- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the Tech Talk Radio Network.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Hey Bill Ry, the science guy here whatever, I am
- 0:07Speaker 2: listening to the radio, especially tech Talk Radio.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Welcome to another edition of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy
- 0:16Speaker 1: Taylor and I'm justin Leme and Sean is out because
- 0:19Speaker 1: he's doing so is he on the board of an HOA?
- 0:22Speaker 3: Is he like he's on an HOA board? I've lost
- 0:25Speaker 3: a lot of respect for him, honestly, I mean.
- 0:31Speaker 1: He might be popping in. Yeah. It was it until
- 0:34Speaker 1: I moved out here to Tucson that we had hoas.
- 0:37Speaker 1: We didn't have him in California, didn't have him in Coachella,
- 0:41Speaker 1: didn't have the Nunning Beach.
- 0:43Speaker 3: It just depends on the neighborhood you live in. What's
- 0:45Speaker 3: been happening, at least in my area is there's no
- 0:48Speaker 3: longer hoa's. They're called metro districts really, and they're they're
- 0:53Speaker 3: considered a special district, which is a form or a
- 0:56Speaker 3: branch of the government.
- 0:58Speaker 1: So they never Oh wow, I remember driving in Honeyton
- 1:04Speaker 1: Beach and I went down my street. Now you remember
- 1:07Speaker 1: these homes in honey And Beach. Yeah, they go for
- 1:10Speaker 1: almost a million bucks, right, and they're basic three bedroom homes,
- 1:14Speaker 1: but it is California. I remember turning the corner once
- 1:17Speaker 1: and seeing this house, and I saw this, and I'm
- 1:19Speaker 1: not kidding. The grass was as tall as the car,
- 1:22Speaker 1: like they hadn't mowed it in forever. And I remember
- 1:24Speaker 1: that house. I remember the people that lived in there.
- 1:26Speaker 1: They obviously didn't live there anymore. And I remember thinking
- 1:28Speaker 1: to myself, that's why we have hoas. But there's no
- 1:31Speaker 1: HOA in that neighborhood.
- 1:32Speaker 3: I mean there there definitely is a case to be
- 1:34Speaker 3: made for HS. Yes, it does keep the neighborhood somewhat
- 1:37Speaker 3: standard across the board. But I think the problem is
- 1:40Speaker 3: is just it's just they get too powerful, they get
- 1:44Speaker 3: a little too zealous.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Yeah you will. I guess we've heard the stories, oh mine.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I mean there are literally websites and subreddits.
- 1:52Speaker 3: They just overset their bands. They come over and they
- 1:54Speaker 3: look over your fence and they're like, oh, well, you'll
- 1:56Speaker 3: watch something on your back you're already not supposed to. Well,
- 1:58Speaker 3: that's the whole purpose of a fence, so that you
- 2:00Speaker 3: don't see it.
- 2:02Speaker 1: We'll have to find out if if Sean is indeed
- 2:05Speaker 1: on a board. He had to go to the meeting.
- 2:07Speaker 1: So either that or he's going there to complain about something,
- 2:09Speaker 1: which could always be the case. Matt has had a
- 2:12Speaker 1: little issue with the heater giving him problems at home.
- 2:16Speaker 3: He just got his brand new HVAC system installed earlier
- 2:19Speaker 3: this year and it's already failed on him twice. And literally,
- 2:22Speaker 3: as of the time, as right now as we were recording,
- 2:25Speaker 3: Denver is actually getting a massive snowstorm coming in.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Oh no, so it is not the night to lose
- 2:31Speaker 1: your heat, right, you know, it's.
- 2:34Speaker 3: One thing to be cold whatever. Yeah, okay, fine, you
- 2:36Speaker 3: got electric blankets and you know, heat up some hot
- 2:39Speaker 3: water or whatever. But it's the freezing of the pipes, oh,
- 2:43Speaker 3: because that leads to a world of hurt that I,
- 2:49Speaker 3: for one, have been privy to in this house.
- 2:53Speaker 1: You've dealt with the pipes that have been busted and
- 2:56Speaker 1: pipes that have leaked. As a matter of fact, sadly enough,
- 2:59Speaker 1: as we have followed your journey twice, you're now going
- 3:03Speaker 1: through it a third time as well.
- 3:05Speaker 4: Well.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Yeah, as of tonight, like literally I literally contacted Andy
- 3:09Speaker 3: before the show and said, look, man, I'm not gonna
- 3:11Speaker 3: do it. I can't do it. I'm just so stressed
- 3:13Speaker 3: out right now, we just got another leak in our
- 3:18Speaker 3: master bathroom that we just paid thirty five thousand dollars
- 3:21Speaker 3: for back in June to get remodeled. And this is
- 3:25Speaker 3: not the first leak again after that, it's the second leak.
- 3:28Speaker 3: And I'm out for blood. I'm out of blood. I mean,
- 3:31Speaker 3: I'm so livid right now. And these guys are.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Like, oh, yeah, well, we'll.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Come out on Wednesday or Thursday and take a wait
- 3:39Speaker 3: a minute, I'm like, no, you will get your happy
- 3:42Speaker 3: little butt out here tomorrow right and you will bling
- 3:45Speaker 3: with you a plumber. You will bring with you a
- 3:49Speaker 3: drywall expert because you are going to tear down my
- 3:52Speaker 3: drywall and you are going to fix this right now.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Oh man, so twice now, this is the twice after
- 4:00Speaker 3: they've renovated it. Why said I've had to call him
- 4:03Speaker 3: back out.
- 4:03Speaker 1: We're all going through I'm going through hard drive issues.
- 4:06Speaker 1: You're going through that. That's going through no heat. This
- 4:09Speaker 1: is I thought twenty twenty five was supposed to be
- 4:11Speaker 1: a fresh start. It really hasn't started out that right
- 4:14Speaker 1: at all.
- 4:15Speaker 3: No.
- 4:15Speaker 1: No, the reason that I got you to step in
- 4:18Speaker 1: and I gave him the wrong time because I forgot
- 4:21Speaker 1: that he was in Vegas. We've got a mutual friend
- 4:24Speaker 1: of ours that I know you haven't talked to in
- 4:26Speaker 1: decades that was going to be able to come on
- 4:29Speaker 1: the show and talk about what he's doing in Vegas
- 4:31Speaker 1: at the Consumer Electronics Show.
- 4:33Speaker 3: I mean, I got a couple ideas, but I have Yeah,
- 4:36Speaker 3: I don't know for sure, but I got a couple
- 4:38Speaker 3: ideas who it might be.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Well, the Consumer Electronics Show, of course, is week in
- 4:42Speaker 1: Vegas has been huge. They kicked off with all kinds
- 4:44Speaker 1: of announcements. We interviewed Patrick Pennett, who is a senior
- 4:49Speaker 1: director Industry and Policy Communications to the Consumer Technology Association.
- 4:53Speaker 1: He'll be on the show a little later and it'll
- 4:55Speaker 1: be talking about some of the things that we're expecting
- 4:57Speaker 1: this year. I had no idea that last year during
- 5:01Speaker 1: CEES they had crews walking around the show floors doing videos,
- 5:06Speaker 1: short form videos for YouTube, short form videos for you know,
- 5:10Speaker 1: other social media, highlighting some of the stuff that they
- 5:13Speaker 1: were showing. And one of them I had never never
- 5:17Speaker 1: heard about, the Mobian, and I don't know if you've
- 5:19Speaker 1: heard of Mobian. Mobian is a vehicle from I believe
- 5:22Speaker 1: it was Hyundai and you say, you're You're sitting there
- 5:27Speaker 1: in your car and you decide, oh, I need to
- 5:29Speaker 1: get closer to that curb. All four wheels will turn
- 5:34Speaker 1: and allow you to go sideways. Yeah, or maybe you're
- 5:38Speaker 1: at a You.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Ever done an aftermarket thing?
- 5:41Speaker 1: No, it's it's the this mobian vehicle that you got
- 5:44Speaker 1: to see the video. It's available online but from CS
- 5:49Speaker 1: and so Manton like, have you ever done this where
- 5:51Speaker 1: you pull up somewhere and you gotta grab a ticket,
- 5:53Speaker 1: you know, and the gate arm comes up. I'm an idiot.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I always pull up so too far away. So imagine this,
- 6:00Speaker 1: rather than having to back up and then get closer,
- 6:02Speaker 1: get out of your car and grab the ticket, just
- 6:04Speaker 1: move all the four tires and it slides over. And
- 6:08Speaker 1: I mean it's it's innovation.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Cars are just getting they're getting way. They're not even
- 6:14Speaker 3: cars anymore. You can't even call them a car. It's
- 6:16Speaker 3: a mobile computer.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Jim Barry, who has been on the show many times,
- 6:21Speaker 1: no longer with us, he passed away some years ago,
- 6:24Speaker 1: would come to Tucson and do what they call the
- 6:26Speaker 1: CES Tour. After the show ends, they would come in
- 6:30Speaker 1: and bring gadgets and gear and Jim was phenomenal and
- 6:35Speaker 1: would show things, and he talked about how the evolution
- 6:38Speaker 1: of the cees had turned into a car show. He said,
- 6:42Speaker 1: there's there's a I think it was the West wing
- 6:44Speaker 1: of the show. Nothing but cars and the technology in
- 6:48Speaker 1: our vehicles. And we've talked a lot about your Tesla.
- 6:52Speaker 1: We've talked a lot about the technologies of ev and
- 6:55Speaker 1: now it's hybrid vehicles. It's entertainment inside your vehicles. It's illumination.
