he is quite literally the worst person
- 1:22:42to ever rise to any prominence. I am blown away this is—
- 1:22:45we're still in this world. I can't believe Barstool is still a thing. It's really
- 1:22:49fucking wild. And not even that, like, both ESPN and Fox Sports have tried
- 1:22:53to make it a thing repeatedly. They will not let it go.
- 1:22:57They want to fratify and bro-ify
- 1:23:00and massage-ify their fucking content so badly,
- 1:23:04and then, then they do it and they're like, Oh, this is rough. And you're
- 1:23:08like, oh my God, it's like, holy fucking shit, just have good
- 1:23:12people talking about sports. That's how you fucking existed. Like, holy shit,
- 1:23:15you had a golden era of just talking about sports.
- 1:23:19You're crazy. You love misogyny and white men so much, you love power so much
- 1:23:23that you're willing to tank your own product. You're willing to
- 1:23:27tank your own reputations as executives. You are willing to do all of
- 1:23:31that just to shove a 5'9 red-faced
- 1:23:36loudmouth misogynist with fucking fake yarn injected
- 1:23:40into his scalp, by the way, into our face. That dogshit
- 1:23:44hair plugs. He's got seriously bad hair plugs.
- 1:23:48Okay, I'll stop ranting. You had your— well,
- 1:23:51he's got bad hair plugs. Okay, as a guy that looked into getting them.
- 1:23:55Um, all right, we— I think we said everything we need to say. Let's go
- 1:23:58to Pop Culture Corner. Let's do it. Finally, something fun to talk about!
- 1:24:01Lanterns is the fucking best show. It is so good.
- 1:24:05It is so good. You know what, Tanya? You were right.
- 1:24:08You were right. You were right. I was wrong. I was completely wrong.
- 1:24:12I was very excited to see Kyle Chandler in the role because I thought he
- 1:24:15looked like he was gonna be an interesting Hal Jordan. I didn't fucking realize that
- 1:24:20we were talking about modern-day fucking Brando with the fucking performance we got out
- 1:24:24of this guy. Hal Jordan's performance by fucking Kyle Chandler
- 1:24:27is— should win every Emmy available. Anything you
- 1:24:31can nominate him for— cinematography, fucking nominate Kyle
- 1:24:35Chandler. Didn't hold a camera, just by being on camera, don't care. He was just
- 1:24:39on camera and he was the cinematography. This was such a good
- 1:24:42fucking show with such good performances, and I do mean this by everyone.
- 1:24:47This is— it was a tour de force from everyone. The story
- 1:24:51was interesting, the story was intricate, the story was
- 1:24:56different. And that's the other thing, and this is something I really want— I'm gonna
- 1:24:59get into with this. I am a DC fanatic. I have
- 1:25:02thousands of DC comics. To be 100% fair, you actually don't need to get that
- 1:25:06into it about how much of a DC fanatic you are. To be fair,
- 1:25:11our viewers do know that. My point is that there is— please don't.
- 1:25:15My point is simply this. You were just saying that like to
- 1:25:19paint a picture of who I'm gonna yell at. Well, and to establish that like
- 1:25:22like you are coming from this not just as a like TV watcher fan,
- 1:25:26which, which I am. You're coming at it from like, this was my favorite— Green
- 1:25:30Lantern is my favorite comic. My favorite comic. I, uh, the, the run, the Kyle
- 1:25:34Rayner run in the '90s, Emerald Twilight before that. Oh God, hold on.
- 1:25:38The Geoff Johns runs in Rebirth and everything that happened with the Sinestro War
- 1:25:41into Darkest Night. All of these things. Remember, we have a show,
- 1:25:44we have a pop culture show not full of DC nerds. Please keep
- 1:25:48it, keep it, guys. Those of you that are not DC nerds, like like pathetic
- 1:25:52meme. Um, you'll notice online the worst grouping—
- 1:25:56there are a lot of bad fandoms. There's a lot of bad fandoms. Marvel fans
- 1:25:58can be fucking nightmares. No one's worse than Star Wars. Star Wars fans are by
- 1:26:03far the worst. I, I don't think— I'm gonna push back. I'm gonna push back.
