- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back tonight. This is breaking as a Fox News alert.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Iran has now begun attacking U.S. forces tonight in Jordan.
- 0:08Speaker 1: And welcome to the final hour of the big weekend show.
- 0:10Speaker 2: A U.S.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Source is telling Fox News that there have been no
- 0:13Speaker 1: significant impacts so far and nearly all of the incoming
- 0:16Speaker 1: missiles were intercepted. This comes after U.S. forces struck Iranian
- 0:20Speaker 1: missile launchers. on La Rock Island earlier today. Joining us
- 0:24Speaker 1: now via phone is Fox News Chief Foreign Correspondent Trey Yinkst. Trey,
- 0:30Speaker 1: we'd love to know anything you can tell us about this.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Yeah, Joey, good evening. We're tracking the latest developments right
- 0:37Speaker 3: now in the Middle East. And as we speak, U.S.
- 0:40Speaker 3: forces in Jordan are under missile attack. The Iranians are
- 0:44Speaker 3: launching a variety of different missiles at U.S. bases there
- 0:48Speaker 3: in response to the U.S. strike's earlier today that targeted
- 0:52Speaker 3: Iran's Larak Island. Now, Larak Island is significant because of
- 0:56Speaker 3: its location in the Strait of Hormuz. And according to U.S. officials,
- 1:01Speaker 3: there was intelligence picked up that indicated the Iranians were
- 1:05Speaker 3: planning to launch rockets. with sea mines attached to basically
- 1:10Speaker 3: redeploy mines in the Strait of Hormuz after U.S. forces
- 1:13Speaker 3: were able to demine this area. And so a lot
- 1:16Speaker 3: of moving parts tonight, but again, the latest information that
- 1:18Speaker 3: we can confirm, U.S. forces at this moment are under
- 1:22Speaker 3: attack in Jordan, and there are efforts underway to shoot
- 1:25Speaker 3: down this incoming fire.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Trey, real quick, you said specifically missile attack. There is
- 1:30Speaker 1: no information of whether or not there are drones involved?
- 1:34Speaker 3: There may be drones, but... They oftentimes will use drones
- 1:37Speaker 3: and missiles at the same time to get around air
- 1:40Speaker 3: defense systems. At this moment, what we can confirm are
- 1:44Speaker 3: Iranian ballistic missiles that are targeting those U.S. forces in Jordan.
- 1:48Speaker 2: And, Trey, just to go off of, you know, how
- 1:50Speaker 2: we entered this segment, most have been intercepted. Most, if
- 1:54Speaker 2: not all, have been intercepted thus far. What is the
- 1:58Speaker 2: posture that the United States is taking? Was this maybe
- 2:01Speaker 2: somewhat expected, or did this catch them off guard?
- 2:06Speaker 3: We do know that the U.S. forces that are stationed
- 2:08Speaker 3: in Jordan have a variety of air defense systems to
- 2:10Speaker 3: help them to shoot down this type of incoming fire.
- 2:13Speaker 3: You have American-supplied Patriot and THAAD missile defense systems that
- 2:17Speaker 3: are deployed in this area. And I did speak with
- 2:20Speaker 3: a U.S. source familiar earlier this evening who indicated at
- 2:24Speaker 3: this point there are no significant impacts, and nearly all
- 2:27Speaker 3: of the incoming missiles have been intercepted. You remember earlier
- 2:31Speaker 3: this summer there were similar attacks against these bases in Jordan,
- 2:35Speaker 3: and U.S. forces were killed. And so these are serious attacks.
- 2:38Speaker 3: They're taken not lightly at all by U.S. Central Command
- 2:42Speaker 3: that is working to shoot down this incoming fire. And previously,
- 2:46Speaker 3: I even spoke with President Trump about this, and he
- 2:48Speaker 3: said it was amazing to watch in real time how
- 2:50Speaker 3: quickly these American soldiers are responding and how successful they
- 2:54Speaker 3: can be at shooting down this incoming fire. A lot
- 2:57Speaker 3: of the responsibility has shifted back to U.S. forces. They're
- 3:00Speaker 3: not relying on allies in the region when possible because
- 3:04Speaker 3: they trust the soldiers on the ground who are manning
- 3:07Speaker 3: these air defense systems and their ability to shoot down
- 3:10Speaker 3: these incoming missiles.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Trey, it's David. Just for clarity, the majority of these intercepts,
- 3:17Speaker 4: are they happening over Iraqi skies as they get closer
- 3:22Speaker 4: to Jordan? Just to get an idea, because in order
- 3:24Speaker 4: to get to Jordan, they have to go over Iraqi airspace.
- 3:29Speaker 3: In the past, they have tried to shoot down this
- 3:31Speaker 3: incoming fire earlier when possible. Tonight, it appears many of
- 3:35Speaker 3: the missiles are actually being shot down over Jordanian airspace.