- 7:02Speaker 1: This mobion. One thing it can do is say somebody
- 7:05Speaker 1: wants to walk in front of your car, it can
- 7:07Speaker 1: actually put a crosswalk down for them. It can project
- 7:13Speaker 1: a crosslock.
- 7:14Speaker 3: That's kind of cool. I'll definitely check that out because
- 7:16Speaker 3: I've not heard of that. But I got to say,
- 7:19Speaker 3: you know, speaking of smart vehicles, I had something happened
- 7:24Speaker 3: to me yesterday that was amazing. So you know, obviously
- 7:29Speaker 3: we are Tesla owners, as I've talked about, and I
- 7:31Speaker 3: have a Model Y twenty twenty three model Why you know,
- 7:35Speaker 3: every once in a while, Tesla says, hey, man, refer
- 7:37Speaker 3: your friends and earn up to one thousand dollars if they,
- 7:41Speaker 3: you know, buy a Tesla. Up to one thousand dollars
- 7:44Speaker 3: which means they have to buy the top of the
- 7:45Speaker 3: line to get the thousand dollars right. So I'm like, yeah, okay,
- 7:49Speaker 3: you know coworker. My wife's is like, yeah, they want
- 7:52Speaker 3: to buy a Tesla. I'm like, yeah, here, here, here
- 7:53Speaker 3: you go. There's a referral code. We'll get probably like
- 7:55Speaker 3: one hundred bucks whatever. I get a thousand dollars.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Nice.
- 7:58Speaker 3: And I'm like wait what and there Yeah, they bought
- 8:01Speaker 3: a Model S, a twenty twenty four Model S, which
- 8:05Speaker 3: is their top, well top of the line, but there
- 8:08Speaker 3: there's one more model above that, and it's the top
- 8:10Speaker 3: it's the Model S plaid. Yes, but he did not
- 8:14Speaker 3: get the plaid.
- 8:15Speaker 1: He just got the models.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Anyway, they came over last night and and you know,
- 8:20Speaker 3: just show off the car and he wanted to say
- 8:21Speaker 3: thank you and it. But then he was sitting there
- 8:23Speaker 3: and he was like, hey, do you want to do
- 8:24Speaker 3: you want to take the Model S for a drive?
- 8:26Speaker 5: Oh?
- 8:27Speaker 6: Man?
- 8:27Speaker 3: Really, I was like, I've never actually driven a Model S.
- 8:30Speaker 3: He's like, oh, you got to see this.
- 8:31Speaker 1: We get it.
- 8:32Speaker 3: I thought that I thought the Model Why was was advanced.
- 8:35Speaker 3: The Model S has so many more features. It just
- 8:39Speaker 3: blows my mind. First off, the center console screen actually tilts,
- 8:43Speaker 3: so like if the passenger wants to see it or
- 8:45Speaker 3: if the driver wants to see it, you know it'll do.
- 8:48Speaker 3: I gotta say the model.
- 8:49Speaker 1: S is is is way now? Now do you want
- 8:52Speaker 1: to upgrade?
- 8:52Speaker 4: Now?
- 8:52Speaker 1: Do you want upgrade? Is that the deal? Oh?
- 8:54Speaker 3: I do, but I can't afford it?
- 8:56Speaker 1: Yeah? All right. So we were able to bring in
- 8:58Speaker 1: not only Sean to find out if he is a
- 9:00Speaker 1: member of the HOA in his community, but also a
- 9:05Speaker 1: buddy of ours that I know you have not seen
- 9:07Speaker 1: justin in a long time. Who has Who is an
- 9:13Speaker 1: Emmy Award winning videographer, producer, writer. We've worked together in
- 9:19Speaker 1: radio over at Lotus Broadcasting here in Tucson. Paul Sanchez
- 9:25Speaker 1: is with us on my Paul, how you doing that
- 9:26Speaker 1: is god?
- 9:27Speaker 4: Paul?
- 9:28Speaker 1: Wow?
- 9:28Speaker 4: No, right, yes, yeah, I'm okay. I'm not seeing myself
- 9:33Speaker 4: in the little monitor here. Man.
- 9:36Speaker 1: It's been it's been forever. It's great to see you
- 9:38Speaker 1: and you are at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
- 9:42Speaker 4: I am at CS this year. I got media credentials,
- 9:45Speaker 4: so I was starting early last night at ce S unveiled.
- 9:49Speaker 4: Of course, my focus has been keyboards, mechanical keyboards specifically.
- 9:54Speaker 4: I think that's it's something that I think we're on
- 9:56Speaker 4: the verge of seeing a big, big and use. I
- 10:00Speaker 4: mean a lot of people are in my office use
- 10:02Speaker 4: them now. It's it's cut down on a lot of
- 10:05Speaker 4: like Carpal Tunnel's syndrome.
- 10:07Speaker 3: So basically yeah, so, I mean our our other co host,
- 10:11Speaker 3: Matt he just was raving about his mechanical keyboard he
- 10:13Speaker 3: got for Christmas?
- 10:16Speaker 4: What kind did he gets?
- 10:18Speaker 1: What was that? What was that? Sean, you're the you're
- 10:19Speaker 1: the Sewan? You remember that one?
- 10:21Speaker 5: I don't remember now what he said, put you.
- 10:24Speaker 1: On the spot? No, I don't remember.
- 10:26Speaker 3: It was something it was like it was only like
- 10:28Speaker 3: a ninety nine.
- 10:29Speaker 6: It was.
- 10:31Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, they've got a booth here that they were
- 10:37Speaker 4: not unveiled, but they've got a booth here that I'm
- 10:39Speaker 4: going to be That's that's that's one of the primary booths.
- 10:41Speaker 4: I definitely got to hit up tomorrow because that's when
- 10:43Speaker 4: you show the floor opens for all the exhibits.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Now, did do you do showstoppers as well?
- 10:49Speaker 5: Uh?
- 10:49Speaker 1: That's a Steve Leon exhibit that that thing is really
- 10:51Speaker 1: good as well.
- 10:52Speaker 4: I did not do showstoppers. I was more focused on
- 10:56Speaker 4: getting to unveil than making sure that I covered the
- 10:59Speaker 4: auto key, which of course I don't know if he's seen.
- 11:01Speaker 1: The that is amazing.
- 11:04Speaker 4: Oh, it's just an incredible thing where it really it
- 11:10Speaker 4: really focuses on the health aspects of people that have
- 11:13Speaker 4: like issues with you know, rotation and extension and stuff
- 11:19Speaker 4: like that. Basically, for those who don't know, the story
- 11:22Speaker 4: of this guy named what was his name? His real
- 11:25Speaker 4: name is Christian, but he goes by Ryan, right, Ryan,
- 11:27Speaker 4: He was by Ryan. He's in the Philippines, I believe,
- 11:30Speaker 4: and he basically had a shoulder injury from boxing, and
- 11:33Speaker 4: what he wanted to do was to create a device
- 11:36Speaker 4: that limited its range of motion where he could just
- 11:38Speaker 4: keep his arms in one spot. So basically, with the
- 11:41Speaker 4: health of AI, he created a keyboard. It's a full
- 11:44Speaker 4: one hundred and sixteen key layout. And then when you
- 11:46Speaker 4: lift your palms up in a certain direction, it's very
- 11:48Speaker 4: hard to it's very hard to learn, by the way,
- 11:51Speaker 4: when you lift your palms up in a certain direction,
- 11:53Speaker 4: the full keyboard slides back. You get your ten pad
- 11:57Speaker 4: on your left side and you get a track pad
- 11:58Speaker 4: on the right side. So basically, Wow, it's it's just
- 12:01Speaker 4: an incredible piece of machinery and uh, you know Ryan
- 12:04Speaker 4: knocked out of the park. It's it's just a no.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Is this part of the thoughkhouse brand, which is what
- 12:10Speaker 1: th h O C K H A U s.
- 12:13Speaker 4: Yes, basically it's it's it's me myself and I starting
- 12:16Speaker 4: this whole blog, this whole coverage of everything when it
- 12:19Speaker 4: comes to mechanical keyboards from not just like the keyboards themselves,
- 12:23Speaker 4: with the switches, the key caps, everything that goes into
- 12:27Speaker 4: building a mechanical keyboard. That is, that is what we're
- 12:29Speaker 4: here covering, and that's what we're doing for as of January. First.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Now, I've had some people who have asked me that
- 12:35Speaker 1: to have Parkinson's that are dealing with that where you
- 12:38Speaker 1: have the shakes, that sometimes operating a keyboard could be
- 12:41Speaker 1: a little more difficult than maybe a standard user, especially
- 12:45Speaker 1: with mice, and we've seen you know, mice on the
- 12:48Speaker 1: market where the hand rest on the mouse instead so
- 12:51Speaker 1: it's not moving all over. Can these keyboards have that
- 12:54Speaker 1: same kind of health function geared to maybe helping somebody
- 12:57Speaker 1: who is dealing with something like this.
- 12:59Speaker 4: I believe so you wouldn't want to go with the
- 13:02Speaker 4: Hall effect magnetic switch because those kinds of keyboards. For example,
- 13:05Speaker 4: I've got one right here. This is a mel Geek
- 13:07Speaker 4: you made eighty four water. It's a very limited board
- 13:10Speaker 4: now because they just did the elements they based off
- 13:13Speaker 4: the based off the Fifth Element movie, so they made
- 13:15Speaker 4: all the different elements.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Wow, it's nice.
- 13:18Speaker 4: And and it's a it's a Hall Effect. It's a
- 13:20Speaker 4: magnetic switch. So basically you you hold it up higher.
- 13:23Speaker 6: Op.
