Transcript
- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, folks.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the episode of Film Study.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: This is Kendrick Music.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_01]: We have an interesting short for you today that's born of the Weaver-Wire discussion that Eric DeCosta had at the podium on September 2nd.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: He talked about that being 23 players that had been claimed from the Ravens' cuts, but there's only one they'd picked up during the last decade.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: Here to tell us about this is Deion Coleman.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_01]: Now for starters, Deion did all of this work without any prompting of any sorts.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: So she heard the same thing I did, had the same question I think about 23, but Deion take me through your process a little bit.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: So I didn't actually hear the art, the cost, the comment.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: I heard you say it on film study and I was like 23.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: Kids write, that sounds like a lot.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: So I started looking back.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: hand researching all of our, um, all of our cuts over the past five years.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: And then my son walked in and said, uh, you could get a guy to give you a list and then you could just research him at least.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: So then I was able to go back to the 10 years really quickly and just cross reference to make sure that I could find that from NFL sources.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I came up with a list and I figured I have found the 23 a sin to you and you said, your research said the same
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: but we didn't have longer being, longer being hadn't been signed at the time when the cost of made the comment.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: So there you go.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: And there was one more methodology difference that I think was key in this is, it wasn't just waiver claims.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's also guys that were signed that were cut by the ravens to somebody else's practice squad.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: That's how I came up with the number because the waiver claims only came up till about 11 players.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: But when you looked at who was cut during the 53 men roster cut down from the 90,
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: anybody that was cut down between that period.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: I looked at where they went and if they were signed directly to a practice law, all signed to a 53-man roster, that number came up with the total.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: All right, and we had another person on this show recently, and I'm coming up with a blank on it, but he talked about,
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: the Ravens as a source of talent in the NFL had 76 players that originated on their roster.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: They mean they were the first player to sign this player out of school.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: And that was the highest by far on the national football league.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: The next highest was 62.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then you dropped off, if you dropped 14 more, you're down in the 23rd, 24th and 25th in the entire NFL.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: So it's remarkable record the Ravens have of organizational depth.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: I heard that podcast, and that was another thing that sent me on this research, because I was like, that is a really high number.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe the class's number is actually right.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: So that was another thing that triggered me to do the research.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: All right, all right, outstanding.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: One thing I think it'll be fun is, let's take some players from this list.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I have some guys I remember in various levels of fondness from this, or we were kind of weird cases.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: But who would you like to talk about first?
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: Then we'll kind of alter it.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: I would like to talk about the person who I consider to be the best player.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: He had the best career.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think I can say his last name, Matt Orzick.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: OK.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: So he was a long snapper who was around for a long time.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it was.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: And he was on a superbolting.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, was he?
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: Would you play for Green Bay or was it before?
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: Rams, the Rams.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: Rams, OK. Yep.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's a mixed bag.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: Some of these players never really played in the NFL, like they never played in the game.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: They were cut by the team that claimed them that season or the next season.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: But he had a very long career.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: He played in a stupid bowl.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: He played for Jacksonville.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: He won the Super Bowl with the Rams and then he was Green Bay's long snapper.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: He appeared in 101 games.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: That is a really good career.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'll go to another guy on this list, Carl Davis.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: Now, he was a third round pick, let me see this.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: Selected number 90 overall in 2015, play 10 NFL seasons and 78 games.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: six five three hundred twenty pound nose tackle.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: This is part of the thing.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: This nose tackle is not a super small size and shape pool.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: The car Davis is a very big man.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: And it goes to show you that other teams really go to the Ravens practice quite a lot to get defensive line when they have a shortfall there.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: In particular, this year's no different by the way.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: The Ravens have, you know, they cut Benny.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: They had to trade a Koye a because he certainly would have been stabbed up in a moment.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: And they still have
