- 2:45It is day two of what we're doing this online auctions at WV bargains dot
- 2:51com. We started it yesterday morning, runs through five o'clock tomorrow. And
- 2:54again this is one of our things where not only are our station is doing
- 2:59this only the stations in the building, but all the stations is part of
- 3:01the WVRC media family are taking part in this. And I've got with me
- 3:07right now. He's got the unabomber look going on this morning, and I
- 3:10know you can't see that. I'll take them at some point. My good
- 3:14friend, the semi legendary Steve Animal from our sister station ninety eighty seven A
- 3:16mouth in wild, wonderful classic rock. How are you, Steven? Well,
- 3:21I'm warmer in your studio than I was in mine. There's a little
- 3:24issue with the heat of this morning upstairs and here, and I guess I
- 3:30don't I can't figure out the way that because you know, this building we're
- 3:32in used to be a house. It was the old Frankenberger at Mention Yah,
- 3:37And so I guess we're on the same heating and or cooling system because
- 3:42there. I went to see Animal this morning and he's locked away in the
- 3:46studio and I thought, okay, again, he's doing the show naked.
- 3:49That's what I thought, as is generally the case, because he had the
- 3:52door shut. And then I figure out, well, it's like seventeen degrees
- 3:55in there. Then I walk into this studio this morning, and it's also
- 3:59seventeen degrees slus. I'm still wearing my unibomber looks yeah, But anyway,
- 4:03how are you man? I'm good, I'm good. Thanks for having me
- 4:06on. I needed to move. I was falling into a heat coma because
- 4:11I grabbed the Fisher Price heater out of somebody's office and I'm like, how
- 4:15does this just crank it up? So in there like drilling on myself.
- 4:18Well, before we talk about WV bargains dot Com, I want to ask
- 4:21you how are things on the Mountain? Our new station. We launched this
- 4:24station in midsummer, and by the way, if you haven't had a chance
- 4:28to listen to it, it's awesome. If you're a classic rock fan,
- 4:31this is definitely the station for you. Nine eighty seven the Mountain. It's
- 4:33now you know, you can go to you can download the app and you
- 4:36can listen to it anywhere you want to. But how are things? How
- 4:39things been on the Mountain good? We have been extremely well received, which
- 4:44I'm very thankful for. I'm still waiting for my first complaint call, so
- 4:47you know, if you want to be the first one. But no,
- 4:53it's been great. You haven't gotten to Wait a minute, let me get
- 4:55this straight. You have not gotten a complaint call yet. Yeah, dude,
- 4:58do you have any complaint calls? I get and I'm doing news and
- 5:00talking a lot. I'm walking on just two days ago. As a matter
- 5:04of fact, I'm actually behaving. I'm letting my back, my thought proceed
- 5:12what I'm doing. I'm just letting the music do the talking right now.
- 5:15So I should be a song. Oh it is. Yeah, well I'll
- 5:18tell you that. You know, whenever I go people, I was at
- 5:20an event last night here in Charleston and people were just talking about the Mountain
- 5:25and they were saying, man, I was talking to a friend of my
- 5:28last night he said, man, I love that that New stations. It's
- 5:32really really cool. Nine eighty seven the Mountain and if you like classic rock,
- 5:36it's the place to go. My buddy Joey Gresham sent me a text
- 5:41last week. He's like, dear Lord, I feel like I'm sixteen years
- 5:44old again driving to high school listening to the station. So yeah, it's
- 5:47pretty cool. I'm glad to be there. And yeah, I mean we've
- 5:50got Larry Shockley there, we have Attricia Moore, We've got Live Classic Classics
- 5:56at five. We have the Classic Cafe. So that's pretty awesome. Yeah,
- 6:00it is, indeed, so go check it out if you have it.
- 6:02And we've been out and about everywhere. You know, I'm going to
- 6:04spend a little bit of time talking about some of the Christmas parades a little
- 6:08bit later on, but I know that you're gonna be taking part. Shock
- 6:12that they've even broke me in. I'm dropping this weekend. Somebody's got to
- 6:15drive me. I got a pardy I'm going to Friday night. But all
- 6:18right, let's talk about this WV bargains dot Com. Today's day two and
- 6:24there are so many cool things on the website against WV bargains dot Com and
- 6:29many of these Steve I was taking a look at it into tail last night.
- 6:30Sixty five to seventy percent off of the original prices, which is pretty
- 6:36all of this stuff. If you want to get the stuff around us,
- 6:39you got to click on the Charleston section, but you can almost like an
- 6:43eBay moment, you can just go around the area if you want. But
- 6:48we were talking off Mike earlier. There's a fire truck. I'm fascinated with
- 6:55this fire truck. Coop and I talked about it yesterday, this fire truck,
- 6:58and somebody sent me a text and asked me who's selling the fire truck.
