- 0:04Speaker 1: Today is the first day of the rest of our
- 0:07Speaker 1: playoff lives. Let's do this. Four games today. The wildcard
- 0:13Speaker 1: round starts in a very short time from now. We
- 0:17Speaker 1: serve as a pregame show for some. For others, that'll
- 0:19Speaker 1: listen to this later. We'll give you plenty of info
- 0:22Speaker 1: that you need to know about the games going on later. Also,
- 0:25Speaker 1: there are postmortems going on with teams that miss the
- 0:28Speaker 1: playoffs that stand out, so we'll get to some of
- 0:31Speaker 1: that too. Do you guys know the history of The
- 0:34Speaker 1: best of three wildcard round. We've had this 24 times now, series-wise.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Do you know how many sweeps we've had out of
- 0:42Speaker 1: the 24? 17. Eric Kratz looked at the rundown today,
- 0:51Speaker 1: looked at the notes. 17 is correct. All right, so
- 0:55Speaker 1: then Kratz, don't answer this next one. AJ, do you
- 0:58Speaker 1: know how often the game one winner has won the series?
- 1:04Speaker 1: out of 24 times. If you win game one today. 21.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Did you look at the notes?
- 1:16Speaker 2: Are you kidding me, Scott?
- 1:18Speaker 3: Do you understand that Case Keenum whooped the hell out
- 1:21Speaker 3: of the Eagles last night? Do you think I looked
- 1:23Speaker 3: at the rundown today? Do you think that I have
- 1:25Speaker 3: a Chicago Bears hat on today because I looked at
- 1:27Speaker 3: the rundown? No, I have it on because Eric Kratz
- 1:31Speaker 3: tried to show off his fly Eagles fly yesterday at
- 1:33Speaker 3: the end of the show, and then they got ass whooped.
- 1:36Speaker 2: So, no, I didn't look at the rundown. I never
- 1:37Speaker 2: look at the rundown until the show starts. That's no fun.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Then I would have to pay attention, and that's also
- 1:42Speaker 2: no fun. Only thing better than the Bears winning. is
- 1:47Speaker 2: the celebration that I get to say, AJ, who is
- 1:51Speaker 2: a Bears fan, also thought they were going to lose.
- 1:54Speaker 2: So not only was AJ wrong, but I saved myself
- 1:58Speaker 2: and I didn't actually watch any of the game, but
- 2:01Speaker 2: holy score. Did you watch the whole game, AJ, or no?
- 2:04Speaker 2: I watched it until the last second. I had people
- 2:09Speaker 2: texting me like, I shut it off at halftime. And
- 2:12Speaker 2: I thought it was actually close at halftime, but eek.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Eek.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Anyways, now what, Scott?
- 2:19Speaker 3: By the way, yes, in my pick-em league, I picked
- 2:21Speaker 3: the Eagles to win, but then I didn't realize that
- 2:24Speaker 3: Jalen Hurts and the coach likes to say bad words,
- 2:27Speaker 3: a lot of bad words to the other team. I
- 2:29Speaker 3: didn't realize that their coach really liked to call guys
- 2:32Speaker 3: a word you're not really supposed to use on television.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Chicago Cubs? Were they called the Chicago Cubs? Kind of,
- 2:39Speaker 2: something like that. Okay. They called them a white sock? No.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Maybe a– The former catcher for the Cubs, they called
- 2:48Speaker 3: him a name. Anyway, Scott, continue now. 21, was that right?
- 2:54Speaker 2: 21? Was I right?
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah, you were right.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I'm such a good guesser.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Good job. A couple other things to get out of
- 3:02Speaker 1: the way here. Number one, Dirt from the Dugout, Carl
- 3:06Speaker 1: Ravitch's show, has Eric Neander on their episode today. Neander
- 3:10Speaker 1: is the architect of the best team in the American
- 3:14Speaker 1: League this year. the Tampa Bay race who will be chilling,
- 3:18Speaker 1: watching games if they're into that. And then also we
- 3:23Speaker 1: put this poll out there, which wild card series do
- 3:27Speaker 1: you think is going to a game three? Of course
- 3:30Speaker 1: you might think multiple, but the one that is most
- 3:33Speaker 1: likely to go to a game three and we can
- 3:36Speaker 1: show the results. It was a nicely attended poll that
- 3:40Speaker 1: we put out there. Last place was Philly's Braves. At 17.8%.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Then White Sox Astros at 19.6%. Cue AJ saying yes
- 3:51Speaker 1: because he thinks that the White Sox will sweep. Cubs
- 3:55Speaker 1: and Padres at 22.7%. Red Sox Yankees getting a heavy
- 3:59Speaker 1: share of this one. Almost 40% of people polled think
- 4:03Speaker 1: that's the most likely series to go three. Do you
- 4:05Speaker 1: see that?
- 4:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:09Speaker 3: I'm just shocked that this many people think that. the
- 4:11Speaker 3: Braves are going to beat the Phillies so quickly. That's
- 4:14Speaker 3: the one to me that I'm like, and by the way,
- 4:16Speaker 3: the White Sox Astros are about as evenly matched as
- 4:20Speaker 3: you could get. I mean, I don't understand why people
- 4:21Speaker 3: are saying the Astros are going to sweep. Like, I just,
- 4:24Speaker 3: I don't know, maybe.
- 4:25Speaker 1: They only could pick one, and people just really felt
- 4:29Speaker 1: like Yankees, Red Sox was the one that had the
- 4:31Speaker 1: best chance.
- 4:33Speaker 2: That's fair. That's fair. I think. I didn't see that.
- 4:37Speaker 2: I think the Phillies, because they'll have Sanchez on regular
- 4:39Speaker 2: rest for game two. might win like a two one
- 4:43Speaker 2: game in game two. Like that's where I think it
- 4:47Speaker 2: would go three.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Okay. We'll see. Let's get to the Yankees Red Sox
- 4:53Speaker 1: first because they had the most roster news to it.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Aaron judge out. John Carlos Stanton in. Derek crochet in.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yankees Red Sox will be interesting. AJ, we've followed this
- 5:15Speaker 1: storyline for a while. Do you admire Judge saying what
- 5:20Speaker 1: he did, or should he have been a little bit
- 5:23Speaker 1: more reserved publicly? Do you feel as if he needed
- 5:27Speaker 1: to say that so that he could try and get
- 5:29Speaker 1: himself to a good place, even though he was not
- 5:31Speaker 1: going to be ready calf-wise?
- 5:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I thought they would put him on
- 5:36Speaker 2: the roster.
- 5:37Speaker 3: I think I'm more surprised that Stanton is on this
- 5:40Speaker 3: roster than Judges, honestly. Stanton hasn't played in forever. Stanton
- 5:43Speaker 3: basically hasn't played all year. I guess they're going to
- 5:46Speaker 3: use him as a bat off the bench in a
- 5:48Speaker 3: short series, but I think the biggest thing with Aaron
- 5:50Speaker 3: Judge is they couldn't risk him re-hurting, and if they
- 5:52Speaker 3: win this series and he re-hurts it, and you have
- 5:55Speaker 3: to take him off the roster, then you lose him
- 5:57Speaker 3: for the next round. You lose him for the division
- 5:59Speaker 3: series against the Rays, so It doesn't surprise me he's
- 6:02Speaker 3: not on the roster. I think I was more surprised
- 6:04Speaker 3: that Stanton was on the roster. I was like, when
- 6:07Speaker 3: I saw that, I was like, that's like Rowdy Tellez.
- 6:09Speaker 3: I didn't even know Rowdy Tellez was on the Braves.
- 6:11Speaker 3: And I looked down there and I'm like, holy crap,
- 6:12Speaker 3: Rowdy Tellez made the Braves roster?
- 6:14Speaker 2: Good for Rowdy.
- 6:15Speaker 3: So I was just surprised that Stanton was on there.
- 6:17Speaker 3: I mean, again, he had a place since April 24th.
- 6:20Speaker 3: That's a long time to go. I mean, I guess
- 6:22Speaker 3: they're hoping they can put him in there. He'll pinch
- 6:24Speaker 3: hit off one of these lefties for the Red Sox
- 6:25Speaker 3: and hit a homer and can walk around the pillows.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I mean, it might be a world record slowest trot
- 6:32Speaker 2: around the bases if he's not 100% healthy. But I
- 6:35Speaker 2: like that they're like, hey, you know what? He's going
- 6:37Speaker 2: to be an option. He could get three at-bats this
- 6:39Speaker 2: entire series. And, you know, the matchup's favorable. They'll give
- 6:44Speaker 2: him the at-bat. He's obviously been ridiculous in the postseason.
