- 0:01Speaker 1: I'm not getting hold of much, Champs.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Sometimes the answer is just keep the dude that you
- 0:16Speaker 2: already had the news that came in right before the
- 0:20Speaker 2: show started. Or hey, Polanco, who has dealt with many
- 0:23Speaker 2: injuries throughout his career, is undergoing season ending surgery. So
- 0:28Speaker 2: Bob Nightingale posts how he replaced Pete Alonzo or was
- 0:32Speaker 2: supposed to at first base first base, DH whatever. Thirty
- 0:36Speaker 2: seven games, twenty hits, two home runs, six RBIs. I'll say,
- 0:42Speaker 2: of everyone the Pee Alonzo stats, you can just go
- 0:45Speaker 2: check those. They look pretty similar to every single season
- 0:51Speaker 2: of his career. KP. You know, Pete. It was a massive,
- 0:57Speaker 2: massive error in off season analysis to say, oh, we'll
- 1:03Speaker 2: take the injury prone dude who's had his moments but
- 1:07Speaker 2: also has never been at first base, and we will
- 1:11Speaker 2: have him replace the most one of the most consistent,
- 1:15Speaker 2: durable first basement in the sport.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Not only that, he's one of the most beloved Mets
- 1:20Speaker 1: maybe of old time. And he's a guy who wanted
- 1:23Speaker 1: to be in New York, loved being in New York,
- 1:25Speaker 1: and he was a guy who thrived under the biggest
- 1:28Speaker 1: lights that there is in baseball in New York. City,
- 1:30Speaker 1: and just a miss by the Mets, you know, to
- 1:33Speaker 1: especially to go out and replace him with a guy
- 1:35Speaker 1: who was never really played first base, who's dealt with
- 1:37Speaker 1: a lot of injuries. Not only has Pete been really
- 1:40Speaker 1: consistent in his production, he's one of those most durable guys.
- 1:44Speaker 1: He takes first base every single day, wants to be
- 1:47Speaker 1: out there every single day. So definitely a big miss
- 1:51Speaker 1: by the Mets.
- 1:52Speaker 3: M Pete. Pete's career ops plus one thirty six. Jorge
- 1:59Speaker 3: Polanco besides his first like season where he had like
- 2:03Speaker 3: a two thirty eight ops plus and like Noah Vats
- 2:06Speaker 3: one thirty three, his best season still didn't compare to
- 2:11Speaker 3: Pete's and Pete never Peet's average. Pete's average is better
- 2:18Speaker 3: than Polonko's Pete's.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Adding Polanco's best season, and you're right the sizzle aka
- 2:23Speaker 2: the Royds, which we're back in the day for Jorge.
- 2:26Speaker 2: But still, I mean, when you're evaluating the player and
- 2:28Speaker 2: you're paying it, you're a big leaguer, I'm saying. I'm
- 2:31Speaker 2: saying the common Oh well you bring that up, now, well,
- 2:35Speaker 2: it's all part of your story. It's all part of
- 2:36Speaker 2: your big league story. Pete's clean as whistle, durable as
- 2:40Speaker 2: can be. He's there every day. He's a spiritual leader,
- 2:44Speaker 2: he's an emotional leader, and he hits forty dingers a year.
- 2:47Speaker 2: So lesson learned on that one. That's a g.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Run prevention.
- 2:54Speaker 2: The run prevention from Pete is better than the caval
- 2:57Speaker 2: kid that they threw out at first base this year.
- 3:00Speaker 2: So that puts the end to that chapter when we said,
- 3:03Speaker 2: I wonder how this experiment's going to work out. It
- 3:06Speaker 2: did not work out in year one.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Let me back next year. Got another year to do
- 3:11Speaker 3: it for Whoh, that's.
- 3:12Speaker 2: True, Planco has another year to prove it. I mean,
- 3:15Speaker 2: it's not going to get traded because obviously you know
- 3:17Speaker 2: he's at ankle issues. It's not a tradable contract. They'll
- 3:20Speaker 2: hope that he can rebound and get back to a
- 3:22Speaker 2: shell of himself again. This is not a knock on Polanco.
- 3:25Speaker 2: This sucks for him. He's hurt all that, right, It's
- 3:28Speaker 2: a knock on the decision making to let someone like
- 3:30Speaker 2: that go when you had a perfect bit and it's
- 3:32Speaker 2: not easy to succeed like that in New York. A
- 3:34Speaker 2: lot of people fail in bigger markets. All right, let's
- 3:38Speaker 2: get to something fun, not charge the mound, but it
- 3:49Speaker 2: is time for all smiles, presented by Lorraine co. Okay,
- 3:53Speaker 2: let's go over a team that is smiling after last night,
- 3:56Speaker 2: and that would be the Milwaukee Brewers Crats twenty to nothing.
- 4:01Speaker 2: It's one of the biggest blowout wins of all time
- 4:05Speaker 2: shutout variety. In fact, I'll give you the fun nugget
- 4:08Speaker 2: at the top. It's tied for the best shutout win
- 4:12Speaker 2: in terms of deficit right in the modern era. If
- 4:17Speaker 2: you go further back, did you see what the record was?
- 4:21Speaker 2: I found it from a few smarter people than me online.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Did you see what the record was for most lopsided
- 4:27Speaker 2: shutout win in baseball history? As far as what they recorded,
- 4:31Speaker 2: it was not in this century. It was not in
- 4:33Speaker 2: the last century.
- 4:35Speaker 3: It was like eighteen eighty seven, right, m M. But
- 4:38Speaker 3: I didn't see what the what the deficit was?
- 4:41Speaker 2: What was it? It was twenty four to nothing. And
- 4:43Speaker 2: I think you'll like the teams because you have connections
- 4:46Speaker 2: to both. The Indianapolis Hoosiers were the ones that lost.
- 4:50Speaker 2: You played in Indie right, Oh?
- 4:52Speaker 3: Yeah, two years it was Peyton Manning in the winter,
- 4:55Speaker 3: me in the summer, exactly where were the superstars.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Yeah, Summercrats manning winters and then the Philadelphia Quakers were
- 5:05Speaker 2: victorious in that game.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Can I live here and I live near Quaker Town
- 5:11Speaker 3: in Pennsylvania. I feel like I feel like I'm a
- 5:14Speaker 3: part of this. I feel like I'm a part of
- 5:15Speaker 3: history twenty four nothing. I wonder how many position players
- 5:19Speaker 3: pitched in that game?
- 5:20Speaker 2: Mmm? I think the position players were the pitchers, and
- 5:23Speaker 2: the pitchers were the position players. And I don't even
- 5:25Speaker 2: know if they knew that they were doing back then.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Maybe they probably a complete game by the losing team.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Probably well, in this one, we had all kinds of fun, right,
- 5:35Speaker 2: So first off, let's go through the actual result of
- 5:38Speaker 2: the game and that it is just one game for
- 5:40Speaker 2: the Mariners, although it is a very tumultuous season for
- 5:43Speaker 2: them up until this point. They still have time to
- 5:45Speaker 2: figure things out, but they are running out of time.
- 5:47Speaker 2: On the Brewers side, Kyle Harrison had like a little
- 5:50Speaker 2: bit of vlow down early on in this game, and
- 5:52Speaker 2: they were like, is he gonna be okay? It's going
- 5:53Speaker 2: to make it through a long season. Then that picked
- 5:55Speaker 2: right back up, still played very well. Here's someone who
- 5:58Speaker 2: follows the team, Jack Sterns ten whiffs, just two hard
- 6:01Speaker 2: hit balls. Below and command were off for much of
- 6:04Speaker 2: the night. Pulp third time through after seventy nine pitches
- 6:07Speaker 2: in five innings, although he did punch out eight, I
- 6:10Speaker 2: will say I mean I watched part of this game.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Eventually I was like, all right, I'll watch the highlights.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I don't need the twenty two nothing in Julio Rodriguez
- 6:16Speaker 2: forgetting how many outs there are. But I think Kyle
- 6:19Speaker 2: Harrison is going to be okay. They might have to
- 6:21Speaker 2: manage the workload down the stretch. But on the positive
- 6:24Speaker 2: side of things, Kratz, I mean, this is a true
- 6:27Speaker 2: clicking on all cylinders night for Milwaukee, including a lot
- 6:30Speaker 2: of power.
- 6:32Speaker 3: It's clicking on all cylinders. But I think it also
- 6:34Speaker 3: shows what they do have in the tank, because I
- 6:36Speaker 3: don't think Kyle Harrison was elite Kyle Harrison that we've seen.
- 6:41Speaker 3: So I'm not saying the Brewers are completely out of
- 6:44Speaker 3: the woods yet. I'm not saying He's going to be
- 6:46Speaker 3: throwing Game two and Logan Henderson throwing Game three after this,
- 6:50Speaker 3: but I love to see he's always going to get
- 6:52Speaker 3: swings and misses. He's got the pitch sneaks by guys.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Depending on the lineup, they just don't square it up
- 7:00Speaker 3: well or they don't hit it very well. But sometimes
- 7:02Speaker 3: when they do catch it, it goes a decent way.
