- 0:17Speaker 2: Labour wants to scrape National's Investment Boost scheme and replace
- 0:20Speaker 2: it with a one point five to six billion dollar package.
- 0:23Speaker 2: It includes requiring big companies to pay small companies invoices
- 0:27Speaker 2: within fifteen days, lifting the GST threshold to eighty k
- 0:31Speaker 2: and increasing the instant asset right off to ten k.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Leanne Watson is Business Canterbury CEO with me this Morningly
- 0:37Speaker 2: and good morning.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Good morning Ryan.
- 0:39Speaker 2: So which is the better program? Which is the better policy?
- 0:41Speaker 2: Do you think?
- 0:44Speaker 3: Look? I think the first thing to acknowledge is that
- 0:46Speaker 3: you know, given small businesses make up ninety seven percent
- 0:49Speaker 3: of businesses across New Zealand, it's great to see the
- 0:52Speaker 3: political parties outlining how they do intend to support those
- 0:55Speaker 3: small businesses. So and look, these policies are a good
- 0:58Speaker 3: starting point because we know some of the pain points
- 1:01Speaker 3: continue to be around cash flowing compliance and of course
- 1:04Speaker 3: that does have an edibility for those small businesses to
- 1:07Speaker 3: invest in us. So these policies will certainly make it
- 1:10Speaker 3: easier to sort of grow and innovate and drive productivity,
- 1:12Speaker 3: which is a great starting point totally.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I think it's great that there is a focus. But
- 1:16Speaker 2: one's worth about six billion, one's worth one point five.
- 1:19Speaker 2: So the benet the overall then benefit to business as
- 1:22Speaker 2: a whole is way better off under National But is
- 1:26Speaker 2: labors smarter because it's targeting those smaller businesses, there are
- 1:29Speaker 2: more of them and it's simpler.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Yeah, Look, I think you know that there's certainly some
- 1:35Speaker 3: of the policies that have been outlined are good. One
- 1:40Speaker 3: of the things that I do really want to reinforce
- 1:42Speaker 3: investment booths has been highly effective. That's been an effective
- 1:46Speaker 3: driver of business investment, productivity and growth, and removing it
- 1:50Speaker 3: I think would significantly weaken the overall package. You know.
- 1:54Speaker 3: But on that on the other side.
- 1:56Speaker 2: You've got to be the thing is you can't have both,
- 1:58Speaker 2: can you You know?
- 1:59Speaker 3: Well you can absolutely, I mean you can have both.
- 2:03Speaker 3: You know, there's definitely ways that we can have both.
- 2:06Speaker 3: And I visit a manufacturer of the other day and
- 2:09Speaker 3: they outlined three new pieces of equipment, all of which
- 2:12Speaker 3: had been brought under the Invescent Boost scheme. So you know,
- 2:15Speaker 3: this does provide confidence for businesses to actually do that
- 2:18Speaker 3: and I think you can have both. I think it's
- 2:19Speaker 3: an end conversation on the ore.
- 2:21Speaker 2: All Right, Lee and Watson Business, Canterbury CEO.
