- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome to Revealing Wholeness podcast dedicated to revealing the profound
- 0:06Speaker 1: connections between body, mind, and spirit, where we believe that
- 0:10Speaker 1: true wellness arises from addressing the root causes of our
- 0:13Speaker 1: health challenges, not just masking the symptoms. Here we dive
- 0:16Speaker 1: deep into how holistic approaches such as advanced chiropractic care,
- 0:20Speaker 1: personalized nutrition, and natural healing practices can transform your life.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Now here is doctor Troy.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Hello and welcome. I'm doctor Troy. Hey. I love the
- 0:38Speaker 2: fear that is out there in all kinds of ways,
- 0:41Speaker 2: and if you've ever been a student of anything spiritual,
- 0:43Speaker 2: you've probably found yourself seeing fear a bit more and
- 0:47Speaker 2: more clearly, and of course wanting nothing to do with it,
- 0:50Speaker 2: which I would hope. However, this is interesting when industry
- 0:55Speaker 2: or agencies or whatever you want to call them would
- 0:59Speaker 2: like to perpetrate fear, which they have done many times
- 1:02Speaker 2: on people throughout the world. So let's go through it.
- 1:07Speaker 2: To this particular article that came across my desk is
- 1:09Speaker 2: five supplements that can harm your liver. Now it was
- 1:13Speaker 2: medically reviewed. I am surprised. I would never put my
- 1:17Speaker 2: name to this, but this person certainly did miss Melinda Rattini. Anyways,
- 1:24Speaker 2: this particular doctor that reviewed this, I want to know
- 1:27Speaker 2: what their job was. So the first supplement up is
- 1:30Speaker 2: they talked about red yeast rice. I'm thinking, ah, I
- 1:36Speaker 2: can't wait to hear how this is supposed to be
- 1:38Speaker 2: damaging to the human body. Now Here's what's hilarious is
- 1:42Speaker 2: that it says that some supplements may contain monocolin k
- 1:50Speaker 2: I'm thinking, what is that. Well, it is in the
- 1:55Speaker 2: prescription drug levostatin. I'm thinking you listed red yeast rice
- 2:03Speaker 2: as a dangerous substance to your liver. But it isn't
- 2:08Speaker 2: actually red yeast rist. Now I get it. It's a supplement,
- 2:13Speaker 2: and so we probably should be aware that there may
- 2:15Speaker 2: be some sneaky companies out there that are trying to
- 2:18Speaker 2: put out red yeast rice that have a chemical in
- 2:21Speaker 2: it that would damage your liver. And what's more hilarious
- 2:25Speaker 2: is that they gave a caution on red yeast rist,
- 2:29Speaker 2: but they didn't caution level statin. They didn't even bother
- 2:34Speaker 2: taking out the drug. They didn't even put out a
- 2:37Speaker 2: warning saying, hey, everybody on level statin, you may want
- 2:41Speaker 2: to stop that because it is known to damage your liver.
- 2:46Speaker 2: So I'm just going to let that rest right there.
- 2:48Speaker 2: It isn't actually red yeast rice. It's the chemical that
- 2:52Speaker 2: they use in a statin drug that some companies decided
- 2:57Speaker 2: to put into it to hopefully try to Oh what
- 3:00Speaker 2: they would say is enhance the red yeast rice. But
- 3:07Speaker 2: ultimately I'm just thinking, you know what, let's not put
- 3:11Speaker 2: red yeast rice as the problem. However, I digress. Next
- 3:16Speaker 2: is chaparral. Now, chapparral is an interesting little herb. It
- 3:21Speaker 2: isn't used very much, and there are some easy adulterans,
- 3:26Speaker 2: meaning just because you take chaparral doesn't necessarily mean you're
- 3:30Speaker 2: taking the right kind. So Loria tridentia is the right kind.
- 3:38Speaker 2: And I may have butchered the pronunciation of biotanical because
- 3:42Speaker 2: most of them are in Latin, but you'll get close
- 3:45Speaker 2: there if you do look it up. And this particular chaparral,
- 3:48Speaker 2: what even is more fascinating to me is what it
- 3:51Speaker 2: actually is used for. Now. It is an antioxidant, but
- 3:56Speaker 2: it's also anti tumor. I'm thinking an anti tumor what
- 4:03Speaker 2: would cut into a lot of money. Oh, being somewhat
- 4:10Speaker 2: anti cancer. Yeah, I could see that the FDA would
- 4:14Speaker 2: have a big problem with chaparral. Not that I want
- 4:16Speaker 2: you to go run out and start taking chaparral, because
- 4:19Speaker 2: while it is an antioxidant and appears to be anti tumor,
- 4:23Speaker 2: they say that it could actually cause permanent liver damage.