- 7:06Speaker 3: I love the fact that it was only two hard hits.
- 7:08Speaker 3: I love the fact that he was able to push
- 7:12Speaker 3: through an outing. Yeah, you have five innings, but he
- 7:15Speaker 3: was able to push through it when he didn't have
- 7:17Speaker 3: his best stuff. You know, I think the Brewers' pictures
- 7:20Speaker 3: have dealt with some cramping issues. I think he dealt
- 7:24Speaker 3: with his last start or the start before, and it's
- 7:28Speaker 3: really just building him up to be that guy in
- 7:31Speaker 3: the postseason, which then brings me to the Mariners. Let's
- 7:34Speaker 3: say the Mariners do get to the postseason. They say
- 7:37Speaker 3: they do get to a spot where they somehow get
- 7:40Speaker 3: the third wildcard in the American League. This is the
- 7:44Speaker 3: kind of pictures you're gonna face in Game three. If
- 7:46Speaker 3: they don't figure out how to hit guys like this,
- 7:49Speaker 3: they're not even going to make it to Game three.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Because if a picture that's not on is shutting down
- 7:55Speaker 3: your lineup, how are you going to succeed in the
- 7:58Speaker 3: postseason where you didn't succeed last year? Because you didn't hit.
- 8:03Speaker 2: You hope that everyone gets hot. I don't know. Is
- 8:06Speaker 2: this a rhetorical question.
- 8:08Speaker 3: No, I'm just saying that's not even a it's not
- 8:11Speaker 3: even a question. It's more of a statement. But I
- 8:14Speaker 3: use the word how can you do it? Like you can't.
- 8:17Speaker 3: They have to somehow, they have to make an adjustment,
- 8:19Speaker 3: and I don't see the team making an adjustment. I
- 8:23Speaker 3: think the front office rarely do I say, oh man,
- 8:26Speaker 3: the front office made an adjustment. The front office brought
- 8:28Speaker 3: back Nailor. They thought ref Snyder was gonna be the
- 8:31Speaker 3: guy that would be like, Okay, look at the year
- 8:33Speaker 3: that he had last year. We're bringing him into to
- 8:37Speaker 3: Rake against lefties, We're gonna have We're gonna have a
- 8:40Speaker 3: nice platoon advantage out there, even though it's kind of
- 8:43Speaker 3: a duplicitous signing in the fact that they already have
- 8:46Speaker 3: Victor Roblace, you know so, But I thought I thought
- 8:51Speaker 3: res Schnyder was a was a good get for a
- 8:53Speaker 3: team that rarely does moves in the offseason, and they
- 8:56Speaker 3: tried to add to this offense, and it's just a
- 8:59Speaker 3: it's it's the same thing over and over. But it's
- 9:02Speaker 3: also the same thing that I'm not even seeing it
- 9:06Speaker 3: like level out. I'm seeing them kind of like fade
- 9:09Speaker 3: as the season goes on, which has been the Mariners
- 9:12Speaker 3: mo o. And you know, some of that's to travel,
- 9:15Speaker 3: some of that lack of depth whatever it is. But
- 9:19Speaker 3: the starting pitchers don't fade. So if it's the travel,
- 9:21Speaker 3: you would think every every player on the team would fade,
- 9:26Speaker 3: and it's you know, they have the starting pitching to
- 9:29Speaker 3: make a deep run, possibly even win the World Series.
- 9:33Speaker 3: I mean, i mean win the American League because the
- 9:35Speaker 3: American League's down. But the offense just they got it.
- 9:39Speaker 3: They got to kick it in the gear tomorrow, like
- 9:42Speaker 3: it has to it has to happen now mm hmm.
- 9:45Speaker 2: You just get it all out of the way in
- 9:47Speaker 2: one game that gets as ugly as it gets. Or
- 9:49Speaker 2: maybe you know, Gary Sanchez is just that good on
- 9:51Speaker 2: the mound as a position player for the Brewers. Nasty right,
- 10:00Speaker 2: Luis Laarra first home run against the position player? Do
- 10:02Speaker 2: you make fun of him in the club ass afterwards
- 10:04Speaker 2: if you're a teammate, like fun making fun of Yeah,
- 10:08Speaker 2: for sure.
- 10:09Speaker 3: But it's also your first big league homer in you know,
- 10:12Speaker 3: your whole life. You'll know who you hit your first
- 10:14Speaker 3: big league homer against, But you will also have it
- 10:19Speaker 3: on your stat sheet that you hit a big league
- 10:20Speaker 3: homer And I don't I mean, yeah, I don't care.
- 10:23Speaker 3: That's against a bit that's it's It may even be
- 10:25Speaker 3: tougher to hit against a posiness player.
- 10:26Speaker 2: I'm just saying, one day someone's gonna make Oh, who
- 10:30Speaker 2: is your first homer against? Revus Revas? What pictures Leo Rivas?
- 10:37Speaker 2: He's not a picture.
- 10:39Speaker 3: You must give me Rivas. That's six seven righty from
- 10:43Speaker 3: from Santiago, Dominican Republic. You know he used to throw
- 10:47Speaker 3: sink ninety eight to one hundred, and you're like, uh yeah,
- 10:52Speaker 3: maybe probably not him.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Mm hmmm, mm hmmm. What did you think of the
- 10:58Speaker 2: situation all the way back in the first ending of
- 11:00Speaker 2: this one where Jake Bowers had to dive back into
- 11:03Speaker 2: the plate and you know, said he was not trying
- 11:05Speaker 2: to knock the ball out of the club of cal Raley.
- 11:09Speaker 3: I would have said live. When I first watched it,
- 11:12Speaker 3: I was like, oh, it's one hundred percent, maybe not
- 11:15Speaker 3: as egregious as a Rod's slapping the ball out. But
- 11:19Speaker 3: then when you watch the replay and you know the
- 11:22Speaker 3: umpire's right there, right rate at the play. I would
- 11:26Speaker 3: agree with the umpire's discretion there. I don't think he
- 11:29Speaker 3: tried to I don't think he tried to slap it
- 11:33Speaker 3: out of his glove. I think he went right at
- 11:36Speaker 3: the glove, which I don't think is against the rule,
- 11:39Speaker 3: as we've just had the rule up. If you're if
- 11:42Speaker 3: you're listening on the pod, like reading the actual rule,
- 11:46Speaker 3: and you know, I think the umpire it's to the
- 11:49Speaker 3: umpire's discretion as meant as many rules are. But I
- 11:52Speaker 3: think he made the right call.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Mhmm. It's one game. I guess I'll finish with the
- 12:00Speaker 2: even though it's it might make the other side smile
- 12:03Speaker 2: since they got more runs out of it, And I
- 12:05Speaker 2: don't think you took it too seriously. But veteran forgetting
- 12:09Speaker 2: how many outs? Julio Rodriguez later on, It happens a
- 12:15Speaker 2: few times a year in our sport, right probably what
- 12:18Speaker 2: is the put the over under any Major League game
- 12:21Speaker 2: of true for getting out tossing ball into stands at
- 12:26Speaker 2: one and a half, two and a half, right.
- 12:28Speaker 3: So I'm I'm a set at three. I know we've
- 12:32Speaker 3: had two this year, you know, even even Hall of
- 12:35Speaker 3: famers have done it. I think it's one of those
- 12:38Speaker 3: things that you just you're playing with the you know,
- 12:42Speaker 3: the timing in your head. Should you always look at
- 12:44Speaker 3: the scoreboard? Yes, you're human, you make mistakes. The part
- 12:48Speaker 3: that I love about this, because this is the All
- 12:49Speaker 3: Smiles segment, what people don't know is I think Yellie
- 12:54Speaker 3: gets a RBI on that because you can't assume this.
- 13:00Speaker 3: The runner on third wasn't going to score. I get it,
- 13:03Speaker 3: they didn't make a play at them, but that is
- 13:04Speaker 3: a sackfly. He tagged up, scored RBI. He doesn't get
- 13:10Speaker 3: the second RBI. That's an unearned run. So Revos doesn't
- 13:14Speaker 3: get get an urn on there either. So that's huge.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Official scoring from Eric Kratz in All Smiles presented by
- 13:23Speaker 2: Lorraine Co to learn a little bit more about what
- 13:26Speaker 2: they're bringing to the table. Is a big launch week
- 13:29Speaker 2: for them where they've got a new product that is

- 14:11Speaker 2: on the show sometimes on FT What else do you
- 14:13Speaker 2: love about it? Krats?
- 14:15Speaker 3: Well, I have it on right now and I'm all
- 14:17Speaker 3: about quality. But you know what, you know how good
- 14:20Speaker 3: your clothes are when you're a parent and your kids
- 14:24Speaker 3: keep stealing all of it. My daughter stole the sweatshirt,
- 14:27Speaker 3: my son sole one of my t shirts. So it's
- 14:30Speaker 3: got to be nice looking.
- 14:31Speaker 2: And if it gets a little bit chillier then it's
- 14:34Speaker 2: layering season and they've got layers for the fall. Shop

- 14:53Speaker 2: That's fabletics dot com slash foul for seventy to eighty
- 14:59Speaker 2: percent off every as a new VIP. It's Miller time.