- 6:48Speaker 2: And I don't know. They showed some of those live
- 6:52Speaker 2: at-bats last night from Yankee Stadium where he's facing some
- 6:56Speaker 2: minor leaguers throwing. You hope, if you're the Yankees, that
- 7:01Speaker 2: it's exactly what AJ said. They win, and then Judge
- 7:05Speaker 2: is able to be activated. Because the next series, you
- 7:08Speaker 2: build your rosters differently. Some teams will even build a
- 7:11Speaker 2: third catcher into the roster, and I guess they figure
- 7:14Speaker 2: this series, they can afford to have a pinch hitter
- 7:19Speaker 2: off of the bench. Will G be active every series
- 7:22Speaker 2: if they continue the whole way out? I don't see
- 7:25Speaker 2: it that way, but... That's also assuming that Judge is
- 7:29Speaker 2: coming back because with Stanton always looming on the bench,
- 7:33Speaker 2: it's something that they have to worry about.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a short series. So 10 pitchers, 16 position
- 7:41Speaker 1: players for the 26-man roster for the Yankees.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Yeah, that's how most teams do it in these shorter
- 7:48Speaker 3: series is they load up on bullpen arms because you
- 7:52Speaker 3: don't need a lot of starters and you load up
- 7:53Speaker 3: on bench players because you can do it. There's no–
- 7:56Speaker 3: There's not the restrictions there are in the regular season
- 7:58Speaker 3: where you can only have a certain number of pitchers.
- 7:59Speaker 2: You can do whatever you want with your roster. It'll
- 8:01Speaker 2: change in the next round. You'll see.
- 8:05Speaker 4: This is the call of the Australian rubber bird.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Snap! Snap!
- 8:10Speaker 4: This is the call of the Alaskan chili bird.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Kiki, kiki, kiki, geez, it's cold. Kiki, kiki, kiki, geez,
- 8:16Speaker 2: it's cold. Geez, it's cold.
- 8:17Speaker 4: And this is the call of the marathon mascot bald eagle, Max.
- 8:21Speaker 1: We're going to get into a lot more with the
- 8:24Speaker 1: Yankees and Red Sox when we chat with our hosts.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Of their respective shows that are on the FT network.
- 8:30Speaker 4: But I would like to throw this part into.
- 8:47Speaker 1: We didn't know for sure, AJ, if Garrett Crochet was
- 8:50Speaker 1: going to make the roster. We figured it was going
- 8:52Speaker 1: to be the case. He has the same situation going
- 8:55Speaker 1: just from the pitcher's perspective as Stanton. You mentioned Stanton
- 8:58Speaker 1: hasn't played since April 24th. Garrett Crochet hasn't pitched in
- 9:01Speaker 1: a big league game since April 25th. So he's missed
- 9:05Speaker 1: basically the entire season, half a year of baseball, and
- 9:10Speaker 1: you're going to see him out of the bullpen, which
- 9:11Speaker 1: actually is a familiar role for him.
- 9:14Speaker 3: He did this for the White Sox back in, I think, 2020.
- 9:17Speaker 3: He pitched out of the bullpen in maybe 2021 before
- 9:19Speaker 3: he got injured.
- 9:21Speaker 2: But here's the thing. I think, and Kratz maybe.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Will disagree with me, I'm not really sure, but I
- 9:28Speaker 3: think being a bullpen guy for someone that's done it
- 9:31Speaker 3: before is a much easier thing than Giancarlo Stanton coming
- 9:33Speaker 3: out after not having live at bats since April. I mean,
- 9:37Speaker 3: Crochet can throw bullpens. Crochet can throw simulated games. And
- 9:41Speaker 3: they're not asking him to go five innings. They're going
- 9:42Speaker 3: to bring him in to face Rice, Bellinger, Austin Wells,
- 9:48Speaker 3: like that pocket, they're going to find that pocket of
- 9:50Speaker 3: lefties and that's what he's going to be there for.
- 9:52Speaker 3: So I don't think that this is as big of
- 9:55Speaker 3: a deal as the Giancarlo Stanton, at least for me,
- 9:57Speaker 3: just because Giancarlo Stanton hasn't had a big league of batting.
- 10:00Speaker 2: So long.
- 10:00Speaker 3: As a pitcher, you can go longer, and if he's
- 10:02Speaker 3: only being used in short spurts, he can come out
- 10:05Speaker 3: there and give you an inning. What did Garrett Crochet say?
- 10:07Speaker 3: I'm built different or whatever. What was his quote, his
- 10:09Speaker 3: awesome quote, where he's like, I do special things or
- 10:12Speaker 3: whatever it was.
- 10:12Speaker 2: That was pretty awesome. I'm different than everybody else. I
- 10:16Speaker 2: can do special things. Yeah. It's definitely easier for a pitcher.
- 10:20Speaker 2: They can regulate how the effort level they're putting in.
- 10:23Speaker 2: If you're stepping in as a hitter, it's being dictated
- 10:27Speaker 2: by what you're facing, who you're facing. I have seen
- 10:31Speaker 2: G getting ready for his at-bats, DH-ing in the postseason.
- 10:37Speaker 2: And when Giancarlo's hot, obviously there's nobody else that has
- 10:41Speaker 2: done what he's done in the postseason when he is
- 10:45Speaker 2: ridiculously hot. When he's cold... Doesn't matter if he's getting
- 10:49Speaker 2: four at-bats or one at-bat. He feels like he's lost
- 10:53Speaker 2: at the plate, but he has a good approach. He's
- 10:55Speaker 2: able to put on the machine whatever he's facing. Remember,
- 10:59Speaker 2: there's a little bit of an advantage for the Yankees
- 11:02Speaker 2: because of the fact that they're at home. They have
- 11:04Speaker 2: their traject all fired up at home. The Red Sox
- 11:08Speaker 2: don't have that. So if you're a pinch hitter coming
- 11:10Speaker 2: off the bench for the Red Sox, maybe there's a
- 11:12Speaker 2: little bit less of an advantage. If G's on the roster,
- 11:16Speaker 2: he's ready to go, and I think he'll give you
- 11:18Speaker 2: good at-bats. But the pitcher always has the advantage. If
- 11:21Speaker 2: it's equal to equal, the pitcher has the advantage in
- 11:24Speaker 2: this situation. I thought they traveled with those trajects. I
- 11:27Speaker 2: thought they figured out a way to travel with them.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Am I wrong in that? I haven't heard that. I
- 11:31Speaker 2: haven't heard that they're traveling. I thought they figured out
- 11:33Speaker 2: a way to travel with them. I haven't heard that,
- 11:38Speaker 2: but I'll... And they travel with everything else. They do
- 11:42Speaker 2: travel with everything else, but that thing is like... It's
- 11:44Speaker 2: on tracks. It's on sliders. I haven't heard they're traveling,
- 11:49Speaker 2: but let me reach out and see.
- 11:52Speaker 1: I don't think so. I don't think so yet, or
- 11:55Speaker 1: at least not the full version. The whole story last
- 11:57Speaker 1: year was how the Red Sox didn't have that in
- 12:00Speaker 1: terms of seeing the variety of fastballs from Cam Schlittler
- 12:04Speaker 1: who owned them. And then apparently down in st petersburg
- 12:09Speaker 1: the other day they were just practicing all night all
- 12:13Speaker 1: night on uh or all day on the traject against
- 12:16Speaker 1: schlittler down there before they flew.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Up how'd they get it there how'd they get it
- 12:21Speaker 2: there scott.
- 12:21Speaker 1: They used theirs they used theirs oh so the.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Rays let them use their traject that's interesting well it's.
- 12:26Speaker 1: A home game for the red socks this past weekend
- 12:29Speaker 1: they should get the home.
- 12:30Speaker 2: It's interesting that the rays would let them use their
- 12:32Speaker 2: machine they know They know the Rays passcode? Didn't somebody
- 12:37Speaker 2: from the Astros go to jail for that?
- 12:41Speaker 1: Cardinals, I think. Cardinals.
- 12:43Speaker 2: He used to work for the Astros. Then he worked
- 12:46Speaker 2: with the Cardinals. Yeah, yeah. I don't think it was
- 12:50Speaker 2: a hack job. I think that they allowed him to
- 12:53Speaker 2: use it. The Rays passcode is 1-2-3-4-5. It's Rays way.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Rays way. Rays way, exclamation point. Do it the Rays way.
