Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 0:10defending biblical Christianity.
- 0:13No topic off limits.
- 0:16And now, here's your host, David Firazzo.
- 0:19Hey friends, family and Christ, thank you so much for tuning in.
- 0:23This is going to be a very important podcast because there's a lot of false teachings
- 0:27out there.
- 0:28There's a lot of, I don't want to say duct, although there are doctrines of demons.
- 0:32But there's just a disagreement and maybe some ignorance in the church about eschatology
- 0:37and we're going to talk about that with our good friend, Lee Brainer today.
- 0:41I want to direct you to his book, he's an author and speaker.
- 0:45And his most recent book, Ten Potent Proofs for the Pre-Tribulation Rapture.
- 0:49You can find that over on Amazon.
- 0:51His website is soothekeep.info, soothekeep.info, and you can find him over on YouTube under soothekeep
- 1:04and watch some of his most recent videos.
- 1:06Brother Lee, thank you so much for joining us.
- 1:08Good to see you again.
- 1:10David, it's wonderful to be with you again and I am very thankful we're taking up the topic.
- 1:15We are taking up today the coming of the Lord, the soon coming.
- 1:20Yeah, and you know a lot about this and I learned a lot from people like you, brother.
- 1:24That's why I have you come on.
- 1:26I hope we prayed before we got on that I would ask the right questions.
- 1:30Because we're going to talk about the forces that are coming against dispensationalism
- 1:35and the pre-trib rapture.
- 1:37And before we do that, you recently spoke at two different places.
- 1:45Tell us about the conference and tell us about the pastor's subtle.
- 1:49Yeah, I spoke at the Prophecy Watchers Conference in Norman, Oklahoma.
- 1:54We had a wonderful time.
- 1:55I spoke on Gog and Megog and clarified the situation for believers.
- 2:00Why Gog and Megog appears at the end of Revelation and not merely prior to the tribulation earlier
- 2:08on just prior to the end of this age.
- 2:10So that was a blessing to a lot of people.
- 2:13I also defended the rapture against the pre-rath rapture.
- 2:17At the pastor's huddle, I taught on Revelation 19 through Revelation 22.
- 2:22And a lot of the pastors that attended were very encouraged.
- 2:26They said, I blew their mind when I talked about how wonderful eternity is going to be.
- 2:31So that must be pretty provocative and informative when pastors say you blew their mind.
- 2:38So friends, I want to direct you.
- 2:41I'm over at the Olive Tree Views website and we couldn't find the exact link.
- 2:46So I want to direct you right over to Vimeo, look for Olive Tree Ministries channel on Vimeo.
- 2:54And there it is.
- 2:54You can find the pastors.
- 2:56Huddle, they already have it up.
- 2:58My goodness, they're fast.
- 3:00So they already have it up and look at all those sessions.
- 3:03You can go one by one.
- 3:05And if you have any feedback, just let Lee know or let Pastor Josh know.
- 3:10But go to Vimeo and look up Olive Tree Ministries, Olive Tree Views.
- 3:15You can find all those videos and learn a lot.
- 3:19So Lee, let's start with, well, the battle within the church about doctrines, about end times.
- 3:28Let's start there and just walk us through some of these bullet points, please.
- 3:33Yeah, well, one of the greatest battles that we face today as evangelical believers
- 3:38is the battle to maintain a biblical balance when it comes to the first coming and the second coming.
- 3:44We have tremendous forces working in the church today that want to marginalize the second
- 3:49coming or sweep the second coming under the rug or push it off into such a vast, far
- 3:54distant future that for all practical purposes, it's irrelevant.
- 3:58But the Bible presents to us the second coming with the same vigorous force that it presents
- 4:03the first coming.
- 4:05The first coming of Jesus is where God paid for redemption through His Son, Jesus Christ.
- 4:11The second coming is where the Lord delivers the redemption that He paid for.
- 4:16And if we have Christianity that focuses on the first coming and doesn't have the second
- 4:21coming in the mix, we have an unbalanced message.
- 4:25A globe has to turn our orbit or rotate on a south pole and a north pole, so does earth,
- 4:31so does any star, so does any planet, so does any sun.
- 4:35So we need both the first coming, the south pole and the second coming, the north pole
- 4:41to have a balanced message of the gospel.