- 15:03Speaker 2: We have some light takes presented by Miller lte Let's
- 15:05Speaker 2: spend a couple of minutes on the Blue Jays and
- 15:07Speaker 2: also the storyline that has to do with al wildcard
- 15:11Speaker 2: teams deciding if they wanted to buy, sell or do
- 15:16Speaker 2: a little bit of both where they stand, and we'll
- 15:18Speaker 2: get KP's take on if it's bad for baseball to
- 15:22Speaker 2: be so close to a wildcard situation and then sell
- 15:25Speaker 2: away parts like the Orioles and the Tigers did. The
- 15:28Speaker 2: Blue Jays are unique situation, so we'll start here, of
- 15:30Speaker 2: course with UKP and get your thoughts on what they
- 15:32Speaker 2: did at the deadline and why it's working for them now.
- 15:35Speaker 2: And I think the latest version of that is Brett Bateman,
- 15:38Speaker 2: and that's someone that nationally was not well known, but
- 15:40Speaker 2: within the Blue Jays organization he was well known for
- 15:43Speaker 2: his club. Can you explain his impact so quickly to
- 15:47Speaker 2: this team and how of course trading away bar show
- 15:49Speaker 2: getting Araghetti, even though he might not be the biggest
- 15:51Speaker 2: contributor this year, has had some injuries, but getting Jose
- 15:54Speaker 2: Soriano could actually mean this team's better since the trade deadline.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Oh, I don't agree, or I do agree with that.
- 16:01Speaker 1: I do think they're a better team. And in terms
- 16:03Speaker 1: of Bateman, you know, it's always tough saying goodbye to
- 16:06Speaker 1: players that obviously helped the Blue Jays get in a
- 16:09Speaker 1: position that they were in last year, people that are
- 16:11Speaker 1: fan favorites, people that have done a lot for the organization.
- 16:14Speaker 1: And I'm referring to a guy like Dalton bar Show,
- 16:16Speaker 1: I'm referring to a guy like Kevin Gosman. But you know,
- 16:19Speaker 1: if you look at kind of the underlying metrics with
- 16:22Speaker 1: a guy like bar Show, he wasn't the same center
- 16:24Speaker 1: fielder that he was the previous year, and without him
- 16:28Speaker 1: really hitting to his potential and him being an impending
- 16:32Speaker 1: free agent at the end of the year, they had
- 16:34Speaker 1: to make a tough decision to kind of move on
- 16:36Speaker 1: with him. And I thought they did a tremendous job
- 16:39Speaker 1: in the return for him and getting a Spencer Arengetti,
- 16:42Speaker 1: someone who might not factor in right now, but all
- 16:45Speaker 1: signs are porting to him getting healthy. He had just
- 16:47Speaker 1: pitched in Triple A. He says he has no pain
- 16:50Speaker 1: with that foot or toe injury that he has. I
- 16:53Speaker 1: guess they made him a special orthotic for his shoe
- 16:56Speaker 1: or his cleat which has been bothering him. And I
- 16:59Speaker 1: think he's actually going to be meeting with the team
- 17:01Speaker 1: here in Tampa to throw a bullpen and kind of
- 17:03Speaker 1: talk about the next steps moving forward. In terms of
- 17:07Speaker 1: Brett Bateman, you know, you look at the numbers, he's
- 17:09Speaker 1: already kind of racked three outs above average. This is
- 17:14Speaker 1: exactly what they needed. I think the big question was
- 17:17Speaker 1: when Varshow was traded, who was going to step into
- 17:19Speaker 1: center field not only this year, but for you know,
- 17:22Speaker 1: the following couple of years. And I think the Blue
- 17:25Speaker 1: Jays front office, their scout department did a tremendous job
- 17:28Speaker 1: and finding a who more than likely was going to
- 17:31Speaker 1: be buried in the Chicago Cubs organization. You know, I
- 17:35Speaker 1: don't know if you've heard of the guy pe Crow
- 17:36Speaker 1: Armstrong who plays centerfield for the Cubs. I don't think
- 17:39Speaker 1: had a clear path to the major leagues there, so,
- 17:43Speaker 1: you know, and there was a lot of discussion amongst
- 17:46Speaker 1: Blue Jay fans that they felt like the return for
- 17:49Speaker 1: Kevin Gosman going to the Cubs was light and you know,
- 17:53Speaker 1: when Kevin Gosman obviously look at the back of his
- 17:55Speaker 1: baseball card, you know, a tremendous resume, but hadn't been
- 17:59Speaker 1: throwing the ball particularly well over his last handful of
- 18:02Speaker 1: starts for the Blue Jays. And once again, give the
- 18:05Speaker 1: front office scouting department a ton of credit for going
- 18:08Speaker 1: out and identifying this guy who could kind of fill
- 18:11Speaker 1: that void once they were able to trade Dalton Bar
- 18:13Speaker 1: show and obviously the big ticket item going out and
- 18:16Speaker 1: getting a guy like Jose Soriano. Arm talent like that
- 18:20Speaker 1: doesn't show up on your doorstop very often, and the
- 18:23Speaker 1: Blue Jays identified him as a guy they felt like,
- 18:26Speaker 1: very much like Dylan sees, who possesses world class stuff.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Can we get him into this ecosystem with Pete Walker,
- 18:33Speaker 1: our pitching department, the analytics department, and can we refine
- 18:37Speaker 1: some of the things that he already does better than
- 18:40Speaker 1: most people. And the early signs of what Jose Soriano
- 18:43Speaker 1: has been showing is showing him trending in that direction.
- 18:47Speaker 1: And there's not a lot you can do kind of mechanically,
- 18:50Speaker 1: but I think the biggest thing we've seen from Jose
- 18:52Speaker 1: Soriano is the pitch usage in Anaheim or in Los
- 18:56Speaker 1: Angeles with the Angels for whatever reason, they wanted him
- 18:59Speaker 1: using that force fastball a lot more. Early signs are
- 19:02Speaker 1: showing the Blue Jays want him to throw that sinker
- 19:04Speaker 1: a ton more and obviously that elite curveball, the combination
- 19:08Speaker 1: of those two pitches and then sprinkling in you know,
- 19:10Speaker 1: the split finger in the four scene. But you got
- 19:13Speaker 1: to give him a ton of credit for kind of
- 19:16Speaker 1: going out and buying and selling simultaneously. It's not really
- 19:19Speaker 1: easy to do that, and I think Blue Jay fans
- 19:22Speaker 1: have been really happy with their return.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Can we show that Mike Petriello tweet with the stat
- 19:28Speaker 2: cast metrics for Bateman, so he said, Bateman has been
- 19:31Speaker 2: up in the biggs for about ten minutes. He's already
- 19:33Speaker 2: quickly racking up fielding value, which is what his scouting
- 19:36Speaker 2: report indicated. Very cool to see, so showing already here
- 19:39Speaker 2: the three outs above average in five minutes. We actually
- 19:43Speaker 2: have seen this with him, and we mentioned this the
- 19:45Speaker 2: other day. Kratz, George Lombard Junior, both of them barely
- 19:48Speaker 2: playing so far and already kind of working their way
- 19:51Speaker 2: up to gain significant stats. Stats that for some defenders
- 19:54Speaker 2: they don't get for an entire year or they end
- 19:57Speaker 2: up in the negative. I guess the point here is
- 20:00Speaker 2: we have some guys who can make a major impact
- 20:02Speaker 2: in a short period of time with their glove, and
- 20:05Speaker 2: we are seeing a little bit with him.
- 20:08Speaker 3: I mean, it's credit to the Jays for giving him
- 20:11Speaker 3: a chance. Yes, he wasn't going to take over PCA.
- 20:14Speaker 3: There's a lot of organizations that are like, unless you're
- 20:18Speaker 3: catching or playing short, you know, obviously center field is
- 20:22Speaker 3: probably that third position defensively, maybe even fourth after third base,
- 20:27Speaker 3: where you're getting a ton of value. But with a
- 20:30Speaker 3: guy like Bateman, I think he had five or six
- 20:32Speaker 3: home runs his entire career in the minor leagues. Not
- 20:36Speaker 3: a power guy, so if he doesn't stick in center,
- 20:39Speaker 3: he's not going to play right field unless you play
- 20:42Speaker 3: in a place like Boston. So credit to the Blue
- 20:44Speaker 3: Jays for being able to see a guy that, you
- 20:47Speaker 3: know what, we want to continue our trend of defense
- 20:51Speaker 3: with Andre Samenez, with we had Dalton var show, you know,
- 20:56Speaker 3: we have gold behind the plate and Alejandro Kirk like,
- 20:59Speaker 3: they want to continue their defensive prowess and they plug
- 21:03Speaker 3: a guy in and gets a chance and he rewards them.