- 13:24Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, there got ye, I got a voice for
- 13:29Speaker 4: I got a face for radio anyway, So basically, uh,
- 13:32Speaker 4: these switches in this board are magnetic based, which means
- 13:35Speaker 4: you barely push it and it's registering a keystroke. So
- 13:38Speaker 4: someone with Parkinson's probably wouldn't want to have a magnetic
- 13:41Speaker 4: switch hall effect keyboard. They would probably want to go
- 13:44Speaker 4: with the standard you know, standard switch like this, drop this.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Drop there, you go, look at that. That's nice.
- 13:50Speaker 4: Yeah, this is great. It's got it's got ceramic key
- 13:53Speaker 4: caps on it as well, which is very soft. It's
- 13:55Speaker 4: very nice.
- 13:56Speaker 6: Touch.
- 13:56Speaker 4: It stays cool no matter what it's it's cool to
- 13:59Speaker 4: the touch. You can do well in this thing for hours.
- 14:01Speaker 4: It stays cool. I can't stay enough about serahc.
- 14:04Speaker 3: It is amazing. I gotta say how mechanical keyboards have
- 14:09Speaker 3: made such a major comeback. I mean, we started with
- 14:12Speaker 3: mechanical keyboards back in you know, the seventies and eighties,
- 14:15Speaker 3: and then everybody went to you know, digital all the
- 14:19Speaker 3: membrane stuff. Yeah, and then it's like and then mechanical
- 14:22Speaker 3: keyboards kind of became that niche market for like video
- 14:25Speaker 3: gamers and people that wanted that tactile feedback. But now
- 14:30Speaker 3: what you're helping to do, Paul, is just kind of
- 14:33Speaker 3: help open up that space and say, look, there's there's
- 14:35Speaker 3: so many more use cases for mechanical keyboards with great style.
- 14:40Speaker 4: Yes. And Epomaker the one of the brands of CS
- 14:43Speaker 4: unveiled last night because they rolled out of new magneticsm
- 14:46Speaker 4: new magnetic switch that's better than the standard halifect switch
- 14:49Speaker 4: that you're seeing in like the Mad eighty four that
- 14:51Speaker 4: I showed you. Their magnetic switch has a has a
- 14:54Speaker 4: very low act like a like an actuation rate where
- 14:57Speaker 4: it's like it's almost way sensitive. It's almost way sensitive.
- 15:01Speaker 4: It's perfect for gamers. But while I was there discussing,
- 15:04Speaker 4: you know, their their new switches, they clearly see a
- 15:08Speaker 4: need for these keyboards in the office workspace. They've been
- 15:11Speaker 4: they that was one of their their selling points. View
- 15:14Speaker 4: is like you could take this into the office. As
- 15:16Speaker 4: a matter of fact, we encourage people to take this
- 15:17Speaker 4: in the office. They had a lot of they had
- 15:20Speaker 4: a lot of the one hundred percent full key one
- 15:22Speaker 4: hundred and six hundred and fourteen key layout keyboards there
- 15:26Speaker 4: and they were really pushing the office aspect of mechanical keyboards.
- 15:30Speaker 4: Take this to the office, your life will change. And again,
- 15:34Speaker 4: I've got a lot of coworkers who are using these
- 15:35Speaker 4: things now that I brought them into the workplace. They
- 15:38Speaker 4: say these things are amazing and I can't I can't
- 15:41Speaker 4: agree more.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Do you find that people will use some of these
- 15:44Speaker 1: keyboards as a as a tie on to their mobile device?
- 15:48Speaker 1: So somebody got a laptop. Okay, let's face it, laptops
- 15:52Speaker 1: don't have the greatest keyboards. There are some that have,
- 15:55Speaker 1: but so they're just you know, push that aside and
- 15:58Speaker 1: use that instead.
- 16:00Speaker 4: I have I I have a laptop and I just
- 16:03Speaker 4: use mechanical keyboard with it. I haven't seen anyone using
- 16:06Speaker 4: like a mobile device like a man phone, but I
- 16:11Speaker 4: have seen people using them with tablets too, Like there
- 16:14Speaker 4: are tablet size mechanical keyboards that are out in the market.
- 16:18Speaker 4: I have not you know, tested those yet, but I
- 16:21Speaker 4: have seen people using like the sixty sixty keyboards that
- 16:27Speaker 4: are just you know, like there's no function keys, there's
- 16:30Speaker 4: no ten keys, it's just your quirity and then your
- 16:33Speaker 4: numbers at the top. Very small keyboards that I've seen
- 16:37Speaker 4: people using with tablets.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Wow, now you're at CS. I mean it's the biggest
- 16:42Speaker 1: tech gathering you know. Ever, let's face it, your heart,
- 16:47Speaker 1: you're a great videographer, you know, like Sean has works
- 16:50Speaker 1: in for the Notre Dame doing O their video stuff.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Do you kind of still look at some of that
- 16:57Speaker 1: stuff that's going on you want to you know, oh
- 17:00Speaker 1: I want that camera system or I want this one.
- 17:02Speaker 1: I know Red's got a brand new one too.
- 17:04Speaker 4: Oh easily. It's it's it's like I'm here on work,
- 17:07Speaker 4: I'm here to cover the keyboards, but I find myself,
- 17:10Speaker 4: you know, just glancing over and seeing there's any any
- 17:13Speaker 4: kind of technology that catches my eye, whether it be
- 17:15Speaker 4: a camera system or you know, PCs. I'm slowly making
- 17:20Speaker 4: the transition out of Mac to PC.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Whoa oh, thank god.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I've been a firm believer in MAC for years,
- 17:29Speaker 4: but I've I've realized that when it comes to maintenance,
- 17:31Speaker 4: it's just easier for me, someone who knows his way
- 17:34Speaker 4: around PC to kind of fix things themselves, kind of
- 17:37Speaker 4: do things and flop out cards. Whatever goes wrong on
- 17:40Speaker 4: a PC, I can easily maintain.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Instead of taking it to the genius bar.
- 17:46Speaker 4: Yeah, that is that whole thing. And I just it's
- 17:49Speaker 4: it's basically, you know, my better half, my partner, she
- 17:51Speaker 4: kind of been all about PCs for a long time
- 17:54Speaker 4: and has been talking to me like, hey, you should really.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Better put a ring on that right now?
- 17:58Speaker 4: Oh man? And then uh yeah, I mean I'll marry tomorrow.
- 18:04Speaker 4: You know that I'll marry tomorrow. She's great.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Are you Are you still living in LA out in
- 18:08Speaker 1: that area?
- 18:09Speaker 4: I am in Los Angeles, Yes, and I'm still working.
- 18:11Speaker 4: I'm still working for KTLA. That's a job.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Wait, so, so how long have you even working for KTLA?
- 18:18Speaker 4: I'm working on ten years now, k dude.
- 18:20Speaker 3: I worked for the same company as you for a while.
- 18:22Speaker 3: I was corporate staff for Next Star actually well Tribune
- 18:27Speaker 3: as well, but I was corporate it t Yeah.
- 18:30Speaker 4: Yeah, it's definitely a changing landscape, the whole television media thing.
- 18:35Speaker 4: And that's that, and that's and that's kind of like
- 18:37Speaker 4: where why I'm I'm doing what I'm doing with podcast now,
- 18:40Speaker 4: I'm kind of trying to branch out and promote this
- 18:42Speaker 4: kind of thing where I definitely, you know, the video
- 18:46Speaker 4: stuff is great, and I'm thankful to have such a
- 18:49Speaker 4: such a long career, starting in two thousand and two
- 18:51Speaker 4: behind a camera at the Olympics when I was working
- 18:55Speaker 4: in salt A, working in Greece for the Olympics. But
- 18:58Speaker 4: it's it's starting to get to a point where things
- 19:01Speaker 4: I'm starting to evolve and I'm thankful for my time.
- 19:04Speaker 4: But at the same time, I'm really passionate about this
- 19:06Speaker 4: keyboard thing, and that's that's amazing.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Now you're building the social media, you're building the website.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Of course. Uh again it's thuck House, which is an
- 19:15Speaker 1: interesting name. Can you tell us this is there a
- 19:18Speaker 1: story behind that?
- 19:19Speaker 4: Basically, the scripture for one of these mechanical keyboards, one
- 19:23Speaker 4: of the scriptors is Thoky. That's that's the sound they
- 19:26Speaker 4: make is a thocky sound of creamy sound. I just
- 19:29Speaker 4: you know, I just took the word thalk, and I
- 19:31Speaker 4: was thinking about things to kind of add to the
- 19:33Speaker 4: word thalk, and my sister was like, what don't you
- 19:35Speaker 4: call it like thoughk house, Like it's kind of German thokhouse,
- 19:38Speaker 4: you know, fancy German kind of Uh.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I totally pictured it.
- 19:43Speaker 4: Yeah, so it was like, yeah, that's okay. And I
- 19:46Speaker 4: saw I saw someone on Twitter had used it once
- 19:49Speaker 4: as a joke, and I was like, okay, well, if
- 19:51Speaker 4: someone's using that, I think it's perfect.
- 19:53Speaker 1: That is perfect.
- 19:54Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what that's what we're using.
- 19:56Speaker 3: I gotta let you know. I just found your channel
- 19:58Speaker 3: on YouTube and I subscribe yep, thank you on there.
- 20:01Speaker 3: And I saw your thought house at Cees Sunday Night Unveiled.
- 20:05Speaker 1: It's a good video. Yeah. Yeah, you really get a good,
- 20:08Speaker 1: good idea of that keyboard that you were talking about
- 20:10Speaker 1: with the pad that comes out. I was like, wow,
- 20:13Speaker 1: that's kind of cool.