- 4:44Okay, you went right to the end.
- 4:46One of the takeaways that we're going to hopefully leave people with or you, what you're
- 4:50going to present is it will leave people unbalanced if the second coming is left out.
- 4:57The second coming is a vital aspect of the message of redemption.
- 5:00So let's go to some of these forces that you mentioned and I'm glad to use the word
- 5:05forces because this is a spiritual battle, isn't it?
- 5:09When a spiritual comes to doctrine, biblically and interpretation, go ahead.
- 5:14Yeah, well, it's definitely a spiritual battle.
- 5:16A lot of people don't understand.
- 5:18They get all tied up in knots and they think we're fighting people against people.
- 5:23Really what we're fighting is believers who are more influenced by the Bible and less
- 5:28influenced by dark forces, trying to communicate with people who are more influenced by these
- 5:33dark forces and we're just trying to encourage our brethren to be more biblical.
- 5:39And these dark forces, for instance, are all millennialism which denies that the Lord
- 5:43Jesus is going to literally come in the future and literally establish the literal kingdom
- 5:48that we see in the Bible and the Old Testament in the book of Revelation and the Gospels and
- 5:53the Epistles.
- 5:55They look at the kingdom like it's a promised spiritual kingdom that's existing in
- 5:59their hearts right now.
- 6:01This undermines the authority of Scripture.
- 6:04We're fighting forces like post-millennialism which lives in, I call it a daydream, that
- 6:10the church has been given the opportunity and obligation by the Lord to establish the
- 6:15kingdom on earth right now through the gospel, through basically Christianizing or baptizing
- 6:22society to take control of all the institutions, media, education, government, the military,
- 6:29etc.
- 6:30Well, this is very different from the biblical message.
- 6:32We have not been given a message to Christianize the world.
- 6:36We've been given a message to call men out of the world.
- 6:39Yes.
- 6:40Now, this doesn't diminish our obligation to be salt and light and to spread as much salt
- 6:44and light as we can, as far as we can, as hard as we can, as fast as we can, but we're
- 6:48not going to save the world.
- 6:50We're going to save men out of the world.
- 6:52The world is headed for judgment.
- 6:54So if two follow-up questions, would the new apostolic reformation fall under post-millennialism?
- 7:00What you just mentioned wanting to, like, control or establish the kingdom now?
- 7:06Well, it absolutely does.
- 7:09And it's a variation that's basically a Pentecostal version of it, although Pentecostals
- 7:17are not the only ones that adhere to it.
- 7:19It's spreading widely through evangelicalism, and it's confusing to a lot of believers because
- 7:27they sense that we have an obligation to take the battle to the world, to take the battle
- 7:31to society, and we do.
- 7:33We have an obligation to spread the light of the gospel, the morality of the Bible, the
- 7:39spiritual heavenly-minded vigor of the Bible, to the whole world around us.
- 7:44And yet somehow this vision for spreading this light gets transmogrified into a vision
- 7:53to somehow transform the world into the kingdom of Christ.
- 7:58And this certainly is not the church's commission.
- 8:01Yeah.
- 8:02I read a lot about being separate from the world and not loving the world, or its influences.
- 8:07I want to go back home worth one more step to our millennialism.
- 8:13So there are people that really believe with a massive, increasing and intensifying evil
- 8:19that's so evident in the world.
- 8:21They believe that Satan is bound.
- 8:24I don't understand that.
- 8:25Can you help me understand that a little bit?
- 8:30Yeah.
- 8:31Well, it's a double, I guess you'd say it's like a double-minded version of binding Satan
- 8:38because how do you explain that the world is just as evil as it was then?
- 8:46It's still that evil now.
- 8:47There's no difference.
- 8:49And yet they have a double mind because they want to give lip service to the scriptures
- 8:55that Satan is bound, and yet they're trying to give lip service to their doctrine that
- 9:00the kingdom has already come.
- 9:02And they know that Satan is being bound as part of the kingdom.
- 9:07So they're really struggling and they're really torn.
- 9:10As Chuck Bistler used to say, if Satan is bound right now, God needs to find a shorter chain.
- 9:16The difficulty that that's going to be faced is this world is insanely wicked.
