- 3:17Speaker 1: before we get into the show, I was off last
- 3:21Speaker 1: week if you didn't tell, but there was plenty of content.
- 3:24Speaker 1: But one thing that I did do last week is
- 3:27Speaker 1: put out a new post or article if you will,
- 3:31Speaker 1: on my substack. My substack link is in the description
- 3:36Speaker 1: of this episode, whether you listen to audio form or video.
- 3:40Speaker 2: And I did a.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Classic albums, albums that I would call classic from twenty
- 3:47Speaker 1: twenty to twenty twenty five. Some of them you can guess.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Most of them are on the thumbnail. But if you
- 3:56Speaker 1: like to read, and this is a very very quick read,
- 4:00Speaker 1: it's like intro reveal album from twenty twenty, blurred, next album,
- 4:07Speaker 1: and so on and so forth. So if you're interested
- 4:09Speaker 1: in that, the link to read that is in the bio,
- 4:14Speaker 1: not the bio, the description of this episode. Now, big
- 4:17Speaker 1: shout out to Hip Hop DX dot com, Double XL
- 4:20Speaker 1: mag All hip Hop dot Com, and a couple of
- 4:23Speaker 1: places where I'm getting some of my stories from. Let's
- 4:25Speaker 1: get right in to the business stuff. So you've seen it,
- 4:30Speaker 1: because I have.
- 4:32Speaker 2: That.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Jay Z, reportedly from a number of hip hop sites,
- 4:39Speaker 1: is working on an album, which is something that if
- 4:42Speaker 1: you watch my preview of maybe the last two or
- 4:44Speaker 1: three years, I've said jay Z gonna drop an album.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Of course I was wrong the other two, but this
- 4:49Speaker 1: year I feel like I'm gonna be right because the
- 4:52Speaker 1: time feels right. But this is on hip Hop dx
- 4:55Speaker 1: dot com, and so y'all know this is them jay Z.
- 5:00Speaker 1: He is reportedly set to drop music that will shake
- 5:04Speaker 1: the world. Let's get jay Z is reportedly getting set
- 5:14Speaker 1: to drop music that is going to shake people.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Huh.
- 5:19Speaker 1: The claims come from an unusual source in Cash Cobain,
- 5:23Speaker 1: who was speaking at Billboard Unfiltered Live. He said, and
- 5:28Speaker 1: I quote, I heard jay Z about to drop some
- 5:31Speaker 1: ish that's going to shake the world. That's what I heard.
- 5:34Speaker 1: That's going to shake the world.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Okay.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Now, as a source, I don't even know who this
- 5:41Speaker 1: man is. Okay, but that's besides the point. That doesn't
- 5:44Speaker 1: mean he doesn't know because I've been speculating and I
- 5:47Speaker 1: don't really know. Shake the world is kind of interesting,
- 5:52Speaker 1: but let's just go with dropping the album first. Jay
- 5:57Speaker 1: Z definitely should drop an album if he's still active,
- 6:00Speaker 1: because he has been, you know, circling in some ways.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:07Speaker 1: You see him with different underground cats, you see him
- 6:10Speaker 1: involved with the clip situation. There's enough happening from a
- 6:16Speaker 1: old school rapper standpoint for jay Z to feel like
- 6:20Speaker 1: it's time to come outside.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Let's not forget.
- 6:25Speaker 1: NAS dropped six projects in like two and a half
- 6:28Speaker 1: years mostly, and when I say mostly, I mean like
- 6:32Speaker 1: probably five out of the six critically acclaimed to some point, right,
- 6:38Speaker 1: everybody likes something. For me, Magic two was kind of
- 6:44Speaker 1: a letdown, But when I went back, I'm like, it's
- 6:45Speaker 1: just different. So I think he got six joints tho.
