- 0:00Welcome to another wonderful, wonderful edition of the Urantia
- 0:04Radio Podcast. That's where I get to spend a
- 0:07little while with you, talking about my most favorite subject
- 0:10in the whole wide world, the Urantia book Revelation.
- 0:13You know, I take walks now, and I would recommend it for anybody
- 0:17who's looking for a way to kind of ease their way back into more
- 0:20physical activity. And I forgot, I used to walk a
- 0:24lot when I was a kid. And now that I'm walking every
- 0:27day, I start my day with a nice walk.
- 0:30I don't take my Airpods or my earbuds.
- 0:33I don't listen to the radio. That's my time with my, my inner
- 0:38attempt to have conversations and just feel the presence of
- 0:43God in my in my mind and in my being.
- 0:46And often times I come up with a lot of great ideas on what I
- 0:50want to talk about on the next episode of the podcast.
- 0:53And I actually have two subjects.
- 0:55The 1st is going to be what this podcast is about, and then the
- 0:58next one is going to be about something that you're hearing
- 1:01about in the news, especially if you listen to news about the
- 1:05astronomy or the James Webb telescope or space discoveries,
- 1:10something called a Dyson sphere. And I'll get into that a little
- 1:15bit. I think you'll be very
- 1:16fascinating. It's going to be the next
- 1:17podcast. But for this one, because it's
- 1:20the week where Americans and people around the world
- 1:23celebrate the independence of the United States, I thought we
- 1:27would take a look at liberty, liberty, human behavior.
- 1:32When is liberty good and when is liberty bad?
- 1:36And the turns out that the Urantia book revelators have a
- 1:39lot to teach about the subject. That's what we're going to get
- 1:41into. Thank you again for stopping by.
- 1:44This is the Urantia Radio podcast.
- 1:45Take a quick break. You know, a lot of us are
- 2:10thinking about liberty. A lot of us are celebrating
- 2:12liberty, particularly American citizens in the United States.
- 2:15We celebrate our our liberty because it is a representation
- 2:20of the deal that God has made with man by endowing him with
- 2:25free will and creative free will, free moral discernment.
- 2:29It is because men and women are able to have moral discernment.
- 2:34We can make the decisions, the right and wrong decisions.
- 2:38And it turns out that liberty is a very valuable thing in, in the
- 2:43cosmos. Our, our revelators go to great
- 2:45lengths to to talk about what good is good liberty and what is
- 2:50bad liberty. And I've been reading the
- 2:53Arrancha book now for, I don't know, 40 years.
- 2:58And it's interesting because you read, if you've been a long time
- 3:01reader, I'll share this experience with you and I think
- 3:03you'll be able to relate. And if you are a new reader,
- 3:07then you can look forward to many, many years of reading the
- 3:10same passages. And over time, your
- 3:15interpretation of those passages will change depending on your
- 3:19environment. So for example, when I was
- 3:23younger and I read these words about liberty, I had a whole
- 3:27different perspective of life. I was 2122 years old and liberty
- 3:32meant something completely different than what it means
- 3:34today. Today liberty is self restraint,
- 3:37really, true liberty is control of self, as the revelators will
- 3:45explain to us, and false liberty is typically destructive and
- 3:50suicidal. Now it is 2024, and as I look
- 3:54around today, I see a lot more false liberty than I see true
- 3:58liberty. And the distinction is that
- 4:01what's missing is moral discernment.
- 4:05And I write about this in my book, which I'm almost done
- 4:08with, which is called Godless, how secularism will Destroy
- 4:12civilization. And it talks about the, the, the
- 4:17chance that God endows human beings with spirit potential by
- 4:22giving him free will is the only way.
- 4:24And they've been debating this, I think if you go back and
- 4:26listen to my interview with Byron Belezos a few months ago
- 4:31where he talks about the debate that has been going on among the
- 4:37church and among theologians. What is free will?
- 4:40Are we truly given free will or does God have predestiny plan
- 4:46for everybody? How can an all knowing, all
- 4:49powerful God not know what is in store for each one of his
- 4:54children? In fact, it is quoted many times
- 4:56in Scripture and elsewhere that there is no surprise to God.
- 5:00God knows everything. He can anticipate anything.
