- 3:10Speaker 7: You don't worry?
- 3:11Speaker 4: Okay? All right? So hey you been man, good good.
- 3:14Speaker 6: You know things are getting really busy, uh CMC Foundation.
- 3:17Speaker 7: It's our big time of the year.
- 3:20Speaker 6: The Foundation, in fact is proud to be a partner
- 3:22Speaker 6: with c AMC, the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau, and
- 3:25Speaker 6: USA Cycling for the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships
- 3:29Speaker 6: that are in town this week.
- 3:30Speaker 4: And you've been down there. I heard you talking about
- 3:32Speaker 4: that earlier. You've actually been a part of that.
- 3:34Speaker 6: Like this is a volunteer, Yeah, it's been some time Monday,
- 3:36Speaker 6: Tuesday and Wednesday as a volunteer and having been there
- 3:40Speaker 6: in the in the heart of things. I have to
- 3:41Speaker 6: give a shout out to the c AMC medical team
- 3:43Speaker 6: that's there as the official medical provider of USA Cycling,
- 3:46Speaker 6: in addition to a shout out to Mayor Goodwin and
- 3:49Speaker 6: the Convention and Visitor Bureau team, Tim Brady and his crew,
- 3:53Speaker 6: and as well as the you know, the street department,
- 3:55Speaker 6: the fire department, the police officers that are out there.
- 3:58Speaker 6: Those folks are putting in long hours in the sun,
- 4:01Speaker 6: the rain, whatever the conditions are. It's certainly an all
- 4:05Speaker 6: hands on deck approach and it's I think it shows
- 4:09Speaker 6: well for the city.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Well, and you know, there's so much going on. Of course,
- 4:13Speaker 4: we got the high school graduations that are underway. I
- 4:17Speaker 4: was in Valley Park and Hurricane last night for the
- 4:19Speaker 4: Run for the Wall event, which they're leaving Hurricane. They
- 4:22Speaker 4: were due to leave around eight thirty or so this morning.
- 4:24Speaker 4: Then they're going to the Capitol and then going to
- 4:25Speaker 4: Greenbrier County after that before they end up at the
- 4:28Speaker 4: in the nation's capital for Memorial Day. So you got
- 4:30Speaker 4: that going on. Live on the Levee begins to mind
- 4:33Speaker 4: at Jim Strawn or Live on the Levee guy is
- 4:36Speaker 4: going to join us in studio to talk about that.
- 4:37Speaker 4: So there's a whole lot of stuff going on here
- 4:39Speaker 4: in Charleston, man, But you're adding to it, not necessarily today,
- 4:42Speaker 4: but you've got stuff going on too. Yeah, let's just
- 4:45Speaker 4: add to it.
- 4:45Speaker 6: So c AMC Foundation we are doing for the first
- 4:50Speaker 6: time an event, a fundraising event in conjunction with USA
- 4:55Speaker 6: Cycling Miles for Mines is what we are calling the event.
- 4:59Speaker 6: It's a family for only fundraiser that's going to benefit
- 5:01Speaker 6: CAMC Neurosciences. It's going to take place Saturday, May twenty fourth.
- 5:06Speaker 6: Registration will be in at four point thirty. We will
- 5:09Speaker 6: start at approximately five o'clock PM. Registration is going to
- 5:12Speaker 6: happen in the first floor of the City of Charleston
- 5:15Speaker 6: Parking Garage, which is adjacent to City Hall. So we're
- 5:20Speaker 6: encouraging folks to pedal for a purpose ride like the pros.
- 5:22Speaker 6: This is an opportunity to get on the course yourself
- 5:26Speaker 6: as a non sanctioned athlete and I use the term
- 5:30Speaker 6: athlete loosely if I'm referencing myself for you, Dave, but
- 5:34Speaker 6: an opportunity to take on the course see the perspective
- 5:37Speaker 6: that the riders have seen through downtown Charleston. The course
- 5:40Speaker 6: will start in front of the four point Sheraton, right
- 5:43Speaker 6: under the start and finish line arch that USA Cycling
- 5:47Speaker 6: is set up. It'll go down to Greenborough Street and
- 5:51Speaker 6: Canola Boulevard intersection, do a U turn, come back hit
- 5:54Speaker 6: Brook Street and run the course through downtown and you'll
- 5:57Speaker 6: finish under the arch again where you started in front
- 5:59Speaker 6: of the war points. So we're working with the CVB
- 6:04Speaker 6: and USA Cycling have been able to offer folks who
- 6:07Speaker 6: may not get an opportunity to be on the course
- 6:09Speaker 6: because if you're a court martial, you know, people should
- 6:12Speaker 6: not be walking on the course, they should not be
- 6:14Speaker 6: driving on the course. But here is your opportunity. You're
- 6:17Speaker 6: a court martial, I've been a court a course martial.
- 6:20Speaker 6: Court martial, not court martial. You say, yeah, you said
- 6:23Speaker 6: that with authority, Robert. That's why I'm saying that.
- 6:26Speaker 7: Sure, thank you, David.
- 6:28Speaker 8: So.
- 6:29Speaker 4: But you're not supposed to be on the course, is
- 6:30Speaker 4: what you're saying.
- 6:30Speaker 6: Right, Yeah, you know, folks, they've asked during the active
- 6:33Speaker 6: race times that folks not walk on the course, drive
- 6:36Speaker 6: on the course. But this is an opportunity to take
- 6:37Speaker 6: in the course in a safe way. You can ride.
- 6:41Speaker 6: It's a four mile ride. We're encouraging families to come out.
- 6:45Speaker 6: We've registration is twenty dollars a person, or we're doing
- 6:49Speaker 6: a friendly four pack for seventy five dollars which will
- 6:53Speaker 6: give you four entries, so a little bit of a
- 6:55Speaker 6: discount for that. Folks can register online at our website.
- 6:59Speaker 6: CAMC found undation dot org, slash Bike, or they can
- 7:02Speaker 6: register the day of at the event.
- 7:05Speaker 4: So what is the I mean, what's the timeline with
- 7:08Speaker 4: the other events you know that are going to be
- 7:10Speaker 4: because I mean, obviously you're not going to have them
- 7:12Speaker 4: out there with the pros.
- 7:13Speaker 6: So they won't be with the pros. The the course
- 7:16Speaker 6: will still be closed, but the riders out there will
- 7:20Speaker 6: be just part of Miles for Mines at that time.
- 7:23Speaker 6: The races for Saturday will have concluded. Miles for Mines
- 7:28Speaker 6: will begin as soon as the last race is over
- 7:31Speaker 6: for that day, so we're estimating that will be about
- 7:34Speaker 6: five o'clock PM. We understand it won't be earlier than five,
- 7:38Speaker 6: So you know, we just asked for folks who are
- 7:40Speaker 6: participating to give us a little bit of patience when
- 7:42Speaker 6: it comes to the start time because we're waiting on
- 7:44Speaker 6: the last riders to come through. But we're pretty confident
- 7:48Speaker 6: at about a five o'clock start.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Talked again with Robbie Queen from the CAMC Foundation at
- 7:52Speaker 4: Dave Vlan Show on five. Any Live is brought to
- 7:54Speaker 4: you partly by Husband's Pizza. This month, get a large
- 7:57Speaker 4: at and inch pepperoni pizza and and order sennment if
- 8:00Speaker 4: it's twenty ninety nine eight m pick up or getting
- 8:02Speaker 4: delivery by going to Husband's Pizza dot com. Let me
- 8:06Speaker 4: see what this text here. I think I had a
- 8:08Speaker 4: text for you. Okay, yeah, this is actually this is
- 8:10Speaker 4: not for you. The ride just came through Charleston about
- 8:13Speaker 4: ten minutes ago. According to Steve anam not your ride,
- 8:15Speaker 4: the Ride for the Wall. Get to know the rides
- 8:17Speaker 4: going on, right, The Ride.
- 8:18Speaker 6: For the Wall is always a remarkable event that happens
- 8:20Speaker 6: here in town, and it's such a worthy.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Yeah, but they just came according to Steve Animal, they
- 8:23Speaker 4: just came through Charleston about ten minutes ago. Right, it's
- 8:26Speaker 4: good south. They headed down to Greenberg County.
- 8:27Speaker 9: All right.
- 8:28Speaker 4: So for people that may not know what, you've been
- 8:31Speaker 4: on the show numerous times. What exactly is the CAMC
- 8:33Speaker 4: Foundation who we're raising money for here? Short.
- 8:35Speaker 6: CMC Foundation is the nonprofit foundation of the CAMC Health System.
- 8:40Speaker 6: We are the avenue for which philanthropic dollars flow through
- 8:44Speaker 6: the health system. We are in our forty ninth year.
