Latest / DEEP INSIGHT / Why would anyone vandalize Trump's Reflecting Pool
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: We also fixed the reflecting pool. In fact, if you
- 0:04Speaker 1: go over there right now, it looks very good. It's up.
- 0:08Speaker 2: They put somebody said, fertilizer in the water. If you
- 0:10Speaker 2: put fertilizer in the water, you get algae. But somebody
- 0:14Speaker 2: said they might have put fertilizer. They just something to
- 0:16Speaker 2: create the alergy. But that doesn't matter because that's been.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Purified. It's dead laying at the bottom. They're taking it out.
- 0:26Speaker 1: They vacuum it out. They vacuum it very carefully out,
- 0:29Speaker 1: and it'll be back to health pretty soon.
- 0:31Speaker 3: So far, at least five people have been arrested for vandalism,
- 0:34Speaker 3: and at least five others have been issued citations. The
- 0:38Speaker 3: president also claimed that a three hundred and fifty foot
- 0:42Speaker 3: gash was caused by a knife wielding vandal.
- 0:45Speaker 4: I cannot believe you said that sentence with a stuff face.
- 0:49Speaker 5: Did not make that up. I mean, I take it
- 0:51Speaker 5: out of it.
- 0:52Speaker 3: He might have made it up, but I didn't make
- 0:54Speaker 3: it up.
- 0:55Speaker 5: The fact that he said it.
- 0:56Speaker 4: But it's ridiculous and absurd, and there is zero evidence
- 0:59Speaker 4: for it. I mean, there is an actual, logical, scientific
- 1:03Speaker 4: reason why painting the pool blue has resulted in this
- 1:09Speaker 4: growth of algae. And it is ridiculous that in America
- 1:14Speaker 4: nobody's gone to jail because of being in the Epstein
- 1:16Speaker 4: files or being you know, having associations with Epstein. Fifteen
- 1:21Speaker 4: hundred people who actually did vandalize the capital got summarily pardoned,
- 1:27Speaker 4: but people who were writing around and just you know,
- 1:31Speaker 4: looking at the stuff floating around in this pool are
- 1:34Speaker 4: now arrested and being prosecuted by this government.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Literally sicking the US Attorney yes on people who are
- 1:42Speaker 3: who are picking up the pieces of chipped paint in
- 1:45Speaker 3: the reflecting pool.
- 1:46Speaker 6: Two things can be true at once. I'm guessing that
- 1:49Speaker 6: there are some people who foolishly decided to pick it
- 1:52Speaker 6: out because they saw it floating, thinking they weren't doing
- 1:54Speaker 6: any damage. They should not be hit with.
- 1:56Speaker 5: Any with that. There's actually nothing wrong.
- 1:58Speaker 6: Well, because anyone who tried to pe off something like
- 2:01Speaker 6: like wallpaper, you try to peel up just a little
- 2:03Speaker 6: bit and then the rest of it comes out, it
- 2:04Speaker 6: does more damage.
- 2:05Speaker 5: This idea that.
- 2:11Speaker 4: People are jumping in the pool, waiting in there and
- 2:13Speaker 4: picking the thing off the floor.
- 2:15Speaker 6: I think in most cases it's probably someone I'm saying
- 2:19Speaker 6: in most cases, I think it's someone who thinks they're
- 2:21Speaker 6: doing the right thing because it's floating and they're trying
- 2:23Speaker 6: to clear it. I think those people obviously should not
- 2:25Speaker 6: be here with vandalism charges. I also think it's likely
- 2:28Speaker 6: that people are trying to do something intentionally.
- 2:32Speaker 5: Unless we're supposed to do somebody.
- 2:35Speaker 6: Gas, I think it's likely. I think it's likely that
- 2:40Speaker 6: someone might have committed vandalism, given we just covered the
- 2:43Speaker 6: story the wa on the.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Lawn was that was you said, it's likely that.
- 2:52Speaker 6: Someone might commit what, yeah, vandalism?
- 2:55Speaker 5: You said likely? What makes you say that it was likely?
- 2:59Speaker 6: Because we've seen not stop vandalism against this president and
- 3:02Speaker 6: against Republicans for a very long time. Vandalism exists republic.
- 3:07Speaker 5: Just what was just?
- 3:08Speaker 6: What was just cutting into what?
- 3:12Speaker 7: You're not going to an example you're not going to
- 3:14Speaker 7: literally within the last few days we.
- 3:15Speaker 5: Had about against Republicans. I would love to know the
- 3:19Speaker 5: answer to the question, you.
- 3:20Speaker 6: Don't see graffiti graff? Yes, there's only, folks, one instance
- 3:26Speaker 6: of graffiti that.
- 3:28Speaker 5: You know, what would it take.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Vandalize to this extent a pool that, according to you know,
- 3:37Speaker 3: if we do just take Trump's favorite analogy is the
- 3:41Speaker 3: size of a skyscraper what exactly would it take to
- 3:45Speaker 3: make that happen?
- 3:46Speaker 6: What would it take to curve eighty six into the world.
- 3:51Speaker 6: But it's the same thing.
- 3:52Speaker 5: That was.
- 3:57Speaker 6: Against a reflection pool, So I don't know, what.
- 4:05Speaker 5: Do you do that it's POSI.
- 4:09Speaker 3: A couple of days ago, the federal employees took gallons
- 4:13Speaker 3: of you know, hydrogen peroxide into the pool. The president
- 4:26Speaker 3: painted the pool. Then they poured gallons and gallons and
- 4:31Speaker 3: gallons of a substance into the pool. I mean, if
- 4:33Speaker 3: you saw anybody pouring gallons of substance into the pool,
- 4:36Speaker 3: you might think it was bound vandalism. But these guys
- 4:39Speaker 3: were federal employees, So I don't know. I mean, what
- 4:42Speaker 3: is more probable?