- 5:03And all that may be true, except for the fact that there are some
- 5:06caveats to that. And that's part of what we're
- 5:08going to get into here. Because in the arena of mortal
- 5:11life, the most important part of our life experience is the
- 5:18ability to choose between good and evil and to pursue good not
- 5:24only because it's the right thing to do, because it's the
- 5:27godly thing to do. Godly does all.
- 5:31God does all things the right way.
- 5:34And the best way is a quote that comes to mind.
- 5:38The best way is always the right way.
- 5:41And so as we celebrate the liberty, the declaration of
- 5:44liberty of this period and of our country, what are we really
- 5:48celebrating? Are we celebrating the liberty
- 5:51to do whatever we want? And that there's no holds barred
- 5:55and there's real no restriction on our moral behavior.
- 6:00Or are we celebrating the liberty from an oppressive
- 6:04government that would would have us through compliance, live a
- 6:08specific kind of life where they would control all, all aspects
- 6:12of it? That, I think is the liberty
- 6:15that we are celebrating. We're, we're celebrating the
- 6:18liberty that comes from being endowed by our creator, the
- 6:24liberty to have moral discernment.
- 6:27And you know, it's interesting because it's been said.
- 6:30And if you haven't heard it before, take this to heart.
- 6:34But our founding fathers recognize that only a moral
- 6:38people could live with freedom. And immoral people cannot really
- 6:44live with freedom because they would be destructive, because
- 6:47they have no moral boundaries. And that's what I think I see
- 6:51more often now. Now, there was a woman,
- 6:55sometimes you'll read them something or hear something on
- 6:58Instagram or something. And this was a woman who seemed
- 7:02pretty level headed. And she said she went to a a
- 7:05Pride parade. We just ended Pride month in the
- 7:07United States and she went to a Pride parade in San Francisco.
- 7:12And she said that she had been to many of them, but this
- 7:15particular one seemed to cross the lines of decency.
- 7:20And she said there was a lot of illicit behavior that she'd
- 7:22never seen before. And there was such enthusiasm
- 7:26and embracement of it. So, you know, you can have a
- 7:29creative imagination and try to think about what she's
- 7:33describing, but it's it's pretty horrific.
- 7:36And that's the danger, I think right now and why I wanted to
- 7:39bring this up as we contemplate the importance of liberty, free
- 7:43will, moral discernment, the right way, the best way, living
- 7:49the godly way, and having true liberty, which is control of
- 7:53self. So let's get into 61 or paper
- 7:5661. And this is an excerpt from the
- 8:01part on a talks about Lucifer and Lucifer's folly and how he
- 8:07embraced the wrong kind of liberty when he sought to
- 8:11disenfranchise himself from God and from Christ.
- 8:16And here's some of the paragraphs.
- 8:18Liberty is suicidal when divorced from material justice,
- 8:22intellectual fairness, social forbearance, moral duty, and
- 8:26spiritual values. Liberty is nonexistent apart
- 8:31from cosmic reality and all personality.
- 8:34Reality is proportional to its divine or divinity
- 8:38relationships. And what does that mean?
- 8:41Well, in one way it expresses that because we're all socially
- 8:44obligated to serve one another, my liberty must coincide with
- 8:48your liberty. We must be fair with each other.
- 8:51We must have intellectual fairness, social forbearance,
- 8:55and moral duty. And it's in these circumstances
- 8:59when we treat each other with the same regard for, for
- 9:02example, the Golden Rule. That's where true liberty is not
- 9:07divorced from material justice, but is connected to material
- 9:11justice, intellectual fairness and social forbearance, moral
- 9:16duty, divine obligations and spiritual values.
- 9:21And true liberty is expressive of these things when it's
- 9:24connected to our divine relationships, our cosmic
- 9:28obligations to be good people, to be good going on.
- 9:33It says unbridled self will and unregulated self-expression
- 9:37equal unmitigated selfishness, the Acme of ungodliness.
- 9:43Liberty without the associated and ever increasing conquest of
- 9:47the self is a figment of egoistic mortal imagination.
- 9:52Self motivated liberty is a conceptual illusion, a cruel
- 9:57deception. License masquerading in the
- 10:00garments of liberty is the forerunner of abject bondage.
- 10:05They're pretty harsh about that. True liberty is the associate of
- 10:09genuine self respect. False liberty is the consort of
- 10:12self admiration. True liberty is the fruit of
- 10:17self-control, False liberty, the assumption of self assertion.