- 4:29Speaker 2: And I'm thinking, yeah, you didn't even cite any cases,
- 4:33Speaker 2: or you didn't even cite any research. You just made
- 4:36Speaker 2: a blanket statement. So many of these articles that I read,
- 4:40Speaker 2: I just I have hard time believing them because they
- 4:43Speaker 2: don't cite anything. Now I will say that the same
- 4:46Speaker 2: thing gets used back on nutritional supplements. You're not citing
- 4:50Speaker 2: any kind of research that says what you're administering to
- 4:54Speaker 2: people even works. And while I'll agree, it's kind of
- 4:58Speaker 2: like saying, do I need to tell you that food
- 5:01Speaker 2: is probably a good idea? Do we need research saying hey,
- 5:06Speaker 2: people that eat tend to do far better health wise
- 5:09Speaker 2: than people who don't eat, And no, we would all
- 5:13Speaker 2: be like, no, I'm going to keep eating, whether they
- 5:16Speaker 2: have some studies out or not. And so I know
- 5:20Speaker 2: that that's a bit apples to oranges. And I do
- 5:24Speaker 2: like comparing things. A lot of things that I will
- 5:26Speaker 2: bring to you that I appreciate or that I am researching.
- 5:31Speaker 2: There is a ton of research on those things. Case
- 5:34Speaker 2: in point is the next thing, which is vitamin A.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Vitamin A they say in high doses is dangerous. Now
- 5:43Speaker 2: I will agree that if you get a supplement of
- 5:46Speaker 2: beta carotene and synthetic vitamin A and you're taking high doses,
- 5:51Speaker 2: eventually it will likely cause toxicity. And as for any
- 5:55Speaker 2: kind of supplement, I would say that's probably true. And
- 5:58Speaker 2: of course every drug as it's max dose where it
- 6:03Speaker 2: is now going to cause some serious harm. So whether
- 6:07Speaker 2: we run around yelling that the sky is falling because
- 6:10Speaker 2: of vitamin a, or we just simply realize, well, yeah,
- 6:14Speaker 2: every particular vitamin or mineral or supplement or drug or
- 6:19Speaker 2: food or water or air or oxygen, too much of
- 6:23Speaker 2: anything is damaging. It's why everything is in balance. That
- 6:29Speaker 2: is why I'm pretty careful when it comes to vitamin A.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Meaning I just want to do natural things. So when
- 6:35Speaker 2: I have a vitamin A supplement that I might give somebody,
- 6:38Speaker 2: it is going to be beef or kidney lipids or
- 6:43Speaker 2: liver lipids. It's going to be a completely natural form.
- 6:47Speaker 2: But what's interesting is if they actually did cite some
- 6:51Speaker 2: research they would have had to have cited anything with acutane.
- 6:56Speaker 2: And I've talked about vitamin A and acutane a number
- 7:00Speaker 2: of times. For kids with acne, even adults that have acne,
- 7:04Speaker 2: they'll put them on accutane, which is high dose synthetic
- 7:07Speaker 2: vitamin A. Does it help their acne? Well? Yes. Do
- 7:10Speaker 2: they keep checking their kidney and their liver enzymes so
- 7:13Speaker 2: that they can tell whether or not it's damaging their
- 7:16Speaker 2: kidneys or liver, Yes, they do because it is not
- 7:21Speaker 2: okay to do synthetic high dose vitamin A, which they
- 7:24Speaker 2: do and acutane, but they tend to do it anyways.
- 7:28Speaker 2: And so it's really a wake up call for medical
- 7:31Speaker 2: doctors to read this particular section and really think, you
- 7:35Speaker 2: know what I need to think accutane when I'm doing this.
- 7:38Speaker 2: And what I thought was cool is at least they said, hey,
- 7:40Speaker 2: we encourage that you get safe forms of vitamina such
- 7:43Speaker 2: as those things in certain fish. And while that is awesome,
- 7:48Speaker 2: that's where I would prefer that you get it too.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I love doing cod liver oil with folks because each
- 7:55Speaker 2: caplet contains two thousand international units of real natural rent
- 8:00Speaker 2: andyl palmitate, which is what we would like to have
- 8:03Speaker 2: on the body instead of trying to convert beta caroteene
- 8:05Speaker 2: of spinach, carrots and other things to try and make
- 8:09Speaker 2: that rent and al palmitate in our body. So, again,
- 8:13Speaker 2: for those of you that are like, wait a minute,
- 8:14Speaker 2: do you just talk about acne and vitamin A? I
- 8:16Speaker 2: want to hear no more about that. Well, I have
- 8:19Speaker 2: done podcasts on vitamin A and acne, and so you're
- 8:22Speaker 2: welcome to pull them up. But at a brief nutshell,
- 8:24Speaker 2: vitamin A gets its title or its name A because
- 8:28Speaker 2: they realized it was anti infection. And if you have acne,
- 8:31Speaker 2: you have infection on your face, and it means that
- 8:34Speaker 2: you have a lot of toxicity coming out of your
- 8:37Speaker 2: skin rather than going through your liver and gut. And
- 8:40Speaker 2: your gut is also inflamed and looks much like your skin.