- 8:47Speaker 6: Twenty twenty six will be our fiftieth anniversary. So this
- 8:50Speaker 6: foundation is well established in the community, well respected in
- 8:54Speaker 6: the community and serves the CAMC Health system, both the
- 8:59Speaker 6: patients that receive care there, we support our employees, and
- 9:05Speaker 6: we also support the learners that come through CAMC.
- 9:08Speaker 7: C AMC provides more.
- 9:12Speaker 6: Continuing medical education in the state than anyone else, so
- 9:16Speaker 6: we have a lot of learners that come through our
- 9:18Speaker 6: door doors and that's something that the Foundation is proud
- 9:22Speaker 6: to support. The CMC Women and Children's Hospital is one
- 9:27Speaker 6: of our primary items that we support with a host
- 9:31Speaker 6: of services there. This particular event, Miles for Minds, is
- 9:35Speaker 6: going to support c AMC neurosciences. We're CAMC Foundation is
- 9:39Speaker 6: taking a larger approach in the support of neurosciences for CAMC.
- 9:45Speaker 6: I think there are going to be some future developments
- 9:47Speaker 6: with that happening here in downtown that are going to
- 9:50Speaker 6: be noticeable. So this is a small start at adding
- 9:54Speaker 6: to the support for that. And you know, the event
- 9:56Speaker 6: is a great way for people to get engaged in
- 10:00Speaker 6: this fun and exciting event happening in downtown Charleston in
- 10:03Speaker 6: a safe manner. We're asking the participants bring their own
- 10:06Speaker 6: bicycles and helmets. We will not be providing those.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Our helmets required.
- 10:11Speaker 6: Helmet helmets are required to partake of the course. You know,
- 10:15Speaker 6: we want them to be just as safe as the
- 10:17Speaker 6: Professional Athlete Center out there. And you know this has
- 10:21Speaker 6: been is a good way to take on the course,
- 10:23Speaker 6: do it in a safe way and also give back
- 10:25Speaker 6: to the community and c AMC.
- 10:28Speaker 4: All right again, give us more information on the event
- 10:31Speaker 4: to this all happens Saturday.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Sure, everything's happening Saturday, May twenty fourth. Registration will begin
- 10:36Speaker 6: at four thirty pm. The start will begin at approximately
- 10:39Speaker 6: five o'clock pm. Registration will take place in the first
- 10:42Speaker 6: floor of the City of Charleston Parking Garage next to
- 10:44Speaker 6: City Hall. Five o three Virginia Street East is the address.
- 10:49Speaker 6: Registration is twenty dollars per person or a four pack
- 10:52Speaker 6: for seventy five dollars. You can register on our website
- 10:55Speaker 6: CAMC foundation dot org, slash bike, or you can register
- 10:58Speaker 6: a day of at the site.
- 11:00Speaker 4: I mean, I think this is pretty cool too, because
- 11:02Speaker 4: as you said at the outset, Robbie, you're gonna be able.
- 11:04Speaker 4: This is for families or whomever. You're gonna be able
- 11:06Speaker 4: to ride that actual course and those of us that
- 11:08Speaker 4: are working in downtown Charleston you drive it, you know,
- 11:10Speaker 4: five six days a week, or if you live here
- 11:12Speaker 4: seven days a week and you never think about what
- 11:14Speaker 4: it would be like to ride a bike down through
- 11:17Speaker 4: You think about driving or even walking, but you don't think.
- 11:19Speaker 4: And then when you watch and I said this on
- 11:22Speaker 4: the show before, the thing that amazes me about these
- 11:26Speaker 4: bikers is the sheer speed that they have. I mean
- 11:32Speaker 4: it's I mean it will knock you down almost on
- 11:34Speaker 4: the sidewalk. The speed is incredible.
- 11:36Speaker 6: They are incredible, and especially when you watch the speed
- 11:39Speaker 6: as they come off Louden Heights as they're coming down
- 11:42Speaker 6: back onto the south Side Bridge on what I call
- 11:44Speaker 6: the long course. These are true athletes. And you know,
- 11:48Speaker 6: I think we saw last year with the medaling of
- 11:51Speaker 6: Kristin Faulkner here in Charleston who went on to medal
- 11:53Speaker 6: in the Olympics in Paris. This event will go understand,
- 11:57Speaker 6: Charleston has it through twenty twenty eight, so we'll see
- 12:01Speaker 6: another potential Olympic medalist here in a few years, right
- 12:03Speaker 6: out of Charleston, West Virginia. And c AMC is happy
- 12:06Speaker 6: to have a part in it.
- 12:07Speaker 4: And again this is an opportunity for individuals, families, whatever
- 12:10Speaker 4: to come down here and ride the exact same course
- 12:14Speaker 4: that that the folks at the Pro Road event are doing.
- 12:17Speaker 6: Absolutely and who knows, we might have another Olympic Golden
- 12:20Speaker 6: medalist on our hands one day, maybe a four year
- 12:22Speaker 6: olds out riding his or her bike, and we'll see
- 12:25Speaker 6: them on.
- 12:25Speaker 7: The big stage.
- 12:26Speaker 4: It will not be you though, It will not be me,
- 12:27Speaker 4: and it won't be you either. I'm sure I'm a
- 12:30Speaker 4: little bit little bit past that. All right, Robbie Queen
- 12:33Speaker 4: say c amc Foundation. I appreciate you being here man,

- 15:14Speaker 4: the show, going to talk to him about several things,

- 15:20Speaker 4: of investors are taking over Phaseias. So I'm going to
- 15:22Speaker 4: talk to Doug about that coming up. A little bit later,
- 15:25Speaker 4: I had a text here says, can someone tell me
- 15:27Speaker 4: where the Run for the Wall is currently? I watched
- 15:29Speaker 4: them on the West Virginia five one one cameras. As
- 15:32Speaker 4: I said earlier, Steve Animal sent me a text and
- 15:35Speaker 4: said that as of he sent me the text about
- 15:38Speaker 4: nine to fourteen. He says, as of about ten minutes
- 15:41Speaker 4: ago they had they were in Charleston, and again they
- 15:43Speaker 4: were going to the capitol. If somebody's out there on

- 16:08Speaker 4: the air. Of them coming to Charleston. He sent it
- 16:10Speaker 4: at nine fourteen, said it was about ten minutes ago,
- 16:14Speaker 4: so that would have been carried the three Noble It
- 16:17Speaker 4: would have been nine o four right something.
- 16:19Speaker 7: Uh, yeah, we can't time travel, right, so we can't
- 16:23Speaker 7: go backward.
- 16:23Speaker 4: Tell you, I don't math, I don't math, I don't math. Matt,
- 16:29Speaker 4: but Matt Sutton, the chief is staff of a good
- 16:31Speaker 4: one administration in studio. How you doing, buddy, going good bye?
- 16:33Speaker 4: How you doing?
- 16:34Speaker 5: Oh?
- 16:34Speaker 4: You know, just uh, just doing what we do here.
- 16:36Speaker 4: And so mister queen there for the CAMC Foundation. Now
- 16:39Speaker 4: adding more to the bike event.
- 16:41Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean I think it was that. I think
- 16:42Speaker 13: we talked about this maybe the first day we were
- 16:44Speaker 13: here in last year. We were really focused on the
- 16:47Speaker 13: logistics of it, as we should have been, right it
- 16:48Speaker 13: was our first year, it was USA Cycling's first year
- 16:50Speaker 13: in Charleston, so there was so much focus on the
- 16:52Speaker 13: logistics of it.
- 16:53Speaker 7: And once we got and got that down, then we
- 16:55Speaker 7: were able to add some events.
- 16:56Speaker 13: So adding the fun ride is really excited and I
- 17:00Speaker 13: think I saw several people on social media posting about
- 17:03Speaker 13: doing it, had several folks text me as well, just
- 17:06Speaker 13: about what it was what they could do.
- 17:07Speaker 4: And you nailed it. You get to ride the course.
- 17:10Speaker 7: I mean that's clean.
- 17:11Speaker 4: What other thing I mean if you're into this sort
- 17:13Speaker 4: of thing, and many people are, I mean, you don't
- 17:16Speaker 4: always get to play flag football, you know at wherever
- 17:21Speaker 4: the Super Bowl is being held. You don't you don't
- 17:23Speaker 4: get to go to throw out the first pitch at
- 17:25Speaker 4: Yankee Stadium or you know, this is kind of like that.
- 17:29Speaker 4: You know ndy five hundred, are we coming up here?
- 17:31Speaker 4: You know, real soon? And you don't get to drive
- 17:33Speaker 4: the track, but you actually get to do this.
- 17:35Speaker 13: Yeah, And I think that's what's really cool about what
- 17:37Speaker 13: they were able to pull together. And c AMC has
- 17:39Speaker 13: been a tremendous partner last year, this year into the future,
- 17:43Speaker 13: not only with bicycling but or the bicycle race, but
- 17:45Speaker 13: with everything in Charleston, but particularly.