- 7:00I don't know how. I don't know how that whole part of it
- 7:03works. I just know we have this stuff, so I don't know who's
- 7:06say this is our stuff, so it's not our fire truck per se.
- 7:10But yeah, we have a legitimate nineteen eighty one fire truck available on the
- 7:16website, and I am really really wanting us to get that for the station
- 7:20vehicle for CHS. But anyway, that's just one of the many things on
- 7:25there. That's why you can hose back the crowds. The crowds, the
- 7:28thousands of people that I make angry on a regular basis. Yeah, we'll
- 7:30do that. But there's I mean, that's serious, of course. But
- 7:34there are a lot of furniture items on there, and a lot of it
- 7:38is local stuff. The folks from Qugh Furniture have got some really cool things,
- 7:41and there folks some Dunbar Furniture have got some really neat things out there.
- 7:45There is a party package from Kidderous. I know I'm not a parent,
- 7:49but I know I was talking to coop, and he's got a young
- 7:51daughter who just absolutely loves kidderous there, I mean, and again, some
- 7:55of this stuff is sixty five to seventy percent off tax services for Penny Pinchers,
- 8:03a truck driving scholarship from the Boone County Truck Driving Academy, which is
- 8:07pretty awesome. Fireworks, there's fireworks available. Put that under the holiday Christmas
- 8:13tree and light it up. Nothing. Nothing says Merry Christmas like blowing up
- 8:18uncle ted like a flaming Christmas tree in your living room. But give certificates
- 8:22from the good folks at Eddie's. Tire and Auto are on there too,
- 8:26So there's just so many great things on there. And again, you know,
- 8:30like I said last night, I came in and I was actually looking
- 8:33at it online, and I mean, you want to do your Christmas shopping,
- 8:37this might be a great place to start. I'll get you my list
- 8:41here a little bit. I like this one though, Penny Pinchers Tax Service,
- 8:46because tax season is coming up and down. Yeah, I just got
- 8:48slot. I filed mind late, so I got penalized interest and everything.
- 8:52So maybe they can help me out. I'll get my crap together a little
- 8:56quicker that's coming here, but go to the website. It's wv bargains dot
- 9:01Com is where it is. And this is actually going to be going on
- 9:05through I think five o'clock tomorrow, and they've from what I understand, this
- 9:11is kind of a little bids thing that we used to do here, and
- 9:13the way it works is there's kind of a you can do it, you
- 9:16can buy right then. I mean, it's like again like some of the
- 9:20other online auctions, if you want to hit a buy now, just say
- 9:22boom, I'm in. You can buy it right then if you want to,
- 9:24and we've already seen that happening with some of the things. Buy me
- 9:28the fire truck. You need the fire truck. And I also want to
- 9:31say again it's see said at the top of the segment here you can although
- 9:35we're obviously based here in the Kanawha Valley, this is all of our stations.
- 9:39So there's things from Beckley, there's things from Morgantown, there's things from
- 9:43Cumberland, there's things from Martinsburg. So if you see items on there and
- 9:48you want to drive to get then'ts between you know, you could definitely do
- 9:52that, yes, absolutely, but if you want to get everything locally then
- 9:54just click of the Charleston section of that website right there at WEV bargains dot
- 10:01com and yeah, you can do some holiday shopping. Like you said,
- 10:05sixty sixty sixty five seventy percent off stuff. So it's and it's going quickly.
- 10:11So again, this is something that we like to offer our listeners,
- 10:13you know, to give them an opportunity and help about our advertisers too,
- 10:18you know, that's what that's what it's all about. And again we got
- 10:20some great advertisers on all of our stations, many of them are represented on
- 10:24there. So go head on over to WV bargains dot com because you only
- 10:28got till five o'clock tomorrow to do it. Hip certificates too. I got
- 10:31to thank edist Tier for keeping the Mountain Truck alive and kicking. It's had
- 10:39a few issues, but you know they've been able to resuscitate it back to
- 10:43life, so thank you. Yeah. Indeed, I got a couple of
- 10:46texts for you here. They're not subpoenas this time, unlike the last time
- 10:50you were on the air. Is let me see, is there any truth
- 10:54to the rumor that Steve Animal is raised by a pack of wild wolves.
- 10:58That's in that legitimate tech. Yeah, I still have the marks where my
- 11:03mom would grab me by the nape of my neck and pull me up.
- 11:07Oddly enough, she grabbed me by the name of my neck as well.
- 11:09Tex says dear Dave curious who came up with the station named the Mountain?
- 11:13Animal Rules the voice of Local Rock No offense, Dave nay, thank you?
- 11:20Yeah, Dave take offense. I mean, well, no, I
- 11:22mean you're a legend, man, You're a llegend. I'm not well,
- 11:26it's kind of funny like listening to some of the liners and stuff, it's
- 11:30just like, you know, the legend has returned. I'm like, who
- 11:31are they talking to walk through the door? It's like who's coming through the
- 11:35door. But but who did come up with the name of the mountain?