- 21:10Speaker 2: What about the topic of the way that the Blue
- 21:12Speaker 2: Jays handled the deadline, I know you mentioned KP versus
- 21:16Speaker 2: what some of their other contenders did. Remember we had
- 21:19Speaker 2: who was it? A Tim Barblace on the Orioles guest
- 21:23Speaker 2: for us yesterday, And I think it was important to
- 21:27Speaker 2: remind people that they were handing relievers away the last
- 21:31Speaker 2: couple of years to teams that are then shoving it
- 21:34Speaker 2: right back in their face, and that matters. That's a
- 21:37Speaker 2: team that could miss the playoffs by one, two, three games,
- 21:39Speaker 2: and you could look back at times like that.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Well, I think in the Blue Jays case, I don't
- 21:45Speaker 1: think the players were doing the front office any justice
- 21:47Speaker 1: by not coming out and playing really well. And then
- 21:50Speaker 1: the American League was the gift that just kept on
- 21:52Speaker 1: giving them. Like they weren't playing well, but they weren't
- 21:55Speaker 1: falling far enough behind to say, hey, we don't believe
- 21:58Speaker 1: this team has a turnaround him. And there was a
- 22:01Speaker 1: lot of times, as someone who covers the team, I
- 22:03Speaker 1: was ready to write him off. And then they would
- 22:05Speaker 1: go on this like little mini stretch. The rest of
- 22:07Speaker 1: the American League would kind of you know, falter, they
- 22:10Speaker 1: get themselves close to five hundred and then they lose
- 22:12Speaker 1: four games, and this was just kind of this cycle
- 22:14Speaker 1: that they kept running through. So the front office had
- 22:18Speaker 1: a really difficult decision to make, and they did. In
- 22:21Speaker 1: my opinion, it's an A plus trade deadline. They got
- 22:24Speaker 1: rid of some of the guys, and I know it
- 22:26Speaker 1: was emotionally really tough for the players, the organization, the
- 22:30Speaker 1: fan base to get rid of guys like Kevin Gosman,
- 22:32Speaker 1: who may go down as the greatest signing in Blue
- 22:35Speaker 1: Jay's history for what he did for the amount of
- 22:38Speaker 1: money they signed him at a time when a lot
- 22:40Speaker 1: of players didn't want to cross the border to play.
- 22:43Speaker 1: You know, he lived up to that contract and he
- 22:45Speaker 1: was you know, beyond what he did, you know, for
- 22:49Speaker 1: the team on the field, the things he did off
- 22:51Speaker 1: the field. It was a difficult decision. But to bring
- 22:54Speaker 1: back a guy like Jose Soriano and really kind of
- 22:56Speaker 1: swap those two players, I know they went different places,
- 22:59Speaker 1: but to bring a guy like that, you can't drop
- 23:03Speaker 1: a better deadline for them because the team. Once again,
- 23:06Speaker 1: the team didn't help their cause by not getting off
- 23:09Speaker 1: to a good start and then not playing really good baseball.
- 23:11Speaker 1: But you've kind of seen the direction this team has
- 23:15Speaker 1: really gone in after the trade deadline. I think there
- 23:17Speaker 1: was so much uncertainty up to the deadline, and then
- 23:20Speaker 1: you kind of get this shot in the arm of
- 23:22Speaker 1: a guy like Jose Soriano and then you kind of
- 23:24Speaker 1: get this unknown and Brett Bateman and he's just kind
- 23:26Speaker 1: of been, you know, just an absolute stud for them
- 23:29Speaker 1: in center field. You know, he's a pesky hitter, he's
- 23:32Speaker 1: running down stuff in center field. And I think the
- 23:34Speaker 1: fact that the players felt like the front office didn't
- 23:37Speaker 1: give up on him, in fact, they actually believed in him.
- 23:39Speaker 1: I think you're seeing a better product than the field
- 23:41Speaker 1: right now.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Last piece of the puzzle here is the team identity,
- 23:46Speaker 2: run prevention and pitching to an extent. Right, You've got
- 23:49Speaker 2: some good starters in here, and then I know they've
- 23:51Speaker 2: been missing many starters, but there's some good starting pitching
- 23:54Speaker 2: talent in here. And then of course Barland at the
- 23:57Speaker 2: back end to finish things off for Toronto. I ask
- 24:00Speaker 2: it just because they also have had the flatty junior
- 24:03Speaker 2: problem all year. He doesn't look himself. I believe they're
- 24:06Speaker 2: towards the bottom in some of the significant offensive categories, right,
- 24:10Speaker 2: I think.
- 24:12Speaker 1: In the bottom. The average per game still, yeah, runs
- 24:16Speaker 1: per game, batting average, runner, hitting with runners in scoring position,
- 24:21Speaker 1: hitting with the runners, and scoring two outs, they're near
- 24:24Speaker 1: the bottom and all those statistics. I mean, they're they're
- 24:26Speaker 1: middle of the pack with batting average, but look at
- 24:28Speaker 1: these other statistics, they're at the bottom of the pack
- 24:32Speaker 1: in those things. But no, I don't think coming into
- 24:35Speaker 1: the season that was their whole identity. I think they've
- 24:38Speaker 1: kind of morphed into the idea of, Okay, let's go
- 24:41Speaker 1: out and just get a better starting pitcher, Jose Soriano.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Let's add to the back of the bullpen. Let's go
- 24:47Speaker 1: get guys that can go really really go get it defensively.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I don't think this was their identity coming into the season.
- 24:54Speaker 1: After the season they had last year, you know, the
- 24:56Speaker 1: Blue j kind of change baseball a little, you know,
- 25:00Speaker 1: in their identity of the Blue Jays were just an
- 25:02Speaker 1: extremely tough team to strike out. They were putting the
- 25:04Speaker 1: ball in play, you know, and they were doing enough
- 25:07Speaker 1: damage home players, slugging enough. You know, they weren't a
- 25:10Speaker 1: top five team in home runs or slug but you know,
- 25:14Speaker 1: they were a top ten team. But I think just
- 25:17Speaker 1: with Vlady having the type of year he had, George
- 25:20Speaker 1: Springer having some natural regression from what he had last year,
- 25:24Speaker 1: Alejandro Kirk missing so much time this year, and he's
- 25:27Speaker 1: really starting to pick it up. You know, he's starting
- 25:29Speaker 1: to look like himself and be healthy. I think they
- 25:31Speaker 1: had no choice but to really kind of double down on,
- 25:35Speaker 1: you know, part of their identity, which was pitching and defense.
- 25:39Speaker 1: But you know, in a perfect world, I think that
- 25:40Speaker 1: would have been part of the puzzle. I think offensively,
- 25:43Speaker 1: they expected a lot more out of them this season.
- 25:46Speaker 1: It just hasn't really worked out for him.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Good Takes, Good Light Takes from KP on what we're

- 27:08Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Ooh, that's what he said. Presented by Lorraine co Let's
- 27:12Speaker 2: talk first about Fernando Tatis Junior. Shall we KP we
- 27:17Speaker 2: love when you have when we have you on to
- 27:19Speaker 2: talk a little bit of outfield robbery. He also hit
- 27:22Speaker 2: two home runs and a win for the Padres over
- 27:24Speaker 2: the Mets. I want to show the tweet first so
- 27:27Speaker 2: that we can do the full experience of kid dreaming
- 27:30Speaker 2: about this moment. Right This ad, two time Platinum glover,
- 27:33Speaker 2: many home run robberies in his career, is one of
- 27:35Speaker 2: the best athletes in the sport. Moving to the outfield
- 27:37Speaker 2: was a great move for him to show off that athleticism,
- 27:40Speaker 2: and aj caasfellow covers the team every day, gave us
- 27:43Speaker 2: that's what he said. Moment that's actually been talked about
- 27:45Speaker 2: over time, he said, had to be an especially cool
- 27:47Speaker 2: moment for Tatis. He once told US media that he
- 27:51Speaker 2: began working on home run robberies when he was a
- 27:53Speaker 2: ten year old kid living in New York while his
- 27:56Speaker 2: dad played for the Mets. Their apartment had a wall
- 27:59Speaker 2: just taller than he was, so he did what any
- 28:01Speaker 2: ten year old kid would do. KP. Many people were
- 28:05Speaker 2: saying they thought it was the best home run robbery
- 28:07Speaker 2: that Fernando Tatis Junior had ever done at City Field
- 28:11Speaker 2: last night.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Oh, I don't know if it was the best. I mean,
- 28:14Speaker 1: he's made some pretty incredible plays, but I think given
- 28:17Speaker 1: that context of how can you not be romantic about baseball,
- 28:21Speaker 1: there's a place he dreamed of, you know, going out
- 28:23Speaker 1: and making this catch in New York and City Field,
- 28:27Speaker 1: you know, considering the context too of you know, it
- 28:30Speaker 1: being bases loaded, you know what the Padres are trying
- 28:33Speaker 1: to accomplish this year. Incredible moment and under normal circumstances,
- 28:37Speaker 1: I would say, if you're not hitting him, go take
- 28:40Speaker 1: him away. But then he goes and it hits two
- 28:42Speaker 1: home runs the same day, So pretty incredible game for him,
- 28:47Speaker 1: you know, and it makes me think about what kind
- 28:49Speaker 1: of Joe Maddam was saying about a guy like c
- 28:51Speaker 1: J Abrams too. You know, we're talking about a former
- 28:53Speaker 1: shortstop and Fernando Tatis just kind of a freak athlete.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Sometimes when these guys, you know, fundamentally just struggle a
- 29:02Speaker 1: little bit at that position in the infield. Getting these
- 29:05Speaker 1: guys to go play the outfield and allowing to like
- 29:07Speaker 1: allow this best athlete to really come out of them.
