- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Almost Famous podcast with iHeartRadio.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Welcome everybody to Almost Famous Ogs.
- 0:07Speaker 1: It's Trista.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Bob is playing in a pebble beach Carmel without me
- 0:12Speaker 2: at a golf tournament, which I'm having major fomo about.
- 0:15Speaker 2: But the only thing making it better is that Christy
- 0:18Speaker 2: Carlson Romano is here as my co host to talk
- 0:22Speaker 2: all the Special Forces recap and tee and all the things.
- 0:26Speaker 1: How are you?
- 0:28Speaker 3: How are you?
- 0:31Speaker 1: I'm good.
- 0:32Speaker 2: But when I was texting you last night, so a
- 0:36Speaker 2: little a little background, I was watching the show, of course,
- 0:40Speaker 2: and all of a sudden, like three quarters of the
- 0:45Speaker 2: way through, almost three quarters of the way through, the
- 0:48Speaker 2: plane and helicopter crash happened, which, oh my gosh, it
- 0:53Speaker 2: is such a horrible story, like I so awful. I
- 0:59Speaker 2: just I just can imagine and think about it.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Our first episode was the fires, and the fire coverage
- 1:09Speaker 1: on the West coast got cut out due to fires.
- 1:12Speaker 1: So it's been a really wild I mean, just these
- 1:14Speaker 1: few weeks. January has still not ended. I just want
- 1:18Speaker 1: to point that out.
- 1:19Speaker 3: I want it to be done.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Yeah, we need to move on, Lordie.
- 1:24Speaker 2: We've had enough drama in chaos for the whole year,
- 1:29Speaker 2: so yes, So I got cut off and I didn't
- 1:33Speaker 2: get to watch it, and so I waited until this morning, yeah,
- 1:36Speaker 2: for it to come out on Hulu. I text you
- 1:38Speaker 2: and I'm like, I'm so proud of you.
- 1:41Speaker 1: You made it.
- 1:42Speaker 2: And then like two seconds later on the show, she
- 1:45Speaker 2: gets her arm bandfold, so I'm like, I'm she and
- 1:49Speaker 2: you didn't respond to me, and I was like, oh crap,
- 1:52Speaker 2: what's happening. And you're usually so good about it, and
- 1:55Speaker 2: I was like, oh no, did I say something wrong?
- 1:57Speaker 2: And then I saw the show this morning and I
- 1:59Speaker 2: was like, well, hello, I totally said, well, you should
- 2:03Speaker 2: be so proud, and then it was like the moment
- 2:06Speaker 2: that you got pulled from the show. So I'm so
- 2:09Speaker 2: sorry that I was clearly obtuse and just an idiot.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I honestly thought, because you are so supportive that you
- 2:17Speaker 1: had seen it and you were already just being like, hey,
- 2:19Speaker 1: you made it that far and just to be proud,
- 2:22Speaker 1: because I don't think that the sentiment changes. And it's
- 2:26Speaker 1: been a really kind of very introspective twelve hours I think,
- 2:30Speaker 1: from you know, it hasn't probably even been twelve hours.
- 2:34Speaker 1: My daughter in the middle of the night got a
- 2:38Speaker 1: fever because flu's going around right now.
- 2:40Speaker 4: No.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Ryan's been sick for like a week.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And I think a hundred kids were out at the
- 2:47Speaker 1: school yesterday because of flu. Oh that's a lot of kids.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Watch out for that.
- 2:56Speaker 1: It's the January flu. Let's just call it back. Yeah,
- 2:58Speaker 1: since this is this is what's happening. But she's she'll
- 3:02Speaker 1: be okay. It was just it's funny how I've seen
- 3:04Speaker 1: this meme or you know, funny reels that us moms
- 3:08Speaker 1: they send each other. I should start sending you some
- 3:10Speaker 1: to I'm yes, please, okay, good you're you're on the
- 3:13Speaker 1: short list now. But you know, we send send each
- 3:17Speaker 1: other stuff. And one of the funny things is when
- 3:19Speaker 1: you're having an emotional breakdown as a mom, but then
- 3:22Speaker 1: you stop because your child comes in and asks you
- 3:24Speaker 1: to open a bag of snacks. I'll send you that one.
- 3:29Speaker 3: So that's how it felt last night.
- 3:31Speaker 1: That's how it felt last night when I was like,
- 3:33Speaker 1: you know, like a little emo or whatever, and then
- 3:36Speaker 1: like my daughter comes in and she's like, you know,
- 3:38Speaker 1: it's it's about four in the morning, and uh, we
- 3:42Speaker 1: wake up at six or so, you know, to get
- 3:44Speaker 1: ready for school, and there's something in you that just
- 3:47Speaker 1: hones in on, Okay, this is what my life is,
- 3:51Speaker 1: you know, like the reality and the purpose and and
- 3:55Speaker 1: and and it's it's it's a it's a service. You
- 3:58Speaker 1: know that moms have. We we activate and we take
- 4:01Speaker 1: care of our babies. So I think that that kind
- 4:05Speaker 1: of delayed any more grieving that I've had, you know,
- 4:08Speaker 1: on trying to think about what went down. So I'm
- 4:11Speaker 1: actually curious how you I mean, if do you want
- 4:14Speaker 1: to how we how do you do this? On your pod?
- 4:15Speaker 1: You go from the beginning of a show.
- 4:17Speaker 2: From the from the beginning, but since you're here, like,
- 4:20Speaker 2: I want to know about how you're feeling to start
- 4:24Speaker 2: and and I will say, I mean, even though I
- 4:28Speaker 2: was only there for two days, you put it perfectly grieving,
- 4:31Speaker 2: Like I feel like you're grieving. You're not, Like my
- 4:37Speaker 2: decision was my decision. They obviously pulled your armband so
- 4:41Speaker 2: that it was very different. But tell me what you're grieving,
- 4:45Speaker 2: because if people normally think of grieving as a loss
- 4:50Speaker 2: or a death or you know, something like that, but
- 4:54Speaker 2: I feel like it's very similar. And I feel like
- 4:59Speaker 2: I've kind of gone through through the stages of grief
- 5:02Speaker 2: in a way like being you know, at Pea, I
- 5:05Speaker 2: was at peace to start. Maybe I went backwards. Maybe
- 5:07Speaker 2: I went through it backwards and then I was like
- 5:12Speaker 2: I got home and I'm like, wait, what did I
- 5:14Speaker 2: just do?
- 5:14Speaker 1: Kyla felt the same way, and Kyla spoiler alert, was
- 5:18Speaker 1: also eliminated, although she quit so I felt like she
- 5:20Speaker 1: had a very similar thing to you Trista, where you know,
- 5:23Speaker 1: she was this tiny girl and she had made it
- 5:26Speaker 1: so far. She actually, and I don't want to speak
- 5:29Speaker 1: for her, but she's very vocal about this. She kind
- 5:32Speaker 1: of wanted to quit that morning, but kind of got
- 5:35Speaker 1: rushed into the morning events of like get your pack,
- 5:38Speaker 1: get your this gate, and she was trying to find
- 5:40Speaker 1: a time to make it happen. She said she even
- 5:42Speaker 1: went to the rock like you did, and Q was
- 5:46Speaker 1: like we're busy, like go away, So it wasn't the
- 5:51Speaker 1: right time and then she essentially was just like I
- 5:54Speaker 1: gotta go.
- 5:55Speaker 3: She was trying, but then she's like no. And when
- 5:57Speaker 3: we went.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Through it the night before, right, yeah, you know, I
- 6:01Speaker 1: think they were really thinking one of us would break,
- 6:04Speaker 1: and clearly they didn't know that the Disney girls are
- 6:09Speaker 1: you know, we're pretty resilient Mickey Mouse, Like, you know,
- 6:14Speaker 1: we're tough, like that gang gang. But she's so great though,
- 6:19Speaker 1: because we also have a sense of humor, which I
- 6:21Speaker 1: think really brought you through the pain and your hypothermia
- 6:26Speaker 1: to still feel so good about your experience. And then
- 6:28Speaker 1: you know, her and I then had been making jokes
- 6:31Speaker 1: and trying to keep it light. And you know, this
- 6:33Speaker 1: is the episode that you see just how real this
- 6:36Speaker 1: show gets, just how serious the show actually is. For
- 6:43Speaker 1: like the next you know, this episode in the next
- 6:45Speaker 1: episode is even more serious.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy. So tell me your thought process and
- 6:53Speaker 2: on why you think it's grieving and what you're grieving.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Absolutely, I will sometimes your audience is gonna have to
- 6:59Speaker 1: bear with your co host today because I do talk
- 7:02Speaker 1: around topics. Maybe they're nice though, maybe you have really
- 7:06Speaker 1: sweet and patient because they are they must because they
- 7:09Speaker 1: know you and they love you, so you have to
- 7:11Speaker 1: love me and listen.
- 7:14Speaker 2: We're if even if we had like a script of
- 7:17Speaker 2: what we're going to talk about, it does not have
- 7:19Speaker 2: to go by the script. That's the beauty of our podcast.
- 7:21Speaker 2: That's the beauty of most most podcasts. But for now, like, yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 2: let's we're just chatting. We're just chatting, chat.