- 11:37Do we have any idea where that came from? Is that just we just
- 11:39flip a coin, just had a wheel? I believe the powers that be
- 11:45actually being We talked. We talked multiple times from the beginning of the year
- 11:50you were involved with the poking me Woody. You know also it's like,
- 11:54hey, we need to bring you back. So through those conversations. But
- 12:00I believe the upper level management on the promenade level of this house came up
- 12:05with that. So pretty cool. The promenade level. We have a promenad
- 12:07level. Yeah, it's about sixty degrees. Well it's about it's about forty
- 12:13here right now. But all right, Steve, I appreciate you stopping by
- 12:18this morning. I had a coupon yesterday Tomorrow that seems going to be occupied.
- 12:22It's talking about w B bargains dot com by our good friend Rob Reel
- 12:26from our sister station and nine and ninety one KWS. We're looking forward to
- 12:31talking to Rob about that as well, because he seems like a guy that
- 12:33might want a fire truck. I could see that. I would, I
- 12:37mean I would drive it. All right. Where are you out and about
- 12:39here? I know, by the way, you got a birthday coming up
- 12:43soon. I do. I don't know exactly what it is because I don't
- 12:45care enough to know, but I'm just telling you you have a birthday.
- 12:46Come out. I'll remind you every day from here on out. Eleventh,
- 12:50the eleventh of December is your birthday. Stop early and shop often. Yeah,
- 12:54drop gifts off at eleven eleven Virginia Street. Well, happy, happy
- 12:58early birthday, Thank you, thank you glad to still be here. I
- 13:01was gonna say, are you surprised you live the song? Because I'm surprised
- 13:03you live this line I would have taken much much better care of than myself.
- 13:07Relie. But where are you out and about? Because I was talking
- 13:09about the Christas prayer? Are you doing any of the Christmas praise this weekend?
- 13:11And you know, I think I'm gonna be in the Saint Albans one
- 13:13as of yet. I think maybe Schockole or Brian will take over Dunbar Friday
- 13:18night, Yeah, I know. And I'm doing South Charleston Charleston Saturday Saturday
- 13:22morning, and there's one Saturday evening I think, yeah, I think so.
- 13:24Actually, I've got a schedule where we're going to be not just us,
- 13:28but our sister station, and we'll try to get in that a little
- 13:30bit later on Animal as always, man, thanks for being there as always.

- 16:22Now, as mentioned this earlier, and this is almost like a Friday
- 16:26funhouse show. I am going to get to serious news a little bit later
- 16:29on, but there's a lot going on as far as Christmas season, goes.
- 16:32You know, Charleston Christmas Parade, I think is one week from today.
- 16:34You got all kinds of festivals and all kinds of get togethers and parades
- 16:38and whatever. Many of them happened to this weekend. One of those is
- 16:41in Nitro or good friend Joe Stevens from the Nitro CVB joins us right now.
- 16:45Joe, good morning, how are you? Good morning, David.
- 16:48Thanks for having us one to chat about the Christmas Parade. There's a lot
- 16:52of them coming up this weekend next week, there is a lot, a
- 16:56whole lot of them, and I'm going to try to mention, you know,
- 16:57as many as I possibly can. But you specifically reached out to me
- 17:00and said, can I go on? I said absolutely anything. For Joe
- 17:04Stevens, I wouldn't go that far, my friend, but we appreciate the
- 17:10time and effort. You know, Saturday is a big time because I know
- 17:14the Dunbar Parade is on Friday night, but on Saturday a couple of years
- 17:18ago, it seemed like all the parades were happening at the same time,
- 17:21and the fine folks at South Charleston and Saint Albans and Nitro, we all
- 17:26got together and said, why don't we kind of like separate them so that
- 17:30somebody can start at South Charleston at noon, go to Saint Albans at three
- 17:34o'clock and come over to Nitro. In fact, we're going to start this
- 17:37year is at five o'clock. So if you like Christmas parades and if your
- 17:44kids want some candy, I would say you can get your fill of everything
- 17:48of Santa and see Santa making a trip three times during those three parades.
- 17:55But our parade, like you said, Dave, we get underway at five
- 17:59o'clock. And what is really neat about the parade this year is the fact
- 18:03that who our grand marshall is. His name is Bob Denny. Bob Denny
- 18:08is a local resident. He is ninety six years old, ninety seven in
- 18:15the month of December, and he is a World War Two veteran. We
- 18:21honored him during our Veterans Day celebration here at Nitro, and I looked at
- 18:26the Mayor, Dave K Bold and some of the other folks in the city
- 18:30and I said, we need to bring him as our grand marshal for the
- 18:34parade, and he will be our grand Marshal for Saturday's parade. He is
- 18:40about history. This man, while he was serving his country, was on
- 18:45the USS Marquette on its way to Pearl Harbor to get supplies for the invasion
- 18:52of Japan in nineteen forty five. On their way to Pearl Harbor, the
- 18:57captain of the USS came over the intercom of the ship and announced that the
- 19:04United States had dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. And you know when you
- 19:11hear that, and you hear him describe that and everything. He is about
- 19:15history, he is about serving, He is about the greatest generation that we
- 19:18ever had, and we just felt it would be a fitting way to honor
- 19:23him by having him as the Grand Marshal of the Nitro Christmas Parade this year.