- 6:49Speaker 2: We grade.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Then you had the year of l L dropping with
- 6:55Speaker 1: a Q tip on the boards and who else and
- 7:00Speaker 1: Pete Rock, you know, and then you had other artists
- 7:03Speaker 1: you know, obviously Snoop keeps dropping, but then Buster, and
- 7:07Speaker 1: then you fast forward to this year and you got
- 7:09Speaker 1: the Clips are Back, and Ray Kwan dropped and Ghost dropped,
- 7:12Speaker 1: and we got Mob Deep and Daylight and Big Al
- 7:16Speaker 1: to Come select Rick dropped. Right, you even had Grandpoo
- 7:20Speaker 1: with Drop. But trust me, don't go looking for it
- 7:25Speaker 1: if you don't want to be disappointed. But you also
- 7:27Speaker 1: had Kawame come back to the rap game and drop
- 7:31Speaker 1: There's just a I could keep going on and on
- 7:34Speaker 1: old School before his time, during this time, after his
- 7:38Speaker 1: time dropping records, but I think the Clips momentum is
- 7:44Speaker 1: really crazy. And then we have a Naza premier album
- 7:47Speaker 1: that's supposed to drop this year, and we know how
- 7:50Speaker 1: like jay Z like to drop music around the time
- 7:52Speaker 1: NAS does. I know he sees it as the Titans
- 7:55Speaker 1: are dropping music, but some people look at it like, hey,
- 7:57Speaker 1: you're trying to take attention away from NAS.
- 8:01Speaker 2: The battle happened years ago, y'all relaxed.
- 8:04Speaker 1: But the thing that's interesting to me more than anything
- 8:11Speaker 1: is the shape the World part. Now there's two things,
- 8:16Speaker 1: and one I'm more excited for it than the other.
- 8:20Speaker 1: One Shaped the World. Sometimes it might be what happened
- 8:24Speaker 1: with like Missionary. I know a lot of mc MC's
- 8:28Speaker 1: a lot of fans didn't necessarily like Snooping Doctor Dre.
- 8:32Speaker 1: That was another comeback, but Snooping Doctor Dre's Missionary because
- 8:37Speaker 1: it just didn't. They thought they were gonna get doggy Style,
- 8:41Speaker 1: but you know, upgraded. I thought it was a great album,
- 8:45Speaker 1: but I could see how some features made them feel like, nah,
- 8:51Speaker 1: this ain't it. And I feel like I still think
- 8:53Speaker 1: I think I said this in my review those collaborations
- 8:57Speaker 1: which weren't all bad, like with Jelly, I kind of
- 9:00Speaker 1: like that joint. It was just them making a statement
- 9:04Speaker 1: that they've elevated since then. You know, they're not gonna
- 9:09Speaker 1: go back and rehash what they did. They're kind of
- 9:12Speaker 1: flexing where they are and their careers somewhat by the features.
- 9:17Speaker 2: And I feel like.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Jay Z could do that because he's kind of done
- 9:22Speaker 1: that where it's you know, it's more about you know,
- 9:25Speaker 1: I'm gonna do this record with this rock guy and
- 9:27Speaker 1: this country person, like I'm gonna get big names on
- 9:30Speaker 1: my album to make it seem like this big, bombastic,
- 9:35Speaker 1: you know album. But that doesn't always equal great music.
- 9:40Speaker 2: It just doesn't. Some collaborations don't mix. Others feel forced.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Sometimes you get magic depending on what it is, but
- 9:50Speaker 1: it's not something that hip hop hip hop heads will
- 9:54Speaker 1: get excited for. And that's who's running things right now.
