- 1:06Tom Jackobs: Kim, welcome to the show.
- 1:07Kim Ades: Thank you so much for having me.
- 1:09Kim Ades: I'm really delighted to be here today.
- 1:11Tom Jackobs: Yes I'm really excited too to help the audience with some of those blind spots that they're seeing in their business.
- 1:18Tom Jackobs: 'cause I know that's a lot of what you do to help.
- 1:21Tom Jackobs: So I'm really excited to go into that your story and definitely how they can implement some of the stuff that you've implemented.
- 1:28Tom Jackobs: But before we do that, the first question I always like to ask is, what's your definition of a heart-led business?
- 1:35Kim Ades: For me, a heart-led business is when the owner is running a business that they would run without an income.
- 1:44Kim Ades: In that w ords, they would do it regardless of money.
- 1:47Kim Ades: So if I retired tomorrow or if I sold my business.
- 1:51Kim Ades: What would I do?
- 1:51Kim Ades: I would still be doing this because it's like I'm so drawn and pulled to it, I can't not do it.
- 1:59Kim Ades: So that is my definition of a heart-led business.
- 2:02Tom Jackobs: I love that definition too, because it, that really does describe a lot of the heart-led business owners that I speak to is that, I would do the and to be fair, a lot of'em do it for free anyway in terms of how they're charging.
- 2:16Kim Ades: Yes.
- 2:16Tom Jackobs: Like.
- 2:16Tom Jackobs: That's
- 2:17Kim Ades: a whole different story.
- 2:18Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 2:19Tom Jackobs: And that's really the crux of the program too of the show is to help people realize that you can still make a profit and still be heart-led doing it.
- 2:29Kim Ades: Of course.
- 2:29Kim Ades: And I think that when you do make a profit you can be more heart-led.
- 2:34Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 2:35Tom Jackobs: It becomes easier, right?
- 2:37Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 2:37Kim Ades: Absolutely.
- 2:38Tom Jackobs: So tell us a little bit about your business and what makes it heart-led.
- 2:42Kim Ades: So I am the president and founder of an executive coaching company called Frame of Mind Coaching, and we have been coaching leaders or what we call the highly driven population for the almost 21 years.
- 2:56Tom Jackobs: Oh wow.
- 2:56Kim Ades: we have a very unique approach and philosophy around coaching.
- 3:02Kim Ades: And so one of the things that we do is we go very quickly with our clients.
- 3:06Kim Ades: So we coach people who tend to be impatient and want results quickly, and we go very deep and it's a very intimate experience.
- 3:16Kim Ades: And so what happens is we usually start with a 10 week coaching period.
- 3:21Kim Ades: We have a call every week.
- 3:24Kim Ades: We record every call so that our clients can listen to the recordings, and they're expected to listen to the recordings so that they can hear how they show up, what they say, the stories they tell, et cetera.
- 3:35Kim Ades: But then in between every call we ask them to journal in a private and secure online journal.
- 3:42Kim Ades: Every single day, even on the weekends with their coach.
- 3:46Kim Ades: So what is at the beginning of the week, we give them a journaling question or a journaling prompt, and they journal and every time they journal, which is daily, their coach is on the other side of that journal.
- 3:58Kim Ades: Asking more questions, providing coaching, encouragement, challenging them, sometimes reminding them of their goals, et cetera, et cetera.
- 4:06Kim Ades: So imagine working with somebody on a daily basis to help you get to where you want to go.
- 4:12Kim Ades: That's not really common in the coaching industry at all, but I think of it like, Hey, imagine you're an Olympic athlete.
- 4:21Kim Ades: How much time are you spending with your coach?
- 4:24Kim Ades: Every waking moment of every day, right?
- 4:26Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 4:27Kim Ades: When we think about coaches in the business world or the executive world, is there anything that closely resembles that level of coaching?
- 4:40Kim Ades: And there isn't?
- 4:41Kim Ades: And this is as close as it gets.
- 4:43Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 4:45Tom Jackobs: Oh, that's amazing.
