- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to a DM podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: We'll try to keep it as nice as we can,
- 0:05Speaker 2: but you might hear the occasional swear word in No Dribble.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Don't tell them.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Hello and welcome to No Dribble Podcast. I'm Carolyn Spindel,
- 0:24Speaker 2: writer and comedian. I'm joined as always by two women
- 0:27Speaker 2: who've talked quite a bit of nonsense in their time,
- 0:29Speaker 2: but still make more sense than the Mavericks mascot being
- 0:31Speaker 2: a six foot blue unicorn. Those women are, of course,
- 0:37Speaker 2: Catherine co and Liz Allas.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I've seen a few six foot blue unicorns with Catherine
- 0:41Speaker 1: at sort of three am.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Yeah, that's about when you were talking a bit of nonsense, right, Nothing.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Good happens at three am.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Him in the flesh, him hurt?
- 0:50Speaker 2: What is it?
- 0:51Speaker 3: I don't have quite inspection.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I've done a bit of investigation and it's Goose the unicorn.
- 0:57Speaker 2: So they're referencing Maverick obviously, so I would have and
- 1:00Speaker 2: that means that Goose is male or non binary.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Well I was going to say, like DoD mascots have genders,
- 1:07Speaker 1: and wouldn't it be appropriate for women's sport to have
- 1:10Speaker 1: female gendered mascots?
- 1:12Speaker 4: Yeah, well, remember our Swift way back had decent sized
- 1:16Speaker 4: boobs and lipstick, that's right, remember, Yeah, And it was
- 1:21Speaker 4: actually it was a Birdy Swift is a bird.
- 1:24Speaker 1: It was.
- 1:24Speaker 2: One of the things I would really like to unpack
- 1:26Speaker 2: is Sporty Swift. I think it is time for her
- 1:29Speaker 2: to be retired. I have some views on all of
- 1:32Speaker 2: the mascots that I would like to discuss, but we
- 1:34Speaker 2: don't have to come to that immediately, obviously, do you.
- 1:37Speaker 4: Know what we need to do? We need to do
- 1:38Speaker 4: it because I think they did it at the Mavericks game.
- 1:40Speaker 4: Actually on the weekend they had a mascot race.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:43Speaker 4: I reckon there's got to be some sort of competition
- 1:45Speaker 4: with only the strongest survive. So if you're not equipped
- 1:49Speaker 4: to run and do handstands and you know, be athletic,
- 1:51Speaker 4: then you're gone.
- 1:52Speaker 2: I would have thought the unicorn's horn is problematic for handstands.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Well, they're also apparently. I remember with the old Swift,
- 1:58Speaker 1: that bird. It was always Julie his Gerald's kids who
- 2:01Speaker 1: had to be in it, and they hated it because
- 2:02Speaker 1: it was one hundred degrees who was small enough to
- 2:06Speaker 1: be in it?
- 2:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:07Speaker 4: The funniest thing was I was dating one of the
- 2:09Speaker 4: Sydney Kings way back in the day, and their mascot
- 2:12Speaker 4: is the Lion. I don't know if you've ever been
- 2:14Speaker 4: to a basketball game, but it's the best. He does flips,
- 2:17Speaker 4: he's in the crowd. He's really good. But this guy
- 2:19Speaker 4: was an accountant so by day, very serious and professional,
- 2:23Speaker 4: and that was his chance to just go and let
- 2:25Speaker 4: Louis and nobody knew who it was.
- 2:28Speaker 3: How good's that?
- 2:29Speaker 2: I do want no dribble to look at the issue
- 2:31Speaker 2: of the mascots and the appropriateness of it, and I'm
- 2:34Speaker 2: prepared to be challenged on my views on it. But
- 2:37Speaker 2: first of all, we should probably do a bit of
- 2:38Speaker 2: a catch up. Anyone had anything notable happened this week?
- 2:41Speaker 4: Well, Elizabeth, I know we typically do our little shout
- 2:45Speaker 4: outs at the end, but you will love this one.
- 2:47Speaker 4: I have been contacted on socials by your Little Lady's
- 2:52Speaker 4: bathroom line friend. If you don't know what I'm talking about,
- 2:57Speaker 4: you'll have to listen to last week. But in a nutshell,
- 3:00Speaker 4: Liz was waiting in the queue outside the women's toilets
- 3:03Speaker 4: and you got a costed and we got hit up
- 3:05Speaker 4: or whatever you like.
- 3:06Speaker 1: So it's just a chat, just a chat.
- 3:07Speaker 2: We have a good conversation.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Lots of good chats happened in the lady's toilet line
- 3:11Speaker 1: they do.
- 3:12Speaker 3: And this was at a netball carnival though.
- 3:14Speaker 4: But she was saying that she was unhappy with the
- 3:16Speaker 4: swearing because she was in the car listening.
- 3:18Speaker 2: To it, right, I think that's overstating it.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I think she would just mentioned that she couldn't
- 3:22Speaker 1: didn't feel like she could listen to it with her
- 3:24Speaker 1: fourteen fifteen year old daughter.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Well, I'm pleased to announce that Carla Nightingale has gotten
- 3:29Speaker 4: in touch with me. She's out of herself, she said, haha,
- 3:33Speaker 4: listening this morning, Liz, that was me in the toilet. Omg, loll.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Sorry but then she's gone. Ps I continue to listen
- 3:42Speaker 4: without the twelve year old.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Yes, yes, excellent work, Carlo. Thank you so much, and
- 3:46Speaker 1: you know we always accept your feedback. And I spend
- 3:48Speaker 1: a lot of time at carnivals. I was at the
- 3:50Speaker 1: Whoopee Carnival on the weekend. Now here's a little story. Well,
- 3:54Speaker 1: Google in northern New South Wales, just north north of
- 3:57Speaker 1: Coffs Harbor has a large seak population and so the
- 4:00Speaker 1: Indian Fiting War Google who is outstanding And we have
- 4:02Speaker 1: voted the wool Googa Netball Association Cardinals having the best
- 4:06Speaker 1: carnival food of any association. And I will not take
- 4:10Speaker 1: any arguments on that. Outstanding. But a chicken all day fantastic, right?
- 4:15Speaker 3: Don't know that you want to eat that if you're
- 4:16Speaker 3: playing though, do you?
- 4:17Speaker 1: Oh? Well, I don't know. My daughter seemed to do
- 4:19Speaker 1: all right.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Oh I didn't repeat well, but.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I might have. But I wasn't playing against us side
- 4:25Speaker 1: a secret weapon. It could be a secret weapon. So yeah, outstanding.
- 4:29Speaker 1: And I did get lots of feedback from people who
- 4:31Speaker 1: are loving the podcast, but you maybe don't listen to
- 4:33Speaker 1: it with a twelve year old.
- 4:34Speaker 2: It's more for the Carlas of the world than Carla's
- 4:37Speaker 2: twelve year old daughters of the world.