- 4:44Speaker 8: I don't know. All I know about this story is that, Okay,
- 4:48Speaker 8: the paint is peeling. Apparently Obama under his administration, it
- 4:52Speaker 8: was falling into disrepair. This seems to be a really
- 4:55Speaker 8: bad like the execution of cleaning this pool seems to
- 4:58Speaker 8: be very difficult to maintain.
- 5:01Speaker 9: All you know about this door you came on TV
- 5:03Speaker 9: to talk about it.
- 5:04Speaker 8: I'm telling you that that's the worst.
- 5:05Speaker 5: Research I've ever seen about life. That's all you know
- 5:07Speaker 5: about this.
- 5:08Speaker 8: I'm just explaining the fact that the pool the pool.
- 5:11Speaker 8: How many issues that have happened to this pool, the
- 5:13Speaker 8: fact that there was a parasite and ducks were in
- 5:17Speaker 8: danger so they had to drain the pool.
- 5:19Speaker 6: All the problems started under Trump.
- 5:21Speaker 5: All the tell about the.
- 5:27Speaker 10: Only guy who gave no big contract with no process
- 5:33Speaker 10: for millions of dollars.
- 5:35Speaker 5: Of dollars over the gave that it is hard to leave,
- 5:42Speaker 5: you do you have to leave it?
- 5:43Speaker 4: There?
- 5:43Speaker 3: See that right there, that's the newly renovated reflecting pool.
- 5:47Speaker 3: And yes it is green and not American blue, I
- 5:52Speaker 3: guess is.
- 5:52Speaker 5: What it was supposed to be.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Look, this is fourteen million dollars of taxpayer dollars as
- 5:58Speaker 3: well that went into that project. And now they're pouring
- 6:02Speaker 3: literally by hand, gallons of hydrogen peroxide into the water
- 6:08Speaker 3: to try to kill the algae. I don't even know
- 6:13Speaker 3: what to say about this, except that maybe this is
- 6:16Speaker 3: why a no bid contract is not the best idea.
- 6:19Speaker 7: It's idiocracy at its height right here. I mean, when
- 6:23Speaker 7: I saw the pictures of them literally pouring hydrogen peroxide
- 6:26Speaker 7: into this, I just was like, oh my god, you know,
- 6:29Speaker 7: this is what happens when you fire all the scientists
- 6:31Speaker 7: and like the environmental experts and just say I want
- 6:33Speaker 7: a reflecting pool, and I'm going to hire my pool
- 6:36Speaker 7: guy that like worked on my pools. And then it
- 6:38Speaker 7: was like, oh, it wasn't him, and he didn't. He
- 6:40Speaker 7: also say that it was only going to cost a
- 6:41Speaker 7: couple of million dollars and that it was gonna cost
- 6:43Speaker 7: two right, and then now it's fourteen million. I mean,
- 6:46Speaker 7: this is just another example of how asinine a lot
- 6:48Speaker 7: of the things that Donald Trump does because they're vanity projects,
- 6:52Speaker 7: you know, and he continues to rob the American people
- 6:54Speaker 7: blind with all of these things. It's so waste of
- 6:57Speaker 7: money because it's not his, so what does he care.
- 6:59Speaker 7: The way is a terrible steward of the people's money
- 7:02Speaker 7: is is it's rich for particularly Republicans who used to
- 7:07Speaker 7: go on and on and on about the importance of
- 7:09Speaker 7: being a good steward of the taxpayer money, and now
- 7:11Speaker 7: here you have an algae filled pool that looks worse
- 7:14Speaker 7: than it was before. It's basic science, and they didn't
- 7:17Speaker 7: follow it.
- 7:17Speaker 9: I really, I really feel for the president on this
- 7:20Speaker 9: because as a chicken farmer, I have to clean the
- 7:23Speaker 9: algae out of my chicken watering jugs every day in
- 7:26Speaker 9: the summer.
- 7:26Speaker 5: That water is green every day.
- 7:27Speaker 9: And unfortunately it doesn't harm chickens, and it's not going
- 7:29Speaker 9: to harm the reflecting pool either. But painted water, water
- 7:33Speaker 9: and sun and organic material that will lead to algae
- 7:37Speaker 9: in the summertime. If I were the president, we can
- 7:39Speaker 9: rebrand this thing right now.
- 7:40Speaker 5: The reason that water is green.
- 7:42Speaker 9: Is because this country has never been wellfare is the
- 7:45Speaker 9: marketing advice of the day.
- 7:48Speaker 5: He painted it blue.
- 7:51Speaker 3: I paint it blue, and now it is green because
- 7:54Speaker 3: it's Scott Point, it's nature.
- 7:56Speaker 11: It's so silly that we're talking about a reflecting pool.
- 7:59Speaker 5: I gotta be honest. I could really care less about it.
- 8:01Speaker 11: Obama also spent money towards trying to fix up the wing,
- 8:07Speaker 11: trying to fix up the reflecting pool.
- 8:08Speaker 5: It's been an issue that's.
- 8:09Speaker 11: Plagued every presidency, it seems like. But I got to
- 8:11Speaker 11: acknowledge that Trump is the one who's making it such
- 8:14Speaker 11: a big issue. He keeps talking about it, holding up
- 8:16Speaker 11: the poster boards.
