- 8:05PSAP seeks to fund additional nine one one dispatchers. Washington
- 8:12County's Public Safety Answering Point Board is continuing to look
- 8:18for ways to fund the hiring of two additional dispatchers
- 8:22at the Dispatch Center. Last month, the Washington County Fiscal
- 8:29Court rejected a proposed two dollars per month increase in
- 8:33the nine one one fee on county water bills. Kevin Divine,
- 8:39director of the Office of Emergency Management, said half the
- 8:45shifts at the Dispatch Center are staff with two dispatchers,
- 8:50but there is only one dispatcher on duty the other half.
- 8:55Divine towd PSAP board members that would cost one thousand
- 9:00dollars to employ two full time dispatchers to fill that void.
- 9:06The original proposal to add two dollars monthly to each
- 9:09water bill would have generated about one hundred and twenty
- 9:13thousand dollars for the dispatch center. Divine said Nelson County
- 9:18adds just over fifty two dollars a year on property
- 9:22taxes to fund its nine one one center Washington County
- 9:28currently charges twenty four dollars annually with the two dollars
- 9:33a month fee on all water bills. Divine set another
- 9:40option as a part time dispatcher who is asked to
- 9:44go full time. Divine said if that happened, the center
- 9:49would only need one new full time dispatcher, which would
- 9:53lower the cost a little. At the Wednesday, June twenty
- 9:57fifth meeting of the PS board, several options were discussed.
- 10:03One member of the board proposed hiring a clerical person
- 10:07to answer calls on the non emergency phone line. This
- 10:12person would not require dispatcher training and the wage would
- 10:17be lower. Divine stated he did not feel that proposal
- 10:21was feasible and would not help with the times there
- 10:24is only one dispatcher on duty. Another proposal was to
- 10:29return to the city and county to request another contribution
- 10:34from each. Divine stated he believed the timing was bad
- 10:38to request an additional contribution since each not only recently
- 10:44made their respective contributions, but just to prove budgets for
- 10:49the upcoming fiscal year. He suggested waiting until the next
- 10:54budget year to request additional contributions. Also noted upcoming expenses
- 11:03when the proposed hotel in Manton is built. Quote, we
- 11:11will have costs for a tower, repeater, et cetera in
- 11:16the Mantin area, which has limited radio coverage right now.
- 11:23The final proposal from Springfield City Councilman Michael Hale was
- 11:29to return to the city in county to request a
- 11:32one dollar increase in the water bill fee, which would
- 11:35add sixty thousand dollars to the dispatch center budget, and
- 11:40ask for an additional fifteen thousand dollars from each on
- 11:45the next budget a year from now. Devine said the
- 11:49board has some moneies and CDs that could be used
- 11:53to offset the remaining thirty thousand dollars needed to fund
- 11:58the two employees. Quote. I'm concerned about using the CDs
- 12:04to pay for this, said County Judge Executive Tim Graves.
- 12:10That money is there in case a repeater or tower
- 12:14goes down and we need emergency repairs. Quote. The board
- 12:19voted six to one to approve Hale's proposal to request
- 12:24a one dollar increase now with annual automatic increases as
- 12:30allowed by the state. The board also approved advertising for
- 12:37the two new dispatchers now, but one board member stress, quote,
- 12:43I don't want to buy something we can't pay for unquote.
- 12:48It was agreed no one would be hired until funding
- 12:51was in place. Also at the PSAP meeting, Divine announced
- 12:58the approval of a thirty five third thousand dollars grant
- 13:01to upgrade the radio consoles at the dispatch center. Quote
- 13:07the will give us a direct link in better communication unquote.
- 13:12Devine said. The new councils will cost thirty nine thousand
- 13:18dollars and will be ordered in August. The PSAP board
- 13:22will have to pick up the additional four thousand dollars
- 13:26not covered by the grant. New sign raises questions. A
- 13:35sign near the Bartstown Road roundabout has raised questions from
- 13:41local residents. When was it installed, who installed it, and
- 13:47most importantly, what does it mean. The sign, located on
- 13:53Highway five five five south, just as you reach the roundabout,
- 13:59is a simple blue square with a question mark and
- 14:03an arrow pointing toward downtown. Several city and county officials
- 14:10were asked about the origin and meaning of the sign.
- 14:15No one seemed to know anything about it. Most were
- 14:20unaware of its existence, and all stated quote, now I'm
- 14:24curious about that sign. I want to know what it
- 14:27means unquote, losing hope of finding answers. Sun's staff did.
- 14:34What people in the twenty first century do? We googled it.
- 14:40According to the first Google search, the sign is directing
- 14:43drivers to quote motorists services like food, fuel, arrest, stop in,
- 14:50sometimes hospital unquote. A second search said quote A blue
- 14:56sign with a question mark often indicate a warning suggesting
- 15:02a potential hazard or unexpected situation on the road ahead. Quote.
- 15:09Another search set it is to alert drivers they may
- 15:14still have headlights on after a tunnel and should turn
- 15:18them off. Certainly does not apply in this situation. Yet
- 15:24another set It is directing you to information like a
- 15:28visitor center. What does that sign mean? In this instance,
- 15:33we still don't know, but the Sun is determined to
- 15:37find the answer. Obituary Sue NN Marple Chesser, seventy nine.

- 23:58Kentucky's county unemployment rates and unemployment levels are not seasonally
- 24:04adjusted because of small sample sizes. Employment statistics undergo sharp
- 24:10fluctuations due to seasonal events such as weather changes, harvest holidays,
- 24:18and school openings and closings. Seasonal adjustments eliminate these influences
- 24:25and make it easier to observe statistical trends. The comparable
- 24:30unadjusted unemployment rate for the state was four point four
- 24:34percent for May twenty twenty five and four percent for
- 24:38the nation. Kentucky seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell from five