- 4:46Tom Jackobs: And so 21 years of being in business, what got you into that business in the first place?
- 4:53Kim Ades: Things got me into the business.
- 4:55Kim Ades: Maybe more than two, but let's start with two.
- 4:57Kim Ades: I'm a bit of a serial entrepreneur, so before I owned this business, I owned another business and we used to build simulation based assessments.
- 5:07Kim Ades: And the purpose of assessments was to help companies make better hiring decisions.
- 5:11Kim Ades: Keep in mind, that was like 30 years ago when simulations weren't even technologically.
- 5:19Kim Ades: At the place they are now, right?
- 5:21Kim Ades: Like we were
- 5:21Tom Jackobs: yeah.
- 5:22Kim Ades: bleeding edge of technology and it was pretty bad at the time, but we were still on the forefront.
- 5:28Kim Ades: And so we learned a lot about what differentiates top performers from other people.
- 5:33Kim Ades: And one might think it's, their experience, their education, their level of intelligence.
- 5:39Kim Ades: Whatever their personality and none of that is accurate.
- 5:43Kim Ades: What we discovered was that there was one key difference between top performers and other people, and that was their degree of emotional resilience, not only their resilience, but their ability to take an adverse experience, so something goes bad.
- 5:59Kim Ades: They not only get up fast they recover quickly, but then they leverage that negative experience in some kind of way.
- 6:06Kim Ades: And so it was one piece of information that was
- 6:09Tom Jackobs: very valuable.
- 6:10Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 6:10Kim Ades: But I sold my business after 10 years of running it and I got recruited within a few weeks to work for a coaching company here in Toronto as their VP of marketing.
- 6:22Kim Ades: And I got to observe how they coach.
- 6:26Kim Ades: And my mind, I felt like they were missing some key components and they were getting it wrong, and I thought I could do a better job.
- 6:36Kim Ades: So that's when, and besides, once you're an entrepreneur, it's really hard to work for someone else.
- 6:41Tom Jackobs: Oh, of course.
- 6:42Kim Ades: I lasted like eight and a half months and
- 6:45Tom Jackobs: Oh, wow.
- 6:46Tom Jackobs: That's long.
- 6:47Kim Ades: As long we agreed to part ways and I was so relieved.
- 6:51Kim Ades: But then I said, I am going to try this on my own.
- 6:54Kim Ades: And that's when I started framing my coaching.
- 6:58Tom Jackobs: That's great.
- 6:59Tom Jackobs: What a journey, and I'm sure like that the journaling that you have, your your clients go through really touches to their heart as well.
- 7:09Tom Jackobs: Does it not?
- 7:11Kim Ades: I Absolutely.
- 7:12Kim Ades: So when we look at the this combination that I'm talking about, the emotional resilience component and my observation of how other coaches did their work.
- 7:23Kim Ades: What I realized is that what we really need to do is people by and large know what to do, but they're not doing it.
- 7:31Kim Ades: And the question is why?
- 7:32Kim Ades: What's actually getting in the way?
- 7:35Kim Ades: Let's take weight loss as an example.
- 7:37Kim Ades: Most people know what their supposed to do.
- 7:39Kim Ades: And they do it for a period of time, but for some reason they can't seem to do it consistently.
- 7:44Kim Ades: And the question is, how come what's actually blocking that progress?
- 7:49Kim Ades: And it has to do with the way they think, the way they see the world, the way they see themselves, what beliefs they have, and where those beliefs come from.
- 7:56Kim Ades: It has to do with their brain and the wiring of their brain.
- 8:00Kim Ades: And so it, a great coach doesn't just.
- 8:03Kim Ades: Hold someone accountable and make sure they're doing all the things that they need to do.
- 8:07Kim Ades: A great coach really gets to the root of that problem and re helps the person rewire the brain right?
- 8:14Kim Ades: so I said my mind, I need to understand how this person thinks and how their thinking impacts everything they don't do, and how they do everything and understand where their thinking is leading them astray.
- 8:32Kim Ades: And just help them make some small corrections point them back in the right direction.