- 1:26:05You think it's worse? I think DC's worse. Okay, I'm gonna tell you why DC's
- 1:26:08worse. And Mocha, let me hear if you got anything on this, because DC fans
- 1:26:12are so weirdly defied— like divided within themselves because
- 1:26:16there are so many Zack Zack Snyder bros that are like hidden within that,
- 1:26:19and they're a bunch of fucking weird-ass incels. They're like, man, Zack Snyder would
- 1:26:23never have done this, James Gunn needs to be fired. As if the fucking Zack
- 1:26:28Snyder run of movies were the fucking greatest thing. Most of them were dog shit.
- 1:26:31I liked Man of Steel, I tolerated Batman v Superman.
- 1:26:36I will say Zack Snyder's cut, 4.5-hour cut of Justice
- 1:26:39League, I really, really, really like. How are you gonna say Zack Snyder's cut
- 1:26:43when The Snyder Cut is a zeitgeist thing. It is a zeitgeist thing.
- 1:26:47Sorry, the Snyder Cut I actually really did like, but outside
- 1:26:51of that, the majority of the DC run was not very good,
- 1:26:55and it was ushered in by Zack Snyder.
- 1:26:58Hold on, let Cody cook. They're so mad at me for cutting you
- 1:27:02off about your team. See, you're wrong. I'm fucking right.
- 1:27:06The worst thing in the world is these fucking DC fanboys that are like,
- 1:27:09they're ruining Hal Jordan! They're ruining Green
- 1:27:13Lantern! Why aren't they more green? Why aren't they flying more?
- 1:27:17Shut the fuck up, you fucking babies! Do you have any
- 1:27:21idea? And we were talking about this before the show. We were like, it looks
- 1:27:23like they're trying to set up the parallax thing, but honestly, they can't set up
- 1:27:26the parallax thing. Why? It would take 10 fucking years of storytelling to do!
- 1:27:2910 fucking years! We're gonna be lucky if we get another season of this,
- 1:27:32you dumb fucks! Anyways, this show was incredible. I loved
- 1:27:36it. I can't wait to see where it's going in the future. My only complaint
- 1:27:39is I'm scared we're not gonna get more Hal Jordan because Hal Jordan,
- 1:27:43spoiler alert, is dead right now. Have you seen The Watchmen?
- 1:27:47The TV show Watchmen? Yes, it was a very— it was also Lindelof who did
- 1:27:51that too on HBO. It was great. It was great stuff. Great stuff. No,
- 1:27:54we, we might not get Hal. Um, I want to actually talk about the show
- 1:27:58and not just that. Um, let's talk about the fact that number
- 1:28:01one, one of our viewer suggestions Said Matt Rhule being canon
- 1:28:06in the DCEU. Yeah, dude, isn't this a problem?
- 1:28:09Dude's fucking recruiting Manhunters and he still can't win
- 1:28:13the Big Ten. When I ever— when they shot to Matt
- 1:28:17Rhule in the crowd and it was actually Matt Rhule, I was like, no fucking
- 1:28:19way. So now Matt Rhule is DC,
- 1:28:22failed Carolina Panthers head coach and iconic apparently Nebraska
- 1:28:27baby. DC canon. He is going to be coaching Noah the Manhunter. The, uh,
- 1:28:30the, uh, delightful, sweet-hearted Manhunter.
- 1:28:34Yes, who doesn't want to kill. God, I love that story. Um, very sweet boy.
- 1:28:37Um, so Matt Ruhle's canon, guys.
- 1:28:41That is crazy. The least cool motherfucker I could possibly think of.