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: uh the uh other Nigerian guy uh now the London guy the London guy is uh number 17 at our 17th guy on a bright discolored.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: I can't think of them.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, La Jiga, the 65th alignment, yeah.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway Carl Davis, a guy who lasted a long time in the NFL didn't retire in fact until after the 2024 season.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, okay, I thought 25 but the 24 sounds about right.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: My next guy, let's see, let's see.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: I had someone else on my list, Donald Payne.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I looked at, I really picked people who had really good careers.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of players that were taken, like I said, that weren't anything in NFL.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: But he was a strong special team's player.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: And he actually played,
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: I can't remember the total number of games, but he played quite a few games and he played across two teams.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so more ended some research to kind of give me some notes for this.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: And she said he played about 30 games with Jacksonville between 2017 and 2019.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: And played 59% of the defensive snaps for the team.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: One year, I think that might be in the games that they're active as she'd got this from where I think she did.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: But that's real value that another team is getting.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: Another player, as you guys may remember, is Bronson Calfousey.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Bronson Calfousey was a round three pick, number 70, from BYU in 2016.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: And they had, I think it was the same draft they got, Camelike Correa in round two.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: So it wasn't a great, you know, day two selection era for the Ravens in that time.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: I lost his rookie season to injury, then he was cut prior to year three after playing three games of the Ravens.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: interesting background for him.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: So I get to every every so often I get contacted by the parents of players and by the way I really appreciate those interactions.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: I like them and often times the reason is they're looking at my preseason articles and it's one of the only sources in like number two and number three players and what they what they've done on the field.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: And so Brotson Kephuse's mother contact me and talked about, you know, this is a really good source of information or whatnot.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: She is the mayor, or was the mayor for two terms of Provo Utah, and she was actually married to a pro player.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know if he just went to camp or not, but he's Steven Kephuse, who went on to be the defensive line coach, it'd be why you.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: So it's just in background there and I will tell you, um, if you're out there now and you're a, uh, a parent of a Raven's fan, please give me a shout out on Twitter.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: My DMs are always open.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love to hear from you.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, and any other details you have about your, uh, your son.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love to hear.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: Um, my next guy is the more recent guy.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, I've rid of for him so hard.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I was sad to lose him because I knew he was going to start developing JAD.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, he actually became a real part
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: of Tennessee's defense last year.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: But then he did exactly what he did here at the Ravens and got put on an injured reserve.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: He has so many injuries, but I knew he was going to break out.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: I just knew he had to just have a long period of health.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: But they made a good call.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: They made a good call letting him go.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: So I haven't heard of J.D.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: is somewhere this year.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: He's playing again for Tennessee or is he elsewhere?
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I was looking he ended the year on injured reserve.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: I did not say if they picked them back up for this year All right, let's take a quick look in that while I do that there's oftentimes in a wiki or something we could figure that out even if we It says he's an American professional football corner back which often means he's not with any team right now, but
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: they don't show them as being released.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's interesting.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder if he's still playing out there.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: Ravens had a real surplus of corner back last year and they had to make a very tough cut with JAD.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: This was the worst ever year for waiver claims against the Ravens.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: JAD, they lost CJ Ravonell all so to the Titans and Bob Raid to the Giants.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: And then they also had Garrett DeLinger who went to the Browns, even though I think the Ravens really wanted to
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: So, very tough year last year in terms of losing talent to the waiver wire.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of Dillinger, I was thinking about him when you talked about longer being the other day, because it really started me to wonder, like, what makes players decide that they don't want to come back to our practice quite?
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we're a quality, you know, we're a quality organization.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: I can kind of understand how I'm going to be, longer being going to the Eagles,
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: But Dilajig went to the Browns like she was confusing to me, because they are a shit show all the time.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, I can't wait for this.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: You're fine.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: You're fine.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: The delinger thing was strange, because he ended up getting cut by the Browns at the end of...