- 20:14Speaker 4: I I and that's exactly, that's exactly the kind of thing.
- 20:18Speaker 3: These are some really cool ones.
- 20:20Speaker 4: That's the that's the thing that I think that that people.
- 20:23Speaker 4: That's kind of like our mission statements just kind of
- 20:25Speaker 4: really emphasize health benefits to these mechanical keyboards. Again, like
- 20:30Speaker 4: carp specifically my my my better half.
- 20:33Speaker 3: I mean, I gotta say, Paul, watching this video, I
- 20:37Speaker 3: mean I can just see like your experience as a videographer,
- 20:41Speaker 3: like you just have perfect transitions, perfect framing, everything about it.
- 20:48Speaker 1: It's just it's just perfect.
- 20:50Speaker 4: Thank you. I did, and I too my own horn.
- 20:54Speaker 4: I did did just win La Press Club. So total
- 20:56Speaker 4: journalist of the year.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Again, Right, that's pretty good. According to our friend Zach Selwyn.
- 21:02Speaker 1: If you know Zach, remember Zach from two yep, Uh,
- 21:06Speaker 1: there is an EGS in Redondo I believe on the pier,
- 21:10Speaker 1: uh somewhere down there, and hey, walk by, and I
- 21:14Speaker 1: don't think they were selling the food, just selling the
- 21:16Speaker 1: Egy drinks. So if you happen to be down in
- 21:18Speaker 1: Redondo Beach, you might want to look for that one.
- 21:20Speaker 4: But uh, I've been I've been telling my better half
- 21:22Speaker 4: for for for years now, like we need to go
- 21:24Speaker 4: to Tucson. You need to try you need tod hot dog,
- 21:27Speaker 4: you need to travel the Tucson food.
- 21:29Speaker 3: And she's, yeah, man, there you go.
- 21:33Speaker 4: I took it to a sonor and fooded place once
- 21:35Speaker 4: and you know, she was like, this isn't kind of
- 21:37Speaker 4: my this isn't really my Mexican food.
- 21:39Speaker 1: So well, it is great to great to connect with you.
- 21:43Speaker 1: I know Justin uh put a big smile on his
- 21:46Speaker 1: face as well, so again thought house. Uh you look
- 21:49Speaker 1: them up on YouTube, check out social media on that
- 21:52Speaker 1: and continue success with that and you know, maybe we
- 21:54Speaker 1: could reconnect after CEES, after this whole week and uh see,
- 21:59Speaker 1: you know what your thoughts are, what will kind of
- 22:00Speaker 1: the standout products for you.
- 22:02Speaker 4: I've got twenty eight booths to cover tomorrow, twenty eight
- 22:04Speaker 4: to go.
- 22:04Speaker 1: To Wow Wow in eight hours.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Well I expect a full report from me.
- 22:10Speaker 4: Yes, you definitely will have one. I'm going to be
- 22:12Speaker 4: doing individual breakdowns of the keyboards, like more in depth.
- 22:16Speaker 4: I interviewed all the people involved in those keyboard companies.
- 22:19Speaker 4: I'll be doing more in depth two to three minute
- 22:21Speaker 4: breakdowns at every single company coming up in the next week.
- 22:25Speaker 1: On we'll take a look. We've shared it on our
- 22:27Speaker 1: social media as well at tech talk Radio. Paul. Great
- 22:29Speaker 1: to connect with you, Matt, Thanks thanks for having me.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Good to see you, and we'll be.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Back with more of tech Talk Radio.
- 22:34Speaker 3: I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean Ard, and I'm Justin. Let
- 22:36Speaker 3: me find us online at tech talk radio dot com.
- 22:39Speaker 3: We'll be right.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Back and now back to tech talk Radio. And finally
- 22:44Speaker 1: Sean is able to pop in after his HOA meeting,
- 22:47Speaker 1: so now we can find out Sean. Oh, no, are
- 22:50Speaker 1: you a board member for an HOA?
- 22:52Speaker 5: I sure am. Oh that's it.
- 22:54Speaker 1: I'm done man, Oh, Sean, how could you do that
- 22:58Speaker 1: to us?
- 22:59Speaker 5: I'm over here. I'm over here putting leans on people house.
- 23:01Speaker 3: People's houses were having the wrong colored fence.
- 23:04Speaker 5: You better believe it.
- 23:06Speaker 6: No.
- 23:06Speaker 5: So the reason I joined the board for h WAY
- 23:09Speaker 5: is because the former president said pretty much said I'm
- 23:12Speaker 5: I'm done if nobody's taking it over or put it
- 23:15Speaker 5: into a management company.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 23:18Speaker 5: So a handful of us stepped up and said, look,
- 23:22Speaker 5: I'll be on the board like a guy said he'd
- 23:24Speaker 5: be president. So I'm doing it solely so we didn't
- 23:27Speaker 5: get screwed and put to a management company, because who
- 23:30Speaker 5: knows what it would have turned into. It would have
- 23:31Speaker 5: been a mess, and people weren't like yeah, so that's right.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Mm, well you made it back. Everything went okay.
- 23:38Speaker 5: There's only one hundred and forty four homes in our HA.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Only only that's that's a lot of homes.
- 23:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know.
- 23:49Speaker 5: It's my first age way, so I don't know.
- 23:53Speaker 1: I want to find out what else is going on
- 23:55Speaker 1: with you. But also, justin did something this week? You
- 23:59Speaker 1: got your son? Now, was this a Christmas present or
- 24:01Speaker 1: a birthday present? You got your son a smart watch.
- 24:06Speaker 7: Which, yeah, you know, when you think smart watches for kids,
- 24:09Speaker 7: there's really some people will always say, oh, don't give
- 24:12Speaker 7: your kids anything if they're under thirteen, but there are
- 24:15Speaker 7: some benefits to having technology.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Still tied with your child.
- 24:19Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely. So yeah, I did get him a smart
- 24:23Speaker 3: watch for his birthday. It wasn't like an Apple Watch
- 24:26Speaker 3: or a you know, a Samsung Galaxy Watch or anything
- 24:29Speaker 3: like that. It was It is designed for kids. And
- 24:32Speaker 3: it's called tick talk like you think TikTok, like the
- 24:36Speaker 3: social media app, but it's tic k t a l
- 24:41Speaker 3: K the words spelled out tick talk.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Yeah, which people I always have to fix them when
- 24:45Speaker 1: I'm telling tiktalk radio they go TikTok radio.
- 24:48Speaker 3: No, No, yeah, no, tick Talk. It is a smart
- 24:52Speaker 3: watch company. It was on Amazon. I think it was
- 24:54Speaker 3: like one hundred and eighty bucks. It rides on either
- 24:58Speaker 3: the AT and T or the team will network your choice,
- 25:02Speaker 3: but it is a smart watch that allows him to
- 25:05Speaker 3: text and call approved contacts. So as a parent, you
- 25:11Speaker 3: set it up and you basically, you know, you set
- 25:13Speaker 3: yourself and your spouse, if you got one, or anybody
- 25:16Speaker 3: else that you might want to be allowed to contact
- 25:20Speaker 3: your child or your child to contact them, and then
- 25:25Speaker 3: everybody else is blocked. Like if you were to try
- 25:27Speaker 3: to call my son right now, because he has a
- 25:30Speaker 3: phone number, he literally has a Denver area phones. Really,
- 25:33Speaker 3: if you try to call him, it will it won't
- 25:34Speaker 3: go through because it's not allowed. But you can also
- 25:38Speaker 3: I thought I could just text him through my you know,
- 25:41Speaker 3: my primary texting app. No, you have to actually use
- 25:45Speaker 3: their app to text because it encrypts the traffic. It
- 25:49Speaker 3: keeps it secure so that way you don't have to
- 25:51Speaker 3: worry about it, you know, just being on a standard
- 25:55Speaker 3: you know, SMS or or RTS network.
- 25:58Speaker 1: So the app is he's pretty good, I gotta say, though.
- 26:02Speaker 5: The downside is.
- 26:05Speaker 3: He uses it all the time. Oh wow, and it's
- 26:09Speaker 3: gotten annoying already. Yeah, like two days, two days and
- 26:12Speaker 3: I see Sean looking at it in his monitor right there. Yeah,
- 26:16Speaker 3: two days and he's already texted me probably one hundred
- 26:19Speaker 3: and fifty times and he's called my my mom, you know,
- 26:24Speaker 3: his grandma, He's called her about thirty five different times.
- 26:28Speaker 3: And she's just like, Okay, you know what, we need
- 26:31Speaker 3: to like set boundaries on this because I don't like
- 26:34Speaker 3: to be bothered all day every day, like for every
- 26:37Speaker 3: little thing he wants to tell me. He doesn't need
- 26:39Speaker 3: to text me or talk to me or whatever. And
- 26:42Speaker 3: I'm like, I get it. I know it's a new
- 26:44Speaker 3: little toy, but I do you know you can set boundaries.
- 26:47Speaker 3: You can set it up so that, like d like,
- 26:49Speaker 3: during school hours, the watch will not work, right, Okay,
- 26:53Speaker 3: the only thing that'll work is the SOS mode, and
- 26:56Speaker 3: if he presses a certain combination of buttons, it'll activate
- 26:59Speaker 3: SOS mode, which will then give him the option to
- 27:01Speaker 3: either call me or call nine one one, right, and
- 27:04Speaker 3: so that's a cool feature, but otherwise the watch will
- 27:07Speaker 3: not operate during school hours.