- 17:47Speaker 7: The bike race.
- 17:48Speaker 13: So their idea with this it really is fun. I
- 17:51Speaker 13: mean I equate it to exactly what you just said, right.
- 17:53Speaker 13: It's when you get to see some of the you know,
- 17:55Speaker 13: the Little League teams they go out and they play
- 17:57Speaker 13: at Gomar Park, right, I mean, you see what the
- 17:59Speaker 13: kids get excited about playing on that and that's it's
- 18:01Speaker 13: very similar to that, and it is going to be
- 18:04Speaker 13: something you know, we see it as you know, a
- 18:06Speaker 13: road we drive on every day, but to a kid
- 18:09Speaker 13: with all of the with all the railings put up,
- 18:12Speaker 13: and having just watched the best athletes in the world
- 18:14Speaker 13: participate and ride on that course, for you to get
- 18:17Speaker 13: to do it, it's really cool. I mean I would,
- 18:19Speaker 13: I would love to. I don't want to embarrass or
- 18:21Speaker 13: hurt myself, so I'll probably go out there and walk around.
- 18:23Speaker 7: But it's just it's just a.
- 18:25Speaker 13: Really neat thing and really great idea and another way
- 18:27Speaker 13: when in which we get to get the community involved
- 18:29Speaker 13: in cycling race and that's what's the biggest part about it.
- 18:32Speaker 13: The more people we can build. You know, last year
- 18:35Speaker 13: we said it and I think it's very true this year.
- 18:37Speaker 13: You know, we have We've always had a good bicycling
- 18:40Speaker 13: community in Charleston, but we've only seen that grow over
- 18:42Speaker 13: the last year and I think that's just only going
- 18:44Speaker 13: to continue to do. You know, the Regatta, Charleston Sturnol Regatta,
- 18:48Speaker 13: part of their charity that they do or giving away bikes.
- 18:52Speaker 7: I think they're giving away a hundred.
- 18:53Speaker 13: Bikes on Saturday as well, that people can can get
- 18:56Speaker 13: and if you go to the regatta Facebook page you
- 18:58Speaker 13: can learn more about that. But one hundred bikes in
- 19:01Speaker 13: our community for kids, I mean stuff like that that
- 19:03Speaker 13: we're just going. I know, the USA Cycling is given
- 19:06Speaker 13: away a bike raffle as well. It's just I mean,
- 19:08Speaker 13: it's really good that this event can last longer than
- 19:11Speaker 13: just the ten days it's in town.
- 19:13Speaker 4: Matt Sutton, the chief of staff for the Mayor's Office
- 19:15Speaker 4: and studio with us this morning to Dave Allen Chow
- 19:17Speaker 4: and five aniline broad to you apartment snap Fitness with
- 19:19Speaker 4: a wide selection of equipment including free weights, cardio machine,
- 19:22Speaker 4: weights and more. Five great locations Charleston, Hurricane, Winfield, Barbersville,
- 19:26Speaker 4: and Milton business Snap fitness dot com for more details.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Right here we are in day four. How's it gone
- 19:31Speaker 4: so far?
- 19:32Speaker 7: Really well? I mean really well.
- 19:33Speaker 13: I mean the last few days we've got some we
- 19:35Speaker 13: had some rain mixed in, but you know, I shure
- 19:37Speaker 13: it's harder on the cyclist, but it actually adds a
- 19:39Speaker 13: little bit of excitement when you watch these folks go
- 19:42Speaker 13: as fast as they are in the rain. But I
- 19:44Speaker 13: think that I think I heard you say it right
- 19:46Speaker 13: before I got on the rail of the today, tomorrow
- 19:48Speaker 13: and into the weekend.
- 19:49Speaker 7: That's what we've that's what we've been waiting for since
- 19:51Speaker 7: last year.
- 19:51Speaker 13: We had the time trials, and there are very fun
- 19:53Speaker 13: to watch that they're not quite the level of excitement
- 19:56Speaker 13: is the Criterion Race, which starts tonight and tomorrow and
- 20:00Speaker 13: then the road races. So I think tonight, you know,
- 20:03Speaker 13: we'll get a little bit of rain out of the
- 20:04Speaker 13: way here today early and then make good for this
- 20:06Speaker 13: evening and tomorrow's is going to be gorgeous. So, but
- 20:09Speaker 13: the biggest thing you know, to think about if you're
- 20:11Speaker 13: if you are working in downtown Charleston, the streets are
- 20:15Speaker 13: open all day.
- 20:16Speaker 4: Okay, hold on, okay, listen very carefully. Listen very carefully, folks.
- 20:20Speaker 4: This is the important part, as we say in the
- 20:22Speaker 4: business roll tape on this even though nobody rolls tape anymore.
- 20:25Speaker 4: Uh So listen very closely to what mister Sutton is
- 20:27Speaker 4: going to say.
- 20:28Speaker 13: Now, yes, okay, so uh the other than the boulevard
- 20:33Speaker 13: which has been closed all week, the roads in downtown
- 20:35Speaker 13: Charleston are open all day to day until right around
- 20:37Speaker 13: five pm. And at five pm is when we start
- 20:40Speaker 13: to set up for the Criterion Race and that that
- 20:43Speaker 13: you know race essentially think from Court Street to Hall Street,
- 20:46Speaker 13: from the boulevard to Lee Street. That box that's there
- 20:49Speaker 13: is going to be shut off. You're not going to
- 20:52Speaker 13: be able to have vehiclear traffic after five pm. So
- 20:55Speaker 13: if you need to get out of town, you can
- 20:57Speaker 13: get out of town out on the outskirts of that.
- 20:59Speaker 13: But if you've got to dry through that area, or
- 21:00Speaker 13: if you're located inside that footprint, you're going to need
- 21:03Speaker 13: to get out before five pm today, and that is
- 21:07Speaker 13: that is the key. And then after that that area
- 21:09Speaker 13: again from Court to Hale, the boulevard to Lee Street,
- 21:13Speaker 13: that box is going to be is going to be
- 21:16Speaker 13: pretty shut down. You can get onto Capitol Street and
- 21:19Speaker 13: use the Summer Street garage, go on the opposite way
- 21:21Speaker 13: on Capitol Street. Go to our City of Charleston's Facebook
- 21:23Speaker 13: page to see it. But the key to it is
- 21:26Speaker 13: if you're inside that that footprint, getting Court to Hale,
- 21:29Speaker 13: the Boulevard to Lee by five pm. If your car's
- 21:32Speaker 13: in there, it's going to stay in there for the
- 21:35Speaker 13: very It's very likely it's going to stay in there,
- 21:37Speaker 13: So I suggest get out early and if you could
- 21:40Speaker 13: take and at your lunchtime and maybe park on the
- 21:42Speaker 13: periphery of that zone or something along those lines, if
- 21:44Speaker 13: you're going to be later, that would be ideal. That's
- 21:46Speaker 13: what I end up doing. It's what I did last year,
- 21:48Speaker 13: is what I'll do this year. I'll just kind of
- 21:49Speaker 13: get my car out, put it on the put it
- 21:51Speaker 13: on the edges, just in case I need to get out,
- 21:54Speaker 13: because that we we just if you've seen the Criterion
- 21:57Speaker 13: race do downtown, you know the road races, we have
- 22:00Speaker 13: some space between areas right where we can let cars through.
- 22:03Speaker 13: Right here, it's going too fast, it's too small of
- 22:05Speaker 13: an area. There is no way. There's hardly a way
- 22:07Speaker 13: to let pedestrians across the street as fast as they're moving,
- 22:09Speaker 13: but there is no way we can let vehicles. So
- 22:11Speaker 13: today and tomorrow, Thursday and Friday, make sure you're out
- 22:15Speaker 13: of that footprint Court to Halle Boulevard de Lea before
- 22:18Speaker 13: five pm. Other than that, that's the traffic stoppage. I
- 22:21Speaker 13: know there was some some stuff going around last yesterday
- 22:25Speaker 13: about some traffic on the Interstate close to Clinton, and
- 22:28Speaker 13: that didn't have anything to do with USA Cycling. There's
- 22:31Speaker 13: no bike races out there. So it's the boulevard all
- 22:34Speaker 13: day to day, and then by five pm tonight that
- 22:37Speaker 13: heart of downtown. Make sure you're out of it with
- 22:40Speaker 13: your car and make sure you're personally in it because
- 22:42Speaker 13: it's extremely exciting. You're watching the best athletes in the
- 22:45Speaker 13: world fly around our city.
- 22:48Speaker 7: It's really exciting.
- 22:49Speaker 4: And again, this is not something that just popped up.