- 13:04Speaker 1: It's don't trade with us.
- 13:07Speaker 2: We're the best. You're the worst.
- 13:10Speaker 1: But it is true.
- 13:11Speaker 2: They did do that. Bucket hat. Bucket hat.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Bucket hat.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Eric Neander was on dirt from the dugout. That's right.
- 13:19Speaker 2: So it all comes back around.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Hey, this news just came in before the show started.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Joe Musgrove is on the wildcard roster for the Padres.
- 13:28Speaker 1: That's the shocker roster move of the postseason so far.
- 13:32Speaker 1: And all the credit to him.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Him and Rowdy.
- 13:36Speaker 1: This one's even more, I mean, it's not random, but.
- 13:41Speaker 2: We ain't heard anything about him in like years, I
- 13:43Speaker 2: feel like.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Do you know the last time he pitched, he had
- 13:48Speaker 1: an elbow injury during the 2024 wild card series.
- 13:54Speaker 2: It feels like forever. It has been forever.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Two years ago in a big league game.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Does another game count? No. Rowdy had 10 at-bats this year.
- 14:07Speaker 2: I mean, both of them are definitely who you didn't
- 14:09Speaker 2: have on your active roster.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Joe Mosgrove, kids out there, Joe Mosgrove used to be
- 14:16Speaker 1: a really good pitcher and actually pretty durable. Kids, if
- 14:20Speaker 1: you want to know more about him, look him up.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Yeah, he was really good for a while there, doing no-hitter.
- 14:26Speaker 3: First no-hitter in Padres history. He was pretty good. They
- 14:28Speaker 3: were talking about him being their one for a long time.
- 14:32Speaker 1: He was a bulldog. Wasn't it him with the Buck
- 14:35Speaker 1: Showalter thing with the Mets?
- 14:38Speaker 2: Yeah, remember his ears? They were talking about his ears.
- 14:41Speaker 2: We've got to ask Buck about that. Remember his ears
- 14:43Speaker 2: were red, so Buck made him check his ears? Oh,
- 14:44Speaker 2: his shiny ears. Remember that? He had shiny ears. Yes.
- 14:48Speaker 2: That was awesome. Was that Buck? Yes.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Yes.
- 14:52Speaker 2: We got to ask Buck about that next time he's on.
- 14:53Speaker 1: It was definitely Buck.
- 14:57Speaker 2: What? 2023 Buck. Buck will definitely call me after the
- 14:59Speaker 2: next one and be like, why'd you ask me about that?
- 15:01Speaker 2: But it's, it's, it's amazing. Nothing's more fun than getting
- 15:05Speaker 2: a phone call from Buck Showalter.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Oh, it's fun. That's why we bring it onto the show,
- 15:11Speaker 1: but that's a shocker. Padres trying to load up what
- 15:15Speaker 1: they've got with their pitching staff and adding somebody who
- 15:18Speaker 1: could be an interesting bullpen piece to an already very
- 15:21Speaker 1: good bullpen against the Cubs.
- 15:24Speaker 2: I love a buck. I got a buck phone call
- 15:26Speaker 2: in the playoffs last year.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Nostrovato, Joey Votto, put out some predictions. He said Braves
- 15:37Speaker 1: over Philly, Padres over Cubs, White Sox to sweep the Astros.
- 15:41Speaker 1: That's the one sweep he has. And then he has
- 15:43Speaker 1: the rest as game threes. He has the Red Sox
- 15:46Speaker 1: beating the Yankees.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Okay, so Joey Votto and I finally agree on something.
- 15:53Speaker 1: You guys disagree lately, don't you?
- 15:56Speaker 3: I mean, he said he would hit 240 in his
- 16:00Speaker 3: career if he played in today's game.
- 16:02Speaker 2: So, I mean, what do you want me to say?
- 16:05Speaker 1: Because he would take more walks?
- 16:07Speaker 3: No, he said if 300 hitters back 10 years ago
- 16:12Speaker 3: would hit 240. So, Joey Votto would be a 240 hitter.
- 16:14Speaker 3: That would be amazing to see. I'd love to see
- 16:17Speaker 3: him prove that right.
- 16:19Speaker 2: I would, believe me, from somebody that hit well below 240, no.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Joey Votto would figure out to hit exactly. I think
- 16:27Speaker 2: every era of player figures out exactly what to do
- 16:31Speaker 2: in a different era. You just, you figure it out.
- 16:34Speaker 2: You're either good or not. What's that? You're either good
- 16:39Speaker 2: or not. I mean, I'm sorry. You're good or not.
- 16:42Speaker 2: If you're good, you'll figure it out. If you're not good,
- 16:43Speaker 2: you won't figure it out. It's pretty easy. There would
- 16:46Speaker 2: be adjustments. He wouldn't have to face dudes that could
- 16:49Speaker 2: actually locate. He's just facing dudes that just throw hard,
- 16:52Speaker 2: and he would just be like, bip. Think of how
- 16:54Speaker 2: many walks he could take. Oh, my gosh.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Joey Votto would be so happy. He'd just be like,
- 17:00Speaker 3: I can never have to swing. I can just walk.
- 17:01Speaker 3: I'll have 1,000 on base, and I can just stand
- 17:03Speaker 3: here and never swing.
- 17:05Speaker 1: And that's why he might have hit a little bit lower.
- 17:07Speaker 2: With the batting average.
- 17:08Speaker 3: That's why he might have hit 240 because he never swings.
- 17:12Speaker 3: A guy threw three strikes before four balls, he'd be like, oh,
- 17:15Speaker 3: darn it.
- 17:16Speaker 1: You know, one interesting theme of this postseason in the
- 17:20Speaker 1: next round will be how the Brewers and the Rays look,
- 17:24Speaker 1: two teams that definitely have the contact thing going on.
- 17:27Speaker 1: And I know sometimes that can get overplayed, but it
- 17:30Speaker 1: worked for the Blue Jays. And then any time a
- 17:32Speaker 1: contact team does too well, you're like, well, they have
- 17:33Speaker 1: slug too. Well, the Brewers don't.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Brewers don't as much, but Brewers are, they're advantageous with
- 17:42Speaker 2: their slug. They'll have guys that can pop a couple.
- 17:45Speaker 2: The Brewers thing, they will strike out way more than
- 17:48Speaker 2: the Rays do and way less than the worst teams.
- 17:52Speaker 2: They take the ball to the opposite field. The best
- 17:54Speaker 2: of any team in the game. Can they elevate it
- 17:58Speaker 2: to the opposite field? That's where they're going to score
- 18:01Speaker 2: runs in the postseason. I think that plays, so it'll
- 18:04Speaker 2: be interesting. They're not just like, oh, you know, the
- 18:05Speaker 2: Rays strike out the least of anybody because they're just
- 18:08Speaker 2: put it in play and go. But the Brewers... Yeah,
- 18:14Speaker 2: I like the Brewers lineup.
- 18:15Speaker 4: I do.
- 18:16Speaker 2: That's why I picked them.
- 18:18Speaker 1: All right, here we go. Let's talk about tickets. Seat Geek,
- 18:23Speaker 1: but that means let's talk about matchups. There's four today.
- 18:27Speaker 1: There's four tomorrow, as in Wednesday. And then we don't
- 18:30Speaker 1: know how many for Thursday. But what we do know
- 18:33Speaker 1: is if your team ends up playing in a game
- 18:35Speaker 1: three and you wake up that morning like, damn, I
- 18:37Speaker 1: got to be there. Seat Geek is the spot for you.
- 18:40Speaker 1: To me, I just keep going back, AJ, to... San Diego,
- 18:44Speaker 1: I mean, it's such a fun place to watch a game.
- 18:47Speaker 1: They don't have anything else there in terms of pro
- 18:51Speaker 1: teams for the four major sports. So this is everything
- 18:55Speaker 1: to fans out there. And they were able to create
- 18:58Speaker 1: a party and shift the culture there. For a while,
- 19:02Speaker 1: it was like more of a chill scene at Petco.