- 27:08Speaker 5: I kind of.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Wonder Justin and Sean, I don't know what your thoughts
- 27:11Speaker 1: on this. Should there be a program for youth now
- 27:16Speaker 1: that where technology is that it actually that we could
- 27:19Speaker 1: teach them about those boundaries, those lines, those proper maybe
- 27:24Speaker 1: technology etiquette when it comes to things you don't want
- 27:27Speaker 1: to do with somebody's WiFi or maybe do with your
- 27:30Speaker 1: watch or do with it.
- 27:31Speaker 3: That that's an amazing idea, Sean, I don't know, what
- 27:33Speaker 3: do you think.
- 27:34Speaker 5: I think that's a very good thing, right, I think
- 27:37Speaker 5: that is something that needs to happen because kids don't
- 27:40Speaker 5: learn social media or internet etiquette from anyone but their peers.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Well, we grew up, we see. The thing is is
- 27:47Speaker 3: we grew up with it, Like we grew up from
- 27:49Speaker 3: the infancy of the Internet. So we set the standard
- 27:53Speaker 3: as we evolved.
- 27:55Speaker 5: Right, So, but you we also grew up like so
- 27:57Speaker 5: the majority of our childhood right was pre modern internet, right,
- 28:02Speaker 5: pre public public accessible internet.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Mine was mine was pre color television. What are you
- 28:07Speaker 1: talking about?
- 28:09Speaker 5: So? So, I don't know. We think about this a lot,
- 28:13Speaker 5: And Caitlin and I talk about this quite a bit
- 28:16Speaker 5: with in terms of education. Her sister is a professor.
- 28:19Speaker 5: I have several friends that are professor's and the question
- 28:22Speaker 5: comes up all the time is how are kids learning
- 28:26Speaker 5: with technology versus how they would learn without it? Yeah,
- 28:30Speaker 5: you get these kids that are just using and one
- 28:34Speaker 5: of my my sister in law, said, it's very difficult
- 28:38Speaker 5: to not get students to not use chat GBT or
- 28:42Speaker 5: other online resources to teach them the content because she knows,
- 28:47Speaker 5: She says, I can I easily identify this is not
- 28:51Speaker 5: your work. You you don't know this.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Yeah, when when you when you're a third grader turning
- 28:56Speaker 3: in a paper that's written by chat GBT in the
- 28:58Speaker 3: form of a college essay, Yeah, your teacher is not
- 29:02Speaker 3: going to have a hard time figuring that out.
- 29:04Speaker 5: Yeah, but it's I've heard from other people who have
- 29:07Speaker 5: grade level kids that these their kids are just putting
- 29:10Speaker 5: in the most basic stuff into chetchbt, like what does
- 29:14Speaker 5: to plus four equal? Or what is the radius of pie?
- 29:18Speaker 5: And not learning it and just copying and pasting answers
- 29:21Speaker 5: from chet chub to their homework.
- 29:22Speaker 1: I remember when when I was a kid, I would
- 29:25Speaker 1: go to the Hunting Beach Public Library and I would
- 29:27Speaker 1: go through their encyclopedias. But I needed to look something
- 29:30Speaker 1: up and it would do that. You couldn't cut and paste,
- 29:33Speaker 1: you had to rewrite everything. And now I understand some
- 29:37Speaker 1: kids aren't even learning cursive. You know, it's don't teach
- 29:40Speaker 1: cursive anymore.
- 29:41Speaker 5: No, some kids are. There are studies going on right
- 29:44Speaker 5: now that are showing that even like seventh and eighth
- 29:48Speaker 5: grade level students are struggling with writing because they don't
- 29:52Speaker 5: do any actual handwritten work anymore. Right, so they're actually
- 29:56Speaker 5: struggling with knowing how to actually write, not necessarily cursive,
- 30:01Speaker 5: just writing in general and reading in general because you
- 30:05Speaker 5: don't have to the process of writing and reading is
- 30:09Speaker 5: so they're so entwined with each other that those functions
- 30:12Speaker 5: don't happen when you're just typing into a computer.
- 30:15Speaker 1: I thought it was I thought it was really interesting.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Was watching a YouTube video the other day. And I
- 30:20Speaker 1: don't know if you guys know this, but you ever
- 30:22Speaker 1: watch YouTube videos with your kids, you know, my grandson
- 30:25Speaker 1: comes over each three and every moment of Maximue right,
- 30:31Speaker 1: and my my grandson knows ABC's. He'll just say ABC's,
- 30:34Speaker 1: ABC's and he'll point to the screen and want me
- 30:36Speaker 1: to put the ABC's on on YouTube. YouTube kids is great.
- 30:40Speaker 1: But there was a there was one on their name,
- 30:43Speaker 1: uh miss Rachel and yeah, I don't know if you're
- 30:46Speaker 1: familiar with her. And I thought, okay, she gets on there.
- 30:48Speaker 1: She's kind of bouncy, she sings. I went online and
- 30:51Speaker 1: I started looking. Then I looked at how much Miss
- 30:54Speaker 1: Rachel was worth ten million dollars. Oh easily, these influencers.
- 30:58Speaker 3: They get on get on there, just ten million bucks.
- 31:01Speaker 3: Well not even not even just a single influencer. Look
- 31:03Speaker 3: at look at that channel that recently was was was
- 31:08Speaker 3: talked about as being really actually detrimental to your kid's health.
- 31:12Speaker 3: Coco Melon.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I mean, Coco.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Melon was a massive hit. I mean billions and billions
- 31:19Speaker 3: of views of their videos, and my son was some
- 31:23Speaker 3: of probably at least three and a half million of
- 31:25Speaker 3: those views. But they know, they recently came out and
- 31:29Speaker 3: said that Coco Melon is like a predatory YouTube channel
- 31:33Speaker 3: because they're utilizing the fast paced imagery with the bright
- 31:38Speaker 3: colors and the round shapes to engage children with an
- 31:44Speaker 3: underdeveloped brain to be addicted to their channel.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Yeah. I saw in one of the studies on that,
- 31:50Speaker 1: and I was like really.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:52Speaker 3: And when I first started that, I said the same thing.
- 31:54Speaker 3: I was like really, But then I went back and
- 31:56Speaker 3: I mean I read the article and I read their
- 31:58Speaker 3: evidence against it, and then I went back and I
- 32:00Speaker 3: actually watched a couple of Coco Melon videos and I'm like,
- 32:03Speaker 3: oh my god, they're right, Like everything they're saying about
- 32:07Speaker 3: this is totally addicting to children.
- 32:10Speaker 1: I can't imagine. How did we grow up learning our A,
- 32:14Speaker 1: B c's or one two threes?
- 32:16Speaker 3: We did it the old fashioned way in a classroom.
- 32:18Speaker 5: We know, we sang that to him. We sang it
- 32:21Speaker 5: to him.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Yeah, And I had a poster on my wall that
- 32:24Speaker 3: I would study A B, C, D, E, F G
- 32:26Speaker 3: and then I would learn it backwards and I could
- 32:28Speaker 3: do it. I could actually at one point in my life,
- 32:29Speaker 3: I could do the ABC backwards and you would write
- 32:32Speaker 3: it and I would write it.
- 32:34Speaker 5: Yeah, and I would. And then you would write letters
- 32:36Speaker 5: to words that use those letters, and then you would
- 32:40Speaker 5: write them some more and write the big ones and
- 32:43Speaker 5: then the small ones, and you'd write it in cursive
- 32:46Speaker 5: and then yeah.
- 32:48Speaker 3: I actually recently asked Eric. I was like, so, what
- 32:51Speaker 3: what is your like what what kind of like work
- 32:53Speaker 3: do you do in your school? Like do you do
- 32:55Speaker 3: you guys get a you know, pen and paper and
- 32:57Speaker 3: you practice your writing skills.
- 32:59Speaker 1: And he's like, no, we got a laptop.
- 33:01Speaker 3: We just do it all online. And I'm like, does
- 33:03Speaker 3: your teacher even teach you? And he goes, no, she
- 33:06Speaker 3: just tells us to go to the website and follow
- 33:08Speaker 3: the lesson online and I'm like, so basically your teacher
- 33:11Speaker 3: is like like a prison guard. Maybe it wasn't good
- 33:15Speaker 3: to compare it to that, but yeah, it's all done
- 33:18Speaker 3: via a laptop or whatever. And all respects, all respects
- 33:23Speaker 3: to teachers, though it's you know, it's the curriculum the
- 33:27Speaker 3: district chooses, right, I mean, respect to teachers. But you
- 33:30Speaker 3: know again, what I would just say is, on one
- 33:32Speaker 3: hand of me, that's like, hey, that's great because it
- 33:34Speaker 3: takes the stress off of teachers because teachers have such
- 33:37Speaker 3: a hard job, right, But.
- 33:39Speaker 1: I think it's super important though the kids need to
- 33:42Speaker 1: learn the ethics involved. I mean, we can tell kids,
- 33:46Speaker 1: you know, don't answer strange texts or don't you know
- 33:51Speaker 1: those stuff they don't teach. They don't teach that stuff
- 33:53Speaker 1: they don't teach. Don't take a photo and put of
- 33:55Speaker 1: you and your friends online. Don't say what sports team
- 33:58Speaker 1: you play for, say.
- 34:00Speaker 5: What school you go to.
- 34:01Speaker 3: Don't yeah, what's what what street you grew up on?
- 34:03Speaker 3: I mean back when we were kids, what they were
- 34:06Speaker 3: telling us, you know, not to do.
- 34:08Speaker 5: Don't dial the one nine hundred numbers.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I used to dial that number all the time,
- 34:15Speaker 1: the one where you could get a joke, dial a joke.
- 34:17Speaker 1: I used to love dialog joke.