- 22:52Speaker 4: We've been talking about this for months. So if you're
- 22:54Speaker 4: one of these people, and if you work in downtown Charleston,
- 22:57Speaker 4: you know one of two things to do. You need
- 22:59Speaker 4: to add that area that Matt just mentioned. You've got
- 23:01Speaker 4: to have your car out of there because once after
- 23:04Speaker 4: five o'clock you're not going anywhere. However, what you could
- 23:08Speaker 4: do is you could plan on staying in town, grab
- 23:12Speaker 4: yourself some dinner, all the all the businesses are open
- 23:15Speaker 4: that you can grab yourself dinner, dinner, drink, go shopping
- 23:19Speaker 4: at one of the places or whatever, and just kind
- 23:20Speaker 4: of hang out till it's over what time approximately, and
- 23:24Speaker 4: I know it's approximately what time approximately? Will will it
- 23:27Speaker 4: be over this evening? Just give me a ballpark, I
- 23:29Speaker 4: would say midnight. By midnight, I'd say, okay, tonight's the
- 23:32Speaker 4: longest night there. There are a lot of races that
- 23:34Speaker 4: occur tonight, and I think it's the juniors in the
- 23:38Speaker 4: U twenty three, So I think four races, men's juniors,
- 23:41Speaker 4: women's juniors, Men's U twenty three, women's U twenty three
- 23:44Speaker 4: all race tonight. So it's gonna last till eleven thirty
- 23:47Speaker 4: or twelve, and then it'll take us a little bit
- 23:48Speaker 4: of time to put the roads back.
- 23:50Speaker 13: You'll be fine when you come in the morning. It
- 23:52Speaker 13: won't be anything other than the boulevard which has been
- 23:53Speaker 13: shut down since Saturday. But there will be nothing downtown
- 23:58Speaker 13: when you come in in the morning, but tomorrow or
- 24:00Speaker 13: you're gonna rent and repeat with the exact name, exact
- 24:02Speaker 13: same thing, course, the exact same course.
- 24:04Speaker 4: And again it is a minor inconvenience. And again, I'm
- 24:09Speaker 4: a person that accesses downtown Charleston five sometimes six or
- 24:12Speaker 4: seven days a week. You know, I'm right there with you.
- 24:15Speaker 4: But for what this brings Matt to Charleston, the number
- 24:20Speaker 4: of people, the number of eyes that are on Charleston,
- 24:22Speaker 4: and it's not just about the bike event. That's the
- 24:24Speaker 4: thing that I think sometimes people fail to realize. This
- 24:27Speaker 4: puts Charleston on an international and I literally mean an
- 24:30Speaker 4: international stage, and people that are into events that have
- 24:35Speaker 4: absolutely nothing to do with biking are looking at Charleston
- 24:38Speaker 4: right now. They're looking at Charleston and the surrounding areas.
- 24:40Speaker 4: They're saying, well, we saw this event and how the
- 24:44Speaker 4: community truly embraced this event, and we'd like to have
- 24:50Speaker 4: our event there and it could be totally unrelated to biking. Yeah,
- 24:53Speaker 4: it will. It will be unre related to biking.
- 24:55Speaker 13: The next event we get because of the relationship we
- 24:57Speaker 13: have with USA Cycling and how our community came together
- 25:00Speaker 13: to make it happen, will not be related to cycling.
- 25:03Speaker 13: It's going to be something completely different. The event that
- 25:05Speaker 13: led to USA Cycling was USA Junior Table Tennis that
- 25:08Speaker 13: didn't have anything to do with cycling, but that relationship
- 25:11Speaker 13: and how the staff at the CVB, the staff at
- 25:14Speaker 13: the city, the staff the Coliseum Convention Center, how they
- 25:17Speaker 13: built that relationship. And it's the small things I mean,
- 25:20Speaker 13: and I won't get into it, but I can remember
- 25:22Speaker 13: vividly the moment where we kind of knew we were
- 25:25Speaker 13: people within the USA You Table Tennis, knew they were
- 25:28Speaker 13: in a different place when they had to have some
- 25:30Speaker 13: kind of issue with a bank, and you know, it
- 25:33Speaker 13: was eight o'clock at night and the mayor was on
- 25:34Speaker 13: the phone with four different bankers trying to help them
- 25:36Speaker 13: figure out what they needed to do. You don't get
- 25:38Speaker 13: that in other cities. I mean, you hardly can get
- 25:40Speaker 13: a mayor to show up. But our mayor is up there,
- 25:43Speaker 13: you know, eight o'clock at night, not only there to
- 25:44Speaker 13: hand out medals, but she's on the phone with you know,
- 25:46Speaker 13: community people to try to help with a banking issue.
- 25:50Speaker 13: And you know we have she's out there handing out
- 25:52Speaker 13: medal as we have for the USA Cycling folks. And
- 25:56Speaker 13: you know, a counsel woman, Katelyn Cook, was out there
- 25:58Speaker 13: handing out medals. You don't get that kind of participation
- 26:01Speaker 13: in most cities, uh throughout the entire country when they
- 26:05Speaker 13: go to do these events. So just seeing that stuff
- 26:07Speaker 13: and seeing the excitement, I've said it one hundred times.
- 26:10Speaker 13: I think I've said it this week. We got USA Cycling. Yes,
- 26:13Speaker 13: because of the work that Tim Brady and his team did,
- 26:16Speaker 13: and the and the work the mayor did with the
- 26:18Speaker 13: direct meetings with the USA Cycling folks. We got it
- 26:20Speaker 13: because when we went to pitch the meeting. We had
- 26:22Speaker 13: a group of seven or eight community members who were
- 26:24Speaker 13: our committee.
- 26:25Speaker 4: And no other city had that.
- 26:26Speaker 7: And then we just we had it before we even
- 26:28Speaker 7: knew what it was.
- 26:28Speaker 13: We just had people in our community said yeah, we
- 26:30Speaker 13: want this, and they were just volunteers, and that's how
- 26:32Speaker 13: you get these events. And yeah, it is, it is.
- 26:36Speaker 13: I understand it is a minor inconvenience. There are there
- 26:38Speaker 13: are ways around. I mean, it's not you're not deadlocked.
- 26:41Speaker 13: You can get around the race of the traffic. But
- 26:45Speaker 13: really the most important part is is what I would
- 26:46Speaker 13: say is if you're if you are inconvenienced by the traffic,
- 26:50Speaker 13: you know, park park outside the race and come in
- 26:53Speaker 13: and see what's what, what's going on, and you'll get
- 26:55Speaker 13: very excited about it really quick and realize that to
- 26:58Speaker 13: your point, it is a very small mind inconvenience in
- 27:01Speaker 13: order to have something that is not only true economic
- 27:04Speaker 13: development for all of our restaurants and bars and shops,
- 27:07Speaker 13: but really puts Charleston on a map on a scale
- 27:10Speaker 13: that we can't replicate any other way.
- 27:12Speaker 4: But Dave Alan showing five any Live is Bronch You
- 27:14Speaker 4: Apartment by Pinnacle Consultants they're lead paint Inspection risk assessment
- 27:17Speaker 4: services are designed to identify and to assess the presence
- 27:20Speaker 4: of lead based paint and buildings and other structures using
- 27:22Speaker 4: a three phase approach of inspection, sampling, and lab analysis,
- 27:25Speaker 4: and of course the assessment report. Visit Pinnacle Corp. Dot
- 27:28Speaker 4: in net. Because what you don't know can hurts you.
- 27:30Speaker 4: Lots of folks will be coming into town for other things, Matt,
- 27:33Speaker 4: including high school graduations. They've already gotten under waves of
- 27:36Speaker 4: these people that are going to graduations at the coliseum
- 27:38Speaker 4: and convention Center. They have anything to be concerned about.
- 27:41Speaker 13: No, I would I mean, I would say, if if
- 27:43Speaker 13: you're going to come to the coloseumic Convention Center, I would,
- 27:46Speaker 13: you know, utilize the the I wouldn't come through like
- 27:50Speaker 13: Greenbrier Street and try to come through downtown or Leonsolomon
- 27:52Speaker 13: come through downtown. I'd get off on the you know,
- 27:55Speaker 13: the sort of the west side exits that we have,
- 27:57Speaker 13: whether it's Westmoreland or Virginia Street, get off over them,
- 28:00Speaker 13: and you're just going to go right into the parking
- 28:02Speaker 13: garages to relate to the coliseum at convention Center, and
- 28:04Speaker 13: you'll be just fine.
- 28:05Speaker 7: You won't see any of it.
- 28:06Speaker 4: What about getting out when it's over.
- 28:08Speaker 7: I do the same thing. I do the same thing.
- 28:09Speaker 13: I would just sort of circle around the Coliseum Convention Center,
- 28:11Speaker 13: get back on the interstate and move. Driving through downtown
- 28:15Speaker 13: after five pm is not really going to be possible.