- 4:38Speaker 1: We are.
- 4:39Speaker 4: That is true exactly, which brings me to the next story.
- 4:42Speaker 4: So I had a couple of games on the weekend
- 4:44Speaker 4: on the road. I was in the Sunny Coast on
- 4:45Speaker 4: Saturday and then Brisbane on Sunday, and I tootled off
- 4:49Speaker 4: to the toilet to do my pregame Wii because there's
- 4:51Speaker 4: nothing worse than being on air for two two and
- 4:53Speaker 4: a half hours and then realizing you have to go
- 4:55Speaker 4: to the toilet because you can't, you cannot go anywhere.
- 4:57Speaker 4: It's my biggest fear that I'm going to have to
- 4:59Speaker 4: go to the toilet at something age. So always tootle
- 5:01Speaker 4: off and go and do the Wii. If you're ever
- 5:02Speaker 4: at a stadium and you see me disappear just before
- 5:04Speaker 4: the game starts, that's where I'm going.
- 5:06Speaker 3: No mystery.
- 5:07Speaker 4: Anyway, As I'm walking in, this woman's like, oh, cath.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Cox, how are you going?
- 5:12Speaker 4: Just a Nettie fan that was there to watch the game.
- 5:14Speaker 4: She goes, oh my god, I'm loving no dribble so good.
- 5:17Speaker 4: Blah blah blah, goes carries on. But this conversation is
- 5:21Speaker 4: on the entire time that she's in the cubicle and
- 5:24Speaker 4: I'm in the vessel. She does not stop talking to me,
- 5:28Speaker 4: to the point that I thought I should probably ask
- 5:30Speaker 4: her name because I feel like this is going to
- 5:32Speaker 4: be a good story.
- 5:32Speaker 3: To tell next week. So I said, oh, thank you,
- 5:35Speaker 3: what's your name?
- 5:36Speaker 4: And she said, my name's Caroline, and we're big fans
- 5:37Speaker 4: and we listened to the.
- 5:38Speaker 3: To the show all the time.
- 5:40Speaker 4: But I actually thought about all the years we've been
- 5:43Speaker 4: drug tested, because I thought, this is one of those
- 5:45Speaker 4: performance and anxiety moments where I could not get my
- 5:49Speaker 4: WII out because this woman is talking to me and
- 5:51Speaker 4: she might be judging my stream or something.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Anyway, the years of drug testing.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Anyone else doing their pelvic floor muscle exercises right now?
- 6:00Speaker 4: I am someone inspired you, But I thought the years
- 6:02Speaker 4: of drug testing, I have no shame.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Can we on queue? It was helpful?
- 6:06Speaker 1: Did you know? Like a few years ago, I went
- 6:08Speaker 1: to the trouts at Bathists with my husband because that's
- 6:11Speaker 1: what you do at Bathist and we do like going
- 6:13Speaker 1: to the trouts.
- 6:13Speaker 2: To be clear, this isn't a toilet story. This is
- 6:15Speaker 2: a story.
- 6:17Speaker 1: So trots us in the horse trots and we walked
- 6:20Speaker 1: around the back of the stables and I could hear
- 6:22Speaker 1: whistling and I was like, what's that? What's going on?
- 6:25Speaker 1: And my husband informed me that they teach race horses
- 6:28Speaker 1: to piss when you whistle, so that when they come
- 6:31Speaker 1: in and they've got to do drug testing as well,
- 6:34Speaker 1: they teach them somehow that when they hear the whistle,
- 6:36Speaker 1: they have to wei, and that's how they collect their samples.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I think that's a dangerous job collecting a year and
- 6:41Speaker 1: sample from a horse also, isn't that funny? And I
- 6:44Speaker 1: thought we should actually learn to do that, that, you know,
- 6:47Speaker 1: if the drug test and whistles, you can just let
- 6:49Speaker 1: it all go, because we've all been sitting around waiting
- 6:52Speaker 1: for hours.
- 6:53Speaker 2: For I thought you meant that because Catherine gets so
- 6:55Speaker 2: nervous and has to do a nervous wee, that you
- 6:57Speaker 2: and I should teach her that when we whistle, she
- 6:59Speaker 2: does and then often just throw it in and see
- 7:02Speaker 2: what happens.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Were you were you okay at drug testing?
- 7:06Speaker 1: I was great, but I used to always I used
- 7:08Speaker 1: to hydrate all the way through the game. But I know,
- 7:10Speaker 1: like you Eloise Southby, she used to struggle with drug
- 7:14Speaker 1: testing because she didn't want to drink a lot during
- 7:16Speaker 1: a game. Was I always drunk a heam when I
- 7:18Speaker 1: was fine? But you know, like I'm a newdist I
- 7:20Speaker 1: don't care. It was a bit. It was a bit
- 7:22Speaker 1: off putting the first time, first few times, and it
- 7:24Speaker 1: was fine because the drug tester just stood in the
- 7:26Speaker 1: room with me. And then I got drug tested once
- 7:29Speaker 1: and as I went to put the beaker down, you know,
- 7:31Speaker 1: near my vadge, the lady squatted down to make sure
- 7:34Speaker 1: she could see it coming out, And I was like,
- 7:36Speaker 1: what are you doing? Wait, I've got to see it exit.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I have to see it exit your body so that
- 7:41Speaker 1: you're not you don't have like someone else's sample up
- 7:45Speaker 1: in a little balloon or something. And because apparently that's
- 7:47Speaker 1: been done. And if you have sharp fingernails, you can,
- 7:50Speaker 1: you know, prick the balloon and someone else's urine comes out.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Why would you have sharp fingernails if you've been on
- 7:54Speaker 2: ant ball court? Excuse me? What are the umpires checking?
- 7:57Speaker 1: It's a giveaway, isn't it.
- 7:59Speaker 4: And that's that's generally how they do it now. So
- 8:01Speaker 4: towards the end of my career, every time you have
- 8:03Speaker 4: to tuck your shirt right up, you've got to pull
- 8:05Speaker 4: your pants right down, and they are in They're right
- 8:07Speaker 4: in there to make.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Sure that got a great job.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Hey know, who signs up for this. But the worst
- 8:12Speaker 4: time for a lot of people were after a big win.
- 8:14Speaker 4: So if we run a Common Games or a World Cup,
- 8:17Speaker 4: we'd all be celebrating and they would be so dehydrated
- 8:20Speaker 4: from the game. Still what they have to stay there
- 8:22Speaker 4: with the drug tester until they can go till they
- 8:24Speaker 4: can produce it.
- 8:25Speaker 2: So they just randomly pull a couple of people out
- 8:27Speaker 2: from the team and say you're coming with me.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Yeah, And they would pinpoint them before the game, don't they.
- 8:31Speaker 4: So it's not on results or form or anything like that.