- 29:09Speaker 1: And I think it's really kind of changed a lot
- 29:12Speaker 1: for Franandi of Tatis junior out there, you know, watching
- 29:15Speaker 1: him move out there, he looks like a natural born athlete.
- 29:17Speaker 1: He looks like an NFL wide receiver. He just gets
- 29:19Speaker 1: to go out there and be free, and you know,
- 29:21Speaker 1: I think for any outfielder. This is kind of the
- 29:25Speaker 1: epitome of what you kind of go to bed at
- 29:27Speaker 1: night thinking about doing. You know, you dream about the
- 29:30Speaker 1: opportunity of going up stealing a home run, and to
- 29:33Speaker 1: rob a Grand Slam is kind of like the epitome
- 29:36Speaker 1: of robbing a home run. And then once again, if
- 29:38Speaker 1: you factor in kind of the story behind it, it's
- 29:41Speaker 1: a really cool moment for him and obviously his dad too,
- 29:44Speaker 1: who you know, spend a lot of time in New York.
- 29:47Speaker 3: That's that's got I mean, as as a catcher, you're
- 29:50Speaker 3: sitting there, you're like, you're always in all of outfielders,
- 29:53Speaker 3: You're in all shortstops because you're like, I could never
- 29:57Speaker 3: do that. I could never even come close. And for
- 29:59Speaker 3: those in the chat who know, you know, you know,
- 30:01Speaker 3: call him a spade a spade. Wow, Fernando Tatis really
- 30:05Speaker 3: hit the ball far. It's probably still gonna hit about
- 30:07Speaker 3: twenty five homers this year. But hey, you know what,
- 30:09Speaker 3: I'm gonna call the guys out that I that have
- 30:12Speaker 3: called me out in the chat. So do you think
- 30:16Speaker 3: that the Padres turnaround has anything to do with the
- 30:19Speaker 3: fact that Fernando Tatis played forty three games at second
- 30:23Speaker 3: base out of necessity. I get it, they had injuries
- 30:26Speaker 3: and they need him to move back in, But now
- 30:29Speaker 3: that he's back at his I don't know if it's
- 30:32Speaker 3: even his natural position, because he definitely I saw his
- 30:35Speaker 3: big lead debut when he made it against us with
- 30:38Speaker 3: the Giants at shortstop. He's a natural shortstop. It just
- 30:41Speaker 3: didn't work out for whatever reason, whether it was because
- 30:44Speaker 3: his routes, his footwork, his arm accuracy, whatever it was.
- 30:49Speaker 3: He has given this team so much more value as
- 30:53Speaker 3: a right fielder that when you guys have guys out
- 30:56Speaker 3: of position, and made me think of it last night
- 30:59Speaker 3: because they're playing the men who have everybody out of position,
- 31:02Speaker 3: that when you have guys out of position, your team
- 31:05Speaker 3: just it's harder to win games. And you'll never be
- 31:07Speaker 3: able to put that in some type of algorithm, But
- 31:12Speaker 3: the Mets proved it. I think the Padres earlier. Yes
- 31:16Speaker 3: they didn't hit, but with him back in right field,
- 31:19Speaker 3: there's so much more value for this team to just
- 31:21Speaker 3: be an overall better team.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Do you agree KP on the outfields versus second base thing?
- 31:29Speaker 1: No, I mean, obviously it was out of necessity for
- 31:32Speaker 1: Fernando Tatist Junior but you know, for someone who played
- 31:35Speaker 1: only the outfielder, you know, especially when things aren't going
- 31:38Speaker 1: well offensively, there was a time for your brain to wander,
- 31:41Speaker 1: you start thinking mechanics. And I know it was necessity,
- 31:44Speaker 1: but I do feel like there was a little bit
- 31:46Speaker 1: of psychology in the fact they moved him back to
- 31:48Speaker 1: second base too. You get him a little bit closer
- 31:51Speaker 1: to the baseball, you get him not having so much
- 31:53Speaker 1: free time in the outfield. He's got to be super
- 31:55Speaker 1: engaged at second base. He's also playing a position he
- 31:58Speaker 1: hasn't played it in a long time, and it probably
- 32:00Speaker 1: really really got him engaged in the game. You know,
- 32:03Speaker 1: when when you're playing a position that you're not super
- 32:06Speaker 1: familiar with it, you're on high alert. You know, you're
- 32:09Speaker 1: you're so engaged with everything that's going on that you
- 32:11Speaker 1: almost forget about the other side of this ball for
- 32:14Speaker 1: that time being. And I think, like I said, I
- 32:17Speaker 1: think there was a lot of psychology behind it. There
- 32:19Speaker 1: was obviously some necessity, but putting him in what is
- 32:23Speaker 1: now his natural position. I know, initially he came up
- 32:25Speaker 1: as a short stop, but you know, from everything he's
- 32:28Speaker 1: been able to do since he's moved to the outfield.
- 32:31Speaker 1: That is where he belongs.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Mmm. Oh, he helped out a new friend, a new teammate.
- 32:36Speaker 2: And Robbie Ray too, by the way, who was making
- 32:39Speaker 2: what was it maybe his third, no more than his fourth,
- 32:42Speaker 2: maybe his third start with the p Andres.
- 32:45Speaker 1: And talk about psychology too. Almost a four run mistake
- 32:49Speaker 1: right there, and then your teammates, you know, goes up
- 32:52Speaker 1: and snatches it down like that's a confident too for
- 32:55Speaker 1: a pitcher.
- 32:56Speaker 3: That's four defensive runs saved. I would never be convinced
- 33:00Speaker 3: any other way. I get it. It's not four. You
- 33:03Speaker 3: don't get four.
- 33:05Speaker 1: It should be four.
- 33:06Speaker 3: He saved four runs on that play, and I looked
- 33:09Speaker 3: it up. The Padres were twenty and twenty three when
- 33:13Speaker 3: Fernando Tatis was playing at second base.
- 33:17Speaker 1: I'm just that is the most obvious four run defensive
- 33:20Speaker 1: run saved I've ever seen, because is if that ball
- 33:23Speaker 1: goes over one, two, three, four guys score, yeah, Grand Slam,
- 33:28Speaker 1: four runs he.
- 33:30Speaker 3: Saved Grand Slam. The best homer there is.
- 33:35Speaker 2: He created a whole swing of whatever it was seven
- 33:38Speaker 2: run swing or something yesterday he add up to two
- 33:40Speaker 2: members plus the four runs that he saved on the
- 33:43Speaker 2: Grand Slam. I mean that is Fernando Tatis basically winning
- 33:46Speaker 2: the game, not by himself, but you know what I'm.
- 33:50Speaker 3: Saying, he was the guy because he didn't write right now.
- 33:55Speaker 2: M M wait, two things go ahead, KP. First, I
- 34:00Speaker 2: want to address with Eric said.
- 34:02Speaker 1: No, no, I just said it's because he's playing right field.
- 34:04Speaker 1: That's why he changed the game. He's in his natural position.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Never move him off there again. Uh, Kratz, what'd you
- 34:10Speaker 2: say about Machado.
- 34:12Speaker 3: Machado is so hot right now?
- 34:15Speaker 2: Are you being serious or sarcastic? I genuinely can't tell
- 34:18Speaker 2: because he No, no, he's not. No, in July he was,
- 34:23Speaker 2: and then it dipped again in August, and then I
- 34:25Speaker 2: think this was his first home run of the month. No.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Yes, I've just been trolled. I've been trolled on Twitter.
- 34:30Speaker 2: So it is.
- 34:32Speaker 3: It is a It's a constant roller coaster of To me,
- 34:36Speaker 3: I think a really great player, which people will say, no,
- 34:40Speaker 3: he stinks, and then when he's doing well, they're like, see,
- 34:42Speaker 3: I told you, I think he's a really great player.
- 34:45Speaker 3: But he plays every day. We just talked to Joe
- 34:48Speaker 3: Madden about like you need breaks, Mane Machada does not
- 34:51Speaker 3: know breaks. He does not want to come out of
- 34:53Speaker 3: the game. So you're gonna have ups and downs at
- 34:56Speaker 3: this point in his career. But in my opinion, he's
- 35:00Speaker 3: it's still a really good player. I get it. He's
- 35:02Speaker 3: not hot right now. That was sarcasm. I'm sorry, but
- 35:06Speaker 3: he killed it in July. You play through injuries, you
- 35:09Speaker 3: play through nagging things, but the constant is Manny Machado
- 35:14Speaker 3: is always out there in that lineup.