- 28:18Speaker 13: You could go around and get onto the other side
- 28:21Speaker 13: and go into the Washington Street area and be okay,
- 28:23Speaker 13: But I would be very cautious about trying to drive
- 28:26Speaker 13: through downtown that might maybe have it. But and you
- 28:29Speaker 13: know a lot of folks I know. I believe GW's
- 28:31Speaker 13: graduations today. I think it's at one, so I think
- 28:33Speaker 13: they'll be fine. Stay off the boulevard. But other than that,
- 28:36Speaker 13: I think if you can circle around the interstates, that's
- 28:39Speaker 13: where you'll be the safest after five pm.
- 28:41Speaker 7: Before five pm, you'll be fine.
- 28:43Speaker 4: And of course Live on the Levee is back tomorrow evening.
- 28:46Speaker 4: Jim Strawn's going to join us to talk about that.
- 28:48Speaker 4: It's a kickoff of Live on the Levee.
- 28:49Speaker 13: Yeah, that's it's a tonight starts an extremely fun weekend
- 28:53Speaker 13: in Charleston. So I think starting at four pm, then
- 28:55Speaker 13: today we'll see music in city center. It's like Paul
- 29:00Speaker 13: so You'll have DJs and live music throughout the entire evening.
- 29:02Speaker 13: It stretches all night. That'll be a lot of fun.
- 29:05Speaker 13: And then tomorrow, I think we kick off at four
- 29:07Speaker 13: pm with a with a band in the city center
- 29:10Speaker 13: and then we come at five pm, go down to
- 29:11Speaker 13: the levee Well, Reverend Horton Heat will be there and
- 29:15Speaker 13: then they start. They stop about six thirty and then
- 29:19Speaker 13: the bike races start. We got music back in the
- 29:21Speaker 13: park again, different watch zones, and then that just continues
- 29:23Speaker 13: throughout the weekend. We've got the Vandelia going over to
- 29:26Speaker 13: Capitol Complex as well. You've got the Bridge Road shops
- 29:29Speaker 13: that are having their watch party. You've got Wartz Avenue.
- 29:31Speaker 13: I know Minny Leonard and her folks have already posted
- 29:33Speaker 13: about what they're doing over there. It's all throughout town
- 29:36Speaker 13: and it's just going to be an exciting weekend and
- 29:38Speaker 13: it's something that we're really we're really looking forward to.
- 29:41Speaker 13: And I think that you know, last year, we really
- 29:44Speaker 13: got a good sense of what the races are, and
- 29:45Speaker 13: this year, I think we're gonna get a good sense
- 29:47Speaker 13: of how we can have a good time with it
- 29:49Speaker 13: as well and really enjoy not only the athletes, but
- 29:53Speaker 13: our entire community. And it looks like we're gonna get good,
- 29:55Speaker 13: good weather to participate with.
- 29:56Speaker 4: And of course I do want to mention I think
- 29:58Speaker 4: the courthouse is going to close early, yes today.
- 30:02Speaker 9: Uh.
- 30:03Speaker 4: And we had a text here that said, I think
- 30:04Speaker 4: the city and county should extend the holiday and let
- 30:07Speaker 4: workers have the day off on Friday. That will help
- 30:09Speaker 4: all the parties and the traffic problems.
- 30:12Speaker 7: I mean, I don't I don't look to see that happen.
- 30:14Speaker 13: I mean I appreciate the information, but you know, we've
- 30:16Speaker 13: got the holiday on Monday, but.
- 30:18Speaker 7: You got a lot of work to do.
- 30:19Speaker 4: You an all hands on day.
- 30:21Speaker 7: We got a lot of work. We got a lot
- 30:22Speaker 7: of work to do.
- 30:23Speaker 6: And uh.
- 30:24Speaker 13: And we're fortunate enough to have a dedicated staff that
- 30:26Speaker 13: that really see the value of these events. I mean
- 30:28Speaker 13: it's not always easy to get people to see it.
- 30:31Speaker 13: You know, sometimes when you're when you're working a post
- 30:34Speaker 13: or you're setting up something, you might not see it.
- 30:36Speaker 13: But a lot of our workers hang around and they
- 30:38Speaker 13: get to see the fund they get to participate, and
- 30:41Speaker 13: the the.
- 30:42Speaker 7: Value that our team brings.
- 30:44Speaker 13: Again, I keep harping back to how we got this
- 30:46Speaker 13: event and how we've kept it and while we'll get
- 30:48Speaker 13: another events from it. You know, when USA Cycling was
- 30:51Speaker 13: in other cities, they have a staff of people who
- 30:53Speaker 13: set up the you know, the course and set up
- 30:55Speaker 13: the railings and all that. When they came here last year,
- 30:59Speaker 13: you know, when they get ready to set up, well
- 31:00Speaker 13: we have we have a team of city staff just
- 31:02Speaker 13: sitting right there with them, and they're like, what are
- 31:03Speaker 13: you all doing? Well, we're here to set up. And
- 31:05Speaker 13: they hadn't had that experience elsewhere. They were on their
- 31:07Speaker 13: own to do it, but we had. They had our
- 31:08Speaker 13: folks who were sitting there eager and ready to help
- 31:10Speaker 13: set up. And this year, same thing, and it's just
- 31:12Speaker 13: been it's been a great experience for everybody. Uh And
- 31:14Speaker 13: it really kicks into gear tonight and throughout the entire weekend.
- 31:18Speaker 13: This is certainly a Memorial Day weekend to be in Charleston.
- 31:22Speaker 13: Don't head out of town. This is one We're gonna
- 31:23Speaker 13: have a lot of fun.
- 31:24Speaker 4: And tonight the Dirty Birds are at home tonight as well.
- 31:28Speaker 4: They're going to hit the road for the weekend. But
- 31:30Speaker 4: of course they're a sponsor at the show. Tonight is
- 31:32Speaker 4: Jurassic Park Night sponsored by United Plus. It's Thursday Thursday
- 31:35Speaker 4: one dollar beers and waters starting at five thirty. You
- 31:37Speaker 4: can visit Dirty Birds Baseball dot com or the social
- 31:39Speaker 4: media for more information. Also, we've got the track and
- 31:43Speaker 4: Field Championships going on over it lately. Yeah.
- 31:45Speaker 13: Yeah, we don't do one thing at a time. Yeah
- 31:47Speaker 13: we don't do one thing well and nor should we.
- 31:50Speaker 13: But yeah, you have the track and Field Championships. Those
- 31:52Speaker 13: folks have been really communicated with about the traffic that'll
- 31:55Speaker 13: be over that way, and that's really using utilizing the
- 31:58Speaker 13: Green Broish Street exit to get the late field and
- 32:02Speaker 13: really being able to keep the areas as separate as
- 32:07Speaker 13: we can.
- 32:07Speaker 7: But track is one of the.
- 32:09Speaker 13: Biggest high school postseason events that occurs throughout the entire state.
- 32:13Speaker 13: I mean, I think that, you know, we think about basketball,
- 32:15Speaker 13: we think about football, but track go over that way.
- 32:18Speaker 7: It is packed with a lot.
- 32:19Speaker 13: Of families, a lot of kids do out from our
- 32:22Speaker 13: entire state, and it really is a good economic boom
- 32:24Speaker 13: for our city. But most importantly, again, it's really a
- 32:27Speaker 13: great experience for the kids and families and we really
- 32:29Speaker 13: like this. I mean I think that you know, last
- 32:31Speaker 13: year when we had the state High school Cheerleading Championship,
- 32:33Speaker 13: the state high School Fooba Championships going on at the
- 32:36Speaker 13: same time as we had the Light to Night and
- 32:39Speaker 13: student athletes and parents were able to participate in that,
- 32:41Speaker 13: and they were able to come down downtown to Hollaw
- 32:43Speaker 13: Jolly Brawley and have that. That just adds to the
- 32:46Speaker 13: experience of these of these families and kids that come
- 32:48Speaker 13: to Charleston. So not only this kid's going to get
- 32:50Speaker 13: to race at extremely high levels of their own athletic abilities,
- 32:53Speaker 13: but then they're going to get to come down down
- 32:55Speaker 13: and watch the world class athletes do the cycling race
- 32:57Speaker 13: throughout the entire city and it just adds to everything.
- 33:00Speaker 13: I mean, we you know, every now and then people
- 33:02Speaker 13: will say, well, you know, I want to have my
- 33:03Speaker 13: I want to have my event by myself on its
- 33:05Speaker 13: own weekend. That that doesn't really work anymore. We really
- 33:08Speaker 13: want to have multiple things going on at one time
- 33:11Speaker 13: that we can make sure that show showcase our entire city.