- 9:57Speaker 1: It's about lyrics and bars. We won't talk about that
- 9:59Speaker 1: a little bit later where that's kind of back right
- 10:02Speaker 1: because another motivation motivation for jay Z was probably that
- 10:05Speaker 1: battle between Kendrick and Drake where it really came down
- 10:10Speaker 1: to some lyricism and being clever, which leads me to
- 10:14Speaker 1: the other thing I think we could get from jay
- 10:17Speaker 1: Z that I really want.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Someone said this, I think it was.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I think it might have been like Alchemists, and yeah,
- 10:28Speaker 1: I think it was Alchemist, and Freddy Gibbs said that
- 10:32Speaker 1: jay Z had been listening to Alfredo too and was
- 10:35Speaker 1: digging in, and I think Alchemist says jay Z's really
- 10:37Speaker 1: tapped into the underground.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Now.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Alchemist works with a number of dudes, from Griseldacats to
- 10:44Speaker 1: Boldie James to obviously Freddy Gibbs. I feel like that's
- 10:51Speaker 1: the jay Z I want to hear from, because when's
- 10:54Speaker 1: the last time you heard a jay Z album that
- 10:59Speaker 1: reminded you of when he was picking beats for Reasonable
- 11:03Speaker 1: Doubt or even The Blueprint, you know, or American Gangster
- 11:08Speaker 1: right where it felt like it's hip hop. You know,
- 11:13Speaker 1: it's not like, you know, let's just show off how
- 11:16Speaker 1: rich we are and how many rich friends we have.
- 11:19Speaker 1: So I feel like jay Z's kind of do for
- 11:21Speaker 1: one of those, even though four forty four with No
- 11:25Speaker 1: Id kind of gave you some of that vibe. But
- 11:27Speaker 1: I know some people didn't like that, and it was
- 11:30Speaker 1: it was a concept album also if you didn't know,
- 11:32Speaker 1: it's basically apologizing to his wife, right.
- 11:38Speaker 2: But I just wonder what is.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Going to be And when you say shake people and
- 11:44Speaker 1: shake the world, I think that has a lot more
- 11:46Speaker 1: to do with what he may choose to say, right,
- 11:51Speaker 1: Because there's the Diddy situation. They kept trying to push
- 11:56Speaker 1: jay Z right into that situation. There's the lawyer that
- 12:00Speaker 1: was going at him, trying to get money out of him. Right,
- 12:03Speaker 1: there's a state of hip hop at this point. What
- 12:05Speaker 1: does j have to say about hip hop? There's the
- 12:08Speaker 1: current president? Will he have some bars for him? So
- 12:13Speaker 1: I think what's great about this is jay Z will
- 12:17Speaker 1: have a lot to say because there's nothing worse than,
- 12:22Speaker 1: you know, God taking this long to come out and
- 12:24Speaker 1: just talk about the same things he's always talked about.
- 12:28Speaker 1: I don't mind jay Z talking about how rich he
- 12:30Speaker 1: is because that's where he started, that's where he's always been.
- 12:33Speaker 1: That's that's a part of his brand to flaunt his wealth.
- 12:38Speaker 2: But if we can get.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Fifty boom back, and I mean really boom back, I'll
- 12:47Speaker 1: be with that.
- 12:48Speaker 2: So what do you think?
- 12:50Speaker 1: Are you anticipating the new jay Z album? You have
- 12:53Speaker 1: any idea what you want from jay Z? Leave your
- 12:57Speaker 1: comments in a common section below. Next the same, everybody
- 13:04Speaker 1: talk about stove God cooks and I love it. I
- 13:08Speaker 1: love it The clips putting Stove God on their latest
- 13:12Speaker 1: album like God sort them out on the track Fiico,
- 13:17Speaker 1: that's who stove God is for those who didn't know,
- 13:19Speaker 1: He's the one doing the hook right. Fetti's so strong
- 13:24Speaker 1: you gotta bag it with when eye closed inside out.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Everybody loving stove God, But Stove God been around for
- 13:34Speaker 1: a minute, at least in his current form. As twenty twenty,
- 13:39Speaker 1: with his debut album produced by Rock Marciano, I was
- 13:44Speaker 1: gonna say break Lights, that's not the name of it.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Reasonable draft is the name of it, right, And ever
- 13:52Speaker 1: since then, we've been looking for a new Since twenty twenty,
- 13:56Speaker 1: we've been looking for a new Stove God, and all
- 13:58Speaker 1: we've gotten is he's got signed to Griselda, He's done
- 14:02Speaker 1: a ton of hooks, he's done a.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Verse here and there.