- 8:35Speaker 1: No, So before the game they might say, we're going
- 8:37Speaker 1: to take both goalkeepers whoever was playing goalkeeper in the
- 8:40Speaker 1: third quarter and the goal shooter in the first quarter. Right,
- 8:44Speaker 1: So they got they do that, and then they turn
- 8:46Speaker 1: up to the game and they pull you aside and
- 8:49Speaker 1: then off you go. The most inopportunity drug tests I
- 8:53Speaker 1: ever had was after the ninety nine Cup and lots
- 8:56Speaker 1: of people will remember that as the one where Sharrell
- 8:58Speaker 1: McMartin scored the winning goal against New Zealand and the
- 9:01Speaker 1: literally the last millisecond of the game and we were
- 9:05Speaker 1: all so excited and so cocker hoop, and I was
- 9:08Speaker 1: able to go really quickly. But we all got brought
- 9:10Speaker 1: into the same room to do all the admin and
- 9:12Speaker 1: like I was in there with Benice Meni, who was
- 9:14Speaker 1: the captain of the New Zealand team who had just
- 9:16Speaker 1: seen the greatest moment of his sporting career ruined by
- 9:18Speaker 1: Sharil mcmahtin. She was so upset. She was almost inconsolably upset,
- 9:24Speaker 1: and so you have to sort of temper yourself and
- 9:26Speaker 1: you walk in You're like, who we weren't They're like, oh, okay,
- 9:29Speaker 1: there's the other side. Let's us get the admin done
- 9:31Speaker 1: and get going.
- 9:32Speaker 4: So so that was just very nice of you, just quietly,
- 9:36Speaker 4: don't you just have one more digg?
- 9:39Speaker 1: No? I love Benice. Yeah, well she really was struggling.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I was fine. I just pissed the good out of there.
- 9:44Speaker 1: But you know, really, I do like Benice, and I
- 9:46Speaker 1: wasn't sad that we won, but I just I could
- 9:49Speaker 1: really feel brute.
- 9:50Speaker 3: I'll say, so brutal beakers need to be bigger.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Oh okay, so yesterday, because you've answered my question, I
- 9:57Speaker 2: was a bit worried about this when I watched the
- 9:58Speaker 2: MAVs do their song yesterday and they're all jumping up
- 10:02Speaker 2: and down for the whole song, and I'm just clenching,
- 10:04Speaker 2: like nobody's business because I see people jumping up and
- 10:07Speaker 2: down and I feel urine.
- 10:09Speaker 1: But so they'd.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Obviously taken people off to do the drug testing, and
- 10:13Speaker 2: they missed the team song they do.
- 10:14Speaker 4: That's it sucks to be those people. That's why it
- 10:18Speaker 4: is good if you can we on Q. So, yes,
- 10:20Speaker 4: the lady in the toilet how to chat with me
- 10:22Speaker 4: the whole time?
- 10:23Speaker 3: Not a problem?
- 10:24Speaker 4: Hi?
- 10:25Speaker 2: So was she Caroline or Caroline?
- 10:26Speaker 3: She was a Caroline.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Caroline's and Carolines. We understand each other because I've been
- 10:30Speaker 2: called Caroline my whole life. Carolines get called Caroline's. It's like,
- 10:34Speaker 2: get it right, people, it's not that hard.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Do you get Carol?
- 10:36Speaker 2: Rarely get Carol.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I do love when Catherine gets Cassie.
- 10:39Speaker 4: You know. Oh, gives me conditions?
- 10:43Speaker 2: Hang on? Should I whistle and see what happens?
- 10:52Speaker 4: So on the weekend, as I mentioned before, I had
- 10:54Speaker 4: two games, and what was really obvious was all the big.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Guns that were missing this weekend, so many of them. So, Georgie,
- 11:01Speaker 3: you Hodge just didn't play?
- 11:03Speaker 1: Was that your fault? She's freaked out out with the
- 11:06Speaker 1: last Sunday night.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Maybe she heard I was doing the game.
- 11:09Speaker 2: She's got a bit of agrophabia.
- 11:11Speaker 3: She was in the stadium. I will say she was
- 11:14Speaker 3: in the stadium, but yeah, that was sad.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Actually, tell me, do I owe Georgie Horges an apology?
- 11:18Speaker 2: I referred to her as Georgia Horgis last week and
- 11:20Speaker 2: as a Caroline Caroline that I've already explained my pain there.
- 11:23Speaker 2: I don't want to get that wrong, but I couldn't.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Is she a Georgie?
- 11:25Speaker 3: Is a Georgie?
- 11:26Speaker 2: Okay, I apologize, Georgie. I will not call you Georgia
- 11:29Speaker 2: again and you can apologize to me. No, Kathy.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Anyway, there was a lot of big guns across the
- 11:37Speaker 4: board missing, so it wasn't just Georgie Horges.
- 11:39Speaker 3: But we will chat about Neddie obviously a little bit later.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Let's get back to that.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to talk about this mascot thing though,
- 11:44Speaker 2: So I've done a little bit of research and I
- 11:46Speaker 2: think it's time for a bit of a refresh on
- 11:47Speaker 2: the mascots. And I agree with you. We are primarily
- 11:49Speaker 2: a women's sports so it's good to have the female mascots. However,
- 11:54Speaker 2: I think some of them are looking a little bit dated.
- 11:56Speaker 2: So Sporty Swift has been around since twenty eleven. Now,
- 11:59Speaker 2: the first I Pad released in twenty ten. There have
- 12:01Speaker 2: been thirty seven versions since then, so it might be
- 12:03Speaker 2: time to have a new version of Sporties with It's
- 12:06Speaker 2: when Wills and Kate got married. Come on, we can
- 12:08Speaker 2: move on from there. So the other ones that are
- 12:10Speaker 2: represented like a girl shaped are Lucy Lightning, West Coast
- 12:14Speaker 2: Fever has Marley a girl. They've had her since twenty
- 12:17Speaker 2: twenty two. Marley is a Nunga word for black swan,
- 12:19Speaker 2: which I think is fabulous. That's not the issue I have.
- 12:22Speaker 2: The issue that I have is the shape of these
- 12:24Speaker 2: kind of creepy looking mascots. If you ask me thunderbirds,
- 12:27Speaker 2: I think you've got the best one that is representative
- 12:29Speaker 2: of a girl shape that is a Tory Teapert But
- 12:31Speaker 2: I think they've had her since twenty eleven. But my
- 12:34Speaker 2: favorites are Foxy the Vixen, Phoenix the Firebird, and possibly
- 12:39Speaker 2: possibly Goose the Unicorn, even though I don't understand it
- 12:42Speaker 2: and it makes no sense, but I like it right
- 12:45Speaker 2: deep die.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Yeah, so like the name goose makes sense, but why
- 12:48Speaker 1: have they chosen a unicorn? They're a mythical creature.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't under Well, isn't that what's a maverick?