- 8:38Kim Ades: I don't need to manage their actions.
- 8:40Kim Ades: I don't need to hold them accountable.
- 8:42Kim Ades: I don't need to make sure they do all the things they need to do.
- 8:45Kim Ades: They don't need a babysitter, especially people who are very highly driven.
- 8:50Kim Ades: Already.
- 8:51Kim Ades: action takers, Yeah.
- 8:53Kim Ades: But they all have blind spots.
- 8:55Kim Ades: We talked about that, right?
- 8:56Kim Ades: They all have blind
- 8:57Tom Jackobs: spot.
- 8:58Kim Ades: And those blind spots.
- 9:00Kim Ades: Play havoc with them and that's their plans, goals, dreams.
- 9:05Kim Ades: And my job is to understand where their thinking creates mess for them.
- 9:11Kim Ades: And help them clean it up.
- 9:13Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 9:14Tom Jackobs: And that and so by getting them to journal on a regular basis, now you're able to see their patterns.
- 9:20Tom Jackobs: Is that the philosophy?
- 9:22Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 9:22Kim Ades: We see their patterns, we see their storylines, we see their values, we see their beliefs.
- 9:28Kim Ades: We see how they operate on a day-to-day basis.
- 9:31Kim Ades: We see what bugs them, what lights them up.
- 9:33Kim Ades: We see where they feel self-doubt and fear and worry and shame.
- 9:38Kim Ades: We see it all.
- 9:40Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 9:41Tom Jackobs: Oh, wow.
- 9:41Tom Jackobs: That's that's powerful too because like you said, a lot of the high performers.
- 9:47Tom Jackobs: They're already performing at a high level as what everybody would see from the outside.
- 9:51Tom Jackobs: But of course we feel, and I would put myself in that category of high performer as well, and serial entrepreneur like yourself, that we don't know what we don't know.
- 10:02Tom Jackobs: And by having somebody have us doing that activity on a regular basis will help us now see what those blind spots are and be able to correct those.
- 10:12Kim Ades: It is extremely powerful very high impact, and the coaches there by your side every single day, and that's not something we see in the coaching world.
- 10:23Kim Ades: It's unprecedented.
- 10:25Kim Ades: And it's extremely effective for working with those highly driven individuals.
- 10:30Kim Ades: Who are tired of being stuck in the same place, or who are tired of bumping into the same challenges over and over again, and they may not even realize it because what we discover is that people tend to create the same situations over and over again.
- 10:45Kim Ades: In different outfits, right?
- 10:47Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 10:47Tom Jackobs: You look.
- 10:47Kim Ades: a little different, but essentially there's a same through line between them.
- 10:52Tom Jackobs: Yeah, absolutely.
- 10:54Tom Jackobs: So when you were first starting the company, what was the thought process in terms of how you're going to be helping the, your ideal customer and how is that kind of coming from your heart to theirs to actually build a business?
- 11:10Tom Jackobs: So
- 11:10Kim Ades: for me, when I first started, I had a lot of fear.
- 11:13Kim Ades: Like any business owner.
- 11:15Kim Ades: And my greatest fear was that I didn't wanna be an insignificant coach.
- 11:19Kim Ades: Like I didn't wanna be a coach who had no impact or who didn't matter, who didn't make a difference.
- 11:25Kim Ades: Who left a lifelong imprint.
- 11:27Kim Ades: About it exactly that way, and I thought how do I do that?
- 11:31Kim Ades: How exactly do I do that?
- 11:34Kim Ades: When we get on the phone on a weekly basis, like how do I know exactly what to talk about and how do I have a rich conversation that delivers a ton of value?
- 11:46Kim Ades: So my entire thinking was not how do I build a business?
- 11:50Kim Ades: At the time, my entire focus was on how do I deliver mind blowing, outstanding top grade coaching?
- 11:59Kim Ades: How do I do that?
- 12:01Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 12:02Kim Ades: And so in for me, I thought I need to get inside their heads.
- 12:05Kim Ades: I need to see what they tell themselves all day, every day.