- 7:28Speaker 1: All right, So I I you're right, it's very hard
- 7:31Speaker 1: to put a word to what a contestant on the
- 7:34Speaker 1: show experience is after and I think that that's why
- 7:37Speaker 1: production allows for you to have mental health access afterwards.
- 7:42Speaker 1: They've checked in with us periodically, and I've commended Fox
- 7:46Speaker 1: as well as Minno to sort of allocate the budget
- 7:49Speaker 1: to make sure that we're all good and that they
- 7:53Speaker 1: don't have to really, I don't feel like they have
- 7:55Speaker 1: to do that, and certainly and other sets I've been in,
- 7:59Speaker 1: they they haven't thought that way. So it's kind of like, well,
- 8:02Speaker 1: this is a nice surprise that I have access to
- 8:05Speaker 1: this for the first time. That being said, I mean
- 8:08Speaker 1: the therapist wasn't really there. I think there was a
- 8:11Speaker 1: couple therapists that would watch us around the clock, right, Trisa, yep.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Yeah, Because when you finish your exit interview, when you
- 8:18Speaker 2: leave the show, you do an exit interview on camera,
- 8:21Speaker 2: and then you go and you talk to the psychologist
- 8:23Speaker 2: and you make sure that everything's okay if there's anything
- 8:26Speaker 2: you want to share. And when I was doing my
- 8:28Speaker 2: exit interview with the psychologist, I was sitting at her desk,
- 8:32Speaker 2: and she had like she had a whole all the
- 8:36Speaker 2: cameras were on, so she was watching what was happening.
- 8:41Speaker 1: She had like a bunch of them shows a bunch
- 8:44Speaker 1: of times. Yeah, totally.
- 8:45Speaker 2: She was watching everything happened and listening to everything that
- 8:50Speaker 2: we were saying, not just to the DS but everything
- 8:53Speaker 2: that was recorded, so they know the psychologists are totally
- 8:57Speaker 2: tuned in to what's happening on the show in real time.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Of course, of course, and I think even just for
- 9:03Speaker 1: liability's sake, that makes a ton of sense. But then
- 9:06Speaker 1: the after care element of the show, I do think
- 9:09Speaker 1: is it. I actually think I will because I have
- 9:12Speaker 1: access to it, just reach out to the lady, because
- 9:14Speaker 1: why not, Like therapy is expensive and if I can
- 9:17Speaker 1: get some free therapy, Like I'm a good it, I'm got.
- 9:19Speaker 2: To go call.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I'm going to give you.
- 9:21Speaker 2: I'm going to give you one one little bit of
- 9:26Speaker 2: a learning lesson that I've learned from this, and that
- 9:29Speaker 2: is yes, one hundred percent, talk to the psychologist. But
- 9:34Speaker 2: after I interviewed Rudy and Billy, I was like, everyone
- 9:38Speaker 2: needs to talk to them to get some kind of closure.
- 9:42Speaker 2: So I don't know if there's a way that you
- 9:44Speaker 2: can reach out. I know Rudy is great, I know
- 9:46Speaker 2: you have your You've talked to Q, like, yeah, I
- 9:50Speaker 2: feel like just call them up honestly or DM them
- 9:54Speaker 2: and say, hey, could we have a conversation that's just
- 9:57Speaker 2: you know, me to you and meet all the cast,
- 10:01Speaker 2: like I feel like they need to build that into
- 10:03Speaker 2: the show is for all of us to like, each
- 10:07Speaker 2: person should have like a debriefing or whatever you want
- 10:10Speaker 2: to call it after you're finished with the show and
- 10:13Speaker 2: just connect with them, because it really, truly it felt
- 10:17Speaker 2: like closure to me. I don't know. It was amazing.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I love that. That's beautiful.
- 10:22Speaker 2: I love that.
- 10:23Speaker 1: And each of us had the person that came down
- 10:26Speaker 1: on us the hardest. For me, it happened to be
- 10:27Speaker 1: Billy and years was cute. And I know that you
- 10:30Speaker 1: guys connected on the pod in another episode which you
- 10:34Speaker 1: should go you should go listen to if you haven't
- 10:35Speaker 1: heard it. Thanks Kirstie. Yeah, and it must have been.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I wonder how it was Bob there when you talked
- 10:43Speaker 1: to Q, and was that cathartic.
- 10:45Speaker 2: It was very cathartic. Bob was there and we just
- 10:47Speaker 2: laughed a lot. And I feel like you know this
- 10:51Speaker 2: laughter just helps with healing. I don't know, it's just magic.
- 10:55Speaker 2: So I feel like it was a great way to
- 11:00Speaker 2: really see him as a human, you know, and not
- 11:04Speaker 2: just not I know they're directing staff, that's what d
- 11:07Speaker 2: S stands for, but everyone wants to call him drill sergeants.
- 11:10Speaker 2: And that's kind of what he was at me, like,
- 11:12Speaker 2: yelling at me, like a drill sergeant. So I could
- 11:15Speaker 2: see him as a human more than a drill sergeant.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Okay. So the one thing that I will say that
- 11:20Speaker 1: I felt like was a little tricky was that they
- 11:22Speaker 1: actually re edited. Am I even allowed to say this? Like,
- 11:25Speaker 1: I don't even know?
- 11:26Speaker 3: Okay, yes, base, And it's not disparaging the show.
- 11:29Speaker 1: It's the it's a it's a choice cut. I mean,
- 11:31Speaker 1: they do the most beautiful edits on these shows to
- 11:33Speaker 1: keep people entertained. And you know, Day two, Kylo was
- 11:37Speaker 1: telling me, she's like, this is a TV show. This
- 11:39Speaker 1: isn't like we're not actually doing this, this is this
- 11:42Speaker 1: is a structured show for us, and so we and
- 11:46Speaker 1: so she was thinking of it in a different way,
- 11:48Speaker 1: and I was lost in the sauce I.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Was really thinking.
- 11:51Speaker 1: I was like in it, I don't know what I
- 11:53Speaker 1: guess because my husband got to me. So when I
- 11:57Speaker 1: watched it back this last episode, it shocked me that,
- 12:00Speaker 1: you know, my interrogation was about day three or four.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I really don't remember, a lot of those days started
- 12:06Speaker 1: to blur together, but it was early on that I
- 12:08Speaker 1: had been interrogated, and so they had to re edit it.
- 12:12Speaker 1: And so I understand the flow and you know, just
- 12:15Speaker 1: production in general. But what I'll say is, you know,
- 12:18Speaker 1: I was struggling without an interrogation, and the way that
- 12:21Speaker 1: we had the edit delivered was such that it felt
- 12:25Speaker 1: like they really encouraged me at like the last hour
- 12:29Speaker 1: of my contribution in the show. And so that's cool, Like,
- 12:34Speaker 1: don't I don't take offense to it, but it is.
- 12:36Speaker 1: It is a lot of things really are out of sequence,
- 12:39Speaker 1: and it's for this, and it's for the plot. It's
- 12:41Speaker 1: for the storyline of like hey, Christy. Without Kyla, then
- 12:45Speaker 1: I would naturally be the weakest person. Also I think
- 12:49Speaker 1: oldest besides yeah, because Carrie's gone, so I was the
- 12:52Speaker 1: oldest at forty standing there.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Okay, So part of my reconciliation with how I left
- 13:11Speaker 2: was that I missed the fight. Like obviously I missed
- 13:15Speaker 2: all of this. But the next day is when you
- 13:17Speaker 2: guys did the fighting and the submersion in the boat,
- 13:22Speaker 2: and I thought, well, thank god I didn't fight, because
- 13:24Speaker 2: so many people broke noses, ribs, everything and had to leave,
- 13:28Speaker 2: and that could have been me.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Oh my god, we could have thought, we could have
- 13:33Speaker 1: thought each other.
- 13:35Speaker 5: Sad.
- 13:38Speaker 2: So what helps me reconcile my leaving also is that
- 13:42Speaker 2: I got to miss out on that is any part
- 13:46Speaker 2: of you thankful that you left when you did because
- 13:48Speaker 2: of what they did after you left.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I'll tell you this, I think mentally okay, So speaking
- 13:55Speaker 1: of the therapy session out of you know, when you leave,
- 13:59Speaker 1: I was and maybe he was just telling me what
- 14:01Speaker 1: I wanted to hear, but I just don't think the
- 14:02Speaker 1: therapists need to do that to you. You know. At
- 14:06Speaker 1: that point, he was very sweet and he was like, look,
- 14:09Speaker 1: you know it was we were all kind of bummed
- 14:11Speaker 1: in the Truman Show whatever room with all the TVs
- 14:14Speaker 1: when he took your armband, and we really felt like,
- 14:18Speaker 1: if you could somehow make it through today, that you
- 14:22Speaker 1: would do really well with the mental stuff with interrogation.