- 12:53Speaker 3: Isn't that a mythical something?
- 12:54Speaker 1: Rather? Now, maverick is someone who doesn't do things like
- 12:57Speaker 1: he's a bit outside the rules.
- 12:59Speaker 2: You're a maverick. I'm the opposite of a Maverick, So
- 13:02Speaker 2: I can tell you the unicorn came from Mavericks. Had
- 13:05Speaker 2: a new sponsor come on at the beginning of this year,
- 13:06Speaker 2: Henley Holmes, thank you for supporting netball, and they had
- 13:09Speaker 2: a campaign they invited fans to participate in choosing the
- 13:12Speaker 2: MAVs first ever mascot. Fans were encouraged to share their
- 13:15Speaker 2: preferences and ideas for the mascot's characteristics, providing valuable input
- 13:19Speaker 2: to influence the final decision. So that I guess that
- 13:21Speaker 2: came from the fans then, which is why you know
- 13:24Speaker 2: unicorns does make sense in that sense.
- 13:27Speaker 3: But from the sixth to the ten year old bracket
- 13:30Speaker 3: of girls.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly exactly, and look probably better that than some
- 13:34Speaker 2: kind of dopey Tom Cruise wandering round costume, right.
- 13:38Speaker 3: I take it. Don't be Tom Cruise any day. He
- 13:42Speaker 3: got a Tom Cruise.
- 13:43Speaker 2: But I'd like to see Sporty Swift updated. And also
- 13:46Speaker 2: the size.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Why don't you like Sporty Swift.
- 13:48Speaker 3: They're just a bit girly, aren't they.
- 13:49Speaker 2: They are a bit girly, but they're also I think
- 13:52Speaker 2: that the largeness of them makes them look a bit
- 13:54Speaker 2: kind of like a Hodoor of the netball court, and
- 13:58Speaker 2: I just know, what, are you guys not Game of
- 14:00Speaker 2: Thrones fan?
- 14:02Speaker 3: No, all the time for that.
- 14:04Speaker 2: There's a large proportion of our audience who understand exactly
- 14:07Speaker 2: what I talk about when I say hod Or Anyway,
- 14:10Speaker 2: he was a big dum dumb in Game of Thrones,
- 14:11Speaker 2: but he was a hero.
- 14:13Speaker 1: I think Catherine called me a hod All one to
- 14:15Speaker 1: three Am.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Harper does have a photo with Sporty Swift when she
- 14:22Speaker 4: was a baby. She was just a few months old,
- 14:24Speaker 4: so but how was Halpen now? Yeah, eight, so she
- 14:26Speaker 4: has been around a long time.
- 14:28Speaker 1: We should put a photo of Sporty Swift up on
- 14:30Speaker 1: the GRAM. I think you're right. I think she's but
- 14:33Speaker 1: you know I'm going to pull you too up. I
- 14:34Speaker 1: don't know if there's anything wrong with being girly, like
- 14:37Speaker 1: we're a girl's sport or a women's sport, or do
- 14:40Speaker 1: you want more womanly mascots?
- 14:42Speaker 2: I just I just don't think it's very stylish. I
- 14:45Speaker 2: don't have an issue with I certainly don't have an
- 14:47Speaker 2: issue with the femininity, but it's like I just sort
- 14:49Speaker 2: of look at it and go, it's just really dorky.
- 14:52Speaker 2: You look at Phoenix the Firebird. That is a cool
- 14:55Speaker 2: mascot costume, so it's possible. And even even Gea and
- 14:59Speaker 2: from the Giants and Tory, I think they are better.
- 15:03Speaker 2: And Lucy Lightning, they're better than Sporty s if it's
- 15:05Speaker 2: time for a new costume for an update.
- 15:07Speaker 3: So I want to get them all in a room
- 15:09Speaker 3: together and go the rumble and just see who wins.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Because listen to those names.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Yeah feedings, Yeah all, it's like Gladiators all over again.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Liz, Oh, there you go.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Hope Gladiators isn't having a season two.
- 15:21Speaker 2: So oh but can I tell you something amazing about
- 15:23Speaker 2: one of your Gladiators, Aleithia Boone. Last week the CrossFit
- 15:26Speaker 2: Game Semifinals y Oceania Semifinals. This woman is forty years old.
- 15:30Speaker 2: She had a baby eighteen months ago. She's represented New
- 15:33Speaker 2: Zealand in artistic gymnastics and weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games. Anyway,
- 15:38Speaker 2: she finished fourteenth in the Oceana semifinals, came fourth in
- 15:41Speaker 2: one of the events. Most of the other thirty nine
- 15:43Speaker 2: competitors are in the early twenties, like this is wow.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Well Elektra was that her was she Electra?
- 15:48Speaker 1: She was amazing and she's so wepanic. Yeah, she's awesome.
- 15:53Speaker 1: She was. Yeah, we had lots of long chats about
- 15:55Speaker 1: sort of you know, combining motherhood and all this sort
- 15:58Speaker 1: of other stuff, and she's so inspirations. She's amazing. That
- 16:01Speaker 1: was like, you know, I'm a bit bummed of Gladiators
- 16:03Speaker 1: isn't getting a second season, and I blame all the
- 16:05Speaker 1: people who didn't watch it.
- 16:07Speaker 4: Yeah, well, well that's not me. Then that I watched it,
- 16:13Speaker 4: I am stop asking.
- 16:15Speaker 1: But it was amazing to meet people like you know,
- 16:20Speaker 1: Elektra probom Is. I met all these people and started
- 16:23Speaker 1: following them on Instagram and ruined my algorithm.
- 16:26Speaker 2: You know, it improved your algorithm. Now you get CrossFit.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Now I get all this CrossFit fitness, how to be fit,
- 16:32Speaker 1: how to train protein and you know, all the supplements,
- 16:35Speaker 1: and I'm like, I just want my white and cheese
- 16:37Speaker 1: algorithm caravan.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Well, so you would have then also seen on the
- 16:41Speaker 2: Algram on the weekend that the most successful CrossFit athlete
- 16:45Speaker 2: ever tear Clare to me and Australian has also just
- 16:48Speaker 2: won her semi final to go through to her I
- 16:50Speaker 2: think ninth CrossFit Games. She is, Yes, I follow her
- 16:55Speaker 2: on the thirteen months ago she had a baby. She
- 16:58Speaker 2: is incredible.
- 16:59Speaker 4: I was watching own the lead up training with this
- 17:01Speaker 4: baby in them, you know, whilst pregnant.
- 17:04Speaker 1: She was amazing.
- 17:05Speaker 2: You should have seen the training I did when I
- 17:07Speaker 2: was pregnant. I was eating a whole bag of chips
- 17:09Speaker 2: all by myself. I was leaving the wine untouched, all
- 17:13Speaker 2: by myself. Don't tell me women can't do amazing things.