- 10:24self-control leads to altruistic service.
- 10:28Self admiration tends toward the exploitation of others for the
- 10:32selfish aggrandizement of such mistaken individual as is
- 10:36willing to sacrifice righteous attainment for the sake of
- 10:40possessing unjust power over his fellow beings.
- 10:46Even wisdom is divine and safe only when it is cosmic in scope
- 10:51and spiritual in motivation. Lucifer's folly was the attempt
- 10:57to do the non doable to short circuit time in an experiential
- 11:03universe. Lucifer's crime was the
- 11:05attempted creative disenfranchisement of every
- 11:08personality in his domain. And he of course, was a system
- 11:13sovereign, so he governed what was then 600 or so planets just
- 11:18like ours, many of whom fell into rebellion.
- 11:22Many of Lucifer's followers, including the angels and
- 11:26certainly Satan and later Calagastia, had convinced all of
- 11:31these people that the liberty they saw, it was self assertion,
- 11:36not the liberty that was coming from the authority of Michael.
- 11:40He saw that as not freedom, he asserted.
- 11:44Lucifer asserted that true freedom was doing what you want
- 11:48to do, not what others are telling you to do.
- 11:51Does it sound familiar? So it writes that Lucifer's
- 11:56crime was the attempted creative disenfranchisement of every
- 12:00personality, the unrecognized abridgment of the creature's
- 12:04personal participation, free will participation in the long
- 12:10evolutionary struggle to attain the status of light and life
- 12:14both individually and collectively.
- 12:18In doing so, this one time sovereign of your system set the
- 12:21temporal purpose of his own will directly athwart the eternal
- 12:26purposes of God's will as it is revealed in the bestowal of free
- 12:31will upon all personal creatures going back to we are endowed by
- 12:36our Creator. The Lucifer rebellion thus
- 12:40threatened the maximum possible infringement of the free will
- 12:43choice of the Ascenders and the servers of the system of his
- 12:48domain, Satania. A threat for evermore to deprive
- 12:52every one of these beings in the thrilling experience of
- 12:55contributing something personal and unique to the slowly
- 12:59erecting monument of experiential wisdom which will
- 13:02someday exist as the perfected system of Satania.
- 13:06This includes all of the world's coming to that future, a state
- 13:10of light and life where we truly, you know, have our own
- 13:14self-control. Think about the Melchizedeks.
- 13:18They're one of the few orders of sonship that they are completely
- 13:22self regulatory. They do not answer to anyone
- 13:25else save Michael. And why is that?
- 13:28Because they're responsible with their liberty.
- 13:30They're not haphazard. And I would submit that we,
- 13:34because of the urantial revelation, have a way of
- 13:38introducing to people the idea, the notion that this isn't just
- 13:43one world in, in a sea of stars. We are part of a greater
- 13:48reality. We are part of a living system,
- 13:51and we are all endowed by the same creator to have and possess
- 13:57free will. Discernment.
- 13:58That's the secret to progress developing our sense of moral
- 14:02discernment. You know, they say that only a
- 14:05moral person could be morally indignated by seeing an immoral
- 14:10act. But when we get to that point
- 14:12where we're not even bothered by immoral behavior, that's when
- 14:16the danger comes. Sin must be redefined as
- 14:20deliberate disloyalty to deity. There are degrees of loyalty,
- 14:25the partial loyalty of indecision, the divided loyalty
- 14:28of confliction, the dying loyalty of indifference, and the
- 14:32death of loyalty exhibited in the devotion to godless ideals.
- 14:38So that becomes the question and the challenge for modern man.
- 14:41Can he control himself? Can he control his urges, his
- 14:46materialistic tendencies? Can he truly rise to the
- 14:50occasion and live up to the expectations that God gives us
- 14:54by giving us free will and moral discernment?
- 14:59And I guess that would be our lesson for today on the subject
- 15:03of liberty and the different kinds of liberty.
- 15:06And I hope that you got something from it and it gives
- 15:09you something to think about as we all sort of collectively
- 15:11celebrate our independence this week.
- 15:15Hope you'll join me again soon. I've got a great topic.
- 15:18We're going to talk about something quite intriguing in
- 15:21the next episode of the Urantia Radio Podcast.