- 14:26Speaker 1: And who's to say that that is the case, because
- 14:30Speaker 1: I look at it now, I'm like, oh man, Calorically,
- 14:32Speaker 1: I was starving. I was also stressed. So I don't
- 14:35Speaker 1: know if you're like me, but I was not eating
- 14:36Speaker 1: the little raw eggs and the whatever crap they were
- 14:40Speaker 1: given to us. I was like, yeah, I think I'm
- 14:42Speaker 1: just too nervous. I felt like a sitting duck. Regardless mentally,
- 14:46Speaker 1: I was in it to win it, So I do
- 14:48Speaker 1: think interrogation wise, I would have been like, do whatever
- 14:50Speaker 1: you want to me, you know what I mean, like,
- 14:51Speaker 1: I'll just push it, push it out of my mind
- 14:54Speaker 1: and keep going whatever. You know. I guess that's how
- 14:58Speaker 1: I'm feeling now. It was a finta pastic episode though,
- 15:01Speaker 1: right Like it was fantastic, Like, honestly, so I was
- 15:06Speaker 1: catching up on it right before this, and I had
- 15:08Speaker 1: it on the screen and Ryan was about to take
- 15:10Speaker 1: CODEA for a walk and he was just.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Standing there with his AirPods in with his coat on,
- 15:16Speaker 2: like he couldn't leave.
- 15:17Speaker 1: He's like, this is so riveting. Yeah, this show you
- 15:20Speaker 1: cannot look away from. You cannot look away from it
- 15:22Speaker 1: once it's on.
- 15:23Speaker 2: No, And honestly, like, there are just little things that
- 15:29Speaker 2: that I'm always blown away by that. I'm like, oh,
- 15:31Speaker 2: that's funny. The bugs, did you see? I mean, how
- 15:36Speaker 2: could you not freaking see all of the bugs flying
- 15:40Speaker 2: all over Billy and anyone who was ready during the
- 15:43Speaker 2: breakman thing?
- 15:45Speaker 1: No, I do. Oh, oh my god, Christy, they were
- 15:48Speaker 1: so bad.
- 15:49Speaker 2: So when we did the bridge the first day or
- 15:53Speaker 2: the second day or whatever, the bugs were bad, but
- 15:56Speaker 2: it hadn't just rained, and they weren't as bad as
- 16:00Speaker 2: last night. You need to go back and see, like
- 16:02Speaker 2: they are swarming all around them, and I'm like, oh
- 16:06Speaker 2: my god, they're at the bottom waiting for waiting to
- 16:09Speaker 2: break people and save their life essentially, and all these
- 16:13Speaker 2: bugs are all around and I was like.
- 16:15Speaker 1: I wouldn't have been able to do it.
- 16:16Speaker 2: I would not have been able to focus on anything
- 16:19Speaker 2: except the fact that bugs are like eating me alive.
- 16:22Speaker 1: You know, yeah, absolutely, yeah. And I'm sure Billy didn't
- 16:26Speaker 1: even blink because he's tough. No, he's blink at all.
- 16:31Speaker 2: And Cam is like, you know, actually blinking and like
- 16:35Speaker 2: trying to keep.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Them out of his eyes.
- 16:36Speaker 2: I don't know that was that was a freaky thing
- 16:39Speaker 2: to me. Okay, let's go back to the first part
- 16:41Speaker 2: of the episode. So the first part of the episode.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Your rock is not or your burkin is not burkin, bergen,
- 16:52Speaker 2: bergen whatever, it's yeah bergen.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Denise, Yeah, Denise called it a burkin.
- 16:58Speaker 2: I love that.
- 16:59Speaker 3: I thought that it was hilarious. Let's call it a burgen.
- 17:03Speaker 2: So it is.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Not full.
- 17:06Speaker 2: So let's tell people what we had to what we
- 17:10Speaker 2: had to do with our Burgans to make sure that
- 17:14Speaker 2: they were ready.
- 17:15Speaker 1: So they gave us sandbags, and they gave us a
- 17:17Speaker 1: pile of sand, but that pile of sand was outside,
- 17:20Speaker 1: and so it would get wet and you would essentially
- 17:24Speaker 1: locate the sand, put it in the bag, and then
- 17:26Speaker 1: stuff your bag so that it wouldquote unquote make weight.
- 17:30Speaker 1: And that weight was I forget was it twenty twenty
- 17:32Speaker 1: pounds or no.
- 17:35Speaker 2: The entirety five? What is it thirty? It was like
- 17:38Speaker 2: thirty thirty five? Okay, so that's what we well, thirty
- 17:41Speaker 2: five pounds, not kilograms or whatever.
- 17:43Speaker 3: We Yeah, yeah, that also didn't help.
- 17:45Speaker 2: I think it was fifteen. It was fifteen kilograms. I
- 17:50Speaker 2: think I think fifteen was the number. Oh and I
- 17:53Speaker 2: just saw I wore this in honor of you.
- 17:56Speaker 1: You still have it. I still have it. I proposed
- 18:01Speaker 1: to you.
- 18:02Speaker 2: I know, so I told Christy I felt naked without
- 18:06Speaker 2: my ring. I didn't have my ring on because I
- 18:09Speaker 2: wear it every day. And Christy was like, oh.
- 18:12Speaker 1: I have an extra one.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Do you want one? She's like do you want light
- 18:15Speaker 2: pink or whatever? And I was like, well, duh, Pink's
- 18:18Speaker 2: my color. So I have your ring on. Thanks.
- 18:22Speaker 1: So they didn't get that because I remember being like,
- 18:25Speaker 1: will you take this ring? Because she was like a
- 18:28Speaker 1: bachelor throwback. I was trying to be cute. You got me, Yeah,
- 18:34Speaker 1: thank you. I was so so sweet. I totally forgot
- 18:37Speaker 1: about that.
- 18:38Speaker 2: That was so fun, right, Okay, so I think it
- 18:41Speaker 2: was fifteen we had we had there was like a
- 18:44Speaker 2: little hanging scale thing you had to hang your ruck
- 18:48Speaker 2: on there and weigh it.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Yep, it was all chaotic that day.
- 18:52Speaker 2: I felt like, did you have a chance to weigh
- 18:55Speaker 2: it or were you guys still like on top of
- 18:58Speaker 2: that stuff.
- 18:59Speaker 1: At that point, I think we did start to worry
- 19:02Speaker 1: about our appearance more because they said we needed to
- 19:04Speaker 1: all be uniform. So in this episode you can actually
- 19:07Speaker 1: hear Carrie say jackets on because if one person was
- 19:11Speaker 1: going to have a jacket, everybody wanted a jacket, but
- 19:13Speaker 1: some of the guys were really hot in whatever they
- 19:17Speaker 1: had underneath, but we all decided for the women that
- 19:19Speaker 1: they would wear jackets. So on the last go we
- 19:23Speaker 1: all have the jackets and the hats so that we
- 19:26Speaker 1: could stay because we were like, somebody's gonna get wet,
- 19:29Speaker 1: et cetera. So that became. You know, there's always so
- 19:32Speaker 1: many things that you have to think about in order
- 19:34Speaker 1: to not to evade the DS and sort of hope
- 19:39Speaker 1: that you don't get on their radar. And unfortunately, I
- 19:43Speaker 1: was probably one of the most screw I hate to
- 19:46Speaker 1: say anything definitive because then the internet is like, she's
- 19:49Speaker 1: so impressed with herself. But the truth is is that
- 19:51Speaker 1: I didn't bring the thera gun, and I didn't stow
- 19:55Speaker 1: like food or snacks, and I and Cam this is
- 19:58Speaker 1: not actually shown, but that's same day we got punished
- 20:01Speaker 1: again inside the barracks by Q, where we had to
- 20:06Speaker 1: stand against the wall, bend and knee and he was
- 20:11Speaker 1: checking our our racks to see if we were storing
- 20:14Speaker 1: anything that wasn't approved, and so a lot of people
- 20:19Speaker 1: had things and Q actually read Golden's diary and they
- 20:24Speaker 1: kind of had it back and forth with that because
- 20:26Speaker 1: he had said some mean things about DS and his diary.
- 20:29Speaker 2: I'm sorry, but he read the dot that doesn't seem well.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I think at that point with day seven, Day eight,
- 20:36Speaker 1: they really are starting to it's a whole other level
- 20:40Speaker 1: of show. It's not even the same show. It's like
- 20:42Speaker 1: the first and sort of second part of it. And
- 20:46Speaker 1: so they it starts to get very personal. And from
- 20:48Speaker 1: what I know with the Hubsbyan who the vet of
- 20:51Speaker 1: the world, he's like they, if this was real, they'd
- 20:54Speaker 1: be screaming in your face all day long until you
- 20:57Speaker 1: passed out, right. So this was nothing compared to what
- 21:00Speaker 1: would really happen. But Q really did give us a
- 21:02Speaker 1: taste of like you have to be to code, you know.