- 35:17Speaker 4: See Geek is the official ticket marketplace for Major League Baseball,
- 35:20Speaker 4: and anytime you want to go to a game, you
- 35:22Speaker 4: should go to Sea Geek. I used to call the
- 35:24Speaker 4: director of team Travel, I used to call the traveling
- 35:26Speaker 4: secretary whatever they want to be called KP to try
- 35:28Speaker 4: to get a seat. But on sea Geek, I can
- 35:31Speaker 4: pick my own seat, and I can pick where I
- 35:33Speaker 4: want to sit instead of being told where to sit.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a great option. And summer is coming to
- 35:39Speaker 1: an end here soon. I'm going out and finding all
- 35:43Speaker 1: the day games possible, all the warm weather cities so
- 35:47Speaker 1: I could stay in this tank top I can watch
- 35:49Speaker 1: very competitive baseball as the calendar turns into fall. I
- 35:53Speaker 1: want to make sure that I get the most out
- 35:56Speaker 1: of this tank top and warm Weather and Sea Geek
- 35:59Speaker 1: is where I would go and get my seats.

- 36:16Speaker 2: Let's move to the Crossdown Classic. Another walk off for
- 36:21Speaker 2: the Cubs, another home run for p crow Armstrong. Alex
- 36:26Speaker 2: Bregman was mister clutching this one too. But here's Jesse
- 36:29Speaker 2: Rodgers pointing out, no surprise, P krow Armstrong, first player
- 36:32Speaker 2: in MLB history with two leadoff home runs and a
- 36:36Speaker 2: walk off home run in a two game span. Are
- 36:40Speaker 2: you cherry picking a little bit? I guess, but it's not.
- 36:42Speaker 2: I mean twice in a game, his first AB homer
- 36:47Speaker 2: and then the walk off his buddy Alex Bregman, who
- 36:51Speaker 2: I think has been a huge benefactor in him taking
- 36:54Speaker 2: another step at the plate, tying hit. Seventh walk off
- 36:59Speaker 2: hit the Cubs. And here's the quote. Let's go over
- 37:03Speaker 2: the quote from PCA about the whole series said, really
- 37:07Speaker 2: good for this city. You've got a second place team
- 37:09Speaker 2: in US, but a first place team in them. First
- 37:12Speaker 2: time they've been really competitive in a while. He said,
- 37:14Speaker 2: It's just really freakin cool that we put the product
- 37:17Speaker 2: out on the field together and go compete. So everybody's
- 37:20Speaker 2: excited about these two teams playing goodball. They're great games too.
- 37:23Speaker 2: I know they both went Chicago's way here to start KP,
- 37:27Speaker 2: but PI Kerr Armstrong has taken the next level because
- 37:30Speaker 2: I don't know if he's ever going to be the
- 37:32Speaker 2: most patient hitter at the plate. Is he ever going
- 37:33Speaker 2: to be that Alex Bregman. I don't know if he
- 37:36Speaker 2: even should be, but even getting a little bit, but
- 37:39Speaker 2: he doesn't. But do you see the way that he
- 37:41Speaker 2: is spitting at some pitches and also just waiting for
- 37:44Speaker 2: something to come to him, And that's where the damage
- 37:46Speaker 2: comes from. There's been quotes throughout the year of Alex
- 37:49Speaker 2: Bregman constantly in his head every day to make them
- 37:52Speaker 2: come to you, and I mean, you're seeing it, no.
- 37:55Speaker 3: Look at it.
- 37:55Speaker 1: And I got a chance to reach out and talk
- 37:57Speaker 1: to Alex Bregman in my career, but he was a
- 37:59Speaker 1: guy that I owe always wanted to play with for
- 38:02Speaker 1: one particular reason. There was these times in my career
- 38:05Speaker 1: and I was a lot like PCA and the fact
- 38:07Speaker 1: that I swung out a lot of things right, and
- 38:09Speaker 1: I would go and do research on some of the
- 38:11Speaker 1: betters in the game. And Alex Bregman is the most
- 38:14Speaker 1: disciplined hitter in baseball. Like his swing is only in
- 38:17Speaker 1: a certain percentage if that or in a part of
- 38:19Speaker 1: the zone. If that ball doesn't show up there, he
- 38:21Speaker 1: doesn't swing. So I always wanted to, you know, kind
- 38:24Speaker 1: of team up with him, be a teammate, learned from him.
- 38:27Speaker 1: And even if PCA could just learn get ten percent
- 38:31Speaker 1: better in that area, he's showing these MVP type of
- 38:36Speaker 1: skills on the on the field, and you know, look
- 38:40Speaker 1: at it. I mean, he's batt in two eighty one,
- 38:42Speaker 1: you know, three eighty on base percentage, so he's walking
- 38:46Speaker 1: out a ten percent clip right there. If he could
- 38:48Speaker 1: just get two or three percent better, I mean, we're
- 38:50Speaker 1: talking about a guy who potentially has a thousand ops
- 38:53Speaker 1: on the season. But I don't know what's more impressive
- 38:56Speaker 1: PCA doing what he did or someone actually find I
- 39:00Speaker 1: mean that that's the first time in Major League Baseball
- 39:02Speaker 1: history I'm always amazed at that they could find these things.
- 39:07Speaker 1: It's pretty incredible. But you know, even with Chicago White
- 39:11Speaker 1: Sox losing these two games, you've talked about how competitive
- 39:14Speaker 1: both these games are, and I think kind of the
- 39:17Speaker 1: jury is still out there. Who are the White Sox.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Are they going to be able to, you know, hold
- 39:22Speaker 1: off these other teams, you know, chasing them the division?
- 39:25Speaker 1: And there's a lot of talk about the Cubs. You
- 39:26Speaker 1: know that this is a legitimate contender to do some
- 39:30Speaker 1: damage in the postseason. And even though the White Sox
- 39:33Speaker 1: have lost both these games, I think they are showing
- 39:36Speaker 1: that they're for real and it's great for baseball when
- 39:39Speaker 1: both of these teams are good.
- 39:42Speaker 3: KP. Are you more impressed with the adjustments that Pa
- 39:46Speaker 3: has made at the plate or how much better of
- 39:50Speaker 3: a center fielder he is than everybody else in the game?
- 39:55Speaker 1: Wow?
- 39:56Speaker 3: Or do you not believe that either of those statements?
- 39:59Speaker 2: No.
- 40:00Speaker 1: I think the improvement that he's made at the plate
- 40:02Speaker 1: is is pretty remarkable. But I think to be that
- 40:08Speaker 1: much better at your position than the next guy, and honestly,
- 40:11Speaker 1: to be that much better at a position than pretty
- 40:14Speaker 1: much any other position in the game is pretty remarkable
- 40:17Speaker 1: and for someone that really prided himself on defense and
- 40:20Speaker 1: wanted to go out and accomplish great things defensively, what
- 40:23Speaker 1: he's doing, the numbers that he's putting up, and at
- 40:27Speaker 1: this point in my life, I still don't really know
- 40:29Speaker 1: how those numbers end up being the way they are.
- 40:31Speaker 1: I don't know how to compute them. But to me,
- 40:34Speaker 1: he passes the eyeball test. And you know, for someone
- 40:37Speaker 1: that was, you know, pretty good at playing center field,
- 40:40Speaker 1: when I watch him, the reads that he gets, the
- 40:43Speaker 1: instincts that he has, his abilit and you know, there's
- 40:45Speaker 1: a lot of guys that can really run at that position,
- 40:48Speaker 1: but there's a lot of people that don't take the
- 40:50Speaker 1: routes that he does. There's a lot of people that
- 40:52Speaker 1: have the instincts that he has. It's pretty incredible to
- 40:56Speaker 1: watch and what really really separates him from a lot
- 40:59Speaker 1: of other guys, And it doesn't get talked about in
- 41:01Speaker 1: its game because there's so many parts of his game
- 41:03Speaker 1: that we love. This guy's got an absolute cannon for
- 41:05Speaker 1: an arm too.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Do you know how many walkoffs the Cubs have?
- 41:12Speaker 3: Ten?
- 41:13Speaker 2: Just guess, Okay, that's your guess. That was closed for
- 41:17Speaker 2: both of you. Thirteen and do you know where it
- 41:20Speaker 2: ranks in baseball?
- 41:22Speaker 1: Number one.
- 41:25Speaker 3: Has to be number one, right, Yeah.
- 41:27Speaker 2: That's a lot of walkoffs. Thirteen walk off wins for
- 41:32Speaker 2: the Cubs this year. I mean, that's just fun. Thirteen
- 41:34Speaker 2: times fans at the ballpark. Places filled up for most
- 41:38Speaker 2: of the year and you're going home with the last
- 41:41Speaker 2: ab deciding the game for your favorite team. That's it's
- 41:46Speaker 2: good entertainment right there. It's been a fun way.
- 41:49Speaker 1: That's a good way to get people in the ballpark,
- 41:51Speaker 1: people to stay too.