- 17:16Speaker 1: No. When I was pregnant with Evely and we were
- 17:18Speaker 1: living in Surrey Hills and I used to eat every
- 17:21Speaker 1: single day a sausage roll from the Burk Street Bakery
- 17:24Speaker 1: and I had a high chaser nice.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Oh nice.
- 17:27Speaker 3: One does evelon like pies and sausage rolls off that?
- 17:30Speaker 4: Oh?
- 17:30Speaker 1: I love them. We are a family who is very
- 17:32Speaker 1: big on our pastry. When we traveled in twenty twenty two,
- 17:36Speaker 1: our whole southern part of Australia for the last three
- 17:38Speaker 1: months of the trip was a brewery and bakery tour
- 17:40Speaker 1: and we went out of the bakery. So yeah. But
- 17:43Speaker 1: then when I was pregnant with Austin, I played heaps
- 17:45Speaker 1: of tennis, loved it and it was actually really good
- 17:47Speaker 1: for my tennis game. The big belly because it made
- 17:49Speaker 1: me a bit more balanced.
- 17:51Speaker 2: So do you now wear one of those fake pregnancy
- 17:53Speaker 2: bellies when you play tennis?
- 17:55Speaker 1: I noticed don't play tennis.
- 17:58Speaker 3: There you go. That helped.
- 17:59Speaker 4: If you had to do a pastory from a bakery,
- 18:02Speaker 4: choose one, what would it be?
- 18:03Speaker 1: I do love a pie. I had a great pie
- 18:07Speaker 1: the other day from a bakery in southern Queensland and
- 18:10Speaker 1: it was a seafood chowder pie. It was the best
- 18:13Speaker 1: thing I've ever eaten, had dial and lemon and seafood
- 18:16Speaker 1: and potato and oh so good.
- 18:19Speaker 2: That could so easily have gone wrong, though, couldn't it.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Like you know, I do love a bit of seafood
- 18:23Speaker 2: chowder and I do love a pie, but I would
- 18:26Speaker 2: approach very carefully.
- 18:28Speaker 1: But that's part of the beauty of it, right, is
- 18:29Speaker 1: that you're really walking on the wild side and you
- 18:31Speaker 1: come out the other end.
- 18:32Speaker 4: Okay, Jesus, you did to get a live have been
- 18:36Speaker 4: on this board for far too long, Elizabeth ellis.
- 18:38Speaker 2: All right, Well, clearly we live in a democracy and
- 18:40Speaker 2: we need to have more voices in this great debate,
- 18:42Speaker 2: and so, dribblers, we have found the platform for that.
- 18:45Speaker 2: We've invented something called Facebook. No actually it was already there.
- 18:48Speaker 2: But we do have a Facebook page, which is very exciting.
- 18:52Speaker 2: I don't know what the address is. I think it's
- 18:54Speaker 2: got no Dribble podcast in it. Mandy's showing me something
- 18:57Speaker 2: across the room. She doesn't know that. I don't have
- 18:59Speaker 2: my glasses eyes have not no Dribble podcast. Thank you
- 19:01Speaker 2: very much. Yes, so jump on that, join our Facebook
- 19:04Speaker 2: group share.
- 19:06Speaker 1: You know.
- 19:06Speaker 2: What we still haven't seen is any photos of kath
- 19:10Speaker 2: Cox's perms. But I think if we flood the Facebook
- 19:14Speaker 2: page with photos of Dribbler's perms, she cannot resist the
- 19:18Speaker 2: pressure that we will put her under. So jump on.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Let's get to know each other a bit.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I would like to know what people think the Swift's
- 19:26Speaker 1: mascot should become.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Whatever you've got an opinion on, we've got a place
- 19:30Speaker 2: for Let's keep it nice though. This is netball. We
- 19:32Speaker 2: are you know, we're a positive community. We like each other.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Shall we talk about some netball?
- 19:38Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 19:38Speaker 3: Well we probably sho.
- 19:40Speaker 2: I think we should too. So, Kath you made a
- 19:42Speaker 2: really interesting observation about the weekend that has just passed.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Well, aside from the face so I did the game
- 19:48Speaker 4: in the sunny case as I said, there was no
- 19:51Speaker 4: Courtney Bruce in that game. Then I went to Brisbane
- 19:54Speaker 4: and did the Brisbane Firebirds and the Thunderbirds game, and
- 19:57Speaker 4: there was no Kim Rebellion, the captain of the Firebirds.
- 19:59Speaker 4: There was no Georgie Horges, as I mentioned. And then
- 20:02Speaker 4: I was listening to all the chats around all the
- 20:05Speaker 4: other games on socials and whatever else, and I heard
- 20:07Speaker 4: there was no Wallace Joseph for the Swifts on top
- 20:10Speaker 4: of Nomady Proud again, no Joe Harton or Jamie Lee
- 20:15Speaker 4: Price for the Giants this weekend. And then there was
- 20:18Speaker 4: no Zara Walters again for the Vixen's. What the hell
- 20:21Speaker 4: is going on?
- 20:22Speaker 3: So everyone got to halfway and like, nah, I'm done.
- 20:25Speaker 2: So is this sort of what you were referring to
- 20:27Speaker 2: a couple of weeks ago when I said, is the
- 20:28Speaker 2: game getting more physical? And you've said our athletes are
- 20:31Speaker 2: getting big? Are they are getting stronger? The court science
- 20:34Speaker 2: is staying the same. Is it just that this is
- 20:36Speaker 2: now the product of the sport.
- 20:39Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 20:40Speaker 4: I don't think so, because you don't often see that
- 20:42Speaker 4: many big guns out at once, steels and for a
- 20:44Speaker 4: long period of time.
- 20:45Speaker 3: So I don't know if.
- 20:46Speaker 4: It's the stresses of a more professional training schedule and
- 20:50Speaker 4: that they're on court more often and their bodies are
- 20:53Speaker 4: just breaking down or whatever it is this group of
- 20:55Speaker 4: athletes are.
- 20:56Speaker 3: They're not old, they're like.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Sort of in their mid twelve, enough in their teens
- 21:01Speaker 2: or something.
- 21:01Speaker 4: I feel like there's got to be Now we talked
- 21:03Speaker 4: about this a bit, the extended number of contracted players.
- 21:07Speaker 4: Is that going to alleviate some of the workload maybe
- 21:10Speaker 4: of some of these athletes.
- 21:11Speaker 3: I don't know is that the answer, but it's it's
- 21:14Speaker 3: really interesting to see that many out in one week.
- 21:17Speaker 2: I think we have to extract Whilst Joseph from this
- 21:19Speaker 2: discussion because it's unclear why she was absent. But someone
- 21:24Speaker 2: on Netball Talk on Facebook was saying that they saw
- 21:28Speaker 2: Briani Akle say it's not an injury, and certainly Helen
- 21:30Speaker 2: Howsby's post match interview it seemed dodge and it was
- 21:34Speaker 2: just sort of, you know, do you want to talk
- 21:36Speaker 2: about that? And she said that was a club decision.
