- 0:02Speaker 1: This is a Bramble Jam podcast. Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark,
- 0:24Speaker 1: a Hallmark review podcast. I'm Megan and I'm a longtime
- 0:26Speaker 1: Hallmark fan. I'm Wendy. I'm a former Hallmark hater. Today
- 0:29Speaker 1: we're continuing our First Impression series where we review the
- 0:32Speaker 1: pilot episodes of the series of the series streaming on
- 0:36Speaker 1: Hallmark Plus. We're watching it so you don't have to,
- 0:39Speaker 1: but maybe you should. Let's find out. Today we're talking
- 0:43Speaker 1: When Calls the Heart, which began airing in twenty fourteen.
- 0:49Speaker 1: If you want to hang out with us on the
- 0:50Speaker 1: podcast is so over, follow us on Instagram. We are Girls
- 0:53Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark. Hey, we have a Facebook group. It is
- 0:56Speaker 1: called Girls Gone Hallmark. It's a nice place for you know, well,
- 1:01Speaker 1: fans of Hallmark movies, fans of Girls Gone Hallmark talking
- 1:04Speaker 1: the good, the bad, and the ugly over on Girls
- 1:07Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark Facebook group. And we have yet another review
- 1:11Speaker 1: to read today from a listener who took my suggestion
- 1:15Speaker 1: last week of leaving Girls Gone Hamewark a rating and
- 1:18Speaker 1: a review in the Apple podcast app. And if you're
- 1:20Speaker 1: listening and you haven't done that, we would love it
- 1:22Speaker 1: if you would do it. Here's an example of a
- 1:24Speaker 1: recent five star review from Nicole titled this Girl Fell
- 1:28Speaker 1: down a Hallmark rabbit Hole. She says, given the current
- 1:31Speaker 1: side of the world, I turned to Hallmark as a
- 1:33Speaker 1: mental escape over the holidays. However, when a friend recommended
- 1:37Speaker 1: Megan and Wendy's podcast, my escape transformed into an almost
- 1:40Speaker 1: full time job of catch up watching Girls Gone. Hallmark
- 1:44Speaker 1: provides insightful, charming, hilarious reviews that give me the feeling
- 1:48Speaker 1: of chatting with friends over coffee. Highly recommend you add
- 1:51Speaker 1: these ladies to your lineup. Didn't I tell you last
- 1:56Speaker 1: week when we recorded, because you were like, I have
- 1:59Speaker 1: a goal and I'm like, you got to tell the
- 2:00Speaker 1: people what the goal is. You got to ask for
- 2:03Speaker 1: the sale. And here they come. Here are all these
- 2:07Speaker 1: these reviews and ratings. Keep them coming up, keep them coming.
- 2:10Speaker 1: As mentioned today, we are reviewing season one, episode one,
- 2:14Speaker 1: Lost and Found of one Calls the Heart, a series
- 2:18Speaker 1: that began in twenty fourteen and has just completed its
- 2:21Speaker 1: twelfth season. It originally premiered on January eleventh, twenty fourteen,
- 2:27Speaker 1: and uh well's here a synopsis. When a wooden plank
- 2:31Speaker 1: inscribed with a sentimental message, it just is discovered in
- 2:35Speaker 1: the mine. New Constable Jack Thornton tries to discover the
- 2:39Speaker 1: plank's rightful owner. Elizabeth struggles with capturing the enthusiasm of
- 2:44Speaker 1: her students in the week of the tragedy. I source
- 2:48Speaker 1: that synopsis from the One Calls the Heart Wikipedia page
- 2:53Speaker 1: because they were kind of different all over the place,
- 2:56Speaker 1: and I thought that one kind of yeah, that's that encampulate.
- 3:00Speaker 1: He encapsulates this episode. I have a synopsis about kind
- 3:04Speaker 1: of the intro of the series, okay, which is Elizabeth Thatcher,
- 3:07Speaker 1: a young school teacher from a wealthy Eastern family, migrates
- 3:10Speaker 1: from the big city to teach school in a small
- 3:12Speaker 1: coal mining town. In the list, Yeah, I mean, I
- 3:15Speaker 1: think that is they should put the two together because
- 3:19Speaker 1: it was like the introduction of Elizabeth and what she
- 3:22Speaker 1: was doing there, plus this sort of like other story.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Yes.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Brian Bird and Michael Landon Jr. Created When Calls the Heart.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Brian is credited as both a writer and producer for
- 3:33Speaker 1: Wen Calls the Heart. He was also a producer on
- 3:35Speaker 1: the series Touched by An Angel and Step by Step?