- 41:54Speaker 2: It is. And I know the team right, like yeah,
- 41:57Speaker 2: And like PCA mentioned, they're not in first place. But
- 41:59Speaker 2: I mean, right now, if you're a Cubs fan, you
- 42:02Speaker 2: should be pretty excited. Right, You've got the MVP front runner,
- 42:07Speaker 2: Your team did things at the deadline, you're in the
- 42:09Speaker 2: playoff mix, you've had walkoffs, you've had entertainment. Right, You've
- 42:15Speaker 2: got a team that looks like it could be dangerous
- 42:17Speaker 2: in October based on what the pitching could combine into
- 42:20Speaker 2: when guys keep coming back and the run prevention.
- 42:23Speaker 1: KP No, No, that was going to be my question
- 42:26Speaker 1: to you guys. Okay, let's move forward. You know they
- 42:29Speaker 1: play in the wildcart round? Who do you roll out?
- 42:31Speaker 1: Who's your three guys that you're trusting in that rotation?
- 42:37Speaker 1: You know, because the way it sits right now, with
- 42:39Speaker 1: the kind of sizeable lead that they have, much different
- 42:42Speaker 1: than last year when they had to run Matthew Boyd
- 42:44Speaker 1: out there on short rest. Let's assume that, you know,
- 42:48Speaker 1: they stay in this position that they're in and they
- 42:50Speaker 1: can actually set that rotation for how they wanted to
- 42:53Speaker 1: look in the first run of the postseason. Who do
- 42:55Speaker 1: you roll out there? You know, Kevin Gosfler's got to
- 42:57Speaker 1: be one of the guys. You went out and acquired
- 42:59Speaker 1: him for this moment. But who's the other guys in
- 43:02Speaker 1: that rotation you trust?
- 43:04Speaker 2: I don't think it's hard for three. I mean I
- 43:06Speaker 2: think go ahead, Krats, you go first. You're the former ear.
- 43:09Speaker 2: What do you got?
- 43:10Speaker 1: Three?
- 43:10Speaker 3: Three is easy to pick in my opinion, depending on
- 43:13Speaker 3: how Clay Holmes, how he pitches, you know, what happens there.
- 43:17Speaker 3: I think he could he could slide anywhere into that three.
- 43:20Speaker 3: He could be a bullpen piece depending on how he
- 43:22Speaker 3: comes back. I was just on I was just on
- 43:26Speaker 3: Fox Chicago this morning and we were talking about it.
- 43:30Speaker 3: There is no clear number one. There's no Game one.
- 43:34Speaker 3: Even as they're setting it up, there's no clear number one.
- 43:37Speaker 3: Do I think Kevin Gosman's splitter is the best pitch
- 43:42Speaker 3: in that starting rotation to go into the playoffs? Yes,
- 43:46Speaker 3: I think certain types of pitches play in the playoffs.
- 43:49Speaker 3: I think that high riding fastball plays because aggression is
- 43:54Speaker 3: paramount in the playoffs. But if you're the Cubs right now,
- 44:00Speaker 3: you're like, who throws Game one? I get it. Fortunately
- 44:06Speaker 3: it's still only August, so we're fine. But how much
- 44:10Speaker 3: do you have faith in whoever the first person you're
- 44:14Speaker 3: throwing out there is?
- 44:17Speaker 2: Kevin Gosman's battle tested and as long as he's feeling good.
- 44:20Speaker 2: I know he left the start early, but it wasn't
- 44:22Speaker 2: anything big. As long as he's feeling good in October, yeah,
- 44:25Speaker 2: cramp Gosman Clay Holmes right now, and it's got to
- 44:29Speaker 2: be a little bit fresh, the arms fresh this year
- 44:32Speaker 2: like last year. You're worried. Okay, first full season starting.
- 44:34Speaker 2: I mean he missed a good chunk of the year
- 44:36Speaker 2: and it wasn't an arm injury, so that's good. And
- 44:40Speaker 2: then Boyd and Im and Agua are there. I mean
- 44:41Speaker 2: that that's a decent four to choose from in my mind.
- 44:46Speaker 3: But there's no number one. Who's game one because here's
- 44:49Speaker 3: because here's here's where.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Kevin Gosmin was was a number one ish starter last
- 44:54Speaker 2: year for the Blue Jays through their run. You think
- 44:56Speaker 2: it's that much of a drop off from last year
- 44:58Speaker 2: to this year.
- 44:59Speaker 3: I don't see the same I don't see the same
- 45:01Speaker 3: Kevin Gosman. I don't see him out there on the mound.
- 45:03Speaker 3: Maybe it's usage, maybe it's not. I do love that splitter.
- 45:06Speaker 3: I have no problem with him being the number one,
- 45:08Speaker 3: But you go comparatively, you face the Brewers, you're facing
- 45:12Speaker 3: the miss I'm not saying they're gonna face the Brewers.
- 45:14Speaker 1: I'm saying, let's, hey, let's talk about a team that
- 45:16Speaker 1: they would face in the first round, because we're assuming
- 45:18Speaker 1: maybe Dodgers.
- 45:19Speaker 3: Philly Phi Phi, Zack Wheeler, Christopher Sanchez. You know the
- 45:24Speaker 3: Phillies have three better number one, the Dodgers, Yamamoto, Glass,
- 45:29Speaker 3: now Snell, Whoever's coming out there. Like that's where that's
- 45:33Speaker 3: where my concern where it's just like, oh no, like
- 45:38Speaker 3: did they mess up by not finding that number one?
- 45:41Speaker 3: I think they've made a really nice team. But without
- 45:44Speaker 3: that number one, I'm fearful the Diamondbacks.
- 45:48Speaker 2: Shoot.
- 45:48Speaker 3: Even if the Diamondbacks make it in, I'm not saying
- 45:50Speaker 3: they're going to at that point in the year, they
- 45:52Speaker 3: might have to face Corbyn Burns first game of the
- 45:55Speaker 3: year the Padres. Okay, I think the Padres are kind
- 45:58Speaker 3: of kind of in that that same realm. I think
- 46:01Speaker 3: Michael King probably throws the first game of a series,
- 46:05Speaker 3: unless I'm forgetting somebody right now, Casey Mies maybe. I
- 46:11Speaker 3: think Casey Mies is probably in the Gosman type of
- 46:14Speaker 3: could he start up game one? Yeah, the Padres are
- 46:16Speaker 3: looking to get to the bullpen. That's what the Padres
- 46:18Speaker 3: are looking to get to. But it just feels like
- 46:21Speaker 3: you're a little short.
- 46:26Speaker 2: That's fair. Is there number one matching up against some
- 46:30Speaker 2: of the other number ones that you just mentioned, which
- 46:32Speaker 2: are some of the best number ones in baseball that
- 46:34Speaker 2: happen to reside in the National League. That's fair. Still
- 46:37Speaker 2: like the team?
- 46:38Speaker 1: Yeah? I like the Yeah, I love the team. It's
- 46:40Speaker 1: just number one aside, it just doesn't feel like you
- 46:44Speaker 1: even have a guy that you know has the stuff
- 46:47Speaker 1: at this point right now that can go five innings.
- 46:51Speaker 1: And not give up a run. It just feels like
- 46:53Speaker 1: it's going to be so reliant on the offense having
- 46:56Speaker 1: to score runs. At this point, I'm lucky for them.
- 46:59Speaker 1: You know, the weather cools down a little bit, hopefully
- 47:01Speaker 1: in October. You never know if Clay Homes really kind
- 47:04Speaker 1: of regained for one guy that you feel like could
- 47:07Speaker 1: shut down an offense, you know, and obviously Kevin Gosman's
- 47:10Speaker 1: battle tested. But beyond that, you know, that's really concern
- 47:15Speaker 1: is I love the team, I love the offense. How
- 47:18Speaker 1: could you not love their defense. It's the best defense
- 47:21Speaker 1: in baseball. You could keep the ball in the yard,
- 47:24Speaker 1: you've got a chance to get out. But that's really
- 47:26Speaker 1: the only concern right now is the starting pitching. Kind
- 47:30Speaker 1: of the elite of the elite starting pitching. They have
- 47:32Speaker 1: a ton of depth, which you know could serve them
- 47:34Speaker 1: well in a long postseason series. But we're talking about
- 47:37Speaker 1: a three game series, trying to get out of it,
- 47:39Speaker 1: having to go up against you know, a Wheeler Sanchez Lozardo,
- 47:44Speaker 1: you know, having to go up maybe against a Chris
- 47:46Speaker 1: Saal and whoever kind of follows him, and you know
- 47:49Speaker 1: that's where the concern is.
- 47:53Speaker 2: Good start for them in this series, showing us some
- 47:55Speaker 2: good signs and pas on fire. All right, that's what
- 47:59Speaker 2: he's said, and it is presented by Lorraine Co. Baseball fans,

- 50:13Speaker 2: goes on the shelf, and then we get to that
- 50:15Speaker 2: time of year where things get tight on some of
- 50:18Speaker 2: these injuries and you wonder if they're coming back. Tyler
- 50:23Speaker 2: Soderstrom is one of those season ending hip surgery for him,
- 50:26Speaker 2: that's going to happen on Friday. Disaster lost season for
- 50:31Speaker 2: the as they did not have enough pitching, some of
- 50:33Speaker 2: the core position players did not take the next step
- 50:36Speaker 2: or were hurt. Bad bad year. I also just think
- 50:40Speaker 2: playing in a minor league park is going to take
- 50:42Speaker 2: a toll on the team. In general, it just feels
- 50:45Speaker 2: like a battle. I mean, I know it's a crazy theory,
- 50:48Speaker 2: crazy theory, but just hang with me here. Playing in
- 50:51Speaker 2: nicer facilities with a plus professional grade equipment, technology, etc.