- 21:38Speaker 2: We had nothing and that was clearly what they'd told
- 21:40Speaker 2: her to say. If that question came.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Up, so is she at the venue? Then we don't know,
- 21:44Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 21:45Speaker 1: I don't know if she was, And that's hard. That's
- 21:46Speaker 1: interesting because you don't want to go speculating on somebody,
- 21:50Speaker 1: on a player. It might be something really simple, and
- 21:54Speaker 1: sometimes people want to keep their health information not out
- 21:57Speaker 1: in the public domain, which it.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Might just be something entirely personal. But I just if
- 22:02Speaker 2: we're going to have a conversation about injured athletes, I
- 22:04Speaker 2: think we do need to extract that and say that
- 22:06Speaker 2: might be a difference, a different circumstance, or.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Maybe not like a typical netball injury. It could be
- 22:11Speaker 1: something completely different. But it is interesting, and I also
- 22:13Speaker 1: wonder if there's a bit of a conservative approach to
- 22:16Speaker 1: injury management for older athletes. So back in the day,
- 22:19Speaker 1: I wouldn't tell the coach if I was injured because
- 22:21Speaker 1: I didn't I didn't want to not play.
- 22:23Speaker 2: But this has been the issue for concussion for many years.
- 22:27Speaker 2: But all the sports, isn't it that the athletes just
- 22:29Speaker 2: go no, I'm good, put me back on. Wally Lewis
- 22:32Speaker 2: played a state of origin with a broken arm, for
- 22:34Speaker 2: God's sake, and that's why they've had to bring the
- 22:35Speaker 2: concussion laws in so strictly and say you don't get
- 22:38Speaker 2: to make a decision on this athlete that this is
- 22:40Speaker 2: actually there is a protocol that needs to be applied now.
- 22:43Speaker 1: And I do you know what when I did my knee,
- 22:45Speaker 1: I tried, I made the physio strap me up, and
- 22:48Speaker 1: I tried to tell Plumb that I could go back on,
- 22:53Speaker 1: and I sat next to her and I was like,
- 22:55Speaker 1: I'm good, I'm good to go. Because it was also
- 22:58Speaker 1: so mental. I didn't want to accept that I had
- 23:00Speaker 1: done my knee five months out from the Melbourne Coming
- 23:03Speaker 1: Love Games. So I tried to talk Norman into letting
- 23:05Speaker 1: me go on. Thank god she saw right through me,
- 23:08Speaker 1: because if I had have gone on, I would have
- 23:10Speaker 1: gone on and done a heat more damage. And as
- 23:12Speaker 1: it was, it was just a nice clean snap. I
- 23:14Speaker 1: hadn't damaged anything else around it. And thank goodness for
- 23:17Speaker 1: Norma just going looking at me like I was an idiot,
- 23:20Speaker 1: and correctly so, and she just ignored me, and I
- 23:22Speaker 1: didn't go on and didn't do it any more damage.
- 23:23Speaker 2: The wisdom of the elders and listening to us young folks.
- 23:26Speaker 4: So the worst thing about Liza's injury was that I
- 23:29Speaker 4: went with her to get her scan.
- 23:30Speaker 3: So we left, we left training.
- 23:32Speaker 4: We both went straight to the hospital or wherever we
- 23:34Speaker 4: were to get the scan. So I'm in the scanning
- 23:37Speaker 4: room with the doctors and our team visio while Liz
- 23:39Speaker 4: is still lying on the bed having the scan done
- 23:41Speaker 4: so we can see, and they're talking about the fact
- 23:44Speaker 4: that she's done in me. So I knew before she did,
- 23:47Speaker 4: and then she looked at me when she walked into
- 23:49Speaker 4: the room afterwards, and straight away I think you saw
- 23:51Speaker 4: on my face, didn't you, that it was all over? Right? Yeah,
- 23:53Speaker 4: there was more depressing that she was going to miss
- 23:55Speaker 4: our trip because we had a great big trip after
- 23:57Speaker 4: a Jamaican tourl coming up.
- 23:58Speaker 1: So we were playing in New Zealand where I did
- 24:00Speaker 1: my knee, and then we had a tour to Jamaica
- 24:02Speaker 1: and then we're going to go to Chicago, and we
- 24:04Speaker 1: had tickets and the Bulls and all that sort of stuff.
- 24:07Speaker 1: But I remember walking into that room, Catherine, and you
- 24:10Speaker 1: were crying.
- 24:11Speaker 3: There's a dead giveaway.
- 24:13Speaker 1: I've done my knee, haven't I knew started crying and
- 24:15Speaker 1: I was like, hugging you, It's okay, and I'm like,
- 24:18Speaker 1: hang on, it's my knee. So do you know what?
- 24:23Speaker 1: After that? After I got diagnosed. I went back and
- 24:26Speaker 1: I had to get my stuff and I had my scans,
- 24:28Speaker 1: I packed my bag and I had to go back
- 24:30Speaker 1: to Auckland Airport to fly home to Sydney and the
- 24:33Speaker 1: rest of the team were going on and it was awful.
- 24:35Speaker 1: It was so depressing. Yeah, And so I left and
- 24:38Speaker 1: I got to Auckland Airport and literally as I went
- 24:41Speaker 1: up the escalators into the airport, Rebecca Bully who'd been
- 24:44Speaker 1: called in to replace me, and she was like mid twenties,
- 24:48Speaker 1: this awesome young defender. She was coming down.
- 24:50Speaker 3: It was now the Firebirds coach.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I had a crazy day on the weekend.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Yeah. So I was going up the escalators with my
- 24:56Speaker 1: scans and my busts and knee and you know, feeling
- 24:58Speaker 1: sorry for myself. And she kept coming down the escalators
- 25:01Speaker 1: at the same time, and we had these really awkward conversation.
- 25:03Speaker 1: She was like, oh, Liz, I'm so sorry, and I'm
- 25:06Speaker 1: thinking to myself, you're sorry you're going on tour. And
- 25:09Speaker 1: I was like, okay, thanks for having a really good tour.
- 25:11Speaker 1: And she said okay, And I've told her this, that's
- 25:13Speaker 1: okay that I can say this. After she went she
- 25:15Speaker 1: turned away, and I just gave her a bird as
- 25:17Speaker 1: she went down the.
- 25:21Speaker 3: And then didn't you cry when you got on the phone.
- 25:24Speaker 1: And I was balling my eyes out so hard, and
- 25:27Speaker 1: the man goes, oh, what happened? I was like, I
- 25:30Speaker 1: was trying. He goes, best you sit up here, and
- 25:33Speaker 1: I thought he was giving me an upgrade because he
- 25:35Speaker 1: recognized me. But I think he was giving me an upgrade.