- 19:05Speaker 1: And then it became more of like an in-your-face rager.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Chill dog. Chill dog.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I can't today. Penelope is awful.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Awful maybe you could get her a ticket to bark
- 19:17Speaker 3: at the park in san diego scott maybe they do
- 19:20Speaker 3: that maybe i'll bark at the park not in the
- 19:21Speaker 3: playoffs well i would love i would love to go
- 19:24Speaker 3: to san diego the problem is my playoff series starts
- 19:26Speaker 3: in milwaukee so then i have to fly florida to
- 19:28Speaker 3: san diego back you know so yes as much as
- 19:30Speaker 3: i agree with you i think that's great but i
- 19:33Speaker 3: mean if i got one shot and it's a game
- 19:34Speaker 3: three i mean sorry red sox yankees that's just that's
- 19:37Speaker 3: that's the one in yankee stadium Suarez against who is it?
- 19:42Speaker 3: Who's game three? Cole or Freed?
- 19:46Speaker 2: I forgot. Game three. Game three. Game three. I think
- 19:49Speaker 2: game three. is Cole I think okay so you got.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Cole versus Ranger Suarez I mean in Yankee Stadium Ranger
- 19:55Speaker 3: with his playoff history Garrett Cole with his history how
- 19:58Speaker 3: could you say no to that I mean that'd be
- 20:00Speaker 3: the one that I would have a hard time saying
- 20:02Speaker 3: no to.
- 20:03Speaker 2: I want to see Hunter Brown with his back up
- 20:05Speaker 2: against the wall because I feel like I know it's
- 20:07Speaker 2: game two But I feel like the White Sox win
- 20:10Speaker 2: the first game. Go get your tickets for Hunter Brown.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Clawing and fighting for his life. For his team's life
- 20:17Speaker 2: to push it to a game three. I know we
- 20:20Speaker 2: were talking about game threes. But I'm also trying to
- 20:23Speaker 2: check to make sure I got that right on the
- 20:26Speaker 2: Yankees projected starter. Yeah. It's Sonny Gray versus Freed. So
- 20:31Speaker 2: you get in the Bronx. You get Garrett Cole versus
- 20:35Speaker 2: Ranger Suarez who... Look up his numbers. Think most metrics
- 20:41Speaker 2: would consider him the most dominant left-handed starting pitcher in
- 20:44Speaker 2: the playoffs.
- 20:47Speaker 1: It's going to be good, people. Buckle up. Territory 10, 10%
- 20:51Speaker 1: off your next set of tickets at SeatGeek. Could be baseball.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Could be something else if you're in a city where
- 20:56Speaker 1: your team was not good enough this year. There's concerts.
- 20:59Speaker 1: There's other sports.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Go take a look. Go watch the Bears play the
- 21:02Speaker 2: Jets next weekend. Oh, wow.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Yeah, you could.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Sorry, producer lady.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Go ahead, Kratz. Read this one out and let us
- 21:15Speaker 1: get your thoughts after it.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Anthony Kastrovitz. Nice. The first season of the ABS in
- 21:23Speaker 2: Major League Baseball, 54% of challenges were successful. Catchers on
- 21:27Speaker 2: defense were successful. Shocker. 59% of the time. Twins challenged
- 21:33Speaker 2: most and were right 54.7% of the time. And the
- 21:37Speaker 2: Cardinals challenged the least and were right 49% of the time.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Does that mean the Cardinals were the worst at 49%?
- 21:43Speaker 2: Or they just challenged the least? I really don't know.
- 21:50Speaker 2: I don't know, but is this not what we thought? Basically,
- 21:53Speaker 2: that's a, because these are all 50-50 balls in essence.
- 21:58Speaker 2: These are 50-50 balls that Hopefully it goes your way.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Hopefully it doesn't. Yes, there's some egregious misses, which we
- 22:04Speaker 2: get right. But those get thrown out in the wash.
- 22:09Speaker 2: So essentially we're improving the game by 7.9% from the
- 22:14Speaker 2: catching position is what I read out of that. Catchers
- 22:17Speaker 2: are the best, shocker.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Yeah, when you say they're 50-50, I mean, when you
- 22:22Speaker 3: get to the 10th of an inch, I mean, come on.
- 22:24Speaker 3: That literally is a coin flip. I mean, you're literally like, okay.
- 22:29Speaker 3: I mean, nobody's that good. They're like, oh, it's a 10.
- 22:31Speaker 3: And how many times do you see catchers or hitters?
- 22:33Speaker 3: They'll just challenge and they're like, I don't really know.
- 22:36Speaker 2: I love that.
- 22:37Speaker 3: And then it like nicks a lace on the screen
- 22:40Speaker 3: and the crowd goes crazy because they're like, look how
- 22:42Speaker 3: smart our catcher is.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Right?
- 22:44Speaker 3: Or the hitter does it and the visiting team gets
- 22:49Speaker 3: it wrong and they go, yeah, look how dumb you are, Mr.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Visitor Guy. I mean, it literally is a coin flip.
- 22:55Speaker 2: The worst decisions I've seen in the ABS throughout the
- 22:58Speaker 2: entire year have all been emotional. A call goes one
- 23:02Speaker 2: way for somebody, and then right away the next one, oh,
- 23:06Speaker 2: I want to check too, and the whole ball's in
- 23:09Speaker 2: the zone. If guys keep their emotions in check, which
- 23:14Speaker 2: it's hard to do in a big spot, they usually
- 23:18Speaker 2: do a good job of like, ah, you know what,
- 23:20Speaker 2: that was just by a, you know, 0.1 of an inch.
- 23:25Speaker 2: It's not even a tenth of an inch, is it?
- 23:26Speaker 2: It's like less than that, but.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I'm so excited for what this is going to add
- 23:33Speaker 1: another wrinkle to the postseason. There's going to be a
- 23:35Speaker 1: couple of things. They might not happen right away or
- 23:37Speaker 1: might not even happen in this postseason, but there will
- 23:39Speaker 1: be a game that essentially is decided by a challenge.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Now you can say, oh, well, this team should have
- 23:45Speaker 1: had the lead earlier or whatever, but like there could
- 23:47Speaker 1: be a call that decides the postseason or someone might
- 23:49Speaker 1: run out of challenges and brewers on the record is
- 24:04Speaker 1: powered by mlb nine innings 26 oh we got a
- 24:07Speaker 1: lot of people on the screen right now derek levandowski
- 24:10Speaker 1: representing pinstripe territory talking yanks and monster territories robbie hyde
- 24:14Speaker 1: so derek i'll kick it to you first and robbie
- 24:17Speaker 1: you can answer this one after i mean the headliner
- 24:20Speaker 1: has to be Aaron Judge, not in for this series.
- 24:23Speaker 1: What does the offense look like against the string of
- 24:26Speaker 1: lefties from the Red Sox?
- 24:28Speaker 2: Go.
- 24:30Speaker 5: Well, obviously you're missing a big bat. It's tough to
- 24:32Speaker 5: lose the three-time MVP, but we got some lefties that
- 24:37Speaker 5: hit lefties. Spencer Jones hits lefties pretty well. Cody Bellinger
- 24:41Speaker 5: hits lefties pretty well. And then you have some righties
- 24:44Speaker 5: who also swing the bat well against lefties. Paul Goldschmidt
- 24:48Speaker 5: is going to have to step up in this series.
- 24:51Speaker 5: You know, maybe some of the young guys like George
- 24:54Speaker 5: Lombard Jr. as a right-handed bat is going to have
- 24:55Speaker 5: to step up. Bottom line is, Judge isn't here. He's
- 24:58Speaker 5: not walking through the door in this series. So the
- 25:00Speaker 5: Yankees are going to have to figure out a way,
- 25:01Speaker 5: going to have to lean on the pitching like they
- 25:03Speaker 5: did all season long.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Derek, were you surprised that Stanton was on the roster
- 25:10Speaker 3: instead of Judge? Because that was the big surprise for me.
- 25:13Speaker 3: As far as the Yankees goes, I was like, whoa,
- 25:15Speaker 3: Stanton's on but Judge isn't? Was that a big surprise
- 25:18Speaker 3: to you or just because they hope he can run
- 25:19Speaker 3: into one in like the eighth inning? Ninth inning against Chapman.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Chapman versus Stanton. Game on the line. Let's hope he
- 25:26Speaker 2: can walk around the bases. It was astonishing.