- 14:06Speaker 1: He released the project stop calling Me I'm Cooking That
- 14:11Speaker 1: was quickly taken down, but also still sent to people
- 14:15Speaker 1: so a lot of us have it. He does this
- 14:20Speaker 1: hook on a Clips album. Everybody's talking about Stove God
- 14:26Speaker 1: endorsing him. On Jadakisson Fat Joe's podcast, they play part
- 14:32Speaker 1: of a song that was on that EP he dropped
- 14:35Speaker 1: I guess that was a year or two ago, called
- 14:38Speaker 1: Marvin Yay and the Internet it's like, yo, this song
- 14:41Speaker 1: is crazy when the album coming.
- 14:43Speaker 2: But the problem with that and we hope it gets solved.
- 14:49Speaker 1: We hope jay Z works the magic he did with
- 14:51Speaker 1: the Clips and known to have done with others do
- 14:54Speaker 1: the same thing with Stove God in some way, because
- 14:59Speaker 1: he can't really drop an album, and that's why he
- 15:01Speaker 1: hasn't dropped an album, and that's why that project that
- 15:04Speaker 1: everybody's kind of discovering now was pulled down and never
- 15:09Speaker 1: and then never saw the.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Apple Music's in the Spotify's. It was never on there, right,
- 15:14Speaker 2: It was.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Hand in hand, which was appropriate for Stole God, but
- 15:18Speaker 1: it was so crazy that it was like, you know,
- 15:22Speaker 1: everybody need to hear this, And now that everybody got
- 15:25Speaker 1: a snippet of it, and all these endorsements from Rhapsody
- 15:29Speaker 1: and all of that are just coming out the woodworks.
- 15:33Speaker 1: We need an album from the man like we need one,
- 15:36Speaker 1: and I'm pretty sure he's so he probably sitting on
- 15:39Speaker 1: some heat so thirsty to drop it, but can't now.
- 15:45Speaker 1: From what I understand, there was I guess he was
- 15:49Speaker 1: signed to Rock Marcy or something like that, and they
- 15:53Speaker 1: had a situation and split. And there was another project
- 15:57Speaker 1: that was leaked not too long after Reasonable Drought that
- 16:02Speaker 1: I think was leaked purposely. But every time Stove God
- 16:06Speaker 1: has tried to come out in some ways, and I
- 16:10Speaker 1: think Westside Gunners did an excellent job of When he
- 16:13Speaker 1: puts him on his album, it's just like you know,
- 16:16Speaker 1: a verse head a hook dad. You know, it's never
- 16:19Speaker 1: a full on song or the hook is so long
- 16:22Speaker 1: it might as well be a verse. But I'm hoping
- 16:26Speaker 1: we get an album because this is this is the
- 16:30Speaker 1: worst thing that could happen for not only him, who
- 16:34Speaker 1: has momentum right now, but also just hip hop in general.
- 16:39Speaker 1: That we in twenty twenty five were still getting dope
- 16:42Speaker 1: music shelved or blocked because of business, and most of
- 16:48Speaker 1: the time it's not even just because of business. It's
- 16:51Speaker 1: usually personal and they're using the business to do things
- 16:55Speaker 1: to one another, you know what I'm saying.
- 16:57Speaker 2: So I don't know, man. Stove God said this, and
- 17:03Speaker 2: he said this.
- 17:05Speaker 1: That you can expect an album from him in twenty
- 17:08Speaker 1: twenty five. If that happens, twenty twenty five could potentially
- 17:16Speaker 1: be a stellar year considering all of the great music
- 17:20Speaker 1: that started to drop, and it just keeps on going,
- 17:23Speaker 1: especially if you get Jay and It's dope and Nas
- 17:25Speaker 1: and the Mob Deep turns out to be good. Like
- 17:28Speaker 1: if you get all these albums being good. Jid's album
- 17:32Speaker 1: was crazy, like shout out to Lupe Fiasco. He did
- 17:36Speaker 1: like a Samurai DX. I guess it's supposed to be
- 17:40Speaker 1: a deluxe, but it was like a reworking of a
- 17:42Speaker 1: lot of songs from his album from last year, Samurai,
- 17:45Speaker 1: and it's fantastic, Like I love it. I don't know
- 17:49Speaker 1: if I like it more than the original. I might,
- 17:52Speaker 1: but it's great. But again, it's a lot of dope music.