- 12:10Kim Ades: I need to hear the dialogue that's running on in their minds.
- 12:13Kim Ades: I need to see how they see the world.
- 12:16Kim Ades: I need to see how they interact with others.
- 12:18Kim Ades: I need to see the quality and style of their relationships.
- 12:22Kim Ades: I need to know them very well.
- 12:24Kim Ades: And if I don't know them very well, how could I possibly coach them?
- 12:28Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 12:28Kim Ades: And so my obsession from the get go and until today is how do we deliver coaching that is absolutely top tier.
- 12:39Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 12:39Kim Ades: And when you focus on that, the rest falls into place.
- 12:43Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 12:44Tom Jackobs: Obviously I've talked to lots and lots of coaches as well, and for many of'em the first thought is how can I create a business to provide an income for myself and
- 12:54Kim Ades: yeah, that wasn't my first thought.
- 12:56Tom Jackobs: Yeah, clearly not.
- 12:59Tom Jackobs: And you can see, and I can always see the difference as well, between the businesses and maybe that, that coaching company that you lasted eight and a half months with, which is probably more than I would've lasted,
- 13:10Kim Ades: Yeah.
- 13:11Tom Jackobs: You, were you seeing some of that in, in terms of the profit first and then let's talk about the people or were, was there,
- 13:20Kim Ades: like
- 13:21Tom Jackobs: yeah.
- 13:21Kim Ades: their whole way of operating just rub me the wrong way.
- 13:25Kim Ades: You could say,
- 13:26Tom Jackobs: Okay.
- 13:27Kim Ades: an
- 13:27Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 13:27Kim Ades: a sales team and there's, each person on the sales team was expected to make a hundred cold calls a day, and if they only made 80 cold calls, then they had to do 20 pushups.
- 13:37Kim Ades: And that just wasn't my style of leadership at all.
- 13:42Kim Ades: Another example was that their whole entire, coaching model was based on accountability.
- 13:49Kim Ades: Again, I thought, people do know what to do, why aren't they doing it?
- 13:53Kim Ades: And
- 13:53Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 13:54Kim Ades: personally, like I felt, two things I felt like as a client, the last thing I wanna do is answer to somebody else.
- 14:02Kim Ades: And
- 14:02Tom Jackobs: then the other
- 14:03Kim Ades: thing I felt was if I were a coach, the last thing I would wanna do is hold somebody accountable.
- 14:08Kim Ades: That just doesn't a whole lot of fun.
- 14:10Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 14:11Kim Ades: It doesn't sound inspiring.
- 14:13Kim Ades: It's not a growth model.
- 14:14Kim Ades: It's not anything.
- 14:16Kim Ades: And
- 14:16Tom Jackobs: yeah.
- 14:16Kim Ades: just felt something's missing here.
- 14:18Kim Ades: Like they're missing the point.
- 14:20Kim Ades: And the point is that people hold themselves back and the question is, why?
- 14:24Kim Ades: How, what's the function here?
- 14:26Kim Ades: How do we get to that?
- 14:27Kim Ades: And how do we help them mo move out of their own way?
- 14:31Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 14:31Tom Jackobs: And that's what
- 14:31Kim Ades: really happened for me.
- 14:33Tom Jackobs: Okay.
- 14:33Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 14:34Kim Ades: Going back to the how do I make money outta this?
- 14:37Kim Ades: When I first started coaching, again, I was terrified.
- 14:41Kim Ades: I had a couple of fears.
- 14:43Kim Ades: Fear number one was.
- 14:45Kim Ades: What am I gonna talk to somebody about for a whole hour?
- 14:47Kim Ades: That's way too long.
- 14:49Kim Ades: Like how are we gonna make that time go by?
- 14:52Kim Ades: And so from the get go I said, okay, I'm gonna coach a group of people.
- 14:56Kim Ades: And then if everybody talks for five or 10 minutes, then the hour will pass.
- 15:01Kim Ades: I had that strategy in mind.
- 15:03Kim Ades: The second thing that I was terrified about was that the industry I was involved with, based on my previous business, was the real estate industry.