- 3:38Speaker 1: Did you watch step by Step? Did I watch step
- 3:41Speaker 1: by Friday Nights?
- 3:41Speaker 2: Baby?
- 3:43Speaker 1: If I watched it too.
- 3:44Speaker 2: That's too that summers.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I think so. I think so too. Michael Landon Junior
- 3:48Speaker 1: is the son of the one and only Michael Landon
- 3:51Speaker 1: of Little House on the Prairie Fame. Michael has worked
- 3:53Speaker 1: as a writer, producer, and director throughout his career, contributing
- 3:57Speaker 1: to series like wen Hope Calls, and Highway to Hea,
- 4:01Speaker 1: hi Way to Heaven with his dad. He worked on
- 4:04Speaker 1: that show with his dad. I think he worked per IMDb.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I think he worked There was a movie, and I
- 4:10Speaker 1: think he worked on that Got It. Aaron Craikows stars
- 4:15Speaker 1: as Elizabeth Thatcher. Aaron has appeared in all twelve seasons
- 4:20Speaker 1: of Wynn Calls the Heart, which keeps her busy. Among
- 4:23Speaker 1: her seventeen other acting credits are the movies Santa Tell
- 4:27Speaker 1: Me the Wedding Cottage and it was always used. It
- 4:31Speaker 1: was always used, the Boston version, it was always you.
- 4:36Speaker 1: And I gotta say, all three of those are bangers.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I know she's so good. Those are great movies. Laurie
- 4:43Speaker 1: Laughlin plays Abigail Stanton and was in the series through
- 4:46Speaker 1: season six. We know Laurie from her iconic role as
- 4:48Speaker 1: Aunt Becky on Full House, as well as the series
- 4:51Speaker 1: Summerland and the reboot of nine O two one Oh.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Daniel Listening plays Constable Jack Thornton. Daniel appeared on the
- 4:59Speaker 1: series until season five. After seeing just one episode, we
- 5:03Speaker 1: can understand why fans we're thrilled to see Daniel and
- 5:06Speaker 1: Aaron back on screen together. In Santa Tell Me. Martin
- 5:09Speaker 1: Cummings plays Henry Gowan. Martin has remained on the series
- 5:12Speaker 1: through all twelve seasons. He has ninety acting credits, including
- 5:16Speaker 1: a long running role on the series Riverdale and a
- 5:18Speaker 1: six episode run on Unreal. The series is inspired by
- 5:22Speaker 1: Jeanette Oke's book of the same name from her Canadian
- 5:26Speaker 1: West series, and also as the series progresses, the cast
- 5:31Speaker 1: expands to include notable Hallwark actors such as Kevin McGary,
- 5:35Speaker 1: Chris McNally, Pascal Hutton, Kevin Smith, Jack Wagner, and Andrea Brooks,
- 5:40Speaker 1: among others. Hey, let's take a quick break and we're
- 5:44Speaker 1: going to come right back with our first impression of
- 5:46Speaker 1: When Calls the Heart. Let's talk when Calls the Heart.
- 5:58Speaker 1: You want to hear my first take? Well, I have
- 6:02Speaker 1: long maintained that Winn Calls the Heart would not be
- 6:06Speaker 1: for me. Here's why. The historical setting does not appeal
- 6:11Speaker 1: to my usual tastes. Right, Plus it has over a
- 6:15Speaker 1: dozen seasons like that is a lot of episodes to
- 6:17Speaker 1: chew through. It's just too big of a commitment. But
- 6:21Speaker 1: with that said, I was genuinely surprised at how watchable
- 6:26Speaker 1: this was, and while I didn't fall in love with it,
- 6:29Speaker 1: I didn't dislike it as much as I thought I would.
- 6:32Speaker 1: You know, the first line of my notes is, although
- 6:34Speaker 1: I'll say that this show is very much not my style,
- 6:38Speaker 1: I did enjoy the first episode.
- 6:39Speaker 2: So did I.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Yeah. One of the reasons is Elizabeth is a fun
- 6:43Speaker 1: character who's easy to root for. I have the same note.
- 6:47Speaker 1: We didn't share these notes, right, Not when she fans
- 6:52Speaker 1: herself after catching oh my God, jumping woods so relatable.