- 25:28Speaker 5: I'm astonished because he hasn't played since April 24th. I
- 25:31Speaker 5: thought he was dead. But he can't run. He can't
- 25:35Speaker 5: play the outfield. But you're hoping he can get that
- 25:38Speaker 5: one big swing. He'll present a threat in a pinch
- 25:41Speaker 5: hit situation. He's not going to be DHing. He's not
- 25:44Speaker 5: going to get four at bats. But if you have
- 25:47Speaker 5: a situation, let's say sixth or seventh inning, and you
- 25:51Speaker 5: got Austin Wells coming up against a lefty, and maybe
- 25:53Speaker 5: you got first and second one out, or maybe bases loaded,
- 25:57Speaker 5: nobody out. Yeah, I think you pull the pin on
- 25:59Speaker 5: that Giancarlo grenade and hope that he comes through, and
- 26:03Speaker 5: then you pinch run for him. I mean, they're going
- 26:05Speaker 5: for one at bat here and hoping that he gets
- 26:07Speaker 5: a big hit, and he has burned the Red Sox
- 26:09Speaker 5: in the past. So we'll see how it shakes out,
- 26:12Speaker 5: but I'm interested to see what we're going to get
- 26:13Speaker 5: from Big G. Look good on the sides.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Robbie, there's no way you can sit here and listen
- 26:18Speaker 2: to what Derek is saying and say, Oh, we're so
- 26:22Speaker 2: afraid of John Carlos Stanton because five years ago in Fenway,
- 26:26Speaker 2: he hit some big home runs against us in the
- 26:30Speaker 2: wild card series. Or am I, am I reading that incorrectly? Well,
- 26:34Speaker 2: here's the thing with me. I'm one of the few
- 26:37Speaker 2: Red Sox fans. I would say that I have a
- 26:40Speaker 2: lot of respect for the Yankees.
- 26:41Speaker 6: We've been through all the battles, all the wars going
- 26:43Speaker 6: back how many years now. And I know how good
- 26:46Speaker 6: this Yankees team can be, even if they're missing. a
- 26:49Speaker 6: guy or two. So there's still a lot of good
- 26:51Speaker 6: quality bats in this line of Ben Rice. You just
- 26:53Speaker 6: hit over 40 home runs, right? You know, Cody Bellinger,
- 26:55Speaker 6: Luis Garcia has been great since coming over jazz. He's
- 26:58Speaker 6: capable of doing things with the bat, with the legs.
- 27:01Speaker 6: So even with no judge, I'm not taking this Yankee
- 27:05Speaker 6: lineup lightly at all. So that's where I'm looking for
- 27:08Speaker 6: guys like Peyton, totally to really try and set the
- 27:10Speaker 6: tone here in Yankee stadium here in game one.
- 27:13Speaker 2: And then I'm even looking.
- 27:14Speaker 6: At someone like Eric Miller who, you know, in the
- 27:16Speaker 6: middle to late innings as well that could possibly shut
- 27:18Speaker 6: down some of these lefties. And you could say the
- 27:21Speaker 6: biggest X factor possibly of this entire postseason, Garrett Crochet,
- 27:25Speaker 6: who looked amazing in game one at Yankee Stadium last year.
- 27:28Speaker 6: So the lefties for the Red Sox are going to
- 27:31Speaker 6: have to really step up and make these ABs uncomfortable
- 27:35Speaker 6: against these lefty bats.
- 27:36Speaker 2: So again, I'm not taking these Yankees lightly. All right, Robbie,
- 27:40Speaker 2: is this how you would have set your rotation? Because
- 27:43Speaker 2: they had all the time in the world to set it.
- 27:45Speaker 2: You watch this Red Sox team, these starting pitchers throw.
- 27:48Speaker 2: I get it, the left on left. You want Ranger
- 27:50Speaker 2: and Toley. Is this how you would have set your
- 27:53Speaker 2: starting rotation to face and beat the Yankees?
- 27:56Speaker 6: I'm going to give you like a bit of like a,
- 27:58Speaker 6: I'm sorry, a boring on the fence kind of an answer,
- 28:01Speaker 6: but I can see both sides of the argument where
- 28:03Speaker 6: Sonny Gray, 18 wins to the Red Sox this year.
- 28:06Speaker 6: He's been a great pickup, right? I'd say he's the
- 28:08Speaker 6: leader of the rotation. So yeah, I see an argument
- 28:10Speaker 6: for going with him, but then I also see the
- 28:12Speaker 6: power stuff from Tully, a guy that also, I'd say
- 28:16Speaker 6: an underrated factor with him, a guy that really runs
- 28:18Speaker 6: on adrenaline. When this guy gets ramped up, amped up,
- 28:22Speaker 6: You've seen what he can do. You go back to
- 28:24Speaker 6: the immaculate inning just a little bit ago. Go back
- 28:26Speaker 6: to the first start of his season against the Yankees
- 28:29Speaker 6: where he struck out 11. The guy was just all
- 28:32Speaker 6: revved up for that game. So I like the power
- 28:37Speaker 6: stuff going up against the lefties, but I also like
- 28:39Speaker 6: that mental factor as well.
- 28:41Speaker 2: A guy that.
- 28:42Speaker 6: I don't know if you saw the report here today.
- 28:44Speaker 6: He loves listening to Shawn Michaels' theme song, Sexy Boy,
- 28:48Speaker 6: as he's getting ready for his starts. And I think
- 28:50Speaker 6: he's going to be feeling it going into Yankee Stadium.
- 28:52Speaker 6: The guy just loves to have fun. He's a good dude.
- 28:56Speaker 2: I'm excited to see what he can do. All right.
- 28:58Speaker 2: I got to ask both of you guys.
- 29:00Speaker 3: Are you guys the people on social media that's hitting
- 29:03Speaker 3: Cam Schlittler up left and right on everything that Which
- 29:05Speaker 3: one of y'all is the one? Is it Derek trying
- 29:07Speaker 3: to get him motivated, right? Oh, okay, it's Derek trying
- 29:11Speaker 3: to get him motivated. Okay, I was going to say
- 29:12Speaker 3: because it could not be. It could be, you know,
- 29:15Speaker 3: a Red Sox fan down there in the corner just
- 29:18Speaker 3: trying to say, like, I'm a fake Yankee fan on
- 29:20Speaker 3: my burner, Cam.
- 29:21Speaker 2: You suck. You know, da-da-da-da-da. You know, where are we
- 29:25Speaker 2: at here? Derek, I'll let you go.
- 29:29Speaker 5: I don't think I'm on Cam Schlittler's radar, and I
- 29:33Speaker 5: don't think I would have anything to say to amp
- 29:35Speaker 5: him up. I think that he's got all the motivation
- 29:37Speaker 5: he needs.
- 29:38Speaker 2: I mean, you know.
- 29:40Speaker 5: He remembers what he did last year in the, in
- 29:42Speaker 5: the wild card series against Boston and obviously the great
- 29:46Speaker 5: season he's had, he's been elevated to the ace of
- 29:49Speaker 5: the staff, getting the ball in game one. And in
- 29:53Speaker 5: the post season, the team that wins game one typically
- 29:56Speaker 5: goes on to win the series. Didn't happen last year
- 29:58Speaker 5: for the red Sox.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 29:59Speaker 5: Robbie, but I think Cam has all the motivation he
- 30:03Speaker 5: needs just in the fact that, you know, he's got
- 30:06Speaker 5: a chance to give his team a huge advantage.
- 30:09Speaker 6: You know, for me, you know, it's always entertaining, you know,
- 30:13Speaker 6: hearing all this stuff and whatever. But for me personally,
- 30:15Speaker 6: it always comes down to what happens on the field. AJ, Eric,
- 30:19Speaker 6: I think you would agree, right? At some point, you
- 30:20Speaker 6: got to play some baseball. And Cam Schlittler has, he
- 30:24Speaker 6: has massacred the Red Sox going back to last postseason.
- 30:27Speaker 6: They have had so much trouble against them. That's where
- 30:30Speaker 6: I'm looking for a few guys to step up against him.
- 30:32Speaker 6: He's going to be really tough to hit, but I'm
- 30:34Speaker 6: looking for this Roman Anthony versus Cam Schlittler matchup.
- 30:38Speaker 5: Roman Anthony, when it comes.
- 30:40Speaker 6: To high velo, he does very well over 95 miles
- 30:43Speaker 6: an hour. He's got a really good slash line hitting 255,
- 30:47Speaker 6: 386 on base, 532 slugging, three homers, a couple of
- 30:50Speaker 6: doubles as well. against Velo, 95 and above, and even
- 30:54Speaker 6: higher against 97 and above. The guy's got an 1,800 OPS.