- 21:07Speaker 1: And so that same moment he hopped over to Cam,
- 21:10Speaker 1: he hopped over to me. And I had nothing in
- 21:12Speaker 1: that was not approved by production because I just didn't
- 21:15Speaker 1: want to be the one. And sometimes i'd suffer, Like
- 21:17Speaker 1: I'd look over at Alana and she had these beautiful
- 21:19Speaker 1: like face oils, and she'd be like rubbing her face
- 21:22Speaker 1: and I'm like, she looks so beautiful, and she'd like
- 21:25Speaker 1: put the same like a hoble oil or whatever like
- 21:28Speaker 1: on her hair and she looks pretty, and I was like,
- 21:31Speaker 1: and she's got this great butt, like if you look
- 21:33Speaker 1: at her Instagram.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Oh no, I literally I think right after we were
- 21:38Speaker 2: allowed to start following each other. Yeah, I went, I
- 21:41Speaker 2: went on everyone's you know thing, and started following. And
- 21:45Speaker 2: the first thing I said to her was, oh my god,
- 21:49Speaker 2: your ass is.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Her peach, her peach tush holes, her peach tush. Yeah,
- 21:54Speaker 1: and she just like she I remember us changing because
- 21:57Speaker 1: we had to change in front of each other, and
- 21:58Speaker 1: I was very shy, Like we're talking like I brought
- 22:01Speaker 1: like pea panties that literally went like down to almost
- 22:05Speaker 1: my knee, and I was just so nomous.
- 22:07Speaker 3: I'm very shy.
- 22:07Speaker 1: My husband was like, make sure you don't get into
- 22:09Speaker 1: any weird situations with any of these, Like, yeah, do.
- 22:12Speaker 2: You mean pea panties? What are pea plant got?
- 22:14Speaker 1: I literally, cause you know, we're moms. Like, I have
- 22:17Speaker 1: a little bit of a problem with this, and I'll
- 22:18Speaker 1: probably get it fixed or whatever, but it's been something
- 22:21Speaker 1: that I've always battled with, and you know, I was like,
- 22:23Speaker 1: I don't know what they're going to put us through,
- 22:25Speaker 1: but if I have any like leaks or anything, like
- 22:27Speaker 1: I don't want to be gross. Oh yeah, I also
- 22:30Speaker 1: had my period when we first got there. No, you
- 22:33Speaker 1: did not, Yep, I had my prien I thought about that.
- 22:36Speaker 2: So I have not had a period since my daughter
- 22:39Speaker 2: was born because I had to have an oblasion. But
- 22:42Speaker 2: I was wondering because you know how when women all
- 22:45Speaker 2: get together then they sync up, and I'm like, if
- 22:47Speaker 2: one person gets it, then probably everyone will. You had it.
- 22:51Speaker 1: A couple of us had it, and I won't say who,
- 22:52Speaker 1: but a couple of us had it, and I just
- 22:54Speaker 1: so happened to have all the things. Like I was
- 22:57Speaker 1: like ready to go because I knew like clockwork, but
- 23:00Speaker 1: what was going to happen and how long? I thought
- 23:02Speaker 1: maybe the stress of me training and just being being
- 23:06Speaker 1: in a different country and time zone would would make
- 23:08Speaker 1: it go away. I think I even spoke to the
- 23:11Speaker 1: medical people prior and was like, hey, is there anything
- 23:15Speaker 1: we can take? And he's like, well, there is something
- 23:16Speaker 1: in the field that women take to make them not
- 23:19Speaker 1: have their period or something, and I was like really,
- 23:22Speaker 1: I said, no, I'll have it. It's fine, it is
- 23:24Speaker 1: what it is.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Yeah, true true story. Like what did you do though?
- 23:29Speaker 2: Because when can you freaking change a DAMPI I.
- 23:31Speaker 3: Know, tell me about it, Tell me about it.
- 23:34Speaker 1: We all had to get very creative and then by
- 23:36Speaker 1: of course, in a couple of days it was over.
- 23:37Speaker 3: But yeah, that was not fun. I was like, I
- 23:40Speaker 3: was like hiding.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Tampons like in my bergen and in my pocket of
- 23:47Speaker 1: whatever I was wearing, and I was like handing them
- 23:49Speaker 1: to other people.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Like here, do you want this?
- 23:51Speaker 1: Because I also didn't want to like blow their spot
- 23:53Speaker 1: up in front of these cameras. It was my first
- 23:55Speaker 1: reality show, totally, I was I thought I knew.
- 23:58Speaker 3: I thought I knew what I was doing.
- 24:00Speaker 2: You did, Obviously you were good, So back to you.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Guys got punished for people stowing snacks and contraband. Essentially,
- 24:10Speaker 2: it wasn't just that.
- 24:11Speaker 1: My bag was overweight. It was also that he went
- 24:14Speaker 1: into the We were just messy all the way around.
- 24:17Speaker 1: And the other thing about I'll say about the sand,
- 24:20Speaker 1: And this isn't to justify the error that I committed,
- 24:23Speaker 1: so to speak, but you know, the sand when it's wet,
- 24:25Speaker 1: it weighs heavier. When it dries totally lighter. So I
- 24:29Speaker 1: actually do find it really interesting because I did fill
- 24:32Speaker 1: my bag pretty consistently when Carrie would go out and
- 24:35Speaker 1: do it. I'm like, I'm gonna do what carry does
- 24:37Speaker 1: because he knew what to do, and I would just
- 24:39Speaker 1: follow him around sometimes like a puppy dog.
- 24:43Speaker 3: It was hard not to. I mean, the man just
- 24:45Speaker 3: knows what he's right.
- 24:47Speaker 2: He's a leader, He's a natural leader.
- 24:50Speaker 1: That's a gem of a man. And it did break
- 24:53Speaker 1: my heart when when he got into it broke my.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Heart, I know, I literally was like, so when I
- 25:01Speaker 2: interviewed DS Rudy and DS Billy, they said, you know,
- 25:07Speaker 2: be proud of yourself. You left when you did. You
- 25:09Speaker 2: could have left like tripping over you know, like a chord,
- 25:14Speaker 2: just doing it one of the tasks, but just tripping
- 25:16Speaker 2: over something like not even related to the task. And
- 25:20Speaker 2: I remembered. I was like, oh my god, yes that's Carrie.
- 25:23Speaker 2: And it happened last night. I was like, Ryan, here
- 25:25Speaker 2: it comes. He's he's gonna fall, and he fell right then.
- 25:29Speaker 2: I felt horrible. And the fact that the four DS
- 25:35Speaker 2: walked into the medic room and said goodbye to him,
- 25:38Speaker 2: that just I mean, that shows everybody that he really
- 25:42Speaker 2: was so respected and looked up to during that.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Man the DS just got so I feel like it
- 25:48Speaker 1: must have pissed them off so much that me and
- 25:50Speaker 1: Kyla didn't quit that night, and they were just like
- 25:52Speaker 1: God damn it, because then they're like, we lost Carrie
- 25:56Speaker 1: and now we still got these two buffoons, as they
- 25:58Speaker 1: like to call us. I'm like, duping. I'm like, I'm
- 26:01Speaker 1: not leaving. Are you leaving? And She's like, I'm not
- 26:03Speaker 1: leaving right now. I'll leave tomorrow, but I'm not leaving now.
- 26:05Speaker 5: And I was like yeah, yeah, me too, Yeah yeah,
- 26:12Speaker 5: oh okay.
- 26:16Speaker 2: So we talked about the okay, okay, your your bag,
- 26:22Speaker 2: and then the fact that basically you guys were like,
- 26:25Speaker 2: you know, chaotic.
- 26:26Speaker 1: And there was other reasons that we were punished. I
- 26:28Speaker 1: just want to make it clear that it wasn't exclusively
- 26:30Speaker 1: my bergin. And also, I don't know if you can tell,
- 26:32Speaker 1: but nobody else saw me or even Kyla as the
- 26:35Speaker 1: weakest link. I mean, you got the strongest person there
- 26:37Speaker 1: cam talking to Kyla saying, baby, you got this, you
- 26:41Speaker 1: just keep going. And then you've got him trying to
- 26:43Speaker 1: support me. He was you didn't even see like he
- 26:45Speaker 1: took our bags and he did this, and especially when
- 26:48Speaker 1: I was dealing with that rock, because there was some
- 26:50Speaker 1: times when he's like this isn't right. He said that
- 26:52Speaker 1: to me, He's like, this isn't right, and so he
- 26:54Speaker 1: would help me with the bags. The day I had
- 26:57Speaker 1: the rock, there was actually a really funny moment it
- 27:00Speaker 1: did not get captured.
- 27:01Speaker 3: When I had the rock in my bag and I looked.
- 27:03Speaker 1: At Q before U gosh, it must have been once
- 27:07Speaker 1: we got up there for the.
- 27:09Speaker 3: The line, the moving the line.
- 27:12Speaker 2: The Tyroullian something Tyrolean traverse is what it's called, I think.
- 27:17Speaker 1: And I had the rock in my bag and I
- 27:20Speaker 1: looked at Q and I he's he's obviously such a
- 27:23Speaker 1: kidd and sometimes you'll catch them off guard because they're
- 27:26Speaker 1: so stoic and strong. But I'd like to I'd like
- 27:29Speaker 1: to try to catch them off guard at that point.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Uh And I said, uh I, uh, Staff, I have
- 27:35Speaker 1: a name for my my rock because I I know,
- 27:39Speaker 1: I knew that if they wanted to break me, I
- 27:42Speaker 1: wanted to show them I still had a sense of humor.
- 27:44Speaker 1: I said, I have a name for my rock, Staff
- 27:46Speaker 1: and he was like, what is it? Recruit and I
- 27:48Speaker 1: was like, it's Dwayne the rock Bergen.
- 27:55Speaker 2: No, I know what I'm getting you for your birthday
- 27:58Speaker 2: a little.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Or do you get me a rock with an eyebrow
- 28:02Speaker 3: on it?