- 6:56Speaker 1: It's just a lighthearted moment. I think there's something about
- 6:58Speaker 1: period pieces like this that make my brain forget that
- 7:02Speaker 1: these are real people. So while they may behave differently,
- 7:06Speaker 1: they still have a lot of the same motivations that
- 7:09Speaker 1: we do for sure many years in the future. And
- 7:11Speaker 1: so that's one of those moments that are you suggesting
- 7:14Speaker 1: because she was sexually aroused by watching I'm Constable Jack
- 7:18Speaker 1: Thornton Chop wood buttoned up right that reminder that, oh
- 7:23Speaker 1: these are humans. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, that was a
- 7:26Speaker 1: funny like she was like, oh waiting herself. I thought
- 7:30Speaker 1: it was. I thought that was a very funny take too.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I really enjoyed the character of Elizabeth Thatcher. I it
- 7:38Speaker 1: was giving what is like a big movie, Oh my gosh,
- 7:44Speaker 1: mission impossible. I don't know what you're talking about.
- 7:47Speaker 3: So I'm saying, you're like watching this like privileged and
- 7:50Speaker 3: polished character, right, who is super unprepared for this life
- 7:55Speaker 3: and this like coal mine what there's kind of be
- 7:59Speaker 3: like some sort of rough friend's point that that is similar.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Email Lets girls Gone Palmark at gmail dot com. I
- 8:04Speaker 1: know what you're talking about, but I can't. I can't
- 8:06Speaker 1: come up with one. I'm my mind is going to
- 8:08Speaker 1: Audrey Hepburn for some reason. But it wasn't you know
- 8:12Speaker 1: where she like talks all cocked me, like what is
- 8:14Speaker 1: that movie? She was? But she was not prime, Like
- 8:20Speaker 1: she wasn't like polished and prime. She was the one
- 8:22Speaker 1: who was like rough around the edges. I don't know
- 8:25Speaker 1: what movie that is. Pollyanna am? I thinking not Audrey Hepburn,
- 8:28Speaker 1: but like you have like Pollyanna who's like perfect. No, maybe,
- 8:34Speaker 1: oh my gosh, my brain is short circuiting right now.
- 8:37Speaker 1: I'm sorry, It's okay. Maybe someone will pick up what
- 8:40Speaker 1: you're putting down right maybe, or they're gonna be like
- 8:43Speaker 1: this bozo. Anyway, I found Elizabeth charming, unexpectedly charming. I
- 8:51Speaker 1: think the other thing I like about the show is
- 8:53Speaker 1: we meet just enough of this town to be invested
- 8:55Speaker 1: in a few characters and the story of the town,
- 8:57Speaker 1: a mining town who has lost so many of its men,
- 9:00Speaker 1: without getting too lost in the weeds of all these
- 9:02Speaker 1: individual storylines. The past two first Impression episodes we've done
- 9:07Speaker 1: have been on shows that have had movie length pilot episodes,
- 9:11Speaker 1: and I actually was time wise, and also substance wise,
- 9:17Speaker 1: pretty happy that this was a standard episode length. I
- 9:19Speaker 1: think it really works for the show. It's just enough.
- 9:24Speaker 1: You think if it was a full movie length it'd
- 9:26Speaker 1: be too drawn out, Yes, I think so, perhaps not,
- 9:30Speaker 1: but I think it works as a pilot. And we
- 9:32Speaker 1: know who this town is, ye, we know the motivation
- 9:36Speaker 1: behind the people of the town. We meet a few
- 9:37Speaker 1: of its characters. Obviously, there's a lot more to know,
- 9:40Speaker 1: especially as the cast grows, but I feel like we
- 9:43Speaker 1: have an idea of the main players in this town,
- 9:47Speaker 1: and even if we don't know each individual character, we
- 9:51Speaker 1: kind of know there's the miners, and there's families, and
- 9:55Speaker 1: we know, you know, there's the leader of the town
- 9:58Speaker 1: who doesn't always have the best interest of those working
- 10:00Speaker 1: in the minds and the women and the children. We
- 10:03Speaker 1: get an idea of what each of these people is
- 10:05Speaker 1: going through. It's pretty well done. And I spy and
- 10:11Speaker 1: enemies still love her storyline with Elizabeth and Jack. I mean,
- 10:13Speaker 1: that's set up right up top for me. I do
- 10:17Speaker 1: have that note. There is a hard lean into the
- 10:20Speaker 1: enemies to lovers, which I find super boring. Yeah, it's
- 10:23Speaker 1: not my favorite. Look, I think it's the hardest trope
- 10:26Speaker 1: to do. Well, I've said it again and again. However,
- 10:28Speaker 1: I do see why people loved them even after one episode.