- 17:55Speaker 1: And then we finally get a Stove God album. I'm
- 17:59Speaker 1: not gonna know what to do with myself. I'm really not,
- 18:04Speaker 1: So tell me what you think about Stove Guide. You
- 18:07Speaker 1: like them, you don't anticipate in the album. Do you
- 18:10Speaker 1: have that album that was released or that it was
- 18:13Speaker 1: an EP that was released not that long ago. Leave
- 18:15Speaker 1: your comments in a comment section below. I do check
- 18:18Speaker 1: comments lastly. So there's certain things with this podcast that
- 18:28Speaker 1: I almost refuse to do just because, not only because
- 18:32Speaker 1: everybody's checking it out or doing these things themselves, and
- 18:37Speaker 1: I'm trying to, you know, separate myself from other hip
- 18:40Speaker 1: hop creators or whatever content creators. But every now and
- 18:46Speaker 1: again I made jump in the fray and talk about,
- 18:49Speaker 1: you know, what's going on. But there was one thing
- 18:51Speaker 1: I was kind of ignoring until I couldn't really ignore
- 18:54Speaker 1: it that much, and that was young Thug right, because
- 18:56Speaker 1: I didn't really care about the snitching not snitching, blah
- 18:59Speaker 1: blah blah. This is hip pop music and culture. Jail
- 19:03Speaker 1: time and street stuff don't really have anything to do
- 19:06Speaker 1: with it, so I thought. So these tapes are out
- 19:11Speaker 1: of him giving his opinion on Kendrick and why Kendrick
- 19:15Speaker 1: won't be better than Drake and how and really like
- 19:19Speaker 1: looking at hip hop as a monetization tool and saying
- 19:24Speaker 1: what Kendrick is doing by not collaborating is messing up
- 19:30Speaker 1: the hip hop game and not good for hip hop.
- 19:34Speaker 1: And then he kind of goes on to say, like,
- 19:37Speaker 1: you know, start referencing referencing the streets in regards to
- 19:42Speaker 1: hip hop, and it was almost as if and it
- 19:44Speaker 1: wasn't just him, but it was almost as if the
- 19:48Speaker 1: streets equaled hip hop. And I kept of course, I
- 19:53Speaker 1: got a call at this time, which is terrible, but
- 19:59Speaker 1: I kept thinking to myself, that's crazy because on the
- 20:04Speaker 1: one hand, some people may say to themselves hip hop
- 20:07Speaker 1: comes from the streets, but that's not what they mean.
- 20:11Speaker 1: They're talking about streets like criminals, right, illegal activity and
- 20:21Speaker 1: taking that and trying to you know, messa it with
- 20:25Speaker 1: the culture of hip hop, Like if you're not doing
- 20:27Speaker 1: this thing in hip hop that generates money and you're
- 20:34Speaker 1: focused on art and bars, you're not feeding the streets.
- 20:40Speaker 1: And I kept thinking, well, maybe streets is just a
- 20:43Speaker 1: metaphor for the culture, right, Maybe that's all he's saying
- 20:47Speaker 1: and I'm misunderstanding. But then I kept seeing a bunch
- 20:50Speaker 1: of people who were saying the same thing, and maybe
- 20:55Speaker 1: that's what he meant. But what I saw from others
- 21:00Speaker 1: it sound like, nah, this is this is about the
- 21:06Speaker 1: streets and the music. And with that, it made me
- 21:11Speaker 1: think about when the Locks used to say, like they
- 21:14Speaker 1: don't play y'all in jail, and I kept thinking to myself,
- 21:18Speaker 1: so like, like in hip hop, I would like to
- 21:26Speaker 1: think most artists are trying to impress hip hop fans.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Hip hop fans are everywhere, in jail, out of jail,
- 21:33Speaker 1: working at McDonald's, working at Wells Fargo, whatever. Hip hop
- 21:39Speaker 1: fans are everybody. Hip hop fans are street dudes, nerds, athletes,
- 21:45Speaker 1: you know, influences like hip hop fans could be anybody.