- 1:28:45Like, you could have put anybody in there, but it was Nebraska. You had to
- 1:28:48do it. Yeah, I get it. The Huskers. Um, let's talk
- 1:28:52about— I want to talk about, um,
- 1:28:56The ending. I think if this is gonna be spoiler alert in
- 1:29:00case anybody hasn't watched it, yes, I think that
- 1:29:03we have a lot of thoughts about like, we can, we can talk all we
- 1:29:06want about where the show is going or whatever, but let's deal with the show
- 1:29:08on its merits. Let's not talk about fucking DC, you know,
- 1:29:12nerds. Let's talk about the show we were given, how we feel about
- 1:29:15it. Um, I thought that the final scene between
- 1:29:21Jon Stewart and the hologram was really
- 1:29:25an exceptional example of
- 1:29:29how you can create moments out
- 1:29:34of something that's like really small in a situation where we would imagine huge set
- 1:29:37pieces and these like big, fine, like grand finales.
- 1:29:41Those moments between the two of them were like,
- 1:29:44it was like everything we ever wanted to possibly see from
- 1:29:47Jon and Hal that we didn't know we were gonna get. And I love that.
- 1:29:51I love what— but they did it believably. They didn't fan service us.
- 1:29:54It was the right way to do it. That's how I felt about that final
- 1:29:58scene. How did you feel about the final interaction between John? I legitimately cried.
- 1:30:02Me too. I, I had tears. We're both crying. Um, I, I gotta say,
- 1:30:05man, that, that final interaction was just perfect. And if it's how it
- 1:30:09ends, it's a great ending. Um, I don't want it to
- 1:30:12end because Kyle Chandler is so good. Aaron Pierre is so good in
- 1:30:16this. I'm really excited where it's going. It's just story-wise,
- 1:30:20I thought it was interesting choices that they made. By the way, the fans were
- 1:30:24like, this would never happen. Dipshits, all of this has
- 1:30:27actually happened in the comics. Exactly what Jon Stewart is doing right
- 1:30:31now, he's like, but he would be— he's a soldier. Did you pay attention
- 1:30:35to the story at all? This is the other thing about DC fanboys and girls
- 1:30:39that I don't get. Have any of you guys seen Marvel movies?
- 1:30:42Um, Tony Stark has never once said
- 1:30:45before that movie that he was Iron Man. That was just for the movie.
- 1:30:49That was like breaking away from Marvel Comics entirely.
- 1:30:53Um, the Guardians of the Galaxy movie couldn't have been less canon
- 1:30:57to the Marvel Comics if you tried. Now Marvel
- 1:31:00Comics has retroactively turned the Guardians of the Galaxy into what James Gunn
- 1:31:04created. Like, it's just fucking madness. Like, these stories
- 1:31:08that need to be interpreted and interpreted for a modern-day audience. And the
- 1:31:12story they wanted to tell was this, and it was a phenomenal story. It was
- 1:31:14a great buddy cop story. It was a great detective story. It was,
- 1:31:19it was just really, really, really great. It was a great character
- 1:31:23story. And that's the thing about these, these comics that I think people really get—
- 1:31:26we didn't see enough space travel. You got character,
- 1:31:30which is what these stories actually are. If you want space travel
- 1:31:33and you don't want to see an adaptation that is grounded in a Western,
- 1:31:36then just don't watch Lanterns. Yeah, like, I don't watch the Green Lantern starring
- 1:31:39Ryan Reynolds and have fun with that, I guess. Why does everybody act
- 1:31:44like an adaptation has to be fan service
- 1:31:48to them when the whole thing is that it's supposed to be different from
- 1:31:52comic books? If it was going to mirror what comic books did, then just
- 1:31:55read comic books. It is meant to expand
- 1:31:59the universe into a different place you have not experienced. If you don't want to
- 1:32:03experience Literally no one is fucking waterboarding you to make you fucking do it.
- 1:32:07You don't have to. If you don't want to watch a, like, beautifully shot,
- 1:32:11beautifully acted Western about a fucking superhero,
- 1:32:14don't. Don't.
- 1:32:18That— you are not under duress. The only
- 1:32:21thing that's been established into your canon is like a couple— is
- 1:32:25a fucking oath and like a couple of other— like,
- 1:32:29this has not changed your world. By the way, everything will be fine. And I
- 1:32:32would like to talk about the fucking oath, because I think
- 1:32:36that that oath in that moment was actually so beautiful.