- 10:32Speaker 1: There's some wild chemistry between these two. You can't help
- 10:35Speaker 1: but root for them to get together. Yeah, exactly. And
- 10:38Speaker 1: that's what's so funny, is like I'm rooting for Elizabeth
- 10:41Speaker 1: to succeed as a teacher as a woman. In this
- 10:46Speaker 1: it's called Coal Valley, which then is changed at some
- 10:50Speaker 1: point to Hope Valley. Somebody, when does that happen people
- 10:53Speaker 1: and why Yeah, so I'm rooting for her. I'm rooting
- 10:56Speaker 1: for them to get together. So it sets up like
- 11:00Speaker 1: these things, like these storylines that make me excited for
- 11:03Speaker 1: the series. So I mean, well done, well done. Do
- 11:08Speaker 1: you have anything else? I just want to talk about
- 11:11Speaker 1: Jack Thornton, Daniel Listening. I have never seen Daniel Listening
- 11:14Speaker 1: in anything before. Santa tell me last year. Loved him
- 11:18Speaker 1: in that. See him in this and I'm like, oh,
- 11:22Speaker 1: I see why people liked him. Yeah, like I was
- 11:25Speaker 1: a handsome, clean cut, charming, great smile. I can see
- 11:29Speaker 1: why he's super appealing to fans. And now can see
- 11:33Speaker 1: why people were so excited that they these two were
- 11:36Speaker 1: back together in that movie last year. Yeah, because their
- 11:39Speaker 1: chemistry is like goodbou Man put him in some more movies,
- 11:43Speaker 1: did he I can't remember he did a lot, but yeah,
- 11:46Speaker 1: like what's his resume post when Calls the Heart? It
- 11:49Speaker 1: wasn't a lot of Hallmark. I just I would love
- 11:53Speaker 1: if he was in another Hallmark movie this year. Can
- 11:56Speaker 1: I talk about what surprised me about the series beyond
- 11:58Speaker 1: Elizabeth and Jack and I set up top that like
- 12:02Speaker 1: this historical setting wasn't going to do it for me.
- 12:05Speaker 1: But as a child, I really loved Little House in
- 12:09Speaker 1: the Prairie. Yeah, and this episode like captured that same
- 12:16Speaker 1: sort of I don't want to say about wholesome simplicity. Yes,
- 12:23Speaker 1: And I was thinking about it as I drove here
- 12:25Speaker 1: today too. I was why I loved Little House so
- 12:29Speaker 1: much is because like the childhood I grew up in
- 12:33Speaker 1: was not what I saw on TV. And Little House
- 12:36Speaker 1: of a little bit chaotic, sometimes volatile like divorces, blended families,
- 12:40Speaker 1: et cetera, et cetera, and watching Little House was just
- 12:43Speaker 1: like such a simplified family, even though hard times, right, Yeah,
- 12:48Speaker 1: but there was something like so genuine about it, and
- 12:54Speaker 1: this show replicates that, I feel like. And it's kind
- 12:59Speaker 1: of funny that like Michael Landon's son worked on this
- 13:01Speaker 1: show too, So I was like, well, okay, I see
- 13:03Speaker 1: that touch of that this storytelling. You know, we have
- 13:09Speaker 1: this like story of this like plank and like who
- 13:11Speaker 1: wrote the message on it? And all these families are
- 13:14Speaker 1: like affected by it, right, And I thought it felt
- 13:18Speaker 1: like sincere And you have like these characters, especially like
- 13:25Speaker 1: the student who like has stole the sign and whatever,
- 13:28Speaker 1: but like he has this opportunity to redeem himself. Yeah,
- 13:33Speaker 1: which I just feel like we don't get movies that
- 13:36Speaker 1: are kind of in this vein. I mean, we might
- 13:38Speaker 1: get some like redemption, but I do love a redemption storyline. Sure.
- 13:43Speaker 1: So anyway, in addition, you have this like capaw chemistry
- 13:48Speaker 1: between Elizabeth and Jack. But then you also have like
- 13:51Speaker 1: these incredibly sad families filled with grief over their loss.
- 13:57Speaker 1: It is a lot in forty five. It a lot.
