- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Is dental coaching a scam, Dr.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Blake?
- 0:03SPEAKER_01: It absolutely can be.
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: There are people out there that will take your money any way they can, and if you'll give it to them, they'll run with it.
- 0:10SPEAKER_01: And so absolutely it can be.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: However, I will tell you, one of the things that has helped me grow so much faster in my journey is finding the right coaches.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to another episode of My Dental Playbook.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: I'm your co-host, Gary Bird.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Along with my friend Dr.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Blake Hamlin, we're going to be diving deep into his office and how he's doubled his collections in just under 12 months.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: We're also going to be talking about his journey to a$10 million practice and what he needs to do to get there.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: You're going to see behind the curtain, and Dr.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Blake is amazing at sharing the hard details that you need to know so you can do the same too.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: If you want to grow, this is the show for you.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Stay tuned.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to another episode.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for tuning in.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: And we got a banger of a topic today is dental coaching a scam.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Is it a scam?
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: And before we jump into this, and I get Dr.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Blake's answer on this, I want to make sure that you check out our sponsor, Cherry.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: They are amazing.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: If you're not using them, you're missing out.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: If you implement them and use them properly, you present it with every patient, your collections will go up by 30%.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: I make that statement because so far I've put in scores of offices of my clients and people from our mastermind, and everybody's collections increase by a minimum of 30%, some upwards of 100%.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: So if you're not using them, go check out the training before below.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: We have special pricing with them and they will help you.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: So let's jump into it.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Is dental coaching a scam, Dr.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Blake?
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: It absolutely can be.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: I'm sure you've heard the stories.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: I'm sure you heard it all.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: Um, however, I will tell you one of the things that has helped me grow so much faster in my journey is finding the right coaches.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: And the right coaches can absolutely fold time for you to where you can avoid costly mistakes, both in time, uh, money, and sanity, and they will absolutely change your life.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: And so, can it be a scam?
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: But if if you find the right one, it's a gold mine.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: So it's just like everything else in life.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Like, can marketing be a scam?
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Or it can change your life.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Can the mechanic down the street be a scam?
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Or it can they can fix your car and you don't have any problems with it and they keep you on the road.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: So there's so there's always upside-downside in business, and you have to weigh the risk reward.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: And so before we we hit record, you we went through and we just created like a six uh six-point list to help people with this and help think about coaching.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: So um now, if you want help with coaching, for$299, you can hop on with Dr.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Blake and I.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: And there's no contract.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: The link's right down below.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: If you want help, come hop on.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: We have a lot of offices on there.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: We have case studies of people who've grown like crazy.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: We actually have an office in there that has been in every mastermind, and they went from doing$100,000 in collections to$200,000 in collections.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: It's it's actually an older podcast.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: We'll drop the link down for it below.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Go check it out.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Growing by$100,000 in collections in like a three-month period is absolutely nuts.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: So join us, test us out.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: $299.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: It's not not a big deal.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: So, but let's work through this.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: If someone's thinking about coaching, the first thing that you said, if you're gonna vet a coach, talk to somebody who's already been where you want to go.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can apply this to so many things, especially coming out of the world that I've feel like I've been living in for the past 12 months and months and hiring.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: Like using other people as a resource is one of the best things you can do.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: And don't just use Facebook, don't use, you know, whatever your you know, uh favorite Facebook group of choices.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: Use people that you know and that you trust, and you know they'll be honest with you.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: Uh, because you can find anything you want.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: You know, there's like there's a bias that you can you can find any sort of answer you want.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: If you want to find that this group is great, you'll find it.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: If you want to find that SMC is great, you'll find it.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: If you want to hear that they're terrible, you'll find it, right?
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: And so you'll find anything you want to find.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: But if you can go to a friend or somebody that's been in the group before or or maybe is currently in the group and say, you know, what's it like?
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: What are you learning?
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: How are you implementing things?
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: All those things.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: They'll be honest with you.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: I've found, especially with dentists, we just want to help people.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: Like we just we'll we'll share, we'll share, we'll be an open book, but you gotta ask.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: You gotta ask.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: So, so talk to people who've been where you want to go.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Now, the one thing that I've seen that dentists are notorious for, and I think other people are as well, is they'll go to their peers who haven't been where they wanted to go and ask them for feedback.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: That's the wrong group to be talking to.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Um, if I wanted to climb up Mount Everest, I don't want to, I'm not gonna go to you, Dr.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Blake, and be like, hey, you want to help me up Mount Everest?
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: Well, you've never done it before, so we're just gonna be two rookies.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Well, maybe we do this, maybe we do that.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: What I should do is go to somebody who's already been up the mountain before and ask them, hey, can you help me go up this mountain again?
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: And they'll usually be able to point you in the right direction.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Now, one thing that a lot of people forget about coaching is there are coaches out there that maybe are amazing and no one's used them yet.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: So you put as point number two, sometimes you have to be the guinea pig of trying the new thing.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: The problem has to be so big that no amount of money will get in the way of it.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Like you have to be so frustrated with where you're at, or the stagnation that you felt, or the lack of leadership that you have, or your inability to get new patients through the door, or you name the problem.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: That problem has to feel so big that you're like, man, if if this could be the option, I'm gonna go for it, right?