- 28:07Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, that is awesome.
- 28:10Speaker 2: I love the behind the scenes moments that we don't
- 28:12Speaker 2: get to see.
- 28:13Speaker 1: I think that's why it's fun to have the podcast
- 28:15Speaker 1: and for you to be the right person. And you know,
- 28:19Speaker 1: Golden also has his podcast where he's he's coming at
- 28:22Speaker 1: it from an athletic perspective and it is so interesting.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Each person's experience of it is reflective. I think of
- 28:29Speaker 1: the conversations they have with Dyes, the reason they even
- 28:31Speaker 1: took the contract. Like I see Marion Jones and she's
- 28:35Speaker 1: doing such a great job of, you know, proving why
- 28:41Speaker 1: she's her greatness is not questionable, you know, and how
- 28:46Speaker 1: she's survived through things and is on the other side,
- 28:49Speaker 1: and I really loved her. There were some people that
- 28:52Speaker 1: really like you were the first person that really kind
- 28:56Speaker 1: of messed with morale when you left. Marion was definitely
- 29:01Speaker 1: for the women, I would say when she left, I
- 29:03Speaker 1: think we all felt that, and then when Carrie did,
- 29:07Speaker 1: it was like Jesus, what are we all gonna do now?
- 29:11Speaker 1: We kind of like you. The air in the room
- 29:15Speaker 1: was sucked out as soon as Carrie was like shaking
- 29:18Speaker 1: a week. It was like seeing your dad, like shaking
- 29:21Speaker 1: a week.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Yes, your mentor like someone you look up to. I
- 29:26Speaker 2: mean he was. I know, everyone went to him with
- 29:29Speaker 2: questions and tried to garner that support from him, and
- 29:34Speaker 2: you know, same thing I've talked about it, Cam was
- 29:37Speaker 2: that for me too. He was kind of like, I'm
- 29:40Speaker 2: going to carry your bag when he came back and
- 29:42Speaker 2: got me at the beach, when he was like, don't
- 29:44Speaker 2: you come and get her and he was like whatever,
- 29:48Speaker 2: I'm gonna go help her with her bag and get
- 29:50Speaker 2: her into this vehicle. So no, I'm so glad that
- 29:54Speaker 2: he continued to do that, and I assumed Golden too.
- 29:59Speaker 2: You know, I feel like it is such teamwork. That's
- 30:03Speaker 2: I love this part of the show and part of me.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Like before I went, I really wanted to make it
- 30:09Speaker 2: to the end, but also my I had little goals.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I wanted to get to an interrogation. I wanted to
- 30:15Speaker 2: get to the point where you're writing the death letters.
- 30:17Speaker 2: I wanted to, you know, get to those little increments.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Yeah, what made you want to get to interrogation? I'm curious,
- 30:24Speaker 1: just why does everyone I mean, then to connect.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Just to connect. So connection to me is what Leffett
- 30:32Speaker 2: life is all about, and connecting with the DS. In
- 30:35Speaker 2: watching the previous seasons, I felt like the interrogation, not
- 30:39Speaker 2: the interrogation, it's the mirror room, you know, interrogation to me.
- 30:43Speaker 1: You did get interrogated, did you not.
- 30:45Speaker 2: I did get a mirror room. Yeah, they didn't show it,
- 30:48Speaker 2: but I but I did get it. So I was
- 30:52Speaker 2: thankful for that because I know, like Ali didn't get one,
- 30:56Speaker 2: and I, well, I think everybody else did. But yeah,
- 31:01Speaker 2: I was thankful for that because of that connection with
- 31:03Speaker 2: the DS. They just get to know you on a
- 31:06Speaker 2: personal level and not like where they're looking like you're
- 31:12Speaker 2: not looking up at them or they're not looking down
- 31:14Speaker 2: at you. You're looking just across the table at each other,
- 31:16Speaker 2: you know, as humans. So that's how I felt like
- 31:20Speaker 2: the mirror room was.
- 31:22Speaker 1: That's great, and you.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Had I'm thankful that they did show your mirror room.
- 31:26Speaker 2: But you're right, like Kayla's mirror room was shown or
- 31:31Speaker 2: part of it was shown in the first episode. I
- 31:33Speaker 2: feel like, so the two hours, so I don't know
- 31:35Speaker 2: if it was actually the first or the second, but
- 31:39Speaker 2: when they show her coming back from her mirror room.
- 31:42Speaker 2: My cot was already gone. If you notice, my cot
- 31:45Speaker 2: was gone, So that was definitely after I had left.
- 31:48Speaker 2: She had her mirror room. So you're right, like, they
- 31:51Speaker 2: are definitely not showing you in order what's happening. So
- 31:57Speaker 2: I like that you clarified that the mirror room that
- 32:01Speaker 2: you that was shown for you was earlier on and
- 32:05Speaker 2: you didn't really have that.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Like support reportive dialogue. I did not.
- 32:11Speaker 3: I did not.
- 32:12Speaker 1: In fact, like I was shocked after the coffin that
- 32:16Speaker 1: they didn't try to pull me in and be like, hey.
- 32:18Speaker 3: Like are you are you good? Because that was insane.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Yeah, you were crying the whole time, weren't you.
- 32:25Speaker 3: So here's the thing, Actually, I wasn't crying.
- 32:27Speaker 1: They looped. They looped a lot of that because I
- 32:29Speaker 1: think I was singing the Bluey theme song pretty much.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Okay, do you want to see.
- 32:38Speaker 1: What I did? Maybe we could make this an asset.
- 32:40Speaker 4: Okay, Oh my god, yes, I was like, mom oh
- 32:51Speaker 4: that's what I actually did.
- 32:54Speaker 1: So in Katrina, who was the producer, she said that
- 32:58Speaker 1: they were all texting each other and they're like, what
- 33:01Speaker 1: is she singing?
- 33:02Speaker 3: Because they don't have Bluey in the UK.
- 33:05Speaker 1: In the UK and so so many goes. I think
- 33:07Speaker 1: it's the bluey theist.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Oh my god, you know what, I have a song,
- 33:24Speaker 2: a song story, so before the show in a way
- 33:29Speaker 2: to prepare, like I thought, if I got to the
- 33:34Speaker 2: torture end, like the end of it when they're torturing you,
- 33:37Speaker 2: I was like, there's only so much you can like
- 33:40Speaker 2: talk to yourself in positive terms, the mantras, you know,
- 33:43Speaker 2: the everything, And I was like, I need to have
- 33:46Speaker 2: a song that I can just sing on a loop
- 33:48Speaker 2: to myself over and over again. Yep. And my song
- 33:52Speaker 2: was uh American pie.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Ooh, that's a good one. Mine was because I.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Know every word and like song so long.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Oh that's so smart. That's so smart. And we're and
- 34:05Speaker 1: we're very aligned because mine was going to be, oh
- 34:09Speaker 1: my gosh, back to life, back to Reality. That was
- 34:18Speaker 1: gonna be mine in there, but it probably would have
- 34:20Speaker 1: ended up but it probably would have ended up being
- 34:22Speaker 1: the blue theme song again.
- 34:26Speaker 3: No, no, you.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Know how they asked us what our song would be
- 34:33Speaker 2: it like when we're entering the course, you know, like
- 34:36Speaker 2: exiting or whatever.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Yours should have like back to life.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Back to reality, Like you should have used that on
- 34:43Speaker 2: a reel for for when you were finished with the show.
- 34:46Speaker 1: Exactly, that's amazing.
- 34:48Speaker 3: Exactly, And I posted, you know, I posted.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Our our back to life, back to reality with Kyla
- 34:52Speaker 1: and I are little Oh you did, yes, our little
- 34:55Speaker 1: fun thing. And I don't know if I'm jumping ahead,
- 34:58Speaker 1: and I'm.
- 34:59Speaker 3: Sure we could talk about but it's fine.
- 35:01Speaker 1: But yeah, I think, you know, I did think that
- 35:03Speaker 1: maybe they would check in with me after the coffin,
- 35:06Speaker 1: and so since they hadn't done that, and I don't
- 35:09Speaker 1: know what day that happened, but I think the day
- 35:12Speaker 1: before might have been the I don't even know honestly
- 35:15Speaker 1: what day that my teriation actually happened, but you know,
- 35:18Speaker 1: I was kind of kind of struggling. They were right
- 35:21Speaker 1: my head. My head might have been down. I can
- 35:22Speaker 1: see that. I was definitely kind of like when we
- 35:25Speaker 1: go on these missions, there's always an extra step that
- 35:27Speaker 1: they didn't explain to us, that's totally and so I
- 35:30Speaker 1: started to really try to process on the go and
- 35:33Speaker 1: my face has no filter, and so I'm looking.
- 35:36Speaker 3: At it and I'm like, oh, she's thinking hard.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Yep, I could see it.
- 35:45Speaker 2: I could see it. I'm sure you were like, oh,
- 35:47Speaker 2: I know exactly what's going on in that girl's mind.
- 35:49Speaker 3: I was like, what are you doing?