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: Within a couple of weeks I want to say and they said they kind of replaced him and they swapped them out with somebody else and I thought he went somewhere else But but the Ravens apparently wanted him for the practice squad.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think he was the kind of player who might have lasted the whole year But then I might have said that Brian Dawkins not Brian Dawkins Nick Dawkins is a player who the Ravens might have wanted for center depth this year They had him on the practice squad and now they've really only got two guys one of whom is heard in in post sick
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: And they might have wanted to keep him, but then they caught him anyway.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: They got rid of him, they signed an offensive tackle instead.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: So I can't always see behind the curtain as to what the ravens are thinking.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: But I will say this, the ravens don't make stupid decisions.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: So I have come to have a great degree of confidence in what Eric DeCost had done.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they're, you know, it's shown over the years in terms of just how much talent is on other rosters that he's doing the right things.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: Dillinger is actually with Tennessee this year.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, okay, so still around.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about another big name, Ben Mason.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: Now, here's a multi-time cut by the Ravens.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_01]: He was cut after his, be drafted the fifth round in the COVID draft.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: Then he came to the Ravens.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: Didn't look particularly good.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think in camp in that 2021 season.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: And got cut by the Ravens and picked up by the Patriots.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of people had supposed that maybe the Patriots just wanted to be kind of scout the Ravens special teams and do things because there's been a lot of cuts with the Ravens and Bill Bell check over the years that are falling into that and then the Ravens got him back for the next year in 2022 and then they caught him again and I don't know where he ended up but but the Ravens had two shots at him and there's another player by the way, not on this list here that I think might qualify that we probably want to talk about.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'll go to that player right now.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: I thought you were going to that guy.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so the player's genome stone that genome stone is actually cut by the ravens and picked up by the Texans and then Yeah, and then they got it back and and they resigned him to the same contract and they might have caught him again and then resigned him again
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: And then the, uh, anyway, you know, starting ended up having a fine career with the Ravens.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: He's still playing in the NFL now and, uh, it didn't make this list somehow, but, uh, uh, I believe he should be on it.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: And it, that, we might be, it might be still right on the 23 because I was thinking both longer being in Silas Walters might have come after the nine to two date.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: And then we'd still be right on the 23 if that were the case.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: But I think she no stone.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: You know, technically it's in the screw, but I would say you can't really point to Gino Stone as a great 7th round draft pick when you cut him.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: If you cut him you lost the ability That's it that now becomes a you know a claim value or a pickup value, but it's not really draft value anymore The interesting thing about Gino Stone, it was Gino Stone and Tyler Wallace.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: I remember listening to the stories about
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: Um, their cut.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: So Jeno stones that that when he came back, he played with his hair on fire because he felt like he didn't have anything to lose.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: He was like, I already been cut.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't care.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like I have nothing to lose at this point.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: And I remember telling while I was talking about sitting in a parking lot and waiting to see if he got a phone call.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: on cut down day.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: He was like, if I don't, he said, I didn't want to hear anything.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: He was like, I just sat in my car on the parking lot.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: And then when I didn't get a call by six o'clock, I was like, yes, I made the team.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: That's a good one.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: We see that if we go back to hard knocks in 2001, did you watch that right way back when?
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't watch the 2001.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, all right, it's still out there, by the way, if you want to take a look and I encourage other people to look at it on YouTube or whatever you might have access to it on.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_01]: But there was a Wadell, a defensive back for the Ravens who made it.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: And he got the call, I think he got the call in his car also, or maybe heard about it and then he walked out to his car to call his mom.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: And so they have on camera, they have all this, you know, the call with his mom is this heartfelt thing and, you know, I made the team and it's Reggie Wadell, that's the guy.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_01]: And then two or three days later, the Ravens caught up.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: So he's one of the guys who was like, my graded off the roster after the thing abandoned us.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: It was so sad that that first episode of Hardknocks had some fantastic stuff and it was very well done.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I know a lot of them have been well done over the years, but I really appreciated the stuff between Missouri as well.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: I enjoyed this recent Hardknocks and AFC North.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my goodness.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: That was.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: I rewatched it last year when we were having our crappy season.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I can feel better about my life because last year, Ravens had me depressed.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that is, you know, if you want it, that's a great way to to find that because I've talked to the Brown sky recently and in fact, I posted a podcast about a, with a Brown's preview on that, you realize every single problem we're even has a first world problem.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: Now, first-born problems can literally be the most obvious things in the world.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: We throw away our phones because we're dissatisfied.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, this doesn't have the right camera for me, right?
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: You know, this needs to be better.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: Where are those cameras?
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: What are those phones set up?