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: And that's what I love about what we've built is like we just love helping people.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: And so we're quite literally like giving away, basically giving away the mastermind.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: Um but find someone that maybe it's not gonna lock you in for forever.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: Maybe you go to one of their courses, like a one-off course, see if you like them, then go, right?
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Like if if if it's making a$20,000 to$30,000 decision, maybe you test them out with a single course on their treatment planning, you know, module.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: And then if if if that's helpful and you took something and you ran with it and it worked, then maybe they got other things that'll work too.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I love that.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: That that is a really good point.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: I I've used coaches that have helped my business.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: And then I've used coaches that didn't help my business, and we wasted a couple months and$10,000,$20,000 and was like, okay, that's not the right fit for what we're trying to do.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: And even then, I didn't think like, oh, that person's a scam.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: I just thought they're not the they're a different kind of coach than what I needed at that moment.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: Coaches are totally for the season.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: Like you'll be you may be in season one, and season two needs a different coach.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: And so I love how you were able to separate those two.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Yep, 100%.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that the there's and and and and again, there's scam artists in every industry.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: There's I just saw somebody posting they that they'll do ortho braces, metal braces, um, but they weren't a licensed orthodontist.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: It was just this lady on Instagram posting about how she's going to do and they she it wasn't for uh correction.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: It was just like it's a style.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Younger people like having the metal braces on, it looks cool to them.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: So she's gonna put brackets with and gloom on your teeth, right?
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Like, so there's scam artists in every industry.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Like, that's just the way it goes.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: So you got to avoid the scam artists, but there's also people who just aren't good fits, they're not gonna fit.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: They're a different, they're a different kind of style.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: So call that out and make sure you identify that.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Okay, so number one, talk to people who've been there.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: Number two, if you can't find people who've been there, go be the guinea pig, low cost, low risk, if you can.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Number three, and you already kind of mentioned this, the problem has to be bigger than the dollar amount.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: So is it if you only have a 500, if you're like, I don't want to pay more than$500 just to fix this problem, it's probably not a big problem.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, if the if if the problem has a price tag, then you need to find another problem, honestly.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: And and that's what we're all looking for.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: When when we talk with people in our mastermind, when I'm doing other coaching, the problem isn't where they're at.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: The problem is that they can't get to where they want to go.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: And you can't put a price tag on that.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: You you have to want to get there so bad that you're gonna run through the brick wall.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: That's how you got here, right?
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: And we forget when when we build these comfortable lifestyles where we want to be the practice owner so bad, and then we finally build the practice, and we finally get patience through the door, and then we get in that season of comfort.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: We forget what we did back in the days that weren't so fun.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: All all the glass that we ate, right?
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: And the same thing is true here.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: You've got to go and you've gotta you've gotta be like, Man, I wanna solve these problems so bad that uh I'll spend whatever it takes to get there.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: I'll chew on glass.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: I watched a video.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: This guy said, Hey, the reason that a lot of people that uh out there that you're not rich, the reason that you're not rich and you haven't reached your goals yet is because you're not a complete psycho.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: And that's okay.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: And he's like, the people who are like make millions of dollars and they're super successful, they're literally crazy, and they will do anything and put them, they'll be kicked in the teeth, they'll fail 150 times, they'll be publicly shamed because they did it the wrong way, and they'll keep going.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: And just a lot of people aren't psycho like that.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: Well, and said another way, like some of the wealthiest people are the the the biggest risk takers.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: Like they're they're just not afraid.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: They're like, if I go bankrupt, I don't care.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: And I'm not saying do that, but some people are that way.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: And when you look at even people within dentistry that are just absolutely doing crazy, crazy things, they're willing to take risks.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: And the thing that most people don't realize, we look at them and we go, oh, they have such a comfortable life.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: They also have they're exposed to massive risk, like like losing everything.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: And when you're small, like, yeah, you're it's like, oh, how am I gonna pay my rent or how am I gonna pay my mortgage?
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: But when you have a lot of money, now you're a target.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: And you're a target for other corporations, you're a target for other dentists, you're a target for patients suing you in lawsuits.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: Like the bigger you are, the bigger target you are.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: So I love that.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: Okay, so number four, the goal of a coach is for you to outgrow them.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: So one thing that I learned, because when I first started getting coaches, I was like, oh, we're gonna use this coach.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: And in my head, I'm like, this is gonna be my coach forever.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: But then, like a year, year and a half later, we we uh they helped fix a bunch of problems.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: And we were way past where we were a year and a half ago.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: And then I started to realize I'm like, oh, they can't help me get to the next level because they haven't been there yet.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: And I actually celebrated that.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: I'm like, hey, this has gone really, really well.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: You did everything that I thought you were gonna be able to do, and then we moved on to the next coach.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: So there's coaches for different seasons.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: And I think what a I mentioned this in the pre-call, but it's similar to parenting.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Like my dad has always said, Man, like, I I just want you to be a better dad and a better husband and a better businessman and everything than I am.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: And what a what a compliment.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: I think of like a jujitsu trainer.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: I don't do jujitsu, but what a compliment if one of your students beat you in a match.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: Like, how how awesome would that be?