- 15:14Kim Ades: That's where I hung out.
- 15:15Kim Ades: And so when you launch a business, you wanna go back to your network and leverage the people you know.
- 15:21Kim Ades: And
- 15:22Tom Jackobs: Yep.
- 15:22Kim Ades: I offered coaching to real estate professionals, but I wasn't a real estate professional, and I thought, what if they asked me real estate questions and I don't know how to answer those questions.
- 15:33Kim Ades: And so I found a guy to co-coach with me.
- 15:38Kim Ades: so here was the deal.
- 15:39Kim Ades: I, because I never coached anybody before I ran what's called a pilot, right?
- 15:44Kim Ades: A pilot.
- 15:44Tom Jackobs: Okay.
- 15:45Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 15:45Kim Ades: I decided to run a 10 week pilot.
- 15:49Kim Ades: I had five people in the pilot.
- 15:51Kim Ades: I charged them each$100 for
- 15:54Tom Jackobs: Wow.
- 15:54Tom Jackobs: those 10 weeks..
- 15:55Kim Ades: because
- 15:55Tom Jackobs: my gosh.
- 15:56Tom Jackobs: I wanted some.
- 15:56Kim Ades: level of skin in the game.
- 15:58Tom Jackobs: Sure.
- 15:59Kim Ades: On top of that, I hired this guy to co-coach with me, and I paid him a thousand dollars to do that, so
- 16:07Tom Jackobs: hmm
- 16:07Kim Ades: to do the math.
- 16:09Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 16:09Tom Jackobs: You lost 500.
- 16:10Kim Ades: I lost$500 in order to learn the lay of the land
- 16:14Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 16:15Tom Jackobs: That's pretty good investment then.
- 16:16Kim Ades: Yeah.
- 16:17Kim Ades: What I discovered after that, I thought it's it's a, it's an inexpensive degree right there.
- 16:22Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 16:23Tom Jackobs: Yeah,
- 16:23Kim Ades: And what I discovered after my first pilot, because the goal of the pilot is to, do a run and then get feedback and then right, make some adjustments.
- 16:33Kim Ades: And the people in the group said, we love what you're doing.
- 16:36Kim Ades: We love this journaling concept, because I did it from the very beginning.
- 16:40Kim Ades: And we don't like that guy.
- 16:43Kim Ades: You don't need him.
- 16:45Kim Ades: You don't
- 16:45Tom Jackobs: need him.
- 16:46Kim Ades: And I'm like,
- 16:46Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 16:48Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 16:49Kim Ades: to know.
- 16:50Tom Jackobs: It I think you know it makes sense like as you were talking about that, that you really don't need industry knowledge to help somebody overcome their own limiting beliefs.
- 17:01Kim Ades: Correct.
- 17:02Tom Jackobs: It's within that journaling and coming from the heart in terms of how can I serve this person and help them overcome what's missing.
- 17:10Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 17:10Kim Ades: But 21 years ago, I don't know what I was walking into, so I had some, let's call them safe measures in place to address my insecurities.
- 17:23Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 17:24Tom Jackobs: That's very smart way of doing it so that you're covering all the bases.
- 17:28Tom Jackobs: As you're building the business and working with other coaches, are there times where you're working with somebody that, or for yourself or you're wanting a heart-led business, but it comes down to I need to make some profit too.
- 17:43Tom Jackobs: Like how do you balance that kind of in our own heads I need to make money, but I don't want to, come across as too salesy or I don't wanna push people, or I'm afraid of making money.
- 17:55Kim Ades: It was, I never thought that way.
- 17:57Kim Ades: I always thought about what is the value on delivering Is that worth?
- 18:02Tom Jackobs: Okay.
- 18:03Kim Ades: From a financial standpoint.
- 18:04Kim Ades: I've, as I said, my first round I charged a hundred dollars.
- 18:08Kim Ades: The second round I charged 250.
- 18:09Kim Ades: The third round I charged 500, then 750.
- 18:13Kim Ades: And I slowly, I kept going, I'm up.