- 14:02Speaker 1: My final thing, I want to admit I did not
- 14:06Speaker 1: think I kind of went in with like watching Lori
- 14:08Speaker 1: Laughlin like weird kind of bias similar to what I
- 14:13Speaker 1: talked about in Pearl and Paradise, Like going in and
- 14:15Speaker 1: watching Jill Wagner, Jill Wagner with some sort of bias,
- 14:19Speaker 1: you know, but doesn't it make you mad that Laura
- 14:21Speaker 1: Laughlin's good in this role? I was like, this, check
- 14:24Speaker 1: is a solid actor. And I mean, of course I've
- 14:27Speaker 1: watched Full House forever, right of course, like she's a
- 14:30Speaker 1: good actor. I did notice. I know, we don't do
- 14:33Speaker 1: did you see this? Did you see that? But I
- 14:35Speaker 1: did notice, like her face was noticeably tan okay, And
- 14:39Speaker 1: I was like, I wonder if that's intentional for a
- 14:42Speaker 1: couple of reasons. One like she's contrasting between her and Elizabeth,
- 14:48Speaker 1: you know, like I'm a frontier woman and I work outside. Yeah,
- 14:52Speaker 1: and Elizabeth is like this, you know, kept daughter perfect.
- 15:01Speaker 1: I kind of I thought that was really smart. And
- 15:03Speaker 1: I don't know if it was intentional or not. I'm like,
- 15:06Speaker 1: maybe Aunt Becky just likes to use a bronzer. I
- 15:08Speaker 1: don't know. Okay, let's talk to the Hallmark test. Is
- 15:10Speaker 1: it giving Hallmark personally? I think this is exactly what
- 15:15Speaker 1: people think when they think Hallmark because it is so wholesome.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Oh yeah, hundred percent. Yeah, it's giving Hallmark to me.
- 15:22Speaker 1: I mean, of course this show has been on twenty
- 15:25Speaker 1: five seasons or whatever. Yeah, you know, it's funny because
- 15:27Speaker 1: even though it is pretty dramatic and dark, because they
- 15:31Speaker 1: lose so many of their sons and husbands in the mind,
- 15:36Speaker 1: it also somehow manages to also feel pretty low stakes.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, it doesn't feel high drama. I'm sympathetic
- 15:44Speaker 1: to the fact that many people lost their lives, but
- 15:47Speaker 1: it's not coming across that way now, can you tell me.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I don't know if it touched on it, but what
- 15:53Speaker 1: year is this supposed to be? Oh yeah, it's gotta
- 15:56Speaker 1: be like late eighteen hundreds. Why did I just I
- 15:59Speaker 1: just read early nineteen hundred's nineteen ten? Oh okay, because
- 16:03Speaker 1: I know this season. I saw previews for like a
- 16:07Speaker 1: twenties air. Yeah, so this says the current season is
- 16:10Speaker 1: set in the nineteen twenties, but like the first season
- 16:13Speaker 1: came out nineteen ten. Okay, so they followed like a
- 16:16Speaker 1: actual year to year chronicleological close to it at least. Yeah,
- 16:21Speaker 1: let's talk about the cast. I mean, look, we talked
- 16:24Speaker 1: a little bit about the character of Elizabeth, but Aaron
- 16:27Speaker 1: Craik out, she is one of my favorites, and it's
- 16:30Speaker 1: kind of a bummer that she's not in more stuff.
- 16:32Speaker 1: She's on this series, so she's got to spend a
- 16:34Speaker 1: few months of the year filming this. I'm glad that
- 16:36Speaker 1: it seems like she's been getting at least, you know,
- 16:38Speaker 1: one additional movie per year, and they're good. Like I
- 16:43Speaker 1: loved the Wedding Cottage, I loved Santa tell Me, Like,
- 16:46Speaker 1: those are so fun. So you know, lately, everything she's
- 16:52Speaker 1: in becomes like an instant new favorite of mine. So
- 16:54Speaker 1: it's not really all that surprising that I found her
- 16:57Speaker 1: so refreshing on screen. And she's quite too. She's really funny,
- 17:01Speaker 1: like she's got great comedic timing. I'm picturing that scene
- 17:04Speaker 1: in the wedding cottage where she's using the leaf blower.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Can you remember that scene? And it's so funny to me.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Santa Tellmy has a lot of those funny moments too,
- 17:12Speaker 1: and I think I wasn't expecting that to translate here,
- 17:17Speaker 1: got it? Yeah, in a period piece, like how are
- 17:20Speaker 1: you funny? And I mean on the frontier. Look, I
- 17:24Speaker 1: love Downton Abbey, Like, I'm not afraid of a period piece,
- 17:27Speaker 1: but there's something about the Old West doesn't really appeal
- 17:30Speaker 1: to me, Like I don't want to watch a Western.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Back to the Future three is my least favorite, Like
- 17:33Speaker 1: I'm interested in like Old West content. It doesn't vibe
- 17:38Speaker 1: for me. But she is really fun I agree, I agree.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I really like Aaron and Laurie Laughlin together. Yeah, well
- 17:51Speaker 1: almost like a mother daughter. I was gonna say that.