- 34:19Speaker 5: Yeah. I used to the dial jokes or the Nintendo
- 34:22Speaker 5: Hotline to get to get you.
- 34:24Speaker 3: Oh yeah, the Miss Cleo Leo Psychic.
- 34:28Speaker 6: You know.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Yeah, there's so many different things. But I think they
- 34:31Speaker 1: need to learn that, and nobody's teaching that. Maybe this
- 34:34Speaker 1: would be a great opportunity for somebody who has a
- 34:37Speaker 1: classroom experience.
- 34:38Speaker 4: To do this.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Well, what they didn't teach us to and in school
- 34:41Speaker 3: obviously is like they didn't teach us like how to
- 34:43Speaker 3: balance our check books, how to do taxes, you know,
- 34:46Speaker 3: things like that you used to do. It's it's well,
- 34:49Speaker 3: yeah maybe, but like every generation has that one thing
- 34:52Speaker 3: where they're like, well, they never taught us this in school,
- 34:54Speaker 3: and then we had to deal with this.
- 34:56Speaker 6: You know.
- 34:57Speaker 1: I learned computers in school in high school. That's when
- 35:00Speaker 1: they were they were coming out and he had they
- 35:02Speaker 1: would connect to you know, a server and you could
- 35:05Speaker 1: use ten print, twenty print input a what is it
- 35:10Speaker 1: Oregon Trail on the Oh yeah, oh, speaking of that,
- 35:14Speaker 1: have you seen that the new Oregon Trails out on
- 35:16Speaker 1: x Xbox Game Pass? Are you kidding me yet?
- 35:19Speaker 3: They remastered the game and they actually made it with
- 35:23Speaker 3: there's multiple variations of Oregon Trail you can play and
- 35:27Speaker 3: and and there's like different quests you can do. It
- 35:30Speaker 3: is completely renewed for twenty twenty five Oregon Trail on
- 35:35Speaker 3: Xbox Game Pass.
- 35:37Speaker 1: All right, listen, we got to take another quick break.
- 35:39Speaker 1: We come back with more of Tech Talk Radio. We're
- 35:41Speaker 1: going to talk CEES the Consumer Electronics Show. Earlier we
- 35:44Speaker 1: had our buddy Paul Sanchez in from from ces in
- 35:48Speaker 1: Las Vegas. But we are going to speak with a
- 35:50Speaker 1: representative from the Consumer Technology Association. They put on the
- 35:55Speaker 1: big Consumer Electronics Show, Patrick Pennett, Who's gonna tell us
- 35:58Speaker 1: about some of the cool things seen over this past week,
- 36:02Speaker 1: some of the things to expect, and why this show
- 36:05Speaker 1: is so important for so many And again you want
- 36:09Speaker 1: to hang on for that because we'll find out about
- 36:11Speaker 1: some of the some of the really cool stuff to
- 36:14Speaker 1: expect for this year. And as a reminder, if you
- 36:16Speaker 1: do want to follow some of the action from Las
- 36:19Speaker 1: Vegas and of course the keynote speeches that have been made,
- 36:23Speaker 1: you could go to CEES dot Tech. But that discussion
- 36:27Speaker 1: with Patrick is standing by.
- 36:29Speaker 3: I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird and I'm justin
- 36:32Speaker 3: Lemme set us an ax at tech Talk Radio.
- 36:35Speaker 1: We'll be right back now back to tech Talk Radio.
- 36:40Speaker 1: You know, there are many trade shows that happen throughout
- 36:43Speaker 1: the country, throughout the world we'll never hear about. But
- 36:45Speaker 1: one of those that we hear about every year we
- 36:48Speaker 1: get so excited around this time of the year is
- 36:51Speaker 1: the Consumer Electronics Show. And Patrick Pennett is a Senior
- 36:55Speaker 1: director of Industry and Policy Communications for the Consumer Technology Association. Patrick,
- 37:01Speaker 1: Welcome to tech Talk Radio.
- 37:02Speaker 6: Thank you, glad to be with you here today. Thrilled
- 37:04Speaker 6: to be here less than nearly twenty four hours until
- 37:07Speaker 6: CES twenty twenty five kicks off here in Las Vegas.
- 37:10Speaker 1: It's going to be an exciting time now this week,
- 37:13Speaker 1: we're already getting the announcements of some of the great
- 37:15Speaker 1: products that are coming out. But for our listeners who
- 37:17Speaker 1: maybe are not familiar with the Consumer Technology Association, tell
- 37:22Speaker 1: us a little bit about what they do.
- 37:23Speaker 6: So CTA, the Consumer Technology Association has been around for
- 37:27Speaker 6: more than a century, one hundred and one years this year,
- 37:29Speaker 6: starting as the Radio Manufacturers Association, and then we started
- 37:33Speaker 6: what began as the Consumer Electronics show now known simply
- 37:36Speaker 6: as CEES more than fifty years ago, and we've been
- 37:40Speaker 6: in our home Las Vegas for several decades now. The first,
- 37:45Speaker 6: you know, one of the first few weeks of January
- 37:48Speaker 6: every year, really to set the agenda for the year
- 37:50Speaker 6: ahead in technology.
- 37:51Speaker 4: The other fifty one.
- 37:52Speaker 6: Weeks a year when we're not here in Vegas. We're
- 37:55Speaker 6: a DC based trade association, so we work with our
- 37:58Speaker 6: membership of more than the thousand companies, many of rich,
- 38:01Speaker 6: eighty percent of small to medium size, helping them with
- 38:04Speaker 6: advocacy and helping them understand how to compete in a
- 38:07Speaker 6: regulated and innovative environment, and helping secure a prosperous future
- 38:12Speaker 6: for North America's tech companies.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Now we don't see just the huge players like Sony
- 38:17Speaker 1: and Phillips and some of these others. We see also
- 38:20Speaker 1: the small startups that find CES to be a great
- 38:23Speaker 1: launching ground for them.
- 38:24Speaker 6: That is so true. One of my favorite areas that
- 38:27Speaker 6: the show is in the Venetian Eureka Park. I equate
- 38:30Speaker 6: it to like a Moroccan bizarre. You have a thousand
- 38:33Speaker 6: startups in ten by tens each trying to get your
- 38:36Speaker 6: attention to talk about the product that is the next
- 38:38Speaker 6: big thing. That's where startups like Ring and Impossible Burger
- 38:42Speaker 6: came to market, found partnerships and really got to tell
- 38:45Speaker 6: their story. And I'm excited for some of the brands
- 38:48Speaker 6: that we'll see this year. We're going to see I
- 38:50Speaker 6: don't have green thumbs. There's going to be plant Buddies
- 38:53Speaker 6: that basically help you grow plants using AI to measure
- 38:56Speaker 6: the light, the water, humidity to make sure you can
- 39:00Speaker 6: keep that plant alive even while you're traveling, and it
- 39:02Speaker 6: will give you guidance on how to do it. And
- 39:04Speaker 6: I think it's this convergence of AI that's really going
- 39:06Speaker 6: to sort of drive our future and be additive to
- 39:09Speaker 6: help make our homes better, more livable. And we'll also
- 39:13Speaker 6: hear from companies who are helping make our world more livable,
- 39:16Speaker 6: more comfortable, more sustainable.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Yeah, we're seeing products that that are not just designed
- 39:21Speaker 1: for just business. We're seeing that stuff that we'll use
- 39:24Speaker 1: in our everyday lives, whether it be a microwave technology
- 39:27Speaker 1: or even robotic vacuum. There is products out there that
- 39:31Speaker 1: can change and even up the game of what these
- 39:34Speaker 1: products have been able to do.
- 39:35Speaker 4: That's right.
- 39:36Speaker 6: One example I think is EU Ecras in June coming
- 39:39Speaker 6: out with a first to market. It's like a Rumba
- 39:42Speaker 6: e robot that does your flaws with a mob but
- 39:45Speaker 6: it uses AI and lighter to find transparent spills on
- 39:50Speaker 6: the floor, so stuff that you might not see, this
- 39:53Speaker 6: will find it, vacuum and clean and mock around it
- 39:56Speaker 6: and then take itself back home to charge and empty out.
- 39:58Speaker 6: So that's kind of the beginning of what we're seeing.
- 40:01Speaker 6: The other thing we're seeing, especially in the Venetian is
- 40:04Speaker 6: the convergence of health technologies, health and fitness and smart home.
- 40:09Speaker 6: So it's gone beyond just a smart watch. It's really
- 40:11Speaker 6: getting down to how I'm able to manage my health
- 40:14Speaker 6: with products like Abbott's Lingo that will help me monitor
- 40:19Speaker 6: my blood sugar, my glucose to understand how that affects
- 40:22Speaker 6: my performance. I'm already tracking my sleep. I'm using new
- 40:25Speaker 6: products like eslog Siltek's glasses that are going to help
- 40:28Speaker 6: me both see but also using beamforming sound to actors
- 40:32Speaker 6: over the counter hearing aids to improve my sound and
- 40:35Speaker 6: my vision. And I can't wait for the next generation
- 40:37Speaker 6: that will have Sensus like full detection and similar to that.
- 40:41Speaker 1: One of the questions I get asked a lot is
- 40:43Speaker 1: when it comes to technology and CES announcements, what about
- 40:49Speaker 1: our cars because we see so much. I saw my
- 40:54Speaker 1: sun bought a car the other day and he brought
- 40:57Speaker 1: it by and he opened the door and I looked
- 40:59Speaker 1: at it, and I'm like, what the heck is all
- 41:01Speaker 1: this so much electronics to assist in making the drive
- 41:05Speaker 1: more enjoyable and more safer.