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: They end up in South Asia.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: They end up in Africa and South America.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: Those people buy our 10 year old and five year old used phones.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: And they're perfectly happy with it.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, our little problem is about the cameras.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: They are first-world problems.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: talking about losing a player at the end of the roster of a quality of say Bob Raid or CJ Ravonella or JAD even.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: You're talking about about, you know, first world problem that you're in a position to lose that talent.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: When Kyle Hamilton said it two years ago that Raven's fans are spoiled, everybody was so offended.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: But the truth is, we are like, I look at other teams and I have to say,
- 16:18[SPEAKER_00]: We are very, we are very passionate and supportive families, but we are also a very entitled families.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a seasoned ticket owner and the things I had people say are my section are crazy.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_00]: And why do you know?
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: Do you know how blessed we are, like, yeah, it is so many ways I agree with that and it's not something I really want to bring up on the show because I always get a lot of backlash for it whenever it happens, but I completely agree with you.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: I, you know, this is fan base, they don't know how we don't know how to manage our own expectations for the team.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's only one team that gets stuck with the Lamberti and people are getting progressively more upset with the fact that Lambert Jackson's career is being wasted.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, in the way it is, we're incredibly lucky to get to watch the Marjax and play football.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's the greatest player in the whole week today and we get to watch him every Sunday and root for him.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe we take something from that instead of that, hey, everybody else around him.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's been everybody else's fault as screwed it up in terms of the Marjax and not winning a Super Bowl.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: I just, first world problem all the way there.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's 31 other teams.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: 31 teams have to lose every year.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: We, they can't come for me because I have no social media.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I can see it for you, can't.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: We're full, there's a fan base.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate you, Dianne.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for coming on for this.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: Kiu Blue Kelly, an interesting case a few years ago, had a good career at Stanford.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: He, he was a centerpiece on a very bad steam for team that he had to take on increased responsibility.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: And it came to the Ravens after being drafted and not impressive college statistics, honestly, give up a lot of yards per target, came to the Ravens and got cut as a fifth round traffic, which is very unusual.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, DeCosta, I believe, said at the time, we wanted him to make the team.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, that'd be our first choice, but then once he got cut, you know, we still hope to pick him up with a practice squad, he did get claimed.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: He's been around the legal little bit since I think he's playing for his third team since he finally had two
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he, um, he, um, noticed respect.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: He was soft and camped though.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I watch all the camp videos and the wires.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like he was kind of soft and camp.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: I knew he wasn't going to make it.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm not, I'm not good with the brush to cut down stuff, but a lot of times I can look and say, he's probably not going to make it because there's too much good competition around him.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: But I liked him as a person.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: He gave really good video.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 18:58[SPEAKER_00]: You remember he had the game.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: He was the one who had developed the game system.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know that.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_01]: I like like a sense sort of programmatic.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's written a program that is interesting.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: I want to know.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: I want to learn more about that.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: He was it's I watched why you can't watch why it was on.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: It was all why you thank you.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: All right, and then I guess we'll finish this off by talking about, you know, two other guys who got cut this year, Robert longer being a very big loss for the Ravens, unfortunately, and when I say that there's a chance he ends up like the other corners on this list and ends up playing about 10 career games and never really does much of anything or he's just a special teamer.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_01]: He's one guy I would think there's a chance he could have a multi your career here.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just a shame it would be at the bottom of a lot of depth charts and then I see Miami and they pick up seven players and I think wife if longer being had gone there maybe he'd have been there third or fourth corner back and kind of think even the problems they seem to have with their roster.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: I'm looking forward to seeing what he does.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_00]: I knew it was going to be a toss up between him and Kone.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_00]: But because Kone went on injured reserve, they kind of made the decision for them.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it did, and they kept us 60 offensive linemen.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_01]: There's a whole bunch of things on the defensive roster, where that very difficult cuts this year, and they had to look forward to next year in terms of keeping some younger players corner and interior defensive line.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: I wish they'd done a better job at that.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_01]: I wish they'd got an extra young player.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: either on the team or maybe on to IR as well.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: It could have two midseason replacements at corner potentially, or maybe another one.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_01]: If it were a racian Benny coming back say in mid year on the defensive line, because I think he'll be lost at some point.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for leaving.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: All right, and the Cory Bullock the last guy we want to talk about a lot of people are upset that Andrew Voorhees made the team ahead of him and I am in a way too.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think that the raves are very thin at center right now and it would be it would help a lot to have a Cory Bullock on this team and I don't think he'd be
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: The gear that he came, that he was drafted.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: I remember him popping the Achilles and doing the most bitch reps. And I was excited.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, we got him in a seven frown.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: This is going to be great.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: And he's a dead, it appears.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: He actually, I guess so mad.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I argued with this, thank you, Ken, because you gave me this.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: He actually, and I, because I researched it, after I heard you say it, he was actually worse than Daniel Fulele.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: B. and Macasan argue about this all the time.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, Philelli just looks horrible because he's just such a giant human being.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: But if you look at the rankings, why he's ranked lower than him?