- 33:15Speaker 13: And I think that's that's really a model that we've
- 33:17Speaker 13: seen over the last couple of years that we really
- 33:20Speaker 13: enjoy and like it is a lot of work, but
- 33:22Speaker 13: it just makes our city shane and we're really excited
- 33:24Speaker 13: about it.
- 33:25Speaker 4: Let me finish this with the texts says to Dave,
- 33:27Speaker 4: I'm very happy for my hometown with the success the
- 33:29Speaker 4: bike thing. Blah blah blah. This is tongue in cheek.
- 33:33Speaker 4: Just take a tiny bit of offense with Matt Sutton's
- 33:35Speaker 4: comment about the cycling people being the best athletes in
- 33:37Speaker 4: the world. Everybody knows the best athletes in the world are,
- 33:39Speaker 4: in fact, hockey players. Just ask Have Matt ask his.
- 33:43Speaker 13: Boss, Well, I will, and I know what she's going
- 33:47Speaker 13: to say. She's going to say, it's hockey players. I mean,
- 33:49Speaker 13: you know, I'm here, I watched the cycling people go around.
- 33:52Speaker 7: I'll do that.
- 33:53Speaker 13: I believe that hockey players are amazing athletes. They're all
- 33:57Speaker 13: better than I am, so they're nothing.
- 33:58Speaker 7: Not in sake. But we'd also throw professional wrestlers into
- 34:01Speaker 7: that too.
- 34:01Speaker 4: Good. Yeah, professional wrestlers not sports entertainers. There's a big difference.
- 34:05Speaker 7: Okay, well, we're supposed to build those sports entertainers.
- 34:07Speaker 4: We'll have that. No, we'll have that argument ay day
- 34:11Speaker 4: before I run real quick because I know you got
- 34:13Speaker 4: other stuff.
- 34:13Speaker 13: So I don't do this very often, but I want
- 34:15Speaker 13: to give a birthday shout out to my good friend
- 34:16Speaker 13: Don Wilson. Don is you know, the owner Capitalin Insurance group.
- 34:20Speaker 13: He's been in Charleston his entire life. Don and I
- 34:22Speaker 13: grew up together, and it is, quite frankly the person
- 34:24Speaker 13: I lean on the most, both personally and professionally. So
- 34:27Speaker 13: I just want to give a shout out to Don
- 34:28Speaker 13: on his birthday today.
- 34:29Speaker 4: Absolutely, and I'm end of the show too.
- 34:31Speaker 13: Yeah, And you know, there's there's hardly anything you can
- 34:33Speaker 13: do to boost his ego, but having a shout out
- 34:35Speaker 13: on the radio which would certainly help. He's a very
- 34:37Speaker 13: humble individual and we certainly appreciate all he does for Charleston,
- 34:40Speaker 13: all he's done for me personally.
- 34:41Speaker 4: All right, all right, A good way to leave it.
- 34:43Speaker 4: We got to go, Matt, appreciate you being here. We'll
- 34:45Speaker 4: probably talk to you tomorrow, or we have talked to
- 34:47Speaker 4: somebody tomorrow on the show to see what's going on tomorrow.
- 34:50Speaker 7: I absolutely all right.

- 37:34Speaker 12: Hey, good morning, Dave. I'm doing great.
- 37:36Speaker 4: You know. Uh so I called you early, the world's
- 37:38Speaker 4: most famous snake bite victim. It's been over a year.
- 37:41Speaker 4: Uh now, how long has it been?
- 37:42Speaker 7: A year?
- 37:43Speaker 9: In what?
- 37:43Speaker 12: May fifteenth was exactly a year?
- 37:45Speaker 4: All right, how's the recovery going? You know?
- 37:47Speaker 12: It's I'm just blessed. I'm lessed to be able to
- 37:49Speaker 12: walk and stand. That I can't run, I can't jump,
- 37:51Speaker 12: but I still try to go to the gym and
- 37:53Speaker 12: do what I can. I have to get a stimulator
- 37:55Speaker 12: actually putting my back to control my pain. That still
- 37:57Speaker 12: have two dead nerves in my foot, and so just
- 38:00Speaker 12: to control the pain a little bit. But hey, I'm
- 38:02Speaker 12: not letting it hold me down. I'm out there. I'm
- 38:04Speaker 12: doing my thing and you know it's but it's real.
- 38:06Speaker 12: The struggle is still really but I'm not out of
- 38:08Speaker 12: the weeds yet.
- 38:08Speaker 4: Well you're here. Well yeah, no pun intended, but but
- 38:12Speaker 4: you're here. That's who I'm hearing.
- 38:14Speaker 12: I'm here because it could have been a whole lot worse.
- 38:16Speaker 12: You know, it's just yesterday someone said, we have a
- 38:18Speaker 12: new term. It's called when you hit your golf ball
- 38:21Speaker 12: in the weaves. Don't go in there. You'll get scaffed.
- 38:24Speaker 4: You get scaffed.
- 38:25Speaker 12: So someone told me that yesterday, said, I educated a
- 38:27Speaker 12: lot of people about staying out of the weeds.
- 38:29Speaker 7: Be careful.
- 38:29Speaker 12: The golf ball's not worth it when you're out cutting
- 38:31Speaker 12: the grass and lawn.
- 38:32Speaker 4: Just watch what you do.
- 38:33Speaker 12: So anything, I brought a lot of attention to it.
- 38:34Speaker 4: Now, you being the master marketer, I'm seeing some t
- 38:37Speaker 4: shirts there scaffed scaffed you got, don't get scaffed. Don't
- 38:41Speaker 4: get a scaffed. Speaking of marketing, we know you from
- 38:44Speaker 4: of course HD media, we know you. And for the
- 38:47Speaker 4: political realm, now we know you as I don't know
- 38:51Speaker 4: the next Colonel Sanders of Charleston taking over a legendary place.
- 38:57Speaker 4: Phasio is talk.
- 38:58Speaker 12: About that, you know what, just saving a legacy establishment
- 39:01Speaker 12: like Phaseos. I couldn't imagine Charleston without it. For over
- 39:04Speaker 12: seventy five years, nineteen forty nine, that family has produced
- 39:07Speaker 12: some delicious and fantastic food, some great times and memories
- 39:11Speaker 12: for everyone. You know, it's no secret Danny and Marcia
- 39:14Speaker 12: they've been trying to maybe you know, get towards retirement
- 39:18Speaker 12: or ease out, but they weren't Russian to do it.
- 39:21Speaker 12: They wanted to find They want to leave it in
- 39:22Speaker 12: good hands.
- 39:23Speaker 2: You know.
- 39:23Speaker 12: They talked to de All with this two years ago.
- 39:25Speaker 12: This has been about two years in the making, and
- 39:27Speaker 12: they wanted to be the right fit. And so we
- 39:28Speaker 12: started talking about a year ago and we just talked
- 39:30Speaker 12: to more and I said, well know when you start
- 39:31Speaker 12: getting serious, and we finally came to an agreement that
- 39:35Speaker 12: I couldn't do this without my partner, Vicente. Vicente Cruz,
- 39:38Speaker 12: who you know owns and operates the Hell House. He's
- 39:40Speaker 12: got very established on the town. He's an old outback operator.
- 39:43Speaker 12: He knows the restaurant business. I might know the business
- 39:46Speaker 12: side and the marketing side, but he is the restaurant
- 39:48Speaker 12: here of town.
- 39:48Speaker 5: You know.
- 39:49Speaker 12: He and Chef Paul right up there to one of
- 39:50Speaker 12: the best in the town. You got Mike Trisha, you
- 39:52Speaker 12: got everybody in town. We had some great food town
- 39:54Speaker 12: and I can't imagine not having Phaseios in town. So
- 39:57Speaker 12: we worked out a deal. Everyone says this million dollar questions.
- 40:00Speaker 12: You keep everything the same, you know, you get all
- 40:02Speaker 12: the recipes. It's like I call it the name, image
- 40:04Speaker 12: and likeness. We get everything, you know, Phaseos, the name,
- 40:07Speaker 12: the brand, the food, the recipes, the great staff, the employees.
- 40:12Speaker 12: We want to keep everything, say, and even the day corp.
- 40:14Speaker 4: The day corps. You're just joking about it.
- 40:15Speaker 12: That's what makes it, man, That's what makes it the
- 40:17Speaker 12: old old field, old Italian world field.
- 40:19Speaker 4: Yeah. And I'll give a big shout out to Steven Keith,
- 40:21Speaker 4: the food guy, who did an excellent article in the
- 40:22Speaker 4: Gauze that mail about it yesterday talking about the history
- 40:26Speaker 4: of the place and how you know, the folks involved
- 40:29Speaker 4: wanted to retire, but they didn't want to just turn
- 40:31Speaker 4: it over to anyone, and they're going to be sticking
- 40:34Speaker 4: around a little bit as kind of quality control, I guess, right,
- 40:37Speaker 4: just to make sure that. I mean, because you can't
- 40:39Speaker 4: just come over and take it over a legendary place
- 40:41Speaker 4: like that. I mean you got to have somebody kind
- 40:43Speaker 4: of in there and say, Okay, yes you're doing Not
- 40:45Speaker 4: that said they can't do the job. I don't mean that,
- 40:47Speaker 4: but I'm just saying there's certain ways of doing things.