- 41:07Speaker 6: That's right, and that's why we are huge advocates of
- 41:10Speaker 6: what you will see here at CES, and it's around
- 41:13Speaker 6: autonomous driving. And it's not just cars, it's much smaller
- 41:16Speaker 6: people movers. And it's also at the industrial scale. It's
- 41:19Speaker 6: how there's going to be electrification in light rail and
- 41:22Speaker 6: heavy rail construction equipment. Again, the whole it's about the
- 41:27Speaker 6: electricification of the entire mobility ecosystem, and that's what you'll
- 41:31Speaker 6: see here on the floor and outside at CES, in
- 41:33Speaker 6: addition to drive alongs to exactly see that beautiful O
- 41:36Speaker 6: lead screen in a BMW as you do a drive
- 41:40Speaker 6: along in Central Plaza. In addition to autonomous vehicles that
- 41:44Speaker 6: you'll see on the streets and smaller micromobility companies like
- 41:47Speaker 6: zoop and of course, where would we be without the
- 41:50Speaker 6: flying cars. So you're going to see companies like Xpe
- 41:52Speaker 6: doing their initial launch of their electric flying cars so
- 41:57Speaker 6: that you are seeing the whole ecosi of them.
- 42:00Speaker 1: Here now one of the cars from last year. I
- 42:02Speaker 1: remember the Mobian that caught everybody by surprise with how
- 42:06Speaker 1: it's able to move and navigate the roads and help
- 42:10Speaker 1: people in many ways while they're in their vehicles. Will
- 42:12Speaker 1: we see more vehicles like this, not.
- 42:15Speaker 6: Just vehicles, but boats as well. We can expect companies
- 42:18Speaker 6: like Brunswick to come out with electric boats that are
- 42:20Speaker 6: using AI and autonomous parking technology to help you do
- 42:25Speaker 6: some of the most challenging parts of driving a boat,
- 42:28Speaker 6: to dock it to more to take it out in
- 42:29Speaker 6: inclement weather. And I think again it's just you're seeing
- 42:33Speaker 6: it across every form of transit and transportation down to
- 42:37Speaker 6: even micromobility scooters that are going to have greater levels
- 42:40Speaker 6: of technology collision avoidance and things like that just to
- 42:43Speaker 6: help you. Not to mention wearables we've seen over time,
- 42:47Speaker 6: jackets and collars and things that detect an incoming crash
- 42:51Speaker 6: and basically act as a personal airbag. So it really
- 42:55Speaker 6: is a holistic look at the system of both safety,
- 42:58Speaker 6: and that's something that we believe that our autonomous feature
- 43:01Speaker 6: is really going to help drive safety.
- 43:03Speaker 1: We also look at our home entertainment systems. When you
- 43:06Speaker 1: think about it, the VHS and BETA, I think we're
- 43:09Speaker 1: announced at CES when they first came out, and you
- 43:12Speaker 1: look at how far we've come with these huge, giant screens,
- 43:16Speaker 1: but home entertainment change from having to pick whether it's
- 43:19Speaker 1: going to be VHS or beta or even DVD. Now
- 43:22Speaker 1: we're seeing so much digital content out there. How will
- 43:25Speaker 1: entertainment play a role in our homes with announcements made
- 43:29Speaker 1: from CS.
- 43:30Speaker 6: I mean, that's such a great question because when you
- 43:33Speaker 6: think it's it isn't just about the screen. What we
- 43:36Speaker 6: hear from consumers is that they want a seamless experience
- 43:40Speaker 6: from the TV to the phone, to the car dashboard
- 43:42Speaker 6: to the tablet, and it really is this convergence of
- 43:47Speaker 6: connected content and immersive entertainment with things like Dolby Atmostolby
- 43:51Speaker 6: Vision DTX going through devices in cars, in home, on
- 43:56Speaker 6: your phone, immersive sound in your headphones that are really
- 44:00Speaker 6: going to help bring that experience to life, and it
- 44:04Speaker 6: really is going to become a content play. That's why
- 44:06Speaker 6: we have c space at cees where you have brands
- 44:10Speaker 6: like Walmart and Amazon who were telling the story about
- 44:14Speaker 6: how the entertainment ecosystem can connect across all of your
- 44:18Speaker 6: devices and be more seamless, and not just more seamless,
- 44:21Speaker 6: catering to what I want. That's bespoke to me.
- 44:24Speaker 1: One of the questions we received a couple of months
- 44:26Speaker 1: ago was translation devices. Are we seeing that technology ramping
- 44:31Speaker 1: up where somebody can actually wear or have on their
- 44:35Speaker 1: smartphone and automatically understand that language and translate.
- 44:40Speaker 6: It for you massively. And the technology it's general AI
- 44:45Speaker 6: informed and it's just going to keep getting better. I
- 44:48Speaker 6: used it on a recent trip to France. I would
- 44:51Speaker 6: take a picture of a sign and I would have
- 44:53Speaker 6: it translate what's on the sign, so I knew everything
- 44:56Speaker 6: that was on the menu, and it's instantaneous. It's also
- 44:58Speaker 6: going to be projecting to my earbuds or my headphones
- 45:02Speaker 6: if I'm wearing them. The other thing that we're going
- 45:04Speaker 6: to see a lot of this year is smart AAR
- 45:08Speaker 6: informed glasses. So whether it's like the Meta glasses and
- 45:12Speaker 6: many other startups coming to market with their tape on
- 45:14Speaker 6: those products. Many are crowdfunded or coming up through Kickstarter
- 45:17Speaker 6: as well so at Eureka Park and also from estublished
- 45:20Speaker 6: established brands like Eslor, Luxotica, and Meta. It's really going
- 45:24Speaker 6: to be about this convergence of augmented reality glasses just
- 45:27Speaker 6: like you're wearing. It's going to be more data infused.
- 45:30Speaker 6: Maybe it's maybe you're taking pictures, notes, or simply having
- 45:33Speaker 6: an overlay so you're not having to have your nose
- 45:35Speaker 6: in your phone while you're navigating down to midtown Manhattan.
- 45:38Speaker 1: You know, one of the things I'm wondering about is
- 45:40Speaker 1: you go to an optalmologist, you get a prescription for
- 45:43Speaker 1: your glasses, and over time you love these glasses. Over
- 45:46Speaker 1: time your eyes maybe they need a little more work,
- 45:48Speaker 1: they need a stronger prescription. I kind of wonder if
- 45:51Speaker 1: they'll be able to adjust that in the lens itself.
- 45:54Speaker 6: I mean, I wouldn't doubt it, or maybe the smart
- 45:56Speaker 6: contact lens of the future. I mean, it's this, this
- 45:59Speaker 6: is where you see there if possible.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Now I have to ask you, Patrick, what excites you
- 46:03Speaker 1: the most when you're walking the show floor, which is
- 46:06Speaker 1: absolutely huge. If nobody has been to CS that we're
- 46:11Speaker 1: talking to it, it's just amazing.
- 46:13Speaker 6: I think we're saying it's more than thirty football pitches,
- 46:16Speaker 6: but even that doesn't make sense until you kind of
- 46:19Speaker 6: count your steps at the end of the day and
- 46:21Speaker 6: you realize you've basically just walked to marathon. But it
- 46:24Speaker 6: really is about you can choose your adventure here. So
- 46:27Speaker 6: if you want to dive in on mobility, or if
- 46:29Speaker 6: you want to learn about startups, or if you want
- 46:31Speaker 6: to get into digital health, we have curated experiences and
- 46:34Speaker 6: also really compelling conference programming and keynotes from like Delta's
- 46:39Speaker 6: Ed Bastian Tomorrow Night, Panasonic. In the video Tonight the
- 46:41Speaker 6: World's Most Valuable Company, Jensen Bong is going to be
- 46:44Speaker 6: on stage telling the story. And that's what I love
- 46:47Speaker 6: is that in the keynotes you'll hear the vision. In
- 46:51Speaker 6: some of the conferences, you'll hear how it's coming to life,
- 46:55Speaker 6: and then on the show floor you see it in reality,
- 46:58Speaker 6: you get to touch it, you get to and really, frankly,
- 47:01Speaker 6: the thing I love most on the floor is the serendipity.
- 47:04Speaker 6: It's running into something I didn't expect to be a
- 47:06Speaker 6: success or the surprise thing that catches all the headlines,
- 47:10Speaker 6: like bird Buddy last year, who'd have thought everybody in
- 47:13Speaker 6: the world just wants to spend time looking at the
- 47:15Speaker 6: birds in their garden.
- 47:16Speaker 1: And here we are. Yeah, exactly the para. So many
- 47:19Speaker 1: great products, and again, if our listeners want to keep
- 47:21Speaker 1: an eye on this, they can do that, keep an
- 47:24Speaker 1: eye on the keynotes, they can check out the show floor.
- 47:27Speaker 1: Great video presentations last year, and I know you're going
- 47:30Speaker 1: to have more of the same for this year.
- 47:31Speaker 6: Huge amount more finded on cs dot tech and that
- 47:33Speaker 6: Cees on Socials will be live streaming a whole lot,
- 47:37Speaker 6: including much of the conference programming. The keynotes will be
- 47:39Speaker 6: out there live as well, and can definitely encourage you
- 47:42Speaker 6: to tune in, especially for new venues. Light in the video,
- 47:45Speaker 6: the miklopolcho Arena tonight and then Delda at Sphere tomorrow
- 47:49Speaker 6: night with Lenny Kravitz.