- 19:29I mean, that is awesome. I mean really, And you know,
- 19:30I think the last time you were on, we were talking about the
- 19:33Veterans' Day things and you were talking with Joe Stevens from the Nitro Convention and
- 19:37Visitors Bureau. The last time you were on, we were talking about years
- 19:40ago that World War Two veterans were everywhere, and it's just it's just a
- 19:44march of time. Man. We're all getting older, you know, some
- 19:47of us more than others sometimes is the way I feel. But but now
- 19:51there's just so few of them, you know, left, and eventually that's
- 19:53going to happen to the Vietnam veterans and on and on down the line.
- 19:56So we need to honor these people while we can't. And what great,
- 20:00what a great story I mean about this, gentleman, I mean really really,
- 20:03I mean, you think we all like to think, Okay, we've
- 20:07undergone things in our life, and we've all, you know, we have
- 20:11I complained about traffic. This guy, I mean, this is really really
- 20:15an incredible story of what he and so many other people did Joe in that
- 20:22Greatest Generation without a doubt. And again he was on his way along with
- 20:26his other the other he was a Navy machinist third class, but they were
- 20:33on their way for one of the you know, other than maybe Normandy,
- 20:37the greatest invasion military invasion in the history of the world, and and to
- 20:42get that announcement. But he will be leading the parade. The parade will
- 20:48start at five o'clock. We're excited about it. We're going to have the
- 20:52AJ Andrew Jackson Middle School band right behind mister Denny. Then we've got you
- 20:57know, the normal Christmas, but as a lot of people understand, the
- 21:03Christmas parade is about bringing in the season of fun and enjoyment. And of
- 21:10course we'll have Santa Claus and we'll have just only First Avenue will be lined
- 21:15up as it always is, just bringing in this in the season. But
- 21:18it's really cool, Dave, and you and I have talked about community,
- 21:22the community spirit from it throughout the Caneal Metro area and every community having a
- 21:29Christmas parade, just putting smiles on people's faces. Yeah, and the weather
- 21:33I'm looking ahead. I mean the weather for Saturday looks like it's going to
- 21:37be your parade starts at five. Looks like it's probably going to be in
- 21:41the fifties at parade time, maybe maybe the forties. I mean, not
- 21:45too terribly bad. I think some people would like to have a little snow
- 21:48to kind of set the mood. But you know, I've been in various
- 21:52parades, either radio station or other civic organizations, and it gets kind of
- 21:56cold out there, especially if you get that cold rain or whatever. Nothing
- 21:59like that is predicted at least four now for Saturday, So that's good news,
- 22:03and that's great news. Again, you got a lot of parades.
- 22:06If you can't make it to Nitro's parade, and would love to have you
- 22:08here. Obviously there are other parades. In fact, there's one I believe
- 22:12in Cystonville that night around six o'clock, so make sure. And then you
- 22:18know, Charleston just steps it up when it comes to a Christmas parade.
- 22:22My goodness, Mayor Goodwin and her staff and Jane Bostick down there, they
- 22:29throw it down when it comes to a Christmas parade. And that'll be on
- 22:30Thursday. So just this area, Dave again stepping up and just having some
- 22:36fun for the season. Well, and I'll just go ahead throw this out
- 22:38there about Charleston Christmas Parade again next week. That same night, America's Got
- 22:44Talent winner Landelug Murphy Junior is going to be doing a concert here in Charleston
- 22:48that night. And so that's just an added bonus for next week for you
- 22:53mentioned Landau. I have a picture of him holding my son way back when,
- 23:00not soon after he had won America's Talent competition and the concert he did,
- 23:07the concert he did in the Clay Center, and he was coming up
- 23:11the owls and everybody was giving him high fives and my son, Christian,
- 23:15he reached over and he just picked him up and was touring around the Clay
- 23:19Center with him in his arm. Well, that son is now sophomore at
- 23:23Ohio University, and so he brings back a lot of memories and it's glad
- 23:30that he is still providing enjoyment for the whole community. And he does this
- 23:33every year. He comes back, comes off the road and comes back home
- 23:37and does a series of dates usually you know, seven, eight, nine
- 23:40or whatever dates around the state of West Virginia in different places, usually not
- 23:42the same venue or not the same city. Two years in a row.