- 17:54Speaker 1: I feel like the character of Abigail is like a
- 17:59Speaker 1: mentor to her, kind of showing her the way, wisdom, strength,
- 18:05Speaker 1: like a sisterhood. I think they're real nice together, and
- 18:09Speaker 1: I feel like, was there a recent story about how
- 18:14Speaker 1: Aaron wanted Laurie to come back to the show. So
- 18:19Speaker 1: there was some discussion about that. It is in our
- 18:20Speaker 1: Facebook group, I believe, and there may have been an
- 18:23Speaker 1: article links, but can we talk about the Lori Laughlin
- 18:25Speaker 1: of it all? So my notes say after a single episode,
- 18:28Speaker 1: I can see why she was such a beloved part
- 18:30Speaker 1: of this series. There was some chatter in our Facebook
- 18:33Speaker 1: group about the way things went down after her college
- 18:35Speaker 1: admissions scandal, and I found a statement from Hallmark on
- 18:40Speaker 1: TV line from that time that says, we are saddened
- 18:42Speaker 1: by the recent news surrounding the college admissions allegations. We
- 18:46Speaker 1: are no longer working with Laurie Laughlin and have stopped
- 18:49Speaker 1: development of all productions that air on the Crown Media
- 18:52Speaker 1: Family Network channels involving Lori Laughlin, including garage sale mysteries
- 18:57Speaker 1: and independent third party production. This doesn't say it, but
- 19:03Speaker 1: that the line. What was discussed in our Facebook group
- 19:06Speaker 1: is it was said like recast or the show wasn't
- 19:09Speaker 1: coming back and she left the show. There's a lot
- 19:15Speaker 1: of comparison being made to like Laura Laughlin and the
- 19:18Speaker 1: Eric maybeas of it all right now, Obahallmark isn't talking
- 19:22Speaker 1: about Eric maybeas but a lot of people feel like, well,
- 19:29Speaker 1: is there any any forgiveness to be had? How do
- 19:33Speaker 1: you feel about that? I guess I feel like this
- 19:35Speaker 1: woman knowingly defrauded the college admissions system. Wasn't an accident, Okay,
- 19:43Speaker 1: there's nothing that she needs to go to like treatment
- 19:46Speaker 1: for She was like, I'm rich, I got kids that
- 19:51Speaker 1: want to go to this school. Okay, But does that
- 19:53Speaker 1: mean she should lose her job over that? Because she
- 19:56Speaker 1: defrauded the system, she went to jail and served her time.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Do you think she should be given another opportunity?
- 20:01Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Let me let me Martha Stewart. Yeah, defrauded system. Yeah,
- 20:09Speaker 1: served her time, and I came back into her entertainment
- 20:12Speaker 1: business and is killing the game. Just a small bump
- 20:15Speaker 1: in the road in a federal prison. So why can't
- 20:19Speaker 1: Lorie Laughlin be afforded to say she served her time? Yeah,
- 20:23Speaker 1: that's a great point. Doesn't she ever kill anybody? Was
- 20:26Speaker 1: she ever apologetic for it? I don't know. I mean
- 20:28Speaker 1: she turned herself in, I don't, I don't. Yeah, because
- 20:31Speaker 1: it was that or the FBI was going to come
- 20:32Speaker 1: to her house. Yes, Lori Laughlin apologized for her role.