- 18:16Kim Ades: I'm way higher than that now.
- 18:18Kim Ades: Yeah, But it was always about what is the value on delivering?
- 18:22Kim Ades: And for me, when I look at it, it's really, we are delivering transformation.
- 18:28Kim Ades: We are delivering life changing experiences and that has infinite value, like there's no actual dollar amount, and it's really related to how can, how much conviction do you have about what you're delivering.
- 18:44Kim Ades: You offer?
- 18:46Tom Jackobs: Yep.
- 18:47Tom Jackobs: Yep.
- 18:48Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 18:48Tom Jackobs: And in a sales aspect, that conviction comes through as well.
- 18:53Tom Jackobs: So like in when you're in the sales conversation, having a firm conviction that yes, definitely I can help you, that comes through and enables that person to go, yeah, I'm confident now you can help me and we'll make that purchase.
- 19:07Kim Ades: team of coaches'cause I, I can't coach everybody, but I have a team of coaches that all coach from the same playbook.
- 19:13Kim Ades: So they were all trained and certified in what we call the frame of mind coaching methodology.
- 19:19Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 19:20Kim Ades: It's amazing when I can feel with absolute certainty that no matter which coach you work with, you will be experiencing an extraordinary run with this coaching.
- 19:33Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 19:34Tom Jackobs: And that, that transformation is such a key thing.
- 19:38Tom Jackobs: And I want the listeners to really key in on that too, is what Kim said about, the transformation, because that's ultimately what you sell in any type of sales situation is the experience and the transformation, not the actual pro program that you go through.
- 19:55Tom Jackobs: Because there's a million coaches out there who's gonna provide the best experience and transformation and it sounds like you've created that, that framework for people.
- 20:04Kim Ades: And I really believe that like honestly I am biased.
- 20:08Kim Ades: I will admit that, but I just don't understand how coaches coach without asking their clients to journal.
- 20:15Kim Ades: It's a night and day situation.
- 20:17Kim Ades: Like when the client doesn't journal, it's like walking into a pitch dark room with a blindfold on, and you're like going, where are the lights when the client journals.
- 20:27Kim Ades: You walk into the room, the lights are on, you have no blindfold on, and you can see where everything is.
- 20:31Kim Ades: It's that stark.
- 20:33Kim Ades: And like I encourage every single coach who's out there to look for and consider using a journal.
- 20:42Kim Ades: And
- 20:43Tom Jackobs: ofcourse
- 20:43Kim Ades: we have one
- 20:45Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 20:45Kim Ades: share.
- 20:46Kim Ades: But that's besides the point.
- 20:48Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 20:48Kim Ades: It's just crazy to me.
- 20:50Tom Jackobs: I know and when I was doing nutrition coaching, we always had people do the journaling in terms of what they ate.
- 20:57Tom Jackobs: And there, there's study after study that shows it's just the journaling alone will enable somebody to lose weight.
- 21:04Tom Jackobs: Just because they have to write down and they have to think and it becomes a conscious effort.
- 21:09Tom Jackobs: Versus eating oftentimes is very unconscious and business is the same way, right?
- 21:15Tom Jackobs: We go through, we just are the norms that we go through and we're not realizing that behavior is negatively impacting the business somehow.
- 21:25Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 21:25Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 21:26Kim Ades: And writing it down, you go, should I eat that?
- 21:29Kim Ades: Oh gee, I gotta write it down.
- 21:30Kim Ades: Maybe I'll skip it.
- 21:32Tom Jackobs: Yeah, exactly.
- 21:33Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 21:34Kim Ades: Yeah,
- 21:34Tom Jackobs: I need to get back to journaling, I think.
- 21:36Tom Jackobs: Thanks.
- 21:36Tom Jackobs: Thanks for that reminder, Kim,
- 21:38Kim Ades: absolutely.
- 21:39Kim Ades: Go back to it.
- 21:41Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 21:41Tom Jackobs: Awesome.
- 21:42Tom Jackobs: This was great.