- 9:22The devil is obviously running around like a roaring lion seeking to destroy and damage.
- 9:28You can't deny that.
- 9:29So whatever this binding is, it means almost nothing.
- 9:33So when you track down the most succinct statements from the most savvy theologians in the
- 9:39Amalennial camp, they always kind of beat around the bush and they end up saying stuff
- 9:46that basically boils down to, well, the devil can't keep us from getting saved.
- 9:50Well, that's good.
- 9:51I'm glad for that, but that's not binding the devil.
- 9:54Yeah.
- 9:55Amen, brother.
- 9:56So I know we're going to have to move kind of fast on these.
- 9:58Go ahead and share some of these other forces that you mentioned.
- 10:01Sure.
- 10:02Well, we're also facing the theory of preterism, which this says that most, if not all of the
- 10:10prophetic material in the Olivet Discourse, that's Matthew 24 and Luke 21.
- 10:16And most of the oral, the prophetic material in the book of Revelation was fulfilled in
- 10:218070 with the destruction of Jerusalem.
- 10:25And this is mind boggling to me, brother, because the second coming is the Lord crushing
- 10:33the armies of the world and delivering Israel, but yet in their version of this supposed
- 10:38fulfillment of the Lord's second coming, Israel is crushed.
- 10:43And the Roman world is the one that's delivered.
- 10:50Kind of confusing to me too, how people can go down these roads and back it up with
- 10:54scripture, but that's for another time.
- 10:57What about, I mean, one of the biggest problems I've seen recently growing unfortunately
- 11:01is replacement theology.
- 11:03Where does that fall on these forces coming against the pre-trib rapture?
- 11:07Well, basically, replacement theology is going to be one of the backbone issues for everything
- 11:14that comes against the full-fledged dispensationalism, whether it's all millennialism, post-millennialism,
- 11:19kingdom, dominion theology.
- 11:22They are really looking at the fact that the current church has replaced Israel.
- 11:28Now, oftentimes they'll say, we didn't replace Israel.
- 11:32All the churches just Israel, but Gentiles added and we've dropped the law.
- 11:36So it's modified slightly, but the fact of the matter is God made numerous promises
- 11:42to the people in nation of Israel, the physical descendants of Jacob, and he will literally
- 11:48fulfill those promises to the people in nation of Israel, the physical, literal DNA descendants
- 11:55of Jacob.
- 11:56And to me, if we're going to go down the path of replacement theology and think the church
- 12:02has replaced Israel, how can you trust this God?
- 12:06If he set Israel aside and broke his promises to them, how can we trust he won't break his
- 12:11promises to the church?
- 12:13Yeah, I think you have to redefine the word everlasting in terms of covenants, right?
- 12:18Well, it's not absolutely.
- 12:19But everlasting is something else that she's, anyway, Lee, unless you want to add another
- 12:25one of these bullet points, I think we better jump to what arguments do they use or how
- 12:31do they back some of these up?
- 12:34Well, this is one of the toughest parts because typically they don't really have strong
- 12:42exegetical arguments anywhere.
- 12:44They don't live and die like a dispensationalist by thus saying at the Lord, interpreted by
- 12:49thus saying at the Lord, they will start with a little passage like the passage on the
- 12:58true circumcision, for instance, or on the Israel of God in the Pauline writings, those
- 13:05kind of concepts.
- 13:06And they're going to jump on these phrases and they're going to say, see this is the church.
- 13:11But this is not a strong argument.
- 13:13How do you take one or two little proof texts like the true circumcision or Israel, the
- 13:20house of God, these kind of stuff in the New Testament, and then say that we're going
- 13:25to use these and overthrow all the Old Testament passages that talk about the nation and people
- 13:31of Israel in their glorious promises.
- 13:34It doesn't really work that way.
- 13:36So basically they don't really have strong exegetical arguments.
- 13:42It's philosophical presuppositions that start with replacement theology.
- 13:47Oh my goodness.
- 13:48It's so important, friends, to find if you're not at a Bible-believing church that teaches
- 13:54prophecy and the whole Council of God and sound doctor, you got to find one.
- 13:57I want to jump to who was Derby because I hear his name mentioned a lot.
- 14:02They use his name and it really divides a lot of people because maybe there's confusion
- 14:07or some lies about what he actually did.