- 25:37Speaker 1: So I didn't scare the passengers in economy. But getting
- 25:41Speaker 1: back to the athletes, now, I suspect this probably they're
- 25:45Speaker 1: like now they're feeling diaries and how they're feeling, and
- 25:48Speaker 1: they're monitored far more closely for fatigue, and there's knowledge
- 25:52Speaker 1: of how fatigue levels can lead to major injuries like
- 25:56Speaker 1: doing your achilles or doing your knee or something. So
- 25:58Speaker 1: I suspect there's a lot of that Catherine involved when
- 26:01Speaker 1: athletes are kept out for around and.
- 26:04Speaker 4: Particularly in light of the way this season is playing out,
- 26:07Speaker 4: because no one knows who's going to be in the
- 26:09Speaker 4: final four at this point, so it's almost like you've
- 26:12Speaker 4: just got to keep them as you know, if it's
- 26:15Speaker 4: going to put them back one little tiny step, it's
- 26:17Speaker 4: not worth it. You've got to keep them for the
- 26:18Speaker 4: big games coming up and hopefully have them ready for finals,
- 26:22Speaker 4: because the ladder at the moment is crazy.
- 26:25Speaker 2: It's tired. Must be tough for these training partners, these
- 26:29Speaker 2: young women who have to stay at the top of
- 26:30Speaker 2: their game in the hope that an opportunity comes up
- 26:33Speaker 2: for them. And sometimes that opportunity will come up, but
- 26:36Speaker 2: they I guess they just can't plan anything for the
- 26:38Speaker 2: whole season.
- 26:40Speaker 4: No, I know, and this is a big topic of
- 26:42Speaker 4: discussion a lot. But then I also think it's tough
- 26:45Speaker 4: at the top.
- 26:46Speaker 2: I don't think it should be any different, but I
- 26:49Speaker 2: just I feel for them that it's like any day
- 26:50Speaker 2: could be your day or not your day ever, so
- 26:53Speaker 2: got to be.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Prepared, got to be ready, and their parents, right, if
- 26:58Speaker 1: you get the opportunity, you've got to go and watch
- 26:59Speaker 1: your kid. What if you've made plans for Friday night
- 27:01Speaker 1: and got to dinner reservation, you know, but.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Now you have to pay put your credit card down
- 27:06Speaker 2: for a lot of dinner reservation. You could play your
- 27:08Speaker 2: cash too. That is so true, which I object to,
- 27:10Speaker 2: but that's another day too.
- 27:12Speaker 3: And also the two hour sitting that really pisses me off.
- 27:15Speaker 2: I think, I know hospitality is still doing it tough,
- 27:17Speaker 2: but I think there's some stuff that came in around
- 27:19Speaker 2: COVID and it's like, okay, guys, you're taking the piss now,
- 27:22Speaker 2: Like you can't get a dinner reservation for seven thirty,
- 27:24Speaker 2: you have to go at six or eight thirty, and
- 27:26Speaker 2: it's I don't want to eat at six, and by
- 27:28Speaker 2: thirty I'm just about ready for bed, So I said,
- 27:30Speaker 2: I don't want to eat that.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Dribbler's time for some shout outs to some of the
- 27:39Speaker 1: awesome folks who have been getting in touch for have
- 27:42Speaker 1: you two got well?
- 27:42Speaker 3: Jared Crouch actually crouchy.
- 27:45Speaker 4: He played for the Swans for a thousand years, won
- 27:48Speaker 4: a couple of premierships with them, and when the Swans
- 27:50Speaker 4: and the Swifts had a really close relationship, we'd.
- 27:52Speaker 3: See him all the time.
- 27:53Speaker 4: And he said he listened to the podcast on his
- 27:55Speaker 4: walk the other day, very entertaining and loves our work.
- 27:57Speaker 3: So thank's Crouchy.
- 27:59Speaker 1: He's got seventy three children, so it needs a piece
- 28:02Speaker 1: and quiet that are dribble.
- 28:05Speaker 2: I've had a really interesting message this week from Michelle Hill,
- 28:07Speaker 2: and she has a daughter who is a training partner
- 28:09Speaker 2: for one of the clubs, and she doesn't tell us
- 28:11Speaker 2: which club it is, but talking about how difficult it
- 28:14Speaker 2: is for those players. Obviously they're on the cusp of
- 28:16Speaker 2: a really exciting opportunity and what they've worked for for
- 28:19Speaker 2: their whole lives, but they have to stay at peak
- 28:21Speaker 2: physical form and they may get called up at any
- 28:23Speaker 2: minute or they may not. Perhaps, Kat, you might like
- 28:26Speaker 2: to explain to everyone what a training partner is.
- 28:28Speaker 4: A training partner is a player that is an extension
- 28:31Speaker 4: of the squads.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Yep.
- 28:33Speaker 4: So the New South Wales Swifts would have their contracted
- 28:35Speaker 4: ten and then they would have training partners that train
- 28:37Speaker 4: with them, do all their sessions, and then they would
- 28:40Speaker 4: be pulled in if there's an injury.
- 28:41Speaker 1: And you love that.
- 28:42Speaker 2: But I guess of course the families too, who are like, well,
- 28:44Speaker 2: if my daughter does get called up, I want to
- 28:46Speaker 2: be there for it. So they've all got to be
- 28:47Speaker 2: on tander hooks for the whole season. So I think
- 28:50Speaker 2: we just need to acknowledge the training partners and their
- 28:52Speaker 2: families and their social support networks and say thanks for
- 28:55Speaker 2: doing such a wonderful job for sun Corps supernetble for
- 28:57Speaker 2: us too.
- 28:57Speaker 1: This is true, the training partner thing, isn't We used
- 29:00Speaker 1: to have a larger squad for the Swifts in the
- 29:02Speaker 1: old days. And then Julie would name the twelve and
- 29:05Speaker 1: the three players who went in the twelve were expected
- 29:07Speaker 1: to still come to home games and help with hospitality
- 29:10Speaker 1: and talk to sponsors and go to functions and that
- 29:12Speaker 1: sort of thing. And a couple of the girls who
- 29:15Speaker 1: are in the twelve decided one time to tell the
- 29:18Speaker 1: coach that they were sick and didn't come. But the
- 29:21Speaker 1: problem was they went to a rugby league game and oops,
- 29:25Speaker 1: they were seen because one of them, her brother played
- 29:29Speaker 1: for the team that they went to see, so they
- 29:31Speaker 1: panted the families and she was there. So we had
- 29:35Speaker 1: to have a long discussion with them.
- 29:36Speaker 3: About I remember those two people.
- 29:39Speaker 1: One of those people is still playing at a very
- 29:41Speaker 1: high level. And it was pretty funny, like and you know,
- 29:44Speaker 1: like it opened up all sorts of discussions that we
- 29:46Speaker 1: have with them, but it was, yeah, it was funny.
