- 0:00Speaker 1: Again eyebrow raising results happening so far in Major League Baseball,
- 0:08in the in the playoffs and the wildcard said.
- 0:10Speaker 2: The only thing, the only one that.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Has not been any kind of real surprise, has been
- 0:20the one in San Diego. The Padres shut out the
- 0:23Braves last night for to nothing. Fernando Tattis Junior in
- 0:26a monstrous home run in the game. Michael Kelly pitched
- 0:29really well at the start for the Padres. It it would
- 0:31be hard to beat. Gene Watson, you know, our MLB
- 0:35insider from the Chicago White Sox front office, joined us
- 0:38on the program yesterday. He picked the Patterys to win
- 0:40the World Series, all of it. He picked him to
- 0:43win the Wildcard series. Of the Braves, he picked them
- 0:46to beat the Dodgers in the Division Series and then
- 0:49to beat the Phillies in the National League Championship Series.
- 0:53And then he said the San Diego Padres would win
- 0:57the World Series over the Cleveland guard He thinks the Guardians,
- 1:02and again the Guardians get the winner of this Detroit
- 1:04Houston series. And again if the Tigers find a way
- 1:08to win this thing, and it's two to two in
- 1:09the eighth right now, and They've got two runners on
- 1:12with two outs, including the go ahead running and scoring
- 1:15position at second base.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Ryan Presley's out of the pen.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Now for Houston, if they find a way to get
- 1:19the lead in this and now the bases are loaded
- 1:22on a walk. If they find a way to get
- 1:24the lead and then they win that series, you'd have
- 1:27one of the favorites, one of the hotter teams going
- 1:29into the postseason. Houston out in two straight at home,
- 1:34but it's not done yet. There are two outs in
- 1:37the inning, and there's going to be a pitching change there.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:41Speaker 1: At minute they parked. The Astros have to win to
- 1:43force a final game tomorrow, so that has that has
- 1:47to happen.
- 1:49Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:49Speaker 1: And then uh and Josh Hader I think is coming
- 1:52out of the Houston pen and then Uh, same thing
- 1:55with Baltimore. Baltimore was one of the hotter teams. They'd
- 1:58slumped a little bit and then got hotting in right
- 2:00toward the end. Kansas City had done the exact same
- 2:03thing after having this incredible season what with Kansas City
- 2:08losing over one hundred games last year and a great
- 2:12season this year for the Royals to get to the
- 2:15wild Card round and we'll see what happens in that
- 2:19series in Baltimore and again if they win one more
- 2:23than they go on to New York.
- 2:26Speaker 2: So now we go on.
- 2:28Speaker 1: We get ready to go on to the next.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Hour of the program.
- 2:34Speaker 1: We got one more hour of the program to bring
- 2:37you and when we get going in this final hour
- 2:43of the program, we'll be joined.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Relatively early in the hour.
- 2:53Speaker 1: By the play by play voice of the Houston Texans,
- 2:56Mark Vandermere Bill join us. Well, here's some more from

- 4:37does and hopefully he'll be better. Also, Andrews m will
- 4:39be on the program tomorrow. I'm out tomorrow and Friday,
- 4:42but we have Khalil Randall running things and keeping us
- 4:45on the air this afternoon. So we have one more
- 4:51hour of the program, the updating the baseball for you
- 4:55right now. Houston and Detroit tied it to Tiger's batting
- 4:58with the bases loaded and two outs on the top
- 5:01of the eighth inning. Most of the scoring has happened
- 5:04late in this contest.
- 5:05Speaker 2: In fact, a basis loaded walk? Is that? What? It was?
- 5:11A basis loaded walk issued by Josh? Is that? Well?
- 5:14Speaker 1: I said, no, I guess it was just time called
- 5:16out of that. So the base is still loaded with
- 5:19two outs. Yeah, it was a basis loaded walk, and
- 5:21the Tigers have taken the lead again. It's three to two.
- 5:24Josh Hater just issued a basis loaded walk with two
- 5:27outs in the eight. Spencer Torklesen drew the walk and
- 5:32has just gone the first base in de Troy has
- 5:34now gone back in front of Houston.
- 5:35Speaker 2: It is three to two.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Is the Tiger's bat in the top of the eighth
- 5:38inning with two outs, and that against Josh Hater, the closer.