- 21:43Tom Jackobs: So tell us about how, has there been any moments where you've just had to make that hard decision of being heart-led versus profit led in your business or in, in any of your coaching clients?
- 21:57Kim Ades: I mean like it's interesting that you make a distinction and I don't think there
- 22:00Tom Jackobs: is a distinction.
- 22:02Tom Jackobs: Okay.
- 22:02Kim Ades: Okay.
- 22:03Kim Ades: So you're
- 22:03Tom Jackobs: separating
- 22:04Kim Ades: the two.
- 22:04Tom Jackobs: Great.
- 22:05Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 22:05Kim Ades: would propose to you that they're not separate.
- 22:08Kim Ades: They're one and the same.
- 22:10Kim Ades: It's saying, Hey, is there a time when you know you have let your health go for, some kind of purpose, some kind of other, and we know that healthier people are able to serve better able to serve at a higher level.
- 22:25Kim Ades: The same thing with healthy businesses, right?
- 22:28Kim Ades: Healthy businesses can serve further, deeper, better, more efficiently, more effectively, et cetera.
- 22:35Kim Ades: So they are not different endeavors.
- 22:37Kim Ades: They are one in the same.
- 22:39Kim Ades: So did we have have hard years?
- 22:41Kim Ades: Sure.
- 22:41Kim Ades: Covid was very tough.
- 22:44Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 22:45Kim Ades: But, and the reason it was tough is not because suddenly we had to be virtual.
- 22:49Kim Ades: 'cause we were always a virtual.
- 22:51Kim Ades: Coaching business.
- 22:52Kim Ades: In other words, we always delivered coaching virtually.
- 22:56Kim Ades: But what was new is that our clients certainly didn't prioritize coaching.
- 23:01Kim Ades: They were prioritizing, their basic fundamental health, wellbeing, and safety.
- 23:07Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 23:08Kim Ades: They went away from this being their top priority.
- 23:12Kim Ades: That
- 23:12Tom Jackobs: had a
- 23:13Kim Ades: big impact on us.
- 23:14Kim Ades: So what did we
- 23:14Tom Jackobs: do.
- 23:15Kim Ades: We had to make some staffing changes.
- 23:17Kim Ades: We could no longer support the level of administrative staff that we had on the team.
- 23:23Kim Ades: Yes.
- 23:23Kim Ades: As business owners, we do need to make tough calls sometimes
- 23:27Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 23:28Kim Ades: That's okay.
- 23:28Kim Ades: It's part of running a
- 23:29Tom Jackobs: Yeah,
- 23:29Kim Ades: business.
- 23:30Tom Jackobs: And I'm glad that you challenged the whole thought of the two separate because it, you're, you are absolutely right.
- 23:35Tom Jackobs: It is you should be making a healthy profit in your heart-led business and not be afraid of doing that as well, because.
- 23:44Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 23:45Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 23:45Tom Jackobs: Because the healthier you are, the better you're able to help people.
- 23:49Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 23:49Kim Ades: A hundred percent profit isn't a shameful concept,
- 23:53Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 23:54Tom Jackobs: Good, good.
- 23:55Kim Ades: Profit isn't a bad word.
- 23:56Kim Ades: Profit is great.
- 23:58Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 23:59Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 24:00Tom Jackobs: And more
- 24:00Kim Ades: profitable we are in the coaching industry, the more viable it is.
- 24:04Kim Ades: And I can't tell you how many coaches I've come across who aren't making a profit who are really struggling, who are making like$15 per half an hour for their coaching.
- 24:15Kim Ades: I'm like,
- 24:16Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 24:17Kim Ades: that's terrible.
- 24:18Kim Ades: That's like worse than, as close to, I was 21 years ago.
- 24:23Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 24:23Tom Jackobs: Yeah.
- 24:23Tom Jackobs: No, you're absolutely right.
- 24:25Tom Jackobs: And that's one thing that I like to showcase on, on this show is that you do need to make a profit if you're gonna help people.
- 24:32Tom Jackobs: And it's so important, and I'm glad that you illustrated that for the audience as well.