- 23:47And this is a while. First time he's played in Charleston Wild. He's
- 23:48actually going to be on the show next week. Landal will be on the
- 23:51show next Tuesday. Let's get back to Nitro before we let you go Joe
- 23:55again. Time lineup place and can people still get in the lineup for the
- 24:00night your at Christmas Parade? You show up at four o'clock when the lineup
- 24:03starts at Pickens Road, which is right across the street from McDonald's on First
- 24:07Avenue, Route twenty five, and I'll find you a spot in parade.
- 24:11We're talking about a Christmas parade. Unfortunately, we're now solving world peace with
- 24:15it. We're having fun. We're having a Christmas parade. You show up,
- 24:18we'll get you a spot in the parade. I think all the vehicles
- 24:22from as I understand from West Virginia Radio Corporation, the Charleston scenario there will
- 24:30be in the parade. So come on out and meet some of your favorite
- 24:33personalities in the Nitro parade. The parade will start at five o'clock day,
- 24:38real quick, one shout out, it's the season. Shop local. I
- 24:42don't care if it's in Dunbar. I don't care if it's in Charleston.
- 24:45I don't care if it's in Nitro. Shop local. Indeed, one,
- 24:49how was your event on Saturday? A small business Saturday? How they go?
- 24:53It went well? You know, twenty first Street was quite active and
- 24:59various businesses throughout the area we're doing. You can see people were thinking about
- 25:03it again. Yeah, and that's good stuff. All right, we'll see
- 25:07you in Nitro this Saturday. Joe Stevens, I appreciate it, man,
- 25:10Thanks a lot, Dave. You stay safe, okay, all right,
- 25:12man, thanks a lot. Twenty eight minutes away from Jim Joe Stevens not
- 25:15from the Nitro Convention and Visitors Bureau, Dave Allen Show, and five eighty

- 25:44Because what you don't know can hurt you. Now, Nitro is certainly not
- 25:48the only communities. Joe and I talked about having Christmas festivities and Christmas parades
- 25:51and whatnot this Saturday, and I'm not going to be able to mention all
- 25:55of them. But I did get a note from my good friend Kay Summers,
- 25:56who is the mayor of clintdenn and she's done the Mayor Monday segment in
- 26:00the past about their Christmas activities. They're also on Saturday, they're going to
- 26:03start their parade lineup at five at PoCA Valley Bank there in Clindennon. There
- 26:08is a fee to enter and that fee is a new unwrapped toy. So
- 26:12if you're going to enter a float in the Clindennon Christmas Parade, you have
- 26:17to bring an unwrapped toy, a new unwrapped toy. I think it's kind
- 26:19of cool what they're doing at to be given to those in need, the
- 26:22underprivileges holiday seasons. So hats off to Mayor k Summers and those folks in
- 26:26Clindenon for that. Dave Fletcher, who is the mayor of a Bell,
- 26:32reached out to me about their Christmas parade, which is also Saturday. The
- 26:34lineup starts at five point thirty at Boyd Caterpillar. Others on Saturday include now
- 26:38this is not the entire list, but others on Saturday include Dunbar. This
- 26:48Dunbar Friday Night. Dunbars is actually Friday Night at six, and I think
- 26:52some of our station vehicles are going to be in on that. Then Saturday,
- 26:56South Charleston's is at eleven. That's the one I'll be I'll be driving
- 27:00to the truck for nine eight seven. The Mountain in our sister station.
- 27:03Also Saint Albans is happening on Saturday, and Joe just told you about Nitro
- 27:08at five when the lineup starts at four o'clock. So we meaning WVRC Media
- 27:15Charleston, our sister stations will be in a lot of these parades. That's
- 27:18just this weekend, coming through the end of the Christmas seas we look forward
- 27:22to it, you know, get an opportunity to get out there, all
- 27:25of us from V one hundred and the Mountain and us and all of us
- 27:27get out there and kind of have a good time. We enjoy getting out
- 27:30there and getting to talk to the people as the Christmas season is a pomus

- 31:26if you're going to be playing Christmas music from your van, actually it's a
- 31:30truck. Is there any way to request which songs you play if so.
- 31:33My nine year old grandson loves Elvis and Santa Claus Is Back in Town.
- 31:37It's his favorite Elvis Christmas song. I don't know what the setup for that
- 31:45will be, but if we can make it happen, we'll definitely make it
- 31:48happen. I'm not a huge fan of I know, here we go.
- 31:51I'm not a huge fan of Christmas music per se myself, but I will
- 31:53say that if I'm going to listen to Christmas music, there are two songs
- 31:56by Elvis that are just kicked you know what, and that would be Santa

- 32:50the West Side, and Jeff has a story posted about a WV Metronews dot
- 32:53com. Mountaineer Gas says it will provide a seventy five dollars credit to each
- 33:00customer's bill who lost service on the West Side. Now, apparently the way
- 33:07this is going to work, as best I understand it, there's going to
- 33:10be letters going out to the impacted customers a few days. It tells the
- 33:17letters do of the customers that they'll be exempt also from the termination process through
- 33:22the end of February. So I guess from what I read into that,
- 33:25and if I'm wrong, somebody from Mountaineer Gas can let me know that they're
- 33:30not worried about turning people off at this point that have gone through all this,
- 33:34and it certainly is understandable, and that will be through February now the
- 33:37company has paid for residential damage, including the replacement of a great number of
- 33:47appliances. Now, yesterday on the show, I had Delegate Mike Pushkin on
- 33:52the show, and of course he is somebody who actually lives on the West
- 33:58Side and as he told his the story yesterday, was actually impacted by it.