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: It would just be like you would hate it because you're a competitor, but you would love it because you're like, I taught them everything, and they're even better now than I am.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: You know, what a compliment.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: And that's ultimately what teachers and coaches want.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: We we forget it's a two-way street, like we forget that the coach also is getting benefit out of this because they just they're they're being able to share their knowledge and the joy that they get of seeing you succeed far exceeds their own their own uh enjoyment of their own success.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: That's why they're literally doing it.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: And yeah, and I I think um just knowing that that whole process is for the betterment of of both parties is so critical.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 100%.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: So number five, um a coach is not for a quick fix.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: If it's something that you can go in and just write up an SOP and use Grok for uh or or Claude or whatever, and just use AI and you can just like here, I fixed it.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: That's not what a coach is for.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: A coach is for something that you can't fix quickly, right?
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: And I will tell you that that there's so many coaches out there that will give you the quick fix.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: They'll give you the SOPs, they'll give you the manuals, they'll give you the the protocols.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: That's not that's not a coach.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: That that that is the quick fix.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: And you can get those, but I will tell you there hasn't been an online course that I've ever taken that I've that I can sit there and hang my hat on and say, you know what, I went through all that stuff and I implemented it and it changed my life.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: But what did what does change my life is when I go on trips like we're uh well it will have already happened by the time this releases, but the trip we're both going on to DSI when I surround myself with other people that are doing similar things, right?
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: And being with being with those people causes me to um have a level of accountability and uh and a level of implementation that a quick fix, uh SOP here, a manual there absolutely will not do the thing.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I totally agree.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: I've um, you know, we I've seen this with coaches, and and so in business, there's there's something called a quick win.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: And you do this at your office.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: I do it in my business.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: It's a little bit harder in B2B to do, but you need to do it, is that when somebody gives you money, you need to validate that instantly with a quick response that confirms in their brain I made the right decision.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: And if there's a long delay, like as an example, if a new patient comes into your office, sits down, and then they wait 30 minutes to be put in the chair before their after their appointment time, they are now questioning if they came to the right dentist.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: And it just starts the relationship wrong.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: And so, what what most people don't realize, a lot of coaches, what they'll do is they'll come in right away and they'll help you with these quick wins that lift your production right away.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: And it's smart to do that.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: I'd do the same thing if I was a coach, but that doesn't necessarily fix your underlying culture issue or your underlining you can't hire people or you're mean to people and no one wants to work for you.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: Like the coach didn't fix that yet.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: And so you may get instant validation, but that's not the long-term fix that you're looking for.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: So that's really important to watch for is that this isn't gonna be a three-week thing.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: This is gonna be a six-month, twelve month, eighteen month, twenty-month lifetime.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, lifetime.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: But with that particular coach, it's gonna be a year or two thing, and then it's like, okay, now we move on.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: Okay, and then lastly, and I think probably most importantly, is it's a you thing.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: You have not become the person that is capable of leading to what your goals are.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: That's why you haven't got there yet.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you gotta lead yourself.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: There's even in groups that I'm currently in, there's opportunities that I pass up on because of the urgent.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Um, so I might miss the live call, and and the live call is where it's so valuable, but I'll miss it because it's recorded and I can just catch it on the back end.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: But the live call is what what is so valuable.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: And if I would have just taken the time to go show up, I would have gotten five times more value out of that.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: And the same thing is true with with any coaching is we can give you the steps to do it.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: But when I think of Steve and Whitney, like what they did the best was they went and they did it.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: And they learned what worked and what didn't work and what worked in their office that didn't work in my office, right?
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: And the implementation and the the going to do it and and taking the ownership of the new information is so critical to making making any sort of coaching valuable whatsoever.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: That's so good.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: Awesome.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: Well, again, if you want help with your coaching, if you even want help with picking a coach, come to our mastermind.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: Dr.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: Blake has worked with a lot of coaches.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: I've worked with a ton of coaches.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: Uh, we've seen the good, the bad, the ugly.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: We're not gonna call those out here, but you can join our masterminds 299.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: We meet every month.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: We'll hold you, we hold you accountable.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: Like, we will tell you, like, hey, did you do the thing that you were said you were gonna do last month?
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: And so if you want accountability, if you want structure, if you want the answers to the problems that you have, jump in.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: It's not a quick fix, but it will help you grow right away if you put in the work.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: So, any last words before we uh let everybody go?
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: No, I would just say um similar to what you've already mentioned, is if you've been thinking about coaching and you want an easy onboard, come try us out.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: Um, like we we honestly just have a lot of fun.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: Um, you'll you'll have some questions asked of you that you've probably never had asked before, and then it may uh poke and prod at you.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Um, but we also we also just want the best for you.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: Like we just want to support you and whatever your goals are, whether it's to grow bigger or to reduce your schedule, like we want to help support those things.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: And so uh I don't know of another group that is offering uh such a low entry point into what could change their life.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: Yep, I agree.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much, my friend.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: You bet.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Thanks.