- 8:44Speaker 2: And so you've got a diet that is not boding
- 8:47Speaker 2: well for your overall ability to fight infection because you're
- 8:51Speaker 2: letting it grow on the skin and in the gut
- 8:54Speaker 2: likely and so high vitamin A immediately starts to fight
- 8:57Speaker 2: infection by helping I would I'd also recommend that you
- 9:01Speaker 2: probably get a decent amount of calcium and even more
- 9:04Speaker 2: important when it comes to acne is that we do
- 9:06Speaker 2: some form of a natural vitamin E and not what
- 9:09Speaker 2: you would get in a grocery store. But that's just
- 9:12Speaker 2: my two cents. As we digress there. Now, this next
- 9:15Speaker 2: one is quite quite comical. Number four of the five
- 9:18Speaker 2: supplements they cited, and this is penny Royal. Penny Royal
- 9:23Speaker 2: in its oil form is definitely damaging, and many of
- 9:27Speaker 2: you are like, penny Royal, isn't that like a tea
- 9:29Speaker 2: in that song? Yes, and penny Royal is part of
- 9:34Speaker 2: the mint family and so it can have a minty flavor.
- 9:37Speaker 2: But the reason that Nirvana sung about or sang about
- 9:42Speaker 2: penny Royalty is because it was often used in abortions,
- 9:47Speaker 2: and so he was always a bit melancholy, and so
- 9:51Speaker 2: Kurt Cobain, obviously not with us anymore, would talk about
- 9:55Speaker 2: penny Royal tea. Anyways. That's why most of us are
- 9:59Speaker 2: not necessarily to get to know about penny royal, because
- 10:01Speaker 2: we're probably not dealing with female menstrual issues or wanting
- 10:06Speaker 2: to cause an abortion, which is what quote unquote midwives
- 10:11Speaker 2: used to do a couple hundred years ago, is to
- 10:13Speaker 2: high doses of penny royal they wouldn't necessarily do the
- 10:16Speaker 2: oil because the oil can be quite toxic to the body,
- 10:19Speaker 2: even though application of oil on the skin is used
- 10:22Speaker 2: for some medicinal purposes. So there you go, Penny Royal
- 10:27Speaker 2: tea for you last, and is certainly interesting in and
- 10:32Speaker 2: of itself. Having used this particular herb many for many,
- 10:37Speaker 2: many years with excellent results, I'm thinking, how did ashwaganda
- 10:42Speaker 2: make this list? And so they say that, well, ashwaganda,
- 10:47Speaker 2: you know, and really high doses could cause some jaundice, itching, nausea,
- 10:53Speaker 2: and lethargy or abdominal pain. Oh got it? Okay, So
- 10:58Speaker 2: well that's interesting. Ashual Ganda is something that we typically
- 11:02Speaker 2: use for those that are having emotional trouble. Now, I
- 11:07Speaker 2: will tell you that when my father passed away about
- 11:11Speaker 2: gosh almost ten years ago, after a few months of
- 11:15Speaker 2: morning I would walk around sighing, just sighing. I'd find
- 11:20Speaker 2: myself just sighing, and at some point I was like, Okay,
- 11:26Speaker 2: this is no longer okay or healthy. And I simply
- 11:31Speaker 2: took an ashwar Ganda and it was like something in
- 11:34Speaker 2: my brain simply turned a corner and it was instantaneous.
- 11:40Speaker 2: One dose, and I thought, interesting, how your brain can
- 11:45Speaker 2: get on a track and just stay on that road,
- 11:49Speaker 2: but eventually it's like you want it to get off
- 11:52Speaker 2: of that track. And ashvill Ganda seems to be super,
- 11:55Speaker 2: super helpful, and for most folks it actually doesn't take
- 11:59Speaker 2: very much and you certainly don't have to use it
- 12:01Speaker 2: very long. And so ashvial Gonda, some of you will
- 12:04Speaker 2: find that it's called Withania, and so it goes by
- 12:08Speaker 2: both names. But ashwa Ganda is excellent in small doses.