- 30:58Speaker 6: So that, to me, is a big matchup for this
- 31:01Speaker 6: game one here. And I'm looking for guys like Caleb Durbin,
- 31:04Speaker 6: Adley Rutschman. They've homered off of Cam Schlittler as well.
- 31:08Speaker 6: So it's a different lineup compared to last year. You
- 31:12Speaker 6: got more to work with here if you're Cam Schlittler.
- 31:15Speaker 2: So I'm excited to see it.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Robby, you know damn well if he goes out there
- 31:19Speaker 3: and shoves, all you mass holes are going to flood
- 31:20Speaker 3: his DMs with freaking comments.
- 31:23Speaker 2: So let's be honest here.
- 31:24Speaker 3: I mean, if he goes out and shoves again, you
- 31:26Speaker 3: guys are going to be like, we thought you were
- 31:27Speaker 3: a Red Sox fan, you liar.
- 31:30Speaker 2: So, I mean, it's okay. We understand.
- 31:32Speaker 6: I'll let the Section 10 guys take care of that.
- 31:35Speaker 5: They're always on top of that stuff.
- 31:36Speaker 2: And vice versa.
- 31:37Speaker 3: If he doesn't pitch well, Derek and his boys are
- 31:40Speaker 3: going to be like, we knew deep down you were
- 31:41Speaker 3: a Red Sox fan, you traitor.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Absolutely. Absolutely.
- 31:47Speaker 3: Yes absolutely is there another matchup y'all are looking forward
- 31:51Speaker 3: to because i mean i think the pitching matchup in
- 31:54Speaker 3: this whole series is the probably the best one on
- 31:57Speaker 3: paper when you look at the the names on both
- 31:59Speaker 3: teams and who's pitching and and how good they all
- 32:02Speaker 3: are not i mean in their careers i mean totally
- 32:04Speaker 3: young and slow is young but how good they've been
- 32:07Speaker 3: is this not the most exciting pitching matchup i mean
- 32:09Speaker 3: it's better than the astros in the White Sox who
- 32:11Speaker 3: are starting openers, right? Like you look at these names
- 32:13Speaker 3: and you're like, I know these names. I know they're good.
- 32:16Speaker 3: I know they've been good. They're going to be good.
- 32:18Speaker 3: This is what I tune in to watch is starting
- 32:20Speaker 3: pitching matches versus great lineups.
- 32:23Speaker 5: Well, if you look at, you know, how Peyton Tolley
- 32:27Speaker 5: and Sonny Gray have thrown against the Yankees, the odds
- 32:30Speaker 5: are that it's going to be a low scoring game
- 32:32Speaker 5: when you combine, you know, how cancelers typically thrown against
- 32:34Speaker 5: the Red Sox. So we're not looking for a ton
- 32:36Speaker 5: of offense tonight. This is one of those games where
- 32:38Speaker 5: you got to win with pitching and defense, you know,
- 32:41Speaker 5: Both sides have got to, you know, manufacture runs and
- 32:44Speaker 5: so on. And as far as matchups throughout the league,
- 32:47Speaker 5: I'm sure there's going to be a lot of good ones.
- 32:48Speaker 5: There always are any postseason. But I'm also looking for
- 32:51Speaker 5: those internal, like, pitcher-hitter matchups. I want to see, you know,
- 32:55Speaker 5: Spencer Jones against Sonny Gray. You know, low ball hitter
- 32:57Speaker 5: against the sinker from Sonny Gray. I want to see
- 33:00Speaker 5: Garrett Crochet pitching against John Carlos Stanton in a big
- 33:03Speaker 5: spot with the bases loaded. Like, that's what baseball is
- 33:06Speaker 5: all about. I can't wait.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree.
- 33:10Speaker 6: I love me a good pitching matchup, totally versus Schlittler.
- 33:12Speaker 6: That's absolute cinema, if you ask me. But I'm also looking,
- 33:17Speaker 6: like what Derek said as well, some hitter-pitcher matchups. And
- 33:20Speaker 6: one guy who I wonder could be a bit of
- 33:22Speaker 6: an X-factor was a midseason pickup for the Red Sox
- 33:25Speaker 6: in Jamai Jones. This guy's been hitting, not just hitting,
- 33:28Speaker 6: crushing the lefties since coming over with the Red Sox
- 33:31Speaker 6: against lefties, right around a 200 WRC plus and 1,100 OPS.
- 33:36Speaker 6: So I'm looking for Jamai Jones. against Max Freed, Brent
- 33:40Speaker 6: Hedrick as well, possibly late inning pink shit appearance. I
- 33:42Speaker 6: really think, like always with the Red Sox and Yankees,
- 33:46Speaker 6: it's going to be a chess matchup. You're going to
- 33:47Speaker 6: see Chad Tracy trying to push buttons, Aaron Boone trying
- 33:51Speaker 6: to push buttons. I think you're going to see a
- 33:52Speaker 6: lot of those matchups late in game that could end
- 33:54Speaker 6: up deciding the series.
- 33:56Speaker 2: That's where my question leads. We talk all about the
- 33:59Speaker 2: starting pitching, and it's definitely the best starting pitching throughout
- 34:02Speaker 2: the entire series of any of the series that we have.
- 34:06Speaker 2: My question is, Where does Chad Tracy go? Does he say,
- 34:10Speaker 2: I know I trusted you till the fifth inning, Peyton Tolley,
- 34:13Speaker 2: during the regular season, and I know you have the energy, blah, blah, blah.
- 34:17Speaker 2: He's got a really good bullpen. How quick does he, boop,
- 34:21Speaker 2: hit the panic button and go for it as a
- 34:24Speaker 2: first-year manager?
- 34:26Speaker 6: He's had a really good feel when it comes to
- 34:28Speaker 6: the bullpen. I think he notices when guys are starting
- 34:32Speaker 6: to wear down pretty early on. He's had a pretty
- 34:35Speaker 6: good tendency of that. So I wouldn't be surprised at
- 34:38Speaker 6: all if he, you know, if Tully's kind of laboring
- 34:41Speaker 6: a little bit in the fifth inning, you know, could
- 34:42Speaker 6: you go possibly Brian Bale in there somewhere?
- 34:45Speaker 2: Or, you know, could you even go possibly even Garrett Crochet?
- 34:49Speaker 6: I'm very intrigued about Garrett Crochet in this series when
- 34:53Speaker 6: He puts him in. Could you see him in the
- 34:54Speaker 6: middle innings to kind of bridge the gap? Could you
- 34:56Speaker 6: see him doing like a bit of a Chris Sale
- 34:59Speaker 6: from 2018, right, to close out a game possibly? You know, Chapman,
- 35:03Speaker 6: if he has to go to Chapman a little sooner.
- 35:05Speaker 6: Very intrigued about how he uses the bullpen.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Wait, Brian Baio? You think Brian Baio is going to
- 35:12Speaker 2: be the answer out of the Red Sox vaunted bullpen?
- 35:16Speaker 6: Brian Baio this year, if you go look at the numbers, man,
- 35:19Speaker 6: as a reliever, he's been one of the top relievers.
- 35:22Speaker 6: Very strong emphasis on the quotations there. But he's been
- 35:26Speaker 6: really good as a reliever this year. I think he's
- 35:29Speaker 6: earned that trust. And I guess the Yankees, minus a
- 35:32Speaker 6: couple of bumps, he's looked really good against the Yankees
- 35:35Speaker 6: in his career. So I wonder if you could see
- 35:37Speaker 6: him at some point, depending on how close the game is,
- 35:39Speaker 6: of course.
- 35:42Speaker 2: By the way, Derek, You said the Yankees are relying
- 35:46Speaker 2: on their defense. I know, I know. I mean, you
- 35:51Speaker 2: got to tighten up.
- 35:53Speaker 5: I mean, you got to tighten up. But good thing
- 35:55Speaker 5: we have a strikeout pitcher on the hill tonight. And,
- 35:59Speaker 5: you know, when Max Reed is in there in this
- 36:02Speaker 5: series tomorrow, you know, you get McMahon over there at
- 36:04Speaker 5: third base picking it. George Lombard, he had a little
- 36:07Speaker 5: spell of not being great on defense, but I mostly
- 36:09Speaker 5: trust him out there. Jazz has been above average defensively
- 36:13Speaker 5: this year. The issue where we could run into some problems,
- 36:16Speaker 5: Spencer Jones has not been good in the outfield. Elliot
- 36:20Speaker 5: Ramos has been a butcher in the outfield. And at
- 36:23Speaker 5: first base, there might be a situation where Ben Rice
- 36:25Speaker 5: is playing ahead of Luis Garcia Jr. And Garcia Jr.