- 34:00He's one of the ones that's also back on line. But he also
- 34:02received damage to his furnace unit in his house. But he's back in line
- 34:07now. But he says he is hopeful that representatives from the gas company and
- 34:15West Virginia American Water will appear before the legislature in a committee form during interims,
- 34:22and interims are going to be happening next week in Charleston. He has
- 34:25asked Delegate Daniel Linville, and he talked about this on the show yesterday's and
- 34:30asked Delegate Daniel Lenville to put it on. I guess some sort of an
- 34:32agenda for the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and Mike and I talked about this
- 34:42on the show. By the way, if you missed the appearance from Delegate
- 34:45and State Democratic Party Chair Mike Pushkin, just like with all shows, you
- 34:49can go back and listen to them online WHS network dot com to share it
- 34:53on all of our social media, their podcast, and you can sign up
- 34:55for leg at alerts where you know people will folks. They'll let you know
- 35:00when the podcasts are available. But anyway, as Mike and I talked about
- 35:05yesterday, I don't think you're going to find a whole lot of partisan pushback
- 35:08on this. To be honest, if there's anything that I think that we
- 35:14can reunite, that we can unite Republicans and the few Democrats that are left
- 35:21under the Dome, this could be it. And so I am very interested
- 35:30in seeing how this is going to play out with them meeting in front of
- 35:36a committee, if it does indeed happen with a legislative committee, because as
- 35:40Mike and others have pointed out, and I think this is a really good
- 35:44point, what they're going to be doing is they're actually going to be talking
- 35:52to legislators that answer, as Mike said, to the people and not the
- 36:00PSC. And now I'm not saying that they're not going to talk to them,
- 36:01because they will at some point obviously, but I'm saying that it's a
- 36:07little bit different, uh, when when you're actually talking to legislators, phone

- 36:37The guy who knows all about it is fred pur Singer, the voice of
- 36:40high school sports in West Virginia. Frederick, good morning, Good morning,
- 36:44David. Like the temperature in here this morning? You know what it keeps
- 36:46you awake? Whoa hello, Hello, Hello. We're hanging meat back in
- 36:52the corner over there. But anyway, so another Super six for you.
- 37:00This is hard to believe. This is the thirtieth at Wheeling Island Stadium.
- 37:05I've been to every one of them, several at Ladley Field, before that.
- 37:08So it's always a good time when we get together the first usually the
- 37:13first weekend in December. And weather it can be anything you wanted to be.
- 37:19Yeah, and I wanted to talk about that because I mean, I
- 37:21know I was talking about for the Christmas parades in this area. The weather
- 37:23looks good Saturday pretty much the same. In Wheeling. All week long we
- 37:27had rain, rain, rain, rain, and that looks like the rain's
- 37:30going to be out of there probably by kickoff tomorrow night, and then Saturday
- 37:35looks very nice. So and you you said it. I mean, there's
- 37:37been everything in these Super six is in the past, from snow to mud
- 37:43to ice. I mean, you've had everything. But what a tornado or
- 37:46a tornado up there? No, no yet, no, Yeah, but
- 37:49no, you're right, we've had everything. I can remember the executive director
- 37:52of the WVSSAC before he had that job, he was one of the co
- 37:55committee members of the SR the Super Six actually seen him with a hatchet chopping
- 38:00ice out of the bleachers. That's hardcore. Friday afternoon, that's hard core.
- 38:06It's been told three classes of champs will be decided on the grid on
- 38:08Friday night. Class Double A it's number one versus number two in the Battle
- 38:12of Marion County as a top rated North Marion team will take on Fairmont Senior
- 38:15Saturday Triple A. It's first up is number five. Princeton will take on
- 38:20number three Martinsburg Saturday night Single A Championship as four faces three Greenbrio West taken
- 38:27on Williams Down. All the action right here on the radio and also on
- 38:30the Metro News channel, Fred, what are you? What are you looking
- 38:34at? In these games? Take them a game by game, all right,
- 38:36starting tomorrow nights. As you mentioned the Battle of Marion County. They
- 38:39met one other time the same two teams nineteen eighty one and they were Class
- 38:45Triple A teams at the time. They met at Ladleyfield and Charleston and North
- 38:49Marion won that one twenty one to six. These two teams have played once
- 38:52this year. Vermont Senior won fifty four to thirty six. I don't think
- 38:57we'll see that kind of score tomorrow night because that was back in the early
- 39:00October. Teams change and yes and so forth, and we've had players on
- 39:07last night on the High School Sports Line Show, and it's it's an exciting
- 39:09time. I think that will be just really a battle. If it was
- 39:14up. The defense is going to win this one because both teams have astounding
- 39:17quarterbacks. They really really are very talent on the offensive side of the ball.