- 12:12Speaker 2: You don't really need much. You could take more, but
- 12:15Speaker 2: it really doesn't do any more than that. And so
- 12:17Speaker 2: I have clients that just like man an ashul Ganda
- 12:20Speaker 2: every couple of days, once a week is beautiful. Some
- 12:25Speaker 2: that have had some issues have been on it for
- 12:28Speaker 2: maybe six months off and on and finally like, hey,
- 12:31Speaker 2: I don't need ashvial Ganda anymore. Great. So I suppose
- 12:35Speaker 2: if we want to test the balands of ashwaganda and
- 12:38Speaker 2: high doses, we certainly could do that, but ultimately that's
- 12:41Speaker 2: not the goal is to cause jaundice, itching, nausea, lethargy,
- 12:46Speaker 2: or abdominal pain. So with that, I find it kind
- 12:50Speaker 2: of comical that Ashvialganda made this list. It was a
- 12:52Speaker 2: far stretch, but they did the best they could. So
- 12:55Speaker 2: I hope that was helpful in at least thinking of
- 12:57Speaker 2: your liver and wondering, am I taking some supplements that
- 13:00Speaker 2: may be causing my liver problem? You may not want
- 13:02Speaker 2: to look at your supplements as causing liver problem. You
- 13:04Speaker 2: may want to look at your medication. Every medication is
- 13:08Speaker 2: a chemical that is foreign to the body, almost always,
- 13:11Speaker 2: And if you have a foreign chemical in your body,
- 13:13Speaker 2: what does your body want to do with that? Does
- 13:15Speaker 2: it want to keep that chemical or does it want
- 13:17Speaker 2: to detoxic? Well, it would like to detox that chemical.
- 13:20Speaker 2: And who's going to do that. Well, the cells of
- 13:23Speaker 2: your body do have phase one phase two detoxification processes,
- 13:27Speaker 2: but most of those processes are run in the liver,
- 13:30Speaker 2: and so most chemicals in the blood are going to
- 13:33Speaker 2: be delivered to the liver and the liver is going
- 13:35Speaker 2: to have to dismantle them and break them apart. Now
- 13:38Speaker 2: I've done podcasts on that process and that The deal
- 13:41Speaker 2: is that when you have a chemical that's produced by man,
- 13:45Speaker 2: we have no idea how what constituents or what components
- 13:50Speaker 2: the body is going to try to break it down
- 13:52Speaker 2: into to try to make it inert and safe to eliminate,
- 13:56Speaker 2: and so the liver's going to do that job inside it.
- 14:01Speaker 2: To give an example, is glyphasate, which most of us
- 14:05Speaker 2: would know by now, but if some of you don't,
- 14:07Speaker 2: it is roundup, and so glyphasate when it breaks down
- 14:11Speaker 2: into its innermediaries on its way to being inert, we
- 14:15Speaker 2: think actually worse than the chemical itself, and so it
- 14:19Speaker 2: is very liver toxic or liver damaging. So spraying that
- 14:23Speaker 2: stuff around your house, eating vegetables that you know are
- 14:27Speaker 2: sprayed with it, and eating animals that eat those plants
- 14:33Speaker 2: that are sprayed with it may not be so wise
- 14:37Speaker 2: a choice for you. Now. I'm not here to generate
- 14:40Speaker 2: more fear, but just some awareness. Hey, I think I
- 14:43Speaker 2: will use my spending dollars to show where my feet
- 14:46Speaker 2: are walking, and I will buy foods that are more natural,
- 14:51Speaker 2: more organic, and less chemicalized than the average, and I'll
- 14:56Speaker 2: pay for it. Isn't it funny that we have to
- 14:58Speaker 2: pay a higher price for free food that doesn't have
- 15:01Speaker 2: this crap on it. You would think since they don't
- 15:03Speaker 2: have to buy the chemical and spray, that our food
- 15:05Speaker 2: would be less expensive it was organic. I've always wondered
- 15:08Speaker 2: why that is. However, I digress, So take a good
- 15:14Speaker 2: long look at the chemicals that are in your house,
- 15:18Speaker 2: your cleaning supplies, what you're putting on your body, what
- 15:21Speaker 2: you're allowing in your food. Those would be way higher
- 15:25Speaker 2: up the scale of things to be concerned about rather
- 15:28Speaker 2: than these five supplements. Until next time, I'm doctor Troy,
- 15:34Speaker 2: and remember there really is way more right with you
- 15:38Speaker 2: than there is wrong with you.