- 35:51Speaker 2: Yeap, yep, right, okay, So you have the rock, you
- 35:58Speaker 2: have to pick up the rock, you have to put
- 35:59Speaker 2: the rock in your backpack. And how much do you
- 36:02Speaker 2: you said it was probably like one hundred and fifty pounds.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Oh no, no, fifty or wait it was fifty pounds.
- 36:08Speaker 2: Fifty pounds.
- 36:09Speaker 1: I think the pound made my burgin fifty pounds.
- 36:12Speaker 2: That is crazy, Yeah, that's crazy. I'm sorry.
- 36:16Speaker 1: And I also picked up a rock that was too tiny,
- 36:19Speaker 1: and Q had me go get another rock that was
- 36:21Speaker 1: the right size. So they didn't show.
- 36:22Speaker 2: That party the right size. Okay, so all of the
- 36:28Speaker 2: girls in going back to the recap, all of the
- 36:31Speaker 2: girls didn't. It didn't pass. I cannot find my words today.
- 36:38Speaker 2: They didn't pass the Tyrolean like traverse thing. How are
- 36:43Speaker 2: you feeling doing that challenge? Like? Was it fun? Was
- 36:46Speaker 2: it scary? Was it something that you were excited to do?
- 36:52Speaker 2: I know that some of the things we've talked about,
- 36:54Speaker 2: like you know, the helicopter, like it was exhilarating in
- 36:58Speaker 2: a way. How are you feel with that challenge?
- 37:01Speaker 1: I mean I had a lot of wins and I
- 37:02Speaker 1: knew that, and then when they paired me up with Cam,
- 37:06Speaker 1: I thought that I was I thought I was in
- 37:08Speaker 1: good shape. Like I was like, Cam's got my back,
- 37:10Speaker 1: and he would talk to me and say, you know,
- 37:11Speaker 1: get out of your head and just do it. And
- 37:13Speaker 1: so that's where I was at with it. He was like,
- 37:15Speaker 1: get out of your head and let's just do this.
- 37:17Speaker 1: But the thing about this Trillian traverse or terrass, yeah,
- 37:22Speaker 1: what is it traverse? Was that youse, you don't hook
- 37:25Speaker 1: your feet as tightly as you think you need to.
- 37:27Speaker 1: So my leg got a massive bruise behind the knee
- 37:32Speaker 1: because I linked my my leg and I just because
- 37:38Speaker 1: I thought when I watched Rudy that that he kind
- 37:40Speaker 1: of crossed the feet. But you really got to be
- 37:42Speaker 1: so almost like a ballet dancer when you're like gently
- 37:46Speaker 1: and gracefully going. So that was something that you know,
- 37:49Speaker 1: experience would teach you. But uh, in terms of the
- 37:53Speaker 1: women not being able to hold themselves up right like that,
- 37:56Speaker 1: I truly don't think women are built too unless are
- 38:00Speaker 1: fitness focused folks. I don't know anyone, any female on
- 38:06Speaker 1: our on our recruit team that could have even I
- 38:09Speaker 1: know that Kayla is so so so so so so strong.
- 38:13Speaker 1: But I don't know.
- 38:14Speaker 2: But at that point, you know, you're you're pulling yourself
- 38:17Speaker 2: and I assume there's some pulling involved, so your.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Hands have already got to be like.
- 38:23Speaker 2: You know, so tired from pulling yourself across the rope.
- 38:27Speaker 2: And I was saying to Ryan because he did Fear
- 38:30Speaker 2: Factor back in the day and they did do like
- 38:34Speaker 2: a traverse like that. Oh they did, and they did,
- 38:37Speaker 2: and he was like, that's really hard, and he's like
- 38:39Speaker 2: they have to go a really long way. He's like,
- 38:41Speaker 2: on Fear Factor, we did like half of that or
- 38:44Speaker 2: a quarter of that. So I know that it's like
- 38:47Speaker 2: your hands like have got to be so tired and
- 38:51Speaker 2: then you have to hang afterwards. So yeah, I that
- 38:56Speaker 2: seemed really really hard to me, although from your couch,
- 39:00Speaker 2: I know for people it probably looked easier than it
- 39:04Speaker 2: actually is, which I think all of the things on
- 39:08Speaker 2: Special Forces everything looks easier.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Wild. I've been getting some dms that I have not
- 39:14Speaker 1: warranted and had to block because there are people that
- 39:16Speaker 1: are like you just were out of breath or you know,
- 39:19Speaker 1: you you it's just wild. I'm like, let's bury.
- 39:22Speaker 3: You in the sad and see.
- 39:24Speaker 1: How you're yeah right, Like so I'm really, I really am.
- 39:29Speaker 3: I'm really starting to look at this and say, life is.
- 39:32Speaker 1: You look at it and at the tender age of
- 39:35Speaker 1: forty about to be forty one, I need to truly
- 39:39Speaker 1: practice that. And I was a reality show virgin and
- 39:44Speaker 1: this was such an eye opening experience. So there's so
- 39:47Speaker 1: many positives to take away from it. And it is
- 39:51Speaker 1: again like how you look at the experiences is how
- 39:54Speaker 1: you will be able. And I remember they kept I
- 39:56Speaker 1: don't know if they told us this when you were there,
- 39:58Speaker 1: but they were like, look around, like this is it's
- 40:00Speaker 1: a great experience, like this is You're not going to
- 40:02Speaker 1: get anything like this anywhere else.
- 40:05Speaker 2: You're so right. I feel like that's spot on. What
- 40:11Speaker 2: have you learned? What have you taken away as your
- 40:14Speaker 2: favorite like lesson of it all?
- 40:17Speaker 1: Well, I actually think that the biggest lesson that I'm
- 40:20Speaker 1: learning is right now, it's you know, how to put
- 40:22Speaker 1: something behind you, you know. I think one of the
- 40:24Speaker 1: things that I talked more Okay, first of all, I
- 40:28Speaker 1: don't think I talked about being a child actor as
- 40:31Speaker 1: much as the interviews and whatnot. Let On, I spoke
- 40:35Speaker 1: much more about my husband than the past life of mine.
- 40:40Speaker 1: So it was really wild when it kept coming up,
- 40:42Speaker 1: because I was like, oh, no, people are going to
- 40:43Speaker 1: think this is all I talk about, But there is
- 40:46Speaker 1: something to say where it's like the focus in your
- 40:48Speaker 1: life should just be on the present and and and
- 40:50Speaker 1: staying focused on your journey and really taking it seriously
- 40:55Speaker 1: because you have one life and you can stay present
- 40:59Speaker 1: to do that, or even as challenging like in being sober,
- 41:02Speaker 1: which I don't mind talking about, it's like you have
- 41:06Speaker 1: to stay committed to that. That's a daily thing. But
- 41:09Speaker 1: it's not just enough to not do that. There's so
- 41:11Speaker 1: much more that you can commit to yourself to stay
- 41:14Speaker 1: present and to keep growing and keep pushing yourself. And
- 41:18Speaker 1: for a lot of people that's really hard, you know.
- 41:21Speaker 1: And so in some ways it's just great to do
- 41:24Speaker 1: crazy stuff like this to show us that we can
- 41:27Speaker 1: still do hard things even though we're like moms and
- 41:30Speaker 1: you know, getting older, and.
- 41:31Speaker 2: It gives you such perspective. Like my favorite lesson out
- 41:35Speaker 2: of all of this is that I came back with
- 41:40Speaker 2: such a greater appreciation for my life, feeling like I'm
- 41:45Speaker 2: really lucky, you know, like I thankfully live in a
- 41:50Speaker 2: country where there are people who sacrifice their lives for
- 41:54Speaker 2: our freedom, and I can I can live kind of
- 41:58Speaker 2: in a state of bliss that maybe I wouldn't be
- 42:01Speaker 2: able to if I had been born in the Middle
- 42:05Speaker 2: East or something, you know. So I just kind I
- 42:08Speaker 2: came home with a greater appreciation for my life and
- 42:13Speaker 2: a perspective.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Yeah, look, that was that's dead on. I mean I think.
- 42:18Speaker 3: That she definitely have a deeper appreciation.
- 42:20Speaker 1: And the truth is, even when i've and it's been
- 42:23Speaker 1: since May, so there's been stages, like you said, of
- 42:26Speaker 1: the grief of like, you know, there's been times when
- 42:29Speaker 1: maybe I was too upset about something and my husband's like,
- 42:32Speaker 1: look that was like eight days of your life. I
- 42:35Speaker 1: did it for four years. There's people who do it
- 42:38Speaker 1: for so long. I mean, I remember Q saying that
- 42:40Speaker 1: he Bud's training was one hundred like a whole year,
- 42:43Speaker 1: he said. And so these people aren't getting paid a
- 42:48Speaker 1: lot of money. You know, we got paid very well
- 42:51Speaker 1: to be on the show. And it's like you got
- 42:54Speaker 1: to be so grateful, you got to be so grateful
- 42:58Speaker 1: for all of it, right, and so yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 43:00Speaker 1: it was totally.
- 43:01Speaker 3: Well, I still couldn't believe I did it.
- 43:03Speaker 1: I was watching it last night. I was like, what
- 43:04Speaker 1: did I do? Why did I do this? Why? Why
- 43:08Speaker 1: were we so crazy? I know, what the heck is
- 43:11Speaker 1: wrong with us? Yeah? I was looking at it like
- 43:14Speaker 1: at one point and I was just like, what, I
- 43:17Speaker 1: don't And it wasn't even the mud.