- 20:35Speaker 1: During her sentencing, she expressed remorse for her actions, acknowledging
- 20:39Speaker 1: they had undermined her daughters and contributed to societal inequities. Yeah,
- 20:44Speaker 1: I don't know. Does she deserve another chance? I mean,
- 20:46Speaker 1: my understanding is Homemark has a clause in their contracts
- 20:49Speaker 1: that's like, yeah, one striking your out man. Oh really,
- 20:52Speaker 1: the morality clause was mentioned in our Facebook grow. Oh
- 20:56Speaker 1: that's interesting. I didn't see that. I was not aware
- 20:59Speaker 1: of it. And so in that case, it's like, well,
- 21:02Speaker 1: you sign this contract. I wonder if that clause exists
- 21:05Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five with Hallmark. There was under a
- 21:08Speaker 1: different leadership at that time. I would not be surprised
- 21:11Speaker 1: if Hallmark still maintains the same sort of cloth. Anyway,
- 21:14Speaker 1: I don't know. I liked her in this. I'd liked
- 21:18Speaker 1: her as an actor in this. Me too, I did too.
- 21:22Speaker 1: It's complicated, it is any other casting thoughts. No, Okay, well,
- 21:28Speaker 1: I think we all know the answer to this. But
- 21:30Speaker 1: when we're talking keep it or skip it? Are you
- 21:32Speaker 1: gonna keep watching? I have keep it with a soft commitment. Really,
- 21:36Speaker 1: I look, it's a lot of episodes that alone makes
- 21:41Speaker 1: it feel super overwhelming to me. Yes, I remember in
- 21:44Speaker 1: twenty twenty when I was just sent around to inject shit,
- 21:46Speaker 1: I watched melrose Place, which was a lot of years
- 21:51Speaker 1: and a lot of episodes, and I couldn't even get
- 21:53Speaker 1: through it, like it's too much. Yeah, it's too much.
- 21:56Speaker 1: So I imagine with this show as well, there's probably
- 21:59Speaker 1: stretches of episodes that are not good. There's probably seasons
- 22:01Speaker 1: that are not good. No, I don't want to spend
- 22:04Speaker 1: my time doing that. It's a again as keep it
- 22:07Speaker 1: with this off. I want to see here. I can't
- 22:10Speaker 1: even believe I'm saying this. I want to see how
- 22:13Speaker 1: Jack and Elizabeth's relationships develops. Yeah, but then you're gonna
- 22:16Speaker 1: get in the weeds because there's all this other stuff
- 22:18Speaker 1: with like the the mom of other guy names Chris
- 22:22Speaker 1: mcdally and Kevin McGarry. Yes, well, yeah, I want to
- 22:26Speaker 1: know like what ultimately happens to Jack and then how
- 22:29Speaker 1: that plays out, like how do they introduce like the
- 22:33Speaker 1: new guys and I am then I'll be season nine,
- 22:38Speaker 1: I know. So this is my answer to this question.
- 22:40Speaker 1: I thought this was a solid pilot episode. I, however,
- 22:43Speaker 1: do not intend to continue watching the series. The fact
- 22:45Speaker 1: that there are twelve seasons makes me want to cry
- 22:48Speaker 1: quite frankly. And ultimately, this isn't my notesing. This isn't
- 22:52Speaker 1: the kind of show I'm interested in watching. It's not
- 22:54Speaker 1: that I found it unenjoyable. I just it's not my
- 22:59Speaker 1: number one. I think before I would have been like
- 23:02Speaker 1: repulsed and be like, oh, I gotta turn this off.
- 23:04Speaker 1: I don't want to even see this period piece on
- 23:06Speaker 1: my TV. Yeah, if there were two seasons and I'm
- 23:09Speaker 1: like I could find the whole story, sure maybe I
- 23:11Speaker 1: would be in. But twelve seasons to get all of
- 23:14Speaker 1: this backstory and to understand, like, you know, there's people
- 23:17Speaker 1: that are writing hard for Daniel listening, and people that
- 23:19Speaker 1: are writing hard for Chris McNally, and that's a lot
- 23:22Speaker 1: of that's a lot of backstory to choot through. I know.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Then you get like the viv Leecock of it all.
- 23:28Speaker 1: You have all these other side characters I supposed to
- 23:30Speaker 1: carry about too. It's too much of a commitment for me.
- 23:34Speaker 1: But solid pilot episode, I agree. Thank you for listening
- 23:37Speaker 1: to this episode of Girls Gone Hallmark, a Bramble Jam podcast.
- 23:40Speaker 1: That's it for our first impression of when calls the heart.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Now go form your own. We'll be back with more
- 23:46Speaker 1: Hallmark reviews and next time.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Goodbye bye.

- 24:11Speaker 1: hit the skip button, or maybe just maybe listen in