- 39:22So I think it could be high scoring again, but I think it'll
- 39:23be closer than eighteen boys. The question is is there going to be anybody
- 39:27in Marion County? No, absolutely not, from the north side to the
- 39:30west side, and even those folks on the east side who like to see
- 39:32the west side get beat, they're all going to be in Wheeling Saturday.
- 39:37It's the Triple A Championship with Princeton taking on Martinsburg and Fred We all know
- 39:42the legendary program that is Martinsburg, but Princeton it's kind of kind of new
- 39:46ground for them. And yeah, well it is totally new ground. So
- 39:52talk about this Princeton team. First, it's Princeton team. They got a
- 39:53brand new head coach, first year Keith Taylor. Mountain of a man,
- 39:59has a beard in the law hair, and I mean evidently he knows football.
- 40:01He has a lot of talent, he really does. Chance Barker is
- 40:05a tremendous quarterback. They've got a receiver by the name of Dom Collins.
- 40:09His name is Dominic, but he prefers dom. Dom Collins is very very
- 40:13fast. I mean he's as fast as there is anybody in the state.
- 40:16Actually, we had on our show last night, and I mean, you
- 40:20talk about excitement. You go through Princeton at night and all of the businesses
- 40:24have blue lights on them. So the businesses, the community's really gotten behind
- 40:29the team, and I think Princeton will show up now again. You know,
- 40:31you talk about Martinsburg, and Martinsburg has won a total of nine state
- 40:37championships and Dave Walker going for the number ten tomorrow on Saturday afternoon. A
- 40:43lot of folks seem to have written off Princeton, But my point of contention
- 40:46is if you beat Bridgeport seventy three to seventy, he better take note because
- 40:53obviously Princeton can score points. So it's going to be Martinsburg's defense against that
- 40:58high octane offense that Princeton will bring the wheeling and then Saturday night the single
- 41:01A title game. Williamstown certainly no strangers to success in the world of high
- 41:06school sports, taking on the pride of Charmco West Virginia. And let me
- 41:10just say I love saying Charmco. By the way, Greenbrier West Briar West
- 41:16head coach first year Kelly Vaughan. Kellyvan played for Greenbrier West and went on
- 41:21to play college ball at Wake Forest. He's a mountain of a man.
- 41:24He shook my hand the other day and we were in a meeting in Parkersburg.
- 41:28The guy, I still don't know what happened my hand. I don't
- 41:30that, so trying to get the circulation. I heard the interview. Let
- 41:32me jump in real quick. I heard the interview last night. I was
- 41:35driving and listening to the interview that you did with one of the players from
- 41:37Greenbrier West, and he was talking about Kelly Vaughan. You know because he
- 41:42again he's a local guy because he went to Greenbrier West, went to play
- 41:45for the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest and then came back to coach. Yes,
- 41:49great story. They have a lot of respect for him in that program
- 41:51they're doing need and he has a lot of respect for Charmco. He loves
- 41:54that hometown of his. So I don't know. Both teams are undefeated.
- 42:00Williamstown on the only one of the six teams that we'll see this weekend that
- 42:02was at Wheeling Island last year. At this time they're trying for a repeat.
- 42:07They've got probably the most prominent name in high school football in the state,
- 42:13and Maxwell Molessa is the quarterback and he is very, very good.
- 42:16He's already signed to play baseball at West Virginia University, so a talented athlete.
- 42:22But again, when you look at Greenbrier West, they're gonna come and
- 42:24smack you in the mouth and if you get up, they're gonna smack you
- 42:28again. So yeah, it's gonna be a tough, hard fought game.
- 42:32Williamstown certainly favored, Martinsburg is certainly favored very much. Senior is favored,
- 42:38but we'll see what happens. The cliche is, that's why you play the
- 42:43game. I guarantee you Bridgeport was favored against Princeville. Well, and what
- 42:46about Wahamma. It definitely Mohamma came in with scoring eighty seven thousand points a
- 42:51game. You know exactly. We'll be listing and watching because the games will
- 42:55be on the W on the Metro News channel. Of course, we'll be
- 42:58airing them on the radio as well. And before you before you go,
- 43:00I would want to throw this in here, we're already talking high school basketball.
- 43:05You know, the boys are scrimmaging, the girls are already playing play
- 43:07last night. It's it is that time. And a quick question. And
- 43:12I don't I do, don't want to put you on the spot, okay,
- 43:15because you know I have too much respect for them to do that.
