- 0:00When you can't save yourself, all you can do is shout.
- 0:05There's a story behind that. This is your daily message from
- 0:08Chad #1184 to upgrade your mental game today by telling
- 0:12yourself a better story. Because the most important story
- 0:15you hear is the story you tell yourself.
- 0:17This message is dedicated to Brian Clark, who turned around.
- 0:21Here's the upgrade. You think surviving is something
- 0:24you do alone, but upgraded thinking knows survival often
- 0:26depends on someone else's decision to turn back.
- 0:30Here's the story. September 11th, 2001, Stanley
- 0:35Premnath worked on the 81st floor of the South tower.
- 0:38He was at his desk when he looked up and saw the second
- 0:40plane. It wasn't in the distance, was
- 0:43lined up with his window close enough to see the logo on the
- 0:46fuselage. He had maybe 3 seconds.
- 0:49He dove under his desk and prayed one line.
- 0:52Jesus, please save me. The plane hit the 78th floor.
- 0:56His office came down on top of him.
- 0:58Ceiling tiles, drywall, steel, all of it.
- 1:01He was buried alive in a pocket of space that shouldn't have
- 1:04existed. So he did the only thing left to
- 1:06do. He started shouting. 2 floors
- 1:09above him, a man named Brian Clark was already walking to
- 1:12safety. He was an executive with Euro
- 1:14brokers, moving down one of the only stairwell still passable in
- 1:17that part of the building. He had every reason to keep
- 1:20going. He didn't know.
- 1:21Praying that he had never met him, when Brian heard Stanley's
- 1:25shouts, he turned around anyway and climbed back up into a floor
- 1:28that was on fire and filled with smoke.
- 1:31Listening for a stranger's voice buried somewhere in the
- 1:34wreckage, Stanley encountered a wall that stood intact despite
- 1:38the destruction around him. He could hear Brian's voice on
- 1:41the other side. He instructed Stanley to climb
- 1:44over at promising to catch him on the other side.
- 1:47Stanley tried to jump but missed.
- 1:49Feeling unable to climb over, he suddenly felt a surge of
- 1:52strength and began punching the drywall.
- 1:54Successfully punched a hole through the wall, making it
- 1:57large enough to fit his head through, and once his head was
- 2:00through, Brian grabbed him in a headlock and pulled him through
- 2:03the wall with enough force that both of them went down the
- 2:06stairs together to escape to safety.
- 2:09Less than 1/2 hour later, the South tower came down.
- 2:14Premnath became one of only four people to survive from above
- 2:19where the plane hit. It didn't happen because he was
- 2:22strong enough to dig himself out.
- 2:24It happened because he didn't stop shouting and because a
- 2:27stranger was willing to turn back.
- 2:30If you search Stanley escaped in YouTube, his story is easy to
- 2:34find. After the events of 911, Stanley
- 2:37entered A ministerial program, became an ordained pastor
- 2:41serving in New York. The better story to tell
- 2:44yourself is keep shouting. Someone will hear you tell me a
- 2:50story of someone who turned back for you to from
- 2:53chadsmith@gmail.com. Send someone a text and tell
- 2:57them I'm glad you did not give up on me.