- 21:55[SPEAKER_00]: And we kept voice, I'm so confused.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, it's it's interesting.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: There's a market for a big man and a hardball took two of the really big ones that have been a little bit disappointing like the ravens in a quay in Falele and then they traded, they already traded away Falelele, yeah, it's exactly the right, yep, yep, so I found out you and he sucked on there, did you look, I looked at the training camp videos because I just been trying to see what how about the hard boys been doing.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, sucked.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: There, the Giants.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I, I really like Daniel Fulele as a person.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like he's just a really soft-spoken guy.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: He was Joe D's guy in my mind.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I think they kept him because of that affection for Joe D. But it felt like Joe D was the only one who could get the best out of him.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he gave him a lot of definitely off-love during his last camp with the Ravens.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: So, Jody was there for just a portion of camp, and he was screaming at Daniel Fawley.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think this was in 24, right, because Warhop then came in at kind of the end of camp or the middle of camp when Jody had to go to the hospital.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: and they made a move just like that.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: And frankly, we're kind of lucky to get Warhop.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: And then obviously, Warhop has moved on and led for this guy now, but I agree.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's just important to be able to mesh with that offensive line coach you work with.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: And each had their guys.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: Warhop had Carson Vincent, as their guy, hopefully, he's gonna pay off from that.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: And led for it has Gwen, and hopefully, the Ravens get a pay off for that.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_01]: The on absolute delight to have you on and talk with you.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks so much.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_01]: Where can people talk football with you if they want to?
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to join the Reddit community.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_00]: And then I will give you information right now up along to no social media, no any thing.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: So, but Reddit has stuck Reddit.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_00]: So I think I'm going to join the Reddit community.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: All right, well, very good.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: The Reddit community, I, I really appreciate by the way that a lot of people as guests on the show coming from that community.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: So I like it a lot and your voice needs to be heard beyond and I want to just point out to people, this is what I'm really impressed by when somebody does a research project because they take the entire universe of events and they boil that down and they, and
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking at the spreadsheet that she created and there's the year and the player and the position and the new team they went to after that and whether or not it was by waiver claim or a practice squad, a practice squad move or sorry, a cut to practice squad move and when it occurred I mean all kinds of great stuff here and that's the way you need to approach problems like this as you just go logically through it and I don't know what your background is professionally but I'd be interested to hear some time if you want to tell me off here you can.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: If that fits in in the same way, if you that kind of a problem is over.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a social worker, but I also am published.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I do research articles in my field.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: So, that's where I get my research chapter.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_01]: Well, very impressive, Dionne.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate you being on other folks out there.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: Please use film study mailbag at gmail.com.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_01]: I want to hear from you.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: We will get to every single question.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_01]: I promise you in one format or another.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_01]: And in particular, if you're like Dionne and you have something you've looked at, you'd like to talk about on on a short episode.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to have much more time for those in season this year with my wife producing the show.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_01]: So it's, that's been a wonderful.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_01]: Boone for me is to have her doing that work, and she seems to be indifitiable in terms of her ability to create new shows.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: Dion, thanks again for coming on.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for having me, Ken.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_00]: You have a great day.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll talk to you next time on Film Study.