- 43:18Speaker 3: It might have been like.
- 43:21Speaker 1: I think it was actually after I got eliminated, and
- 43:23Speaker 1: then I saw people fling each other over each other's bodies,
- 43:27Speaker 1: and then I was like, this is a crazy show.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Like the fact that Golden was collapsing with Cam on
- 43:36Speaker 2: his back. I was like, I was trying to think
- 43:38Speaker 2: if I had still been there, who they would have
- 43:42Speaker 2: made me, Carrie, because they totally would have made the
- 43:45Speaker 2: little people if you or me or Kyla or Denise
- 43:48Speaker 2: were still there or Ali, and Ali could have done
- 43:51Speaker 2: it because she freaking was a beast and was training
- 43:54Speaker 2: like up to you know, we left like crazy. But
- 43:58Speaker 2: I was like, who would they have made me carry?
- 44:00Speaker 2: Because I'm flashing back to Jojo Siwa, Oh yeah, hearing
- 44:05Speaker 2: was it Body Miller or Tom Sandivil? She was carrying
- 44:09Speaker 2: Tom Sandoval, Like, I was flashing back to that and
- 44:12Speaker 2: how much respect I gained just in that instant of
- 44:16Speaker 2: watching her for her, like, what how is she carrying
- 44:20Speaker 2: a full grown man on her back? You know?
- 44:24Speaker 1: Jojo was a very solidly built person with a lot
- 44:27Speaker 1: of gymnastic experience and yeah, and has the kind of
- 44:31Speaker 1: strength that like Kayla has. So I think that if look,
- 44:36Speaker 1: if I was to, if anybody would say, hey, what
- 44:39Speaker 1: advice would you give somebody that wants to be on
- 44:42Speaker 1: the show, I'd be like, if you want to be
- 44:44Speaker 1: on the show, start training now. If you know that
- 44:47Speaker 1: you have an agent, you're like, my agent's gonna pitch
- 44:49Speaker 1: me for this, But because I really want to be
- 44:50Speaker 1: in it, just start training now. Don't wait till you hear,
- 44:54Speaker 1: don't wait till anything like, because then at least you
- 44:57Speaker 1: know that you've committed from the moment that you decided.
- 45:00Speaker 2: You know, people might be watching, and it can't hurt No, Like,
- 45:04Speaker 2: the training is not gonna hurt you. It's gonna help you.
- 45:06Speaker 2: You're gonna be healthy, healthy, healthier for it, So why
- 45:09Speaker 2: not just train? Yeah?
- 45:10Speaker 1: I wish I wish I didn't.
- 45:13Speaker 2: Have my superstitious tendencies because I stopped working out.
- 45:18Speaker 1: I stopped freaking training.
- 45:20Speaker 2: Because I thought I wasn't gonna be on the show
- 45:23Speaker 2: because I was like, oh, I'm gonna test fate and
- 45:25Speaker 2: I'm gonna keep working out and they're gonna say no,
- 45:27Speaker 2: and I'm gonna be working out for no reason. I
- 45:29Speaker 2: mean not really, it's not no reason because I was
- 45:32Speaker 2: doing it for myself.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Your hypothermia would not have out. It didn't matter if
- 45:35Speaker 1: you would have oh you know what I mean, like, yeah, that's.
- 45:38Speaker 3: Temperature wise, there's yeah, definitely no way that would have
- 45:41Speaker 3: been well.
- 45:42Speaker 2: But it wasn't for me. It wasn't just the hypothermia.
- 45:45Speaker 2: It was the in between tasks where we were running
- 45:48Speaker 2: everywhere with our packs on our back, and I just
- 45:51Speaker 2: couldn't handle it. Like I am watching the what did
- 45:54Speaker 2: you call it, the seals hike or the going where
- 45:58Speaker 2: you I think where they took your arm.
- 46:00Speaker 1: I think it was called the seals Hike. Seals Hike.
- 46:03Speaker 2: Yeah, So I kept watching that thinking that is my
- 46:08Speaker 2: worst nightmare, Like I and then carrying people like and
- 46:12Speaker 2: then throwing the bugs, I don't know, the bucks.
- 46:15Speaker 5: I'm done, done, done, that's it done.
- 46:19Speaker 1: I would have handed it over. It's so funny. Again.
- 46:22Speaker 1: I have a funny story about my husband and when
- 46:24Speaker 1: he was when he was in he actually has a
- 46:27Speaker 1: now has a massive fear of spiders, which Alana mentions
- 46:30Speaker 1: when she's using the bathroom. My husband, I think he
- 46:33Speaker 1: was in twenty nine Palms or I was stationed and
- 46:35Speaker 1: they were digging in so they like dig into the
- 46:37Speaker 1: sand on an exercise. It was in Camp Pedalton. Okay,
- 46:41Speaker 1: he just said Camp Pedalton. He's my fact checker.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Guys.
- 46:46Speaker 1: He dug into the desert and they had to sleep
- 46:48Speaker 1: there overnight, but they dug into a tarantula breeding ground
- 46:51Speaker 1: which activated at night. So in the middle of the night,
- 46:55Speaker 1: all these marines, young marines start screaming because their body
- 46:58Speaker 1: parts are being nibbled and they all have to strip naked.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Tarantula's nonetheless like not to spiders, tarantulism chomping them and
- 47:06Speaker 2: then they have to strip naked just to get them off,
- 47:08Speaker 2: and they're screaming.
- 47:09Speaker 3: So I was like he had there are some funny
- 47:12Speaker 3: stories that come out of that's not funny.
- 47:15Speaker 1: That is not funny, you know.
- 47:18Speaker 3: I think like these guys.
- 47:20Speaker 1: Have really dark senses of humor for that reason because
- 47:22Speaker 1: they go through it.
- 47:23Speaker 2: Oh well, no kidding, you have to, I mean and
- 47:26Speaker 2: the fact you said that Alana was scared of the spider,
- 47:29Speaker 2: I felt like she wasn't. If that spider had been
- 47:31Speaker 2: on my butt, I would have been screaming.
- 47:34Speaker 1: I would have run.
- 47:35Speaker 2: Out of that toilet without my clothes on. She was
- 47:40Speaker 2: just like, oh, there was a spider on my butt.
- 47:42Speaker 1: I'm like, what hell are you?
- 47:44Speaker 2: Like?
- 47:45Speaker 1: So calm? She's really calm. She's a really lovely so
- 47:51Speaker 1: I love her.
- 47:53Speaker 2: I love her. I reached out to her after I
- 47:57Speaker 2: finished the episode and just said, you are freaking crushing it.
- 48:03Speaker 2: She is an inspiration to all of the moms out there,
- 48:06Speaker 2: like all of the moms who have young kids. Yep.
- 48:09Speaker 1: She was freaking.
- 48:10Speaker 2: Carrying her both of her babies doing hikes like all
- 48:15Speaker 2: of us should just be like bowing down to her
- 48:18Speaker 2: as moms and being like, yeah, we're going to be
- 48:20Speaker 2: like you, or we're gonna try because that is such
- 48:22Speaker 2: an inspiration.
- 48:23Speaker 1: She's just I mean, I didn't realize how strong she
- 48:26Speaker 1: was because no kids. When we did the gas thing,
- 48:29Speaker 1: and she she gets very scared, and so there was
- 48:32Speaker 1: times when I was like, girl, you're not leaving, You're
- 48:33Speaker 1: not leaving, like you gotta stay. But when it came
- 48:37Speaker 1: to the certain types of training things. She really nailed it.
- 48:40Speaker 1: And when I saw her going up, I was like,
- 48:43Speaker 1: that's why she's able to stay. She's meant to stay.
- 48:47Speaker 1: She's not ready to leave. Yeah, so we'll see, right, No.
- 48:50Speaker 2: Spoilers, Yeah, no spoilers. She's still there thanks to Kyla.
- 48:55Speaker 2: I feel like Kyla was like, don't you leave me.
- 48:57Speaker 2: You're not leaving me. I know.
- 48:58Speaker 3: Kayla didn't want to be the only girl. She was like,
- 49:00Speaker 3: don't leave me with these men, right, I just lost
- 49:03Speaker 3: to girls. I don't need you gone to.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, so we have to wrap soon. But I
- 49:19Speaker 2: do want to touch on your mirror room interview and
- 49:23Speaker 2: how you talked about your mom and having to let
- 49:27Speaker 2: her go as you as your manager. How are things
- 49:31Speaker 2: now between do you know mom and your family?
- 49:33Speaker 1: So, my mom has been obviously so supportive.
- 49:36Speaker 3: My mom is my number one fan.
- 49:37Speaker 1: She like, you know, I'm writing a memoir right now,
- 49:40Speaker 1: and yeah, there's a lot of things that I'd like
- 49:42Speaker 1: to kind of dig into, so I need to be
- 49:45Speaker 1: chronologically accurate. She always brings over too much stuff. She's
- 49:49Speaker 1: hoarded all this stuff, these playbills, these pictures, and she
- 49:54Speaker 1: brought a box of Kodak images last night for me
- 49:57Speaker 1: to like go through and I know that to put
- 50:00Speaker 1: the kids down and then we're gonna start watching this.