- 36:29Speaker 5: is the better defensive option. So the Yankees are going
- 36:31Speaker 5: to have to summon from somewhere the ability to play
- 36:34Speaker 5: fundamental baseball. But It's going to be like it was
- 36:37Speaker 5: all season. They're going to have to get great pitching
- 36:40Speaker 5: and hit a clutch home run. That's kind of the
- 36:42Speaker 5: formula for the Yankees, and that's what they're going to
- 36:45Speaker 5: have to go with in the playoffs.
- 36:47Speaker 2: You've been right and you've been wrong on some evaluations, Derek,
- 36:50Speaker 2: of Yankees prospects, so I won't even go Yankees prospects
- 36:54Speaker 2: if they lose here. My question is, if they lose
- 36:57Speaker 2: in this first round, do you feel like this is
- 37:00Speaker 2: the end of the line for Aaron Boone?
- 37:04Speaker 5: No, because if you look at what happened this year
- 37:07Speaker 5: with the injuries and judge being out most of the
- 37:09Speaker 5: season to IL trips for Max freed. John Carlos Stanton
- 37:14Speaker 5: has been played in five months. This is not the
- 37:17Speaker 5: team that the Yankees expected. And yet still they won
- 37:20Speaker 5: 93 games. And I think Boone will get a lot
- 37:23Speaker 5: of credit for that. What I think you might see
- 37:26Speaker 5: is some fundamental changes on the roster before next season.
- 37:31Speaker 5: If there is a next season, I think you'll probably
- 37:33Speaker 5: see them shore up third base with a better bat.
- 37:37Speaker 5: You might see them upgrade the catcher position. You didn't
- 37:39Speaker 5: get a lot of offense out of Austin Wells this year.
- 37:43Speaker 5: But I don't see them letting Aaron Boone go. He's
- 37:47Speaker 5: a favorite in that organization. And quite frankly, he navigated
- 37:50Speaker 5: the waters quite well this year.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Wow. I never thought I'd hear Derek Lewandowski say that
- 37:56Speaker 2: about Aaron Boone.
- 37:56Speaker 3: I would have thought he would have said that about
- 37:58Speaker 3: Jason Dominguez, but never Aaron Boone.
- 38:00Speaker 2: So, Robbie.
- 38:01Speaker 5: Look, I would– I'll admit I was wrong on Jason Dominguez.
- 38:05Speaker 5: He has not worked at it.
- 38:07Speaker 2: You too. But you were right on Ben Rice. You
- 38:11Speaker 2: were spot on with Ben Rice. Yes, yes, true.
- 38:14Speaker 3: Robbie, are you worried that Chad Tracy, this is his
- 38:17Speaker 3: first playoffs, I know he's been great since he's been there,
- 38:19Speaker 3: that something could happen where Chad Tracy could make a
- 38:21Speaker 3: mistake and cost the Red Sox possibly a game or
- 38:24Speaker 3: two in these playoffs?
- 38:26Speaker 5: I mean, you know, we're all human, right?
- 38:28Speaker 6: I'm definitely open to, you know, something possibly happening, but
- 38:32Speaker 6: where I can, you know, see him being okay is
- 38:36Speaker 6: he's had a good relationship with these guys, right? A
- 38:38Speaker 6: lot of the guys that, you know, came up through Worcester,
- 38:40Speaker 6: he was there. So he has a good feel for
- 38:42Speaker 6: all these guys. And I trust that he's going to
- 38:46Speaker 6: push more good buttons than bad. I could see maybe
- 38:52Speaker 6: one that maybe didn't work out quite so well.
- 38:55Speaker 1: So.
- 38:56Speaker 2: Okay, that's fair. That's fair.
- 38:58Speaker 3: All right, last thing before I let you go. I'm
- 39:00Speaker 3: going to let Robbie go first because the Red Sox
- 39:02Speaker 3: are the underdogs. Give me why the Red Sox win.
- 39:05Speaker 3: Because I know if I say who you're going to pick,
- 39:07Speaker 3: Robbie's going to pick the Red Sox. Obviously, Derek's going
- 39:09Speaker 3: to pick the Yankees. So give me one reason that
- 39:12Speaker 3: we haven't talked about why the Red Sox win. And then, Derek,
- 39:15Speaker 3: you follow and do the same.
- 39:17Speaker 6: I really think this lineup is just different from what
- 39:20Speaker 6: it was last year, right? You know, Cam Schiller just
- 39:22Speaker 6: held his way. against the Red Sox, that entire star,
- 39:26Speaker 6: eight innings, what was it, 10, 11 strikeouts, 12, felt
- 39:28Speaker 6: like 25, But, um, this lineup I think is just
- 39:32Speaker 6: better than what it was last year, right? You didn't
- 39:34Speaker 6: have Roman. The guy was absolute cinema after getting called up.
- 39:38Speaker 6: And then he went down with the oblique and now
- 39:41Speaker 6: you have him this time, right? You got Adley Ruckman.
- 39:43Speaker 6: Who's been hot As of late, Caleb Durbin, you know,
- 39:46Speaker 6: turning his season around. You know, I wouldn't say quite
- 39:48Speaker 6: at the level of an Alex Bregman, but I think
- 39:50Speaker 6: he's done a great job. And like I said earlier,
- 39:52Speaker 6: he has Homer.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Off of Schlittler. So I feel like they're better prepared
- 39:56Speaker 2: this time around. And they were also using that.
- 40:00Speaker 6: Traject machine over at Tropicana with the Cam Schlittler setting.
- 40:04Speaker 6: So I feel like they're going to be a bit
- 40:05Speaker 6: more prepared against him this time around. And, you know,
- 40:09Speaker 6: I trust some of these righty hitters. I haven't even
- 40:11Speaker 6: mentioned Wilson Contreras had the hand thing. a little bit ago,
- 40:14Speaker 6: got hit on the hand, but I'm expecting him, you know,
- 40:17Speaker 6: being revved up for the series against Max Freed. He's
- 40:19Speaker 6: a good fastball hitter. If Freed leaves a meatball over
- 40:22Speaker 6: the plate, like Derek likes to say, I could see
- 40:25Speaker 6: Wilson possibly doing some damage. I just think this lineup
- 40:29Speaker 6: is more prepared for this series and you have more
- 40:32Speaker 6: than Garrett Crochet compared to last year.
- 40:35Speaker 2: So I'm excited about it.
- 40:37Speaker 5: Well, I don't think any traject machine can simulate cam
- 40:42Speaker 5: schlittler's fu plus metric i think that that's like a
- 40:46Speaker 5: whole different setting uh i you know i think he's
- 40:50Speaker 5: uh he's gonna be a big reason they win this
- 40:51Speaker 5: series if he pitches well tonight also you know the
- 40:55Speaker 5: young talent the energy they're bringing guys like spencer jones
- 40:58Speaker 5: and and george lombard these are guys who are not
- 41:01Speaker 5: only playing in their first postseason game in yankee stadium
- 41:05Speaker 5: the first postseason game ever but they've got that kind
- 41:08Speaker 5: of like youthful speed and energy and athleticism that, you know,
- 41:12Speaker 5: sometimes these young players will rise to the occasion. And,
- 41:17Speaker 5: you know, I just want to say before we get
- 41:18Speaker 5: too far, you know, Robbie approached me last year about
- 41:23Speaker 5: starting a daily post game show because I was doing
- 41:25Speaker 5: one on pinstripe territory. And before that, NYY recast, I
- 41:29Speaker 5: just wanted to say, he's done a great job all
- 41:31Speaker 5: year long with these post game shows. You should definitely watch.
- 41:34Speaker 5: subscribe to him. It's just a shame that he only
- 41:36Speaker 5: has two more post games left this year.
- 41:41Speaker 1: I was waiting for the kicker.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Some sort of punch line there. Yeah.
- 41:47Speaker 6: If it ends up being just a couple more, you
- 41:49Speaker 6: know what, I'm going to go down swinging. You know, we're, we're,
- 41:51Speaker 6: we're going to, we're going to give it a fight here.
- 41:53Speaker 6: I'm excited for it's red Sox Yankees. It's always the best.