- 40:49Speaker 12: Shout out to Danny Mark. I mean, Danny is there
- 40:53Speaker 12: when the start of the morning to the end of
- 40:54Speaker 12: the night, and you know the knowledge capital that he
- 40:57Speaker 12: has When I say old school who Italian restaurant, guess
- 40:59Speaker 12: we're the recipe throwing his head. Not a lot of
- 41:02Speaker 12: them were wrote down, so I mean you got to
- 41:03Speaker 12: he's been We've been writing them down, we've been watching them,
- 41:05Speaker 12: we've been taking pictures, we've been trying to get everything
- 41:07Speaker 12: the same, because it's all in his head. You know,
- 41:09Speaker 12: his cup may not be the same as a measuring cup,
- 41:11Speaker 12: or a little pinch of this, pinch of that. Old
- 41:13Speaker 12: schools like your grandma's, like your grandma He said, this
- 41:15Speaker 12: is my grandmother's recipe, This was my mom's recipe. This
- 41:17Speaker 12: was this, and he said, so those recipes are passed down,
- 41:19Speaker 12: so we have been writing them down. He's sticking around
- 41:21Speaker 12: for a few weeks. Marsha's been there. Marsha kind of runs.
- 41:23Speaker 12: His wife runs in front of the house and the
- 41:24Speaker 12: staffing and the deliveries and the area the deliveries to
- 41:27Speaker 12: take out and the reservations. But he is in the
- 41:29Speaker 12: back of the house from ordering the food to preparait
- 41:31Speaker 12: But here's the best part.
- 41:31Speaker 4: This is what I learned.
- 41:32Speaker 12: You could go there for three months in a row
- 41:34Speaker 12: and get something different every night. There's so many different choices.
- 41:37Speaker 12: I was one of those that kind of got stuck
- 41:38Speaker 12: in my way. I was like, you know, black and
- 41:40Speaker 12: filet on the best steaks in town, or a chicken
- 41:43Speaker 12: palm or eggplant parm or even the black and grouper.
- 41:45Speaker 12: Those are my four go to things. I've seen entrees
- 41:47Speaker 12: I've never even seen before. I didn't even know they existed.
- 41:49Speaker 12: But here's the best part. Everything is fresh and homemade.
- 41:53Speaker 12: I say everything everything. Stephen Keith pointed that out. I mean,
- 41:57Speaker 12: the dressings are made from scratch. The sauces, his own
- 42:00Speaker 12: secret sauce, his his his black and seasoning. Everything is
- 42:03Speaker 12: made from scratch everything. I mean even he even grinds
- 42:05Speaker 12: his own coffee beans. Yeah, I mean it's I did
- 42:08Speaker 12: not know that until I read Stevens some people. So
- 42:10Speaker 12: everything that's what makes this play special and unique. And
- 42:13Speaker 12: you know what people have been coming, they've been to
- 42:14Speaker 12: reach out to. The celebration has been great. That the
- 42:16Speaker 12: legacy lives on, and that's all we want to do. Well,
- 42:18Speaker 12: you know, we just want to hopefully, you know, feel
- 42:20Speaker 12: it's hard to fill those those shoes in the family home,
- 42:22Speaker 12: but we're going to carry on the traditions, keep everything
- 42:24Speaker 12: the same, add a little bit of our old touch
- 42:26Speaker 12: and that there.
- 42:27Speaker 9: You know.
- 42:27Speaker 12: Might we might mix the hours.
- 42:28Speaker 4: Up a little bit.
- 42:29Speaker 12: We might open up a little earlier, say open a
- 42:30Speaker 12: little late, but you know, don't worry about the food quality.
- 42:33Speaker 12: We're going to get it there and Danny's not going
- 42:34Speaker 12: to leave until it's right.
- 42:35Speaker 4: Trust me, talking to Doug Scaff, We're going to take
- 42:38Speaker 4: a break because I want to talk about some other things,
- 42:40Speaker 4: mister Scaff, other than just a restaurant business. Although I
- 42:42Speaker 4: could talk about that all day. You know, you know me,
- 42:44Speaker 4: I'm a food guy that's making you hungry. Yeah, yeah,
- 42:47Speaker 4: nine o'clock in the morning. I'm sitting there thinking an
- 42:48Speaker 4: egg plant parm I'm in. I'm my favorite the bill
- 42:51Speaker 4: parm too. The bill is great. Yeah, everything everything there,
- 42:54Speaker 4: and I'm glad to know that it's going to continue.
- 42:55Speaker 4: And you've got some other things that are planned that
- 42:57Speaker 4: you'll be telling us about. Let me ask you this though,
- 42:58Speaker 4: before we go to break as the takeover already happened,
- 43:01Speaker 4: Are you folks like in charge now?
- 43:03Speaker 2: Yes?
- 43:03Speaker 4: So we closed.
- 43:04Speaker 12: We closed on the May twelfth, last Monday, so we
- 43:06Speaker 12: have one full week of operations. So they're going to
- 43:08Speaker 12: stay on board for three to four weeks with the
- 43:09Speaker 12: transition and teach us and show us the ropes. And
- 43:11Speaker 12: they're there in the kitchen. He's there in the kitchen,
- 43:13Speaker 12: rolling up his sleeves, teaching Vicente. And we have Eric,
- 43:15Speaker 12: you know, he's been great as our manager over there,
- 43:18Speaker 12: and Christy Vicenti's wife helping us get everything on the plane.
- 43:21Speaker 12: So we took over Fishley. So we're one week and
- 43:24Speaker 12: a couple of days in. This is our second full
- 43:25Speaker 12: week on the books. Yes, it's over. It's our name
- 43:28Speaker 12: and I can't wait to tell you about the group

- 46:19Speaker 4: episodes WV Metronews dot com. Doug scaff is here a
- 46:22Speaker 4: restaurant tour. Doug scaff text. I wondered I don't know
- 46:27Speaker 4: about reading this on the air, but I asked you
- 46:29Speaker 4: in the break and you said, yeah, go ahead. So Texas,
- 46:31Speaker 4: I've seen on social media that Phasio's is a big,
- 46:33Speaker 4: outspoken Trump lover restaurant. Seems weird. Scaff would take it over.
- 46:37Speaker 4: Are they planning to keep the same outspoken Trump lover vibe?
- 46:41Speaker 4: Politics is even in your palm. This is where we
- 46:44Speaker 4: are now.
- 46:45Speaker 12: But go ahead, Hey, listen. I love politics more than anybody,
- 46:47Speaker 12: and I'm all in. But when it comes to the
- 46:48Speaker 12: restaurant business, listen, we check your politics at the door. No,
- 46:52Speaker 12: everyone is welcome there. They're not going to have that
- 46:54Speaker 12: same vibe. There was a frame picture of Donald Trump
- 46:56Speaker 12: and it got a lot of attention on social media.
- 46:58Speaker 12: I think it was in an autograph picture they god,
- 47:00Speaker 12: and there was a little, you know, confrontation about that
- 47:03Speaker 12: and who's your president and who do you support? And
- 47:06Speaker 12: that's check that at the door. There's no place in
- 47:09Speaker 12: restaurant because it's come and eat, enjoy a great night.
- 47:11Speaker 12: I don't care what political persuasion you are, or who's
- 47:13Speaker 12: who you voted for for president or who you didn't
- 47:16Speaker 12: vote for. Listen, we just want to cook great food,
- 47:18Speaker 12: keep a legacy restaurant going, bring people together, have a
- 47:21Speaker 12: great time and keep a tradition of Charleston alive. You know,
- 47:24Speaker 12: people say, hey, where are there to go? What's give
- 47:26Speaker 12: me a good local place? Phasos is one of the
- 47:27Speaker 12: top three places they mentioned for a long for a
- 47:30Speaker 12: long time, for seventy five years.
- 47:31Speaker 4: You put together a group you mentioned. But there's other people.
- 47:34Speaker 12: Here talking about so listen. When we're talking to Danny Faser,
- 47:37Speaker 12: he goes. Listen, said Danny, I don't know about this,
- 47:39Speaker 12: you know, he said, But guess what happened When he's
- 47:40Speaker 12: talked about selling the place. Everyone just said, hey, we
- 47:43Speaker 12: can't let this go. We can't let Phaseias goes. Even
- 47:45Speaker 12: May your good one said, you know, Phaseias was one
- 47:46Speaker 12: of my one of my favorite restaurants in town. We
- 47:48Speaker 12: got to do something. So I put together a little
- 47:50Speaker 12: investment group of shareholders who could buy some shares into
- 47:52Speaker 12: the restaurant that help save it, you know, and put
- 47:54Speaker 12: Vicente is the key to this, because he's the restaurant here.