- 14:10Go ahead, Lee.
- 14:12Yeah.
- 14:13I think Derby has become a convenient whipping post or a whipping boy.
- 14:17It's crazy.
- 14:18You know, they say, well, Derby invented the preacher of Rapture.
- 14:22No, no, he didn't.
- 14:23Oh, Derby got the preacher of Rapture from a demon possessed teenage girl.
- 14:29No, he didn't.
- 14:30Derby discovered the rapture while reading the scriptures convalescing after a horseback
- 14:36riding accident in 1827.
- 14:39So he was convinced of the preacher of Rapture by reading 2nd Thessalonians 2, 1 through
- 14:453 in the Greek and realizing this plainly teaches a preacher of Rapture.
- 14:50Now Margaret McDonald got a preacher of Rapture theory in 1830 and the problem was it's not
- 14:56even a preacher of Rapture theory.
- 14:58If you read Margaret McDonald wrote, in fact, if you read every prophetic statement in the
- 15:04entire Irvingite movement, they taught a pre-Rath Rapture.
- 15:08The church would go through three and a half years of tribulation under the Antichrist
- 15:12and then have a rapture shortly before a short window of Rath.
- 15:17It's very similar to the modern pre-Rath Rapture.
- 15:21So this whole idea that Derby invented the preacher of Rapture is really unsound.
- 15:26It's just a sound bite, it's not a knowledge of history.
- 15:30So who was Margaret McDonald again?
- 15:32Well she was a 16-year-old gal, Scottish gal, who was involved with the Irvingite movement
- 15:38in the 1820s and the 1830s.
- 15:41That was an early proto-Penocostum movement and they received revelations or supposed
- 15:47revelations and one of these revelations was the teaching of the rapture after three
- 15:52and a half years of tribulation.
- 15:55So Lee, how do you respond to some who might say, and this is one of the arguments that
- 16:00Bible prophecy distracts from our true mission about preaching the gospel, making disciples.
- 16:08How do you respond to that?
- 16:09Oh, I love answering this question because the fact of the matter is, a Bible prophecy
- 16:15actually is part of the gospel.
- 16:18It's part of the good news.
- 16:19It's part of the whole redemption package.
- 16:22Now if you just narrow down the gospel to the death-barrel resurrection of the Lord Jesus
- 16:26Christ, then of course prophecy is not going to be part of that.
- 16:30But if you take prophecy in the broader sense, if you take the gospel, the good news in
- 16:35the broader sense where we don't just get redemption paid for, we get redemption delivered.
- 16:42Well then now the resurrection, the second coming, our reward, our inheritance as sons
- 16:49of God and heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ Jesus, the expansion of the Dominion
- 16:55mandate from earth to the entire universe, this is a blessing going to be given to the
- 17:01church.
- 17:02And I don't understand why people are not excited about this.
- 17:05There's nothing that's more powerful against the church being influenced by worldliness
- 17:10than realizing that we have an absolute infinite reward coming and that the poorest saint in
- 17:17eternity is going to be wealthier than all the wealthiest men in the history of the world
- 17:21put together.
- 17:22You know, I just don't think through the years, especially in the American church that
- 17:26prophecy has been articulated properly or emphasized enough, I'm just thinking, okay,
- 17:32in layman's terms, let's make a prediction of who's going to win the Super Bowl.
- 17:37And let's do that, you know, for, you know, 50 years from now or 100 years.
- 17:41And you get it right.
- 17:42I mean, am I goodness, how can you not marvel at that?
- 17:44But there's fulfilled prophecies that are documented.
- 17:49And Jesus fulfilled hundreds and people don't look at that as something that's astonishing.
- 17:54I just kind of go, wow, what happened to us?
- 17:57You know what I mean?
- 17:58Yes.
- 17:59And it's also amazing that in the gospel presentations, in the gospels and the epistles
- 18:05and everywhere in the Bible, when God presents motives to man, He presents prophetic motives.
- 18:13The threat of hell, which is a prophetic issue and the promise of eternal life, which
- 18:17is a prophetic issue.
- 18:19And then the third most common motive is judgment coming upon the world, which is also
- 18:25a prophetic motive.