- 29:48Speaker 1: So these these things aren't new. But my advice to
- 29:51Speaker 1: training partners is don't go along to another sport that's
- 29:54Speaker 1: televised if you're trying to get away with it. Do
- 29:56Speaker 1: the training partners get paid.
- 29:58Speaker 3: They get a small men, yes, I think, but not
- 30:01Speaker 3: like in our date.
- 30:02Speaker 2: But probably we played more than the Netball Australia board
- 30:04Speaker 2: members do. All right. We've had another message from a
- 30:08Speaker 2: fellow named Dan Love, a bald guy too. By the way,
- 30:10Speaker 2: my husband's ball. I'm bloody loving these podcasts dot dot dot.
- 30:14Speaker 2: I've been laughing out loud on the train on the
- 30:16Speaker 2: way to the office and people stare at me. Keep
- 30:18Speaker 2: up the good work. You keep up the good work too, Dan,
- 30:20Speaker 2: Thank you. Dan Is.
- 30:21Speaker 4: His name is Daniel Summer. He actually played netball and
- 30:25Speaker 4: we played against him quite often. He's part of the
- 30:27Speaker 4: new South Wales men's netball team.
- 30:28Speaker 2: So Hi Da Hi Dan.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Fantastic.
- 30:31Speaker 2: I've actually been thrilled with the number of blokes listening
- 30:33Speaker 2: to the podcast and enjoying it. Thank you very much.
- 30:37Speaker 2: I'm so excited because we actually have an audio nomination
- 30:41Speaker 2: for Wind Beneath Our Wings, and you'll remember that we
- 30:43Speaker 2: have been pumping this for weeks. Please send us a
- 30:45Speaker 2: little recording. I did a wonderful video on how to
- 30:48Speaker 2: do it on Instagram. If you haven't seen that, you
- 30:50Speaker 2: don't want to miss it. This year's Oscars are probably
- 30:52Speaker 2: going to feature that video or at least a LOGI. Yeah,
- 30:55Speaker 2: it's from Nigel Brown. Let's listen to that.
- 30:57Speaker 5: Hi, tem, I've got a wing beneath your wings termination
- 31:00Speaker 5: for you. ID like to nominate my daughter Lily. She
- 31:02Speaker 5: started at PCNA when she was at school. She umpired
- 31:06Speaker 5: for most of her time there and now even though
- 31:08Speaker 5: she graduated five years ago, she goes back every year
- 31:11Speaker 5: to assist with grading doing the umpiring. Has also coached
- 31:14Speaker 5: a couple of teams over the years. She's now at
- 31:17Speaker 5: UWA Netball, has been there for five years and has
- 31:21Speaker 5: umpired every year that she's been there and is now
- 31:23Speaker 5: the umpiring coordinator for the club. So really proud of
- 31:27Speaker 5: all the efforts she's put in all the club.
- 31:29Speaker 2: She's been exciting. We love to hear from our friends
- 31:32Speaker 2: in Western Australia too, So thank you Nigel. You get
- 31:35Speaker 2: so many gold stars for that nomination, but we love
- 31:37Speaker 2: hearing from you and Lily. Your daughter is the wind
- 31:40Speaker 2: beneath our wings this week, So thank you Lily very
- 31:42Speaker 2: much for everything you're doing to keep the game alive
- 31:44Speaker 2: at the community level.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Heay Lily.
- 31:45Speaker 4: While we're talking about WA very sad news over there
- 31:50Speaker 4: in the last week. Liz Booth who was a big,
- 31:53Speaker 4: big member of the netball community in Perth and with
- 31:57Speaker 4: the West Australian Netball Association, sadly lost a battle with
- 31:59Speaker 4: care answer. You know, she touched so many people and
- 32:02Speaker 4: was being involved in the game for such a long
- 32:04Speaker 4: time and they're all really feeling it. And I've known
- 32:06Speaker 4: Liz too, and she was the most incredible person. So
- 32:09Speaker 4: big shout out to all of her family and the
- 32:11Speaker 4: friends and everybody over in w at the moment.
- 32:13Speaker 1: I remember watching Liz play. She played center for WA
- 32:16Speaker 1: and I went to Nationals years ago as a kid
- 32:19Speaker 1: and because I wanted to watch Ansergent play, so we
- 32:22Speaker 1: went to watch New South Bales and Wo play and
- 32:24Speaker 1: she was amazing. I was mesmerized by her. And she
- 32:27Speaker 1: was running, she was full tilt and she tripped and
- 32:30Speaker 1: we were all like and she tucked herself over and
- 32:33Speaker 1: did a somersault and got up and kept running, And
- 32:36Speaker 1: that picture of her in my head is clear as days.
- 32:39Speaker 1: So when Sue Gordion from Western Australia, she posted a
- 32:42Speaker 1: photo of Liz playing and I was like, oh, yes,
- 32:45Speaker 1: I remember watching her play and watching her do that.
- 32:47Speaker 1: So it's such a nice memory to have of her
- 32:50Speaker 1: as a kid. She was just this amazing, amazing athletic woman.
- 32:55Speaker 1: So yeah, my condolence is too. It's really sad.
- 32:59Speaker 4: Yes, and watch this space because everybody that's been nominated
- 33:02Speaker 4: is going to get.
- 33:02Speaker 3: A little something special.
- 33:05Speaker 4: We're going to be working on next week. Actually it's fair,
- 33:07Speaker 4: it's going to be I don't want to give too
- 33:09Speaker 4: much now. We don't give anything away Anippet. We would
- 33:13Speaker 4: have all touched it. Does that make it less valuable
- 33:16Speaker 4: or all?
- 33:17Speaker 2: It won't be bruised.
- 33:19Speaker 1: I feel like I need to wash my hands.
- 33:21Speaker 2: We're also going to have something for the people who
- 33:24Speaker 2: take the time to nominate someone within the Netbour community too.
- 33:27Speaker 2: So things just get more and more exciting here in
- 33:30Speaker 2: no dribble HQ. But that is the end of our
- 33:33Speaker 2: time together. Once again, we've covered extraordinary ground this week.
- 33:37Speaker 2: We've talked about pelvic floor muscles and the importance of
- 33:39Speaker 2: exercising those. We've talked about the size of cups that
- 33:42Speaker 2: they're using in World Cup drug testing, urine tests. We've
- 33:46Speaker 2: talked about mascots and whether it's time to refresh our look.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Ladies Weber Trini and Sisanna always said, don't just stick
- 33:51Speaker 2: with the same look that you used to wear thirty
- 33:54Speaker 2: years ago. Well, I would say the same for you, Swifty.
- 33:56Speaker 2: But also we have told you that we now have
- 33:58Speaker 2: a Facebook page. Play please join our Facebook community. There
- 34:01Speaker 2: will be some questions that you have to answer, so