- 1:32:41I think that it— the way that
- 1:32:44they did it was they told John's relationship to the ring and
- 1:32:48to arriving at embracing the ring and wanting the ring, and his relationship to
- 1:32:52the fucking, like, taking— like, becoming a— essentially
- 1:32:56becoming a Lantern on his own, like deciding, I am a Lantern because I,
- 1:32:59like, whatever. All of it is in that oath. It's an homage to
- 1:33:03the original, obviously, the actual oath. But then it's also a
- 1:33:07story about his, like, his journey there, his,
- 1:33:10his, you know, where his Blackness
- 1:33:15and his identity has fallen in this whole journey and all those ways that he
- 1:33:19has dealt with that, his relationship with Hal.
- 1:33:22In brightest day and darkest night, I'll embrace my fear.
- 1:33:25I'll do what's right. I choose this ring. I choose this fight
- 1:33:29in service to this lantern's light. That is everything.
- 1:33:34That's perfect. It could not have been written more perfectly. It could not have
- 1:33:37told who he is more perfectly. And the
- 1:33:41I'll embrace my fear ties in a lot to the
- 1:33:45Yellow Lantern stuff, to what's eventually probably going to happen in this
- 1:33:49show down the road with Sinestro. Like, this is a fucking
- 1:33:52perfect oath. Get a grip.
- 1:33:56By the way, those of you that are DC fanboys and girls are complaining,
- 1:34:00how dare he change the oath? Motherfucker, you've never read a— you've never read a
- 1:34:03fucking Green Lantern comic. No, they have. No, they clearly haven't because they
- 1:34:06have so many different oaths throughout the canon. Because it's not the,
- 1:34:10the oath that John Stewart took in the comics. That's what they mean.
- 1:34:14Okay, so here's the thing, John Stewart— stupid. And again, I don't care. John Stewart
- 1:34:18has been a renegade Lantern many, many times in the comics. Need the fucking— I'm
- 1:34:21not going to, but my point is this: the character arc of this story
- 1:34:25was about a guy who only took orders, waited for orders,
- 1:34:29and then finally we see in the show— and which you see in the show,
- 1:34:32this is the story arc— a guy that is just waiting for his orders and
- 1:34:35only taking his orders and handling his orders. As the story goes on, the one
- 1:34:38thing he did learn from Hal, even though he lost respect for Hal throughout the
- 1:34:41process, was that Hal was not taking orders anymore. He really was a renegade,
- 1:34:44but had reasons being it. And John got just
- 1:34:48just as jaded through the process as Hal kind of was. And at the very
- 1:34:50end, how John coming, coming full circle in that beautiful moment
- 1:34:54with Hal where he learns that he doesn't need to take orders, he is his
- 1:34:57own man. There was a moment in that episode where he's driving in the car
- 1:35:00where he wanted the hologram to come back. He's like, I really— Hal, are you
- 1:35:03there? And he didn't show up. He's like, I really need you right now,
- 1:35:05man, I really do. And then John goes and takes care of it and makes
- 1:35:08his own decision. At the very end, the hologram does show up. He's like,
- 1:35:11I was here. He just didn't need him. It was all about him being
- 1:35:14his own man, no longer being a product of his parents,
- 1:35:18no longer being a product of the fucking Guardians, no longer even being a product
- 1:35:21of Hal. Being him fucking self and fucking owning
- 1:35:25it. And it was fucking perfect. It was perfect. I wouldn't
- 1:35:29have changed a goddamn thing. The only thing I would have liked to have seen—
- 1:35:31sure, would I have liked to have seen him in the Green Lantern costume?
- 1:35:35Sure. Am I mad about it? No. Man of Tomorrow comes out in like
- 1:35:38fucking 8 months. I'll see it then. It would— in the amount of time they
- 1:35:42had, that would have been so weird. When would we have seen it? Like,
- 1:35:44that would have robbed us of like us ending on him becoming the Lamb.
- 1:35:49It was cool. End on it. So we can't, you know, we can't put it
- 1:35:52in there. Um, but my one critique I will say
- 1:35:56is that I do think— I,
- 1:35:59I love the arc of Noah. I do
- 1:36:04think that that was the weakest acting performance. He was the weakest acting performance.