- 21:50Speaker 1: So this notion that it has to be for the streets,
- 21:53Speaker 1: or you have to be street, or you can't or
- 21:57Speaker 1: you're not really doing hip hop, it's so stupid, like
- 22:02Speaker 1: I don't understand it.
- 22:03Speaker 2: And it would take a person in Young Doug.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Who clearly is not really about being dope on the mic,
- 22:16Speaker 1: to try to define what hip hop is. And I
- 22:21Speaker 1: know he would love to say that's what it is
- 22:22Speaker 1: today though. That's the record business. That's not even genre specific.
- 22:29Speaker 1: The record business is to make money at the end
- 22:32Speaker 1: of the day, whether you're making a little bit of
- 22:35Speaker 1: money or a ton of money. Some of you dudes
- 22:38Speaker 1: in the rap game have decided that it's more important
- 22:42Speaker 1: to make money than it is to make art. And
- 22:46Speaker 1: I'm not trying to defend him. But he's an example, right,
- 22:50Speaker 1: Kendrick is an example of both. I can make the
- 22:55Speaker 1: money with the art. That's the blueprint. The street's gonna
- 23:01Speaker 1: take it or leave it. But this is what's weird
- 23:04Speaker 1: about the statement. Also, we saw the pop Out concert.
- 23:07Speaker 2: The stage looked like the streets and if you like,
- 23:11Speaker 2: nah no, they well you not from the hood.
- 23:13Speaker 1: You can't be because you usually don't see that on
- 23:16Speaker 1: stage unless you're in a smaller club. And somebody brought
- 23:20Speaker 1: everybody from the projects to be on stage with him.
- 23:23Speaker 1: So it just seemed where to hear him say that
- 23:28Speaker 1: and to hear people kind of co sign that and
- 23:32Speaker 1: refer to hip hop as the streets, But also the
- 23:36Speaker 1: streets they're referring to is not really about beats and
- 23:39Speaker 1: bars and artistry and making dope albums. It was like
- 23:45Speaker 1: the definition was changing forever for whatever he wanted it
- 23:49Speaker 1: to be. Right, I need to make this money, man,
- 23:52Speaker 1: let me get that feature being you know, selfish with
- 23:57Speaker 1: your shan.
- 23:59Speaker 2: All. You're trying to do hip hop. You messing up
- 24:03Speaker 2: the game.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Messing up the game because he's trying to do hip
- 24:06Speaker 1: hop versus trying to essentially exploit hip hop in a
- 24:12Speaker 1: way that the industry has done for years and then
- 24:17Speaker 1: turn around like it was just weird and a lot
- 24:20Speaker 1: of ways. I don't like to talk about, not that part,
- 24:23Speaker 1: but you know, oh he was snitching and blah blah
- 24:26Speaker 1: blah and you know the elite phone, like the rumor
- 24:29Speaker 1: mil Only if it involves hip hop music and culture
- 24:34Speaker 1: will I feel the need to discuss it unless I
- 24:37Speaker 1: find it extremely funny, because that's what happens sometimes.
- 24:43Speaker 2: So I thought it was crazy for.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Young Thug to kind of try to make this statement
- 24:49Speaker 1: about the music, about hip hop music, about hip hop
- 24:53Speaker 1: culture and really act as if it was really about
- 24:59Speaker 1: the streets and not necessarily the essence.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Of what it is he does and others do. So
- 25:08Speaker 2: what do you think?
- 25:10Speaker 1: Do you like the idea that people are blearn the
- 25:13Speaker 1: line between criminal activities in the streets and music that's
- 25:19Speaker 1: hip hop and feeling like the streets is what it
- 25:22Speaker 1: is now and not that boom back stuff. Leave your