- 47:56Speaker 12: He's got the background. But we put a group of
- 47:58Speaker 12: just Phaseio lovers together, Charleston, people that love Charleston and
- 48:01Speaker 12: love it as a destination. People who've celebrated anniversaries and
- 48:04Speaker 12: birthdays and eat there. I've got regulars that eat there
- 48:06Speaker 12: every week. They have a standing reservation at six thirty
- 48:09Speaker 12: pm every Saturday. And they just want to be a
- 48:11Speaker 12: part of this, and so maybe they don't have you know,
- 48:13Speaker 12: they aren't gonna go out and start their own restaurants
- 48:15Speaker 12: to day, but they get to be a part of something.
- 48:16Speaker 12: We're gonna have a wine tasting today with some of
- 48:18Speaker 12: the owners. We're gonna come together. We're gonna figure out
- 48:20Speaker 12: what wines we want to offer on the menu and
- 48:21Speaker 12: add a little bit more to our to our menu
- 48:23Speaker 12: there and just gonna have fun with it. And I
- 48:25Speaker 12: think it's good to have people involved. That's how many
- 48:27Speaker 12: people just like just look at Charleston Azet Mail. You
- 48:29Speaker 12: know it was up for sale. We have a group
- 48:30Speaker 12: of investors came together to help save the Gazette Mail. Well,
- 48:33Speaker 12: we save this restaurant. It's going to be here for
- 48:35Speaker 12: years to come. And it was great to see a group.
- 48:37Speaker 12: And does the name the name I think you're gonna
- 48:39Speaker 12: like the name, Dave. The name of the holding company
- 48:40Speaker 12: is Goodfellas.
- 48:41Speaker 4: Good Fellows. W ll love it, absolutely love it, absolutely
- 48:45Speaker 4: love it. All right, let's quickly touch on politics for
- 48:47Speaker 4: a moment, because you can't talk about it in the restaurant.
- 48:50Speaker 4: You know, I haven't had you legislature wrapped up. You
- 48:52Speaker 4: keep it close to ony on what was going on.
- 48:53Speaker 7: Of course, of course they do.
- 48:54Speaker 12: Yeah, it's it's I get to see all these guys
- 48:56Speaker 12: up there covering the legislature. It was an interest session,
- 49:00Speaker 12: you know, I wish more was accomplished, like everybody else.
- 49:04Speaker 12: You know, it's one of those like boxing matches. It
- 49:05Speaker 12: goes fifteen rounds and by the time you get to
- 49:07Speaker 12: the end, people finally feel they fill each other out
- 49:09Speaker 12: and then it's over. The first couple of weeks there
- 49:11Speaker 12: were some knockout punches back and forth. You know, you
- 49:13Speaker 12: had people on the Governor's side, you had the House
- 49:15Speaker 12: side and the Senate side. It seems like they couldn't
- 49:17Speaker 12: come together. And it's amazing when you have all three parties,
- 49:19Speaker 12: you know, in control of Legjedger, you thought maybe you
- 49:22Speaker 12: expected more mm hmm, but that's what happened when you
- 49:24Speaker 12: had over you over over half the legislature had turned
- 49:27Speaker 12: over in the last couple of years, So when you
- 49:29Speaker 12: have all these new people in there, they'd all come
- 49:30Speaker 12: in there with fresh new ideas and they're learning their
- 49:32Speaker 12: way around. And then they realized you got to work together.
- 49:34Speaker 12: At the end of the day when the session's over shoot,
- 49:37Speaker 12: we should have worked together more, We should have compromised,
- 49:39Speaker 12: we should have built relationships. And so now I think
- 49:41Speaker 12: you'll have a better session next time.
- 49:42Speaker 4: Well, and of course we've got special sessions coming up,
- 49:45Speaker 4: and you remember those from your days of the legislature.
- 49:47Speaker 4: What those were like?
- 49:47Speaker 12: Special sessions. You know, they can be good and bad.
- 49:49Speaker 12: You know, a lot of times they're topical. The governor
- 49:51Speaker 12: sets the agenda and you're focused, and you're in for
- 49:53Speaker 12: three days, you know, three, four or five days, and
- 49:55Speaker 12: you're focused on the agenda item at hand. There's a
- 49:58Speaker 12: lot of things this state and needs that we got
- 49:59Speaker 12: to quick kick in the down the road on some
- 50:00Speaker 12: of those big ticket items. They're they're hard to solve.
- 50:03Speaker 4: There's no foster care.
- 50:05Speaker 12: I mean, we've got to address these issues now, and
- 50:09Speaker 12: it's just gonna get more expensive we keep picking it
- 50:11Speaker 12: down the road, that's gonna get bigger and bigger problem.
- 50:13Speaker 12: So we just gotta we just gotta suck it up
- 50:15Speaker 12: and do it now and come together in a room
- 50:17Speaker 12: and lock and lock the door and everybody figure this out.
- 50:19Speaker 12: Come on, we can do it. We got a lot
- 50:21Speaker 12: of smart people up there. Just figure it out. Quit fighting.
- 50:23Speaker 12: Quit saying there's my idea or your idea, or his
- 50:25Speaker 12: idea or their idea. What's worked together? Finally, as a state,
- 50:28Speaker 12: you know, we're still blessed as a great state. We
- 50:30Speaker 12: have revenues coming in, we're there, we have great people.
- 50:33Speaker 12: Let's just work together. Put the campaign's over. I say
- 50:36Speaker 12: this all the time. You know the campaign's over. You
- 50:38Speaker 12: know whatever you ran for, Hey, we're all one now.
- 50:40Speaker 12: You know you're all one team. Now work together to
- 50:42Speaker 12: make this state better. That's what the people like to do.
- 50:44Speaker 4: For Unfortunately, though, the campaign is never over. That seems
- 50:47Speaker 4: to be the.
- 50:47Speaker 12: PAYBC There'll always be campaign and ABC's there'll always be campaigning.
- 50:51Speaker 4: All right, all right, So you know where I'm gonna
- 50:53Speaker 4: go next with you. We're gonna do we come on.
- 51:00Speaker 4: I know you're you're a young guy, you got a
- 51:02Speaker 4: lot going for you. I know you're always thinking. I mean,
- 51:03Speaker 4: you ran for secretary of state last year. No, you
- 51:06Speaker 4: keep a close side of the legislature. Any any any
- 51:09Speaker 4: hints just between us now, nobody's listening.
- 51:11Speaker 12: Just yeah, no one's listening right now. If I did anything,
- 51:13Speaker 12: i'd keep it more local.
- 51:14Speaker 7: You know.
- 51:14Speaker 12: Obviously a state wide race that took a big toll
- 51:16Speaker 12: on me, and that's a lot now with this restaurant Endea,
- 51:18Speaker 12: damnure got you killed, but I got to kill Yeah,
- 51:20Speaker 12: literally literally, I'm gonna stay out of the heads there. I
- 51:22Speaker 12: saw places of West Virginia. I know I'm not going
- 51:24Speaker 12: to step foot in again because I'm afraid of those
- 51:27Speaker 12: nets that are out there. But no, bottom line has
- 51:28Speaker 12: met a lot of great people traveling the state. But hey,
- 51:30Speaker 12: I'm focused on growing businesses here, helping the community, uh,
- 51:33Speaker 12: being a part of something special and growing this phaseus. Hey,
- 51:36Speaker 12: you listen, it's not just here's what I learned when
- 51:38Speaker 12: it comes to phaseias. All these politicians from around the state,
- 51:40Speaker 12: regardless of their persuasion, I said, oh, I'm so glad,
- 51:42Speaker 12: so glad you stepped in and keep this legs going.
- 51:44Speaker 12: We can't wait to visit it. From whatever part of
- 51:46Speaker 12: the state they're from. They want to come back and
- 51:47Speaker 12: go to face.
- 51:48Speaker 4: It's kind of a bring people together, it's all. There's
- 51:51Speaker 4: always legislators there. It's always kind of place with the
- 51:53Speaker 4: Fields people together.
- 51:54Speaker 12: Maybe we can solve the foster care crisis. There, phaseos
- 51:56Speaker 12: over some meatballs and pub.
- 51:58Speaker 4: Meat balls on a good bottle of wine. All right,
- 52:00Speaker 4: mister Meadows is here. You get anything you want to
- 52:02Speaker 4: and you want to talk to him about anything? Can
- 52:04Speaker 4: I get a menu item named after me?

- 52:08Speaker 4: Come on, Oh my god, I love it.
- 52:09Speaker 8: I love it.