- 1:36:06And And that's a little rough considering, like you said, there was
- 1:36:10some heartbreaking stuff there. He asks Jon Stewart— I did
- 1:36:13like his final scene. I did like his final scene. I mean, it was like,
- 1:36:16like a really heartbreaking, like, whole thing
- 1:36:20that he was dealing with. And then we get to see what— what I love
- 1:36:23is that we get to see what Jon deciding to
- 1:36:28risk, you know, sparing Noah's life, what that gives him,
- 1:36:32right? Like, we see him put on the Nebraska hat and that like we,
- 1:36:35we believe that this kid is somebody who's going to fight his programming and
- 1:36:39going to be a better person and going to be the person that he wants
- 1:36:43to be. Um, who knows if he'll ever come back into
- 1:36:47the fold in this particular avenue, in this area, in this canon.
- 1:36:50But like, I just, I think that
- 1:36:54considering how many like incredible young performance performers
- 1:36:58I've seen across television like recently, it really lacking for me.
- 1:37:02It was— but the character himself was great, was great.
- 1:37:05And there were moments where I think he, he stepped up a little bit.
- 1:37:08I— it's hard when you're acting with a bunch of fucking monsters,
- 1:37:11man. I will tell you, Aaron Pierre was great. And like, then you've got fucking
- 1:37:15like just like a murderer's row of like
- 1:37:19just— it was great actors acting. So, but I do think the scene
- 1:37:23he needed to hit was the car scene, and he did. I thought it was
- 1:37:26good. I actually don't Agree. Okay, I thought, I thought he did a good— I
- 1:37:29think, I think what saved it, and what, and what you're attaching yourself to,
- 1:37:32which is what I attach myself to, was the, like,
- 1:37:35the writing of that moment and, like, the timing of it and the way that
- 1:37:39they shot it. Acting-wise, like, I just, I do think it was a little
- 1:37:43flat. He was, um, and I— but I
- 1:37:46also see a ton of potential in the kid, to be quite honest. Like,
- 1:37:48I don't see somebody who's, like, doesn't have potential. I just— it's really hard to
- 1:37:52watch a bunch of people act their asses off and then And then someone's just
- 1:37:56like, not right there, not wrong. But man, this, this show was just great.
- 1:37:59And then John's final decision and, uh,
- 1:38:02just the, um, man, the thing that the hologram said to him at the end.
- 1:38:06Because the hologram— okay, I'm sure you caught this plenty of times— the
- 1:38:10hologram only referred to John as trainee, never called him junior.
- 1:38:13Not one time did the hologram call him junior until the very
- 1:38:17last line. Yeah, man, that hit. Which makes you wonder
- 1:38:20How do you know to call him that? Makes you wonder, doesn't it? It makes
- 1:38:24you wonder. And just saying, as much as they keep saying Hal's dead, there is
- 1:38:28precedent. They said it in the episode. There's precedent to bring him back. There's precedent.
- 1:38:33It's there. Well, Cody, do it, James Gunn.
- 1:38:37I gotta be honest, this is a good show. We went long, but we're— of
- 1:38:40course, we had NFL and Lanterns. What were we supposed to do? I'm really thrilled
- 1:38:43that everyone was not happy with you shutting me down. Oh, let him cook.
- 1:38:46Not only that, they were like, they're like, Come on, let him get like weird
- 1:38:49with it. And I'm like, I don't think you guys understand, I did this for
- 1:38:5225 minutes before the show started. Like, this will go rogue and we have a—
- 1:38:56I'm not trying to like shut down his creativity. We literally
- 1:38:59have a time limit for the show. It's not— I love— we
- 1:39:03just need to decide. Shutting me down. This is bullshit. She's shutting me down.
- 1:39:06All right, let's get the fuck out of here. Listen. Yes? What are
- 1:39:10the last 3 words that I ever said?
- 1:39:15Fuck you, Kurt Schilling. That's— fuck you, Kurt Schilling. That's 4.