- 18:27And so prophecy is right at the core of the gospel message.
- 18:32Okay.
- 18:33Lee, we're running out of time as I knew we would.
- 18:35It's going to go by quick.
- 18:37Let's jump to how the Bible is full of commands and exhortations that will help people really
- 18:45get some more Bible verses to help understand this and back this up what we're talking about
- 18:50today.
- 18:51Yes.
- 18:52For instance, in Matthew 13, verses 35 and 36, in fact, I'll go to 37, watch there for
- 19:01you do not know when the master of the house is going to come, whether in the evening or
- 19:06at midnight or at the cock crowing or at the morning, less coming suddenly, he finds you sleeping.
- 19:13And what I say into all of you, I say watch.
- 19:16And so we have these watch exhortations throughout the gospels.
- 19:21We have Revelation 227 where it says, the spirit in the bride say, come, this is the heart
- 19:26cry of the Holy Spirit for the Lord Jesus to come.
- 19:30And this is the heart cry of the born again church in dwelt by the Holy Spirit.
- 19:34We want to see Jesus.
- 19:37But we also see in second Peter chapter 3 where part of our obligation is to look for
- 19:42and hasten the coming of the day of God.
- 19:45And people might say, well, what does it mean to hasten the coming of day of the Lord?
- 19:48Can we make it come faster?
- 19:50No, but what it does mean is it can't come fast enough.
- 19:55We also see in Matthew chapter 6, Romans chapter 8 and first Peter chapter 1 that we have
- 20:01a massive treasure laid up for us in heaven and inheritance, incorruptible, undefiled
- 20:07that will never fade away.
- 20:10And we read in Romans chapter 8, 18 that our present sufferings are not worthy to be compared
- 20:15to the glory that shall be revealed to us.
- 20:18Not merely in us is some translation, say, but to us because we not only get the inner
- 20:24resurrection glorification, we get to inherit the entire universe with Jesus Christ as
- 20:30co-heirs.
- 20:31So we have all this watching and looking for this treasure, looking for the reward, looking
- 20:38for the coming of the Lord, it's all over the New Testament.
- 20:41I don't see how anyone can read the New Testament and not be overwhelmed by these promises
- 20:48and these exhortations.
- 20:49So Lee, and I wish we could end right there because that is just encouraging, just the
- 20:54scriptures you shared, and you just scratch the surface, I know, and I appreciate that
- 21:00because you know how the time goes by.
- 21:02But do you think one of the reasons that maybe a lot of people don't want to focus more
- 21:07on prophecies?
- 21:09One of the things you mentioned is the threat of hell and the threat of judgment.
- 21:13Do you think that people want to shy away from that truth?
- 21:17Well, I think that's definitely part of it.
- 21:21People don't like God intruding on their life.
- 21:24They're happy living their life the way they are.
- 21:27And they'll just shove the Christian message aside, they'll shove the promise of eternal
- 21:32life aside, they just shove everything aside.
- 21:36But it actually goes a little bit deeper and broader than this because I've just discovered
- 21:41that even Christians are comfortable living in this world the way it is.
- 21:47They don't want the Jesus of the Bible coming down according to the prophecies of the Bible
- 21:52and bringing the second coming of the Bible and the day of the Lord of the Bible and
- 21:57absolutely destroying this present world.
- 21:59They don't want the world destroyed.
- 22:01They wouldn't mind political activism and religious activism cleaning the world up a little
- 22:06bit but they don't want the end of the world.
- 22:09This is really one of the problems we face in getting the prophetic message just spread
- 22:13through the church.
- 22:14It's not the message they want to hear.
- 22:16They're making the same mistake that the Pharisees made at the first coming.
- 22:20The Pharisees had preconceived ideas of how they wanted the Lord's coming to be and they
- 22:25were focused on the second coming prophecies and ignoring the first coming prophecies.
- 22:31Anything that didn't fit into the second coming, they just shoved it aside.
- 22:34Well, we face the opposite problem today.
- 22:38The Phariseic corners of the church are very focused on the first coming and they don't
- 22:43want the Lord's second coming.
- 22:45It's the same kind of problem.
- 22:47Yeah, that's fascinating because if we go back to some of the most studied and quote
- 22:54educated and religious leaders during Jesus' time, they weren't necessarily looking for
- 22:59that kind of Messiah.