- 50:58Speaker 2: More helpful than the d CD quality And Ken Rosenthal's
- 51:03Speaker 2: article on the A's was incredible too. I think some
- 51:05Speaker 2: people don't realize a team that used to be known
- 51:06Speaker 2: as moneyball for being very analytically focused and driven, is
- 51:10Speaker 2: actually basically at the bottom of the barrel. Now why
- 51:13Speaker 2: is that they barely have anyone working in that department
- 51:16Speaker 2: so they were not arming David Forced much. Why because
- 51:19Speaker 2: the owner didn't want to. So it's kind of crazy.
- 51:21Speaker 2: The team that was part of start starting the stir
- 51:25Speaker 2: has Like, for example, if you look at the Rays
- 51:27Speaker 2: or the Brewers' front office and their ops and their
- 51:29Speaker 2: research and development and all those categories, they've got like
- 51:33Speaker 2: five six x the employees. Then the A's do.
- 51:37Speaker 1: Well, where are they gonna go? In Sacramento they had
- 51:39Speaker 1: only even have facilities for their staff to sit in.
- 51:43Speaker 1: But you're talking crazy. There's no way you can correlate
- 51:46Speaker 1: bad facilities with bad performance. I don't know what you're
- 51:49Speaker 1: talking about, Scotty.
- 51:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean the the Rays team really changed a
- 51:53Speaker 3: lot from last year, except they went back to a
- 51:56Speaker 3: big league park and now they're in the American League. Like,
- 52:02Speaker 3: I just wish we had more examples of how teams
- 52:06Speaker 3: would start out on a field that's played on every
- 52:10Speaker 3: single day at the beginning of the season and now
- 52:11Speaker 3: they're doing well, Like Sacramento field is an absolute travesty.
- 52:16Speaker 3: And it's not the field conditioned people, or it's not
- 52:19Speaker 3: the grounds crew. It's played on for one hundred and
- 52:22Speaker 3: eighty straight days. It just can't be a facility, let
- 52:27Speaker 3: alone cages. Your dugout is not connected to the clubhouse.
- 52:32Speaker 3: The clubhouse is in left field. The facilities around like
- 52:36Speaker 3: support staff, training rooms. Oh but it's fine. We're gonna
- 52:41Speaker 3: be in Las Vegas in twenty eight, maybe twenty nine,
- 52:44Speaker 3: but we'll be there.
- 52:45Speaker 2: The neglect there right now, it's painful. It's painful to
- 52:49Speaker 2: watch Edwin Diaz. Since we last spoke, US three placed
- 52:52Speaker 2: on the injured list and its neck inflammation. I'm never
- 52:57Speaker 2: going to judge. I just hadn't heard that one before.
- 53:00Speaker 2: Neck inflammation for him below was down, so there's something
- 53:03Speaker 2: to figure out. Originally it was like upper body situation.
- 53:07Speaker 2: Than the official diagnosis is neck inflammation.
- 53:10Speaker 1: So well, breaking news, breaking news. I will not be
- 53:14Speaker 1: on the show tomorrow because I also have neck inflammation
- 53:17Speaker 1: right now, so I'm taking the day off tomorrow.
- 53:22Speaker 2: And is that caused by like looking a certain way
- 53:25Speaker 2: for too long? What's next inflammation?
- 53:27Speaker 1: Well, sometimes when I sometimes when the head, I think
- 53:31Speaker 1: next inflammation is really caused by when you're looking this
- 53:34Speaker 1: way and the ball hit that way really fast, you
- 53:37Speaker 1: could get a little bit of.
- 53:38Speaker 3: Inflammation in the next whiplash we used to call it whiplash.
- 53:41Speaker 3: But yeah, my next is sore. But see, I feel
- 53:44Speaker 3: like I've had a really good day, So I'm coming
- 53:46Speaker 3: back tomorrow.
- 53:47Speaker 2: KP awesome, that's great. Uh. Two more Masatake Yoshida significant
- 53:53Speaker 2: hamstring strain. He might be out until the end of
- 53:57Speaker 2: the regular season, at least, according to his manager or
- 54:00Speaker 2: Chad Tracy. But it's not all negative. Roman Anthony hit
- 54:02Speaker 2: a danger yesterday at Double A Portland. Everybody saw that,
- 54:06Speaker 2: and they're like, call him up right now, call him
- 54:08Speaker 2: up right now. He's ready, since he's been hurt. He's
- 54:13Speaker 2: been out for over one hundred days.
- 54:15Speaker 1: I was gonna say, tough blow. You know, obviously the
- 54:17Speaker 1: Red Sox with the turnaround, you know, getting a guy
- 54:19Speaker 1: like you sheet it out of a lineup. But I mean, geez,
- 54:22Speaker 1: does this not scream like, hey, I know you've been
- 54:25Speaker 1: out for one hundred days. One dinger is all I
- 54:28Speaker 1: need to see. I'm calling him right now, putting him
- 54:30Speaker 1: in the DH spot bubble wrap it I get crazy.
- 54:36Speaker 3: No, I mean no, I wouldn't. And the people I
- 54:39Speaker 3: talked to said he's going to make his he's going
- 54:43Speaker 3: to make his rehab assignments, Like we're not talking about
- 54:46Speaker 3: a dude that's thirty four, like a Bryce Harper that
- 54:49Speaker 3: was out for one hundred days, and then says, I
- 54:52Speaker 3: know what I need. I think it's a little bit different.
- 54:55Speaker 3: Roman Anthony's like, you know, he's just finishing his junior
- 54:58Speaker 3: year of high school. He's so young. There's it's okay
- 55:02Speaker 3: to take time, especially when you're talking about hand wrist
- 55:05Speaker 3: fingers like that area. Take your time.
- 55:10Speaker 2: It's funny. He's gonna show up in the clubhouse and
- 55:12Speaker 2: be like, what did I miss? They're gonna be like, actually,
- 55:14Speaker 2: if you just closed your eyes and woke up in
- 55:16Speaker 2: mid August, this is about where we thought we would be.
- 55:18Speaker 2: We just didn't land there the way we thought we'd
- 55:20Speaker 2: get there. But I think without him figured no, but
- 55:23Speaker 2: most people probably figured, oh, yeah, the Red Sox they're
- 55:25Speaker 2: gonna be one of the wild seats.
- 55:27Speaker 1: Yeah, and just a completely different staff. You know, maybe
- 55:31Speaker 1: go around the room and introduce yourself to some of
- 55:33Speaker 1: the coaches.
- 55:33Speaker 3: Too good call, but no, no way. When they said no,
- 55:39Speaker 3: we're not going to meet Bregman's demands, did the Red
- 55:42Speaker 3: Sox go, Yeah, we'll be fine as long as Roman
- 55:45Speaker 3: Anthony's out for the season. No, No, we're gonna miss
- 55:48Speaker 3: one hundred days of Roman Anthony. They're like, Bregman, how
- 55:52Speaker 3: much did you want? Like they leaned this season on
- 55:55Speaker 3: Roman Anthony and said we need him to be the
- 55:58Speaker 3: superstar and that's unfair to him. But look at where
- 56:03Speaker 3: they are at now.
- 56:04Speaker 2: Yep, exactly. News on Max Freed sounds like it could
- 56:07Speaker 2: be positive or he won't be out for too long.
- 56:09Speaker 2: So that was good. Max freed low level inflammation in
- 56:11Speaker 2: the elbow, hoping he's okay. Good dude, great pitcher. Yanks
- 56:15Speaker 2: need him for the playoffs and on the Hunter Goodman Injury.
- 56:19Speaker 2: Mile High Territory just came out with an episode to
- 56:21Speaker 2: explain more about one of the best catchers in baseball,
- 56:25Speaker 2: Kratz hats on the way out while I show another
- 56:28Speaker 2: We're gonna have to come up with some segment to
- 56:29Speaker 2: show up with shirt Scrats.
- 56:31Speaker 3: Well, that's why I wore my shirt. I mean, and
- 56:33Speaker 3: my my hat matches my shirt. I got the DR
- 56:38Speaker 3: shirt and I'm wearing maybe a future DR captain, maybe
- 56:43Speaker 3: a five hundred home runs and by the end of
- 56:45Speaker 3: his career Junior Cameronaro, who by the way, is also
- 56:49Speaker 3: like twelve years old. But I'm wearing the DR hat
- 56:52Speaker 3: to go with my fout Territory Shop dot Com Junior
- 56:56Speaker 3: Camanaro shirt.
- 56:57Speaker 1: It's any plays in any plays in a big league stadium.
- 57:02Speaker 3: Big league stadiums don't matter, KP, they don't murder.