- 41:56Speaker 6: And I will say, you know, out of all the
- 42:00Speaker 6: series in this postseason, not just because it's Red Sox-Yankees,
- 42:03Speaker 6: I think this has the potential to be the most
- 42:05Speaker 6: exciting series because of so many different factors that are
- 42:08Speaker 6: coming into play, right? Great pitching on both sides, guys
- 42:11Speaker 6: that can do damage in the lineup, and so many
- 42:14Speaker 6: different factors like, you know, late inning pink shit appearances, right?
- 42:17Speaker 6: I'm very excited about it. As always, it's a chess match,
- 42:21Speaker 6: and it's going to be fun. Joe Kelly and Tyler Austin.
- 42:26Speaker 1: And also.
- 42:26Speaker 2: And Zimmer and Pedro.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a three-game series that could end up deciding
- 42:31Speaker 1: which team represents the American League in the World Series.
- 42:34Speaker 1: No one would be surprised if the Red Sox or
- 42:35Speaker 1: the Yankees end up in that spot. It's no offense
- 42:37Speaker 1: to the Rays. It's just that these teams should be
- 42:39Speaker 1: just as much of a threat. So, Derek, Robbie, appreciate
- 42:42Speaker 1: you guys. Good luck. And we will see you on
- 42:45Speaker 1: your postgame shows after your game.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Thank you, guys. Later, guys.
- 42:49Speaker 1: Thank you, Derek on Pinstripe. And make sure you check
- 42:52Speaker 1: out Robbie on Monster Territory postgame after each of these. Hey,
- 42:57Speaker 1: game-changing swings, momentum-shifting pitches. Trout at the plate, Kershaw on
- 43:01Speaker 1: the mound. The new generation of fireballers led by Paul
- 43:03Speaker 1: Skeens and company. Prove your stats. Experience perfect contact and
- 43:06Speaker 1: clutch moments like never before in MLB 9 innings 26.
- 43:09Speaker 1: If you're hanging, you've got a little downtime between games,
- 43:12Speaker 1: go to your phone's app store today and download the
- 43:14Speaker 1: game and watch this.
- 43:17Speaker 2: He's ready now. The pitch. Swing and strikeout. Number one
- 43:22Speaker 2: for Kershaw. Hey! Can you keep it down? Some of
- 43:31Speaker 2: us are still trying to work. Sorry, Mike. Our bad.
- 43:57Speaker 1: All right, let us slap hands for the last minute
- 44:00Speaker 1: here of the show on the TV side. Then we'll
- 44:02Speaker 1: continue for a few minutes on YouTube. We are going
- 44:04Speaker 1: to continue on YouTube later on today, too. The Foul
- 44:09Speaker 1: Territory postgame show begins after White Sox-Astros. So we'll talk
- 44:14Speaker 1: about what happened in that one. We'll also recap the
- 44:16Speaker 1: Phillies and the Braves, which is happening right now. So
- 44:19Speaker 1: you'll get a little bit of recapping after those two.
- 44:22Speaker 1: There are other postgame show options for you later on.
- 44:25Speaker 1: Of course, the Red Sox and the Yankees. We had
- 44:27Speaker 1: Robbie and Derek. They both will be on after that. Eventually,
- 44:30Speaker 1: you'll get an episode from Northside Territory. The Padres show
- 44:34Speaker 1: might do a little postgame action. It's called Friar Territory.
- 44:37Speaker 1: We will have Cubs-Padres postgame on Wednesday night after that one.
- 44:43Speaker 1: That's with Ryan Spilborg joining me. Who's on with me later?
- 44:47Speaker 1: I mean, I know I have Mr.– more commie shirt.
- 44:51Speaker 2: All right.
- 44:51Speaker 1: So I've just got Mr. Either really happy or sad.
- 44:54Speaker 3: I'm on, I'm on today with you.
- 44:57Speaker 1: No, I know you, but I'm saying, I mean, you're
- 45:01Speaker 1: going to be emotional either way.
- 45:04Speaker 2: Mr. Happy or sad. I shoot it straight. I do
- 45:07Speaker 2: not favor one team or the other Scott.
- 45:11Speaker 1: Well, that's my first question here. And then I want
- 45:13Speaker 1: to get to this award before we tell everyone you
- 45:16Speaker 1: can keep it going. If you're chilling and, And you're
- 45:18Speaker 1: waiting for your respective team to play Baseball America Hot
- 45:21Speaker 1: Sheet coming up in a couple minutes on their channel. AJ,
- 45:25Speaker 1: if the Astros blow out the White Sox today, how
- 45:28Speaker 1: are you going to feel in the postgame show? Are
- 45:29Speaker 1: you going to be able to deliver the goods the
- 45:32Speaker 1: way that you do?
- 45:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it's almost better because then I'll just be pissed.
- 45:36Speaker 3: I'll be like Kratz was last night when the Eagles,
- 45:38Speaker 3: when Jalen Hurts, you know, couldn't throw a pass.
- 45:43Speaker 2: So you're saying I like the Eagles as much as
- 45:45Speaker 2: you like the White Sox? No, I'm saying we'll react
- 45:48Speaker 2: the same way.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Hey, I'm wearing a Sox machine shirt today.
- 45:52Speaker 2: Yes, you are.
- 45:53Speaker 5: Yeah, we know.
- 45:55Speaker 3: Kratz picked the Astros. Kratz picked the White Sox, but
- 45:59Speaker 3: he has an Astros hat on. It doesn't make any sense. God,
- 46:03Speaker 3: make it make sense, God.
- 46:05Speaker 2: I loved the troll. I mean, your reaction when Caden
- 46:08Speaker 2: wore that Your Don Alvarez shirt yesterday. Notice who didn't
- 46:12Speaker 2: show up today. Notice who did not show up today
- 46:14Speaker 2: for work. He might be in a– we need a
- 46:18Speaker 2: proof of life. I mean, that is like– that's bold.
- 46:21Speaker 2: You don't walk into another man's territory with another– with
- 46:24Speaker 2: the opposing team's shirt on. Like, and he checked out
- 46:27Speaker 2: your cars in your garage. Seriously, not in the playoffs.
- 46:31Speaker 1: There's a territory for everyone out there, okay? There's a
- 46:35Speaker 1: territory for everyone out there. If there's one thing you've
- 46:38Speaker 1: learned over the past few years, we have like 32 shows,
- 46:40Speaker 1: 25 dedicated to teams. So the coverage here is going
- 46:44Speaker 1: to be plentiful. Also for tomorrow's show, the afternoon show,
- 46:47Speaker 1: it'll be the players only edition as AJ will select
- 46:51Speaker 1: a part of the world or even of the atmosphere
- 46:54Speaker 1: that I'll be in. Vegas has been an option. I
- 46:56Speaker 1: won't be on Alex Cora's African Safari that he was using,
- 47:00Speaker 1: but it'll be Kevin Pillar and AJ Krasinski.
- 47:03Speaker 3: I talked, I talked, I talked to AC yesterday after
- 47:07Speaker 3: the show and I gave him some recommendations.
- 47:09Speaker 2: On where to go. And he said, yeah, he did
- 47:12Speaker 2: have a great point.
- 47:13Speaker 3: He said, if a team really wants to hire me,
- 47:15Speaker 3: won't they pay for my, pay me back for my Safari?
- 47:18Speaker 2: And I was like, maybe, maybe. Yeah.
- 47:20Speaker 1: In terms of the contract, the contract will be able
- 47:23Speaker 1: to pay for many Safaris on their way out.
- 47:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:27Speaker 2: It's Safari. It's Safari incentive for them. Yes.
- 47:30Speaker 1: That's, that's in the contract. Minor league, Player of the
- 47:33Speaker 1: Year from Baseball America. Wanted to congratulate Andrew Fisher, who
- 47:38Speaker 1: was just a home run machine. More home runs than
- 47:42Speaker 1: any minor leaguer since Ron Kittle hit 50 for Edmonton
- 47:46Speaker 1: in 1982. What an incredible season for him.
- 47:50Speaker 2: He had 17 doubles. 48 homers and 17 doubles. What
- 47:56Speaker 2: an incredible season. That's a lot of doubles machine. Not
- 48:00Speaker 2: a doubles machine. He is not.
- 48:02Speaker 1: Brewers need power in the future. They've got a guy.
- 48:10Speaker 1: And inside the BetMGM app, also, basically the entire week,
- 48:13Speaker 1: you're going to have odds boost token options. So make
- 48:16Speaker 1: sure you check that out. It's your way to score
- 48:18Speaker 1: a bigger payout, and they're loading them up there. So
- 48:21Speaker 1: make sure you check out your account. You might have