- 50:03Speaker 1: And I had texted her. I texted her before I said, Mom,
- 50:06Speaker 1: we talk about you in tonight's episode. She's like, Okay,
- 50:10Speaker 1: we'll deal with it when I get there, right, And
- 50:12Speaker 1: I'm looking through all the images and I realize, you know,
- 50:15Speaker 1: she's just always been there for me, even if we
- 50:18Speaker 1: had these hard times. As many people who grow up
- 50:21Speaker 1: in this business do a lot. Most people don't talk
- 50:24Speaker 1: about it. Most people don't talk about their stage parent
- 50:26Speaker 1: being you know, complex or complicated. I know, so meant actually,
- 50:32Speaker 1: three quarters, if not ninety five percent of stage parents
- 50:36Speaker 1: make mistakes in ways that can range from really super
- 50:39Speaker 1: abusive to just general mistakes like oh I financially didn't
- 50:43Speaker 1: set you up. I'm so sorry, but then you can't
- 50:45Speaker 1: get those years back right. So I felt like I
- 50:48Speaker 1: was very authentic in the mirror room. I felt like
- 50:51Speaker 1: I was very respectful of what happened between me and
- 50:53Speaker 1: my mom, and she sat there with me and we
- 50:56Speaker 1: watched the together, and I looked at her, and my
- 50:59Speaker 1: husband was nice enough to be taking care of the girls.
- 51:01Speaker 1: I said, Mom, what are you thinking right now? And
- 51:04Speaker 1: she was like, yeah, She's like, it's it's true. That
- 51:07Speaker 1: is what happened. That's true. And it's weird. It's almost
- 51:10Speaker 1: like my mom was there with me and going through
- 51:14Speaker 1: you know, she sees your little girl going through this
- 51:16Speaker 1: crazy experience and you can be rooting for her, but
- 51:20Speaker 1: you're really a piece of you is there. So it
- 51:24Speaker 1: was really it was really touching to see her take
- 51:26Speaker 1: accountability too and just be like, it's all good, and
- 51:31Speaker 1: maybe I'll check in with her.
- 51:32Speaker 3: I'll call my mom after this. Okay, trist Die, see
- 51:34Speaker 3: what you're doing.
- 51:35Speaker 1: You will, yes, you look, she lives here. She lives here.
- 51:41Speaker 1: She lives close to me in Texas, and I take
- 51:43Speaker 1: care of her and I love her and I take
- 51:45Speaker 1: her to her surgeries, and you know, it's like she
- 51:48Speaker 1: just wants to be a part of my life. And
- 51:50Speaker 1: it was really only one year that I hadn't take
- 51:52Speaker 1: the break, and I think that was the healthiest thing
- 51:54Speaker 1: for me. But there's a whole bunch of other stuff
- 51:57Speaker 1: you go through after you leave your parents house, right
- 52:00Speaker 1: like you become this adult. I just was a little
- 52:03Speaker 1: delayed and ended up just not not, and he you
- 52:08Speaker 1: know what, Foxy, God bless him.
- 52:10Speaker 3: He got it.
- 52:11Speaker 1: He was like this autonomy thing, you wanted it and
- 52:13Speaker 1: then you didn't know what.
- 52:14Speaker 3: To do with it. And then I got really emotional.
- 52:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's really introspective. Like it's true, I
- 52:22Speaker 2: would assume and so hard. Like I feel like we
- 52:28Speaker 2: hear stories about child actors who just go down really
- 52:33Speaker 2: bad paths, you know, just for whatever reason. And thank God,
- 52:40Speaker 2: you know, you came out on the other side of
- 52:43Speaker 2: it and got to do special Forces and holy challenge
- 52:47Speaker 2: yourself and be crazy.
- 52:50Speaker 4: There.
- 52:51Speaker 3: Yes, there's three dimensions to everyone.
- 52:53Speaker 1: That is true. And I think that's why I did
- 52:55Speaker 1: the show, was just to kind of show people like, hey,
- 52:56Speaker 1: like I may have talked about this in the past
- 52:58Speaker 1: and this may be how you know me, but like
- 53:00Speaker 1: I'm a full other person too, And I still can't
- 53:06Speaker 1: believe I did this show. I know, it's so weird.
- 53:11Speaker 2: Literally, Okay, I'm gonna end on this. But so the
- 53:14Speaker 2: almost famous podcast with Ben and Ashley is you know,
- 53:18Speaker 2: we're kind of the not the sidekick, the spinoff of that, Okay,
- 53:23Speaker 2: and well, I guess you could call us a sidekick,
- 53:26Speaker 2: and they just had Wells Adams who was on Traders.
- 53:30Speaker 2: He's part of Bachelor Nation and he was on Traders,
- 53:32Speaker 2: and they were talking about Special Forces because Ashley predicted
- 53:36Speaker 2: that I was going to be on this season. She
- 53:39Speaker 2: said it to me so long before they even asked me,
- 53:43Speaker 2: and so they started talking about how Ashley thinks that
- 53:46Speaker 2: Ben is going to be asked next, and Wells was like,
- 53:50Speaker 2: don't do it, dude, don't do it. Just do Traders.
- 53:53Speaker 2: That show is crazy, and I'm like, no kidding, it
- 53:55Speaker 2: really is. What were we thinking.
- 53:58Speaker 1: That's so funny? Would you do Traders? Trista totally. I
- 54:04Speaker 1: love to do that show. You heard it, honestly, you know.
- 54:08Speaker 2: I feel like the camaraderie that there was, and that's
- 54:12Speaker 2: kind of part of me is the fomo of missing
- 54:15Speaker 2: out on the bonding that you guys did after I
- 54:19Speaker 2: left and then what they're still doing like I love,
- 54:22Speaker 2: I love. Like I said in the beginning of this
- 54:25Speaker 2: podcast is connection. It just means everything to me. And
- 54:30Speaker 2: so for that reason, I would love to do Traders.
- 54:33Speaker 2: I love to travel. Why not go live in a
- 54:35Speaker 2: castle in Scotland and meet all kinds of fun people
- 54:37Speaker 2: that I never would have before. So yeah, sign me
- 54:40Speaker 2: up for Traders? Love it anyway?
- 54:42Speaker 1: Would you do it? I don't know about reality. I
- 54:45Speaker 1: don't know if it's the best look for me. I
- 54:47Speaker 1: don't know you're done. I don't know I'm done. You
- 54:50Speaker 1: got to give me a few days, you know, we'll see.
- 54:53Speaker 1: I think I really love hosting. I will tell you
- 54:56Speaker 1: that much. I love hosting. And I'm pretty sure I
- 54:58Speaker 1: want to go back to doing theater. And because I
- 55:02Speaker 1: think I just want to, like re like, I want
- 55:05Speaker 1: to fall back in love with with with what I'm
- 55:07Speaker 1: good at, my skills, and kind of like the theater
- 55:09Speaker 1: is that and it always has been for me, so
- 55:12Speaker 1: I should do it. And maybe that's part of what
- 55:15Speaker 1: all this is is just what are you doing after this?
- 55:17Speaker 1: You know, rather than like, you know, book another movie,
- 55:21Speaker 1: book another whatever, shoot another campaign. It's like, no, like
- 55:26Speaker 1: meaningful amount of your life? What do you what are
- 55:29Speaker 1: you bringing meaning to it? Did that make sense? Yeah,
- 55:32Speaker 1: Jesus one hundred percent.
- 55:34Speaker 2: I feel like that's part of why I went I
- 55:36Speaker 2: wanted to know what my purpose was other than being
- 55:39Speaker 2: a mom, Like I love being a mom. I will
- 55:42Speaker 2: continue to be a mom, but I think that's what
- 55:45Speaker 2: I went into it. For so I do have to wrap.
- 55:48Speaker 2: I'm so sorry. We could talk forever now and ever
- 55:51Speaker 2: will We'll keep texting me so much. Well, duh, and
- 55:57Speaker 2: thank you Christy for coming on the almost famous og pad.
- 56:00Speaker 2: I hope everyone will continue to watch Special Forces on
- 56:04Speaker 2: Fox on Wednesday nights. Next week will be I feel
- 56:08Speaker 2: like the finale and then it will air on Hulu afterwards,
- 56:11Speaker 2: and then they'll show our reunion.
- 56:13Speaker 1: That's right, well, we'll be read.
- 56:15Speaker 3: We should do something.
- 56:16Speaker 1: You and I should do something on live, like we
- 56:18Speaker 1: could be live with each other.
- 56:20Speaker 3: That would be kind of fun.
- 56:21Speaker 1: Oh love, I love that. YT's do it. Let's text
- 56:24Speaker 1: the week chat. We're gonna text the group chat. You're
- 56:26Speaker 1: hearing it here. First text the group chat and try
- 56:28Speaker 1: to see how many people we could admit into the
- 56:31Speaker 1: live while doing it, and we'll host so fun. Okay, oh,
- 56:34Speaker 1: I love it.
- 56:35Speaker 2: All right, thanks for coming.
- 56:37Speaker 1: All right, bye, We'll love bye