- 43:17But we all know about the controversy surrounding the transfer portal. Yes, and
- 43:22what many people think that's what caused a lot of the lopside of scuare not
- 43:27in the playoffs necessarily, But what you saw in the regular season in high
- 43:30school football, could we be looking at the same thing, in your opinion
- 43:32in high school basketball? Think it'll be worse. I've heard people say that
- 43:36in football you need twenty two players basketball you need five. Yeah, and
- 43:39I know for a fact one team has replaced four their starting five from last
- 43:44year through the transfer portal. So you're going to see it. I said
- 43:47all along, I thought basketball would be hurt the worst, and I think
- 43:52it will be. But we'll have to wait and see. You know,
- 43:53it's it's been a while things to settled down. And here's the bad part.
- 43:57Here's the bad part. In my opinion on this whole transfer thing.
- 44:00I know. I know three football players that played for a high school,
- 44:07three differ high schools. They don't play for three different high schools and basketball
- 44:12mm and they can do that according to this new law. You can play
- 44:15football at one school transfer to play basketball at another school if you didn't transfer
- 44:21in to play football at that school, you know, And I hate to
- 44:25and I guess, wow, I mean mind blown as they say on that.
- 44:29I just I guess I never really thought about that. I guess fred,
- 44:31I'm I'm old school. I'm so old school on preschool when it comes
- 44:36to certain things. But I just, I mean, there's something about school
- 44:39spirit and about you talked about about Princeton and what's going on down there with
- 44:45you and I've been there, coming from a small town, and we didn't
- 44:47have success like that in football at Logan High, but we had it with
- 44:50Mann and Chapmanville within the county and and and have the whole town rallies around
- 44:54and and it's that that's that is shot all the heck and back in many
- 45:00cases, whose dad played there, Yeah, they went there, And now
- 45:05he said, who's this kid? I don't remember his family? You know.
- 45:08That's what's happening. So uh, you know, I hope it doesn't
- 45:12affect it as much as I think it's going to. You just have to
- 45:14wait and see. All right, well, Fred, it's a pleasure to
- 45:16have you on the show. Enjoy your time in Wheeling. Where's the go

- 49:02Well, Hannah Gardner from the Humane Association, as always, will be on

- 49:10up to Hannah tomorrow on the show. Let me see Texas Water Company going
- 49:16to deny any responsibility. We have some of the highest water rates in the
- 49:20country. They need to be reeled in, according to a Texter. All
- 49:23right, So this postal facility thing, story posted about it at Wvmetronews dot
- 49:30com. You know by now that the Postal Service has said that they are
- 49:36in I guess, sort of a review process, if you will, of
- 49:40the Charleston Processing and distribution center. Now it's located out near South Ridge.
- 49:45There is a possibility that the facility could be closed or at least downsized.
- 49:52Tim Holstein, who is with the union representing the workers, was on Hoppy
- 49:58yesterday and said, basically, basically, it's just talks at this at this
- 50:05point, but there's a lot of talk out there about it. I mean,
- 50:08it first hit the news earlier this week. We've been all over it,
- 50:12and all the other local media outlets have as well. And the plan
- 50:15is is that if I guess what I'm hearing is if it does shut down,
- 50:20that it would transition to Pennsylvania probably, And this distribution center employee is
- 50:25about eight hundred people, About five hundred of them are represented by the union
- 50:30here locally, but about eight hundred people total, and those jobs, I
- 50:35guess would be lost, or maybe they'd give an opportunity to transition to something
- 50:37else. I don't know, but everybody's all the politicos are getting involved in
- 50:42this. Last night, Senator Mansion released a statement and you can read the
- 50:45entire statement posted as part of the story at wv metronews dot com. Us
- 50:49some pretty harsh language in there. Governor Justice, Senator Capitol, others have
- 50:54issued statements about it as well. Delegate Pushkin on the show yesterday he talked
- 50:59about it as well, and again the story's posted at wv metronews dot com.
- 51:04Tex says, if you care about the post office issue, blame Representative
- 51:07Carol Miller. Representative Alex Mooney and Senator Shelley Moore Capitot, Miller and Mooney
- 51:13voted no on the twenty America Act that would have brought funding to the USPS
- 51:17to prevent closures. Capitol and the Republican controlled Senate wouldn't even take up the
- 51:22bill. Republicans equals bad deals for workers. According to a Texter, we'll
- 51:27close with this. The judges, Ryan B. Packin in Kanah's Circuit Court
- 51:32Chief Kanah's Circuit Court Judge Taris Lango entered the order allowing circuit judges to carry
- 51:37a gun inside the judicial annex yesterday. Now. Up till now only police
- 51:43officers were permitted to carry them, but now the judges can do so as
- 51:47well. So keep that in mind, Ryan when you go in front of
- 51:50the judge. We're thinking about acting up in the courtrooms of Kanawha County.
- 51:54They're packing heat. Now, all right, we got to go. Thank
- 51:58you so much for Fred Persinger, for star by Joe Stevens as well.