- 5:41Speaker 2: So that's what's happened in this game. I say it
- 5:46was a basis loaded walk.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Torkleson went down the first I guess it just loaded
- 5:49the bases there and the graphic headed walks and the
- 5:52bases are still two two. Sorry, did meta Panicastros fans
- 5:55are I'm watching on a very very small monitor and
- 5:58it didn't have the out indicator listed on there. They
- 6:02do now it's still just two two. It's not a
- 6:04three to two boggame. It's two two. The bases are
- 6:07loaded now though, as Josh Hater issued a two outwalk,
- 6:11so Tiger still batting two to two. Top of the
- 6:14eighth two outs. Kansas City continues to leave Baltimore. It's
- 6:18one to nothing as the Royals lead the Ools. That's
- 6:20in the top of the second inning, and that contest
- 6:24at the Oriel Park at Camden Yards, So we'll keep
- 6:27you updated on those. Walgmurt's head coach Steve Sarksan took
- 6:30part in the SEC teleconference today and one of the
- 6:37questions that he was asked was about the thing about
- 6:42learning to play with emotion but not play emotion is
- 6:45It's something we've heard sark mentioned quite a bit in
- 6:48the past. He says, we want our guys to play
- 6:50with emotion, but we don't want them to play emotionally,
- 6:54and he explained how he came into that mindset. Like
- 6:58with so many other things, all roads lead back to
- 7:00Nick Saban.
- 7:01Speaker 3: I had a hard time putting it into words. O
- 7:05Saban more eloquently used this term that I'm referencing that
- 7:10I kind of took with me because it really resonated
- 7:12with me. I didn't know how to say it, but
- 7:15I knew what he was meaning. And then once he
- 7:17said it the way that he said it, like I said,
- 7:19it resonated with me and I've kind of carried it
- 7:21with me ever since.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Okay, all right, that was that was one thing, and
- 7:24then one other question was asked, and there's a lot
- 7:28of experience in this, and it's all about the backup quarterback.
- 7:34When Sartin played at b YU, really even when he
- 7:36played at El Caamuno Community College in California, he had
- 7:41been a backup quarterback and then and then had.
- 7:44Speaker 2: A great sophomore season.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Then he went to BYU and rolled in initially as
- 7:50a backup and then became the starter and had a
- 7:52great finish to his collegiate career at BYU. UH since
- 7:57he has been the head coach of Texas, he had
- 8:00had to turn to the backup quarterback on several occasions.
- 8:04That has happened as well. So because of that, it
- 8:10has been a situation where he's you know, you think
- 8:13about it when he had had some card on back
- 8:16and Casey Thompson was there and all of that sort
- 8:18of thing. And of course since Quinn yours has been
- 8:23the starter, he's had to turn to the backup quarterback.
- 8:26But that was due to injury Malik Murphy having to
- 8:28come on for Quinn the last couple of seasons and
- 8:32then of course earlier the season Arch Manning having to
- 8:35step in when Quinn was injured. So he was asked
- 8:39about that and about getting the backup quarterback's reps so
- 8:43that they can be well prepared for the eventuality if
- 8:47he has to go to a backup quarterback.
- 8:49Speaker 3: And when I was a starter, I never wanted the
- 8:51backup to coming to the game, even for a play.
- 8:54And I remember my senior year of college, I have
- 8:57been banged up and the coaches wanted to run a
- 9:01quarterback draw.
- 9:02Speaker 5: Honey, you're not.
- 9:06Speaker 3: They called the play and they called the planet. I
- 9:08scored a touchdown, So you know, I've got respect for
- 9:11a guy who's the starting quarterback and the rhythm that
- 9:14it's needed to play with. So no, that's not something
- 9:17I've ever entertained.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Okay, So there it is, and some thoughts there from
- 9:25Longhorn's head coach Steve Sarkishan.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Okay.
- 9:28Speaker 1: In Houston, it has been broken open, at least for
- 9:34the moment. A big two out, bases clearing double, my
- 9:43pinch hitter Andy A Bonyez has cleared off the bases
- 9:48and the Tigers have taken a five to two lead
- 9:50on the Astros. Astros just recorded the final out of
- 9:53the inning, but at Bonyees with a bass is clearing
- 9:56double to score three runs and the Astros down to
- 10:00six house left in their season right now, going to
- 10:02the bottom of the eight Tigers up five to two,
- 10:04having one game one yesterday.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Three to one. We'll keep you updated on that, all right.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Coming up next, we'll visit with the play by play
- 10:12voice of the Houston Texans, Mark vandermir to talk about
- 10:15the Texans and their battles in the AFC South. That's
- 10:17next when we continue here on this Wednesday afternoon on
- 10:20Sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone of the iHeartRadio