- 47:51Speaker 4: That's going to be a show.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Nice, great stuff. Patrick, Thank you so much for coming
- 47:54Speaker 1: on tech Talk Radio. I hope you got your new
- 47:57Speaker 1: shoes ready to go. It's a lot of WHI thank
- 48:01Speaker 1: you for coming on tech talk Radio. We'll be back
- 48:05Speaker 1: with more of tech talk Radio coming up next and
- 48:08Speaker 1: now fact to tech Talk Radio. Great discussion with cees
- 48:13Speaker 1: I'm kind of wondering is there anything Justin and Sean
- 48:16Speaker 1: that you've said, Oh, I want to have that that
- 48:18Speaker 1: maybe you've heard about. I'll let Shan go first because
- 48:22Speaker 1: I got something, but I'll let show Okay, all right, Sean,
- 48:26Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 48:27Speaker 5: I think more of what my kids are gonna want,
- 48:31Speaker 5: right right, and that's legos.
- 48:34Speaker 1: Legos legos and paw patrol stuff.
- 48:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 48:42Speaker 3: Oh I've been there.
- 48:42Speaker 1: I remember that.
- 48:43Speaker 5: And uh yeah, I gotta say.
- 48:46Speaker 3: The one thing that I did see from Cees was
- 48:49Speaker 3: that robotic vacuum with with the with the robotic arm.
- 48:53Speaker 1: Oh isn't that awesome That can actually reach.
- 48:56Speaker 3: Out and grab an item in front of it and
- 48:58Speaker 3: move it out of the way so it can vacuuming.
- 49:01Speaker 3: That's the one thing that I have a problem with
- 49:03Speaker 3: our robotic vacuum is I have to kill tell Eric,
- 49:06Speaker 3: always clean up your room. Make sure there's nothing on
- 49:09Speaker 3: the floor, clean up all the cat toys, you know,
- 49:12Speaker 3: all that stuff, make sure there's no catpuke on the floor.
- 49:16Speaker 3: But you know, but this this vacuum with the robotic robotic.
- 49:20Speaker 1: Arm, it is a it is a rumba right, yeah,
- 49:23Speaker 1: but no, no, it's from a company called Robo rock
- 49:28Speaker 1: and they're calling it it's the Santos two seventy. If
- 49:31Speaker 1: you go to their website at us dot roboock dot com,
- 49:34Speaker 1: you could see all the different products.
- 49:36Speaker 6: That they have.
- 49:36Speaker 1: Now they may not have the Santos two seventy on
- 49:39Speaker 1: there yet, but it does. It has an arm and
- 49:43Speaker 1: it uses AI and it could see, oh, there's a sock,
- 49:46Speaker 1: and it will pick it up and move it and
- 49:48Speaker 1: then clean the area.
- 49:49Speaker 3: I mean, I just really hope it doesn't detect like
- 49:52Speaker 3: a dog poo and think it's a sock and try
- 49:55Speaker 3: to move it and then it just spreads it all around.
- 49:57Speaker 1: Oh that, yeah, Just I don't know if you've heard
- 50:01Speaker 1: those stories about the rumbas that have done that where
- 50:04Speaker 1: they'll just roll right over it and it's just everywhere
- 50:07Speaker 1: after that. Yeah, yeah, So all right, I.
- 50:10Speaker 3: Don't know, but I mean, that's that's the one thing
- 50:12Speaker 3: I would say that is so far the coolest thing
- 50:15Speaker 3: that I've seen come out of CS. And I'm sure
- 50:17Speaker 3: there's plenty more. Honestly, we need to go to Cees
- 50:20Speaker 3: in twenty twenty six.
- 50:22Speaker 1: I was talking with Patrick earlier and I told him
- 50:26Speaker 1: next year we're coming. We'll get rooms, we'll you know,
- 50:29Speaker 1: we'll stay out there it go see us unveiled the
- 50:31Speaker 1: whole bit, do a live show, ye, do it all right,
- 50:34Speaker 1: Lucy and Tucson. Real quick question, My daughter got herself
- 50:39Speaker 1: a gaming device, I guess gaming computer. Oh my gosh, right,
- 50:44Speaker 1: her dad got it for her. But but about the games?
- 50:48Speaker 1: Can you rent them online and play them? What's the
- 50:51Speaker 1: best way to get games for a gaming computer?
- 50:54Speaker 5: What games is she interested in? That's the big key.
- 50:57Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I mean we can't really answer that question
- 51:00Speaker 1: with not her being here. Yeah, how about it.
- 51:03Speaker 5: But there's I mean, it's whatever she's interested, whatever the
- 51:07Speaker 5: person using the computer is interested in playing, right, because
- 51:10Speaker 5: then you're gonna have to download that specific vendors launcher
- 51:15Speaker 5: Steam obviously is a big one, right, so Blizzard you
- 51:19Speaker 5: if you're into Bizzard Games, Steaming, epic launchers, Origin, xbo
- 51:24Speaker 5: I mean, good old, good old games, Xbox game Pass.
- 51:28Speaker 3: I mean, I mean, there's a there's a ton of them.
- 51:30Speaker 3: But I mean, honestly, I would say I would personally say,
- 51:34Speaker 3: let's just start with Steam. Steam it is the website
- 51:38Speaker 3: is steampowered dot com, not Steam dot com, steam power
- 51:41Speaker 3: dot com. That is the probably the go to place
- 51:45Speaker 3: for PC games. I mean, there's about a million and
- 51:48Speaker 3: a half games on Steam. It's it's by a company
- 51:53Speaker 3: called Valve, which is a very famous company. Second on
- 51:57Speaker 3: the list, I would say, like Sean said, I'd say
- 51:59Speaker 3: probably Blizzard. Blizzard has a ton of games because they're
- 52:03Speaker 3: Activision Blizzard, which happens to also be owned by Microsoft.
- 52:08Speaker 3: You've got World of Warcraft, You've got StarCraft, you've got Overwatch.
- 52:13Speaker 1: We don't yeah, we don't know how how old the
- 52:15Speaker 1: Lucy's Daughter is so yeaheah.
- 52:17Speaker 5: I don't.
- 52:17Speaker 3: I don't know, but I mean there's a ton. And
- 52:20Speaker 3: then like dog Sean mentioned, Good Old Games has another one,
- 52:23Speaker 3: gog oh like those. Xbox game Pass is a great
- 52:26Speaker 3: because Xbox game Pass nineteen ninety nine dollars a month.
- 52:29Speaker 3: You get access to a butt load of games for
- 52:33Speaker 3: you know, for that and it can all be played
- 52:34Speaker 3: on PC and on the go on your tablet or phone.
- 52:38Speaker 3: That's kind of like renting them, right, I mean, you know,
- 52:40Speaker 3: kind if you think of the old Blockbuster days, we'd
- 52:42Speaker 3: pay you know, four bucks a night.
- 52:44Speaker 1: If so, you know that that would work out pretty good.
- 52:47Speaker 3: And game pass basically you pay the monthly fee and
- 52:49Speaker 3: then you get access to the games, and the games
- 52:51Speaker 3: usually last ninety to one hundred and eighty days and
- 52:55Speaker 3: then they start going away eventually, but if they're more popular,
- 52:57Speaker 3: they'll stay longer.
- 52:58Speaker 1: But you know, they wrote take games all the time.
- 53:01Speaker 1: I like good old games. I like that one because
- 53:03Speaker 1: then you can play, you know, Loura Croft, some of
- 53:05Speaker 1: the old games. And that's the thing when your parent
- 53:07Speaker 1: and your kids start gaming, you want them to play
- 53:09Speaker 1: the games you played, and then you introduce them to
- 53:12Speaker 1: the games, and then they get angry with you because
- 53:14Speaker 1: the graphics are just awful.
- 53:16Speaker 3: I know, I'm trying, man. I keep telling Eric about
- 53:19Speaker 3: all these games I played, and he's like, dude, this sucks.
- 53:24Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 53:24Speaker 5: I do like the old games.
- 53:26Speaker 3: Uh.
- 53:27Speaker 5: And one of my favorite games that I have and
- 53:30Speaker 5: you can get it on go og checks Quest check Quest.
- 53:34Speaker 1: I don't know that one. That Wasn't that a free
- 53:37Speaker 1: game that came in a box of chex mix you checks?
- 53:41Speaker 5: Yes. The company them, tenter Mills River, they released they
- 53:46Speaker 5: made a game called check checks Quest that they shipped
- 53:51Speaker 5: out millions of CDs in checked Cereal Man, and it
- 53:56Speaker 5: became it's a it became a cult classic video game. Yeah,
- 54:00Speaker 5: And then they ended up remastering it and it's it's
- 54:03Speaker 5: it's it's incredible.
- 54:04Speaker 1: You guys have no idea though, of the joy of
- 54:07Speaker 1: getting a box of Cereal. Right, okay, you get a
- 54:10Speaker 1: game in one, but did you ever get a forty
- 54:12Speaker 1: five rpm record on the back of the box that
- 54:15Speaker 1: you could take cut out of the box of Cereal,
- 54:18Speaker 1: put it on a record player and it would play what.
- 54:21Speaker 3: Is a forty five rpm?
- 54:22Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I'm just messing with you all right now.
- 54:27Speaker 2: I mean we're we're old enough to remember like getting
- 54:31Speaker 2: demo CDs in PC magazines, oh yeah, and playing the
- 54:36Speaker 2: ever living out of the demos, never getting the original games, yeah,
- 54:40Speaker 2: and then then playing the playing the actual.
- 54:42Speaker 5: Game like twenty years later, like this game sucks.
- 54:47Speaker 1: All right, listen. That's it for this week's Tech Talk Radio.
- 54:49Speaker 1: Thank you for joining. We'll have more next week. We'll