- 23:01Were they?
- 23:02They were not looking for a Messiah that would die for the whole world.
- 23:06They were just looking for a Messiah that would come and shed sufficient Roman blood.
- 23:11Wow.
- 23:12Wow.
- 23:13See, that point is really interesting to me and how you drew that comparison to today that
- 23:20we aren't looking for.
- 23:22How did you say that again because I really liked the way you worded that?
- 23:27So a lot of people today, they're not looking for the second coming of the Lord which is
- 23:34going to bring in his promised kingdom.
- 23:37They're just looking at the first coming and they want their comfortable religion just
- 23:42to keep going on indefinitely.
- 23:44They want the comfortable world to keep going on indefinitely.
- 23:47They'd like to see it maybe cleaned up a little bit religiously politically but they don't
- 23:55want it to end.
- 23:56That's right.
- 23:57That's right.
- 23:58And the true believer sees this world for what it is which is a sewer of unbelief and
- 24:04when the Lord Jesus Christ comes, he's going to drain the swamp, take the trash out and
- 24:09turn the world upside down.
- 24:11I like in the notes you sent me.
- 24:13You said the first coming of Jesus paid for redemption, the second coming or the return
- 24:19of Jesus delivers redemption, that just those two contrasts are just so important.
- 24:27Three minutes left, whatever you want to share to continue to further drive home some
- 24:33of this and just encourage our audience.
- 24:36Yes.
- 24:37I would just like to encourage the believers out there.
- 24:39I know that some of you in the listening world probably don't really know much what to
- 24:44do with prophecy.
- 24:45You know your churches don't preach on it.
- 24:47Your pastor's not sure what to do with it.
- 24:49I just want to encourage you to be a simple Bible reading believer who takes the scriptures
- 24:56at face value, who would trust the plane statements of scripture with childlike faith
- 25:01and interprets the plane statements of scripture with other plane statements of scripture.
- 25:07And just embrace the second coming.
- 25:09If you don't get all the details figured out, if you never quite figure out the exact
- 25:14order of all the second coming stuff and where the rapture fits, relax.
- 25:20Just embrace the general message.
- 25:22The Lord Jesus is coming down from heaven.
- 25:25He's going to remove all the ungodliness from this planet.
- 25:29He's going to remove all the ungodly from the planet.
- 25:32He's going to establish a kingdom in righteousness down here and things are going to be good.
- 25:37If you just get this part right, you are on the right side of the fence.
- 25:43You are going to be where you need to be.
- 25:46And it's so hopeful too, I believe.
- 25:49But I want, if friends, if you want to dig a little bit deeper, I think if it was in
- 25:54the last podcast we did with you Lee or the one before that where we did on your book,
- 25:59the 10 potent proofs.
- 26:00And friends, go to worldviewmatters.tv, look up Lee, Brainerd.
- 26:06And that is what will come up after you get the search.
- 26:09Is that it?
- 26:10Yes.
- 26:11The key biblical proofs for the pre-trip rapture.
- 26:14So look at, look that one up because that will explain a little bit about what he talks
- 26:17about in the book to reinforce much of what he shared today and what we're talking about.
- 26:22Brother, I thank you so much for all you do.
- 26:24And friends, the website soothekeep.info, that's S-O-O-T-H-K-E-E-P, also on YouTube.
- 26:34And Lord willing, we will continue to do this, keep these conversations going Lee.
- 26:38Your voice is important.
- 26:39Thank you for all you do, brother.
- 26:40God bless you.
- 26:41And thank you, David.
- 26:44You're most welcome.
- 26:45Friends, we've got to continue to encourage our pastors if they are not teaching and preaching
- 26:52on Bible prophecy.
- 26:54There are different reasons.
- 26:55Sometimes fear, sometimes ignorance, they didn't go to the right seminary.
- 26:59I don't know.
- 27:00But we need to continue to lovingly and respectfully encourage them.
- 27:04And if they refuse to do so, I think you know what to do.
- 27:08But keep that prayerfully and always speak the truth and love.
- 27:11Friends, thank you so much for sharing the podcast.
- 27:13God bless you.
- 27:14And as always, keep speaking the truth about things that matter.