- 3:39Speaker 3: And it's an indication that the Iranians still have some
- 3:41Speaker 3: missiles in their arsenal that are medium to long range
- 3:44Speaker 3: ballistic missiles. And again, this isn't the first time that
- 3:47Speaker 3: these U.S. forces have come under fire. And so this
- 3:50Speaker 3: question of preparedness, they were certainly ready for this possibility,
- 3:54Speaker 3: especially given the fact that internally it was already known
- 3:58Speaker 3: for hours that there could be some sort of Iranian
- 4:00Speaker 3: response following the U.S. strikes against Larrak Island earlier today.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Trey, Molly here. I think you touched on sort of
- 4:07Speaker 2: the question that I was going to ask in this
- 4:09Speaker 2: recent success of demining the strait and also the continued
- 4:13Speaker 2: strikes that the U.S. has been making. They've talked about
- 4:16Speaker 2: degrading the military capabilities there, so much so that they've
- 4:19Speaker 2: shifted a little bit in their public posture, the United States,
- 4:23Speaker 2: to talking a great deal about sanctions. Do you think
- 4:26Speaker 2: we'll see a significant response from the United States now
- 4:30Speaker 2: that we're seeing this ongoing attack in Jordan?
- 4:33Speaker 3: It's certainly possible because in the past, the president has
- 4:37Speaker 3: wanted to send a counter message of deterrence to the
- 4:39Speaker 3: Iranians when they launch missiles at U.S. forces anywhere in
- 4:42Speaker 3: the Middle East. And remember, at this moment, as we speak,
- 4:45Speaker 3: there are 50,000 U.S. soldiers deployed across the Middle East.
- 4:48Speaker 3: There's a new U.S. aircraft carrier that just arrived in theater,
- 4:51Speaker 3: the USS George Washington. And there are destroyers and fighter
- 4:54Speaker 3: jets all over the region prepared for the military possibility
- 4:59Speaker 3: of But at this moment, the focus for the Trump
- 5:02Speaker 3: administration remains on putting as much economic pressure on the
- 5:05Speaker 3: Iranian regime as possible. Interestingly, this weekend, we actually heard
- 5:09Speaker 3: for the first time Iranian President Massoud Pazeskian and even
- 5:13Speaker 3: the country's supreme leader through state media and statements, Bush Tabakhamani,
- 5:17Speaker 3: coming out and talking about this economic pressure. And even
- 5:21Speaker 3: the country's president said... He doesn't know what to say
- 5:24Speaker 3: to people who claim that sanctions have no effect. And
- 5:27Speaker 3: those were the words from Iranian President Mossad possess game.
- 5:30Speaker 3: And it's an indication that the Iranians are starting to
- 5:33Speaker 3: feel this economic pressure and the new sanctions that were
- 5:36Speaker 3: announced last week by the U.S. Treasury.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Trey, I know that we have kind of an order
- 5:40Speaker 1: of battle when it comes to targets. The Pentagon knows
- 5:43Speaker 1: that they're not necessarily sharing it. But, you know, you're
- 5:46Speaker 1: closer to this. You talk to folks. Do we view
- 5:49Speaker 1: this as an escalation, a tit for tat? Maybe it's
- 5:52Speaker 1: hard to tell, but we introduced this topic as we
- 5:56Speaker 1: hit Crock Island. Now Ron's sending missiles towards Jordan. What
- 6:01Speaker 1: does your instinct tell you the next step is, or
- 6:04Speaker 1: can we even surmise that right now?
- 6:07Speaker 3: At this moment, this will likely be contained to a
- 6:10Speaker 3: back and forth for a day or two, but it
- 6:12Speaker 3: may not be the last time that this happens. Analysts
- 6:15Speaker 3: who have talked about what is taking place in the
- 6:17Speaker 3: region right now have warned about the possibility that Iran
- 6:20Speaker 3: may try to escalate, because what they say often in
- 6:23Speaker 3: state media and the reality on the ground don't match.
- 6:26Speaker 3: And that is part of the pressure that they are
- 6:29Speaker 3: facing domestically. They have a domestic audience that they continue
- 6:33Speaker 3: to say to the Strait of Hormuz is closed. And
- 6:36Speaker 3: then the United States is carrying out this operation through
- 6:39Speaker 3: a southern passage and actually getting millions of barrels of
- 6:42Speaker 3: crude oil from the Gulf exported each day. And so
- 6:45Speaker 3: it undercuts Iranian efforts and these public statements that they're making.
- 6:49Speaker 3: That coupled with the economic pressure through sanctions, the ongoing U.S.
- 6:53Speaker 3: naval blockade that is blocking Iranian ports from the Persian
- 6:56Speaker 3: Gulf and their ability to export crude oil. it all
- 7:00Speaker 3: adds up to a broader picture of the pressure being
- 7:03Speaker 3: put on the Iranian regime right now. And so this
- 7:05Speaker 3: likely will not be the last time that we see
- 7:08Speaker 3: provocative action by the Iranians. But again, tonight, it's important
- 7:11Speaker 3: to remember, according to U.S. officials speaking to Fox News,
- 7:14Speaker 3: this all began when the Iranians were preparing to launch
- 7:17Speaker 3: rockets that would be used to remine the Strait of Hormuz,
- 7:21Speaker 3: an area of a critical international waterway that was demined
- 7:25Speaker 3: by U.S. forces over the past several weeks.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and just knowing that that was their strategy tells
- 7:30Speaker 1: you they don't have the assets and capabilities they had
- 7:34Speaker 1: at the beginning of this war if that's how they
- 7:36Speaker 1: were going to do it. Trey Yinks, thank you so
- 7:38Speaker 1: much for joining us. You always just have so much
- 7:40Speaker 1: to share on this. I'm not even sure where you
- 7:44Speaker 1: are right now, but wherever it is, I hope it's safe,
- 7:46Speaker 1: and we look forward to hearing more from you, and
- 7:48Speaker 1: we look forward to seeing this war end. Thank you, Trey.
